« Do not stay here! »

Hotel needs an overhaul! We had to move room because not only cramped and half decorated but the sheets were dirty. Second room up carpet worn stairs near the kitchen. Woken at 5am by loud swearing kitchen hands starting their day. Wedding disco loudly thumped until mid-night. Not clean, banister sticky and lots of dust. Breakfast not ready until 8.15. Restaurant in the evening usually empty or just one table. One poor woman trying to do everything. Only redeeming feature were the receptionists very polite and professional. Never again!

just aweful ! rediculously noisy, walls & floors are paper thin. doors don't have soft closures on them & bang all night long. the whirring of the kitchen extraction fan will keep you up all night if you're unfortunate enough to have a room near it. music from the disco downstairs blasting away until gone 2:00am & is far too loud in the rooms. the tripple rooms are cramped & breakfast not very good. drinks are extortionately priced & room key cards very temperamental.

    « Discusting place »

Basically the place is filthy, decor is very out dated, the room was tiny and uncomfortable, toilet paper thin and cheap, night porter extremely rude to us, and on the Saturday the wedding sick went on very loudly until 1am so unable to sleep. What a complete rip off and would never stay again or recommend it. We had other family members staying at the hotel in an 'executive' room but what a complete joke. Again filthy and old but had a little bit extra space than our box room. They're also very unhappy and would not stay again.

    « A lurid night.... »

The room was a good size and comfortable, but the walls were paper thin which led to a fairly lurid night..... The corridor outside the room smelt strongly of damp and was quite nauseating. Breakfast in the conservatory was excellent - good ,plentiful, varied menu - served in the conservatory which provided a gorgeous view of Aigburth Park. The staff were very helpful, efficient and courteous. The pricing was very competitive, so we got value for money.

« DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL »

We came here thinking we had landed a bargain. The rooms are small, there isn't any hot water so had to wash in cold. The staff are friendly apart from the night Porter who we found very abrupt. Breakfast was ok, not the best I've had and not the worst, The dining room floor could have done with a sweep as there was food on the floor from the night before . My advice is to thoroughly vet the place, but we will never come here again. PREMIER INN ALL THE WAY NOW FOR US.

« Weekend break at the Alicia »

Lovely quiet situation opposite Sefton Park and near to restaurants on Lark Lane and an excellent bus service. We were on a Groupon deal which included breakfast (good) and a bottle of wine ( not sampled yet). The room was very small but the bed was comfy and the ensuite bathroom ok despite the door not shutting. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again but would want a bigger room for a more comfortable stay. Liverpool is a great city for a short break.

« Good value for money »

Just return from a two night break at The Alicia which we booked through Groupon. The deal was for bed, breakfast and evening meal on the first night plus wine. The evening meal was excellent, great choice, superbly cooked and the wine was good too. There was a good choice for breakfast and once again everything was excellent. The room we had was a little small and could do with a little updating but it appears the hotel is going to be coming under the Hallmark Hotel chain shortly so possibly this may done then. All the staff we encountered were very good, especially John who gave us good tips on places to visit. We didn't eat at the Hotel on the second night, we went just round the corner to Lark Street where there are numerous independent restaurants, had a great meal at Bistro Noir. A taxi into Liverpool was less than £7 and can be booked in reception with push of a button, great service. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Mixed feelings »

Very friendly staff. Unfortunately, small rooms, not too much and not too tasty food (I speak for breakfast) Otherwise peaceful surroundings, and responsive staff ... An older gentleman who works at the front desk helped to better stay in the hotel, but unfortunately I forgot his name ...

    « Great Hotel! »

Stayed here after a disappointing and unpleasant stay at Sefton Park, the previous review received an insulting and derogatory comments from the manager which only makes him look like the one with issues? Why did TripAdvisor allow these personal insults towards a reviewer? Alicia Hotel, great place, great staff, and breakfast was ample and plentiful. Housekeeping are a little too hurried in the mornings with a knock on my door at 11.10 telling me check out was at 11! Overall, great Hotel and I would recommend...!??

« DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL-SEASONED TRAVELLER »

I travel worldwide in my profession. I have stayed in Hotels all over the world. This hotel is quite frankly a disgrace. It has an excellent location but the hotel is sad, tired and dirty. Our first room was filthy but we had to stick it for one night. Curtains were so dirty they were falling apart, the carpet was not much better. The staff immediately acknowledged our complaint, when I mentioned the state of the room, she just said " yes, I know." Our second room was not much better, dingy cramped and dreadful lumpy mattress. We will never darken their door again.

    « Festival stay »

My family and I stayed here for the fusion festival weekend at Otterspool promenade. Sadly the 20 minute park side walk on google maps was misleading, and was closer to 50 minutes alongside very busy roads, the hotel wasn't easily accessible by public transport but local taxis were reliable and reasonably priced. There was a long queue when we arrived and the receptionist was quite impatient with everyone. We were given luggage tags for our bags and told to put them to one side and write our room numbers and names on them, we did so, assuming that once the rooms were cleaned and ready, our bags would be taken to our rooms. It was disappointing to find that on our return, late that evening, that our bags were still lying unattended, in an unlocked room right beside the main hotel entrance. The rooms themselves were clean and well equipped and we had a really comfortable nights rest and the family room was a lovely size. Breakfast was ok, there was a good variety of foods but it was lukewarm. Probably wouldn't choose to stay here again, but mainly because of its non central location.

    « Amazing Wedding Day »

Thank you to all the Alicia staff for making our wedding day the best it could possibly be. It was amazing and beautiful, and everything ran so smoothly... we cannot thank you enough! We married in the gardens and it was just beautiful and different to other weddings we have attended. The venue is a good size and was just right for us. The staff did everything they could to make the day special and we didn't have to worry about a thing! Thank you again, it meant so much to us! Wish we could do it all again xxx

    « Golden Wedding Celebration »

On October 8th we celebrated our Golden Wedding at the Alicia Hotel. We were helped in the planning by Becky who went out of her way to give us exactly what we wanted. Amendments were made for guests with special requirements. The Glass House & table arrangements were excellent as was the food & service throughout the night. Barbara & Don Young

    « A mixed bag »

It's not really 'average' because most hotels don't have music booming below you until midnight but I felt rating it 'poor' was a bit harsh. Decor is quite nice, cleanliness OK if you're not really fussy (I could be picky here but I've decided not to be). Beds are comfortable, has helpful staff and if you're driving it's fewer than ten minutes into the centre. Car parks are expensive, so take that into account when picking a suitable location for you. I paid £94 quid each night - it's definitely not worth that much but if you can find it cheaper and don't expect to sleep early on a Saturday night then book it.

    « Filthy room »

Booked a "superior" room at the cost of £180. To say we were disappointed with he standard of the hotel would be an understatement. Upon checkin, we were met with a clearly disinterested lady and her colleague, who repeatedly leaned across my girlfriend to pick up a leaflet on the reception desk, making her have to step back out of the way, without any hint of an "excuse me" or "sorry", in fact she didn't say a word. Our "superior" room was filthy, there was FAECES on the top and underside of the toilet seat. It is beyond me how this was not spotted by the cleaner (if in deed the room had even been cleaned). There was ladies hair clips/pins all over the carpeted bedroom floor and large pieces of fluff, human hair and what looked like some form of paper/cardboard. The shower would repeatedly stop working at intervals. Which was a great help when you're Mrs is trying to wash her hair and there were no mugs in our room for tea/coffee. Finally there were slats missing from the bed, leading to an uncomfortable sleep. I stay in a 100 plus hotels a year due to my job, quite frankly this was one of the worst due to its cleanliness. Massively disappointed. Avoid it.

    « Afternoon tea »

As a bit of an expert of afternoon teas I visited this afternoon with my mum and sisters.....we received a lovely welcome from John. The table was all set up ready for us with crisp table cloths and napkins....pots of tea and coffee were brought out to us straight away and kept coming. The sandwiches were all fresh, plentiful and with a great choice of fillings. ...such a good selection of cakes and scone. I have got to say that this was the best one yet and would highly reccommend...going to book again.

Anyone looking to book an afternoon tea, this is the place to go. Fantastic place, lovely staff and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was relaxing and cosy we were made very welcome. A big thank you to John. We shall certainly go back. Highly recommened

« The Alicia gave us the PERFECT wedding »

We cannot speak highly enough of the Alicia and their amazing team. We got married at the hotel in August and every aspect was managed perfectly to give us a day that was beyond our expectations. Prior to the event Jenny and Becky where exceptional, professionally managing all planning aspects with an extremely fast turnaround to any queries we had ? making the process stress free.   On the day itself, John and the team looked after all proceedings with meticulous detail and with a personal touch ? meaning we did not worry about a single thing! In the evening Mark and his team looked after us & our guests with the same exceptionally high standards.   For a lot of our guests this was their first experience of The Alicia and they were not disappointed, in fact many have made specific comments about how good the hotel is and how amazing the staff were (particularly John).   We would definitely recommend having your big day or event at the Alicia ? we cannot thank them all enough for giving us the best day of our lives!

    « Serious plumbing problem »

Spent two night here on a business trip, the city was packed for a big political conference so ended up here, an £8 black cab ride out of town. The place looks fine, but the furniture in the room felt insubstantial and cheap, and as I was in the front off the building, the plumbing was appalling. The first morning I ran a cold shower, phoned reception and they promised to 'reboot' the boiler. Another ten minutes later I had t crack on and had a lukewarm dribble to wash under. The second morning wasn't much better. Again a cold shower and a call to reception, but this time advice to run the shower for ten minutes while it heated up. It got hot - eventually. but this fell significantly short of what I would expect from a hotel of this standard.

    « Weekend antics »

I stopped here this weekend for an outing into Liverpool on a night out, for that the hotel was brilliant, almost instant taxis into the centre and the staff were friendly and informative on where is best to go! The room was small and the car parking is very limited, other than that it was perfectly fine for what we needed! Thanks :-)

    « My wedding day »

Where do I begin...we got married here 2 days ago. From the minute We started planning our wedding here we were given 110% help and support from Becky wedding angel. She really was heaven sent and made our wedding planning so easy and stress free. I stayed at the hotel the night before with my bridal party. All the hotel staff were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were spotlessly clean. My wedding day was amazing, more than I could ever of wished for. The food was incredible. The scenery of the ceremony was exquisite. Last but by no means least, John, master of ceremonies, there are no words to describe how amazing this man is. He went above and beyond for us and our guests. On hand to help at all times and made sure everything run smoothly. John had an amazing way with people. He went of his way to ensure our wedding day was the most perfect day of our lives...and he was successful. Every wedding day needs someone like John. Thank you to all the staff at the Alicia hotel. We couldn't of asked for better. xxxxx

« Far from center of city - bad housekeep- room need cleaning, toilet paper, towels »

expenisve cab ride to get there - booked wrong BW - not hear downtown room smelled of bug spray, clogged toilet had not been flushed from previous person, front desk was very rude when I had to repeatedly go back for toilet paper and other items . They charged me top dollar for a room even cheap motel would be embarrassed to rent. I had to take city bus to get back to Liverpool...to see the city.

    « Mark &a Sarah wedding 18-09-16 »

Can not thank the staff enough for their warmth and professionalism in making our wedding so special. Amazing food, every request meet with a smile, able to marry in the stunning gardens. All our families enjoyed their stay. John was amazing on the day, helped it all flow as was Mark in the evening and Becky in the run-up ensuring everything was complete. The personal touch made our day so special. Thank you again Mark & Sarah

« Bit far off from the city centre. Clean and big room. Nice park outside »

I stayed here as I attended a conference in ACC liverpool. It is a bit far off from the city centre (about 7 pounds by taxi). There are no restaurants nearby. So I went to the city centre and ate, as I wanted some ethnic food (Indian, Thai, Mexican ...). The room was big and clean. I could feel the springs in the mattress. The room including the bathroom was very clean. The toilet flushing was horrible. One has to press and hold for a long time and hope it will flush well. The shower pressure wasn't good enough. It took a long time to get hot water. Wifi is free. The breakfast was excellent. The front desk staff were very helpful (once my door didn't open and they came and helped promptly). Calling the taxi using the automated call button in the front desk is useful. Like many other old victorian house turned hotel properties, finding the room is not easy with many stairs to climb. So people with mobility issues, need to have this in mind while booking a room. The room doesn't have an AC (as most of the time the climate would be cold, I guess). So on a hot day, it was tough to manage. Overall, if you want the convenience of restaurants etc look for a hotel in the city centre. But if you want a peaceful atmosphere at a reasonable price and good breakfast, book in this hotel.

    « Meh »

I stayed here for 4 nights so trust my experience! First of all reception staff were great as well as front of house. Breakfast food was also good apart from everytime I asked of order French toast they had ran out, or not had the correct bread to make it with... For 4 days? Sceptical but ok... There was a wedding there when I arrived so even though I was put at the back of there I could still hear the music till then end! Then alot of creaky floors and banging from upstairs. The next day in the evening I went to eat in the bar and it clearly had not been cleaned from the night before, tables were sticky as was the bar and confetti on the table etc, not sure what excuse is after at least 18 hours after the event My room was very small and basic, bare in mind I had just returned from ibis hotel in Thailand koh Samui.... And this was way more basic! No air con, no fan, only 2 small windows open a few CMs! And wether was so hot! Only 2 light bulbs worked in main light, side lamp didn't even have a bulb in, bathroom is so dates it reminds me of my old grandmas, it's so dated that the White objects are now a funny yellow. Green grime in rubber under shower guard. Leaking tap in sink, plug in sink that was so corroded it didn't hold water in. Cleaners... Made my bed... That was it, day 4 and al I can see is bits in carpet, dust everywhere. Bath not been cleaned out properly before I used it so I bought cleaner myself! By last day my bath still had not been cleaned again, floor had not been vacuumed, not sure why I am paying the price I did for a room not to be 'kept' I worked in a hotel where I live, also old building called holdsworth house, so I know the pros and cons of these types of places, but they kept rooms upto date and bulbs in lights as well as cleaning rooms properly. No excuses for all this. And if people think I am making it up I have provided photos. I was planning initially to be booking 4 nights sept Nov Feb and May but I just can not see this happening with the current state of the rooms. Bring your standards in your rooms to match the rest of the hotel and it would be a lot better. I understand it's probably a listed building so air con is not a possibility but please look into the Windows not being screwed closed. Also fire exist door next to my room does not close shut so when windy it would constantly bang. Also a hazard for children!!!! They run out there and fall down the metal steps then you have serious questions to answer for ....

    « Horrible experience here »

We actually stayed here in March and had a terrible experience. We stayed Friday to Sunday and was not advised there were weddings all weekend our room was above the reception room and this meant we could here the DJ and music until gone 2am. I was heavily pregnant and was unable to sleep, we complained the next and was given a room at the other side of the hotel and was kept awake again by wedding guests screaming and fighting in the corridor until 4am we rang reception several times and nothing was done. This ruined our stay and staff did not apologise

    « Disgusting »

Booked hotel as flight due in to late to travel back to Scotland over a year ago. Arrived to no security door wide open at 01.20 anybody could have walked in. Waiting at reception then advice I had a twin room. Said no double room booked. Oh sorry room made up as double. No it was not too tired to argue. Got a quick change and to bed. When I got up in morning the room still had the previous occupants toothbrushes and pink disposable razors in bin. Dead bluebottle amongst filth on widow ledge. Toilet did not flush properly. My husband sat on single bed to put shoes on and bed colapsed. Had I seen room in daytime I would not have stayed here. I asked for a complaints form at reception advised they were waiting on them being printed. I have left a letter with my complaints we shall see. Do not recommend this hotel. Reception didn't even ask if we needed a taxi phoned for our own. Will not be back. Disgusting whole room needs bleached and steam cleaned.

« Dated hotel in an excellent location »

the hotel is adequate enough with a good breakfast and very friendly staff, however it really does need updating and a thorough clean. Our room was a little on the small side and required the carpet cleaning and the odd scuff mark removing from the walls. The weekend we stayed was very warm and I was unable to open one of the two windows, also up until about 22.00 and starting again at about 06.00 there is a loud droning of a motor which I can only imagine comes from the kitchen. The location is excellent for Lark Lane and its many restaurants and bars which is about a five minute walk away.

« Inexpensive hotel room with a good location »

We attended a wedding at the weekend and needed a hotel close to the wedding venue, the Palm House in Sefton Park, and this was close to it. The hotel was pleasant but a little dated, our room wasn't huge but perfectly adequate for our stay-why the tea and coffee making facilities are on the bottom draw of a furniture unit always baffles me,it's a pain! Only complaint I can mention is that the check in time is 3 pm and you check out for 11 the next day-you don't get much time in your room, and no chance to get in your room a bit early if you needed to get changed and ready for a wedding in the afternoon, they were very firm on that despite asking. All in all a decent stay for the money (we got it a few weeks earlier on LateRooms), but we'd try another place if we had to be in the area ever again.

« Stayed for Fusion Festival »

We stayed for 1 night for the Fusion Festival and had an enjoyable stay the staff are very happy polite and friendly, receptionist checked us in and the little glitches were swiftly ironed out on that note we requested and iron and board which was brought up within seconds great service. The room was lovely with everything you need bathroom and bedroom both spotless. Thank you for a really good stay wish it was longer.

    « The worst! »

The best thing about this hotel is the park opposite. Don't take room 1. It is small, dark, badly arranged and looks onto a wall and a ventilation shaft from the kitchen which throbs noisily until 9.30pm. The carpet was stained and the bathroom had a floodlight shining into it all night. The toilet handle was loose, but worst of all was the lack of ventilation. We had to prop the window open to get air. We hardly slept. It seemed cheap until you realise that the price does not include breakfast, which adds £20. We didn't bother, just got out asap!

    2
    « One to avoid. »

The only good thing to come from this hotel was the fact they let us check in early due to attending a wedding. We had to ask for towels as there was only 1 in the bathroom for a room booked for 2. To then phone reception for extra. The the farce of what can only be described as cold offerings for breakfast. As a fellow chef in the industry I know the struggle to keeping a buffet hot is difficult but nothing at all was other than luke warm at best. I also had to stop my breakfast and get another plate as there was a bunch not just one black hair to be then told it's ok not to worry it was off the mushrooms now to my knowledge button mushrooms don't grow hairs so this was left at that. Overall £135 for just the one night is nothing other than scandalous. I'd look at reducing prices because for that amount of money I would expect a lot more than this hotel is offering.

« Nice looking hotel, needs some work inside »

On arrival, its a lovely building opposite Sefton Park, with free parking for first come first served basis. Theres a nice room out front, but reception, bars etc need some work. Rooms ok, no air con so slightly stuffy, window that opens fully, which was good but careful if visiting with young children, little room to move round one part of the bed, good sized bathroom. Drinks dear, £9 for a pint and a wine. Breakfast had good selection. Staff friendly and helpful. Was worried about staying after reading a review about a mouse being in room, so did good inspection on arrival and room 7 was clear:).

    3
« Beautiful building in quiet Sefton park side location at a reasonable price »

We stayed at this hotel for two nights on Thursday & Friday. Excellent quiet location in front of Sefton park. Free parking at hotel is a real plus. Room was small but adequate for our needs. Good sized bathroom. Kettle in room. No air-conditioning but comfortable with open window. Helpful staff in reception & bar. We chose not to have our beds & towels changed and were rewarded with a free drinks voucher each which we appreciated. However it would be good if the housekeeping staff could replenish the tea and coffee and empty the bin (even if the bed linen & towels do not need changing). Would certainly encourage more guests to be environmentally responsible. Tips: 1.Lark lane is few minutes walk and has great places to eat and a co-op supermarket. 2. Bus 82 takes you to the city centre. Bus stop opposite to Churasco steak restaurant at the end of Lark lane. Day rider ticket costs £ 3.90

« Lovely staff but awful room (single room) »

I'm sure there are lots of nice rooms in this hotel - but not the one I stayed in. The lobby is lovely and the park opposite is really nice. The staff are friendly. However the single room I stayed in was awful - a noisy generator kept coming on and off in the middle of the night, the phone was unplugged and broken, the lamp didn't work, there was a dirty tissue in the drawer, the shower was a trickle, no hairdryer in the room and the whole room felt like an awful 1970s B&B.

    5
    « Couldn't have asked for more A+++++ »

I'm not one for writing reviews but I am so happy and overwhelmed by this lovely hotel and staff. Staying in hotels with a very active 4 year old chatter box can be quite daunting! nothing was too much trouble, we arrived late and the food service had finished but the receptionist offered to make us sandwiches and gave us free drinks as well as carrying them to our room as I had my hands full. My 4 year old chats to absolutely everyone he passes, every staff member from the cleaners to the receptionist stopped their busy schedule to stop and talk to him and made a big fuss of him, he loved it, we felt very welcome and at home. Parts of the hotel could do with updating but it was spotless and we didn't want for anything. I highly recommend this family friendly hotel, we will definitely be staying here again. Huge thanks to all the lovely staff, Sarah & Levi

    « Do not recommend »

I am on my second night stay for business and do not recommend this hotel. It appears to have a lot of potential from the outside of the building, opposite a nice park, secure parking and has a nice reception area. However; the rooms are small, dark and stuffy. There is very little space around the bed to move and even less on the desk to work due to the amount of furniture/items crammed into the room. The lighting is dull, yellow and doesn't all work. I arrived on a hot day to closed windows, open curtains in a sun facing room and no fan. A fan was bought to my room at request but the room has never become a comfortable temperature. With the bedroom window open, there is no chance of sleep as the kitchen fridge generator is regularly kicking in and makes a lot of noise all night. The staff are pleasant enough and listened to my complaint about the generator but, of course, there's little they can do. The hotel is in need of some significant refurbishment to make it comfortable and worthy of a return trip. I've had the worst 2 nights sleep I can remember and I travel a lot for work.

    « Would not recommend »

We stayed at the Alicia for two nights in a double room. The staff were really friendly, and although the room was faded and it wasn't cheap, we both thought that the position of the hotel meant that overall it was pretty good. But we both left with some really nasty, itchy bites.

« Would definitely NOT recommend »

I have stayed at the Alicia on 17 odd occasions since the summer of 2013. Three of these stays have spoilt my otherwise pleasant nights' stay in this average hotel. On two occasions the boiler had broken down resulting in no hot water; I had to use another room to shower in the morning. On my most recent stay I saw a MOUSE in my room! I didn't receive an apology from the manager even though I left my contact details with the receptionist for him to contact me. The room I was given on this stay was small and dark with very little room to move around. The window overlooked the side of the property where the Kitchen is situated. On several occasions whilst in the room I could have sworn I saw something moving from the corner of my eye but didn't actually see anything until about 11:30pm when I saw a MOUSE sitting by the bed! I went straight to reception to report the problem but found reception unmanned; I had to wait a few minutes for the night porter to turn up. He found the situation rather amusing, but did apologise when he realised this wasn't good customer service! He offered me a fairly nice family room but this was on the same floor and almost opposite the first room with the mouse. I insisted on a room on different floor. The only other room available was on the 2nd floor but it had a ?maintenance issue'. The porter was happy for me to look at this room before deciding which room to take. The porter pointed out the problem with the ceiling- it looked like it just needed decorating after a leak of some sort and decided to take this room. However, at about 5:20 I was awoken by a loud dripping noise and realised the ceiling was leaking. I contacted the porter to report the leak and he mentioned that he had pointed out the maintenance issue before I took the room- to which I replied he hadn't told me it was leaking. The only alternative was to move again to a room which potentially had mice. I decided to stay in the room rather than have to move a second time. The constant dripping made it almost impossible to sleep. After breakfast the manager hadn't arrived, the receptionist apologised repeatedly and said that my employer would not be charged for my stay. I left my contact details for the manager to contact me but this has not materialised as yet. If this is how loyalty from regular customers is treated, then I wouldn't like to second guess how problems are dealt with when it's your first stay. My advice would be to choose a different hotel.

    « A disappointment »

First appearances of this hotel were good considering the magnificent façade with an interesting history. Apparently pre-owned by a cotton baron. However, we will not be returning. The bedrooms could do with a makeover. We had a double room in the main building. The mattress was diabolical. The pocket springing had died a long time previously and you could not only feel the remaining springs but the base of the bed when you sat on it. The springs (such as they were) recoiled with a resounding 'bong' each time we got out/ off/up from the bed. I complained to reception as the nights ahead were going to be uncomfortable and they said that they would see what they could do. The bed had been remade with a duvet placed over the mattress base in an attempt to cover the springs which helped marginally. There was no light over the wash-hand basin just a dangling cord. The shelf in the bathroom was marked with rust and the lavatory seat swung east and west at will!! The room was extremely small but that would have been no problem had it been comfortable. No light over the dressing table (?) area just an overhead light behind you. Tea/Coffee was on a tray but the sheer difficulty of using it (it was tucked away on a tiny shelf in the wardrobe area) and the smallness of the room we didn't bother. The linen and the big fluffy towels were excellent as also the hot water. Breakfast was, well words fail me here. Opting for tea, it duly arrived, What on earth they use for tea bags is beyond me. One tea bag for a large pot and the taste was anything but tea. Loads of small jams but marmalades we had to pilfer from other tables. Continental breakfast was a joke. No croissants, only the first morning and then they were rationed. After that nothing. Just bread and jam. The cold meats (8 pieces...the same each day) looked as if they were just resurrected each morning, There were some pain au chocolate but just a few for the whole dining room. I queried the lack of croissants and was told that chef would be informed as there hadn't been any for 3 days! We are still waiting. Obviously they were on a strict budget and tea-bags were being rationed. I cannot drink coffee so I didn't have a hot drink the entire time I was there. The fried selection was O.K. but others in our party wanted a Continental, i.e. a couple of croissants which is not unreasonable in an hotel. It was like a pub with no beer. Our other guests had single rooms and found their mattresses more comfortable. Perhaps they were less used being singles? However, no light above wash-basin and the female guest was assured that it would be attended to by next day. 3 days later....nothing. Shower gels etc. were there and soap which they removed when servicing the room and left me with no soap. Evening dining: we ate twice at the hotel, on arrival and on the night of leaving. Moderate to say the least. The dining room was attractive, bright and super views into Sefton Park, delightful However, on the edges of our table was a rim of sticky something, obviously only the tops had been wiped. The staff appeared careworn, obviously working to a tight budget, at the same time keeping the punters happy. No, never again.

    « Treat for Mum & Aunt »

Booked this place through Groupon and what a fab place in the city where the Fab Four are from! The staff were so friendly and helpful, even going the extra mile when we arrived we were so hungry from our journey but the kitchen was closed so the lovely receptionist went and made a selection of sandwiches for the four if us. The rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was sumptuous and plenty of it too. Top hotel with top staff. Thanks Liverpool.

    « Ruined anniversary stay »

We had originally booked a different Hallmark/Best Western Hotel in Warwick. However, a week or do before our stay we had a call to ask if we could swap our dates or move to another hotel as unfortunately they had a wedding on and had not booked rooms for the Bride and Grooms parents. We were more than happy to change hotel and be flexible and to thank us for this we were promised an executive suite with a bottle of fizz in our room. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed with our change of hotel and room (this mini break away was for our own wedding anniversary). Upon arrival it was evident that there was a wedding happening. Not a problem or so we thought until we were forced to sit in the hotel bar for around an hour as we were unable to get our car out of its parking space or indeed leave via the entrance/exit on foot as there were X2 wedding cars and all wedding guests having their photo taken in the front entrance. Whilst we have every understanding that photos are a big part of a bride and grooms day, we felt frustrated that we were unable to leave or not even shown an alternative route out of the hotel so that our plans were not interfered with. We felt we stuck in the middle of a reception whilst we were waiting in the bar area as guests trickled slowly back into the hotel and this made for quite an uncomfortable experience. Finally, after around an hour the photos had finished and all guests were back in the bar area so we were able to beat a hasty retreat to our chosen destination. After a lovely meal out, we returned and were confronted by a massive photobooth in the reception - needless to say we went straight to our room as it was clear that there were no communal areas that we were able to use (it was not explained to us upon check in that there was a wedding and we would be unable to use communal areas). This brings me onto the terrible nights sleep that we then endured, or rather lack of. As it began to get dark outside our room was cast in a blue light (even through the curtains). Puzzled as to what this was I looked out of the window to see what can only be described as mini floodlights on top of the front conservatory shining brightly up at the hotel and into our room. These were eventually turned off at around 130am. For the whole duration of the evening and into the early hours we had people congregating on the landing outside our room talking extremely loudly. It worsened around 0050am and out the front of the hotel there was lots of shouting and people beeping their horns. I'm assuming at this point the wedding had ended and people were waiting for a cab for their onward journey. Finally it quietened down at around 0120am - apart from the sound of a hoover and loud bangs?! Managed to drift off for an hour before the next round of guests decided to come in from a night out (presumably) & again stand chatting and laughing loudly on the landing area that our room was on. This was at around 3am. Cue an hour of tossing and turning before drifting into a restless sleep before being woken AGAIN at around 0510am by a massive loud bang that shook our headboard and this was again followed by chatting! I cannot express to you how tired we were, especially myself as I am pregnant and like my sleep even more so. This horrendous nights sleep meant that we were not able to fully enjoy our following days activity due to tiredness and, in all honesty, feeling very grumpy. We were also quite disappointed in our room. We were expecting a room upgrade and a bottle of fizz, however, the room was no bigger or special than any other double room and there was no sign of our complimentary bottle of fizz. I have seen management photos of the room we were staying in and it was described as a standard single, our bed was two beds zipped together. The executive double was somewhat roomier and nicer than the room we were given (I appreciate rooms can change but other than the beds being together there was no other difference). We really are not the sort to normally complain and would have let the room/fizz go if we'd had an enjoyable stay otherwise but due to the issues that I have outlined above, I felt strongly that we should say something about it. At no point were we informed that there was a wedding taking place or told where we were able to go in the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet affair which was fine but really nothing special - I have seen other reviews of people saying they had to pay extra for breakfast. Save your money and go elsewhere - you can get much nicer breakfasts for less. What was supposed to be a nice, relaxing anniversary weekend away turned into a not so relaxing, tiring and disappointing weekend. We wouldn't return to the Alicia.

« Is this really what you get for £100.00?! »

The outside the building was lovely but this is the end of the positive things' list for us. The receptionist explained with a fake smile on her face that our room is on the ground in the garden wing what gave us a hint that the wifi signal is not gonna be very strong.. it didn't work at all. Then the room was the tiniest we had ever seen. The bathroom seemed enormous after although it took for about 5 minutes while the toilet's water tank got refilled. Even we booked for 2 people there was only 1 towel, and 1 of each toiletries. Glad we didn't book breakfast for £10/person after these impressions.

    « Bad experience »

I booked this hotel for my boyfriend's birthday and paid a lot of money for a 1 night stay. Unfortunately, we were both very disappointed with our stay. We arrived at 16:45 and our room still hadn't been cleaned - we were asked to stand outside whilst the cleaner hoovered it. Then when we got into the room we were shocked at how small it was. We struggled to get ready in the room as there was no space at all. We were told we were in the garden room on arrival so expected a nice view. However, we had a frosted glass window and when we opened it, our view was a brick wall about a metre opposite our window - it was very dark and unpleasant. The room smelt damp and wallpaper was hanging off the wall. Also, stains on the carpets, blood stains on the white towel, and cobwebs on the ceiling. The worst part was, me and my boyfriend both woke up itching with red rashes on our back/legs after sleeping in the bed. I can only think that people who stay at the hotel for weddings are given different rooms as I can't understand how anyone can give this hotel a good review if all the rooms are the same as the one we stayed in. The only good thing I can say about it is that it is opposite a lovely park and not far from the City Centre. Overall, very disappointed at paying so much money for such a terrible room and certainly won't be staying here again.

    « Friends Wedding »

Attended a friends wedding, have to say it was brilliant. Attention to detail was on point, and service was excellent ! John is brilliant with all guests and his team really do an excellent job. All the staff give great service, but special mention to the bar staff who give prompt and pleasant service even when it's so busy.

    « 2 Star hotel 4 star prices »

The location of this hotel is very good, close to the Lark Lane area that has some lovely restaurants and a great atmosphere throughout the day and night. As for the hotel, the staff were helpful but the whole place needs a good clean. The rooms were so tiny (we had a double) and if we had had a full size suitcase we would have had to store it in the bathroom or leave it outside the room. The breakfast was excellent but the bar prices are outrageous and one the bar staff take a lot of had the cheek to consider that he was entitled to a £7 on a £23 round of drinks. I stayed at this hotel over 20years ago and, although they have done some redecorating, it is still a bit tacky and I recommend that with the number of hotels available in Liverpool do NOT pay the prices expected at this hotel. Also our room was not cleaned or the beds remade until late afternoon.

« Staff are so pleasant!!! »

The hotel was clean and modern, we had a lovely stay. The highlight was the staff member named Vlad. We went to reception at 12:30am but unfortunately room service was closed by this time. Vlad very kindly went and cooked us some hash browns, chicken nuggets and other snacks all free of charge. Whilst waiting he brought us out glasses on cranberry juice, which also totally free of charge. He was so polite and went out of his way for us. Would really recommend this hotel. Lovely staff and lovely service. 5 stars!!!! Thank you Vlad. From Aimee, Holly and Liv X

    « Wedding »

We got married at the Alicia on Friday 17th June. Everything was perfect at the Alicia. From the minute we arrived Jenny the wedding organiser and John the toastmaster made our day run exactly to plan. They took away the stress from us and simply allowed us to get on with enjoying our day. We had family staying over in the hotel. Everyone loved it. Our wedding was perfect. Jenny, John and all the staff work extremely hard. They go way beyond their duties to ensure you have the best day ever. Sharon and I can not thank each and everyone of the staff at the Alicia enough for everything they did for us. You are a brill team and we look forward to coming back and staying over with you again. Mark & Sharon P.s if your thinking about booking your wedding go and see Jenny. The Alicia is a lovely venue and as I've said before Jenny John and their team will look after you.

    « Family Room »

Stayed for 2 nights to attend a wedding & booked a family room for myself, my wife and our 14 year old son. The room was cramped to say the least, very little room between the double bed and the window, between the beds and between the single bed and the dresser/wardrobe & had to turn sideways to get between the beds and the bathroom wall, there was only one bedside table between the 3 of us. The decor is very dated, curtains hanging off and it certainly wasn't the cleanest place I have ever stayed - I must admit I was expecting a lot more for the price I paid. The redeeming feature was the food, fresh, well prepared and plentiful. I'm sorry but overall I really couldn't recommend this hotel.

    « Disappointing »

Expensive for what we got. Hotel quite dated Decor tired. Worst thing there was a wedding reception which meant we had no chance of getting to sleep before midnight. When the hotel was spoken to they said they were a function hotel and we should have expected this!!!

    « JULY WEDDING »

We booked this hotel as it had everything we where looking for an we wasn't disappointed the staff, food, rooms an the planning weeks an down to the day was perfect I highly recommend it! We had a woman called jenny co-ordinating our day an then we had a man called John for the final few details an that man is brilliant at his his job well they all are right down to the cleaners ,reception, bar staff an cooks the whole day went with out a hitch an when the party was over we asked if we could have a coffee/tea an a sneaky butty an the waiter made us all a massive plate of bacon buttys an chips (it was 1am) now that is how you run a hotel! The room we had as (bridal suite) I can't fault it,it was massive the bed was bloody comfy the bathroom was brilliant with a walk-in shower an a free standing bath with all the bits you need if you have forgotten anything! With such a lovely view from the room, we were looked after from beginning to end and our guests all had lovely things to say about the entire day! This is a must to visit anytime an for a wedding venue!

    « a very average stay »

This hotel is in a lovely position overlooking Sefton Park, but a long walk to bus stop to get into city centre. Lady on reception very helpful and sorted problems quickly. Beds comfy and everywhere very clean. Breakfast very poor, however the evening meal was good, but menu uninspiring. Nothing about this hotel that would make us want to return, everything just average. Sefton Park really lovely for walks, running, etc.

    « Disappointing Room »

I love the Alicia and we have stayed here many times without complaint. But on this visit we were given room 20, which is not much more than a box room. One side of the bed is three foot in front of you when you enter the room and there is no room to talk down the other side, which is almost against a window. Lots of cobwebs on the ceiling, but clean otherwise. Definitely not worth the very high rate for the night (over £100) and in any future bookings, I'll be checking to make sure we don't get this room again

    « Wedding Celebrations »

My son & daughter in law were married at The Alicia on April 23rd this year. From start to finish the wedding celebrations were planned & executed professionally and with care. Jenny the wedding coordinator & Matthew the maitre de were so helpful, Matthew never stopped all day, ensuring everything was running smoothly and all requests were met. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was fab and a great time was had by all. Thoroughly recommended!

    « Fab Function »

I attended a family Bat Mitzvah for my cousin. It was a great day. The staff were very efficient, polite and the Management were discreet and welcoming. As were the waiting staff. The food was an afternoon tea style and was fresh. The salmon sandwiches, in particular, tasted strongly of salmon. The cakes were lovely too. The room that we at in was nice and cool with a corner bar. I would recommend this venue for any small to medium sized party/function. Especially for people in Liverpool not wanting to travel far for a good venue. Thank you staff and management of The Alicia Hotel.

« Lovely setting opposite Sefton Park »

Hotel was based on in my view the "old look" heavy dark furniture, but the Glass room where the breakfast was served was lovely and light with nice touches on the table with orchid flowers. The room was nice but dark. My main objections was that there was no hot water in the room, now thi wasn't just our room, but our party had three rooms and none had hot water! So no shower could be used, nor a bath, shame because it's nice to find a hotel room with a bath. Our TV didn't work could only get the radio, we reported this but nothing happened. The price for the twin room was on rate for us based on the party having three rooms, originally the receptionist tried to charge more, BUT at £134 we felt this should have included breakfast, which was not! After complaining about no hot water, we was allowed a free breakfast. I think this hotel was over priced, perhaps it was because it was a Saturday night, with the Liverpool marathon going past the road, and a wedding in the hotel, prices were adjusted to coin in on these events. Went to Liverpool last year used a hotel just up from Liverpool Town Hall would use this again,as right in town, wouldn't have to use taxis. If visiting again.

    « Deceitful »

Our room looked nothing like the pictures of the rooms on the website, we ended up in a room with a double bed and sofa bed. The sofa bed was disgusting, mattress was all stained and the thickness of it was hilarious. Bathroom floor dirty and no bedding for sofa bed or not enough towels for the 3 of us sharing the room. Shelf in bathroom hanging on with dear life above the sink and shower that was more like a drizzly tap. Complained and we were greeted by the head of house keeping and some other lady dressed in a blue uniform who's attitude and customer service skills stunk! We we were paying guests whether they were busy with a wedding or not, when I said thankyou for her sorting the bathroom floor she didn't acknowledge and just slammed the door on the way out! I was not impressed with this hotel and won't be choosing a Best Western again in the future, it's put me off. Paid £57 each for one nights stay not including breakfast, how you can justify that I have no idea!? Think the CEO of Best Western should go under cover to see if the other hotels run by this chain run the same way. Reception staff were lovely though.

« Wedding day and stay. »

I could Honestly say this hotel is amazing for wedding. I had my wedding here on 13th may and everything was perfect. Jenny the planner was great from the start and they done everything i asked For. And on the day the hotel looked amazing. Food was beautiful inc the breakfast loads to choose from, and all the staff worked so hard to make the day perfect for us. The master of ceramonies, I think he was John was just amazing! He looked after us all day, anything we needed he got for us. Just an loverley amazing man and you could see he enjoys his job, a credit to the company. All the bar staff worked so hard but with smiles on their faces all day and night, DJ fun and had all the music we wanted. Our room the versaci room was beautiful, large and comftible.

« Good location and value »

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night, interior is slightly dated but clean. Secure car park is a bonus. Rooms are clean but could do with modernising. No aircon. Food is good quality. Room rates are reasonable for the area. There is a lovely park across from hotel and a lively area with bars and a good selection of restaurants only a 10 minute stroll away.

« Tiny room, cold weekend. »

The room was tiny! We stayed for my partners 30th, and we were attending the food and drink festival at Sefton Park which the hotel was ideally located for. We nearly stayed at the Travelodge in Aigburth (weve stayed here before) which was a total of just over £100 for the weekend, but thought i would treat my partner and spent £307 for the weekend instead. What a mistake! Room was half the size of a Travelodge room. Windows were single glazed (i assume the property is listed which would explain) but heating was also off. The weekend was cold therefore so were we. Pillows lumpy, no hot water from shower, no sound insulation from corridor outside. We arrived and the lock was hanging off the door frame, told reception and he said he would have a look. We ended up doing it ourselves using a nail file as a screwdriver (!) as i think he was on his own working and we had dinner reservations. Came back late (11pm) tried to get in the carpark using the buzzer but no answer, i walk around the front to see if there are any spaces and i see the receptionist walking around on the phone, looking at our car through the window. We wait another 10 mins. I get out again and enter the hotel where he is behind his desk.. he didnt know we were there as he was in the toilet. Dont lie to your guests. We both work in hospitality. Especially dont make it clear that you are working on your own on a Friday night with the doors unlocked.. We did peer into what looked like the honeymoon suite (same floor as us) on the Sunday morning, as the staff were turning it over. It looked incredible, with a walk-in shower and chandeliers bigger than me! Just don't book the 'normal' rooms for us peasants.

« Huge differences between rooms »

The hotel has really old rooms and new ones. We have had the bad luck to have one of the old ones and you can't sleep properly because the bed is moving at all time when you move. There was a wedding and we couldn't sleep with the music. We asked for changing our room to the side where you can't hear the music but is fully booked. Why do they sell these rooms when you can't sleep properly??they should accomodate here wedding guests and no visitors. Before booking, ask if there is a wedding and run away to other hotel.

    « Two nights »

Well good choice for location and peace and quite, the staff were all friendly and pleasant, if you could find them. The rooms were ok very small but comfortable and reasonably clean . Carpets had crimps hair etc. However beds were comfortable clean and fresh. The hotel in general was cold and the bar very expensive (lark lane 5 mins walk great) Breakfast was substantial and good I think out of 5 a 3 is a good mark

    « Lovely venue »

Attending an afternoon event here today, we were very well looked after, beautiful sandwiches, wedges, chicken and even dessert! We sat in the front part of the hotel a conservatory type room which was lovely and over looked the park.

    « great location that's about it »

the hotel is opposite Sefton Park and in walking distance to Lark Lane, two great places to visit, Lark Lane is ideal for restaurants and bars, a vibrant night life in such a compact area, sadly the hotel lacked in almost all departments, the reception looked tired and a little worn down, the room was dated, the shower was not the best, decor wasn't how the pictured on the hotel website depicted, the window rattled through out the night.... at breakfast the floor was covered in crumbs and bread from the evening before, the food was best described as mediocre, i asked for a coffee and was given instant, the coffee machine by the bar was never used on the two mornings i was in the breakfast room. i did try to talk with the manager but he just walked away when i spoke with him, he never bothered to return to finish our conversation after i waited fro 15 mins, not a place i will be going back to, for much the same price i would travel into the city for a better choice and service.

« Short break in liverpool »

Found this hotel ideal for us on our 3 night stay as I was reluctant to drive into Liverpool city centre. Short walk to the bus route into the city, approx 20 minutes ride. Located next to lovely Sefton Park, watching the joggers over breakfast! All staff were very friendly and efficient, food was excellent including the breakfast buffet. Room was small but was clean and had everything required. Free WiFi was very quick.

« 6 years later, still as pleasing as my first visit »

I have spent nearly 80 nights over the last 6 years here and never had a bad night, I've eaten here on 75% of my nights and never had a bad meal and had breakfast pretty much every morning and its always a great start to my day. Gossy is an artist as well as a chef and never fails to impress. There is ample free parking, with a secure gated area to the back, which for me is a huge bonus and helps me to relax. There is free wifi and I could get a 30mbps+ connection at all times in my room and in public areas. The staff are always pleasant and polite and will always try their best and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. John and Bernie in particular have always been very attentive and have enjoyed plenty of banter there with them. There is a fairly ok bar with a fair selection, not the best stocked bar I've ever seen but there was always something there which suited my mood, and its usual hotel prices, which are expensive, but not more than what anywhere else charges. I wholeheartedly and sincerely recommend this hotel and always stay here when working within a 45-60 min drive as it is ideally located for me.

    « Lovely hotel, breakfast wasn't fab »

Visited Liverpool a year ago as a little one night get away! On arrival we had a warm welcome by the lady on reception and they had upgraded us to a nicer room! When we got to the room it was so big! With a nice bathroom attached! I couldn't have asked for anything more (perhaps a larger television)... We then went out to explore and look for a restaurant and when we came back we got a couple of drinks, the barmaid was a bit grumpy- as though she wanted to be elsewhere but we weren't really bothered as we'd had a great room. Therefore we left and went to the room. Breakfast was a little disappointing, we arrived at around 9 and there wasn't much food left over, and staff weren't around to ask for more hot food. We decided to just leave it. All in all the room was lovely, I just think that staff need to be a bit more customer friendly. However it was nearly a year ago now so it'd be interesting to come back and see what changes have been made.

« Excellent value overnight stay with breakfast included »

Enjoyable overnight stay opposite Sefton Park. Our room which overlooked the park was compact, but adequate after all it was for an overnight stay. It covered our needs with hot drink and wifi facilities being free and the room was very clean with bath/shower.The hotel is just a few minutes drive from the centre of Liverpool in a quiet area and it has secure parking(free). The breakfast was excellent with a wide buffet choice and very helpful pleasant staff. We shall use this hotel again for a base for Liverpool. Although it rained all the time we had a good time visiting Speke Hall(National Trust), the Port Sunlight Museum(which has an excellent cafe with reasonable prices) and the adjoining Art Galley.

    « Great value »

My wife and stayed for just one night after attending the Hillsborough memorial service at Anfield. We were greeted by a cheery receptionist and booked on with the minimum of fuss. Our room (No.17) was on the first floor at the bottom of a very narrow corridor (maybe Alicia in Wonderland?) The room was small but perfectly formed for our needs. The strange thing was the bathroom door hanging off its hinges, we reported it to the management just in case we were chief suspects. The only problem I had (which is my personal bugbear) was the squeaky floorboards in our room and the corridors. The young bar staff in the early evening were polite and courteous which I'm afraid didn't apply to the older barman in the early hours, who I felt didn't like the graveyard shift and tried his best to portray that feeling towards us. Maybe a smile and a "Good Evening" would suffice in future? The breakfast was tasty and plentiful (even the coffee ring at the bottom of my clean cup didn't deter me) On the whole a 3.5 out of 5...but could do better.

    « Great stay »

Stayed for one night. Staff very welcoming on arrival. The rooms were not huge but had everything we needed and were clean, although a little tired. We went out to Lark Lane for the evening which was a great find, lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance so no need to go into Liverpool, although we did the the following day and only cost £7. The breakfast was very good with a good selection and the food was plentiful and hot. We will definitely be going back for another visit. My only criticism is attention to detail - there were a lot of bulbs out around the hotel (a particular bugbear of mine). Look forward to my next visit

« fawlty towers without the atmosphere »

The room was small. The worrying bit was the 3 steps down into the room when you entered. With the short delay of lighting when switched on it could and probably has caused some accidents. The hotel was very quiet and the bar man had simply no personality at all.

    « Our Wedding - Easter Saturday »

We got married at the Alicia Hotel on Sat 26 March. We had a small intimate service of 40 in the day, and then around 130 in the evening. I'm incredibly meticulous, massive on detail, and I have to say that I could not fault one single thing about the whole day. John, who was MC - was quite simply incredible. I've never met anyone as professional, yet friendly and impeccably organised all at the same time. John was superb, he was there from beginning to end and took all of the hassle out of the day for us. We didn't have to think about anything, other than enjoying ourselves and taking it in. In terms of the actual venue, the hotel has a lovely personal feel to it, not too big or small - just right. The glass house at the front is lovely and bright with views of the park, we had our service here and our wedding breakfast. Food was presented really well, and the guests loved it. Service was great and we weren't rushed. There is also a bar on the ground floor, ideal for pre & post service drinks. We had a singer in here, he also sung during the meal - which was great. For our reception, there was a larger room downstairs which was decorated exactly how my wife had requested. We had a band play in the evening and the hotel also provided a DJ (who was really good)! I must say all the staff were fantastic, to name a few who stood out John (MC), 'little' John, Kevin (on the bar in the reception)... The booking and planning process was great too. We first booked in November 2014 and had just under 18 months to prepare. Jenny the sales manager, again took all the hassle out of this with regular meetings and they bent over backwards to cater to any requests we had! Finally, we had a lot of our wedding party stay the night before and on the night. The rooms were great, really clean and cosy. Out of ten I'd have to give the team and hotel an eleven out of ten. Thank you so much - Austin & Sarah

    « Sons Wedding »

Our son & daughter in law held there wedding here on good Friday 25/3/16, my wife & myself booked in for three nights. As we where parents of the groom we where given the directors suite a beautiful room very clean & with a four post bed. On the day of the wedding the attention to detail was amazing the weather was brilliant so the wedding was carried out in the gardens, a gorgeous setting for a wonderful day. The wedding organiser John was amazing paying attention to every little detail while not intruding on the day I can not fault any part of the day & if anyone considering a wedding here strongly recommend it, thank you for a fantastic day!

Would highly recommend this venue. We could not find one fault about the whole experience. John the Master of Ceremonies made the experience amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and his experience made the day run very smoothly. The food was of a very high standard and nothing was too much trouble for the staff The rooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable.

« Lovely visit , great value Groupon deal »

Lovely weekend break at the Alicia. Hotel was clean , and although our room was small, it was pleasant. Friendly staff on reception - gave us some tips on where to visit locally for a meal. Good value deal via Groupon - prosecco and chocs - would visit again

« Small Room, lacking attention to detail »

We stopped at the Alicia Hotel the location could not be better for Sefton Park and Lark Lane. The room we were given was so small even the wardrobe did not have a door as it would not have been able to open with the bed in the way. (room 19) On arrival the outside window ledge had tab ends and an empty water bottle which i had to remove. I ordered a morning paper and had to go down to reception to pick it up even though it had my room number on the paper. The staff were fine and very helpful but just that lack of attention to detail let the hotel down. As a Gold Best Western member i have stopped in much better BW than this with bigger rooms for less money £124 per night.

I have stayed here before and always been comfortable. I asked for a quiet room, and it was. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Restaurant food is of a good standard and good value. Breakfast had plenty of choice. Nice location opposite Sefton Park. Would recommend.

« Our wedding at The Alicia Hotel »

Aside from the great location, the hotel and grounds are beautiful....what really makes this hotel is the staff. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the housekeeping staff are a credit to the hotel. The food prepared for us was outstanding, we received quality and quantity. The reception staff friendly and helpful...special mention to Jamie who was always smiling. But above all, our most special thanks to Jenny and John. Jenny took all the stress out of the planning the arrangements at the venue....she was available by phone, email or in person for help, tips and advice. And again...always smiling. We felt totally comfortable in her handling everything as she is so professional and organised. John is an excellent Master of Ceremonies, a great guy who kept everything running smoothly all day and made sure everyone was were they were supposed to be. John really does go above and beyond to make sure you have the best day. All our friends and family have commented on what a great time they had....how they enjoyed the food and the venue etc. Again...many thanks to all at the hotel. We couldn't have done it without you! Kindest regards to all, Louise & Tony

    « Great stay »

Booked using a groupon worth what we paid. Had prosecco and chocolates. Room was clean and functional. Was very warm but turned radiator off and opened window. Some of tiles in bathroom in need of repair but facilities in good use. Evening meal was excellent and my steak was cooked to perfection. Breakfast view in the glass house was stunning overlooking Sefton park.

    « Few days away »

We found the Alicia pleasant enough. The room and bathroom was clean. The breakfast was plentiful and catered for everyone's taste. The only thing we found was the evening menu was very limited. I ordered chicken as a main. It came and was very dry. If I hadn't ordered a side of vegetables my meal would of been ruined. My husband ordered scose stew and looked like it had come out of a can. Yes we should of complained but didn't want to cause a scene.

    « Stunning views »

Bought our stay through Groupon. I think we paid around £100 for two nights b&b. Lovely, lovely hotel. About 2 miles from central Liverpool which was fine for us as we had the car but we did also walk it and the walk was pleasant. The breakfast room/conservatory/glass room looks out over Sefton Park which is absolutely stunning and huge! Perfect setting for us. The hotel staff were all friendly, prompt and helpful. The room was clean, had a lovely view of the outside courtyard and was warm. The room was basic but had a nice big bed with quality duvet and pillows. Generally on the small side but for two people it was fine and who sits in the room all day and night anyway? Shower was lovely and warm once it got going. Heated towel rail, toiletries, plenty of loo roll. Option to skip on housekeeping for eco purposes and in return receive a drinks voucher each - very happy with that! The building itself was beautiful, full of character. To sit in the glass room for brekkie and watch a magpie bathing in the fountain in the front yard, overlooking the park, just sets you up right for the day! Breakfast was served. buffet style and had enough options for everyone. Full English, cereal, croissants, yogurt, fruit, toast, jam, honey and an array of other pastries. The coffee was delicious. Some other nice touches were things like cakes at reception to help yourself to and little glass coke-style bottles of home made lemonade dotted around in specific rooms and reception. Lovely hotel. Will definitely stay again should we visit Liverpool. 100% recommend.

    « Absolutely Disgusting »

12.03.16 We arrived at the Best Western, Alicia Hotel at 1 o'clock as we had paid for early check-in to which we weren't even greeted with a smile or a polite "hello". Myself and my family were actually quite appalled by the lack of hospitality the two employees showed us. Especially the older gentleman he had a miserable expression on his face, not once did he say hello to us and he just pottered around the lobby muttering away to himself. First impression was that we were glad we would only have to stay here for the one night as I wouldn't want to be made to feel more unwelcome than we already did. Anyway, we went up to our room. Opened the main bedroom door and there was another door as you walked in which I thought the bathroom was behind and I was shocked and absolutely disgusted by what I saw in front of me. As per the photo attached the boiler room was open and not even in a pristine condition it was vile. My mother couldn't belive they have allowed a paying guest access to this room from within our bedroom. It is a disgrace - I went straight down to reception and confronted the employee at the desk. Not one apology was made from either of the staff. The elder of the two simply responded with "that is the boiler room, I will go and shut it". As if I didn't know it was the boiler room and I was stupid? Back to the bedroom, the carpet was filthy and sticky, didn't look like it had seen a hoover in years. The curtains covered in either cigarette burns or had been moth eaten. The radiator was awful and mouldy on the inside. The window had a gap in it which couldn't be closed, stains from previous guests and when pulling the bedsheets back the mattress topper was covered in hair and stains and what looked like insect faeces. We paid £150.00 for the night which was at a discounted rate and I feel robbed. I wouldn't be going back to that hotel in a rush, actually I'd never go back at all.

« Good for the price - nothing special otherwise »

Stayed here with work recently. Definitely nothing special, rooms are a little dated and the interior of the hotel could do with a general spruce up. However, breakfast is good, beds are comfortable and exterior of the hotel has an almost nice feel. Location was great for us. I don't know Liverpool but this place is on the edge of a park and a short walk away from a street with a bunch of restaurants. We had a great dinner in one of those places. This place is pretty good considering the price. But bear that in mind and remember how much you're paying.

    « Don't waste your money »

Booked a nights stay at the Alicia, decided to book an executive room For a better experience, when we arrived we was given a room On the 2nd floor (44) this room was tiny and not like any of the pictures on the many web sites you can book from, so we complained and given we got moved to a different room, (32) this room was bigger but the quality was still no better! No toiletries in the bathroom whats so ever not even soup! The towels where dirty and stained good job we taken our own, the bedding was dirty looked like either blood or worse! On the top of the duvet! As for the shower well it either didn't work at all or it was too hot then freezing cold! For £150 I expected a lot better from this hotel! Iv stayed in budget hotels and had a better experience! Iv since complained and asked for a full refund! Honestly do not waste a penny on this hotel! The only good thing about the hotel was the breakfast! And the reception staff!

    « Always Great »

Stay here at least once per week, always spot on. The team are the friendliest I have found in any hotel and stay out 3-4 nights per week. would have no problem recommending. Breakfast is pretty consistent too!

    « Pleasant Stay »

Stayed for three nights on a Groupon deal. Nice big room, friendly staff, good breakfast and lovely setting overlooking Sefton Park. Spent most of our time out and about sightseeing. Good location for Liverpool centre and Docks. The only niggle was our room key card kept failing, had to get reception to activate it every day.

    « Disappointed!! »

Rooms are tired, stayed in room no.33. Unpleasant smell when entering room. Bathroom okay, water pressure poor in shower. Room clean but very small. The accommodation is over priced, would not stay there again! The saving grace is the breakfast and the friendly staff!

« Lovely Staff and Food »

Have stayed here on many occasions over the past two years so this review is an amalgam of them all. In purely hotel terms, the Alicia isn't really anything special. Belonging to the Feathers Group within the Best Western family, it tends to to be a bit inconsistent. Some of the rooms are dated and very occasionally I had problems with the heating or electrics. However, the rooms were always clean, tidy and generally well maintained. There are two reasons why I kept coming back here, and they are the staff and the hotel restaurant. The staff were always efficient on check in/out and helpful whenever I did have an issue. Special mention must go to the breakfast staff too, always greeting me with a smile and my usual coffee in the mornings. The hotel restaurant is criminally underused (the variety of Lark Lane is only just down the road), considering the standard of the food. I can honestly say I never had a bad meal here over the last two years. If you're in the area, try it. You won't be disappointed! All in all, I enjoyed my stays here and will be sad not to be returning anytime soon.

« Pass up on room service to get a free drink »

Booked into the Alicia on a Groupon deal for two nights Very nice large old building that has been added on to standing in the Sefton Park. It was originally owned by a cotton trader Very friendly reception on arrival who were later very helpful when I needed help printing out our return train ticket. Our room was very small but comfortable with the downside of very squeaky floorboards every movement from the room above us was apparent. Has to be said on our first night this kept me awake and also in the early hours I was woken by some guy snoring, maybe above us or on the same landing as us. I usually take earplugs when travelling but forgot them. Anyway the second night was fine and the included breakfast was very nice which included full english, cereals, cheese, croissants etc quite a decent spread. Buses into Liverpool are on the main road which is about a five minute walk away and it is £4.20 for a day ticket. Worth pointing out that if you are ok passing on your bed being made up you are given a token for a free drink (each) up to a limit of three days. This equated to any pint, glass of wine, or a short. The hotel is only a couple of miles from the city so although we didn't use a taxi I am sure they would be relatively cheap for such a short distance I give a rating of 4 out of 5 as the room realistically was too small and did not live up to the rooms illustrated online. Also as I have said a little noisier than most other hotels we have stayed in

Very comfortable stay. Lovely professional friendly staff. Big comfortable bed, pillows ok. Towels were a bit rough, not fluffy and soft. Breakfast was good, quality meat, lots to choose from. Help yourself which I prefer, freshly cooked and very tasty. The breakfast staff were attentive. All in all a great stay and we would stay again.

« The basics are what's truly important »

I stayed here with my elderly gran and partner. The hotel isn't a shabby chic modern hotel but It was lovely retaining the old style character any hotel should have. The rooms were very comfortable and had everything we needed..including ipod dock..the breakfast and tea was excellent quality food, and the staff were polite and helpful. Our 2 night stay was brilliant and we felt extremely welcome as what's important is getting the basics right. .this hotel had ample.

« Nice but not work the money »

It was a nice hotel. However, the shower took 10 minutes to warm up and the double room was 2 single beds put together. There was also a function on which was quite loud. A lot further from the town center than advertised (about an hour walk or £4-5 taxi journey). A nice stay, but paid £95 for a night and didn't think it was worth this much.

« A good venue for Liverpool visits »

This hotel is very good for staying in when you are in Liverpool. Unlike its sister hotel right in the city centre, this is a quieter place, overlooking Sefton Park, and also has secure parking if needed. The rooms are well appointed, clean, tidy and spacious. Be aware that there is only a central lift, so you may have to walk a short way to your room, along corridors. The restaurant food is good, varied and well presented. This is not my first visit to this hotel, and will not be my last.

« A tired hotel run by tired staff »

All poor. My wife and I had single occupancy of 2 double rooms for 2 nights. The heating didn't work and was reported. A dirty towel from a previous occupant was still there. Half the light bulbs didn't work. The rooms were tiny for 2 people. We had to ask twice for soap in my wife's room. A used wine glass was not removed when the room was cleaned. There was no bathmat. Reception only programmed my keycard for one night when I was staying for 2. When I asked for a map of the city, I was supplied one - in Spanish. The menu was small but a number of items were missing, even though there appeared to be few diners. There were lightbulbs missing in the restaurant.Breakfast was lukewarm. On the first night the small bar was full. Nobody was staffing it so if any customer wanted a drink they had to go to reception. Various wine and whiskey stocks both ran out. There was a big hole in the back of the door which looked as though it had been there some time.

    « Lovely hotel »

We booked a nights stay in January online And as the prices were quite cheap I decided to go for a bigger room. The room was lovely king size bed, sofa and flat screen tv. The room was bright and clean the only down side was the bathroom which did not match the room and could use a little tlc. The staff were lovely and friendly and happy to help. We came back quite late and had to ring the bell, a man came to let us in. I asked for the post code as I was needing something to eat he was more than happy to help me and told me some take ways that would be open. He also said that he would make us a sandwich to save us ordering food. Will definitely be back

    « Ideal situated »

Visited 23 - 25th Jan Second time at the Alicia hotel. We'd booked on line and requested a specific room. We were greeted by a receptionist with a huge welcoming smile, looked up our details and mentioned we'd requested a particular room. He said he'd placed us in an adjacent room but would change us if it didn't meet our needs. It more than met our expectations. It was an altogether better experience than our last visit. We didn't have breakfast or visit the bar so cannot comment on these areas. At reception I'd asked if we could have an iron, Ironing board & a couple if extra Pillows. Within a few minutes of getting to our room the receptionist arrived with the items. Looking forward to our next visit.

    « Very nice. »

Visited on 17 Jan. Had opted for upgraded room and weren't disappointed. Hotel is very clean and room was nice. We were there to see city so didn't spend too much time in the room but from what we did it was lovely. Only fault would be the bathroom. The finish in there could be better to match the rest of the standards of the hotel. All in all a good stay. I worked in the hotel briefly 13 years ago so wanted to see if the standards were as high now and they were. Will definitely return to this hotel when the price is so good.

« Bad service and experience!!! »

Stayed in hotel for one night and room was nice and clean but the rest was terrible. First was when we walked into the room, it was like walking into the fridge. Room was so cold and single glazed windows probably don't help. Then in the bathroom, there was a big window looking out onto the road and no curtains or blinds, so had to shower with out lights. Small light in the bathroom didn't work either. Eventually got into the shower and then figured out that there is no hot water, so had to take a cold shower. Went down to the bar and nobody was there to serve, so went to the restaurant in the next room and nobody there either. Had to walk into city for a dinner. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone, I stayed in many hotels and never had a problem. So I don't recommend staying in this hotel.

    « A disappointing Best Western, sorry. »

Stayed at this hotel for one night with work so not sure about price but don't think it was too bad (around £50 perhaps including breakfast). The hotel is located right on the edge of Sefton Park, has free secure parking & within walking distance of a Lark Lane that consisted of plenty of bars & restaurants. Staff were friendly & check in was quick. We didn't have our evening meal at the hotel as there was a private party on so I can't comment on that, however I can comment on the very average breakfast - self service, lukewarm cooked food (sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, beans & squashy hashbrowns) & eventually some cold toast & tea after asking several times - not impressed. Had I paid for the room myself I would not have been happy with the room I was allocated, it was in the garden area, downstairs from reception, no view from the window other than looking out at a tree & part of the rear car park & had to climb over the bed to get to the window! Bathroom was fairly large but not nice, the window was so high up I couldn't reach to close it so it was cold. Everything seemed really worn, tired & dark, overall disappointing. I have stayed in many other Best Westerns but sadly I'd have to say this is one of the worst. For a hotel in such a good location & occupying a lovely old building it desperately needs some TLC & dosh spent. Sorry but I would not recommend & would not particularly want to stay here again.

Stayed at the hotel for one night on 9th January. Hotel was very quiet as just after Christmas but none the less, we had a very comfortable visit. Our ensuite room was very nicely decorated and very pleasant, beds were comfy. Room temperature was good, complimentary tea and coffee, and our room overlooked Sefton Park. We had booked an evening meal in the restaurant, and we were looked after by Lisa, who was very attentive. Food was delicious. Next morning there was a buffet style breakfast where you can help yourself. Lots of choice of fruit, cereal, continental, or full English. Again, very tasty. Overall a very good place to stay for a short break. Would definitely recommend.

« Friday night overnight stay »

Checked in ok. Took lift to first floor, then down some 6 stairs. Room small and dark, bathroom ventilator very noisy. Double bed more like 1.1/2 single bed for large people not great. Furniture needs updating, loose the wardrobe could hang dresses up in there and was at the bottom of the bed no access to get around apart from climbing over the bed! As it was dark when we arrived, and the lighting not great wasnt till the morning noticed that you really when changing the bed linen the valence should also be changed due to the amount of stains on it - and not in just one place! The bar area both rooms no heating on had to sit with coats on. Would have been nice for reception to advise staying guests that there would be a disco on until after 1am. Stayed in Best westerns before, but nothing like this, needs alot of work on this hotel - such a lovely area to stay in but wouldn't stay again.

« One night stay, thank god »

Let's start with the good points, bed was comfortable ( and that's as far as it goes ) Check in was easy, given room key and used the stairs to get to our room, second floor, room layout some what difficult to understand but whatever. Room was small, had all the necessary things in however had I stayed any longer than one night I would of gotten very uncomfortable and considering I booked an executive room I was very disappointed. Bathroom was small but clean, shower was shocking and had next to no power in it, again good job I only stayed one night. Room was ridiculously hot all night despite turning the radiator right down, not sure what the deal with that was. Lampshades and furniture was worn and tatty, didn't really seem to match and not sure what you'd decorate such a small room with dark wood. Around the windows were very dirty, I'm a 20 year old student so if it's dirty by my standards you know something is wrong. And to top it all off there was a party going on downstairs until God knows what time in the morning. Again I am a 20 year old student so don't mind a late night, but when I am paying for a relaxed weekend away that's what I expect. DJ playing until atleast 1am, guests leaving were very noisy. Overall, not impressed with my stay at all, especially considering what I have paid to stay there. Take my advice and spend the extra £20 on a hotel, you'll only pay that for parking in the city centre anyway because it's so far away.

« Fine for my short stay »

I stayed two nights at a good rate, in a small but comfortable room at the back of the hotel (without a park view - with a fire-escape view and frosted-glass windows to hide it). The free Wi-Fi worked fine and the hotel was very quiet and relaxed. As I was visiting friends, I dined-out with friends, so did not sample the hotel's dining, although the restaurant looked very attractive. The bed was reasonably comfortable, although I prefer a softer one. The room had a good-sized TV, wall-mounted at the foot of the bed. The in-room tea/coffee facility had nice (Kenco) coffee and biscuits.

    « Mid week stay »

We had booked a standard double room but on arrival, being members of The Best Western Rewards Scheme, our room was upgraded to the Directors Suite. My first words on entering the room were "wow". The room was large with a four poster bed and antique furniture plus there was a very large bathroom with both a bath and a seperate shower. We had a view over Sefton Park and although the hotel was on a main road, it was very quiet at night. The hotel was about a 20 minute walk to the city centre but we chose to walk a short distance to the bus stop which took us right into the centre. We left our car in the secure car park at the hotel. We close to eat in the hotel every evening with the food being excellent and very good value. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you don't mind not being in the centre of the city. We will definitely return.

We found this hotel very pleasant indeed, the room was very nice, the staff made us feel very welcome, all the food was top standard and the breakfast was cooked very well, with lots of choices, the coffee was top quality too. We were a little worried after reading that negative remarks had been left about this hotel. We think that the negative remarks left were unfounded.

The only one good point I can make is Bernie in the bar! Very helpful happy chap!! Won't be staying there again

    « Wasn't impressed »

The room was very small, boyfriend had to squeeze past the wardrobe to get to his side of the bed. Bathroom was nice, small but very clean. Room had tv, desk, hairdryer, wardrobe, cd/music player mounted on the wall. There was a wedding reception on, which I completely understand but had I been warned, I wouldn't have stayed there. It was extremely loud and banging thumping music until the early hours followed by annoying drunk people. Only remembered to get photos once we were in the bar!

    « Average at best! »

Not brilliant... Bottom end of 3 star I think. Just visiting my daughter at uni in Liverpool so wanted something cheap and cheerful.. Cheap it was but not very cheerful! Room tatty and in need of a spruce up and I wouldn't really say it felt that clean. On a positive, bathroom was the best feature- roomy and good to have a nice shower and free parking and taxi into docklands £6. Reception staff polite and helpful too. Would I go again... Maybe for one night if I got the same deal.

« Not what it says on the brochure »

Booked a double room in this hotel for 1 night, excellent location, facing Sefton park,5 minute taxi ride to Liverpool centre, the staff both day and night were extremely helpful, and knowledgeable about where to go and do on a Saturday night in ,Liverpool.Breakfast was excellent, but that's where the praise stops,if you are doing a quick 1 or 2 night stay, the double rooms are just manageable, for £140 a night I really did expect better, room although double was box room ,with very dated furniture,I would recommend the staff as they were great, this hotel, needs an urgent upgrade.

    « Lovely location »

Close to city, yet quiet and serene location; Room small but clean and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly. Worth staying if only to sample the sausages for breakfast! Absolutely beautiful, as was the whole breakfast.

« Lovely hotel overlooking Sefton Park. »

On arrival I found the hotel looked very attractive. All lit up with lovely blue lights. The reception staff very helpful. Hotel decorated nice and very traditional. My room was nice and comfortable. Very quiet. Breakfast was really nice and staff very efficient. Would stay at this hotel again. Only just over £5.00 pounds in a taxi from the city centre and on a bus route.

    « Decent place as a base »

The Alicia is a decent place but nothing special. We stayed two nights on a Groupon deal which made it good value for money. Our room was a good size with a nice en suite. The hot water took some time to arrive but when it did it was OK. The breakfast was buffet style and perfectly acceptable. The hotel is a taxi ride from the city centre costing about £6 one way which may put some people off but it was fine for us....if fact the taxi drivers were very friendly and gave us some good advice about where to eat and drink. On the plus side the staff were friendly and efficient, there is plenty of off road free parking and the hotel offers free WiFi. I would stay here again if more deals became available.

« Faded glory and higgelty-piggelty corridors with too many doors and stairs. »

We were part of a group using the hotel for a meeting. Staff were pleasant at reception and prior to our visit as booking was to be made direct. However, their friendliness could not compensate for the general feeling of faded glory in this large Victorian house that has been turned into an hotel with rooms squeezed into every possible nook, bathrooms shoe-horned in, stairs and corridors in all directions and lots and lots of doors to push open. Our room was one of the larger ones but it was far from comfortable. Wifi was free if slow. Breakfasts were buffet style and unappetising so we gave two of the four breakfasts a miss. And the group dinners were not really exciting. The hotel is outwith the centre so access is best by car or taxi though a 5-7 minute walk gets you to buses to the centre. Sefton Park is opposite the hotel. And expect weddings!

« Friendly hotel - great for business and leisure stay »

Stayed at the BW Alicia for 4 nights whilst on business. Check in easy and efficient. Staff very friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Room was cosy and had every thing you would need. My only issue was that the shower was more of a drizzle and at times actually stopped for a minute or so - not great when head covered in shampoo Room at the back was quite peaceful and overlooks the garden Opposite Sefton Park which is lovely Food fine, breakfast brilliant!

« Well out of town »

This is a wedding/function hotel. It is rough at all the edges and you really need a car or taxi. We were in one of the larger rooms (which did have a couch) but as we had been told the wedding party noise fired through our floor and walls until midnight. We had a good side view but noise from the kitchen fan and kitchen area below. Hot water in the morning was not steady). Breakfast was very poor as were group dinners. There are restaurants near by (Lark Lane) but they looked poor too. Best to buy food at the Co Op on Lark Lane and take it back. Good acess to the Sefton Park.

Very nice hotel with polite and friendly staff, the hotel its self has great character. The food is excellent and the price is very good. Location is good and quite with only a short drive to the city center. I have been here a number of times over the past couple of years and will continue to do so.

« A Wedding Venue First and Foremost »

We stayed at this hotel and paid for an upgraded room for to attend a wedding. it was only an averaged size room but the TV was fine. The room was dark with little lighting and had dust in lots of places. Over the days we were there, our carpet was never hoovered or the room dusted but the bathroom was cleaned. No water came from the shower on any morning, only from the basin so we took showers at night and my husband shaved then too. The food was fine and staff helpful. Unfortunately another wedding came in on our second night and we were shocked at the noise in our room from guests outside on the patio in the afternoon and from the band at night. I expect our wedding made the same noise. Ok if you are from that weddding party.

« 2 night stay was so different each day »

Nice Hotel stayed before for my Daughters wedding, so decided to spend a 2 night break here. Thursday night arrived late after 22.00hrs greeted and given room key, nice room comfortable, breakfast was a delight, I requested smoked haddock but was told it was not available, then the waiter came back to say chef had some haddock and he would cook it for me, which I would give 9/10 for taste & presentation. I pre ordered the same for the next morning. Came back to find a wedding in full swing and very noisy until I finally go to sleep around 02.30hrs. Breakfast next morning was a sham no fish as pre ordered poached egg finally brought from the kitchen but no bacon or mushrooms left was told they would be another 5 minutes. no condiments or marmalade on table waitress very grumpy and not helpful at all, 9/10 for 1st night + breakfast 1/10 for 2nd night+ egg as there was no breakfast

    « Dirty and Disappointing »

We stayed over the busiest weekends in Liverpool with freshers and the football meaning the price was considerably higher at £149 a night. Although the staff were lovely and very helpful, the room was extremely dirty. There was dust all around the bed and skirting boards that had been there for some time. Under the bed sheets rev leaves hairs from the previous user. I've contacted the management but no one had got back to me as yet. Shame as I wouldn't be so negative but at £149 this is unacceptable for the price . was also very grim with hairs from previous users l.

« Not the best western »

The hotel is dated and the decor is tired. However, most of the staff are enthusiastic and more than willing to help in any way they can. Initially we had room 28, we had an issue with the room and on calling reception the lady offered us another room, which was really kind of her, room 42, she was even willing to haul our bags for us, of course we declined her offer. During our stay we had various requests to reception and despite other reviews there was always someone there to answer our call. The bed linen was clean and the room was airy and light. There was a wedding reception being held at the hotel but we were never disturbed by the celebrations. On our last day the duty manager allowed us to leave our car at the hotel whilst we done some last minute shopping in the city centre, which was good as I don't much like driving around city's.

    « great stay »

Ok start with the negative, the hotel is dated and always hot. That being said the hotel oozes charm in it,s design and at least it was not cold. My wife and I booked an executive room and were given a very small but nice room on the first floor overlooking the park. I initially contacted the staff to be told that the room was indeed an executive room because of it's location overlooking the park. An hour later ,without prompting, I had a call from the receptionist to ask if I would like to move to a bigger room. The room I was given was the family room at the back which was beautiful. All the staff were great and pleasant and extremely helpful.

« Fantastic venue and location for our convention. »

We booked The Alicia hotel for our club's four day convention and it was fantastic.! The management and staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and professional. We needed a small, personal hotel for our fifty elderly members near to Liverpool. We enquired at approximately twelve hotels in and around Liverpool before choosing The Alicia for our function. We were impressed by the general presentation and the value for money that it represented. No hotel could offer us anything like the accommodation and use of function rooms, technical equipment without extra charge in such a good location close to the city as well as its position in Sefton Park. Jenny, the sales manager, met us on numerous occasions before the event and answered our queries or requests without hesitation. We got everything we wanted at an amazing rate.Their attention to detail was excellent from the moment we arrived through to our gala dinner using our logo whenever possible. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, well presented meeting the needs of our members. Being a lovely historic building the bedrooms were all different shapes and sizes. Our room was beautiful with fantastic views of Sefton Park in Autumn. Our members highly praised the hotel and staff for the efforts they made to make us feel welcome. We would use this hotel again without hesitation either for a group convention or as a location for a holiday break.

    « Enjoyable stay »

My third stay at the Alicia, hopefully be back there at the end of October. The rooms I've stayed have been both very comfortable and clean, small but I'm only there to put me head down. Staff are very friendly and the breakfast is very good. Alicia is situated in a very nice area, Sefton Park.

« Good location but unimpressed »

Very small room, shower a bit hit and miss, toilet didn't always stop flushing. Main problem was a party of young men drinking noisily and banging doors until 5am, though not the hotel's fault. Easy secure car parking. Good location, next to the beautiful Sefton Park and thriving restaurants of Lark Lane.

    « Full toilet HORROR. »

I stayed here and was booked in for 3 nights. A nice hotel and you cannot take this away. But when I went to my room I found the toilet was broken and the remains of the last guests was still there, HORROR !!!. I tried to flush the toilet but it would not. The overwelming mix of what was in the toilet and a very strong smell of bleach ( which was irritating my eyes and chest) left me with no option but pay a visit to reception, I was informed that a handyman would be with me soon. Well 5 minutes later no handyman but the assistant manager, who also tried to flush the toilet but to no avail. He informed me he will get the handyman to come and take a look??. 3 hours later, no handyman. Back to reception I went to be informed that the handyman would be here in 5 minutes. (Where have I heard this before?), well after another 45 minutes the alusive handyman has turned up telling me he has only just got the call. Well the toilet could not be repaired and the hotel had no more rooms, so I was turfed out into the street with only an offer of a alcoholic drink as compensation, uh hello I have to find another hotel and DRIVE there. In my opinion this problem was noticed by the cleaning staff and the room should have been taken out of service.

    « Great location »

We stayed here to be close to the Lark Lane area of Liverpool for a birthday night out in August. The hotel was absolutely SWELTERING in the heat which is the only downside. The room was comfortable, large, well placed and the staff were helpful. I would say it is slightly overpriced for the quality of the hotel.

    « Fawlty Towers »

Booked a Sunday night August Bank Holiday for the Liverpool Music festival through Booking.com....at £44 b&b I thought it was a great bargain, however I was really disspointed, Booking.com stated in the email that check in was from 2pm, we arrived approximately 2:30 and the room wasn't ready, we were informed that the check in time had been changed to 3pm... This would've been nice to know beforehand... We left out bags in the car and headed off to the festival. On return later on, once in the room I went to draw the curtains and one..very heavy one fell off... I tried to call reception and the phone in our room was disconnected! I got the lif to reception and informed the receptionist about the curtain, she informed me that someone would come and have a look... 10 minutes passed... I went back up to reception , no one there, I had to wait 5 minutes before anyone appeared! I told her that no one had been to our room...again she said she'd "get on to it" a couple of minutes after I returned to our room a man came...he was very nice and jolly and offered us a free drink once he'd struggled with the curtain, my husband had the drink.. I declined. Got up the next morning, opened the curtains, curtain dropped on the floor!!!! Didn't have the breakfast.. We just wanted to go home. Upstairs the hotel was very busy with a wedding... We felt like servants downstairs ... I know this was a cheap deal but Fawlty Towers has more class
