Best Western Lichfield City Centre The George Hotel

We were staying here for our wedding night, and we ended up turning up to the George Hotel with most of party shortly after our lunch elsewhere, and the staff were so accommodating and helpful. They even rushed to get us jugs of water for our wedding flowers and offered us a private meeting room, so we really appreciated this level of service. The restaurant staff were also very kind in giving us a slice of cheesecake with beautiful writing congratulating us on our wedding, and they were so attentive and friendly. We would most definitely recommend the George hotel, Lichfield!

The George managed to fit us in for a late Easter Sunday lunch (1445) with only 24 hours notice. We were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our table quickly. The cold buffet starter was very enjoyable with a good choice of meats, fish and pasta. We were looking forward to sampling the much praised Yorkshire Pudding but all on show were overcooked and the texture of a burnt biscuit. The meats on offer were a very tiny piece of overcooked beef, plus turkey crown or ham which were both tasteless. The vegetable selection was better although the cauliflower cheese was undercooked. We realise that starting late can result in variable quality food at the very best hotels but even an untrained chef should know when food is inedible. Suggest visit your sister hotel, Moor Hall in Sutton Coldfield where we have eaten many times. Our thanks to all of the staff who were friendly and efficient.

We celebrated my mother in law's 92nd birthday at the George recently. We booked a private room and ordered the ploughmans buffet. The room was set out nicely and there was plenty of room for our 20 guests. The food was really very good and varied as in our party we had vegans, vegetarians and some with allergies. All were catered for. We were extremely well looked after. My thanks to all who were involved in making it such a lovely occasion and especially to Carol, Shona and Leah who went above and beyond to look after us.

I stay at this hotel frequently on business as it is not far from our office. Being in a central location it provides the option of going out for dinner if you do not want to use the restaurant which O find to have a varied menu with staff willing to change items to suit your palette.

Lovely friendly staff. Good selection at breakfast. On arrival room was clean. We stayed for 3 nights. The room or the bathroom were not touched in that time. Could have done with some toilet cleaner if it was a DIY job. Also be aware if staying at the weekend there is a very noisy nightclub opposite that stays open until 3am. Make sure you get a room at the rear of the hotel.

We went for Sunday lunch as family of 6, food was great, service was ok, but they tried to massively overcharge my elderly father for courses that we didn't have, so glad I checked the bill (he would have just paid it) It was all sorted out, but made me worry as lots of older people eat there!

Designated a “Superior Room” it was small - average dimensions 15' x 11'; tired decor, rubbish furniture- def not “superior”; the windows were sealed shut (years of paint) but NO alternative ventilation was provided - so the room became hot and stuffy; no fire alarm procedures within the room, and none giving clear instructions nearby - concerning; price outrageous £175/night. Good points - comfortable bed and good bathroom.

The fact that the hotel said it was dog friendly and we booked a dog friendly room only to have the room downgraded to to a tiny one on arrival. Very stuffy and couldn't open a window no air con . Charges for tiny dogs 3kg was £25 . Per night which is ridiculous.

We made an impromptu visit to the George hotel and had a really lovely experience at the George. We came to reception with a last minute request and Callum out of his way to help us and went above and beyond - an absolute life saver! Thank you so much.

My husband and I stayed at The George for a couple of nights recently. Check in was friendly and efficient. We were allocated our preferred room, 72, and as promised a bottle of cava was chilling on ice in our room as a kind gesture due to a hiccup during our last stay. The hotel is very conveniently located for all that Lichfield has to offer. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Breakfast was of a high standard, buffet style, full English available along with cereals, fruit, yogurt and pastries. Toast was offered along with tea and coffee, all very tasty and nicely cooked. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and shall return again in November as we have tickets for. a show at The Garrick Theatre. Thanks to everybody at The George.

Professional polite staff, good old fashioned values. Great location, warm and welcoming. Great value in bar. Breakfast good, hot and tasty. Rooms comfortable and clean. Lovely decor. Definitely would go back

A warm welcome received from Shona before being shown to our table in a privateish area of the dining room. Shona attended at all our needs in a friendly, professional, engaging manner. The tea itself was beautiful. 4 types of sandwiches, 2 scones each with lashings of clotted cream and jam, 4 different types of cakes. Unlimited hot tea all served in vintage china. A fab afternoon - thank you.

What a absolute terrible experience. I booked a table for 4pm for myself, partner and our friends. We arrived at 4pm to be told u hadn't booked a table. When I said yes I have I was again told no you haven't. The rude person then said boss do you know anything about a booking. To which he said no. By this point I was embarrassed and felt very unwelcome. As I am not in the habit of lying I knew I had a reservation. I was asked to come to reception with the restaurant manger. I felt as if I was being marched to the headteachers office. The lady on reception confirmed my reservation. But then it was still too much trouble to sort me a table. The first person we spoke to then said well all the staff have gone at 4pm we hardly have any food left as chef only cooks for the bookings! Food is advertised online till 5pm I wouldn't like to wander in off the street to trouble them for some food. We left as we felt the whole situation was handled so badly. I complained at reception and the response I got was thank you!! Appalling customer service which is an absolute shame as I had recommended the food to my friends.

My husband and myself attended the Great Gatsby Murder Mystery evening at the George Hotel last night a birthday treat for my husband. While we enjoyed the evening very much and got along well with the other occupants of our table we were very disappointed with the meal, from choice of the menu, 1 option and a vegetarian choice to the amount of food we had, We arrived early so sat in the bar where other people were dining looking at the food being brought out and having attended other events at George I thought we were in for a real treat, What a disappointment. the Roasted vine tomato and basil soup was nice but very, very spicy and not much of it, Braised beef bourginoine (not really a meal we would of chosen) was just a small bowl of chunks of braising steak with gravy and a vast amount of onions so if you can't eat onions half your dinners gone ( my husband had 18 onions the lady seated next to me had 24) 3 sliced rounds of carrot and 2 of sewede and more red onion, and the desert Chocolate millionaires tart was nice once you cut through the very tough pastry having to use a knife. To add insult to injury the lady on the next table was handed a plate of Hunters chicken and chips! how this came about ?? Hence to say we were still hungry and on the way home we actually copperplated going to Mc Donald's!!! A nice and enjoyable evening spoilt by the None Choice and the amount of food, I think The George needs to re-think the event evening food. I will defiantly look closer at the menu and ask what other options are available if we attend another event.

Awful experience staff too young girl behind bar complained of period pains all night…. Room too small and finally £100 parking fine for private parking area??? Good lactation for a wedding but wouldn't put myself out again premier Inn next visit IF I EVER DO!!

A lovely well organised 60th birthday celebration for me in the Garrick suite. Food was excellent, staff were attentive and helpful and polite. Manager of the function was great, nothing too much trouble. Retired to the bar later with everyone and had a great night there. Room was excellent, breakfast was excellent. Well done The George

We stayed here for two nights on a bed and breakfast option and because the food was so good we then ate in the restaurant on one of the evenings. We upgraded to a superior room which included a fridge and was more spacious. However we could not get the room heater to work but when we informed reception they quickly supplied an electric heater which did the job really well. Unfortunately we overlooked the main shopping street and on our second night (i.e. Friday) there was a lot of loud noises coming from either a local bar or a night club (until the early hours) so we didn't get much sleep. In fact just below our window was stationed a Police Van and a couple of constables. The hotel is well maintained and smartly decorated, the staff are all really friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast area quite spacious. The breakfast was really good with lots of food options and table service was prompt. They have a free car park at the rear you just need to give reception your car registration No. However be warned, the satnav takes you in the wrong way in to access the car park and wants you to drive down the pedestrianised shopping street (which is blocked off). We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Enjoyed our one night stay I thisocely hotel in Lichfield. Comfortable room with lovely soft bed and pillows. Complimentary cofffee and tea available and lots of toiletries. Breakfast very good and plenty to choose from. Friendly staff. Would stay again.

This hotel was perfectly placed to be great for most of the family. Parking was just around the back and the shops are right on the doorstep. The staff were friendly and helpful to my older Aunt when she misplaced her room key. Big, clean room, comfortable and really good value for money. One of the easier family trips to work out so well.

We liked the look of the George Hotel and booked an afternoon tea to celebrate my wifes birthday. The part of the hotel where afternoon tea is taken is specially setup and decorated, it is very nicely presented. The afternoon tea itself was very nice, I am a vegetarian and this was nicely catered for, the sandwiches were fresh and tasty, the scones were nice (and two each) and the cakes good too. The service was great and we would like to specially mention Roger, who was excellent, making sure that we had a nice greeting and had everything that we wanted. It felt that a real effort was made to make my wifes birthday visit special. Highly recommend, we will tell others and visit again soon.

I was a bit late booking my trip so I had to opt for a single room. Though small the room had all I needed on this occasion. The breakfast service in the Darwin restaurant was very enjoyable. I paid £8 per day to park the car there which was the same as in the main car park behind. Overall: a fairly decent hotel which is clean and well run.

Elvis tribute night with meal.fantastic night.lovely 3 course meal with tea/ coffee.bar also although thought drinks quite expensive.Kevin Paul as elvis was brill.so entertaining.sang numerous elvis songs.lovely voice.very enjoyable night.wpuld go again.also love to see elvis tribute again.

prepaid then charged twice more on check in, Staff not returning call when promised and I'm still chasing the overcharge of £251.38 which should not have been taken in the first place. the staff at reception obviously not trained adequately. check your card statement carefully.

Really lovely afternoon tea ! Nicely served and absolutely delicious food! Great value and highly recommended. Good sandwiches and cakes and especially the scones! Very nice with a glass of Prosecco too! Made a family meet up a bit more special.

The staff at the George are excellent you can tell they enjoy their job roles very attentive and friendly. The room we were allocated 62 was OK however I would also say in need of a redec as the bathroom is looking a tad tired. We ate out during our stay so only enjoyed the breakfast offered which was excellent value

Request a room at the back of the hotel. I was in room 48 at the side . The carpark is small first come first served there were 2 wedding functions on so had to wait for a space. There is a pay and display carpark adjacent to the hotel. When you do get parked remember to register your car or its £100 penalty. The hotel is on a busy street which has a nightclub the walkabout and a couple of pubs, it can get lively. Breakfast was good with typical Midlands food Black pudding and such like. Rooms are a bit dated but it suited me for my 2 nights. My only criticism was the shower in the bath which might have been a problem with someone who had mobility problems. The shower itself was next to usless it had no real water power .

Horrible hotel, sorry. Old, desperately needs a refurb. Bedroom was dated and too hot. Windows don't open very far. Staff were a bit slow. We stayed as we attended a wedding in the area and the front of house staff at one point tried to tell the brides they didn't have a room. We left at 8am the next morning and didn't even go for breakfast - we just wanted to get out of there.

The George is very well located in the City Centre but did not really suffer the noise issues you sometimes get, room was on the small side but clean and well appointed, no opening window in our room but a fan was provided. Parking was available on-site too. Hotel has lots of old coaching inn character, much nicer than the soulless chain hotels can offer.

The staff were really friendly……., hotel is in a great location………, the rooms were very nice and were immaculately clean. Lichfield is also very nice, lovely parks etc… Overall an excellent hotel!!!!! We would definitely stay here again!!!!!!!!!

No air-conditioning no ventilation windows would not open The lift is only for certain rooms They do have a fan in the room, but does not get rid of the heat. I decided on this Hotel because it clearly stated air-conditioned. The room was boiling hot.

Small room was adequate for one night. Clean and comfortable bed. No air con even though installed in room. One major bad thing for us was our room overlooked the courtyard and the kitchen extractor fans. These fans go off at 9pm but back on at 5 in the morning. Also noisy people drinking outside until late. Had to have window open ss the room was so small and hot. We ate in the bar in the evening - not the best - chicken Kiev over cooked and very dry. Buffet breakfast was good with table service for beverages. If I stayed here again I would want a better, quiet room.

The George hotel is part of the Best Western group, our second stay, the first being several years ago. It's an Old coaching hotel. It is still a very comfortable place to stay, with excellent dining, pleasant and helpful staff. The only drawback was for us was the lengthy walk to our room which was first floor rear, with a view of the Cathedrals splendid steeple which was at this visit decorated in scaffolding. Undergoing major refurbishment. We are both restricted with our walking abillities, on the plus side it has a lift. The bedroom was large well decorated, with a good clean bathroom with walk in shower. Only small complain was the noise from a visiting wedding party, located on the same floor.

So disappointed this was a Birthday treat and a days shopping and lunch in Lichfield a city we are not that familiar with, we choose what we thought would be a lovely place for lunch, not able to pay by card so we had to go out and get some cash before we started, we ordered the sharing ploughmans. The scotch egg turned out to be very dry picnic bites, how cheap is that, no sausage roll available, the ham was thin prepackaged cheap ham and a very small amount, one slice between two of us, no bread really !! just melba toast which was soggy in the middle, very poor pate slapped on top of the ham, pickles was a joke one pickled onion cut into four and some tomato relish, a matchbox size portion of cheddar but then two other cheeses not needed just a lovely piece of creamy cheddar would do. Four small green very tired leaves at least that was two each! We had a portion of chips ok but no doubt frozen chips. This cost £20.00 which for a lovely ploughmans is ok I could have served this dish for £5.00 for four not two. We felt embarrassed to complain on the day as it was my birthday. Sorry George but we will not be recommending you.

Very disappointed- my friend and I have been going here for a few years 2/3 times a year in fact coffee then lunch - always been lovely food but today very busy - staff are lovely - sandwich ordered humours and peppers that soggy ate one half with a knife and fork - yuk then took the other half back had a refund - should never have been sent out like that bread was soggy - my friends sandwich wasn't great either - we shall find somewhere else to go - there was another reason we shall not frequent which I made the waiter aware of and upon reading this it will ring a bell

What a wonderful stop over we had here, the booking in procedure was so easy, doing it on line, card given over, no messing. Room was very good, the tea/coffee facilities were good as well. The showe was brilliant, although couldn't work out how to use the big headed shower head. Shower gel, hair shampoo, soap and lovely fluffy towels. Breakfast this morning was so good, really enjoyed our overnight there.

I would not set foot in this hotel again the was a back to the future moment 1950. There no food on offer due to a wedding every body was walking out. The toilet was broken and would not flush properly and the tiles well if you have a maintenence man I would sack him. The place was like a greenhouse there was a fan in the room which was rubbish and no windows open. I stayed in room 62 it was like a swear box. Mr S Scott

This Hotel is located in a historic building, in about the most central location of the City. From the moment I pulled into the Hotel's dedicated Car Park. and followed the well-signposted route through the Courtyard to Reception, I was impressed by the wealth of outdoor sheltered tables and seating. Checking in was conducted with efficiency and speed by a very friendly female manager. Our room was on the first floor and had a lovely view through a corner window to the pedestrianised street below. The generous window and ceiling heights lent the room an air of grandeur. We then relaxed and freshened up before embarking on a walk around the nearby Beacon Park, Cathedral Close and beautiful Minster Pool, later on we visited the Hotel Bar where the attendant was very helpful and knowledgeable. A comfortable night's sleep followed and then my son and I headed down to the Breakfast room. Where the tables were spaced out nicely, giving each group of Diners privacy. On choosing a table we were immediately brought an ample supply of fresh toast in a basket and we asked for and promptly received a pot of Coffee and glass of Orange Juice. The buffet self service Breakfast counter contained all the beautifully cooked elements one could desire for the composition of a hearty breakfast, with a special mention for the Mushrooms, which were juicy and full of flavour and the fried eggs which were arranged on trays to perfection both in a pleasing aesthetic manner and full of rich golden flavour. Also a good choice of cereals, fruit, pasties and other continental breakfast options was available. Check out was conducted stress free and promptly. With our only regret being that we hadn't booked for a longer stay!

Lovely hotel, friendly staff and free parking at the rear. Great location too. We stayed for a night out but looks a great venue for weddings and meetings. They often have tribute acts with good and accommodation / great deal, book early

I'll start by saying that, on first seeing our room, we were impressed by the standard of decoration and the cleanliness. The bathroom had been decorated to a high standard once but was looking a little shabby in places. At the price they were charging (£133......!), we were expecting a walk in shower. As it was, the shower was in the bath making it impossible for my wife to use it. We weren't too bothered by this, though, as we were only staying for the one night. The bar/restaurant was very pleasant and they were serving a couple of excellent Real Ales. We didn't eat there as the menu was rather limited. The problem arose when we decided to go to bed. Both of our beds were showing extreme signs of wear with massive dips in the mattresses (They should have been replaced years ago...!). I contacted reception but they said there was nothing they could do as they were full and didn't have any spare mattresses. The manager did come to our room and turn my wife's mattress but, although the other side was a little better, it wasn't good enough to ensure a good night's sleep. As a result, we both suffered an extremely uncomfortable night. Breakfast the next morning was absolutely perfect. When we left I suggested that perhaps we should be offered a refund in view of our ruined night's sleep. The receptionist said she would speak to the manager but we heard no more about it. The really annoying thing about this whole incident is that we chose the hotel (and paid through the nose..!) because it was part of the Best Western chain and they do have a reputation for quality. We have stayed in Best Western hotels in America found every single one to be far superior to the George.

Mum and I have just returned from a lovely stay at the George Hotel where we had a lovely weekend. The hotel is perfectly situated, although it is a shame that the Walkabout pub is so close. All the employees at the hotel are lovely and I would like to mention Alessie, Rachel, Amy, Adem, Carol and Charlie in particular for ensuring our stay was a brilliant one

Once again this wonderfull Hotel Restaurant came up superb...went for a Sunday Carvery after our second visit in 5 weeks... special Mention for our fantastic waitress Shona who is very professional and polite also very efficient in her job..top marks to the George Hotel

We booked a superior room which although clean was dated and needed some updating. It was extremely stuffy, fans provided but they made little difference to the temperature in the room. The toilet didn't flush every time it was used and when reported we were told it was just slow to fill therefore we had to use the hotel public toilets on occasions. On the plus side the restaurant and bar were lovely, staff very helpful and the location was good as is in the city centre so noise was expected when we booked. Just needs some updating in the corridors and rooms but we had a lovely stay and despite the stuffy room would stay again.

This is a historic building and our first impressions were good. Visiting as part of a large group for the weekend, I knew I would be staying in the hotel quite a lot due to my husband rehearsing a lot of the time. The communal areas are lovely, the bar area is good and well stocked and we found the restaurant enjoyable when we ate there on the first night. The location is central so good for a base. The room was cleaned daily and plenty of tea/coffee provided for the room. The staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately that is where the good ends. The room we had (in the ‘quiet' part of the hotel we were told on check in) was tired and dated, the beds not particularly comfortable and only one window opened (only a small amount). We were provided with a fan but the air con unit didn't work. We weren't told at check in that there was a wedding taking place on the Saturday which took over the whole bar area and closed the restaurant, and was also extremely noisy, mainly from the thumping music at night. It would have been helpful to mention this to us as I would have changed my plans for the Saturday, I was also unable to use the restaurant as I had planned and couldn't sit in the bar lounge area as it was packed with wedding guests. I realise hotels take wedding bookings but you need to make other guests aware when they arrive that they will be unable to use some of the facilities, friends of ours who were staying said the noise from the evening wedding party was unbearable in their rooms. Walkabout bar is opposite the front of the hotel, which is where our ‘quiet' room was located. The music on the Friday and Saturday went on until 3am, not the fault of the hotel I realise but don't tell us we are in a quiet room when it is directly opposite a nightclub! We couldn't close the window as the stuffiness of the room would have been unbearable so we got very little sleep on the Friday and Saturday. All in all this hotel just isn't living up to it's potential. It is a historic building but there isn't very much information on that, in fact we only found out about it while sitting outside the front of the hotel and listening to a passing tour group. They could put together some information on the hotel's history for a display in the reception area which would be much more interesting. Also maybe some historic pictures in the rooms rather than generic pictures of flowers! The hotel served it's purpose of a base for us for the weekend but is overpriced for what is on offer here, they have concentrated on making the bar/restaurant areas really smart but have unfortunately neglected the rooms which are less ‘faded elegance' and more ‘old fashioned and tatty'.

I booked this hotel through a 3rd party booking site. I had requested a wheelchair-accessible double room and received an email confirming that “my request had been accepted by the hotel”. When I arrived I was sent to a room which involved negotiating my way on a mobility scooter with a wheeled suitcase through narrow corridors and several fire doors. Then I came to a corridor with two steps across it so I never actually made it to the assigned room. When I eventually managed to turn around and get back to reception I was told that the booking agency hadn't specified that I needed wheelchair access. This may well be the case but doesn't explain how the receptionist thought I was going to fly over stairs to reach my room. The manager did his best to resolve the problem but the only room he had available which didn't involve crossing steps to get to it was a small single. Unfortunately, as it was not fitted out as an accessible room, I was unable to use the shower. I was offered a slightly larger single room for my second (and last) night but I still wouldn't have been able to use the shower so I decided to stay where I was. Both rooms I saw were clean and well presented but the furniture, flooring etc were all very shabby. Apart from the dim receptionist on arrival everyone did their best to be helpful but this wasn't a comfortable stay.

Central location but bit of a warren getting to our room. Booked a standard double direct, ‘standard' is deceptive as it was more like a small double bed. The room was warm and the window open when we arrived. We left this open - huge mistake could hear music playing until the early hours and lots of noise from people and bins below. Breakfast was fine but busy and felt very cramped where we were seated. For what we paid it think we will stay elsewhere next time.

Had a very enjoyable stay. Location excellent value for money very good. All staff friendly and helpful. Had a very nice room with all amenities, very clean. This is a city centre hotel so was expecting some noise but didn't hear anything as our room was to the rear

Location is good. That's really the only positive there is. Parking is v limited, hotel was dirty throughout. Sticky banisters, hand rails and table tops. Our room was at the front - directly opposite the Walkabout Bar - we'd booked a family room. We were kept awake until gone 3am by the noise as the outer windows didn't close (just the inside ones). The hotel staff were all v inexperienced and unable to help. Overall the hotel could do with a refresh and some investment in staff training.

Friendly staff, but the quality of the rooms and food is lacking. Stayed here for one night, it was stifling hot in the hotel. The room was decorated in the 80s, dark and needed a better clean. Air con was so loud that we couldn't have it on. Our room was opposite a night club with an outside balcony and the music went on until 3am so we had little sleep. The breakfast had lots of options but the sausage and bacon I tried I couldn't eat as it tasted so cheap. Overall not great other than the staff who were always very helpful and friendly.

First Visit The George Hotel Lichfield. Had a very pleasant weekend stay. The Hotel was spotless, and the staff helpful and friendly. Perfectly located in the heart of Lichfield with parking to the rear. Rooms comfortable and bed comfy. The tap on the bath was amazing filling a nice bubble bath in only a few minutes. Breakfast tasty.

I talked a friend into lunching here with me, on this occasion I was sorry to have done so. My order appeared to have been overlooked, when I enquired advising that other guests ordering way after me had actually finished their lunch, lunch eventually arrived one hour after it had been ordered . My friend had a club sandwich and soup, the soup was good, the sandwich was extremely soggy., most being left on the plate. The member of staff who dealt with us throughout was not that bothered he did offer a sort of apology when food eventually arrived. I am sorry I have to say” Must do Better” todays service would not bring me back.

6 days stay with breakfast. Very welcoming and smooth booking directly with the hotel online. No issues. Warm, very clean room and comfortable bed, tea, coffee and a biscuit each day. Very good hotel internet. ‘Lichfield City' need to upgrade their mobile and internet. Low signal when walking around the shops. Very good choice for breakfast and well organised seating and breakfast bar - Very good.

Great location, little awkward to find car park. Overall good stay. Friendly staff, good breakfast and good value for money. Room a little cold but it was winter time and the window had been left open. bathroom warm. Bed comfortable. Suited our needs well. Would stay again.

Excellent stay overall. Food excellent. Staff lovely. Room was a little tired and could have been a bit warmer but certainly nothing to moan about. The breakfast was one of the best I've had in a hotel.

The most wonderful afternoon tea. My friend and I went for her belated birthday celebration. The staff were amazing checked if we had any dietary requirements and promptly bought me separate vegetarian sandwiches. They filled our tea pot at least four times with no extra charge. When they discovered it was her birthday they presented a cake with a candle! It was fantastic value at £33 for two I can't recommend it highly enough

Staying at The Cathedral Hotel, we came to Darwin''s@The George for dinner. Exceeded our expectations greatly. Super-friendly staff, quiet and peacefully dining area, cleanand pleasant all-round. But the food was spectacular. We both had the sea bass, which is a firm favourite. But it was almost outdone by the exquisite roasted seasonal veg, the superbly tasty mash, and the perfect Hollandaise sauce. Clearly a kitchen staff who *really* know their craft. And it was lovely to overhear the waitress immediately feedback to the chefs how much we had enjoyed their food. Could not praise more highly. Go, eat, enjoy, and know that they will appreciate your custom.

The hotel has a great location in the Centre of the city. We had a great stay meeting up with friends. There was a bit of a problem with the booking but this was quickly sorted out and we were well looked after. It is a traditional hotel in historic buildings but the rooms are a good standard. The breakfast was great happy to recommend.

Well run hotel in city centre perfect for sightseeing. Friendly and efficient service. Easy parking at rear. Nice clean room with decent sized bathroom. Internet was good. Decent choice for breakfast.

Lovely old coaching Inn in the heart Lichfield city. Rooms are comfortable, if a little tired. Staff are polite, pleasant and always have a smile. The lift is essential for my elderly mother. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, but the quality and range was outstanding. We had a great four-night stay over Christmas and will come back for a third visit next year!

Lovely historical hotel in the heart of Lichfield. Our room was excellent but unfortunately there was a problem with the bathroom. We were immediately offered another room. The manager on duty tried to help is as much as possible. Breakfast was also very good - thank you all at The George x

We're just back after two nights at this hotel. You could not find a better placed , central hotel, we walked everywhere even though it was bitterly cold. Friendly check in and clean, nice bedroom. Breakfast was great and the evening meal was good too, excellent service. Would stay again, good value.

A delightful Georgian hotel set in the centre of a lovely city. The restaurant deserves a special note as both dinner and breakfast were superb. The staff as always were polite and efficient. Ample safe parking at the rear of the hotel

normally we only stay for a few days at this hotel but this time we needed a longer break and we stayed for a week. the hotel is very comfortable,clean and pleasant. staff are well trained and welcoming.

This hotel is set in the centre of Lichfield. The building itself is old and tired but has many original features going back to the day when it would have been a coaching inn. Inside it is clean and tidy and the staff are very helpful. Lichfield is a typical middle England historic town with some interesting local residents- the like of which you do not find in my home town of London! There are a good number of restaurants nearby and the menu in the hotel is good too. Breakfast was buffet style but freshly cooked free range eggs were also on the menu. The car park and the Wi-fi are free but the entrance to the car park is a little tricky to find. It would have been easier back in the day with your horse and the cobbled arched entrance is still there - but only for pedestrians now. Excellent value for money

Just stayed here one night on a cycle tour. Lovely receptionist checked us in and then another showed us where our bikes could be stored safely. The hotel is in a nice old building (from 1700s) and very conveniently located for all the sights so we could walk to them all. We enjoyed a good evening meal in their Darwin Restaurant. The first courses were really excellent and freshly cooked (meat balls & liver) but the bread and butter pudding was only so-so and gave the impression they'd been around for a while. The room was small and a bit dark but perfectly adequate and very clean. So why the 'but'? Our room was on the street side and any loud groups of people passing could be heard very clearly. Fortunately it was a Monday and we weren't much bothered and not at all after 10pm, but I suggest a room at the back would be better. Then after the great dinner the breakfast was a let-down. Nearly all tinned fruit, not fresh and the scrambled egg was as hard as rubber. Would probably stay again but they could do better.

Stayed for 2 nights. Room and public areas spotlessly clean. Generous tea/coffee making tray in room replenished daily. Hot water, fresh towels and very comfy bed. All staff on reception, in restaurant and housekeeping very friendly. Great buffet breakfast. Had 2 excellent evening meals in restaurant - steak highly recommended! A real bonus is the free hotel parking and with all the sights of Lichfield within walking distance meant we didn't have to move the car until our departure. We didn't experience any noise at night although I suspect this could be a problem at the front in summer if you wanted windows open. All round excellent value.

It is very difficult to find anything positive to say about my stay: - Although not rude, the receptionist was not in the slightest bit friendly or welcoming, either when I arrived or when I left - I had to ask about registering my car being in the car park to avoid a penalty charge as this information was not volunteered - There was no lift and numerous stairs to gain access to the second floor where my room was located, there was no offer to help with my suitcase - My room had a dripping tap, torn curtains, no handset to operate the aircon, a broken tile in the bathroom, a cool/tepid shower and intermittently flickering lights although the bed was reasonably comfortable

Hotel was nice & clean very helpful, polite staff, very good Breakfast , One thing wrong is The noise over night not all night but it's in the Main Street of Lichfield ! Sill very nice stay thank you .

We had a two night weekend stay at The George in a superior double room. The hotel is perfectly located in Lichfield - it is absolutely central and has convenient car parking immediately behind the hotel. The hotel has a strong team of staff across the board. The reception let us know when a space in their car park became available, which was good service, so we could move our car. The staff in the restaurant were professional and helpful in their service. too. At dinner, they arranged a special dish for me, off the menu, to manage a food allergy. The food at dinner, and at breakfast, was very good. Fresh and good quality ingredients, well prepared and served. Our room was spacious and really comfortable. We had ample storage space and a nice seating area. We also had air conditioning in the room. The furnishings and decor were traditional in style, and they were in good quality and condition. The hotel's lounge and bar area was comfortable and attractive too.

Came to Lichfield to see friends and enjoy the Prom. We really enjoyed this hotel. Our room was large and a beautiful bathroom. The bed was so wonderful and the linen is top quality. They have a fabulous courtyard to meet friends and a glass of wine. The weather was great so we used the courtyard quite a bit. The location is perfect to walk everywhere. And parking for our friends. The staff at the George are so good at their jobs. They are kind, friendly, and just plain old great people. The housekeeping staff are perfection. Again we had a wonderful stay at the George. We will be back next year and will try and get the same room at this fine hotel.

We went to see a concert at The Guildhall so decided to stay over. The George is a pleasant hotel with car parking in the centre of town. There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance also various local museums and attractions. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was quite small but had everything needed for an overnight stay. The only thing I would say is we would have preferred a bigger bed and darker curtains to block out the street lights. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, though I would have liked more fresh fruit. We did get overlooked on ordering our tea and toast before we helped ourselves to the cooked breakfast. We had to ask for it because no one came over. The teapot was quite small, I suppose we could have ordered more but at that stage we could not be bothered. The breakfast plates were not piled up by the hot food, so you had to ask for one. Also they were very small for a full English. We did have a nice stay though in all.

If your reading this definitely book this hotel They staff can't do enough for you from the time I book my room over the phone to when we arrive to day I have broken my leg so this was my gift to my husband for our 34 year anniversary and for being amazing husband looking after me the last few months We also was meeting my cousin & husband here and they are very please with they room as well This was half way from each of are homes to get some family time together We just eaten in the restaurant and my steak was amazing we even got a lovely gift off the manager Tim bottle of bubbly So that you all so much for looking after me and my husband & my cousin I will definitely be back Mr & Mrs c Hughes Room 23 lovely

Just spent 2 nights with my wife at this hotel attending a function in Lichfield , on booking I requested a quiet room away from the front of the hotel as all the noise would be coming from Bird Street which the hotel faces onto.we were given a room which overlooked an alley way which ran between Bird street and the hotel carpark.we were kept awake till 0330 in the morning with screaming women and the throwing of empty bottles into the bins that lined the alley way. I did complain to reception the next morning to be told we are a a city centre hotel so you have to accept son noise.Bull S%%t there same happens again on the Saturday night 0230. The room itself was ok except there was no not water from the shower and no water pressure. I could Wee quicker. So not a very enjoyable stay at Best Western Lichfield. I can't comment on any thing else accept breakfast was good. Will I stay there again ,no I have had better nights in the Premier Inn round the corner. V

Lovely room comfortable bed clean and tidy, didn't eat there menu not to our taste but WetherSpoons down the road. In city centre ideal for shopping had a drink in bar barman not the happiest of people. Parking behind hotel through public car park.

My friends and I had the loveliest of lunches in the lounge area of the hotel. The food was excellent with a good selection of sandwiches and light meals, I was very impressed with how generous the servings were and at very reasonable prices. I just wish the service had been smoother, less chaotic. The barman on duty Sat 24 Aug could improve customers experience by smiling. We will definitely return such good value has to be experienced again

Stayed 3 nights over August bank Holiday weekend. The hotel is well situated for the city centre with a car park that can get quite full at times. On arrival we had to wait a while before someone appeared to check us in. furthermore the welcome wasn't that warm. We were told our room was on the second floor and "there is no lift". No assisstance was offered with the luggage, thankfully my old bones had enough strength to lug our case up the stairs. Our room was fine for the price it was warmly furnished and clean if a little dated. It had all the equipment we needed though the double bed felt a bit small. Over the three days the room was cleaned well. They do have an odd offer of waiving room cleaning during your stay for 1 free drink in the bar. It made us laugh anyway. We slept well and were generally happy with our room. We didn't use the restaurant during the stay. We did use the bar and the staff were helpful and pleasant. Generally it did the job at a reasonable price.

Went here for dinner before visiting Imagine Peace Exhibition at Lichfield Cathedral August 23rd. Restaurant itself is light and airy and nicely decorated. Staff were friendly and polite and gave good service throughout the meal. I opted for the 2 course set price menu , having calves liver for main course and it was delicious being cooked just right not too much, followed by bread & butter pudding - always a winner. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will certainly revisit.

Having emailed and requested a room with a double bed, the room had twin beds. I phoned reception and spoke to Jacqui who was very helpful, she immediately upgraded me to Room 25. What a fabulous room with a 4 poster bed. Very comfortable room. well done Jacqui.

Staff were very professional, we went on a gin experience, which consisted of a overnight stay, meal in Darwin restaurant which was very good for food and service. Not forgetting our free gin and tonic. Our bedroom was large but didn't flow but this is a period property. We had a very nice short stay and would recommend this hotel, location was very central also with its own parking.

We stayed last night in The George and I had to write a review straight away because it has been the best 3* hotel I've been in for a very long time. Each member of staff is helpful, polite and extremely friendly. Parking is available and can be found if you go through the public car park behind the building then follow the signs for the hotel. Towels, shower gel, shower cap available in bathroom and a range of tea and coffee in the bedroom - if you like milky tea just ask for more milk at reception. We had breakfast included (which was a nice surprise) and believe that's the case with every room?? Beautiful and antique Hotel will definitely be staying again!!!

Thank you to all the staff who looked after us on 18th August for our wedding and reception. They went over and above to make our day really special... Perfect in every way. A special thank you to Helen and Andrew, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Brilliantly organised.

My mum got married here this weekend and the staff went above and beyond to make the day perfect. Helen, was an absolute star, nothing was too much trouble for her. Beautiful location. Would recommend to all!!

I particularly like this hotel. It is in a superb location, a five minute walk from the cathedral in one direction and less than ten minutes from the railway station in the other, in a delightful street, with a gorgeous park en route to the cathedral.The decor is very attractive, the staff are consistently charming and efficient, and I particularly like the option of kippers for breakfast.It is also remarkably cheap for such a location in an interesting city.

My wife and I tied the knot this weekend and had our reception at the George. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, both in the run up and during the day. We also had the ceremony at the hotel and everything went perfectly. The place is very clean, our suite was roomy and the bed comfortable. The shower was good too, and the buffet breakfast was very decent. The only downside is the outside noise after 1am, which is obviously no fault of The George. Many thanks to the staff that made our day run smoothly especially Helen.

First the positives: the staff at reception were friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and well furnished (if quite old-fashioned and a bit tired). There was a bath rather than just a shower, which we much appreciated. The wifi was free, and a good strong signal (though not straightforward to sign into). The hotel is centrally located and convenient for the cathedral and other attractions. Our dissatisfaction started with the location of our room, which was not accessible by lift. Up a flight of stairs, winding around various corridors, up another flight of stairs, dangerously uneven corridors. We were not offered any help in schlepping our luggage. Although our booking confirmation promised air conditioning, we were not happy to find the windows open and a printed notice to let us know that the air con unit was broken and they hoped to have an engineer come to fix it soon. The notice looked like a permanent fixture! Yes, it was a particularly warm period, so the air conditioning was sorely missed. But it was exacerbated by the incredible noise levels throughout the night - shouting and carousing at past 3 am in the alley beneath our room. This meant that if we left the windows open were kept awake by the noise, and if we shut them we were sweltering. I thought it was only fair to bring up these dissatisfactions to the reception staff before writing an unhappy review here. Although they were verbally sympathetic, and suggested using the fan, they didn't offer any proactive help until pressed, when they conferred and offered the opportunity to move to a different room with functioning air conditioning. This didn't seem practical for one last night, given the distance to the alternative room, but I did appreciate the offer. We didn't eat any meals in the hotel, so I can't comment on the food. Would we stay at the George again? Probably not.

Booked here as close proximity to national arboretum, Used Google map so on entering main street to hotel knew exact direction to rear car park : twin room 1st floor & well signed to room 37 through passages, well presented room , mini bar, ironing board & iron very handy ; clean bathroom with over head thermostatic shower: wedding occasion on so some late noise however did not affect our overall nights sleep in comfy beds: Breakfast was ok but we are not big fans of buffet meals , all staff from bar , reception & dining were very good : with its superb location for bars ,shops , restaurants & cathedral would definitely return!

We stayed in the hotel for six nights as a group of friends mainly because of the hotel was close to the cathedral. It was a bit noisy at nights especially at the weekend. All of the staff apart from one were friendly and helpful. We dined in their restaurant three times as a group too and it was just okay. Although we had no trouble with our air conditioning but some of them were not working and many guests complained and nothing was done apart telling them to use the fan in the room which didn't help and the rooms were very hot and uncomfortable.

I went here as part of a group booking. Good points. Very central, walking distance to the town and sights. Free wi fi. Free parking. The buffet breakfast was tasty. I had a single room and it was fairly comfortable. The staff at reception and the bar were quite friendly. The not so good things. At night it's like Jekyll and Hyde. The front of the hotel there are restaurants and clubs. By midnight there was shouting, drunkenness and fighting. So if like most people you like to get to bed by then you may have a sleepless night. Added to that, the hotel had booked in a wedding party the same night as our function and kicked us out of the ballroom. Also in the car park behind there was a funfair! Fortunately I had a room at the side of the hotel and I took ear plugs. Those near the front of the hotel had very little sleep. So a generous three stars from me, maybe it's more peaceful during the week days.

We chose this hotel through the Buy a Gift voucher, which our daughter bought us for Christmas and we stayed mid-week. Its a lovely 18th century hotel, full of history, so a must for a history buff like me! It is in the town, making it easy to go round the shops. The cathedral, Erasmus Darwin's house and Samuel Johnson's house and museum are literally round the corner. Plenty to do for a couple of days. Prior to arriving I emailed the hotel to find out if they had disabled parking...yes they had and they even reserved me a space! So many thanks to BETH and HOLLY for arranging this. We could park there from morning, although couldn't check in until 3pm. We arrived at 11.00am and registering the car was easy. We then had a coffee and tea at the bar, which was very reasonably priced. I noticed they have lots of gins and these, too, were reasonable priced although we didn't indulge! After a walk around the town we checked in at 3pm with Holly, who was very welcoming and told us where our room was. There are a lot of corridors as I believe it was originally 2 buildings, but there is a lift and signs so no need to get lost! We had room 39 on the corner, overlooking the oldest pub in England, the Kings Head. We were impressed with the room, very clean and spacious, lovely drapes, sash windows with secondary double glazing (probably because it is a listed building), lovely twin linked beds giving us a massive bed, and a great bathroom with a shower over the bath. Some people on this site have complained that there is no air conditioning but my view is that we live in the UK, so how many times in a normal year do we really need this? Anyway the hotel do supply a fan which can be found in the wardrobe along with a fridge with mini bar and still room to put your own drinks, an ironing board and an iron. Tea and coffee, milk and sugar, along with a kettle are provided. They also have free wifi, which is more than you get in Travelodges, so what more do you need? We didn't eat in Darwin's Restaurant but chose to go into town to eat at The Acorn Inn aka Wetherspoons (see separate review). Breakfast was included in our package. JEAN brought us tea, coffee and juice and we helped ourselves to the tremendous buffet on offer...bacon, sausages, eggs (all ways), black pudding, fresh tomatoes, tinned plum tomatoes, etc. You can buy the breakfast for a mere £7.50 if not included in your package/tariff but we can certainly recommend it! Checkout was smooth and although it was 11.00am we were allowed to park our car until 4pm. We used this time to go round Johnson's and Darwin's houses. To finish a word of praise for MARK, one of the managers, who took a photograph of us at the top of the stairs and gave us maps of the area. Very helpful, so thank you Mark. But thanks to all the staff who made our visit a very pleasant one. Would we return here again? YES YES YES.

Aloof staff, consistently lousy check in experience. Parking is a pain and limited any day some local tea gathering occurs. Navigating the fire door laden hallways, full of carpet covered trip hazards, gets old after the first day. It's on the main drag so expect a lot of late night noise from the bar crowd all weekend long. There are two nice servers in the restaurant that are first rate. But otherwise not my first choice.

The quality of food and service in the restaurant is 10/10. Amazing tasty full plates of food for reasonable prices. The choice of ingredients perfectly compliment each other to make wholesome meals. The drinks are not over priced and the choice is very broad. We even checked or the children's menu to take our daughter in the future and the range of food for the kiddies and the options to choose smaller plates off the main menu is a delight!

My daughter got married here on Saturday and from guests arriving on the Friday to leaving on the Sunday the staff , the venue and all things associated with the wedding were pure class. Lichfield is a lovely City anyway and the hotel is right in the centre . There is dedicated free parking for guests . The rooms are comfortable , clean and although the numbers were a little confusing it was fine once you got your bearings . The food was of the best quality whether it was breakfast ,dinner or the actual wedding breakfast itself. All the staff were friendly with a special shout out to assistant manager Alan who led the wedding superbly well, Helen who served pre wedding drinks and Holly who was so helpful on reception.All in all we could not have asked for a better service from a superbly run hotel. Well done guys it made a very special day perfect

The plus points. Great location/hearty well cooked English Buffet breakfast. The not so good .Arrived at 1pm quite aware that check in time was at 3pm to ask if the room would be ready any earlier. Was told this was doubtful so please come back later. In view of this less than helpful attitude, decided to eat elsewhere and tried again at 2.30. Receptionist said she would ring housekeeping which she did and said no one was answering? Very helpful so went for another walk. Gained access to our room/sauna (room 42) at 3pm. Even with the sash window wide open the room was unbearably hot so closed the window and tried aircon at coolest temperature which was fine if you stood in front of it but had no effect on the rest of the room. Finally resorted to a fan we found in the wardrobe which partially solved the problem. The even worst!! Was told by reception that our two night deal with dinner included on one night entitled us to £14.50 each towards our meal which didn`t seem very generous and that as requested our table had been booked for 7 that evening. We had made no such request!! On arriving that evening in the dining room (at a time of our choosing) a very pleasant young waitress explained that we were entitled to £27 each toward our evening meal. This would have just about afforded us a 3 course meal. I explained that this conflicted with the information given by reception and asked her to verify her facts. She said she would check with "management" and returned to tell us this was indeed the case. Having ordered our first 2 courses (about £20 each) she returned to tell us a yet again different story.We were, according to latest edicts which seemed to by now be changing at ever more frequent intervals entitled to a starter and main meal only. Before being told that we were entitled to nothing more than a cold cup of soup, we ate our meal, asked for the bill ( around £20 largely for drinks ) and settled up in cash. Apart from sleeping in our sauna we then gave the place a wide berth until the morning of our check-out when we were told we owed £11 as we had gone over our allowance at meal time on the dreaded dinner night. I explained it was nearer £20 and we had settled in cash to the nice young waitress along with a (under the circumstances) generous tip. She summoned management who unable to produce any paper work to back up this mysterious £11 agreed to waiver it. Why no paper work? He explained that there were so many offers on that it was difficult to keep track but it is surely not too much to expect that the offer signed up for is matched to the appropriate client. Needless to say we shall not return.

Best Western Hotels are very hit and miss, this is a hit. The location was great, the staff were very good and the room did its job. The building is lovely and if you don't want to eat and drink in the hotel there are masses of other places nearby and Lichfield has some of the best pubs within 5 minutes walk. Breakfast was fairly standard.the wifi worked well and I will return, which not something I often would do to other Best Western's.

Overall the hotel is good but with the summer heat as it has been I booked a room at the George as it had air con. After returning from an evening meal I noted that the air con even though it was set to its coolest temp was pumping out warm air. Not a good start. Then at 4.19am a fan in an extractor duct just outside my room started knocking loudly around every second. Needless to say this woke me up and I checked out at 5.30am. Upon check out I was informed that I was lucky as at the front of the hotel an alarm could be heard that had been going off since 1am. Next time I will make sue I bring my ear plugs!!

Had our evening wedding reception here and the majority of the staff were extremely helpful. Originally checked out the venue with Tim who was helpful and friendly and made us feel special and welcome. We then dealt with Abbie once we had booked and she was also very helpful; on a couple of occasions, we popped in with no notice to check tables in the room etc and it was never an issue. On the day, Alan was the main man and we and our party thought he was brilliant. Really nice man and so helpful and friendly. Just one thing marred the day for us hence why this is not a five star review: one woman who was serving the hot food was miserable and rude ; we complained at the time. Seeing as we were paying for all the food, she only let my husband have one piece of chicken and she scowled and said he could only have one. He replied to say he'd paid for it and she still refused even when he said he'd have mine as I'm a vegetarian. She still refused and my husband got angry with her attitude being our wedding day. Very unprofessional and would suggest this woman does NOT work weddings or has some decorum and decency in future. Otherwise it was a perfect day.

Best western member for years have nearly stayed in them all, this one ticks all my travel needs but I don't like to remind staff to take my membership number and also having to request my points or complimentary drink.also noted that the price keeps jumping up. The hotel as ample parking to the rear and is close to all shops and restaurant

My wife stayed here on a Friday night. The staff are great, the hotel clean and tidy. The rooms are decent, but maybe a little tired. The bar has dozens of gins, so if that's your tipple, this is your hotel.

Stayed at the George hotel for 2 nights to attend a wedding and have to compliment and praise all of the staff for their professionalism and pleasantness. Nothing was too much trouble and we were treated like royalty. The rooms are comfortable and clean, it has a great central location and the food is brilliant. Also, try the gin bar, the selection is out of this world and the barman (Mark) knows his stuff. He talked us through the history of each brand that we tried. We would definitely stay here again. The George hotel hosted a family wedding for us two weeks ago. It was a great success all the staff were amazing throughout the day. Many thanks to Abbie and all of the team. I would absolutely recommend this venue.

I have a voucher for afternoon tea for 2 to my 2 aunt's as a gift for Christmas.They decided to pre book for last Thursday as a treat.Their review of the experience was poor.Service extremely slow even though they were the only ones there and the actually afternoon tea was described as ordinary.Our vision of afternoon tea is nicely displayed cakes and sandwiches that make you feel special.It sounds like they can't be bothered to make the occasion special.Such a shame as I purchase several of these vouchers for gifts and although the price compared to garden centres is not as much you do expect to feel it is better than a cup of tea and a scone.Ialways try to support local businesses but sorry George you are off my Christmas list

We have stayed at many best western hotels throughout the uk. We were in Lichfield for the day and my husband and I chose here to have an evening meal. Well we didn't get that far, we ordered drinks at the bar from a young man serving, we asked if there was a table for 2 in the restaurant available, he said he would check and come back to us. We sat down with our drinks, and waited. And waited, I had finished my drink, my husband's pint of ale was cloudy, normally my husband would have returned the pint to the barman, but clearly the young bar man had not left the bar to go and Check on a table for us to dine, so we left the undrinkable pint on the table and left. We are that evening at a Thai restaurant, service and food was great. Poor poor service at the Best western George hotel. Not had poor service in any other best western we have stayed at.

My Wife and I visit the Lichfield Bower , Market and Fair each year and always stay at the George Hotel. The Lunch , Evening Meal and Breakfast where all excellent. We stayed in the best bedroom which was spot on. The staff could not do enough for you. We just love this Hotel which has a lot of character and History and ideal location. The whole place is spotless and also has a lift.

This visit had been planned for weeks, as we were celebrating a family members birthday as a surprise. I have to say the staff at The George Hotel (Best Western) were exemplary, nothing was too much trouble, they were attentive, generous and very welcoming. The Sunday Buffet @ £13.75 per head at the time of writing, for a three course meal consisting of Oulderoves or Soup, The Carvery (Turkey, Beef, Pork and Gammon available on said day) and vegetables that were sumptuous plus a choice of deserts in addition to Tea and Coffee was awesome. The food was delicious, offering exquisite value, quality, lovely surroundings and a brilliant service. The birthday girl (lady) didn't want desert which meant last minute alterations at the end (without her knowing), as The George were kindly going to write a Happy Birthday message, on her chosen desert. They kindly brought out a plate with chocolates chopped up and eloquently placed on the plate, along with said message and parcelled this up for said lady to take home. I'd certainly recommend a visit and couldn't speak highly enough of the service, with the following observations. Pros: Quality Food. Exceptional Service. Friendly Staff. Value For Money. Extremely Accommodating. Option to return for more vegetarian. Large portions. Cons: Very hot in the restaurant with a lack of fresh air. If booking a table for more than 7, you're required to pay a £5 deposit per head. Although it was extremely warm, the staff member did open windows, which although didn't reduce the heat massively, was a good measure. My only other slight grumble, was the scenario that if you book a table for more than 7, you're required to pay a £5 deposit per head. This to be me didn't make sense, more than 4 I could possibly get, but 7 seemed an odd number to draw the line at and may deter other diners. We just increased our table size on the day and the gent did accommodate us (this guy really went out of his way too). Overall, I think to get exceptional service at this price, with these surroundings was excellent, so despite the two exceptions above, this is why I'd recommend The George and is why I'm giving The George 5/5.

Good Hotel in the middle of Lichfield. The downside was the long walk through a maze of corridors to the room. There was also two flights of stairs to negotiate with no lift access and the shower temperature was really difficult to set and then maintain.

My friend and I have stayed twice both times the hotel has been lovely with very friendly staff . We upgraded our room both times and had nice rooms both times ?? We had dinner in hotel once nice but not great lots of restaurants around hotel so lots of choices we love Lichfield so planning a third trip to the George.

I recently visited The George on a weekend away with my wife. As soon as we arrived the gentleman on reception talked me through registering my car in the car park in order to avoid the fine others have incurred. Although we were too early to check in, we enjoyed a drink in the bar and a walk around the lovely town. When we were able to check in it was done in a very friendly and efficient manner. Our room (41) was excellent. Spacious, comfortable and immaculate. I cannot comment on food as we did not dine or have breakfast, but the menu looked to be good and very reasonable. Throughout our stay at The George, every member of staff was friendly, courteous and efficient. I will certainly return, and actually cannot wait to do so.

Came for an afternoon tea at twelve midday! I know strange as it sounds this hotel will serve you an afternoon tea anytime during the day! So chose to have it as an alternative “lunch”! Perfect it was, reserved table, good assortment of sandwiches, scones and cakes all served with a smile and didn't have to ask for more tea...good service training here. Highly recommended but cannot comment on the accommodation, it is a very old characterful building with low ceilings, super!

Just had a very nice cream tea bought as a gift. We were asked about preferences of sandwich filling, which made a nice change from other places, tea and coffee was replenished for free and overall it was lovely. Place was beautifully furnished and in keeping with the style of building. Team members couldn't have been more helpful. Only gripe my husband had was that the scone didn't come with clotted cream!!! Didn't bother me though - well done.

Beautiful hotel, great food and Lichfield is a very interesting city. Such a same there is a nightclub opposite this lovely hotel. Be prepared for loud music, foul language and police presence until the early hours of the morning if you are staying in a room opposite!!! The back of the hotel is not affected by this.

We recently stayed 6 nights at this hotel and we are so pleased that we did. The staff are excellent and so was the hotel room and the breakfast. The room was well furnished and comfortable with nice little touches like providing a little box of chocolates and bottled water each day. Nice being in the centre of Lichfield and also being able to park your car in the hotel car park. We stayed using Tesco vouchers and a big thank you to the hotel staff for making an exception and letting us change the date of our stay following an unforeseen emergency eye operation. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We come here now and again, simpy to start the day with a coffee and enjoyable surroundings. This time, we thought we'd try the full English. Tony our waiter, was chatty, professional, and attentive. The breakfast was obviously to us, freshly cooked with quality, probably local food.... excellent. PS... thanks again to Tony.

Beware of the underhand tactics of this Hotel. I attended a dinner there and received a fine of £100 for using the car park! Manager has refused to help and says that the matter is concluded!!! They at first stated they would sort this out and then have left it to me the customer to try and do so. This has caused me immense stress. I certainly wouldn't want to go there again. The food was a bit on the poor side too.

Great located hotel and great service from start to finish. Rather small room but I knew this when I booked it and was only 65 quid! Will happily return again and highly enjoyed the breakfast also! Well done best Western

I took my family who had come to visit us to this hotel as we were told it was a nice place to have a quiet drink. The same round of drinks here cost us £12 more in total than the previous pub we had visited and the 5 people in our party who only drank Guinness all agreed that the Guinness here was the worst pint the worst of Guinness that had ever had in their life with the head being bubbly (like it was washing up liquid). The bar was shut without asking anyone for last orders. We won't be returning ever again unfortunately

Nice hotel in a great location. We stayed one night using a buy a gift . Breakfast really nice . Only downside was our room was on the front opposite the walkabout bar and the noise from this kept us awake for a few hours. Also paid £20 supplement for the buy a gift when we booked but was asked for this payment again on check out. When the receptionist checked the paperwork this had in fact been paid, just beware and keep any receipts.

Good hotel although our room was small but clean and tidy. Bed a bit soft. Good breakfast. Most staff friendly and helpful. Good central location ideal for seeing all the sites. No lift to upper floors which can cause a problem for some guests.

Could it have something to do with the new manager on reception perhaps. Stayed at this hotel many times over the years, but never been treated so well like we were this visit. Lovely, friendly charming gentleman checked us in, and seemed to be there all the time. A couple of silly manor questions, issues, and he was so professional with the way he dealt with everything. Real credit to your hotel. Lovely clean comfy room as always. We will be back again in August, so it is our hope that he will still be working there.

Enjoyed afternoon tea with 20 family and friends for a surprise 70th for my mom. Great communication beforehand - especially after needing to rearrange the date due to the snow earlier this year. We were well looked after, food and wine were great. Lovely gesture at the end with birthday chocolates presented to my mom, courtesy of the manager. Would def recommend. Thanks to everyone who looked after us and helped to make it a lovely occasion.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the George. Having never visited Lichfield before we needed a hotel close to Lichfield City railway station as we were visiting the Black Country Museum and we also wanted to see what Lichfield had to offer. The hotel is very conveniently placed for City station, around a 7 minute walk away. Our train brought us into Lichfield Trent Valley station which is over a mile away. However for just 45p we discovered we could catch a train between the two stations...Excellent! Especially as it was raining. The hotel itself was lovely, a little pricey maybe but then you get what you pay for and it was worth it. We had a room at the back and it was very quiet with an enormous bathroom with plenty of surface room for putting down your toiletries. The bed was huge as it was two singles pushed together and nice and comfy too. We had breakfast which was a buffet served in the restaurant and that too couldn't be faulted. The staff were very friendly and obliging and on our last day we were able to leave our cases safely behind reception and collect them later which was great. Lichfield is lovely. Unfortunately our weather wasn't but we will definitely return as there is so much to see and do and also when you purchase a ticket for the Black Country museum it is valid for a whole year. We need to go back there as we didn't manage to see everything.

We stayed with friends to go to the 'Allo 'Allo night that was being held in the Garrick Room. We had helpful staff, comfortable rooms and both the meal at the event and breakfast were excellent. On arrival we complained that our rooms were at opposite ends of the hotel and we were immediately switched to adjacent rooms, without any fuss. A word of warning - rooms on the front of the hotel can be noisy on weekend nights because of drinkers outside a club opposite. not the hotel's fault of course, but a bit annoying as they were about until well after 2.00am.

Lovely city centre hotel in the historic city of Lichfield. The staff are friendly & the rooms are clean & comfortable. The breakfast is buffet style with a good selection of both cold & freshly cooked items. The hotel has its own car park. A very enjoyable stay.

We stayed in room 75. At least for a few minutes until we discovered that the heating didn't work. The staff were very quick to offer a small convector heater while the issue was investigated and we moved downstairs to room 65 (with heating). The response was good, we were helped to the new room by a very pleasant chap and reception managed the change with no problems at all. Overall the room was just about big enough to merit being a double. Rooms 75 and 65 both have terrible window aspects (across a small space to a wall) but we didn't expect panoramic vistas, given the central location so not a problem for us. The heating and plumbing systems need some updating and the hotel generally is beginning to feel worn but it was clean, the staff were helpful and pleasant throughout and, with its central location, the George served our purposes very well.

Room 63 This is classed as a superior room. It has two chairs ,large bed ,chest of draws the tv sits on desk and table. The heating was atrocious, no radiators except Bathroom, old fashioned blowers which were not on when we arrived and it was freezing. The bathroom was like the North Pole. I informed reception and was told “the heating will come on” of course it did not. The deputy manager came and tried to fix radiator but ended up calling in the plumber who got it working but unfortunately left it leaking and we had a lake on Bathroom floor. The manager brought a small oil radiator to the room and showed us how to turn the heating on, it did start to warm up but to have it full on was very noisy indeed. Thankfully the 20th was not so cold. The wardrobe by the bathroom door was like a deep freeze, when we got clothes out the next day they were so cold we moved everything out. The toilet flush is suspect in as much as it has to be pumped to work effectively. The hospitality tray was meagre. On pack of biscuits which I opened on arrival and the open part packet was left the next day with no replacement. Breakfast Buffet style and you could say barely warm, we asked for fresh fried egg as those out were in our view uneatable. Bacon was either hard or undercooked . The duty manager at all times tried hard to rectify things and apologised. On checking out our bill had been reduced from £265 to £235; this deduction was not discussed or explained to us, it just appeared on the bill. I do not consider this adjustment was adequate. We would not go back and certainly would not recommend superior room63.

We got a good deal including breakfast for 1 night's stay. Unfortunately the receptionist chose to deal with a parcel delivery rather than us when we went to check in. The twin room was clean but quite small but was seriously over heated and with no access to fresh air. Strangely the bathroom window was also not double glazed so street noise woke us at pub closing time. The same receptionist told us when we checked out that the heating was pre-set. Could have been a really good stay as it is very central and with free parking.

I regularly visit the George for a light lunch, sometimes wine and lots of tea with three friends and we have a lovely leisurely lunch. The service and food are good and excellent value. That's why we always meet here.

Booked to have afternoon tea for my special birthday, with my family. The george was always the place to go in lichfield but i must say how disappointed i was this time. Arrived for our 2oclock booking to be told "but we close at 2". Was shows to our table and was served what i can only say was the minimum amount they could get away with serving. There were 5 of us, 3 sharing one stand which had the same amount as the 2 person stand except it had one extra scone. In all we had one slice of bread each a slice of quiche, a scone and half a cup cake. They then started to lay the tables around us for the evening meal making us feel we should not linger. This was not the birthday treat i was hoping for and would not recommend it. There are better places to go in lichfield.

Ultimately, you stay in a hotel to get a decent nights sleep. I didn't get that, for the reasons below: The mattress on the bed (room 38) was ancient, and lopsided. It leaned down to the right be several inches, leading to a general feeling of seasickness. No matter what I did, I couldn't get comfy even though at first site, it looks ok. There was faint music audible throughout the night. It sounded like a radio in a cleaners room - other people have commented on this, and it's a bit of a mystery. The final negative didn't affect me too much, as I didn't get much sleep and I was awake, but bang on 6.30am on a Tuesday morning, the worlds loudest lorry, with the worlds dodgiest exhaust reversed into the back yard of the hotel with the worlds loudest audible warning “Warning - vehicle is reversing. Warning - vehicle is reversing. Warning - vehicle is reversing”. Then the worlds worst refuse collector emptied the worlds largest bottle bin into the back of the truck as loudly as possible. Just in case anyone was still awake, he slammed it down on the ground. Other than that, it was clean and tidy, staff were very nice and friendly, it just needs a bit of a refurb. Great location, right in between the train station and the cathedral. A £100 mattress would convert half of the negative comments on here to five star, but unfortunately you can tell they don't read the notes on here as they don't comment on them. 3 Star is fair on this, it would take half an hour for them to convert it to a 5

Very surprised that the hotel made no attempt to clear ice and snow for Literature Festival visitors. Pleading 'the law' in case they get sued. More likely to be their insurance company. So, very surprised, to find that in the afternoon they had cleared much of it.

Excellent address. Calm, friendly check-in, room was compact, charming, perfectly clean and with comfortable bed & good bathroom facilities. Free parking right behind the hotel. Very convenient to visit Lichfield. Would be happy to come here again.

I paid for what was supposed to be a single room and having stayed in many single rooms this by far the most spacious. The bed was larger than a single which was great, TV screen could be positioned so that you could watch it from any angle of the room. The room itself was clean and spacious. The food is a bit pricey Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again without a doubt.

Not normally one to write reviews but felt the need on this occasion. I chose this hotel as it had 4 stars, good reviews and a great location and a decent brand. How disappointed I was. Felt like I'd stepped into 1980s. The decor and general feel is so old and tired complete with old hotel smell. My room (37) had music pumping through it from when I arrived at 5pm to when I woke up for the fourth time at 5am. The bathroom was freezing with an Arctic breeze whistling through the badly kept windows. That said the bath filled up quickly and the bed was fine. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry when room service warned me about the anchovies that come in my caesar salad. When I said pardon he described them as little fish, like I didn't know what one was. More I was surprised to be warned of a standard ingredient. Didn't have breakfast. Got up and left as soon as I could. I don't know if i have different expectations from others who have left reviews but to call this a four star is ridiculous. Best Western not for best effort.

Lovely function room, excellent food and service,highly recommend.Plenty of staff to attend to needs, bar prices more expensive upstairs than in the downstairs bar area - which could get a little cramped.

Would not stay here again, despite its great location. Room ok but everything pretty basic. Needs refurbishing urgently. Very dated and tired. The receptionist was unfriendly and borderline rude on checking us in and out, which I found a bit rich considering we were waiting quite a while for someone to appear on arrival. Customer service training wouldn't go amiss. Luckily, we were only here for one night. I was glad to leave.

We met whilst working in Lichfield 30 years ago and decided to go back for our 27th wedding anniversary. The hotel room we stayed in was excellent with a nice four poster bed, a separate sitting area and two TVs so no issues with the room or communal areas. Our only complaint is that on the night we booked the hotel were holding a gin and food presentation evening and had therefore closed the restaurant to guests who were not attending. We were offered a bar meal but as it was such a special occasion for us we decided against a bar meal and easily managed to find a suitable local restaurant and had a very nice Italian meal. Not having the restaurant available to us did detract from our anniversary experience. In our opinion the hotel should have made us aware that the restaurant was not available to guests during the booking process or made alternative arrangements for guests who did not wish to attend the gin and food event.

This hotel is great. You step aside right into the centre of Lichfield. Another bonus is you don't have to pay extra for parking. The hotel has many places where you can just sit, read a paper or chat and sample their very large selection of gins. We stayed in room 41. It was perfect for the two of us, large with a couple of sofas if you want to watch TV. The bathroom is small with no bath, but it was ok. Our only complaint was the standard of food in the restaurant. Its quite expensive and the quality is not great. The staff are lovely. I would recommend this hotel is you want a central location and you like to chill.

Great location at the top of the town. Nice bar, friendly young staff and a small but well chosen selection of British classics on the lunch menu. Service was friendly and the food was well cooked, well presented and tasty. Very well priced for this quality of food. Great place for a relaxed Saturday lunch.

Attended a Christmas Dinner in a freezing cold room. Cold food served on cold plates and drinks order forgotten till end of meal. Surrounded by rude drunken guests and a terrible disco with the wrong music. Very disappointing again.

Very convenient location to explore Lichfield on foot. Interesting old building sensitively modernised. Having stayed once en route to elsewhere, we enjoyed our stay so much that we have found excuses and modified trips to visit again. Breakfast and dinner options for vegans.

Booked 2 superior double rooms, one had a four poster and both had separate seating area. We also booked a double room. We were 5 in the group plus one 7 month old. A cot was provided for the baby. Staff were very helpful and we were impressed. The superior rooms were at the back of the hotel looking over the carpark but also the cathedral. The front of the hotel was a bit noisy as it was Friday and Saturday nights

Just stayed at the george the sixth time ,not disappointed nice welcome at reception when we arrived we had ask for a room near the lift which we had room 21 .Breakfast the next morning was a bit of a let down we ask for runny poach eggs when they arived over cooked i must say the young lad did his best to put it right it didn't spoilt our stay we will be back

We recently ate lunch here. They offer a carvery with a selection of cold starters or soup and a choice of desserts. The food was of a really good quality and there was plenty of it. We were extremely well looked after by Mark and his staff. Our grandson has several food allergies and the hotel really made an effort to accommodate him. We will definitely eat there again. Thank you.

We were quickly seated and food came out quickly. The staff were friendly but giving food out seemed like a very serious military operation with (I'm assuming) managers ordering what goes where and the waiting staff doing as they were told. It just didn't feel very personal or like I was being waited on. Pate was nice, turkey dinner was nice, baileys cheesecake was nice. 10/10 for the food. There seemed to be a lot of bodies and tables in this one small function room. More than previous years and that was already a tight squeeze. Tables aren't moved to make way for a bigger dance floor which I found odd. There were clearly too many people for that one tiny dance floor.

we stayed here for one night for the new years eve party. Our room was lovely nice and warma with all we needed. Even the curtains kept out the light. We didnt hear any noise from the outside of the hotel but we were at the back which i think would have made a different. the food in the hotel is lovely. The party night was great and i have to compliment the staff as everyone of them were really attentive especially the duty manager who i would say was exceptional. Thank you The George in lovely Lichfield. We really enjoyed our experience.

This hotel is excellently located for visiting Lichfield city centre. It has free parking for guests and is right in the city centre. It's stylishly and tastfullly decorated. We had a superior room which included a small separate lounge area with sofa and tv.

This was a works Christmas get together so quite a few of us. The hotel itself is quite grand, lovely big impressively dressed room the staff were very efficient and the service of the food was quick with not too long a wait between courses. All the food was nicely presented and tasted lovely the only criticism i have was they were a bit tight on the roast potatoes, or i should say potato just one per plate! The disco was fabulous.

Had the works Christmas night out at the George Hotel. The 3 course meal was excellent, staff friendly and disco later played a good variety of music. Some colleagues did B&B and were full of praise,said they would definitely stay there again. I certainly would like to go back for another meal and dance.The hotel is central with a car park.

I visited this hotel for a meal with friends. We were told before booking that a vegan menu was available, however, upon arriving we discovered this wasn't true and one vegetarian choice from each course on the menu was cobbled together as vegan. One of our party had leeks missed off her choice and another member chose the Christmas menu, but was charged for a coffee that should have been included and a mince pie was also missing. I chose the turkey as my main course and was disappointed to see two slices of what appeared to be preformed turkey. The service was slow and even though we'd chosen the wine before taking our table, we had to ask for it to be brought. All in all, a shoddy performance from the kitchen and waiting staff.

Just returned from staying at The George Hotel overnight for a Christmas party night. The hotel is in the perfect position to enjoy all that Lichfield has to offer. The hotel itself is cosy and welcoming. Reception staff and all staff are very helpful, friendly and welcoming. However, we did have a problem with our room which was professionally and compassionately dealt with by Jacqui on reception. Thank you for that. The Christmas party meal was delicious and all the staff worked really hard especially the head of the waiting staff who's name I did not get. The evening disco had a wonderful atmosphere and everyone danced and enjoyed themselves. The next morning we went to breakfast to be greeted by the hardworking head of waiting staff. She was friendly and chatty considering she had been working so hard the evening before, I think her name may be Claire but not sure sorry. The breakfast has an abundance of choice and is self service in the lovley Darwin's restaurant. Highly recommend both the hotel and the party nights. We shall definitely be booking for next year. Thank you again to all the staff and a Merry Christmas to you all.

We booked a party of 6 for the Christmas celebration menu (I had dietary requirements but appeared to be charged an extra £6 for this) The meal consisted of tiny starter portions, two slices of tasteless turkey, small stuffing 2 x 1/2 a potato and a dish of overcooked frozen mixed veg.I have had far better meals in a works canteen for a 1/4 of the price.This is not the standard expected from Darwins where we have previously had an excellent meal.The desert was ok but i was charged an additional £6 for 4 slices of rubbery tasteless cheese instead of a desert due to my diet.We would not recommend eating here

very old charming hotel, rooms are nice except for very drafty windows. beware of cold air blowing in during the winter. some rooms are a long walk up many stairs to get to without elevator, if you have heavy luggage, you will be dragging it along. Hotel is close to many great restaurants.

My wife and I stayed one night (dinner bed and breakfast) at The George Hotel and we would recommend it. The room we had was very good, spacious, clean and with good facilities. Please note you couldn't open windows but there was air conditioning. The restaurant was excellent - we had a wonderful dinner with varied menu and good friendly waiter. The breakfast was also excellent with lots of choices. The hotel has plenty of parking (you have to register your car at reception on arrival). The only things they need to improve in my view are - the welcome at reception was a little frosty, and the barman said he knew nothing about the range of beers when I asked him which was local. We will stay again one day I'm sure!

I have stayed at this hotel many times and never been disappointed. Always greeted by friendly and efficient staff. Very comfortable, clean rooms with good quality furnishings and all the little extras as standard, most rooms have a fridge. All have heaters and air conditioning. Iron, ironing board, trouser press, tea/coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. Also have telephone,TV and radio/alarm clock. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Good food served in the cosy lounge bar at a very reasonable price. Excellent buffet breakfast with a full range to suit everyone. Located in the centre of the city, everything of interest is just a short walk away - Cathedral, shops, Beacon Park, Stowe pool, Garrick Theatre, Samuel Johnson museum, train station, bus station. There are many restaurants and eateries in the same street as the hotel. Something to suit all tastes. A short bus ride will take you to the National Memorial Arboretum and other places of interest.

Lovely day out with Halesowen flower club , Monday 27th November, coffee on arival, followed by beautiful flower demonstration by Ann Brown , then excellent carvery meal served by most helpful and pleasant staff, coffee and mince pies followed by more demonstrations ???? and all arrangements raffled at the end , once again excellent day at the George Hotel , and thanks again to all the staff , would recommend this place to anyone visiting Lichfield ??

Visiting for Madams works Christmas ‘Do' in the Garrick -110seater – mixed firms ‘Christmas Party' function room. Lets start with the positives:- Very reasonably priced accommodation reflecting it's in the heart of picturesque Lichfield, with its own car park (which can be very full). But needs to keep an eye on value against its newer built opposition. Real ale at the bar – a significant plus for me, but as we shall see……And also the recent trend of innumerable Gins and mixers is a nice feature. An old building with convoluted corridors and wonky floors, it has a well worn charm. The difference between Std Double and De Lux is definitely worth the extra! Hearty buffet style breakfast. So where did it go wrong for us? Well, at many steps there seemed to be a member of staff not actually ready to meet the guests expectations. I doubt it is the individuals, but more their supervisory, management direction that leads them this way. Let me explain:- Arrival, having booked a De Lux within the firms block booking – ‘sorry, no all your party are in Std'. ‘Can we upgrade now then?', ‘No, we are fully booked.' Right well we wont let this spoil the evening, OK but we are confident we have the reservation details, but off to our cupboard on the 1st floor. A short while later we get a call from reception, 'Sorry, we found your reservation, come down to reception and we'll sort it out.' So, vacate room and lug the overnight bags down to reception to be given a vastly bigger and nicer De Lux on the 2nd floor. It would have been a much nicer touch to have portered our things from one to the other perhaps – especially as this little gaff was not of our making. Clearly something wrong in the booking/allocation process allows this to happen? The first beer, great two local brewery handpumps. Next visit to the bar during mingle time and one pump has gone ‘off'. Oh well, but I'll continue with my first choice, so no worries there. We move on to Garrick and are seated, told there is an adjoining bar to the room. Excellent, ‘time for a top up anyone?' ‘No sir, if you want beer YOU have to fetch it from downstairs…' That visit is met with ‘I cant serve you, you haven't made a card deposit at the reception.' OK back to reception I trot, offer my card to enable a tab to be generated (the first couple of rounds had already been accepted against my room number…). No, they cant take a deposit – to be honest I don't know why, as they had already taken a £60 down payment against the room (so I understood) during the booking in episode. We all move on. At my following visit, the sparkler is jammed so tightly on the swan neck it simply cannot be removed, and it was good to see bar staff and kitchen hand did try really hard to accommodate my ‘southern' affectation for requesting flat beer! Mmmmm. I didn't appreciate the comment 'so you must be a Londoner, then?' From the lead barman. This is now starting to sound like I'm a lush! My next visit and the second hand crafted beer is ‘off'……Really? On a night when the hotel is ‘fully booked' and they cant even keep two beers on? Very poor cellarmanship – or planning. So, lets jump back upstairs to the meal. Somehow I suspect sous or Chef have had little input here, Other than perhaps the Christmas bells – I know, commercial microwaves don't have bells. My starter, pate with cold and soft toast. The Turkey main – reconstituted pressed roll thinly sliced, and a double stock cube sized shape of stuffing. Flaccid flavourless vegetables straight from frozen without even a garnish. Christmas pudding surely can't be so poor? Well yes it can if you receive a pre-formed medallion of pudding in a sauce. All for a price per head of circa £30. Oh, and wine is extra. Not even water on the tables, and to cap it all self-service coffee at the end of the meal from the upstairs 'bar'. Now I understood it to be ‘party night', but I don't want to have to shout into my neighbours ear during the meal, just to overcome the ‘disco sound system'. No, I couldn't converse with those sitting opposite. I actually spoke to a man on the stairs who told me he supplied the sound system and DJ, he seemed very pleased with his work that night. I was in my 20's thirty years ago, and have little inclination to relive those days of ringing ears following clubbing through the night, I accept some perhaps do! Of course we had a choice, and accepted the invitation, but I think this has settled my mind to decline every future offer without exception. Returning downstairs to the bar to escape – ‘excellent you have got my beer on again?' ‘ You'll have to wait whilst I pull through the other pump'. Really? Why not pour one for me then go back to housekeeping? But whilst I wait another member of barstaff without comment about me leaning on the bar pulls down the grills in front of my nose! I'm then told ‘ the night porter will deal with drinks from now on'. ‘But who is, and where is he?' This became a recurring theme for many more as they escaped the disco…Its penny pinching not to keep one barman on for a couple of hours more when ‘we have a fully booked party night, sir'. Poor chap is well past retirement age, perhaps not so nimble of mind, nor fleet of foot as he once was. But a quiet harrah for the third age worker! Why not keep on one or two young colleagues, to do his running? Summary – Hotel ‘good value, entertaining staff probably let down by management direction'. Party Nite ‘low quality and pricy offering. Hey its Christmas, they know you won't be back for months, if at all, so can get away with it'.

This is a little long giving the + & - of my experience. The hotel and room were adequate and not overly expensive, hot water, AC, facilities were good (could nit pic at bathroom fittings broken), no Wi-Fi signal up in the loft :-( Breakfast was excellent, staff were very nice (apart from one barman who was replaced after an hour), drinks were fine and not expensive. So why one star?. We held a company Christmas party there. Our party was split into two, this is clearly not good enough, we asked why to be told there were too many people for one big table, we pointed out that with a little though applied it would have been possible to seat us together to no avail, eight of our party were outcasts. Food was duly served, I had the salmon starter, this consisted of 90% lettuce, 10% Mayo 10% salmon mashed with some unidentified filler. Main course of turkey arrived, it consisted of a 1 inch square of frozen stuffing, 1/2 a roast potato, two wafer thin slices of reformed and frozen turkey that was totally tasteless. If you were lucky as a filler you could find a sheet of freezer paper between the "turkey" slices. (Apparently the fish was good) The vegetables arrived, like many people I do not like certain vegetables, they were frozen mixed vegetables in one large bowl!, many of us did not want or like certain vegetables so went without, desert of Christmas pudding or Cheesecake were both good. After the "meal" it was announced "coffee is in the bar, go and help yourselves". I asked to speak with management when available, this did not happen. All in I felt it was not fit for purpose and not as described. Speaking with other guests it seems "in house" meals from the restaurant is normally excellent, one can only assume the food was prepared off site. One described it as " food served to pensioners in a home" another as hospital food. A couple left at 23:00 saying e are going to find a McDonnalds, another hoped the night porter was able to get them some sandwiches. The advert reads = "Celebrate in style at one of our renowned Christmas Party Nights – after a delicious 3 course meal with Christmas crackers and novelties there's a disco to ensure you have an evening to remember!". Yes it was certainly a night to remember but not for the right reasons.

Lichfield is a very pretty old town and the George is right in the centre. Lots of choice of bars and restaurants close by. The Darwin restaurant eas great value for money with really good food. The staff were really helpful and friendly

Superior double room lived up to its title in comfort and style. Unfortunately both of us chose the same main course for dinner and both meals were below the standard expected in that the vegetables were far past their use by date.

I recently stayed here again, what can I say the staff are wonderful. They cannot do enough for you. I requested a particular room and a very early check in, both of these were met with no problems. I would recommend this hotel, for location, cleanliness, breakfast and above all, the friendliness of the staff. Look forward to staying again soon

We spent one night here to visit the National Memorial Arboretum and it is perfectly situated only a few miles away right in the centre of town. We opted for a superior twin which was more than spacious, comfy beds, massive bathroom with toiletries, tea making facilities and sofa bed. The staff were friendly and I recommend the breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was delicious and there was plenty of options. The parking was also a bonus as it was right outside. We will definitely stay here again.It was a great price.

we stayed there for a few days earlier this month and would be happy to recommend it. The room was great, we upgraded to a superior. The evening meal was excellent, but the breakfast was buffet style and much of it dried up with the low turn over of food.

We visited with friends last week to attend the Murder Mystery Evening and also booked an overnight stay in "superior" rooms. The hotel is right in the city centre, close to the cathedral, shops, pubs and restaurants, and is clean and nicely decorated. Our rooms were excellent, well worth the extra £10 a room. The Murder Mystery Evening took place in the Garrick Room and was fun to participate in, and the accompanying meal was very good and served quickly as you ordered your dishes in advance of the event. My only complaint is the very poor selection of drinks on offer in the Garrick Room bar and the fact that the waiter was obviously instructed to sell as much wine as possible as he asked many times whether people wanted wine, but other drinks had to be purchased at the bar. The choice of drinks in the room was so limited and aimed at young drinkers we ended up only having one drink and went out to a local pub after the "murder" was solved! Breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly so the only thing to prevent a 5* rating was the drinks issue - even more frustrating as the hotel does sell real in the main bar.

Very small portion, no imagination in the choice of sandwich fillings, pork pie soggy pastry, not sure what the cake wae. As soon as we had eaten we were ushered out at speed no time to chat. Very poor all round.

Stayed for a night as at a wedding. Had a really nice room very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice and everything we had was wonderful. The staff were helpful and very nice. The hotel is right in the centre of the city, minutes walk from bars, cafes and the Cathedral.

The location is city centre and not so easy to find, especially at night! Reception was efficient but could have been more welcoming. Room comfortable and very clean. Arrived late so ate in lounge bar because we wanted something simple. Ordered scampi and chips, and lasagne. Whilst waiting for food, someone came out to tell us there were no peas to go with the scampi! At 7.30pm! The lasagne was OK. Food very cheap, so you get what you pay for. Breakast was buffet-style and the food was hot. Good selection. We have booked 5 hotels over next month. This was dearest. It is certainly not the best though.

Now I've worked in this type of Hotel in my youth but that granted was in the early 90s! So I was a little dubious when my Parents invited myself and my Girlfriend out for a meal there using a voucher from their friends for their 50th wedding anniversary. My concerns were proven right the food was of such a low standard,my ox cheek Wellington was nothing more than a puff pastry case with what looked like a spiders web inside!! Completely inedible and was sent back Both my parents had the Monkfish.This was really over cooked! and before cooking would of been to small for a main course. We complained there and then and Mark the restaurant manager did his best,I felt sorry for him having to put that level of substandard food in front of paying customers Which brings me to the point! If you are charging people the sort of money they are ,the monkfish was £17.50 Then people should expect and receive a quality plate of food. Invest in classically trained Chefs Best Western! That take pride in their work! and move out of the 90s. Lichfield is becoming a great place to eat out with some truly good restaurants Sorry to say the George Hotel isn't one of them

Lovely hotel with friendly staff and a great room. Checking in and out was easy. The restaurant has a nice menu and the buffet breakfast was lovely. Good to get decent sausages! A nice touch was that it was a birthday visit and we were presented with a birthday card from the hotel.

Had a Groupon booked for 8.15 on the Friday evening, shown to table a little earlier than expected. Staff were friendly but forgot to bring our drinks over which we ordered and waited until the starter came out for them to arrive after prompt. The chateaubriand was ordered to be medium rare. It came out medium and had no pink so medium well in my opinion. I did however not complain, as I had already eaten half of it before it came a little chewy. A few of the chips were white and a little undercooked - frozen chips stuck together throughout cooking. We got asked if we wanted dessert, we browsed the menu but decided we had eaten enough from this restaurant without spending more money. The food was for the most part enjoyable, the waiting staff and restaurant manager was very polite. I was overall quite disappointed with the chateaubriand, so on that basis and for £25 for a chateaubriand of expect it to have been a little better. Also - the Latte was Awful. I'd not recommend that.

6 of us went to the George for a family get together. My parents treated us all as they had previously visited on two occasions and were really impressed with the food quality. What a disappointing experience! 3 of the party ordered sirloin and we were told that there was only 1 left. We were offered 2 rib-eyes with no supplement charge of £3.50. The steaks were delivered to our table and on tasting the 2 rib-eyes, my husband and brother-in-law spat the meat out as it tasted off. My father's sirloin steak was over-cooked and extremely fatty. These 3 steaks went back and the men were then offered chateaubriand with no supplement charge of £5.00. The chateaubriands were still not great as they were not cooked as requested. We accepted two of the three and the third was yet again returned. It took 15-20 minutes to be presented with another steak which is unacceptable as everyone else had finished their food. I can only think that there is a new chef and this seems to be suggested in other posts. The manageress eventually came to our table and offered us complimentary desserts but we declined as we had to get home to relieve our babysitters. The manageress took down our details and promised to contact us the next day. My mother received an email that stated that they were sorry and that they hoped that this experience would not deter us from visiting again in the future. We were hoping that they could have offered more than a basic apology via email. The customer service is shocking.

Accomodation and facilities were very good. Breakfast provided a waide range of excellent food. To suit all types. Restaurant served a varied menu with well cooked food which suited all types of diners. Excellent service provided in all areas of the hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

Excellent stay, friendly, helpful, professional staff. food and service was outstanding. My Serloin steak was perfect. thank you for making our trip to Lichfield so enjoyable.Lichfield Cathederal is within easy walking distance. Good variety of shops around the corner.

Went over for lunch at Darwins. Lovely roomy dining room, background music nice and not intrusive. Service attentive and food well presented and cooked. All in all a good restful and satisfying lunchtime -will go again.

Love to go to the theme nights and never been disappointed until last night the comedy dining cast were brilliant unfortunately the food was the poorest ive had anywhere Our table of eight all had problems with our meals and those who had salmon starter have had tummy problems today The main meals were warmed up and hard and barely eatable and the bread and butter pudding was just that warm bread and curdled custard not a piece of fruit or flavour in sight. Cheese and biscuit was best option. Shame Time to reconsider our next booking if they Don't sort food soon

Stayed here for one night for a business meeting nearby. Car parking was good and free, the check-in was really efficient and friendly and the room was really comfortable, clean and had air conditioning which was welcoming as it was a bit warm. There is also free Wi-Fi in the room. The breakfast was a buffet and the food was of very good quality. This hotel is in a very good location in Lichfield and I would highly recommend it.

Our third meal at the George. Hats off to the new chef and excellent staff. Polite, well trained and could not do enough for the customer. The food was inventive, well cooked and beautifully presented. We will be back.

Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Staff very helpful explaining food,they actually sample the food when the menu changes, also very knowledgeable on local gins. Food is a la'carte and is delicious. Not a cheap meal but would highly recommend.

We spent a Saturday night here for our wedding anniversary. The location is right in the centre of the city. We couldn't park in the hotel car park because they had 2 wedding parties that day so we had to park in the pay and display just behind the hotel at a cost of £8 for 24 hours. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Our room was extremely hot even though the heating wasn't on but there is air con installed. Being an old building, we could hear the guests above us moving about and the location means you can hear outside noise from people who are out drinking but this didn't go on too late. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant. Well presented and extremely tasty food. We had one drink in the bar but because of the wedding parties, we decided to try the nearby bars. We started in the cocktail bar located just up from the hotel, then went to a pub almost opposite the hotel to watch an excellent group. We ended our stay with a very tasty buffet style breakfast. There was a good choice of fresh fruit and cereals and I was happy to be able to have a peppermint tea. We loved Lichfield and the location of the hotel was ideal for getting out and about. We would definitely stay here again. While you're in Lichfield, visit the National Memorial Arboretum. Its a must.

I would have given the report zero stars if I could. Stayed at the above hotel overnight 22/23 September 2017. Room 32, courtyard view. Room just about adequate... Problems encountered; Noise (both inside and outside in courtyard, latter at 6am when staff were obviously on kitchen breakfast duty)... 06:30 am (member of staff) tried entering the room (who else could have opended the door with a master swipe card)..

The hotel was excellent. The food in the restaurant was a lot to be desired. The service on a number of days was atrocious, three quarters of an hour after sitting down before the first course appeared. (we had pre ordered the night before so really not acceptable). The chicken dish turned up as minced chcken with so much salt it was ghastly. When they have a large number of guests they must have suitable staff available. Breakfasts were fantastic especially the fried bread!

A group of us booked a meal. Starters wee minute. 2 pieces if ravioli in some cases. All the steaks were under cooked and cold. Well done steaks came out red. Even after 3 attempts they were still wrong. The meat was of such low quality it was inedible. Because it was a celebration we took our own cake. But weren't given plates to eat it off. Cheese and biscuits came. Just cheddar and brie. Again no plates or knives. Because it was a Groupon deal they wouldn't do anything about charges and wouldn't even give us a proper bill. A truly dreadful service by Worst Western.

I use The George as a base for my family visit to Litchfield. I can only recommend the hotel. The room was nice, despite in the far corner of the building, with a view to the church. Breakfast was excellent and the steak in the restaurant was perfectly cooked. Parking is just outside and the hotel is located just in the middle of the town close the cathedral. Staff was very friendly and polite (except one guy in the bar), so absolutely a perfect stay. Will absolutely choose The George next time.

Brilliantly located in the town centre we had a room overlooking the main street, a bit noisy late on but it is the center of the town. Well appointed room clean and comfortable, a nice breakfast as well.

Delightful place to stay! Decor, room comforts, staff , all top notch ! From the booking experience with the lovely Lucy to the actual stay I cannot think of anything negative to say! They all made our stay one to remember for all the right reasons ! Will gladly return and highly recommend to all who want a great place to stay in lichfield ! A very well managed hotel !

Very pleased with the whole experience. Friendly efficient staff, spacious clean room. Central location close to the shops and the cathedral . Ample parking with disable slots. The city is only small and easy to get around being traffic free in the centre.

The superior room in which we stayed was superb. Excellent decor and furnishing with a really stylish ensuite bathroom. There was an extra room down a short 'corridor' which gave the impression of being in a small apartment. This was probably the best hotel accommodation we've ever had. Food in the hotel didn't live up to this standard. Coffee at breakfast was often lukewarm and seemed to be of the 'mass catering' sort. The toast rather rubbery (not freshly toasted). It seemed to us that the hotel caters mainly for business people who take breakfast between 7am and 7.30am. For them, food at the breakfast buffet bar would seem freshly cooked. But for holiday guests who arrive after 8am, some of the hot food (bacon, black pudding) seems rather dry. Staff at the hotel were helpful and efficient and room maintenance was very good. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel because of its excellent location in Lichfield and the high standard of the rooms.

In general I find very little to fault at The George. However on August 21st myself,wife & daughter opted for the 2 course Carvery..We remarked the Starters were basically hard boiled eggs in a mayo sauce surrounded by a selection of salads in different guises.No mixed meats or fish of any description!! Unfortunately the main Carvery really was not up to standard,the Turkey was good,my fishcake was very dry together with the roast potatoes and parsnips.Leeks in Sauce at least made my fishcake edible. In short we found the meal generally bland and it will a long time before we return!!

A wonderful place to meet with, if you're lucky, a place in their private car park just off the public parking area, and ideally situated for a quick foray into the adjoining retail area. The bar is reasonably extensive, comfortable and provides a wide range of bar snacks to supplement ones alcoholic/ non alcoholic imbibings, all at a reasonable price in very pleasant surroundings The hotel's adjoining restaurant is pleasantly equipped, quiet, very pleasant , with a good carvery and attentive service, although the range of 'hors d'oeuvres' is somewhat more than limited, and disappointing - could be significantly improved at minimal cost.

When a wedding is taking place as a resident you will not get anywhere near the bar or be able to find anywhere to sit. Also the noise from both music and lubricated guests will disrupt your peace and quiet. When I checked out this morning The George tried to charge me for three items from the minibar that I had not had! I had to argue my case with Kate on reception to get her to remove the erroneous charges. An apology would have gone a long way Kate. Always check your bill thoroughly when checking out.

£36 for a afternoon tea for 3, comprising of one egg, one turkey and cranberry and one smoked salmon and cream cheese finger sandwich. A small piece of cheap pork pie an a bought in mini quiche. A dry scone, cream & jam and small square of lemon cake. Service slow, we'd drank our tea before the food arrived Had better for the same price. The hotel itself is quite nice though and very clean

Visiting Litchfield Cathedral we asked a local to recommend a place for lunch and she suggested the carvery at The George. Just few minutes walk away in the town center. Thanks so much to the mystery lady. 2 courses for £10.50 .........Excellent value.... i had the delicious help yourself cold salad for a starter, followed by turkey from the carvery which was moist, succulent and tasty. An exceptional range of vegetables was available for you to choose from, and i had a little of everything. Accompanied by a chilled glass of wine and faultless and friendly service the meal was very, very enjoyable. We finished our drinks in the pretty garden area. We will be coming back here again, and I`ll be looking out for their specialty gins next time.

Had a lovely stay here. Food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful especially reception and restaurant \\ bar staff. This hotel is in the centre of Lichfield and ideal for everything ie. Cathedral, river walk, places to eat and shop. Ideal location. Would stay here again if visiting Lichfield.

Central location in the heart of the town.parking.i had a single room which came with a 4ft bed which was comfy.pleasant enough decor and good quality breakfast with lots of variety.my only complaint would be the compact shower cubicle with overhead shower which cascaded down without any maneuverability to get your head out the way.not to my liking at all.i shall make sure if I stay here again that the bathroom suits my needs.i did find it constricted.

I recently celebrated my birthday at the Garrick Suite and stayed over for the night. I was very pleased with the double room that I had booked , it was a good sized room, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I was particularly impressed with the security to residents rooms. The Garrick Suite is a lovely room with it's own bar in a separate adjoining room with a further room for the buffet to be served. The staff were all extremely helpful and all went out of their way to ensure a brilliant night was had by all. The cold buffet was good but the 3 gluten free options were poor this time. At a previous celebration the year before, the GF option was outstandin. . Breakfast the following day was also good as was the service. Lichfield is a beautiful City and well worth visiting and would recommend the George hotel to stay in

free parking, centrally located, good food, good size quality rooms. What more could you want for a short stay in Lichfield. 2 little niggles - the bar shuts at 11pm - WHY?? Breakfast team got a bit overloaed when too many breakfast at the same time. May consider another routine for this. Other than these noting bad whatsoever

Enjoyed a recent short break at this hotel. Very well situated in the centre of Lichfield. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was included in the price and was extremely good.

This is a lovely small hotel in the centre of Lichfield. We were greeted very warmly and found all the staff friendly and very helpful. We had a luxury room on the second floor. Charming and quite large with a nice bathroom - had been refurbished very nicely. Comfy bed and we had a good nights sleep. Unfortunately we had a very unsatisfactory meal . We were part of a large party and had pre booked the food choices. it was really not good . Lamb was very tough, chicken tasteless and the risotto very poor. Vegetables were bland. Very very disappointing. It felt like the chef had had a night off . It was one of the worst meals we have had for a long time. Such a pity as the service was excellent.

Greeted again by very happy pleasant receptionist Holly. Checked in as usual was very quick and easy. I requested the room from my previous weeks stay and was given this, so well done. Very comfortable and well presented bedroom and bathroom. Nice and relaxed inside bar area, as well as an outside seating area. looking forward to my next stay.

We were visiting the National Arboretum and wanted somewhere close to stay overnight and were not disappointed in choosing The George Hotel. There is parking at the rear (section of the public car park) which requires a permit from the hotel. The rooms cover the first and second floors and we were very pleased to find we had been upgraded when we booked in. Very spacious and comfortable. We ate in Darwin's Restaurant, which was excellent and then enjoyed a drink in the comfy bar. Breakfast the next morning was good - buffet style with hot and cold choices. All in all an ideal choice and think we shall be returning as the city of Lichfield looks delightful.

Have visited a number of times over the years and always found it to be the best hotel in the area. It's always well presented , warm and clean. Sited central in the town centre closed to bar & restaurants. Own car park to the rear of the hotel.Staff on the ball and very customer focussed.

very willing staff,they moved my room without fuss to avoid the noisy air conditioning plant, a room on the front is much better, there is no light pollution and no noise. the bar food good and the beer served just so, breakfast very pleasant, the car park totally secure

My husband and I have stayed here many times before and stayed on 6th July to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our room really had the wow factor, we had been upgraded to a very large room with a lovely four poster bed with a large TV sitting on a unit at the bottom of the bed. Lovely bedding although we slept on top of the covers as it was such a warm night. There were many sachets of hot chocolate, tea and coffee. The bathroom was fresh and clean with a bath and a shower and good quality towels. What impressed us was a wedding anniversary card which was left for us, a very nice touch. After returning to the hotel after an evening out we sat outside with one of the speciality gins this hotel offers, Sharish Magic Blue which turns pink once tonic is added, very nice but strong. We skipped breakfast in favour of a lie in. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel yet again, thank you.

A big thank you to everyone at the hotel for making my birthday so special. I had an excellent time from start to finish. The hotel was lovely and is in an excellent location. Our room was lovely and spacious with a very modern bathroom. The dinner in the restaurant was very tasty and presented just right. All of the staff could not be more helpful and efficient. I will definitely be returning.

I was among 25 friends who went for "Afternoon Tea", each paying £15. The table was nicely set but everything went downhill after that. Small plates appeared with 2 halved individual size pork pie and 2 quartered individual sized quiches - between four. Large plates of finger sandwiches were eventually brought to pass down the table with the instruction "you are allowed three each" - and clearly that was the only counting that had been done because while each of us can count to three, there were not enough to go round. That fact was greeted with incredulity. Small china pots of tea between four people were quickly emptied (and very weak) and the wait for more tea was so long it necessitated a visit to the kitchen door with the plea "please, sir, can I have some more?" Scones were a good quality - again placed on large plates to be passed around - accompanied by aerated cream and we were to share an individual conserve jar between 2. When we expected small individual cakes what came out were two types of tray bakes cut into large square chunks -one of my friends, when asked for sort of cake she selected replied "brown". The other we think was supposed to be lemon drizzle but had clearly been cut up much earlier in the day judging by the dry edges. Attractive 3 tier cake stands containing sandwiches, scones and tempting little cakes - this is not what you can hope for here! A total of £375 went into their till - but what we received was in no way a treat nor value for money. Never again!

Fabulous place I love to retreat to to get away from everything . Really friendly atmosphere , in the heart of the city , perfect place to relax and unwind . Real Ale trail & Gin trail are great fun too!

After the crematorium, we celebrated our mother's life at The George. The room, food and service was excellent. After a difficult day, we left feeling we'd given her a good send off. When we had a phone call to say we owed them £16 for two jugs of orange juice, after we'd paid a bill of £660, it left a nasty taste. We have paid them the £16.

I booked well in advance and was told that there was free parking when I arrived was told that the car park was full and had to park a good way away and pay as I was staying 2 days I had to pay city rate for car parking having said this this was the only bad part of my visit the hotel was clean and the staff was friendly I had a good nights sleep on both nights did not sample the food as I was eating out with friends but the bar was clean and the beer good

On being received with a friendly and helpful welcome, we were told that we were being upgraded. Our room (at the rear of the hotel) had a smaller room with it, containing a settee and a second television - very convenient and very useful. Recently refurbished to a good standard, the room offered freshness, comfort and good quality. The bathroom had a Porcelanosa wash-hand basin and the usual toiletries (of good quality, too) and a spacious shower including a rubber mat for inside the shower. Breakfast was decent with an ample range to choose from. A good location. An enjoyable stay.

We chose this hotel as a result of a gift from son and daughter in law. We had stayed at Best Western before but never visited Lichfield. So we went for it. Found the hotel really easily. Easy parking and book in. Hotel really well placed to the centre .Also close to a very impressive cathedral. Staff were pleasant, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was adequate and a self service buffet style. Coffee or tea was brought to you and toast was requested when required. We were upgraded on arrival and had a lovely suite. Four poster bed and small area with bed settle and tv. Air conditioning so it was marvellous. Great stay and why not try it. The Hotel is situated. On Bird Street and there are a number of bars and restaurants so I am sure it can be "lively "

Stayed here with my wife on the 30th of May. Room was way above our expectations. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and set us up for the day. All in all a lovely night away. Will definitely be returning

When booking we did not know about 'Bower' bank holiday celebrations so had a little trouble finding our way to hotel car park because of a road closure. We had 2 nights Sat & Sun so made sure we left early enough Monday to miss the parades as would have got stuck without being able to drive car out. However, hotel was a good standard as expected by Best Western. Our room was quaint, clean and well presented. A small negative being on the Bird Street side was the noise, as frequently disturbed through past 4am with drunken revellers. No outrageous behaviour just noisy, so advice would be to ask where room is situated. City centre advantages also bears the potential disadvantage! The staff were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and good quality. No complaints, just unlucky we picked a long weekend at time of Lichfield's big celebration which didn't suit our expectation for quiet exploration of the beautiful city. Well done to the staff. There were wedding celebrations also both Sat and Sun but all passed by without disrupting us with all services normal. We would stay again.

We booked the George for a Buffet lunch for our coach party visit to Lichfield. There were 40 in our party and all had the best lunch we have ever had and at a very reasonable cost. The choice was vast, the quality excellent and the staff very helpful. Many tanks to all concerned.

Only a one night stay but the experience was lovely, pleasant staff comfortable room and a super restaurant, excellent value. Lichfield offers character and interest with a number of free attractions, well worth a visit.

Went here for a drink before going for a meal at a restaurant near by. Total mayhem with a ridiculous small bar that cannot cope and severe staff shortages. There is one extremely small bar that as to cope with people waiting for a meal, people staying there and people going in for a drink. Also on top of this there is only one person serving the massive queue at the bar as all the other few staff ate taking drinks into the people already in the restaurant. Access through the bar area and the hotel is a night mare and surely a fire hazard.

Very nice hotel, centrally located. Excellent Car Parking Facilities. Tasty and Plentiful Breakfast. Friendly staff. Very speedy checking in and out. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area. Surrounding areas very nice, particularly Parks and Cathedral areas.

I booked a superior twin room for myself and my daughter, Lichfield was a good half way point for us both to meet up. We were met by friendly reception staff and even though we were early our room was ready for us to check in, The room itself was clean, spacious and welcoming. The beds were very comfy and the air conditioning helped cool down the typical heat and stuffiness of many hotel rooms. As part of the superior package we had gowns, slippers, chocolates in our rooms but as it was such a lovey spring day we made the most of the outside and did not fully utilise the extra's in the room. The hotel itself is very central to explore Lichfield, however finding the hotel is not that straightforward as it is on a no entry one way street which confuses the Sat Nav but, don't let this put you off as once parked up your car is safe and close to the hotel. Lichfield is a lovely city, the Cathedral is spectacular and a must see. So I did not score the hotel as excellent for the following reasons, coffee in the bar upon arrival was £1.70 a cup, not a bad price but....... it was vending machine coffee, tasteless and not what you would expect from a city centre hotel! The breakfast staff were not particularly friendly, most of the fruit served was out of a tin, the toast in the rack was not freshly cooked and the poached eggs (ordered to serve) were slightly underdone. But saying all that overall the majority of the staff were lovely, just a few little tweaks and I would give this hotel an excellent rating. I hope to visit Lichfield again in the future and would definitely give this hotel a second chance.

As previously mentioned, we arrived as a couple along with our Walking Group. The hotel staff were obviously overwhelmed with the large group numbers but after getting checked in, we eventually found our room (there were so many dead end hallways you would need a map). I would hate to have to find a way out of the hotel in an emergency other than using the lift as we tried using the stairways and it was like trying to get out of a maze. The room was lovely with all the perks you would expect and the breakfast was first class. What let it all down was the fact that the hotel is surrounded by clubs, pubs, restaraunts and kebab takeaways. We had a miserable nights sleep and it was not until after 4:00am that we managed to get some sleep. There was a wedding party taking place below our floor and then we were kept awake by the crowds spilling onto the street areas around the hotel. We should have known as the police had a patrol car parked outside most of the night. Those in our group who were allocated rooms at the back of the hotel fared better than the group at the front. Having travelled over from France with another long drive ahead of us up north to Scotland we could have done without the crowds outside the hotel. I believe the hotel should operate a policy like the Premier Inn group - guaranteed a good nights sleep or a refund. Such a shame to be let down by a hotel who seem to operate a sell a room without the customer care.

We stayed at the George recently for a few days and were very impressed with the hotel. Its location is perfect , Bird Street has several bars and restaurants and is only 5 minutes away from the main shopping streets. The hotel is spotlessly clean and all the staff are very attentive. The food was excellent , with plenty of choice for breakfast including items that would be freshly cooked for you , they also have a really good offer for the evening , two courses for £14.95. The bar area is lovely too and the bar food menu is good and very reasonably priced , the lounge are is very comfortable too.

I booked this hotel for our walking Group Trip, 47 people plus coach driver and myself. As with all hotels on the trip I phoned half an hour before we arrived to help make check in easier. We arrived in Lichfield and followed signs for hotel. These lead our coach into a packed car park, no place for coaches. We found the back of the hotel and entered. At reception we asked where the onsite parking was to be told there was none. I said " you knew I was bringing a coach party". Their actual reply " but we didn't think you were bringing a coach". They directed our driver to a coach park in town but didn't know if he could park there or if there was a charge. Check in was completely unorganised. All passengers crammed into a small reception with luggage. This hotel is not set up for coach groups and their website should be changed to state this.

Had a really comfortable nights stay at The George Our deal included an evening meal which was amazing...so tasty and with great presentation. Also breakfast the next mornings nag was a varied choice to suit everyone and was help your self. The staff from reception, restaurant and cleaning staff were all really pleasant, helpful and professional. The room was a decent size with twin beds and a very modern bathroom. Have stayed before and will definately stay again as is ideal location right in city centre.

Dinner quality was much less than expected and when discussed with a member of staff it was disclosed that meals were prepared some three days in advance.Breakfast was a little better but long wait in replenishing the buffet with plates and food items.Difficulties with staff communication .

Old, but right up to date, Central and easy to find with good parking at the rear. All the staff were very polite and helpful. Spotless rooms and excellent dining. We were members of a group of 20 plus who were visiting the National Memorial Arboretum, the quality of the hotel did much to enhance our trip. We will be returning.

Really enjoyed our stay again. We have stayed at the George numerous times over the years but we are unlikely to return due to their new policy on not taking single night bookings. We have stayed for one night many previous times but apparently they have a new policy. As parents of young children we like to get away for one night for special occasions but we will have to look elsewhere in future.

Surprise night out for my wife, staff brilliant on arrival and throughout our stay, upgraded our room which was spacious, clean and very comfortable, evening meal and breakfast very good and well presented. The only draw back was the noise from the pub/club over the road, I realise the hotel have no control over this so I would suggest a room at the back of the hotel if you like to sleep . We had room 19.

Booked a table for an evening meal. Arrived and were promised attention from a waitress. Nothing happened. Had to request service from the bar. Distracted waitress showed us to a table - no evidence of the booking we had made. Waitress was uncertain of the menu contents. Ordered "nibbles" that did not arrive. Asked for an estimate for the time between food order and possible delivery and was told twenty minutes. Walked out I'm afraid. Understaffed and poor service. I would not recommend this establishment.

Excellent, room was in very good condition we slept every well We were very impressed with the efficiency of the staff. The meal we had in the Darwin restaurant was very good. And the breakfast was very well cooked. Overall the stay was excellent.

Clean,pleasant hotel in centre of Lichfield. Staff were efficient and happy to help. Check in was quick and straightforward, and the room was perfectly adequate and clean. Reasonable price for twin room. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choice. Good free parking with plenty of pubs,restaurants right outside. Ideally for a short stay in picturesque Lichfield!

Room was on the smallish size, needed decorating (flaky paint above bath) and was very hot. They hadn't quite got their centrally controlled heating right for an April night. Only way to control the temperature was to put on the very old noisy and ineffective air conditioning unit - hence sleepless night. Not worth the £129 paid for one night, although if you find offers available the hotel is clean, central location in Lichfield, and staff were friendly. Plenty of restaurants nearby and hotel also has its own which is a bonus (didnt eat at the hotel so can't comment on quality of food provided)

We were booked to stay at The George next weekend with a large group of people. Unfortunately myself and my husband are unable to travel due to my ill health. My husband rang them on Sunday to ask if the booking for the 2 of us could be changed to a later date. We didn't want a refund so didn't see as this would be a problem. The person my husband spoke to said that they would look into the matter and call us back yesterday. No call came, so my husband rang them again this morning and was told that there was no way that they could change the booking to a later date and that they would not refund either. We shall be taking advise on the matter.

Sited in the centre of the town , local to many wine bars , pubs and a great mixture of restaurants , hotel as been upgraded from my last visit , bar and restaurant upgraded , room still bright and clean parking on site , everywhere walkable

A lovely building very well maintained. We were upgraded on our arrival to a lovely big room. Unfortunately although we needed the air conditioning it did not appear to be working and due to the windows not opening we were extremely hot! The reception staff were very courteous and helpful but we were disappointed with the attitude of the staff at breakfast. We arrived for breakfast at 9.15am-it finished at 9.30 and had just sat down to eat our cooked breakfast(self service) when we were asked mid-mouthful if we would be wanting anymore! Politely we both said probably not, whereupon it was all whipped away quickly by 9.30! We were offered a refill of coffee but we were feeling quite unwelcome by then. Saying this, we would still probably stay there again.

On Arrival we were upgraded to an Executive double room at no cost . Parked our car behind the hotel in a permit only car park . The room was nice and clean and spacious.The hotel staff were nice and nothing too much trouble .The breakfast next morning was amazing. Will definitely stay there again. First class . .

Room was comfortable and was quiet even when a function was going on. Breakfast was very good (cooked option) and the one occasion that we used the bar, the barmeal was fine. Restaurant not used. Location was excellent for central Lichfield and the Cathedral and restaurants.

My husband loved the George hotel, so it had to be the place for us to join together family and friends after his funeral. It was a lovely intimate setting, a small gathering of 30. We had a warm welcome from Tim on our return, lovely tea/coffee, sandwiches, cakes and pastries. All lovely and fresh, may I add, we also had the use of the bar, to raise a glass to my Ian. Hi We're still going to the George, all staff friendly, especially Mark Wisdom, the restaurant manager. Had another nice meal, enjoyed it. Why not try the gin night stopover, we did a few months ago, we had a nice little gift of gin, glasses and tonic, and a free gin and tonic with our meal nice and relaxing, and you don't have to worry about drink and driving.

Have just got back from the George hotel What a warm welcoming place the room was very good with all the amenities that you would expect from a larger higher grade establishment The staff were very friendly and attentive And as for Darwins the hotels restaurant Where do i start the quality of the food and service were top notch Dinner was up to a standard that should deserve an AA rosette And to top our foodie experience Breakfast was probably one of the best we have had in many a year So to be precise and to the point If you are staying in Litchfield its a no brainer Stay at the George!!!!

Stayed here, room was lovely, ate in the restaurant, very nice. On a night out so had decided to skip breakfast next morning and have a nice rare lie in. A day off work booked and looking forward to this treat. Oh no a lie in wasn't to be, was woke up by 2 cleaning staff at just gone 8am laughing loudly and talking for 15 minutes about everything and anything. They only stopped when I went out into the corridor in my nightshirt to actually see who was causing all the noise!!! They must have woke everyone up on that corridor that morning who wasn't up. Unprofessional!!! And totally ruined an otherwise nice stay. Have some consideration for your guests. Ended up checking out before 9.30. (Maybe that's the plan).

This hotel is in a good location, it has parking at the back (free) the rooms are small but clean and tidy, the hotel has a restaurant which is quite pricey but you have the option of eating in the bar which is cheaper, or you have the option of an Indian or thai restaurant over the street from the main door, we tried them both and they were worth a visit.

Had a brilliant weekend away with my wife and friends. Gin bar good, restaurant was brilliant with good food, if a little limited on choice, but good that was on offer was very good. Room 41 was brilliant and very modern, obviously recently decorated. Couldn't fault our stay.

We were fortunate to stay at the George this weekend. The hotel is set in the heart of Lichfield and handy for everything including the stunning Cathedral. We stayed in a larger than average room with a four poster bed and large well equipped bathroom. The power shower was the best we have experienced in a hotel. We were also fortunate to have booked into their restaurant (Darwins) the food was delicious and the staff friendly and well informed about the food they were serving. I would definitely book again. Thank you for making our stay such an enjoyable one.

Started to rain so decided to treat ourselves to an afternoon tea, lovely lounge, comfortable seats, very friendly and helpful staff, great selection of cakes, good pot of tea and a lovely experience. Well worth a visit.

I wanted to write this review to aid my fellow celiacs when choosing a gluten free afternoon tea. The gluten free option was very poor. 4 cakes and I use the word cakes loosely, they were 3 Mrs Crimbles branded products, one chocolate macaroon, one macaroon with a jammy centre and a Bakewell slice. The fourth was a meringue with three strawberries and a swirl of cream. There was plenty of hot tea and coffee but I would not recommend the afternoon tea.

I stayed here on 2 occasions first was awesome ..room ..staff...the lot...second time ...it's not as bad as your thinking ...my room was like a sauna. ..I lost weight in my sleep even when I turned the room heater off...the than that ...Great location ..to lots of things ...tons of places to eat ...scales round the corner is very nice and good fair prices ...I ended up in Sorrento Italian cost me £38 in the end. But work paid so......hotel breakfast is very nice ...not a complant from me...would I stay again ???? Yes I would due to so many choices and places to see and go

In short, a very disappointing visit. Insufficient staff and slow service in the main reception bar. Despite the fact that the event we attended was pre-booked and the food pre-ordered, service was painfully slow, our “pan fried whitebait” starters were cold, there was no drinks service to the table (we had to fetch our own from the poorly manned bar) and the food was generally poor quality. Shan't be rushing back.

Attended a 60th birthday function. Food was very impressive. Beautiful little spread with a gorgeous joint of beef served in a lovely venue. However very much let down by the very, very rude bar man who made buying drinks (at a price that I cannot see as justifiable) a very unpleasant experience. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable night.

The evening promised well with the ballroom and dining tables being beautifully laid out. Starters were generally good but it was the subsequent delay between this course and the dinner which was unacceptable. Not enough staff on and very average meals. The delay meant a group of people were downing their ale at a rate that would always impact later on. There was also a significant delay in the sweet being served. The food was average even disappointing. The act was good in her first half but in the second half she performed to the now rowdy rabble in the corner. Would I see her again? ....No Service good enough?. No..too slow Good Food? ..Very average.

Our room was clean, comfortable and well equipped, the location was great and the food goodand having free parking right in the centre of Lichfield was an added bonus, will definitely return and happily recommend.

We've visited The George Hotel several times and have never been disappointed. On a couple of occasions we have received an upgraded room which was a lovely surprise. The food has always been of a very high standard and with a good choice. The hotel is situated right in the middle of Lichfield town centre so you can leave your car in the car park and walk everywhere, and the staff have always been pleasant and helpful. What's not to like? We're looking forward to our next visit.

Stopped for one night in September to visit Lichfield, good hotel with city centre parking. Nice atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. Room was small and situated on the front, clean room slept well. Staff were helpful. Have booked again for a longer stay in December.

A visit to the Garrick Theatre is sometimes an excuse for an overnight stay in Lichfield and we always stay at the Garrick. A great hotel. Ideally situated with good food, nice staff and comfortable rooms.

Why would you place a 17th century Coaching Inn next to a Walkabout pub??? Shocking lack of foresight from the builders, one which they should be made to pay for... Actually, can not fault the hotel at all. As a Xmas present, my wife brought me a Red Letter Day gift of a night away from the kids and I chose my birthday weekend (birthday on the Monday, so a Saturday night away was a good start...or so we thought at the time)We were "lucky" to be given the stunning 4 poster room on the front of the hotel. Considering I was on crutches after knee surgery (something that wasn't planned when I booked), it was actually fairly easy to access and the room was massive. We had a great afternoon wandering around the town, an amazing Thai meal just over the road and a few tasty pints at the Kings Head, all within easy hobbling distance. Then we tried to get to sleep. Therein lays the problem with the aforementioned lack of planning. The narrow road was packed with people trying to get into the Walkabout pub...and screaming etc until daft o'clock in the morning. I was that young once (still mentally am) so I never complain about people enjoying themselves on weekends. Whilst you can't blame the hotel for exterior noise, I would certainly recommend trying to avoid those front facing rooms if you can, if you're staying at a weekend. We certainly will return, and take on board our own advice!! The hotel staff are all great, the breakfast was top notch, the room clean and comfortable. The nly other sight concern was parking. We just managed to squeeze into the car park, which is free for guests, but I am sure the public car park directly next to it was using it as an overflow. It certainly is a charming, welcoming place and we heartily recommend it!!

Stayed Thursday night at end of September as part of Secret escapes offer. Ideal central location for city , cathedral etc. Car park a little difficult to find. Nice friendly staff, excellent buffet breakfast. Dinner included was good value although service a little disjointed. Room fine. Would recommend and would certainly stay again if in the area.

Overall a very pleasant experience. We were entertaining friends from Scotland who enjoyed Litchfield and the daily trip into Birmingham by train.Pleasant cheerful staff and good dining facilities made all the diierence

Huge room with four poster bed. Large TV set. Very nice evening meal. Very filling breakfast, with good choice of items. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere in Darwin's. Would definitely pay a return visit.

We have just returned from another fantastic weekend in Lichfield where we stayed at The George Hotel . Exceptional hotel , well presented , reasonably priced great food & great company . We went on the gin trail which was so much fun & didn't have far to go to get back to the hotel as its right in the heart of the city .

I stayed in this hotel for just one night, but I'd have stayed more! Rooms are so old-fashion but very clean, I really appreciated the style and the kindness of staff. I'll come back for sure! Free wi-fi everywhere. Very warm, maybe too much sometimes, breakfast was good.

We had a lovely experience at the George Hotel when we had afternoon tea. There were 5 of us who wanted afternoon tea, a venue we had booked for were actually closed. So on very short notice the George accommodated us. We have a delightful experience with excellent food and service.

Several of us arrived for afternoon tea which had been booked long before. It took the staff more than half an hour past the booked time to set up. Whether they had forgotten wasn't clear. But it wasn't the best welcome. The staff were nice, but the food was uninspired. The vegetarian among us was served salmon among her sandwiches and surprise was expressed that this wasn't OK. As the only gluten free, I am used to eating strange things, but I wasn't expecting to be served 4 Mrs Crimbles cakes - I can get those at home! We had a nice time as we were among friends, but the tea really didn't come up to scratch. Truly, if you want a decent afternoon tea, go to Mackenzies. It's cheaper, and better by a country mile.

We stayed one night in an 'Executive Double room' and were very pleased to discover it had a 4 poster bed ... definitely worth paying extra! Our room was bright and airy and had recently been refurbished with modern bright decor. Alan, the hotel manager is very attentive and eager to please. The only downfall is the tight parking and lack of spaces at certain times. The hotel being central is a perfect location for exploring Lichfield in all its beauty and you MUST visit Lichfield's stunning cathedral!!!

Came with friends for afternoon tea. Lovely setting and helpful staff however afternoon tea was really poor for the price. Couple of plain boring dry sandwiches tiny bit of side lettuce. Didn't look or taste great. Cakes were ok but nothing special. Much nicer places in Lichfield for afternoon tea. However the hot food looked and smelt lovely Wouldn't rush back

We stayed with another couple for 3 nights in a superior room inclusive of evening meal at a special rate. The room was spacious but quite noises with the extractor fan out side our window plus being woken at 7am with the uploading of beer barrels. I recommend you get a room facing the front. Also the on suit had no heated towel rail for your towels and was quite cold coming out of the Shower. I would also check if you have walking impediment that your room is accessible via a lift as our room was quite a walk via stairs.

Always a warm welcome , staff well presented and helpful. Lounge and bar area very warm and relaxing.Restaurant always appear busy ,for the sports fans there is a few pubs nearby showing sky sports /bt sports. Downside is the rooms to the rear get an early wake up around 6am when the hotel gets deliveries.

We have stayed at the George several times and would always do so if within range. It is an old, traditional, comfortable hotel...lots of corridors. a fine example of an Assembly Room from and earlier age. (I performed there once when we lived in Lichfield). The food is good, a good breakfast and this time we had one of the larger rooms which was very pleasant. The location could not be better, within minutes walk of the sights and places...just great all round.

Ideally situated in the town centre with some great pubs and eateries very close by. Within walking distance to the cathedral and market square this is a nice, well presented hotel that can get very busy at times. It's restaurant Darwins is very popular and booking is highly recommended. The rooms are clean, and average sized, but may be in need of a refurb soon. If there is a downside it is that it can get quite noisy at night with the revellers from the pub opposite, but it is the town centre, so noise is to be expected. The only point that let it down for me was the buffet breakfast which was nice, but could have been warmer as too could have the plates. The staff are friendly and very helpful and the overall experience was a pleasant one, I would definitely go back!

My sister and i had a very nice one night stay here. Every thing was very good. The room very spacious and the bathroom had just been refurbished. Breakfast and dinner was tasty. Would recommend. City of Lichfield also worth a visit.

We were fortunate enough to be able to book this three night stay through Secret Escapes at an extremely good rate, not knowing what we were letting ourselves in for. We thorougly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean and the staff were extremely helpful. Breakfasts were great with choices for all tastes and we couldn't fault the portions of the two course dinner with glass of prosecco included.

We booked one of the conference rooms which served our purpose very well. The bedroom was nice and the food and service very good throughout. Parking is limited to about 40 spaces. The hotel is very convenient for the town centre and you can walk 5 mins to a local park which is a good route to run around.

Had a long weekend here, One of the best hotels we have stayed in. Very clean hotel, good size bedroom. Very helpful & friendly staff. One of the best free wifi we have used.Great choice of breakfast.We had two evening meals good choice and fresh ingredients. Very professional restaurant manager. Free parking. There were a number of events on but we heard no noise from these. We would stay again.

For our reunion we wanted a friendly, informal hotel that could accommodate our comings and goings. The George fitted the bill.It'san old coaching inn in the centre of town with good parking and a large meeting area inside. There's a bar and a dining area which acts as a carvery at lunch time and a restaurant in the evening.Several different menus gave us a good choice at reasonable prices. Breakfast was particularly enjoyable and tasty A fun part of the day was trying to find your room along the maze of corridors Bedrooms and bathrooms are an adequate size, very cleanand with good storage for the short time we were there. We slept well. Staff were friendly and helpful,always smiling,ready for a joke or with information about the town. We really enjoyed our three days there and look forward to meeting there again.

We booked a Superior room on a DBB rate with Secret Escapes and it was excellent value for money. The hotel is well situated in the centre of Lichfield, with limited parking at the rear, (we got parked fine but there was a function on later and the car park filled up quickly). it is old and full of character. Our room was large and very comfortable with a small but newly refurbished bathroom. The restaurant also looked newly refurbished and we had a very good meal there, with attentive and friendly service too. Only very slight issue was that the lady on reception when we checked in didn't tell us that there was a lift and also didn't take a credit card for additional costs, so when we tried to order drinks and charge them to the room we couldn't initially do this. The hotel exceeded our expectations and we would stay here again.

We stayed at the George at short notice. The bar is good and the beer (real ale) is excellent. The breakfasts are very good and fresh. The rooms are comfortable. If you want a drink when the bar is closed then the night porter is very happy to help.

Great location in pedestrian area of the city center close to the cathedral, lovely walk around a small lake. Parking is very tight and crowded, sometime we got the last parking space. Beautiful old hotel with surprisingly big rooms, it is old so do not expect modern layout with no steps. The elevator is small but adequate.

4th time we have stayed there. Room on second floor. Clean and comfortable. Good parking facilities. City centre easily accessible. Slightly noist late evning from nearby bars but only to be expected. Dining room has changed since last visit and sorry the carvery is no longer there. Overall, a good place to stay.

Booked this hotel through secret escapes for one night in a superior room. We checked in with no problems at all and made our way to our room. We were pleasantly surprised to find we had been given a large, four poster room with additional extras! Lovely bed, great sized room, complimentary chocolates, beams etc The room was across from wallkabout and we experienced no noise whatsoever and the window was open. Air con worked fine, the staff friendly, clean and tidy hotel (stayed in worse 4* hotels) great breakfast included. Lovely stay which exceeded our expectations.... thank you ??

I would have been upset if I had to spend more than one night here. Although dated (this generally does not bother me) the air con did not work on a very hot night. The room for £106 was incredibly small and I think very over priced indeed considering the star rating of the hotel. For that amount of money I'd expect a refurbished room at least. Also I'd like a room that does not smell from smoke (not caused by someone smoking in the room but having to keep the room window open whilst being in close proximity to the smoking area) :( I guess the air con would have been handy. The room was found after entering a rickety lift that seemed to take forever to reach the floor. The bathroom was dated - took ages to run hot water both evening and morning. WiFi was fine and worked ok. Breakfast was likely the best part. I was early - the night porter was incredibly charming and helpful and I'd say the best part of the stay. This guy really went out of his way to get me coffee (he did not have to) and was helpful and efficient too on my check out. If I could guarantee a better room next time I'd book - Approach with Caution

This is a lovely “old fashioned” hotel with plenty of character (unlike the majority of hotels today). The room was quaint with lots of exposed beams, comfy bed, mini bar, desk, etc.… everything you would expect. Staff friendly, lovely dining room and fantastic breakfast. I would definitely go back here again rather than to one of the soulless hotel chains that seem to be everywhere these days!

We had a party booking here as a set meal. The soup came out and we all sat waiting for the bread rolls .Side plates were set out and butter on the table. Guess what ! We had to pay for a bread roll. Never in my years of eating out has anyone had to pay for a bread roll with soup. We all sat stunned by this statement. The main course came out which was chicken. This was old not overcooked just old with no flavour. The veg was mixed up in a bowl. Very uninspiring. So I had the cheeseboard as the end to the meal. Laughably there was a cheese knife on the board.no wedges of cheese but the thinnest slices they could have cut. You could almost see the board through them. Needless to say we wont be going back there again.

We arrived on Friday evening after arranging a one night stay through Secret Escapes. The room was a superior double (room 20) on the second floor overlooking the street. It was spacious and well decorated and at first glance appeared ideal. My wife commented on a musty smell, which on opening the bathroom door was very bad. There was a blockage in the bath drain with a strong and very unpleasant smell. No apologies from reception, but they did send someone up very quickly. After the application of a very strong drain fluid the problem appeared solved but we noticed that the bath took a long time to drain. A second man arrived this time Andrew an assistant manager. He offered us another room, but only a standard double, the only one left apparently. We were taken to see the room at the rear of the hotel, which was smaller and a little gloomy and stuffy, so we opted to stay in room 20. This was a mistake as it turned out. At dinner we appreciated the offer of a free bottle of wine for our inconvenience. The two course meal included as part of the Escapes deal was good and we enjoyed our meal. On returning to the room there was noise and loud music coming from the Walkabout bar across the street. We managed to get to sleep at first but were woken by rowdiness and increased volume of music at 1 am. A quick check on the internet revealed the bar was open till 3am on Friday and Saturday and sleep became impossible until after the bar closed. Whilst we were awake as the loud booming music and rowdiness continued we checked the internet for previous reviews which revealed the same problem going back to 2014 when the management replied to one reviewer by saying they were working with the local council to solve the issue. Two years later it seems they failed. We complained to reception on checkout but did not get an apology or an explanation as to why they would let out a room knowing there was a serious noise problem. Daniel on reception stated that it was a rare event as the club was restricted to a certain level of noise. Our scanning of reviews seems to contradict this statement (8th and 3rd Sept to name but 2 recent reviews). We found Daniel's response unsympathetic and defensive and we had to ask 3 times for their complaints procedure. We were given an email address by Daniel for the general manager at The George. We had a dreadful night and felt exhausted the next day which spoilt our enjoyment. Our recommendation is to avoid street facing rooms on Friday and Saturday.

Wonderful hotel room, spacious and comfortable with comfy four poster bed. It was actually a small suite, with separate seating area and a very well appointed bath room. It was spotless! The staff was first class, all helpful and friendly. Andrew, the bar steward, is excellent and takes a real pride in his job. Breakfast was well organised with replenishment of dishes at the breakfast buffet, waitresses were attentive and friendly. Our only minor complaint is that catering for bar meals is hit and miss, depending on how busy the rest of the hotel is with functions. After two bar meals, we then opted to eat out and did not use Darwins, so cannot comment on the restaurant food. As a lovely, convenient place to stay and visit the National Memorial Arboretum, it was first class.

Do not rely on it being free parking I have just received a parking fine for 2 hour disabled parking with a badge. After an afternoon tea that I would not recommend this was the icing on the very poor cake

This hotel is very good and central for the city. The staff are very helpful. We had an upgraded room with a four-poster bed which was very comfortable only downside is the room was on the top floor / roof area. Food was very good

Visited for Afternoon Tea with the girls - for what you pay, you can't really complain, but if you are looking for a sophisticated Afternoon Tea experience then I wouldn't recommend The George. But as I say, the price you pay is spot on for what you receive for a casual experience. It would be a better experience if they at least upgraded the tea to loose leaf tea.

From the minute we arrived on a buyagift voucher the service we received was outstanding. Friendly reception staff upgraded us to a four poster spacious room. The hotel has the feel of a boutique hotel. We ate in the dining room and were not disappointed. Outstanding food. Nothing was. too much trouble for all serving staff. Breakfast of a high quality and food cooked to oreder. Thank you.

Sadly this hotel is let down by its position. Staff were great and very professional but the room we had was opposite a newly constructed Walkabout which on both nights we stayed, Saturday and Sunday, had music and people blaring until the early hours of the morning. Such a shame the council agreed to have the club built there as the hotel is ideally positioned for all the local attractions. Would recommend Lichfield but sadly not the hotel to stay. The restaurant was great food and great staff. Shame.

The George is a very nice and atmospheric old coaching inn in the heart of Lichfield. We were recently guests at a wedding and booked a room for the night. It was well presented, spacious and very comfortable - a great night's sleep in fact. Breakfast was included in our tariff and was extremely wholesome and filling! The staff were very helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. It all made for a very pleasant stay indeed - we will definitely return at some point!

Our room was very small and stuffy and unfortunately we could not open window. As we have stayed at the George before several times we did feel that this was the poorest room we have ever had. Breakfast was the poorest we have ever had and there was no eggs and a guest asked for eggs only one was brought out of the kitchen although there were many guests waiting for breakfast and it was well within the breakfast time. Scrambled eggs were not available either.

The hotel was very nice and clean and decor good. Unfortunately our air conditioning unit in the family bedroom was broken and as we were at the top of the hotel on a warm couple of days it was uncomfortable at night. I We thought there should have been a childrens evening menu but buffet breakfast was very good. We would return again as I think we were unfortunate with the air conditioning.

We arrived very late in the day it was a little difficult working out where the car park was, but once that was worked out and we got into the hotel the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a lovely surprise with an additional sitting room.

Spent two nights at The George recently on holiday. Very pleased indeed with the hotel. All facilities and arrangements entirely satisfactory. Staff were particularly good, extremely professional and helpful, and also very warm and welcoming. Hotel strongly recommended.

paid £119 for two nights room dark and ginger overlooking a side yard.bar staff not very well trained didn't seemed to know what was what,had to wait on a couple of occasions for someone to come in and serve.woulnt have paid full price.but breakfast good and plenty of variety

Stayed here with several friends. Breakfasts were good but the continental version did not include any meat or cheese. Dinner was moderate to large portions and some dishes were better than others. Turkey escalopes nice, rice pudding disastrous. Some staff very good, others not up to standard expected. Property has a nice ambience and is situated very conveniently for the city centre. Car park is rather exposed to public view and adjacent to the public car park. Coaches can only get within 100 yards (in the public car park). Rooms are very varied, may not have an opening window; heavy duvets can be replaced by sheets and blankets on request. Superior rooms may contain 4-poster beds (these are high to scramble in and out of!)

Stopped here on Saturday night meeting friends,the hotel is an average one nothing special a little dated,room a little small but did the job for one night,breakfast was very good lots of choice and very fresh,my only complaint would be they need to leave more milk cartons in the room only enough for one drink unless you like black coffee

Whenever I go to Lichfield I always have my lunch at the Lounge Bar at the George. The menu choices are very varied and there are always specials available too. The food is always freshly made and very tasty. I must say the chips are the best highlight. They are some of the best chips that I have ever had and I always order them as a side order. I tend to have one of the sandwiches when I go and the fillings are always generous. The staff are always friendly. Keep it up Lounge Bar!

Generally ok. Although was not happy that I wasn't told that the room I was given looked out onto the high street. A very loud and noisy bar/club is right opposite. Closing time is 2.30am. High level of noise made it impossible to sleep until well after 3am. When complained to reception the morning after and suggested that residents should be told about that I hardly received a flicker of response. No apology. Just an "Oh" - can't believe that's the first time this has been an issue. I suspect weekdays are ok; weekends - avoid street facing rooms.

The loveliest person (Abbie Horton), helped me with all the questions that I needed answers for! Very polite and was very enthusiastic about what events was coming up! Great conversation and I cannot vault her! Great service! Will be staying with my wife and friends for Lola Lamore night! She sorted me out with accommodation! Was only meant to stay for the dinner! Stayed one night after attending a wedding, asked for and got a quiet room, difficult to find (lift to the 1st floor, across a hallway, down a corridor, up some stairs, down two more corridors!!) and you will get to room 41. Not for people with mobility problems. Newly refurbished, a very nice room, very clean and comfortable, more like a suite than a bedroom. Great toiletries, chocolates and complimentary water, a really comfortable stay apart from the temperature as the air conditioning unit didn't work, small bathroom with a shower only. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice,coffee could have been nicer though. Parking and WiFi was free.

My wife and I called in at The George to ask if Afternoon Tea was still available when we recently visited Lichfield. What a pleasant surprise we had from the moment we arrived. The young lady who met us was so pleasant and accommodating in dealing with our request that we immediately felt welcome. We were thankful that the service was still available and duly ordered a Full Afternoon Tea. We were very pleased with both the quality and quantity of the food that was brought to us and the service was great. At £10.00 per head we were extremely pleased that we called in and will most certainly be going again. Thumbs up from us, well done.

Four of us went for a meal in July, excellent starters, main course was very good, the 2 of us had Steak, which was cooked to our liking, medium, with the juices running out when you cut into it. My wife & I returned last weekend, August 20th, table booked for 18-00. We arrived early so that we could have a drink in the Lounge, whilst we studied the Menu. We both opted for the Crispy Duck for starters, & both of us decided to have the 10oz Rump Steak. When I order a Steak meal, I expect to receive ONE piece of steak. When our meals arrived, we both had 2 pieces of steak on our plates! They were wafer thin luke warm & appeared cremated. They well & truly over cooked, no sign of any juices on the plate, before or after cutting into them. I complained to Mark, the Head Waiter, he said he would go & have a word with the Chef. When he returned, all he said was sorry! Also , it was 19-00 when our main course arrived, we were the 1st couple to sit down in the Dining area,other couples came in after we did, & had their meals before us. He came back a 2nd time & said we could send it back.Talk about shutting the stable door! ! ! We probably would have waited another hour. I just replied that I would persevere with the meal, but vowed that it was a customer lost.

We had booked our overnight stay for a night in July at The George in January. We wanted to break our journey home from the Lakes to Hampshire. I had asked when booking if there was disabled parking on site and was told there was. So I was less than pleased to find on arrival that not only were the few disabled spaces already taken but also, because two weddings were taking place at the hotel, the rest of the car park was absolutely crammed full. It was only because we met a very helpful senior member of the hotel staff quite by accident that we were "shoe horned" into a corner. However, once inside, the hotel was very pleasant indeed and we were warmly and professionally greeted by Polly at Reception. We were given directions to our room on the second floor, accessible via a lift. Ours was superior room No 23 as it was apparently the only one with a walk in shower which I must have because of my disability. It was a lovely, bright, fresh room, very well appointed and seemingly quite recently refurbished and spotlessly clean. The bathroom too, with the requested shower cabinet, was excellent. There was also a separate snug with its own TV and sofa. We had been concerned with the wedding parties in the hotel (and there did seem to be a lot of people, quite understandably, enjoying themselves) that we might be disturbed that night by disco noise etc. But we didn't hear a thing and slept very soundly indeed in very comfortable beds. Earlier in the evening we took advantage of the fact that we wouldn't be driving again until the next day and went to the bar. My wife found a very good selection of wines and I found a truly amazing two page gin menu! However, our next disappointment was the in-house Darwin's Restaurant where we had also booked a table in January. It was obviously very popular but unfortunately we didn't find the menu very appealing. A matter of personal taste perhaps. But we did wish we had instead gone to one of the many restaurants offering different cuisines literally right on the doorstep. The buffet breakfast, on the other hand, was excellent offering a very wide and comprehensive choice of hot and cold dishes. And the staff were always cheerful, helpful and courteous. We left feeling refreshed and ready for the next half of our journey home!

I stayed here by accident... booked a room on a night out in Birmingham as I headed to Lichfield (for the night after so had to find somewhere else to stay) But I went back the night after to just chill out. Good location, free parking and the staff are very friendly here. The place is slightly outdated but I had a good sleep, no disturbances and just a peaceful night. Enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone travelling to the area.

The George was an excellent place to stay to complete the Real Ale Trail . We booked a superior room and on arrival discovered we had a four poster bed with a seperate dressing room area. The staff were really friendly , breakfast was excellent and we absolutely loved our stay here . So much so we have decided to try to book to go back and take our friends with us .

We were given a superior room on arrival to the hotel which was lovely,spacious & immaculately presented.The meal in the restaurant that evening was ok,but it appeared disorganised with people waiting a long time for their meal & having to ask for things like water jugs more than once,even though the restaurant was vertually empty when we arrived. My husband enjoyed his meal of lamb shank,however my salmon was very dry & missing the tempura vegetables as advertised. Breakfast was fine & to be honest it was a good night away for a bargain price.

The George Hotel was an excellent Hotel to explore this wonderful city. Centrally positioned, with a lovely clean comfortable room. We only had bed & breakfast but dining room and menu looked worth trying. Would definitely stay again if ever in that area.

Had a very nice room in this older hotel. Bed was very comfortable and the room was larger than what I had come to expect outside of the more modern chains. Breakfast was very nice with a large selection of foods. What I liked most was the location... easy to walk to dozens of restaurants... unfortunately area shopping is not very convenient to business travelers. Everything opens after 8:30AM and closes by 5:30PM...

The day and evening were one of the hottest days in July and we were attending a wedding which took place in the hotel. The ballroom was beautiful and the air conditioning was an added bonus as it kept the whole day at a perfect temperature. Unfortunately although the bedroom was beautiful the air conditioning was set a temperature which was far too high and could not be reduced. The room was at the top under the roof and the heat was awful. Even with a fan on as well as the air con it was awful. The windows only opened a certain amount and you had to have the blinds down as the room looked into other rooms opposite. Getting ready in the evening was a torment because of the heat in the room and sleeping proved to be difficult also. The breakfast was lovely and the added extras in the room were well received.

Great hotel, was lucky to be given a free upgrade. All the staff members are friendly and give good service. My room was very clean, had all the facilities I required and the bed was really comfortable. Food and service for my evening meal was excellent and reasonably priced if you went for a two or three course deal. Breakfast was good too. Will definitely stay again.

We stayed here for one night on our way home from a Yorkshire. Our room was small for very clean and comfortable. The bed was excellent and we both slept well, we enjoyed our stay. The Hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. We stayed with a Groupon Offer which included the evening meal. The food was excellent. Obviously a very good Chef. We also were given tickets for Twycross Zoo. We had a great time there. The only small grumble was that the room and bathroom although clean as already stated, had a musty smell. We mentioned this to one of the housekeepers next morning. We would like to return in the future.

Duty manager not very customer focused on arrival, made us feel at fault over a misunderstanding over payment between the hotel and Vauxhall regarding our "free hotel stay, test drive an Astra" booking, not a good start to our stay! On first inspection Room 36 was a small but adequate double room overlooking a side alley. Unfortunately the alley is used as a short cut to the public car park by drinkers till 3.30am. The room had a Single glazed window,and we realised mid evening it had broken airconditioning,and so was an extremely hot room when the window was closed to keep out the noise. Shower ran cold after 2 minutes and we could not get any further warm water. Beverage tray sparsely stocked with only 1 hot chocolate and 1 packet of biscuits and not much milk for two. At a rate of £96 for room only,it was not good value for money. Impossible to sleep until pubs shut at 3am and delivery van outside woke us up before 7am.Realise it is a central city hotel but have stayed in many central hotels in past without such issues. Breakfast at £6.50 each was plentiful and staff in the morning pleasant enough, but by this time we just wanted to get out of the hotel ASAP. Room 36 - Hot uncomfortable noisy room,best avoided if you want any sleep!!! Sure there are better rooms at the hotel but will not be risking a stay here again!

The perfect spot for a city centre hotel, leave your car and explore cathedral, museums, shops and market. The National Memorial Arboretum is just six miles away and well worth a visit, a very moving experience.

We have been planning a trip to Lichfield for a long time but it always proved difficult to arrange, we have now been and stayed overnight the hotel was lovely, it was a really good deal the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Dinner was excellent, all in all super. We will be staying again before Christmas.

Lovely setting for this hotel, Lichfield is a quiet but yet active village where we occupied our time going to Becon Park and Drayton Manor. Hotel is, on the outside, a quaint Tudor style building. Inside it matches this theme with a modern twist. Our family room had a double bed and 2 folding out sofa single beds, with a to in the children's part of room and our part. Ideal for when winding down in evening as it meant kids tv was off and we could have our to in without disrupting them! Room was very tastefully decorated and plent of mod cons. Would love to return, although would hope air conditioning a bit more effective in future. Room was very hot and retained heat despite conditioning which appeared not to make any difference.

Always have a great time here. The room we have is ideal for my disabled husband and myself as it has a good size walk in shower. Breakfast is always great with good quality food. We have enjoyed the carvery lunches. Apart from short breaks here, we also spent last Christmas at the George. It was lovely and Christmassy. The hotel is a very short walking distance from the cathedral and also the shops.

Great hotel, location excellent, food fabulous, drinks..bit pricey but loads of pubs to choose from on the door step room was typical hotel room but sadly we couldn't open the window so i found it hard to sleep as no fresh air but that's just me... only fault we had was with reception staff, bit rude at one point and not very helpful with questions we had about our stay. Other than that we had wonderful few nights stay .

Very comfortable hotel. Pleasant helpful staff. We have stayed at the George a few times and would not hesitate to recommend it. One very slight annoyance is the issue of parking when there are events on in the evenings. Apart from that, excellent.

Arrived very tired and hungry after a day out, only to be greeted by a loud reception happening in the conference area. This didn't really bother us - it's a wedding after all so you would expect there to be guests and music, it was the lack of presence from reception for a good 10 minutes which we were frustrated by. Exhausted, we trawled to our room - perhaps being spoilt by the Hilton down the road at St. James park we were disappointed to be greeted by a boxy, dated room facing the Main Street which unfortunately meant we had to listen to the slurred chants of drunken, litchfield yobs until the early hours! If you're looking for a place to literally get your head down for the night then this could be for you, however the hotel isn't good value for money and we certainly wouldn't recommend it to others.

This was my first visit to Lichfield and first time at The George, but the friend I was with has already booked to go back. We had a great Travelzoo deal for one night's accommodation including a meal and a glass of Prosecco, and Lichfield itself was very picturesque. There was loads to do and see. The hotel was great. All together a lovely two days away.

We booked this through secret escapes, got an awesome deal where we got dinner and prosecco every evening and breakfast in the mornings! We booked this as part of our 2 day trip to Alton Towers which is around 45 minutes away. I don't know how new the deal was, but the staff didn't seem 100% sure what it included until we asked on our second night - but after that it was plain sailing and the staff were super friendly and helpful. We didn't realise we got a glass of prosecco each night, so on the second night the waiter delivered it to our bedroom which we thought was a very nice touch and felt very luxurious! The dinner menu has a good selection, the chickpea and butternut squash curry was delicious, and the French onion soup to start was also great. They have an extensive wine list and the waiters all seem fairly clued up as to which ones are the nicest! The breakfast is fab - a great selection of hot food and there's cereals, yoghurts and fruit which was a nice variety as we were there for 3 nights. The room was perfect for 2 - the bed was lovely and big and comfortable, we got robes and slippers, a little box of chocolates, lots of different types of tea and coffee with a kettle etc, and the bathroom was nice and clean and modern. They offer free parking which is a massive bonus, although we did struggle to get a space on one of the nights as there was an event on in the restaurant! But there is a huge public car park next door which we didn't mind paying for a couple of hours. We had read some reviews saying that there was a lot of noise out the front - our room was right out at the front of the hotel opposite a pub, and we didn't really hear any noise or disturbance at all. That being said we did stay Sunday - Wednesday so I couldn't comment on the weekends! I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to stay in the area - unfortunately we didn't do too much local touristy things as we were exhausted from the theme park but we couldn't really fault the Hotel and it was so much better than staying in a travel lodge for nearly the same price! Would definitely like to go back and see more of Lichfield next time.

What a great find. The George is centrally located in Lichfield, with all main attractions just minutes away on foot. Parking easy and reception hugely helpful. Rooms were good, well appointed, spotless and with air conditioning - great as the background temperature was quite hot. Nice bar with gin as the main feature. Cooked breakfast delicious, with toast and poached eggs done to order. Christoph and Catherine stood out for their friendly and efficient service. Many thanks, will be back if passing through Lichfield again.

Attracted to voucher deal as Lichfield has family history connections and wanted to find a couple of places. Email contact from hotel confirming booking and from restaurant confirming dining time. Hotel in centre of town but has a reasonable size car park. Very handy for attractions including Cathedral - less than 10 mins walk. Reception was efficient. Room on second floor (lift available) was large, well decorated and characterful with beams and small sitting area, Bathroom was modern and clean and plenty of hot water. Service in 'Darwin's' was very good as was the food in the evening. Breakfast was buffet style but plenty of choice and good quality. Really could not find anything untoward and would definitely stay there again.

The George represents real value for money.Excellent food,friendly and helpful staff who are most welcoming to guests. The hotel is spotlessly clean and is an ideal location to explore the historic city of Lichfield, There are many special deals available giving you a wide range of options for meals,accommodation or special group bookings.

Booked two rooms. One room the air conditioning didn't work. Complained to staff twice who promised someone would be up. Nobody ever came. Constant noise of shouting and screaming from drunks throughout the night until around 4am. Windows not sound proof at all. Shower would only run scalding hot. Spent nearly £500 and got two tiny rooms. Room next to us flooded at 2am and walls are like paper so got to listen to the staff remonstrating loudly with next room. Avoid. Try the premier inn down the road.

The superior room was clean and well equipped. The members of staff were polite and friendly, particularly the housekeeping staff.The food in Darwin's restaurant was lovely and well presented. Overall a pleasant experience.

Location is excellent staff very friendly and helpful , even before arrival when asked advice . Room was a bit cramped and dark , but very clean . Darwins resturant breakfast excellent very wide choice again staff helpful . Had one evening meal found chicken a little tough , but overall meal was ok Parking is acceptable first come first served Will book for next year

If you want a central location (it is right amongst the bars and restaurants which have a very sophisticated vibe ) with a reasonable price this is the place for you. The staff are very attentive and efficient and the hotel is clean well maintained and has a very comfortable feel about it I had a single room which I could find no fault with. I did not eat in the evening but the breakfast was a very nice buffet style and with a well maintained offering the staff were efficient and attentive. Parking on arrival was limited but with patience I got a spot an adjacent shoppers car park was also very full I believe there is a new multi story close by for alternative use wasn't made aware of this by reception perhaps a point to pick up on.

Four couples stayed on a Saturday evening we were booked in for Dinner ,bed and breakfast. Could fault hotel really, excellent value, great food and a beautiful hotel with lots of character. Only thing I would say waiting staff at dinner were a little unfriendly and un welcoming apart from one dark headed girl with glasses she was v warm. Now oh my life rooms at front of hotel were a night mare , we hardly had a wink of sleep till about 3:30am the the bars in the street were so so noisy and v rowdy, the locals were party animals to say the least. This must be a nightmare for this Hotel as it made our experience quite unpleasant and tiring thr next day, this is no reflection on Hotel, just maybe get local council involved in the time the bar across the way closes (3am) and police presence on kicking out time to control locals. Next time a room round back for us. Lichfield is a lovely town, wurh a great selection of shops.

Stayed at the the george just for 1 night on a secret escapes deal ... £100 for a 2 course meal with a glass of prosecco and bed and breakfast. . Have to say we were very pleased with everything ... the room was a nice big room with a very comfortable huge bed was a bit dated as far as the decor was concerned but very clean and comfortable.... the bathroom looked like it had had a refurbished and was absolutely lovely ...the meal was great couldn't complain at all and breakfast was buffet style but again excellent. .. the staff at the hotel was absolutely lovely very happy and helpful ... the hotel itself is located perfectly in the centre of lichfield with all the pubs restaurants shops within seconds on foot .. we had a lovely night and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone ..

I booked an afternoon tea for two people, the traditional tea is priced at £10pp. The hotel is on the high street and we were seated in the window in a lovely bright restaurant. The afternoon tea arrived with an array of cakes and sandwiches and a large pot of tea, you could also choose coffee. We enjoyed egg mayonnaise and turkey and cranberry sandwiches. There was also smoked salmon sandwiches but neither of us like smoked salmon so I asked to change them. This was no problem at all and the staff asked what we would prefer, we opted for more turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches as these had a thick slice of turkey and a delicious cranberry sauce. Then it was time for the cakes, fruit scone each with clotted cream and strawberry jam which were very substantial. We followed this with a delicious slice each of lemon drizzle cake and then enjoyed ginger/maple syrup cake and gooey chocolate fudge slices. We asked for another pot of tea which arrived quickly. The afternoon tea was excellent value, at no point were we rushed to finish and spent a good hour at the hotel. When the bill came it was a bargain £20. We had a lovely time and I will definitely return.

Good location, older staff extreemly helpfull but younger staff need a lot of training. Breakfast is very very poor . The staff were most unhelpfull and had to be asked to clean the table before setting it up. The food selection was not great and totally dried out from sitting under heat lamps. There was no bread selection just toast and crustu croissants!!!! The teapots were filthy and in need of replacing or a long soak in some form of cleaner. As with the George it is a noisey hotel and an old hotel. It suited our brief stay as only hotel in the centre of Lichfield where we had to be based for our visit. It could be a super place if it was cleaned up a bit and staff need a bit more training.

We stayed at the George for one night we had lovely big ,clean comfortable bedroom had a lovely buffet breakfast the following morning hotel very close to shops & restaurants & cathedral ,all the staff lovely but gentleman on reception could be a little more friendly but he was polite

The George Hotel is clean and well positioned. It seems as it was renovated recently. The staff seemed a bit confused and not every member was friendly. Overall an ok experience. It does offer free parking. Just be careful to check whether breakfast is included or not.

Having joined Best Western Rewards about 15 months ago and collected points we discovered last week we had accrued enough points to book a free night away! So on a sudden impulse I chose The George. We have never been to Lichfield plus it was close to the National Memorial Arboretum where we had always wanted to visit. Rang the reservation centre - not knowing how to do this ! Spoke to BEA - she was so friendly, laughed with me, advised me and helped me through the process ! Saturday 9th July overnight stay booked - only had to pay for breakfast ! Sounds good to Me ! Then bless her sends a wonderful card and complimentary bottle of wine to the room for our arrival ! Hope her boss is taking note of her excellent customer service ! (Thank you Bea we had a lovely time x) The hotel was lovely, staff friendly, room air conditioned, breakfast was varied and wifi was so easy. They were very busy as there was a wedding on and many stayed over night - but this never affected the service we received ! Location - on the main road with all the restaurants and bars. In fact the restaurant we chose after reading trip advisor was the Rainbow Thai - had to smile it was probably ten steps from our hotel entrance ! Can see why it is so highly rated ! We also tried La Reve, cocktail bar on the same road / mmm coconut dacquri !!! Lichfield lovely - well worth a visit ! But must also mention on the Sunday we drove - 15 mins to the National Memorial Arboretum - humbling and well Worth a visit ! Thank you Best Western / another excellent short couples break ! Looking forward to our next ! Through joining you we are travelling to locations throughout the country to have short breaks from work and being carers of grandson and ageing mother with Alzheimer's /and discovering the wonderful towns and cities of the U.K. Although we are also hoping to try your hotels abroad ! The rooms were clean and comfortable, some fitted with air conditioning units which should be switched on if the room is hot, food was delivered to the table hot and very nice, The staff were very helpful, polite, and smart. only problem was connecting to the internet.

The room I have stayed in is clearly one that needs updating - the décor reminded me of houses that hit the headlines for not being touched since the 50/60's. This, however, can be overlooked as it fits in to the style of the property itself. What cannot be overlooked is the fact they put two single mattresses on a divan base and are passing it off as a double! To me that is disgraceful, had I realised this when I took the room I would have requested a change but as I was in bed around 12am it was too late to do anything. A point worth noting and double (no pun intended) checking. I did make staff aware when I left and this was the first time in the history of the hotel anyone has mentioned this 'as the singles butt up together very well'......Grrrrrrr Another point to note - its worth closing the window before sleeping if you don't fancy being woken up at 4am to go and shut it due to the rattling sound it makes........then not getting back to sleep due to the 2 singles coming apart......take some time to check it out.........yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn

Our prom at The George hotel was amazing! Thanks to many staff members at The George our prom was a huge success as they catered for our every need, were polite, helpful, ensured we enjoyed our experience and that the ideas we developed could be easily implicated into their lovely venue. Would definitely recommend for an event if you're looking for a perfect, elegant venue that's allows you to party! Thanks so much!

Staff were welcoming and helpful. Food was delicious and restaurant staff efficient and attentive. Thought the prices were reasonable.. Large glass of red £5.40. Room was clean and comfortable. Would recommend this as a base for visiting the area. We visited the cathedral and travelled out to the National Memorial Arboretum

Have stayed at this Hotel on numerous occasions over the past few years, recently we have found ourselves in a position that we needed to spend more time locally to Lichfield and obviously as a Best Western member the George seemed ideal. Big mistake, our first visit was a walk in and was told by reception to ring direct for their best deals, this we have done over the last few weeks when staying one or two nights only to find they would not match the Internet, so we booked via the web, then when we arrived we were given a short rift and a diabolical room...the staff are so far up their own backsides they make you feel inferior, this needs sorting out...pronto...!

The hotel is in a lovely central location, comfortable room and pleasant staff. We stayed in a superior room which was lovely. Breakfast was also lovely. Would defiantly recommend and plan to return again soon.

My wife and I spent a Saturday night at the hotel after dropping my daughter off as friends. Bit of a spare of the moment decision. Really enjoyed my stay , hotel was lovely. We had a good size room with ensuite facilities. Hotel situated at the heart of Lichfield easy access to all the sites.

Hotel and food excellent but the room we had was very poor. The room was very small and dark with a view of a wall could not even see the sky, the windows both in the room and bathroom could not be opened for safety reasons?.

We came to The George, Lichfield for a Regency event. It was a short, easy walk from the train station (yes, even with our enormous ball gown and frock coat filled suitcases) and in a wonderful, central, safe location. We could quickly walk all around town from the hotel to every sort of restaurant, park and museum. Our room was very pretty, spotless and spacious enough for two. There is a lift. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful, even when things got busy. There is a computer for guest's use on the ground floor. Breakfast was okay. The restaurant room was lovely but the buffet got a bit depleted at times (for vegetarians). Choices varied from day to day. We had a late supper in the bar one evening and it was very relaxing. The event we attended was in the hotel in a gorgeous room, so it was a real joy just to walk our sore, dancing feet down the hall and around the corner to flop into bed. The hotel is beautiful and retains a lot of period charm. The staff truly make you feel welcome. We would absolutely want to stay here again when in Lichfield.

Upon arrival we were 'greeted' by a very ill mannered chap, who signed us in after many a moment on the telephone. We proceeded to walk into a darkening labyrinth of hallways plastered in carpeted tapestries of a sinister kind. This theme continued into room 41, in which we found to our delight later that very night. After eating at the local Chinese (Lichfield House - which we must say was utterly fabulous) and getting sodden down to my long John's in the pouring rain, we reached the hotel. We proceeded into our room to sleep off the food we had just eaten prior, but we were awoken to a very eerie sound emanating from the lavatory. My wife was terrified at such a sound, so I proceeded to scout the lavatory. To my horror, a loft hatch was open and a mysterious ghostly apparition clambered out in front of my eyes. This fellow was similar in that to a man pictured on a painting further on down the hallway. I shouted and stumbled backwards onto the, which I must say was remarkably comfortable, bed. Me and my loving wife sat in sheer horror as the mysterious man devoured all that lay in the mini fridge, including all but a few bottles of alcohol. He left abruptly as we screamed at him to leave, and were left stunned and pale faced. The next morning on our very quick way out, we were charged for the mini fridge raid conducted by the apparition. 40 of the Queens sterling to be precise. Stay away from the dreaded room 41. Or maybe just avoid this hotel altogether.

A great stay at this beautiful hotel. Check in fast and professional. Room very clean. Comfortable. With air con. En suite. Nice view of the courtyard. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with everything you could want. Happy smiling staff. Especially the receptionist who go that extra mile to help. Can't wait to get back here.

On the plus side: the hotel's location is very central, free parking at the back - entry through the public car park,the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly, the breakfasts (of the standard buffet type) were wonderful. But the big minus are the squeaky floorboards. The first room we had, at the side of the hotel by the alleyway from the car park, suffered enormously every time people in the room above moved around their room. We asked for a move which they accommodated to the other end of the hotel which we were assured did not suffer from that noise. But it did! It was not as bad but it was there. So I guess the lesson learnt is to seek a 2nd floor room, at least there will be no one walking around above you. But don't let this review put you off a very good hotel in a lovely little city.

Started to book a room on Saturday for the coming Monday but they had IT problems and it took around five telephone calls on the Monday to ensure I had a room. This Hotel is based in perfect spot in the town, everything you require is based around it within walking distance. Shops, bars restaurants and don't forget the local history. I have stayed a number of times but its been a while and I could see the changes the hotel has made and is making. This hotel has always been to a good standard but you can see how they are spending money to make it better. The only down side is with it being so good it gets booked quickly so you need to plan well a head.

A really good hotel. After reading previous reviews about noise, we requested a room on the back of the hotel and enjoyed a peaceful night. We were 2 floors up and the room was clean and spacious - very modern. Only slight grumble would be that the hotel in general was very warm, and our aircon in our room seemed to make no difference.....but we'd definitely recommend/return to the hotel. Thanks for a pleasant stay!

Stayed in June 16 for 4 nights, Room was ample and clean, bed was comfortable, the bar was relaxed and served meals. Overall the stay was a pleasure the free parking is a definite advantage; the hotel fronts onto the pedestrian zone this area has several excellent places to eat I would say every taste is covered. The staff were friendly and helpful if a little short on numbers, the only negative was using the shower over the bath. The side of the bath was so high it actually put pay to using it.

This Hotel was our choice for a Wedding Reception and also the accommodation for numerous guests who attended. The Hotel's Wedding planner was without doubt, extremely organised, pleasant and she applied a most professional approach to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day. Full credit must also be awarded to all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. They were most pleasant and attentive over the whole weekend.The Garrick Suite was dressed to perfection. Food was of excellent quality both mains and the evening buffet. Similarly breakfast and the carvery. Cleanliness was in evidence in all areas including our accommodation. Our guests were most complimentary about the Hotel and how they had portrayed their excellent hospitality. In our opinion, anyone who has any apprehension about booking this Hotel for a Wedding Reception or accommodation, to be assured the service and quality is of a very high standard.

Stayed here last night on a business trip, the third time but first TA review. Lichfield is a small city but busy and as hotels there go the George is one of the best Imhave tried. Previously the rooms were smallish but last night I somehow clicked and got a whopper !. Four poster, additional sitting room area, two TV's and a good refurbished bathroom. Air con is questionable and noisy but open windows helped. The drayman or dustman at 5am didn't however and peaceful sleep over with !. Breakfast good and hot and well presented. Great all round.

Actually nothing special about this hotel, except - free parking and it is smack in the city centre. Very handy for some good eating and a few canny pubs nearby. Bedrooms very clean, bed comfortable. Breakfast - good selection. Staff friendly.

Very comfortable hotel, with excellent air conditioning in the bedroom. Free parking is also a big bonus for the centre of the city. The cooked breakfast was also superb. I would happily stay here again without hesitation. My only minor comment was that the price was a little high, but this was probably due to a Tom Jones concert in Lichfield that weekend. I originally wanted to book the Premier Inn, but would book here now instead, having stayed there.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights to tour the local area and visit the National Arboretum. The hotel is in the town itself and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. The local market (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) is about 5 minutes walk. The room (Standard double) was clean and comfortable and the air conditioning worked well, if a little noisy at times. The hotel is very warm, though we were seeing outside temperatures of 24 - 27 oc. Our room was on the 2nd floor which does not have access via a lift, but the trek down several corridors and up 3 flights of stairs kept us fit. The restaurant and bar are clean and offer the usual range of bar snacks and main meals. The staff were friendly and professional on the whole. My only reservation about recommending this hotel was the night porters reaction to a fire alarm at 12.30 am on our final night. We woke to the alarm and followed the standard instructions to leave the room. several other guests on our floor opened their doors and quickly shut them again - no accounting for the instinct of self preservation in some folks! As we headed for the stairs the fire alarm stopped and we passed a night porter who mumbled. " it's on the second floor, probably someone smoking in the room". Down in reception it appeared as if the alarm had been muted by the staff - I hope I am wrong about this - without the cause of it having been investigated and with very few guests having left their rooms. If this was a true interpretation of events I am horrified at the risk that guests were put in by muting/cancelling the fire alarm. I discussed this with the young man on reception the next morning and he said he would pass my comments on. Apart from this it was a very enjoyable stay.

10 minutes walk from the Catherdral, 5 minutes walk to the city centre. Comfortable room, air conditioning or wall heater or windows that open (your choice depending on the weather). It's a buffet breakfast that is regularly re-filled, so hot and fresh..Plenty of fresh fruit for breakfast, plus croissants, cereals etc..Good quality bacon and sausages, scrambled or fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, hash brown, 1/4's fried bread (and day 1 some very tasty black pudding - alas none available day 2). Toast, tea/coffee delivered to your table. Good service. Lounge bar has two real ale pumps, one of which is usually from the Salopian brewery. Service can be a little slow, especially when there was only one behind the bar (who said he doesn't work that bar, normally) and the bloke in front orders 4 cocktails.

Stayed overnight Sunday 5 June/Monday 6 June. We were in Lichfield to see Pasha Kovalev at The Garrick Theatre. On check-in we were told we had been upgraded to a room with a four poster bed, room 25. The room was lovely and spacious with a separate seating area with a TV, there was also a TV in the bedroom. The bathroom was very nice too with a bath and a shower. Breakfast was good also. Hot and cold buffet offering bacon, eggs, sausages, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms etc and cereals and yogurts etc. Will definitely stay here again next time we visit Lichfield.

Hotel in an excellent location-step out the main door and your on the high street if Lichfield within seconds you can be in bars, restaurants, shops and the sights of the city. Great staff-always friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the breakfast also great with a buffet style of continental and full English. Overall a fantastic hotel in a great location!

The hotel was very nice, clean and in a great location in Lichfield centre. The breakfast was very tasty with a good selection on offer. I was able to check in early as well. Only thing was that the room was very noisey from 6am the next morning

Ideally situated in the centre of the old city for tourists, comfortable room, and a very tasty breakfast with a good choice. I have stayed in other Best Westerns (including one the night before in another town) but this had a definite edge - probably because it was a Webb hotel which presumably is a Best Western franchise. The staff were particularly helpful and friendly. Although in the centre of the city, our room was quiet.

We stayed on a Saturday night with friends on a great deal from Living Social. Our room was a Superior one with a 4 poster & separate lounge area. The room was spotless with a really refurbished very smart bathroom. All areas of the hotel were smart and the 2 course meal we had in the restaurant wss lovely. Our friends room wss on the front of the hotel and there was noise from the street below/ Walkabout pub which kept them awake. Breakfast was great- a buffet with good quality, well cooked food. We would definately return.

As with others who have reviewed this hotel, we had a Living Social deal so we started off with a good value package. The first evening's dinner was very impressive with glasses of bubbles also included. Friendly and helpful staff and the hotel is obviously doing all it can to raise the restaurant's profile - long may that continue! Whilst there is a large, free car park provided by the hotel, it is not easy to get to unless you know where you are going. We didn't so we parked elsewhere, not very far away as it turned out, checked into the hotel and got directions from there. Easily dealt with.

we stayed in a double room one Saturday night as part of a " living social " deal . we were delighted to have free parking included so we could make the most of our stay . Our room was clean ,well set out with a comfy bed . the deal included a two course evening meal and we were very pleasantly surprised by the excellent choices on offer and the glass of prosecco to start .The breakfast was also perfect with hot and cold options and lots of potential courses , so as much as you eat . All the staff were very attentive, professional and friendly . Overall this stay was excellent value for money and I cannot fault it and my thanks to the hotel staff .

Stayed in this hotel with work for three nights and was overall very disappointed. The rooms weren't too bad, very outdated but clean and had a good TV and WiFi so thats the main thing. Reception staff were very friendly. Walls and doors of the hotel leak a lot of noise so heads up if your a bad sleeper. The main thing that let this hotel down was the food. Breakfast was extremely poor and it was £9.50 to add on the day. By poor I am quality of the food, there is a small selection but enough of what you want/need it just tasted awful. We had dinner on our last night and I had carbonara, again dreadful, tasted like flour and very very bland, I couldn't eat it. Our bath flooded with dirt on the last night but I thing that was due to building work being done. The location isn't too bad, nice wee town and its about a £15 taxi ride to the train station or Tamworth itself. If you just want somewhere to stay to sleep this is a good place at the right price, if you want to use all that a hotel offers, there are nicer hotels to book.

Booked this hotel through a living social offer, to be fair, was not expecting a lot considering for the price paid, boy were we wrong, got to the hotel early, spoke to a cheerful, helpful lady on reception, who allowed us to book the car into the car park, and went for some lunch, on our return, we were allocated a superior room, at the back of the hotel, as the front is directly opposite Walkabout, this a bonus, We had a lovely, clean light room, complete with four poster bed which was very comfy, a sitting room, with chair, settee an another TV a modern bathroom with bath and a shower Our deal also came with a meal on the first night at Darwins restaurant, which personally we could nt find fault with, also the staff could nt have been more helpful and pleasant when asked for alternatives from the choice stated, Breakfast is also served in this room, which is buffet style, if there was one slight gripe the eggs seemed slightly over done the first morning, just got up earlier the next day toast, tea / coffee delivered by a waitress to the table, Lichfield itself, we found plenty to see and do and spent three very full interesting days in the area, Would like to give a special mention to the night manager who showed a great deal of patience on the Saturday night while I was trying to make my mind up over the various gins on the menu Thank You, we had a lovely time, also the hotel, could nt be sited in a better location,

We were warned off booking dinner by another guest and knew why at breakfast. White crockery (cups, saucers, tea/coffee pots) were all heavily stained by previous use. Coffee pot had long, wide stain from spout to bottom, clearly not from our serving. Why had staff not noticed it? Did they care anyway? Tried to find cleaner crockery from other tables, but all much the same. No dishwasher? Cereals OK but fruit nearly all tinned. Chose food from 'hot' buffet but abandoned it at table, as it was quite cold, on a cold plate, really unpalatable. Some of the fried eggs were undercooked, with transparent white. Toast brought to table, slices all overlapping, so really soggy. My breakfast was a bit of tinned fruit and 1 piece of soggy toast. Our friends just had cereal. We would have complained but were there with friends not seen for years so didn't want to create bad atmosphere. Bedroom clean, with good bedlinen. Bathroom appeared clean but smelled really musty. Receptionist on arrival unsmiling, unwelcoming. Grumpy because we had arrived before check-in time. We had to ask for somewhere to keep our bags until check-in time. Manager clearly not up to the job, taking no notice of other comments I've seen since. Bad reflection on Best Western group.

Enjoyed our 3 night stay at this Best Western hotel, lovely superior room, looked as if recently decorated, spotlessly clean and excellent room service. Very nice meal in Darwin restaurant and the buffet breakfast was delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. Would go again, particularly because of the no dogs policy, which is always nice and it is becoming more difficult to find hotels that do not allow them. Nothing against them - but we don't want to sit on upholstery and sleep in a bed that dogs have wiped their behinds on......

As usual of best western , a lovely hotel . Beautiful room , excellent food on the whole , although the mussels were the size of cockles and undoubtedly the smallest I have ever seen , no refund was offered when I commented on them . Negatives ! Poor bar service , waited for ages , and I do feel that the hotel needs to check the suitability of room for guests . If you are older or have bad knees etc make sure you have a room on the side of the hotel with a lift !! My knees struggled with the access to our room

Group of us from all over the country met up for a weekend. We were accommodated in the restaurant on the first night all together and had a private room on the following evening for our Re-union dinner and speeches. Rooms were very clean had everything we needed. Could walk from the hotel to various places around the town. Only a few miles from the National Memorial Arboretum which is a must visit. All the staff were very friendly. Special mention for Tim who reminded me at breakfast that I had put my tomatoes in the fridge in our room so I did not go home without them.

Lovely Bedroom and Bathroom which had evidently been refurbished. Really comfortable, clean, ours was on the back of the building and so was quiet and peaceful. I did make a complaint about the bar service where eventually The Bar Manger rather begrudgingly gave a discount off the bar bill. The service was dreadful with stay saying they did not know if the coffee machine was working, they did not know how to make a liquor coffee and would have to ask someone. At this point we were served two White Coffee's and just left. When I chased up the two liquor coffee's the attendant wanted to charge me for two coffee's and the liquor coffee's which we had not even had. When they were eventually served they were luke warm. When I complained to the attendant and asked for a discount I was told it was not in her remit. The attendant went away and asked the Bar Manager coming back to say his decision was that a discount was not appropriate. When I asked to see him he refused again. when I said I was prepared to pay the full amount but would put my experiences on Trip Advisor he offed to reduce the bar bill be the amount of The Two White Coffee's and said I would not experience poor service again and to ask for him next time. In this day and age not good customer service.

Best Western George Hotel is near many restaurants on a less busy street. Rooms are smaller and got a bathtub (nice). Darwin restaurant downstairs is nice, you should try it. If you want modern amenities, this hotel is not for you, if you want quaint George Hotel is good. There is hotel parking in the back.

My wife and I stayed overnight in the hotel after attending a concert by Aled Jones at Lichfield Cathedral. The hotel, front of house staff and the bedroom were very good, clean and efficient. However...... At about 5pm before attending the Cathedral we chose to have a meal from the Bar Menu. I chose the Fish and Chips which were average but quite greasy and my wife chose the Caesar Salad which was plentiful but the croutons must have been of some age because they were so hard and totally tooth breakingly inedible. The following morning at breakfast we were quickly shown to a table and helped ourselves to the buffer breakfast. My wife chose the mixed fruit but was told that the large empty bowl of yoghurt was the last. This was with at least another hour of breakfast to go and many more diners to come. I chose a mixture of cooked items which I included scrambled egg from a serving dish. It is the first time that I have had to cut scrambled egg as opposed to spooning it. Whilst looking around for a bread roll I was told that toast would be served to me at the table and that there were no bread rolls. Everything else on the menu was fine. When I came to eat the scrambled egg it was a horrible grey colour in the middle and I drew this to the attention of the waiter and suggested that he may wish to check the rest of the batch. He returned as few minutes later with an apology from the chef and a fried egg on a small plate to replace the scrambled egg. Not quite what I wanted but better than nothing. When the toast arrived it was a mixture of white and brown bread, we would have preferred brown or wholemeal but didn't get the option. Unfortunately the food on this occasion let down the whole experience which is a shame because we went to their Jazz Lunch a few weeks ago and everything was fine, hopefully it will again be good as we have booked for the Jazz Lunch again in September.

Great relaxing stay. I stayed for a birthday treat and enjoyed a night out in Lichfield. The location of the hotel is ideal for roaming around the town in the day and enjoying the many restaurants and bars in the evening. We will definitely return to this hotel

For our two night weekend stay at the George Hotel, we booked a superior double room which was quite spacious, The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was good and the evening meal we ate in the restaurant was also good. Staff were friendly but service was a little slow, there appeared to be several new waiters/waitressers. The hotel has an ideal situation close to the centre of town and close to attractions, restaurants and shops.

A group of 12 of us stayed at the George for 2 nights. Felicity had been really helpful during the planning of this group weekend and all the staff turned out to be friendly and helpful right from the start to the end of our stay. Rooms were clean and comfortable although some were a little dark, possibly because of the scaffolding work going on outside. Food was excellent and although we were on a group menu, the choices were still good (4 starters, 4 mains and 4 deserts to choose from). Location was right in the town centre but we had no problems with noise. Lichfield is a lovely city for a few days and I would recommend the George as a good value, comfortable place to stay while there.

The staff could not have been more friendly and halpful from the receptionist to the restaurant staff to the chambermaid. The only fly in the ointment was that our room was too hot (remedied by opening the window which isn't very environmentally friendly) and even when switched off at the wall the heater wouldn't turn off.

3 of us went for afternoon tea thought there may have been a special offer or something for st Georges day but there wasn't. Sandwiches and drinks were very nice but disappointed with the cake selection I am allergic to strawberries and every cake had strawberry in it. Told waitress and all she did was swap one of the 12 cakes for a chocolate one so I only had one cake instead of 4

We booked the George in January for this weekend-23rd April 2016. We were delighted to receive an early bird booking price of £79 - an added bonus as this hotel came highly recommended. What a shock to receive a telephone call from the George at 4:30pm the day before our visit to say The George had allocated our rooms to another party as they were elderly. It was pointed out that 3 of our party were retired! They then proceeded to say they have booked us into the Premier Inn however we could park for free at the George and have a round of drinks at the bar. We did come to a compromise and I must say the Premier Inn was fantastic and they provide a beautiful breakfast. We did have a nice dinner at The George but that is the only positive thing I can say as The George only demonstrated a very indifferent attitude to their treatment of out booking. You would be better just to book Premier Inn direct as at least you are treated with curtesy.

Having booked in January, and paid in full at that time, we were not expecting a call the afternoon prior to our journey to be informed that another group had arrived with more people than they had booked for???... so the only option they saw was to cancel our booking, moving us to another hotel!! We still do not understand how we became involved in a mistake made by a group not associated with us. Appalling decision making. From our side it was a non cancellable reservation and we fail to understand how this does not work both ways.

Very central hotel. Next to all shops bars and restaurants. Free parking at the rear of the hotel you apply for a permit at reception. Lovely room, complete with welcome chocolates, tea coffee making facilities and biscuits. Dressing gowns , slippers and toiletries all supplied and mini bar in room. Room lovely, and spotless. All staff very friendly and approachable, very nice cosy bar area. We had a two course meal in the restaurant which was very good.Thai beef salad to start which was delicious, rib eye steak very well cooked with chips. My only complaint (very small) there were no onion rings to order as extras.. My husband had lamb shoulder mash and veg the lamb was beautiful. He had white chocolate cheese cake which was great. Wine not over expensive we paid £15. Breakfast was the usual self service , you could order kippers, porridge if wanted. Would definitely stay again .

Stayed on special deal. Great superior room / suite. Very friendly and courteous staff. Delicious three course dinner and substantial breakfast included in the deal. Great location for exploring Lichfield and visiting the cathedral

Visiting family we decided to book here as opposed to a different hotel usually used when visiting & we are glad we did!! Room was clean & had everything needed, location was great. Unfortunately the restaurant was full when we arrived so went out to eat but on our return sat in the bar for a couple of drinks. Breakfast the following day was nice & most importantly all staff were very friendly!! Will definitely stay here again & almost certainly recommend it!

A very convenient hotel to explore Lichfield. We were very satisfied with the room - it was spacious and comfortable (we paid for a superior double). The staff were friendly, and the breakfast selection was very good. However, we had a terrible night's sleep, thanks to the nightclub across the road, which didn't quieten down until 4am. Although this isn't the fault of the hotel, better sound proofing is clearly needed for rooms at that end of the building.
