"Beautiful and peaceful grounds"
snorklecrazy2018, 12 Février 2024

Extremely gorgeous property with a very comfortable bed. Two pools and a restaurant on the property were very convenient especially it you don't want to walk at night, although there were good restaurants closeby that were less expensive.

"Absolute garbage hotel, nothing like the best western i went before and i used to work at one"
Alyxツ S, 27 Janvier 2024

Im a former employe at a best western in Canada. Only good thing is the pool, you cannot sleep here, we heard people banging on the roof all night, you hear animal screaming at 4 am till 8 am it was crazy none of us 3 slept. Food is not that great either the breakfast was absolute garbage, milk for the cereal was hot, eggs were drawning in liquid. I liked the A/C tho

"Beware"
Passenger32400540903, 08 Janvier 2024

Charged for a second person when the site didn't allow us to change from 1 to 2 people. Short sheeted the bed. No fridge or microwave in the room per our reservation. Bed was comfortable enough. Lots of rules about visitors and food.

"Worst Best Western Ever"
Richard E, 29 Octobre 2023

Just an overall horrible experience. From zero hot water (and asking three times to either fix or change rooms to no avail), to intermittent internet to horrible service at the cabana restaurant. Dinner was horrible, breakfast was worse and just left before we even ate due to horrible attitude and service. You have many choices in Liberia - don't choose here!

"Beds Hard and Uncomfortable"
Phil M, 02 Juillet 2023

Beds hard and uncomfortable and almost impossible to rest. Front desk is dismissive and not empathic to any issue you may bring up. Hotel website advertising casino but when you ask the front desk they act like you are stupid for not knowing the casino is shut down long term. Overpriced restaurant with dirty pool area that is not well maintained.

"Great Place to Stop Over"
Guy T, 05 Mai 2023

I was coming from the Nicaraguan Border after a 5 1/2 hour drive. Great place to stop over before our next day 4 1/2 hour drive past Jaco, Costa Rica. The room was comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was very good.

"Not a good experience"
Zen0507, 18 Février 2023

The place is really bad in offering internet, quality sleep, rooms are too small like hostel , food quality is bad and servers are very indifferent. I can make better drinks Breakfast was so bad that I end up going McDonald's. Only the location is good

"DO NOT STAY HERE"
teresaoI5050UZ, 16 Février 2023

There are many reasons not to stay here. The windows leaked a lot of air, making the room very noisy with the howling winds. There was no refrigerator. The pool area was gross, with a second pool or maybe jacuzzi imploding with crime scene tape around it. There were a lot of dirt, leaves and debris around the pool. This place was advertised as having a casino and a hot tub. This is not true. It appeared as if the casino had been barred up for years. The person at the front desk told us not to park out front because it was dangerous. The bathroom was gross. Both the mens and ladies restrooms in the lobby were disgusting and did not have toilet paper. Best Western should be embarrassed to have this hotel use their name. This was probably a nice place about 25 to 30 years ago - not now.

"Convenient Location"
Tica T, 22 Janvier 2023

I truly wanted to give them 4.5 stars but that's not an option here. And this is because I cannot understand why they didn't have a mini fridge in the room. I stayed at smaller hotels within the same budget and they all had a mini fridge. I asked for one and they said it was $20/night. I never heard of such a charge! December is a summer month and it's very very hot in Liberia, so I'd expect my hotel room to at least have a tiny fridge to keep my water cold!. Also, we had an issue with the bathroom (the water was not going down), but they quickly came to fix it, so I appreciate the service and personnel was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was really good. I also had dinner at the restaurant and it was good. location is great if you're flying out of Liberia or if you need to run errands in the city (which was my case, after dropping off my husband at the airport). The room was spacious and beds were super comfortable. I will definitely recommend the hotel, but advise taking a cooler and ice if you want anything cold in the room.

"BW LIBERIA"
Happy s, 16 Janvier 2023

One star Hotel. Wifi is useless. TV's in rooms only show Spanish programs. Wifi not working, you can not watch anything else on laptop, or check email. Mosquitos in rooms. Rooms were built first, the everything else is add on, Cupboards, Or Temp sinks in bathroom. Restaurant is OK. Best thing is Peacocks at property.

"Should have found a better place"
Reshma D, 30 Décembre 2022

Mediocre hotel. Great design but outdated and run down. Lots of cutting corners, lack of investments and short staffing. The water even stopped working in our room when the toilet flushed. The fixtures are dated and coated in soap skum. The airport shuttle is disingenuous as the advertising implies their is a shuttle but which is available is a taxi for a fee. Restaurant was horrible. They were understaffed and inexperienced. The food was poor and appeared to be purchased frozen and cooked on site. Coffee maker didn't work well, had to try turning on and off several.times

"Good hotel for short stay"
ModernWorldTraveler, 06 Décembre 2022

The rate for this hotel is affordable, the staff is wonderful, but the rooms are dated. I did not expect the Ritz, so I knew I what I was getting. However, my room had issues. Way too many bugs due to lack of proper sealing around the exterior doors. The room is also a bit drab in color and design. For a short business stay, it works. For a longer, holiday stay, it works if you are busy traveling around beautiful Guanacaste. The free breakfast is worth the rate paid, so I highly recommend it. As I was traveling on business, I did not use the pool. The exercise room was very good. Internet inside the room was spotty, but it was very stable in the lobby and pool area. The restaurant area had a weak signal. The staff are very friendly--zero complaints. Overall, I would probably use this hotel again for a short stay.

"Avoid the swimming pool in the morning"
Paulus K, 05 Décembre 2022

For US 125 I expected some better quality. If you come to relax please avoid the swimming pool area in the morming. The swimming poll is open from 09:30 (!), not earlier and after that, someone starts making an unbeable noise with a leaf blower around the swimming pool that makes all the guests flee to other places.Incredile !

"Great spot to stay"
machitos_mum, 14 Novembre 2022

Rooms were very clean and modern, internet worked just fine in the room. Breakfast was a typical breakfast - fruits, cereals, yogurt, juices, eggs, pinto, cheese. I ate dinner in the restaurant as well and it was very good. My room was on the road side but I didn't hear any traffic. Good location.

"Not a good starting or ending spot for a trip in Costa Rica."
Elwood T, 04 Novembre 2022

For the price you are better off starting or ending your trip at another location. Priced way to high. No shuttle services to airport, located at busiest and noisiest intersection in the area for traffic. Our bedding did not have top sheet. When requested, we were given an additional fitted bottom sheet. At check-in we had no running water in our room. Better stay near airport and have shuttle services and better service and room.

"Bring your earplugs because we didn't sleep"
TravelBuddy_YA, 07 Octobre 2022

The hotel is well kept, the pool is nice and the on-site restaurant has lots of selection. The breakfast is large and filling. All the staff are lovely. The bad: there is a nightclub across the street and we didn't get to sleep until 4am. Loud bumping music and someone trying to start their water-logged motorcycle outside our window from 2-4am (which literally sounded like a chainsaw) made me wish I brought earplugs because we had to be up at 6am for a flight. I did go up to the front desk around 3am to speak to the attendant, and he just shrugged and apologized for the nightclub, but really nothing he could do. Obviously they can't control what people do outside their building, but I could stay here again or recommend it to anyone, unfortunately. Everything else was great, but restful sleep is part of what you expect.

"Unexpected pleasure"
THBerry, 17 Mai 2022

This was first time stay and website description was very understated, so was pleasantly surprised at the accommodations. Front desk fluent in English and all smiles. (Maybe like rest of us ready to lose the masks!)

"Adequate - could have been so much better"
Chris D, 20 Avril 2022

It was a fair hotel for the price. Beds comfortable, room clean, restaurant better than expected (service and food), excellent grounds (especially for birding). The hotel was quiet on our stay. However, the lack of a fridge was a huge negative. We were flying out the next morning and had items we needed to keep cool. We were also not 'allowed' to use the hotel ice for our cooler so had to leave the property to buy some. We felt we were being treated like children, and/or coerced towards using the hotel bar - but we wanted a fridge, not to buy a drink . This might not be a big deal for many people but was very disappointing for us in this level of hotel. The safe didn't work, the pool was pretty scummy and hadn't been cleaned for a while, and the water pressure was just ok - we understand that this can be beyond the control of the hotel. We had been told that an additional bed would be in the room on arrival but it wasn't and it took a few hours to arrive after two chases. Sadly, this collection of small details added up to mean we feel an average score is appropriate.

"Looking it's age"
Wefish88, 07 Avril 2022

We have stayed here many times over the past 25 years and it is showing it's age. Beds were hard as the floor, no fridge in the room…..and no pets allowed! The receptionist was not very friendly and the bar across the street had loud music well into the wee hours of the morn8ng.

"Great place for a quick trip to Liberia"
kdsc, 30 Mars 2022

We stayed here before several years ago, but it's been updated since then. The rooms are large, clean, modern, comfortable. The breakfast was good, mostly typical Costa Rican food. We had drinks at the bar, and the waitress was great and the prices were very reasonable. Our only complaint is that the pool has some kind of a rubbery liner that is uneven and unpleasant on the bottom. The pool and area around it is really pretty, quiet, relaxing. But the pool itself needs to be re-done. Other than that, this is a great hotel and great location.

"Fair hotel - not sure I would stay again."
W8899OKjeffl, 14 Février 2022

We ended up staying at this hotel several times over the course of several weeks from travelling back and forth to Nicaragua. I would have gave three stars had something I left in the room had been returned to me. The good: Check in is quick and easy and the cleanliness is good. It also has a nice pool and free breakfast, which is good. It is also a quick and easy walk into downtown for restaurants. They also stored our luggage for free. The bad: I left some high end ear buds on the dresser and didn't realize it until I left. I immediately emailed the front desk before they had even cleaned the room letting them know I left them in the room. I did not hear back from the hotel. The beds were extremely firm, but maybe that is normal in Latin America?

"GREAT HOTEL!"
gittelh, 13 Février 2022

Very beautiful hotel. Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was clean and pretty. The location was excellent with amazingly beautiful view! Would stay again if coming to Costa Rica in the future! Best place!

"Nightmare at el sitio…."
Koates57, 11 Février 2022

Best western is a nightmare. If you are a tourist with a positive case- do not seek quarantine here. They will kick you out. If you do stay here, do NOT tell them you are positive. They do not care about their guests. They kicked me out on day 3 of quarantine and lied to me about my next hotel. (Told me it was booked for 5 days, was only 1) I had a legally binding sanitary order to remain in place and they did NOT abide by it. They made me worsen the spread by putting me in multiple taxi's. They have yet to give me a refund. Avoid this hotel at ALL costs. Save your energy, money, and time. Go to Hilton inn or las espuelas. Horrible customer service. Ants easily found in the rooms. Very loud air conditioning units. Horrible Wi-Fi. Please avoid if you can.

"Spend more and go elsewhere"
daswitty, 26 Janvier 2022

Really did not appreciate this hotel. Everything was an additional fee. The closet was in the bathroom. Bathroom was gross. I recommend spending more and staying elsewhere. Good for a tight budget traveler.

"Best pkave to stay in Liberia CR"
Ricardo T, 24 Janvier 2022

What a great place to spend a little time at if you are going in our out of Liberia Airport in Costa Rica. Has amazing grounds comfortable rooms hot showers, a pretty decent gym and restaurant. So many beautiful birds and a pond teeming with wild life.

"Good hotel"
leroyr49, 13 Janvier 2022

Hotel had a spacious room with good AC. A decent gym. The customer service was excellent. Food at dinner and breakfast were also good. My only beef is when I booked on hotels.com there was no mention of casino being closed. It is the responsibility of the business to make sure the information they maintain on all sites is accurate, especially during Covid.

"Needs a little attention."
7preacher7, 05 Janvier 2022

This was probably once a very nice hotel. The courtyard is beautiful, the staff friendly, and has restaurants and Covid testing site next door. We had a great time there, but think the previous good reviews are probably no longer relevant. Probably worth what we paid but here are some areas that need improvement. No refrigerator in the rooms, casino, tennis courts and volleyball court don't like they've been used in quite a while, no bar service at the pool, sketchy internet, no where to sit out front when waiting for pickup, faucet about to fall off. Not terrible, not wonderful. Previous reviews about great breakfast no longer true. No meat of any kind at the great breakfast? Rice, beans, eggs fruit? Left hungry.

"Needs Work"
Katelyn1214, 29 Décembre 2021

The pool is wonderful. However, the bed was like laying on the floor. The room only had one lightbulb, couldn't see closet at night. Needs a renovation, even though we were told it was newly renovated.

"Do not stay here"
Runnermom552, 28 Décembre 2021

Unfortunately we had to stay here twice, on our way in to Costa Rica and on our way out. We were unable to find other accommodations. Do not stay here. On both trips there was mold on the bed, the walls and the sheets. We checked in to The first room late at night and the staff were already on their way out. They were not interested in hearing that the light was burned out, or that we needed the roll away that we requested and paid for. Eventually they did bring the bed, without sheets on it, and there was mold everywhere. They would not replace the light bulb. The bathroom was dirty and dingy. Luckily it had a light in in so that we could see! We dreaded returning to this hotel on our return. We were given an ‘updated' room this time. We walked in to find cockroaches on the ceiling and on the floor. The bathroom sink did not work. Knowing what the other rooms look like we chose to stay in the room we were given. I'd run from this hotel. Don't stay here.

"Not just a stop over hotel"
Caroline9179, 16 Décembre 2021

We expected just a place close to the airport to sleep after our late flight into Liberia. We got a beautiful little gem of a place. The location is perfect as a starting point from Liberia to all of Costa Rica - very close to the main highway. The grounds are quiet and lovely, with a pool and a play area for kids. Breakfast was delicious with many options. Staff was bilingual. There was a casino in site. We didn't use it so can't speak to it's quality, but it was there as an option if you choose.

"Great stop before going to beach or volcano."
GRC761, 09 Novembre 2021

I always come here after a long flight from the US. Nice rooms. Grocery store within walking distance in the mall next door. Clean. Nice Pool area. The thatched roof open air restaurant was perfect in these Pandemic times. Lots of protocol in place. Special old Guanacaste Trees around the restaurant. The owner even has resident peacocks on the premises. The breakfast included in my stay was really good! 3 visit here and planning a 4th. Keep up the great work. If it rains floor tiles can be slick. (usually set up caution signs) Please note the hand paint wall murals of Costa Rica scenery and wildlife. If you have kids see how many critters they can spot in the one by the entrance.

"Great location"
tyagi, 28 Octobre 2021

Large room and bathroom. Great swimming pool with lots of lounge chairs all around. Walking distance to Walmart and the center of town for shopping and restaurants. Clean and quiet. The breakfast was good.

"Great short stay"
756briannah, 04 Septembre 2021

Booked this hotel last minute after travel plans were disrupted due to weather and it was perfect. It has a great location - close to the airport and a quick walk to Walmart (which was needed after the airline lost our bags). Staff was friendly, rooms were clean, food was good, and amenities and grounds were beautiful.

"A nice respite from a long travel day"
Andrea E, 25 Juillet 2021

We had a late night arrival into Liberia and decided to stay here for a night before heading off to the beach. Overall, a great little hotel that did the job! The beds are on the firm side but not hard. A very nice picture window that overlooked the courtyard/pool area. The bathroom looked a bit tired (tilework needs some repairs/refresh) but the shower was hot and great pressure. Breakfast was hot, fresh, and free. Fruit, rice and beans, plantains and eggs. A great cup of coffee! We had a quick swim in the morning. It looked like they were doing some repairs to the pools, only one of the two was open. A nice big pool - does attract bugs, which they were trying to mitigate. Some fun bird watching from the pool area, including a pair of peacocks wandering around the property. We were hoping to get lunch prior to our transport company picking us up at 1:00. Strangely, this hotels restaurant doesn't open for lunch until 2:00. However there are restaurants within walking distance - turn right and walk a couple blocks. Also a Subway directly across the street (crossing can be a little tricky though!). Overall, I think this was a great choice for our needs, and reasonably priced ($99).

"Poor aplication of COVID protocols"
V7683TWdiegoc, 31 Janvier 2021

When we arrived at the hotel we saw COVID protocol advertising, but the thruth is that they were not applied. People without a mask talking over the food during breakfast and the lady in charge of distribuiting food did nothing, when I told her about it she said that if I wanted she could give me clean food from the kitchen, but she never change the food for the rest of the guests. A lot of guests didn't ware masks and the hotel personnel didn't say or do anything. The pool was dirty.

"wonderful stay"
MVMass, 14 Janvier 2021

We stayed at the Best Western in Liberia, Costa Rica, and enjoyed every minute. The most striking and beautiful part are the grounds, like a park, lovely trees and tropical plantings. There are peacocks strutting around, walk ways with benches, two swimming pools and an outdoor cabana for dining. From our huge window, we could see tropical plantings, so lovely and cool. The food: must try the chicken Milanese, so juicy and tender, with vegetables and French fries. The pizza is great. Breakfast is lovely too. We had a glass of fruit punch that was so good. There seem to be two queen beds in each room, lovely hot water for showers. The staff is great and always had a smile for us. The hotel seems to be well managed and is a hotel we will stay at again. Omar and Muriel

"Very dissappointing"
vilar30, 07 Décembre 2020

Beautifull facility, with terrible nasty and unfriendly staff Erratic internet, no TV, only local channels and one French channel Lousy breakfast only eggs, toast, no butter. No fruit. No pool towels available at 11:00 am.

"Nice, Economical Hotel"
RichandBonny, 01 Avril 2020

This is a quiet hotel right in Liberia. Plenty of fast food restaurants nearby! The rooms were nice, although you need to be in the lobby to use their wi-fi. Breakfast was good and the pool area was very nice, but the water was too cold for us. Actually, we only saw a few people using it, and they said it was cold too. Unfortunately, the casino wasn't open while we were there. There is a Walmart about a block away, and the Liberia airport is about 15 minutes. The beaches are probably about 30 minutes. Very convenient, though to the main highway. Very economical, so we will probably stay here again.

"Trip To Costa Rica"
Sammy1Canada, 16 Mars 2020

We had a very good night at the Best Western El Sitio. Checking in was very easy and the recepionist was friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean. The pool area is lovely with many chairs and chaise lounges. The pool area is surrounded by huge old trees with many different birds. Food was good at the open air restaurant. We didn't have a problem with noise from the club across the strreet. We would definately stay at the El Sitio again

"NOT quiet for pre-flight night"
Susan O, 09 Mars 2020

Unfortunately, I expected more from a Best Western. The hotel IS renovating their rooms, but they really need to replace the windows as well. Also unfortunately, we stayed when there was a festival on, and so the bar across the street and in the next shopping centre were very loud until 4 a.m.... then there were fireworks (hopefully fireworks) at around 5 am. The air conditioner was inadequate as well. The pool needed cleaning, and thankfully, the next day the staff were at it in the morning. We moved to the pool side of the room wing, and it was quieter for the second night (we were not "allowed" to check out and get a refund due to noise!), but the windows still are inadequate. The a/c unit worked much better, the soap dispensers were full, and the room was clean and had all the bedding that was supposed to be there. Be prepared to wait for check-in if you arrive before 3pm. They have this 'rule', and they stick to it, even if rooms are ready! Very strange. The food was ok... we ate there twice. The new bar maid/waitress (Makenzie) is definitely an asset to this place, as she is great with customers (so was the cook!)

"Close to LIR"
amandanD990FA, 16 Février 2020

We stayed here due to its proximity to LIR, and our late arrival from the US. The location is close, but that's about all I can say in the positive. The beds are very uncomfortable (feel every coil), the casino/night club is VERY loud and goes all night long, and the included breakfast was not good. It certainly wasn't what I expected from the BW brand, but hey - it was one night so we didn't suffer too long!

"Worst hotel ever"
N6476PHmonicam, 16 Février 2020

Worst hotel ever. They cancelled 2 of my 3 rooms. "You would have gotten your rooms if you were here earlier". They claimed my credit card showed stolen... so it was good for one room but not the three I booked? No other hotels had space. We had no choice that take the room and have 6 people in it. The room is a DUMP. Not kept, dirty. Had booked with Expedua, they claimed it was Expedia's fault for not pre charging. Go somewhere else!

"Everything went off without any problems. Staff was very helpful and friendly."
chuck723, 15 Février 2020

We didn't actually spend much time there because my wife were traveling each day to see local sites but what time we did spend there couldn't have been better. Very clean rooms and GREAT service. Very nice restruart on site. Close to the airport which we really liked. No complaints AT ALL. Thanks for a very nice time at Best Western. Highly recommend.

"Cheaper through 3rd party booking sites"
WalterGaczewski, 19 Janvier 2020

Paid $25.64 more by booking on BW site. Didn't know they would charge an extra $28 for my wife, only two people total and all rooms have two beds. The you get tricked using BW site to book. Arrived early (around noon) front desk gentleman said to stop back at 1:00 and would check us in early if room availablestopped back at 1:00 and manager said no checkins allowed until 3:00 it's the policy. I walked by desk again at 2:00 and she was checking people in. You get different answers depending on who you talk to and manager broke policy that she stated to me.

"seeing isn't beliving"
jim w, 09 Janvier 2020

This Best Western Hotel was just OK. It is advetised as BESTWESTERN & Casino There is no casino. Staff don't remember the last time it was open. On the main Road into Liberia . Lighting in rooms was dim no good for ladies and makeup.

"For Liberia pretty good"
susanbewcyk, 01 Janvier 2020

They have renovated rooms, air conditioning, pool, good parking, location is excellent. This is a good choice for Liberia considering other options. Close to Walmart, food. Easy to find. Will be our choice here.

"It's ok "
CoolStriker17, 31 Décembre 2019

This hotel has a nice location to it and is very close to town. It has a good ambience to it and there are animals that roam around. The wifi is pretty slow making it kind of tough to search something up.

"Great location and spacious room"
Tutty256, 09 Décembre 2019

Drove from San Jose to Liberia for business and stayed one night. I asked for a room in the new area, as a friend suggested to me. Chose a room on the opposite side of the main street to avoid noise. The room was clean, spacious, porcelain tile floors, good a/c, coffee maker and a nice bathroom. Buffett breakfast was fine, local rice and beans (gallo pinto), fruit, coffee, cereal, milk but no sour cream. My main reason for the 'average' rating is that there was no hot water in the shower. Upon checking out I asked at the counter why there was no hot water and they replied it is common that hot water system turns off whenever there is an electrical overload and guest needs to advise so they can turn on the switch on the central board located outside the bedroom!!! I don't understand how come if they already know they have an electrical problem it has not been fixed! Requested to talk to the Manager to ask for a partial reimbursement but was no manager on duty. Ms. Maby from reservations department promised to call me back...still waiting.

"Sleepless Nights!!!"
aileeng177, 07 Décembre 2019

I am writing this from the hotel now. There is an extreme noise issue from a nearby bar (not on property) that blasted music through subwoofer until 3:30am last night (Friday). I requested a room change today and met another woman who were there for the same extreme noise issue. The second room is further away from the bar but the noise still keeps all of us awake. I can't wait to leave the hotel tomorrow! The phones in both rooms do not work, and the room amenities are bare minimum, no fridge no microwave. It's very unfortunate for the issues above as the hotel landscape is beautiful.

"Should be much better"
vilar30, 03 Décembre 2019

A beautifull property wasted by extremly rude front desk staff. Amazing to see animals walk in the property. Pool area is beautifull, large pool and big trees provide shade. Great location with ample parking

"Was better a few years ago"
tarpon321, 15 Septembre 2019

I've stayed at this hotel for many years but am not pleased this time around. The wifi is weak, the Casino is closed and the room was a little dirty. The breakfast buffet is actually fine and the pool and grounds are pretty nice.

"Could be better!"
Crossfire04, 05 Septembre 2019

Stayed here for a couple of nights before crossing the border to Nicaragua. The hotel grounds are very beautiful and well maintained. The pool is large and there are plenty of sun loungers. Very relaxing! Our room was comfortable, modern and clean. The air conditioning unit seemed quite small for the size of the room, though it kept the room at a comfortable temperature but it still could have been a little cooler. There is a restaurant and bar next to the swimming pool. They do make nice cocktails but unfortunately on our second day they ran out of ingredients and cocktails were no longer available. The restaurant has an Italian theme and I would not recommend anyone to eat here. The food was expensive and tasteless. We ordered three different types of pasta, the portions were small and basically looked and tasted the same. There were little to no ingredients used and I think more than probably just reheated from frozen. One of the dishes we ordered was still cold. I would never eat here again it was awful and so disappointing. There are far superior places to dine at in the surrounding neighborhood. The breakfast was included in the price, there was a small buffet with a selection of hot and cold dishes, not a wide variety available and again it could have been better. The internet was very problematic all over the hotel. Despite the above issues, I did enjoy my stay here due to the comfortable rooms, the staff and the hotel grounds.

"Noise all night from bar"
SoCalRascal, 19 Août 2019

The noise starts at 10pm and doesn't end until 3:30am. The guard stands watch and they block off the front parking spaces because of the problems associated. If you want a good night of sleep, do not stay here. The windows and walls in the rooms vibrate due to the noise. The staff at reception all are more interested in their whatsapp and act like you are disturbing them by asking them to do their job. The housekeeping staff and maintenance staff are very professional and friendly and fo an excellent job intereacting with the customers. The owner should fire all of the workers in reception; it is clear that they hate people asking for them to actually work..especially if you are from the US and they are not professional enough to hide that fact.

"Lacking Hospitality"
jkh6na, 12 Juillet 2019

I cannot recommend this location to other travelers. Despite a wonderful location and lovely, peaceful property, my experience would not be imaginable at other institutions in Costa Rica and other countries. From the onset, the hotel was very suspicious that my friend who joined me during check-in after picking me up from the airport was trying to stay for free in my accommodations (which contained two rooms, although she lives in Liberia a short distance away). Feeling uncomfortable, she left later that afternoon and returned the next day to join me at the pool. She and other visitors were asked to pay to join paying customers at the pool. In essence, to have any visitors, you must pay a fee. These visitors are also expected to leave at 5pm - this was enforced rudely. We soon arranged for me to visit her outside of the hotel. This is unacceptable for a hotel.

"One night stay"
Margie P, 09 Juillet 2019

We stayed here both when we first landed in Costa Rica and when we left. The room was decent, comfortable. But, both times we had some kind of plumbing problem and that sort of made the stay not as nice. i am sure it isn't always like that. The pools looked great, we didn't get to swim due to lightning. The breakfast was good. Staff was nice and helpful. It is close enough to the airport, maybe a 15 minute drive. The casino can be loud, but not always - the first stay no nois, the second stay- loud most of the night...

"Maybe see what else you can find in the area..."
bchgrrrl, 23 Juin 2019

The hotel, while convenient to the rental car agencies and airport, was underwhelming. The hotel, some of the grounds and rooms are in need of upgrades. The rooms are outdated and dilapidated. The beds were like sleeping on boards. There is a restaurant on premise, but they do not offer room service. The food was pretty underwhelming as well. The pool area was nice, complimentary breakfast was minimal. It was odd too that they made us wear wristbands as a guest, didn't make sense. We never had to show it to anyone, and it never offered us any onsite privileges. No lift to get to the second floor rooms, only stairs.

"Pretty centrally located for airport or meeting place for other destinations"
shelley l, 04 Juin 2019

Rooms decent. Quiet. Clean. Reception is understaffed and sometimes have longish waits. walking distance to pickup for transportation to Nicaragua. Food is pretty decent. Atmosphere relaxing. Bed comfortable.

"Lovely and relaxing"
Joan S, 04 Juin 2019

Nice place to relax and regroup after an eighteen hour flight. Lovely swimming pools, open air restaurant by the pool. Nice clean rooms with mich needed air conditioner. Employees are kind and helpful. In general, a very calm and and relaxing place

"Not good"
Trail43588226756, 25 Mai 2019

The positives are it's clean and breakfast is good. The negatives are it's dated, the beds are terrible, toilet paper is dispensed 1 by 1, very poor wifi internet. Security and front desk had to be called 3 separate time to address other guest partying in front my room and in corridors, no respect for other guests.

"Terrible service, lack of respect with customers"
FelipeGrandiG, 08 Mai 2019

We booked this hotel via Booking.com. When we arrived we found out the hotel had not received our reservation, a problem according to them between their system and Booking.com. As a clue they sent us for another hotel in the city (Las Espuelas). When we arrived there we found this hotel had lower standards than Best Western. Worst: the rates were higher and the previously agreed upon rate would not be honored. Best Western didn't offer to solve the issue with Booking.com, and we were left to solve the issue by ourselves. A complete lack of respect with customers. Never more!

"Better than expected."
Love2travel19892, 24 Avril 2019

After reading a few reviews, we set our expectations pretty low. To our pleasant surprise our room (#4) was very clean, modern and quiet. There is no shuttle to the airport BUT here's what we did. We were only staying overnight in Liberia heading to Dreams resort the following morning and wanted to see a few of the local sites like the Cortez waterfall (see pics) so we rented a car through carrental.com. Instead of paying $20. - $25 each way to/from the airport, we rented a car for only $4.00. Yes four dollars plus $10 for insurance through enterprise. This saved us a ton of money and we had the car all day today until our shuttle up to Dreams. The Best Western was at the beginning of town and walking distance to restaurants, bars etc. Our room was very modern with a fridge, walk in show and flat screen TV. There was 2 nice pools, a hottub and plenty of lounge chairs. There is also a casino attached to the hotel with slots and card games Over all we'd recommend this location and would stay here again.

"Just so so."
Deborah B, 21 Avril 2019

The hotel was just mediocre. Loose wires above bathroom mirror where a light should have been. Very bare basic. I booked because it was a Best Western. Not up to Best Western standards that I'm used to. Ac was very loud.

"Cultural Experience"
Roam60837325278, 21 Avril 2019

Enjoyed our stay at BW El Sitio - the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were average - ours was a bit outdated - but we spent most of our days at the pool or on adventures. Breakfast was good - pool area was clean and nice - plenty of seating areas - secured parking lot and on-site security detail. Close to many excellent restaurants and only a 30 min drive to the beach.

"Quick overnight stay"
farbiedoll, 19 Avril 2019

This was a good choice for a quick overnight stay. Price was right for the length of stay and close to the airport. Rooms were clean, but nothing fancy. Breakfast was Ok. Pool was nice. Did not find the staff to be overly friendly or helpful. We were able to walk into town to find a place to eat dinner at. We were on the second floor and would loved to have opened our windows, but the guest on floor below us was always out smoking on his little patio and the smoke came directly up to our window. Ugh!

"Beware!"
Donald Y, 06 Avril 2019

This Hotel advertises on Booking.com. It says it offers a shuttle to and from the Airport. It does NOT offer such a service you will have to pay your own way($50US), an expense I had anticipated on having. We also requested early check-in, owning to early flight arrival. The hotel would not let us in, told us to sit out by the pool till 3pm (4hours in 100+ heat). It was only when I insisted that I speak to the manager, did they start to listen to me, and they let us in early with a nice ground floor room. I found out that the Best Western dont even own a shuttle, so why advertise?? There was NO tourist information anywhere in the hotel, so dont expect too much help in that department. The WiFi was down more than it was up, everyday there were periods of NO wiFi. The Hot Tub was broken, looks like it has seen better days, The hotel is situated across from a Nite-ciub/bar. They have a live band playing every Friday and Saturday, with the music turned up LOUD and I mean LOUD, none of the residents got any sleep till afer 3:am......so beware. Hotel was clean with a nice pool area, breakfast was ok but NOT great, Just beware this hotel has a lot of shortcomings, even though it is well located to downtown.

"Return visit no so great."
ticajean, 23 Mars 2019

The Best Western El Sitio has seen better days. We have stayed there many times for its proximity to the airport and reasonable rates. Unfortunately, the rates have gone up and the amenities down. The staff is still pleasant and friendly, the rooms are large and extremely clean. They are very sparsely furnished. We had to sit on the bed to eat a pizza. The internet was continually down. The television needed a service call..There was NO PHONE in the room (what about an emergency during the night?) The restaurant was seriously under staffed...the poor bartender was also the waiter and bus boy..The wooden tables were not clean and in serious need of refinishing. Breakfast was sad....food at dinner was acceptable...at best. The traffic was so bad we chose not to brave looking for a better restaurant. The swimming pool is still the best part of the hotel and the deck furniture very nice. The huge trees make you feel like you are in a giant green oasis. Hopefully the hotel will take a turn for the better because the proximity to the airport is convenient. I really don't like writing negative reviews...but it had to be done. Another positive point is the very nice children's play area. Only one small bath towel per person, no face cloths or hand towels. only pump liquid soap in the bathrooms.

"Awesome"
Paradise823032, 20 Mars 2019

I ended my trip in Costa Rica with a stay at BW in Liberia. What an incredible property with a grand pool area and facility. I was BLESSED with an upgrade and it was just what I needed. The staff was professional and very courteous. Great place to begin or end a stay in Costa Rica.

"A great stay and a great staff"
AZBirdman, 18 Mars 2019

This hotel is less than half the rate of the hotel closest to the Liberia Airport. We found the hotel to be much more in line with the local flavor of Costa Rica than the sterile environment next to the airfield provided. This hotel's design has a bit of wild tropical flare, with large trees surrounding the property, an open air restaurant, and tropical birds singing around the property to add to the atmosphere. One of my fellow travelers had a medical emergency during our stay that was not associated with anything to do with the hotel. However, the staff provide excellent care and comfort to our friend until help could arrive and transport him to a local hospital. This event prevented us from having a complete experience at the hotel but what we did have up to that point was excellent.

"El sitio"
wandap530, 09 Mars 2019

This hotel is a great place to overnight when arriving or leaving via the Liberia airport. The staff are friendly and front desk staff speak excellent English . The value is excellent, if you are not looking to pay hundreds of dollars for a bed! The pool is a lovely way to start or end a holiday on the beach and breakfast is a bonus. The little mall next door has a couple of banks, a grocery store and a couple of restaurants and there are also well know fast food joints within walking distance if you are so inclined. A great place to stay.

"BEWARE OF NOISE!"
Agustin C, 08 Mars 2019

So my wife, 4 year old son and myself stayed in this hotel as we were oun our way to a camping trip to Reserva Junquillal. We decided to stay here on a Friday night, in order to rest comfortably before the camping days, what he never guessed was that we would not be able to sleep due to LOUD music. We went to bed at 9:30 am, and heard some musc playing. We hoped that it would stop soon, as it was so loud that it would not allow any of us to sleep. This went on until 3:30 am! We called front desk on numerous occasions to no avail. At 5:30am we woke up to continue our trip, sleepless, and frustrated. As for the installations, this is a very old building that has been recently refreshed. As part of the updates, the floor, furniture and doors were changed, which are nice, however, there are no elevators for the second floor, the bathrooms are small, the restaurant is pretty bad, and service is lacking. If you are considering this hotel, make sure that it is not during the weekend.

"Great place!"
shelbie3, 13 Février 2019

This place was great! We got in late to the Liberia airport and stayed the first night here, before taking off to Tamarindo the following day. We were warmly welcomed. The place is clean and well taken care of. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious for the price. The grounds are lovely. We were late to breakfast but were encouraged to still get some food. Yummy rice and beans! We will be staying again next week the night before our departure. Thanks!!

"Stayed in a Room on the Second Floor and on the First Floor"
PAB480, 12 Février 2019

Hubby and I chose El Sitio because it was close to the airport. The first two days that we stayed there, we were on the 2nd floor. There is no elevator so if you are carrying a lot of luggage, you might have some problems. Our room had WIFI, a safe and a flat screen TV. The room was comfortable with two exceptions: there was a constant loud wind sound and the toilet paper came out in little sheets from a container vs a toilet roll. We checked out of the hotel while travelling to another part of Costa Rica. We checked back in for one night and this time we were put into a room on the first floor. This room had been recently renovated. It was very nice and quiet. Because the entrance to the room was from the inside, there was no wind noise. It was very comfortable. The free breakfast was tasty with several options. The gym is larger than most hotel gyms and has a nice amount of equipment. We would stay there again.

"Gréât for families "
russellsmanagement_1, 10 Février 2019

The location is great and the grounds are really good if you have children, pool, mini playground and big hallway. Breakfast is served from 6am which is also nice for the early riser. Hot showers, a/c and definitely recommend for a few night.

"Pleasant Stay at Best Western El Sitio"
KAYCornwall, 06 Février 2019

We stayed at this hotel for a week while getting dental work done in Liberia. We have stayed here several times in the past and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. It's a 3 star hotel. As far as we know there are no 4 or 5 star hotels in Liberia. Most people are here for a short duration since the hotel is close to the airport and people are coming and going every day. We found the rooms clean, with quiet air conditioning which you definitely need during the night here. We changed rooms after discovering that the rooms on the inner court are very quiet, while the rooms facing the parking lot pick up the loud music from the bar across the street until early morning hours. There is no door on this bar so naturally the music resonates everywhere. The buffet breakfast is very filling and nutritious but very repetitive if you are here more than 2 days. Eggs, beans and rice and 3 choices of fruit are offered everyday. I would make the following suggestions: butter instead of margarine, better quality bread, bacon or decent sausage and generally a bit more variety. Bacon is not very expensive in CR and would make the breakfast more varied. Staff are very helpful and will try to help. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return.

"Short but Worth it!"
Wench117, 04 Février 2019

Spent 1 night. Close to airport. Room big. 2 queen beds, quite comfortable. Access to rooms down open corridors with tropical plants. Tiled and clean. Recycle bins everywhere. Grounds manicured. Great pools. Hot tub is portable. Restaurant on grounds convenient but mediocre. Breakfast was included in our low rate of $65. It was a mediocre buffet. Overall, if need be, I'd stay again because of rooms, convenience, grounds and value.

"Not What Expected for a Chain Name Hotel"
Vicki N, 28 Janvier 2019

The courtyard of the hotel is quite nice. tropical. The rooms were dirty and place run down. The restaurant gave 500 colones for $1 US dollar. (The exchange rate was 645 colones at the time and when we asked we were told we were wrong) So, a 6 piece shrimp cocktail , small glass of house wine and a very bad coffee was $29 USD. basically f, avoid the restaurant. Breakfast is typical for "free' breakfast. Pool there, but filthy .No one was swimming with the algae. Air conditioning blasted cold directly on one bed, rest of room warmish. The shuttle from airport isn't run by the hotel as it sounded to me when I spoke with them, $20 USD each way.

"Good central location in Liberia and free breakfast."
568ronaldt, 27 Janvier 2019

I visited Costa Rica and and stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. I wish I could have turned on the ceiling fan without having all the lights on, especially at night. I love free breakfasts and it is a good way to start the day before exploring the city and the country. Dinner at the restaurant was also very good. If you can't stand to be away from fast food, a number of the big chains are nearby. There is a grocery store in the block next to the hotel if you need sunscreen or bug spray (it was so windy I actually needed neither). It is a short walk into the central part of the old city where you can find a number of places to eat and shop.

"A filthy dump"
Tour54421255942, 25 Janvier 2019

Extra charges added to my room bill with NO explanation. Trying to fight that out now. Shower hanging off wall. Had to hold it in my hand to take a shower. Filthy bathroom. I asked for a wake up call which they failed to do - luckily I woke up in time for my early flight.Nice food staff though,

"Vacation stay at this Best Western"
John H, 15 Janvier 2019

great place to stay. Centrally located to visit a lot of the sites around Liberia. Shuttle to the airport. Can travel to the Pacific coast and beach it in one day. Beds are average but low to the ground

"Great place to stay in Liberia"
923timothyw, 15 Janvier 2019

El Sitio is a great place to stay when you're arriving in Costa Rica. It has a beautiful garden and pool area and the restaurant is certainly fine. Rooms are clean big and everything is very well organized. We like to stay here because it has a real sense of Costa Rica. There are five very large old Guanacaste trees in the plaza of the hotel by the pool. Very friendly staff that speak English very well for the foreigners that need that.

"Old, moldy and dusty rooms"
Justine_Sade, 13 Janvier 2019

To be completely fair we were not expecting much from the hotel after reading all the reviews but we still decided to book it as it was the best option for our one night stay going and coming back from Nicaragua. The hotel doesn't have an elevator so if you have a room upstairs and a trolley with you then good luck as you need to take them up the stairs and back and there are not only 5 stairs to go up. The room we had smelled funny and in the end we decided to sleep with the windows opened. We realized the smell came from the mold on the ceilings and also we had dust nets hanging next to the curtains. The room itself is big but it gives you the feeling that everything is old and haven't been washed properly. The bathroom is quite small and as a recommendation I would not step barefooted in the shower. Everything gives you a sensation of old, dusty and unclean. The sheets were meant to be white, I would rather say that after so many uses and washes they were rather a white-grey color. When we came back and was given the same room, we complained knowing what was waiting for us but then they said they fixed the mold problem. Indeed they added a layer of white paint which smelled so badly we again had to sleep with our windows opened. Do not know which smell was worse the mold or the paint covering it. The breakfast I would say was rather decent but if you come in late then do not expect to find too many things to eat from the options. And the people serving and cooking for breakfast don't seem rather keen of making more if they do not see too many people sitting at the tables. Birds come and eat from the crumbles or dishes on the table but I did not mind that much to be fair. The place has a pool, place for kids to play and quite spacious but again it gives you the feeling of old and not maintained so even with all these extras it doesn't improve the experience. Like I said we were not expecting much from the place but we were expecting at least to be clean if not the newest hotel in town and it was not even that. If other options we would pick another place for sure.

"Don't believe all of the negative reviews!"
Costaricatravelling9, 07 Janvier 2019

Had a great experience here! Was slightly dubious due to the bad reviews but truly had a great time. Room spacious, modern, clean and quiet! Pool beautiful ( was reviewed as dirty - a few leaves in but to be expected when trees around). Staff friendly and helpful! Great stone baked pizzeria on the grounds of the hotel

"Spacious and nice"
Gloria A, 30 Décembre 2018

Very nice pool area surrounded by nature and helpful staff. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The hotel offers also a gym (i tried it and everything works!), a tennis court and a football field. There are shops and supermarkets (such as Walmart) nearby, as well as the Liberia Airport that is only 15 min. away by car. Definitely the best solution - considering the value for money - if you are planning a trip in the north of Costa Rica.

"All of our stuff was gone!"
3rdCircus, 27 Décembre 2018

My wife and I had booked a room from Wednesday to Saturday. Although the hotel doesn't offer much in my opinion, everything was normal until Friday afternoon. We had left our hotel room at 9am and we returned at around 6pm. We went back to our room and opened the door (room key still worked) and guess what? All of our stuff was gone! Our personal belongings, clothes, bags... everything. Even my dirty clothes! Yup, everything was stolen, we thought. We went to the lobby to report it and turns out, hotel staff had removed our stuff from the room. They said our reservation ended that same day which is why they removed our stuff. After only 3 minutes of checking ourselves and asked for a printed copy of our reservation, they realized the mistake they had made. Our booking was in fact until Saturday (the after this incident) and simply said "we apologize". We had to take our things back to the room. I asked to speak with the manager but he was not in so I expected a visit from him the next day... nothing happened. Anyway, we left hating this place and we're still waiting for a message from Edgar Ovares, the hotel manager. Be careful if you plan on booking this place. Make sure you have everything in order, if not, they will screw you. If you can, choose another hotel! FYI: A complaint has been made against this hotel for violation of privacy and consumer rights.

"Jungle like setting, excellent service"
wendygL6226FC, 09 Novembre 2018

The receptionist, Josselyn A. was extremely and helpful to us. Upon arrival, our credit card was non functional and she was instrumental in helping us to dial the necessary numbers rectify that situation. She also took the care and time to print our bus schedules and recommended the best connection times to Fortuna. Spacious Room 2 was quiet and the a/c plus large ceiling fan kept the room comfortable. We ate a poolside lunch with a G & T, beer for $26CAD. I recommend this hotel.

"Terrible Place - Insolent front desk staff and unhealthy facilities"
net01nj, 08 Novembre 2018

Stay away from this place. We arrived last night, trusting the best western name. Before giving credit card, they informed us that room had air con/fan/hot water. None of those items worked. The weather was very hot, it was impossible to rest even without a working fan. We called the front desk to request move to another room, and they rudely claimed they were fully booked. They were annoyed we were seeking assistance. By then they had our credit card and refused to give a refund. The shower did not function properly either. They sent the night guard, who was even rudder than the front desk agent. We requested to speak to the property manager, and they claimed that the manager was not available until mid afternoon of following day. The other hotels around the area were fully booked, so we did not had a chance to pick up and go. The conditions of this place are totally unacceptable. They should be shut down.for providing rooms under those conditions.

"Good location bout 10 minutes from LIR"
roadadvisor, 02 Novembre 2018

Perfectg place if you need a hotel close to LIR and Pan Am Hwy. If you arrive late or flying out early it is a perfect palce. Also good food...nice pool Rooms are nice and big... Great palce also if you are travelling by bus to Central America.

"2 AM WAKE UP PARTY NEXT DOOR!"
By-Land-Wind-or-Sea, 13 Octobre 2018

We got in fairly late from our travels that day from the Nicoya Peninsula. We were very tired and grabbed a quick bite and went to bed. At 2:30 in the morning we were awaken by the room next door dancing to music blasting and what sounded like an after party from the disco across the street. The three guys had picked up three girls to come party in their room. How they got through the front desk??? So, our night of sleep was ruined. The next day I was upset and the manager said sorry for the inconvenience and though he couldn't refund the night- he would credit me a night on my next stay to compensate. Yet, when I called to make the reservation he no longer offered to do that though he remember the incident and everything. So now I am writing this review to let other clients know what happens at this hotel. They are across from some sort of disco and that if your there on the wrong night your whole nights sleep can be ruined and they don't really care because they have your money already. Would not recommend this hotel even if it is affordable.

"Very helpful and clean"
Joan S, 08 Septembre 2018

It is nice relaxing place to stay after a long flight. The pools and gardens are lovely. The restaurant was outdoors and close to the pool. The food was great. The employees were very helpful. The room was clean and spacious.

"Overnight Stay"
Jon H, 30 Juillet 2018

When we fly into Liberia, we often rent a car and immediately head out on the road to our vacation home in Sámara. This time, we decided to stay overnight in Liberia. The Best Western El Sitio was recommended to us, and we're happy we tried it. It was clean and comfortable, with a helpful staff who provided great advice on local events, dining, and shopping. After a good night's sleep and a nice buffet breakfast, we were ready for our 2 hour drive. We plan to use this hotel each time we travel through LIR in the future.

"Great for overnight stay"
Uptownfoody, 28 Juillet 2018

We had a good experience here. Rooms were spacious, clean new linens great AC. Toilets modern. Breakfast which was included was reasonable nothing fancy. Quick stop over as we head to Tamarindo in the morning.

"Less than expected"
Vinicio C, 09 Juillet 2018

It's not like you expect a grandiose experience out of a Best Western, but within the scope the franchise provides this is definitely on the low-end side. The hotel seems old (not in a vintage kinda way), with very few "modern features" here and there (can electronic doors and a pool continue to be considered a commodity?). The room I stayed in was close to the street so it was a bit noisy throughout the Friday night I spent there. Rooms are fairly priced though, and the breakfast was ok. Other than the Hilton Garden Inn nearby (which almost doubles the price, and for good reason) this seemed like the best option in the area. I do hope it isn't :s

"Stop-over on a costa rica round trip"
Alpi1605, 30 Juin 2018

Let me start with the positive thing: the pool area is OK To the Hotel: We stayed there 1 night on a costa rica road trip and would not do again. The room size was OK but on the walls mold was spreading already due to wet walls. The smell in the room was also not very nice. This hotel needs defenitly to be re-furbished. Bathroom was very old but at least it was clean. Breakfast was OK but defenitly no highlight. This is not Best Western standard. Overall: not recommended, will not stay there again

"Basic Hotel"
Markie T, 14 Juin 2018

This place was very basic. The mattresses were very hard and not all that comfortable, the casino was not open (apparently still under renovations), the shower head in our room was broken, the wifi only worked the first night then it was spotty. All the staff members were very nice and the food at the restaurant was delicious. I would not stay at this hotel again but it is a good place to stay if you have to stay for one night only.

"Good location "
AstraB253, 09 Mai 2018

This hotel has a really great breakfast and nice pool area. The rooms are older and not fancy. There is someone at the desk 24 hours, there is no shuttle. Plenty of parking and there is a playground for kids. A gym with older equipment and no air conditioning. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner as there is just a wash in the shower on the wall that is a body and hair wash in one and it's terrible. You are very close to good restaurants and banks. There were reviews about the night club across the street being noisy and we didn't here it at all and spent three night here. You are about ten minutes by cab from the airport.

"Great Breakfast!"
Richard-Martha, 05 Mai 2018

Part of our Monteverde day tour through Mardigi Tours, was stopping here for an authentic Costa Rican breakfast. It was served buffet style. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The coffee was Costa Rican and tasty. The landscaping with green trees, beautiful flowers and an attractive swimming pool was a very relaxing sight. Too bad we had to continue our tour and not be able to enjoy the pool...but off to our adventure. Thanks for being so welcoming.

"Self employed"
Boyzie M, 26 Avril 2018

I go to Costa Rica and also Liberia, at least 4 times a year and very filimular with that area and the hotel. I stayed there once 5 years ago and it was very bad. I heard they had a new owner and had done some renavations and changes. So l thought l would give it another shot. My room were very nice, staff was great,. free breakfast was average. I would have given them a 5 but they messed up my check out date. And had to check out a day earlier then originally had scheduled, even though it was their fault. Which was a major inconvenience. You should never let a customer suffer, because of your mistake. Luckily l have friends that have a house , we're l spent my last night.

"Not a good choice"
Maximo C, 24 Avril 2018

We choose this hotel as our headquarters for an entire family because of my daughter´s wedding. I was very disappointed because all of the rooms we took had issues. A/C that didn't work and the guests needed to change to another room. Door locks, phones, hair dryer, light bulbs, among others, didn´t work. And we had an emergency that needed immediate management attendance and he never showed up. On the good side, the staff on site was very kind and tried their best but couldn't do much about our complains. Breakfast was OK. The restaurant was OK. I would not stay there again. They wouldn't take a $100 bill to pay for your stay. I thought Best Western would endorse higher quality hotels. On the good side, the staff on site was very kind and tried their best but couldn't do much about our complains. Breakfast was OK. The restaurant was OK. I would not stay there again.

"Unacceptable "
worldtraveler634, 21 Avril 2018

In spite of two emails sent before check-in and room paid for two nights prior to arrival, my room had been rented to other clients. This is absolutely unprofessional and disrespectful. So you should give a miss to this place as alternatives are available.

"PERFECT LOCATION"
idpuckey, 20 Avril 2018

The hotel was a great place to stay for the 2 nights. the location was perfecter all the things you may need.It is on what they call the American corner, with Burger King,Popa Johns,Quiznos, and KFC all in easy walking distance. Also a Walmart close by.there is a steakhouse (highly recommend) beside McDonalds ,also 5 min walk.there is a Mall and Scotia bank beside hotel as well.It is only 10 min. to airport by cab. Although casino was closed for renos, it would have been nice to try, they are however slated to reopen in June/2018.loved the pool, also have a kiddie pool, and did notice some tennis courts there too .rooms are basic, however no mini fridge or accessible ice, must get from the tiki bar. I would definitely revisit this hotel, and hope you do the same if ever in Liberia

"Average"
crobert555, 17 Avril 2018

Stayed a couple for nights on a business trip. Very bad customer experience at the front desk starting at the time I made the reservation – never got my confirmation email even though I request it two times. Huge line for checking in. Rooms are ok for the price and considering it's a 3 star hotel, but A/C did not worked properly and the bed was totally uncomfortable. Good breakfast.

"There are better options "
albertachickCalgary, 11 Avril 2018

Stayed here one night only because it was close to the airport. We chose this because of the location, the price and the pools. However, since we only had the morning to use the pools before the flight we were very disappointed to find them dirty and not open for use until later in the morning. The rooms are very run down but were clean. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable as were the linens. The staff were very nice but it didn't make up for the poor quality rooms. Also, while the breakfast is included it was also poor. I would not recommend staying here until the rooms are renovated and there are other hotel choices closer to the airport.

"Excellent location ! Great service ! Big pool !"
114franciss, 08 Avril 2018

My wife and I stayed five nights at the Best Western, The location is great ! Walmart, McDonalds, KFC, supermarket, shopping mall are all within 5 minutes walk. Bank of Nova Scotia (we are from Toronto, Canada) and other banks are right next to Best Westwern (exchange rate was US$1 = 490 Colones at the airport, US$1=550 Colones at Scotia Bank). The pizza stall/house (right next to Best Western) has a firewood oven to make our delicious pizzas ! The two double-bed room is huge (about 350 square feet). All the staff were very nice, from front-desk to the restaurant staff. The hotel is located inside the city. Yet, the huge premises and lots of big trees make it an oasis feeling. The rooms are located far from the street. I agree with some of the reviews (such as the bathroom is dated, the air conditioner is not powerful enough). However, the hotel price is also a lot cheaper than the beach resort. We picked Best Western because we knew we would be busy doing all outdoor activities during the day time, and we did not need the all-inclusive resort meals and activities.

"Old hotel..... bad service "
J G, 31 Mars 2018

Starting at front desk, clerk was not nice. No towels in room, needed to ask for them and never came. A/C doesn't work. Small A/C unit for the size of the room. Had to clean filters and that didn't help. Room and hotel looks outdated.

"Terrible "
Travellingfamily003, 30 Mars 2018

Terrible terrible terrible! Loud, lousy rooms, hard beds, poor food. Pool was nice but there are a lot of those around. If you can find anyplace else, do so. Stay in another city if you need to. This hotel is just that bad!

"Not great "
JanaLB, 14 Mars 2018

Water was cold in shower. Beds very hard. Room did not look like picture on their website. Bathroom very dated. There was a basket in bathroom counter for amenities only it was empty and there was a wrapper left on desk from last guest.

"Nice pool, odd food"
Harvey M, 16 Février 2018

Best feature here is the huge circular pool on expensive grounds. Rooms are good-sized snd adequate, though a bit worn, and personnel are typically friendly in the Costa Rican manner. Our “beef” was with the food. The included breakfast had limited choices. I ordered fajitas at dinner. This supposedly Mexican course was just a few strips of beef served with fries!—no tortillas, beans, hot sauce, nothing. And worse, my wife's club sandwich had bones in the chicken, downright dangerous. Obviously, the chef came from Mars, but luckily, there are alternative fast-food options nearby. The hotel is easy to find, at the exit of the main highway.

"Perfect for what we needed!"
Jaclyn W, 18 Janvier 2018

Stayed here for the first three nights of our Costa Rica trip. It is the perfect location for us as it was near the airport and for our day trip to Nicaragua. The place was clean, friendly staff, close walk to Liberia, good Wi-Fi, and the pool area was better than expected. There was some noise at night as there is a club (Bar Supremacy) across the street that plays loud music late into the night Thursday through Sunday I believe, but we brought earplugs in preparation.

"Meh...skip if you can"
shawn c, 12 Janvier 2018

Well, we were excited to stay for pool, on site restaurant, and casino. Casino was closed restaurant was closed, pool was open. AC worked in the room, room was clean, beds were not that great, water was warm, but not hot in the shower. Grounds were really, really dark. Restaurant opened around 8:00 pm, although no one could tell us when it would open...they had said maybe 9 or 9:30??? No tequila, no rum, no vodka, we were offered Gin and tonics???? French Fries with sausage were frozen french fires with a hot dog cut up on top. Overall meal was on the lower end of ok. No New Years eve activities :-( Glad to get a move on the next morning.

"Decent spot to start our Costa Rica adventure"
HappyInBlueJeans, 09 Janvier 2018

While this is by no means a “resort” at which I would choose to spend a week it was certainly better than I expected based on some reviews. It served as an ideal location to start our 3 week exploration of Costa Rica after a midday arrival at Liberia airport. We checked in at 2:00 pm and the pleasant reception staff advised us our room would not be available until the “official” check-in time of 3:00 pm. No worries; we pulled up a couple of chairs in the shade poolside, connected to WiFi and chilled for an hour. The room was indeed ready at 3:00 and we were pleased to find it was spacious and bright. It was clean and fresh with ceramic tile floors throughout and also tiled walls in the bathroom...no carpeting or drywall that often produces musty smelling rooms in tropical climates, especially in older hotels. It was an easy 20 minute walk to the centre of town, where we had a wonderful dinner at the delightful Tierra Mar restaurant....highly recommended! The bed was not particularly comfortable but we both had a good night's sleep nonetheless. We packed earplugs in case we encountered the loud music other reviewers had complained about. But on the Monday night we were there we didn't hear a sound and didn't need them. The WiFi signal was strong everywhere on the property and download speeds were surprisingly fast compared to many locations. The included breakfast buffet was pretty basic, but adequate. Overall it was a decent stay at a reasonable price.

"below average"
magdisami, 05 Janvier 2018

just checked in for one night. a dog in the next room barking for hours. the shower has no hot water by 9 pm. virtually no amenities . noisy room. pool is nice and it is close to a grocery store and a small shopping mall. Definitely not a place to stay in for very long.

"Good Location and 2 Night Stay"
major52, 27 Décembre 2017

Close to shops, local bus, downtown and airport. Very relaxed atmospere. Will stay again if in Liberia. Breakfast was the usual Costa Rican with fruit, beans, rice and scrambled eggs. Staff was friendly. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Great place if you have no rental vehicle.

"The Best pool"
Robert l L, 25 Décembre 2017

This hotel has a great pool! The rooms are ok the staff are great.it's very central located to get to all the beaches price is fare if you book on line you get a better price. All in all it's not a bad deal.

"Airport Hotel? Ok! Vacation Resort? No Way!"
td_ed, 22 Décembre 2017

Booked for one night for the convenience of being by the airport and it served its purpose. Location is good for that and it is walking distance to grocery and multiple restaurants. Hotel itself is run down. It's a shame because the grounds are quite lovely. Check in staff was friendly. Room was noisy on a Thursday night (read other reviews about the club across the street) and also had peeling paint and mold (see photo). Breakfast was "meh" but free. So it served its purpose for us but if you are looking for a vacation hotel keep looking!!

"Just gross"
Regan O, 21 Décembre 2017

Honestly one of the grossest hotels I've ever stayed in. Phone in our room didn't work. Staff barely spoke English which made communicating very difficult. Most hostels are better than this place. AVOID

"Bring Earplugs"
BobinDenver, 20 Novembre 2017

We stayed one night each on our arrival and departure from Liberia. The hotel is actually quite nice: convenient location, nice pool and gardens with resident 6 foot croc, good breakfast, nice room and shower, low price. The problem? There was a loud thrumming low bass coming from a rock club across the street that lasted until at least 5 am on Sunday night/Monday morning. The manager said the police won't do anything about it. If you stay here: 1) hope the club is closed that night, 2) ask for a room as far from the street as possible, 3) bring earplugs, or 4) go elsewhere.

"ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE HOTEL"
Zain K, 19 Novembre 2017

Several issues with our stay. Some key highlights: 1. There was very loud bass music playing through 5 AM! When complaining to the hotel, they said they could not do anything about this. 2. Phone line was broken 3. Management (and specifically the owner) was VERY rude and had no sense of customer service. I spoke directly to the owner (Italian guy) who happened to be at the hotel reception while discussing the noise issue. He was extremely abrasive and rude. The poor receptionist even told me how terrible of a person he is.

"Costa Rica stay"
Cameron H, 18 Novembre 2017

The rooms were clean and the staff pleasant. The towels were delayed and some need to be replaced as they are worn out. The restaurant evening meal was one very good one not very good. Breakfasts were mostly very good.

"Decent room, Amazing Restaurante"
Killrage8, 10 Novembre 2017

Decent room, a bit old but it was completely clean and organize. Amazing in house restaurant next to the pool. Great service and really good italian food. They have transport from the hotel to the airport but it cost extra.

"Decent rooms but avoid Friday nights"
BillChuckS, 01 Octobre 2017

This was our second stay at this hotel. Previously we stayed mid-week, but this time we stayed on Friday night - we had read some older reviews that music from the bar across the street can be loud, but we thought that may have been resolved. However, we heard a thumping "base" sound in our room from the bar across the street, from around 9 pm to 5 am. Although it was not extremely loud at our room, it was noticeable. We had not had this problem on other weeknights - otherwise we found the room acceptable. The food at the restaurant for lunch was mediocre - there are better restaurants nearby. The included breakfast was an acceptable Tico style buffet.

"Great introduction to Costa Rica"
ticajean, 28 Septembre 2017

El Sitio is a great first stop from Liberia Airport. Large airconditioned rooms (a must) the hotel property is pure Costa Rica with large trees, and birds. Pools are beautiful, breakfast included and good. Very good value, and a good start for your Costa Rican vacation. Staff is friendly and responsive. Rooms are very comfortable. Bring earplugs as some rooms are noise from the local disco. Ask for a quiet location. Easy walk to fast food, although the onsite restaurant is fine.

"One Night Stay"
AlexGainesville, 10 Septembre 2017

We stayed at this hotel for only one night. The staff was very friendly, the hotel itself was very clean and the hotel was nice! There was a Subway right across the street which is where we got our coffee because we were early-birds and the restaurant doesn't open until 6am and Subway was open at 5am. There is a shopping center right next door, within walking distance, with a grocery store and pharmacy. We would definitely stay there again, however, there were a few things I would like to see. Costa Rica is rainy 6 months out of the year. It happens to be rainy season now so after we checked in, we wanted to go to the restaurant. The restaurant was located on the other side of the grounds, behind the pool. It would have been nice to have some sort of covered walkway to the restaurant to avoid getting wet, as we did. The receptionist actually told us that "it never rains here, this is unusual". Um, okay, we live here...we know better. It was a big group of us who went to Liberia for the night so we all gathered at the restaurant. We were going to have some tequila to celebrate a birthday so we ordered some. The nice waiter told us "si hay, perl no tenemos" (means, there is, but we don't have any)...comical! That was fine we just had our dinner and our drinks and continued to celebrate. Three of us ordered the seafood soup. I was quite disappointed in my soup because I felt that it hardly had any seafood in it! My friend next to me ordered the same and she too felt like she was fishing for seafood in her soup! It seems that our friend across from us got our portions because his soup was FULL of seafood. A bit disappointing to us. I saw that people had complained about the channels only being in Spanish. We know Spanish so that would have been fine, however, we did find 2 U.S.A. network channels as well as CNN International (in English). We only had the TV on as we were getting ready to go out for the night. We were going to hit the Casino that night. Well, it seems that the Casino has been closed for over three months now. The receptionist should have told us that when we checked in I think. No big deal. We hung out with the kids while they swam in the pool. The beds in the hotel room were not very comfortable, but I did get a good nights sleep. When you are not sleeping in your own bed...other beds can be not so comfortable so it was fine.. Our friends in the room down from us said that they had no hot water, the pits. We did have hot water so no complaints there. I have to add that there is a bar/club across the street from the hotel. Our friends stay across the hall from us and heard the music into the wee hours of the morning, but they did get some sleep. We were on the pool/garden side of the hotel and I personally did not hear the music so no complaints there. I guess try to get a room on the garden/pool side. All rooms were nice, have free WIFI, clean, have a safe in the closet in the bathroom, have blackout curtains and friendly staff

"Good stay"
Fernanda J, 09 Septembre 2017

We were coming from San Jose and arrived here at midnight because our flight was at 3pm so we just needed a play to rest. ABOUT THE CLUB ACROSS THE STREET: when you enter the lobby it soy 's as if you were in the club. The music is so loud and I was afraid it was going to be like that in the room. But when we went upstairs and went to our room( very spacious), you couldn't hear anything. (or maybe in was just really exhausted). Breakfast was good. Buffet style. And they have 2 pools, one for young kids and toddlers and another for adults. There is also a small playground which is really nice for people travelling with kids and toddlers. In the restroom, the U.S. no toilet paper rolls but something like a Kleenex dispenser. There is also soap dispenser for hands and shower. No individual bottles.

"nice place for resting b4 or after flight"
Allan L, 30 Août 2017

we stay there for one night after we arrvied at Liberia. played tennis, walking distance to get food.. room is clean, wifi is good, better than other hotels i stay in Costa rica. Breakfast is included , it is very good buffet style. i enjoy my stay

"Great Hotel - Fair Price"
Gorka G, 02 Août 2017

Awesome hotel, centrally located, very beautiful and has great amenities. It has a large pool, a beautiful courtyard, well-equipped rooms, and is a 5 minute walk to the center of the city. The price was fair, and the airport is a 10 minute taxi ride that costs you 20 USD (rip off).

"A good choice not too far from the airport and for Liberia area"
BillChuckS, 13 Juin 2017

We stayed here one night when our extended family was flying out of the international airport at 6 am. We had a car and the drive to the airport took about 15 minutes early in the morning. The rooms were clean and comfortable - our rooms were not close to the street or casino (which appeared to be closed), so we did not have any issues with noise. We had three meals at the restaurant - breakfast (included with the room) was good, and I had an excellent filet mignon at a reasonable price. Some food was "just ok", but it met our needs and was convenient for the short stay. Staff was polite and helpful. They allowed us an early check-in on arrival as they were not that busy at that time.

"Clean, Convenient to Airport, and Many Birds in Back"
DesertBirder, 24 Mai 2017

This proved to be an ideal last location on my group's brief visit to northern Costa Rica. The hotel is kept clean, the staff is helpful, and the little "park" in back has quite a few birds! We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Italian restaurant on the premises had an accomplished chef who turned out excellent and very tasty fare in the Italian tradition. Our young waiter even said that he is an avid birder. The rooms are large and well equipped with amenities. The large pool, however, was reported to be "cloudy," according to my roommate. I should mention that I had requested rooms as far from the noisy casino as possible and that is what were were given. No noise issues for us! I was aware of the two small lagunas (ponds) in the back of the hotel's property, but I was pleasantly surprised to find more species of birds in residence there than I expected. It probably helps that the hotel seems to be providing food for about twenty Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. Two Green Herons and a Bare-throated Tiger-Heron and a number of smaller birds were there as well. Altogether, it was a pleasant way to spend our last night in Costa Rica--at least for this trip!.

"Very loud"
vacationgirl470, 07 Mai 2017

The hotel is right across the street from a bar and all night we heard very loud club music until 4:30 am, this was on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We slept very little. The pool was dirty, there were a few hairs left on the bathroom sink and toilet, the beds are very hard and springy. The hotel staff was nice and the restaurant was good with very nice wait staff. The location of the hotel is right in town and close to other stores and restaurants.

"Convenient hotel near airport"
AnneMaree619, 29 Avril 2017

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the airport in Liberia. We only stayed one night. You can easily walk to restaurants, grocery stores, banks, etc. Breakfast was crowded, but good. Playground was fun for the kids. Pool was great to relax and cool off before checking out and heading to our next destination. Room was simple and clean. A/C worked great, WiFi too. Stayed in a room away from the casino, so no problems with noise.

"close to airport but noisy!"
keeks2020, 27 Avril 2017

this hotel was one of the closest to the airport and it did offer a nice breakfast for free. It also has a few nice pools. It seems very crowded with locals using the pool. There is a casino attached to the hotel and there was music booming until about 2 am and we had to get up at 5 to catch our flight so that wasn't good. The bedding was horrible. It had thin blankets and uncomfortable mattresses. The bathroom was small and not so great amenities. They didn't give enough towels. The ice machine was near the eating area which was far from the rooms.

"Great place"
Ghet12, 26 Avril 2017

We only stayed for one night but I felt the room was clean. There was a nice pool area and the breakfast that was included was excellent. Cute outside bar area by the pool. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly.

"Not so good "
User, 18 Avril 2017

Very updated., rooms need some help ,nice pool and kids area . We were leaving early and promised breakfast boxes but when we did the check out the receptionist told us they forgot, not even apologetic. Very centrally located

"Worst Western"
TravelbeeSantaFe_NM, 08 Avril 2017

Surprised this hotel is still in the Best Western chain. At least several rooms nonfunctional. First one key did not work second air con did not work. One had smelly bathroom, and, believe me, we are not picky. Music from the casino pounded all night. Bed hard. Corners cut everywhere. Did look like the pool areas was nice -- especially for people with kids. We only wanted an overnight after a night flight into town. Do not attempt to drive in CR at night, and just find another hotel.

"Very disappointing"
Mike_from_Calgary524, 02 Avril 2017

You can tell at one time - this was a very nice hotel. Time however has been rough on it... We arrived at noon - and our room was not ready. No problem.... We went for a four hour hike and came back - yet still not ready. It took them 30 more minutes to get the room ready. Then when they did the keys did not work. Not once, but twice. The rooms themselves are old and covered in multiple layers of paint that are not fooling anyone, lack easily accessible outlets to charge electronics (you literally have to move furniture). The beds are old, and springy. The rooms themselves have a musty smell. Wifi was terribly slow (even by Costa Rican standards) and kept cutting out.

"This is the MOST amazing hotel in Costa Rica!"
jennifer m, 30 Mars 2017

Darn I wish I could remember everyone's name! This hotel was amazing. The staff makes it the best though their breakfast every morning with Costa Rican coffee was wonderful! Top that off by looking at the Macaws in the trees in the AM. My son and I spent Christmas 2016 here. We went to La Fortuna afterward as they were sold out. I immediately got an e mail from the manager that they had a room for us and we went back after spending 5 days in La Fortuna. The price you can't beat and I would think this is the number one place to stay if you fly in to Liberia. They do not have shuttle service but I guarantee if you e mail ahead of time it will only cost you 10 or 20 Colones equivelent to 10 or 20 USD. Also, this hotel does not rip you off for making other reservations foryou to travel and experience sites. If you take public bus to Co Co De Playa it isall of 1 USD. So, so worth it! Took a camarone out to sea and there were hundreds of dolphins everywhere! This place is awesome and when you enter your room you are actually surrounded by palm trees and in the rainforest! Would never stay anywhere else and I plan to return! I just read what pawji wrote; really? Raving? so far from it. Maybe he/she was raving when they wrote it! Nothing of the like. Maybe they should have brought a nanny or not traveled with children as I never did til they were grown?

"Inexpensive Option near Liberia Airport"
sputnik1784, 19 Mars 2017

Basic rooms with a surprisingly nice pool area near Liberia Airport. The facilities themselves aren't much to write home about (though the pool and restaurant are nicer than you might expect). Rooms can be loud, depending on where you are, and the surrounding area isn't that attractive given that it's mostly filled with American fast food franchises. That said, if you're looking for a cheap place to stay that's close to Liberia airport then this may be your best option.

"Unless you plan on RAVING all night - I do not recommend"
Pawji, 10 Mars 2017

We stayed here on night in March as our flight from LAX-LIB arrived in the evening. We were so tired after traveling with 2 children and all any of us wanted to do was get into our room and go to sleep. The rooms are basic, which I expected, but they're borderline gross with the tp and soap dispenser (ala your gym). The beds are pretty terrible - it felt like there was a spring sticking into my back for most of the night. I had read the reviews and knew there would be a casino. I didn't expect the all night beat of rave music in my room. To make it worse it's not non-stop. So every hour or whenever the music would take a break, I'd wake back up when it started again. It was miserable...and lasted until about 5am. At some point in the night cannons were being fired off, not the hotels fault but between the music and the cannons, I got NO SLEEP. If you're up for a party, then you should totally stay here. I do not recommend for families or children. ooonce oonce ooonce...

"Nice for a stopover"
MichelleGee8, 25 Novembre 2016

We spent one night here on our way to Nicaragua. The location was perfect as the shuttles all meet at the shopping square which is right next to the Best Western. Our room was at the back of the hotel and was quiet. The wifi worked ok and the hot water was great. I had the best shower of my whole Costa Rica stay. The hot tub didn't seem to work when we were there . We tried the different settings but the water didn't heat up. The room was spacious, and clean but only had two power outlets for the whole room. We had to charge our laptop in the bathroom. Breakfast was buffet style and included scrambled eggs, gallo pinto, toast, cereal, fruit, coffee and juice. The hotel has a lagoon with a crocodile that they feed in the afternoon. We didn't get to see it as we checked out early. The only negative was that they don't have a free airport shuttle. A cab to the airport costs about $25 US.

"Lovely grounds"
Joyce D, 16 Novembre 2016

Rooms were clean. The grounds ( including 2 pools and hot tub ) were quite lovely..huge trees, lots of plants, numerous deck chairs. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Free breakfast was kind of bland. Gallo pinto, scrabbled eggs, pancakes. Dinner was a disappointment. Caesar salad consisted of lettuce, small pieces of toast. Some bacon and a few pieces of cheese. Apparently the club sandwiches were only adequate

"Best Western El Sito"
pirateann, 15 Novembre 2016

The hotel was clean and the staff was professional however upon arrival a note on the bed informs you that when you checkout your room will be inspected before you leave. We informed the desk that we only had one towel, no shower curtain and few of the electrical outlets worked. The sliding windows in the room on the ground floor could not be locked. The worst part was the loud music that played all night long with so much base that it vibrated the bed Very unpleasant stay

"Not what is advertised"
JimfromCC, 18 Septembre 2016

I booked this hotel, because I had a good experience during my last trip to Liberia at their restaurant. The hotel web site advertises high speed internet access, internet access points in the room and hot water. I received none of these during my stay. The wifi in my first room did not exist. The front desk clerk informed me that they had been having issues with the wifi for over a month. He told me they were booked up and had no other rooms, until retracting and offering me a handicap room that had wifi. I moved to the new room and was able to connect for 10 to 30 seconds at a time, before needing to go through the whole access of the hotspot again. There was no data-port in the room to connect with, despite the reference to them in the room highlights. I went the night without internet access in my room. I called Best Western customer service, who informed me there was nothing they could do that night, but assured me the manager of the hotel would reach out to me in the morning. In the morning, I bathed in cold water, as there was not hot water. About check out time, I approached the front desk to check out. They processed my request and did not offer the manager, so I asked. 15 minute later, the manger emerges from the office directly next to the front desk and asks what I want. I explained my situation. The manager responds that he is sorry, but that the hotel had a lightning strike the week before. He went on to explain all that he had been dealing with since the strike... costs.... insurance claims and then looked at me with dead eyes. He offered nothing more than an apology. His story and the clerks were quite different. I am not sure who was lying, but one of them had to be. Probably one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I have complained twice, ever, in my various travels. This time, and the time the front desk clerk threw a early AM kegger outside my room. I was appalled at the lack of accountability, insight or intervention. I cannot recommend this hotel in Costa Rice. I have stayed in hotels in Liberia, Punta Arenas, Jaco, Tamarindo, La Fortuna and San Jose and could recommend all but this one. I notice that other reviews mention the night club across the street being loud. It is. Until 5am.

"Best Western - El Sitio, Liberia, Costa Rica"
Richard S, 18 Septembre 2016

The employees are very considerate and helpful. The internet availability is poor. The cost per night is fairly inexpensive and a bargain compared to upscale hotel chains. The hot breakfast buffet is good. Two beautiful pool areas. Great place to stay when on a budget.

"Way to save on your power bills, guys."
Robert W, 26 Août 2016

I wouldn't recommend staying here during any low season. IT was clear that there was an effort to cut on bills, as I didn't have hot water, the staff was a skeleton crew (very helpful, to be fair), and the restaurant was closed. Clean hotel, perfectly fine for a stopover, but not a good experience.

"Great value; caring customer service"
Tracie L, 12 Août 2016

I stayed a few nights at El Sitio on two separate recent occasions. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and the grounds are very nice. The pool is quite awesome and breakfast is plentiful. The staff - once again - was extremely personable and helpful. Nice to have a nightclub across the street, too!

"Beautiful Grounds, but loud!"
ElizzieB, 02 Août 2016

We stayed one night at El Sito after flying into Liberia. The kids loved the pool and the grounds were really pretty. But trying to sleep at night, with the sound of the disco going was impossible, and we had the air conditioner on high. We were probably the farthest room in the back you could get away from the casino and music, but it didn't matter.

"Clean, large hotel, slippery floors"
Francis H, 10 Juillet 2016

The BW El Sitio is along the road to the airport so it is convenient but can be a bit noisy. My room was towards the back of the property so I didn't have any noise issues though. It's close enough to walk to downtown but if you have a car, you may want to drive. I'd stay here again if I was in Liberia. The rooms are quite large and have AC. There are power plugs under the built-in nightstand so you'll have to get down low and unplug the alarm clock or lamp if you need to use them. There another outlet at the large desk. A couple bad things: the white tile floors are dangerously slippery. Be careful! The wonky showerhead in my room sprayed in all directions so it made a bit of a mess but hopefully other rooms don't have the same issue. There's a large pool and breakfast buffet was served in the banquet space beyond the pool. The in-room wifi was not great. Not sure if it was my particular room or if it's like that throughout the hotel. In general, wifi is pretty slow in CR. There's parking close to the entrance.

"lovely place"
Frederik O, 08 Juillet 2016

My girlfriend and I can definetly recommend this place. Nice and freindly staff, great food at the resturant, laundry service, which could come in handy and a pretty good gym. a few things could be added to make the place rally good, some turist info and a mini bar, which we would have liked, just for the option of cooling down our own water.

"Close to airport but buggy!"
Eileen/chris M, 27 Juin 2016

The hotel was close to the airport and inexpensive but buggy and absolutely nothing to do. There are no brochures and no one to help you make plans. Rooms have paper thin walls and you hear doors slamming and maids talking all night! Then when I woke up, there were all kinds of different bugs in the room. Couldn't wait to get out.

"A comfortable place to land"
Palmetta1, 19 Juin 2016

When our flight to San Jose was diverted to Liberia because of the active volcano Turrialba, I was happy when the taxi driver took us to El Sitio. I recognized it from a previous time many years ago when I'd made a reservation there and shown up, only to be told that there were no rooms available. All was forgiven and, in spite of the snootiness of the front desk staff (unchanged after all these years), we checked in. I revelled in the large and delightful pool and the sense of spaciousness in the lovely grounds. The food was so delicious in the hotel restaurant that we weren't motivated to venture anyplace else. The rest of the staff were friendly and welcoming and it was a great place to relax and regroup. When it was time to move on, we used the Target Car Rental in the hotel and found the service to be excellent, both by Joshua at the hotel, and the staff who picked the car up at our hotel in San Jose on departure.

"Not a Best Western hotel"
Roland D, 19 Juin 2016

We booked this hotel for our last night in Costa Rica because of the pictures of the pool area. Everything here is old. Our room smells moldy. Low standards. Not friendly staff. But we think, ok, not all the hotels can be so great. What the heck, it 's only for a night. My husband went to the casino. Complete ripp off!!! He played at the roulette, and the guy just kept on rolling the roulette till nobody had the "winning" number. My husband is used to go to casinos, and he never ever experienced such a ripp off. I wish we would have chosen a BB for less money. It's not worth the 100 dollars. Stay away from this place!

"Beautiful grounds. Nice rooms"
BiffCanlett, 07 Juin 2016

Its difficult to make a good choice of a motel in a foreign country. I flew into Liberia on Southwest since it was much less expensive than the flight to San Jose. The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and large. There are many birds and a few lizards. There was one pool with blue water, and one with green water. There is a nice little outdoor covered restaurant with complimentary breakfast, but the path to it from the hotel is uncovered, so make sure you have an umbrella handy. I was curious about the little electric alarm clock next to the bed, where there is NO ELECTRICITY near the nightstand ! I had to borrow an extension cord to power the CPAP which I must use at night. This was a trip hazard. The tile floor is very pretty, but very slippery when wet.

"Great place to stay"
Laurie S, 02 Juin 2016

The El Sitio is a nice place to stay. It is a typical Best Western type hotel.....meaning just does not possess the charm of other places I have stayed in Central America.....but a very nice place. Great rooms, pool ( though the pool was really green....), great but somewhat pricey restaurant, gym and a casino.

"Dont plan on sleeping"
gonewr, 30 Mai 2016

We stayed here for our last night in Costa Rica. Our first night we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn and was pleased. I wish I would have chosen HGI again. The Best Western has a nice lobby and pool area. The room was very outdated and not clean. It is not of Best Western standards at all. The worst part was the disco from across the street, blasted the entire night with no break until we left the next morning to catch our flight. Also, there was no hot water. We told the person at the front desk but all she could offer was a discount for next time. There will not be a next time. Spend the extra $ at the HGI.

"Loved it 98%"
Amanda E, 19 Mai 2016

We stayed here upon first flying into Liberia before heading to Nicaragua. We have 7 people and the rooms were more than big enough for us. Kept the AC and fan on and didn't see any bugs in the rooms. All the TV channels were in Spanish but it was cool. If you're a smoker FYI you cannot smoke on the property at all-you gotta go to the parking lot. There is a casino which I think we got a little ripped off at. The breakfast was amazing and free. There was monkeys there when we woke up! Little far from the city center (about a 20 minute walk-Ish) and you can't really go anywhere after dark without a group or a car. All in all would stay again though.

"Perfect End to trip"
HeatherTo77, 06 Mai 2016

We booked here as we had an early flight in the morning, and although not the closest to the airport - it was $60 cheaper than the one across the road. There is no shuttle, but they will arrange a taxi for you for $20. The hotel is very nice, and not a typical BW box layout. It has a beautiful pool (although we didn't swim). The bed was super comfortable, and the room was very nice. Hot water and airconditioning, what more did we need? Tip: Use up your colones at the casino :) We spent hours there 'losing' about $40 worth of colones - but it was worth it.

"Horrible Customer Service"
Kartgirl83, 06 Mai 2016

I booked the hotel through Expedia.com. They charged my card and everything was set. Once i went to check out they said that expedia wasn't paying them so I had to pay for the room again. Instead of them taking care of the issue they made me call and waste over 30 minutes of my time because they did not want to spend the time taking care of the issue. I do not recommend this place to stay as there are many nice places in Liberia where you will not have any issues.

"Hotel"
puppycargt, 04 Mai 2016

Beautiful pools and nice atrium halls!! Love the feeling of being outside!! Easy stop over to the airport!! Rooms were clean and food was good! Easy to get to / from airport. Close to a shopping mall. Nice to be able to pick up batteries, snacks for the ride to our other destinations, etc.

"Best Best Western"
JohneeCanuck, 02 Mai 2016

Stayed one nite. Made reservation 4 months previous to arrival. Extremely pleased with condition of building; outstanding R&R pool and dining areas; location (close to restaurants and other commercial outlets) and quality of my room. Staff went out of their way to assist me and I was in a ground-floor room (one king bed) with walkout access to gardens and pool. Breakfast was excellent and more than I had expected. Very short 15-minute ($20 US) taxi ride to airport. Air conditioned room but not as effective at cooling as I'd hoped for but acceptable (compared to jungles where I had stayed) - - ha ha.

"El Sito Costa Rica best western"

"Beautiful pool, great room service and crocodiles!"
RTWMagazine, 22 Avril 2016

The hotel is beautiful and was a true luxury for us after backpacking for 7 months. The grounds are huge and we were upgraded from a regular booking on booking.com. The star down is because of the misunderstanding on booking.com. When searching for a room for two adults, an option comes up in the search results for you to book a room for 1 adult and 1 child, even though you stated two adults in the search criteria. We obviously went for the cheaper option, because we were backpacking, and reception told us we had to pay an additional £15 on arrival. This is booking.com's fault, be aware when you are booking because the hotel will charge you the extra even though you are taking the same bed as a child would. The swimming pool is beautiful, the grounds get a lot of sun and the free breakfast was ok, though a little sparse in choice. The AC was a god send with the harsh humidity of Costa Rica. The highlight of the hotel was the crocodile laguna at the back, do not miss the opportunity to go and see the resident croc during feeding time in the late afternoon! We also saw Jesus Christ Lizards and many species of bird here too! The casino is accessible via reception and they have different food and drink offers every night, pop by and check it out.

"Great Beginning of CR Vacation"
Trisha F, 18 Avril 2016

We stayed at the El Sitio Best Western for the first two nights of a 9 day vacation in Costa Rica. For the price, we were really impressed by all the amenities of the hotel. Great, large pool, excellent breakfast, and big room. The hotel clearly takes a lot of pride in maintaining the property. It was an easy walk into downtown for dinner, and it was easy to get to from the airport/Rincon de la Vieja. On Saturday night, it definitely was loud outside the hotel, but having a room facing the pool made it a minor issue. It wasn't especially fancy, but again, for the price, it was everything we wanted.

"Worst Staff Hotel ever!"
VivianaMerrifield, 18 Avril 2016

If you want to sleep through the night don't stay there! We booked through Orbitz one night and paid online. When got there the staff at the lobby was rude and disrespectful, is like they don't even want you there. Our shower was broken and when I called and let the receptionist know the issue she just hang off the phone without even saying a word and I had to called back and to get a response. We booked through Orbitz and pay online, but they charge us when we did our check out! They said they were going to return the money but I had to called since they never respond my emails. The bathroom was filthy, the blanket on the beds is actually a curtain, 4 outlets in bedroom 2 for the tv and lamps and the other 2 didn't worked. You might as well sleep on the floor because the beds are terrible. Also the music from the Casino and the Disco in front of the hotel is so loud the you can't sleep. Breakfast was horrible. I order a bloody Mary in the restaurant and I was in the pool they said they will bring it to me, I had to go and get it because they forgot and the ice was melted I'm giving 2 stars just because the guy who work overnight is the only one person who actually likes his job.

"Good choice to see Liberia city."
polaraubie, 17 Avril 2016

This place is a perfectly fine place to stay for a night or two if you are flying in or out of Liberia. The rooms are spacious, the beds are firm, (but certainly not too hard, as suggested by one reviewer), and there are no extra locks on the doors, but the doors DO lock. We found the place quite comfortable - and convenient for a walk to town, since we wanted to at least see Liberia. We went to the Central Park and the small museum that had a great exhibit on voting rights in Costa Rica. We were glad we hadn't defaulted to the Garden Inn, since it would not have allowed us easy access to the downtown - and all the taxis are fairly high priced there. The only down sides were that we had neglected to reinforce our Spanish before we travelled so communication was a bit off and inaccurate - but we take responsibility for that too. It ended up in some misunderstandings, but everything still worked out OK - and they arranged our transportation to the beach after our stop there. Even the staff at the hotel did not recommend the hotel restaurant, though - so check Tripadvisor for other options

"Beds are horrible! Breakfast horrible"
Becky R, 03 Avril 2016

Don't stay here. Beds are very hard. I did a mission trip in Africa and my bed was better then this one. No lock on door! Creepy. Breakfast was a hot dog and rice. Pool wasn't clean. Not much staff. Casino looked more like a local bar.

"Good value for money. Dont expect awesome"
BigEarl, 03 Avril 2016

Not a lot of great options around airport that I could see. For about $80 a night for a room what do you want? If you have kids, they will like the pool. This was our priority. The restaurant actually has pretty good food. But if it's busy at all, expect to wait...and wait....and wait. The speed of service in costa rica is slow. Here they took it to another level. There just isn't any urgency.

"Needs updating, but ok for a lay-over"
AugMomto3, 27 Mars 2016

We stayed a night at the El Sitio after our flight home was delayed. The pool and the common areas were very nice, but the rooms are in much need of updating. It was a clean, comfortable stay. The kids enjoyed the pool, although getting towels in the morning was not possible. The part that stood out for us, and where we feel they went above and beyond is letting us check back into to the hotel at 7am when our flight was delayed yet again, after we had checked out at 6am. Instead of being stuck at the airport, we were able to store our luggage in our room, use the pool and have the free breakfast that was part of the nightly rate. For that we were very grateful!

"Good rooms, but suboptimal restaurant service "
Dirk B, 23 Mars 2016

The room was quite good, but the service in the restaurant was suboptimal. We ordered a vegetarian pizza and didn't get that. After we explained, the man tried to sell us the same pizza after he put away the ham trying to tell us, this would be the same as prepared without. Afterwards all pizzas were out. Weird coincidence ;-)

"We spent two nights here before going to Guanacaste."
Dalestacey, 20 Mars 2016

I spent months and months reading reviews about this hotel and the Hilton Airport hotel. Then one review said it you wanted a normal box hotel, stay at the Hilton. If you want some culture, stay somewhere else. That sealed the deal for me and my family! We had two rooms hear for Friday and Saturday night. The rooms are fine but NOT fancy. We had one pool view room and the other room was street view. The beds were fine, we saw no bugs, we had hot water and the staff was SUPER!!! We landed around 1 PM and our rooms were ready. We immediately went to the pool and really enjoyed ourselves! We stayed at the pool until dark and saw an Iguana and beautiful orange and yellow colored birds. We saw the beautiful birds both nights. There is a pond with ducks and a nice sized playground for the kids. The breakfast was really good and the on site Casino was super fun! We hung out at the black jack table. There is a grocery store next door to the property and shops and places to eat. We found a great small mexican restaurant by the grocery store called Taqueria Mazatlan. The food was really good and we ate dinner both nights at Taqueria Mazatlan. The Best Western does not provide conditioner so bring your own. A cab driver charged us $20 from the airport. Again, this hotel is not the Ritz but perfect for what we needed! You will get culture here. Yes we heard some music from the club but we turned on our white noise and it was fine. We actually got cold in our rooms at night! The A/C worked great! The pool chairs were great and had face protectors! The pool was super clean and refreshing and the work out room was fine!

"Very comfortable room, great pool and location!"
Dale H, 20 Mars 2016

This hotel is right in the heart of Liberia, about 30 minutes from the airport. Conveniently located near shopping and restaurants. Helpful hotel staff. Also on site is a casino. Amazingly, we were there around 7:00, and the place was empty. Apparently, the locals start coming in around 10:00. All in all, I would recommend this hotel.

"Sweetest Staff Ever"
hugo o, 19 Mars 2016

I had some logistic difficulties when I arrived to the hotel. But talking to the hotel staff all has been solved in a very professional way. If I had to highlight something in this experience I would certainly point the sympathy of all the people I had pleasure to interact.

"Good Hotel for next Day Flight"
Belucky584, 18 Mars 2016

This hotel is located on the edge of Liberia with close and easy access to the airport. Hotel has good amenities and is close to other food venues. We just stayed overnight because we had an early morning flight the next day.

"Nice place"
EliasVM, 17 Mars 2016

No doubt this is my first choice when l visit Liberia Guanacaste, really well located, the rooms are clean, the staff service is really good, A/C fully working, beds are delicious, and the swimming pool is very clean and big. Breakfast was good as well gallo pinto, tortillas, cheese, eggs,, croissants, jelly, cereal... Price is also reasonable. All the way l would book them again.

"Good for a quick stopover"
Mai S, 15 Mars 2016

We had a flight out of Liberia early the following morning so booked a room here. It was inexpensive and the room was well-appointed. The staff were friendly. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the pool area. I cannot comment on the breakfast or casino as we did not use these amenities. We asked for a wake-up call and taxi service to the airport and both were received as required. Overall, a good experience for the cost.

"Terrible Experience"
texasl0vebugs, 14 Mars 2016

Pretty sure I heard several gun shots from outside our hotel room window on the night of March 5th (seemed to be coming from around the nearby club that was playing extremely loud music until 4am.) Also, many bugs crawling around on the floor and the A/C was not working properly. Our family did not rest well at this hotel.

"Great Stop Over"
Tonja E, 09 Mars 2016

This hotel is a great stop over before or after flights to Liberia. The staff are very nice and helpful. The pool area was very nice with plenty of chairs. The breakfast in the morning had a great assortment of food.

"DO NOT GO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE"
Liz01234, 01 Mars 2016

We read the reviews saying there's loud music from the club across the road. Being seasoned travelers and generally great sleepers, we decided to use this hotel prior to a full days flights. What. A. MISTAKE. The building is older, so no windows close all the way. That way, when the bass bumps until after 4am, the windows will literally vibrate. Not to mention, the empty parking lot right beside the hotel is a lovely place to loiter and wait for a taxi. Get ready for drunken arguments and yelling afterward. Also, the crowd often spills to the 24hour casino afterwards. Do not go here if you need to sleep. DO NOT!! In addition to the noise, I got an email to my phone the day before I was meant to show up (had made the booking 2.5 weeks beforehand with booking.com), insisting I send my credit card information via email or they would cancel my booking. Luckily I had wifi the day before and checked my email late, the email was sent at 1700h. So I quickly was able to call in my credit card. However, any regular unsuspecting person or reasonably isolated traveller would've been hooped.

"Beautiful room!"
Cbb1993, 28 Février 2016

Was a beautiful clean room, hot shower, and AC! The nightclub next door was loud but not that big of a deal - to everyone complaining about this hotel + its surroundings: CLEARLY you have never travelled much, and by travel I mean live in a hostel/bunk/tent where it is loud most of the time whether it be people or music, kitchen floors are sandy and not always clean, showers are cold + you wash your clothes in the sink! This is TRAVEL, if you're looking for perfect I suggest a inclusive resort or just to stay home. This is a beautiful hotel and room with great places to eat surrounding it. Subway is right across the street + several pizza places, you can also order Pizza Hut to your room! Only downfall is the staff were not very friendly to me when I arrived! Oh well. Pura vida ????

"less than meets the eye"
Doctraveller45, 24 Février 2016

we were there for one night the room was not very clean and the filter coffee machine was still unwashed from the previous customer. the room on the ground floor was noisy and we could hear people walking above our heads. the breakfast ,included withe price of the room was below average for Costa Rica. finally the card to open the room was malfunctioning and remained so after i went back to the registration desk. on the positive side wifi worked well at least until we had a power failure.

"Good place for an overnight"
JoAnne-Brian, 23 Février 2016

Don't hesitate to stay here for an overnight. It's not a holiday destination but great if you're coming in late, or have to catch an early flight. It isn't fancy, and I am a clean freak, but I felt comfortable here. There were a few spider webs around the drapery, but no bugs. The beds were hard, but okay. Pillows were better than the fancy place we stayed in Coco! The grounds and pool are absolutely lovely. We enjoyed that so much. They make the stay very worthwhile. The restaurant is convenient and tasty. The staff was friendly. My only real complaint: we know the air conditioner and fan worked, but they just weren't able to keep up with the heat. Our room faced the pool and the sun beat in the window all day. We had a thermometer and it was +29 in our room around suppertime. Even with the A/C and fan going, it didn't get below +24 during the night. The heat didn't interfere with our sleep. We were somewhat accustomed, and the fan was helpful.

"Great Place to Stay"
TedTejada1, 23 Février 2016

This is a beautiful hotel with unique features. Enjoyed my room. The staff took great care of me during my vacations. The GM made some bookings for me with a tour operator who took me on a crocodile tour. What a fantastic tour. highly recommend it.

"Don't miss this hotel!"
rustyairedale, 21 Février 2016

What a surprise! This hotel is situated in a huge garden right on the doorstep of Liberia. Don't stay anywhere else. It's only 13 kms from the airport. Everything about it was great, from the comfortable rooms to dining beside the pool, Wildlife all around!

"Beautiful Property Near the Airport"
Tobager, 20 Février 2016

We enjoy older unique hotel properties (as opposed to cookie-cutter big box hotels) and this Best Western did not disappoint. The grounds are extensive and well-maintained with lovely large trees, beautiful pools, tennis courts, playground for children, and a walking path surrounding a pond. We had a delicious evening meal in the restaurant and enjoyed our buffet-style breakfast the next morning, friendly service. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the a/c was cold, the shower was hot with good water pressure. Staff was pleasant and we parked right out front. This will be our first and last stop on each future trip to Costa Rica.

"Good Deal"
James M, 18 Février 2016

We stayed here for 6 nights. Eat the rice for breakfast it's the best. The juice is also fresh. The casino staff was awesome and have good ideas to help it grow. The water pressure isn't that great and ice machine never worked. If you are looking for a resort this is not it. If you are looking for a place to sleep, ok breakfast and a clean pool. This is the place for you. If ordering dinner here or anywhere in Costa Rica get the chicken.

"Little off front desk staff"
maggiedanurse, 16 Février 2016

Liberia itself offers nothing kinda dirty and nothing. I did see homeless sleeping on the sidewalk. There is really no reason to come here. Bypass it totally. Now on to the hotel. Clean nice as tropical goes. Beds aren't comfortable neither are the pillows. Water pressure in shower ok at best. Its a budget hotel. I don't have high expectations for amenities. But the front desk staff either they were rude or completely clueless. The renovations going on should take place with the front desk staff. Replacing them with competent courteous people will really make a massive improvement for an okay budget hotel.

"Great place to relax!"
Mike K, 12 Février 2016

Spent 3 nights here just for R&R--sleeping in, hanging around the pool, relaxing. Kiddie pool, too, and play area for kids. Excellent breakfast included. Rooms are pleasant. Pool is lovely. Easy walking to grocery store, restaurants, town. Apart from the included breakfast, you can't charge restaurant meals to your room tab, but they will deliver to room.

"Disappointing except for Pool area"
Nancy M, 11 Février 2016

We stayed at this Best Western for 1 night because of the close proximity to the airport. The room was booked for 4 people through booking.com and a request was made for early check in which was later confirmed in an email. When we arrived at the Best Western, around the time we had requested, we ran into trouble. Without even checking the computer the woman at the front desk stated that she thought I had cancelled my reservation. Once she realized that we still had a reservation she quickly stated that she could not get us in early and that they never have early check in despite the request that had been confirmed. She then told us that we would need to pay an extra $60 PER PERSON over the 2 person limit for our room. That would mean double the price I was quoted on booking.com! I told her that was not the price I was given and showed her screen shots on my phone of what I had booked, but she didn't care. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me she was the manager, even though her name tag had reception written on it. Luckily for us, this woman left and was replaced by a different receptionist who was much easier to work with. After explaining it to her and someone from booking.com for 20 mins, we were finally able to get the room at the price I was quoted originally. That being said, the hotel grounds are quite nice. There is a big pool area with fountains and plenty of chairs to relax in. We ate at the restaurant for lunch and enjoyed the food and the delicious daiquiris and pina coladas! The service was a bit slow, but that was something we were used to from the rest of our stay in Costa Rica. The hotel grounds are nice but unfortunately our room did not meet the same standards. We were in room 101 which was quite dated with very uncomfortable beds. Our room looked out onto the street and was very noisy at night, making it difficult to sleep. The bathroom was alright, with very good water pressure in the shower. Although we did enjoy the pool area, with all the hassle I received when checking in and the state of the rooms, I do not think I would return to this hotel.

"Fine"
topsy9_9, 04 Février 2016

We stayed here for one night because it's not too far from the airport. The room was fine, the pool area was quite nice. There is also a crocodile pond ... we didn't see the crocodiles but that's pretty cool. The bed was comfortable. We were there on Saturday night and there was a club somewhere close by with thumping music ALL night (I think it ended at 6am) so I slept with ear plugs.

"Stay somewhere else"
Elizabeth B, 03 Février 2016

We prepaid this hotel on the Best Western site and were charged twice. Called BW and were told that there was nothing they could do as it was a prepaid. Got there late. The room was very basic. Bed uncomfortable. Upon checkout had to argue that the room as paid for and am still trying to determine if the charged me again. Would not recommend.

"Sloppy restaurant"
Maureen O, 29 Janvier 2016

I did not stay here but ate a few times at the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant spend more time on facebook than waiting on people. it is the only restaurant where I became sick after eating there in all of Costa Rica. Needs some attention! Could be very nice.

"Friendly Staff & Nice Pool"
Vmfro, 25 Janvier 2016

The Hotel El Sitio is not what one would be expecting of a Best Western Hotel, however, the staff are very friendly, helpful and professional and do go the extra mile to please their guests! The hotel ammenties are good, providing you with a nice restaurante and amazing swimming pool and a fun Casino, Internet connection is not too bad, depending in which rooms you are in (definetly room for improvements), the bedrooms and bathrooms are a little outdated and not what you would expect to find from a Best Western Hotel (a Fridge would be nice to have) the beds are comfortable though. Overall, it is a nice place to stay, very well located! Close to the Airport (about 15Minutes), close to restaurantes a couple of bars, etc. I recommend staying at El Sitio.

"A great value!"
erniegann, 25 Janvier 2016

We had been to Liberia 17 years ago, and enjoyed it. With a good airfare from Delta ($233 from Minneapolis) we decided to abandon the -15 degree cold for a week. Delta had a "partner" series of hotels, and we picked this one--saving another 20% on the hotel. When we arrived, we found that it was the same hotel we stayed in all those years before! The hotel caters to families. The rooms are clean, there are children's and adult pools. There are gardens on the property--and even a small natural pool with a sign "Here lives crocodiles." We didn't see the crocs until the 3rd day. There were bananas growing outside our door. There were some issues--the ice machine broke down, but ice was available from the poolside bar. The air conditioner on the floor above us started making noise--they fixed it the next morning. Breakfast each morning was a mixed review--Costa Rican food always includes rice and bean--not what I wanted in the morning. Breakfast also featured fresh pineapple, papaya, and watermelon--along with eggs and sausage--and on some days, pancakes. Costa Rican coffee is great! The staff was very accommodating--from the front desk to the breakfast bar to the cleaning ladies. Downtown is only a walk of a few blocks--and there are a number of places to eat there. Unfortunately, you have to negotiate crossing the street near a traffic circle, where cars are attempting to enter/exit the circle--not always paying attention. It's sometimes worth it to go a block out of your way and back to eliminate the issue. Liberia is a great place to base out of--half an hour from the Pacific beaches, one to two hours from numerous volcanoes and national parks, and two hours from the rain forest. There are lots of adventure things to do--hiking, exploring volcanic activity, river rafting, beaches, zip-lining, horse riding, etc.

"Average for Costa Rica, poor for the USA"
Airwolf67, 21 Janvier 2016

This is an old run down hotel. The lobby has a shabby appearance. Bedroom is spacious, but no ambiance - everything has been painted black, but clean. No outlets for computers - have to unplug table lamp and crawl under bedside table to unplug bedside lamps in order to plug a device in. Good internet - strong signal. Very tiny bathroom with small clothes closet in bathroom. Breakfast was good. Staff very friendly. Will not stay here again as there are hotels which compare better for less or the same price.

"It's ok!"
fiquillo, 16 Janvier 2016

-Strategic Location: near by the airport and Liberia City. Also, there is a local mall next to the hotel and most of the attractions are not very far away. Maybe it will take a while (1 hour) to get to Conchal Beach, but won't regret your time on the road. -Breakfast was ok, but I have tried better Gallo Pinto. -The water had some kind of sulphur or volcanic smell, but maybe I was "lucky" enough to get that extra. -Some bugs outside, but if you keep your door closed all the time, there's no problem at all. -The Swimming pool looked nice, but I preferred to spend my time at the beach.

"Quite a noisy place."
Molodaya, 13 Janvier 2016

Stayed there only one night, to be close to the airport. Otherwise I would avoid this place comletely. Very noisy during the night as club nearby keeps you awake till the morning hours. Pool is seems nice.

"I have to disagree with all the negative reviews"
Melanie J, 11 Janvier 2016

We stayed one night, worried about the bad reviews of the noise, nothing that will keep you up... beautiful pool, decent breakfast. Room clean comfy, 15 min away from airport.. right across the street there is a very nice sidewalk coffee shop great little place .....

"You Will Not Get Sleep - Night Club Vibrates Into the Room Until Past 4 am"
Julie D, 02 Janvier 2016

I stayed here Jan 1-2, 2016 and did not get any sleep either night. There is a night club across the street that plays extremely loud music that earplugs and double pillows around your head cannot block. I go the room furthest away from the club as possible for the second night and the bass of the music still vibrates through the room. Casino was not open. Food was so-so.

"Worst night in Costa Rica"
Matt B, 02 Janvier 2016

After arriving in Liberia we called the hotel to learn they did not send complementary shuttle service. They offered to send a taxi for $20 which we waited for about 30 minutes (the hotel was about 15 minutes away). We ended hailing another taxi to drive us there for the same price. The check in process took forever for some reason. When we got to our room, 3 out of the 4 lights were working, the smell from the sewer was overwhelming at times, and there were decent sized bugs crawling around. Our room was the closest to the reception and in the line of fire from the late night thumping sounds of the next door discotheque (on a Wednesday night). So if you do need to stay here make sure you ask for a room farthest from the road. And good luck.

"Close to Airport , next to major freeway and good price"
Faz2121, 29 Décembre 2015

Cons : Less light in the room Pros : Rooms were clean, nice location next to the airport and main freeway. Garden/estate was beautifully design and maintained. We also love the breakfast area which was served under beautiful Hut.

"Value for money"
HelB_1990, 28 Décembre 2015

The rooms are very basic and a little dated but the building and grounds are great. The pool is clean and refreshing and breakfast, although simple, gave us some much needed sustenance. For £45.00 for the night including breakfast it was. Great place to stop for the night to help us get over the long flight the day before.

"Worst experience ever"
Nav D, 28 Décembre 2015

I had the worst experience of my stay at this hotel. From the beginning, my room was not ready on time, so I had to keep my luggage in the area where the staff is responsible as I already booked a tour. I lost my small luggage bag from there when I came back. And staff was very careless. My bathroom was in bad condition even though they took so long to get my room ready. Worst of all, I paid them cash while checking out and I found out later that they have charged my mastercard which I gave them for booking reservation. They were not suppose to charge my card. I have been trying from last three days to talk to them. They are ignoring me. They are responding emails too. I am going to register a complaint because this is ridiculous, annoying and waste of my time. I hope if staff reads this, please respond to my email asap. I have never experienced customer service before.

"Good for Your First Stop"

A nice clean hotel, only a short walk from the town. Good breakfast, and a nice pool. At the bottom you will find a small lake, if you're lucky you'll get to see the crocodile. The staff are friendly and helpful, although they couldn't recommend a restaurant in town. A few WI-FI problems, and very windy area of town. Don't pay $20usd for a taxi from the airport, unless you arrive late. Take the local bus, it's only a 10minute journey.

"Below average room for the price"
navjeetsingh, 25 Décembre 2015

We stayed one night at this hotel and I must say that the quality of the room was well below average. Even when I wanted to compare this to a motel 6 in the US, this one fell short. The room was dark with not enough light. The shower head was like a jet stream and I was literally being tortured while taking the shower and there was no shampoo and moisturiser but instead the shower gel combo pack that you find at a gym shower. Also, shower was not clean at all, there were very visible things sticking to the walls of the bathroom. The only decent thing was the swimming pool. I wish the hotel put some investment into improving their rooms, especially upgrade the bathrooms and a few touches in the the bedroom as well. The noisy air conditioner should be replaced. There was also no blanket or comforter provided in the room but just a white sheet and a cover sheet. Overall, I would expect clean bathroom and pretty standard room for the price they charge ~$90

"Dingy room, unhelpful staff"
julesmay, 15 Décembre 2015

We stayed at El Sitio for a very short night after arriving late to the airport, and before leaving first thing in the morning to head to La Fortuna. We weren't staying for an experience, but merely a stopover, so my review only reflects this experience. This isn't a spectacular hotel – at one time I think it might have been a nice place to relax and enjoy the pool (it has a rather large pool surrounded by gardens), but from what I saw, it is dated and run down. Location: El Sitio is about a 15 minute cab ride from the airport, on the main road that leads from the airport to the city centre. It's a busy road, but has a sidewalk so you can walk to restaurants, etc. Across the street is a Subway and a nightclub, next door is a shopping centre with a supermarket. A McDonald's is located close by as well. Room: Our room was very outdated and quite old. Furniture has been repainted many times, and looked to be at least 20 years old. It had a long, dark desk and two double beds, with a small TV on the wall. The AC was on full-blast when we arrived, and would not respond to the remote for it, so our options for the night were to freeze and deal with the loud fan noise, or turn it off and roast in the heat. The bathroom was also dingy, and the shower head was quite weak. Food: Our room rate included breakfast, and we ate in the open air dining room. It was comida tipica for the most part, and was decent, but there were flies and hornets everywhere. The first night we arrived, we were looking for a late-night meal, and we were directed to the hotel restaurant which we discovered was actually closed. When asked again, she told us there wasn't much around, so we ended up at Subway across the road. The next day, when we were leaving, our shuttle passed a bunch of restaurant options only a few blocks away that she didn't bother to mention. Staff: We interacted very briefly with staff. Check-in was fine, although we had to wait a while for someone to come meet us at the desk when we arrived. The next day, our colectivo was quite late in picking us up, and the first time my husband when in to ask the receptionist if she could call the company, she dismissed him, told him he was over-reacting and that these things are always late. After an hour of waiting, he insisted she phone, and sure enough, we had been forgotten and not even 10 minutes later, the driver was there for us. We would have appreciated if the receptionist had just called when we first inquired, to save us a lot of time waiting.

"Enjoyable Stay"
laurence_baird, 08 Décembre 2015

When I first arrived, I thought this hotel was going to be a horrible experience. I went to reception and there were about 4 people behind the desk, one person was attending a customer. The other three were just there. I stood for about 10 minutes and finally the person who was attending the previous customer decided to assist me. I do not know what the other three people did for a living. As I was checking in, a woman was offering massages, and I greatly accepted as I had just ridden from San Jose. The rooms were of a good size, beds a bit hard but no complaint. The grounds are pretty big. The casino offers gamblers a few choices and the noise levels are not what other people suggest.

"Marginal Food, Hard beds, Sewer gas backup"
TrailblazingWendy, 13 Novembre 2015

Breakfast was nice but the quality of food off the menu for lunch and dinner was tasteless and uninteresting. Our room was clean yet the mattresses were hard and uncomfortable. The smell of sewer gas coming from the bathroom sink was awful; it could be contained somewhat by using the stopper. In its favor, this hotel has a nice pool area (even though we couldn't use it because staff were doing maintenance), a good reception team and the lagoon at the rear of the facility teams with interesting wildlife.

"On its way to upgrade "
greatparties, 02 Novembre 2015

My husband and I stayed to be near our dentist in Liberia, booked through United airlines. Great rate $43 a night... never noticed small "one". Checked in and was asked one person and I said no rate then went up to $78. Same room, same two beds but they have a rule. Needless to say we checked out. Thanks to the manager Hurld he did not charge us a cancel fee. Staff was nice and helpful. Older hotel but definitely trying to upgrade.

"Good place for the place."
Mauricio G, 06 Octobre 2015

This is a good hotel, kind of old, maybe wall colors are kind of old style, I know it is an old construction, place is big, nice swimming pools, rooms are good and big, good beds and good bathroom, Restaurant is acceptable but we tried only breakfast which was included in our fare, but considering that Liberia where the Hotel was constructed is just a pass way to beaches is a good place to stay.

"Decent for one night stay"
ChicagoPair, 27 Septembre 2015

This is probably the nicest Best Western we have ever stayed at (we typically avoid Best Westerns in the U.S.). Our room was quiet and comfortable and the wi-fi was fast. The restaurant is nothing special but we didn't expect much from it anyway. The pools looked very nice.

"If you want sleep - don't stay here!"
Marian H, 18 Septembre 2015

No one told us about the bar across the street that played extremely loud music until 6:00 a.m. We got no sleep at all! Then, to make matters worse, the gardener cranked up his gas-powered leaf blower at 7:30 a.m RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW to clean the entire patio/pool area. Food in restaurant was mediocre at best. Asked for Ranch dressing, got some kind of weird sauce; asked for soy sauce, got salsa - on and on. Would rather sleep in my car then stay at this hotel again.

"Perfect for one night before heading home"
simnznc06, 01 Septembre 2015

We were going to stay in downtown Liberia, but decided against it and stayed here. Very nice staff and property. Nothing special, but no issues. Room was scant, beds were ok, bathroom and shower were fine. Breakfast was traditional and average. Again, perfect for a place to sleep.

"A Mixed Bag: More Good Than Bad"
Palmisto, 14 Août 2015

During many trips to Liberia, I've stayed at most of the hotels located within the city limits; El Sitio is my choice because the pros far outweigh the cons. Stayed three nights at the beginning of a 2-week solo trip in Costa Rica and then three nights at the end of that stay. Each time in a different room. Pros – location is on the PanAmerican Highway about 15 minute easy walk from the heart of Liberia. You are 75 minutes from Palo Verde National Park, 30 min from Llanos del Cortes waterfall in Bagaces, 45 min from Sta Rosa National Park, 60 min from Rincon de la Vieja National Park, 80 min from Playa Grande and about 40 min from the Pacific beaches at Playas del Coco and surroundings. Highway construction has been ongoing and combined with an exceptionally dry “green/wet” season, there's lots of dust. I'm told that work at this important intersection of Liberia / road to Daniel Oduber Int'l Airport and beaches beyond / Highway north to Sta Rosa and Rincon de la Vieja Nat'l Parks and beyond to the Far North should be done by January, 2016. There's a well-stocked supermarket next to the hotel. Nice pool: large with plenty of sun and shade areas, mobile loungers, tables and restaurant/bar service from the hotel's poolside food service. A couple of ice machines but you have to ask housekeeping for a bucket for your room. Plenty of hot water; AC units worked well esp with ceiling fan. I made my reservations online via the Best Western website without incident; friends that though they had made theirs through Hotels.com never actually had a reservation. Seems that Hotels.com and Best Western had some communication issues. I always deal as directly as possible with any lodging provider. Cons / Quirks – My first room had two queen sized beds. One mattress was totally unusable because it was so thin, I was on springs. It became my layout-my-gear place. The other mattress was fine. My second room had a king bed that was very comfortable. Both rooms suffered from a lack of electrical outlets. In the first room, I had to unplug the TV (keeping the desk light) and lay on the floor to plug in my laptop or phone charger. To use the provided (but totally useless because there was no radio reception) alarm/radio, I had to lay flat on the floor and reach under the stand between the two beds to plug it in. In the second room, there is a double plug attached to the desk leg, but to power it, I must unplug the TV. Basically, I charged laptop, phone, and camera batteries in the bathroom. Okays – the complementary breakfast buffet is adequate: coffee, hot milk, hot water for tea, a couple of fruit juices (both overly sweet for me), gallo pinto, scrambled eggs, sweet plantains, white bread (aargh….) and a toaster, and always a couple of interesting baked items incl. cheese-filled croissant-type things. The coffee is disappointing – not very flavorful and somewhat thin for my taste. And, unless you arrive when the food is put out at 6am, everything cools down pretty fast. Cereal is corn flakes and cocopuffs (aargh!). Not much style but plenty of carbs to get you going. Oddity – The Crocodile Lagoon behind the restaurant has (July 2015) a 5' American Crocodile brought their by MINAE – the nation's environmental ministry. Why? No one at El Sitio knew. A staff person did tell me that the restaurant feeds it so it's becoming domesticated. If this is true, this is dangerous. Crocodiles that become acclimated to humans do pose serious threats in Costa Rica. Wildlife watchers will also find a large number of black-bellied whistling ducks, a seemingly resident Tiger Heron, and lots of other birds coming and going. Stay on the walkway and viewing platform; do not go out into the grass at the edge of the pond to look for the crocodile. Be patient; it will come to you.
