« Would prefer to stay elsewhere »

Considering that staying anywhere near KU during basketball season is a challenge, I really should not complain that our family got a room at all, but I will anyway. We had to bring back our daughter early from Thanksgiving break due to her extracurricular activity schedule. We got this room at an ok rate and I was aware it was in the secondary annex building at the back of the parking lot and at least is was pet friendly for a reasonable add on charge since we needed to bring our doggie with us this trip. However, I was really non-plussed overall. The room was adequate but not the cleanest. There was obvious dust and dirt around the periphery and it was apparent staff are none too careful and most likely neglect moving anything to clean on a regular basis. There was a dead spider smashed on the tub. Check in was uneventful, except they tried to charge me DOUBLE the pet rate. I brought up the info on the website and showed it to the clerk and he said he would honor it "this time" but it had changed. I asked for extra pillows to take over to the building with me because I didn't figure they would have fulfilled this special request like stated on the reservation. When I got to the room, I found I was right and glad I had just gotten the pillows myself. The TV worked fine though channels were limited. We don't have cable at home so not a biggie for us. The beds were clean and adequate. The shower/stool area was tiny. You had to practically step into the bathtub to shut the door and use the stool. You could not go while leaving the door open because you would have to reach around behind the door to access the toilet paper. The shower itself was pretty nice, other than the dead spider. The shower head was tall enough to accommodate the six feet plus tall people in our family. There was plenty of hot water available. That was a good thing because I opted for hot shower when I found the hot tub ultra disappointing!! The pool area is ok. There were NO TOWELS!! Zero, zip, nada on EITHER DAY!! We had to ask for them both days. The pool area is COLD! The "hot" tub is tepid and only marginally warmer than the pool water. There was a nice amount of jet foam but with the temperature totally lacking, I was sorry I even got my swim suit wet and would have to rinse, wring and dry as extra work for a dissatisfying experience. The breakfast was adequate. The typical assorted hit breakfast you find. The three days we were there, it did not change at all. Same things every day and that was a little disappointing. They did have an ok pancake machine which is one thing that was a little different. There were not enough staff managing breakfast. The poor girls were running back and forth constantly and everything ran out repeatedly. They could not clear tables fast enough. The coffee was awful. The door was difficult to open and close. Even closed it had such a huge gap it was ridiculous. You could stand behind the closed door and feel the cold breeze from outside blowing right in. See the picture of our CLOSED DOOR and you can see the very visible light gap all around the door. There was a microwave and mini fridge that were fine. Charging outlets were at a premium and the sockets were loose, not the greatest. You had to make sure you jiggled it just right to make sure it was actually charging. So in conclusion, I would stay here again if I had to and had a pet with me but it would not be my first choice otherwise. With a few improvements and some attention to detail it would be better. Otherwise it's ok if you really need a place to stay for a night or a few nights.

    « Staff Needs Training »

Blocked off some rooms for a conference we were facilitating nearby. Thought everything was going great until I had to add on an another night to my reservation. Seems like some of our conference attendees reservations were being cancelled for no apparent reason, even the one I added another night to. The staff needs some training on booking rooms.

« Great room for good rate »

The prices for hotels in Lawrence can very quite a bit based on what is happening at KU. We've found the Best Western to consistently offer a reasonable rate and always have a clean, spacious room with great hospitality.

    3
    « 2 different buildings »

The hotel is split into two different buildings. 1 is a standard 3 story hotel with a pool. The second building is a disconnected 2 story motel. This is where I stayed. Room was ok, nothing fancy, no issues though either. Just pictures are deceiving on their website about the two building set up.

« Good location for visiting Lawrence and KU »

We were there during the recent homecoming weekend visiting with other family members. I would recommend this hotel. Breakfast was quite good and had a decent variety. The room was very nice as well. The indoor pool was great also. This hotel is very close to campus, which worked out well for us. The only problem I encountered that I feel worth reporting is that the computers in the business center were not interfacing with the printer, and so I was not able to print out airline boarding passes. One of the computers did not even seem to be connected to the internet. The desk staff was not as helpful as I would have expected. Instead of trying to fix the problem, I was told to email the hotel from the workstation and then they would print out the passes from the desk. This just seems a bit inconvenient. The next morning I tried it again and the system still didn't work. Upon having the desk print out the passes as suggested the previous evening, I noticed that the passes didn't print properly and so I had to wait until getting to the airport to get new ones. I really hope the hotel straightens out this (undoubtedly rather simple to fix) problem.

    « Disappointing »

We stayed here a few nights when we took our daughter to college. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is located about a mile from Daisy Hill on the KU campus. The hotel is older and run down. They had a good variety of breakfast options. It was a disappointing experience.

« Nicely updated but SLOOOW wifi »

This is an older property, but has been updated inside. Bathroom was very nice. Beds were very firm. Lots of pillows. The wall unit for AC/heat was noisier than many, so it would have been distracting from our sleep if we'd needed it; fortunately, it was a cool night and we were fine with it off. And the full breakfast is appreciated. Our only big problem was the wifi. Slowest I've experienced in quite a while. It kept kicking me off at 9 in the evening and took minutes (really, more than 60 seconds) to retrieve an email with pictures. It was still slow at 3am when I tried again, but it didn't kick me off then. We won't stay here again unless we know they've upgraded their wifi.

« Not a good experience for a quick road trip stay. »

Needed a good night sleep to get back on the road the next morning. Were placed in the Annex, separate building from the main building. Just wanted to shower, watch a little TV, get a good sleep and move on. Bathroom had hairs on the floor and in the sink. Toilet paper rolls - both were almost empty. TV and internet did not work - reported it, jiggled cords multiple times (as was suggested) and thanks for the offer to have it repaired tomorrow - when we leave. Sheets were pilled and uncomfortable. I cleaned off a 12 inch splatter of something like toothpaste on the wall beside the bed. Carpet torn inside the entry - yes, once things go bad you start to notice all that is not good but might have been overlooked if basics were there. Breakfast was great.

I had a very good experience at this hotel. The rooms were clean and the service was very good. The breakfast was excellent. I recommend this hotel to anyone who needs somewhere to stay for the night in Lawrence.

« Great Place to Stay »

This Best Western was a great place to pull into after traveling for many hours. Lots of places to eat around it and gas stations close by. Folks working the desk were extremely polite and helpful. Rooms were clean and internet was also great.

    « Good location »

Nice hotel. Front desk people were very friendly. Room was great for the price. I would stay there again. The beds weren't the greatest but not bad. Parking is ok and didn't have any issues with security.

« Nice clean rooms. Great quick breakfast »

We checked reviews and were hesitant to stay in a budget motel in Lawrence but decided to go ahead, it was only one night, right?? We were very pleasantly surprised. This was a great value. The room we were in was an external room with parking at the door. Carpet was new, bathroom was clean and bed was comfortable. We had breakfast before heading out and it was really nice because it had so many choices. From cold cereals to waffles to boiled eggs to sausage, potatoes and scrambled eggs. Fresh fruit, yogurt and oatmeal. Great coffee and juice too. Oh, I forgot to mention the biscuits and gravy that were delicious! The staff actually cleared away the dishes as you finished. Great location for a motel. Walking distance to several chain restaurants. Worth the price of the room.

    1
« Make this your last option. »

The rooms are very dirty. The carpets are stained and gritty. Do not take your shoes off. The ceiling in the bathroom was falling in. The dirt and grime in the corners of the bathroom and room was thick with all sorts of disgusting grime. The staff made me feel like they wanted me to leave when I checked in, and barely acknowledged my existence at checkout.

« Not the Best Best Western »

I stayed here during a work trip. Being that I was there for work, I needed to be working. But I could not connect to the internet. The person at the front desk said a work order had been placed earlier in the week, and he couldn't do anything but reset the router. Well, that might be a start. So he did, and that worked for under a half hour. Internet connection was better but erratic and unreliable on subsequent days. I had a suite but didn't use the couches, as they were kinda gross. The TVs and microwave worked fine. The refrigerator barely kept things cold enough. The bed was comfortable but pillows not so much. While I don't smoke, my friends do. There needs to be a comfortable place (adequate shelter and benches) for them so that they don't congregate in the non-smoking area right outside the lobby door.

    « dirty »

The room was dirty and had a odor. I found it very unexceptable. one of the manager told me they were going to remodel at the end of the season...really why not before the season started. Light bulbs were out no coffee for the coffee pot..Found a dead bug in the bath tub. really?

    4
    « Worked for us! »

Was disappointed hot tub wasn't hot. Room was comfortable. TV worked fine. Couldn't connect to internet. Breakfast was good. Wish this box told me how letters I have... told me I must have 200. I keep pressing submit, but it says I don't have enough characters

« Smokin' - but not in a good way! »

We went to Lawrence to move our son into college at KU in August. We had an average experience (stayed in newer, smoke-free building), so returned for Parents Weekend. Unfortunately the only room available in town was a smoking room. It was in a separate, much older motel-type building - looks like the Bates Motel. The room smelled so bad we almost checked out but there were no rooms in town! We actually bought an air purifier at Walmart. Then the cold water faucet knob literally broke off in my hand. The AC system was loud, not very comfortable. The TV and internet were poor. My wife didn't even want to sleep under the sheets! I'm telling you the room smelled so bad we could barely stand it. Staff was pleasant, but somewhat burned out. The did comp one of our two nights (should have comped both). We will not return if a smoke-free room is not available.

    4
    « Affordable, clean hotel »

If you are looking for an affordable, clean hotel for a short stay in Lawrence, this is the hotel for you. Try to stay in the main building if possible as it is more convenient to all of the amenities.

    3
    « Convenient to KU »

Convenient to KU with easy access to area attractions. With interior and exterior rooms and pet-friendly rooms as well. Parking is free and breakfast is provided. Within walking distance to restaurants and convenience shopping.

    4
    « Touring Colleges »

Brought my daughter and 2 friends and their moms to tour colleges. I arrived around 8 pm and there was a line to check-in. Only 1 person was working the desk. But he was very polite to everyone and worked as quickly as he could. Room was clean. Bed was adequate. Shower was nice, but could of used an exhaust fan. Would stay again.

  • 3
    « Just okay »

This hotel serves its purpose and was adequate for the short night we spent with a two year old and dog. We were put in the annex, a separate building, probably due to our dog. That was fine but the WiFi connection was not good there. The hotel was not as clean as I expect and was in need of updating. Breakfast wasn't bad but wasn't great either. On the plus side, we were not charged a pet fee, although I wouldn't expect that to happen again.

    2
« Not worth the money! »

We stayed here for 3 nights. The free breakfast was good and contained options for everyone. Our room was in the annex, which is across the parking lot from the main hotel. The room was old and outdated. The bathroom had zero ventilation. The second night our air conditioner leaked and the carpet was wet. The following morning they fixed the air conditioner, but we were still left with damp, stinky carpet. We have stayed in less expensive hotels which had nicer, cleaner rooms than this one. This was not worth the money.

    4
« Convinient Location and Friendly Staff »

Nice, clean, hotel with a limited, but free continental breakfast. Conveniently located near a CVS and several places to eat. Stay in an inside room though, because the outside ones that my friends stayed in had bugs and were dirtier.

    3
« Fine for what it is »

The rate we received for a 2 bedroom was very good. We checked in a little late, but were helped quickly by the clerk at the desk. You could tell the room had received new soft goods which was nice. The one issue was that it was a very hot, humid day and the AC in the two rooms was not on when we entered and it took 5-6 hours for the 2 bedroom suite to cool down. That was a bit frustrating on such a hot day with 6 of us in the suite. The breakfast was a typical spread. Overall, it was clean and we were satisfied with our stay other than the hot room, but nothing out of the ordinary

    2
    « Not Maintained »

We stayed here for a wedding last weekend and were limited on our overnight options, as Lawrence had many things going on Saturday night. We booked online beforehand, at a decent rate. But wasn't significantly cheap by any means. We go to the lobby to check in to find one overworked staff member dealing with a sizable line while others were laughing in the back. He was visibly annoyed that he was receiving no help at all. We got to our room Saturday afternoon, when it was about 95 degrees outside. The A/C barely worked. I don't think we ever got it below about 80 degrees in there with it running on high for many hours. It also didn't do a good job of removing the humidity in the room. It was humid, warm, and not comfortable. Then, the room itself wasn't very well taken care of. Sometimes it's the small things, but there were small holes in the walls, as well as scratches. The door to outside didn't shut all the way. The handle on the bathroom door was broken. The carpet itself was sticky. We had to wear socks to walk around because it was a gross feeling on our feet. We didn't get much of an impression that the place was clean. The next morning, we came during the rush of breakfast and most of the food was cold. We would have thought the turn on food was so quick it would be steaming hot and fresh, but it definitely was not. It was unfortunate, because we could tell it was decent food, but when potatoes, eggs, and sausage are cold, they aren't good. The bed was fine. We both slept just fine (except that we were both very warm), which was the entire purpose of a room. We needed a place to sleep. For that, it served its purpose. When we went to check out, there was nobody at the front desk. This was at 10am on a Sunday. We waited for a couple of minutes just for one of the few people laughing in the back to help us check out of our room. I thought our experience from the day before was an isolated incident, but clearly not. Now, we normally try to stay at cheaper places, so we are not used to high frills or fancy places. We are used to 2-3 star places consistently. This, however, was the worst place I've ever booked. Nearly everything was outdated, including the fact that we couldn't find working outlets to charge our phones overnight. I will not be staying here again. I don't recommend staying here.

    « Dirty rooms »

We are doing cross country with our 65lb golden retriever. Since she is considered a large dog I have pre-booked all of our hotel rooms on their web sites, called to verify each hotel would reserve a dog friendly room on the lowest level for our family. I arrived and was told that they had neglected to give me a dog-friendly room and they were now all out. The front desk person called his manager to see if he could give me my room and allow a dog. He did ... Great. But then he handed me my key and told me it was on the third floor (this was after we had discussed wanting a lower level floor room AND it was on my notes). He was able to give me a second floor room, but alas all lower floor rooms were taken. We go to our room... Gum on the bed frame, sheets looked rumbled and frankly looked dirty, but I think they were just old, mysterious gunk on the floor and clothes in the drawers! So I go get a new room ... This room was better but it had NOT been vacuumed. Dried grass all over the room. So you may ask ... Why did I continue to stay at this hotel?! ...Well my mom and my aunt had met me here and had already settled into their rooms; I wasn't changing the direction of this train. So I contacted the front desk again. He was unable to leave the desk to vacuums since he was the only person here. I grabbed a vacuum from him and vacuumed my new "cleaner" room. I have yet to hear back from BW about this; I will update this review when I hear back. For now -- I would not recommend this hotel.

    « very chaotic. »

Employees didn't pass on info to next shift. No microwave, finally got one didn't work. A/C in some of the rooms didn't work very well. I had 3 rooms and I don't think I would ever stay at this Best Western again. Not enough help for the breakfast, running out of items, the lady that was working was fabulous, I just felt very bad for her she was running in all different directions, she did a great job though. The one girl at the front desk I do believe her name is Jillian, FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!

    5
    « NICE »

Nice, clean hotel. very nice staff. The rooms were clean and very modern. The hotel is conveniently located to the University of Kansas. Everyone I encountered who worked at the hotel was very, very nice.

    3
    « I have seen better »

I would not stay at this Hotel again. The check-in was very slow, the breakfast area was not clean and the pool had a lot of white stuff floating in the pool. For $100.00 a night I would expect better. I usually stay with the Honors group when traveling. I do pay a little more but I get a LOT more.

    3
    « Close to KU »

I stayed here for one night. I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the University of Kansas campus where I had an event to attend. Be aware that there are inside rooms in the main building where there is also the ice machine, a pool, vending, and the breakfast area AND then there is a two-story outdoor-entry area of the hotel. Be sure to ask for a first floor room (for the outside) or a room inside the main buidling (where there is an elevator) if you cannot do stairs. The room was fine. It was clean and the TV, refrigerator, and microwave were fine but the toilet and shower are in the same space which is small, and gets smaller when trying to close the door. The breakfast was fine but the breakfast area is super-small and I ended up having to eat my breakfast in the lobby area because of the lack of space in the room itself. While I would prefer to stay somewhere else when in Lawrence, this one is the best value as there aren't very many hotel choices in Lawrence so prices are higher than other cities the same size. Staying here was fine and it is close to campus and a lot of retail which are both positives for staying here again.

    « A/C Not Working Correctly »

We stayed one night on 6/3/16 (3 adults, 3 children under age three) When we first got into our room, it was very hot and the A/C was not on. We turned it on, went down to the pool, and came back to the room. It was still extremely warm in the room because the A/C was not working correctly. It was also at this time that we noticed dog hair all over the sofa bed (there are supposed to be no pets allowed in the hotel, except for service animals). We went to the desk and they offered to move us to another room, which was not a suite so it did not include a sofa bed (this was all they had open). We took the room, and they took $20 off the price of our stay, from $140 to $120. We immediately noticed the A/C was not working great in the new room, but decided to go to dinner and check it when we returned (hopefully it would work). It worked a little better than the first, but it was still uncomfortable. I messed with the knob and found that it wouldn't turn to Max Cool, without taking the knob off and turning it by hand (it would stay on auto cool). The room started to cool down, and we went to sleep. At some point in the middle of the night, the A/C unit turned itself off. My wife wasn't able to get it turned back on where it should be, only AUTO COOL. We woke up the next morning to a warm room, and went to check out. We informed the front desk about our issues in the new room, and heard "I'm sorry", but that was it. Negatives: A/C didn't work properly/at all, Price, Hot tub only had 1 jet working Positives: Breakfast was good, The swimming pool was nice, Location

    « What a dump! »

The worst stay ever for us. We have been everywhere and stayed at them all. This is the second time for a Best Western and the last. Maid left a note that she would bring towels but never showed. The carpet had never been cleaned and the tile in the bathroom was grouse. We were greeted by very large spider in the morning and I think he may have ate the donuts we left in the room that evening before. They have cable I think but not sure. Ours was off down and out all 3 nights. We wanted to stay somewhere else but this was our only option. All others in town were booked. Now I know why. We were going to ask for a manager to talk about some issues but the clerk at office was maybe 18. Last time for any BW for us.

    2
« Ants in the bed!! »

The title says it all. We woke up to a bed with ants crawling in it, on the walls, and the room had carpet that needs to be replaced or seriously deep cleaned! The breakfast in the morning was decent but the eating area was rather cluttered with trash all on the tables. We had to clean the waffle syrup off the only table we deemed "clean enough". The indoor pool and spa were probably the best things about this place because they were comfortable. I can say the staff was very nice and were eager to help and please us in anyway they could. Because of the staff and the pool, I gave them a 2 out of 5.

    2
« Rooms need some help. Management needs attention to detail »

The rooms and beds had good firm mattresses. Our room was pretty clean. We had an annoying toilet seat that dropped as soon as you put it down. Our room had a fridge that sounded like dripping water. The thing I really didn't like was there were two "mangers" chatting at the counter and there was an older gentlemen trying to get his scooter out the door and instead of jumping to help him they watched him struggle to get out the door. Any decent human being would have helped him let alone someone that just paid to stay at your hotel.

    4
« Good Hotel and Location »

Stayed at the best western for a visit at the university. The room was good and had all the amenities you expected (fridge, tv, ...). The bed was a bit dated and might need an upgrade, also not the most comfortable mattress. The location is good, but need a car to get to downtown. The distance to the university is easy to walk and you get a lot of chain restaurants nearby.

    2
« Decent, but needs some TLC »

While the room was well kept and fairly clean, our heater/air conditioning unit squealed all through the night. We tried to turn it off, but even when we did it would occasionally turn on. The bathroom door had black scuffs on it and it looked like it had a hole that had been filled in. Overall decent stay, but the air conditioning unit made it difficult to sleep through the night. Was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of breakfast, and the 12 PM checkout time let us get a little extra sleep

    2
    « Think Twice! »

Extremely dirty bathroom floor around the toilet and in the corners was disgusting. Not sure when the last time the room floors were vacuumed. I used the blow dryer and the plug end and cord was yellow and grimy.

    2
    « Horrible room »

Would not recommend this hotel. Had no electrical outlets that worked. We had to reset the outlet at the sink just to get the light to work in the bathroom. Room had gum stuck in the carpet an was supposedly just cleaned. Almost $200 per room was ridiculous for this type of service.

    3
« Good hotel - not so good parking lot »

Only one handicapped slot on the lower level of the 3 story building. Steps from the 2nd lot were cracked, very narrow, though they did have double handrails, they were not good for those who required handicapped parking stalls, which were not available.

    4
    « Great customer service »

The staff at this hotel are always courteous. That is worth a little extra. The only thing that needs an upgrade are the beds. They are getting a little hard. Hotel is convenient to family so it is one we enjoy staying at.

« Worn out bottom sheet »

The bottom sheet was worn out and had fuzzy balls all over it which rubbed on my skin. Very uncomfortable sleep and fear that the sheets were not even changed from the last guest. The room felt dirty, even though the rest of the hotel seemed fine. We did not use the bathroom to bathe in or use the towels. I hope it was just a worn out sheet. Anyway it made us feel very uncomfortable therefor it really was not worth the money and we arrived to late to really complain and allow them another chance to offer clean sheets. Clean sheets are supposed to be a very important part of what you are paying for.

    4
    « Motel »

Rooms are clean, beds are comfy, and the pillows are amazing. Breakfast is average, but the staff is friendly and efficient. The shower head is high enough for tall people, but getting the water the right temperature takes work. Check in and out were quick and painless.

« Awful phone conversation with front desk staff »

I phoned today to request a change from a smoking room to non-smoking room after discovering this detail on my reservation summary. Told that he could not change this as I had booked through a third party. My reservation was made through bestwestern.com. I said I would contact them but wondered if they even had availability of a non-smoking room. He said he didn't know. I expressed my surprise that he didn't know what rooms they had available. His exact words "I don't appreciate you telling me I am lying". Uhhhh didn't say that. I then said - can I please book a room directly through you today. He said "we don't have any rooms available". So I guess he knew they didn't have any rooms. It was an unbelievably rude conversation with front desk staff. Immediately cancelled my reservation.

    4
    « Better than expected »

This Best Western doesn't get the best reviews for some reason, so I was a bit hesitant to stay here, but all other rooms were booked due to several things going on in Lawrence over the weekend. Anyhow, we got the last room in Lawrence, and this was it. Check in was easy, hotel was clean, no complaints. Huge hot breakfast with eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuits, waffles, cereals, fruit, yogurt, etc. The beds were not the most comfortable, but not bad either. They're perfect if you like a very firm mattress. Carpets and furniture seem new, and in good condition. There is always room for more cleaning, I noticed halls need vacuuming. But our room was clean. All in all, I was pleased and our stay was nice.

The room(s) we had were scent-free and very quiet, just as we requested. We stayed in the interior building, not the annex (which tends to house large groups of sports teams, etc.). When we checked in, we had two problems with the assigned rooms: the first room was not ready when we opened the door (linens on floor, etc.) and the second room beds were poorly made up with sheets not completely on the bed, some sticking, out, etc. The manager on duty, Abby, came with me to the room and immediately corrected the issues when I told her we would stay with the room, provided it was made up well. Just an exemplary customer care action that overcame what seems like a newly-trained housekeeper not quite on track yet. Discovered a couple of other issues in the room, but did not report as we could live with and attributed to the person being newly trained. We have stayed here for years and always appreciate the good care that makes for a great stay. Although we didn't eat it this time (rush to a conference), the breakfast looked very good and had lots of happy people in the breakfast room. Kudos to an excellent manager!

We attended a memorial in Eudora, KS and found the Best Western in Lawrence, KS It was very clean and our stay was very comfortable. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and it is very central to all the shopping in Lawrence. A very clean and nice town to visit.

« Urine, dirty bedding, puking... No credit? »

When we first got to Best Western Lawrence on 3/1/16 we were so excited. The room was big and had a hide-away bed for the kids! When I saw the hideaway bed, I stopped one of the cleaning staff and asked for sheets/blankets for the bed. She said that the sheets had been changed. We went to the pool. The smell of chlorine was overwhelming. They only swam for 30 minutes. Their eyes were so red! My 4 y/o cheeks looked like she had a chemical peel! We went back to the room to change. Within 45 min, my 6 y/o was complaining of a bad stomach ache & spent the night throwing up (from swallowing pool water). Hubby was watching the KU game on the couch and kept smelling something. It was wet and there was urine on the cushions! Disgusting!!!! Bedtime and those sheets that had been changed, HADN'T! They were waded in the center of the bed & smelled. I went to the front desk & again ask for clean sheets. Since the hotel was booked we couldn't switch rooms & there is no cleaning staff after 3pm. I had to change the sheets myself & took the dirty sheets back to the front desk so they weren't in our room. The night attendant said he would note everything & to talk to the front desk in the morning for a credit. The next morning we talked to the front desk for a credit to find but since we booked through Hotels.com, a credit request had to go through them. Two weeks later I am told by hotels.com that Best Western Lawrence will not issue a credit for our stay. I called the hotel and spoke with Mark who told me that they would not credit a 3rd party vendor and had I booked through them instead I would have been taken care of. A customer is a customer regardless of what site they use to book. Any consideration of giving this hotel another try (had they made things right) is gone. I do not advise staying here!!

    « wonderful hotel »

Very comfortable at a great price. We will be staying at Best Western hotels from now on where available. The three bedroom suite came with two televisions and the room was large. The indoor pool area was very clean as well as the hot tub. The hotel is centrally located in Lawrence, KS where many restaurants and attractions are close by. We had an overall good experience.

    « Volleyball Tourney »

This is the 3rd time we've stayed here in the past year, and it was our worst trip. We booked two rooms, one for us and one for another teammate. When we called to change the name on their room, they put both in their name. Minor issue they fixed. Breakfast starts at 6 am which is nice if you have to leave early. Breakfast this trip was horrible. Ran out of food on the buffet by 7 am and when we went to the back to see if they had more, the kid cooking was just sitting down in the back, cooking NOTHING. Milk was spilled all over the buffet. Sausage brought out was cold. Checking out was slow as well. It seemed like they did not have enough staff on hand to keep up. They asked upon checking in if we were part of volleyball team booked, chess team booked, or dance team that was booked. They knew the hotel was full, but didn't staff to take care of the guest. Vending machine by the breakfast area was empty too, unless you wanted snickers, M & M's, or plain Lays. Each had minimum of 5 facings in the machine. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. Location is good as well. Parking places seem a little small, but seems like there was plenty of it. Shares a parking lot with Chilis, so don't have to drive to get dinner or drinks. Walmart and Super Target are about 3-4 miles down the road. CVS is across the street and is convenient, but closes at 10. We have always had an interior room, they have another building not attached that has exterior access rooms.

« Close to Allen Fieldhouse »

Great place to stay for a KU game. Husband and I came down together this time but family friendly too. Right down the street from Allen Fieldhouse. Nice clean quiet rooms. Will definitely come back to stay for another game. Would recommend to a friend. Rock Chalk!

    « Meh »

Hotel has a motel (exterior doors) part and we were put there. This is not clear in the hotel description or when we made reservations; I would have requested a hotel room if it were. There was no hot water. When I mentioned this on checkout, the clerk said it had been an ongoing problem. When I said i would have appreciated knowing that on check-in, the clerk apologized and applied a $20 discount to my stay (much appreciated). The bathroom needed an upgrade; very worn.

« Very comfortable and affordable »

Compared to other hotels in Lawrence, this hotel offers everything you need for a reasonable price. It is clean and the hotel staff is friendly. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and I recommend it to others who need a place to stay in Lawrence.

    « Room / Check in issues »

We we arrived at the hotel - we were checked into an Outside room of the hotel which was not advertised during purchase online. We also were checked into a room that was not cleaned. We had to switch rooms twice during our visit - due to space issues.

« If you have any allergy issues at all, avoid that exterior building at all costs! »

I booked a non-smoking room and they initially put me in a TINY room in their outer building that had clearly been a smoking room. We were in the room for about 3 minutes and both me and my guest got a sinus headache. We called the front desk and they switched us to the interior building which was a bigger, cleaner room with a much nicer smell. The rooms are nice if you are able to stay in the interior building. Breakfast was OK, nothing to write home about.

« Comfy beds, quite rooms »

I checked in to this hotel at midnight, after along day of driving. Check in was quick and the guy at front desk was polite too and I was in my room with in a few minutes. The beds were comfy and I got a much need great nights sleep. The room was spacious and clean, The bathrooms were clean too and plenty of hotwater for a shower in the morning. The hotel was fairly busy but I never heard anyone above me or in the parking lot. I left before breakfast, so I never got to try it. All in all in a great place to stay.

    « Good »

I like this hotel. The room was big and clean. Its location is the miidle of the town near the KU and the staff very kind, except this time the room had been cleaned just one during my staying and the breakfast was very poor

« Good Location near University, clean and no issues »

Dependable hotel near the university campus, clean rooms and good service. Bedding is good, and internet service and morning breakfast offering is good. Within walking distance to a number of local restuarants. Good value for the price.

« Great hotel with a poorly done breakfast »

Stayed here this past Friday night and last night. This is a very clean hotel that appears it may have been recently remodeled in the past year or two. We had a 3 double bed suite. The room was very clean. The negative issues with our room were: The fridge did not work, the pillows are awful, and the shower head does not tilt down at all, so when you run the shower, water sprays all over the back wall of the shower and even with the curtain fully closed, still gets water all over the floor. The free breakfast here sucks. You truly are better off just going out and paying for a breakfast. They serve those fake tasting eggs that come in perfect circles. The sausage patties taste cheap and mass produced. They have hash browns and biscuits as well that are kept in a steamer, which pretty much steams the life out of everything and leaves the hash browns and biscuits soggy. They have a waffle maker, but the syrup is that cheap pre-packaged Kraft brand syrup. This was basically the cheapest easiest breakfast a hotel could throw together. If they would put a little more effort and quality into their breakfast, I really think it would be a great selling point through many high star reviews. The pool area was all functional and well maintained. This hotel is located in a great location in Lawrence right across from the KU campus.

« Ok but not great »

Hotel was clean, staff ok but not exceptional, breakfast standard. This hotel is always consistent. Quiet and convenient. Could use a little update in the rooms. This hotel is close to our family so we like to stay there. It serves the purpose we need.

    « Great location »

This is a decent hotel that is in a great location in Lawrence. Good value for the money. The hotel in at a major intersection, and a short drive to KU's campus and Lawrence's awesome downtown. Very cheap taxi rates from the hotel to any spot in town. The hotel has a helpful and friendly staff. great people day and night.

    « Wonderful Service! »

We recently had a weekend stay as we were in town for our college visit to KU for our son. After we arrived back home, our son informed us that he had left his retainer in the room. When I contacted the property they went above and beyond in helping me. They found the retainer in the room and mailed it back to me right away. Thank you! Really appreciate the wonderful Customer Service!

    « Ok ... Nothing special »

One night stay traveling for business. Checked TA and went with the recommendation to stay in the main building, not the annex. Front desk service by the young men working both the night and morning shifts were much less than impressive nor friendly. Room was fine but no soap, shampoo, etc on the bathroom. Ok one night stay but nothing to cause me to highly recommend thus hotel.

« Dirty room and linen »

I have stayed at this hotel many times a year but this will be my last. First I was given a totally uncleaned room with unmade bed and TV on. Then the room I did get was missing a TV that had been there on previous visits. The linens on the bed were wrinkled like the bed had been remade but not changed. there was a hair on one pillowcase. there was also a dirty towel on the rack in the bathroom. After telling the manager the next morning, he still charged me half price for the labor of running the room. Also the hallway carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed for days.

    2
    « Don't expect much »

This property is just okay with relatively clean rooms but pretty poor customer service. The hallways looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in days and the elevator had a sticky spill in it for at least two days. Returned to our room after being gone from 9am to 3pm and it hadn't been touched. After calling front desk, someone came 30 minutes later, but was as interested in watching our TV as in doing his job. Discovered coffee maker had quit when we got up at 5am, but front desk said they couldn't get a replacement to us until housekeeping arrived at 9am. They did say we could walk from our building to the main building in the freezing rain to get coffee from the breakfast room.

My husband and I came up to Lawrence to stay at the best western for the KU home football game . The room we got was in the main building , the room was very clean and neat. Our daughter loved swimming in the pool. The staff was very friendly , as well as very helpful. The breakfast had many choices and the breakfast attendant made us feel right at home. She was energetic , friendly , and kept the breakfast area clean. We enjoyed the conversation as well. Was very overall impressed with this hotel , definitely recommend it.

« Heavily used and well maintained »

We quickly got the impression that this hotel stayed heavily booked, especially by visitors to the University of Kansas at Lawrence. Despite this, the property is clean and well-maintained. The desk clerk was thoroughly familiar with nearby restaurants and with street directions, which always helps.

    « Service issues »

The overall cleanliness and appearance of the room and hotel were nice, although we did not enjoy the stay because of the poor service. When we arrived, after making a reservation 2 weeks in advance, our room was not ready and we were moved into a different room. We stood in the lobby for forty five minutes waiting for a room. We had originally reserved a two queen bed room and were given a king bed room. There were four of us, therefore it made things complicated. They also had told us there was a pull out bed in the couch, there wasn't even a couch in the room. They said they would bring a roll away but would charge us for it. We also called for extra pillows and towels, which were never brought to us or changed for the next day. I rated this hotel negatively because of the service not the quality.

« Look, Ma, no blankets! »

This is an older, well maintained properly and heavily used. It's just south of KU's Western Campus, about a half mile to a mile from the U's main buildings. It's maybe ten minutes south of I-70. It's on two heavily used cross streets behind another commercial property so I found locating and entry tricky in rush hour. From here you can get to most of Lawrence in under ten minutes. All that said, everything works even if worn. One odd thing: the bedding seems to be two sheets, one slightly more substantial than the other. I hadn't seen this before so I swiped the sheet from the other bed to get warm. That was a mistake; once the heater kicked on, the room got pretty toasty. I suppose the "sheeting" is a new fad in bedding. All else was typical Best Western, although the front desk guy -- must have been a student -- wasn't sure where you could find a steak house in Lawrence. The breakfast was also solidly done and the WIFI easy to access -- my tests of acceptability. Bedding was OK - I slept well. Lots of pillows.

The clerk took time to find my membership number, even though there were several people waiting to register for a room. He called his supervisor and asked for help. He did not make me feel as if I taking too much of his time.

    « Just passing through »

My husband and I stayed here when we were on a long road trip. The hotel is clean and the staff is nice. There is a Chili's in the parking lot and a Freddy's across the street. We were only here for one night. We went to bed early and left the hotel by 5:00 AM. Breakfast is available at 6 so we missed it. The hotel was quiet and the location was great.

    « Visiting KU? Don't stay here »

Reserved a room at this hotel thinking it was close to the KU campus. It isn't! If you are visiting the campus, I suggest staying closer to the highway. We reserved a "suite" directly through the hotel's front desk. I was told that the suite included two queen beds in separate sleeping areas. Once in the room, found that the suite was a normal room with two queen beds. Tried to talk to a hotel manager only to find that there is no manager to speak with. At 4 in the afternoon we finally spoke with the manager who was completely unapologetic. Highly suggest staying at any other hotel. In addition to a bait and switch reservation system, the management is absent.

    3
« Be careful when booking »

This property has an entire set of smoking allowed rooms. I thought those were long gone. In any case, be sure to specify and select non-smoking when you book. We had to cancel and find other accommodations because at check-in the only rooms available were smoking, which we could not tolerate. At least we weren't penalized for the late cancellation, for what that's worth.

« Stay at Best Western in Lawrence, KS »

Very clean hotel and rooms and a very friendly, helpful staff. We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed our stay very much. Hotel location is excellent--close to restaurants, grocery store, CVS, and gas stations. Also very close to KU campus.

My daughter left her piggy bank there when we checked out. I called the hotel the same day, with in hours, to see if we could come pick it up, They said that we would have to wait for housekeeping. They never turned it in. I asked them to look at their security cameras and they told me, "If housekeeping wrapped it in a towel we wouldn't be able to see." I called customer service and reached out to the manager, no one has followed up or even tried to make it right.

    « Basic Hotel »

We stayed at the Best Western because of it's proximity to the KU campus. I will say the price was good.Breakfast could have had better selections, and the hotel itself could use an updating. The rooms were ok,the pool was ok,but for as busy as it gets it needs to be kept up to date.
