The BEST WESTERN Rombalds Hotel is located in the Victorian spa town of Ilkley and is situated on the edge of the famous Ilkley Moor yet within walking distance of the town center. The BEST WESTERN Rombalds Hotel is a lovely Georgian town house run by resident proprietors. The hotel is pristine throughout, following extensive redecoration and the furnishings are in keeping with its 19th century architecture - an elegant facade with tall windows and inside high ceilings, archways and fireplaces. The quiet and extremely comfortable bedrooms range from suites to the more compact with showers. The lounge is a peaceful retreat where guests mingle in the cocktail bar. The diverse wine list and large selection of whiskies all add to making dining at the BEST WESTERN Rombalds Hotel a special experience. While business people may want to use the BEST WESTERN Rombalds Hotel's excellent conference facilities with its fully integrated electronic wall, others will enjoy Ilkley's boutiques, visiting Fountains Abbey, Bolton Abbey, Castle Howard or Harewood House and exploring the Bronte Parsonage in addition to Herriot Country. The more energetic guests may enjoy the nearby golfing, tennis, fishing and riding facilities or go on one or more of the beautiful walks in the Yorkshire Dales. Ilkley being around one hour's drive from the Lake District, the Peak District, York and the North East Coast, makes the BEST WESTERN Rombalds Hotel the ideal location for touring England's North Country. Hotel is completely non-smoking. Enjoy your stay.

    « A great choice of hotel. »

We had a superior suite, The Bronte which is at the front of the building. It has a bedroom, small lounge with tea/coffee making facilities and alsobath/shower room. Everything was to our liking with a reasonably comfortable, very large bed, two televisions, excellent free wifi and convenient location for acess to bars and restaurants in the centre of Ilkley. The reception was first rate with our receptionist able to advise on bars and restaurants. The hotel is a short distance up a steep hill from the centre of Ilkley, some may feel the need to use a taxi for that journey. We did not have breakfast here due to meeting friends and relatives for brunch elsewhere. The location is quiet and there is a car park at the rear, accessed just uphill from the hotel.

    « Good location, traditional. »

This is an acceptable Hotel for an overnighter. It's in a leafy road and very close to Town one direction and country walk the other. It's very traditional which we liked. Just to warn people it's a steep walk into Town down the hill. Breakfast was cooked to order which was a treat and it was very good, full Yorkshire breakfast with other choices too. Our double room was very small with very little elbow room either side of the bed. Having said that the room was clean with fresh white bed linen and towels and a well appointed bathroom, so for one night the size was ok. The staff were helpful and friendly.

« Nice hotel and great location. »

Nice hotel in a quiet leafy road close to town centre and close to good walks on the moors. Ilkely is a wonderful town with an amazing array of eateries all within walking distance of the Rombalds hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean with everything one could need. Our only complaint was that the room was very small and the bed was very uncomfortable but everything else was very pleasing.

    « A little gem! »

After our last experience in a Best Western establishment, this was a refreshing and pleasant stay in a lovely small hotel. On arrival we were informed we had been upgraded at no extra cost. The room was well appointed with tasteful decor and the King size bed was very comfortable. We didn't eat dinner but the competitively priced breakfast was delicious and cooked to order, something of a rarity these days. Free wi fi, very friendly employees and a short walk into town, I would not hesitate to recommend this fine hotel.

    « Good overnight stay »

This place is good if you are in Ilkley for a wedding, party, visiting friends etc. Makes a good overnight stop. It is handy for the town centre restaurants, shops etc. Close to the moors for a walk too if you want. Friendly staff, but not enough of them! The guy on reception was run off his feet, shuttling guests to their rooms which meant we had to wait a while to get served at the bar. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet - albeit a little small. Cannot comment on breakfast as we skipped it and ate in town, but you would need to be hungry to get your money's worth out of £13. Anyway, all academic as apparently (according to local sources) the place is closing next month for redevelopment. So, get in quick!

« Nice hotel close to moors and restaurants »

If you want a great base for walking the moors, with paths two minutes from the door AND close to the town centre with its pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops, then this is it. Turn left out of the door and you are climbing through bracken and heather to the hills, turn right and you are walking down to the town centre. Perfect. Slept really well here in a nicely appointed room. Great breakfast. Recommended.

    « Great Location »

The hotel tell is situated on Wells Road with great views of the moors, that's if you get a front room. Unfortunately my room was small and compact and overlooking a flat roof and the car park. The bathroom was tiny and the shower cubicle was the smallest I have ever used and I am a slim person! The staff were very helpful and friendly, the breakfast was good and I had a great meal at Saigon restaurant in Ilkley Town Centre. The staircase is steep so not sure if there are ground floor rooms. Nice place to stay, but for the money it cost my room was very disappointing!

« Step back in time »

This is a lovely hotel if you enjoy traditional styling and decor. We booked a delux room which turned out to be a very spacious and comfortable suite. With a 4 poster bed and baronial styling, our stay was a unique experience. Breakfast was both buffet and table service with a varied menu, beautifully presented and consistent with the Yorkshire palate. It's proximity to the moors makes it an ideal hotel for walkers and those that enjoy peace and quiet. We will definitely stay again.

    « Lovely Hotel »

The hotel is situated at the top of a very steep hill so be prepared. Apart from the bed being to soft and the veiw of a flat roof from our room we did enjoy our stay and overall the hotel is lovely and breakfast is fabulous.

    « Wonderful hotel »

Stayed at Rombalds for one night, and had a wonderful stay, tucked away just 10 min walk from the station, lots of space and areas to relaxe in/outside and just 5 min walk from the house where Charles Darwin stayed awaiting publication of "on the origin of species " Lots to see and do plus good quality English breakfast.

« Great stay at the edge of Ilkley Moor »

We had a family stay here with 3 rooms. Great welcome when we arrived. Very clean rooms, all in great condition. Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. Easy walk down the hill into Ilkley town center with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants to choose from. Highly recommended.

    « Traditional »

A hotel that still maintains traditional style, standards and service, although a full dinner service is no longer offered - there are many restaurants in town: the returning walk is a 10 minute up hill walk. Cold Breakfast buffet and a cooked to order choice was excellent. Very clean rooms and friendly staff together with a comfortable lounge that has a bar with a small snack menu make this a most acceptable establishment. No lift but help is at hand to carry luggage up - and down !

    « Great welcome »

Stayed here before going for a walk on Ilkley Moor. Great welcome, the room was quiet and tastefully decorated, with lovely views from the window. Small shower room which was clean and well appointed.

    « Rombalds Hotel »

Very Nice hotel Located on the outskirts of Ilkley on the edge of Ilkley Moor Good sized rooms Food top Class The Assistant Manager Nick Was First Class with his Knowledge About the Area will Definately use this Hotel again We can Highly Recommend ..

    « Comfort with Character »

A picturesque hotel in a great location. The accommodation and catering were excellent and the staff did all they could to ensure that my family, including a 4 month old baby, were comfortable. Although we did not use it. It was good to see the hotel car park had electric vehicle charging facilities. Well done Best Western and the Rombalds hotel staff in Ilkley!

    « Old-fashioned Charm. »

This is a very pleasant place. It's very much a traditional hotel - quite old-fashioned even, but in a good way. For example, I can't remember the last time I had a room key (as opposed to a card) or another one to let myself into the building when returning after 11.p.m. It's in a great location - the centre of Ilkley is a five minute walk down Wells Road which itself leads up towards the moor in the other direction. I stayed there on about the only truly hot day so far this Summer and two after it which were still quite sticky. My room wasn't huge (and I'd been upgraded) but it was certainly OK in respect of its dimensions. It was warm and there didn't appear to be any air conditioning but in another quaint touch, the window onto the garden opened fully, so that was adequate to provide some ventilation. The bathroom was clean and functional. The hotel's decor is interesting - it's very tidy, or at least it seemed so to me, and has what I'm guessing is a somewhat Georgian feel (though I'm not an expert in these matters) with the sorts of ornaments, mirrors and whatnot that you might find in a B.B.C. adaptation of a Jane Austen novel. In any case, the hotel wears its heritage quite proudly on its sleeve. This, in its way, is also quite charming. I found it a very quiet place indeed on two nights and slightly less so on the third, but that was due to other guests and they weren't exactly rowdy - this is, after all, Ilkley. I didn't eat in the hotel, so I can't comment on the quality of the food. If I was to stay in the town again, I would certainly return to Rombalds.

    « Great Staff »

A great hotel in a very nice area close to the centre of Ilkley and on the edge of Ilkley Moor. The manager Nick was very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was superb and Nick and Ian again were excellent in their service. The town of Ilkley is very nice, upmarket place with a great selection of bars and very nice restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

    « Comfortable and welcoming »

I had a short leisure stay here. Booking was easy and it was very good value. The hotel was spotless and the decor attractive, light and homely. Breakfast was good and included delicious fresh fruit, and I had a delicious bar meal in the evening, sitting outside among the trees of Wells Road.

    « Very comfortable »

We spent two nights here in this delightful old building as we were taking part in the MG run from Ilkley. We were greeted by a very pleasant young man, who showed us to our room, which although not large was very comfortable, clean and well-equipped. It overlooked the rear garden which leads to the car park. We found a space there, but if full there is plenty of free parking on the quiet road outside. We had stated that we would prefer a bath to a shower, but the young man explained that whilst there was no alternative available that night, it may be possible to swap for the second night. We did not bother as the sudden heatwave suddenly made a shower more attractive! We did not eat in the hotel, but the food looked very good- there was a buffet laid on for a private party the second day. There is a large comfortable lounge for guests, and lovely gardens at the front and back with separate areas for smokers and non- smokers. The resident dog was so loveable! We will definitely be back. The only downside for the less mobile would be the steep walk up from town.

    « Needs updated »

We had a suite which was perfectly suitable size wise with a pleasant view from the 2nd floor onto the street outside. The walk up the hill from the town centre was quite a challenge and this would be very difficult for a lot of people. In saying that, it was very close to everything. Overall the hotel was clean but I felt the room and some other areas should be updated as they seemed a bit tired.

« The perfect wedding venue »

Recently had our wedding at this lovely hotel. The room was set out perfectly for our ceremony, meal and reception while everyone enjoyed drinks in the beautiful garden. The staff were very friendly and so helpful to the entire wedding party. The rooms and food was all perfect. Couldn't have wished for a better setting or staff to help with our day. Thank you so much

    « Wonderful wedding »

Wow what can I say! Had our wedding here last weekend and can not recommend this place highly enough. The place and the staff are fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and they helped make our wedding perfect, the food was amazing and the rooms (especially the Douglas suite) were lovely. Thank you for everything x

« Very tired and full of brick a brac »

We stayed here only one night and whilst it was tired the staff were very attentive and carried our bag the two flights of stairs. ( had he not we would have needed oxygen once we got to our room) Our room was very small and the view over a flat roof out the back. I would say it was functional and was ok for one night but I wouldn't have enjoyed being here any longer.

    « A Warm Welcome at Rombalds »

I spent one night here with my 85 year old Mother last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a very warm welcome from James who couldn't do enough to help us. We had a lovely supper in the Bar area and breakfast the next morning was of the same high standard. The only downside was that the room we stayed in had a corner bath which my Mother couldn't get in! The room itself was lovely! We will be returning for another night in September and will check on access to the bath. All in all a very pleasant stay and well worth checking out if you are in the area

    « A nice weekend break! »

A small, friendly hotel in a good location. Would recommend it to anyone. The bar offered a basic but good range of meals and the small bar offered most things you'd want. Very friendly staff, especially the Manager, who sorted everything we asked for, including booking taxis to get us to a wedding. Small but tidy rooms with everything you'd need and plenty of parking. A nice weekend!

    « Decent hotel »

Was here for one night, although it had the name Best Western it is privately owned, so very English hotel. Decent rooms, good breakfast and nice staff and a plus is the shower! Most of the showers I have seen in English do not have pressure, but in this hotel it is good! Do not book this hotel if you cannot walk a very steep hill ??

    « Wonderful short break »

Our second visit to this hotel in 12 months and it didn't disappoint. Staff welcoming and friendly,( as was Milo the dog !) hotel very clean and very quiet ( bliss!) We stayed in a suite which was wonderful. Like a home from home having our own living room. Breakfast was very good, nothing exceptional, just good wholesome food to set you up for the day. Plenty of very good places to eat in the town which is just at the bottom of the road. A bit of a steep climb back up - but hey - we were on holiday no need to rush and there's plenty of seats along the road to sit and rest awhile should you need it. Lovely walks on the moors just up the road from the hotel - good footpath to The Tarn if you aren't an adventurous walker and don't have sturdy walking boots !! Lovely part of the country. Will be back.

    « Cosy hotel »

Lovely hotel on the edge of ilkley moor, rooms very clean, lounge bar very cosy. Staff all friendly especially James on reception and in the bar. Cooked breakfast very good, continental breakfast could have a bit more choice. Good location for walking the moor and easy walk into the town.

    « Excellent!! »

Excellent hotel and service to match, staff could not have been more helpful. Our room, Bronte Suite - room 14 was one of the nicest we have had in any hotel. Best scrambled eggs I have ever had for breakfast anywhere. Staff even printed off a walking map from the internet for us.

« Great for sleeping and breakfast, but not for dinner. »

If you crave a good night sleep, then this is as good a place as you'll get. A 6 foot wide, comfy bed with a selection of pillows, in a suite with a separate sitting room (so your partner can watch telly without disturbing you), facing a road with no traffic or noisy revellers........perfect. However, if you want dinner, then this hotel does not try to compete with the plethora of restaurants in Ilkley, only offering easy but good meals served in the lounge Breakfast is superb, beautiful selection of food. Curiously, the only staff person working in the afternoon/evening was James - a very professional, able and personable young man.......manning the reception, the bar and cooking dinners. A sterling effort James, well done.

« Lovely location close to moor and town »

We stayed 2 nights here and were welcomed and comfortable. The décor is a little dated but everything was clean and quiet and the staff friendly. We were travelling with a dog and the location was great with the moor in a few hundred yards. It is also close to White Wells and the Millennium garden - Charles Darwin took the water cure here. Breakfast was adequate although not outstanding. A short walk down a steep hill brings you into the town with pubs and restaurants, some dog-friendly. There was a car park behind the hotel and plenty of unlimited parking outside on the road (steep hill!).

    « Summary »

Delightful restored hotel well situated to station and historic areas. The closed restaurant is unfortunate. Well situated, adequate car parking. Charles Darwin would have loved the place; he did stay less than 100m away.

« Wonderful location, dated decor. »

This hotel is perfectly located a few steps from Ilkley Moor and in a quiet location. We enjoyed a peaceful weekend here, within easy reach of Ilkley's shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is of another era - the décor is definitely dated and the rooms lack style, although ours was spacious and comfortable enough. Breakfast is traditional - the hotel could make more of the fantastic local ingredients on its doorstep. Staff were generally helpful and the free trouble-free wifi was refreshing!

« Lovely hotel on edge of the Moors »

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for a work event in W Yorkshire The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and is in a beautiful location on the road that leads up to the Moors with a waterfall at the top of the road. My room was lovely: this hotel has character and is much nicer than a bog-standard travel-lodge etc. The room and the en-suite bathroom were lovely, clean and spacious and very cosy. I arrived late and the staff made sure i was left a key, got to my room ok etc. The only thing i can fault in this hotel was that the breakfast was not good: the tinned fruit tasted bad, like it was old and the cooked breakfast was cold and nothing about the breakfast seemed fresh and clean: even the cutlery/plates etc, so i didn't have dinner there. Saying this just so they can improve it! Also the lovely bath has no hand-held shower which can be really annoying if you want a quick shower /to wash ur hair. But it is a lovely place with lovely staff.

    « Weekend away »

Had a lovely time. Hotel small and quaint, tranqil and unobtrusive. Rooms traditional and comfortable. Staff, especially Jo very amenable and welcoming.. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious. Will definitely go back again.

    « Fabulous location, lovely pet-friendly hotel »

We spent two nights here in early April 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite (a spacious pair of rooms on the second floor), very well appointed and comfortable. The staff are most welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast was magnificent. Turn left out of the front door and in less than a minute you are on Ilkley Moor, and the beautiful walk up to the tarn (or wilder places according to choice). The town centre is a few hundred yards the other way, down the hill. Easy and free parking (a car park at the back and plenty of parking on the road at the front), and an elegant building too. Warmly recommended!

« Very comfortable and freindly »

The rooms are well appointed and clean, the staff are friendly but they are strict about booking in times. Good bar but don't have draught beers but that isn't a problem as there are lots of places in Ilkley

« Just what we wanted »

A lovely hotel with great staff and comfortable rooms. Breakfasts were just right with a good choice. Nice not to be in a soulless chain hotel. Easy walking into Ilkley a bit harder coming back but that's old age for you! Overall a really nice break.

    « Comfortable Stay »

We had on overnight stay here whilst visiting family in the area. The hotel is comfortable and old-fashioned, in a good way. The room contained everything you could want. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast plentiful with hot food perfectly cooked. Overall a very nice stay and we would happily return.

« Great value and location - lovely hotel »

If arriving by car, travelling UP Wells Road, turn into the drive at the right hand side of the building (the drive is shared with the houses next door). At the end, turn left into the hotel car park; there is a back door from there into the hotel. The hotel is charming with a lovely view, beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The lady on reception (one of the owners, I think) was very helpful and welcoming. Parking and WiFi are free, and there are lots of little extras: fresh fruit on the landings, and sweets and biscuits in the rooms, all complimentary. The toiletries were lovely too. Breakfast was included in the rate, and was delicious. As it's an old building there are no lifts, but the staff will help you with luggage. Great location, about a 5 minute walk into the town. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Pleasant stay »

My husband & I attended a funeral wake here on Thursday. We stayed the night as well, in room 12, which was a very nice & comfortable room. The buffet after the funeral was delicious, nicely presented & the staff were so very helpful! 5 of us had a light meal in the bar/lounge in the evening, which was fine. We had a really good nights sleep, and the breakfast was pretty standard fare. We would mention, that though the plate was hot, the two cooked tomatoes were not! Would stay again, the car park is great!

    « Very nice »

Just stayed the one night on a business trip and I was most impressed. A good location also for a walk on the famous moors. Lovely room with a great view and very fast ( free) Internet. The Breakfast was also great as were the very helpful staff who made the stay most enjoyable

    « A superb stay »

Rombalds Hotel on the edge of the breathtaking Ilkley Moor is a gem. There was plenty of carparking behind this lovely looking hotel and we were given a warm welcome arriving for a one night break. We had booked a double room but were upgraded to a comfortable suite with the biggest bed i had ever slept in!We had a fantastic day\\night in Ilkley and the best nights sleep ever.Breakfast was plentiful and delicious -we will return and tell our friends!

    « Old fashioned comfort »

This hotel is situated on the edge of Ilkley just below the moor. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast is traditional English properly cooked and served. Snacks or meals in the evening include one of the best stek and ale pie I have ever eaten.

« Well located, nice hotel with a few flaws »

My husband and I stayed here on a Friday night. Our room was comfortable and tastefully decorated with a small shower room. Minor annoyances were the tinkling central heating, creaky bathroom door (making it impossible to go to the loo in the night without waking the other person) and a few cobwebs. The bed and pillows were comfy and we slept well. Breakfast was a disappointment however, the tinned mandarins were oddly fizzy tasting and the cooked breakfast was on the cold side of lukewarm. The waiter didn't seem to understand about smoked vs unsmoked bacon and the sausage wasn't nice. It was served promptly though. Staff were all very pleasant and professional and the hotel well located for Ilkley centre (up a steep hill). Milo the dog is also friendly and super cute. On balance, more positives than negatives and we'll stay here again next time we have a night out in Ilkley.

    « Perfect retirement dinner »

Colin and Jo hosted my husband's retirement dinner in the hotel's Coach House. From beginning to end, the evening was perfect. The organisation was excellent and everything ran like clockwork. The room has a delightful atmosphere, spacious but not cavernous. The timing of the meal was spot on, as was the food and wine. You will be in safe hands if you hold a function at the Rombalds.

    « Nice stay »

A good hotel that matches the characteristics of the town. Friendly and efficient service throughout the trip. Only problem experienced was from a faulty that was quickly remedied. As the hotel is sited up a steep hill above Ilkley, it may be difficult for access for elderly or infirm people without means of transport.

    « Rombalds Hotel »

James on reception, bar and service is very pleasant and helpful and therefore is a great ambassador for the hotel. Good range of local bottled beer. Delighted to find Pieminster pies on the menu. Comfortable clean room. Breakfast was a real treat.

« Pre Xmas Weekend Stay for Wedding Party »

A lovely hotel.Very clean and well presented.A great breakfast and lovely staff.Would highly recommend to anyone.Great location for Ilkley town centre and the wonderful moors. We had 9 sets of friends staying with us and they all thought it was spot on.

    « great stay »

I stayed at the hotel for the 1st time and was very impressed, bags carried to the room without a second thought, this hotel is full of charm and the staff treat you with what I call old fashioned charm which is sadly missing from many a hotel. I had ordered a taxi in the evening which was late, they were very apologetic and made several calls to the taxi company all was well and I made it on time. I am staying again this weekend and hope to receive the same service.

    « Excellent Weekend Stay »

Very good family run small hotel, with a comfortable and friendly feel. Rooms on both this and a previous stay have been excellent. Location ideal for Ilkley Moor or the centre of town. Breakfast was excellent set me up for the day and was nicely presented.

    « Lumpy Beds »

One of the major things I expect from a hotel is that the bed is comfortable. Unfortunately the bed was far from this and coupled to radiators rattling I did not get a good nights sleep. I chose this hotel based on it having an electric car charge point, but this did not work. -Frustrating I found the staff helpful and the hotel was otherwise well appointed.

    « Warm and Welcoming!!! »

I always do some research before booking any hotel and again am confused by some of the comments posted. The Rombalds is a very quiet and exceptionally clean hotel which is decorated very well and is in keeping with Ilkley and the age of the building. If visitors prefer the more über modern hotels this is not for you. I having stayed in many hotels both modern and traditional and its lovely to stay in both but I prefer the decor and surrounding to reflect the place and the building, as does the Rombalds Breakfast was excellent and plentiful and the choices will suit any visitor either carnivore or herbivore. My room number 16 looked out over Wells road and up to the Moors and was both warm and comfortable and a perfect size for one person. Great to have all the usual amenities: iron, ironing board, tea and coffee etc Being a Yorkshire man who has lived in London for many years I love my visits back to Ilkley to visit my family and it is the town I was born and brought up in so to find such a charming and friendly hotel makes it all the more special. I will definitely be returning and am happy to be able to bring my dog with me next time. Many thanks and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the staff.

« Excellent venue for a reunion - a fine example of Yorkshire hospitality »

We attended a reunion at the hotel on the 21st Nov., and were well looked after. The menu was pre-arranged and the organisation to cope with dietary requests etc was very good which meant the service went very smoothly even though there was no seating plan. The staff were very attentive ensuring that everyone's needs were met. The food was very good and in generous portions - many commented on the fine quality of the beef. The room was very comfortable with everything we needed and replenishments of beverage items, toiletries etc. were freely available. The breakfast menu had a wide range of choice and was well-cooked and served efficiently by smart, friendly staff.

« Relaxing stay in a charming hotel »

Stayed here for 2 nights recently. The staff were friendly and polite, with a warm welcome especially from James on reception. Our room was comfortable, pleasant and clean, and although the toilet didn't flush too well and the water in the shower took a while to drain away, this didn't detract from our enjoyment. The bed in particular was extremely comfortable. The hotel was very quiet at night and we had a full English breakfast both mornings in a pleasant breakfast room. The location of the hotel is also good with a lovely view. It's walking distance from the lovely town centre of Ilkley although be warned, as the hotel is at the top of quite a steep hill, if you are not too fit or steady on your feet I would recommend going by car. We dined out in the town centre both evenings and although we walked home the first night we treated ourselves to a taxi the second night as I am not the fittest person in the world and I thought I was going to need oxygen! All in all a very pleasant stay, and not even the incessant rain put us off. Would definitely stay here again when next in this lovely part of England.

    « A nice weekend »

Stayed here one night and found the staff to be very friendly and polite, even ordering our taxi to take us for our meal. The room was clean tidy and had all the usual items required. All in all a nice stay.

« It's the little things that make a big difference..... »

This hotel is very well situated, on a steep hill just out of Ilkley centre, so that you're close to the centre of town, but it's lovely and quiet at night. The hotel itself is obviously a very characterful building and we found all of the staff that we met to be very friendly and helpful. The room that we had was a very good size, with furniture in keeping with the overall style of the hotel and a huge, very comfortable bed. But, it is the little things that make a big difference, and this is where we felt that the hotel let itself down. Some of these points would be very minor niggles on their own, but taken altogether have probably cost this review 2 stars. These include; The toilet cistern held so little water that flushing it properly meant giving it 2 or 3 flushes. But, the refill speed was incredibly slow, with a 10 minute wait required between flushes. Hotel water bills must be very high, but I suspect that in this case the attempt to reduce that bill will have back-fired, as well as making life difficult for guests. One of the very nice, heavy material, window blinds wouldn't lift. Some of the electric sockets didn't work. The shower drain was somewhat blocked, and the trickle of water from the shower suggested further water saving measures. The sink tap was a little loose. Only one dressing gown wss provided. The breakfast wasn't great - and certainly not worth £12! Boring and bland would be the kindest description. The coffee was good, but lukewarm; the mushrooms weren't even warm, but cold; the scrambled eggs were anaemic and also barely warm. The toast was limp (apart from the gluten free alternative, which was OK). At the price of the room with the additional breakfast (£125) we'd expect to be impressed, although not wowed, but we won't be back.

    « Excellent »

Wondeful hotel, great décor & service. Staff were very friendly. The location was great with fantastic views of The Moors. Would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was of good quality along with fast service.

Beautiful hotel, good location. Close to city centre, but far enough away not to be disturbed by traffic noise etc. Very clean and well presented. Excellent service. Our room (number 26) was VERY small. but others are probably larger

    « Lovely hotel »

I really liked this hotel. Loved the furnishings and the décor and all areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean. The room was on the small side but warm and comfortable. The staff were all efficient, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Would recommend this hotel but just one thing to note it is up quite a steep hill so if you have walking difficulties you will need a car.

« A very comfortable and welcoming base for the Dales Way »

Peacefully located just off the very centre of the town, within easy walking distance of the station, this is the perfect starting point for us elderly men to commence their walk along the Dales Way. Slightly old world spaces and furnishings but extremely warm welcome and attentiveness from the staff , incredibly comfortable beds, and a wonderful breakfast got the tour off to a great start.

« Shame about the pet policy. »

The hotel is ideally situated for Ilkley town and for walking on the moor. Very friendly welcome at reception with a list of dog friendly restaurants and pubs as unfortunately, our dog was only allowed in the room and not in any of the public areas of the hotel, despite a charge of £10 for the night! This meant that instead of our usual after dinner drinks taken in hotel lounge/bar, we had to go out for the evening and ended up sitting in the garden with a bottle of wine bought in the town. Apart from that, the hotel was clean and warm with nice touches such as fruit bowls and hospitality top ups on the landings and couldn't fault the staff.

    « Return to Ilkley »

We returned to Ilkley to do more of the excellent day hikes over Ilkley Moor and Panorama Woods and to visit Haworth and walk to Top Withens. The hotel is in an excellent location for the moor and only a few hundred yards from the centre of Ilkley. The hotel staff are very helpful and welcoming, the breakfasts excellent and there is a reasonable range of evening meal opportunities in the lounge bar. The suites are excellent, especially if you are travelling with small dogs!

    « Great hotel »

I stayed in the rombalds because my usual hotel was booked up, and can honestly say I'm glad it was. The hotel is in a great location the room was very good the food was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I will definitely be going back

« Full of character, wonderful setting with excellent staff »

You approach the hotel up a beautiful tree lined avenue and at first sight you will probably think, well it looks OK. Parking is round the back up a fairly narrow road but by no means difficult. And then you step inside and it gets better and better. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist who couldn't have been more helpful and offered to carry our bags up but we hadn't brought them in, so he showed us to our room. When I went back down I asked for his assistance and he gladly came out to the car and helped with the luggage. Rather unusually when I tipped him he said it was unnecessary and was going to give it back...I haven't had that before and of course didn't accept it back. We booked a deluxe double room through Best Western themselves, we ended up with the Bronte Suite, Very nice thank you. I think they upgraded us as we joined their reward scheme at the time of booking, certainly worth keeping in mind when you book for the first time. Either that or they gave it to us as we are such nice people :-) I loved the character of the place, if you want shiny and new with chrome and glass everywhere this isn't for you. Yes the floorboards creak, the doors and windows don't close easily and the decor could do with a bit of a refresh, this is a very old property full of character and lovely finishing touches, it was wonderful. The room was large with ensuite shower over the bath, a massive, comfortable bed and good facilities; tea, coffee, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, plenty of towels, toiletries and 2 TV's, one in the small sitting room. A really nice touch, you could refresh your tea etc from a table on the landing, for free, and there was fresh fruit as well. We also had a window seat overlooking the avenue, very picturesque and relaxing. Breakfast was very good, served in a lovely breakfast room with good choice. Again the staff were very friendly and efficient and it came quickly, was hot and delicious. It is a 10 min walk to the town centre, Ilkley itself is stunning, be aware its uphill on the way back, no problem to us but if you are a bit immobile it might represent a challenge, so take the car there is plenty of parking in town. Lots of very good restaurants, shops galore, Bettys Tearoom!! If you like walking it is on your doorstep, literally. Turn left out of Rombalds and it is right there in front of you, beautiful walks across Ilkley moor and beyond. Harrogate is about 35 mins in the car and York just over an hour. Rombalds is a three star hotel, clearly this must be to do with the facilities. I have stopped in worse four star hotels. It is a lovely hotel in a stunning location with first class service, really you should try it

    « Superb! »

Warm, friendly and tranquil, that's the best way I can describe this hotel. The decor is superb, although not to my personal taste, with many a marble-topped table in the lounge! Great selection of local bottled ales (I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ilkley Black!) support a simple menu. If I have one gripe it is the limited choice on the menu - 7 mains available, 2 of which are cold meat platters, and 2 of which are pies. As someone who eats no meat other than fish and doesn't like a pie, my choice was restricted to the fish cake. However that would be the only negative thing I would say about a hotel that has a great location, is impeccably well looked-after, and is very reasonable on the pocket too!

« Good Value for Money »

Stayed a couple of nights in the Hockney suite. The suite was nice although the tele in the living room section kept going out of tune and I must say the bed was small and most definitely needs a new mattress. It has a massive dip in the middle and was not very comfortable. All the staff were extremely polite and helpful and we had a little bar food and a few drinks which were all very nice. Breakfast in the morning was also excellent. Good private car parking at the rear of the property Nothing was to much trouble. This hotel proved to be a great place for our stay in Ilkley and we most certainly will be back at some stage

« Quiet Hotel in Great Location »

We stayed at Rombalds Hotel over the August Bank Holiday and were pleased with the hotel. Good car parking and the hotel had a small country house feel. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Its in a good location, just a few minutes walk downhill into Ilkley town centre - so bear in mind that's an uphill walk on the return!
