    « Location, Location, LOCATION!!!! »

Have stayed many times at this Best Western? It is right IN the MEDICAL CENTER and very close to EVERYTHING pretty much!!! The only thing closer is the Marriott which costs a lot more!!! And while the Best Western is kind of on a small scale, not real fancy and not new? it does have a fine staff and cleaning crew. They TRY VERY HARD to keep things nice, but sometimes it is quite an impossible job! On the up side, they do keep lemonade and two big pots of good, fresh coffee going in the lobby at all times, complimentary. THAT is very nice? My husband and I much prefer the regular rooms as opposed to a suite because children are more likely to have stayed in the suite due to it's larger size. The one we stayed in once smelled strongly of urine? which the cleaning staff did spray to make it smell better. But, unfortunately, nothing except a new carpet will really fix that! Also the AC in the regular rooms are much better for sleeping as they do not cut on and off completely as do the ones in the suites. We understand that the building being constructed next door will be a new addition to this hotel. And that they will then completely redo the original hotel? which it does need. BUT? my concern is that all the nice new construction and refurbishing will cause the rates to go through the roof. Right now they are still where regular middle class folks can pretty much afford it? Hope it stays that way!!!

« Needs serious cleaning and updating »

While the staff is very helpful and freindly, the rooms are quite spacious and the breakfast is quite tasty, my room smelled very musty and the carpet was filthy. If they replaced the carpet and did a major cleaning, this could be a very nice property.

    « Worst Service »

First thing I had trouble with is no wifi service. Constantly dropped the connection or once logged in to router it said no internet! Next my refrigerator was not working and the front desk told me to move it to another wall and try a different outlet, as maintenance wouldn't be in until the next day. Then I tried the microwave and it didn't work either. I noticed the breakfast area was closed with caution tape so we shall see if we get our breakfast in the morning. The dresser drawers are broken. And outlets on the desk lamp don't work even though the lamp does. The router is falling off the wall. If you can't find another room, drive further or sleep in your car.

    « Clean comfortable room. »

Stayed one short night and found the room to be comfortable and had the amenities needed. Room AC unit didn't get the room as cool I had hoped but it wasn't uncomfortable. Location was convenient to the medical facilities.

    « Great stay »

I believe that the Best Western had friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and spacious rooms, good location to medical center and great price. The breakfast is decent and free internet is wonderful.

    3
« Nice hotel for the price »

I thought the hotel staff was professional. The hotel and the room was very clean, breakfast was good. My only disappointment was not having a restaurant on the premises with the limited amount of restaurants in the aea.

    « improvement wont hurt »

closest of hotel to medical ctr. all shuttle rides were great drivers very courteous and friendly overall and was a plus to the trip and very helpful when parking is quite expensive over time not bad but improvement needed.

    4
« Stay at Houston Medical District »

Price, proximately location to medical district, on the hour shuttle service, friendliness of employees, breakfast included, all of these are reasons I would stay here again and would recommend others to also.

    5
    « medical stay »

medical stay. hotel was very quiet, clean, ran out of parking space. had to go to parking lot next door and pay. not expensive, only $8.00s does not take cash, only credit card. a lot of building construction. next door. they started work at about 7 am, and quit work at about8 pm. we were on that side of the hotel and we never heard them working.

« Great Value near Rice and Medical Center »

I stayed 4 nights at this hotel while attending my Rice University class reunion and reconnecting with many other friends and family. Our suite was comfortable and clean, and everything was convenient. The location was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The internet kept cutting out on me, but I persevered and did fine.

    « Best Value »

This hotel is always a great value for the area. I come to the area for medical appointments at MD Anderson and they have the best room rate for patients. The hotel rooms are getting a little old but clean and the construction noise next door starts too early in the morning.

    4
    « Medical Appointments »

Excellent moderately priced hotel if you need to go to MD Anderson or any of the other hospitals in the Texas Medical Center. Although hotel is somewhat old and needs new carpet on certain floors and other updating, the staff was very nice and accommodating & caring. A lot of the folks that stay there seem to be going through medical stuff and the staff seems sensitive to that being the case and are very kind and caring.

    5
    « Always a refuge from a stressful situation »

This is our second time to stay here due to a medical reason for our child. The staff was just as friendly as the last time. For the price and the area, it doesn't get much better IMO. The rooms are comfortable. It is quiet, despite being located off Main Street and near so many medical complexes. The breakfast is very good and the staff keeps it stocked with fresh items. The breakfast room is also nice and big. The only negatives I have are the extremely tight parking, but it is free, so I will live with it. Also, the hallways are very narrow, but again, nothing I can't live with. We have to go back in March. It is where we are staying again.

« BED BUGS, ROACHES & TERRIBLE INTERNET »

I was (am) here for a training at Rice University and it seemed a great location. However, I made the mistake to prepay my entire 8-day stay! *Day one: bad internet! When I reported the internet the clerks at the front desk transferred me to a outsourcing service that did nothing to make it work. *Day two: broken shower and Internet! I reported that the shower was broken and that I needed to take a shower to leave the hotel. The answer: we cannot change you to another room because it is full and you need to wait until maintenance comes to fix it. Again, another outsourced service! I reported it in the morning and the person showed up at 6:30!PM. Wasted my entire day waiting and they did not find a suitable solution. *Day three: I noticed some bites on my skin and Internet! I came down to the reception because I was being bitten by bed bugs! I reported it to the clerk and she said that she would check with the manager. I waited two hours and nothing was being done. I saw the cleaning staff and requested a change of linen immediately and they did, which made it better. When I came down to the reception they said that they were going to check the room... I am still waiting for them to come! Nothing was done and they haven't checked back with me. *Day four: internet got worse! I had been reported the internet constantly and the inefficiency of their outsourced company seems not to reach the ears of the managers! BAD service! The problem has not been solved and the internet service is atrocious! * Day five: food poisoning! Breakfast is the same everyday and my stomach could not handle it today. I needed to run to the pharmacy for some medicine for my indigestion, which got worse this morning right after breakfast. A guest approached me and said to me: "are those eggs? Don't eat them. God knows what they really are!" Day 6: roaches! I saw big roaches in the parking lot. I have seen them for two nights in a row! I was wondering if they were near the kitchen! I said to myself: I hope not! Anyways, I am not eating there anymore. Let alone the roaches in the parking, I found two small ones in my room! I chased them all night! I do not want to ask to be changed to another room, since they will pay no mind to my request! Internet continues to be bad and nothing has been done... so, this roach business will fly under their radar. I am writing on day 6 and I have two more days! If they do not address their issues... consider a different hotel. It is a pity, si ce the location is good and the facilities could give more of what they are now offering.

    5
« Not up to what you want, they'll fix it! »

Have stayed here many times since 2013. Have NEVER had a major issue. Very close to hospital and clinic that we needed. When couldn't walk, shuttle was always there. Breakfast is actually decent, hot and cold. Staff is very caring and mindful of needs. Older hotel but book online for best rates! Parking can be a challenge sometimes. Valet will be back 2017

« good location to medical However »

This property is not what I am accustomed to in using Bestwestern plus hotels , needs work , it was such a disappointment the cable was out, no local channel although we were told it was a a problem with Direct TV! I find that hard to believe after 3 days Also the breakfast room was serving food that was past its time especially the fruit which was spoiled I threw away the pairs myself, it is so sad that people who are compromised recouping from medical problems and are there with families had to endure that Clean it up BW

« Best Place to stay if you are on a medical visit, because of location and warmth of personnel »

We choose this place because of location, once there we found a warmth place and with people who tries to help you beyond expectations. They knew we were in medical visit because of a baby grandaughter in UCI. Mr. Timothy Miller Every morning and nite asked about baby's health and were very concerned about our all day long stay at hospital. Jazmine cared everymorning about our well being and that we had a good stay. We had to stay lo ger than expected, and seems were booked, but Jocelin did a wonderful job and was able to make our stay longer....Well even Arthur and Patrick ( car valets) were always ready with our car, and a smile all the time. The rooms were nice, and clean, no doubt Mr Miller does a wonderful job checking all details....even the elevator! ?????? I dont want to miss a name, so I can say that its a good warm place where I without doubt will return in my next visits to Children's Texas.

« Best Western International at Medical Center Houston »

This hotel is one of the very best in the area. The rooms are always clean and fresh; the hotel staff are very helpful and friendly; the parking will be better when the new parking area is finished but until then there is free valet parking. Breakfast is complete, good and has many choices.

    3
« Decent budget option on TMC campus »

This is not a luxury hotel for vacation splurging! It is, however, a reasonably clean, value priced option if you need to be near anything at the Texas Medical Center or Rice University. Decor is pretty worn-out, but a convenient hot breakfast is included each morning (eggs, sausage, cereals, pastries, yogurt, waffles, fruit, and beverages). During our stay, major construction was going on, both across the street and next door, but we really weren't bothered by excess noise and our King bed was actually extremely comfortable, so we slept well. All staff we encountered, from valet parking (which was free!) to the front desk, were pleasant and helpful. Our total cost, with taxes, for a seven night stay was just about $1000, which we considered money well spent considering convenience, the all-inclusive price (no sneaky additional costs), basic cleanliness and friendly staff.

    « Staff-jasmine »

Had to stay 9days for MD Anderson for my dads cancer testing, rooms were clean, friendly staff. Also want to reckonize jasmine for always having a smile on her face, always friendly, kind words, with all that I was going through that helped me out more than words can explain I will definitely be back to this hotel just because of how friendly and welcoming she was.

    « Local TV channels »

Room was reasonably clean. Elevator would not open when we went to 2nd floor. Worked on other floors. Seems like an old hotel. Only 2 small elevators for whole hotel. Had Direct TV but could to get local channels. Front desk said they called Direct TV to fix it. I checked Direct TV web site and found out that hotels have to pay extra for local channels and it's based on the number of rooms in the hotel. I suspect they are not paying for this extra feature. Staff was friendly and apologetic. I would not stay there again.

« Best Hotel, Houston Medical Center Area »

Easy Walk to visit our grandson who spent 6 months at Texas Children's Hospital. Complimentary parking so no hassle. Pretty good breakfast. In-room coffee maker & mini fridge. Rooms were clean. Coin-operated washer & dryer. We visited many times during his stay. Tried a few others in the area but Best Western is our favorite.

    3
    « Not too bad »

The hotel was very plain. The bed was comfortable. There is construction right next door that takes up some of the parking and the noise early in the morning from construction was fairly loud. The room was clean, but overall it just seemed dingy and well worn. I wouldn't have a problem staying here again, but honestly for the price I expected much nicer experience overall. The staff were helpful and nice enough.

    3
    « Convenience >comfort? »

We visited Rice University for the weekend and booked this hotel due to the proximity to the campus. I doubt we will stay here again due to the humidity in the room. The outdated AC unit adds humidity to the room to where everything including the sheets feel wet. It's much more humid in the room than it is outside! The parking is a challenge, however they have complimentary valet if you are willing to wait a bit. Breakfast was frozen egg patties, link sausage, turkey sausage patties, biscuits, gravy, waffles, pastries, fruit. So there is something for everyone. There is a small indoor pool and hot tub that looked nice. Beds are comfy (minus the wet feel) and the carpet in our room looked to be new. Wifi is spotty at best. For the location/price it isn't bad, but I don't think I would book again.

    « Will not return »

So many problems!! Upon arrival, I was stuck in the elevator briefly (it did finally move up to another floor and open), bedside phone broken (told front desk on first night and it was never fixed), no major TV channels (ABC/NBC/CBS all out-was told there was a problem with Direct TV for the past several days and the man who would fix it had not called them back, it was not fixed during my stay), internet wouldn't work (spoke to front desk-router happened to be in my room, internet worked after unplugging it and allowing it to reset, I had to do this every time I used the internet), homeless man inside building when I was checking out (front desk clerk told him to leave or she would call police), valet people rude (rudely told the taxi driver to pull up past the valet stand, but upon arrival the car in front of him didn't pull up so the taxi could not either, at the time the valet spoke to him, I was exiting the car so of course he could't pull forward), in room air dryer only worked briefly (went out after about 3 minutes). Beds were comfortable. Price adequate.

    3
    « It's okay »

It's okay. Pretty clean and the service is alright too. Just kind of older and run down. Maybe because it's downtown? Can't beat the location though. Close to everything in downtown Houston. Lots of great eats nearby as well.

« MY RECENT STAY AT THE Best Western Plaza Hotel & Suites at Medical Center, HOUSTON,TEXAS. »

I was in Houston for heart transplant check up at ST.Lukes Hospital Medical Tower I have used this same hotel for roughly 18 yrs now.Have always been extremely satisfied at the location, right across from the Towers and down the street from the hospital. The free breakfast is good and the waffles are excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. All in all I am very satisfied and will continue using this hotel for my check-ups.

    2
    « Mixed Bag »

I don't want to trash this place too bad since staff, location, and price are all good. But everything else makes me not want return. Our first room smelled so bad (musty smell?) that after about 30 minutes we needed to switch rooms. The new room was better, but had a running toilet that never stopped. Also saw some ants in the bathroom as well. Otherwise the beds were surprising comfortable and the room relatively clean. Overall the place is just run down. Hallways were dirty, vending machines didn't work one night, elevator is ancient, and parking was a major issue. Construction next door took away half the spots, but the hotel was doing free valet, and they would reimburse you if you parked in the pay lot next door. Friendly staff, and only about a 10-15 minute walk to MD Anderson made the stay. Next time though I think I might pay a little more and try another hotel in the area and hopefully get a little more for the $.

    4
« Nice hotel, good price »

Clean rooms, complimentary "real" breakfast, convenient location. Close to the huge medical campus of Houston, with free hourly shuttle to the hospitals. The beds are comfortable, the rooms spacious. I felt comfortable here. The only disadvantage was no restaurant in this hotel.

    4
    « MD Anderson »

I wish the van would leave the hotel earlier than 7am so I wouldn't have to drive my car and fight Houston morning traffic but that is just me. I have stayed at this one hotel for 14 years now off and on a few months at a time..

    « Very handy »

When expecting a newborn grandbaby across the street at the Childrens Hospital, this hotel made it very convenient to stay. You never know when a baby will make it's appearance and you always want to stay handy.

    4
    « Great location »

If you need to be close to Baylor Clinic for medical appointments and care, this is the Hotel to book. Walking distance to CHI Hospital and Baylor Clinic. Felt very safe, rooms were clean and the staff was excellent.

    2
« Close to Medical Center but be prepared for allergies to act up »

This hotel is walking distance to Medical Center and the price is pretty good. However, be prepared to be dissapointed by the actual room. It smells like mold, the carpet feels wet and the room has not been updated in decades.

    3
    « BW Medical Center »

Room was very clean, although dated . Good beds, slept well. Location to medical center very good! Looks like a long haul so will probably stay again especially since they seemed most reasonably priced in area.

    3
« Very convenient for the medical center »

Nice hotel but needs some updating and minor improvements. Very convenient to the medical center and they offer discounted rates as well as a shuttle to the medical center. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

    4
« Great deal for medical patienrs »

The staff was very accomodating on our visit. The free shuttle to hospital/doctor visits is very nice and the van driver is very polite and helpful. The rooms are nothing special and could use some updates but all in all a good deal.

    5
    « Awesome place!!! »

This hotel has awesome staff, and the rooms are nice. When I go, I normally go for my son's appointments at the Childrens hospital, we love this hotel. It's always clean, and the housekeepers are awesome. The front desk is friendly, and are always smiling. They treat you like family.

    3
« Good location but needs work »

This hotel is in desperate need of an update. The carpet in the hallways looks dirty and is a very distressed pattern. Close to the Medical Center so many patients and families use it...needs to be cleaner. Room was OK. There was only one working elevator (lobby) during our stay. Parking was very limited and hard to find in the evening. Breakfast was good.

    2
« Old, Tired and Dirty »

Run-down property with filthy hallways and elevators. Internet so slow it was non-functional when it did manage to connect and stay connected. Desk staff friendly. Cleaning staff lazy, bored and unwilling to do anything about the filth, food and trash that was laying around. Used bar of soap in elevator and ice cream bar smeared on hallway window and carpeting were both still there 24 hours later.

    3
    « My stay »

Nice place clean. But the parking was every little and bad. The room were clean. But needs a little up dating. Staff were every nice from the front desk to the cleaning staff. They all had a smile and asked how are you.

  • 2
    « Outdated »

The Deluxe Continental Breakfast was simply horrible. Nothing deluxe about it. Parking was a HUGE issue due to the construction next door. They said we can use the paid parking lot next door for which they would reimburse me but you have to drive around two city blocks to get to it. There AC in the room was wide open and the room was still not cool enough. The value was the main issue. For the price of the room I would expect a lot more.

    3
    « Needs improvement »

We have stayed here several times since 2005, but the stay this summer was very different from the others. This hotel needs serious maintenance and repair. The location is perfect if you're going to one of the hospitals within walking distance. They have a shuttle that runs hourly from 7am to 7pm. If your appointments are at 7:00, however, you have to walk, drive, or take a cab. They might try bumping up the shuttles to 6:30 to help guests make it to the early appointments. Parking is a huge problem. There simply isn't enough for guests, and when some spots are taken by construction workers' vehicles or staff, it is difficult or impossible to find a spot. Thankfully, they will pay for your parking costs in the lot next door to the hotel. The front elevator was broken during our visit. The hotel has a back elevator that worked, but the lines to get in were very long at times. The baseboards along the hallway to that elevator need attention. They separated from the walls, have paint missing, and demonstrate the hotel's serious lack of attention to routine maintenance. The breakfast is consistently good and plentiful; we've never been disappointed with it, BUT there is not one coffee lid to be found in the entire hotel. There are no lids at breakfast and none at the mini coffee station near the front entrance. Not only will this increase the chance of messy spills but it also invites lawsuits from guests who spill their hot coffee all over themselves or someone else. Why can't they, like every other hotel, buy lids for their cups? How difficult IS this? On this visit, we had two rooms. One room was fine, but the second room had a bad problem with the air conditioner. When we checked in, we noticed it and lowered the temperature to see if it was simply from not being used. We should have gone down to the front desk immediately to ask for another room, but trusted that the unit would be fine. The following day it was clear that the unit still didn't work well. We called the front desk and shortly afterwards, two employees arrived to repair it. They lowered the temperature further, cleaned out the unit, and sprayed air freshener. We thought it was fixed. When we came back from dinner it was bearable because the air freshener was still masking the odor, but the following morning it was painfully obvious that the unit was NOT repaired, the smell was simply hidden by the air freshener. For a hotel near several hospitals, it should be important to have a clean environment for guests, but the hotel employees never offered to move us to a clean room. IF we ever stay here again, we will insist on seeing the room first at check-in and, if it has any odor or problems, ask for a different room immediately. Everything else in the room worked fine and was clean, but the smell was so bad that when we got back home and opened our suitcases, our clothing reeked like the air conditioner's stench: a cross between cigarettes and that old, broken a/c smell. It was thoroughly disgusting. If you're looking for a hotel near the hospitals, this place is still worth considering because you can't beat the location and breakfast. Just be sure your room is the way you expect it when you check in or you may have problems like we did.

    2
« Great hotel but horrible parking »

I booked this hotel since it was close to Houston Methodist Hospital. Nice hotel, clean rooms, great breakfast buffet. Horrible parking - maybe 30 cars can actually park around hotel and everyone else has to find parking. There is a public parking lot next door, but parking is extremely hard to find during the day. You can only park in the parking lot at night, as everyone has gone home for the day. Both elevators were broken too during my stay, so walking up 6 flights of stairs was not fun. Staff could do the elevator manually but that was really scary going up as it jerked and made noises and going down went extremely slow. I thought I was going to get stuck at first. I would not stay here again unless I knew parking issues were resolved (maybe a parking garage??).

    3
    « Family Vacation »

The staff was fine. The room was okay although there was a smell. The reason i booked this hotel was because it had an indoor pool. The pool was unusable to my family due to excessive chlorine, and the water was too cold to enjoy your swim. Standing in the pool room would actually make your eyes burn.

    3
« Ok for the price? Good location medical area. »

This is not a vacation type of hotel. If you come to the Houston Medical area for medical reasons, this hotel is well located. To have free breakfast is a plus. The hotel is kind of old but the rooms are clean. The hotel is well located right in the center of medical area. The hotel offer a shuttle service to take you to different medical facilities.

    4
« Extremely caring and attentive staff »

We always try to stay at this hotel because of its convenient location, wonderful staff, good breakfast, comfortable rooms, and parking availability. Our frequent visits to Houston are for medical treatment, and we can count on this hotel's environment to be welcoming and like a home-away-from-home.

    2
« Convenient but dirty and poor value for money »

I spent a few nights there as I was on a business trip. Well... Not an experience I will want again. The rooms (at least mine) were proper rundown and dirty. The staff at reception couldn't give a damn to anything. Honestly, I'd rather pay a bit more next time and go to the Marriott next door.

« Best western houston Medical center »

The 1 st stay mix up on room gave us a suite it was great and service was great . 2nd stay smaller room little cramp but ok . parking is tight their. but everytime we able to get wheel chair parking. But it close sherlock towers and methodist Hospital.

« where not to stay when traveling for M.D.Anderson appointments. »

The hotel was old and shabby. Not enough parking places. Vending machines did not work. My husband was in Houston for tests at M. D. Anderson. My son-in-law drove us so we had two rooms. King-size bed room was very small and very much outdated furnishings. Handicapped shower had broken tiles. My son-in-law had to stay in that room because it was so small. My husband and I had a room with two beds but no handicapped facilities. Bathroom was not in good condition. The odor of room freshner was overpowering. I would never stay there again.

    5
    « Best Hotel Staff »

The Hotel Staff are great and accommodating. We stayed at the Best Western Houston Med Center a Lot due to Cancer surgery. The employees helped with anything we needed and were very courteous! Rooms were comfortable and Hotel stay was a great experience, under the circumstances.

  • 3
« Great proximity to medical community »

this hotel is a very pretty hotel, the walking distance to the hospital we needed was only across the street. The staff was very helpful in finding eating establishments nearby as we walked everywhere around the hotel. The room was comfortable as far as the bed and pillows. The odor in the room was the only downside as well as the noise from the construction across the street, however that couldn't be helped.

    4
    « The best western »

We use the best western because it is close to md anderson where my husband goes for treatment. The day time staff is wonderful and are always friendly! Any time I have needed anything the staff has made sure to assist me. I like the fact they have a fitness center in the hotel. I also like the fact that they have breakfast because it is very costly to stay in the hotel and receive treatments at md anderson. So every saving helps! I would recommend the Best Western to my family and friends.

    2
    « I love Best Westerns »

I stay a Best Westerns hotels often. This was was clean and well kept but old. They are building a new one right next door. I can't wait. The check in clerk was very nice, professional and informative about the area. The check out clerk was a different story. She was nice, but very cold and could not care any less that we had a problem with the musty odor with the room.

« Great Value, Clean, Quiet »

My husband was having a heart procedure at St. Luke's, Houston. The hotel was close, clean, quiet, had the most comfortable beds. A great value with a medical discount. Complimentary breakfast was wonderful and delicious. Everyone was helpful and kind, even the guests. Close to medical with a shuttle if needed. I will stay again if needed. A great stay. A great value! It was a medical trip.

« If You Like A Clean Room, Stay Elsewhere! »

Hotel is old. Needs a complete remodel. Staff friendly. Room was damp and musty. Old furnishings, carpet looked dirty and old. Faucet in tub major leak. Chose this hotel for location and lower rate. Near MD Anderson, which we needed. You get what you pay for!

    « Travel Nurse choice »

As a travel nurse, there are certain things I look for in a hotel vs an apartment. Some hotels are cheaper, but the Best Western Plaza Hotel at the Texas Medical Center is much nicer and more convenient than cheaper places. The people greeting me at the front desk, the cooks / servers at full hot breakfast every morning, the housekeeping staff who does such a meticulous job, and especially the friendly and cheerful shuttle bus drivers who pick me up and drop me off door to door between the hotel and where I am assigned at MD Anderson. I have not had to drive at all since I got here a week ago. This hotel is within walking distance of Chipotles and BBQ, and I COULD walk to my job if needed. They also have an air conditioned fitness room with treadmill, stationary bike, etc. an indoor pool and a hot tub. My car is safe and sound in an underground parking garage. Wow! This is worth the extra money!

    5
« Great Location, Staff and Accommodations »

The location is very close to MD Anderson (15 minute walk) and to public transportation (8 minute walk). The staff (Danna and Jessica) are friendly and accommodating and the room was clean, comfortable and quiet with no odors detected. Breakfast was fine with a wide food selection including scrambled eggs and pork as well as turkey sausage; even the coffee was good. The price is great, staff are great, location is great!

    3
    « Surgery trip »

not good. Ya'll need to add surgery in your type of trip section. Also, the bath tub was not clean. The desk needs to be a bit more in tune to the guest's needs. They just take your money and run to the back and hide.

« An Affordable Stay for Medical Needs »

We were impressed with the Staff and facility. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facility was older, but well kept. Breakfast was furnished with a variety of selections, hot and cold. The staff acknowledged and assisted us while we were travelling to and from doctor appointments.

    « Medical Stay Annually! »

I have very much enjoyed the convince of my stay here with its closeness to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. I have used the shuttle service, and it is timely & convent! This is an annual trip for the last 6 years for my Cancer follow up, and I have stayed elsewhere, but have been a repeat visitor at the Best Western by choice. It has also influenced our choice of Hotels for other Business & Pleasure Stays!

« Short Stay for Medical Reasons »

I have been staying at Best Western starting in December for MD Anderson.. I do appreciate they give you a little discount for medial reasons, have a van take you to and from the hospitals so once you get there you do not have to drive and the free breakfast. My only concern is the parking at the hotel. They are building a hotel right next to this one and now there is a shortage of parking spaces. People were having to pay 8.00 dollars a day for parking next to the hotel. With medical costs every penny counts.

    2
« Not for the business traveler. »

The front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. However, I would not recommend this hotel for the business traveler. The work space is cramped and the office chair in my room was stained and would not hold the position. The hotel needs updating overall. The lobby was run down and the elevator was shabby. Next time, I'll look for something closer to the NRG Center :-(

    3
    « Needs Updating »

Located next to all of the medical buildings, so good location for travelers looking for a stay nearby. Offers a good breakfast (bagels, toast, eggs, sausage/bacon, hash browns, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc.) Pool and spa area is indoors and is on the smaller side for a hotel of this size. The breakfast room is large and has a nice tv so you can catch up on news before starting your day. Staff was very friendly. Rooms need updating, especially the bathroom/shower. Rooms were cleans and were cleaned up nicely. Parking is tight as there is street level parking and underground parking below the hotel. Had a good stay for the price. Wish the wifi was more consistent. Free parking, free wifi, nice microwave and fridge combo. Vending machines and free coffee/water in the lobby.

    2
    « needs updated »

Room had odors, was musty. Hallway needed cleaning. Staff was helpful....but they do not have much to work with. Parking was easy and underground.great location but the competition has this property beat hands down.

Excellent rooms and service. The staff was very professional and courteous. I would highly recommend. It was conveniently located next MD Anderson where our daughter has been schedule for cancer surgery.

    « Nice hotel »

Stay for one night and everything was as expected. Room was nice and clean friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good, warm and yummy. For a 6 floor hotel they should have a bigger pool. Location is very convenient next to the medical center. Make sure you buy anything you might need early we got there @ 11pm and stores in the area where closed.

    « BW hotel review »

The location was perfect for my situation. The room was nice but the overall hotel needs updating. The actual room was very nice. The rear entrance and elevator needed some updating. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was an excellent value with much variety.

    3
    « Decent Hotel »

Older Hotel in the heart of Houston medical center which is where we needed to be. It's clean but needs updating. Discount offered for medical center patients is nice. Shuttle service to Medical center is convenient but chaotic. Breakfast Service is convenient and adequate.

« Not downtown, but easy to get there »

We were looking for a reasonably-priced hotel in Houston with secure, free parking. This fit the bill perfectly. The room was fine. Breakfast was good. It was very easy to jump on the light rail about two blocks away for $1.25, and head downtown. Main concern was that the hotel seemed to be understaffed, which made getting help slow. The printer and one of the PC's in the Business center weren't working, so it took a lot of time to get boarding passes printed.

    5
    « I really like this hotel »

I have stayed at this hotel for 13 years I have to go to MD Anderson every few months and I stay here. I feel safe if I have to go by myself. It's not far from the Zoo and arts also. I also get a medical rate that helps with my bill staying there .

    « Such Compassionate Staff! »

My mother has been a patient at MD Anderson for the past 8 months; due to Stage 4 Lymphoma. The caring staff at this hotel sincerely makes it stand out among other options in the Medical Center. Shametria made my latest reservation, and the truly caring way she took down all of her requirements for our stay due to my Mother's health was a true example of unbelievably amazing customer service. Thank you so very much! Management; take note- you have a truly skilled individual at your Front Desk.

    « Medical Center stay »

Good hotel for the price, Great breakfast for the price, Awesome shuttle that has a driver that sincerely cares. People there care! Book on line, cheaper. Check it out. This hotel is close enough to walk to the medical centers, if the shuttle is not running. Food is within a couple blocks. Have stayed several times and will stay every time we have to go as long as they have space.

    « Andy's Review »

great service and amenities were great. loved the staff and the breakfast. i'm glad i stayed there due to my illness and the proximity of the medical hospital. shuttle service around area was excellent. Great experience for the money spent

    « Good location/Poor Customer Service »

Hotel was close to where I wanted to be and provided an adequate room and amenities. I called (over a week before checking it) to add an additional day to my reservation. I asked if it would affect my rate. I was told it would not. Guess what? That change affected my rate for all nights. Once I noticed (15 minutes later when I printed my new confirmation), I called back and asked to change back to my original rate and was told that that was impossible. Needless to say, the situation was handled very unprofessionally.

« short stay for medical procedure »

stayed over night for medical follow-up at MD Andersons. Hotel is convenient to medical center and has nice accomodations for the price, Staff was friendly and courteous. Shuttle service to MD Anderson was a plus. I would recommend this hotel to a friend.

« Exactly right for us. »

We were coming to Houston for a medical reason for our son. All of the hotels around the medical complex are crazy expensive. This hotel had a reasonable medical rate. The staff has been friendly. Our room with a double queen sized bed. The room is spacious and the beds comfortable. The view in our room is nice. The breakfast room is nice and big, which we liked.

    4
    « MD Anderson stay »

Breakfast was excellent. Room was fine. Close to MD Anderson which was the purpose. Parking is tight; sometimes tricky to repark.. Most of the time we walked. Clean, comfortable rooms. Internet sometimes slow...

    3
« Convenient to Medical Center »

The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The air conditioner did not cool as well as we would have liked. Nice continental breakfast. Free parking. The hotel meet our needs for 1 night so that we could attend my niece's graduation from U of H.

    4
    « Ok hotel »

It is in the medical district in Houston. Breakfast is adequate and people are friendly. The room was clean and beds were comfortable and they also have a shuttle to medical centers. The shuttle runs 7:00 AM to 7:00PM. It is right off of Main Street in the medical district. No restaurants in the area except for a Burger King.

    « Recent stay »

We were looking for a hotel in a specific location. The Best Western was right in the middle of where we needed to be. When comparing the cost with the amenities offered it was by far the best deal. Other hotels within a couple block distance were either more expensive or didn't offer the same amenities for the same price. This hotel provides a complementary breakfast (not great, but fresh coffee and a yogurt on the run are a plus) and wifi. The parking is also free which can cost $12+ at other hotels. Overall, it is a good deal for the cost.

« Good location to Medical Center, but don't expect Sleep or Shuttle to Hospitals »

One of the clerks called my husband at my home phone number at 11:30 p.m. He was very rude because he thought I had not checked-in. He even asked my husband for my room number. I understand that mistakes happed, but (i) why so confrontational, (ii) WHY did we have to do this at 11:30 p.m., and (iii) the fact that he was asking my husband what my room number was is just laughable (if I had any sleep). Then, he call the hotel room and awakened us ALL and we had early doctor appointments for a family member the next morning. We got very little sleep after that. The reason I booked this hotel was because they have shuttle service to the hospitals. The shuttle was (i) late, (ii) full, and (iii) not really accessable to those folks who might have mobility issues. It was completely unusable to us. As if that were not enough, I called to cancel a room that was being held for us in case we might need to stay an additional night. The clerk started telling me about a 24-hour cancellation notice charge after I was told I wouldn't be charged if I called.

« Nick was very understanding and helpful »

My mom suffered a stroke and was transported to St. Lukes Hospital in the area. I booked a room at the Best Western and my Dad and I checked into the room. The hotel and room were nice and very clean. We walked over to the hospital and spent most of the day there. The hospital decided to transfer her to another hospital in Livingston and my Dad wanted to be with her. Nick was nice enough to reimburse me for the room. Thanks again Nick!

« Good Location BUT Do Not Count on Sleep or Shuttle Service »

If you are looking for a hotel close to the Houston Medical Center, this is a good location. However, a VERY rude clerk called my home, as well as the hotel room at 11:30 p.m. awakening my whole family becuse he thought I had not checked-in to the hotel. Needless to say, we did not get much sleep. The next morning the shuttle was full and had very few seats available for the elderly or anyone with mobility issues.

    3
« Great driver shuttle service around Medical Center--- »

The only two perks from this hotel was the shuttle service around the medical center and the great breakfast selections. The front staff in the evening barely spoke to you upon returning to their hotel. They were probably mad because three days in a row I had to make multiple calls for a shuttle as it never came to pick me up and I waited 1 1/2 hours before calling! The morning staff were pleasant. Two nights in a row my room key didn't work properly and I had to return to front twice for new keys. The carpets can be vacuumed better for sure! The two weeks I stayed there I looked at some other guests soda spill down a wall, that housekeeping never touched. The room and furniture are old and don't be shock when you see the lobby. One half is decent the other half has ancient old upholster furniture and ragged curtains. This is the medical center and prices are not cheap---lets spruce up the place people!

    « Good visit »

we were here for business purpose because OTC 2016 expo. Location was good, just 5 minutes by train to expo area. Minus for breakfast. Bed was perfect. Elevator was broken for 1 day. Rooms was clean. Self service laundry available and pool as well. Very friendly personal.

    « Nice hotel »

Hotel staff was courteous, lobby was clean. Nice hot tub, swimming pool and work out room. Rooms were clean and quiet. The suite had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and sink. Large living room was separated by doors going into the large bedroom.

    « Confortable stay »

This hotel worked out very well for us on our first trip to Houston. Very decent sized room with comfortable beds. The free onsite parking was very helpful. The location is very convenient for Rice University - just 5 mins walk away.

    « Great value »

The hotel was neat and clean. The location was superb, being across from the medical centre. There was a small indoor pool and gym. Parking was free with ample space. The staff was friendly and helpful. I needed to check out at 4am to be at the airport by 6am which was not an issue at all. I would highly recommend this hotel for a value stay.

« Good product at fair price »

A good clean hotel at a fair price. I will use Best Western more often. I needed a hotel near the hospital that I was to have surgery in and this hotel was perfect. The hotel was just a short cab ride to the hospital.

    5
« best western at UT medical center »

We were in Houston for some complicated surgery and found the hotel to be convenient, clean and everyone very helpful. The UT med center area is monstrously big and the hotel location made it much easier to navigate it The hotel shuttle driver in the morning was superb-very efficient

    1
    « What a shame! »

This hotel has a great location! You can walk to Rice University and the medical centers. The staff is pleasant and our guest room is clean. Why have they allowed the lobby to become shabby and dingy ? The food is terrible (eggs and bagels inedible) and the halls have an unpleasant odor. An abandoned wheelchair has been blocking an exit for days. Will I ever trust another BEST WESTERN HOTEL?

    5
    « Friendly Staff »

I am a traveling RN, which means that some of my nights are spent away from home. It is so nice to know that I can depend on a hotel to help me feel at home and pay attention to my comfort. I often stay at the Best Western Medical Center in Houston, Texas. I am pleased with how friendly the staff are and they seem to go the extra mile to make you feel very welcome and comfortable.

    3
« good pricing, older property »

This hotel is in the medical district. Convenient for the hospital and close to mass transit. The property is showing its age. Hot water in shower was poor after 9:00 am. Germ free tv remotes are of low quality and you have to be within about 3 ft. of tv to work. They had to try 3 different remotes before they could get one to work. Breakfast was average motel food.

    5
« Nice place to stay »

Clean, comfortable, convenient - near the metro rail. Room are spacious and clean showing attention to detail. Everything worked. Staff is friendly and attentive to the needs of the occupant. This hotel is right across the street from the medical centers in Houston - easily walkable.

    3
« Adequate hotel for the price! »

Was in Houston for the Final Four and chose this hotel because it was close to the stadium and the transit stop. It is in the vicinity of a multitude of hospitals but there weren't very many options for dining unless you drove or took the metro system.

    3
« Good place to stay »

I stay here when I go to MD Anderson for my dr's appts. I know what to expect here and the medical rate is really good. The hallway on the 2nd floor smelled like moldy-gym but the room was fine. The breakfast is ok. I usually go somewhere else to eat breakfast because I do not care for what they offer. But if you eat it, it is standard hotel food. If you stay here for MD Anderson, they have a shuttle that runs every hour. I usually just walk..takes about 10-15min, depending on what clinic I am walking to. Unless I find a better deal for my stay, I will always choose this hotel.

    5
    « Clean & Comfortable »

Very nice hotel in a very convenient location for the Medical Center. Comfortable and amazingly quiet! We were next to the elevator and the ice machine and heard nothing! That is saying a lot when you have hospitals all around you! Internet was slow or non-existent, informed hotel that we were having issues. Breakfast was hot, and yummy with a lot of selections. Construction in the area, but hotel access was not compromised and parking was free, which is a find in that area - a big plus.

    5
« Convenient location, friendly staff »

The hotel is quite convenient both to the medical complex and to the museum district. Especially friendly staff, easy access and parking, full breakfast, reliable internet. Nothing fancy but clean, safe, and convenient for travel and business

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Free breakfast was lacking in taste. Hotel needs updated but price was reasonable. With in walking distance to MD Anderson. Will stay again hopefully the breakfast will improve

    2
« Horrible Service, Horrible Breakfast »

We were ignored at check in while clerk chatted on her phone. Hot tub is not working. Breakfast items included brown bananas, stale sweet rolls and bagels, watery juice from a machine that needed service. Elevator very slow and making noise. Staff is unconcerned and not helpful.

    5
    « Great Location! »

I visited Houston for a conference in the Medical Center. The location of the Best Western was perfect and only a 5 minute walk (a shuttle was also available). The metro rail was also a 5 minute walk which was perfect for checking out Midtown and other areas of the city. Great experience. Clean and comfy! Nicholas, the gust service agent, and Jacob, the shuttle driver, were beyond helpful during my stay.

    2
« If you have a vehicle, don't stay at this hotel »

After arriving to our hotel, we could not find a place to park. We went in to check in and asked where we could park and was told that it is a first come first serve basis on parking and that there is no guarantee of a parking space. He suggested us going to the nearby parking lot where we could pay for parking then walk to our hotel. This was at night, in Houston with 2 women and 2 children!!! Very unsatisfied!

    5
    « Medical Stay »

I must commend Nick whom on this day found a room for my family to stay in so that we would not have to face a hectic morning commute for scheduled medical testing for my dear son who has Down syndrome and autism at Texas Children's Hospital. He readily found the best room possible and offered the medical discount without my even asking. Mind you, this is during the rodeo! I feel my family will be in good hands and it will make this medical trip so much easier to bear. Thank you Nick and I look forward to a pleasant stay.

    3
« Parking is an Issue! »

The hotel was fairly clean. The breakfast room was usually busy but it would have been nice if the attendant could have wiped down the tables every once in awhile. Most were sticky or had crumbs on them. Room was good except the 3 times the housekeeper failed to clean our coffee pot and leave coffee and cups.

The hotel was nice, and most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. I did ask the day staff to deliver a roll away bed for us while we were out and they didn't do it so I had to call and get it delivered when we got back late that night.

The room was dirty, with a powder footprint on the carpet, the linens were rumpled, and there was dust on all of the furniture. The food was of poor quality and served cold (breakfast), and your were unable to take your breakfast back to your room to enjoy in a peaceful manner.

We stay here frequently for my husband's medical trips at MD Anderson. the rooms are functional, clean, quiet, and they have a fairly good selection for their complimentary breakfast. The staff is helpful and efficient. Nicholas at the front desk even loaned me his phone charger overnight on our last stay. The fresh flower arrangement adds a nice touch to this budget priced hotel.

« Good location for medical services »

This is a typical Best Western that is located in the heart of the Houston mega medical complex. Most all medical facilities are within easy 15 min walking distance. I would guess that most, if not all the guests are staying there for easy access to medical treatment. There are many high end hotels in the area and this is the most affordable. A downside of this facility is breakfast only. I arrived in early evening, tired and hungry. I did not want to drive anymore, so I walked two blocks to a Burger King for an adequate, marginally tasty dinner. I was there for one night which was fine. If finances are not an issue and you have to stay close to the hospitals for extended treatment, I would consider one on the higher end hotels with an on site restaurant.

    5
« Best Western Stay at BBQ Cook-Off »

Highly recommend this hotel because of great staff, cleanliness and great breakfast! Have stayed here for the past several years at BBQ Cook-Off. Have a shuttle in close proximity to take you to NRG Complex. Great convenience and within 2-3 miles of the BBQ Cook-Off. Will definitely stay again next year.

    2
    « Awful Experience »

First day toilet would not flush. Second day air conditioner sounded like a freight train, we could hear it from the opposite end of the Hotel with the door closed.Staff did not respond to first phone calls for either issue and acted like we had not reported when we went to the front desk.Staff claimed we would get a 20% discount for our inconvienence that was not honored.

    3
    « It's OK for business »

This hotel is conveniently located in the Medical Center/Rice University area, walking distance (less than 15 minutes to MD Anderson. It has a nice self serve Continental Breakfast, but lacks restaurant/cafeteria facilities for lunch or dinner. Shuttle is provided to and from the hospital, but not to restaurants or shopping like many other hotels in the area.

« Nice Budget Friendly Best Western Hotel »

Stayed here this last Xmas holiday to visit family, check-in was easy, clean rooms, the guy that is a security guard fills in as a front desk person he was really friendly and helpful. Nice hotel for a budget shopper and a quick stay. I will be back if I'm in Houston again.

    3
    « Few nearby restaurants »

Hotel itself was just OK: a little rundown and bed in our room was saggy. It is geared toward people going to nearby hospitals. There are very few nearby restaurants - the whole area is hospitals and medical facilities. I would recommend staying elsewhere in Houston if you are vacationing.

« Nice, inexpensive place to stay when you have a trip to MD Anderson »

This hotel was not the most beautiful place to stay for vacation, but for a place to sleep and relax when going back and forth from MD Anderson, this is a fine place. All the staff at the front desk and the breakfast room were kind and helpful. The regular room was just fine, very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. I didn't use the hourly shuttle, but if you are a walker, it was a nice, easy walk to MD Anderson. I was very thankful to have a comfortable, clean place to stay while with my son at MD Anderson for such a great price in the middle of a big city.

    « Medical Trip »

We were there elderly parents for a medical procedure. Very nice and clean. Slept well. The staff was extremely helpful. The shuttle was an awesome advantage!! We used it several times. We stayed in a "Suite" and it meet our needs perfectly.

    4
    « Great location »

This hotel is a good value for the cost and has all the amenities I needed. Plus most important of all it was located within walking distance of the medical buildings which was very important for this trip.

    2
« Near MD Anderson - but avoid if at all possible »

Stayed here with my mom because it was close to Mays Clinic at MDAnderson. The room was supposed to be ADA and had narrow doorways, no pull bars near the toilet and little room for her walker. The entrance to the hotel is barely accessible as you approach from Main St. The front door pull through is single file where the hotel shuttles are parked leading to challenges trying to access the front door to check in or load luggage or a person with special needs. The staff was nice, but overwhelmed with one person at desk and a line of guests waiting. Won't recommend or stay again.

    2
    « Medical treatment »

Booked this hotel for my appt at md anderson as a new patient. Booked the room for 3 days, but advised desk clerk I may to have to add a couple of days to my stay. Desk clerk said no problem, we will be able to accomodate you, just let us know. On the second day of my stay I asked to extend my stay and they had already booked my room. I am a cancer patient seeking treatment and basically being evicted. I am not from houston, don't know the city, did not have a rental car...Panic mode!!! Started calling nearby hotels and finally found another room at the wyndham. Here I am moving from one hotel to another. These people don't care, the hotel is dated and only has the basics....

    4
    « Great stay »

Staff was very helpful getting our gear loaded on cart. Breakfast had good selections. The Hotel is very close to the hospital we were taking our grandson to. The hotel is older but well taken care of and tucked back from the main street. Parking is a little tight around and under the hotel.

    5
« Excellent hotel to stay »

Excellent ratio quality vs. price. The Best western Plaza Hotel at Medical Center in Houston, Texas, is perfectly located for access to all the medical facilities, with a shuttle driving patients where needed, and an easy access to downtown with the trolley when visitors do not want to face the daunting Houston traffic.

    3
« Great for what it is used for. »

Very well worn hotel. CLEAN, neat, but in major need of updating. Grubby, squeaky elevators that leave you in panic thinking the door will never open. But I was there for medical reasons, not for luxury.

    4
« Super close to hospital »

Second tie I stayed with parent while going to M D Anderson-it's a great place to stay-just wish the area was a bit more friendly at night. It is always clean & staff friendly, helpful! We have always had a positive experience here.

    4
    « comfortable and convenient »

We stayed 2 nights prior to embarking on a cruise from Houston. We chose the Best Western Medical Centre as it was close to the Museum District and Downtown. The hotel was clean, comfortable and easy access to bus or train to Hermann Park and the Museum of Fine Arts. The bed was comfortable, staff efficient and helpful. Breakfast was a good selection, plenty and hot. A good stay.

    4
« Close to MD Anderson »

Very functional. If your vehicle has decent road clearance, park in the garage below the building (the entrance/exit is very steep, but the parking places are nicely sized and spaced). Be aware that the elevator is VERY S L O W. Rooms have all you need, but the heat/air-conditioning is not turned on until you turn it on, so if you have the chance to check-in early and turn it on, then leave for dinner or your appointment, you'll be OK.

I had testing at MD Anderson last week. We stayed here because it was close and I am so glad that we did. These people are awesome. Most of the people that stay here are going to one of the nearby hospitals. The staff goes above and beyond to help in any way that they can. They have a really good breakfast, the beds are great, the hotel is clean and well maintained, and the shuttles take you where you need to go and pick you up when you are finished. I can't say enough good things about the experience we had.

« Close to the medical center »

The best place to stay if your looking to stay at the medical center for early operations or dr. visits. right across the street from the TEXAS CHILDRENS HOSPITAL. We have stayed at this Best Western a few times and have had NO problems with the service or staff. Everyone is just as helpful and can be.

« Great place to stay when going to MD Anderson Cancer Center »

This hotel was very conveniently located to the MD Anderson Cancer Center and the room rates were very reasonable for the quality. The hotel was older but well-maintained and the room was very clean and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was a plus.

The hotel was very clean. The lobby and outside areas are well maintained. The rooms are nice but a little dated but as I stated the hotel was clean and the staff very welcoming. Very close to the hospital district.

« THIS IS IT!! NO MORE BEST WESTERN STAYS FOR ME. »

I was very disappointed we couldn't get a room at the Rotary House. For the $20 difference in price, we were forced to stay at the Best Western as it was the only hotel close to M D Anderson in our price range. We didn't want to spend $250 a night. There was a shortage of handicap parking, so I parked in a no-parking zone because the only empty spaces had several inches of water in them due to recent heavy rain. Luggage carts weren't where they told us they would be. The room was as expected. What I didn't expect was hair clinging to the shower curtain, hair on "clean" linens. Dirty curtains, specks of fecal matter in the toilet when we first arrived in the room. The window glass was so fogged you couldn't see the construction next door until it kept you from taking an afternoon nap. Even the hourly shuttle to the medical district we signed up for the day before was overbooked and we barely made our appointment at MD Anderson. If you are here for MD Anderson, get on the waiting list for Rotary House. We're still hoping they will call us and tell us there is a vacancy for the remainder of our stay. This is my last stay at a Best Western, as we have been disappointed in the past but apparently didn't learn our lesson then.

    « Big Game Trip »

Check in was quick and easy. Room was clean, beds were comfortable enough. Bathroom was a bit dated. Loved the unique shower head. Parking was a problem. If you came in late the lot was full and had to use the paid lot next door. The manger did, however, reimburse us for the parking.

    « Great Location »

Almost all guests at this property are there because either they or a relative is a patient at one of the many hospitals at the complex that is the Medical Center. The property gets a lot of use and is a little worn, That said, my room was spotless. The location couldn't be better. Perhaps most importantly the personnell is friendly and helpful. By way of example, Ali, on of the shuttle drivers, even at 7:00 AM greets his medically concerned passengers with humor, kindness, and helpfulness.

« Comfortable beds - outdated rooms and hallways »

Breakfast was plentiful and well presented. Huge breakfast room. Beautiful and spacious lobby. I stayed 4 nights and it was very quiet all nights - even the night of LSU and Texas game with football players there. Guest rooms are outdated. Hallways are very over due for new carpet, tile and paint.

« Good place to stay when in Houston for medical appts. »

We've stayed here several times this year as I have traveled back and forth to the MD Anderson Mays Clinic. Close enough to walk to clinic, restaurants and pharmacy. Breakfast is always good and staff is helpful.

    3
« Cheaper than the MD Anderson hotel and a walk away »

The best thing about the Best Western hotel is it is a 10 minute walk away from MD Anderson, Mays clinic and it is cheaper than staying at the MD Anderson hotel. There is a Chipotle and a Starbucks very near by so that sorted out dinner. The service at the Best Western was excellent. Our room had a slightly weird damp smell. The bathroom was annoying in that it had no hooks for your clothes. The room was a good size, the bed was comfortable and he people were nice. There was a fridge and a microwave. Breakfast is included but not particularly healthy. Also there was free parking. We would stay here again to save the money but if you have no requirement to save money then the convenience of the on site hotel is fabulous.

    « very clean hotel »

Brother and I stayed here for 1st time. Hotel is a bit older but hotel and rooms very clean. Parking is tight, but it is everywhere and it's free so a big bonus there. Good breakfast in the morning - the basics. Definitely will stay here when i need a place in med center. and free wifi.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable and spacious room. Spacious bathroom which is a plus in my book. Convenient to NRG Stadium as well as the Medical Center. The parking was also very accessible for the area. Well lit parking.

    « Good Stay! »

Clean rooms, good breakfast, extremely convenient for us when visiting our grandson in the NICU at Texas Children's Hospital. It has a coin operated washer/dryer which was helpful during our extended stay.

    4
« Perfect for those set in their ways »

I travel with my grandchildren's events and usually are traveling throughout the year. I prefer, when possible, to stay where I have already stayed. It is nice to call the hotel and they know you as well as you know the staff. It makes the stay away from home a little more relaxing.

    « Never Again »

I just want to say that I'm a mystery shopper and if I had been shopping this location, it would have been an opportunity for them to make some serious changes. I neglected to take pictures because we were in town for a funeral. I was emotionally exhausted and the condition of the room just made it worse. I did not report the issues in the second room because we were just tired and didn't want to have to move again. We just agreed that this is not a hotel up to our standard and will not stay there again. The room was $130 a night and in both rooms there were shower heads coming off of the wall, clogged drains in the first room, dirty bedroom doors and odors lurking in both bedrooms, dirty-looking counter tops in the bathroom of the second room, staff that don't take their jobs seriously, and amenities that don't work. I would have expected this from a Motel 6 or a Red Roof Inn, not a Best Western. I have stayed at Best Western in many states. I have never stayed in one that I didn't like until now. Please be aware that the pool is not heated and therefore may have the same conditions as if it were an outdoor pool.

    « Good location »

Checked in for 2 nights for spouse surgery. Website showed shuttle to area medical facilities. Like with most surgeries, they require you to be there very early. Their shuttle doesn't start until 7 so useless. They offer complimentary breakfast but doesn't start till 6:30 also useless. You'd think being in the Medical Center they'd make adjustments to be more accommodating. The location is great. The room was clean and bed was comfy.

« "Friendly and helpful staff" »

On my visit to the state in October I stayed at this location for a training workshop. On my arrival i accidentally slipped and fell on the drive way while exiting the property to go to the mall. After being assisted back into the building, a very helpful, courteous and friendly staff member John from the front desk assisted me by dressing the cut i got from the fall. I was pleasantly surprised by his gentle, caring and willingness to do this for me. I am truly grateful for his assistance and will never forget the sympathy, kindness, concern, compassion he showed and the regret he expressed for the incident. Thank you John greatly appreciated. Thank you also for being such a loyal and hard working employee of this Best Western Hotel.

Very clean. The bed is very comfortable. I wish the bathroom was bigger. But overall it is nice. very good for the location. will be back. My husband is a MD Anderson patient so it is a good hotel at a great price. Just a 5 min. drive to MD. They also have free shuttle.

« Nice, Very convenient But book carefully »

Very nice motel located within blocks of hospital complex at a fairly good rate. Room was well lit with modern fixtures. Desk/chair, led 32" tv, table/chairs, mw/ref, double queens and a large window. Bathroom a tad small with limited counter space but ok. Had indoor pool/spa, fairly nice exercise room and a breakfast area that was very clean. breakfast had a pretty good assortment incl eggs (might have been pre-fab not sure), excellent turkey sausage (cisco brand) yogurt 2 types, breads/cereals, fruit and everything was monitored and fresh. parking was adequate and fenced/controlled. For those going to MD Anderson and other hospitals in the area, shuttle service is offered, or close enough to some to walk. Only two concerns...the hot water wasn't "hot". it was warm at best. Called desk, said something would be done, after 45 minutes gave up took an exhilarating somewhat warm shower. Also, very important....for those whose plans change. Be alerted to the fact that this motel has a 3 day advance cancellation or no refund. My contract said call by dec 5 for a stay scheduled for dec 8th. I understand this is a bw motel by motel req't so time varies.

    « Location, location, location »

AS a client heading to Mays Clinic, nothing can be closer than this hotel. The staff is wonderful, the rooms and breakfasts are adequate, but the shuttle and distance to appointments could NOT be better. This is my FIRST choice whenever I am in town for medical reasons.

    « faulty elevator »

the major contusion on my arm caused by the elevator door sent me to the hospital. your elevators need to be repaired before a law suit occurs. will send you the photograph, but cannot photo- graph the pain and suffering. the room was freezing cold when we entered. we asked a maid in the hall for blankets and after a long while they were finally delivered.

« Best Western Medical Center Houston Amenities »

Terrible Wi-Fi! Outdated TV (blurry picture). Horrible parking w/small, "tight" spaces making it difficult to park and to exit, not to mention to get into and out of the vehicle once parked. Otherwise, a good value for the money.

    « Decor - atmosphere is from 1960's »

Room decor VERY depressing -- may as well be in a 1960's motel. This hotel is not in line with the other hotels in the same area that serve the Houston Medical Center. Clean, but otherwise depressing.

    « Short stay »

We were in Houston to attend the annual Nutcracker Market shopping event, which is held every November. The hotel was close to the Reliant Center and the price was right. We normally stay at the Crowne Plaza (and have for over 10 years), but when I attempted to book our reservation there in August - I always book early, the price had jumped from $99 last year to $219! Interestingly, the price went down in the weeks before the event, but given that the Crowne Plaza wouldn't give me a decent rate in August, I blew them off and opted to stick with the Best Western. The price at Best Western was great and overall, a good value. The staff at check-in and check-out were quick and friendly. The rooms were very clean and the beds were super comfortable, as were the pillows. Although the bathroom was clean, the tubs are very old and have suffered a lot of damage, making them appear dirty - so much so that my aunt refused to take a bath, settling for a shower. The carpeting in the hallways could stand to be replaced. I love that there is an ice machine on each floor - not so in all hotels these days. The breakfast was REALLY good (and free) - waffles, pancakes, biscuits, sausage (pork and turkey), bagels, toast, cereals, coffee, juices, hash browns, etc. Overall, for the price, I would highly recommend this hotel.

    3
« Close to Med Ctr »

The staff at this hotel are very nice and lobby is nice, but rooms are a little outdated and there is no fire sprinkler system. I feel that is very dangerous. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable and it was quiet and very close to the medical center. Very convenient.

    « Breakfast and convenience »

General: Great location for visiting the Houston Medical Center. I believe there is a shuttle to the various hospitals in the Houston Medical Center. Breakfast: AWESOME! A huge offering for continental breakfast each morning included waffle-maker, cereal options, juice options, milk options, coffee/tea options, baked goods options including bread and bagels, sausage and egg options, and fruit and yogurt options. AWESOME!! Room: Smells like a motel but this is Houston and its hot and humid!! The AC works well. Bed and pillows are reasonably comfortable. Outlets available for charging electronics. Closet all the way in the back of the room (toward window) is awkward placement but I made due. I didn't use the television. Bathroom: The bathroom has good shelf space and the shower and toilet are just fine. Facilities: The hot tub is great temperature (hot). I didn't use the pool or the fitness ROOM (a couple cardio machines and a couple weight machines) since there is an LA Fitness just a few blocks away.

    « Acceptable »

This motel's major advantage is proximity to the Medical Center, Rice University campus, and light rail that serves downtown Houston and the museum district. The price that we paid was a reasonable value, but not a genuine bargain. The plus column: in addition to location, staff were mostly friendly and the property is kept clean and neat. Each room has a small fridge and a microwave. I was able to get the window open to get some fresh air (though there is a lot of traffic noise and light coming from outside). The negative column: The free breakfast is worth what one pays for it. The food is mediocre at best (no one can screw up a toasted bagel with cream cheese or a bowl of cereal with some milk). The eggs were inedible and the sausages and waffles looked really gross. Breakfast is served in a room that makes school cafeterias look charming--freezing cold air conditioning, harsh flourescent lighting, and a television that is blaring an inane morning news show. When I asked a server for cream cheese, I was brusquely informed that it is kept in the refrigerator. Well, ex-CUUU-se me!. Internet connectivity would not work for either person in our party. While both of our laptops could connect to the WiFi, there was no internet, We made repeated attempts, followed instructions to the letter, rebooted computers, etc, all to no avail. We suspect that the connection lacks sufficient bandwidth to deliver a viable signal. People at the front desk were pleasant but clueless. Climate control is marginal. I couldn't find a thermostat. Each room has a wall unit built in below the window. The "fan" setting did not seem to bring in any fresh air from the outside. The user can choose between "fan," "heat," and "cool," and between "high" and "low" fan settingspeeds. There's a variable knob that ranges from hot to cold, but finding a comfortable temp is a matter of guess work and the fan, even on low setting, is extremely noisy. The AC unit was blasting away when we walked into the room, making it as cold as a refrigerator. We finally gave up, opened the window (it was November, so a reasonable temp outside), and soldiered on. In any event, bring good earplugs. You'll need them, whether to blot out traffic noise or the climate control system.

« Great price in the medical area »

We just needed one night because my husband needed to be at Methodist by 6:15am. We couldn't use the shuttle because it was available at 7am. Didn't get to use the breakfast area because it opened at 6:30. I love being able to park myself and not have to valet my car. Felt secure in the area too. The elevator seemed a little small, the hallway seemed forever to get to the room... The bathroom hardly had any counter space. The pros: parking, comfortable bed, clean room, great price.

    4
« Close to Major Medical Facilities »

My husband had an early morning doctor's appointment at one of the many hospitals located in the area of this hotel. We did not have reservations, but were able to get a room for the night before his appointment. It was a very clean room, shower has a great shower head but the bathroom is quite small compared to other hotels. This hotel provides FREE shuttle service to any of the hospitals starting at 7am and every hour, he will drop you off then you call and he will pick you up, this is a great service. A breakfast is served daily with a varied menu. It was good. I recommend this hotel.

« Best Western Plaza Hotel and Suites »

This Best Western is one of our top two motels to stay at the Medical Center in Houston. The value for our dollar, the helpful and caring staff, the free parking which includes covered parking, the shuttle driver to the medical center, the free breakfast. This motel is within walking distance of the Medical Centers plus it has a free shuttle. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and spacious. These are positives that we value when making our decision where to stay.

« good location, clean rooms... »

stayed with family, including two children, in two rooms... while housekeeping was on top of things and staff was pleasant enough, the hotel was lacking on so many fronts that we would have probably been better off somewhere else. the area is perfect if in town to visit md anderson but parking is limited and parking places so narrow, expect dings and scuffs on your car. location is excellent, easy to find and easy to get in and out of area by car. the indoor pool was way to cold to get in but wouldve added to the value of our stay and would have made up for a lot... hot breakfast isnt something they should advertise as a plus but is edible...somewhat. powdered eggs and your choice of turkey or regular mini sausage patties both equally unappetizing. canned sausage gravy and dry biscuits if your adventurous. the apple juice was watered down to the point that it doesnt qualify as apple juice and the orange juice tasted like it was fermenting....bad. they should be ashamed of serving that up to who were obviously cancer patients in town for medical appointments. i felt bad for them. but cereals, muffins, fruit and yogurt were also put out. we stayed on 4th floor, didnt have issues with our room or wifi and hotel was for the most part quiet.

« Great location for Medical Center or Rice U. »

Nice staff. Clean hotel and room. Very convenient and good value for us. Our room on the 4th floor was a bit tired. Could definitely use an update - but then price would likely go up. Main downside was the strong smell of what we assumed was deodorizer. Since the windows don't open, it's likely that's to counteract a musty smell. As far as included hotel breakfasts go, we thought the quality was above average. If you are visiting the medical center or Rice University the location is excellent and a decent price. Although just across the street from the Medical Center, the campus is huge, so the hotel's free shuttle could be a plus. We strolled through the beautiful Rice U. campus and ate at one of several fun restaurants in Rice Village, about a mile away..

This hotel was close to the hospital & offers shuttle service and breakfast & internet. The breakfast was best when eaten when it was first put out, otherwise the biscuits got hard at the bottom & hash brown soft. Overall a large variety to pick from.

    « Very Friendly Staff »

All the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, particularly John and Yousuf . This hotel is close to several of the hospitals and there is some food within walking distance. There is both underground and surface parking that is free. The breakfast seating area is larger than most, which I really liked. The breakfast is typical for this type of hotel with a few hot items each morning. My room was very clean and definitely adequate, but the hallways reveal that it is an older property. They have free, cold lemon water in the lobby that was much appreciated after our visit to Hermann Park. The hotel was full when we were there, but it was still very quiet. This was my second visit to this hotel and I would stay there again for the rate I paid.

    2
    « Stay somewhere else »

It looks okay on the outside. The carpet needs to be cleaned on the inside. Overall the hotel needs an upgrade. The TV channels buffered and the Wifi didn't work. You had to plug your computer into ethernet cord. No lotion is provided in the bathroom. The elevator is slow and noisy. I have stayed in much nicer hotels. Choose a nicer one in Houston.

    3
« You Get What You Pay For »

You get what you pay for with the Best Western. The place is adequate. Improvements could be made in cleanliness. Also, the staff seems to need additional training. The hotel did not have a bottle opener that could be borrowed.

    « Helpful Staff »

John and Yousof were very accommodating in answering my questions, looking up information, recommending restaurants, arranging transportation, accessing Internet. The cold lemon water in the lobby hit the spot refreshingly when I returned from walking to and from conference and points of local interest. I was disappointed that there was not an outdoor pool. Coming from the north where temps are already in the low 50's, I would have liked to have been able to enjoy the sun and heat more.

    « Best Best Western »

This it the Best Best Western I have stayed in. I came in for a conference and was going to stay at a pricier hotel, but it was booked. I gave this hotel 5 stars because of John Oenlke the front desk clerk!! When I entered the hotel he greeted me with a smile. He was very friendly and able to get me into a room at a speedy rate. He also gave me locations and directions to the hot-spots nearest to the hotel. He is a great asset!!!

Perfect location in the Houston Medical Center with free parking. We will be coming regularly for the next year and if the cleanliness and quality stay this good, we will stay here for all my husband's follow-ups for his eye surgery. For our first eye consultation we booked a La Quinta in the same area for the same price and were horrified by filthy lobby, unpleasant smell in the room, and tub wouldn't hold water.

    « Stressful Stay »

We chose this hotel for its location to MD Anderson. Unfortunately, the service was extremely unacceptable. When entering the elevator, the lack of care and cleanliness was apparent. Our room was clean, but when we settled in to watch Monday Night Football, the cable was out on our TV and we had no wifi. When we tried to call the front desk, both phones were out in the room. We used our cell phone to call, but nobody would answer our call. We called Best Western Customer Service and voiced our complaint. They informed us that we would be receiving a returned phone call shortly. That never happened. The next morning as we were preparing to take a shower, there were no bath towels to use. Trying to call the front desk was unsuccessful. So, the price we paid, which was pricey, only included a bed and a/c. We will not stay at this location, again.

« Worn Out, billing incorrect, location good »

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. It is right across the street from the medical center and next to Rice. The hotel is an older design and feels cramped. The paint in the rooms is haphazard. The hallways and elevator had a funky, old smell to them. This hotel could use some major TLC. Wifi is very slow and iffy. When I checked in I was not greeted in a typical fashion, not told about breakfast or how to log onto wifi, not welcoming in the slightest. I stayed here by paying with Best Western Reward points. When I checked in I was told I would also get a charge of 25.76 per day. I called the customer care line and they verified that no, this is just a hold put on your card so you don't trash the place. When I checked out today the charges were still there. They are trying to resolve this now. I am very dismayed at the unprofessional front desk service I got upon check in and check out. I will not be staying there again.
