    « Good for a night »

Good hotel for a night. Don't know Hobart so can't really comment on the location but appeared to be central. Comfortable bed and decent shower. Small balcony. Didn't have any food on site but menus looked great. Parking was $10 a night - other hotels offer free parking so they might want to review that.

« Close to centre of town »

Stayed 3 night, the room was large and comfy, private balcony and bath tub. The motel is situated close to the centre of Hobart so you could walk to shops easily. Bar and restaurant on site. I'd stay there again for sure.

    « Value for money. »

Centrally located, close to cbd, north hobart restaurant strip and salamanca place. Easy parking at a reasonable rate. Rooms clean and comfortable. Staff willing to help with any enquiry when required. A pleasure to staycat rhis hotel

« Location good (thats the only thing) »

Good location specially for dropping up rentals in the city But the hotel needs an upgrade in terms of the room. Extremly noisy water running every half hour or so, air con not working proper. long waiting times since reception seems to be understaffed

« Great room and perfect service »

I stayed one night at the Best Western in Hobart and loved it. The room was big the bed was very comfortable and the staff were great. My favourite thing was the 24hr tv station of crime shows!!!! (Just in case there's more like me out there). Room service was quick and the food was great but for the eggs for breakfast. They were odd but everything else was great! Will definitely stay again.

    3
    « Clean but dated »

The hotel is clean and tidy although needs a big refurbishment. The bathrooms are really dated - the hotel would have been the best in the 80s and unfortunately has been left behind. The staff were lovely though and very quick with service. I think I would take the time next time to find something a little nicer for my next stay. The bed was fine though.

    « Surprisingly great »

A big thank you to the staff at Best Western Hobart. We had mistakenly booked the wrong dates but they were incredible and had us sorted in no time at all. As a frequent traveller, I was more than impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the team. I will make sure to stay at Best Western again as a result.

« Very friendly and accomodating even on a really late checkin »

We arrived after 9 pm and the concierge was immediately at the desk to let us get into the checkin, then he suggested where we can have a dinner and it was a really good place. All sorted in just few minutes Thank you

    « A bit uphill but that's Hobart »

the staff are so so nice friendly helpful at all times nothing's a problem John came up with good ideas of what to do my only complaint was that the coffee in the bar part was never hot enough, but good onya yes I would stay there again

« Stay Elsewhere in Hobart »

Tasmania is simply amazing, and Hobart is a really neat town. But the Best Western is not the place to stay. Over-priced, tired old hotel. Listened to traffic and wind whistles for two nights, room reminded me of an old Motel 6.

« Great hotel in Hobart »

This is an older hotel but it is extremely clean. The bed was excellent as was the tv channel choice. The bathroom was on the small side but well maintained. The amenities supplied were good. The room had a Nespresso coffee machine with a milk frother! With this you got suppose two 250ml long life milk which I found outstanding! The hotel staff at the front desk were outstanding with every interaction we had with them. Very friendly and helpful. The hotel is not as centrally located as it could, but given the size of Hobart this does not really matter as you can really walk anywhere in 10 minutes. I would definitely stay here again.

    3
    « Upgrading required »

Location is within the CBD but take 15-20min walk to Salamanca. Hotel room is run down need upgrading. The room has no shower gel & shower cap, carpet looks old & dirty. Hotel is very noisy, slamming door could be heard loud & clear. Not recommended.

    3
    « Improvements needed »

We stayed in a family suite (1 King and 2 singles) for 3 nights. The staff were friendly and polite and overall service was good. The buffet breakfast was adequate but the menu in the restaurant was limited unless you are into pizzas. The hotel needs a facelift - it looks rundown. The room was spacious but noisy. We could hear banging doors and feet pounding from the room above. Overall I would say the hotel is adequate for a short stay but the family suite is not good value.

    2
    « Holiday »

We stayed here for the last 2 nights of our Tassie holiday. Unfortunately it was my least favourite place to stay of the whole holiday. The good bits - staff were friendly. The buffet breakfast was ok and there was a lot of food to choose from. It was a short walking distance (about 10 minutes) from Hobart's main attractions. The room was clean. The not so good bits - the place (inside and outside) looks like its still in the 80s. The room was noisy I could clearly hear the traffic and the pedestrian crossing lights going off, and the toilet strangely 'replenished' its water supply every 30 minutes). The bed was large but had a strange plastic sounding/feeling bit in the middle. Parking under the hotel was $10/day.

    2
« If you want a roof over your head »

This hotel is simply run-down, out-dated and old. It is a mid-range hotel which is in need of a serious overhaul. I hope Best Western consider investing in a refit of this hotel. But it is in a great location, staff were helpful and the bed comfortable. I would not recommend this hotel unless you simply want a bed for the night.

    2
    « Tired and formulaic »

A hotel that's changed hands a few times over the years, is looking tired. The upside is staff were welcoming and helpful. The room furniture was comfortable and has been updated in the not to distant past. But the makeover appears limited in scope. The bathroom for the room didn't look as though it has not been touched for sometime. There really is no excuse for a chipped enamel bath that is rusting, chipped paint on the bathroom door and a poorly repaired carpet. And why oh why do hotels find it so hard to keep the air vent in the bathroom clean? There's no excuse for heavy accretions of dust and dander on the air grille. This would be acceptable in a backpacker hostel but not when paying top dollar. In similar vein, there's a limit to what a hotel can provide for a continental breakfast that makes economic sense but providing just cubed melon as the sole fruit suggests complacency as does using the cheapest tea bags on the market. Would I make a return visit? Most likely not, I'd try elsewhere.

« Nice comfortable hotel with convenient location »

We were at the Best Western for three nights and it was very comfortable and clean. Included breakfast was very nice, but needed to order the coffee special as the coffee machine was instant. Close walk to most everything in Hobart.

    5
« Excellent location and service »

Great place to stay for a long weekend. Easy walk to shops, restaurants, markets and the pier. Staff friendly and helpful and it was great to have such a good restaurant/bar on sight too. Will come back!

    « xxx »

Bath room and room was very dated and I did not feel that it was very clean. I found a used cotton bud on the shelf near the TV when we first arrived. My other big concern was that I always open my window fully so that my room can be aired out. However, my room only had a small window (which did not open fully) instead of a full length window, door and balcony that I was expecting. I would have appreciated being warned about this as it really spoilt my stay at this venue. I doubt I will ever stay at the best western again and obviously I will never recommend it. One bright light is that your reception staff were very helpful and the beds were great.

    « Tassie Break »

We arrived at the Best Western Hotel on Friday afternoon, driving from Cradle Mountain. The check in was fast and very efficient. Our room was on the 5 th floor facing the city and wharf area. Our room was clean and comfortable. Coming from Sydney we were amazed at the lack of street noise, no constant sirens, horns blowing or general traffic noise. There are many restaurants near the hotel and it is only a short walk to the wharf area. Asked for a blanket and it arrived pronto. The breakfast and parking is $10.00 per day extra. The breakfast was good and heaps of choices in cereals and fruit. I would stay here again as it was very quiet and near most things that we wanted to see. Our only complaint was the Embers Restaurant, went there and no one came near us to serve us. One chap told us to wait 2 minutes, then went on to serve new customers with drinks and completely ignored us, and the other was very busy. Went else where for dinner that night.

« Great clean friendly hotel just off the CBD »

Stayed at the Best Western on my most recent business trip to Hobart and found the hotel clean, staff were very friendly and the location is very handy to most amenities. Had a works burger and a beers on arrival and staff were great. Breakfast buffet was a little disappointing but mainly due to crowds wiping out most of the hot foods however very soon replenished. I will return. Two thumbs up

    4
« Nice hotel close to city centre »

This is a nice hotel rooms are nice, smell clean and its central to everything, Not far from the mall and some good restaurants near by too. If you can grab a good deal a good one to book, I would stay here again.

« Convenience, just minutes foot walk to Hobart Central Business District and waterfront »

It is very convenience, just minutes foot walk to Hobart Central Business District and waterfront. Spend around 15 minutes' walk to Salamanca market (is open every Saturday, rain or shine, from 0830 to 1500). You will enjoy the fun atmosphere and their creative things. Nearby there is many restaurants, cafés and bars. If you want to decor your home, good suggestions to visit Spotlight (Hobart) where is located next street from Best Western Hobart. Enjoy much also the breakfast. Especially many fruit tea to be chosen! It is a must to taste oyster in Tasmania ...extremely fresh and yummy!

    « Holiday »

Wow. The first thing I must say is that our bed and pillows were sensational 5 out of 5, which is unusual for a hotel. We travel two or three times a year and most times the mattress and pillows are not good at all. This hotel is not really walking distance from the Main Street however they do have a car parking facility which is an extra $10 a day. The rooms are very clean and the staff are friendly. Over all in our opinion this hotel would be a 4 out of 5. We had a suite ( 2 large rooms ) because we took my mum and the total cost $221 a night. Thankyou

    « Short stay »

Have just checked out after a lovely 3 day stay. On arrival we needed our room changed due to a very deep bath with a shower over it and as I have had a hip replacement it was in accessible for me. This was very quickly sorted out by the lovely receptionist. We ate in restaurant here three times and the food was amazing and that's saying something because I'm fussy. Housekeeping was outstanding each day upon our return to our room each day it felt like we had just arrived. Taxis are plentiful and there is a bus stop at front door with a hertz hire car agency across the road. Hotel has recently been refurbished with some bathrooms still to be done. The staff are what make this hotel great they go out of their way to help you. Thank you for a lovely stay

« A great place to stay in Hobart »

I was a walk-in guest and they sorted me out in no time. Very accomodating and a pleasant environment. Probably the worst part of the stay was the subterranean car park which was a challenge to negotiate at times. On the edge of the CBD, it had good access to the city and an easy walk to Salamanca Markets

    4
    « Perfect for a short time »

Myself and my fiance spent four days in Hobart in early October just as it had ticked over to daylight savings time, this took a little getting used to but we absolutely loved the being able to stay out with the sun and have a drink or two by the beach or at the Hotels restaurant. The Best Western was a great spot for us it was close to everything and a very easy drive to anywhere we needed to go, the room was amazing very clean and would definitely go back again. overall our short trip was made very comfortable and it was always nice knowing we could go home to such comfort and relaxation. As I had friends and family we didn't see many attractions but there are many to explore and I think if we had more time we would have. Overall a great trip and I would recommend anyone to go down and see what an amazing place Hobart is.

    3
    « Comfortable enough »

Located at the top of the city so reasonably okay to access city centre- bit of a walk though. Car parking is convenient with lower ground lift access direct to your room. Bit awkward when checking in as not much space for drop off. Efficient and helpful staff. Hotel is a bit dated but clean, comfortable and in good order. We had a room on fourth floor with a small balcony. Comfortable king size bed and warm well lit room. Nice bathroom and shower. Embers restaurant is downstairs.

    4
    « Acceptable Stay »

Recently stayed here for five nights. Very little sleep due to inconsiderate neighbours. Reception staff were incredibly helpful and kind as was management. Our room was on the first floor with a King and single bed. Unfortunately there was no balcony and the window opened only a few inches so it felt enclosed/claustrophobic. Management tried to move us but unfortunately it was the school holiday period and they were fully booked. We had people in the room next door who flushed their toilet approximately every 15 minutes between two and six am on three consecutive nights. We understand someone may have been unwell and tried to be considerate but three interrupted nights sleep made us a wee bit grumpy. Management and staff kindly offered to write a note to ask them to be mindful of other guests. It didn't stop them. The hotel is simple and clean but dated and with plumbing and noise issues. I would give the staff ten out of ten, food five out of ten and the premises a five out of ten. Great location as It was an easy ten minute stroll to the waterfront, shopping and market areas and also restaurants of north Hobart on Elizabeth street. Breakfast buffet was basic fare and I ended up just having coffee. One child had a piece of toast and juice and the other an apple and some melon. It just wasn't appealing. Room service after 9pm was very limited. We returned from a long day out and had dinner out and when requesting an ice cream sundae from the room service menu found we were 15 minutes too late. We were offered cheesecake but the kids just wanted ice cream. Thankfully crust pizza delivered in 15 minutes to the room and it was cheaper than the room service anyway. Same with pizza we had in the room another night. Call Crust they delivered in 20-30 minutes. We found Daci and Daci bakery was an easy morning stroll and breakfasted there and at zero Davey cafe. See separate reviews.

    « Short stop over »

A nice enough place but a bit dated. The shower was over the bath and the floors slippery so that was a minus. The bed was comfortable and King size. The room clean but basic. We could hear the children next door well into the night but on the whole not too bad. Parking costs are added on to the bill, felt a bit ripped off.

  • 4
    « Central Location »

We stayed in a family suite and the kids had a separate room so it was spacious enough for a hotel. The room was clean and staff were nice. The location is great as it is a short walk to city centre, restaurants, shops and sights. It is very close to the Farm Gate markets which are on every Sunday and a great place to get breakfast. The only negative about this hotel is that it is very noisy at night. Although that only seemed to bother me and not the rest of my family. If you are staying here on a weekend don't worry about paying for hotel parking as there is plenty of free parking on the street.

    4
    « Good Location »

I was a little disappointed in this hotel. Listed as 4 star I thought would be nicer. The service was fine but the room's decor was very tired. The bath was very small really only suitable for a child or very small adult. We could hear the plumbing of the adjoining rooms running till very late. On the positive side bed was very comfy and room very clean. Location was very convenient for city.

    4
    « Hobart Central »

Had an Executive King room for six nights. Hotel is well situated in Hobart. Rooms clean with a good self service laundry on the fourth floor. Nice resteraunt at ground level and with good food and staff such as Claire who knows her Tassie wines, well done! Bus departs outside the hotel for the airport numerous times a day. Only suggestion to make in order to improve would be to have a movie channel available to rent fairly recent releases on a nice lazy day!!!

    3
    « OK »

Location relative to waterfront not great. A fair bit of walking to get around. Evacuation during dinner for 30mins left drinks on tables - what should have been cold beers and wines. Didn't see any staff offer diners replacements. Staff were efficient but not overly friendly. Noise separation between rooms and corridors not as good as could be.

    2
    « Too noisy »

Hardly any sleep. Heard everything that was happening on the street or in the hotel. The food on the other hand was fabulous and the room service speed great. Internet was also good. If it wasn't for the noise, it would be my go to Hobart business hotel.

    4
    « Long weekend holiday »

A quick 5 day break in Tasmania - Hobart staying in a family suite. Reasonable sizes rooms - suite consists of small entrance hallway, 2 separate bedrooms, bathroom and small fridge tea making bench in hallway. Small balcony in each room, wardrobes and plenty of drawers/ storage. All pretty good. Bathroom is a little small with shower over spa bath but adequate. Car parking underneath available but $10 per day charge applies. Friendly helpful staff. Close to CBD and Salamanca area, 10 -15 minutes walk. Value for money.

    1
« They need a new door for the balcony »

It is very annoying when stay in this hotel, and seems there is no door exist between the room and balcony. Almost like you live next to a high way, you constantly hear noise made by car pass by, I mean like 24 hrs. Think twice before you choose, whether what you paid is worth a good night sleep. And to the managements, you need seriously consider to do renovations, the sound proof of this hotel is very poor.

    4
    « Very comfortable bed »

As others have mentioned, this hotel is a little dated, but the beds must be new as they were very comfortable. The location is convenient - it is an easy walk down to the shops or the waterfront. I didn't have much interaction with staff, but the ones I did meet were friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

    3
« Very dated & not good value for money »

This Motel was pleasantly staffed, though customer service was nothing outstanding - almost average in fact. The Motel is very dated, just like Hobart itself. $199 for a basic room is totally over the top pricing - but to be slugged an additional $10 per night for onsite parking is just outrageous. I did not realise I would be paying top $ to step back into the 1970s!

    4
    « Clean and comfortable »

Minimal noise heard in the rooms. My preferred venue when in Hobart for work. Clean and comfortable rooms, wifi. Parking on and off street. Staff are always friendly. Some really nice cafes nearby for a coffee before work.

« You get what you pay for »

The Best Western in Hobart is just that, a Best Western. No frills, clean room, decent food at the restaurant and friendly staff. Was in town on business and choose the Best Western due to the price, which was very reasonable. If you are looking for a high end hotel, look elsewhere, this is a solid hotel but not five star location.

    4
« Older property that rooms can use an update, but good location and helpful staff »

Big breakfast buffet every morning, clean rooms, hot showers, a short walk to the shopping street and a bit further to the downtown sights. Wifi worked well. Happy hour with small snacks in the afternoons also a plus. We enjoyed the friendly staff who gave us good information on shopping and sights.

    4
    « short stay »

We spent one night at Best Western Hobart, it was everything we needed. Quite room, comfortable bed. The restaurant downstairs made it very convenient for dinner at night and breakfast in the morning..

    5
« Two week visit to Hobart »

This hotel was excellent value for the money. The staff were excellent - very hospitable and obliging. The in house restaurant provided good meals and we were well looked after by the friendly staff. I will stay here again on our next visit to Hobart.

    4
    « Pleasantly surprised »

This hotel was booked as part of a Jetstar package, and was very reasonably priced. We were apprehensive about our stay due to quite a few negative reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. Our room was a 4th floor room with balcony with an extremely comfortable king bed, large tv and a great hot shower.Although you are unable to cook or have a toaster in the room[fire regulations]it didn't cause concern as you can breakfast at the hotel,or stroll into town to many cafes.Take advantage of the great food in Embers restaurant on site. Staff were all extremely pleasant-nothing was a hassle! On site guest laundry is a bonus for travellers.

    4
    « Family holiday »

We stayed 3 nights here during our recent trip to Tasmania. This hotel is in a great location, we had a hire car but could have done a lot more walking if it wasn't too cold for us Territorians. The rooms are quite dated but were clean and more than adequate for our needs. The reception area is modern and welcoming and they have a really awesome restaurant! We had an amazing dinner here one night! It definitely rated a mention...

    4
    « Value for money »

We stayed 3 night for our first visit to Hobart. Great location it was a bit of a walk to the water front however very close to shops and lots of restaurants. We ate at the restaurant, had room service and enjoyed breakfast. Every meal was excellent, the pizzas were yummy. The hotel was a great place to come back to after a busy day sightseeing. The rooms were basic but what we had expected.

    4
    « Great Value! »

Great for a room, breakfast and place to come home to after a day of sightseeing. Hotel is older but it is obvious that the staff and cleaning are to a high standard. Would recommend and would stay again. Room was quite large, great coffee making facilities, minibar. Buffett breakfast was very fresh- poached eggs done excellently for a buffet!

    4
    « Great Location »

We had a family get together for a four day weekend. As we didn't have a car we walked everywhere and this location was fantastic. It is within walking distance to most of the CBD attractions. The motel is dated but very neat and tidy and it is also well managed. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

    3
« You pay for what you get! »

It was my first time in Tasmania, Let's begin in Hobart. My reading various webpages and knowing of 'Best Western', it seems like a good choice. It was promoted as newly refurbished a balcony and mountain views. Maybe the walls have been freshly painted and possibly new carpets? (the reception area downstairs did have a clean modern styled bathroom). The balcony could fit 2 people standing on peeling paint, in a 2m sq area with the air-conditioning unit, overlooking Bathurst St, at eye level you could see the mountains. The rooms were tidy and cleaned daily, 2 people need 2 bathrobes NOT one to share and a bathmat changed daily also. The fridge is noisy, I woke in the middle of the night imagining a tsunami alert had gone off! The staff were professional and the downstairs restaurant was OK, we didn't try any but the 'Embers', restaurant offers wood fired pizzas inspired by various cuisnes even one for dessert.

    « Good location »

Stayed at this hotel for a weekend, located very close to the city, short walk to shops, markets, restaurants. Good buffet breakfast, room was clean but very simple. This place was satisfactory to my needs

    « A short trip Melbourne-Hobart-Melbourne »

Staff were very helpful. My wife was in need of specific dietary requirements and the staff and management were only to happy to oblige. A very enjoyable stay. The hotel was close to all the ammenities and attractions we had planned to visit while in Hobart. Well done..

    3
    « good stay »

room was a bit older than I expected, wasn't to thrilled about having to climb in and out of bath for a shower, but cleanliness and service was good. Room service was good, but without a car wasn't any other options close by. Wasn't advised that over $500 would be still held until 2 days after holiday.

    2
« Extended holding of unspent deposit »

Great room in fantastic location. Still waiting for unspent deposit to be returned and could take more than 5 days so be ready to be assisting them to accrue interest with your hard earned money whilst you wait to get it back. Terrible deposit policy that will definitely deter me from ever staying there again.

    5
    « Good for a night's stay! »

My partner and I stayed here for one night and were happy with where we chose. It's in the CBD, close walk to Salamanca, clean, tidy and staff were friendly. Hotel has parking and a restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Our bed was comfy, we got a king size room with a balcony. Balcony is quite small but if you're only wanting to stand out on it for a moment this is ok. We could of maybe put chairs out to sit but would of been quite squishy as the air-con unit sits out there too. Everything was clean in the room and presented lovely. Would stay here again for a quick stop-over.

    3
    « Pretty good »

The hotel is an average 10 minute walk to the main part of town. The hotel is quiet and the staff are pleasant. Not fussed on the breakfast as the hot food was not hot but there are always other places to eat. The room was clean and warm (I went in winter) and while they did try to charge me for use of the mini bar, which I didn't touch, they were polite enough to back down and accept they were mistaken. My only suggestion is to check your charges on leaving.

    2
    « sleepless »

My wife and I stayed over 3 nights. The first 2 nights had a few noises coming through walls but nothing to compare with our last night. The hotel caters for conferences and functions. There was a party in a room that faced the corridor which has the guest rooms. Until 2am we had noise and banging doors from this party. Because of conferences and functions the car park gets full and you have to find alternative parking. The hotel is clean, but in need of an urgent renovation. The bathroom has shower over bath with plastic screen , no exhaust fan. The walls need sound proofing and Management need to move functions to a floor that is away from guests. Cannot recommend this hotel on our experience.

    3
« Good for an overnight stay »

One of the better accomodation places at a great rate. Nothing fancy but clean and had everything we needed. Staff were friendly. We had breakfast at the bistro and it's ok if you want to eat and run but definately better places to eat in Hobart if you have time. I suggest Raspberry Fool on Bathurst St for delicious breakfast and coffee and attentive and friendly staff.

    3
« Aged rooms and noisy »

We had two rooms throughout our stay, the first facing the road and the balcony door did not close properly. This made for a howling wind noise throughout the night and the road noise was very loud. We mentioned it to the front desk and we were relocated to another room at the back of the hotel. This was much quieter, but the room was still dated. The rooms were large enough to accommodate two people comfortably, and also enable some work to be done at the spacious desk. Some of the staff were fantastic, but one staff member that took our room service order was abrupt with no phone manner at all. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go locally through the CBD and to the water front dock areas. Overall, an average stay, and the costs reflect the quality of the rooms.

    5
    « Great as always »

Always have a great stay here. Rooms are spacious, parking is easy and you can come and go from the carpark at your leisure. Room service dinner was delicious! Very handy location and easy walking to lots of food options and also to the centre of town.

  • 2
    « Aged Hotel »

Location is good, walking distance to the main town center. Room being put on a very limited efforts to maintain and clean up. Many individual hotels are much better on upkeeping the room unlike this hotel although it is a chained brand hotel. Please be prepared to forget about the word "service" while you are going to stay here but only "Self Service" and no expectation will be better if you are going to stay in this hotel Luckily that I just stay an overnight and go.

    4
« Good safe place to stay in Hobart »

Located just on the fringe of Hobart CBD Best Western is retro 80's style but up kept to 2016 standards. Cleanliness of rooms, bathroom, sheets and towels were comparable to any 5 star hotel if better.

    4
    « Hobart Stay »

Good location with small car park which you pay for. Room was a little tired but spacious and having a balcony was nice but being there during winter we never used it. It was a warm room which was great as it was winter. Staff were helpful and friendly and greeted you as you were arriving and leaving hotel. Gym was small but adequate.

« Value for money but basic »

Great place in the city, very clean and good value for money. Décor very basic but bed comfortable. Little things let it down like chipped tiles and poor carpet repair. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would not recommend the restaurant as not great quality and choice and expensive.

    « Fabulous stay! »

Staff were outstanding - warm, friendly, welcoming, informative, senstive to individual needs - especially when dealing with traffic advice, directions to airport etc. Meals in Embers Restaurant consistently wonderful. Onsite parking a bonus - although having to pay extra for it seemed unnecessary. Room was outstanding in all respects. Especially impressed by restaurant staff, who accommodated a family dinner with outside guests (including two small children) at short notice. Central location was a bonus. Quiet. Great amenities.

« Fantastic place to stay »

We booked online and arrived at the Best Western to a seamless check in, gorgeous room, great staff and facilities. We had a great view with some snow on the mountains. Nothing was too much trouble and staff were so friendly and attentive.

« Avoid at all costs »

Dated rooms, 1970's bathrooms, dirty carpet, terrible coffee, extremely unfriendly restaurant staff, beds on wheels- wake up on the other side of the room, the only 2 positive thing is the location and close to Salamanca market and secondly the live entertainment on Friday nights was fantastic!

    « Yawn! »

We just had a three day weekend here, and regret the choice. This was a romantic anniversary for us, and I should have done more research first instead of grabbing a deal - which wasn't even that cheap for a budget grade hotel. I called the review "Yawn" for two reasons - First, the hotel is a little tired, and the state of the maintenance is mediocre despite the 'renovations'. The bed and TV were new and top notch, but why let guests stay in rooms which have the towel rail hanging out of the wall and the little balcony peeling in paint? A few minutes by a Handyperson would have these rectified instantly. Secondly the room was really noisy. The aircon was like a jet turbine, and the windows are not double-glazed and stopped no street noise 5 levels up from a busy street below (non-harbour side). So we didn't get any quality sleep with the traffic / street noise. The location is just on the fringe of the city, a 1km walk down hill to the docks and Salamanca Pl. Highlights were the front house staff attitude, undercover parking, room size and decor (except the wall art) for a budget hotel. As a romantic Hobart weekend hotel, I would not recommend. There are so many other funkier accommodation options that I regret not exploring.

    « Holiday »

Chose Best Western as it offers great discounts for government employees. I was really impressed from the minute we checked in - staff allowed us to check in early and upgraded our room for free due to our length of stay (9 nights). This was a welcome surprise. The room was really clean and bed very comfortable. The room was nothing luxurious but certainly met expectations. All the staff we encountered were friendly and seemed happy to be here. The carpark is also handy as we bought our car over from Melbourne.

« Great location, fantastic view and excellent staff »

Booked this hotel intending to stay one night on business in Hobart mainly due to location but with room on mountain side had an excellent view of Mt. Wellington. The Staff provided excellent service across reception at check in and then through the lounge bar and restaurant

Stayed here for 1 night October last year Comfortable bed and decent size room Only thing I did not like was the shower over bath - not to my liking Breakfast the next morning was great - plenty on offer

« Good bed bad restaurant »

The hotel is ok but the restaurant was understaffed. We had to wait a long time for our table to be ready even though there were empty tables then had to wait over an hour for two pizzas. I have stayed here a few times and always its the same with the restaueant "we are understaffed"

    4
    « Accessible and comfortable »

The room was basic, yet had a modern tv and a balcony (thank you!) I am not a fan of heating in hotel rooms so was able to open the door for some fresh air while in the room. The bed was the most comfortable I have been in at a hotel for some time. The car parking onsite was easy and at $10 per day was affordable. Was disappointed with the after hours room service menu, but being city central there are many other options still available. Very much would stay again, although, i hope by the next time they have safes in the room, maybe some sort of sound proofing under the doors.

« Reasonably priced nice quality hotel »

Have been staying at the hotel for years now and never had a bad experience. Always friendly staff, clean rooms and fantastic restaurant with some of the best wood fired pizza you will eat. Good facilities on site and within short distance to some great Hobart attractions and city Centre. Highly recommended and good value.

« Decent location, nothing special »

Two to three blocks from downtown and market. Staff fairly helpful. Once again fairly clean but nothing special. Our room was clean and quiet even though it faced the street. Underground parking available for a cost although a little tight.

« Standard clean and okay »

Booked a night at the Best Western over the New Year period. The room was clean and tidy.. loved the balcony which was great for a beer. The Hotel is a short walk from the city centre and close to the markets including the Sunday Market and Salamanca Market. Worth a stay.....

« Good value for money »

Stayed in King size room for two nights. A little tired but pleasant and comfortable. Stayed for a second two days on return from Launceston. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

    « its clean »

we have booked two room for our 3 days two nites getaway. It was room 528 and 518. The hotel feels outdated, the furniture and ambience looks cold and univiting. The room 518 is outdated feel but has clean comfortable bed with extra pillows, the bathroom looks old but the bathtub very clean, with top water pressure shower. It has balcony to nice city view. the breakfast has a good selection. The staff were great and accomodating. overall the hotel good for short trip, if you looking for basic clean bed and great shower, this hotel def. has it.

    « Value and Location »

We stayed at this Hotel in kinda off-season early July. It is great value considering it is in the CBD and walking distance to Salamanca Markets/Place. The staff and the service were excellent. The rooms are descent.

« Fridge problem and out dated »

We had booked two rooms for two nights and found the place adequate. The only problem was the fridge in our room was more of a heater and caused the milk and deli items to go off, some $100 worth. On checking out we had informed th receptionist who advised us that she would like to offer us a free buffet breakfast on our return visit later that week. We returned later that week for a further 2 night stay and were initially given a twin room, instead of a king room, easily fixed though, however the room that we had, had a fridge that froze everything and the curtains were hanging off their runner, the balcony door did not lock and the back of the bathroom door was rotted due to excess spray from the shower. We took the offer of breakfast up, but observed the chef just putting freshly cooked items on top of already prepared food - felt if we had to pay, it would not be worthy of the $25.00 per head. Overall though, it was a two night stay, and the bed was comfy. Definitely in need of a makeover though. Also problems with swipe cards cancelling out

    « A True Bargin »

We took a 3-night deal of $100/night for a double room including cooked breakfast. Great value. Located right on the edge of the CBD. Close to everywhere including Salamanca Place and Sandy Bay. Its also a good hotel for business travellers. My wife and I will definitely stay here again when next in Hobart.

« Best Western in Tasmania »

Best western hotels - worse hotels I have ever been in four start ranks. I have been to both Hobart and Launceston's Best Western, rooms are old and smelly, bathrooms old and cheap looking. Carpets old and dirty. Everything is only functional, Not worth the price we paid. Hobart also facing a Main Street with no sound proof window, very noisy at night.

    4
    « Fine hotel »

This hotel is in a nice location within walking distance of the CBD, restaurants, MONA ferry, art galleries and museums. The staff were friendly and very helpful, quick to solve problems. The room was clean, big bed comfortable, nice aspect over the city. Bathroom could be updated, it's looking a little tired, and the toilet was hesitant to flush correctly!

« Radar Travel Group,Three couples spent three nights on a weekend »

They management mixed up our rooms however after the management had corrected the problem they gave each of the couples a food and Beveridge parcel which was very much appreciated. Room cleanliness was excellent staff were very friendly, all meals including Breakfast were wonderful and again the staff were great. Easy access to parking facilities , central to main city shopping...

« Affordable and good value »

Location was excellent, good walking distance to city and harbour. Restaurant was good, wood fire pizza excellent, staff helpful and friendly. Room comfortable, a little makeover would be good, downside, you can hear the showers going in the rooms either side. Parking excellent and good value. Lovely restaurants in walking distance, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and local pub.

    4
    « Good hotel »

Good hotel within walking distance to most art galleries, museums, and restaurants in Hobart's CBD. Friendly staff. We had an issue with the lock on our door, and it was fixed promptly. Only downside is the included wifi is woefully slow at 1.7MB/s download and 2MB/s upload. This area has had NBN since March 2015, so these speeds are unacceptable. Basic NBN speeds of 25MB/s should be standard.

    « Moyen »

We booked a family suite for 7 nights at this hotel, and we are not coming back... The hotel is close to everything shopping centers, restaurants... But the room needs yo be refreshed especially the bathroom which is old and not clean enough. The hair-dryer was full of dust since we arrived until we left. The bathtub is that deep and not suitable for child and someone who got problem with their knees... It was the first time that we experienced a 4 stars hotel without safe inside the room and not responsible of anything missing in the room ( the hotel got safe in the reception). Never been down at the hotel's restaurant, we just ordered room service. I won't say it wasn't good but we just didn't enjoy the taste. If you like something modern, this place is not right for you...

    « Convenient, comfortable & quiet. »

Quite adequately sized room on second floor with balcony. Though on the main street side of hotel noise was not a problem. All the usual amenities provided and well serviced daily. Carrying a back complaint means many beds cause problems. This rooms bed was extremely comfortable, a pleasure to return to after a cold nights Dark MOFO festivities. Very well located within easy walking distance of all central Hobart's attractions. Certainly happy to return there again and recommend to others.

« City centre, comfortable and friendly »

I have stayed here twice in past 2 months on business and each time had a fifth floor room with a view and a balcony. First trip room faced the water, second trip faced the mountain. On both occasions, rooms were quiet enough for a good night's sleep. Quiet aircon and bar fridge too, big plus. Good water pressure in the shower. Sensible and practical decor. Big beds and extras such as dressing gown, slippers, spare blanket. A table with 2 chairs (rare these days) PLUS an office chair and work space. Free and relatively fast WiFi. Importantly, excellent staff attitudes, from the reception to waiting and cleaning staff. The lounges, bar and waiting areas are roomy and pleasant. I'm already booked again next month.

« My only regret is not being able to stay longer »

As part of my delightful trip to Hobart, staying at the Best Western Hotel played a major role in delivering a pleasurable experience. I stayed in a standard room, on the fourth floor with a balcony looking out towards the ocean. The room was very clean and well presented while the service was immaculate, efficient and weren't afraid of delivering that extra step in providing excellent customer service. I highly recommend anyone that's stopping in Hobart to stop by the Best Western and stay a few nights.

    « Best Western »

The retro furniture doesn't add to the décor. Beware of the hidden $50.00 per night and $10.00 per day car parking costs. I guess I'll find out when the bank statement comes what I have actually paid.

    4
    « Comfortable Stay »

Onlt had a brief overnight stay here. But the room was nice, undercover parking is available, free WiFi and the restaurant downstairs was great for breaky. Will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Hobart.

    « Below average »

I cannot ? in good conscience ? award this any higher than two stars. This is like a motel from the 80's, and not in a good way. The blue, garish, molecular-sized bathroom (with polyester shower curtain) is possibly the worst hotel bathroom I've seen in years. And the room decor was straight out of a time warp. The laundry bags are black, plastic bin-bags. And not even strong, expensive bin-bags... cheap, and nasty bin-bags so that I thought my dirty clothes would bust a hole and spill through the bag. And you wouldn't think that Hobart would suffer from traffic noise... but my room was somehow able to miraculously amplify every sound from the street below. I have to give full credit to the staff working here ? the front desk staff (both checkin and checkout) and the restaurant staff were all really charming and helpful. So my disappointment in this hotel is 100% related to the facility itself, not the people running it.

    3
« Ok hotel, nothing special »

We stayed at the Best Western for 1 night in June. I actually don't have too much to I say about it....it was ok but nothing special. I was a bit annoyed that we had to pay $10 for parking when there was free parking (free on weekends) outside and sort of wish the check in agent had advised us, but I guess we could have checked ourselves. Breakfast was a standard buffet of 3 star hotel chain quality...though having said that there was a fair selection of different foods. The room was reasonably clean but dated, and service was slow but effective. The best thing about this hotel is that it's within walking distance to the harbour and other Hobart attractions.

    3
    « Budget friendly..... »

You can often get great deals to stay here. The location is amazing and we never took the car out of the parking garage for the whole trip! The bedrooms have been updated nicely (sadly the bathrooms have not), the staff are super lovely and there is a small gym on site. Unfortunately the room that we had was right beside the traffic intersection and beeping traffic lights hardly lull you to sleep. This was not helped by the fact the sliding door to the balcony did not latch properly and all night the wind whistled through the gap. After two night without much sleep I am still ok with the price and location of the hotel but not in any hurry to return.

    4
« Decent hotel in the city »

Best Western Hobart was value-for-money. The interiors were clean and spacious and the location was decent. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Salamanca Market and a bunch of restaurants near the harbour. As I was sick during the trip, the staff was also very helpful pointing my partner in the right direction for the pharmacy and eventually a doctor. Will stay again.

    « just because »

if you want an awesome sleep the beds are amazingly comfortable and really - sleep is al I was there for and a shower in the morning. very close to the centre of the city. parking overnight was fine on the street. the shower pressure was very good.

    4
    « Clean and Comfortable »

Very comfortable king bed, room and bathroom were clean. Street parking is unrestricted over the weekend so we didn't need to pay for the hotel's parking. Only hand soap, shampoo and conditioner were provided in the bathroom, I could've done with body lotion and a shower cap in addition as a minimum.

« Great hotel but no free breakfast »

We love staying overnight at the Best Western Hobart for our quarterly "date" nights away from the children. On our most recent stay we were not granted the FREE breakfast as our reservation did not reflect the special they were offering.

    3
    « Be Careful »

This is not a bad Motel, but it is not helped by the people at reception. One of the ladies was excellent, but the other was a grump. It is a little overpriced, and the Restaurant is not quite up to standard as far as food quality goes. Whilst I would not recommend this place, I would class it as average and a little tired.

    « Best Western Hobart »

We booked a Great Western Suite through hotels.com. We checked into our suite on the 7 May for 5 nights and the room was very tired to say the least. The fridge also woke us up at night due to the noise and we had to mop it out one morning as it was full of water. The room was also very noisy due to traffic and pedestrian crossing signals. We enquired if we would be able to change rooms if available. We were told there were other rooms available however as we were going out for the day the room would have to be still available on our return. We thought this was quite reasonable. On our return we dealt with the Duty Manager John. John told us we should have packed up our bags in the morning and vacated our current room as now all the other suites were occupied. John also said that no notes had been left by the staff member we spoke to in the morning about our wishes to change rooms. We then had difficulty accessing our present room, and once we did we found it had not been made up. We went back to reception and enquired why and suggested to them that perhaps we had been allocated the other suite. The receptionist then said there had been a mix up and yes we had been allocated the other suite. We are very much under the impression that John for whatever reason did not want us to have the other suite. This was rather obvious to us in later dealings with him. Incidentally the ?new' suite was far superior and quieter. We understand that we are staying at the hotel on a discounted rate however if the hotel does not want to offer these discounts why join hotels.com in the first place. On the other hand if the hotel is quiet as it was, why not promote it to encourage return business. We had made a reservation for 2 nights on our return to Hobart the following week which we then cancelled on our departure. We have stayed in Best Western in Europe and have had very positive experiences. Not the case with Hobart, which is a shame as most of their staff were excellent. Never again.

We stayed the first night we arrived in Hobart and then decided to return and stayed the last 2 nights we had in Tasmania. King beds comfy and warm rooms. « Beautiful Hobart staying at the Best Western »

The bed was pretty poor, second night had to hit the floor. the rooms are a little dated now but are serviceable. The restaurant meals were very nice but I felt that they were overpriced and didn't include sides. ?The staff overall were very nice and responsive to ones needs. The restaurant served delicious meals in a timely manner. Also the breakfast was plentiful.

« More a Motel than Hotel, Needs Renovations »

Rooms need renovating - very much a cheap motel rather than a hotel Staff were a mix of helpful friendly girls and rather, unhelpful rude guys Good location, walking distance to everything in the city but above two car rental places and certainly not a particularly nice area The bathroom was pretty gross, tiny old shallow bath and old tiles and fittings There's no smoking allowed on the balconies or they say they'll charge a $200 'cleaning fee' fine Had three terrible nights sleeps due to the light coming in from the hall, the noise from the road and water moving in the pipes. I certainly wouldn't recommend a stay here unless it's a very cheap rate and you're happy with being in a Motel.

    4
« Retro is in!! Convenient location in Hobart »

Walking distance to all attractions: harbour, city markets, main shopping area, all Hobart city really. Bed soooo comfortable!!! Fabulous night's sleep! Rooms attractive, modern and very nicely furnished with soothing colour scheme and Coffee pod machine. Downstairs nicely laid out restaurant bar and sitting area. Good Pizza at bar with our sundownwer drinks. Tariff was up there but it was New Year week with lots happening. Undercover secure parking was a bonus.

    3
« Good location, great restaurant, average everything else »

This hotel is in a good location being only 15 minutes walk to Salamanca markets and the MONA Ferry. The restaurant is nice - lovely food and reasonably priced. Unfortunately there isn't much else really good about this hotel. The foyer has had a recent makeover which makes a fresh entry into the hotel The rooms however are a different story. Sadly in need of renovation the carpets are stained and ill-fitting (in the rooms and in the hallways) and in places paint has been chipped and black marks on the skirtings. While there is little outside noise (if in a room not facing the street) you can hear a fair bit of noise in the corridors and from adjacent rooms. Overall the rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. My room on the second floor had a view of the mountain (sort of) - and I was directly eye-level with a flat roof top forming part of the back of the hotel, along with the air-conditioning unit smack bang in the middle of the view. The roof top was littered with cigarette butts, bits of broken glass and electrical wiring off-cuts. Very unattractive and certainly not something you want to open a window to or look at. Except in the restaurant area there was very little attention given to detail. Staff on the desk were friendly and helpful. There is on-site parking but you have to pay $10 per night - or take your chances with street parking. The parking charge isn't made clear until you check-in. You pay extra for breakfast to be included and you pay a lower rate if you book breakfast on line to if you do it on check-in. Again not entirely evident on booking. Also be warned that a deposit of $50 per night is also charged to your credit card - refunded on check out - which is quite different to many other hotels. Some good and some bad with this hotel - overall I wouldn't say it was value for money.

    5
    « Great stay »

Awesome 2 night stay. Staff very happy to help with anything you ask of them. The bed and sheets I give an 11 out of 10 for comfort. Very clean room. Plesant housekeeping staff only too willing to stop to say hello and clean and service the room perfectly. I cannot fault this hotel and I am so relieved I chose to stay here during firstly for work then for leasure. I certainly was very well looked after. I had a delightful view of the city and full moon. The shower is far better than mine at home. I attended a conference dinner and staff were spot on with service. I will be back for sure and am very pleased to write this feedback as I know it's well deserved.

    « Fantastic staff »

Another lovely stay here. The location is very handy and parking is a lot better than other places. A ticket to come and go as you please rather than having to wait for valet or having adjacent parking that you need to pay for each time you enter/exit. The staff here are lovely; had an issue with air con and it was fixed quickly and politely! Will be back :)

A pleasant one night stay at the Best Western Hobart. The outside of the hotel looks a little 'tired', however, the rooms are modern and comfortable. Reception staff were very helpful and efficient. The bed is sensational. Good night's rest and very good value.

« Good location and comfy »

The Best western in Hobart is located at a good location close to restaurants and pubs. The wharf is a 15 min walk from the hotel. The double room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were helpful especially the staff who was at the desk at nite when we checked in.

The Best Western in Hobart is everything you expect from a Best Western: The staff were very pleasant and the room was very comfortable. Parking is very convenient directly under the hotel. Just watch out for the walk back up the hills after a night out in the wharf area!

    « comfortable and relaxing »

After travelling from Northern Tasmania it was quite relaxing to settle in and enjoy a comfortable room and rest. The room was clean neat and allowed myself to relax and catch up on some work with e-mails and the internet was adequate for this.

    « Very comfortable. »

Highly recommend a stay at the Best Western Hobart, great location and good value for money. The rooms are very clean, tidy and spacious and I wouldn't hesitate in staying at this establishment again. The only thing letting this place down is the restaurant.

    4
    « Comfy stay »

Although the hotel is a steep walk to & from the waterfront, we enjoyed the 3 nights in our comfy room. Clean bathroom & linen provided. Access to good quality restaurant (in the hotel). Friendly reception staff.

    « Short Break »

Enjoyed staying in this hotel during our short stay in Hobart City. Fantastic restaurant located ground floor of hotel, food was surprising very good. Service was so good that the waiter was tipped on our way out. We were allocated a room on level 3 facing roadside, a little noisy but bearable. Rooms were cleaned daily, very comfy large bed. Huge TV screen, fridge was stocked full. Friendly staff and great amenities including a gym. Would return on our next visit.

    3
    « Clean but noisy »

We stayed here for 2 nights for work. The rooms are small but clean. The bathroom feels even smaller. The staff were really friendly and the service in the restaurant was good. The room though was incredibly noisy, traffic, the crossing out the front, and then on Friday night we could hear the entertainment in the restaurant in our room. The location is convenient but we will be looking for somewhere quieter next time.

« Concert Tour to Tasmania »

Our Choir undertook a nine night concert tour including Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Mountain, Strahan, Queenstown and Huonville. We were a group of 38 adults and spent, in total, five nights at this Best Western. The staff took very good care of us and was able to feed us wonderfully and also accommodated late check out for all our rooms on the day of departure from Tasmania. We found the accommodation very good, location good and nothing was too much trouble for the management and staff. I would be very happy to stay there again. Thank you Best Western. « Stranded in Hobart »

The staff were very kind to help my husband and I when we were on a cancelled Jetstar flight from Hobart to Sydney. With most hotels sold out including the Best Western they found a room for us at a discounted rate because of a faulty air conditioner. We were grateful and we didn't need the air con anyway. Clean room, helpful staff and a late check out.

    5
    « Convenience, Comfort, Style »

Next time I stay at a Best Western I'm going to find out the maker of their beds. I want one! Best night's sleep. Although building is old fashioned on the outside, the suites are of the moment No garish colors, but restful and stylish. Coffee pod machine in the room. Nice bar and restaurant downstairs. Undercover parking was a bonus

    3
    « Overpriced »

Hotel rooms are run down and small. Had to iron my shirts in the bath. Staff were friendly and the coffee was good in the morning. Not near the harbour but it's in walking distance. $220 per night is way over the top. Supply and demand issue as the hotel was fully booked.

    4
« Good location Close to the CBD & Salamanca »

The Best Western is well situated on Bathurst St, you're a few minutes walk from Hobart CBD and malls & shops, and a 10 minute walk from Salamanca Square, which is always vibrant and a good place to visit for a walk, drink or meal at any time of the day. The Best Western is an older hotel, but is decorated in a contemporary fashion, the rooms are clean and tidy and spacious, the bathrooms are a little tired and could do with a refit, but it's not a problem. The bar and communial areas are nice and comfortable with a number of couches and a outside tabled area. The bar and reception staff are friendly. The restaurant serves great pizzas! The breakfast is good to with a good variety.

    3
« In the city area »

The hotel is part of the chain and is in a great location for the city , only a 10 minute walk to the water front and plenty of restaurants. The beds are extremely comfortable but the rooms facing the street are quite noisy.

    3
« Good value, lovely staff. »

Stayed 3 nights. The room was clean but we thought the bed a little soft and found the place a trifle overheated (even with the window open). The room was comfortable nonetheless. Staff are welcoming and very helpful. We very rarely dine in room but did so on our first night and had pizza with accompanying bottle of wine. The pizza was excellent (potato, mozzarella, prosciutto for those who are interested). A few people have commented on the uphill walk - it is quite short and would only really be a problem for those with health problems that limit their mobility and/or exercise tolerance.

    3
    « Meh. »

Cannot comment too much about the service as we only spent two nights in the hotel. Definitely doesn't feel like a hotel / 4 star standard to be honest. Not impressed with the facilities. The beds are not that comfortable to my liking and the bathrooms were really tight. Nothing really stood out during our stay but yeah. Average.

    3
« A 10-15 Minute Walk to the Main Attractions and Harbor »

Good location although a fairly long walk uphill from the waterfront. Room on the street side was noisy. Carpets and fixtures felt worn. Shower was a step up into a tub which felt shaky. Desk staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast not included ($A24 for a hot breakfast). Large lobby with seating areas. Internet free (but slowish). Refrigerator in room. Ok overall but not a 4-star or 5-star property. I would stay here again. If this review is helpful then please indicate so below.

    3
    « Comfortable bed »

Not much to share here as we stayed for one night, but the bed was extremely, extremely comfortable and the room is clean. The basic meets our expectation. And to add to it, the next morning was a weekend, we got to experience the local weekend market just a short walk across the street from the hotel. Love it!

Positive experiences were beds with semisoft mattresses and semisoft pillows, also locations close to main city centre. Receptionist service was very good.

    « Great comfort - terrible bath »

I booked this room on the basis that it had a bath. I know this may not be a top priority on most peoples lists but I dont have one at home so when I book a hotel I look for one with a bath (who doesn't love a bath) Whilst the price was average for Hobart (expensive for what you get) the room was very comfortable and we had a very very good night sleep - love the one soft one hard pillow on the bed to select from. What really let this down was the bathroom. The shower was great but the bath was about as big as a laundry tub. Im not a tall man by any stretch but I couldn't fit in it. Was extremely disappointing. Everything else was great, nice and close to the city centre, good bar, good staff (didn't eat there so cant comment) and good TV channels too. Just so disappointing with the size of the bath - it really was that small. Worth the stay - just re-do the bathrooms please!

« Ok Accommodation on the edge of the CBD »

The hotel has been partially refurbished - i.e. they painted the rooms, new beds and a LCD TV, but not much else. Still has the 70's "shower in bathtub" arrangement and balconies too small to sit on (a lot of the space is taken up by a big AC unit). The rooms are clean and relatively quiet. Staff are very friendly and helpful which is always a good thing when travelling. One important thing to note regarding the location: Hobart is NOT flat as most tourist maps seem to imply. It is up a hill and if you want to spend your time at the wharf, market or CBD, you'll be walking up and down hills A LOT (about 15-20 mins to just about anywhere of interest - one way!). Being up a hill you may think "must have a good view", again you'd be disappointed, no view of anything other than the mountains in the distance or high rise buildings. I would stay again, it's a solid choice for a business trip (value for money, writing desk, table & huge comfy bed) but for a romantic getaway, there are probably better choices nearby?

« Nice place to stay! »

Stayed for 3 nights. Room was nice and clean with comfortable bed and also free wi-fi. Room was not bright enough though because of the old lights. Staffs were very friendly. Breakfast was great apart from some of the danish were a bit burnt. Will recommend to friends.

« A comfortable place to stay on the edge of the Hobart CBD »

First impressions suggested this was a bleak corner of Hobart, however we soon found that the Best Western Hotel is a fine and comfortable place to stay, within easy walk of the main attractions. The hotel beds are fantastic: huge and very comfortable. The balconies are a nice touch, with lovely views to Mt Wellington. We even found a couple of attractive and economical ethnic restaurants just nearby. This is a reliable choice if you can't quite afford a waterfront hotel room.

« Comfortable, great value hotel »

Friendly staff, nice roomy lobby with comfortable chairs and easy access to ground floor restaurant. Beds are fabulous. Bathroom not so fabulous as difficult to step into a bath to have a shower if you're older.

    « Very Friendly & Accommodating! »

We're staying here right now and the staff at reception could not have been more helpful. I asked for a room with a view and the fellow at reception found my family a room with a view of Mt Wellington for us. He was so lovely. The family room is great. Very clean and functional. The hotel has happy hour from 5:30 - 6:30. The band were fantastic. This hotel is a wonderful option for good quality, good value in Hobart.

« Comfortable and good location »

Well-managed hotel with modern, comfortable rooms and very reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and helpful, food in the restaurant was very good. The was once instance where the breakfast buffet food was cold but when staff were made aware, they were excellent - apologised and waived charges for the breakfast. I suppose the chef needs to look at more capable food warmers. But other than that an ideal place to spend a few days while exploring Hobart. Car parking was modestly priced but the garage can be a bit of a squeeze.

    « Best Western - Hobart »

Well located hotel with good value. All locations to Hobart are easily accessable and a fantastic market on Sundays down the road at Bathurst Street. Staff were very accomodating and went out of their way to help. The rooms might need some renovating but still very comfortable. Did not try the in house restaurant but it seemed a little pricey compared to the value at Salamanca Place.Overall an enjoyable stay. Would recommend to anyone who values money.

« Well located on the edge of the CBD »

This hotel is just outside of the main CBD so we thought it was well priced. Only a short walk into the main shopping malls and the wharf area. We arrived at about 4-30pm and found the hotel easily. Parking in the basement area near the lifts was not a problem and there are trolleys available to take your baggage to your room if desired. Room was comfortable and had a small balcony with a view towards Mt Wellington. Stayed 2 nights but only used the bar for a drink and ate elsewhere. There was a laundry on our floor which we didn't use on this occasion but would be very handy another time. Would stay again.

« Strong artificial lemon scent! »

Stayed here as part of a work trip. There was a strong waft of artificial lemon scent as I opened the door. Wasn't sure if this was part of the hotel fragrance but my nose quickly adjusted to it and didn't think more of it until I entered a colleague's room and there was no such smell. I wondered if it was just that my nose had adjusted, but as soon as I entered my room again I could smell it. I was only staying for one night, so I didn't bother kicking up a fuss about it but it definitely gave me a bad impression of the hotel. Ordered room service from the restaurant below attached to the hotel. We were on a tight schedule so needed the food to arrive quickly and on time. Queried the person on the phone which items to order over others and sure enough, the food arrived on time and accordance with the time she had told me. If I can remember correctly, the room service prices were the same as the eat-in-restaurant prices, so I found that very good!

    « Good location »

The motel is located in the cbd and great walking distance to everything. Parking was $10 per night which is not bad compared to Sydney motels. The service was fast and friendly and when they ran out of my husbands favourite cider they ordered it in and it arrived the next day. That said again people need to be mindful of others and not to slam doors as you hear everything and our room was not the cleanest unfortunately. There was a thick layer of dust over the counter and tray which housed the mini bar wine and nuts. Was also a lot of hair in the bathroom. Locality wise and friendly service would bring me back.

    « my opinion »

good location, exellent helpful staff, unfortunately rooms that face Bathurst street cop a fair amount of traffic noise in the morning which woke us up often with noisy cars and trucks passing. But having said that I guess this is a downside of its central city location, maybe double glazing for doors and windows would help.

    « Dirty Hotel »

The hotel room was disgusting. Room and bed quilts weren't clean at all. The yellow stains on pillows were very visible. The hotel room was terribly equipped. The phone wasn't working at all, and was full of dust. The TV wasn't working either. When I tried to have a cup of tea, took out of kettle, there were some water left in it from the previous stays. Overall, very unhappy with the room and room services.

    « Staying in Hobart »

Very comfortable and clean operation with great food. Would have been better if complementary parking was available to guests. Walking distance to popular places of interest. Good value for the money would stay there again.

« Best Western a brilliant place to stay »

Close to town with off street parking - rooms are all you need for a quick night away. Clean and tidy and functional. Will stay again for sure. Please take the 200 character limit off this revue. i don't want to write a book.

    5
« Excellent value for money! »

I booked this place around 5pm for that same night $150.. Spacious clean room and bathroom. Comfy bed but the pillows are too big they hurt my neck.. Restaurant is not too expensive and the best meal we had in hobart. Room service is available- we got a cheese platter. Buffet breakfast was $24 which is reasonable.. But $19 for cold buffet (cereal and fruit) seems a bit steep. Receptionists were very friendly. Only problem that needs addressing is the wifi is extremely slow.. Overall exceptional value for money would definately go back!!

    3
    « reception service »

Hotel was full when I tried to book in, however Lucas on reception was brilliant, totally professional and arranged alternative accommodation. I would stay here another time purely because of Lucas's style and personality. Well done Lucas

    « Hobart stay spoilt »

We love Tasmania and our first visit to Hobart was greatly anticipated so it was really disappointing to find our choice of hotel was not up to standard. We have stayed in Best Western hotels before and they have been ok, this one however was not. I am complaining about this as it was the most expensive of all the places we stayed over a 2 week period and was the worst (no complaints about any of our other accommodation). The room was not clean especially the bathroom which needs an update, shower over a bath can be an issue and the bath surface was slippery, no bath mat provided. We told reception of our issues and were told we should have let them know sooner, we didn't expect an unclean room on arrival and it should have been cleaned properly over that 3 day period, lucky we took photos to show staff who as it turned out were not so interested. On a brighter note the food was really good, room service excellent. Overpriced for what we got, won't stay here again.

    4
    « Clean & friendly »

Good staff, quite & clean. A little far from harbour it is on foot. I parked there.with charge of A$ 10/24 hour. Met a big mainland Chinese group & some other Asian guests. Feldman good security. Overall good stay.

    4
    « Centrally located »

Spent a night here and it was more than I expected. We were given a room with a king size bed together with an adjoining room with 3 single beds. The only drawback was the 4 of us had to share one t&b. Breakfast buffet was better than I expected . staff was generally helpful. Hotel centrally located in the cbd area. We were charged $10 parking though for the day which I found strange. Room charge was higher than I would have thought.

    « Good room »

I was pleasantly surprised by the room since there's nothing pleasing about the exterior of this hotel. The room was large and nicely appointed. The breakfast was good each day and the common spaces were nice. We could walk to the wharf and Salamanca Market

    3
    « Pretty good... »

Very comfy bed, lovely reception staff, very average bathroom and (lack of) usual expected basic hotel provisions. Was really looking forward to bathing but with spa holes still present but not operational was not keen on the hygiene risk.

    « Hobart's Best Western. »

This is my first time in a Best Western Property. They were nice enough to give a diamond status. I love the location, a short walk to everything, just the way i like them. The front desk was really nice and really helpful. Pointing out the nice places to eat and visit. The room was cosy and for the price i paid, it was a steal. I would recommend this property for those visiting Hobart.

    4
    « Best Western Hobart »

A little overpriced, and although the room and amenities are on the verge of being due for an update, the room was spacious, clean, and offered pleasant views towards town. The front desk staff were attentive and friendly, offering helpful advice on the local area.

    « Fantastic service! »

We stayed here for 3 nights on our first ever visit to Tasmania. Although the rooms are quite basic, they were clean and well equipped. By our 2nd day, we realised the toilet in our room was not functioning properly. We reported it at reception, and after being accessed it was discovered it would need to be replaced. As they were fully booked they couldn't move us to another room, but instead gave us the key to a room near ours that we could use for the night (it was due to be occupied the next day, hence we couldn't swap to this room). They also gave us complimentary breakfast for the next day to apologize for the inconvenience. When we returned once the toilet was replaced (which was done in a matter of hours whilst we were out) they had left us champagne and chocolate, plus the offer of another free breakfast!! We honestly could not fault the service offered to us for this inconvenience.

« Decent Hotel But Dated »

The location is OK - just on the edge of the CBD but it is a fairly long walk to the water front. It is easy to get to by car and there is on site parking for $10. Per day. There is also a shuttle from the airport that drops off at the hotel.Rooms are a decent size but rather dated - especially the bathrooms.the wi if is also rather slow.the staff are very pleasant and also very helpful.

    3
    « Good location »

Great location, close to the city and to restaurants. The rooms were average but I think some have been refurbished. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced which I think is definitely a bonus. No complaints, no wow factor either but generally good.

    1
    « Offensive and disgusting »

We too relied upon TripAdvisor's review, and have now learned our lesson-never again. Appalling the state of room 209: this room and had not been dusted, bathroom not cleaned, chairs grey with dust , TV cabinet, side tables, ?snowflakes? of dust everywhere, carpet alongside of furniture and walls, state of beds-wow!!!. Another story!!! We called reception immediately, they sent us housekeeper, think it was Lorraine, who thanks to her, got it going. Reception offered free breakfast!! No thank you.We did not even want glass of water in that place. Unfortunately we were time poor first 2 days but moved out as soon as we could;we are deeply offended that hoteliers could treat guests with contempt, take the dough, run the place not answerable to anyone? Health authorities should definitely pay them visit. Message to others: Please do not write reviews that are misleading. How was this place given any positive reviews is beyond belief. Pull it down, rebuild. Go and visit other hotels to see how its run.

    5
    « One night stay »

Probably one of the top best hotels in Hobart. Not your typical Best Western. More upscale, very nice rooms, great restaurant with good food. Beds are exceptionally comfortable. Nice place to sit outside and have afternoon cocktails.

    4
« Comforable and well located »

We stayed here for three nights on a recent motorcycle trip from the mainland. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the hotel is located within easy walking distance of the CBD and the waterfront. The laundry facilities were handy also. The only slight negative from a motorcyclists perspective was the rather steep driveway and boom gate. Having to fart about with the parking ticket while holding the bike on a steep slope was *fun*. We ate at the hotel restaurant "Embers" on one night, I have posted a separate review.

    « Comfortable and handy »

Close and in walking distance to everywhere. Really comfortable bed - great spa bath, friendly accommodating staff. Nice to have a drink in the bar. The rooms were clean and fresh, I would stay there again.

    « Pleasant & Economical »

A 5 day relaxing trip was endorsed at Best Western, Hobart. All the services you expect at a reasonable price. Walking distance to CBD, ferries and tourist collection points. Most staff were friendly and creative enough to meet my needs. Recommended.

    3
    « Dated but comfy »

The best thing about this ageing hotel was the bright and cheery service. The rooms are OK but very expensive for what you get. But it seems that all of the accommodation in HObart is heading this way - nearly on a par with Sydney prices. Bed was too squidgy for me.

    3
« Not Value For Money »

The room was clean though small, the balcony was tiny, bed was good but have to boil kettle in bathroom/toilet, the toilet was not split system, bit behind the times for money spent, staff friendly but overrated for the value.

    4
« The best western? True Grit, you'll need it for the gym. »

The room was functional, if a little different dated. However, it was neat and tidy and offered good value for money. The gym is substandard with poor layout and aged equipment. The staff were friendly but the hotel lacks a buzz. Nothwithstanding this, I would stay here again. Reasonable location.

    « Fantastic »

This was a great place to stay beautiful views central in hobart. « More than good enough for an overnight stay on business »

Good location, opposite Auto Rent Hertz, which is very convenient if you need to rent a car! Quick and pleasant experience on check-in and the room was very comfortable. The only thing missing was shower gel (shampoo and conditioner only) but fortunately I had brought my own. Parking was at a premium, as the hotel was almost full, but I simply parked opposite in a loading zone (at no charge) and left before 8am the next day.

    « Great Location & hotel! »

What makes a great hotel ... Ok it has to be clean welcoming, functional bathrooms etc ... But most of all you need to have staff that will not let you down! I must say I will single out Brent from the front desk - he is a treasure! I hope that the senior management are seeing this- persons like him are hard to come by especially in my part of the world! Well done for a great stay!

    2
« Run down old place »

Rooms would really need a renovation. Where ever you look, you see things that should be fixed. Plus there's hardly any sound proofing between rooms... I chose the place because of the balcony - well it's uselessly small and crapy. With these prices you would really expect something better!

    4
    « Pleasant stay experience »

Nice experience and the hotel is in the city with nice views towards the city. Room was just enough for 2 adults and 1 kid, could have been better size. I must point out that pillows were too high and will definitely not suit everyone. Overall the experience was nice

« Comfy, but the food is pricey »

I really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were more than adequate for the price we paid and they were very clean. The free wifi was excellent also. The only downfall was that the food was quite pricey in the restaurant down stairs. $19 for continental breakfast (not including coffee) seems like a lot of money if you're only having a piece of toast and a bowl of cereal. I would still recommend the Best Western in Hobart to any travellers regardlessly.

    5
    « Nice Stay »

This is a really nice property, well central located (within walking distance to the attractions of Hobart), clean and with big rooms. The staff is very attentive, helpful. They also offer free wifi internet and help you to plan tours in and outside Hobart. I definitely recommend this place.

    5
    « Fantastic hotel »

My partner and I booked this hotel as we were given a discount through the Qantas website. Best Western makes me think motels, but this is a great hotel. And recently refurbished. In a great location, we enjoyed free parking, free wifi and the bar has free canapés at happy hour. Every room has a balcony which is such a nice touch with many hotels not even offering opening windows! The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept on, and the linens and doona were very high end. The room had a huge, new TV also. The bathroom was clean if not a little plain and old. The staff were super friendly, and the food we tried in the bar and from room service was delicious. I honestly can't recommend this place enough. It exceeded our expectations at every turn.

    3
    « Pleasant stay »

Well located in the city, within walking distance of Salamanca Market. The room was clean and comfortable, although I found the pillows a bit bulky. Hotel parking is $10 a day but there is street parking, which is all day at the weekend. All in all a comfortable stay.

    4
    « Consistent good value »

I have been using this establishment over the past 30 years and it has been consistently good. Spacious room, clean and well appointed. Handy parking underground. I liked the red carpet welcome mat at the entrance to the lifts! Staff attentive. Would definitely stay again. Central location with walking access to all Hobart's attractions.

    5
    « Great stay »

« Kitchen was great for our family »

I can highly recommend this hotel for family trip in Hobart. Close to everywhere. Great kitchen for family. Super fast internet & nice service. If I have a chance to visit hobart again. I will stay again.

    3
    « Holiday »

Poor quality bathroom facilities if you suffer any difficulty in mobility the shower was placed over a bath which was difficult to step into and out of if stepping up or balance was a problem. Advertisement of price of breakfast was easily misunderstood. Dont recommend this motel for elderly people.

« Good Place to Land! »

We started off our 3 plus weeks of our hiking trip in Tasmania by staying at this Best Western. It was a good location to rest up to get ready for more adventure. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good at both breakfast and dinner. Also had great "nibbles" at Happy Hour.

    4
« Good, central hotel in Hobart »

My husband and I spent 4 nights here recently and found the hotel to be pretty good quality, better than expected to be honest. The rooms are nothing fancy but very livable and very clean. Nice in size with a table and chairs, closet, coat hangers, iron, hairdryer. Bathroom not huge but very nice. Clean towels, hand towels, face cloths and foot towels and amenities re-stocked each day. The bed my friends is nothing short of amazing. We will come back just for those beautiful King Coil beds. What the hotel lacks in fancy makes up for it with an excellent bed and a good nights sleep. Sure there are outside noises, people walking in the hallways, doors slamming and kids running but that all settles down come bedtime and the city itself quietens and everything is just right.

    « Central accommodation - comfortable »

We stayed here for 2 nights in January 2016. The large king sized bed was very comfortable, and the room was sunny with views. The bathroom had a shower over the bath (which we liked). Very clean with very thorough house keeping. You have to pay $10 extra a night for secure under the hotel parking. There weren't a lot of spots, but we always found a park. We had room service on the first night. It was handy, but prices weren't cheap (as you would expect). There is a pizza option if you want to save your pennies. The hotel is very central. On the second night we walked a couple of blocks into town to grab some sushi takeaway. There is also a mini fridge, table with 2 chairs. We ran the air conditioning all night. Recommended.

    4
    « Great Attitude »

On a recent Business trio to Hobart I stayed at the best Western on Bathurst Street. The room I originally had on the 3rd floor was facing Bathurst street which was very noisy. On top of this there was a lot of noise like screaming children and loud talking in the corridor I went and asked to be moved and this is where I have to give 10/10 to the reception staff. Even though they were heavily booked they found me a room higher up at the back without any fuss or attitude. This certainly is a brownie point for them. The food was quite delicious but the bathrooms could do with some upgrades but really that is a minor point as they were very clean. Over all quite a good stay..

    3
« nice location, hotel is a little tired »

The hotel is within walking distance to the harbor, on weekends to the Salamanca outdoor market--very worth doing. The bed was comfortable, the Wifi was good, there wasn't a safe in the room, we faced the street but it was quiet at night. The rugs in the room were on the shabby side and the room needed a facelift. The staff were friendly and the breakfast in the morning was good as was the bar.

    4
« Nice rooms and nice food »

The rooms are comfortable, not flash but comfortable. Shower pressure is weak, bed is comfortable. I would have liked a smaller pillow but all were a large size, reception may have been able to change but I did not ask. Very limited WiFi, only 100 Megs a day. The restaurant serves great food. Close to everything.

    4
« Walking distance to many things »

Not a short walk to many things, but a reasonable distance. Staff were friendly and helpful and we were allowed to park our car underneath and explore the markets while we waited for our room to be ready (an hour before the usual check-in time - bonus!.) Our unit was 2 rooms and this was excellent for our family. King size bed was great, although all the pillows were enormous!! Towels were luxurious. Mini bar wasn't overfilled so we had room for our own snacks. Unfortunately there was quite a lot of street/car noise during the night - the sliding glass doors didn't really seal all that well (looked like original doors from 20+ years ago) but once the air-con was on it was pretty good.

    3
    « Dungeon »

It felt like we were staying in a dungeon in the room we were put in at the Best Western Hobart as our view was blocked by ugly brickwork so it was lucky we had only booked for one night. The room was clean though. Staying here added nothing to our trip so my advice would be to avoid staying here if you can.

    « Holiday's »

An average hotel not alot of facilities hotel needs a make over as it is very old.AC in room is way old.Had to pay for car park. The only good thing here is thst it is very central to get about.Too much to mrntion will leave it at this

« Family Tasmanian trip including Cadbury Marathon »

Very clean and spacious room. Had family room which had separate room for the children - ideal to give parents some freedom to stay up late. Hotel breakfast was good with a variety of options to please all family members. Hotel is a 10 minute walk into the city and the return walk is uphill. Staff are friendly and there is ample car parking. Hotel is perfect choice for anyone running the Cadbury Marathon as the bus leaves from the hotel door. They also do early breakfast for runners and a pasta buffet the night before. Would stay here again even if not involved in Marathon as the room was excellent.

    5
« Great Location Great Staff »

We stayed for a couple of nights and was more than happy with the service, facilities and the staff very helpful. Our travels included staying in various hotel including Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston we still rated Best Western Hobart the best will recommend them to our friends and family

    4
« Great Base for a Holiday in Hobart »

We stayed here for 5 days as part of the Cadbury Marathon and the hotel was a great base from which to explore Hobart. This is not a luxury hotel, it's a mid-range hotel with five star service. Every member of staff we encountered at the hotel from housekeeping, to reception to night staff, were polite, helpful and accommodating. We upgraded to an executive room with a king bed, a huge TV and a Nespresso machine. There's also a small fridge/mini bar, a kettle and tea, creamer and sugar, however, bathroom amenities are a bit thin on the ground so you'll need to bring your own toiletries. The rooms themselves are clean but unremarkable, and the bathroom is a bit tired and small, although the shower pressure was fabulous. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in and from the rear of the building, on the fifth floor, it was super quiet. Wifi was good both on phones and laptops. We didn't have a car and were able to explore all of Hobart on foot. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the waterfront and a 15-20 minute walk to North Hobart with a heap of cafes, shops and restaurants on your doorstep. For value for money, I think this is hard to beat.

« Comfortable Stay in Central Location »

We spent our first two nights in Tasmania in this hotel in Hobart. The airport bus takes you right to this hotel. Check in was fast and easy. The room was a typical hotel room. We had two full size beds that were very comfortable, large flat screen TV, free wifi, a refrigerator, and clean bath room. Everything we wanted to see and do was within walking distance from the hotel. Also, there were two car rental companies close, one across the street and one right behind the hotel. There is also a restaurant in the hotel, but we did not use it. We are also staying here on our return to Hobart after touring Tasmania.

« You get what you pay for (in a good way) »

We booked the rooms that were adjoined and had two twin beds in one room and a double in the other which worked well for my husband and me to share the latter and my mum and her friend to share the room with the twin beds. So all in all.... There's nothing incredible about this venue but there's also nothing wrong with it. Staff were friendly enough, room was clean and tidy and spacious enough. The main issue with this hotel was how noisy the main road is! It sounds like there is someone crossing the bloody road every five minutes, all night!! There are also noisy trucks going by in the mornings, which is hardly the hotel's fault but they could probably do with upgrading the windows to sound proof them a little more. Central enough location, though you might want to stay closer to the water if you want to be amongst all the action. So... for what you pay, this is a good budget hotel for a quick get away!

« A relaxing place to stay in Hobart »

A found a nice relaxing stay in Hobart. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was a kilometer from the pier, Salamanca Market, and numerous places to eat. In addition the hotel had good accommodations for parking.

    « Comfortable Stay »

My husband & I don't normally stay in Best Western Hotel's but we where presently surprised of the service in the Hotel. We had a King Balcony Room which was quite large with a nice bed however the bathroom was pretty small and in need of a refurb. All the staff where extremely nice and we where even able to check in a couple of hours earlier. We ordered room service a couple of times which was quite reasonable and the quality and portions were great value. While it is about a 10 minute walk down/up a hill to Salamanca and the Wharf it wasn't to difficult and a taxi was only $6-$7 back to the hotel.

« Nice Hotel, But Way Over Priced »

Stayed two nights on a short trip to Tasmania. Received very little for the excessive price which was high season but still not worth it. Per night was NZ$329.00 (US$240.00). Did not include breakfast, no Best Western Rewards Program member perks except the points and may not get those. Front desk help and answering questions poor to average, but the night desk clerk went of his way to be helpful. Hotel has a policy to not change US $ for NZ $. Room nice and clean. No coffee maker in room--did have Nespresso, not sure that is coffer, but no sugar and creamer. No tea. Bar tenders attentive and helpful, so that was one of the few pluses. Good location. Free WiFi. Net = Value was Poor for what I paid.

    « Clean and comfortable »

Have stayed here a few times with work, always a decent rate, clean and well serviced. Decent pizza at the bar and nice staff every time. Would recommend for a enjoyable stay for work or if visiting Hobart for a few days. Rooms have very comfortable beds which is always a plus, showers are located inside the bathtub which can be challenging for some.

    « Very comfortable stay »

Good TV and very good free wifi for guests. Great bed - very comfortable. The bathroom was good, but could possibly do with refurbishment. There was enough room for 3 people in our room. There was secure parking available in hobart, the hotel was in a good location, and the restaurant was very good!

Clean Hotel and comfortable bed but a bit dated.Could do with refurbishing and bathroom updated. Service was very good and staff helpful.Restaurant meals were good quality good selection for buffet breakfast.

« Nothing fancy but a perfect base for tourists »

This hotel is looking a little old on the outside but the inside is much fresher. If all you need is a comfortable bed for the night in a central location, it goes above and beyond in serving its purpose. The rooms have large TVs and reliable free Wi-Fi. Our view from room 227 (there are 6 floors) was nice, as seen in the attached photo. Two things to be wary of are the hot water in the bathroom was extremely hot - too hot - and you may feel compelled to pay $10/day for on site parking because of the parking restrictions on the street. Parking should be complimentary with a stay. The buffet breakfast was ok but the scrambled eggs were disgusting. The staff were all fantastic. The gorgeous Anna at reception instantly moved her car so that I could park under cover. Brett, a duty manager, loves a chat and was really helpful with my queries. For an awesome feed, head to the Shamrock Hotel down the hill about 80m away. I'd be happy to stay here next time I'm in Hobart.

    « Excellent Service! »

The Hotel offered a decent amount of leisure and relaxation along with excellent service from the restaurant's bistro. It is recommended you definitely try the restaurant if you decide not to stay a night, but if you do, all the merrier as there's a short walk back to bed with a full stomach.

    « Dated, but clean »

We were on the look out for hotel rooms with balcony. There were not many such options in Hobart. Best Western Hobart looked half decent on the web, so we went for it. Room was a good size, large king size bed, huge TV, though bathroom was small. Decor was dated. They had one of those dreadful combined bath and shower, which I thought was one of the biggest design mistakes older hotels made. Shower gel not provided, only bar soap. Door lock was wonky, handle on the outside gave way several times during our stay. Balcony door lock was not functioning properly as well. Though I must say, Reception responded well and sent someone to fix that. The hotel hardware left much to be desired. The saving grace was definitely the service, from Reception to Housekeeping, which earned them the 3 rating.

« Perfect Accomodation and Great Location »

My husband and myself travelled from Perth WA to Hobart on December 28th. We were made to feel very welcome on initial contact with reception staff. Because we were too early to check in having arrived around 11 am the staff were happy to store our luggage so that we could go out and explore until check in time 2pm. Also very happy to give us a quick layout of the CBD area so we could wander down to Constitution Dock to see some of the yatchs that had arrived. We stayed in a Suite - 1 King Bed on top floor of hotel, the accomodation was extremely comfortable and very clean and had Balcony views of the CBD from which we were able to enjoy the fireworks on New Years Eve. We stayed at the Best Western for 8 nights and were very impressed by how helpful all staff were that looked after us during our stay. The location was brilliant very close to the CBD area easy walking distance to see the sights around Central Hobart - Harbour Area, Salamanca Place, Visitors Centre and lots of great eating out options. We were very impressed with our stay here and all staff are to be complimented on their wonderful customer service - to us it was the perfect break. Thanks Best Western for making it so.

Good location within walking to the shops and salamanca place, the room was clean the bed was large and comfortable and pillows soft. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't have breakfast we thought $22 was expensive. So had breakfast elewhere.

« Decent, accessible and relaxed. »

We arrived in Hobart on Christmas day to a fully booked hotel. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful reception staff, who volunteered the map of the surrounding to assist us in our exploration of Hobart on foot. This is a basic hotel but it has everything we need. The room is spacious and clean. There is a fridge and television. Free wifi is available in the room (and in all the common areas of the hotel). Only complaint for me is that the lighting in the room is rather dim. There is a restaurant where we had our breakfast on the 2nd day (a Sunday). Fairly decent range of food. There is a small gym (a few treadmills and a resistance training station). Unfortunately, we have no time to use it for the 2 nights we stayed there. The hotel is located relatively close to the city centre. Walking will only take about 5-10 minutes, making it convenient. What's good is the Budget car rental shop is just around the corner, making it very convenient for us to pick up the car before we had out of Hobart. The atmosphere at the hotel is relaxed despite it being fully booked. Overall, a very good experience.

« Great stay at best western »

This hotel is relaxed and friendly. We had a great 4 day stay and found the staff to be accommodating and helpful. Our family room was very spacious which was appreciated with two active boys! The bathroom was the only downside being very small and tired looking, however this did not impact on our stay. I would definitely recommend for a family stay.

« Relaxed, convenient and comfortable. »

Friendly and efficient welcome and departure. Convenient restaurant with good quality food. Very comfortable beds and nice quiet location. Relaxed foyer meeting area where we could have a drink with friends and enjoy Happy Hour nibbles.

    3
    « Good location »

Great location in Hobart which means a short walk to Salamanca and neighboring hire car companies. The hotel room was clean and the staff very helpful and courteous. However the hotel in general is in need of a renovation - the bathroom in particular. Three stars max.

« Old building, but convenient »

Useful base for Hobart and surrounding area. Convenient in that it has useful car parking; Salamanca is a good 15 min walk away, but the street has a few nice eateries as well, and it's easy to get in and out of within Hobart. That's about as far as the positives go, sadly - old building, feels run-down, restaurant uninspiring, plumbing audible through the walls, Internet very slow when everyone is on it, general lack or cheerfulness. Booked as everything was full for taste of Tasmania, was ok as a bed and not much more.

    4
    « Hobart Hotels »

Nice lean rooms, wifi a bit slow but ok for emails, Facebook etc. the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant is good. The location is close to the wharf and city. Lots of hills so we will be fitter for the experience. Great seeing the winner come in for the Sydney to Hobart

    « Poor hotel »

I booked Best Western as it seem the only place with vacancies over December/January period. Got a family room on level 2. The property is pretty run down and quite old and dirty. Not what I would have chosen if I had the choice. The location is also not the best. Despite all this, I was prepared to put up with it for a couple of days. BUT, today is the third day and the room attendant did not change the bed sheets for the third day in the row!!!!! How bad is it when you're paying $400+ per night? When we reported it to the reception, the response was the suggestion box! This place is the pits!! Do not stay here if you have the choice.

    « Great »

This was my second visit here, so I knew what to expect, a comfortable, clean well appointed room with everything that I needed. And that was exactly what I got! A comfortable bed, clean bathroom, everything I needed to be able to work away from home.

    « Location »

Excellent hotel with great location - able to walk to Salamanca Market and the wharf area. Rooms and standard of cleanliness good , Problem with the bar fridge rectified quickly by staff. Sunday breakfast excellent deal.

    4
    « Disappointing breakfast »

Great hotel, great bar and evening restaurant. Pizza was wonderful. Very Asian focused breakfast. One thing I can not stand is a hot buffet breakfast with bacon that looks like it's been in the microwave or steamed. This was the case. No option for eggs to be cooked to your liking. A suggestion would be to have someone set up to do this. As the hotel is heavily favoured by Asian tourist, they would also like this option. They love an omelet especially when there are Asian ingredients to choose from. Small addition for a big impact.

    3
    « Friendly efficient staff »

Getting a bit old and needs some refurbishment but on the whole quite satisfactory. We were upgraded to a family suite which was good as there were 3 of us. There was live music in the bar on a Friday night but it was a bit loud. Our steaks were a bit tough with salad that was mostly leaves.

    5
    « Amazing Food »

Both the customer service and food were absolutely amazing, perfectly how the all the food blended together tasting marvellous. All food beautiful and fresh, the mango and avocado with the salmon was to die for. And of coarse all see food at the best Western was marvellous.

« Good for few nights »

Good hotel - busy with conferences. Good rooms - but noisy from traffic in mornings. Free unreliable wi-fi. Clean & comfortable. Friendly staff. Good restaurant for night time meals and buffet breakfast.

« Staff great. Room tired. »

I've just stayed here for 2 nights on business. I found the staff to be very good. Professional. Helpful. Friendly. The breakfast is good. The restaurant for dinner was very good. My gripe was that the room was tired and needed refurbishment. Paint worn. Bathroom, fixtures and furniture dated. The bed was comfortable on the plus side. I believe i got value from the quality of the staff. I don't believe i got value from the quality of the room. Safe travels.

« Very central and very comfortable »

Stayed in a balcony king room for 3 nights on arrival in Tassie then again for a night before departure. Very comfortable bed and room. Shower over bath. Easy walking, but there are hills, to the central shopplng area. A little further to Constitution Dock. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Enjoyed the free wifi. Would definitely come again.

« Clean, convenient and friendly. »

Driving into Hobart from the airport for the first time, the Best Western Hotel was easy to find as long as you were aware of the one way streets beforehand. Throughout our stay the staff were friendly and helpful. It was easy to walk from the Hotel to many points of interest and the main shopping precinct in Hobart. The Hotel presentation was basic (it epitomised it's era) and catered for groups, many of whom were from overseas. This added some interest to our stay. Rooms fronting Bathurst Street tended to be noisy and the Hotel would benefit from some renovations, particularly to reduce the noise emanating from other parts of the Hotel (especially above us - 3rd Floor). Also removing the baths would make access to the showers much easier for older guests. However, overall it was clean, convenient, had a good dining room and treated guests like they were important. The nearby Sunday morning Grower's Market was an added bonus.

    « Basic but friendly »

We stayed here in March this year for our Babymoon holiday - room was clean and very comfy (had a great night's sleep) the property itself is old (it was around when my parents were kids) but has been renovated and made over a number of times - the bathroom of our King Room was rather small (being heavily pregnant!) and dated but was clean and functional - otherwise everything has been modernised and is super clean. We had free wifi during our stay which was very useful. Location was great just a walk down the hill to the mall and other attractions like Salamanca. Plenty of on site undercover parking available. Staff were super friendly and very helpful!

    « Nice Location »

Stayed several night at the Best Western Hobart. Nice location, just a few blocks from the shopping center and docks. Friendly and helpful staff, nice rooms with comfortable beds. Free wi-fi was good most of the time but the drinks and snacks were a little overpriced. Nice restaurant. You do hear some road noise however. Would stay here again.

« EXCELLENT LOCATION; VERY COMFORTABLE; FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF »

I enjoyed this motel. It was very comfortable; the staff are friendly and helpful; and location is ideal. Parking for a large car is a bit tight (and expensive), however it was good to have a secure area. I just LURVE their happy hour at the bar .. oh and the bar staff are supreme

    4
    « Quick Holiday »

This hotel is within walking distance to the city. It would appear it has had a facelift. The rooms are adequate in size, bathroom needs some updating, however. Shower curtain over a bath in somewhat old hat, handbasin had a large crack in it, and only one piece of soap for two was certainly not appropriate. Staff were happy to supply more. It is a bit noisy due to being on the main drag, but that is to be expected because of it's situation on a busy street. The restaurant attached to this Hotel is very good.

    2
« Old, basic, wouldn't stay here again »

Stayed here on business to attend a conference, not through choice but necessity as other hotels were fully booked during this busy week in Hobart. Let's just say that this town needs to significantly increase its capacity and quality of accommodations and conference venues. This motel is very very basic. It is old, reasonably clean but not nice at all. Positives: - small basic gym for a quick workout - friendly staff - good restaurant (Embers) Negatives: - questionable hygiene (a chair in the room had an old smear stain in the middle of it that looked and smelt like faeces) - seems to attract unsavory characters - quite a walk from town and not easy to hail a cab unless you book and allow enough time - room and bathroom furnishings are poor quality and need refurbishment - room faced the main road and the glass balcony doors are thin and don't block out the traffic noise at all - room door is thin and poor quality and can hear everything going on in the hallways - personal security for me didn't feel very good for the reasons above Overall I wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it.

    3
« Convenient but in need of a little TLC »

The hotel was conveniently situated within walking distance to the wharf area but in need of a little TLC. Only 1 of the guest dryers was working for the 4 days we stayed and some of the lighting was not working in the dining room. However our overall stay was good with the staff compensating for the other problems. We would stay again

    4
    « Not green enough »

In view of Tassie's globally green image, was disappointed to see that shampoo provided was made in PRC. I realise BW is a chain with bulk supplies but a locally sourced product would have been appropriate. Also, I would like to see receptacles for recyclables readily available for guests. Travellers generate a lot of waste - papers, tourist literature, bottles, cans - all recyclable.Would be great if BW could do the maths and calculate how many tonnes could be saved from landfill .Their Australian website states that approximately 400,000 guests stay at BW per night. Time for hotels to take the environment into consideration. From BW's point of view worried about the bottom line, a responsible attitude towards the environment would enhance their image

« Visiting Hobart with friends »

While visiting Hobart with some friends we stayed a night at the Best Western hotel. The rooms were of a good size with a very large and comfortable bed. The bathroom was good although maybe a little dated. The staff at reception were very helpful and attentive. We did not eat at the hotel, having ventured out in the evening, and leaving early the following morning. Although we had forgotten our Best Western Rewards Card the receptionist kindly looked up our details to load on our points and provided us with our Rewards number just in case we were staying at another Best Western during our travels. We would be happy to stay here again.

    4
    « Hilly Hobart »

Hotel is absolutely fine although somewhat uphill from the city centre amenities and that could be a problem for some. On the other hand a very quit location for sleeping. There were more interesting restaurants in the Salamanca (quay side) area offering a greater variety of choice.

    3
    « Not really 4 star »

My wife and I had a 3 night stay here in late October 2015. We arrived reasonably late on a Friday night. After check in, we entered the lift lobby to be advised by a note on one of the two elevators, that it was out of order. We thought it would be fixed by early next morning and to our dismay, it was still out of order on the Monday morning we checked out so every time you wanted to use the elevator, there was a 5-10 minute wait!. There were a number of tour groups staying in the hotel over the duration of our stay which was good for business, but not so good for the guests due to this constant waiting. Our room was fine but there were no electric blankets. If it's one thing you need in Tassie, it's one of these (even though it was late October, it was still quite cool). One television in the gymnasium only had a picture but no sound. After advising the reception desk, a fairly lame effort was made to fix it, but to no avail. Some form of apology would have been appropriate, but nothing!. Best Western is an international chain of hotels and we expected better for the price they command.

« Well located, could use a refurb. »

A short 2 night stay with the girls, this property is in a great location within walking distance to salamanca, shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly and very helpful however the room could use a little maintenance, our cards didn't unlock the door and the maids had to let us in numerous times, the bathroom basin kept filling up with water after just running the tap for a short time. The beds were super comfy but the pillows a little hard. The free parking is great however after 10am you need to call reception for access to the lift however there was no answer and we were forced to walk up to the front entrance. Overall not bad for the $$.

    « Very central »

An easy walk to the Salamanca market, ferry points if you want to visit MONA or go on a cruise, and easy walk to shopping. Staff were incredibly helpful and our room was spacious and comfortable. Our exterior door was a bit rattly when the room door was opened. Bathroom a bit dated with shower over bath (all King rooms have this apparently) but clean. Room serviced daily and we got a good deal being RACV members and staying 4 nights. Brekky available in restaurant downstairs with a special deal on Sundays. One of the lifts wasn't working toward the end of our stay and the staff couldn't have been more helpful getting our luggage into the carpark for us. Parking available for an extra $10 per night.

    « Average »

This hotel is in a good location & the rooms are a good size but apart from a big bed, great tv & two nice lamps..very bare - there is no desk in the King Balcony room despite what the description says & the two uncomfortable chairs have obviously just been pulled up from the conference space. You will have to pull the tv away if you want to plug in the kettle which you will struggle to fill. The bathrooms are very small & old & the hotel supplies you with cheap toiletries like 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner. Don't expect to use the balcony, there's no view or privacy & they are very close to the road. The road noise is a real issue and the glass clearly isn't double glazed. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel to families or business travellers due to the lack of facilities and after being woken up at 2am midweek by a very loud drunken brawl in the hallway. The staff were all very lovely & the full buffet breakfast was pretty good for $22.50. This could be a great hotel but Best Western thus far have done a very half hearted job of renovating since it was a Mecure.

« Good location and friendly staff! »

Stayed 2 nights at the Best Western Bathurst St Hobart. Good location, easy to walk to most attractions including Salamanca Market, Hobart waterfront, shops and restaurants. Rooms a simple and basic (only criticism they could do with double glazing) not really a major problem as Hobart is pretty quite after midnight. The friendliness and courtesy of all the staff is a stand out! Also ate at the restaurant "Embers" which was excellent!! again the waitress was amazing.

King Balcony Double. Good marshmallow bed, pillow was hard though, nice clean room, relatively quiet for inner city, good location. The room was warm. For price feels a bit basic, bathroom shabby and old. Staff at reception were excellent.

    « NOT FOUR STAR ! »

We booked this hotel based on it being rated Four Star on all the web booking sites, but we have been disappointed that the quality of the room we have been given is not what one would expect in a four star hotel. While the positive point we have noted is that the bed was comfortable, lots of other aspects are lacking. I believe you can often judge the quality of a restaurant by the quality of its napkins, I also suspect you can be guided on the quality of a hotel based on its toilet paper! In this case the toilet paper was poor - thin and tears the wrong way. The toilet hasn't been upgraded in about 40 years, the toilet seat is about $15 in Bunnings. The shower diverter button was sticking. I reported it. A guy came and sprayed WD40 on it but the next day if stuck again. The hook was falling off the bathroom door. The door was 63cm wide (normal doors are 80-82cm). The ceiling in the room was pebble-dashed concrete - straight from the 1960s. The bath towels are so small they just about fit around me - and I'm not very big! I complained about the quality. The clerk said he would see what he could do, but nothing happened. Tonight is out last night so hopefully our next place is better.

« Best Western, Hobart Tasmania. »

In a ten day stay with the Best Western in Hobart, we were very impressed with the courtesy of the staff, the efficiency & high standard of service given, nothing was a trouble. Should we return to Hobart, we would have no hesitation in returning to the Best Western, Bathurst St. Hobart. Just an easy walk away from CBD, the Salamanca market, restaurants & coffee shops. Adventure tour companies will pick you up & return you to hotel. Double decker bus does a circle trip to points of interest. It's all there to enjoy. Edna & Fred Leech.

« Great Place to begin our tour Downunder »

After a 27 hour trip from the states we were looking for a hot shower and a sot bed in a quiet room This hotel filled the bill. Keys were waiting so we could speed to our room which was well apointed and modern. Later we discovered a contemporary bar and restuarant right on site and the beer and meals have been 4 star. Easy to recommend this plae with it's fairly central location

    « Travelling with relatives »

A very pleasant hotel, which was in a good location, wasn't so sure when we first arrived, but after an amazing meal down on the wharf, the slight stroll back was a definate must. The hotel was clean and tidy and well presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful with any needs that you required. Very good value for the money for sure.

« Clean hotel in a central location »

This hotel is pretty central and close to the markets in Hobart. As we were leaving early Sunday morning we saw them setting up just down the street from the hotel. A clean hotel with good amenities. Check in and out was a little slow with only one staff member at reception but not the end of the world. On check out we requested a taxi which was organised for us in a timely manner. Be wary of people smoking on balconies either side of the room. It's a non-smoking hotel but we found people still smoked on the balconies which wafted into our room. There was also a rude shock at 2:30am when some hotel guests returned from a night out and decided to play loud music. The walls seem to be a little thin as we could hear quite a bit of noise from other guests but besides the music, it was pretty standard. The linen was clean and the bed comfortable. On the third floor we heard little to no street noise which was nice but we were not facing the main street. We were easily able to walk to and find liquor stores, pubs, supermarkets and taxis and noticed quite a few restaurants as well. A clean and basic hotel.

« Great place in Hobart »

A great experience from the phone contact prior to arrival and during our stay. Staff at front desk, especially Luke, Olivia, John and Bron couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Room was fine with comfy beds. Bar area cosy although sad to have missed the complimentary canapés served between 5.30pm and 6.30pm each evening, despite being in the bar area by 5.45pm. Our request to see if more canapés were coming not handled well. Other than that, great value for money.

    « Loved it »

Stayed for medical appointments and for sick granddaughter in a big Hospital. Beds are very comfortable and soft. Extra blankets in the cupboard! Quiet without street noise even though we were 2nd floor facing the street. 2 balconies to our unit. Plenty of room in the fridge for our own drinks and milk. Busy line up at checkin and checkout staff were very efficient with short wait times. U/g parking with lift from carpark to the floor we stayed.

    « Good clean hotel »

The hotel has had an upgrade since I was last here in 2007. Good comfortable beds and pillows and the decor has been refreshed. Rooms are a bit noisy due to jack if double glazing and thin doors let a bit of noise from the corridor. 2 blocks from Hobart's CBD and about 6 blocks from the main cafe strip. d

« Standard five storey hotel in central location »

Normal multi storey old style hotel with balconies on most rooms (except mine) -Comfortable, clean, parking rear basement area, with lift access to the five accommodation floors. All went fine with my stay. Bar and restaurant on site with room service. Walking distance to CBD with many restaurants, bars and shops in the area. Air Con, Foxtel, Free WiFi.

    « Wasn't great »

There wasn't any one thing wrong with the best western but I definitely will not stay here again. The room was a bit dirty - grubby marks on the furniture, and the cleaner had left long hairs in the bath and the bed. The pillows are so fat you can hardly lie horizontal and I actually slept on my coat instead. But the worst thing is the street noise -there's no protection from the road noise and you should fork out the extra $50 to stay at the RACV instead, as that was fabulous.

    4
    « Relaxed and clean »

Staff were really nice and helpful. Rooms were clean, although stains on carpet could be looked into. Beds were comfy and I liked the balcony as could see the mountains. One tip would be to have a booklet in the room of what services the hotel offers as I found myself looking for that a couple of times eg menus for ordering room service or booking airport bus. Had to use my smartphone. Overall a lovely stay for my four nights.
