    « Nice Renovation »

We last stayed here in August 2015. At the time the hotel was under renovation. This time back the renovation was completed and the hotel looks great. Not sure it's worth the new higher prices I see in the high $100s (I got a much better deal through AAA). The new look is great however and it's proximity to Mohegan Sun plus free shuttle and complimentary breakfast can't be beat. The attached Flanagan's Restaurant and Dunkin' Donuts in the parking lot are bonuses. The hotel offers free coffee all day for guests and cookies in the evening. Only downside was the hostess at Flanagan's who told us happy hour was Friday and Saturday. That wasn't the case after we got the bar tab on Saturday. The hostess admitted her error but did nothing to remedy the situation.

« Good Hotel for the price »

I travel to Groton often and I always stay in this hotel because of the value. The Good: Value (money vouchers available for use in the restaurant / bar Beds are comfortable Location is great for any business in Groton or at the Subase Rooms are always quiet - never had a complaint even when near the elevator The not-so-good: Many rooms are getting outdated and worn - however, the hotel is in the process of upgrading some rooms Every time I stay here, the tub drains very slowly

    « Stopover in Groton »

Nice room with two double beds, which were nice and comfy. The hotel receptionist was extremely helpful and couldn't help us enough. The room and bathroom were clean and we had plenty of towels. Great onsite restaurant.

    « Classic BW »

A nice hotel, well located and good maintained. the area is very quiet in a small town . Very comfortable clean rooms and rich hot breakfast. Close to city's main attractions ,restaurants ,bars and shops. Excellence desk service. enjoy

« Good for the Price »

I stayed here when looking for a place to live. This is a pretty decent hotel for the price. It's close to anything you would want to do in the area, including shuttles to the two Indian Casinos nearby. The restaurant in the hotel is good too.

    3
    « Okay »

We only stayed there for the casino shuttle, shuttle driver was nice and chatty. Over priced, but we went on a Saturday night with Columbus day holiday on Monday so we were charged extra, was not worth it. The staff at hotel were okay, did not have much interaction with them.

    4
    « Not bad »

Stayed for business. Hotel is a well maintained property, not perfect but you can tell they care. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. All in all a good place to stay.

« Nice hotel, conveniently located. »

Just down the road from the Navy Submarine Base and close to the Coast Guard Academy. The place was clean, the staff friendly, and, most importantly, the bed was comfortable. Breakfast is provided by the attached restaurant through the use of a gift type card, and was good. Overall, a pleasant stay.

    « Total Transformation »

Friendly staff, new beds, new floors, much cleaner and looks better taken care of. Quite, good breakfast and the pool and spa area looks awesome. We have stayed in the past but so many good changes in the past, a new shuttle van to Mohegan and the food seemed of better quality. The check in was awesome.

    « Comfortable »

Nice hotel. Friendly staff. Got me checked in early... Nice standard room. Free wifi... Nice hotel amenities. Great shower . room comes with microwave and mini fridge... Hotel gives $25 card nightly for use at hotel... I used card for breakfast and lunch if i could make it back.. Hotel has pool and jacuzzi... Also work out room. Flanagans restaurant had friendly staff... I love this place.

    « Good value »

Slightly worn but very clean with friendly staff. Would have stayed longer if they had queen size beds instead of doubles. Did not use the pool or work out room. The vending machines were out of water but the restaurant gave us free bottled water to compensate. We enjoyed the free breakfast.

    « Not coming back »

Family of 4. Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. The 2nd night when my son woke up half of his face swelled due to an insect bite. Good thing I had antihistamine. Found an insect crawling in the bathroom also. The room we stayed in needs updating and cleaning. The bathroom was small and anti-slip strips on the bathtub were peeling. Aircon was noisy. Breakfast buffet was okay but they served the same things every morning. Pool needs to be updated also and smelled heavily of chlorine. Will not be returning and I can't recommend. Very disappointed.

    5
    « excellent quality »

This hotel has excellent staff. They are very qualified and pleasant. We will return next month with two other couples. We have all stayed here many times and were never disappointed. We wanted more towels and they were delivered within four minutes.

    2
    « Customer Service »

Although the hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable the customer service was far from enjoyable. Not a single smile, thank you, come again or any simple customer service skills were used. The staff member at check in was the least enjoyable person I have ever come in contact with. If you happen to be "welcomed" by Martini jump in your car and find another hotel! Other than her and a select few others with poor attitudes the bar and wait staff were enjoyable so if you do decide to stay after check in grab a drink and meal to make the experience more enjoyable.

    « 4th visit »

This is our 4th visit to the Best Western Olympic in Groton. The hotel is well run and has good reception staff. The bar attached (Flannigan's) is popular and always busy, but the staff are friendly and helpful. Will stay here again and recommend this hotel

    5
« Very nice stay close to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods »

First, this hotel is very convenient off Rt. 95, Groton Submarine Museum and Nautilus Submarine Tour and both the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino's. The front desk person, Angel (I believe), was very friendly and helpful, as we were "walk ins" that had specific room needs during a nearly sold out night for the hotel. From the lobby to the rooms, the hotel is extremely well kept and very clean. The rooms are fresh, clean and very quiet. You'll hear nothing from outside the room. The breakfast (included) was excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant and everything was very good, including the prices. Coffee is available 24/7 in the lobby as well as warm cookies in the afternoon. If you prefer, Dunkin Donuts is next door. Would certainly stay again.

    4
« Great Place to Stay in Groton/New London »

Whenever I travel to the area for business I stay at this hotel. The rooms are always clean. The staff is exceptionally kind and courteous. Check-in and check-out is always quick and painless. The hotel restaurant has a great menu and the meals are well prepared.

    « A very nice stay »

We stayed at the Best Western in Groton on 9-10 Sep 2016. The room we had had been updated and had a nice bathroom, good size, king size bed and a nice sitting area. The hotel room was neat and clean. They offer a free breakfast buffet in the morning in their restaurant, Flanigans. The breakfast buffet was better than some places we've been to. Overall, we had a very nice stay there and we have no complaints. I would stay there again.

    4
« Good but needs work »

I stayed here with my husband for almost 2 weeks as we just moved from Charleston SC & we're house hunting. It is a good location with lots of shops & nice restaurants close by, even having Flannagan's attached. You receive a $25 voucher every day after 1pm to use in Flannagan's that we used for breakfast, you do have to make sure you have cash all the time though for tips if you're paying with these cards. The breakfast is good but the dinner was hit & miss for me (we only had dinner twice but breakfast most mornings), they always have special's. The room was nice, big bed, sofa, desk & chair, it was clean & perfectly adequate for our mammoth stay. The only issues I had was no ice, anywhere & the A/C unit was so loid. There was coffee available in the lobby at anytime & around 3/4 in the afternoon fresh free cookies were out. Shay the receptionist who works most afternoon/evenings and checked us in was lovely, very friendly & offered lots of advice for the area. Other staff probably need to learn some customer service skills & smile a bit more. All in all a good stay.

« Nice and clean hotel »

The hotel was very nice and clean. Staff could use some help. Front desk, Marguerita, was very unhelpful and rude. Housekeeping forgot to leave towels and new coffee. It was very convenient to have free buffet breakfast. The pool was nice especially when it rained.

« Great Hotel-Best Western Olympic Inn in Groton, CT »

Very good hotel to stay at. The rooms are clean; the hotel staff are pleasant. The free breakfast meal was fresh and hot. And I loved the easy access to the highway, I will chose this hotel again and again.

    « wonderful staff »

great place to visit and we will come back thank you we did have a power brown out the day we left and the staff came to the rescue carried our bags down from the forth floor in dark stairwells but they were great thank you guys for a wonderful visit

    « Another Great Stay »

This hotel is close enough to both casinos which made it really enticing. For the price, it was the best choice for a weekend night. The hotel restaurant has a very nice breakfast buffet and it is included in the price of the room. We asked to be near an elevator and we were. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Recommend and would stay here again

    5
« Excellent choice when in Groton, CT »

The atmosphere in the Hotel is like an extended family, they always make you feel comfortable. The Hotel is situated close enough to get to the two major Casinos in the Area, Mohegan Sun and Fox Woods but far enough away so that you do not feel overwhelmed with crowds.

    4
« Nice Hotel in Groton »

The Best Western Olympic Inn had a very comfortable king bed and clean room. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. It is a very convenient location near the US Navy Force Submarine Base and Museum. The only drawback was the poor quality breakfast.

    4
    « Quick overnight stay »

Hotel staff were great. Pool was a little dingy, but kids still were in. The shuttle is amazing to the casino! Carlos, you da man! Restaurant for breakfast (free) great. Good place would stay again. The bed comforter had something on it like a stain. Other then that the room was comfy. Water pressure could have been better

    5
    « Little Gem »

I stayed here one night while attending my grandson baseball tournament. The room ( accessible) was clean had two queen beds, refrigerator, microwave, large tv. Bathroom had hairdryer, iron board.Hotel staff very pleasant and knowledgeable. They have a pool indoors, a Jacuzzi indoors, business centre plenty of parking. Hotel is less than 1 mile off of I95. I took the ferry to new London and hotel is a five minute drive away. Price was affordable. Will stay here again.

    5
    « N/A »

The hotel has good amenities. It provides free shuttle to and from Mohegan Sun Casino. There is a nearby gas station and Dunkin Donut. The restaurant also has good service and very accessible to the hotel guests.

    « C- and being generous »

All the hotels within 100 mi were booked if over $200 night. This one I found, so I was thankful. Great military price. However, 1982 called and is asking for a renovation immediately. It smells of old cigarette smoke in the hallways. The room was about 1/2 as strong. But the cigarette burn on the blanket and on the wallpaper was leading me to believe this place hasn't been updated in MANY years, despite the fact it was a nonsmoking room. Clean enough, but beyond dated. Had a flat screen tv, very very POOOOOR wifi (I could never connect to), a microwave and fridge. Sheets were clean as well as the bathroom. Don't recommend but I've been in far worse so it won't kill you for a night.

    3
« This place is in it's decline... »

Read through, the compliments are at the end of my review. It is definitely showing it's age as things are looking old and grimy. My husband's comment was "They look like they're getting ready to sell." The rugs could use a good cleaning and housekeeping could look around the rooms a bit more when cleaning. We found an old sock next to the fridge. The binder you get with the room should be updated reflecting changes and adding in a TV guide listing. The pool and hot tub area are old and questionable in cleanliness. That said, we will go back again because the price is right. It is pretty close to Mohegan Sun and they have a weekend shuttle. The free hot breakfast is only pretty good but the staff there is super. The restaurant itself also offers dinner and the options are good. Rooms have fridge and micro which are handy. The bathrooms a nice although I couldn't get the water to go down the drain until I completely pulled out the stopper. It is a familiar place and we didn't find any deal breakers (yet.)

« breach in personal security and Switch and Bate check out »

Parents, Cadets and Family members of the Coast Guard Academy Please Please Please Do NOT STAY at this HOTEL Do not stay at this hotel as a goverment or at any other rate. My personal security was compromised. My credit card was over charged. We were promised breakfast only to be harassed about receiving breakfast ticket for more than one person on the room. I tried so hard to overlook all of the physical because of the goverment rate , i should have and would have left had my credit card not been overcharged. Parents of Coast Guard Academy participants PLEASE do not allow your child to stay here. It was the worst experience my daughter has ever experienced. She wanted to leave but we could not because the receptionist overcharged my credit card by three time the 3 day cost. At the day of check out she also tried to switch the daily rate. therefore would have been to inconvenient to do so. We were treated very badly and trust me the complaint will not stop here. Again Parents, Cadets and family members of the Coast Guard Academy Do NOT STAY at this HOTEL

« Little dated, but very clean, a lot to offer »

Very easily found from Rt 95 in Groton--on Rt 12--in an area strewn with restaurants, gas stations, and shopping. This motel is/was probably dedicated to the occupants of the nearby Sub Base, but offers a wide range of pricing for business, government, and private guests. Be aware that guest registration (not generally visible) is located on the right side, with inadequate parking. We arrived about 8 pm, and were able to secure a room with a king bed at senior pricing. Front desk personnel were friendly. Plan on a mild walk to access rooms on 4 stories. Our room was nicely laid out, not boxy, but had all home conveniences (iron, board, microwave, coffee pot, 23" tv, hairdryer). There was also a long couch and desk and adequate clothes storage for two. The king bed was comfortable, with a series of five "small" pillows neatly arranged (bring your own if you like "body" pillows). We slept very well... Bathroom was great, showers hot, plenty of towels, and other soaps/shampoos (I always hate it though, when the shower head is at my chin level at 5'+). No noises, quiet throughout during our stay. Numerous restaurants of ALL kinds abound in the area ($ to $$$). Variety of shopping outlets and personal services very close by ($ to $$$$$). However, they DO offer discounts for "Flanagans"--an in-house restaurant on their first floor behind the front desk-- offering (for free) a very basic breakfast, consisting of eggs, light & crispy bacon, sausage patties (a little dry), french toast, and s.o.s. All were tepid, could be hotter. Dee, the server, was a most welcome host with a big sunny smile. She made things very easy, with breakfast a great beginning to one's day--she is truly happy to see you--I would like to "can" that smile and sell it everywhere. We did not try their dinner menu, but the parlor was not packed when we arrived (limited seating regardless). The ambiance is dark but beckoning. Here's where it goes slightly downhill, mostly on the ground floor with entry at the hotel rear: You can figure anything related to water needs to be seriously updated. This includes the restrooms, pool, and smaller water jet pool. The men's room had holes, torn wallpaper, and rusted doors--not sure about the ladies room. In short, if a room has a water pipe going through it, it needs upgrading. There is no gift shop for newspapers and toiletries, or local knick-knacks--go to Walmart nearby. Other positives include an 8-10 person conference room, small couches and tables throughout, and business center (across from front desk) with two tables and computer setups--great for small and private meetings. Excellent wifi access. Rear parking is well-lit at night, ample # of spaces.

« A good deal and not a bad place to stay. »

The common areas of the Hotel (lobby, elevators, downstairs sitting area, gym and pool) were all in very good condition and with quite a few modern updates including some new gym equipment and fresh paint in the pool area. I was greeted daily by very friendly staff who were always smiling and a quickly able to assist with any questions or requests. Over my week long stay I ate at the restaurant bar every single night where the food was good and the service even better. Appetizers are half off before 6 pm and they have multiple beers on tap including local craft beers (although two were unavailable after my first night). Pretty much anything else you could want that wasn't on tap was available in bottles. The menu offered a wide range of choices, consisting of typical American offerings with a few interesting twists. I did go to breakfast twice (free for hotel guests) on the mornings when I didn't just get a coffee at Dunkin (in the same parking lot) and found the overall quality was very good and offered multiple choices. Again the service was excellent and my waitress even brewed and made ice coffee to order. The rooms were just ok. The bathroom had recently replaced counter tops and were over all clean, but could use some updating. The vent fan / heater was pretty run down / dirty and the walls above the shower showed signs of water damage. I stayed in a room with a King size bed which was incredibly comfortable with plenty of pillows. There was also a good desk, two seat couch, refrigerator, and TV. The A/C worked very well and kept the room comfortable. There weren't many available outlets that I saw, but I didn't need all of the 6 lights in the room, so I used those outlets instead. A specific noticeable benefit was how fast the WIFI was and that each room offered its own internet modem. I also want to take a moment to thank and point out the commitment of the owner and hotel staff to members of the military. In addition, this hotel offers a military discount as well as $25 of "fun money" per night that can be used for food/drink at the restaurant for those staying on the discounted "government rate". The location of the hotel was also in good proximity to the Navy Base, Foxwoods, Mohegan, submarine museum, Mystic, and the airport. I would without a doubt return to this location for future trips to the Groton/New London area. The updates are great and noticeable improvements and I hope they are continued.

    3
    « Improvement needed »

Minor improvement needed but good stay, Great front desk staff. Staff could not be more helpful... Room maid service needs to be greatly improved, we had no maid service the 4 days we stayed, even after bringing it up to staff.......We saw them but they never cleaned our room. Breakfast needs to be improved. Quiet area

    3
    « needs updating »

hotel out of date needs serious upgrading. There were many welfare types of people hanging around drinking, intoxicated and some smoking drugs in their rooms. On a good note the staff was very attentive to the needs of customers.

    4
« Great hotel in Groton »

The hotel was convenietly located to Groton and New London. The room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was good. I would stay here again. The hotel was good for a family trip as we had 2 rooms with an adjoining door.

    5
    « Excellent stay! »

Would definately stay here again....very clean, very friendly! Not far from Mystic and Casinos, shuttle to casino on weekends. Heard they are working on updating but everything was great and beds comfortable. Dunkins and restaurant right there. Indoor pool was clean but had to ask for towels upstairs and not many chairs....nothing very special. Breakfast was fine. Staff willing to help in any way at any time!

    2
    « Shabby at best »

The staff are very pleasant and ready to help. The first room we tried had a very bad smell. The second room has pealing wallpaper the Formica around the sink is separating. This hotel is in need of updates big time. The beds are clean but the walls have scuff marks and the ceiling has things hanging from it, we will not stay another night. I am wondering where the people that gave this place a 4 star we're staying because it was not here.....

    4
    « Nice place »

Very clean hotel and room staff was very polite. Also got a free complimentary breakfast for my family. location near plenty of restaurants and events also only 25 minutes from foxwood casino would definitely say here again...

    3
« not a bad place at all, not my style, but comfortable »

First, this is not a hotel I would ever stay at by choice, so take my review as you see fit. staff, most seemed friendly, a couple were decent, but kind of sticks in the mud so to speak. the rooms were decent and clean. the towels left a lot to be desired. the housekeeping made the bed, took out the garbage and that was it, no attempt to actually clean and organize. Pros; clean room mostly friendly staff somewhere to sleep cons: no mini bar no convenience store on site typical best western ( middle of the road accommodations)

  • 3
    « Its pretty decent »

Its not a bad hotel and its in a decent location not far from route 95 and close to foxwoods and mohegan. The free breakfast wasnt good at all but they have a pool ,sauna and gym.It was reasonbly priced considering it was a really busy 4th of july weekend..

    2
    « Don't bother »

I'll start with the good part. The beds are very comfortable, plenty pillows. Bathroom has basic amenities, also there's a small fridge (you have to bend down to floor to get to it) and microwave and coffeemaker. The bad news: whirlpool was broken and the door to swimming pool, which is supposed to be locked and open with room key card, was broken and left ajar for people to enter pool at anytime, not a secure feeling. Plus, they have big windows in swim pool area so that anyone walking by outside can see in. Back door isn't locked - people can walk in but there's a security camera supposedly set up there to monitor people. Desk personnel not the friendliest or knowledgeable or helpful. Slight snafu with my expedia booking - I didn't know expedia takes my payment and then THEY pay hotel but all worked out. There's a nice restaurant on premises...Flanagans, open all day. Breakfast buffet is limited and uses an "egg mix" for scrambled eggs. If you want to order a real, freshly made to order breakfast, you have to pay for it, otherwise, the buffet is included in room price. Hotel is ok but I don't get the feeling of hospitality from them and I would not recommend this place for people to stay in, unless you just want a roof over your head. This is a hick small town. You're better off staying in Mystic or New London - more choice of eateries and good hotels.

    3
    « Not what I remembered »

I had stayed here several years ago and it seemed much better then, especially the breakfast. For a meal served in a "restaurant", I would expect better than powdered eggs and microwave bacon and sausage. Also, it did not feel safe. Both nights of my stay when I cam in late at night there was no one at the front desk - the place seemed deserted. And, my room was not cleaned, even though I left the room about 9:30 AM, certainly early enough for service. There are better hotels in the area with similar pricing.

    4
« Good place to stay »

Well run hotel, a little shop worn from use, but clean, safe, and not too far from local activities. Breakfast offering a little skimpy on the variety, as we have seen much more extensive breakfasts at other Best Westerns

    4
    « Exceptional Staff »

Nice hotel for a weekend getaway. Staff is so wonderful and friendly they really make this hotel a perfect place for a getaway. Breakfast was great and everything you could ask for. Restaurant and Bar very nice as well. Beds were super comfortable. Rooms have microwave, fridge, and hair dryers.

    5
« Great Stay for a great price »

I was a little leary about the reviews for this hotel but figured we would try it anyway. I am soooo glad we did. From the time we walked in the door we were greeted by friendly and courteous people. The restaurant that is in the hotel also had an excellent staff that worked for them. They were not only helpful with food but the waitresses were great at guiding us on the directions for our activities. Hotel was very clean, the rooms were also very clean. Bathroom may be a little outdated but it was still very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

    4
    « pleasant stay »

My husband and I enjoyed our visit. We had a king size bed which was very comfortable. Loved the fact that there is a restaurant on the premises and a 24hr Dunkin' Donuts right outside the front door. The only complaint would be the shower didn't drain properly.

great location, hot buffet breakfast included, free easy parking, free shuttle to and from Mohegan Sun casino, great staff, from front desk, maid service, waitresses, bartenders, very friendly and nice, always welcoming

    « In Groton for a wedding »

A really nice and not a fancy hotel. Everything worked well. It's a nice family place that is not expensive but hardly a "roadside" place that caters to those who are looking for the inexpensive places. Nice breakfast downstairs every morning.

« Not the best Best Western »

Not really happy with this Best Western. The room had a very odd layout and the bathroom was designed for a very short person. On the web, it is stated that this hotel has a free breakfast and there was not a free breakfast. Walking down the hallways you could tell that a lot of people were smoking in their rooms. Entrance to the hotel is off to the side and the parking options are terrible. Good location for access to the highway and local attractions, but the hotel needs a major do-over.

    3
    « Fringe benefits outweigh potential trip-killers. »

To start with, I would recommend this hotel for their "play money" system, where they award guests a $25 voucher daily to use at Flanagan's Bar and Grill, which is found just off the lobby. The bar staff, specifically Cindy, Dee, and Lisa, make the visit to this restaurant worthwhile. Conservatively, the fare is average (like an Applebee's) but exceeds expectation with service and portion sizes. The facility itself is a 6/10, with pool/jacuzzi work taking place over multiple days of my stay. Also, smoking was permitted on the 2nd floor within the last year, so try to avoid this floor if that bothers you. Amenities within rooms are outdated and in disrepair (broken outlets, leaky toilets, clogged showers) and the whole facility creaks during windstorms as heard from the 4th floor. If you can look past the facility portion and utilize the hotel for what it is (a sleeping quarters), there is a great value in it. Otherwise, there are likely some better options in the greater Groton area to stay.

    4
« Great Hotel, Great Value and perks »

This was our second stay at this hotel and the primary reason for staying again was the hotel bar and restaurant and the breakfast that was included! Also, the convenience of the shuttle to Mohegan Sun. The staff in all areas were great. The beds were comfortable and the hotel also had a pool and fitness room which we didn't have time to use, but we love that we could have if time allowed.

« Pleasant Stay in Groton, CN »

Overall, this Hotel was very good. Just down the street is the Submarine Museum containg the first Nuvlear Submarine, the first Nuclear submarin, The Nautilus The public is allowed inside the sub and it was a really enjoyable experience to see how the sailors, defending our country live and function on a submarine.

We have stayed here before and had no problems. We were disappointed in the services this time since they never came to clean our rooms and we had to go to the front desk to get clean towels. They were short staffed! When I mentioned the problem to the Front Desk employee she told me they were fully booked and only had 6 housekeepers. If they knew they were going to be fully booked they should have gad adequate staff to take care of their guests.

Best Western is the best place to stay..There are many nearby attraction.. Went to Mohegan Sun to watch CT Sun played at Mohegan Sun Arena and went to Foxwoods, and went to see some of my families member. Will stay at Olympic Inn, Groton again.

« Which Way Do We Go?... »

I've never been to a hotel that left me feeling this unsure of how to rate it. It's in a great location and clean, but has so many repair issues in the room (I've read several reviews that mention the sagging bathroom counters alone). We want to like this hotel. It feels like there's so much potential to be better. But in the end, I guess even Best Western agrees, as it is not a Premier (which in truth has brutally high standards), or even a Plus. I think they could be a Plus with some work (and probably a lot of money, which could be the problem). I'll break it down like this: PROS: - Our room was impeccably clean. - Grounds and hallways were very clean too. They clearly have an excellent housekeeping staff. - Very comfortable bed - Great location and centrally located to numerous area attractions - Breakfast buffet staff were friendly and attentive (though the buffet needs closer attention) - Pool and hot tub area look inviting (though we did not use them) CONS: - NO security lock or key card entry at the back entrance - ANYONE could walk in. This is the biggest and most important negative and needs to be addressed, for the safety of the guests and hotel staff. - Several of the towel holders are crooked or appear to be falling of the wall - Bathroom sink counter was warped/crooked as was the faucet. - The toilet rocked to one side when seated - The fire safety/sprinkler above the bathroom entry was partly disassembled - The refrigerator is up on a counter top without any slip-resistant footing. When you try to open the refrigerator door, the whole unit starts sliding off the counter. - Broken tile(s) in hot tub area. - Rust on P.O. plug in basin sink. - Some of the food at the breakfast buffet were heated to a dry, thin, inedible condition. - Restaurant floor was unusually sticky but didn't appear dirty. - The front desk check-in was uneventful and a little unusual. We are Diamond Level members and usually receive some acknowledgment for being so. At other BW hotels, we've been given anything from a bottle of water to a filled gift bag, and always a "thank you" for being brand-loyal (the "thank you" is always sufficient - the rest is just a bonus). The two young ladies at the desk processed us efficiently, but had little interest in us as a guest. This may not be their fault and may be more of a training issue. Also, when giving back someone's credit card, you either hand it to them or place it in front of them. The young lady placed my credit card off two feet to left of me without looking. I was distracted at the moment and my wife pointed out that my credit card was "over there". Otherwise I wouldn't have known it was there. All in all, other than the rear entrance, most of these items just give a poor impression but are not necessarily deal breakers. I'm giving the hotel 3 stars this time, and another chance. Our next visit will determine if it goes to 4 stars or 2.

Not much more to say that I haven't said in previous reviews The place is great !! If you want piece and quiet with good food and friendly people go here . I come here when I need a break and just want to relax

    « Ok, it had a bed! »

Kinda nasty, the fridge was unplugged and I'm not even sure it would work. Same for the coffee pot. Bathroom counter was tiny and warped. Sheets were paper thin, bedspread very thin also. Oh, and two containers of conditioner and no shampoo.

    « Needs Refreshing »

This hotel was not up to what we have come to expect for BW properties. While the only thing that was really wrong was no fan in the bathroom, the whole place was well worn and tired. The beds were very comfortable, though.

« Okay place to stay »

My husband and I made an impromptu trip to CT for the weekend. We chose this hotel because of its location and fairly reasonable price for the area. Although the bathroom could be considered outdated, the room was clean. The beds were quite comfortable. There was one thing that spoiled our satisfaction, however. Our bedcover/quilt had two large cigarette burns in it - very obvious. Immediately after checking in, I went back down to the front desk and told the attendant about it. Her response was that the hotel was a smoking hotel until about 4 months ago, and that there were still signs of smoking around. She did not offer to do anything about it. The next day, when we were checking out and asked how our stay was, I again complained about the bedcover. The attendant on duty was very apologetic - much more in tune to customer service. The hotel had a shuttle to the Mohegan Sun, which we took advantage of. The drivers were very professsional and prompt. Some of the other passengers were way too loud and profane (weekend party?), but that was no fault of the drivers. The hot breakfast buffet was enjoyable. There was no wait, and it was a very efficient process. We also ate dinner in the restaurant. The waiter was attentive, and the food was delicious. All in all, I liked this hotel. I just wish I had not seen the burned bedcover.

« Convenient to the Casinos »

The hotel is located close to the two casinos in the area. It offers a shuttle to Mohegan Sun Casino. You do have to register for it and only costs a dollar each way. Breakfast is included at the hotel at the restaurant attached to the hotel. The staff is friendly. I have been there 4 of the past 5 years around the same time. The rooms are basic with small refrigerator and microwave in each room. It is not far from a shopping center and there is a movie theatre and bowling alley not far from the hotel and other tourist attractions. I would recommend it if you are in the area and would like to stay somewhere that is not to expensive.

« Great Place to stay! »

This Best Western was great. The main reason we chose it was because it has a shuttle service to Mohegan Sun. The shuttle was on time both leaving and picking us up. The employees were all great, room was clean and comfortable, and the bed was very comfortable. Very satisfied! Will definitely go back.

« Overnight stay. Nice hotel. »

Very friendly courteous staff. Great hot breakfast buffet. Free shuttle on Fridays and Saturdays to Mohegan Sun Casino, which is a super amenity. Clean and comfortable. Nice indoor pool and hot tub. Even though the hotel was full there was ample free parking.

I run a small business and when I need to get away and relax this is the place. Always clean and comfortable with great food and cold beer , served by happy friendly people who are happy to be there. Highly recommended !!!

    « Clean but noisy »

Hotel was fairly well maintained and convenient but walls are thin and noise was a big problem. Plumbing made lots of noise making a good nights sleep difficult. Air conditioner was noisy and thermostat dos not Control the heat very well. No towels. In pool area and no security on exterior doors leading into the hotel. Pillows were hard so if you prefer a soft pillow bring your own. Breakfast was basic.

    « Cleanest clean I ever saw!!! »

My room was amazing my Jacuzzi was much needed used it 3 times in 24 hours!!bed was heavenly perfect in every way!!!!!! I slept like a baby got my rest and was ready to come back to work smilingll The best hotel ever!

    « Good Hotel »

Service is great. The hotel is a little older and it is showing some wear and tear, but everything seems clean and working properly. If you are a Government Worker or Military Member, this is the hotel to stay at while in Groton. The Government / Military rates include "play money" that can be used in the restaurant for any meal and drinks (with the exception of the tip.). That alone makes the stay here much cheaper than anywhere else in the area.

    4
    « great weekend getaway »

I like to read reviews, so I figured I would give a good one. This hotel was perfect for a couple of friends to go away for the weekend. The shuttle to the casino was great so no one would have to drive. Only 15 minutes on the shuttle. The room was great, with refrigerator, microwave, internet and great shampoo/conditioner for the shower. Nice shower, large bathroom. Bed was comfortable and pillows were good. Warm cookies at 5:00 was a treat and there was coffee available at all times. Flanagans is in the hotel and was great. There is also a wonderful restaurant across the street. Can't complain about anything really.

    « Foxwoods Trip »

This motel is close to Foxwoods Casino and Mohegan Casino . Clean, quiet and Comfortable. Price is good too. We have stayed here a couple times too. Restaurant and Dunkin Donuts on premises. They breakfast, juice and coffee are FREE and good.

    « Good hotel »

Every time we stay at this hotel we have a good experience. I like that there is a shuttle that goes to Mohegan Sun. All the employees are always nice and friendly. I exspecially loved the strawberry daquri I had at the hotel bar. The room we had was clean but is showing wear. Even though the hotel is suppose to be smoke free, we could smell cigarette smoke in the hallways. We always recommend this hotel to family and friends.

    3
« The staff are absolutely wonderful! »

We arrived for a one night stay and were given a room on the second floor. When we stepped off the elevator, the halls smelled of cigarette smoke. As we walked to the end of the hall, the smell dissipated, but upon opening the door to the room it reeked of cigarette smoke. We returned to the lobby to very apologetic staff member who gave us another room. During our interaction with the lobby staff, another staff member arrived (a manager I assume) and directed the lobby staff to give us a room on the 4th floor as those rooms had all been renovated. There were no rooms available on the 4th floor, so we were put in room 135, just off the lobby. Our room was well appointed and very clean, but could stand some updating. The sheer curtain had tears in it and so did the fabric on one of the chairs. While the room was in need of renovations, it was very nice to be in a bathroom with a fan! Other than the need for a new sheer curtain and some stitching on the chair, it was obvious to me that this establishment has been very well cared for over the years. It was very clean, there was no mold or mildew in the bathroom, the linens were new and the bed was comfortable. While I was not in a newly renovated room, I would definitely stay here again anytime I was traveling in this area. The staff was wonderful, welcoming, and very helpful. The room was older, but well cared for over the years and very clean.

    « A Great Place to Stay! »

The rooms are clean and nicely equipped. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating, and made us feel comfortable and welcome. We really enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub! This is our go-to hotel when we are in the area.

« Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff. Don't miss this one! »

This is certainly one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. The rooms are clean and neat, the beds are very comfortable, and the staff are friendly and cheerful. I have seldom seen a better maintained hotel. It is very close to the Submarine Museum and the Sub Base, and only a few miles from the lovely old seaside town of Mystic. We will certainly return.

    « Great hotel! »

Loved Best Western, Groton, CT. Though the wifi was down when I arrived, maintenance came and provided me with an ethernet cord to use temporarily. The staff was helpful and friendly. The owners are often on premises and very personable. The bed was more comfortable than average, for a hotel in this price range.

    4
    « A Wonderful Weekend »

We attended a conference with families from many places. The front desk worked with efficiency and smiles. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The conference room was large enough to sit one hundred and ten of us comfortably. The bar was filled with lots of locals and really good service. The indoor pool was warm and really enjoyable. (The weather outdoors was cold.) This was a really nice little getaway.

« Nice hotel but needs some upgrading »

Hotel is good but the rooms need some upgrading ie, heating system, toilet to comfort hieght, television needs to be mounted on wall for better viewing while laying in bed, other then that hotel is clean, friendly and quiet

    « Valentines Getaway »

Enjoyed our stay, it was a bit more then I wanted to pay, but being Valentines Weekend I guess you should expect that. They have the free shuttle to Mohegan Sun on the weekends which is nice. There are plenty of places in the area to go to eat/drink/shop etc... Close to the highway.

    5
    « Getaway »

This is not the first time we stayed here. We enjoy having the restaurant attached to hotel. I had a burger, excellent, and my friend had fish and chips, also excellent. Breakfast buffet is served in the restaurant also and was very good. We like having the shuttle service to Mohegan but I would recommend making reservations at the desk, not calling the number on the schedule as we were there 10 minutes early and the driver didn't come inside and we missed the shuttle. We were waiting inside as it was brutally cold outside. It all worked out in the end. I would recommend this hotel, beds were comfy, the room very clean and the food was great!

    3
« Bathroom needs lots of work »

Actually I'm still here. Bathroom needs lots of work. Counter top is not level and there is no space on it for more than a toothbrush. Shower and ceilings look dirty can use a remodel. Beds are comfortable, staff is really nice. Restaurant attached to hotel is great. Free WiFi is a laugh. Since we've been here I've only been able to connect to it once then got booted off again and haven't been able to connect since. Was told by one of the staff that it's a crap shoot sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Was gone must of today got back and housekeeping never came and made up the room. I'm ok with that but still would've been nice. Even though it's not the most updated hotel I would stay here again. It's fine for a night or two.

    « Very good place »

I have stayed here a few times and I have never had an issue. The rooms are clean and very roomy. The beds were huge and very comfy. Absolutely worth the money and its close to the casino. Anyone that needs a room that is by the casino should look into staying in this hotel.

    4
    « Quiet and Clean »

Nice little hotel it's quiet, clean, has a restaurant, and has free breakfast. Staff at the front desk and the bar are very nice always smiling and the the best part for me is they have a well equipped gym, the treadmill and the elliptical were both in good condition and the had actual Dumbbells!

« Worst hotel experience ever »

No shuttle even though they advertised AND I called to ask and they said they did. A nonsmoking room smelled like an ashtray made all my clothes smell, very uncomfortable to stay in, not a friendly/helpful staff at all!!! My friends head board fell as she got in the bed could have really hurt her thank god it didn't. We went down to the lobby to tell them so I wouldn't be charged and there was NO ONE to be found, waited a half hour. Walked around, call the front desk, rang the bell, yelled for someone NO ONE was there. What if it had been an emergency?? Such a bad experience I'll never stay at a best western ever again. And I will not recommended to anyone!!! I left as soon as the sun came up, did not even want to try their free breakfast. Waste of my money!!!!!

« Decent hotel, doesn't meet expectations of price point. »

The hotel is okay. It needs basic repairs and upgrades to the little details like bedspreads, bathroom vanities etc. The room was cold when we arrived and the AC had no fan mode so i couldn't use it when i went to bed or the room would have gotten even colder. I wanted an extra blanket for the bed as the one on there wasn't very thick and i don't ever use the bedspreads because I assume they are dirty, but there was no extra blanket or pillow as is usually seen in the hotel room. Called the front desk to ask for some and the phone rang at least 10 times with no answer. That said, the hotel is not that bad. It was a clean room, comfortable bed, free breakfast buffet (not super great but i left full). The attached restaurant and bar has a very nice staff and the burger i had was great. It does have a shuttle to Mohegan but it's a solid 20 minute ride, I would have preferred to stay closer. So i guess to sum it up, it's a decent hotel that just doesn't seem to meet my expectations when spending 140+ dollars.

    « Fine stay! »

We were there for two nights and had a great time! We had very good service, the room was clean, you can't beat the weekend service to Mohegan Sun. It is very close to Mystic Seaport as well. Fine stay and will stay again.

    « never again »

We where given a room with a hadicap bathroom with a special mirror at the vanity that made it difficult use. No stoarge are at all in the bathroom and we had a non smoking room with a bedspread that had a burn in it! odor of smokeing in the corridor and in the room at timnes

    3
« In Need Of Repairs »

First I was notified that this hotel requires a pre-pay for New Years eve which I never encountered with a Best Western. Since we had to pre-pay there was a problem when we submitted a voucher from Best Western for $25.00 that still has not been credited to my credit card. Our bathroom had mold on the walls, sink counter was falling off the wall, the toilet did not work properly, the blow dryer was broken, cigarette burns on our comforter. They try and we have stayed in some nicer rooms, got the short stick this time. The breakfast is good and the restaurant is nice and staff very friendly.

    5
« Excellent for the price »

The staff was very helpful. The hotel was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Shuttle to Mohegan Sun was a huge plus. Had a Great time at Flanagan"s to welcome in the New Year. Lots to do in the area.

« Convenient Overnight in Groton CT »

We spent a good overnight at the Olympic Inn in Groton CT. The hotel is right off a busy highway and its entrance is a bit difficult to figure out at first, but there's adequate parking. The staff is friendly and helpful, amenities good, internet is fast and reliable. Breakfast was typical BW buffet despite being in the hotel restaurant, which was disappointing, compared to other BW motels with adjoining restaurants

    5
    « Nice hotel »

Very comfortable bed! That is so important for me! Great location, very clean, nice décor. Did not have time to enjoy but hotel had a pool and exercise room. Our main destination were the casinos. The front desk clerk provided us with directions which were very easy to follow, and the casinos were a very easy and close drive from the hotel

  • 4
    « Comfortable Beds »

The hotel is minutes from New London Ferry. If you're going to the casinos, the hotel is conveniently located between Foxwoods and Mohegan. This is especially convenient on the weekends when the casinos over charge for their hotels. The bed was so comfortable I wish I could have taken it home with me. Bathroom was small but great shower. During my stay the hotel offered a free breakfast buffet. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, pastries, cereal, juice fruit, etc. Good value. I have recommended this hotel to friends and family.

    5
    « Weekend stay »

I come to Connecticut several times a year to visit family. This is my first time staying at this hotel and I would highly recommend it. Very friendly clerk named Madeline. « Best Western Olympic »

Hotel is centrally located in regards to Groton / Mystic areas. Hotel is clean the lounge is great w/ reasonable costs, the restaurant is excellent with reasonable costs and good food, close to he casinos, close to mystic, I stay here every time I am in this area based on if I want to chill at the hotel food and drinks are at arms length, the pool and hot tub are great. The rooms are showing a little wear and tear, the bathrooms are showing some signs of distress, everything in working order and clean, so I am one happy camper.....

« Good Stay for 1-2 Nights at Reasonable Rates »

Best Western Hotels vary from great to terrible and this is clearly one of the better locations. The rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable, the bed was comfortable, but the towels and bath amenities could be better - all in all, about what you would expect from a Best Western so no surprises here. The restaurant was good and the staff was very friendly. For a few nights in the area, this is an okay place to stay and the prices are very reasonable for the area.

    3
« Food and bar was great »

The rooms still need more work with the smell of smoke. The location was good for us and I was glad they had a shuttle to Mohegan sun for free which was very important to us. We were able to hit all the spots we go to easily from there , Foxwoods and mystic village and Nordic lodge. If they do something about the smoke smell I would no hesitate to go there. I only give the rooms average due to the smell of smoke, they were clean.

    4
« Good stay for the money »

I have never had a bad stay at this hotel. The food is great and the bar usually has a good atmosphere. The rooms don't have the most aesthetically pleasing décor, but very functional and great for the money spent.

    4
    « Delivered as promised »

The service and comfort were what you'd expect from Best Western. The front desk people were very friendly and the service and food at the attached restaurant were both top notch. Will certainly stay there again when in the area.

    3
    « Good Value »

The hotel itself is obviously a little bit older, but is still very serviceable. Everything in the room worked, but some of the bells and whistles are getting worn. The beds are all new, and they are extremely comfortable and the rooms always seem to be quiet. The hotel also offers extra specials in the bar / restaurant if you are traveling under as a Military or Government worker (as I was.) Overall, a good place to crash out after a long day at work.

    « A home-like place to stay »

We have enjoyed two week-long stays here in recent months. Both visits went very well. We recommend it. It is VERY clean, comfortable, and well managed. We will stay there again. We especially like the free breakfast in the restaurant. It's good. We like a good, hot breakfast and we also like the yogurt and fruit that accompanies delicious eggs, home fries, bacon and sausage. We never go out for breakfast thanks to the good food there. My wife enjoys the coffee and she is quite particular about her coffee. I drink iced tea there. Overall, I recommend this place.

    3
« Close to Casinos, Comfortable for a night, Right price, Needs Upating »

We chose this hotel for a family weekend trip to the local CT casinos. The hotel is just adequate. The value is in the location, being right off the highway and super close to good restaurants, Mystic, and the Mohegun sun and Foxwoods casinos. The facilities need to be updated, and some areas smelt of smoke, but for a few hours rest and a central location it was a good place to rest our heads. We booked through a third party booking site, and the price was great. I would stay again for future casino/CT trips but wouldn't suggest for a romantic or special get away. Stay at the casinos for that! Simple continental breakfast was a nice added bonus, but I do wish we went out to breakfast and had a heartier meal!

    4
    « Great Service & Location »

We enjoyed cocktails and apps in the bar before hoping in a free shuttle to Mohegan Sun. The rooms are clean and the hotel is very nice considering its age. There is a heated swimming pool and a nice work out area. The carpeting has been ripped out and wood floor was put in, looks nice.

« Good hotel, great staff »

Hotel is conveniently located off I-95 and route 12, after a long drive it was nice to be able to rest and have a good night sleep. Clean, comfortable room and the hotel is well kept. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful.

    « good night »

The hotel was good for the night stay I would stay again if in that part of town. The room was pretty good the bathroom was very outdated. The fan in the bathroom made a lot of noise when you turned on the light. Just update the bathrooms and everything would be great.

    « Best Western Convenience »

Travelling to NYC for my 30th College Reunion, I wanted to stay at a Best Western. With many to choose from that were convenient to my school, I couldn't decide which one had the best location. I decided to stay in Queens. With a change in itinerary, I had to change to the one in Groton. After a long day of travel (in the rain), I was happy to check into this one later that evening. Slept well and was greeted by a good breakfast. Hope go make it back to this one so that I can check out the area more thoroughly.

    « Good hotel »

We stayed here for a wedding nearby. Room was spacious with a couch and desk and night table. Bed was really comfortable. They said in their ad the mattress were all new and it definitely felt it. Room Smelled musty at first but after the ac ran awhile it was fine. An alcove was a bit crowded with a coffee maker, microwave, and small fridge. Perfect if you would be staying for a few days, tho. The accommodation had everything you would need. It was very clean. The breakfast was included with the room in the on site restaurant, but we did not eat there. The hotel was about 25 minutes from Foxwoods on winding back road. ( at least the way we went)! Definitely worth looking into if in the Groton area!!

    « Girls Weekend »

My cousin and I stayed here this past weekend for our Girls' Weekend. The hotel staff was friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. The breakfast buffet was tasty and plentiful. The room was clean, well-kept and nicely appointed. The hot tub was wonderfully relaxing, but the pool was not heated despite being an indoor pool. We also had to bring our room towels down to the pool as there were not available there. The location was great - close to the Submarine Base, shopping, restaurants and the casinos are just 6-10 miles up the road depending on which one you go to. It is right off the highway so easy to find. It was a great value for the money. I highly recommend staying here.

    « Works for me »

visiting the New England states, we decided we would be in Groton about dinner time, we decided to look at the listings for hotels. Found them ranging in a huge price range from $200 to about $50, and so we decided to go middle ground with good previous recommendations. This Best Western was just absolutely fine for our purpose allowing us a nice free breakfast in the morning and immediately get our way to local destinations to visit. Rooms are about standard size for Best Western, there is a acceptable restaurant on the premise and a 24-hour Dunkin donut in front for munchies. It is easy off and on Interstate 95 and on the same road as the US submarine base.

Another great stay at a Best Western! Staff was the most helpful I've ever experienced - made several phone calls to restaurants in area to see if they deliver as we wanted to eat in room after driving all day. Rooms were very clean, comfortable beds & great hot breakfast. Unfortunately we were too tired to take advantage of the indoor pool but will do so next time.
