    « Our holiday »

Awesome place to stay! First holiday in a long time, unfortunately, one of us got sick, cutting into our time only to share with the other as the first got better. Staff were very helpful and supportive, the restaurant was a delight, parking was close and the king size bed was extremely comfortable. Central to everything, and easy to find. We will go back again to do the things we planned before we got sick.

    « Handy Hotel »

Nice, clean and quiet hotel that I stayed with when on a road trip around Tasmania. Was handy that it is located a short drive from the CBD and Richmond- wine country! Tea and coffee is always replenished!

    « Bus Tour »

Staff were delightful, with friendly and professional customer service provided. Rooms were spacious and inviting, with very comfortable beds. Close proximity to city centre and surrounds. Food was cooked to perfection and the cooked breakfast was delicious, with a large range of coffees also available. Would highly recommend the Balmoral to anyone looking for both quality and good old fashioned service, which is very rare to find these days.

« Clean, fresh, friendly staff and best value for money »

This is our second stay at the Best Western Balmoral and I wouldn't stay anywhere else if just needing a motel room. The beds are extremely comfortable and the sheets are so fresh and clean. The rooms have been updated and have a decent size tv, couch, table and chairs, ironing board and iron, mini bar and more. The bathrooms are ensuite style but all you need. No cold showers here! There is a restaurant on site which also offers room service for breakfast and dinner. Meals are well priced and there is a special of the day which is very inexpensive .. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Close to the entertainment centre but also not too far from the city. Although it is situated right on the busy Brooker Highway the double glazed Windows ensure the rooms get no traffic noise. Also a bonus is free Wifi .. Will be back again

« Great budget motel near Hobart »

On the highway but completely insulated from traffic noise by thick glazing. Good dining facilities and excellent value nightly specials. The roast dinner is to die for and is everything you really really wished for in a baked dinner at your local club or pub but never got. Super clean rooms and ultra friendly staff and owners. This is a winner. So close to Hobart and excellent shopping facilities very close nearby. Plenty of parking. Free laundry facilities with current model washers and dryers plus free detergent (never experienced this before). Plus free WiFi and a business centre with Internet and printing facilities - all at no cost. Unreal! Would not hesitate to stay here again.

    « Best overnight stay. »

The staff here are exceptional. From the man who booked me in at reception, to the woman who cooked and served me breakfast - they made me feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble! The accommodation was very clean and comfortable - the bed was glorious!

« Best value for money in Hobart »

Great Beds the best we have ever slept on, crisp cotton. Fantastic shower pressure and hot. Best price and fantastic breakfast included croissants, pastries, muffins, toast, cereal, fresh fruit, pod coffee, yoghurt. Service was excellent.

Have been using this motel for many years. The only complaint is the amount of wifi that is on offer. I travel extensively around Australia and it's only here that I have a limited download. Appart from that I like the location and the staff, that's why I keep coming back.

    « Very nice »

Spent 2 nights here and after reading other reviews it was what I expected. It was very clean, comfortable bed and pillows and nice shower. It had everything I needed. Little bit of traffic noise but very minor. The service at reception is very friendly and professional. I ate at the restaurant and the meal I had was like the rooms, basic but very nice, once again the service was great. Food a bit overpriced but convenient as it was 20meters from my room. Hotel a great location for me, I would definitely stay here again

    « Holiday in Hobart »

My husband and I found the rooms were excellent , We went to the restaurant to have our evening meals and breakfast . The management and staff were pleasant , lovely and very helpful . We would definitley stay again at the Balmoral Motor Inn next time we are staying in Hobart . it is only 20 mins away from the Hobart airport .

    « Awesome »

We had a great holiday with our children for 2 nights. The shower was excellent. The room extremely clean. The meal we had at the Restaurant was fabulous, as well as breakfast which was included in the very affordable price. Bed and pillows really comfortable.

    « Its ok »

Located on the highway you get a bit of noise. Room clean but dated. Shower could be cleaner. Hotel offers on site restaurant for breakfast and dinner and room service. Room has mini bar. Air con and laundry facilities.

« Beast Western Balmoral Motor Inn. »

Really enjoyed our stay, staff were very friendly and helpful the room was clean and comfortable. We had the continental breakfast which was more than adequate, plenty of everything. Property was close and convenient to all our activities and would not hesitate to pay a return visit in the future. Liked the helpful and friendly staff.

« The owners make it comfortable »

Stayed here for one night including dinner and breakfast and have to say it was value for money. The fact that the staff really care is what makes this a home away from home. They want your stay to be as comfortavle as possible. Would highly recommend

    5
« Charming and well located »

Pleasant hotel with good location. Rooms all clean and, whilst not necessarily well appointed or luxurious, have all the basic amenities, and with big comfortable beds, and a high standard of cleanliness. What stands out for me though, is I stayed in the Wrest Point earlier that week in Hobart, and would choose this every time over that simply because every single team member here genuinely cared, was personable and gave great service. From enquiring about whether I wanted to join Best Western (first time I've ever been asked after staying at Best Westerns) to asking if I wouldn't mind our privacy being disturbed when bringing breakfast to the room. Location also is great with only a few km's to the middle of Hobart, 25 mins to the airport, 10 mins to MONA, and 30 mins to Mount Wellington. Basically, pleasant little hotel made great by a great team.

    5
    « My opinion »

This motel I would highly recommend as it service was outstanding the staff were excellent, the room clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. Check in is earlier than most motels we have stayed at which is great as one doesn't have to wait around to long.

    5
    « Great Accommodation »

Yet again a great night, very clean and fantastic staff well done. I love staying here it nice and cosy very central to everything. I would highly recommend Balmoral. Was very quiet and relaxing. The frlnt receptionist is very accommodating.

    « Great accommodation »

Lovely motel, clean rooms with all one could need. Attentive, helpful staff. Would certainly stay again. Not far from central Hobart. The motel is quite near a fairly busy road, however once inside the rooms the noise is not noticeable. Recommend!

    4
« The roadworks spoils it all »

It is a neat and tidy motel where the owners/managers take great pride in decorating the dining room for Christmas in July. In fact this must have been the most decorated commercial venue that I have ever seen before. The food however- we had Barramundi, was not fresh and had quite a few bones. The coffee was more like dishwater, weak and tasteless. Unfortunately their coffee machine was out of order. However, the nibbles and vegetables plus the desert was excellent. The service was obliging and very friendly.

  • 3
    « "Oasis amid roadworks" »

Dated motel that needs a little money spent on it however the road works on the Brooker highway at the door must made it hard to attract customers, and it is due for completion NEXT year! Not a good start when you find a hair on the bathroom floor!! reported to staff / manager. Good nights sleep. Restaurant o/k but had a curry on menu--no rice!!

    5
« Very pleasant and comfortable place to stay »

My partner and I booked into this motel as we had a last minute change of plans. The motel staff were more than accommodating and gave us a better rate than provided online and an upgrade to a king room. They also threw in a complimentary continental breakfast!! Upon entering our room quite late that night, we were very impressed that a staff member had taken the time to turn the heater on before we even checked in. That's just fantastic service! The room was very neat, tidy, warm and comfortable. The bed was one of the most comfortable we had ever slept on. We dined in the restaurant the next night and the meals provided are just amazing. The service was great and the waiting staff greeted you with a smile all night. We will definitely be staying here on our next visit to see family in this area. Would highly recommend if you are after a quiet and comfortable nights sleep.

« Good value for money »

Stayed in one of the rooms waiting to be refurbished but there was nothing really bad about it, just dated. The bathroom had been renovated and was lovely. Plenty of towels, great shower. The staff were helpful over the phone, and in person. Not pricey - not bad at all!

    4
    « Great friendly »

For Value for money its high on my list in Hobart. Exceptional staff spotless resturant a delight.Nothing is to much trouble .Rooms are large and so clean.third stay ans will do again.A little out of the way but this is overcome by the stay.

« Enjoyable place to stay »

From booking in until check out we were very happy with our choice of accommodation. It is a little way out from Hobart city centre but as we were going to see the Mona gallery it was perfect for us. Our room was very clean and quite spacious with a good bed and ensuite. Meals were excellent and staff very friendly

    5
« An excellent place to stay »

Could not fault the hotel. Initially concerned about roadworks outside and missed the turn at first. However the room was clean, well equipped, comfortable and quiet. The continental breakfast was good. Suggest you ask what the main course for the day is in the restaurant. We found it very good and great value for money

    5
    « The Best »

We stayed here with a group of 32 older citizens for three nights over Easter. Rooms were clean, and generously sized. Restaurant answered every call for special diets, despite the holiday weekend. Don't know when pour host slept but every time we looked they were helping somebody. If you have your own transport this is the place to stay in Hobart. Good accomodation, good food, and very helpful staff.

    « Good motel »

Situated in Glenorchy, a good area for the art gallery and reasonable shops around. Room was comfortable and fairly large. Didn't have breakfast, but restaurant served dinner and breakfast. 10 min drive to central hobart.

    « Surprisingly nice »

Well we stayed here simply because Hobart was just about booked out and what accommodation that was available was extremely expensive. Plus it was more or less in the end of town that we needed to be in I was a bit reticent about it but it actually is fine inside. My room was quite large with a lounge chair as well as a dining table and two chairs. The bed was a king split and probably a little too firm for me but I think the majority of people would find the beds quite comfy. The bathroom was quite small as was the shower stall (no bath) but there was ample supply of fluffy towels and some toiletries. There is a mini bar as well and free wi fi which was very welcome. The hotel has a restaurant on site so you can get buffet breakfast ($10) or a cooked breakfast ($20). Staff in the dining room very obliging and friendly but the "buffet" was pretty basic and coffee was just out of a vending type of machine. I didn't touch the coffee or any of the other items in the "buffet", instead I would just order poached eggs on toast. So I was paying $20 for just two ordinary poached eggs on white bread toast. I did think that was a bit rich, thank goodness costs were being covered by my Company. We didn't eat here at night but I did see that they had $15 dinner specials, which apparently change every day. Only very small gripe was the road noise. You are right alongside Brooker Hwy and, whilst the traffic does die down in the week small hours it is quite loud most of the time and starts at about 5am. So that wasn't very conducive for me to getting a good nights sleep. I was in a ground floor room, though and I did see that the upstairs rooms have a glassed-in corridor so it's possible that the upstairs rooms would be a bit more insulated from the noise. I have to admit I was overall pleasantly surprised, and it turned out to be an OK place to stay.

    4
    « A Very Enjoyable Stay »

This motel is very well appointed. We had an upstairs room and even though on a main hwy, no noise problem. It's only about a 10 min drive to Hobart, so well located. The restaurant has great food at reasonable prices, the $15 special an extra bonus. The staff were extremely helpful. I recommend this motel highly and would be my first stop next time I am in Hobart.

    5
« Great value and conveniently located place with good food and excellent staff »

I stayed here for 4 nights as a holiday in Hobart. The room was excellent as was the food in the Restaurant - well priced, especially the $15 nightly 'special'. It was really nice to have an 'on the spot' cooked breakfast as opposed to the 'buffet' cooked breakfasts I am normally used to. The bed was extremely comfortable and the Mini-Bar items were at near 'pub' prices. The Wi-Fi was great. My room was upstairs so I had to 'muscle' my luggage up as there was no elevator or ramp - a 'minor' problem. Overall a 'wonderful' experience in no due part to the excellent friendly staff. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay.

    4
    « Very Comfy Stay »

A good motel having stayed 4 nights no problems with road noise, very clean and comfortable with good facilities having a washing machine and dryer also providing detergent free of charge. A good all you can eat continental breakfast and also offer you a dinner special as well as what is on the menu. Jean the Manager was absolutely lovely both while in the Restaurant and on the Front Desk. Would go back and stay again

« Great place to base for access to Hobart and surrounds »

My wife and I booked for 3 nights but extended for an extra night ( so much to do and see) We were given an ex King room on the ground floor in the corner of the property, It was a beautiful room with lots of space and the manager gave us a great price for seniors, We used the restaurant every night and found the food good value especially their nightly special which is only $15. The staff were all very friendly and helpful I would definitely recommend this motel.

    4
« comfortable, pleasant and convenient »

Despite being on a main road we were not at all disturbed by traffic noise. There is a convenient washing machine & dryer and the owners provided detergent free of change. We stayed in the family unit that has a separate bedroom and found everything very good. Also - enjoyed a very good meal in the restaurant.

    4
    « Overnight stay. »

Good hotel on the Booker Highway perfect for an overnight stay, on the outskirts of Hobart we were on our way to Strahan so it was a good spot to start our journey. The motel was very clean with good facilities. Plenty of parking on site.

    5
« Hospitality at its best »

We started our family trip (6 adults and 2 children) in Hobart and stayed at the balmoral and were very happy, all 3 rooms were spotless and comfortable the continental breakfast was very generous. Spent another 5 nights in different motels and were more the happy to be back at the balmoral for our last 2 nights!!! Will be back and so will our friends. Thank you guys for your hospitality.

« "Great value and pleased with our room" »

We stayed at the Balmoral as it was hard to get accommodation in Hobart at this time of the year but much to my surprise our room was rather nice. The room was lovely and clean and the king size bed was really comfortable. The rate was very reasonable considering it is peak tourist season and the rate included continental breakfast. It is only a short drive to Northgate shopping centre and the cbd is less than ten minutes away. They also have a restaurant if you want to eat there with reasonable prices plus the restaurant is also nice and clean and the room is quiet nice. Has plenty of parking just outside your room. We stayed in a king room.

    2
    « Over rated »

Manager very pleasant and accommodating; eat all you can continental breakfast a plus but this place is really tired; our room (12) was small, bathroom had hair on floor and beds not overly comfortable. Two star at best. Won't be a return customer.

    « Weekend getaway »

Great motor inn situated in the outer suburbs of Hobart, very close to the Derwent Entertainment Centre. Super friendly staff, lovely comfortable bed and the best pork cutlet on garlic mash I have ever eaten. Will definitely return.

    4
« Clean comfy friendly staff »

We stayed two nights everything was clean and comfortable. The only thing was a lack of power points to charge the phone. There were plenty of clean towels. We also had a nice meal in the restaurant It was nothing flash but arrived promptly and was well cooked. Also had room service on night two which arrived promptly. Despite being on the highway the room was quiet. I'd stay here again.

    5
    « Cadbury marathon »

Lovely couple run establishment Restaurant on site we had a pleasant dining every time we went Rooms really clean Housekeeping services on spot Had enough bathroom amenities for the time we were here Was able to get milk whenever we needed it from reception Housekeeping was helpful when we just needed tea and coffee Only downfall was bed was a bit too hard for us but that's just personal preference

    5
    « A very comfortable stay »

A very comfortable stay. Lovely new, clean rooms. Welcoming reception. Breakfast nothing to rave about, but enough to start you off on the day. Would recommend to others and would also return if in the area.

    4
« Comfortable Accomodation But a Fair Way From Central Hobart »

We found the Accomodation at Balmoral Motor Inn to be very comfortable at an affordable price. It is about 7 Km from the city which does mean planning your day carefully. There did not seem to be any amenities close by. The motel staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here if you do not want to pay the high prices required to stay in central Hobart. Although we did arrive at the peak of the holiday season.

    5
    « Good spot »

We visited MONA which is just down the road and found this motel to be very convenient. The room we were given was near the highway, I commented that I am a light sleeper and the staff cheerfully upgraded me to a quieter room. I was impressed by this. The room was large and comfortable, good bed, chairs and table, TV etc. lots of complementary goodies in the bathroom and lovely fluffy towels. You would need a car to stay here but I found it very easy to get to the centre of town (10 min and it was Xmas week). My Tassie friends thought it was very out of town although it seemed an easy place to navigate from. A large shopping centre is 5 min away with all you could want even a cinema, woollies etc. great spot, convenient for MONA and good for town. Really friendly and professional staff

    5
    « Terrific Service »

I found the service at Balmoral Motor Inn to be first class. I made the booking on line and corresponded by e-mail. My flight was delayed but the Motor Inn handled everything smoothly. My room was clean and spacious and I slept wonderfully. The check-out process was flawless and the woman handling it had a warm and delightful manner. I would recommend this Motor Inn.

    5
    « Garden group accommodation »

In November I took a large to Tasmania on a 12 day garden tour and prior to the tour 8 of the group organized a pre-tour and stayed at the Balmoral Motor Inn. Jean, the owner and David the manager, greeted us with enthusiasm and made us very welcome. Meals were of a high standard and the rooms very comfortable. The personal touch meant so much to the enjoyment of our stay. I would recommend this motel highly.

« never lets you down »

Stayed here again on bussiness thanks to all staff had a great meal in restaurant meet a lovely couple from new zealand sat there for hours talking Saturday night restaurant was booked out so had room services delived in a professional mammer this place is very well priced great rooms has it all did have one small problem was a barking dog next door 4 hours later it stopped David, Jean you do a great job running this place thank you for a easy check in

    5
« Another very comfortable 4 nights at my favourite Hobart Motel »

As usual the owner/managers, Jean and David went out of their way at short notice to make the same room available for me 4 nights in a row even though they were heavily booked at the time. This friendly obliging service has never changed over the many years that my late wife and I have had the pleasure of staying at this very comfortable establishment. The motel restaurant has the highest quality local food and wine on hand and is served to you by their very friendly staff. We could never wait to get back to stay there again and be made so welcome.

    5
    « Very Welcoming »

Had a school group of 78 spend two nights at this motel whilst checking out the sights of Hobart. What a huge demand on the managers, Jean + David, however they were always smiling and most accommodating. Our rooms were really comfortable. The main road traffic noise didn't effect our sleep at all. Jean has obviously spent a great deal of time setting up Christmas decorations in their dining room which created a lovely homey feel. Somehow they managed to feed the entire group at breakfast and dinner, without any fuss and bother, even catering for food allergies. We never left hungry. Thanks Jean and David.

    « Not a bad motel »

On quite busy road but that was no problem as it seemed to get busy early in the mornings and we liked to be up and out nice and early .Room was a nice size and very clean with a good comfy bed plenty of tea and coffee ect and had a well stocked mini bar .We ate in the Restaurant 3 times and the meals were not bad .We were a bit disappointed when one meal we ordered came with fries and when we asked if that one meal could come with Mash we were told in no uncertain terms "NO" which seemed odd as plenty of the meals that were being served came with Mash .in total we stayed there 4 nights and spent over $500 on our stay so I don't think a few Mashed potato were out of the question .All in all not a bad place to stay

    5
« Large room, well serviced for a great price »

Stayed upstairs and even though the motel is on the Brooker Highway, we didn't hear the traffic due to the glass closing in the corridor. Nice large room with a great bed. Would certainly stay here again and recommend to others. We didn't feel that the rooms were dated at all and enjoyed the size of the room to spread out and enjoy the sofa and coffee table

    « 3 day business trip »

in my busy world I would certainly recommend and will stay there again.Clean ,good bed .nice room ,desk to work on,tv easy to operate .good and safe parking ,nice small bar and great small restaurant with fun staff making my say that much enjoyable...Close to the city with fast connections in and out...quite place to stay ...Colin Newcastle

    « Comfortable but average »

First impression when you drive into the car park is 70's style motel, and the dated décor pretty much continues this theme in the walkways and rooms. The staff on reception are polite and extremely accommodating, even offering an upgrade. The walkways smell musty and I would say that is because of the older style of carpeting. Despite being next to a busy road, it was quiet in the room. The room had a couch, table and chairs, mini bar, tea and coffee. The bathroom was a nice size, however the paint was peeling off the bathroom ceiling. The towels were on the small side, but were soft, unfortunately they were the wrong colour against the rest of the décor. The shower had good water pressure. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were lumpy. With a little TLC and a good update this motel could move successfully into the current times, and attention to simple things like ensuring the pen in the room wasn't broken surely is up to good housekeeping. I would stay here again but not before a refurb.

« Peaceful, Comfy Abode with Excellent Staff »

A wonderful place to rest the weary head after enjoying the sights and sounds of Hobart. Close to all the interesting things and easy taxi distance if that's needed. Hosts are remarkable welcoming and go out of their way to ensure your complete satisfaction. Breakfasts are truly gigantic and perfectly presented. Jean and the team are very special.

    5
    « Perfect stay »

We found the motel by chance and walked in hoping for a room. We were greeted with warm enthusiasm and made to feel very welcome. We stayed two nights. The host was on his last few days of cover so we didn't meet regular management but we were most impressed with how we were made to feel. We dined in the restaurant for dinner and again for breakfast. Room was very clean and well appointed. Cannot fault and will stay again whenever we get back to Tassie.

    « Simple but elegant »

My husband & I stayed here last night, it was a last minute planned trip to Hobart so we booked wherever we could get in. From the moment I walked into the reception greeted by friendly staff I knew we were in for nice stay. Our room was clean & well equipped it was the simple things like having plenty of tissues, soap, fresh milk etc that really made it stand out. We had a lovely breakfast this morning in the restaurant which was very yummy. We will definitely stay here again
