    « Overnight stay. »

After a long haul flight from Barbados we checked in here. How did we find it? Excellent service went that extra mile as we got there before checking in time. Was clean tidy offered coffee tea free wifi definitely recommend this hotel a great over night stay highly recommend it.

« Definitely better airport hotels around Gatwick »

Stayed at this hotel in September 2016 for one night before our holiday. Transfers to the airport from the hotel were fine and the gentlemen was very friendly. We booked the hotel as a last minute, it seems to be one of the cheapest hotels near Gatwick and it feels it. Hotel car park was such a mess and cars tightly packed. Room was absolutely boiling and we slept with windows open all night and hardly slept due to the heat, and the air con was broken! The rooms were clean and the staff were friendly. Didn't try the restaurant as didn't really appeal! Overall it was okay for a cheap (compared to other airport hotels near Gatwick) quick stopover but wouldn't stay again.

« Excellent value for money »

We stayed here for 1 night in October. Our room was spacious and very clean. The room was clean and warm. They were very helpful on reception and the transfers was very reliable. I would use this hotel again.

« Airport parking great hotel and restaurant »

Warm welcome at reception great room with modern clean decor easy parking good breakfast and just short shuttle from Gatwick. Wifi in room and coffee/tea. Great value too. You get a better deal booking direct with hotel rather than through one of the search sites. Definitely recommend

« Noisy plumbing in rooms! »

My room was small but adequate, the bed was most comfortable, however, the plumbing noises kept me awake, and not necessarily from my room.Excellent service from the transfer drivers to and from the airport, most helpful, in particular Dennis.

« Perfect for the airport »

Stayed one night, perfect for the airport. Very clean and tidy, great staff. One negative - the bed was very hard for our liking. Bit of noise from other inconsiderate guests as in most hotels for airports!

    « It's alright if you're on a budget! »

We booked this hotel as we needed somewhere to stay the night before our flight and somewhere with parking for 16 days. When we arrived we soon realised they have overbooked for the size of their car park. There was absolutely no space to park and we had to leave the car blocking others in by the side of the building (thank god we didn't have a really expensive car with us!) Checking in was difficult as it was so busy, the poor lady behind reception was running around trying to sort everyone out while a man who worked there sat down in the lobby just watching. We had to ask him to help hold the door for us while we lugged 5 suitcases through a small door towards our room as he just sat there watching us!! Well done to the woman receptionist but her job would of been 100 times easier if the other staff weren't so lazy and helped. The room was lovely and I have no complaints about it whatsoever. We were on the ground floor. The shuttle service was great on the way to the airport, on the way back however (collecting us from the airport) it took forever and after a 10 hour flight, a shuttle taking 45 minutes from a hotel that was about 10 minutes away is a joke. We had to call them twice. Checking out was again, a nightmare. Only 2 members of staff for quite a few people, one couple said they had called ahead that they were coming home a day early but I don't believe the hotel wrote it down and their car was stuck out the back in the giant game of car tetris they seemed to play. We did however get our car back in one piece. Which we weren't expecting!! Our experience wasn't too bad at all, and for a budget hotel, we got exactly what we expected.

    « Airport parking »

This is the 3rd time family and friends have used the Best Western Skylane and find it very good value for one nights stay and parking for up to 15 days, rooms are clean and tidy and the restaurant isn't to exspensive.

« Never stay at this hotel!! »

The hotel stank of cannabis when we arrived and in the upstairs corridors it was overpowering. We left the car parked at the hotel for a week and when we got back the car interior stank of it too - there were muddy boot prints all over the carpet, and 46 extra miles on the clock too! I'd zero'd the trip meter before we left. I complained to Best Western and they said that their hotels are managed independently. They passed my complaint on to the hotel and all I got back was an email denying everything. Not surprising given that cannabis use and the unauthorised use of my vehicle are both illegal! Whatever you do, avoid this one at all costs. ??

« Hotel with car parking »

The hotel is ok, front of house service is not always quick. Shuttle service to Gatwick terminals was frequent and good, the driver was particularly helpful although we did have to wait nearly 30 mins for our return journey which he did apologise for. The rooms are ok and clean and they took good care of our vehicle which was left with them for 11 days. The big downside is the restaurant - it leaves a lot to be desired, in fact - I would go as far to say that I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

    « If I could leave less than a 1* review I would have! »

The whole experience has been shocking. Always had a great experience with airport hotel and parking previously but clearly I need to chose more carefully. When we arrived we were made to wait whilst the receptionist kept stopping our booking to sort other people out. Then when we got to our room at 11pm at night it was freezing with no heaters to turn up, just a panel to change the temperature which wouldn't increase. The bed was uncomfortable and the kettle only worked if you held down the lid until it boiled. To top it off when we brushed our teeth the water was brown- and not just a little!!! Finally after a lovely few days away and arriving back to Gatwick late at night we called to ask for our transfer back to collect our car and as we were told at check in that it takes 10-15mins to arrive I phoned them whilst we were on our way to the bus stop only to be told that I needed to phone back when we were at the bus stop really rudely because despite assuring the guy that we could see the bus stop already that if we missed the transfer we would have to wait an hour for the next one. Nowhere does it say there is set times for transfers. Lo and behold we stood waiting over 15minutes for the car to even arrive in the freezing cold in November at 11.30. Don't bother staying here even if it is the cheapest!!

    « one night stay »

Nice clean room. We only stayed one night for an early flight but it was fine, room nice and clean, bed comfortable. Didnt think much to the restaurant attatched to it though, food was poor as was the service

    « Hotel and Car »

we stayed here the night before we flew out early. Easy check in and handing over car for parking. They keep the car keys and moved the car so no issues there. The room was sufficient for what we wanted and free wifi :-) comfortable bed and mini bus service for £5 each per person is direct to airport, only 10 minutes away. On returning we called the free service at our drop off area by the yellow phone on the pillar and they came within 10 minutes to pick us up and take back to the hotel. Thank you Denis :-) The only let down was we added on food in the adjacent restaurant but wouldn't bother next time. only included food not a drink for £10 each and the food wasn't great. 2 items on the menu i wanted to order i couldn't have as not available and we were told could not have the curry which everyone else in the restaurant seemed to have? overall the hotel and parking was great i would use these again and recommend and a good price.

    « Awful hotel »

The whole experience was quite terrible. Unhelpful staff, bar closed early due to some private function, no room service, not even for drinks and breakfast served from 7am which for an airport hotel is ridiculous as obviously the flights leave early in the morning, that's the purpose of staying at the airport hotel. Prepaid the breakfast and couldn't get anything to eat. Stay somewhere else, definitely wouldn't recommend.

« Ok but not special »

Room average. Bathroom quite small a large person would struggle as wash basin very close to loo. We had booked double room but we're given a twin. Rooms quite quiet even though overlooking car park and main road. Evening meal ok reasonably priced for location. Had an issue when we ordered breakfast as waitress said reception had told her we had not pre booked and paid for it. Fortunately I had the booking confirmation in our room. (Booked through holiday extras). When I showed it to the receptionist she said breakfast had not been paid for according to her confirmation although it clearly was shown on mine. Very reluctantly she said she would let us have breakfast, but was clearly not very happy. Car parking was on site which was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. However the hotel mini bus will only take 8 people and runs every half hour. We asked for 9.00 am transfer (plenty of time for our 12.15 flight) but were told this was fully booked, as was the 9.30am transfer which would have been ok, so we had to take the 8.30am which was really too early. So beware. There are a lot of rooms in this hotel so transfers can be an issue even if you book on arrival as we did at 6pm. On return you have to ring for transport back to hotel. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to arrive..

    « Hotel and Parking 15 days »

Good place to overnight. Was initially concerned about parking on site but car was re-parked at rear of building in a date sequence for collection. On return ( at 0230), room was booked for another night. Next morning, car was parked at front of hotel in perfect condition - thank you! Note: Petra (reception) was excellent, friendly and very efficient. She also gave use a good Taxi service - (Roadrunners) to contact on return to airport if after midnight. Fast service and £6 for trip in early morning was brilliant. Recommend this hotel, service and on-site parking.

    « Good enough. »

This is a good hotel of you are not looking for luxury. It is about 10 minutes from the Gatwik airport and the taxi fare from the hotel to the airport is 6P. It offers hairdryer, coffee, and wiffi. Make sure you are on time for the shuttle they offer otherwise they front desk guy will be rude to you. I wouldn't eat the breakfast the hotel offers. It is not good and the first and only time I ordered it it came with a hair. If you are here on business or looking for an affordable hotel this is the one. They could add a mini fridge making it better for the customer to buy outside food given the horrible restaurant.

    « Atrocious customer service »

We had booked this hotel as it was close to Gatwick and offered a shuttle bus service. When we booked in for our overnight stay we requested a shuttle transfer for the next morning at 09.00 and were informed that the bus was fully booked and not available until 11.00 and that we would have to take a taxi and that for our return the service stopped at 23.30. On our return I called from the luggage carousel area and was told to walk to the bus stop (a 10 minute walk) and call again, we duly called again at 11.15 and were informed that they could not collect us as we had not booked and paid for the return shuttle when I explained that we were unable to use the shuttle on our outgoing journey they told me that they no longer ran a return bus service. After a long walk back to the far side of the terminal we managed to get a taxi back to the hotel. When I talked to the manager he glibly said that Holiday Extras had the transfer details wrong on the booking details and laughed at me. I Have taken up this issue with Holiday Extras who have been very diligent in querying this with the Hotel and then a week later the Hotel Manager responded with a rambling response that was a complete fabrication that can be easily proved by phone records and receipts. Do not book this Hotel if you are relying on transfers and customer service.

    « Does the job »

Decent room, lots of issues with key card entry not working, up and down in the lifts several times 4 different cards still had to be let in by the manager. Parking is extra and pricy, Basic clean room, does the job

« 15 Minutes to check in and Cold shower »

Arrived at 2015 on a Thursday night, There was 3 men checking in before me, The reservation staff member took ages to check them in, Then it was my turn, Took approximately 15 minutes to locate my pre paid booking, By the time I was checked in I asked about the restaurant and was told would be closing for last orders in 10 minutes, How on earth would I go to room (when eventually checked in) and make it back and order food??? Needless to say no food ordered. Bed was very comfortable, When trying to shower the water was freezing, The taps in the hand basin produced cold water also, so had to shower in cold water !!! Not happy. When checking out informed reception staff who could not be bothered with the problem, Did not even ask what room I had checked out of!! My advise, only stay here if you want no food at supper time and if you want to wash in cold water.

    « Fantastic value »

We stayed here prior to flying from Gatwick airport. The location was easy to find with the directions provided by the hotel. we arrived late in the evening and was met by a member of staff who showed us to a parking space. The receptionist was very helpful and chatty. Room was clean and all facilities in working oreder The price was excellent for location.

    « Poor experience »

With very sqeaky floorboards and poor insulation you can hear and feel people in the rooms around you walking about, using the bathroom and walking down the corridors. The hotel restaurant was awful, staff barely speak English and got our orders wrong. Diet Coke and Kronenberg ordered, they brought a lemonade and Fosters. When correct drink arrived after telling them, they were flat. Food quality was poor and I left the fish from the fish and chips as it was soggy and disgusting. The minibus transfer was ok, but we were waiting around for the driver and the minibus itself is grotty. The return transfer was worse because we waited nearly an hour in 10 degrees. We called them using the yellow phone at the pick up point and they said someone will be with us soon. After 20 minutes we called again and was told by the man 'soon', when asking for clarification as we'd been waiting a long time in the cold he brushed us off and just again said 'soon' and for us to wait. The minibus used was worse on the way back and filthy. I wouldn't stay here again. We thought it would be convenient but we'll stick to the good hotels we know in future, namely Marriott and Hilton for the airport.

    « Poor experience »

TV in room broken, heating didn't work,we were cold, manager was indifferent. Meal was awful, service bad and we waited an hour for the main course, overpriced too. We asked the manager about being cold and we were eventually given a heater for the room. We tried several rooms to find a TV that was working, to no avail. I asked if the TV's were checked and the heating, but he didn't respond. Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Gatwick Airport.

« Quiet, comfortable hotel close to Gatwick »

We stayed at this hotel to visit family near by, but it is very close to Gatwick without being on top of it. We have stayed at the Travel Lodge just up the road but the additional £8 per night for parking is extortionate. The Skylane is clean, comfortable, quiet and the breakfast quick and freshly cooked.

« Clean but rooms VERY Noisy slamming of doors .. Can hear people shower etc »

Taxi service very good on the way out but extremly poor pick up at Gatwick airport had to wait over 45 mins and 2 phone calls..On return wrong car key given.. « Transfer Hotel with No Transfers »

Don't normally write these, but feel that customers should be aware of some of its flaws. My only reason for booking this was affordable, airport parking with overnight accommodation and a shuttle bus transfer to the airport. The minibus transfer is an extra £5 on your on-line booking which you only discover on arrival at the hotel. If you don't book the transfer early enough you risk having to get a taxi as my colleague who arrived after me later discovered. They only have one minibus for all the transfers! For a requested 9.15am transfer from the hotel to the airport they could only offer me a 9am or an 8am slot. In the end i opted to go by taxi with my colleague despite having already paid my £5. On return I followed their instructions to call them when I arrived. I did this from baggage reclaim, but by the time I got out the bus had gone and I had to wait for this one bus to do its round trip which meant I got transferred nearly an hour later. I phoned another two times to ask when the bus would get there and got no answer. If it's convenience and the minimising of travel hassle you want then don't go here. My flight got in at 10.05, i went through customs and baggage reclaim quickly, but only got to my car at 12 noon and that took some finding in the car park as no-one shows you where they have moved it too!

    « Not Best »

I don't write reviews as I think positive experience needs to be experienced. However negative or poor and justified feedback for places is helpful (this is my first such review). From entering the hotel we were greeted by an empty reception, the manager (as I discovered later) was sat in the office and he saw me arrive, with nobody on reception he made no attempt to get up and see to us. The room smelled of paint, not a bad thing as it meant they cared about the place. That unfortunately was the last vision of this we saw. When we entered the restaurant, a stark and sole-less place, we were shown to a table. I am not one for TV in a restaurant but if it's there you should at least be able to see it (half the screen was obscured by some partitions). We were then asked it we wanted to order and when we said can we order drinks first we were told yes but I can't do that, the man will do that. Then later we were asked by 'the man' has your drinks order been taken? We ordered our food moments later as we felt rushed. The waitress returned some 15 minutes later asking my wife "what have you ordered as we lost the ticket" 5 minutes later they came back to ask me what my order had been. 25 minutes later my 70's inspired prawn cocktail arrived. Bland and with less finesse than a rusty Ford Capri. So anticipation built, as you can imagine by now, for the Chicken Tikka Masala and Angus beef burger, New York style. At first glance the CTM was (for £14) practically a child's portion. My wife does not eat much but even she had to grab the magnifying glass and inspect closer. Her disappointment was heightened when she realised she had not been served her mini Naan bread - or maybe she had!! My burger looked, on the face of things, to be alright. Let's forget the hair in the chips. When my wife asked could I have my naan bread the waitress stared blankly and said Yes. So we asked again "the curry is served with a naan bread, will I get it?" Yes a bread was the reply, no said Carla I am due a naan bread for my curry, It's on the menu. OK. The server then left. During this time I popped the top off my burger to see processed cheese and bacon who's fat shone back at me like the pasty white flesh of an English girl on holiday. Nothing like uncooked bacon fat to make you hungry. My wife now on her last mouthfuls of curry spotted the manager (the one who didn't want to be seen on reception earlier). She held out her hand and then requested his attention. When he came to the table we explained what we had experienced, he said sorry I will speak to the kitchen. When we explained he may like to speak to the other tables (that had not been served, were waiting for courses, were ignored by servers) he told us I will deal with them if they talk to me. Anyway he said, I will get your naan bread for you. My wife who had now become Jack Spratt and licked the bowl clean said but I don't need the naan bread now as I have finished. He said okay leave it with me. We gestured to the tables around us, they all held their hands up, he looked at them and walked off to the kitchen ignoring the other tables. Guess what happened 2 minutes later? Yup the naan bread turned up. Well I say naan bread - if naan bread looks like a small seeded white bread roll then Carla was happy. So we said sorry but that is not a naan bread. The server said so are you saying you don't want it now? The look she got said it all. We sat there for some 10 minutes, the manager was nowhere in sight and all the servers kept their heads down. Finally the chef turned up apologising for the experience. Apparently some customers don't like cooked bacon fat! I am sure my FFS look made him re-think this as he said though i may have under done yours. Also your naan bread was forgotten by the server as she does not know the menu as it was new tonight. But when we asked so when does a bread roll look like a naan bread he said she doesn't know what it looks like. Anyway he offered us a free curry and a free dessert. We said it's not your job to apologise for bad service it's the managers but he has disappeared. He said "I know". We got a free curry! Wow. Please if you are staying here try and find somewhere local to eat. I know these places of fast turnover and unlikely repeat business are there for one purpose and one purpose only but you still need to feel as if a passion and drive towards customer service matters. Like I say I have never written a trip advisor review before but this place and it's management need reviewing.

    « Overnight »

Positives: Problem with web site booking, but sorted out very efficiently by the young women on reception. Shuttle bus worked well, booked in for return, no problems. Room clean and practical. Negatives: No hot water when I checked in and still no hot water when I went to bed. The Indian restaurant didn't exist any more, and so had to have a mediocre gammon and chips. My friend ordered a pizza, but the had run out of pizza!!!! We were the first in the restaurant at 6. Someone had been smoking weed in the up stairs landing, or just out side the open window. Those negatives really detracted from what could have been a very positive experience in a potentially fantastic hotel

Booked twin for overnight stay due to early gatwick flight. Bus shuttle cam within 5 mins of calling hotel reception £3 per person.check in very smooth and professionally done.hotel manager very polite and calm.room really good.totally spotless and lashings of hot water for long bath soak.wake up call on time .check out smooth also.taxi booked by manager also time and only £6 for 2 .there was small problem with room service ,but manager phoned us and apologised, will definetly stay again, been to the more pricey hotels at Gatwick and had bad room and bad service plus really expensive transport costs to airport.well best western and staff.

    « Return from Spain »

Ok before I start want to say the room was lovely, clean, quiet and had tea service. It was a bargain at £68 with two weeks free parking. Now a couple of things, when we first parked at about 1pm on October 1st we wanted to eat before our flight to Spain nope!! Restaurant closed!! Upon our return at 11.10 pm on the 15th we wanted a drink nope bar and restaurant closed CRAP. Then on Sunday morning I happened to glance at piece of paper we had been given with wifi code on said 'book breakfast upon arrival and pay only £5.50' so I said to receptionist can we still get this price (8.00am) we were told no? Only upon arrival? Now this would not have been an issue except that at 11.10pm the night before we had queried breakfast at £8.00 why didn't the night manager mention the £5.50 price then? Will not return and we gave our breakfast business to another hotel

« great place to stay »

booked hotel and parking with this hotel, the hotel was clean and tidy and staff friendly, they do a airport shuttle run for £5 return for adults (was not charged for the kids), I thought this was reasonable for a return trip. the car was there for 3 weeks and well looked after, due to hurricane Mathew while on holiday our flights were delayed, the hotel was and great about this when we finally turned up on the return trip they did not charge any extra to alter the dates as we had booked a overnight stay on return journey.. well recommended

    « Seen better »

Twin bedded room, my brother slept well but mine was uncomfortable. Room was clean and for one night adequate. The bar area is also used as a restaurant so there are no comfortable chairs. The food choice could be a lot better, it's downfall is the staffing levels, as long as you are prepared to wait it's fine. The same applies to breakfast and the choice a lot worse. Not somewhere I would choose for more than 1 night.

Ticked all the boxes parked for 2 weeks taxi to airport was £6 each way when we returned called the taxi firm they came within 10 mins it was early hours of the morning checked in was very quick, great room on ground floor modern and clean breakfast in the morning was very good plenty of it. Will definitely be using again

    « Poor Customer Service »

Additional costs that were not given when I initially booked. Unhelpful and understaffed front desk. Airport shuttle took an hour to pick us up. Driver was not friendly. Breakfast was terrible and overpriced.

    « AVOID AVOID AVOID »

Absolute joke of a hotel. Staff don't care. Car will be disgusting when you return. Beds not double. Restaurant understaffed and not what they state it is. RATS heard chewing in the corner of room. Hear doors slamming all night. Transfer bus is late or full. DO NOT think about booking this hotel. They will ignore your comments/feedback/complaints and you will be left out of pocket, tired and with a damaged/dirty car!

    « Breakfast rip off »

Unprofessional and unwelcoming staff made this a bad experience. The guy stayed in the back office and asked us what we wanted we were overcharged for breakfast and I felt that the guy was disappointed that we paid by debit and did not give him cash

    « OK for a night over »

Everything has been OK. I am just disappointed by the food quality in the hotel restaurant for the diner, I recommend that you find another place where to eat in the town centre; the breakfast was OK for the price, but I've seen better. Overall OK for just staying a night.

    « Great room »

I was a solo traveller and given a very nice clean comfy modern twin bedded room with a nice roomy on suite but I would have preferred a hotter shower. I found it was an efficient hotel but not terribly friendly in fact we hardly saw any staff. The buffet evening meal was very disappointing after a really good mushroom soup the main meal was not very hot very hard vegetables and thin watery gravy. I had vanilla icecream for dessert there was a chocolate cake/gateau as an option as well. At breakfast there was a large choice. I had fresh fruit followed by toast and marmalade but there was also cooked breakfast and cold meats available.

    « Air conditioning hell »

My family stayed in room 29 before a holiday for ease as we were flying from Gatwick. The rooms were clean, however the air conditioning unit didn't work and the night we stayed was hot a humid & with three people sharing a room it soon became unbearable. I complained at the reception as the thermostat wouldn't go lower than 18 degrees but the room was far hotter. I was told 18 was more than cold enough and I didn't need any lower. I explained the unit wasn't working as we were getting no air in the room at all. I was then told to open the window in a room situated above the reception doors with people arriving and leaving throughout the night! I explained this isn't how an air-conditioning unit works and that all the Windows need to be shot to regulate the temperature. Half an hour later someone came up to the room, amended the switch to put it on fan mode and told us to open the windows. After another hour not being able to sleep I went down and asked for a electric fan which they provided. The overall heat of the room coupled with the fact that we had had the windows open and her car door slamming and people entering and leaving every five minutes meant we had an awful night sleep. For a place at post it has air-conditioning units in all its rooms it's clear that they don't all work and nothing is being done to rectify that issue. I would never stay at this place again but choose to get up earlier and get a taxi to Gatwick to get more sleep before my flight.

« Wow. Great rooms amazing service! »

Well what can I say, we stayed here for 1 night before our first family holiday with our 3 month old baby and I honestly could not rate it enough. We where met by the lovely receptionist Petra who is one of the loveliest and most helpful ladies I have met and this includes staying in some extremely expensive central London hotels. The rooms are clean, decorated nicely and have everything you could possibly need. And if there is anything just ask Petra on the desk as she couldn't oblige more! The bar is nice and quiet and fairly priced and the restaurant serves some fantastic food at great prices also. I will 100% be coming here to stay and use the parking facilities again for future holidays and recommending to all friends and family. Well done best western it's so nice to not only have value for money but be greated with a friendly face and by a helpful, sociable person. I have worked in the hospitality trade for many years and my advice would be to keep Petra she is an absolute gem and really made the start of my holiday a stress free and happy one. :)

« Could do MUCH better. »

Room perfectly clean. Think the mattress must have been upside down. Not comfy at all. Bar/Restaurant badly understaffed and menu nothing like the advertised one. Waitress does a grand job under the circumstances. Arriving back at 11am NOWHERE to get a cup of tea/coffee unless you go to Sainsburys nearby. For the price the hotel serves it purpose but could do so much better.

« Hard to know where to start and none of it is good! »

The call to be collected by the "courtesy" bus (which it turns out they charge £3 or £5 per person for) took forever to be answered. Bus took nearly 30 minutes and was overfull so people were waiting nearly an hour. The guy at check in was terrible - clearly had no training whatsoever. Handed out a room key. No comment on which floor it was on. Wanted any extras like the return to the airport paid up front. Also can not put food or drink on the room (apparently like all the airport hotels according to our reception/check in person - clearly not true). At least the room was ok and reasonably clean but that won't be enough to tempt us back unless it's under new management.

    « Not Great »

We booked this hotel for our overnight stay with parking for our honeymoon. Upon arrival check in was fine and we did park alright although it seemed busy. We looked at the restaurant but everyone sat in there looked utterly miserable and didn't seem impressed. It was really stuffy in there too so we decided to eat at the harvester down the road. The bedroom was OK but a very small double bed. Annoyingly we were told the minibus was full so had to pay for a taxi but it was only £6. The worse part for us and hence the negative review was our return visit back to collect our car. It was absolute chaos in the carpark with people blocking others and no spaces for arriving people. There was a queue at reception and all I wanted was our car keys but the receptionist was on her own trying to check people in, check people out, give out car keys and answer the phone. I cannot fault her, she was so apologetic and polite and a credit to this shambles of a hotel but she tried to do much answering the phone and keeping us all waiting. I waited nearly thirty mins to eventually get our keys. God knows about other guests at the airport trying to call for a pick up. The worrying thing however is the security. As the receptionist was doing a hundred things at once she asked us to write our number plate down on a scrap of paper and sign. However as she was on the phone she didn't even check our signature against the register when we signed the car in. We could have looked for an expensive four by four in the car park and walked away with the keys and the car!! We were then blocked in and had to wait again to get out. After a long flight and needing to get home this was the last thing we needed. The hotel isn't expensive but I cannot belive it is genuinley a Best western hotel and that they allow this chaos to continue. Book at your peril, there are no staff and security isnt good. Ps the shower was awful. Dribbled out.

    « Parking Nightmare »

Stayed here for one night en route to an educational course. Room was fine, clean and comfortable, although water pressure in the shower was a bit naff. Breakfast was adequate. Tried to eat dinner here so as not to have to move car overnight but restaurant/bar is small and needed to book for dinner. There was however a very good Harvester up the road and a Beefeater a little further on. Casual parking was a nightmare. The website picture shows a relatively modern building with ample parking out front but in reality every corner of the car park was crammed. They offer a stay and park package for the airport and there is a constant stream of people coming and going with an employee parking vehicles constantly.

« Fantastic bed a good nights sleep »

We had a fantastic nights sleep here and the room was very clean. Breakfast was excellent with a great cooked breakfast that was very hot. Would stay here any time. Thank you. The bathroom was very good and spotless.

    « Budget airport stop »

As airport hotels go this one actually isn't bad. The room I had was reasonably priced, it was clean and even had a faint smell of new paint. It was a comfortable enough stay but for the fact that the room was quite noisy - often an issue at airports with guests coming and going at odd hours of the night for flights. If you're staying here I would recommend ear plugs, but that's a good general tip for most hotels to be honest. The other issue they had was the restaurant. The wait for a table was, I was told, an hour. When I did get seated, in less time than was stated the service was speedy and attentive and the food was OK for the type of place it is. Other guests appeared to use the hotel regularly from their comments and it seemed the night I stayed was below expectations for some from the comments I heard. It's a comfy, clean, budget stay, 10 mins from the airport and it's value for money. If you want your holiday to start at the airport hotel, maybe spend a bit more

    « Nothing Fancy »

Used this for a stay and park package, could not fault the price. Not the easiest place to find but it is just across the road from a Sainsbury petrol station. Very busy on arrival and short of staff, it took longer than it should to check in and hand over my car. The reception soon fills up with people and luggage. Room was OK, clean with everything we needed, the air-con worked so no road noise. Breakfast, extra charge, was good and cooked fresh. Minibus to airport was prompt, extra charge again, driver is a gem. Return minibus was a bit chaotic but we got there, car seemed OK with no obvious damage. All in all....not too bad and would use again. One thing for the owner....get more staff, guests will not tolerate hanging about waiting for you.

    « Terrible resturant »

Stopped here for one night due to working in the area.Room was good with a nice power shower.just the resturant that let it down food was terrible. It's advertised as indian resturant, which we were looking forward too but after sitting down we soon found out it wasn't.ordered our food which took ages then when it come out food was wrong.ordered pie chips gravy and peas.they brought out pie and salad.we couldnt wait to get out so asked for bill which we had to wait another 10 min for when bill arrived it was wrong tried to charge us for a pint of coke which we never had then had the cheek to charge a service charge which we never payed.Avoid better off having a takeaway or goin to garage over the road.

« It's not what it says on the tin!!! »

So we booked the skylane hotel for a 1 night stay with parking for 7 days, hmmmmm I won't beat about the bush it's a con, to be quite frank!! It's not a Best Western hotel by any means so don't be fooled online, WHICH IS JUST WRONG. As for the restaurant you just might as well go down the road to the local retail park where there is a host of food outlets better than faulty towers. Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish. And before I forget you have to leave your car key with them so they can park it (cram it in) more like. You also sign a disclaimer to say if any damaged occurs to your car it's not their fault!!!!!! BOOK THIS AT YOUR PERIL........

    « Restaurant service awful »

Booked in here for an overnight stay after a successful stay on previous visit. On our first visit we had a tasty and reasonable Indian meal which we enjoyed, so we prebooked and prepaid for an evening meal. After being seated in the restaurant, at our allotted time we waited unsuccessfully for over one hour for our order to be taken. In the end we gave up and tried to get a sandwich in the garage across the road. There seemed to be something seriously wrong here. (The hotel room however was satisfactory, but the evening in the restaurant has put us off from using this hotel again).

    « Great stay »

This is the second year in a row we have stayed here and apart from a small blip when we got to our room, and someone had obviously checked into the room prior to is doing so, we were immediately moved to another room as apparently the previous occupant had not liked the room and wanted to move, but not before he took off his cheesy socks and left them on the dressing table, gobbed up flem in the sink and laid on the bed!! Can't fault the receptionist, who apologised profusely and moved us straight away! The biggest disappointment was that the restaurant no longer served the delicious Indian food, and there was a very large group, so the food was taking about an hour. We decided on ordering pizza from the takeaway down the road. Room was very clean and very nice! See you next year!

    « Just awful »

Car parking spaces were taken by people on holiday (so no room to park), reception is not always manned, so you have to wait a long time to check in or out. The rooms were very basic, no complimentary toiletries or biscuits to go with tea/coffee. Only 2 towels per room. Stayed in a double room which wasn't big enough to swing a cat, let alone 2 people sleep in there! Ate in the restaurant which was run by only 2 people and had to wait an hour before my food arrived from which I had chronic indigestion all night. I also suffered indigestion from eating their cooked breakfast, so find somewhere else to eat or bring your own food as Tesco is just around the corner. The hotel does not offer room service, have a gym or swimming pool.

« Clean room but bit bland »

Having missed our flight home we had to find accommodation at 2200hrs at night, all of the hotels closer to Gatwick were fully booked and all I could find was the Best Western. Three star hotel which doesn't look anything special when searching on the Internet. I secured a double room at short notice for £185 for a night, this seemed very expensive for an average hotel. On arrival the receptionist was very friendly and the room was clean and well appointed. The hotel itself could do with a makeover as there is more atmosphere on the moon than in the expensive bar. Breakfast was very basic with a frugal selection and possibly the weakest coffee I have sampled for quite some time. I would stay there again, but only if there was nothing else available. Judging by the number of cars packed into the hotel car park I assume that the hotel offers a package where you can leave your car whilst away. Clean and tidy but you are not exactly spoilt whilst there. If you are looking for a hotel fairly close to Gatwick then you could do a lot worse.

    2
« They dump your car on wasteland at the back of the hotel and try to get you to sign that they are not responsible for it »

When we arrived we waited a long time as no one was at reception. When a man came he was rude and abrupt. The form we had to sign said that the hotel is not responsible for any damage etc to your vehicle. Well, considering that they move it and it is on their land this is somewhat wishful thinking on their part. We crossed out this statement before signing the form and would suggest this to everyone else. The room was OK for the price. The bed had seen better days. When we landed, tired and jetlagged, we spent half an hour trying to get them to answer the phone to come and pick us up which was very distressing as we just wanted to get home as you do after a long flight. We nearly got to the stage of calling a taxi just so that we could get our car back. Eventually their bus arrived and we got back there, again service was very slow and our car was covered in mud, making us wonder where it had been. We will not be using again.

    2
« Room functional but staff/customer service & restaurant very poor »

We booked 2 rooms for the night before we flew on our 11 night holiday, with parking for 2 cars. The restaurant had a very minimal menu and the service was very slow, food just about acceptable. The room was fine as was just for a night's sleep before our flight. On our return after a 9 1/2 hour flight at around 9 am (I was tired) we got to the pick-up point for the shuttle transfer and dialled the number for the Skylane hotel. It took ages for them to answer, they asked my name and how many guests, all good so I thought. When the bus arrived there were a few other guests that turned up after ourselves, so we had a 'debate' about who was first. We did manage to solve this amicably but as far as I am concerned, the hotel should resolve this rather than a ?not my issue, first come first served' which was their response when questioned. When I went to get my car keys, the gentleman on reception said I needed to pay an additional nights parking, this was in part my fault as I had written the date of our return as the day before due to it being a night flight and me writing the flight date rather than actual return, however the actual dates had all been agreed with the booking agent and I had mentioned my error to a different receptionist when we left the hotel 11 nights previously who told me not a problem. The man was adamant I needed to pay the additional £6.50 which I could not understand but I paid to shut him up as his attitude left a lot to be desired, he said he was just an employee and to take it up with the booking agent! When driving home I realised he had thought I had exceeded the 15 night maximum stay, I called them when I got home and they did send me a cheque for the £6.50, but if he had just checked the paperwork (his job) rather than arguing with me (tired customer - paying his wages) it would have been avoided. In summary, rooms fine, restaurant poor and customer service non-existent. Personally I would not use this hotel again, I just wish I had read the reviews on here before booking as there seems to be a bit of a theme around the 2 issues we had. What I hadn't realised until I complained to Best Western was that they do not own the hotel it is run privately but with the Best Western badge, which means if you disagree with the hotel, Best Western refer you to the hotel to resolve it, very professional! I didn't even think it was a cheap option. Next time I shall book something with a decent chain (that actually manages the hotels) and a cab/minibus that has my name on it, book this one at your own risk!

« Ok but poor customer service »

The stay was fine (only one night). However, on arrival at the hotel I had to wait a while to check in as no one was at the desk. Then when someone did arrive, he asked for my name, then decided to deal with someone else so he than had to ask for my name again a few minutes later. Not impressed. I then ordered a taxi for 3.30 the following morning, got to reception in good time, only to find out there had been some sort of confusion and so the receptionist had to ring for a taxi which didn't show up until nearly 3.50. Just as well I left loads of time before my flight! As mentioned above, the stay was fine but make sure your transport gets sorted out properly!!

    3
« Rooms where the best bit »

Very slow to check in, but when i did the rooms where surprisingly modern compared to the exterior of the hotel. The bar and restaurant is small with an overworked barman and waitress. The restaurant very limited to fish and chips, scampi and chips, burgers or pizza's.

    2
    « Very Poor »

On arrival the car parking was poor as most of it taken up by what looked like airport parking which was not mentioned on the web when I booked. The chap in receptione was very pleasent. In my room I tried to put the TV on but no reception so I did a retune of the TV but nothing, was about to go and complain but had a look rould to find out the ariel connectionhad been removed from the wall socket! Why? Went into the bathroom only to see tea or coffee stains on the floor and a part opened teabag sacheton the floor by the toilet. The handbasin still had the remains from someone shaving in the morning which I had to clean upAlso not mentioned on the web when booking was the resturant was Indian, and not being fond of that I walked to the petrol station and got a sandwich. I should have complained but after a five hour awful drive I just couldn't be bothered. Won't be staying there again

    « Very good! »

Me and my partner stayed here for just 1 night as we were flying early from gatwick the following morning. We payed £99 for 1 nights stay and to park our car there for the week which I thought was pretty reasonable. On arrival the hotel looked nice, when we got into the hotel we were told that we had an option of either leaving our car there for the week and taxing/busing to the airport or he would give us some vouchers to park at gatwick long stay for the week to save us worrying about the taxi/bus journey from the hotel to the airport both ways and then our car would be here when we arrive back. (What a bonus) on the voucher it said that the voucher was actually worth £104. As to why we got this I'm not sure, but I'm not going to argue it. When we got into the hotel room I was pleasantly surprised how nice it looked. It was clean, nicely decorated and felt homely. The only downside was we had single beds that couldn't be pushed together, I asked the man at the reception if he had a room with a double bed and he changed us over with no issues. He was also very helpful as he printed our boarding passes as well. Wifi was also very good. Overall, a nice stay.

    « Professional, Courteous Staff »

We had a one-night stay before flying out from Gatwick. The hotel was good value as included the week's parking in the price. There was plenty of parking when we arrived. As we had a very early flight we couldn't make use of the shuttle bus (£3 pp) as that starts at 6.30am, however the check in clerk took care of arranging for an early morning taxi for us. This all happened as planned, so no stress on getting to the airport on time! The room was ok, fairly compact for a family of 4, but it was ok for just the one night. It was clean and outside noise was minimal. Tea & coffee are provided, but we could've done with a few more than 2 single plug sockets. The attached restaurant does large, pub grub type, meals. The waitress service was good, but beware that service charges are automatically added to the bill. The only criticism was the absolutely dreadful, booming music. I don't even know how to describe the genre, it reminded me of a very bad mariachi band. All in all, a good choice for a stopover before flying out from Gatwick

« Hotel OK, drop off and pick up good, restaurant like Fawlty Towers except not funny »

Hotel was basic but did the job. Airport drop off and pick up very good. Restaurant looks good but in all honesty it is the worst meal and service I have ever had in the UK. We even apologised to some USA visitors on the next table for the appalling service.

« Only good for a bed before flying »

The bedroom was fine BUT the restaurant is dismal, shoddy and soulless. The inglenook fireplace is screened off but a large screen TV was screwed to the brickwork . The decor was dull, workmanship poor. The food was stodge directly from the freezer.

Nice clean, quite. Like that you can leave your car in hotel carpark. Bar well stocked, restaurant had reasonable choice of food. Served hot. Would I stay here again, yes. Check out very straight forward. Taxi ride to Gatwick is £6

    « Basic but good »

Only stopping overnight before flying out. Easy to find and reception welcome easy and quick. Room basic but good, clean and well layer out for the size. Towels looking a bit tired and TV remote not working even after a change of battery, The breakfast was ok nothing special for the £15 cost but please change your coffee a big let down.

    « Absolute disgrace! »

Arrived to find car park with cars just abandoned anywhere! Check in took forever, rooms VERY hot & stuffy with air con barely functioning, restaurant was very dated and food very basic and dry! Glasses were dirty and as I picked mine up it broke due to large crack Main concern was on arrival from our 10 day holiday to collect car,my car wouldn't start, when I spoke to reception he was far from helpful and said maybe was the battery,I asked to speak to manager and I was ignored, after having to raise my voice he said manager wasn't in and wouldn't be in until tomorrow,I had a 2 hour drive ahead of me to get home and car would not start, another guest who was checking in kindly came outside and assisted me and finally got car to start, the service from this hotel was absolutely disgusting and after reading the reviews on here I would strongly advise anyone considering to stay here to reconsider,I will not be staying here again and would certainly not leave my car here!!

« Do not waste your money! »

We stayed here after returning from holiday and leaving our car for the 13 days before. Firstly when we come to drop the car off, although they advertise a free shuttle, we were informed the shuttle was "out of order" for the next hour or so so we would need to pay for a taxi, when in fact the shuttle was actually picking up the housekeeping supply's! But anyway we were happy honeymooners and wouldn't let this worry us and just paid for a taxi! On our return we got to the hotel at 12am and there were some people trying to check in at the same time, who had just been informed that the hotel had overbooked and would need to drive to another hotel 10 minutes away. I did feel a little sorry for the guy on the desk because the decision obviously wasn't his however his attitude and the fact he took 20minutes of arguing to call the manager just isn't acceptable when you have a queue of people waiting to check in! (Guys I hope you got a room)) we finally checked in and luckily had a room. We had been informed by another guest sat in reception that the aircon wasn't working in any of the rooms and the rooms were stuffy. By this point we were so tired and not very bothered by this however before we were finally given our room key these guest were told their aircon was now working, and as a result so was ours. Reading reviews as I write this i don't think the aircon has ever worked and low and behold when we got to our room it didn't work, and 10 minutes later we saw the other guests sat in reception again, so why lie about it being fixed... People will notice! We ended up sleeping with the window open resulting in the worst night sleep due to trains/planes and cars being moved around in the car park really early! We were married in a best western hotel and decided to book this through thompsons thinking we knew what we are getting but there is no way this hotel is worthy of the Best Western name!

« A night booked for our newly married friends »

As a gift to our best friends we thought we would book them a nice room after a long day getting married. We called up the day before to confirm our booking, to be told everything was fine and they were looking forward to our friends arriving. Then we arrive. The lovely night porter swearing at the people in the front of us in the queue, being told they had to get a taxi to Gatwick. There's me hoping and praying that wouldn't be the case for our newly married friends (with a 1 year old). But you've guessed it, despite paying 5 months ago they were told there was no room and they'd have to go to another hotel. A lot of arguing later somehow they found a room for our friends to stay in. Really not happy and I will be expecting a full refund. Disgusting treatment of customers.

    « Standard »

I stayed here for just the one night on a business trip to the area. Upon arriving in the car park, it became abundantly clear that this was a stay, park & fly type of place. Check in was quick and efficient, and my room was perfectly functional. Everything worked, which is a good sign, and I have to say that the aircon was exceptional. As was the hotel wi-fi; a good strong signal and no dropouts. The food in the restaurant was actually quite good, and served piping hot. But the breakfast was a bit of a let down if I'm honest. Poorly presented and tree seemed to be lots of staff collecting plates, cutlery etc., but nobody keeping the breakfast hot plates topped up. Checkout was as equally quick and efficient as checking in. Would I return? I think I'd like to try other hotels in the area first if I were to back this way again.

« It is what it is. »

I stayed here for 5 nights for work - it is an airport parking and 1 night stay hotel. I cant coment on the shuttle as i had no need for it, but that said i did see it both in and out of the car park. The carpark is tight - but its an airport parking car park and they have to squeeze as many in as they can. The carpark looks like chaos, but having watched them moving cars around, it is actually really organised ! My room was basic but clean, there was a but of coridoor noise due to people coming and going, but i have experienced worse. Granted - I wouldnt want to stay here for a holiday, but i will be using it again for work. My biggested issue really was the resturant - it claims to be an Indian resturant, but when you go in, it isnt, aparently they havnt done that for ages..... The food in the returant was overpriced and extremly slow, annoyingly there really isnt a lot else around foodwise.

« First bad review but this deserves it »

This is my first bad review and I am not a moaner and normally put up with stuff but after the response I had to a cal to the reception it was the straw that broke the camels back ,,,, hotel is very old and tired and not even kept clean but it is only a stop over hotel so I could deal with that but first the restaurant took over an hour to serve our food , the food was dry and mainly wrong but trying to get the staff to correct would of been another hour , staff we not helpful or polite , and we was told the hotel runs a bus every half hour but was told the only available slot was over an hour before or after the time we needed to catch our flight and was had 2 children so could take any chances but the topper was when I could get the air conditioning to work I phoned the reception to ask how to get it to work as it was a very humid night I was told it wasn't working and then after a while he admitted none of it works (I doubt it ever has ) then said I can just open the window and will be "alright " which if you wasn't above the hotel entrance with people arriving and leaving all night so none of us slept at all would of been ok

    « Don't even think about it.... »

In one word this hotel was horrendous! We booked ahead for 8 days of parking and one nights stay. We arrived late with a toddler and a 6 month old,to start the parking was an absolute shambles...no order to it and cars were bumper to bumper. It was very difficult to manoeuvre around the car park and there was no guidance. We ended up paying to park at Gatwick itself as we had no confidence that our car wouldn't be damaged! It certainly isn't a secure car park. Service on the front desk was appalling, the guy was rude and incredibly unhelpful. Despite having indicated we required a cot on booking he was surprised by this....he did find us a cot and dumped it outside our room telling us we had to set it up as this wasn't something they did!! The air conditioning was broken and the rooms were horribly stuffy and uncomfortable. We were moved but it turns out they knew the air con was broken in that whole wing so it made no difference. We opened the windows only for the room to be filled with the stench of smoke from the guests gathered outside reception smoking. We have been offered a partial refund but really the staff need training in how to provide customer service and they shouldn't be allowed to offer parking as they do! We will now always use the long stay instead. As there are so many other options for park and fly I would highly recommend you go somewhere else!

« Transport from airport after midnight »

We stayed one night b&b with 15 nights parking and paid separate for the evening meal. We thought the budget hotel was fine. We had a good clean room, and the meals were good. The disaster problem was the fact that the hotel did not provide a shuttle after midnight from Gatwick airport. Instead they gave us a taxi number to call. We headed out of the terminal at 2.30am, phoned the number and was told to go and wait outside the premier inn hotel, and after a bit of drag we did. We waited and waited then phoned the taxi number again. 'Sorry you are in the wrong place' was the reply. 'Go across the other side of the road.' We dragged our suitcases again across a mayhem of traffic, only to find complete chaos with cars and taxis and people and cases everywhere crowding along the pavement . The noise was terrible. I phoned the taxi again pushing the phone to my ear. 'Look out for a silver Toyota', was the reply..Half an hour later I was about to phone again but noticed two missed calls on my phone. 'Hell,' I said to my wife I couldn't even hear my phone because of all the noise and people shouting. I phoned the missed call. 'I have driven around twice and couldn't see you, sorry I have left the area now,' was the taxi drivers comment to me 'You are .... joking,' I replied. We came out of the terminal 1 hour and twenty min ago and were freezing and still no taxi...Until a kind lady police officer took over and telephoned the taxi number. Ten minutes later, she stood in the road and stopped the traffic and led the taxi to us. This was our first not to have a shuttle at Gatwick and the last. We couldn't see our taxi and the taxi driver didn't have a clue who to look for, they are not allowed to wait, they are moved on immediately because of the chaos.

« Ok but too concerned about the parking issues to use again!! »

Stayed here on 10th Aug before flying out to Budapest very early the next morning, did stay here once when it was a Days Inn but you had to drive to an airport car park the following day then. My partner didn't check the reviews on TA before booking it again as he hadn't realised it was what had been the Days Inn or that the parking was now on site. We managed to get parked sensibly in what was quite a full car park, the shuttle bus doesn't start til 6am and we needed to leave the hotel at 3.45am and so requested a taxi that reception order for you. We didn't bother to eat at the hotel and stopped at a pub on the way down as the indian food was elusive last time we were there and we had reviews about the food not being brilliant. Overall the room was fine, quiet and the bed comfy. We got up and headed down to reception for 3.40am and was staggered to find the reception foyer full of people trying to get to the airport and and a stressed out guy behind the desk demanding the taxi company start sending some taxi's to get people moved. This became a worry really as taxi's started to turn up in one's and two's and the drivers would call people by shouting out your room number which I didn't like especially as people were rushing towards taxi's and could have easily lied about what room number they were in to hijack someone else's taxi! Eventually we finally got a taxi 30 mins after the time we had wanted it for! On our return we landed at 9.40am so rang for the shuttle to come and get us, firstly make sure you ring at the earliest opportunity as it took at least 30 mins to get picked up, if you do wait until you get to the bus stop, bare in mind that the number the hotel is listed as at the stop is still under the name of Day's Inn. The elderly gent that collected us was lovely though, he is an asset to the hotel. We returned to find our car had been moved and parked in a very haphazard fashion very close to other cars - it's not hard to see how cars are getting damaged in there and at no point did we realise that on check in we were signing a form to allow them to trash cars!! The car and taxi thing is a bit off putting in terms of using this hotel in future!

« Overnight Pre Flight Stay »

Having booked this hotel for an overnight stay prior to flying out of Gatwick I wasn't hopeful having read some of the reviews. I have to say it did just the job. I will say that I am glad I wasn't leaving my car there as the car park was rammed full. The rooms however were much better than some airport hotels I have stayed in. They were clean and tidy with a modern bathroom, air con and double glazed Windows. We didn't eat there, but had a drink in the bar which was fine and not overpriced. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay again but would avoid leaving my car there as I am quite precious about it....!!!

    « Great value package »

We stayed here overnight before our flight and found a great value package through Holiday Extras, including an overnight stay with parking followed by 8 days parking at Purple Parking. ..just £3 more than the price of car parking alone! Yes, it's a basic no frills budget hotel but it was surprisingly quiet and we had a good night's stay with no problems. It was basic but clean. You certainly wouldn't be expecting luxury at these prices but for convenience and value it was incredible. I'd definitely use them again.

« Good Value for Money with a stay and fly package »

Large clean comfortable rooms and not too far from Gatwick Airport. 1st choice went needing to park the car for a couple of weeks and stay the night before your flight. Paid £99 for room with 15 nights' car parking for 2 adults and a child plus £15 mini bus transfers. Had to pay an additional £6.50 extra day parking as flight delayed upon return.

    « Functional hotel »

This hotel was just what we needed for a night before an early morning flight from Gatwick. The price of the hotel with parking was reasonable which is why we booked. The rooms were clean and the service when we arrived was prompt and efficient. When we returned to collect the car after our holiday it had been moved to the front of the car park and collecting the keys was once again easy and quick - we were back on the road within 5 minutes. The hotel does offer a bus to the airport but it's worth checking because we found that a taxi was cheaper for a family of 4.

    « Relieved with a positive stay »

Stayed here for just one night before flight from gatwick and made use of parking deal. Was concerned when I read previous reviews but had no problems at all. Clean and quiet room and car ready and waiting on return. The shuttle to the airport doesn't start until 6am so had to get a taxi to the airport but quick and efficient service on the return. Lovely pub just round the corner too.

    « Excellent value hotel & stay »

This is our fifth visit to this hotel. We always stay here before flying out of gatwick. If you are looking for the Ritz with 5***** service then this isn't the place for you however, for a very good value family room this is an excellent place. The room we have is a quadruple with 1 double & 2 single beds. We are a family of 4 with teenagers and most hotels sting us for 2 rooms so this is good value at £81. The beds are comfy with nice bed linen. The bathroom is clean with everything you need. The room is cramped as they have squeezed the 4 beds in but nevertheless a good nights sleep. Plenty of tea & coffee for 4 people. The breakfast is £5.50 extra each and is adequate. There is a choice of cereal, juices, tea, coffee etc and a grill your own toast machine. They bring you up s plated full English which is fair, plenty of it but pretty cheap ingredients however, good value and a good start to the day. The restaurant now. This year the Indian food has gone as apparently the chef has left. The food we had was not the best, cheap ingredients, basic pub food but at restaurant prices. £96 for the 4 of us. Definitely not worth the effort or money. The service was poor to say the least, portions small and generally defrosted frozen food of cheap quality. It's a real shame as we've always enjoyed the food on other visits. Again, bar service slow and drinks expensive. Will definitely return but would probably make alternative arrangements for dinner.

    « one night stay »

My family and I stayed for one night before our holiday . Luckily my husband phoned beforehand and double checked our booking, they had booked us a double room instead of a family room. The room itself was ok if a bit cramped but fine for one night. However the carpark leaves a lot to be desired, its more a piece of waste ground not an actual carpark. Expect a very dusty car on your return. We had to get a taxi to the airport which was fine as we had an early flight, but got their transfer back. Beware as its a complete con. Their website states £3 for a single journey or £5 return. They charged us £9 for a single trip . Taxi firms only charge £6.Needless to say we were not impressed but after a long day travelling we just wanted to get home. Wont make the same mistake again.

    « good place-great price »

This hotel is very handy to Gatwick airport and very reasonably priced. there is a shuttle which comes regularly between airport and hotel for a reasonable fee. Staff friendly and courteous, nice little town to explore for the evening well within walking distance to hotel.

    « Fawlty Towers »

Thankfully this hotel was used more for an overnight stop for Gatwick Airport than for any longer stay. Fawlty Towers is alive and well and prevalent in every way in this shambles of a hotel. On arrival we had to park on the main road as there was no space in the car park. It would seem they are more than happy to double and triple park vehicles as the hotel looks to be a drop off for lots of Gatwick travellers. Given we had a hire car for the day that needed returning to the airport when we left I was incredibly nervous to leave it anywhere near any of the other cars as they appeared to be haphazardly parked. The hotel's outlook is old, drab, and badly in need of servicing. It appears rundown and the staff do not appear to have a clue. We were one of the lucky ones in that they had our room and booking, but we saw several other guests arriving as we did only to be told they had no rooms available and were booked out (even though said guests had proof of booking). It was shambolic. Our room looked very tired, was definitely in need of new bedding, new curtains, pretty much new everything. Same in the bathroom. Again, we were thankful it was only a night we had to stay. The restaurant followed the theme of the hotel. Hardly any guests in but apparently when we ordered pizza for our son of 8 and a pizza and chips to share for my wife and I we were told it would take 45mins because pizza takes a long time it seems. When it finally arrived my sons pizza was nothing more than a Chicago Town bought pizza with chips while ours looked like a supermarket frozen pizza with some odd bits of wafer thin ham chucked on top... 45mins and almost £30 for this was a joke. The lessons to learn here are simple... I was drawn to book this hotel because of price and apparent location to the airport. Don't always believe what you read (the hotel is about 15mins in the car in a suburb away from the airport) or go on price. So glad we only stayed here to get to the airport.

    « One night stay »

My daughter and I stayed for one night before driving to park at Purple Parking Gatwick. The parking is very tight and busy, but I managed to get a space. The check in was good. The room basic, but very clean. The restaurant lacks atmosphere and smelt a bit funny, so we walked into Horley for dinner, it was fine for breakfast though and the food was OK, just the cooked breakfast was tasty, but a little greasy. Would stay again.

    « What a difference »

We stayed at another great western in Colchester for my daughter's wedding which I cannot fault in any way at all , now we arrived at this hotel what a difference waited ages to book in room had holes in the curtains went for dinner waited 20min to be seated there were only 8 people in the restaurant then waited another 20 to be served a child was in and out of the kitchen only about 4years old I would not recommend this hotel to anyone we only booked it because of our stay at the other hotel in Colchester will not be making that mistake again

« Not fit to have Best in it's name...car park with rooms »

Having stopped at this hotel several times it has gone from bad to worse. Last weeks stay was the worst ever. On arrival couldn't even park in the car park . Total chaos cars abandoned triple parked and other cars blocked in. Was given my room which was clean with comfy bed and powerful shower. Air con wasn't working properly and had to have windows wide open so I had the pleasure of hearing the staff attempting to move cars around at the rear car park and moving cars to the front for people arriving back from there holiday. I was woken up at 6.15 in the morning from some member of staff wanting me to move my car as there where now spaces available away from the hotel entrance. I ate in the restaurant the service and food was appalling so meal was sent back and left before it reappeared. The waiter just dumped the plate on the table and walked off no offer of condiments cold chips and a warm sauce poured all over the salad. The staff and service at this hotel is substandard and certainly goes down as one of the worst Best Western hotels I have stopped at. I watched as a member of staff walked around the car park in darkness with a basket of keys pressing fobs and looking for the indicators of vehicle to go off before he could move the vehicle. A WORD OF WARNING if you hand your keys to the hotel whilst you are on holiday and your car is damaged or stolen your insurance will say you are not covered. Ask the hotel to see if they have an insurance policy covering damage to guest vehicles and also does cover for damage whilst staff are driving it. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel and I have finished with it and won't be going back.

    « Ok for a night »

Shower was poor. They provided a wobbly ironing board and a poor quality iron. Apart from that, overall a good experience. Finding parking place can be tricky, especially during school holiday time. The rooms are good size. Breakfast fine- not much variety- but sufficient.

    « Strange experience »

Room comfortable, hotel relatively easy to find, organisation of vehicle parking seemed chaotic. Restaurant service seemed to be needing room for improvement, the guys that transported us to/from the airport very helpful, HOWEVER we were informed that when we returned we MAY need to look for the phone number of the DAYS INN. (previous owners), to arrange transport back to be reunited with our car. Sadly after travelling for 20+ hours, this minor detail was forgotten, so the information on the board at Gatwick was worse than useless. Please please please update that notice board - it's not difficult, and improve on restaurant service and everything is cool. We were here when it was a Day's Inn and you need to work on a couple of things to get it back to that level.... We will be back to check !!

    « No customer,service »

When we arrived after a 3 and half drive the fist thing we was greater was move your car closer to the other car only so they can cram lots more cars in. The guy on reception seemed to be doing several jobs. There was no welcome and he couldn't find our booking so started checking someone else in. He finally found our booking and just gave us a key and told us the room number. He never gave any directions to our room we ended up walking round the hotel to find our room. We had to guess what time breakfast was as never told. The breakfast wasn't the best and we had to sit in a dark room during breakfast. Be careful as the stair guards are loose and nearly tripped down them. Poor maintenance throught the hotel. The shower needed to run for ages until any hot water came through. On exit there was a guy in the back office just shouted through to leave our key on the top. No customer service. We are due to come back to Gatwick in 6 weeks to take a family member to the airport and we will definitely NOT be booking this hotel for our stay.

    « Pre flight stay »

Very convenient for my early morning flight. 5 minute drive from LGW. Worth staying for 1 night but wouldn't recommend more than that. Room reasonable size and comfortable. Bar/eating area little atmosphere. Parking for plenty of cars but had some difficulty finding a space. Slept with window open and lots of aircraft noise.

« Appalling service. Needs to improve greatly. »

Booked through best western phoneline 7 adults/3 rooms - 2 doubles, 1 quad (1 double 2 singles- wanted a triple singles room but not available so had to pay extra for the quad). Also holiday parking for 2 cars. Good points. .Nice rooms. Good beds. Clean. Nice. bathrooms. Accomodation perfect. .sainsbury petrol/shop over the road, great for breakfast pastries and fruit. .Resonable price. Bad points. Service apalling. The reception man argued with us over what we had booked. Changed his mind 3 times. First it was 3 doubles. Then 1 double 1 twin. Finally offering 2 doubles and a triple twin. Told him and showed him confirmation that we had paid extra for quad room. Still he argued. We agreed to take the triple twin just to put an end to it (which was actually what we had wanted in the first place but was told it wasnt available and had to pay extra). Finally we were given our room keys and found he had still sneakily given us twin rooms not doubles which had a fixed bedside table between each bed. We had to go back and queue again to get him to change it. In the morning we ordered the buffet breakfast for 4 of us. Big mistake. The table was laid with only 2 teacups with drops of tea in them still and used teaspoons. No knives only forks and spoons. No side plates for toast but then no bread for toast either. No orange juice, milk or butter, had to ask for it to be replenished. There were other empty serving dishes but we didnt ask for them to be replenished as we never got to see what was on them in the first place. There were no orange juice glasses so asked for some, the ones that were brought were dirty. Cutlery was also dirty. The hot food when brought was ok surprisingly and we didnt get ill. We had eaten dinner in their restaurant the night before which was fine. Small portions but inexpensive pub grub so thats why we thought we would be ok with the breakfast. The only good thing was that 3 of our party had stayed in bed! Amongst our check in info we were given a small slip of paper offering a promotional price for breakfast if booked when checking in. Because of the dispute over the rooms when checking in we didnt notice it til late at night. In the morning when we asked about it the receptionist said she wasnt authorised to allow the discount but if we paid in full they would get their manager to call us to authorise a refund of the difference. This call never happened. As mentioned above we should Have definately gone over to sainsbury for pastries and fruit. .They offer a shuttlebus service to/from the airport (£3pp) however this stops at 11.40pm. Our flight was an hour later than this so couldnt have it. This seems crazy. .On returning (in taxis) we collected the car keys. Tried to unlock my car to find my key had been broken and was only just usable. We had to go back in to speak to the reception man who had not mentioned a thing about it when he had handed it over. He told us that his driver had informed him of it already. We asked for a short note to confirm that he acknowledged it had been broken there. He was extemely evasive. Kept saying we can call in the morning. In the end we managed to get him to scribble something on the back of a hotel business card. Even then he didnt write anything very clearly. We had to email the manager today. Last year we stayed at Gatwick Ibis. Much better hotel. Would have done the same this year but they dont allow 3 in a room. This was the only reason we chose skylane.

« Reasonable price for reasonable hotel »

This was a reasonably priced hotel near to an event I was attending. The room was clean and ok. The meal was decent and well priced. Parking was a little tight, but I managed to find a space. Disappointed that the bar was closed at 10.30 when I returned, but reception staff pointed me in the direction of a 24 hour garage locally...

    « Disappointing stay »

We booked this hotel as we were attending a wedding around the corner. Upon arrival, we checked in ok and went up to our room. The room was basic, nothing particularly special about it. We went down to breakfast the next morning which was alright, we were asked if we wanted a cooked breakfast - however there was no option as to what you wanted included so if there was any allergy's or anything you didn't want, you had to state it at that point. The breakfast came fairly quickly. However once we had finished and the plates had been cleared, we barely had time to breathe before the gentleman started clearing up the table around us. I thought this was rather rude and we took that as our que to leave. Upon checking out, there was no one on reception (even though you could see someone just sitting in the office) We had no idea what to do but everyone else had just left their cards on the surface so we did the same. Not brilliant service. The hotel itself is dated and needs a refurb. I wouldn't stay here again.

« Car damaged after stay & fly parking »

When we arrived after driving over 6 hours on a very hot day on a busy bank holiday weekend,we were very rudely received by the reception. The man said "Is that your car out there you need to park it closer to the next car as we are expecting a lot of cars" Not a hello & welcome first and then...May I ask you to park a bit closer....when your checked in. Anyway we got settled in. The room was clean & comfy to Premiere Inn sort of standard. We had an Indian meal voucher, food & service lovely. Breakfast was good too. BUT really shocked at how they park up all the cars bumper to bumper at the back of the hotel!!!!!! When we collected our car after our holiday on initial inspection it looked ok, but when we got home, we found that the underside of the rear bumper was very badly scratched which was not there when we checked the car in. It must have been caused by the way all the cars are all rammed up against one & other. Nothing we can do about it now after we had left the hotel without spotting it!! We would have used this hotel again if they hadn't damaged our car!! Be warned about how they park your car whilst your on holiday.

« Week holiday to spain »

Stayed at this conveniently located hotel overnight. Wish we had booked car parking direct with hotel but we had already arranged hotel and parking through a subsidiary company. Anyway, the hotel was very clean and comfortable and surprise quiet. It has an on site restaurant where we had our evening meal which was very good and our cooked breakfast in the morning also very good. After our meal we decided to go for a short walk to the petrol station a few minutes from the hotel where it had a sainsbury express on site so we were able to buy some things for our trip instead of at the airport. The road was very busy and noisy but it was leading to and from the airport. The staff and hotel is very good and we enjoyed our stay there. We would definitely ring direct next time to book room and car parking, as they do offer a shuttle to and from the airport.

    « OLD and TIRED »

Due to its location we decided to stay here. On getting into the room we had the biggest problem. So hot and with curtains wide open it was like an oven. Tried to turn Air Con on but nothing happened. Went to reception and was told some one would be up to look at the fault. However 20 hours later the issue was the same with sleep impossible. We went down to dinner and waited to be seated as it said but the first 2 members of staff ignored us so we found a table. With dirty glasses we should have left then but we were tired and hungry. Again we were ignored by the 2 staff members so just left and did as others have down found a place nearby. It later transpired that the AirCon has not been working for over 2 weeks so being lied to is another reason for such a poor review. On the plus side the bed in our room was very comfortable and bedding towels etc very clean and good quality. The sleep rating is so low due to the heat problem not the bed itself.

    « Do not stay »

Stayed as had an early flight. The hotel on arrival had no parking, absolutely heaving even though rang ahead to check. Cars double and triple parked. The hotel is clean and bed comfortable but absolutely boiling hot with air con that doesn't work. When I went down to ask they sent me back saying it took 15 mins....it Doesn't work just fobbed off. No food after 915pm...not explained when booking made. Very, very noisy hotel. I stay with Best Western regularly and this is the first time I've been disappointed. Another guest in reception was complaining about a drain smell in her room and the receptionist told her to spray the room with something...she said she couldn't as she had small children, felt like they couldn't be bothered.

« Rude and Untrustworthy staff »

I booked this hotel because I was very particular about area as I had to often visit work on short notice during the night. When I arrived to check in they said they were over booked and they suggested me to go to a hotel which is 10 miles away! When asked why they did not inform me they lied that they called me but I was not reachable. When I insisted my phone was always reachable, they showed me a list saying we called all these numbers. When I examined the list my number was not there. That is when I realised they were just bluffing. Finally after some argument they gave me a room and talked to me as if it was my fault!!! Room as such was good and clean.

« Ok for a stopover, typical budget hotel. »

WE arrived and managed to find a parking space and checked in. When we tried to enter our room the key wouldnt work, only for somebody to open the door as they were already in that room. Back to the desk, very little in the way of apology and given another room, got in OK. The room was basic but fine, apart from the fact that the air con didnt;t work, so we had a very hot night, We could have opened the windows, but being at the front of the hotel it was very noisy. I had researched the area and we found a really nice pub called "The Farmhouse Pub" which was about a 15 minute walk away, very nice and friendly and the food was delicious. We got a taxi from Holiday Extras £6 each way, very reasonable. When we returned to the hotel to pick our car up, there was gravel and dirt all over the (new) car mats, really disgusting and both sides, driver and passenger. We should have complained at the time, but just wanted to get on the road home.

    « Bunk down »

this hotel was like a railway station platform. Packed with travellers ingoing and outgoing to/from Gatwick. Staff that could not cope on reception. Car park was chaos at 1600 hrs. Hardly a place to park. The room was ok but being on the front had continuous car noise. They have a separate restaurant that offered evening meals. Limited menu and poor service. I waited five minutes to be acknowledged and eventually got my own table. Same restaurant for breakfast, slightly better service but certainly not worth the near ninety quid b&b. Decent Wi-Fi. Better places.

« DO NOT STAY HERE WITH PARKING »

We stayed here in July left our new car with the hotel for compound parking whilst we went on our holiday. Upon our return we found our car had rear end damage reported to manager only to suffer a torrent of abuse from him. We had to call police. Police from Surret arrived and asked the manager to give us there insurance details he refused with police. Turns out that they hold no insurance at all to drive anyone's car to compound so we are now having to issue civil action against hotel for repair bil.!!! Best western DO NOT OWN ANY HOTEL AT ALL they only allow hotels to use there brand name. BEST WESTERN.. Rang them at there head office and to be honest they didn't care and couldn't get involved explaining that they DO NOT OWN ONE HOTEL ITS JUST A BRAND NAME be warned don't be fooled. Once you hand your keys in insurance in your end won't cover damage.!!!! STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL UNINSURED DRIVERS DRIVE YOUR CAR. Surret police now investigating .

    « DON'T use the restaurant! »

We stayed here as a room/parking for our holiday. We stayed here after Thomsons (Holiday Extras) showed us the Best Western webpage. Sounded good with a choice of restaurants & food (my Wife needs Gluten Free). 1 Indian, 1 fine dinning or table d'hote or the Watershed bar with bar food. The descriptions found on the Best Western website advertising their restaurants and the reason for us booking, is by no means what is available and is a total gross misrepresentation. The 1st night was in a very tired room. We went down for dinner and asked for the Indian menu but were told "we're not doing that". We ended up with a mediocre bar meal. Our return visit after our holiday was in room 52 where the window safety catches were broken & we flushed the toilet with a filled kettle. We again went down for our meal. There was an Asian party in eating an Indian meal that the hotel restaurant had provided. We asked for the Indian menu and was told "It was only for them". However, the Diya menu was on a table next to the Watershed Bar Menu. The watershed Restaurant serving la carte or table d'hote dining does not seem to exist. We were again just offered a bar menu as they said "That's all we do". My Wifes gammon steak arrived and was sent back as the fried eggs were so over cooked that the hard yolk fell out of the white part. The waitress was rather rude about it and said "So you want your eggs rare" then went to fetch a plate and fish slice to remove the eggs from her gammon. We told her to stop, take the meals away to keep them warm while fresh eggs were prepared. She then brought them back with fresh eggs, plonked the plate down and said sharply "Better?" My Wife then removed her cooked green salad to the edge of the plate. Upon eating her folded up lump of gammon it was discovered that it was cold and raw in the center. We called the Manager who did offer another meal. However we did not accept this as all faith in the Chefs ability to provide a properly cooked Gluten Free meal was now non-existent. We have contacted Best Western as as yet have had no reply but Thomsons (Holiday Extras) is following this up.

« Avoid the onsite restaurant! »

Booked this hotel as our over night stay before our flight to Aruba the next day. Having stayed here before about 8 years ago I thought it can only have improved. Room is okay, can't complain about anything as all working fine and seems clean. However the free WIFI doesn't work. We questioned whether to drive and find a local pub or restaurant but actually decided to eat in the Watershed restaurant that is downstairs in the hotel. My advice is just don't even question it and find somewhere else! We ordered starters which were absolutely tasteless. My boyfriends beer came in a pint glass that hadn't been washed properly and was covered in tomato ketchup stains. Then our mains came out which I had the 'chicken supreme' that came with vegetables and potatoes, I began to eat and then found a dead daddy long legs looking bug hiding in my veg. Very put off at this point the waitress took it away and offered me another dish from the menu, I opted for the sirloin steak which was £2 more expensive than the chicken dish. When getting the bill, we noticed we were charged full price for the meal. Very unhappy with this and felt like we shouldn't have been charged at all for the chicken supreme meal I had picked. She refused to take off any more money and gave my boyfriend a free half pint of cider to make up for the dirty glass. Wouldn't recommend the hotel now to anyone for these reasons and will not be using this hotel again as an over night stay for a Gatwick flight.

« Handy for airport parking, but really not a great place to stay »

My wife and I booked the Skylane through Holiday Extras as part of a package deal with car parking. We left our car with the hotel and actually stayed their on our return. We found the hotel easily enough and squeezed into one of the last remaining parking spaces (they do cram in as many cars as they can!) Arrival was straightforward and we were soon on the transfer bus (£5 return) which featured a pleasant and helpful driver. We were picked up within about 15 minutes of calling the hotel on our return, and checked in at the hotel in a fairly straightforward way. Unfortunately things went downhill from this point. Our room was dated and unloved, with a light hanging from a hole in the ceiling. Hot water in the shower took some time to come through. Our main bed was rather small (I'm sure it wasn't a standard double size, though admittedly I'm not an expert on beds). The main problem was that our room was boiling hot, despite it not being overly warm outside. We tried all we could with the air conditioning and a staff member also took a look at this. After some persuasion he gave us a fan which took some of the edge off, but we had to leave our windows wide open which didn't really help give us the best night's sleep. Having said that, the room wasn't soundproof anyway so we heard other travellers coming and going during the night. My biggest criticism, however, is levelled at the extraordinarily poor breakfast. We arrived at about 8:20 to find a meagre buffet that had already been depleted. There were no plates, forks or mugs available and it took us some time to find a staff member to get some. English breakfast tea had also run out though it was replenished much later on. The industrial toaster had broken down but still had an extension cable running dangerously across the floor at the entrance to the dining room. The (untoasted) bread was stale and the other food items such as sausages were of very poor quality. In truth, I'm not surprised none of the staff members hung around to help as they would have been on a hiding to nothing. I've sent a complaint to Holiday Extras and the hotel about this experience, but in the meantime, I can only recommend you give it a wide swerve!

« Room was scorching hot & unpleasant »

I stayed here with 2 friends for a night before our flight in mid June. Our room was described as a "triple" room but it was quite clearly a double room with a single bed shoved in the corner, which meant it was very cramped although fine for just a one night stay like ours. The room was clean and beds fairly comfortable with a decent TV...however...this was a really unpleasant stay for us which is why I have rated it 1* - it was absolutely BOILING. I think this is because we were above the kitchen or laundry room possibly...not 100% sure but it wasn't helped by the fact that the windows were locked shut so there was no possibility of a breeze from the already warm evening and the aircon had completely broken. Three of us in such a tiny scorching hot room was pretty unbearable and made the whole thing really awful because it was like trying to sleep in an oven - none of us could sleep and kept having to have cold showers to cool down...shocking really. My friend told the male receptionist and he was extremely rude and couldn't care less. We also ate in the Indian restaurant whilst we were there and the food was lovely but as stated in other reviews 0 atmosphere and we also found the staff in there quite unpleasant and rude too. Unfortunately I wouldn't stay here again after our experience, which is a shame as it did suit our needs but wouldn't risk it again after this disaster.

impression on website was that hotel was close to airport departures, not the case. No shuttle bus to pick up got taxi for £10.00. There was a shuttle to take us to the airport in the morning cost £9.00. So if comparing airport prices this is £18.00 more than hotel price just to get to the hotel.

« Real lack of organisation »

We left our car there while on holiday as the parking and staying a night cost less than just carparking at Gatwick airport. We handed over our keys and waited for the taxi which was ok, only about a 10 minute wait for a 10 minute journey via the south terminal. We were not given any information as to what we needed to do when we returned from our holiday so when we left the terminal building when we landed we called the hotel and they said for us to go to the appropriate pickup place and they would be with us within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes of waiting at 10.30pm I called them again and they said that the driver had left but she had no idea what time he left. Miraculously 10 minutes later he turned up and from grabbing our bags off us to dumping them out the back of the minibus he never said a singe word. A 'hello' might have been nice. So when we got back to the hotel he put the suitcases on the ground at the back of the van and immediately got back in the driverseat waiting for us to move them out the way of the minibus. We went inside and asked for the car key to put the suitcases in the car for the night. My husband noticed first that they had moved the car which he was extremely unimpressed about as we were not told then would be driving the cars, especially without permission from us as the owner of the vehicle. Anyway, we were told by the very unhelpful receptionist that they didn't have the key to the cupboard that held the keys and the only person who had the key was the delightful driver who had just gone back to the airport. 90 minutes later he came back, we were less than impressed to say the least, the service was just appalling. We went to the room and I have to say we were very pleasantly impressed. It was clean, spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We booked a double room but in the room there was a double bed and 2 single beds so we were quite happy about that. We slept very well which was a blessing given the cock ups they had made previously. We won't be going back there because they are just so unorganised, rude, unhelpful and just don't seem to care.

    « Basic airport accommodation »

The hotel is a very basic airport hotel and fine for one night but no longer The room we had was large but the bed was a very tiny double and so uncomfortable - could definitely do with a replacement The hotels indian restaurant is very good for food on my return to the hotel after my holiday i had lost my phone - was not sure if left it in a taxi or the hotel reception. I called the hotel when i got home and the member of staff I spoke to was rude and unhelpful and would not look in the area i was for my phone - he was just not bothered I had lost it - very disappointed by this attitude and because of this i will not stay here again and would not recommend to anyone

    « OK for a night »

Stayed for one night with parking before a flight. Room was OK and relatively quiet. Didn't eat in the hotel, but had a drink. The restaurant is uninspiring, cuisine is mainly Indian, but with a number of other options. We had already booked a table at the Ye Olde Six Bells - a 20 minute stroll. Although the car park looked very full, just leave your car by the front door as the hotel parks and moves your car. They have a mini bus service to the airport, £3 each way or £5 return. On our return the bus arrived with 15 mins. Given a competitive price it's not a bad option before park and flying.

    « Stop over before a cruise »

We stayed here for one night as we were flying back into Gatwick after a Cruise from Southampton. We got the train from gatwick to Southampton. The hotel include parking and was reasonably priced. It is an okay place, conveniently located for the airport and the staff were very friendly

« Not a good night's sleep - things haven't improved since other reviews on here. »

I have read some of the other reviews on here and I am shocked by just how similar other people's experiences are to our own. So therefore somewhat dissapointed that the owner's don't appear to care or act on that feedback. I have reported it to Holiday Extras who we booked this through too. In short - We also had problems with the key card entry to the hotel, I had to go back 4 times to reception to get this sorted out, and there was only one very slow receptionist on the desk at the time. - The room smelt musty - There was no cold water in the shower - not ideal when you have a shower at 4am with a flight to catch. - There was no real food choice. When we arrived we overheard other couples in reception being told there was only Indian Food available and that closed in 10 minutes (fortunately we had eaten on the way) - The courtesy bus came at a cost and was not 24 hour. At least I knew this in advance and pre booked a taxi to save the hassle. - I'm not a fan of leaving car keys with strangers but there were no issues in this area and at least the bed was comfortable.

« You should not be charged an extra day if you have booked correct dates on-line!! »

Arrived at the hotel, to be told by receptionist,we were to pay a extra day payment. We booked on-line through Holiday extras with the correct arrival dates & departure dates. The receptionist was very rude & refused to allow us to stay unless we paid for the extra day on two rooms. I complained to Holiday extras & they were very helpful & refunded us promptly. There response : I am sorry to hear that Best Western Skylane hotel have charged you locally for an extra days parking. Having checked your reservations I can see you prepaid for parking until 3rd July, so this extra charge should not have been issued. I will ensure this is fed back to the hotel to prevent such situations occurring again for our customers. So if you have been ripped off recently..... get in touch with Holiday extras if of course that is who you booked through. It's not about the money but the principal of it!! The room was fine, so have no negative feed back on that at all.

    « Ok for overnight »

Booked this for a one night stay and a week's parking. Arrived to a flooded car park and got the last parking space. The reception area and bedrooms are fine, but the rest of the hotel is rather tired and has a strong smell of cigarette smoke. I was a bit wary of having to sign the disclaimer to leave my car there, and that I had to leave the keys, however it appears they only move it into a line with other cars due back on the same day and return it to the front of the hotel for your return, and all was fine with the car when we returned. The transfer service for £5 return was fine, although we did have to wait a while when we got back in to Gatwick. The advertised Indian restaurant no longer exists, and service in the restaurant was very slow, the food was acceptable. Overall not a bad budget option (£71 for an overnight stay and car parking for the week).

« Great Value for Airport Night »

We stayed here one night before our flight home to Canada. It's a simple hotel with basic rooms that are clean and comfortable. There is a shuttle available to the airport. I was surprised when he tacked £6 onto our bill for the service as every hotel I have ever been to had free shuttle service within a certain radius. Might have been cheaper to get a taxi, but it was convenient. The complimentary breakfast was very good. There is free wifi but it the signal was so weak in our room that it was useless.

    3
    « All went smoothly »

Functional room, ideal for one night pre flight stopover, from which I guess it gets most of its business. Room was basic but clean, car was parked safely for the week and was ready on our return and for the price we paid represented excellent value. Taxi to airport is £6

« Good rooms but food is poor »

Arrived to find no parking spaces & raining hard. The lady on the desk was so slow we waited some 15 minutes to check in Rooms were fine but the stated wi fi being high speed was a joke, when I phoned to complain she told me their was nothing wrong with it sign in again ? , I tried this with no luck then went to the front desk and it wired fine so we had to sit by the resection to get our flight tickets sorted Then we went for dinner, waitress was very rude saying we could not sit in setting places as we would de in the way. 5 in the group we all ordered plain simple food burgers etc my burger was presented 3 times before they finials got it right, all my friends had now finished their food Manager not on duty so asked the lady on the desk to assist, which she kept saying sorry 1 week later a feeble reply from the manager saying (you guessed it sorry ) saying they were busy Look elsewhere if you want any service, if you want a cheap hotel with airport parking this is fine

« Excellent value for travellers looking for an overnight stay, with parking while on holiday »

The staff will be disappointed with my overall rating, and understandably so, since they were all very polite and helpful. However the hotel has a tired feel about it. The card key system needs an overhaul, with several of the guests having to go to reception to have their cards reprogrammed while we were there overnight, and our card not working at all, and proving to be incapable of being reprogrammed. We had to ask reception to let us into our room with the master key every time we left!! The kettle in the room didn't work on its 'plumbed in' base on the dressing table, and had to be used from a temporary replacement base on the floor, operating from a low level electric plug! The hotel offers two restaurants ( Indian or Bar menus) sharing a floor space. We opted for an Indian dish which was good and a buffet style breakfast. At not much over £100 for a double room, (Room Only basis) and over two weeks parking, it really is very good value. A mini bus service is available for £5 for the return journey, and was very efficient

« Staying there 1 night for royal ascot »

When we got there they give us the wrong room, there was still someone in there when I went back there were a lot of our trip having wrong rooms, the receptionist didn't have a clue, I think he was Indian. Nothing around the area to go so stuck in our rooms, the restaurant couldn't deal with our bus load, so ended up not having any food. Too far out.

    « Holiday stopover »

Stayed here before flying out on holiday, room basic but clean. Good rate for stay and park facilities. Restaurant food and prices were very reasonable. No hot water for shower the next morning. Taxi service provided for the trip to airport good. On arrival back in uk, best western service was not good, was told to call for them to pick us up, but was told to get a taxi from airport ourselves. When we got back to hotel, there was only one person on duty, and he was rushed off of his feet. He had trouble locating another guests key and car, however all was good with our car and keys.

« Hotel with parking? no a car park with rooms! »

It is a major achievement to find a parking space. It would appear that this hotel offers some kind of 'Sleep and park' deal as the car park was jammed packed full with cars. We found one parking bay, but did not take our car with us to go for a meal, as we feared we would not get re-parked on our return. The staff we met seemed sullen or too busy to deal with customers. The attached restaurant seemed to have no atmosphere. The room was ok for one night. The best part of the stay was the wonderful Khushboo Indian Restaurant we walked to in Horley. A good healthy walk of 1.5 miles each way, but well worth it for the excellent food and superior service.

    4
    « Reasonably priced »

Only cost us £79 for a night in the hotel & for the car to stay there for a week. We spent a further £5pp for the transfer bus to the airport & back which made life so much easier. Couldn't fault the hotel or car park. It's nothing special but we only needed to stay there for one night.

    4
« Ideal for airport transfer »

Location good for walk into Horley, visit The Foresters, or Weatherspoons, good food at sensible prices. Ideal for a short stay prior to flight. Beware the driver of the minibus thinks it hurts to smile.

    2
    « Not the best »

Convenient for Gatwick Airport. Early morning taxi transfer was on time and good value. Room was tired, especially the bathroom with grout missing from floor tiles and a sink that took a long time to drain. Worst was the restaurant where there was a wait of 40 minutes before our order was taken. The pizza was not very nice and the chicken supreme was not as I know it. The waiting staff were not focused and had to be reminded to return my credit card before walking off. The car parking was good value. The car was ready for our return and there were no scratches or dents.

    4
« excellent choice for Gatwick Airport »

the room was good enough the price was cheap so what else you need. the only issue was that the parking space was full of cars, I am not sure why I can not imagine these are customers. overall the bed was comfy, there were free internet and we did eat breakfast

    2
    « Nothing special »

But shabby, but adequate for a night. Not updated for years it seems. Transfer bus was on time and, new but could do with a good clean. Driver was very informative. Stay if your happy with your car moved, muddy foot prints inside and parked close together.

    2
« Convenient but not worth staying at again »

We stayed there before an 11am flight next day. Convenience wise I can't fault it, it's quick to the airport via their shuttle which costs £5 return and takes you to whichever terminal you need. It's the staff and cleanliness I take issue with. When we arrived at gatwick via the gatwick express I called the hotel and they said go to bus stop 9 on the ground floor. So we got off the train and went at what looked like the ground floor outside... It said SOUTH TERMINAL in massive letters and there were taxis but we were struggling to see bus stop 9. So I called them again and asked where I should go... A man was put on the phone to explain directions and he was SO RUDE. He said " well I cannot very much help you if I don't know where you are". I repeatedly said directly outside the south terminal where there is a line of taxis. He was super patronising and after getting off the phone I asked a member of airport staff who was super helpful and directed us down a level (that in a sleep deprived state no one would ever notice). Anyway the shuttle picked us up and the driver was lovely and the drive itself quick. In the bathroom in our room there was a load of small hairs in the sink and what looked like very old food and other mouldy disgusting stuff under the plug. No one has cleaned that in a very long time and it was super disgusting. Unfortunately we only noticed in the morning otherwise I would have immediately gone to the front desk. There was also lots of rips in our duvet cover showing a less than clean duvet underneath which is unpleasant. We were waiting outside when the shuttle arrived.... The man from the phone call from the night before was driving. Whilst reversing to park and let everyone on the bus he ended up reversing so far that he hit the steps in front of the hotel and my camera bag!!!! He came very close to me and was going to quickly that I didn't have time to grab my camera bag before the ban was actually touching it. Thankfully he hit the steps quite hard which meant my camera only got a light touch but things could have been a lot worse. He obviously wasn't paying attention to what he was doing and I felt quite nervous on the drive to gatwick. I didn't get an apology for almost squishing a thousand pounds worth of equipment either. Again super convenient but don't expect things to be very clean.

    « Amazing value »

Wanting a hotel local to Gatwick where I could also leave my car, I would recommend this hotel, the room was spotless with usual facilities coffee/tea making,tv, and if required a restaurant/bar.The room we were allocated had recently been returned. Leaving your car to be picked up upon arrival back after ones holiday and a hotel of this standard is extremely good value.

« Disappointed is the word! »

Do not go to this hotel unless you want your car starched and dented !! staff are very rude and unprofessional, came back for our car after our holiday and we was left devastated, car has a big foot prints and a dent on the front and its starched !!

« Overnight stay with parking »

Room was ok, but when we were checking in a lady was complaining that her car had a big scratch on it! We arrived back to find the front grill of our Mercedes was pushed in, it did not appear to be damaged otherwise, but it took a while to work out how to put it back on. The manager was advised and he said you signed the disclaimer, which we did, as you couldn't leave the car without signing it. Will not be using again!

« Thankfully only there for 1 night »

We stayed here Tuesday night 31st of May prior to our early morning departure from Gatwick to Rhodes. We chose this hotel as it was convenient for Gatwick and we got car parking at Gatwick for 2 weeks included in the price. On arrival there was a guy trying to book us in whilst sorting out a reservation for someone else on the telephone. We were given the registration forms to fill in  then given the key, that was it. All a bit impersonal.  We did notice while at reception there was the Diya Indian restaurant and the Watershed bar and restaurant attached /nextdoor to the hotel. Thought an Indian meal would be spot on for dinner followed by a few drinks at the bar (reviewed separately). Our room was on the ground floor, when we got to the room it was freezing cold, a window was left open. Eventually we worked out how to operate the air conditioning / heating, however there was not heating in the bathroom, so avoided having a shower the next morning, it was literally so cold in that room The room itself was adequate, clean and served it's purpose but we would not stay here again. Apart from the guy on reception who checked us in and the staff in the resturant / bar we never saw another member of hotel staff. In the morning as we checked out the key was left on the desk Iin reception, there was no one there. Breakfast was not included in our package. There was free WIFI in the room but had to search in a drawn for the password.

    « Criminal damage »

To whom it may concern, When we arrived at the best western hotel in gatwick skylane on the 23rd of may we dropped the car off at the hotel, firstly we where stood there for 10 mins before any one came to the front desk and no bell to call for any one. they made me sign a form about a damage waver that I wasn't too happy about but I was told they would refuse to look after the car unless I signed it. The hotel it self was nice, typical simple room although water pressure not good enough for a shower. Food was poor at hotel, when we were there people left restaurant hungry including my self as it turns out the person running the front desk, the bar and the kitchen was the same person. The parking looked ok but not as secure as it made out on its website. The shuttle bus from the hotel to the airport was easy to use and book. After arriving back from our amazing holiday abroad we got picked up from the airport by a very un-talkative hotel shuttle bus driver, we also noticed that he had his seat belt clicked in behind his chair and not around him, which is illegal in the uk not to be wearing a seat belt. When we got back to the hotel and got the keys I went out to get my car and was horrified, The parking was appalling, bumper to bumper, I had to access my car through my passenger door just to get in my car due to car parked so close and having big doors due to being a 3 door car, scratches on the car, foot prints on the car and the Bonet dented in 2 places where it had been stood on, mud up the side of the car as if it had been wheel spun. My car is only 6 months old and I know this damage wasn't here before I went to this hotel as I lovely look after my car and wash it regularly. Spoke to the parking guy and told me my car was clean. he was very rude and denied any one has stood on my car as it was a safe Carpark with cctv. After showing him the car he tried to rub the foot prints off, while still claiming that my car had not been stood on and I was seeing things, So I went to the lady on the desk She came out and took photos and told me that they wouldn't have done this but will send photos to her manager any way and that the manager will contact me the same day, which he hasn't. When we asked for the cctv footage they were reluctant and kept changing subjects and saying how few cameras they have. We were shocked to see other cars just dumped as if they had been abandoned and these are people's pride and joy. We were told that the car park can easily fit 300 cars The parking is appalling and believe this needs to be checked, this is defiantly not the standards that best Weston hotels live up to Quality checks are lacking or have fallen since the last inspection I want a full refund of my money and repair bills to cover the cost to fix my car as it was before it arrived to the hotel I know there is the damage waver form, but to me that is the odd scratch, what I have on mine is criminal damage. My car is only 6 months old I am getting a quote from a garage to find out repair bills to put it right, it had its service 300 miles ago and they note all damage on car when it arrives to check for damage when they hand it back to the customer. Regards Christopher jones Chris Jones

« March. Parked the car for 2 weeks then one night stopover »

It was cheaper than Gatwick North car park to leave the car here for 2 weeks and stopover for one night on return. Took less than 5 minutes by taxi and cost £6 for the 2 of us to get to the North terminal. Room excellent except the air con was very poor. Clean and comfortable bed. Bar and restaurant excellent. Breakfast great. Staff polite and efficient and car parking was secure! I would definitely use this hotel again!

« Ok for stop off before light »

Ok stopped here before flight to flordia. Check in was smooth and fast and car in a secure car park. The room is simple and bland and cold! The bed was awful I woke up with a very aching back. Also not the place to be if you a a light sleeper. We are on the ground floor room 39. Out side our window is the car par all you can here is cars come and go. Also walls are very thin and can here people talking and closing there room doors. You can also here the goings on in the reception. I would recommend staying on the top floor and at the end!

    « Pre flight hotel »

Excellent hotel. Second time we have stayed first time a double room and this time a family room. Both excellent and also with the car parking for 15 nights. Very reasonable prices. Worth paying for breakfast as it is freshly cooked for you and was very hot much cheaper than having breakfast at the airport and far more civilised. So Leased we have rebooked for August while there. The bus to airport and return very efficient.

    « Airport stay over »

We were very pleased with the hotel , we had parking included which was also a bonus to the hotel.clean and value for money .but went to the adjoining Indian restaurant and the meal was cold and tasteless and cooked or should I say produced in 5 minutes , it was disappointing to say the least .

« Room ok, food disgusting »

We stayed 31/5, the room was clean and adequate for an overnight stay. The restaurant/bar area was dated and unfortunately we booked a table before seeing it. The food was absolutely disgusting, they used the cheapest produce and paid no attention to detail. Breakfast was cold and it looked more like an army mess than a restaurant.

    « Just the job »

Stayed here overnight before an early flight from Gatwick. Room was very good. On site Indian restaurant provided a very enjoyable evening meal.Transfer to airport was punctual and the return pick up at 11:10pm was faultless. Short wait only. Car was ready for us on our return to the hotel.Would recommend this for a fly and park package.

    « Staff Traing Needed - Take a Sandwich ! »

Staff Training Needed ! . . . Take a sandwich . . . . Best Western Skylane Hotel Gatwick When your flight times from Gatwick dictate that a Hotel Stay is the best option which do you choose . . . . Nearest?, Cheapest?, Best Known ? We decided on the best value Hotel which at the time was ?Best Western Skylane' (which used to be called ?Days Inn'). Advance booking gave us a deal for:- a room for 2; evening meal for 2; full English breakfast for 2; and car parking for 11 days with hotel shuttle bus to and from the terminal. Total cost £149 which was the best price we found. On arrival, we were given a large clean room with a recently refurbished bathroom, the car was parked in a secluded spot, but visible to us and all seemed fine. We went for evening meal at 7.30pm, and it was suggested to us that we come back half an hour later, because they were busy. At 8pm we ordered, and waited. Other diners came in and were served within 20 mins of ordering. At 9pm we asked about our order. ?Sorry we forgot it' came the reply. We had to chase it up three times, finally sitting down to eat just before 10pm. Perhaps if we'd ordered from the ?Indian' Menu we might have been better served, but steak and chips was obviously a bit of a challenge for the Chef. The meal was average. Fortunately English breakfast (waiter served) the following morning did not suffer the same time warp, and glad to say that on return 11 days later the car was ready and waiting for us with no scratches. Two years ago this Hotel was under used ? but now you need to book early ? the car park was packed. IMW

« Basic Hotel But Ok For Short Stay »

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay and parking for a week. We were given our key card and we were on the second floor, three times the card would open the door. The hotel advertises a good restaurant, but this is not the case, we wouldn't eat there as the room was dark and we were waiting 20 minutes before we were even given a menu. This hotel is ok for the parking, but be prepared to clean your car when you collect it after your holiday as it could be plastered in pigeon droppings not nice to come home to.

« Brilliant price for overnight stay and a weeks parking »

We have stayed here several times over the past 10 years it's a brilliant place to stay and park been modernised over the last few years and it had been done well comfortable beds and on site transfers service used to be part of price but this time it was charged be careful though cause this time reception man in the morning phoned a taxi when we said transfers and them said we hadn't paid so so for and keep a receipt no problems on return really pleasant driver out and back keep up the good work Skylane and we'll see you again soon

« Still a good choice for Gatwick stopover & parking »

This was our fifth time using Skylane as a stopover with parking. As always, check-in was quick and straightforward and the room was fine. We had been delayed, and arrived about 9.00pm, but the restaurant is billed as open until 9.30, so we went straight in, along with about 10 others who arrived at the same time. However, we were told we had to order quickly as they were about to close - none of the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere of previous visits. The John Smiths was "off" and wine could only be served in small measures as they "had no large glasses" However, the lager was acceptable and the Indian meal was fine, but we did feel rushed. They had arranged a taxi for us, as we needed to leave earlier than their shuttle starts at 6.00am, and a limo arrived 10 minutes earlier than ordered, with a most obliging driver, at a surprisingly cheap fare of £6. We chose to call their shuttle on our return, but waited half an hour for it, which had never happened before, and wished we had called the taxi firm instead. Overall, not quite as good an experience as previous visits, but we have already booked a future one.

    « A Welcoming Break »

We had arrived at Gatwick at five past midnight Friday. Our holiday in Kos and had already booked our car and room at this hotel. By the time we arrived it was 1.00 am so we were pretty tired. The duty manager was very pleasant and soon we were in our room. It was really lovely. Very clean and spacious. All the usual things, ie kettle, hairdryer, tv, etc. Spare pillows should you need them. We had a drink and set true alarm Kwakiutl us so we fif t miss the breakfast. Breakfast was plentiful, breads, Cereal et , orange juice, tea, coffee, the usual. We were asked if we wanted a vpcooked breakfast, which my husband chose. I asked for poached eggs and toasted some bread to put the eggs on. My husbands breakfast was lovely, hot and tasty. It didn't look much but he said it was very filling and thoroughly enjoyed it. My eggs were perfectly poached and were lovely. It was a shame to leave but we had to get in our way. We collected our cars keys (we had left our car there when we went away) and left. This hotel was very clean, very comfortable and very convenient for the airport. We have no hesitation in recommending it to others and we will stay there again.

« A year on and a new name, but just the same »

I was a little worried when I booked our pre flight hotel and parking when I saw the name change, however everything was the same. The room was spacious, clean and transfer to the airport fine. My only real issue was considering people are getting up very early for the airport, the walls are very thin and I was awoken by next door and the room above. However, I would happily stay again.

    2
    « Staff needs traing »

Lost our reservation to start. Waited an hour for a room. TV did not work, Staff allowing their children to play behind reception. Staff too busy texting to serve you. Not enough staff at reception. Lots of customers complaining about Airport shuttle.

    3
    « Convenient »

Booked as a stay and park whilst we went on holiday. Good value however walls are thin, service was ok. Room was quite large and bed comfortable but you can here fellow guests. Only used the restaurant for breakfast but opening hours are short, only a 2 hour window.

    « Indian restaurant »

Room was what you would expect from this range of hotel, very clean and basic[no iron] but very happy. The Indian restaurant next door serving excellent Indian food but my holiday party opted for a more English range of food found it very disappointing one asked for chicken supreme and was served it with gravy and a side salad only to find the gravy and salad on the same plate but overall a nice place to stay

    3
« Unless you have time, do not use the restaurant »

The hotel is fine for a overnight stay before catching a flight but the restaurant was more like Fawlty Towers then Best Western. After waiting 30 minutes we were asked to order. After another 20 minutes I received my glass of wine which had to be returned immediately as it had food particles stuck to the side of it. The two ordered starters arrived after another 15 minutes but in the process of being prepared become one starter. The main course consisted of a over cooked chicken pie accompanied with some limp salad leaves. We declined to look at the dessert menu, we could not face a wait of another 20 or so minutes.

    4
« Convenience, value and comfort »

We have stayed here a few times due to having early flights. The downside of this arrangement is not having breakfast because of needing to check out very early. Of course you could have a later morning flight and enjoy breakfast but that hasn't worked out for us yet. The hotel and its staff are pleasant and the rooms are comfortable. Best Western often have meal deals on and the food is good value and decent quality. We'll stay again and hopefully have breakfast as kippers are usually on the menu. Needless to say convenience for the airport is great.

« good for park and stay »

Best Western standard mid range rooms (perfectly acceptable for most people) and good value for parking - far more convenient than say purple parking if you're staying overnight. The minibus driver is a perfect gentleman and the pick up/drop off service is efficient and good value. Ate in the restaurant - again, good value and the food was standard pub fare (also an Indian menu which looked tempting). BW rewards won't apply if you book with Holiday Extras etc. Overall, would happily use it again.

    « Good value »

We just needed somewhere near the airport to facilitate an early check in. We were pleased with the Skylane, it did what it said on the tin. Our room was clean and comfortable, ok we had to wait a while at 5am for the water to run hot enough for a shower, but that was the worst inconvenience. We decided to eat in a local pub rather than on site so can't comment - and the pub, the Farmhouse, was great. Nor did we have time for breakfast there. The shuttle service was run by a very efficient and courteous chap, and when we returned at 10.30pm he made good his promise to collect us in 10 - 15 minutes. It wasn't five star luxury but then we didn't pay a five star price. On the basis of our experience we would use the Skylane again, and eat at the Farmhouse pub.

« Great place for Gatwick »

Stayed overnight before flight to USA. Great service at reception - all very smooth and the system for drop off and pick up explained well. Our room was warm, comfortable and spotless. The bathroom was beautifully equipped with a great shower and complimentary toiletries. The restaurant attached to the hotel was busy so the service was a little slow but when it's the night before a holiday, time isn't of the essence! We had an Indian choice which was delicious and well presented. The wine was very reasonably priced. After a great night's sleep, the shuttle bus took us to Gatwick which took around 10 minutes. On return, the shuttle bus was already waiting at the designated bus stop! Brilliant after an 11 hour flight! I would definitely recommend this hotel and would use again if ever the need arose.

    « Brilliant for Gatwick »

Stayed before flying from Gatwick. Rooms spacious and clean. Really enjoyed the Indian meal the evening before we left. Hotel provide shuttle bus to airport for only £6 per person return - what a bargain! would use this hotel again when flying from Gatwick

    « Fine for parking »

Booked this as somewhere to park and stay the night before flying from Gatwick South. It's fine. Nothing special. The shower was a joke. You had to wait for ever for the hot water to come through and then had to dance around the bath to get a drop of water on you!!! The bar/restaurant was okay. Service was slow and the food was average. The only plus side to this place is that the car didn't appear to have been moved from the site which I know some others do. You get what you pay for so don't expect luxury.

    « Needs an atmosphere »

Booked the hotel for a trip to see friends. It is geared up for fly park stay!! Not the everyday traveller. Pleasant staff just need to break a smile. Had dinner on the first night. Great Indian food just needed an atmosphere. Room ok no major issues A/C noisy and didn't work that well. Breakfast finishes at 9.00am even on a Sunday. A little early. We arrived early and there is no bar or food until the evening. Overall ok needs better pillows

« Rude staff and bad service »

We arrived at the hotel at half 11 in the evening after arriving at Gatwick Airport, I had booked the room on the Best Western website and once at reception it was clear that the reservation had been made for the 4th June instead of the 4th April it was meant to be. On the booking terms it said that this room was non-refundable, however the night porter assured us that if we paid for a room that evening we would be able to get a refund for the mistakenly booked room in June. Which gave us the impression that this was a technical fault as he seemed sure that it was a booking error, if he had not made this point we would not have stayed at this hotel as we cannot afford to pay for two hotel rooms. After I had talked with the Best Western reservations team it became apparent that we would not be able to get a refund as it is a franchise business and the hotel manager did not give the authorisation to allow a refund. Although the night porter had stressed that we could get a refund, the manager argued that he was not 'familiar with the reservation system'. I then rang the hotel directly to talk with the manager about this and appeal to his better judgement but he was very rude towards me and denied that the hotel was in the wrong, repeatedly saying that it was against the terms and conditions of the booking to allow a refund, and ignored me on other points I was making. So if you are looking for a hotel in a good location for Gatwick than this would be a perfect option for you, however if you would like to be spoken to like a child and patronised and blatantly lied to you will love this hotel! New manager required urgently!

    « Great location »

Stopped overnight prior to an early Gatwick departure. 10 minutes from the airport with shuttle bus available for £3 pp one way. If there are more than 2 of you in your party get a cab, it is better vaue (£7 one way). Hotel is clean, with good room set up. On site bar & restaurant serves decent food, with Indian & English options & Sky Sports in the bar..

« Average with the exception of the shuttle bus! »

Stayed here on the 28th March for one night as we had an early flight on 29th March! Room was basic, bed was uncomfortable and quilt was thin - so was cold, also because we had a ground floor room we could hear loads of noise and cars being moved all night! Shower was unpredictable and I ended up having a bath - one second it was too hot, the next it was freezing! However, the parking was good and shuttle bus picked us up within 20 mins when we landed - definitely the best bit about the hotel! However unfortunately we probably won't be using this hotel again!

« great location and good parking »

Stayed here after getting back from Dubai very near the airport had a basic room but had everything you wanted nice evening meal and a good breakfast, left my car here for 9 days they have a shuttle bus to the airport great value for money we will stay here again when we fly from gatwick.

« STRUGGLING TO DELIVER THE SERVICE »

We checked in for an overnight stay prior to going to the airport early the next morning the greeting we received from the staff on reception was friendly and welcoming. The rooms were not extravagant but clean and comfortable. The food served in the restaurant was quite good when you could get it, this is an area where the management should really be concentrating their efforts to deliver a seamless service throughout the hotel. We went down for dinner hungry, tired and just wanting to have dinner and go to bed in readiness for an early start the following morning. The restaurant was in full swing when we sat waiting to order, we then realised why everyone seemed to be just sitting at tables with no food, just one waiter for the entire restaurant. The poor chap was almost running to try and keep up and when his note pad was full he was writing on the back of his hands. There was no way he was going to be able to deliver a first class service, or for that matter any service at all. I mentioned to a staff member my shock and concern at seeing the whole restaurant service tended by just one waiter, and they explained that new staff would come, stay a couple of days then simply leave because of the impossible work load imposed upon them by the management.

« If you want any heating or warm water do not stop here. »

Arrived at hotel late in the evening to find the room freezing cold, complained to reception they send a guy down 20 minutes later, he said heating would come on in 15 minutes, still no heating. As it was now nearly midnight and we had early flight decided to try to sleep in a freezing room. But after about a hour gave up and dressed and slept rest of night in my clothes. Went to have a shower in the morning and water stone cold, still no heating so had to travel all day with a cold wash only. Complained again in morning but just got fobbed of. When we returned to hotel to pick the car up was told that heating had not been working on that side of hotel for 3 months. On returning home we complained to travel company and best western but there again we were just fobbed of with excuses saying we did not complain enough if we had they would have fixed it. I should have read trip advisor before we booked it as it seems this as been going on for months and they know its a problem. I got a 50% refund so they know its a ongoing problem but just wont admit it.

    « Basic but good »

My young son and I stayed here for an early morning flight , apart from the numbers at the gatwick bus stops being absent to call them it was a good experience. Rooms are basic but there's a decent restaurant there with bar and much to my son's delight, free wi-fi. Not a luxury experience by any means but dies what it says on the tin...

    « Good value stay »

My husband & I would use this hotel again as it was good value for money & as we have family in the area, this is just what we need. I have stayed elsewhere in the past, but I would revisit this hotel on cleanliness & economic grounds.

« Over night stay and leave car while on hols »

Never known such rude staff . They never picked us up from terminal 8 after flight was delayed and not our fault...had to get taxi ..they wouldn't refund the money and to top it off our car had been crashed by another car while in there care !!! Never again will we stay there .....STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS PLACE !!!

    3
    « Park & Stay »

This was booked for us by our travel agent so had not read reviews. On arrival we parked the car near the entrance so husband could unload. Whilst checking in the bus driver curtly told me to move it way over the back as it would get busy later. I said "can he unload first as I can't help" . Check in good but we kept car keys till morning as wanted to put our over night bag in the boot. Room functional although cold and heating had to be sorted by husband. Food good, 10% service charge is automatically added though. Our room was near cars so was woke up few times by chatter. As we had an early flight a cab was booked for us. It was prompt and cost £6. On our return we used the shuttle bus £6 for us both one way. I was told 20 mins, we waited 35. Not normally a big deal but when your tired it seems endless. I found it difficult to get in the van and even harder getting out due to joint issues and no step. Driver did however help me. Picked up keys and car with no problems.

« Stay Away, Book at your Peril !!!!! »

Arrived on Wed 16th of March, after a brief check in at 22.30 we went to our room and discovered the room was unbearable cold with no heating switched on. After working out how to activate the heating system we discovered that it was non existence and rang reception to be told we have to wait 10 minutes for it to filter through. We waited 20 minutes with our coats on and had enough, we needed a warm room to get some sleep for an early flight. I confronted reception again but was told we can't move as the hotel is full, so I said I simply cannot stay in a freezing room and was going to leave - where I was then given an electric heater but told not to keep in on all night as it may be a fire hazard. We finally got the room warmed by midnight and tried to sleep but with the chill and outside noise, I would recommend earplugs as we didn't get much sleep. We attempted to get some breakfast just after 9am but was told breakfast was all finished and they wouldn't accommodate us, even though we were only a few mins late. Again not a major issue. On our return we followed the instructions for our return courtesy bus by ringing the hotel at the pick up point. We were told before we left that "Call us and we will be with you in 10 mins"...well we rang at 06.55 and waited in the rain / freezing cold, after 35mins of waiting we rang again and was informed by the Duty Manager that we in fact only called a "Few Minutes" ago and again told very rudley "He's on his way"... Eventually 1 hour from being stood in the cold and rain we got back to the hotel where I was CONFRONTED by a very angry manager saying "Don't call me a liar, you only waited a few minutes".... It was an hour. He also casually forgot that he told me he couldn't contact his driver and then proceeded to call him after our pick up. I call that lying to your customer. In all my years of travelling I have never complained about any hotel for service this bad, as we know issues do occur, but I've never had a duty manager argue with me in front of my wife and other staff claiming they're service was acceptable and they hadn't mislead us. The manager clearly could not articulate where his driver was and had no idea of time and almost refused to give me my car keys until I apologised, which I found flaberstating and thought it was acceptable to keep arguing with me until my wife stepped in.. A real shocking experience and one I will never want repeated, therefore I urge anyone looking for parking with overnight accommodation to look elsewhere, as there are plenty of better deals out there.

« OK for a overnight stop for an early flight »

We booked the Skylane Hotel mainly on the basis is was a Best Western Hotel. From past experiences we always had good hotels. To be fair it was not that bad, but also, it was not that good. The rooms were basic, it looked like building work had been carried out and the decorating not finished. The window was screwed closed with gaps around the side letting in the cold and the noise from the nearby rail line. We were on the second floor back facing onto an area where they store the vehicles while you are away. I am a light sleeper so I was woken continuously by the train noises. We did eat in the restaurant, there was a choice of two menus, we chose the Indian menu, The food was nice and hot and freshly cooked, although a tad expensive. I suppose you have to pay this around Gatwick. Would I stay there again, if I had an early flight again yes, but I would take ear plugs.

« Good start to our holiday »

After a long drive this was just what we needed, smooth and friendly check in and a large very clean room and bathroom. Handy restaurants serving decent food at reasonable prices. Close to the airport, we would use it again.

    « Steer Clear »

Recently booked two nights into this Hotel at either end of my holiday. The night before my trip was fine, room OK, restaurant fine, but did find the guy parking the cars a "Jobsworth" wanted to take my keys before I had finished using the car and got very upset when I wouldn't surrender them. On leaving the following morning I checked with Reception that the room for our return would be OK as we were not due to return to the Hotel until after midnight. Was assured all was well (this booking had been made and confirmed two months in advance). However, on our return we were calmly told that the Hotel was over-booked and they were transferring us to one of their sister Hotels, as I had a car there they expected me to drive approx. 20 mins in the pitch dark in an area I didn't know. I refused as we had be travelling for 12 hours. They reluctantly agreed to call a cab and we eventually arrived at 2.20 am. I would point out that my traveling companion and myself are 70+ ladies. We were subsequently advised by a member of staff that this is regular occurrence. After Best Western investigated (these Hotels are independently owned) Sklane Hotel had cheek to lie and say that they tried to inform us and it was due to internal changes within the Hotel that this problem arose. Not so, I would advise using one of the other more reliable hotels in the area. Don't touch this one.

« Awful stay, freezing cold poorly maintained room, unfriendly receptionists +nearly missed flight due to shuttle service! »

We stayed here for 1 night before a flight at Gatwick Airport and would never return. There was one problem after another. We arrived to find a full car park with no spaces. The receptionists were highly unfriendly, essentially ignored us and seemed to find any queries an inconvenience. The room was freezing cold, and the heating didn't work. We went to reception three times to request someone look at it as it was too cold to sleep, and it took them over an hour to finally send someone, who pressed a couple of the buttons then told us it was fixed - it wasn't! On no sleep we went to catch the shuttle the next morning, only to wait for 15 minutes in reception before another guest told us that even though we were booked onto the shuttle by reception the shuttle had been full so had gone - the receptionist didn't bother to let us know this! They said they'd send a taxi but after a further 30 minutes we were seriously concerned we'd miss our flight and ended up having to demand one of the receptionists to get us to the airport himself! Definitely would not recommend!

    « Woken during night »

I had to stay there for four nights for a business trip. First night after travelling, woken by another guest letting themselves into my room. Reception has booked Someome else into my room and given them a key. Next morning house keeping waking me up as they thought I was checking out! Poor management.

« Perfect for a business trip of a stay over to carch a plane. »

« Great place for a stay over for Gatwick »

Stopped overnight, clean, comfortable, with helpful staff. Bar good, and food excellent, lovely Indian food, as good as the best restaurants; they also provide a range of decent looking English dishes. Reasonable prices, all in all,a good choice .

« Very suitable hotel for Gatwick airport »

Good overnight stop for early morning flight from Gatwick. 8 days free parking was a welcome bonus. Comfortable with a excellent transfer service to airport terminal. Perfectly suited for budget conscious travellers

« excellent distance from airport, excellent service »

Had early flight from Gatwick so trawled through all the park and fly options on the internet. This lived up to/exceeded expectations. Directions good, room lovely clean bright modern. Reception staff helpful. Not there for any food times so no comment. Used taxi to go and shuttle to come back. Taxi only £6-7 one way so would recommend book return rather than shuttle as shuttle £3 per person one way so cost same (or cheaper if more than 2 passengers). But no real criticism of shuttle per se. Good value for money-park and hotel combined not much more than parking alone. Would definitely do it again.

    3
« Good value with parking included »

Park and fly represents good value. Do not be fooled by the Best Western brand. We have stayed in Best Westerns in various countries. This is NOT up to their usual standard, but it is clean and efficient. Room OK. Restaurant low end pub type but serves its purpose. Park and fly administered efficiently.

    « Good service »

I travelled to Gatwick by Rail. The bus for this hotel goes from Stop 9 on the ground floor. I 'phoned the hotel and the minibus arrived around 15 minutes later. Good, clean room and bathroom. The heat only works when you get into the room and takes time to heat up. The bus stop is very near to the disabled assistance office which is heated and from there one has excellent assistance right to the aircraft. They charge £5 for the return bus. I left my walking stick in my room and the driver went back and brought it to me in the airport. Good service! They have a restaurant which serves a good full English breakfast for £6.95 between 7.00 and 10.00 a.m.

    « Manager couldn't care less »

Collected our car after our holiday ,it was scratched. Reported it to the manager who claimed that he couldn't see it. Took photo of scratch, which he couldn't see either, even though other guests I showed it to in the lobby could. He just couldn't care less and blatantly denied it was there. Wish I'd have checked trip advisor before booking. No coincidence so many poor reviews

    2
« look out for the rip off service charge »

booked here for one night with car parking for an early morning flight. The room was reasonable though could not get heating to work only to wake up at 3am with the heating on full blast and room like a sauna. Had dinner in the restaurant which can only be described as very cheap and not very cheerful. I had the 8 ounce gourmet burger which which was in fact two 4 ounce frozen burgers. Don't know what make they were except to say they were very cheap and not very nice and definitely not 100% beef. Whilst I was eating this a nearby table received their bill and commented on a 10% service charge, which they refused to pay. At the end I asked to see the menu again to check for this charge and there is no mention of a service charge. I also told the waiter I was not paying it and he said no problem as its at the discretion of the management. Must admit I've not heard of this rip off before so BEWARE. At the end of the day they lost out as I found the service to be very good and so would have left a tip anyway. In the morning they had pre booked a taxi for us which was there on time. On return had to wait 25 minutes for their bus to arrive which was not nice on a cold evening. Eventually collected car and tried to check its condition which was difficult in the dark however next morning I found the car was covered in mud indicating that it had been driven at speed through puddles and it certainly wasn't by me. Will not be stopping here again no matter how cheap it is.

    2
« Perhaps better called Worst rather than Best Western. »

Not up to the standard of Best Western I am used to. Rooms ok decor tasteless and cheap. Food of poor quality and have cheek to charge service. Advertise top class Indian restaurant but chef not there and probably not been for the last few months. Staff park your car despite having acres of room park it so close to another you cannot open the door. Free phone at airport for collection by shuttle does not work or is not answered. Look elsewhere.

Food crap, and they had the cheek to try and charge a 10% service charge at the point of ordering. Air conditioning didn't work, shower luke warm, room smelly. Best advice is to STAY AWAY. Will never stay again. It's cheap for a reason - pay peanuts, get monkeys

    « A great disappointment »

Very poor. Rooms are clean but freezing. Heating controls do not work properly and are inadequate. Reception less than helpful. The food is poor. Advertising a gourmet burger and ending up with cardboard. We checked in at 10pm. The bar closed at 10.15pm. We managed a drink and were told that they had cashed up so couldn't serve anymore and also we had had too many drinks already !! Attitude of staff was appalling. Customer Service was not one of their best skills. To quote "it was not their problem that we checked in so late". The shuttle bus is a bit of a nightmare too. We had to pay for a taxi to the airport and then on our return we waited ages and directions for pick up are not clear. Again, on calling the hotel, the staff were not a great help other than to tell us the shuttle was there ! It's a big airport so 'there' doesn't help much when you are cold. On returning from holiday we realised we had left an item in the room. When we asked the hotel they said nothing had been handed in ! Only hotel staff would have been in the room aside from ourselves ! On all occasions the staff are not very polite, helpful and really need a course on customer service. If I spoke to my clients like that we wouldn't have any clients. Wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. Would advise to pay a little more and enjoy your stay elsewhere. Such a shame when people don't realise that this is the start or the end of your holiday and try to make it special.

    « Great stop-over before flight »

This place suited our needs before our early morning flight. Shuttle bus to and from the airport was great. Rooms have WIFI, a bit slow but better than nothing. Food in the restaurant was ok, nothing special but it serves it's purpose. Would visit again.

« Hotel OK but car parking service let it down »

Shuttle bus was prompt on way to airport. Arrived back after overnight transatlantic flight (10 am). Rang from hotel phone as directed and waited 45 minutes for shuttle bus, despite calling twice more during this time to remind. When arrived back at hotel, no apology, just given car key with no guide as to where they had parked the car. I wrote to advise the Manager of the incident but have received no response. No interest in offering any service to guests.

    « DISGUSTED »

Stayed here for night prior to an early morning flight to Barbados, our flight was at 9.30 am, so I booked an early morning call for 5.30 am and also booked the coach to the airport for 6.20 am. I saw staff write both entries into the relevant books. I awoke at 8.15 am, reception checked both books and the entries were there.no explanation was given by reception, as to why we did not get our early morning call or a call to say the coach was ready at 6.20 am. On my return I emailed the hotel but got no reply.

    « excellent hotel »

We have been to a number of asylum seeker hotels, but this is not one, a d is great. We have been 3 times and are booked in again. The staff are busy, the rooms clean, comfortable and all refurbished. Thd indian and english food available is great. I realise they deal with hundreds of overnight stays a week and the car parking is wet, muddy and tight. Both my car a large saloon and my wifes a 4x4 have bedn absolutely fins, yes thdy are moved as the collection nears, there is a brand new xhuttle bus and they are efficidnt, on time, put your overnight bag in the car for you, and work hard. I have witnessed rude guests and feel sympathy for the staff who are foing gheir utmost. In all i love it, i dont have any worries whilst away, and hzve had more damage zt morrisons car park than anywhere....thankyou for your efforts....

« Car damaged and soiled inside Disappointing overnight stay »

Booked with car parking on the net had to pay extra on arrival shocking practice. On our return car near side mirror damaged and most dissapointing cigarette ash found on inside drivers door near off side mirror somebody obviously tried flicking ash out of corner of window. Always take a note of your vehicles mileage I didn't but my car used half a tank of fuel between Camberley and the hotel and during its stay ( 1.6 diesel approx 45-65 mpg doesn't use haLf a tank to cover less than 50 miles. Hotel insists car was only moved to rear of hotel and then back to front for our arrival. Must have the largest rear car park in the UK I did complain and was fobbed off

    « Very Poor »

Best Western Skylane on the 13.2.16. When arriving back at about 8.30pm after a long day travelling we were told that the restaurant and bar was closed as there was a wedding taking place and that room service would only be available until 9pm. We then asked to go to the indian restaurant to be told this will not be open until the following week !! We had decided to book an extra night at the hotel so that rather than face a 3 hour journey down the motorway after a tiring day we could relax with a nice meal and a drink before driving home next day. Instead, feeling very stressed and tired , we had to go out for something to eat. The hotel did give us complimentary transport to a restaurant but we had to get a taxi back at our own expense! We feel very strongly that we should have been told about this when we booked NOT when we arrived as we would have chosen another hotel. To make matters worse, when we returned to the hotel and tried to freshen up we found there was no heating in the bathroom of our room which was very cold and in our friends room no heating at all! On checking out next morning we complained to the manager who merely shrugged his shoulders and said we should have informed reception the night before as it is 24 hour. Besides the fact that we were very tired and wanted to go to bed I doubt very much whether anyone would have sorted it out at that time of night! He also said that the radiators in the bathrooms were not used anyway! We had used the same hotel prior to our holiday on the 6.2.16 and on that occasion, apart from the fact that they closed the bar at 10pm that night although it is advertised as being open until 11pm, thing were generally satisfactory. We were given rooms on the 2nd floor which were fine but this time we were given rooms 37 & 39 on the ground floor which, besides the heating problems, were very small and did not have full size double beds.

« It is what it is- could score 1 star higher depending..... »

I found the staff very accomodating- informative and friendly. Rooms are basic but it is fundamentally a place to stay before a holiday and a place to park your car. I have given this a 3 but would mark 1 higher or lower....... The morning after I picked the car up and drove home I noticed my rear break light had been smashed. When I picked the car up it had been moved. As I arrived back from my flight late, i picked up the key chucked luggage on back seat and drove home neglecting to check the car. I can't 100% prove it was the fault of the hotel (as I have street parking at home) hence my score but pretty sure they caused the damage. It looked like the light had been reversed into a pole as no other damage and hole very circular. When I noticed in the morning there was no damaged light on the ground around my car. I would just advise when picking up the car to check for damage- seems to be other reviews saying the car has been damaged. If the fault was with the hotel *2 if it wasn't then... I'm sorry Skylane and would give *3... but most likely the damage is the fault of the hotel.

« cheap but not so confotable »

the hotel is not expensive. It is clean and the rooms seem recently refitted. All rooms have everything one would need for a short stop over and the parking can be included. The reception is OK all be it the front area would be better with more lighting to see the way at night. The book in is smooth and on first sight the rooms are great. Our issue was. Mattress was cheap one and frankly not the sort a hotel should buy. You bottom out very w quickly and although I like a hard mattress NOT WOOD BED BOARD. The walls are very thin. Very disjointing to hear even the loo being used by the next room. Not to mention some exited travelers some 5 rooms away. The cars are kept at the hotel but parked on gravel. Expect them to be very dusty on return! On the plus point the transfer at £10 return was repressive and the driver a dream operator. He was safe steady and helpful.

« Terrible place do not stay- shambles now »

We had stayed here several times when it was days inn. Then the rooms were ok but the restaurant was good- a good choice with great Indian food. BUT NOW NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WHEN WE STAYED THIS WEEK- The tv didn't work well, the hot water was not hot at night, the sink did not drain away, the radiator was not working in the bathroom and it was freezing. Then the restaurant- no chef to cook the Indian food away for a month or so, but the normal menu food was very poor- the steak pretty unedible. We ordered starter and it never came and then were charged for it! Ok they did take it off the bill but not good enough. The breakfast was so so but the service terrible. It is now a BEST WESTERN but when we contacted them they dissolved all responsibility and said it is down to the owners. So Best Western you have gone down in our view of you, they are trading under your name so you should care. Will be cancelling our other reservations there and also those with Best Western.

    « Great Value »

Very pleased with this accommodation after reading some of the reviews. Checking in was painless with a lift to the top floor. Our room was well appointed , clean and practical. Comfortable bed, large tv, tea making facilities and a nice bathroom. Stayed one night and parked our car there for 15 nights. Excellent service and food at the hotels restaurant. Found getting a taxi to and from the hotel to the airport was best option. Only negative point was having arrived back at hotel to collect vehicle after a long haul flight could find no one at reception. After searching around for 5-10 minutes staff member with small child appeared behind reception desk as though nothing was wrong. Allow time to get to the airport or vice versa during rush our as it is very busy.

« Good for airport parking »

Great for parking prior to a flight - rooms have been upgraded good nights sleep before flight, but we had poor service in restaurant so would not have a meal here for the cost not worth it, we would go elsewhere.

    « Served a purpose well »

As our flight was early morning we selected to stay here and take advantage of the opportunity to park the car there whilst away at a reasonable price. Our check in was prompt and our room to the back of the premises clean and the bed comfy. We dined at the restaurant attached to the hotel and although our food was fine the meal was not without problems. Some fifteen minutes after we had ordered my wife was advised her option was not available. She re-ordered and after ten minutes her meal (but not mine) appeared. Leaving it a further five minutes we enquired and the manager very apologetically offered us free drinks which we accepted. My food arrived after a further five minutes and we are guessing that when my wife re-ordered the whole of the original order was cancelled. In the morning the mini-bus taking us to the terminal was prompt and the procedure for picking us up on our return clearly explained with details on a sheet of paper given to us for reference. On our return ten days later we were collected from the pick up point at the terminal within twenty minutes and our car was waiting for us close by reception. We would not hesitate to use this facility again.

It was very clean. Had everything we needed. We were 3 friends and it said one double bed and one single and we were surprised to find 3 single beds and was very happy about it Staff very pleasant and friendly and helpful. Fetching from station to taking us to the airport was no problem, chatted to us. the bathroom very spacious. We had a good experience, will go there again and promote the hotel ,

    « Clean and Comfortable »

A clean and comfortable stay, free internet access, is just a short distant from Gatwick airport, ideal for a stay before a flight from Gatwick, staff are friendly with an onsite Restaurant if your hungry, a basic menu but nice food, There is an Indian menu on some nights, which is very nice too.

    « Sleep and park »

We booked this hotel as we were going away for a week and wanted to avoid driving down the same day as we flew. The price was very good £59 for one night and 8 days parking. We were offered a cooked breakfast for £5 each and the shuttle was another £5 each. It worked very well. The staff were nice and helpful, the rooms were good and we got a good nights sleep and breakfast. We had a meal in the restaurant the night before which was ok although cost more than the hotel. Overall would use again.

    « Ideal »

Once again we stayed here as its great for the night before a flight. Rooms are clean & comfy & serve the purpose. The hotel offers a bus (payable) to airport & its easy to get them to collect you on your return . There is a bar & restaurant adjacent which serve great food

« Worst hotel I have ever been »

Booked this hotel to stay for one night and leave my car for a week while I'm away. Air con in the room doesn't work, bathroom is freezing cold. That's not the worst: when got my car back, went to use my sat nav and guess what - it is broken. The hotel take NO responsibility for it. As per review below - do yourself a favour - AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST - Save yourself a few pennies and book elsewhere.

« Not one of my favourite airport hotels, but not bad »

Quite difficult to find, we stayed overnight before our flight and left our car here for a week. Booking in was smooth although that irritating thing happened where one guy was serving everybody in the long queue while another is just milling about and not helping him. We had an attic room which was fine, little bit cramped due to the slanted ceiling but didn't really care - there was a working television set as well as TEA AND COFFEE MAKING FACILITIES! The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was particularly unglamorous and could have been cleaned a bit better but was alright, and we had a decent sleep overnight without being woken up or disturbed at all. Maybe it was a little stuffy, but nothing seriously problematic. The hotel transfer to Gatwick was efficient and hassle free, our car was ok when we returned and I don't really have any complaints. Probably wouldn't stay here again but that's not a knock against the hotel specifically, just that you can get better places for the same price.

« worse than the last time »

I only booked again because the name changed to best western and did not realise it was the same place its awful !! the last time I was there they damaged my car big time !! our room over looked the long stay parking at the rear of the hotel we watched the staff parking the cars they were shunting them like trains banging them together then pulling forward you don't have a leg to stand on if your car is damaged as you sign some crappy disclaimer when you cheque in also there is no heating in the bathrooms all the hallways smell like fresh pee !! please do your self and your car a favour and spend a little bit more it will be worth every penny

    « Perfect for a night before a flight »

Basic Best Western but ideal for the night before or after a flight. Good restaurant on site with an Indian and British menu and a bar. Easy check in, very hot water, good hairdryer, cumfy bed. Transport for airport starts at 6am, which you book and pay for in advance (£3 single). Takes 10 to 15 mins at 6am to South terminal.

    « Fantastic Service »

Stayed at the hotel before our flight. Excellent service and very nice rooms. The driver that took us and brought us back was top bloke. We was a bit nervous because of bad reveiws but dont believe them. I will be booking again in May 16 before my next holiday.

    « Overnighters »

We journeyed to Fuerte Ventura however due to flight times we stayed at the Skylane before the outgoing flight and on our return. The staff are excellent and the accommodation is brilliant. We'd recommend it to anyone and will certainly go there again.

    « Good Value »

We stayed for one night and left the car there for a week while we went away. the Skylane Hotel was welcoming and very clean, our room had heating which was needed, and also comfy bed, tea and coffee and a T.V. all at a very good price Transfer to the airport was £5 per person return,

    2
« Poor service and lack of care »

I booked this hotel for the night before a flight with parking, I also booked a nights stay on my return due to the lateness of the flight. When checking in I was charged for the shuttle to the airport and back before being told the shuttle was not available on the way back due to the time. I was not refunded just told I would be given £3 off at the bar, I never visited the bar so lost that £3. After an hour in my room I visited reception to inform them the heating was not working at which time the clerk took me back to the room and changed some settings. He informed me I had set it wrong despite the fact I followed the instructions on the wall. He set it differently to the instructions. An hour later I went back and informed the elder clerk it was not working and was given a small heater, the younger clerk said nothing. I suspect they knew it didn't work. The TV also didn't work. On my return from holiday I rang a local taxi company and was taken to the hotel for £5, the pre-bookable hotel taxi service for late check ins is about £7 (back hander?). The clerk could not operate the access card machine so I went outside for a smoke whilst he sorted it and checked in another couple. I got my card and went to my room (different from before so happy the heating might work). The card didn't work at which time the clerk appeared and quickly without prompt opened the door with a key. He informed me the card was processing and would work in a few minutes. The heating and TV worked :-) . The access card never did and I had to leave my door ajar when I went for a smoke (secure?? not). When I went for a smoke I spoke to the other person who checked in, his card didn't work either but at least he was able to leave the wife in the room so the room was secure. It was confirmed in the morning the machine to program cards was still not working so anyone checking in would have the same problem. ''just get the maid to let you in'' was the answer I got. Also the advertised check out is 11am but I had the cleaner knock me awake at 9:11am??? He got both barrels believe me. All in all not a good service and an embarrassment to the Best Western name. They really should drop this hotel.

    « Ideal »

We booked this hotel as a place to spend the night before our flight. I had read mixed reviews but must say that in my opinion the hotel was ideal. The room was clean and comfortable and service in the restaurant by the lovely Delores was the perfect start to our Christmas holiday. Add too that the minibus that took us to the airport and picked us up on our return, this was an all round pleasant experience. Our car was parked for us for the two weeks we were away and was waiting ready on our return. I would certainly use this hotel again.

« hotel stay with parking »

Value for money hotel with 15 days parking included. clean rooms and good Indian restaurant food.Mini bus driver very friendly and willing to help as were the rest of the staff. Will stay there again next time travelling from Gatwick

    « Horrible Hotel »

do not stay in this hotel, when we got into our room it was freezing cold all 3 windows were open, the heating didn't work, The bed had a massive hollow dip in it and squeeked at any movement so sleeping on the floor would have been a better option. the only good thing about this hotel is the shuttle service to the airport. A Premier Inn is better than this hotel.. Contacted the hotel and didnt hear back from them.. Rudeness..

    4
« Perfect to use for parking and room before flight »

We had used this hotel before when it was 'Days Inn'. It has been smartened up a bit by Best Western and for a 2star hotel is very good. The Indian meal we had there was delicious. The parking arrangements were also easy and the transfer to and from the airport was efficient.

    3
« Ideal for early morning flight »

Straightforward motel really. Nothing fancy as price donates. Efficient car parking and transfers to and from airport. Had a good night's sleep. Did not eat at hotel. Had a nightcap in unprepossessing basic bar area. No lounge area.

    3
« Don't be fooled by the name! »

Far from Gatwick terminal. I paid for their shuttle bus, but the public bus goes much more frequently from just outside for less. The rooms are tired, and beds uncomfortable. Certainly nothing special, and not even handy for flying.

    4
    « Mr & Mrs paster »

No problems at all , looks like hotel has been totally refurbished since the takeover from the DAYS INN . New carpets, curtains, beds , bathroom total makeover new sanitary ware , including wall tiles. Good 3 star plus.

    3
« Good for Gatwick parking »

On site parking swung this for us. Reasonable nights sleep before early start. TIP - get the hotel reception number as the one provided on the bus stop is 300 yards from the terminal and delays the bus departing to pick you up as it does a South North terminal sweep

« Cheap Cheerful and Quick Transfers »

You will struggle to find better value for money than this for a park and hotel stop over at Gatwick airport. Yes the hotel is basic and it's a basic minibus style transfer but here's the plus points> Hotel staff were friendly, particularly those in the bar. The room was a good size, clean and with a comfortable bed. Transfer was extra but again only £5pp return - quick and friendly driver. Return pick up means you might have to wait 10-15 mins but again it was quick to get from the airport and the driver was very helpful helping us retrieve our car. The restaurant/bar in the hotel serves great Indian food - I believe it does actually double up as an Indian Restaurant. A little pricey but some of the best Indian food I've had anywhere. The price - did I mention how much cheaper this is than most other options.

    3
    « Disappointed »

we have stayed here before, but this time the hot water was not hot just above tepid and the en-suite was cold as the radiator was cold. When I complained at reception I was told the hot water in that part of the hotel was not working. There was also an extended delay picking up at north terminal on our return. Price attractive but not up to what we expect from Best Western

    3
« Clean and convenient to the airport »

Stayed one night at this hotel The room was clean and tidy and adequate for a pre-flight hotel. We ate in the restaurant were the staff were brilliant but did not have enough of them to adequately provide a drinks and food service to the number of people in the restaurant. The food was ok but nothing special and over priced for the potion size and quality.

    3
« Easy for Gatwick airport »

Stayed one night and used purple parking as we were flying from Gatwick early in the morning. Had to wait at reception to be seen to even though they were not busy. Room was adequate for one night bed not very comfortable so did not sleep very well. Eat in restaurant and the curry was very good and reasonably priced.Asked for early morning call which we had and needed! Parking was easy and got back easily too as buses run very regularly.Good value for the price.

    3
    « Pros and cons »

Checked in had a great room. Good friendly service at front desk. After checking in we went to the restaurant and had a fantastic Indian meal, very authentic. Only downside was being told after 3/4 hour wait that the Chef had run out of Vegetables for the Vegetarian dish. Was very upset to find that a 5% service charge was added to the bill and does not go to the servers. No wonder they are not happy in their work! Shame on Best Western for this practice. When we returned the following week we insisted the service charge be removed so we could tip our waiter for his fantastic service to us. The second room we had had a couple of problems, the shower was poor and the water was only cool. All in all I would stay again purely based on price and the fantastic Indian food. DON'T PAY THE SERVICE CHARGE, TIP YOUR WAITER

    3
    « Comfortable »

Room was clean and comfortable at the back of the hotel so quiet. The bathroom was small but adequate although hot water was in short supply. Our TV was not working properly but they said this was down to dodgy signal. Breakfast ok you got what you were given and not asked what you wanted. Would I stay again ? Yes it's a typical transit hotel.

    4
    « A nice budget hotel.. »

For the price this was a bargain £40 bed and breakfast... Its basic but clean.. parking included, a really nice breakfast in adjoining restaurant... I cant fault it. Ideal for an overnight before flying from Gatwick.

    « Nice hotel »

I stayed here for the evening before a morning flight. I found a parking space easily as I only needed it for the evening. Check in was quick and the guy was friendly enough. He even informed and apologised for the wifi not working due to a fault. The room was good and clean. I slept well and was rested for the next day. Didn't eat at hotel so can't comment. I found this hotel good value for money and I would stay again.

    5
    « Very good visit »

We stopped here overnight when we had a next day flight. Check in was quick and easy. Room spotless clean and nice comfy beds.lots of hot water for shower. We had an evening meal in the restaurant, I had burghers my husband had steak and my son had Indian all were excellent. The price was really good for the quality of food and for this area. We had full English next day which was also of a great standered. Service was good staff friendly. Great value for money. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

    « Excellent friendly service »

We stayed for one night with our toddler son in a triple room, we asked for a quiet room and we got it at the end of the corridor so no passing residents which was great. Despite having 2 beds, the room was still spacious with chair and desk, soft lighting was a nice touch at turndown. The food was lovely; our son are from the English menu whilst we enjoyed an Indian, very friendly service, couldn't be faulted. Shuttle leaves every half hour and takes 10mins, £3 single trip/ £5 return. This is a no frills hotel but it is clean, everything you need is provided and the staff are extremely helpful - it was also extremely quiet from road/air noise and we all slept very well - we would stay again :)

    « Lovely and clean »

Stayed here for one night before we travel from Gatwick airport to Cancun early hours the next morning. The room was absolutely spotless, really couldn't fault it, lovely big bedroom and large bath/shower room, the room included tea and coffee facilities which was a nice touch as we weren't expecting a lot for the price we paid (£44) for the room. When we checked in we booked and paid £3 each for the shuttle to the airport which runs every half an hour. The restaurant wasn't anything special, but it does the job! We just had a burger and a steak, you can't go very wrong with either! The Indian meals we saw being served did look very nice though. Service was ok, the staff were very quiet, almost too quiet, putting our meals down then quickly walking away without asking if we wanted anything else, so my husband went and searched for condiments himself. So all in all a good nights stay before travelling the next day, would highly recommend this clean and cheap hotel.

    4
« Great value and location »

Booked a night's stay with four nights parking and transfers for a recent trip abroad for just under seventy pounds. The hotel was clean, and the rooms perfectly acceptable. The staff very helpful and the transfers were very quick and easy, which took a lot of the stress out of catching an early morning flight. We arrived quite late so didn't get to visit the attached Indian restaurant, however it certainly smelt good. All in all this hotel offered a hassle free stay, at a very reasonable price. Would definitely stay here again the next time I fly from Gatwick.

    2
    « Very Basic »

We used this hotel as we got a good deal through Late Rooms which included parking. First issue was that I realised prior to arrival that their timings for breakfast were cutting it too fine for our flight, but the hotel would not amend the booking themselves, this had to be done through Late Rooms to remove the breakfast element of the booking - fair enough and Late Rooms were great. On arrival the girl at reception was not particularly friendly but seemed professional enough. We advised that we wanted to book the shuttle bus to the airport and back and we paid for this. Our room, which was a triple was absolutely fine and I think recently refurbished and was clean. No complaints. The shuttle bus in the morning was good and the driver friendly. On the return journey my husband phoned from the airport for the shuttle bus and was told to go to different bus stop and ring from that phone instead - that bus stop was literally across the road, but my husband duly did as he was told. Some 45 minutes later the driver finally arrived. I did wonder if he was trying to be so late that the shuttle would no longer be operating. There was no greeting, conversation or manners from this man whatsoever - really rude. His choice of music in the vehicle laughably was 'A Whole New World'! When we got back to the hotel, the chap on reception then insisted we had not paid for the return shuttle and that we should have said when booking it that we would be returning to the hotel - seriously! We did pay for a return and why would we not when our car was in their car park - would've made our return home a bit tricky? He had no customer service whatsoever and wouldn't listen to anything we said. In the end I stumped up the money before my Hubby exploded. (I would point out that there was already some other altercation going on in reception at this time with other customers complaining loudly about the hotel service). When I checked on the Best Western Skylane website, I found a quote for two single journeys, had we chosen that, and the prices were lower than we had paid, so we were clearly ripped off. I complained direct to Best Western, copying in the hotel and was granted a refund and eventually an apology from the Manager of the hotel and offered a free shuttle return next time! This was clearly because they were forced to from above and I would not darken their door again.

    « GREAT OVERNIGHT STOP »

We stayed here on 09th November prior to an early morning flight . We had booked 8 days parking and two indian meal voucehers. The Indian was great and served with the utmost care and attention from the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed this as on previous hotel stops we had been hard pushed to find maels that suited us both and were of such quality. The attached bar is equally efficient despite the staff being rushed off their feet. The room was clean and confortable with plenty of tea/ coffee facilities. The reception staff were extremely helpful and booking in was stressfree . We arranged a cab as we had and early start and a wake up call also. We would recommmend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing start to their holiday.

What a great stay, easy to get to, reasonable parking rates for long stay. Very comfortable room with tea and coffee facilities. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Great little bar housing an Indian plus European food. Had a Indian dish, was superb. Good place to start your holiday.

« Rudeness spoils our stay »

We had stayed here two weeks previously and had had no problems. In an effort to be fair I have to say our room was good, beds comfortable, plentiful hot water and lovely towels. The meal we had in the resturant was very enjoyable. However on our return we were greeted by the news that I had booked and paid for not one but three rooms ! Obviously this was some kind of administration error (later confirmed by best western) but the ' gentleman ' on reception was completely intractable he insisted it was my fault entirely and they would not be refunding our money under any circumstances. He was rude and extremly unpleasant and the whole episode was very upsetting.... Something you really don't need when you're tired after a long flight! Best Western gave us amazing support I really can't thank them enough . So after two days of stress this unessasarry situation was eventually resolved! Needless to say we won't be returning.

    2
    « Not a nice stay »

Rooms ok , arrived 9.30 to be told restaurant is shut ,on website it states closes at 9.45 Aldo bar shuts earlier than it says too + most staff are ignorant & rude . We have often stayed in best western hotels but this one,s terrible

    2
« Clean fresh room but staff dont try too hard »

I don't generally look forward to staying in a hotel near an airport. Because of the steady stream of guests flying in and out and needing somewhere to stay its often the case that airport hotels don't try too hard. Let's start with the positives- rooms are clean fresh and new looking. But its much more than just a room for the night.I thought the atmosphere was strange. As has been remarked on many reviews staff were unfriendly and unhelpful.I didn't feel like a valued guest I felt I was interrupting Mr check in and Mr check out Man from something more important. It's disappointing that reviews on trip advisor don't get a Management response. If this hotel wasn't near an airport it would struggle, competition is strong these days. As it is the airport ensures this doesn't happen.

« Not a bad hotel all in all. Okay for a stop over for one night. »

Stayed here on arrival back from Venice before travelling onward into London. Shuttle was prompt from Gatwick and very comfortable. On arrival the person behind the desk seemed to be a little grumpy but apart from that all was ok. Room neat and clean. Bed comfortable and despite a few doors slamming overnight it was very quiet and we slept well. Shuttle bus took us back to gatwick to catch the Gatwick Express the following morning and the driver was accomodating and helpful. Breakfast (included) was a little unorganised with only one person helping in the dining room but cooked breakfast was nice and arrived on a lovely hot plate!

« Perfect for what we needed »

Stayed and parked here the night before our flight. Very reasonably priced to stay and leave your car whilst on holiday. Rooms were very clean and the restaurant was nice, food was very tasty! The beer prices were a bit pricey though :-( the shuttle bus very punctual was not waiting long to be picked up. Breakfast is included in the price but due to early flight times we could not get it, so asked if we could have the breakfast on our return as we were landing back at 7am to which we was refused even though we had paid for it !

    « terrible hotel »

Stayed here for 1 night. Very reasonable price but absolutely terrible in all aspects. On checking in the man on reception had absolutely no customer service skills and hardly spoke to us. The room was ok i guess on first impression but the bed was not a full size double and i could feel the springs digging in my side during the night. Very uncomfortable. In fact my husband found it so uncomfortable he slept on the floor. Evening meal was a bit of a strange set up with very little staff who were trying to wait on the tables as well as take orders for takeaways. There were menus for both english and indian both located in the same cold restaurant with absolutely no atmosphere. On checking in we werent given any details of breakfast timings and went down at 09.10 to be told breakfast had finished. A very irritated looking lady told us we could have some toast but to make sure we left by 09.30 She continued to tidy up around us whilst we ate giving out negative irritated vibes throughout. As our room looked out over the carpark I was shocked to see how close the cars were parked. They were literally bumper to bumper. Luckily we did not have a car with us as I would not have left a car with them. Checkout was much the same as checking in except there was absolutely no conversation by the man behind the desk. He just took the room card and walked off. I would never stay at this hotel again or recommend to anyone

« Only for Lionel Richie fans. »

The hotel is clean and basic; there is evidence of refurbishment in the bedrooms but some public areas have a decidedly 1970s feel to them. If you want to use their airport transfer service, book it on arrival, else you may find yourself having to book a taxi instead, as the appear to have just one vehicle even at what might be deemed as prime transfer times. The restaurant serves both English and Indian cuisine. Everyone in our group who ate English was disappointed by their meal (e.g. Rubbery salmon, a medium rare steak that was well done), but those who had Indian enjoyed it. And Lionel Richie? The bar/restaurant appears to only own one CD which at the fourth time of listening to can be a bit draining, particularly if you're not a fan.

    « Not good »

Left car here as was flying from gatwick first of all it would have been nice for someone to tell me they had changed there name so we wasn't driving around looking for another hotel with a different name we had to be at the airport for 06.30 so we thought it would be good to order a taxi rather than try and get on the first shuttle bus was told the bus was cheaper by the hotel but still booked taxi and it was cheaper than shuttle (£6) We were then put in a room overlooking carpark so we heard every person who came across the carpark with there suitcase and all the people who had been out and the others who had a earlier flights no one had a good nights sleep On the bright side food was good apart from the sur charge on the food £3.50 not happy Will not be stopping here again

« Ideal for stopover and airport parking »

We stayed here the night before our honeymoon we found this through our travel agent as a budget hotel with airport parking we checked in at about 7 30 pm the staff on reception were very friendly and helpful and asked us to hand our car keys in when we were all sorted we went up to our tripple room (we had our daughter with us) which was lovely and looking newly refurbished couldnt fault it! We thought we would pop to the bar for a quick drink to kick start our honeymoon the bar/restaurant was quite dull and boring and the barman wasnt to enthused to have us there just for a drink! (Hence the reason for only a 4 star rating) we had booked our airport transfer and everything was clearly explained to us! The shuttle transfer was very prompt and easy and collection on our return was the same and when we arrived back at the hotel we were expectef and our car was all ready for us to head off the receptionist invited us to use any facilities we needed before departing! All in all this hotel was very good and exactly as advertised

    « Very disappointing »

I stayed at this hotel on 01/10/15 after a 17 hour flight. You have to phone for a minibus to collect you from the airport and this is not a courtesy service, they charge you £5 but you don't learn that until you check in. The room was ok, clean and with a comfortable bed. The hotel proudly boasts two menus in the restaurant, one European and one Indian. Being fond of Indian food I chose the Indian option. The starter was delicious but the main was mediocre and a I suspected boil in the bag. The waitress told me that the bar closed at 10pm which I thought was a bit early for residents. Apparently you can get a drink after that time from the night porter if you require one. I went to the local pub for a couple of hours but that is a taxi ride away. It was the breakfast that really let the place down however. I was informed that it was a buffet and what a feast it turned out to be - NOT! There were no places laid up on any of the tables so the first job was to find your own cutlery etc. There was a very small selection of cereal and on another table a very tired looking buffet in inadequately heated bains -marie some awful looking scrambled egg, some very tired looking sausages and some equally tired looking bacon. There were also two pieces of old and cold cold toast. The waiter seemed to find the early morning customers a huge inconvenience. When I asked if it was possible to get a couple of poached eggs on toast he went to ask the chef and returned to say that I could have them but that it would take some time. I replied that around three minutes was the norm. The tea and coffee was on yet another table and it was then that I made the discovery that there was only one milk jug for the whole room and that this was for cereal as well. There was one elderly couple in for breakfast at the same time as me who got really angry. They complained that everything was cold and inedible and that basically been charged £11 for two bits of toast. They were also unhappy about the marathon to obtain a drop of milk for their tea. I had to agree with them. I pointed out the shortcomings to the desk staff at check out and they promised to look into the matter. They would be well advised to do so. I would be very reluctant to stay there again.

« Good rooms, expensive restaurant »

Rooms clean and basic but for a one night airport stay, budget hotel at a budget price. Restaurant resembles a works canteen, dirty and untidy breakfast buffet, a member of staff came out of the kitchen with a dirty dark grey mop to clean up. Looked at that and left without eating. I wish I had seen that the previous evening and I would not have eaten there. Restaurant very expensive for quality and portions served. Wine very expensive £5.50 a glass. We have booked to stay here again, but will not eat here

« Good for parking and transfer »

Stayed here one night and had 15 days parking found elderly gent at reception rather abrupt in his manner. Room comfy with every thing you could need .We found it noisy as other guests staying that night spent the night in and out of there rooms and knocking on there doors and chatting loudly .Food in the bar wasn't great. The transfer was great lovely driver was easy to arrange pick up other end.even gave us directions on how to get out of Reigate which was brill

« Good transfer and pick up from Gatwick »

Our room was comfortable and quiet at night. We used the restaurant for the evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed the indian meal we chose. Breakfast was pleasant although as we arrived near the end there was little choice. In view of this they reduced the cost without us asking. The downside was that as we did not have a flight until the afternoon it was more comfortable to go and sit and wait to check in at the airport due to the fact this hotel does not have a lounge to sit in. We paid to be transferred and picked up ( very reasonable rate cheaper than the cab firm we usually use) which went well both ways. We waited 10 minutes to be picked up on arrival back at Gatwick which was good considering the amount of traffic. We would stay here again.

« Good cheap little stop over before a flight »

Great little stop over for early flight , minutes away from airport, cheap as chips at only £55... Just make sure you turn the heating off in the room before going to sleep, as we woke up melting but this was our fault no fault of the hotel... Free parking for the one night stay

« Overnight stay and Parking »

A different type of overnight stay, but saying that a good value for money stay and park option. Clean room and great transfers to airport, going to stand 8 means a long walk to the terminal. Restaurant ok for a bar snack before travel, breakfast does not start until 0700hrs. Would use the hotel again, staff may need to improve their customer relations techniques.

« Rooms average for overnight stay, food terrible »

Stayed one night before flying out of Gatwick on a long haul holiday. Only one disabled parking bay, which did not cause too much problem as I was dropped off at the door but if I was driving on my own would have caused many difficulties. The room was average. Clean, tidy but on par with a travel lodge rather than a premier inn. The bar and restaurant was a huge disappointment. We were a party of 8 staying to travel together so wanted somewhere to meet up, chat, have a drink and then eat. The bar and restaurant area was in need of refurbishment. There was no soft seating area, only tables and chairs set out like a school canteen. The tables were not very clean and it was very cold, although after quite a few people from different tables mentioned it the heating was turned on. I ordered salmon that was inedible. It had obviously been frozen, defrosted in the microwave and then over cooked in the microwave. I brought this to the managers attention and he offered to replace it with another one but I chose not to take it. Two of my party had steak, which they felt had been frozen and defrosted. Those who ordered from the Indian menu were happy with their food so the tip is do not order from the English menu. The price we paid for the room and car parking was reasonable but if I had a choice I would stay else where.

    « Disappointed »

This hotel has is would seem changed hands and chains many times and is badly in need of some care and attention. It is very tired and in need of refurbishment. Rooms are reasonable in size and cleanliness but need updating and improved maintenance. Used it for parking while away and car was returned unharmed but the way they were parked on site did not inspire confidence. Bar and restaurant was also badly in need of improvement. We made the mistake of eating of the English menu in the bar/restaurant which was very poor quality but non the less expensive. (they do also offer an Indian restaurant)All in all I could not recommend staying here.

    « Best Western, Gatwick »

Stayed at the hotel en route to flying from Gatwick airport for a holiday. On checking in, reception staff tried to make me pay for the room instead of being covered by points from the Loyalty Programme. Had difficulty getting the staff to understand the email from the BW Loyalty program confirming that points would cover the stay. They were not very helpful or particularly friendly.

« Hotel OK, but bring a packed lunch »

The "Restaurants and bar" were a miserable experience. Dirty glasses (the first had grapefruit or orange pulp clinging to the inside) The second had a lipstick rim which the barman wiped with a glasscloth. I declined and drank from the bottle. The restaurant menus are laminated and in dire need of renewal, being sticky and generally filthy. With the exception aof the barman the staff were doing their best but were obviously undertrained (if trained at all). They seem to take advantage of their captive audience (there are no alternative bars or restaurants nearby) and obviously feel that they have no beed to make any effort.

    « Late Flight »

Getting off a flight at 1am and 3 hours drive from home, this hotel is ideal as a stop-over. The room was extremely clean, well decorated (very recently I would guess), and comfortable. Breakfast was very good value (items could have been presented more aesthetically and some of the mugs were chipped), but overall very good.

    « Clean hotel »

Stayed one night prior to flying out from Gatwick . Very clean room but couldn't get heating in bathroom to work. Food in restaurant ok . Came as part of the package but we had to pay extra for dessert which was a bit disappointing

Arrived at about 12.30am, round a car park space, parked but told to park elsewhere unless I turn the car round 90 degrees. Not a good start - no signs to indicate how/where to park. Went to reception to be met by same guy, not too friendly check-in, had to ask times for breakfast and where it was. Room was a twin - made up of 2 singles and a double. Not too much room after that but it was late, very poor condition, peephole in door was blocked with a tissue, safety lock held in by 2 loose screws, couldn't stop the a/c and there's more. Had to go to reception to ask about wifi password, receptionist pointed to a sign on the desk. Breakfast was really basic, no corn flakes, crap orange juice, no decaff coffee yet some in room, no fried eggs, really disappointed.

« Good location and rooms : versus poor service and breakfast »

On the plus side, location very good for Gatwick, parking on site which saves time and effort and a minibus transfer (pay extra). The rooms and bathrooms looked newly refurbished, presumably when Best Western took over from the Days Inn, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Ramp up to reception and rooms on the ground floor. On the minus side, it was extremely poor customer service, totally out of character for a Best Western hotel, the worst I have experienced anywhere, some training needs I would think. It didn't help that there was a mix up on the reservation booked by phone and followed up by email. The restaurant is dark, bar like although clean. Self service, (English breakfast cooked to order) sparse, poor selection, instant coffee granules from a plastic container, tea bags the same, really grim. But I guess you get what you pay for and at £74 a night, you take the choice. Room for much improvement.

    « Bad customer service »

where do I start 1.When checked in they would not accept a Best Western Travel card that was worth money. After a few calls to Best western they accepted it. 2. Young receptionist very NOT engaged and could not care less for service, was also very rude to Best Western lady on phone trying to sort me out. 3. First day breakfast went to restaurant am very allergic to mushrooms and they were next to the eggs in a shared pan. Asked waiter if could get different eggs he said NO. 4. Room never got serviced so slept in dirty room second night. 5. Maid on second day just opened our door without knocking, just walked in unreal and did not even say sorry- just told me I should have displayed Do Not Disturb sign up. and also said check out is 11am. well guess what ime it was 11am on the dot. Informed her she should still knock on any door as a common courtesy. NOT very pleasant. 6. Check out same young guy that was there when checked in, very disengaged with us and asked for a receipt was told I have not paid yet, explained to him I had paid night before and he said well the guy that done it should finish the paperwork and he could not do it. 7. A thank you for staying wih us might have been a good way to end our conversation but NOTHING was said. Just a look at why are you bothering me. .

« Practical and a good starting point »

Eased our start into our holiday very well. Room was well appointed and all as you would expect. We had dinner in the hotel and the selection of curries was excellent. We booked it for its links with parking for 10 days and all went very smoothly. We used Purple parking and I have to say the service was excellent. At 6-50am I was not ready for the very friendly and helpful man on the desk it was a very pleasant start to our holiday, parking the car!! All was explained and on return was very simple and easy to retrieve our car. Will use both hotel and car service again.
