    « Great value »

Not exactly the Ritz but our experience was very good. Clean rooms, lovely staff, decent breakfast, everyone willing to help with any requests. Location not bad, not in the little town itself, but just a few miles down the road from the historic downtown.

« Pony Soldier Inn and Suites, Flagstaff »

Hotel was very nice, Breakfast was good. Room was comfortable and close to an exit which makes it easier for my husband. Only problem was a glitch in the Bestwestern site, kept telling me all the hotels were booked so I had to call instead of booking online. I would stay there again.

« Great stay minus the breakfast. Plan on not eating here. »

Great place to stay. Breakfast items need to be addressed. Would not eat here, but the coffee was good. Overall experience I will rate 8 out of 10 for the area and hotel selection. The pool needs some attention as well. Not the cleanest.

    « Great stay »

Best Western Pony Soldier Inn & Suites offers a restful and energizing stay. It's access to Arizona's northcentral area provides many opportunities to enjoy the mountains and the Grand Canyon. A must visit for a Southwest USA road trip.

    « Great stop »

On my way from Route 66 to Colorado, had to find a place to stay the night. Luckily, I found this little gem. The hotel was almost booked up, and the only room available was a pet friendly room, which was fine with me. It was clean and quiet. The employees are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was complimentary and better than your average complimentary continental breakfast. I didn't use or view the pool, I did see the pet relief area and thought it was very nice and well kept. I recommend staying here if your in the area.

    « Cali to Virginie »

Breakfast was good. Pool was dirty. Room nice. Construction ongoing. Price was fair. Had good dog area for potty runs. Even had potty bags. Not much to see on a walk. Parking was easy. Lighting okay. Luggage cart had flat wheels. Hard to push, if loaded down.

    « Undiscovered Gem! »

One of the best places to stay in Flagstaff! Centrally located and remodeled to perfection! This place has everything including budget friendly rates and an indoor heated pool and spa! The rooms were super quiet - must be well insulated! I didn't hear any trains nor the boys next door! The morning breakfast was wonderful with real hot food! I will stay here again and will stay here when visiting Flagstaff on my personal time. And the staff is so helpful and friendly, it felt like I was checking into an intimate B&B. Super impressed!

Room was large with creaky floors, bathroom sink that needs unclogging, toilet made for person shorter than 5 ft. Exhaust fan in bathroom very loud.Staff was very friendly and breakfast was good. Good location close to 2 restaurants that we walked to. Lousy view from window from our 2nd floor walk up. No microwave.

    « Like New! »

This Best Western was older and the rooms were relatively small. However, they were recently redecorated and felt like new. The shower and towels were very nice, and the beds extremely comfortable. The only drawback was that it was on a very busy road and right next to the train tracks. I was worried about the noise, but didn't hear a thing all night! Also, the breakfast was wonderful--sausage, gravy, eggs, potatoes, fruit and much more! The breakfast room was very large with several TV's and plenty of tables. We stay at a lot of Best Westerns, and this was a nice surprise!

    « Exceeding Expectations »

My wife and I are from Prescott and had some business to tend to in Flag and didn't want to drive back home at night. So we were looking for a clean inexpensive room for the night. This property although older, was clean and the room had modern touches. The morning breakfast may very well have been the best hotel continental breakfast I ever had. This is my new Flagstaff stay from now on.

    « small room »

Michaela at check-in was great. Process went smooth. I asked for recommendations for eating and where she sent me was pretty good. The room was pretty small and the bathroom even smaller. The room was also showing it's age. The place needs to be updated. Other than that, it was ok. And since I travel alone it was good enough for me. The breakfast buffet was fantastic!

    « Flagstaff Best Western »

King suite with 2 bathrooms and 2 rooms. Second room had pull-out bed with a terrible mattress that needed to be replaced. Its adjacent bathroom was handicapped equipped which was great Good lighting for both rooms Unable to set heating unit on auto so had to run all night making one room hot. Room had refrigerator but no freezer in it so they accommodated us by putting our ice in another location. Breakfast was included--eggs, sausage, toast, sweet rolls, cereal, juice coffee, tea, hot chocolate, yogurt, fruit Staff very helpful so we hope they fix mattress soon

« Great overnight stay in Flagstaff on route 66 »

This hotel had everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay over on route 66. Large, clean and bright king room with separate sitting area. Very friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast in pleasant and large dining area. Although the hotel is not located in downtown central area, there are restaurants close by and the route 66 walkway with historic info is across the street. Would stay here again and highly recommend it.

    « A diamond in the rough »

When you pull up to this place, it doesn't look like much. It's an older property, and it shows a bit on the outside. However, once we stepped inside, we were impressed. We arrived late and the ladies at the desk were friendly and sweet, and there was hot coffee ready for us in the lobby. When we arrived in our room, my husband declared it the nicest Best Western room he'd ever seen. They've done a nice job of updating the rooms. It was clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast wasn't amazing, but was in a nice room and provided bacon, eggs, potatoes, and breads. The only negative at breakfast was the sad canned fruit, which we skipped. This place is a bargain, and a great option if you are passing through Flagstaff.

« Excellent property at western edge of Flagstaff, AZ. »

I stayed two nights at the end of October 2016. I had a wonderfully situated room and the location of the property worked very nicely for me. I visited several national monuments to the west and northwest of Flagstaff so driving was very easy. If you like to be in the city center then you may want to look for another lodging.

« Lovely hotel, in beautiful Flagstaff »

We stayed at the Flagstaff Best Western Pony Soldier Inn for two nights as part of our Route 66 adventure. Flagstaff is a beautiful place, nestled under the San Francisco Peaks and the hotel was great too. The room, 215, had two huge beds, with modern touches. It was a very quiet room too. Parking was free and right next to the main hotel building. The hotel served breakfast in a large separate annexe and the choice was great. Lots of fresh food, on a great turnover. We walked along to the Fat Olives for a meal one night (excellent!) and then virtually next door to Miz Zip's (a real diner feel) on the other.

    4
    « Friendly and quiet »

We were quite frazzled (by United Airlines) upon arrival, but the friendly and helpful front desk staff told us where we could eat in the neighborhood. The rooms were buffered from any traffic noise; American breakfast was good. The matresses were very firm and I was pleased that there were two luggage racks (I am surprised at how rare this is!).

    5
« Great place to stay »

We chose this hotel on the fly and very glad we did. The staff and quality of the hotel was one of the better ones we have stayed at in the western states so fare. We will return to Flagstaff for sure.

    « Wonderful hotel »

My son and I stayed at this property for 2 nights. We had a great stay. The first night we arrived very late and the way we had made the reservation was a little bit confusing; yet, the night auditor was very courteous and resolved the situation with absolute professionalism. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great. You occasionally hear the train sound but it is not that loud or bad. The place is also close to a number of restaurants.

    4
« Older, but nice, and Great Breakfast »

I travel for business a lot, but I have pretty relaxed needs: a firm bed, pool area with hot tub, and a nice breakfast. This place is older, but seems clean and pretty well-maintained. The pool area needs attention: very old and worn. But the hot tub is great: right temperature, and good jets. The room was clean, comfortable beds, great shower. The free breakfast was among the best I've enjoyed: hot eggs, potatoes, sausage, fresh fruit, and other goodies. I see some people complain about train noise. There are a lot of trains going by... but they weren't that loud, and didn't disturb my sleep.

    4
« Nice if traveling with your dog! »

Nice hotel on the east side of town. We have stayed here before and brought our small dog with us this time. They have a nice, grassy pet area to let your dog do their business. We stayed in the king suite which was a plus. The bed was real comfortable and the room had two bathrooms! The complimentary breakfast was ample and the room could accommodate a lot of people and not feel crowded. The only issue was they put us on the second floor with no elevator. My husband is disabled, so it was a struggle for him.

    2
« Best Western Pony Solder, Flagstaff, AZ »

We spent one night at the Best Western Pony Soldier in Flagstaff and would not stay there again. Although the room was clean, the bed comfortable and the complimentary breakfast very good, the room was small and there was no table for our laptop. Our room was on the second floor and without an elevator we ended up leaving our suitcases in the trunk of the car and carrying items to the room as needed. What was worse, the traffic and train noise was extremely loud and continued all might. For the price, it was not worth it.

    3
    « Small and costly »

We have stayed at over 30 BW's in the last year and found this one to have the smallest rooms. The breakfast was typical BW type only it seemed to lack any flavor. The staff were very professional and helpful and the room was clean and well equipped. We felt that at a price of over $200 a night it should have been more.

    4
    « Arizona Adventure »

The hotel is nice but the room was very small. The bed was comfortable but we could have used a more significant blanket. Food for breakfast ran out and was not replenished after 9am even though breakfast went to 9:30. Need to stay in one room farthest away for the main road as trains are real loud! Breakfast room is large with plenty of sitting area.

    « What a dump »

Second rate hotel. Customer service is a disaster. They explain problems off saying it is a problem with corporate. No accountability. Go somewhere else. They asked me to say more, so the front desk was rude. Completely a disaster.

    « Two nights, enjoyed... »

On arrival at the BW Pony Soldier, we were a bit skeptical, as this looked like an older facility [it is], but it turned out to be clean, crisp and well maintained. We were well received at check-in, and were offered an upgrade [happily accepted] because I am a Platinum BW member. There is no elevator in this hotel, so if you were given a room on the second floor, and had mobility issues...it could be worth asking for a different location. The room was awesome - a large, double sized room, with two bathrooms...we took full advantage of it. We slept comfortably - and in the morning, were treated to a delightful, included breakfast - which was actually served in a separate building - extremely clean, bright and well maintained. The food was excellent and the lady who maintained things seemed to work hard to keep it so. We spent two nights at this BW and were quite satisfied with the facility. Only complaint came from an outside source...inconsiderate tourists [foreign] on a bus tour, who seemed to feel the need to shout back and forth at each other at 0600.

    « MR AND RR »

We asked if we could upgrade from the Queen we had reserved and the associate working the front desk got us a very good deal on a King Suite. Included breakfast was very good?Room was very clean and roomy and the King bed was very comfortable?Parking lot was well lit for security?I asked if this was a safe neighborhood and she said it was?Trains go by right across the street but did not bother us?Overall our stay and room were very nice..

« Nice place, rooms updated, very good breakfast »

This was our second stay here and I will stay again when in the area. It seems to be an older hotel bacause of the narrow doorways, but the rooms are updated. The room was very clean and it was nice to lay in bed and have the sheets and pillows smell fresh and clean. Nice sized rooms with desk/chair, two queen beds and a chair with an ottoman. Very quiet which made it nice for a good night's sleep. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good, actually quite impressive for a hotel breakfast. Could not have asked for anything more.

« Good value for the money »

The appearance of the hotel and the decor wasn't absolutely fantastic but it was clean, the breakfast was great and the staff were professional and helpful. It's a good choice for a quick stop for travelers.

    5
    « NAU visit »

Really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was good and open til 9:30am. The bed was very comfortable. Our king suite had plenty of room (bathrooms are a little tight, but with 2 we saved time getting ready). BW is not walking distance to NAU and a little more pricey, but we were able to use a promotion that I earned with BW.

    « Fantastic! »

Slept great on their King bed; large room with quality amenities; comfortable furniture; Solid WiFi connection; superior breakfast selections; friendly staff; reasonable price. We could ask for nothing more!

    « Great Stay »

Stayed at this hotel for three nights while visiting the Grand Canyon and other National Parks in the area. Excellent experience. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Good hot breakfast. Would recommend to anyone.

    4
    « Passing through Flagstaff »

Fine choice for a hotel and good location. Breakfast is in a separate structure - one of the best free breakfasts I have had. Pool is also in a separate building (did not use). Room was upstairs and, while not large, was adequate and comfortable. Good bed. Be aware that there are few restaurants within walking distance. I went to one (Chinese restaurant) close by but had to walk in the dark and while I was assured the area is very safe it felt a little uncomfortable. Better to drive to a restaurant for dinner.

    4
    « To the rescue »

We have adopted the practice of staying at BW Pony Soldier whenever our travels bring us to Flagstaff. The breakfast is very good. The staff is friendly and helpful. On our last stay, after breakfast, we were unable to get back into our room to retrieve our luggage and get going. (Magnetic key may have been affected by being in my pocket next to iPhone.) Desk clerk immediately and courteously devoted herself to solving our problem efficiently and speedily. No time lost. On our way rejoicing.

    2
« Ancient and out of date »

Everything outdated No bars in tubs for handicapped people Vents in exhaust fan full of dust The staff was friendly and helpful but I wouldn't stay here agaiin Trains go by every 15 minutes all night long making sleep difficult

    4
    « Large suites »

Clean, comfortable rooms. Park by rooms. Friendly desk staff. We got a king suite, with two bathrooms, two flat screen Tvs, fridge, and microwave. Suite also had a easy chair, sofa bed, and desk. Strong WiFi. Good water pressure. Ok towels.

    2
    « Friendly Staff »

This was our 2nd time staying here while visiting our daughter at NAU. I tried to change our reservation after our 1st time here but could not find another hotel room due to it being family weekend. The first time we stayed we were on the bottom floor and could hear every footstep above us. The walls are very thin, the train goes by every 1/2 hour. Bring ear-plugs! The room could definitely been cleaner and I think an upgrade to the pillows would be a plus. Before our 2nd time stay I called the front desk to make sure we had a top floor and a quieter room. They were very accommodating and this room was definitely better! No elevators, but that was not a big deal to us Full breakfast in the building next to us was pretty good, lots of variety. I do think that the breakfast should run until 10:00 am rather than 9:30 on weekends. Overall not bad but due to the noise we will not be staying here again.

    5
« Large, clean rooms... but no elevator »

The most impressive thing about this hotel was the size of the rooms! We walked into a bedroom and living room arrangement with TWO full bathrooms... for just my husband and me! There was also a TV in each room. The two rooms were connected by an open area. The room was also very clean and the king-size bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. One of the drawbacks was that there is no elevator, and we were placed on the second floor. We don't travel lightly, so we had quite a bit of stuff to haul up and down the stairs. The front desk person offered to help us, but then never showed up to help. The traffic flow around the hotel is weird, too. The cars are pulled in at a slant the same way on both sides. Another nice thing about the hotel is that the breakfast area is really large, and is actually located in a separate, but close by, building. They had quite a few selections for breakfast, including hot items such as pancakes, eggs, and sausage. It is very close to I-40. (But be careful if you are using Google Maps to get there. It took us in a really weird direction.) Overall, it was a great hotel and we would stay here again.

  • 1
« Across the street from rail line »

The problem is the proximity of the building to the rail line that is extremely active all night. There were no problems with the staff, the building, the facilities, or the price. The breakfast was first rate and the young lady who checked us in suggested a great restaurant next door to the hotel.

« Nice Large Roooms in an Older But Well Maintained Best Western - Flagstaff, Arizona »

We stayed for one night at the Best Western Flagstaff. Its a very well maintained Best Western with large rooms. The thing that happily surprised me was that we had two rooms (bedroom, sitting room) and full bathrooms as well. The king size bed was super comfortable. There is a TV in the bedroom. There is also a large sitting room with comfortable couch, desk, TV. We found it nice and it it would be great for solo travelers to families. I liked it that they had very nice local photos (Grand Canyon, etc) in the rooms. I also liked it that the power outlets for all the electronic needs today was very nicely placed. The breakfast room is one of the best I have been at for a Best Western. It had lots of seating with comfortable chairs and tables. They deliver a local morning paper to one's room that we read during breakfast. Its great that its local news. The breakfast was awesome with hot and cold items. There was eggs, potatoes, biscuits with gravy, and good sausage. There were pastries. There was juice, coffee and hot beverages. The fruit salad was awesome and healthy. They had yogurt. And there was a lot more.....So plenty of food for all. It was good. The place is a two floor Best Western. One note is that they only have stairs so if any mobility issues do specify to stay on the first floor. We stayed on the second. There is a patio to sit outside and look towards the mountains as well as a swimming pool. The staff is friendly, efficient and awesome. A shout out to housekeeping for keeping the rooms. Its on a main road (Route 66). It was an easy drive to get to places such as the historic downtown area and Lowell Observatory, where we went for the night program and awesome viewing through the telescopes. Parking is free.

    « Pleased »

I have nothing bad to say about our stay other than when we arrived, the building had a seventies look, and I thought I had made a terrible mistake. I was wrong! The rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable. The beds were also quite comfortable. Breakfast was a combination of hot food, fruit, danish, cereals, yogurt....almost anything you could want. We had an enjoyable stay here.

    3
« Overpriced for an old hotel »

I understand Flagstaff is an expensive town for hotels but to pay over $200.00/night here was way too much. The hotel is very old...their lobby computers were so slow had to give up trying to use them. The free breakfast was good...the bed was very comfortable & the room was clean. We stayed in a suite which was large...looks like it use to be 2 normal rooms they made into 1 suite as it also had 2 bathrooms.

    4
« Nice place for one night »

Clean, friendly staff. Room a bit on the smaller side but not a problem for us. Great hot breakfast which we appreciated as we were fueling up for a long hike. A bit away from the main area but Salsa Brava, a great restaurant is right up the block.

    4
« Best Western Flagstaff AZ »

Good option from the crowded 198 exit hotels. The hot breakfast was very good. We tried other hotels prior to going to the Best Western. So, do your self a favor and stop at the Best Western first. Enjoy!

    4
    « Excellent customer service. »

Customer service was outstanding. Somethings were not wheelchair friendly: breakfast items out of reach, extremely steep driveway and walkway for wheelchair; bet too high for ease of access. Good value

    5
« Nicely renovated, clean, and quiet »

Our second stay at the Pony Soldier Inn was even better than the first. Our king suite was the size of two rooms, with two full bathroom areas, a sofa bed and 2nd TV in the second room. Breakfast is served in an adjacent building with plenty of seating and a staff that kept everything hot and freshly refilled. The trains don't use whistles at night, so there is no more noise than the cars on route 66. If you're traveling with a family or just want a lot more room to spread out, get a suite. It's well worth the price.

    4
    « Great value! »

If you have the time to drive one & a half hours to the Grand Canyon then this place is a great value to stay at. This is an older location that has been refurbished. The room (king suite) was spacious. It was looked like 2 rooms at one time that was made into one. It has 2 bathrooms and a large sitting room, with 2 TV's, one in the sitting room and one in the bed room. The breakfast area was the largest I have ever visited. It is in a totally separate building with both inside and outside sitting. There was a paper at every door in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful.

    5
    « Best Best Western Experience-Sept. 2016 »

This was by far the nicest Best Western we stayed in during our two weeks on the road. It was lovely to have the sitting area as well. Blue spruce tree to enjoy, a fireplace lit for morning breakfast, and kind and helpful staff.

« Great Best Western on route 66! »

Booked with BW on points. Otherwise, it would have cost me close to 200$ (Labour Day weekend). Normally below the 100$ mark. This hotel is old school motel, refurbished for the 21st century. The lobby appeared well renovated. Check in was very friendly. Was provide a room at the back, on the 2nd floor, away from the traffic (and train) noise. The room was large and well appointed, clearly renovated, 2 good double beds, new furniture, fridge, microwave, large LCD set with plenty of channels, free wifi. There is a pool and jacuzzi, located in an enclosed area (so i guess this is opened year round). There is no gym here (mind you, if you come to hike, no need for it). The breakfast area is in another building, and is also renovated. Excellent selection of food, with biscuit and gravy, sausage, HI Express pancake machine, fruits, yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc... Plenty of parking. Uber will set you around 8$US to go downtown. Overall, recommended.

    5
« Great Place to Stay in Flagstaff »

The Pony Soldier Inn was a great, pet friendly spot. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. The location is about 3 miles from the main downtown area, but that is not a bad thing. We will absolutely stay there the next time we are in the Flagstaff area.

    5
« stay at best western »

the place is clean and comfortable. the staff was very knowlegable of the surrounding area for food and fuel. nice surroundings mountains and scenic areas to see. anyone t hat stays there is in for a nice stay.

    « Horrible Experience »

Terrible customer service. Was rudely treated by front desk staff. No greeting; simply asked if we had a reservation. No elevator service to second floor. Had to leave suitcase in car (we'd been traveling for a month). When asked, would not give us a room on first floor. No one offered to assist us in getting luggage to second floor. Room dark and dreary--old--needs makeover. TV did not work in bedroom. Would not recommend. Horrible experience.

    5
« Nicely upgraded and terrific breakfast!! »

We have stayed at this property numerous times as we get BW points. We stayed recently as our daughter started at NAU. They have upgraded their rooms very nicely, at least the one we stayed in. The breakfast area has been completely upgraded and is very nice. I think their breakfast, which is included in the room stay, is one of the best! It goes way beyond a continental breakfast. They offer eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, fruit, coffees, juices, yogurt, cereals. What a great deal! I would highly recommend this place.

    4
    « Pleasant experience »

I made the reservation directly with the hotel online, and chose a King room. The site stated it was on the second floor, but did not state that there is no elevator. My partner then noticed in the AAA book that there is no elevator. I called the hotel directly, explained what I had done, and was given a King Suite (which is on the ground floor) at no additional charge. That, to me, is real customer service! The people were pleasant and helpful and the hotel was clean and in good repair. They are, however across a 4-lane road (Rt 66) from train tracks, with trains running all night, so anyone who is a light sleeper may have a problem.

    4
« Modern hotel room, good breakfast included »

We spent the night here, to be picked up in the morning for our van tour of the Grand Canyon. The room was fine - good mattresses, plenty of hot water - and the air conditioning worked well although it was a bit noisy. There was a surprisingly good breakfast included in the price of the room, with quite a few hot and cold offerings. We were all well satisfied! Best of all, the staff was very gracious in allowing us to leave our car in the parking lot while we went off for the day.

    2
    « Please pass up »

The breezeway we entered from was AWFUL...dark, dirty entry to a dismal, tiny room, the bathroom tinier. Bed was terrible and air conditioning kept us up all night. We expect clean and fair service for what one pays and this certainly was not worth 125.00 per night. Awful facility BW... the breakfast was quite good, but cleanliness, bed, bathroom and air conditioning overshadowed..

    « Pony Soldier Rocks! »

This was our 2nd time staying at the Pony Soldier Inn, and it was fantastic both times. Very nice desk staff, accommodated our request for a different room location graciously. Great breakfast, well stocked and nice large room. There was even a Sunday paper outside our room in the morning. Nice touch! Do keep in mind that the train tracks are nearby and it goes by frequently. However, it's just the rumble, no horns or bells, so not a big issue for us. The room was very nicely appointed and modern.

    « Horrible! »

The rudest staff I have ever dealt with in my life! (NO exaggeration) HORRIBLE hospitality. I got a suite and it was the only room they supposedly had available. Found the room FILTHY & outdated. A/c did not work properly due to build up of dirt and fan in bathroom was same situation. Front desk never answered phone so I kept having to go up front. No shampoo, conditioner or other personal amenities filled or left. Asked front desk to take care of at least 3 times- was ignored. Asked for extra pillows and manager just gave me attitude as she gave me 2 extra (for a room with three adults and only 3 small pillows to begin with. ) when I asked for more as I am disabled and need good back support when I sleep was told that is all they had. Paid for two nights up front and so was stuck, no refunds, not even a discount offered. No one ever came to clean the room which obviously had NOT been cleaned or stocked after previous guest other than the bed made. It ruined what was suppose to be our first family vacation in years. We had intended to stay in the Flagstaff area a week but ended up going home after second night we were so hot, tired and plain miserable. Breakfast was disgusting. They simply did not & do not care.

« Quiet and Comfortable Stay. »

This is a quiet and great place to stay when in Flagstaff. It is close to the mall, university, Walmart and many family style restaurants. Far enough away from Highway 40 so you don't run into Pan Handlers. I first stayed in this hotel in 1978. It has been continuously upgraded since that time. The breakfast room is much larger than most hotels. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Two room, two bath suites are available and very comfortable. The indoor pool is nice and available year round despite the 7000 altitude.

    « Good Night's Stay »

We stayed here just 1 night on our way home to Las Vegas. They upgraded us to a double Queen from a Queen, which was nice - not to quibble, but if we booked into a room with 1 bed, why would we want 2 beds? The room was clean and quiet. We didn't take advantage of breakfast, since we left before the 6:30 start, but they had To Go bags at the desk for us, which was nice, and coffee, of course. Desk staff were helpful and got us into the room promptly and efficiently. Happy with our choice.

    « Okay »

Stayed one night on the way home in Route 66 from California to Tennessee. Older hotel that is in pretty good shape. Room was small but updated. Bathroom was really small with a sliding glass door separating it from the rest of the room. Beds were really soft. A little too soft. Had a/c set on 68 and still got warm. Staff was very friendly and professional. Breakfast was in separate building and was very roomy. Breakfast was good except for the biscuits. Stayed downstairs and could hear the people upstairs walking or jumping all night long. Not the best BW that I've stayed at.

    « Fantastic Stay! »

I love staying at the Best Western Pony Soldier. Everyone on staff- from front desk to housekeeping are phenomenal. Comfy beds, extremely clean, and lots of room! I will book again- I frequently travel for business, but stay here for pleasure as well.

« Not a good value for a hotel that looks old »

I stayed at several Best Westerns this past month, I paid double compared to the other BW. This hotel looks dated and my room looked like alot of repairs have been done. The tub was clogged which I reported to the staff. The staff is very courteous and friendly The breakfast was great.

    5
« Great Hotel, fantastic breakfast! »

The BW Pony Soldier is one of the best BW hotels I've enjoyed. Friendly, helpful staff, and a really terrific, high-quality, plentiful breakfast in a roomy building on the property. My only disappointment was the traffic on Rte 40 hinders a left turn onto the property. But it's doable.

    5
    « Good Experience »

I have used this hotel numerous times through the years. Our previous time the hotel was undergoing complete renovation. Even then, the staff were friendly and attentive to any needs we had. This last trip the renovations in the areas where we were had been completed and were very nice. The suite we were in was extremely comfortable with two bathrooms. The furnishings were tasteful and the bed very comfortable.

    « Flagstaff Trip »

I very much enjoy staying at this property. The Internet is fast and free. The breakfast seems to improve every time I stay and is a real breakfast with both continental breakfast items and items such as bacon and eggs. The property has recently been renovated. The rooms have coffee makers and free coffee and water. The hotel has a pool and hot tub and the hotel provides free newspapers.

« Nice hotel, not sure what it's name is referencing »

Stayed here to visit Grand Canyon next day. It was worth driving a bit to get the lower room rate. Room was comfortable and had modern decor. Bring a power strip though, not many spare outlets to be found in the rooms. Quality of beds was good and everything was very clean.

    5
    « Amazing! »

I was traveling with my mom, grandpa, and our two dogs, one of which is a puppy. Grandpa needed a wheelchair accessible room, which they provided. It was very large room with two bathrooms. The staff as very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent, thanks to one of the staff, Santana. Along with the other worker, they kept the food or and full text entire time. I've been on the road traveling since early June and this was by far the best place I stayed.

    « My experience »

We like visiting you guys when we are in Flagstaff. My son loves the pool and the breakfast. Many times we have stayed with you in the past year. We were on the road and didn't have a place to stay. So I called my wife , who was at home and she booked a room over the phone for me and my son. They had a room so we were able to stay with you guys. For breakfast at the time you had a waffle maker. My son loved that experience. So we went out and bought a waffle maker. So this last time we stayed with you you didn't have the waffle maker, you had the pancake maker. Well my son loved that too.

    5
    « Excellent Stay! »

This hotel is completely remodeled inside and it feels brand new. The rooms are large, attractive, modern, and extremely comfortable. The beds were so comfortable, it was hard to get up! Their breakfast is one of the nicest I've seen - everything you could possibly want - eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, pan roasted potatoes, fresh cooked oatmeal (not dry packets), a variety of fresh cut fruit, a pancake machine, and they even have almond and soy milk in addition to all the regular offerings. Also, delicious breads and pastries. I appreciated lots of small, careful touches that really add up: a new mini fridge in the room, plush towels, lovely bedding, and even the extensive offerings in the vending machines make this our go-to home away from home every time we go to Flagstaff!

    « Better Than I Expected »

Checked in for 2 nights while traveling Route 66. Staff was nice, breakfast was okay (about 3 out of 5), great pet area with grass and even a little fire hydrant. Bed was comfortable, room was out of date but clean. It was easy to find and parking near our room was convenient. Internet was very slow. Overall it could use some updating but was comfortable.

    5
    « A Fagstaff Gem »

Traveling with a rescue dog from Dallas to CA stopped at this "pet friendly" Inn and we were VERY impressed, Great area to take your pet, clean grounds and rooms. You can not miss the breakfast it is the best I have had in all my travels. Do not miss this Inn if a stay in Flagstaff is in your travel plans.

    3
« Not too impressed with rooms »

This hotel has a very good location. There was very limited parking and the rooms were just okay. There is no elevator here so make sure you pre-plan for that. The carpet in the room was very thin and it actually hurt my feet to walk on. Looks like they recently remodeled the rooms but it looks rushed and there was a lot of things still wrong. The room was noisy as the walls were thin but the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was very good and well stocked. Breakfast staff was very friendly, can't say the same about the front desk staff.

« Best Western Flagstaff ? Another Brilliant Link in the Chain »

The Pony Soldier Inn is near perfect in terms of service, comfort and economy. It is very popular with families. Everything is spotlessly clean and staff members are unfailingly friendly and helpful. I have stayed at several Best Westerns and find there is a high standard of hospitality in all their hotels. Here at Flagstaff you have a nourishing breakfast included in the room rate, free Wifi, a pool, a business centre, daily newspapers available and free coffee and water in the lobby around the clock. My room had two bathrooms and all the facilities a guest might need (iron, ironing board, hair dryer, microwave oven & coffee-making kit). The Pony Inn is well located: on Historic Route 66, about ten minutes' drive from downtown, with stores (eg. Walgreens) close by. There is also a good restaurant five minutes' walk away ? a traditional 1930's highway café with excellent food at competitive prices. My only suggested improvement to the hotel is a shuttle bus to town.

    5
    « Very Good Hotel »

The room was clean, no smells, everything is up to date, the breakfast is good, they give you several selections to select from. The food locations are in good locations. The staff was very nice and the hotel is located in a good location.

    « Passing Through »

Cons: Wrong side of town b/c near RR tracks. Building is old, breakfast & pool n/ another building. 2-story's & no elevator. Bed pretty soft, no microwave, no fridge. Pros: Nice shower & towels. The best thing was we got 2/ walk 2/ one of our favorite Triple D places "Salsa Brave".

    4

good value for the money. No elevator, realize this is a older hotel that appears to been really taken care of and updated regularly. Very good breakfast selection, best I saw on this extended trip. Not close to downtown 4 miles to center of old town Flagstaff,

Had a great stay. Just starting out road trip will be staying at 7 different Best Westerns. All across the mid west and western states. Love the weather up in the pines. Smells so good. Enjoyed the breakfast, nice to not have to leave the hotel, just go downstairs.

    « a comfy room... »

if your looking for a comfortable clean room, helpful staff, and a reasonable price, this is the place. situated in a prime location; surrounded by places to eat, car care and a quiet area makes this Best Western perfect. and the complimentary breakfast is very satisfying before getting back on the road...

    « Best Hotel »

The Best Western Pony Soldier Inn in Flagstaff AZ was the best place to stay. The staff were welcoming and very down to earth nice. The hotel recently completed a remodel, we stay here a lot!!!! We got the best nights sleep. The reclining chair was so comfortable. The pool was awesome and our room had easy access to the pool and breakfast area. We will definitely come back soon!!!!

« Great deal for the money! »

Great staff, full hot breakfast, quiet rooms; This is also within walking and/or uber distance of local fun spots to visit! Highly suggest it for a family vacation. We registered from our car via phone and checked in ten minutes later without any problems.

« Good price. great breakfast. Welcoming staff »

Nice hotel for the price. Beds are comfortable. Only issue is at sunrise the curtains are not very dark and sun blasts thru the window. This was also a great location if you have a tour pickup for the Grand Canyon.

    5
    « Perfect for us-three times! »

The Pony Soldier Inn in Flagstaff has been great for us 3 times! In 2014 we used it as an over night after the Grand Canyon on our way to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. We returned there that evening and prepared for our return. Great location for us, convenient highway access. This year it was our first (of 13) overnights on an extended vacation. Clean, friendly and comfortable for us! Yes, we would return and we would reccomend!

    5
    « One of Flagstaff's Best Hotels »

Overall, this hotel was nearly perfect - clean, nice staff, and nicely appointed rooms. I didn't have a reservation, and they were quite busy, but managed to find me a very nice room, shich didn't require my attempting to go up a flight of stairs (I recently had back surgery). Their free hot breakfast was one of the best I've ever found at a hotel! I would definitely stay here again!

    5
« Great stay, good breakfast! »

As we've come to expect, our stay at this Best Western was great. The rooms were clean, the beds very comfortable. Our suite had two full bathrooms, so our daughters had their own - no fighting for the bathroom with three other people. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.

« Older Property but Updated, Well-maintained; Outstanding Staff »

Property is older but shows extensive renovation and updating efforts. Staff was outstanding in every interaction. Very nice pool/spa area in separate building just 100 feet or less from main building; breakfast served in adjacent building (perhaps a former restaurant). Very good breakfast selections including real scrambled eggs, meat (sausage links one day, bacon the next), bread, bagels, pancake maker, all cold breakfast options. We were in one of the smallest rooms available, yet it was big enough for the 2 of us and had definitely been updated and well-maintained. Good location.

    « Great stay »

This is the best "Best Western" in the chain. The employees were extremely helpful , the place was very clean. And the breakfast is by far better than any other Best Western I've been to. I stay at le 30nights a year.

    4
    « Delicious Complimentary Breakfast »

This hotel is well located just off I-40. Parking is ok but not spacious. The room we were given was quite large and everything worked well. We could not find an elevator but since there are only two levels this was not an issue. The carpet on the stairs, in the hallways and in the rooms needs to be updated. The employees were very polite and friendly. The breakfast room is large with plenty of seating. It only got crowded when members of a bus tour group came in. Being near the Grand Canyon makes Flagstaff a major tourist destination. The breakfast itself was outstanding with many hot items, even the coffee was good enough for two cups.

    3
    « Route 66 »

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst completing Route 66 Stayed in the suite which was a lovely size sleeps 6 but only 1 bathroom ! Room was clean and tidy but the stairwells were quite dirty and the carpet was worn Front desk were very helpful and efficient There is no restroom or bar in this hotel, if you need to use a restroom you gave to go up to your room- not even one in the pool area The pool is indoors and long and narrow we were the only ones in playing ball with the kids nice enough The breakfast is fine and plentiful Hotel is a short drive to downtown and the downtown area is beautiful full of bars, restaurants, ice cream parlours and shops There is a mall around 5 miles in the other direction The hotel is right on a busy freeway and station The road noise is acceptable but the trains, oh my they are do very noisy and the beep their hooter even at 3am!

    « Average »

The rooms were OK, they were clean. The employees at the front desk were very nice and pleasant. The only complaint is the "free wi-fi" was HORRIBLE! It kept disconnecting us, it wouldn't stay connected! The free breakfast was great.

    5
    « Couldn't be happier »

We are very happy to have stopped here for two nights. The room is clean, comfortable, and spacious with a good size refrigerator. There is a heated pool and the service is good. The highlight would have to be the continental breakfast - it has everything. We were extremely impressed with the selection and quality of the food which included soy and almond milk. Would absolutely recommend this hotel and stay here again!

    3
    « TINY »

The room we stayed in was about half the size of a regular hotel room. Barely room to move. The railroad across the street was very busy, no washer / dryer for guest use, and slow wi-fi. The hotel was clean and they do have a large breakfast room with a good variety.

    4
    « Good experience »

    « Great Stay »

Although the facility is older, BW has done its very best to upgrade, restore and rearrange the physical facility. Special strength here is the staff. Wonderful to interact with them. Great experience to interact with Native Americans. Special compliments to breakfast room and breakfast staff. Good food, beautifully presented and maintained. Spacious room, attractive arrangement, attentive staff. Passing trains add to the "Flagstaff experience."

    5
« Nice staff and property »

I pulled in there for just one night in the midst of a cross-country trip on business. There was plenty of space to park my trailer (though that might not always be the case). The staff was courteous and professional. The room was clean and comfortable, though a little small for a double. And, as I've come to expect from Best Western a great value. I've almost always had very good experiences with their properties all over the West.

    « Great stay »

What a great hotel. Our room was amazing it had two bathrooms in the room (his and hers). Couldn't ask for more. This BW had one of the best breakfast ever had at a hotel. The rooms were clean and everything was in order.

    2
« Right Next to the Railroad »

The room is clean and smells fresh. The staff is pleasant. BUT . . . The hotel is right across the street from the main railroad track. Trains come through every 20-40 minutes all day and ALL NIGHT. If you stay here, because the price is fair, wear ear plugs, that will help somewhat. Next time we will choose another hotel in the center of town.

    5
    « Great mid-level motel »

My husband and I stayed here for Memorial Day weekend recently. The hotel is quiet, clean, and our room was spacious. We were on the second floor and, at check-in, the staff offered to help us with our luggage and heavy cooler, which we really appreciated. There are no microwaves in the room, but there is one in the lobby area, along with tables to sit at. We had brought food that needed to be heated and this alternative worked well, plus we didn't have food smells in our room after we ate. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.

    4
    « Good Central Location »

The Motel was suprising quiet as it is next to a main road and the railroad with trains going past at regular intervals. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was included in the price and it wasn't bad. There are plenty of restaurants nearby if required

    2
    « Very noisy »

We thought the elephants in the room above us were coming through the ceiling-very noisy! At 2am we were awakened by horrible foot prints over our heads, people dropping things on the floor above us and loud door slamming. I've stayed in hotels throughout many trips and have not heard neighbors like this. Do not recommend.

    5
    « Well kept hotel »

Well kept hotel. Pleasant stay, good breakfast, clean rooms. Staff was friendly. A pleasant surprise on Route 66 in Flagstaff. Would stay there again when travelling through Flagstaff. Much nicer than the other hotels in the area

    5
    « Recent stay »

Very clean and comfortable, rooms have been upgraded with all new furnishings. The breakfast buffet is served in a large well appointed dining room with plenty of choices that are very good. Easy access to I-40 and Grand Canyon. Outside shopping and restruants are not within walking distance, must use your auto. Overall a great place to stay overnight or longer.

« Even better than Excellent! »

The work station was located in a corner the living room area. So, it was very convenient. Not in the way, as in many other hotels. The electrical/computer outlets were located on the desktop, so it was not necessary for my elderly self to climb around trying to find an outlet. The bed was very comfortable, too. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at the Pony Soldier Best Western. Thanks!

    2
    « Disappointed »

Room entrance way is narrow opening into an area just wide enough to accommodate the door to our room and the next room. Small, compact bathroom with very little room between the toilet and shower and a short vanity area around the sink. Soap dish was extremely smooth which created a very good seal between it and a wet bar of soap. Very difficult to pry up the next time using the soap. No elevator. Cramped parking area. Plastic keys had to be reactivated every day causing an extra trip to the lobby after a tiring day. "Computer problems". Nightly serenading from the trains on the tracks across the street. And not just once a night. Busy tracks. Another motel in a different area of town has a sign that says "No train noise here". Would definitely consider that motel next time in Flagstaff. Can't recommend the "Pony".

    4
« Better than last time »

I decided to give the property another try even though my last visit (as described in a prior review) was less than excellent. Best Western is rebranding and the rate was good so I decided to give it a shot. I am happy to report that even though the facility is the same, the exceptionally heavy air freshener smell was significantly better. Additionally, there were no pets in the breakfast area. The front desk staff and the breakfast attendant were outgoing and friendly with wide smiles and "how can I help you" attitudes. Food on the breakfast buffet was fresh. While the property itself is still old, the room we were in was updated and aesthetically pleasing, albeit small. Too bad they don't offer king rooms that aren't king suites (which are much more expensive). To avoid road and railroad noise request a room near the rear of the property which is farthest from route 66 and the railroad that parallels it.

    « Excellent, Pet-Friendly Hotel »

We very much like to stay at this hotel, mostly because it allows us to stay in comfort with our small dog who travels with us. There is a small grassy section for walking the dog and the room has a tile floor so that spills are easily cleaned up. Plus, the breakfast is excellent.

    4
    « Good but a little tired. »

Good reception and friendly staff.Given a room next to the road and railway which didn't bother me too much but may well annoy others as the trains run regularly all night.Good breakfast and nice pool.Could do with a makeover especially in the common areas.

    « Old , Tired, Best Western »

Booked this room based on Trip Advisor Reviews. Disappointed that it is an old / semi run down / needs remodeling hotel. Rooms are very small and furnishing look as if they are 40 years old. Staff is nice, but would not recommend.

    4
« Clean, Comfortable and Convenient »

The BW Pony Soldier Inn & Suites provided a very comfortable and enjoyable night's stay. Again: Clean--Comfortable--Convenient !! Its location on Route 66 and blocks from I-40 and US 89 make it a very convenient location for any travelers heading in any direction. Our recent visit was our first time and we will seriously consider staying again as we travel between Montana and Southern Arizona. The guest service associates were very welcoming and sincere in their comments as to our being with them and that we would have a safe and uneventful balance of our trip back to Montana.

    5
    « Easy to recommend »

This was our first stay at this BW motel. The entire facility and the room were particularly clean. It was nice having a Mexican restaurant on-site. We get there shortly before they closed. The food was good, staff took care of us. Didn't need more than that. I was very tired and melted into the bed. Very comfortable. The fellow managing the breakfast area did a particularly good job. Food was delicious. Assortment was very good.

« Fabulous Bargain and Wonderful Hotel »

We recently stayed at the Best Western in Flagstaff during Graduation weekend. We were amazed that we were even able to get a room seeing as we had waited so late to book. I expected the rooms to be pricey no matter where we stayed but I could not believe the markups at some hotels in the area. Although this one was slightly marked up as well it was reasonable enough that we stayed there for two days. I was a little nervous at first because the outside of the hotel looked a little old but once we walked in we noticed that it was very updated inside. The rooms were very nice and comfortable and very well updated. They were nice enough to upgrade us to a king suite at no extra charge! We didn't have the free breakfast the first day we stayed there because we wanted to go to one of our favorite breakfast places. But on the second day we decided to check it out. Normally I don't expect much from the "free breakfasts" at hotels because I've seen the sad fruit and little boxes of cereal multiple times. The Best Western however, amazed us with their delicious breakfast! There were so many choices; bacon, eggs, potatoes, cereal, muffins etc! All in all our stay was very nice and we would definitely stay here again!

« Excellent place to stay. »

    « Best Stay EVER »

Courteous, professional, experienced staff that were extremely helpful and knew all the activities in the area. Wonderfully clean, comfortable, and excellent views!!! The area of location was close to Grand Canyon and Sedona without traffic delay/issues. Wonderful atmosphere!

    « Nice hotel A bit expensive »

Seemed a bit expensive at first when compared to Albuquerque but the whole town seems a bit expensive It seemed right in line with other prices in town The staff recommended an Italian restaurant "right next door" (MAMA LUISA) and we at first thought it wouldn't be so special because the neighborhood was nothing upscale but the restaurant did really turn out to be very nice The hotel pool was a nice extra

    3
« Nice staff, but tired facility »

We stayed here overnight recently, and it was ok. They are dog-friendly, which is a plus, and the staff was very hospitable. The free wifi worked fine, and the room itself was spacious enough. At about $100, including breakfast, the value was reasonable. We did get placed on the second floor, and because we had a fair amount of luggage, it was a disappointment to learn that there were no elevators. Oh well, we needed the exercise at 7,000' of elevation! The bathroom was tiny, and included both the commode and the shower, and we hated it when the loud noisy fan came on automatically when the light was turned on. Breakfast was so-so: fake scrambled eggs, only paper and plastic plates and utensils. When we stayed at the BW in Kingman the next night, their breakfast was much better. Again, the staff was very friendly, which we appreciated, but not sure we'd stay here again, especially if we had to stay on the second floor (see also review of guest who suggested second floor is dangerous from a fire-safety perspective).

We have stayed here 4-5 times over the past several years and always enjoyed our stay. Very nice property, nice size rooms, well equipped and comfortable. Good access with the highway. Very good breakfast. Friendly desk staff. Very good Italian restaurant just around the corner.

« Cheerful welcome at end of long drive »

We were exhausted and ready to drop. The front desk clerk started out stay with pleasant smiles and cheerful greetings. The room was clean and inviting and the bed comfortable. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

« Dont miss the breakfast! »

This hotel cares about making their guests comfortable, From nicely appointed rooms to free wifi to an excellent breakfast. The hotel is aging but is kept clean. If your room is on the second floor keep in mind that it is walk up only, no elevator. However, the front desk offered to assist us if needed with our items. Hot tub and heated inside pool make for a relaxing end of a long road trip. It bears repeating that the breakfast is fantastic with a large variety of hot and cold offerings. AAA discount is offered here as well as Military. Thank you!

    « Remodeled and Redecorated »

This hotel has been remodeled and redecorated recently. For a low middle priced property it is the best bargain in Flagstaff. The room they use for the free breakfast has been remodeled and has plenty of space for breakfast. The food is good and they have a large variety including fruit, bagels, cereal, eggs, potatoes, meat (sausage or bacon depending on the day) and fruit juices. The only below average offering is the waffles which are premade and not very good. They should buy a wafflemaker so that guests can make them fresh, The rooms have been redecorated in the past month with new furniture which is nicer than the old stuff. Dark wood and better lighting. Lots of outlets for plugging in cell phones, laptops and other things that need charging. Free WiFi which actually works pretty good. The indoor pool and hot tub have also been remodeled. I usually stay here when I am in Flagstaff. For the price there is not a better place to stay in Flagstaff.

Easy no hassle stay. Great after a long day on the road. Places to eat nearby. They also offer a list of restaurant's that will deliver to your room which was very welcome as we were on the road all day.Very helpful staff.

    « Sort of noisy. »

The walls and ceilings are sorta thin? Could hear upstairs foot traffic and the kids playing in the hallway. The highway and busy train tracks are across from the main entrance and adds to the overall noise pollution. The desk staff was friendly and helpful. The king size bed was weird. It had two valleys and a hump in the middle of the bed. The small pillows and the mattress made for an average nights sleep. Breakfast was ok except for the wet microwaved eggs. Do NOT chose BW based on their rewards programs. We stayed and met the requirements for the $25 dollar discount, only to learn we will get a gift card or something sometime and we get back from vacation. We will probably need to stay at a motel in the next 3 months so the $25 dollar incentive will not benefit us at all. Probably ok/intended for business travelers?

    « A real Death Trap »

I will break this review up into two parts #1 the Motel as a place to stay, #2 the motel as a death trap. So #1 good clean place, friendly service, beds were good, breakfast was good. They have an indoor pool and spa which I did not use but it looked well maintained. The room was a bit strange. The door to the bathroom was a slider with a track on the floor that could cause you some pain in a stubbed toe in the middle of the night. The bathroom slider itself was of a glazed plastic so when the door is closed all the light came through the door into the main room. Not a very good thing at night when one is trying to sleep. This was not an issue for me since I was solo, but for that reason alone I would not stay here if I was with someone else. Further their was no door between the bathroom and sink. Next the closet looked like an after thought as the hangers stick out into the bathroom entrance. The room door itself did not seal into the frame so light came through all the way around the door from the hallway outside. Wifi was very slow as the evening wore on, obviously they do not have enough bandwith. I finally had to give up is was so slow. Part #2. If there is a fire in this motel and you are on the second floor you will probably die. All rooms open to a center hallway. There is no central fire detection alarms, only smoke detectors in the rooms. There are no fire doors throughout the facility, in case of fire smoke will travel throughout the building. The second floor is wide open from the first which will allow smoke to rise into the second floor quickly. As stated above the door to the room does not seal into the door frame which in the case of fire would allow smoke into your room. Generally in a fire smoke is what will kill you. Their are no centralized warning systems to alert you if a fire is in the building, no smoke enclosures to suppress smoke travel, and no fire sprinklers to stop a fire. The windows would be hard to get out off. If you are on the second floor the fire would be well advanced along with the smoke and your chance of survival on the second floor would very low. If you stay here make sure your room is on the first floor.

    « Great Stay »

The hotel is an old but very clean and comfortable. The beds were comfortable with great beds for a good night sleep. The front desk staff in outstanding. The breakfast is great with a large variety of items to please everyone. Great coffee.

    « They really tried - but "you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear" »

It appears the place was built a long time ago, and efforts were made to make some rooms ADA-compliant. But support beams holding up the second story made the toilet area both cramped and too close to the shower. On the plus side, the soap dispenser on the wall of the shower is at a correct height for someone who is seated - which we usually DON'T see. The desk person was very, very helpful. The breakfast room - in an adjacent building - was spacious and well stocked.

    2
    « Disappointment. »

Staff was rude. Tiny room. Nicotine stained curtains. A bed that when you sit on it you feel as if you're going to roll right off the side of it. No elevator for the second floor. Carry-all luggage up and down stairs. Hotel in serious need of a makeover. Incredibly small bathrooms

    5
    « Good choice »

We were very happy with this hotel choice when coming to visit the Grand Canyon/Flagstaff area. We got a free upgrade upon arrival from being an Executive Rewards Member. Very clean room and bathroom. They tried to accommodate people with food sensitivities for breakfast which I have never seen done at any Best Western before. They had almond and soy milk and also gluten free Cheerios. The pre-made oatmeal had 6 toppings available including frozen blueberries and cinnamon.

    2
    « Not BW quality »

This place was a disappointment. the location, the beds were uncomfortable, rooms outdated, I would have not stayed after seeing the place but would not have gotten a refund. I stay at BW and the quality was not there for this place.

    4
    « Great Breakfast »

The room was okay, the bathroom was small and a bit dated but the beds were quite comfortable. The heated, covered pool was small and the plaster was a bit chipped, but nice and warm in the cold weather. Had to make a run for it to the door from the pool house which was freezing. We came back to the hotel late at night and could not find a parking spot, there were several trailors parked sideways taking up 4-6 spots a piece. We finally had to squeeze in next to the dumpster, the dumpster its self was also taking up about 5 spots. The best part was the breakfast, so much variety and was very tasty.

« Best Western Pony Soldier »

I have stayed here in the past and the experience has always been gooe. Great staff, great rooms. The breakfast is the same as the rest of the Best Westerns I have stayed at. Food was good and plentiful with a lot of variety.

    « A pleasant stay in Flagstaff »

For our visit to Grand Canyon next day earlier morning, we decided to stay at BW the previous evening night. It was a pleasant stay. Beds were comfortable and we slept well. The breakfast was quite good and had a good spread. If we are passing by again ever, will definitely stay here.

    4
« Good Stay Friendly Staff »

Hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. Location was great close to many good restaurants. Nice pool and breakfast area which is adjacent to the hotel. Would stay again, thanks for the great stay. Michellle

    « Awesome stay »

We located this hotel via TripAdvisor. We called the hotel and were directed to it. It was around 10pm when we finally checked in. The person at the reception area was very cheerful and made every effort to get us checked in quickly. She also offered to register us for the rewards so that we could get $25 voucher after a couple of stays at BW. Breakfast was included. The breakfast selection was elaborate and the staff made sure to stock it and to clean tables as guests left. We would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

    « Very Pleasant Stay »

This was a very pleasant motel and the staff was very helpful. It encompasses all the qualities I look for in a Best Western and is the reason I stay with them most of the time. The Pony Soldier Inn was close to many restaurants and shopping centers.

    3
    « It's An Option »

We stayed at the Poly Soldier Inn for three nights and it was fine. Not a glowing recommendation but neither was it a bad decision. The staff and the breakfasts really made this place work, for us. Pros: - Friendly staff - Great breakfast bar (waffles, eggs, sausage, potatoes, oatmeal, toast, muffins, danishes, coffee, assorted juices, milk) - Conveniently off the freeway - Newly renovated (all renovations should be completed by May 15) - Clean rooms - Comfortable beds Cons: - Rail traffic (trains) day and night - Very thin walls - Generally, an older facility - No closet space (our room had a hanger bar in the bathroom) - No elevator for upper floor The Pony Soldier Inn was our central hub after leaving the Grand Canyon. From Flagstaff, we visited the Petrified Forest, Winona, and Sedona. The hub idea worked well for us. And as I mentioned, the renovations should be completed in a couple of weeks.

    4
« Good for an older facility »

You definitely have to deal with the trains going by every night, but it's part of the 'charm' of following the old 66 route. Normally I turn on the fan to blot out noise, but this one was so loud it was worse than the train noise. I'd say the AC/heat unit sorely needs some updating. Otherwise, the room wasn't bad, though quite outdated. Can't really speak to value since I used up a free night on this stop.

    2
« Not Best Western standard »

We were aware that the Pony Soldier was near the railway but not that the trains ran all night and sounded as if they were coming through the room! The room itself was very small, as was the double bed. There was no lamp on the table on one side of the bed and the bathroom was minute, better suited for a child's Wendy House than an average adult. There was barely enough space to put the bath mat down on the floor. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was very good. If you were in one of the larger suites at the back of the building you would probably have a better stay. However, this hotel needs to be completely updated and does not reach the standard of the other Best Western hotels we have stayed in.

    3
« Two Nights in Flagstaff »

Room was clean, staff was nice, the breakfast buffet was good. The hotel is right across Business I40 from the BNSF tracks. Trains run all day and night and not much sleep due to the noise of the trains. Read that there are 100 trains a day going through Flagstaff and 30 minutes was a long gap. Older facility but OK if you can stand the trains.

    5
    « Good nights sleep »

Great experience! Staff was friendly and professional; room was clean; bed was extremely comfortable. Complimentary breakfast was the best we have ever experienced at a hotel! Would highly recommend this hotel.

    5
« Friendly helpful staff with confortable bed! »

We came up to Flagstaff for an overnight stay & really enjoyed our night at the Best Western Pony Soldier Inn. We have stayed here in the past, & were happy to find that the bed was as comfortable as when we were here before. Great sleep & the temperature in the room was good. Their are a plethora of breakfast items to choose & we were happy with all.

    3
    « Average over all »

Good and poor about this place. See comments in prior questions. Price very high for how old the motel is. When checking in and got to room we didn't know when there were two bathrooms, one regular and other handicap. We called front desk and wife discovered the handicap bathroom. Grout was dirty and loose on the floor. Noisey room and could hear noises from other rooms, showers, toilets and talking in rooms and halls.

    4
« our stay @ Best Western Pony Soldier Inn »

This inn was easy to find & close to many restaurants which we needed when we arrived. The pool was outside but was open & our granddaughter still used. The staff was friendly. The railroad is across the road but we didn't hear it.

    5
    « Very helpful staff. »

The young lady at the counter was extremely helpful. We got in late and were very tired and she went above and beyond helping us. She held the door open and even offered to carry our bags for us! The room was very large and accommodated 6 of us. The breakfast was in a separate building with the pool but that was nice because it was very spacious and one of the best breakfasts we saw while on vacation for 18 days in 15 different hotels! We would definitely stay again.

  • 5
    « Pleasant experience »

When you are tired and have been driving all day any hotel/motel would be ok but Best Western Pony Soldier Inn exceeded all expectations. Our room was great, the staff were very helpful, professional and friendly and the breakfast was exceptional. All of our needs were satisfied.

    3
    « Not great »

Breakfast & parking were the best features of this hotel. The 2nd floor room was barely bigger than a closet & had no fridge nor microwave. Steep steep steep stairs to the 2nd floor & no elevator had my puppy mortified every time he had to come down them, going up wasn't as big of a deal but coming down was terrifying.

    3
    « Just OK »

We were upgraded to 2 queen beds, which was nice. However, the entire hotel needs a lot of upgrading. There were very few electrical outlets and the outlets attached to the lamp did not work. The bath/shower needs upgrading. It was difficult to manage the hot and cold handles... Wobbly! The carpeting on the stairs and hallways need upgrading. Otherwise, the beds were fine and the room was neat and clean. We were close to the railroad tracks but the passing trains did not ruin our sleep. Breakfast was good.

    5
    « Great Stay »

The staff and rooms at this hotel was great. I loved the suite with the two bathrooms. After being on motorcycles all day we got in late in the evening and the staff was prepared with having our rooms ready! We only stayed one night but would have stayed more if we needed to! I will definitely stay there again!

« Great Hotel! Even with a little age »

My family of 4 stayed in this hotel over Spring Break 2016. We stayed in the family suite which was 2 bedrooms ( 2 queen, 1 king) 1 bath and living area. This room was great!! and just what I was looking for. Plenty of room. Room décor looked like it had recently been updated! Even thou this hotel is a little older, it was great and clean and a great price. The Breakfast was great. Hot food as well as cold! My only complaint was the family suit is located on the front of the hotel, the train is right across the street, and went by several times thru the night! but nothing one can do about that other than not stay in the family suite :) Bring ear plugs.

    5
« Great place to stay! »

This was a wonderful stay. The people were nice. The rooms were very roomy. The breakfast was great. The bathrooms were a little small. The hallways a bit reminiscent of an old travel motel; a bit dark. Dogs were allowed and several were barking early in the morning. The pool and hot tub were across the parking lot and through a gate.

    3
    « So so »

Rooms and hallways were just ok. They were a bit run down. Breakfast was nice and clean and well stocked with different teas and coffee creamers. It worked for a quick night stopover for the price on the way to grand Canyon.

    5
« Just right for us »

We had stayed at this location before, so we knew that there were train tracks nearby, but we also remembered that we never heard them when we were in our room. The room was perfectly quiet! Everyone was nice & helpful, and the mountains were lovely. Extra perk was that there is a fantastic Italian restaurant called Mamma Luisa's, in the mall next door! Stay here just to have dinner at Mamma Luisa's!

    3
    « Not the Ritz »

Don't expect the Ritz but then you are not paying for the Ritz. We had a king bed suite. Room was large and had two bathrooms. The bed was very comfortable. The couch, not so much. This is obviously an older hotel. Doors are very narrow and bathrooms very small but the sink area has nice counter space. Room was very clean and staff very friendly. The breakfast was above the usual complimentary breakfast. There are several restaurants within walking distance.

    1
« This hotel is a minus, not a plus »

When I booked the reservation, I searched for Best Western Plus hotels only. I thought that this would give me the same quality as other Plus hotels I have stayed at in the past. The only plus this hotel has is that you get to hear a barrage of trains all night long, so you will HAVE to wear ear plugs. The hotel should actually be listed as a minus, because the standard room is at least half the size of other Best Western room (and I have stayed at many in various cities). Also the hotel is listed as being upgraded or remodeled, however it looks like if it was done, it was done in the 80's.

  • 2
« Only stay if no other choice »

The hotel rooms looked like a low grade Motel 6. No elevator was available for the upstairs rooms. The only nicer thing was the breakfast area that was located in a separate building on the property. I would only stay here again for a night if there was no other choice available.

    5
    « wonderfull stay »

great value suite was spacious , and clean. We had 2 grandsons with us age 7 &11 . This two room suite was ideal. Two tv, two, bath rooms . And a clean indoor pool We were very close to restaurants, mall and the freeway

    « the best Best Western ? »

I believe this is the best Inn ,considering price and comfort that I have ever stayed in. I trust Best Western in general and know other very good ones. This Inn has it all together. They even have the towels and considering that all Best Westerns use ( I believe) the same supplier that is of note.

« Hotel For Grand Canyon and Museum Bar »

This is decently priced hotel for visiting Grand Canyon and Museum Bar 66 on road 66. Hotel knows its customers and therefore, they have an excellent breakfast which is really designed for tourist who want to visit Grand Canyon. This hotel does not locate in Canyon, but it is cheapest near by. What is even more nicer, the world famous Museum Bar 66 is just round a corner, Museum Bar started at 1921 and it is in walking distance.

« Stay here when ever I'm in Flagstaff »

This is our go-to motel when ever we're in Flag. The property is always well kept. Staff goes out of their way to ensure you have a good experience. The new breakfast room is WONDERFUL! They offer a full breakfast with an excellent selection off cold and hot items. The room is spacious and immaculate. Room are always clean and very comfortable. Even on Easter weekend with every room filled, we were well cared for. Highly recommend!

« BEST BW IN THE NATION...!!!! »

You will absolutely never ever find a better Best Western than this one! From the angel at the Front Desk -- Beverly -- to the warm and welcoming breakfast, this place is perfection. And that breakfast is a full breakfast, with everything from hot eggs and sausage to home-made biscuits to half-cut grapefruits. The room is massive, too, so no crowding your way through the morning. We had a suite with 2 bathrooms, which was a real treat. The TVs are giant and parking can be right outside your room if you plan it that way. All in all, what a pleasure to be here. No wonder they are always full, so book ahead -- and get ready for the best BW you'll ever find!

    4
    « A nice hotel/motel »

This is a typical US motel/hotel. its clean and comfortable. we were on the upper floor and I would always recommend an upper floor room to avoid the Buffalo crowd upstairs! they have a pool and jaccuzi as well its covered so was open but we did not have the time to try. Breakfast was well appointed with a good selection of foods on offer. The staff were as helpful as good be. I have a small gripe that travellers should be aware of and that is the trains. they run all night long and the melancholy wail of the train horn could be heard too. It runs in front of the hotel across the road, so pick a room as far away from the road as possible, I think even there it would be heard, it did not trouble me but may trouble some

    5
« Good Value in Flagstaff, AZ »

The King room had 2 bathrooms and a separate living room - much more for your $$$ than one would expect in this day and age! The front desk staff were all very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast is better than usual - and there were paper cups, plates and bowls instead of the poison styrofoam usually found at hotel buffet breakfasts in this range of hotels. That's a big plus for me!

    4
« Nice Motel in Flagstaff »

Stayed at the Pony Soldier for two night while visiting National Parks. The motel is aging, but well maintained, and convenient to downtown Flagstaff at a reasonable price. Decent free breakfast. Rooms are small but clean.

    2
    « Motel »

The room is clean but you can't expect much. It's motel you can't blame it. The stuff is out dated and the door that you walk into on the side of the motel the lock is broken so you could have a random person walk in and attack you. It is fine for just passing threw but very cheap 100 a night as i'm use to Hyatts.

« up in the cool air »

This location, and we have stayed at over 18 locations on this trip, was very good with the exception of a couple of things... One is the smoking areas outside of the building. Staff says it is to be 25 feet away from the building, however smokers were in and around the door. We addressed staff but they can only do so much and once they left the people were right back smoking. There should be bigger signs and better enforcement. The kitchen breakfast area huge with lots of seating..however they did not fresh waffles, instead frozen]thawed and then toasted.. Trains run by accross the street but we heard none from our room and that was wonderful. Yes this is a good stay and use your GPS..

    4
    « Passing Through »

The room was great, considering I messed up on our reservations, but Genevieve was very helpful with setting us up with a rolling bed. The breakfast was great. I really enjoyed that they had hot foods (eggs, sausage, waffles) plus fruit, yogurt, juices instead of only breads and cereal. Only downfall was the pool/spa area. It is completely separate from the rooms. You have to walk across the parking lot to another building, which isn't fun when it's in the high 20's low 30's. Overall stay was good.

    5
« Nice place to stay. »

Nice place to stay, but on main street and close to railroad tracks though the noise was minimal. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and very complete. I reccomend !... Price seemed a bit high but depends on time of year....

    3
    « a bit disappointing... »

Check in was fast and efficient. Room was not like the Best Western we have been accustomed to. It was hidden in a sub-hallway, door did not appear to be sturdy or secure, room was small, noise carried from adjoining room and above, and the railroad tracks across the street. It is like the previous hotel met the most minimum standards to be called a Best Western. The included breakfast was fine, the selection of food items were more than adequate.

    5
« Pitstop In The Mountains »

So, we were coming in from the Four Corners area and were running late due to my wife taking pictures. Totally worth it by the way. Our plan was to drive into town by 6 that afternoon. We got held up in Monument Valley with all the picture taking and off road adventures. We called ahead to let the hotel know we were running late. The clerk was very nice and even told us the crib was all set. That was a bonus. We got in, got the kids dressed for bed and passed out. All in all, very nice.

    3
« Great Breakfast, Small & Old Rooms »

The breakfast was fantastic! The rooms are a little outdated and small. Furniture is old. Bed was OK but I think the mattress had already had its day and may need to be replaced. Bathroom was small and when you come out, you bump into the edge of the queen bed when you round the corner. Staff was very nice and pleasant. The young man in the breakfast room was quick to clean up and super busy. It would be nice if the breakfast area had a covered walkway to the separate building instead of having to step outside when it's cold.

    3
« Train noise but good breakfast »

This was an average hotel. We were surprised it was right next to the train tacks with frequent trains going by. Bathroom had a rolling plastic door that had seen better days. Breakfast was very good, but typical for Best Western. Beds were comfortable. Room was clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Ask for a bottom floor room furthest away from the tracks. No elevator and a flight of stairs if you are upstairs. Italian restaurant next door.

    2
    « Disappointing »

I expect more from Best Western. We like Best Western when we travel with the kids. It is nice to have a breakfast. The food was not very good. The eggs were powdered and poorly made and the sausage gravy was horrible. The entire hotel is dark and outdated. Rooms are small. The plus side, the staff was extremely friendly.

    3
« Average stay in an average hotel »

Standard Best Western hotel. Nothing special to rave about and nothing terrible to complain about. The route to our room on the second floor didn't have an elevator, so we had to carry our bags up. Not a big deal for us, but perhaps for people with lots of luggage or limited mobility. Another thing to note is Route 66 parallels the train tracks - so you may hear trains rumbling by if you are a light sleeper. They didn't bother me. The room and beds were clean. There is a frosted glass door on the bathroom, instead of a regular lockable door. OK for families, but maybe not if you're travelling with a cranky co-worker? The pool is in a separate building, and is quite small, but OK for pumping out a few lengths. The breakfast is also in a separate building, and is a great breakfast space. Lots of choices, hot and cold. Overall an average stay in Flagstaff, where there are lots of choices in the same price range.

    5
    « restful stay »

« Didn't care for the glass bathroom door. »

« Best Western Pony Soldier Inn & Suites, Flagstaff, AZ »

We always try to stay at Best Westerns since we are reward members....never have we been so dissatisfied with a BW until this recent trip. Needs major upgrades, noise level is terrible, laundry carts & trash cans repeatedly wheeled by our window in the early hours each morning, floors in the bathroom/sink area were filthy, twice received new towels that were still wet/damp and were told they purposely take them out of the dryers early so they're not so rough...would rather have a rough dry towel than a damp wet one! Front desk person upon check in was pleasant, however can't say the same for the one working when we checked out. Overall experience was very disappointing.

« Best Western Equals Best Value »

Comfortable big beds! Easily adjustable thermostat! Sink and dressing area thoughtfully separated from toilet and shower area. Fast internet access without a lot of ad interference. Newspaper delivered to the door in the a.m. Fabulous free breakfast in restaurant-like setting with decent healthy choices. Not fancy but a really excellent value for travelers. We had just been to a fancy resort in Sedona and slept better here. We had also stayed at a La Quinta in Scottsdale and the breakfast here was so much better.

    « Overcharged »

I went to this motel and stayed one night. I wasn't in a position to do some major research but find out they charged me $180 for 1 nite when the going rate was $100. I feel violated. I tried to dispute with my credit card but of course I lost. Pricey

« Poor Decoration Not Remodel »

Place looks like in the 80's. Most of my overnight stays are at Best Western and let me tell you, that this Flagstaff location does not come near the rest of the BW location I been too. It needs remodel from inside & out. I will NOT stay at this hotel again. Unless its updated

    « ? »

The important things that matter for me are: good service, good quality beds, full breakfast and neat and tidy rooms, this Inn had all of these. Because of the age of the hotel the decor may not appeal to some guests.

    « Excellent Stay »

In my 9 years as a Student Council Advisor and taking student groups to conventions, this was the best hotel experience I have had. They were extremely organized at check-in and were able to group our rooms together (that has never happened before). They were extremely helpful in meeting all of our needs during our stay. I highly recommend this hotel!

« Best Western in Flagstaff »

I thought the overall appearance of the rooms and lobby was great. Everything looked clean. There was a a couple negative things such as a large gap between the front door in the rooms. It was large enough that my phone could fit through it. So I put a pillow on the floor fearing that someone would look in. I loved the fact that they had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the bath tubs. That saved me because I forgot mine. Another upset was having to walk outside for the pool and breakfast area which were both in separate buildings. There was not much to chose from for breakfast either cereal, cold biscuits and gravy or instant eggs. It was a good hotel just not the right place for children who want to swim during February.

From my arrival to my departure I received VERY good service and staff was everything you want from a group of people operating a hotel!! I went to Flagstaff under duress,as my husband had to be hospitalized in Flagstaff while on a trip ,and the extremely helpful and kind staff eased my burden with their friendliness and caring attitude!! I WILL look to stay again when in Flagstaff!

    « Clean, Comfy, & Professional »

Comfortable beds and pillows ( I travel with my own as well). Breakfast very nice and the remodel is awesome. Something for everyone. The grounds - some snow- but the roads were easy to drive and no trace of snow. Spa & Pool covered, indoors. Overall a great property. If you are a light sleeper - I would bring ear plugs if you are sleeping in - there are trains that you can hear go by. Ask to stay farthest to the back as possible.

We have travelled all over the world for business and pleasure and we stay at a Best Western Motel or Hotel as often as we can. The stay in this Motel was close to if not the best experience we have had at a Best Western facility. Everybody was extremely friendly and helpful and the room was clean and extremely comfortably.

This hotel was average as Best Westerns go. the room showed signs of wear but all of that could be overlooked. I will not be staying here due to its proximity to the railroad tracks. The train woke me up just about every hour. This hotel might be tolerable if you get one of the rooms in the back of the hotel.

    « Stay and Ski »

Rooms were very clean and toiletries were excellent in quality. Continental breakfast was superior to a paying restaurant. Not a big fan of powdered eggs, but overall the variety of foods and beverages made up with the many other choices. We'll be a repeat Staycation visitor to this hotel especially since they are a participant with Snowbowl Ski Resort as a stay and ski package provider. Hot tub was a real treat after a long day of skiing!

    « (B+) rating »

Hotel is in a great location near shopping and restaurants in Flagstaff, Arizona. Although decor in the room was a little tired we were given an large double suite with two bathrooms. Breakfast room is expansive with lots of healthy choices. We are Best Western Loyalty Club members and booked this hotel in advance on line for a great price. Staff were very accommodating and although Flagstaff had received 30 inches of snow the week we arrived, they were punctual in ensuring parking lot and sidewalks were cleared of snow. They also loaned us a brush to remove snow from our vehicle. We would definitely consider staying at this hotel again during our cross country trek from Palm Desert, California to Kingston, Ontario Canada in May.

« Great Place to Stay in Flagstaff »

This hotel is about a 1.5 hour drive away from the Grand Canyon. We didn't get a chance to visit Flagstaff's town proper, but we enjoyed the stay at the hotel itself as it was affordable and not far from the Canyon, where we intended to go. Only thing: make sure you call ahead one or two days before in case you need to guarantee a room on the first floor if you're traveling with someone in a wheelchair, on crutches, or otherwise with some kind of mobility problem. This BW hotel unfortunately does not have an elevator. The stairs are carpeted and at least are inside the building; there are about 16 of them and my mother-in-law (who uses crutches) confirmed that they're not bad stairs if you need to get up them. However, it would have been easier if there was a lift.

Like the area however room was dirty and found a scorpion in our room on second day, informed the management, by the time someone got in our room, scorpion was already gone, asked them to spry the room before renting it again otherwise all was well.

« Good Hotel with perfect breakfast »

We were on our trip to Grand Canyon, and this was a perfect hotel to stay overnight to get to see Route 66 and Flagstaff. It was nice hotel, clean, and breakfast was exceptional, like true European hotel's breakfast. I personally did not expect this kind of breakfast in hotel of that price range. We liked that hotel had this map on a wall in the lobby, where guests can pin place from which they arrived. it was fun!

« Its good for a quick stay »

This place was alright I would stay again for a quick stay. Its outdated and you hear trains all night, also it's a very loud place you can hear everything in the rooms next to you and any kid that screams is loud in your room and you can hear everyone coming and going on the stairs. But it has good breakfast and is clean and the staff is nice. So if you can get past that you won't get much sleep or quiet it is a nice place to be to go see the sites or snow.

« Refuge From The Snow »

The staff could not have been nicer. Our trip to the Grand Canyon was interrupted by a snow storm. Although the motel was somewhat dated, the rooms were recently updated, very clean, comfortable, with excellent wi-fi. The breakfast lounge was large, very comfortable and well attended. The food selection, quantity and quality were very good. An asset which increases the value of the cost of the stay.

easy on/off I-40, great front desk staff, nice room but smallish, excellent hot breakfast, great dinner recommendation to Italian place nearby. had many lodging choices but this one was in a much better location, had better appearance and access. « Great price and good breakfast »

The room was clean and we had great wifi signal in our second story room. The front desk was quite helpful. The morning we woke up, it had snowed about 5 inches. The staff had pushed a paper under the door with numbers that would be helpful for making a trip in the snow, along with addresses of places to get tire chains and the option of a later checkout. The checkout was painless as well. Overall a great experience for an overnight stop.

    « Functional »

Small rooms, but clean and functional. Love the indoor spa - but the chlorine in the spa was a bit strong. I've stayed here a couple of times. It is a good value for Flagstaff, which tends to be expensive for what you get. This hotel is near the mall/discount shopping area and that is good for coming to town to do shopping.

    4
« Needs some security updates »

The hotel itself was clean. It did look a bit dated. I liked how the doors to the rooms were set back a bit from the hallway. I was impressed with the quality of breakfast items and the professionalism of the staff that was responsible for monitoring the breakfast. I would strongly recommend that some adequate security lighting be installed near the parking area. It was completely dark next to the hotel. Didn't feel safe walking from our car into the hotel.

« Worked out well for a Grand Canyon visit »

We chose Flagstaff so we could make day trips to the Grand Canyon. The hotel was quiet for the most part - we were there at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, and there was noise in the hallways in the early evenings, but none at night. For the price, we found it to be a good value. There's a Walgreen's drug store and a Starbucks nearby, so we were able to pick up things we needed and find coffee in the AM.

I drive all across northern Arizona for business, and this is best hotel experience I've had on Route 66! The staff goes above and beyond to take care of you. Great people, great location, great rates, and the free breakfast is great, too.

    « Pleasant & Pet Friendly »

Traveling with a new puppy across country, this facility was an excellent choice. Booked the hotel direct with Best Western and was provided all information up front from their agents. Staff was exceptional when I did a late check-in. Check-out was easy and again the staff was great.

Friendly and helpful staff. Hotel across the street from train line along Route 66. Get room at back of hotel property since trains go by all night. I even had my hearing aids out and heard the trains. Bed in room 205 needs replacing since it felt like you were falling into a hole in the middle of the queen bed,

« Clean Rooms, Great Breakfast »

We stayed here earlier this week. Our room though small was very clean. We were lucky enough to reserve our room using a Groupon reducing our room rate to $58 including tax. This made it a great value. They have a really nice full breakfast that includes eggs, bacon, biscuits, fruit, waffles, etc. in a large well organized breakfast room. We'll stay here again next time we spend the night in Flagstaff.

We stopped in flagstaff and stayed at the best western on our way to Pagosa Springs for thanksgiving. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. We had the family suite with 3 beds. We left before the breakfast. Would stay here again if I am passing through flagstaff.

« Would stay again -- and did »

We loved this hotel. Our expectations were low -- it isn't super modern looking, and our queen room was pretty small. It seemed like an "okay" place to crash while we were passing through town. But we ended up loving it here. The room was so cozy, and we slept great. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was fantastic! The only problem was that the train tracks are close by, and while it is a "no horn" area, we could still hear them. When we woke up, there was 5 inches of snow in the ground. The hotel staff allowed everyone a delayed check-out and provided phone numbers and locations for traveling in the snow (taxis, gas stations, place for snow chains, etc.) It was so thoughtful and kind of them to do that. They are definitely in the hospitality business. We did check out, and what do you know... we got caught in the snow. So we decided to turn around and get another room. This time our room was in the back, and we never heard a single train. Which made our good experience that much better. They also do a good job with their pet policy. I thought I did hear a bark once, but only once (and I wasn't even sure). The walls must be thick enough to keep the noise down. I do have pet dander allergies, and I never noticed a thing. It seems they do a very good job keeping pet odors out. We booked through Groupon and paid $53 for a queen room. We thought it was a fantastic value.

    « Visit to Flagstaff »

We like Best Western, and this one, had a very good price, plus a heated Inside pool with hot tub, very nice in cold Flagstaff. Other than that it met our expectations for a Best Western and had a very large dining room for breakfast which was nice.

    « Love It!!! »

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Arrived a few minutes earlier and was able to check-in. The lady who attended us was really nice and informative, since it was our first time in Arizona. I loved every single thing about our stay there. Clean, location, the service...etc. The breakfast part was AWESOME, all you can eat not just coffee with muffins. My boys loved it. I love BEST WESTERN HOTELS. Planning our next trip.....

    « My first 'dog friendy'hotel experience. »

We chose this hotel because we could take our dog with us. This was the first time we have ever traveled with a pet, so I am not sure if other dog-friendly facilities have the same issues. As mentioned by other reviewers, the facility is old and the rooms are small. The pictures provided by management are overly optimistic- they have managed to make the hotel look much larger than it actually is. The entire room had a weird smell; it could very likely be because of the cleaners they use with dogs staying there. The pet area outdoors was more than adequate but had a lot of dog poop in it and since leaves were falling it made walking through it interesting. The chairs and table were dirty and awkwardly-placed. The bathroom was very small, with the sink outside the door. The room just seemed grungy. The one exception (thank goodness) was the bed. It was very comfortable, the bedding was very fresh and clean, and the pillows were plentiful and also very fresh and clean. The bed saved the experience for us. My 'average' sleep rating was due to all the noise from the people around us (you hear everything on either side and above you unfortunately) not the quality of the beds. Although they roll around easily, which I think may be because they need to be able to reach everything to clean because of possible pet accidents. We had no interactions with staff. The internet worked well while we were there, although we had to read the fine print and log in with the IP address as the regular browser wouldn't open. There were instructions for doing that on the wifi card in the room, so apparently it is a common issue. I disagree with many reviewers regarding the quality of breakfast. Putting it in a bigger room doesn't make it that much better. Don't get me wrong; it was a fine breakfast, just not anything special. Same old powdered eggs, pan of meat, pan of (soggy) potatoes, various cereals, fruit, etc. They did serve gravy each day, which made the eggs better. The room was large, so seating was never an issue, but they ran out of coffee both days we were there. The staff did replace it promptly when it was brought to their attention. We were charged $20 additional per night due to our dog. I thought that was a little excessive. She stays in a kennel and didn't make a single mess other than fur perhaps which is certainly a lot less mess than my kids used to make :) I had a hard time tipping the housekeeping staff when I was already overpaying for comparable hotels just to keep a dog and then paying another $20 per room on top of that. I wouldn't stay at this property again. It is small, cramped, and far from being the cleanest hotel I have stayed at. Being able to have my dog with me and the comfortable beds made the stay fine, but there are better options in Flagstaff. Perhaps my opinion will change as I try out other dog-friendly properties, but I can't see staying here again.

    « By the Tracks »

Lovely, friendly staff, and an amazing bountiful breakfast in a separate breakfast building--note that's a building and not a cramped room. What you need to know is that this is an older hotel that looks and feels older. It's clean and the beds are comfy. The Internet is spotty, so if that's important to you make sure you ask for a room close to their wifi router. We did and all was well. Here's one of the best perks about your stay here is the fact that you are literally right around the corner from Mama Luisa's Italian Restaurant! This fantastic restaurant is super well known in Flagstaff and very, very popular. You can easily walk to it. It's almost as close a a walk to your room. Really. But, the problem is that you need to go early because the wait there will be very, very long if you arrive after 7:30.

« Older but a pleasant place to stay »

The Best Western Pony Soldier Inn and Suites was an older Hotel, but was very clean, well maintained, and a great place to stay. It had a wonderful breakfast, friendly staff, great parking, super price for the time we stayed, great wi-fi, and many more wonderful amenities.

    « Excellent »

Pleasant stay with excellent free breakfast. The check was with ease and the person that helped us was very accommodating and friendly. It could have been a little older than some of the Best Westerns that we have stayed at in the past however, it was clean and comfortable.

« Just ok: strong air freshener odor in effort to cover "pet friendly" odors »

Full disclosure: I normally avoid "pet friendly" hotels because there are often funky odors either from the pets or from the EVS staff trying to disguise the pet odors. Even though I am a pet owner (who doesn't travel with his pet), this hotel reminds me of why I don't book at pet friendly hotels. There is a very strong odor of air freshener in the back hallway (stayed in room 129) but not in a nice way, in an old Aunt Jean's back parlor way. Ground floor request was honored but wished hadn't requested it. The floor (ceiling) above creaked and every movement of the guest above was audible. The room was clean however and the staff was friendly and courteous. The bed had a comfortable pillow top mattress with a variety of pillows. As mentioned by other reviewers, the breakfast was very good and held in a separate building that was spacious. The breakfast attendant could have been a bit more attentive as several tables were dirty and there were parts of newspapers strewn around a bit, but overall the breakfast was good. Unfortunately, one guest in particular believes pet friendly means they can bring their dog into the breakfast area with them (which is prohibited by health code unless the animal is a registered service animal: not the case here). The staff did not approach the guest and ask that the animal be removed. Finally, the hot tub was lukewarm, not hot (not even by hotel standards which tend to keep temps lower than one would at home). Given the favorable rate I paid around $80, I would consider it an ok value. However, it is unlikely I will stay here again. I travel to Flagstaff frequently and have other favorites, but decided to give this BW a try. It is conveniently located.

« Too expensive for the quality of the hotel »

The overall experience is good. However, this hotel was much more expensive than the Best Western Plus we stayed at in Las Vegas, Nevada. The location of the hotel is far from the downtown area of Flagstaff and far from restaurants. it is also close to the railroad tracks although we did not really hear it in our room. The breakfast items are excellent. There were a lot of choices from hot items, cereals, fresh fruit, fruit cups, dairy, muffins, breads. Our room was comfortable enough. The bathroom was clean.

    « Nice hotel on Rte. 66! »

I had a very nice room. It was comfortable, and nicely furnished. I was traveling south to Green Valley, and this was a perfect place to stop on my 3,500 mile route. My husband and I stopped here a number of years ago and were pleased with the room. This time I was alone, but enjoyed the amenities and cleanliness.

« overnight to visit the cold »

Just needed a hotel near the Arboretum. The room was OK and the breakfast was good. Great location. I feel the rooms were overpriced, although I did get a great discount on a hotel booking site. Needs to be a spruced up a bit. The pillows were small and square.. strange. Had a fridge in the room, so that was handy. There is no elevator so if you have trouble with stairs make sure to request 1st floor in advance. Overall, I would stay here again if just for 1 or 2 nights, but no longer.

« Good Value and Great Staff »

While this is an older, remodeled property, it's clean, comfortable, centrally located and the staff is absolutely wonderful. This location has one of the largest breakfast areas I've encountered at a Best Western and the free breakfast offers numerous selections so there's something for everyone. This was my second stay here and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when visiting Flagstaff.

    4
    « Passing Through »

The hotel was nice and comfortable. The room was small but we were only their for one night which was all we needed to continue our travels through the next day. The internet connection was good and there was a good selection of television channels to choose from. The bed was comfortable and clean.

    « Scott »

I'm giving it a five for the manager, Scott. My mother had a miscommunication with the hotel -- thinking that the room she was getting had 2 bathrooms as opposed to the 1 that it had (we had 5 people in the room). The room was the "family room", a room consisting of 3 beds, plus a living area. My mom noted the miscommunication, and Scott responded by moving us to two separate rooms, with one of the rooms being free. He seemed like a really nice, genuine guy. Great, great customer service. Scott, I applaud you.

    « Railroad central »

Very courteous staff, easy check in, clean rooms with flat screen. Perhaps if you stay at the back of the hotel you will not hear the constant railroad noise from across the frontage road. Every hours until past 2 am a train would role by with whistle and all. Nice breakfast in morning. Be warned if you stay here you will hear the train all night. I think most of the hotels along this road have the same issue.

This is a great choice for Best Western loyals. Easy to get to and rooms are very comfortable and clean. Hot breakfasts also awaits, One of the best night's sleep on the road...but Wi-Fi signal was not great. Said it was an excellent connection, but acted more like old dial-up.

« Pet friendly and Good beds »

Had a basic room, clean, excellent Wifi, mini fridge, micro, coffee maker, desk area. Just traveling through so location right off the Interstate was nice. Has a pet area but not enough for them to really run, so best for small dogs. This motel Staff was friendly and the breakfast was your basic fare.

    « Great staff »

An older property admittedly, but maintained to the standards I expect from Best Western. Arrived without a reservation and Beverly at the reception desk made a great effort not only to get us into a room away from the train tracks, but found us the best rate possible . As stated above, the property is somewhat dated, but is very clean with great beds. The full breakfast is a welcome addition

« Dated But Clean And Well Kept »

We chose to stay at BW Pony Soldier Inn & Suites during a weekend getaway to Flagstaff. Just a few miles from downtown, restaurants, the highway, or trails. You can notice the structure is dated but it has been renovated and well maintained. Typical free continental breakfast in the neighboring building each morning and very friendly staff at the front desk. Will use this location for future stays.

« Too expensive for an old tired strip motel. I was charged over 200.00!! »

Small older room, but clean, my main gripe is the expense. My Mother and I decided to drive to the Grand Canyon from Phoenix on Saturday Oct 10th. After a long day in Phoenix and a long drive we ended up at the Best Western. We were charged 220.00 aI was tired and paid the price. However I felt I was taken advantage of. But I guess you pay to not pre plan. No view, old, beds were ok and it was clean. Price was criminal. Easy to get to.

    « I wouldn't stay in this hotel again. »

We stayed here as it's close to drive to the Grand Canyon. The hotel is an older hotel so the rooms are smaller which made it hard to use my walker in the room. I didn't ask for a handicapped room because they only have them with a king bed & I was traveling with a friend so we needed 2 queen beds. The mattresses were old & too soft for my bad back. The breakfast in the morning was very disappointing. The food was cold and not appetizing. They didn't have a good selection like most of the Best Western Hotels I've stayed in. All in all I wouldn't stay here again. The staff at the front desk were very helpful in giving us directions when we asked for them. The staff made up for the room disappointment.

    4
    « Nice stopover »

Had a suite room. Nice room, only complaint would be the sofa needed cleaning. Seemed very dusty or just upholstery was worn out, would rub off on your clothes. Breakfast area nice and food fairly good. Was nice that room had two full bathrooms

    « Great Hotel on Route 66 »

It is a clean and comfortable hotel. The employees are very friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast had a waffle maker, hot eggs and bacon, grapefruit, fruit, toast, oatmeal. It has a indoor pool, and hot tub. If we make it back to Flagstaff, we will definitely stay here. Close to the restaurants we had planned to go to on this trip.

« Reasonable hotel with great front desk staff »

Spent a couple of nights here visiting nearby Sedona National Park, the hotel on the main road (old route 66) into Flagstaff is boarded by the main railway meaning there is some road/rail noise, although our room was towards the rear of the hotel so gave us no sleeping issues. An onsite breakfast room had a suitable array of choice to start your day. Nearby food outlets are a short walk from the hotel, but the great front desk staff advised a taxi ride "downtown" for a good array of bars and restaurants and organised a taxi to take us, who were also pleased to pick us up later. The room was clean and of reasonable quality, with a useful fridge a nice touch.

    5
    « Great Stay »

We would not hesitate to stay again. Location was great. Close to freeway entrances. Room was very clean and comfortable. People were very friendly and helpful. Best breakfast of our trip. Room was located on ground level and was quiet.

« Comfortable one night stay »

The rooms at Best Western hotels appear to be consistently good and this was no exception. A decent-sized room, clean with a very comfortable bed and good linens/towels. I booked this hotel as it had a pool, which it, indeed, does. The pool is covered and right next to the parking and there was a huge shipping container parked alongside which was a bit odd. There is a small area outside with a handful of sunbeds. It's a five minute drive into old Flagstaff but that means the hotel is relatively quiet despite being quite near the railway line. I happen to love the sound of American train whistles...

Fastselection was also good.

    « Fantastic Staff »

We stayed in this Motel 2 different nights. It was nice, clean, comfortable, and had a great breakfast. HOWEVER--When we left the hotel after our first night we left 2 nice jackets and my most favorite blouse behind. We went from Flagstaff to Durango, CO and much to our surprise the jackets were not with us. At first we thought we had left them in a restaurant, but they were not there, then I found my blouse was missing and I knew I had it in Flagstaff. I called and was told the jackets and blouse were there. The person I talked to said they had our address and could send them to us. I said we would be at the hotel again in a few days and would get them. When we arrived I was given a bag with said items and was told housekeeping had turned them in. When we went to our room there was an extremely helpful housekeeping person who I asked if there was any way I could find out the person that turned them in. She said she would check and found out Shirley (the woman that turned the stuff in) was still working and sent her to me. It is so good to find such honest and kind people. I will always have a warm feeling for Best Western and in particular this Motel and of course Shirley.
