Best Western Plus Hotel Excelsior

Great location - easy walk to the railway station and many of the attractions. Our room was really quiet, clean and although small it had plenty of storage space for our belongings. Very nice staff at the reception. Breakfast was very good and plenty staff here also friendly and helpful. The bar keeper was a bit strange - maybe she was not feeling well.

Room was clean, simple. Adequate storage, decent shower, quiet. Short walk to train station. Able to easily walk into more scenic part of town. Good breakfast included in our price.Front desk staff friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay in Erfurt.

Staff were very pleasant but there was very little English spoken. As in many hotels we stayed in Germany, there was only one black tea bag in a double room meant for two people! Very strange. One thing to note for all guests is regards to the safe. I could not work out how to key-in my own personal code number to lock/unlock the safe, so I went to reception and they gave me a slip of paper with a four digit code on it. I said that I wanted to enter my own (secret) number and was told that this could not be done! I argued that it should be possible to key in my own code but they said that I could not. I was not happy but had to accept it. Later I remembered a safe in another hotel where you could change the code by pressing a reset button on the inside edge of the door toward the hinge. I tried this and it worked. When I Checked out I left them with a written instruction in German (using an online translator) on how to change the code.

This hotel in no way is 4 star, about 2.5 would see it out. The photos are misleading and made to look better than it is. 2 lifts to get to the room is different. At no time are any reception staff at the desk. The rooms are furnished with basic 1950s furniture and as others have said about the air conditioning is true. We had one of these rooms but when we complained it didn't work a man came up put his hand on vent and said it takes time to cool down. The next day an air conditioning man came and told us it is not air conditioning but an evaporation system. Useless. A fan was supplied that did help. To us 4star hotels have dining rooms not this one. The 20 minute walk down town to eat was much better than railway station take away. No bathroom toiletries either. Either Best Western or Trip Advisor should relate this place as neither companies image is enhanced by this property. Good point it close to the station.

My wife and I stayed here for a business trip. We booked this hotel because Trip Advisor clearly stated it had Air-conditioned rooms. We were traveling in August and knew the weather would be very hot. Once we arrived we were told there were only a few rooms with air conditioning and none were available. This is not acceptable to advertise this and yet not provide it to guests. Additionally, we sat near the bar area for 10 minutes as we spoke with friends, The bartender was very frustrated with us even though we asked if that would be okay. This is was a disappointing experience.

BW Excelsior is a decent hotel close to train station as well as to the city center. Rooms are good and you are offered a free bottle of water on the first day of your stay. Reception staff is very nice and the the restaurant in the first floor offers a tasteful selection of local food. Breakfast is very nice with a lot of choices.

Quiet room, clean. Good breakfast. Luggage storage. Near city centre. Good staff, helpfull. Bathroom is small. Perfect for citytrip. No noise from street. Beds are good. Perfect if you travel by train.

We had 4 nights at this centrally located hotel and enjoyed it very much. It was hot and the hotel doesn't have air con, but the room was very large and comfortable with a good size bathroom and lots of windows that opened to the courtyard. The location is ideal for sightseeing as it is just a few steps from the train station. The staff at the desk and in the restaurant were very efficient and friendly, breakfast room was nice and the buffet selection was outstanding. Very clean, - our room didn't have carpet, but a very appealing sofa and chairs. Wi-fi fast and free, would definitely stay here again.

As we were touring Germany by train it was essential to find a good hotel close to the railway station; this hotel is less than 5 minutes walk. It offers good sized rooms with comfortable beds and a sufficient breakfast. The staff were courteous and the hotel experience ensured that our two days in Erfurt were relaxed and trouble free.

A mixed bag. Not modern, but clean. Room and bathroom dated. Always iffy when the carpet has seen its best days. Completely rescued by a wonderful and plentiful breakfast spread. Hotel is ok for a few nights, but do not expect luxury. No a/c, at least in my room.

Clean, efficient and very friendly staff. Easy to access from the train station and an easy walk into the center of the city. Rooms are comfortable and always made up quickly by cleaning staff. Look forward to staying there again

Well located hotel, close to the train station and in walking distance to the city centre, cathedral, shopping. Excellent breakfast buffet. Rooms and amenities are ok. Small setback: beds (twin room) are quite narrow. Overall: not a luxury place, but clean and efficient, good value.

The reception staff are extermely welcoming, freindly and very efficient. The rooms are renovated, and very comfortable and this hotel offers a fantastic breakfast. Located just a 5 min walk from the central train stn which is very convenient. -Highly recommended

AUG 22, Old hotel center city. Last minute reservation due to poor planning. Noisy floor shakes when street car goes by. Small room hard bed with one pillow per bed. Poor value at 126e and 9e for parking down narrow alley into a secure parking lot. You would not want to leave your car at night in this area. Wifi .5MBPS slow but enough for email hard to connect. Very good breakfast.

Conveniently located very near to train station and near to major tourist attractions. Facilities in good shape. Clean and well maintained. Parking available, but not for free. Breakfast buffet not superb but certainly sufficient. All of the staff we encountered were excellent. They were very understanding when we needed to leave a day early due to a major illness in our family.

We booked the BW because of the 5 minute (or less) walk to the HBF. The location is obviously great for the train but we were pleasantly surprised what an easy walk it is in the other direction - to the center of town. We spent 6 hours walking around town then made the short walk back to the BW. The room was great, we booked one of the rooms with AC just in case but it wasn't really needed. Very comfortable beds. Very helpful and friendly staff. Very nice breakfast spread in the morning. The Ritz it ain't, but for what it is, it's terrific. Highly recommended.

I've stayed at the Best Western in Erfurt for two days only, which is why it was the perfect hotel for such a short city break. The hotel is located literally 5 minutes from the main central station so you can basically come by train if you're not driving. 10 minutes away you'd find Erfurt city center that offers lots of old style German restaurants, cathedrals, museums and coffee places. Breakfast... was a disaster. They ran out of O.J and water which took them 15 minutes to re-fill. Same with the scramble eggs and some types of cheese. May I emphasize the fact that breakfast was not due to end for at least 45 minutes when we arrived. Once we all got what we were waiting for we started having our breakfast after waiting for it for nearly 20 minutes. And then – surprise! The lights went off, right on time! It took them 20 minutes to prepare our breakfast but only one second to tell us we are no longer welcome at the area. And that is simply a story that had to be told. Overall if you don't care much about breakfast – don't hesitate and take this hotel, it's probably the best one around. The staff is very kind (other than the “evil” breakfast people :) ) and the hotel, despite being in the center is pretty quiet and the bed is comfortable so you could actually have a good night sleep.

I stayed for 04 Nights in the hotel , i would say one of the best in terms of Location , it just 250 metres from the Erfurt Train station , so you can just walk on to your hotel easily, the local tram stations are also nearby so you dont have to take public taxis everytime to visit more attractions , the rooms were good , food was excellent and the staff also very polite , so overall i will say it is a best stay for both business & leisure travellers in a economical budget .
