    « Well worth considering »

For: Near restaurants and pubs and opposite a park. Just 1 1/2 miles from Princes Street. Quiet, clean, warm, with helpful staff and lovely rooms (at least the ones I've stayed in) Against: Set your mobile phone alarm, the alarm calls don't always happen, but nothing else I can think of. Breakfast was probably good, but I didn't get to find out (see above).

    « Leisurely weekend stay »

Enjoyed a two night stay in Bruntsfeild hotel. Lovely room huge bathroom. Room clean and warm with view onto park area. Not disturbed at all by traffic noise. Lovely breakfast. Approximately 20 - 25 minute walk to Princes Street.

    « great break »

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in November. We arrived early but we we were able to check in right away. Room was clean with a view over park across road. Hotel was slightly out of town but this is not a problem as bus runs past hotel and you can travel all day for £4. There was a great breakfast cooked freshly. We ate in hotel in evening and found meals to be good value. Staff at reception were very helpful. I would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it for a stay

    « Vacation »

I loved this it here at this hotel! I had a wonderful stay here. It was a central location and an excellent staff. Everyone was attentive and responsive to any needs or concerns I had. The hotel was clean and quiet. It was within walking distance to my daughters flat so I was able to walk back after visiting her each day and I always felt safe walking alone whether it was daytime or after dark. I will definitely use this hotel every time I come to visit and I have already recommended it to others.

« Nice location, friendly staff »

Close to many restaurants and right in front of a small park, this hotel is great for your visit of Edinburgh. The hotel is lovely and the staff is so friendly. I would surely highly recommend this hotel

« Close to city centre »

A very luvly spacious room, clean tidy and all you could ask for,had the breakfast included wich was excellant good choice hot or cold, have a luvly bar and lounge very resonable in price ad about a 15 mins walk to the the centre of town and with free parking would stay here again

    « Good Hotel »

Had no problem parking in the hotel grounds - a real bonus in Edinburgh. Room was large and quiet. Very clean, as was the bathroom. We did not eat in the hotel, apart from breakfast, which was superb. Great range of breakfast foods from cooked to fruit. Staff were attentive and polite. Enjoyed a drink in the bar, prices were fair compared to London hotel prices. I would recommend this hotel without reservation.

    « Charming hotel »

Spent 2 nights here so we could attend a conference at the nearby Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Really convenient - only 10-12 minutes walk away. Room was a good size, comfortable and quiet with a nice bathroom. Plenty of tea making materials plus biscuits replenished each day. Breakfast was fantastic - try the Full Scottish! Good free wifi in room. Could do with a second lift or one specifically for staff use.

    « Dire WiFi....great breakfast »

I'm 50/50 about this place ( I usually stay at the Caley off Princess St ). The parking is very hit and miss, no pun intended. The breakfast with haggis and black pudding is top notch but the WiFi is just dreadful. I couldn't actually connect to my VPN for more than a minute or so and then it was so slow I just gave up, despite the staff trying their best. The result was that I had to work on my day off just to input data that I usually input in the evenings. It's a compromise .... a good breakfast vs losing a day off because you can't finalise work? You decide...

« Lovely hotel. Friendly staff. »

Spent a long (3-night) weekend in this lovely hotel while visiting my daughter, who's studying at Edinburgh university. Was allocated a spacious twin room, which allowed my daughter to stay with me for a couple of the nights. Everyone at the hotel - from the receptionists, the lovely ladies at breakfast, the cleaning staff and maintenance staff up to Susie, the GM were very kind and helpful.Had a problem with the TV, which was fixed in 5 minutes; didn't understand how to work the (free) wifi: that, too, was sorted in under 5 minutes. Had room service on the last night (soup & sandwiches), which was promptly delivered, tasty & good value. I will definitely be staying here again when I/we next visit our daughter and would highly recommend it to anyone else.

« great place to stay »

We stayed here for a weekend lovely stay staff really welcoming and very helpful through out our stay .room was lovely and huge really warm as so cold outside .We had breakfast included and that was really tasty lots of choices and cold Buffett followed by great cooked choice .The communal areas with lovely sofas and chairs were very relaxing to sit in and the overall ambience of this hotel is really welcoming, We would definitely stay here again .The parking here which we got use of every time but its limited in saying that there is parking outside but you have to pay to park there .. This hotel is in a nice area not to far from the town centre and all the restaurants and bars .

    « An excellent hotel »

The Bruntsfield is excellent. It is away from the very centre of Edinburgh, but within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and Princes Street. Since there is on-site parking we were able to leave the car and explore the city on foot. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are reminiscent of a thriving village with a very good mix of shops and restauarants and across the road there is a park that allows access by foot to the city centre almost exclusively by parkland. We had a beautiful room that was spacious and had two comfortable chairs and a table that rendered the excellent hotel lounges redundant from our point of view. Everything in the room lent itself to guest convenience and there were no irritating omissions. The ladies who cleaned the room were friendly, helpful and very thorough. The breakfast buffet was first class enabling the guest to have a very pleasant continental breakfast. A cooked breakfast was also available that covered the normal range of UK-style breakfasts. The dinner menu was a little unimaginative (especially if you dined on a day when the daily special was unappealing) but the food was carefully prepared and presented. We had a minor problem with our booking because, apparently, the booking codes of the hotel differed from the codes of Best Western with whom we booked. But the matter was settled with efficiency and great courtesy by the hotel manager. We would always consider this hotel whenever we visited Edinburgh.

« Wonderful weekend in Edinburgh and BW+ Bruntsfield »

We had a great autumn weekend in fantastic Edinburgh, enjoying sunny weather and an amazing city. The stay at BW+ City Centre Bruntsfield was really good. Reasonable distance to city centre, old and new town (just a couple of minutes walk). It's a cozy and friendly hotel with really nice and modern rooms. The service offered at the hotel was really good, served by an always positive staff. I could really recommend this hotel for a nice stay in Edinburgh. /Jorgen

    « A good experience »

A clean, comfortable hotel where you are looked after. Lovely breakfasts and downstairs is the Bisque Bar where you can enjoy a meal or simply choose from an excellent selection of beers, wines and spirits.

« Comfy, clean, central and tasty »

Lovely staff and a nice quick check in. Clean room and perfectly sufficient for what we needed. The bed was incredibly comfy. Our room was at the back (37) and was very quiet. Loads of hot water and plenty of power in the shower. Excellent breakfast with a massive choice. the Bircher Mueseli was fab! There wasn't much parking at the hotel but plenty on street, however only two hours at a time. Free after 6 on a Saturday night though and all day Sunday which is handy.

    5
    « Perfect Hotel »

Very impressed with this hotel. The location is ideal for exploring the city; the parking is free; the staff are all polite, helpful and friendly;our bedroom was massive; the restaurant is great along with breakfast. Absolutely zero negatives!

« Excellent two night stay »

We always stay at this hotel as it is very well located if you are travelling to Edinburgh with a car! Very good room, excellent bar and breakfast always efficiently served! Slight issue with a towel rail and a chilly bathroom but having been told it didn't work, mysteriously it was on next time we went back to our room! Very nice staff and a friendly welcome always.

    4
« Well located and comfortable, but restaurant was disappointing »

This hotel is located about 20 minutes walk from the main attractions in Edinburgh, in an area with a reasonable choice of restaurants. The hotel itself was fine, the room was clean and spacious enough, and the bed was comfortable. One disappointment, however, was the restaurant - which was okay for breakfast but our dinner there the first night was poor.

    « Would definitely return »

Loved the location, perfect for a short walk to the city centre but some great bars and shops nearby too. A lovely park across the road (bigger than you think) The hotel is spotless and our room was good too. The facilities (when we found our way around) were great. Shame we weren't told much on arrival by a very professional and polite gentleman on reception. We had to ask where to go for breakfast as it was tucked out of the way and it appeared that coffee and biscuits were free in the reception eaiting area??? The WiFi is rubbish though. Very frustrating as you constantly have to sign in. But the lovely lady on reception as we checked out was very concerned about it! A minor issue in a lovely hotel that we would definitely return to and recommend.

Fab hotel fab staff -couldnt fault any of it -we always stay every year and find it most relaxing -and staff are brilliant would recomend it to anyone -you get what you pay for and only a 10 minute walk into town -great

« Good value for money »

Our family room was spacious, split into two rooms with a large bathroom which had both a bath and a shower- useful for the wee ones. Room was clean and warm. Staff were very pleasant, and breakfast was great with lots of choice. There are shops and restaurants nearby, the Meadows are across the road with a playground about 5 mins walk away. The Royal Mile is about 25 mins walk, but there are plenty of buses to the city from the stop 100m up the road.

    5
    « A holiday to remember »

We had a really lovely stay in Edinburgh and would readily return on another trip to stay at this hotel. Staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Facilities are good and and the breakfast excellent. Thank you to all concerned for your efforts.

« Spacious room located a short walk from several theatres »

We booked here as we were looking for a nice place to stay after a night out at the theatre. (Kings theatre is walking distance away). Often when staying in capital city hotels space is at a premium but the room we booked (superior) was huge with a very comfy four poster bed. There's free parking for hotel guests so we could ditch the car and explore Edinburgh by foot. The neighbourhood is very artisinal with craft coffee, chocolate and cheesecake within 100 yards of the hotel as well as a wealth of bars and eateries close by. Would definitely stay here again next time we're in Edinburgh.

    « QUIRKY LAYOUT »

We stayed here for two nights on a trip to Edinburgh. The hotel has parking though it is limited. The welcome was very friendly but we did have problems finding our room. The hotel is quirky in its layout with corridors and steps all over the place. We found the right room eventually. It was quite quirky as well with the main bedroom which was quite small and then down three steps to the wardrobe and bathroom. It was clean and comfortable though. We were overlooking the dining room and terrace and it was very quiet. We did eat in the restaurant on the first night and I had the best beefburger I have ever had. All in all it was a very comfortable stay.

« Fabulous attention in The Scottish Capital City Hotel! »

From the minute I booked this hotel to the minute I sadly left I felt confident and contented that everything would be taken care of! I stayed two nights and all the staff without exception were very helpful, friendly and smiley faced! When dealing with the public it is not always easy to achieve this standard so very well done to the Management in this hotel for training the fabulous staff. The food was excellent and we had my grandson to please! His food arrived very quickly and was freshly cooked and delicious! I also attended an evening buffet function and the food was delicious, beautifully served piping hot with excellent quality! The breakfast was also fabulous with a vast selection to choose. There was certainly no need to go hungry!!! The next time I require to stay in Edinburgh I shall not hesitate to stay at the Brilliant Bruntsfield Hotel. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

    « Exceptional .. again ... »

Always the same , I love this hotel I try to visit Edinburgh as often as I can & always try to stay here , Such a friendly hotel, the staff are wonderful, the rooms are always well serviced & the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is fantastic & is always freshly cooked to order. A great location too , just far enough away from the city centre , it only takes around 25 minutes to walk to Princess Street or if like me your a fan of the Grass Market & the old town it's even nearer, on a good bus route too , especially handy if raining ..

    4
« Great choice of breakfast »

Clean spacious rooms. complimentary coffee and shortbread biscuits in reception - a great touch. Friendly staff, led from the front by the Manager. Great choice of breakfast - the usual suspects: cereal, toast, meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurts. A big plus was the full Scottish cooked breakfast (cooked to order, not from the buffet), porridge (Unfortunately I'm from the ready brek generation so I can't cope with real porridge!) and star of the show scrambled egg with salmon which was a big hit. The Bisque Bar was very good, we had a nightcap there and the prices were comparable to other places we frequented in the city centre. The only drawback we found about the hotel was the distance from the centre - about 20/25 minutes walk. Because of the size of our party we needed 2 taxis each journey if an 8 seater was unavailable.

« Pleasant stay at elegant hotel »

We enjoyed our stay at the Edinburgh Bruntsfield Hotel. The old hotel was well refurbished, clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. The lobby was elegant. The rooms were pretty and comfortable, clean and spacious. We enjoyed the great breakfast buffet that included a cooked breakfast. Good value for money too. Would certainly book again.

    « Very close to 4 star »

Pros: - Friendly and helpful staff - Comfortable beds - Good room sizes - Clean rooms - Plenty of warm water for showers - Fantastic turndown service - A 10 minute taxi journey to the centre of Edinburgh Cons: - Thin walls meaning you can hear a lot of the busy traffic between 5am and 9pm, especially when the emergency services travel by. This also means you can often hear the television in the adjacent rooms. - Wifi cuts out every 15 minutes and not a one-day problem as I stayed there for 5 nights For a semi-budget hotel this one rates very well!

« Welcoming Staff, nice room, good location »

The walk to the Royal Mile takes about 30 minutes or a cab for 5pounds. Our room was quite large (124) with an even larger bathroom. We faced the park across the street - no street noise at all. Because the hotel is comprised of three row houses, there are a lot of twists, turns and steps to get around the hallways but nothing that cannot be easily navigated and steps are just two or three at a time. Nice breakfast options consisting of continental and hot options. Front desk staff was gracious and welcoming. Good location, safe neighbor and would stay again.

« No sleep at all »

Nice place but room very basic lots of street and corridors noise and bed the softest most uncomfortable I have ever tried to sleep in. Was awake literally every 5 minutes and am now exhausted. £140 for a really bad night. Thanks a lot. Oh and then have to pay another tenner each for breakfast! There must be better rooms/hotels to stay in Edinburgh for that price. Will not be staying here again

    « Anniversary heaven.... »

Loved our stay here...very friendly staff, felt welcome and at home! Even moreso on being presented with a glass of bubbly on hearing it was our anniversary..Scottish hospitality at it's best! Lovely park across from hotel leading into city centre. The walk itself taking in the history and amazing architecture of Edinburgh was mesmerising. There is also a varied selection of shops more or less the minute you leave the hotel with Princes Street not too far away, within walking distance. Our room was warm, but I'd rather that than cold.. huge fan in room but didn't want to fall asleep with it on..I had to open the window and didn't sleep much because of the city traffic, however I put that down to coming from the countryside. My husband however was 'out' like a log, too much retail therapy no doubt! Looking forward to returning!

    5
« Certainly one of the best »

Ring the hotel direct, the booking staff could not be more helpful. The rooms are very clean, spacious and well appointed. The food is excellent, even though the menu does not change there is sufficient choice for anyone and almost too much at breakfast. The wine list is varied with prices below what you would expect of an hotel of this star rating. The situation is ideal - close to the Castle, Princes Street and Holyrood. All of this is very good, but what matters most is he courteousness and efficiency of the staff.

    4
    « Excellent value »

I booked a "wee single" for a night and was greatly surprised to find I had plenty of space and a double bed! The in house restaurant was also worth a visit, catering for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat-eaters. A real bonus to have parking so near the city centre. I will definitely stay again.

    5
    « I like Best Western Hotels »

Not right in the centre of Edinburgh but close enough. I found this to be a really good hotel, made better by waiting till the last minute to book to get a really good deal. As I have said before BW give you a standard and this does not disappoint. Nice room (very big in fact), very clean and lovely breakfast. If I have a frown it is the wifi link. I don't know if this is becoming a wide problem but the link was weak and caused connection problems on my laptop.

    « best western bruntsfield »

Just finished another stay at The Best Western Plus in Bruntsfield hotel, our overall impression was very good I think that the secret of our returning is in the staff, really wonderful. Also the location is one of the best to explore old Edinburgh

« Ideal Theatre Visit Retreat. »

Set across the road from Brunstfield Links, this hotel proved to be the ideal place to stay for our theatre visit to Edinburgh. The bus stops just outside the hotel, and for £1.40, we were dropped right outside the Playhouse Theatre. The hotel itself is a beautiful old building, immaculately kept and served by very helpful and friendly staff. It also has free parking, a novelty in Edinburgh. Brunstfield Links is an immense meadow right in the heart of the city which even offers free golf! Food at the hotel is served in a modern styled Bistro and was of a very good quality, reasonably priced. We made an excellent choice using this hotel and would definitely return, however we would not choose room 31 again. Although the bed was extremely comfortable and the room clean with all the provisions you would need, it was extremely warm. The window only opened a few inches and there was an large, noisy extraction fan outside it. Other rooms, facing the park looked much better.

« Great location and staff but not good for business. »

Short one night stay. Chose the hotel as close to meetings. The pros - 1. The staff are fabulous 2. The location is fantastic and cannot be faulted. 3. Room service is speedy and the food absolutely fine. 4. The room was as quiet as a city centre room can be. 5. The beds are very comfy The cons - 1. The wifi is terrible. It is free but so slow you cannot send even short emails. No option to upgrade. 2. The room is very tired and is showing its age. The room really needs redecorating. 3. There was no dressing gown in the room. I thought this was standard by now. Overall great if you don't mind tired rooms as a trade off for location. Not good for business travellers.

    5
    « Great Edinburgh hotel »

We stayed here for 6 days to attend a conference at EICC and for a short family holiday afterwards. The hotel is excellent. We had one of the superior rooms which was quiet. The room was presented and equipped to a high standard. Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfasts were wonderful and a great way to start the day. We also ate at the restaurant several times in the evening which we would also recommend. The hotel is nicely situated on the Links with easy access into town by bus or walking through the Meadows. It was a pleasant 15 minute walk to the EICC along the canal. The hotel has a traditional feel to it and character. Highly recommended. We would definitely stay again.

    « Best Western disappoints »

We arrived at the hotel at 7:30 am after an over night flight from Toronto, Canada. Our designated rooms were not ready, which was not the end of the world but they offered no options. I had to inquire if there were other rooms available, low and behold there was. Why could they not have offered that themselves. I guess if we (4 people) were willing to hang around the lobby it was easier for them! Some of the front desk staff were not overly pleasant. Our room was good, courtyard, the other room not so much, small and noisy. If I return to Edinburugh, this will not be my first choice.

« Great customer service and room! »

Stayed in room 17(executive room) for 3 nights from 5 to 8 Sept. We were checked in and checked out by Alex, always smiling, knowledgeable and approachable. In fact all of the staff working there were friendly. The room we got was a little dark and warm, despite having a powerful stand fan in the room. The bathroom had a walk in shower, bath tub and toilet. It was quite nice. The bed was big and comfortable and the TV was right in front of the bed. We didn't have the breakfast but we did try a meal in the bistro. Wasn't impressed with the meal. I had fish and chips(probably the most expensive fish and chips I've ever had) and it didn't taste good. Anyways, there are place to eat in Edinburgh. Overall, it was a good experience throughout the 3 nights. Free WiFi but I didn't use it as the 4g network was fantastic. Husband did try the WiFi on his iPad and it was ok.

    « Mrs »

A lovely stay in a very friendly hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly and gave an excellent service. Breakfast choice was excellent as was cleanliness of the hotel. Wifi could be a bit hit and miss and our room was a little dark, but I bed was comfy and we would certainly recommend this hotel.

    « Nice Townhouse hotel »

Visited the hotel as it was recommended by the Edinburgh Napier University, being in close proximity to drop our son to his first year in college. The hotel is situated in what's seems a renovated town house location giving it a nice quaint look. The maze of rooms inside is a bit confusing. Stayed there for 3 nights. Friendly staff with a zealous housekeeper unintentionally waking us up at around 8 am daily to clean the room. Advisable to put the Do not Disturb sign on my next visit here :-) The room was comfortable with a nice townhouse setting. It would be nice if the hotel had an integral mixer tap instead of separate hot and cold water taps. Also a good idea if the management can install Universal sockets for plugging in phones and computers for charging. Right now the rooms are only fitted in with 3 pin square sockets unlike the rest of Europe. Fortunately I had carried an adaptor. Overall a good experience. Dinner at the hotel was very good. I would have loved to extend my last stay here but the hotel was fully booked. But will visit again

« Nice hotel, nice location »

Perfectly decent hotel, well located in Bruntsfield close to a good range of shops and restaurants (and with a decent restaurant of its own), near the university and old town, with good transport links etc. and free (although not very plentiful) parking. My room was newly refurbished, very clean and quite well equipped, and bigger than I expected (I booked 'small single' and was expecting something the size of a broom cupboard, but actually more like a small double). Overall a pleasant experience. I will be back for sure

    4
    « A pleasing experience »

Our standard room far out passed our previous Best Western hotel in Moffat. We were at the back of the hotel which was quiet and ensured a good nights sleep. The room was large and a big bathroom. Staff were very friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious and varied with obliging waiters to answer all needs. We did think the hotel was more central to the main attractions but there was a good bus service, £ 1.60 per person to wherever you were going. Would recommend it.

    5
    « Charming hotel. »

My 14 year old daughter and I booked the Bruntsfield hotel as my eldest daughter lives near by - as she is studying at the University of Edinburgh. There were no problems checking in and our room was situated on the first floor. The room was immaculate, not a thing out of place and decorated to an exceptionally high standard, the bed was absolutely gigantic, so comfortable and I lost count of how many pillows were supplied! Bathroom was large, clean and stocked with necessary toiletries, our hotel package did not include breakfast or dinner but there aren't a shortage of cafes and restaurants in the area so that wasn't a problem, however the prices at the hotel bar and restaurant seemed reasonable enough anyway. It's not a long walk to city centre, possibly 20 minutes if you stroll at your leisure. I would definitely book the Bruntsfield again -although not what you'd consider cheap at £120 per night midweek when we visited, I've stayed in a Premier Inn down the road for virtually the same price and know where I'd prefer! I look forward to returning, the Bruntsfield is a truly charming hotel.

    4
    « Good choice »

Our first night in Edinburgh so decided on a hotel instead of our usual guest house. Reception staff were helpful and our ground floor room was ideal. Good size and comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely and the wait staff were attentive. A special mention must go to the bar man who was very knowledgeable when it came to beer and was very friendly. Wish I could remember his name but he was the older of the two that served us. Only issue was the wifi which we found to be extremely hit and miss despite the ridiculously involved connection instructions.

    4
    « A great place to stay »

This is a very nice hotel about 10 minutes away from Princess street and very close to a number of nice restaurants and pubs/bars etc. Bruntsfield is a great place to eat and drink and the hotel is in striking distance of central Edinburgh. We were glad we chose this very good hotel.

    5
    « Super stay »

Recently stayed there and all in all very happy with this hotel. Great location, super sized double bedroom with a baby cot and even a separate dressing room as part of the one bedroom, The bed was the biggest I have ever seen! Fantastic stay and only 20 min walk from Princess Street.

    3
« Decent Choice if You're in the Area »

This was a first stay for us and it worked well for our needs. We typically stay in smaller places and you may need to leave bread crumbs to find your way back to your room but that's hardly a criticism; it is a bigger place. We had an Executive Room and it was quite large with a separate seating area and a bathroom larger than some of the single rooms I've had in other hotels. The furniture didn't all match but I didn't really notice until my wife pointed it out. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful; the breakfast staff a bit less so but not a real problem. I was concerned about road noise but that turned out not to be a problem with the room we had. We'd stay here again if we decide we want to be just a wee bit away from the Royal Mile or New Town (our usual hotel's location). The price provides a real good value.

« Very comfortable hotel in a good location »

A very comfortable hotel with good facilities located close enough to the centre of Edinburgh to allow walking to most of the main tourist spots. Our room was a very good size and very well furnished. We ate evening meals at the hotel restaurant and enjoyed the relatively wide selection, and the daily specials. There is parking available on site, but it can be limited.

    4
    « Lovely hotel »

I am very impressed with my room at the Best Western Plus. My single room is skinny but fairly spacious for just me. The room is clean, the bed is comfortable, the bathroom is good and the room is equipped with a kettle and some coffee/hot chocolate. The only issue was the slight noise from the street coming through the window. Staff are helpful and kind. Baggage storage was excellent.

    5
    « Overnight stay »

We were going to a wedding at Prestonfield House, they were fully booked and found the Brunstfield using google. It was a great find. Very friendly and accommodating staff. We needed access to the room a little early to get ready for the wedding and we were a little late down to breakfast the following day. The receptionist made sure we had access to the room early and the breakfast staff made sure we had a good breakfast. The room was very comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend.

    5
    « Did not disappoint »

Have stayed here before and the hotel did not disappoint on a return visit. Very comfortable and very pleasant. Everything went smoothly during the stay (although the free wifi can be a little temperamental). The location means that you are away from the hustle and bustle of the old town but can walk to it through the Meadows in little more than twenty minutes.

This hotel is the best we have ever stayed in. The room was large, we booked into one of the four poster rooms, with a decent sized bathroom. Plenty of space to relax. The staff were very friendly and as for the breakfasts, well we didn't need to refuel until much later in the day. The room was clean and tidy, the toiletries were a nice treat and very much needed after going to watch so many shows. Far enough away from the crowds and an excellent place to stay, park just over the road, which means you can walk into town to avoid the crowds. Will def be going back again next year.

stayed here with my husband for 3 nights. easy to find. lovely hotel. very friendly helpful staff. easy check in. we stayed in room 33. room itself was very nice, comfortable large bed and plenty of space for 2. very clean and serviced daily. facilities to make tea/coffee. safe available for belongings. the only down side to this room was the view. looks out over a flat roof and the windows of another part of the building. one bonus from here we could see the fire works from the tattoo. would have like a better view but by no means spoiled our stay in any way. breakfast was excellent. good choice of cereals, cold meats cheeses, toast and pastries and of course cooked breakfast too. tea and coffee flowing. we also had an evening meal in the restaurant on the night we arrived. it was superb. well cooked. good choice of starters, mains and desserts. very attentive bar staff. nothing was too much trouble. staff provided directions to attractions on request. 15 minute walk into Edinburgh.

Comfortable pleasant rooms, very attentive staff, quiet and peaceful but minutes from the center of the Edinburgh Festival activities. Nice touches such as fruit, coffee, biscuits in the lobby. Only ate Bisque at the restaurant but was very good.

« Second visit as good as the first »

This was our second visit to Edinburgh and each time was stayed at the Best Western in Bruntsfield. It is a lovely hotel, if a little old fashioned. The previous visit was in March 2014. The corridors of the hotel, make it appear as a bit of a rabbit warren. We were welcomed by two very professional receptionists upon arrival and given room 120, a lovely room on the first floor with a view over the park in front of the hotel. The bar and the breakfast room is on the lower ground floor, with a view over a small garden. Breakfast was once again excellent, with a great team of staff to look after the guests. The hotel is within walking distance of the city through the park, it is a fairly long walk though.

« Enjoyed my stay here »

Nicely presented room, comfortable bed, clean bathroom. Breakfast was fine, too. Located down a short flight of stairs so moving luggage wasn't convenient. Also, too near the delivery trucks in the morning. Suggest asking for another room if it bothers you.

« A good hotel for the Fringe »

This hotel was considerably less expensive than other options in Old Town & New Town, the centre of Fringe action, but in reality it was a very easy (and very picturesque) 20 to 25 minute walk away. It's also directly across the street from a beautiful park area, which I found very safe to navigate even very late at night. I definitely do not regret my decision to stay in Bruntsfield! The staff were very friendly and the room suited my needs. My only complaint, if I had to name one, was the fact that the room had no mini-fridge.

    « Delightful staff »

This hotel is in a superb location and less than a 15 minute walk to the centre of the city. The staff are delightful. However, one of the staff,Jean Dobbie,is a superb ambassador for the hotel. She has been there 26 years and seems as enthusiastic, warm and engaging as she must have been in her first year.Nothing better than being greeted at breakfast with a beaming smile and knowing your name.I have highlighted one person but all staff that I met were professional, warm and eager to please. We will return again.

« Enjoyable stay during the festival »

My partner and I stayed during the festival period when the hotel was busy, but the service remained excellent. The bed was comfortable, the room (at the rear of the hotel) was quiet, the promised items were there and the room was serviced well. The breakfasts were wonderful, with a wide choice of food. The staff all made us feel welcome, too. We're saving for a return visit!

« Very impressed - perfect location for Fringe »

I stayed here a couple of nights with work & have to say I'm very impressed with the room, service, food and location! Beautiful! Walkable to city centre but in a pretty area with a view of park. Will be back & recommend. This meal was particularly yummy! :)

« Great hotel and location »

Was an easy walk to the old city and castle. Bar was good and breakfast was more than enough. Room was large and bathroom huge. Staff was very helpful. Beef at dinner was not the best. Staff did there best making up for it.

« Highly recommended city centre hotel »

We enjoyed a short overnight stay here during our recent cycle trip along the John Muir Way. Our room was very comfortable, spacious and homely. The breakfast was excellent with an extensive continental buffet and the traditional 'full Scottish'. The staff were welcoming (despite our arrival in muddy cycling gear), friendly and very helpful. An honourable mention and thanks to Iain H who even helped to clean our bikes on arrival. Excellent all round for service and accommodation.

    « Fringe/Tattoo visit ...... »

Lovely hotel in a perfect location with lovely walks to the city, just the right distance. Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Couldn't do enough to help. Very clean and the room we had was extremely comfortable with a fabulous bed so good nights sleep. The resturant - breakfast everything you could wish for and loads of it. The resturant was busy every night we ate there so that says it all, the food was delicious. All in all a lovely hotel in a perfect location for the fringe and tattoo and taxi fares were not to steep either. There was a car park, but we traveled by train so can't really comment on that. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Used to live in Edinburgh so knew it well. Room was quite small, right at the front overlooking the busy road. The real issue was that the room was far too hot - no aircon - and if you opened the window it was too noisy. Just unlucky with room I guess as the rest was fine.

This is a very old fashioned style of hotel. Could maybe do with a little updating, but we found it charming. Rooms aren't huge, but we didn't spend long in ours. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. This hotel isn't in the very centre of Edinburgh.... it`s about a 15-20 min stroll to Princes Street, but there are some bars & restaurants in the area. Breakfast was very good. The hot breakfast was cooked to order. Free parking is available but is limited. .

    « Average hotel »

When travelling I check TripAdvisor reviews before booking, 95% of the time the reviews are right on the money. However this time it was not the case. Firstly the hotel is old and in need of refurbishment. We had room 212 and although it was a little noisy, it did not bother us. What was worse were the dirty curtains, floor was sloping to the centre, bed was not very comfortable, leak in the hallway and to top all this off, one the second morning whilst showering, the metal cover from the downlight fell and hit me on the head and the light was hanging by the wire. I Reported the incident to the lady on reception, she referred me to the manager, he said he would have maintenance look at it. Neither staff member asked weather I was hurt but gave a half hearted apology and said it should not have happened. Most of the bathroom was reasonable clean, except for the mould on the tiles around the shower. Toiletries provided were shower gel, shampoo and body lotion. Buffet Breakfast was adequate, good selection of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit salad, breads and croissants. Cold foods included cheese, two types of cold meats, tomatoes, olives, boiled eggs and pickles. Hot breakfast was made to order. First morning we had a cheese, ham and mushroom omelet, it was ok, not the best I have had, second morning I had the porridge served with fruit compote, the porridge was watery and tasteless and the fruit compote on the sour side. Decided that the buffet breakfast might be a safer option on the third day. On our last day we had the bacon and poached eggs, the eggs were over poached, almost like hard boiled eggs. Service was average, one morning we asked for a pot of green tea a pot of English breakfast was brought out instead, when we asked the asian waiter if we could have a green tea, he removed the pot of English breakfast tea and returned with a pot of hot water and two green tea bags and plonked them on the table and said he didn't know how we wanted our tea. Really, not that hard, open the tea bag sachets and put the tea bags in the pot. On another morning some of our order was not brought out, figured it was not worth saying anything as most of the wait staff clearly did not want to be there, with the exception of an elder gentleman with a moustache who was only there on one morning. This gentleman was polite and very efficient, he went from table to table ensuring that everyone's orders had been taken and when not serving he was busy ensuring that plates were been cleared and that everyone was happy with their breakfast. Hotel was in a good location, it was around 20 to 25 min walk from the city centre, short walk to the bus stop, restaurants, cafés and shops. In many cases one can overlook the short comings of the hotel if there is good customer service, unfortunately this was not the case.

« Great position for visiting the Fringe »

We have been visiting the Fringe in Edinburgh for the past 20 years and have to say this was the best place we have stayed in! The position of the hotel is perfect as you are only a short walk through the parks to the City Centre. The room was just lovely, comfortable and spacious with excellent facilities. Breakfast had all you could want from a great selection of fresh fruit, yogurts and breads through to a varied selection of cooked food. We really would recommend this Hotel and will definitely be returning for another stay.

    « Honest review »

Stayed there for 3 nights in August. The hotel is a good 20min walk from the city centre but there is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill that will take you in to. Bus no 11 or 16. The hotel itself is very tired indeed and is badly in need of a refurbishment. The first room we were given 212 faced onto the road which was quite noisy when you had to leave the windows open as it was so hot. So no sleep that night. We asked to be moved and we were given room 209 the next day. This room was to the side of the hotel and a lot quieter but still so hot and stuffy. They do supply fans in the room which is something. Upon check in we were told breakfast was 7-9am which I thought was early but the second morning we found out it was 7-10am. The bar and restaurant is more modern and they have a nice patio area just outside the restaurant doors. Food was good and staff very friendly. The biggest issue for me was using a visa debit card. They ask for a copy of the card which is fair enough but what they did not tell me was that they pre approved the full stay * 510 an extra 25 pounds in the card. When we checked out we split the bill between us and I asked about the pre approved amount and was told that they would be immediately deleted and funds available on my card. Not so 2 days home and I am still waiting. They gave assured me that they have sorted this in their side and that they have discontinued this practice!! Overall it's not a bad hotel could not say that people should not stay there but it is in a poor state and really needs a new lease of life. Reasons to stay- friendly staff, good breakfast, on bus route. Reasons not to stay- run down, rooms so hot, a good 20 minute walk to the city.

    « Good stay »

Just back from a 3 day stay at the Best Western in Bluntsfield, Edinburgh. This hotel is a good 20 mins walk from the city centre and that is if you are a strong walker. You also have the choice of getting the bus no 11 or 16 into town. The bus stop is about 5 min walk after you turn left leaving the hotel down the hill on the same side. The hotel is graded as a 3 star and if that is based on the building itself then this is correct. It's tired, scruffy and the bedrooms really needs a make over. The bar and restaurant are more modern. The food is also quite good with a really good breakfast buffet. The rooms were quite stuffy as no air.con. We were first given room 212 but this room is facing the front and with single glaze Windows you just could not sleep there. However we asked to be moved and that was done the next day. Bathrooms small but very clean but no shower hats supplied so bring your own. Staff all around the hotel very professional and very helpful although we were told on check in breakfast was 7-9 but it was actually 7-10. Overall we enjoined our stay and would recommend it if you are ok with the walk into the city.

We stopped at the Bruntsfield for 2 nights on our way home , we were impressed with the room and the comfort. The meals were well cooked and at breakfast the lovely waitress 'Dorrie' I think that was her name, went well above her normal duties. Very friendly and helpful. We will be stopping at this hotel next time we visit Edinburgh.

    « Comfortable & Friendly »

My first time to Scotland/Edinburgh and I wanted to stay in a hotel that I knew would have standards, not been disappointed with my stay. If your happy to walk 15-20mins to the main touristy parts of Edinburgh i.e. the castle then this hotel is fine. I stayed in a basic double room, my view wasn't much but I only wanted the room for a bed & bath, to which was good; comfortable & clean. The staff are friendly and always happy to help, if they don't know something they will find the answer for you. As a solo traveler I would definitely recommend and be back.

Used this hotel for one night stay. Situated in a very nice part of Edinburgh. Smallish but comfortable room with very comfortable bed so got a good nights sleep. Breakfast which was included in the price was excellent. Staff were great, especially as I left a camera behind after I left - I was able to retrieve it later with the help of the front desk. The hotel is a little way out of the city centre but its not difficult to get into town.

Very nice hotel a bit from town center, but still in walking distance. Everything was fine, the wifi was little fuzzy to use though. One must register for 72 hours use, but when you reconnect within 72 hours, you need to run the registration process through E-mail agian, this was a little anoing. And If i should wish for more it should be a fitnes room.

    « Anniversary Surprise »

My husband booked the hotel as a surprise over night stay as we were going to see Stereophonics at the castle. Long walk from train station, took about 40 minutes. Hotel appeared really nice as you walked up the bank. Check in was great & room was ready early. Reception staff friendly. Room was on 2nd floor over looking little terrace & we could see the castle. Room was a decent size with a large bed that was 2 singles pushed together. Once we checked in reception told us a quicker way to get to The Royal Mile which was over 2 large grass areas. Pleasant weak &I only took bout 15 minutes which was a lot better. Breakfast was really nice with a nice variety or fruits, cereals & pastries. Overall we had a lovely stay at the hotel my only fault would be the distance from the train station & main areas to the hotel.

Excellent hotel with very kind and helpful staff The room was large and comfortable and kept to a very high standard of cleanliness. « Good visit, average breakfast »

We stopped here for two nights on our weeklong trip through Scotland. The hotel has a charme to it, coming from dated (in the best sense) architecture. The first floor is a bit of a maze, but the signs lead you to your room. Our room was decently sized, with a generous bathroom a half floor downstairs. The neighbours TV was easy to hear (but cannot tell how loudly they were listenijg). Breakfast buffet was rather average.

« Good hotel but don't stay at the front! »

Have just returned from lovely 4 night stay at this hotel. Good location - approx 20 minute walk to city centre. Staff all very polite and helpful. Breakfast was fabulous and the one dinner we ate in restaurant was also very good. (Edinburgh is absolutely full of places to eat so you don't have to eat in hotel). Lovely and clean throughout hotel and our room and bed were very comfy. Only negative was that we were at front of hotel and as it is situated on a very busy main road, there was a lot of noise from traffic - buses and lorries until very late at night. Don't stay at the front if you are after peace and quiet!

    4
    « My 7days stay. »

The room that i shared with a buddy was spacious and with wide window opennings fronting the main road leading to the city center and facing a big park suitable for early morning walk. The room as well the bathroom amenities were ample. The breakfast menu can be from the kitchen as a choice or from the set. Various choice of coffee from the coffee maker.

Lovely hotel on the edge of the city. Just a 5 minute bus ride away. Rooms clean and well equipped. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Staff also let us use their car park on the day we checked out til mid afternoon which saved us a fortune on city centre parking!

« Nice Hotel experience in a brilliant city »

Well appointed, great location, good service, clean and well operated. Just outside the bustle of the central city while close enough to be very convenient accessibility-wise. Nice staff, good amenities and generally pleasant and value effective. No worries!

« Great hotel for resonable price »

Food and accommodations were excellent. Location does require about a 10minute walk to main area of Edinburgh, but reasonable price and the food/accommodations make up for the nominal distance. Staff all friendly and interesting in being helpful. Would recommend if you don't mind not being right in center of main tourism (I prefer, less crowded/noisy).

« Beautiful four night stay »

We stayed in the Bruntsfield for four nights whilst accompanying a group of choristers staying locally. Hotel was spotlessly clean, decor tasteful. The two rooms we booked were next door to each other, perfect when there's a boy who visits from room to room!! My room was beautiful- loved the boutique still decor. Room was cleaned perfectly. Staff friendly, lovely to go away and people speak. It makes all the difference. Breakfast was excellent.. Great choice of cereals, fruit, breads and hot food couldn't be faulted. Would certainly return here again!

    « Very good quality »

A little out of the city but opposite an open park on a bus route, this hotel offers high standards in room quality, cleanliness, quality of the food and helpful staff all at a reasonable price. The room was a little warm but that's a minor problem in summer!

    4
« Home away from home »

Peaceful, tastefully decorated and well located. Memorable butter biscuits and tea for guests in the spacious homey lobby. A bit pricey but well worth it. Breakfast Scottish style: sweet beans, eggs... Bike path across the street, would suggest bikes be available to guests.

« Pleasant smart comfortable & convenient with free car park »

Attractive period building located in pleasant Bruntsfield area. Nice choice of nearby restaurants shops coffee bars & wine bars in walking distance to hotel, also close to Tolcross & on 5min bus ride to Princess Street. Hotel itself is smart inviting & clean with customer focused staff. Bedrooms I understand vary in size although mine - facing onto the pleasent aspect of Bruntsfield green - was spacious & comfortable, bathroom too was a decent size & a bath in which you could actually stretch out, bed was comfy too. Quite a bit a of traffic noise so if you're a light sleeper could consider a less attractive bedroom at rear of hotel. Cannot comment on restaurant meal as preferring to eat out but did have breakfast which was fairly standard & unremarkable. Free car parking in hotel car park - that's a bonus for Edinburgh.

« Make sure you get a room with a shower...the bath shower is terrible »

If you want a cold shower curtain on your bottom during your shower just take a room with a shower in the bath tub. It was not pleasant. Otherwise, the hotel is pretty typical...breakfast is OK. We won't stay there again, but once was OK.

« Good location, good breakfast, small bedroom »

As a four star hotel the reception and approach is impressive, it is a well established hotel. I arrived late at night and had booked a standard room. The bed was comfortable , the room clean, fresh towels and a clean bathroom. The room was however in need of some refurbishment and a little tired, and the shower in the bathroom had a slightly dodgy thermostat but otherwise ok. The breakfast was included in the booking and was standard fare for what you pay. Overall a very good hotel and well placed for getting out and about. It is about a 20 minute walk to the Royal Mile and the visitor attractions.

Spacious room with all amenities plus a sitting area & a nice view Hotel has onsite parking and a lovely bar / restaurant Breakfast was fab, lots of choices & everything fresh & tasty Staff very helpful, hotel itself one of those gorgeous old buildings that Edinburgh has lots of If I had to be picky I'd say it's time to redecorate, needs a wee bit of a freshen up

« Nice staff but far too hot to be comfortable »

The hotel look gorgeous from the outside and is welcoming. After a small hiccup with the reception staff not reserving the wheelchair accessible room as requested, I was given a very nice family room with the option to move the following day. The room was pleasant and plenty big enough. I could get in the bathroom but the bath proved a challenge too far. However the biggest problem was the temperature of the room, it was boiling. The heating wasn't on and the window was open but it was far too hot to be comfortable. There was a huge floor fan in the room so I had the feeling it wasn't a new issue. We ate in the bar that evening and the food and service was very good and reasonable priced. Despite leaving the window open and the fan on all night, I hardly got a winks sleep and woke sweating many times with no quilt in sight. Would I stop there again, well I would definitely eat there, but my two colleagues suffered the same issue with heat In their rooms, so I would have to say, not, but if you like a hot room, then this will be perfect for you.

« Good base for exploring Edinburgh »

Hotel is a 20 minute brisk walk from the centre or catch a bus from just outside the hotel. We had a very comfortable room of a generous size with bath and separate shower. Great beds so a good nights sleep. The hotel was quiet at night one of the benefits of being slightly away from central Edinburgh. Parking on site. We ate in the restaurant one night the food was better than the average offering for this chain and the surroundings modern bistro style. Breakfasts were good and portions generous. I requested gluten and lacto free food prior to my visit and this was provided. ??

    « Great stay »

I stayed two nights in business. The room was clean and comfortable. Although the hallway outside the room was dated decor-wise, the room was furnished in a contemporary style. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I asked to borrow an iron and one was brought up to the room in minutes, along with an ironing board. As I was busy and tired I ate in the restaurant the first evening of my stay. The food was excellent - easily the best meal out I had had in a very long time. It was so good that I ate in the hotel again on the second night - again another perfect meal. The breakfast was of a very high quality. Two waiting staff stood out in terms of customer service: Jean at breakfast and Rasa at breakfast and dinner - thank you. I would be very happy to stay here again either for business or leisure

« Pleasant hotel with on site parking in easy walking distance of many attractions. »

We stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the location in a very upmarket area of Edinburgh. For the price paid the hotel was slightly disappointing - the decor was a bit dull, furniture in the room not very comfortable. We were in room 202 which was a rather irregular shape and thus not greatly spacious or attractive. The lighting was not good. The worst feature was the noise from the next room - the TV was surely on the other side of what must have been a very thin wall as one could easily follow what film or whatever the occupants were watching late into the night! This was a feature of all 4 nights of our stay so unlikely to be caused by just one aurally challenged guest, but rather evidence of poor soundproofing.

« Not you typical Best Western experience! »

In the US, Best Western is a mid-range motel experience--and sometimes worse! But this is a quality property, very elegant, great service and it a perfect location for exploring as it is walking distance from the Royal Mile and just across the street from the Meadows and environs. We had a very nice room, complete with coffee/tea, etc. We didn't sample the restaurant, but there is a full-service bar and dining area, too.

    « lovely stay »

Stayed here on business. Great location. My room was at the front of the hotel so it is on the main road so a little noisy. Rooms were lovely though, very comfortable bed, plenty of room. Handy for city and surrounding areas. Breakfast was first class, they cook you a cooked breakfast fresh. Much better than buffet style that other places do. Overall a very nice stay. City prices, alcohol quite expensive.

My wife and I celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary and first trip to Scotland and had a wonderful stay at the bruntsfield Hotel, all staff were amazing, being friendly and courteous at all times. The hotel is clean and tidy throughout, with coffee and shortbread available in the foyer, the food and service is fantastic, and probably the best breakfast we have had on any of our travels, cooked fresh, with a wide selection available. We also ate in the restaurant and can recommend the gourmet burgers. Wonderful waiters and bar staff, we cannot praise them enough. Our room was a beautiful four poster superior double, beautiful quality bed linen and fluffy towels and robes etc. We will defiantly return to this fantastic hotel, a great location and everything you desire for a memorable trip to Scotland's capital

« Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Break »

Just returned from 2 nights at the Bruntsfield, I had read some good reviews on the place so hope were high and we weren't disappointed. We pulled up about 3.00pm on Thursday and got a parking space right at the front of the hotel, staff on reception really helpful and a speedy check in. we had room 122, right at the front on the 1st floor, a good sized room, enormous bed, décor was tasteful and really quiet. We decided to walk into Edinburgh and the staff on reception kindly gave us a local map with the walk highlighted, a mere 10 mins later we were stood on Princess Street so positioning of the hotel is ideal. After a good stroll round the shops and Golden Mile, we headed to Rose Street to sample a few bars and headed back to a gorgeous Thai Restaurant close to the hotel Thai Lemon Grass (see separate review). Breakfast is a buffet starter with masses of choice followed by various hot options, the food was hot, tasty and plentiful, so a good way to start the day with loads of staff on hand so no waiting for food or tea/coffee. Fast and efficient check out as we left on the Sat morning with all staff helpful and pleasant. If we do return to Edinburgh we will definitely return to the Bruntsfield and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

« Nice hotel at a good price »

Very nice hotel at a good price. About 15-20 minute walk to the Royal Mile if you take the walking path through the park. Plenty of restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel. Free parking but very few places to park. We parked and left the car there, walked everywhere. On premise restaurant with good food although there are better options for breakfast.

« Lovely hotel with super staff »

I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights whilst attending a conference at the EICC. I arrived about 1400 and was able to check in immediately. I was very politely greeted by the receptionists. Overall the staff were great, friendly and helpful. My room was on the first floor. It was a lovely room with big windows that acted like a greenhouse, trapping all the warmth from the sun. The room had a wardrobe, safe, two easy chairs, two bedside tables, large bed, desk and TV. Coffee and tea were supplied. Wifi in the hotel was good, reliable and reasonably fast for emails, accessing websites and downloading my daily newspaper. The bathroom was small but perfectly adequate. However, it always took a minute or two for hot water to come out of the shower. Toiletries were very pleasant though tended to be changed daily even if only a small amount had been used. My room was at the front of the hotel and had a pleasant view towards a park. There was no noise from traffic on the road outside - the curtains were thick and reduced any noise and light. Buffet breakfasts were excellent with plenty of variety. Although the hotel information stated breakfast opened at 0700, I found they were always ready earlier and did not mind people starting their breakfast before 0700. I had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on the first morning which was good. On subsequent days I had a ham and cheese omelette which was lovely. The hotel is well located for visiting the main sites of Edinburgh, being 30 minutes walk from the castle, and 15 minutes from the EICC. There are plenty of restaurants nearby such as the Thai Lemongrass which is only a 100m walk. The hotel restaurant itself is good. I had no problems during my stay except on Sunday when my coffee was not replenished. I would certainly stay at this hotel again if I was in the area.

    « Best Western Bruntsfield »

This hotel is ideal for walking into Edinburgh, across the Meadows, or up to Morningside. Great location and generally well placed...good views of Castle from some rooms. Food good especially breakfasts...probably best we have ever had. Lounges and bar very comfortable. Dining room good but sometimes a wee bit busy with breakfasts, however very good service.

    « Loved the location »

Great location if you like to stay a little way outside of the city centre and walk in - about 15 mins through The Meadows (a lovely green, communal area). Bus routes are great and the hotel is happy to organise taxis. We walked the 10/15 minutes to Haymarket to pick up the tram service direct to the airport. Hotel room was very spacious. Slightly noisy in the morning - woken by a delivery lorry unloading in the side street next to us...but these things happen in a city. :-) Lovely atmosphere in the hotel with friendly, yet efficient and professional staff.

    « Nice hotel »

Check in took a lot of time. But after checking in it was a good experience. Room was clean and good prepared (soft towels, all kind of soaps, and coffee/tee on the hotelroom). Service is ok. Don't forget your that your electric stuff needs a special plug. I had to ask at the helpdesk for one and got it Immediately. Breakfast is okay!!! A very friendly lady served a very well scrambled egg with bacon and sausage. I'll come back when I go again to Edinburgh.

« Excellent hotel, staff went above and beyond »

Myself and my partner have nothing but praise for this hotel especially Janis who was working on reception when we arrived. We were in Edinburgh for my partners 40th birthday. The hotel we originally booked (Capital Residence) was a disgrace and we walked out. Explained what had happened and Janis upgraded us free of charge, even showed us to our room. The room was large, bright, clean, absolutely fantastic! We had our evening meal in the restaurant and the staff there were so friendly and the food was lush! Breakfast was so tasty as well and no waiting around for it. Would definitely go back to this hotel was fantastic. Also nice walking distance to the shops in Edinburgh.

« Good location to see the sites of Edinburgh »

Great location to visit the sites of Edinburgh. In walking distance of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the meadows and Grass market. Quite location and helpful staff. A beautiful city, and great hotel.

« Terrific!!! Great hotel! Very clean! Great location, short walk everywhere. »

This hotel is walking distance to everything, with a lovely walking park across the street for people who prefer going for a short stroll. It is clean, staff are great. The hotel room is very clean, house keeping are great! I would stay again and again. The restaurant attached has fantastic food- although prices at a little steep, well worth it.

    « Good stay »

We had a ground floor room for two nights which was very comfortable and spacious however it was quite noisey after the restaurant closed as we must have been above the kitchens. This was only noticeable because we had to get an early night as we had to make an early start on our first morning. It did quieten down. One thing that I found strange was that there was no shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom and I had to ask at reception. I would have thought that this was put in the bathroom as standard. The breakfast was excellent. A very good choice of cold and hot food and the poached eggs were perfect!! We both thought it was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had. We ate the the hotel on our first night and enjoyed our meal. We tried to book a room for our trip later in the month but it was full. We were disappointed but we will definitely return. The staff were friendly and helpful.

« Family Trip to Edinburgh »

Excellent value for money for an outstanding hotel in a great part of Edinburgh - Bruntsfield. This area offers you walking distance to the sights of Edinburgh castle, the Royal Mile etc. but in the cool laidback of Bruntsfield. This area offers an amazing choice of restaurants, bars etc. at really competitive rates without blowing the budget.

    « DISAPPOINTED THIS TIME »

This is my 3rd visit and I have always been happy here but not this time, I booked into an executive room this time ( an upgrade to my normal one I THOUGHT ) and It was not good, the carpet was filthy and I'm sorry to say this but the room was quite shabby. ( I dont think beige is an ideal colour for Hotel carpets ) but it was dirty around the room too and when I moved my bed ( my friend snores so I always move the twin beds apart ha ha ) there was a lot of dirt under it, ALL that said you can't fault the staff they are always lovely and especially the bar staff they always make everyone welcome so they give 100% every time we stay here

    4
    « Hidden Gem »

Stay here on business every time in Edinburgh. Very central and great for popping put for my runs onto the Meadows and further. The rooms are of good standard and the bar area busy and great value for money. Breakfast is great and plenty to eat. It's that good I return with the wife and family as well. I'm made to feel very welcome every time I visit. The best Best Western in Edinburgh by a mile

    « Great Hotel Staff »

Recently I stayed at this hotel for a business trip. Unfortunately, I left something behind in the hotel. The staff (especially Chris) were very honest and posted my belongings back to me in the States. I was happy with the professional and courteous manner in which they responded to my inquiry. My only complaint would be that the wifi is a little finicky. Would definitely recommend!

    « City Break »

Having had a very pleasant stay previously, we had no hesitation in 're booking this hotel. It had been some time since we had spent any sightseeing time in the capital so we decided a visit was overdue. The hotel we felt had certainly improved tho' our previous stay was good. I would say this visit was excellent. The room was very warm & welcoming Lovely to come home to after a long walk around the city. All staff encountered were delightful, always pleasant & welcoming. Breakfasts were very satisfying with plenty choice. We did not have an evening meal but there was no shortage of people venturing in to dine. The room offered all amenities & was very cosy & comfortable with lovely soft pillows & linen. Very acceptable after a long trek the city The hotel is situated within a reasonable walk to the city centre or jump on a passing bus. It is certainly an added bonus to have non paying car parking at the hotel tho' this can be limited in spaces. We have always been very lucky & in fact don't use the car when staying here. I would certainly recommend the Bruntsfield whilst staying in Edinburgh as we feel the cost is very competitive

« One of the best hotels I have stayed in »

After a 7 hours drive from London we were so happy to be welcomed by a friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much for them. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was so good it really set us up for the day. A really nice touch were the free homemade shortbreads in the reception area. Overall one of the best hotels I have stayed in, from start to finish.

« Sometimes things go wrong, it's how you deal with them that counts! »

We stayed here for one night in Room 231. The hotel is in a nice location around a 20 minute stroll to the city centre. The room was clean and spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable - the best night's sleep we've had in months! We had a very pleasant meal in Bisque restaurant downstairs and the waiting staff were extremely friendly and attentive (as were all the staff we encountered in Edinburgh incidentally). Unfortunately there was an issue with the boiler which meant that we had no hot water in the evening. However at check out we were informed that our bill had been adjusted to take account of the inconvenience without us even having to say a word. All the staff were great but special mention to the Bar Manager (I'm afraid we didn't get his name) who went the extra mile. Hopefully we will return to Edinburgh in the future and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

« Perfect for city break!! »

Just returned yesterday (8th April) from a 2 night b&b stay here. A perfect hotel for our needs! Lovely room (120), clean, friendly staff, comfortable, quiet and we had everything needed for our stay- hairdryer, tea tray, towels, safe. The hotel is very easy to get to from the airport and train station (see more below**) with plenty of busses going straight past the door from the centre of Edinburgh (new town), we even walked down into the old town on one day - took 20minutes. Very helpful reception staff who assisted us when arriving early - stored our bags safely whilst we went sightseeing, then again the day we left until our evening flight. As two female ladies travelling, the gentleman on reception made a conscious effort to ensure the details of our room were not announced when checking in (to the other guests) which was reassuring. Breakfast - just what you need: cereals, fresh fruits, cold meats, yoghurt, toast, as well as a cooked breakfast option! We were spoilt for choice! Plus gluten free cereals, bread and soya milk for people with intolerances which was surprising and greatly received. If you want a hotel for a city break that you use as a base this place is perfect! Will definitely return of we come back to Edinburgh!! Thank you for a great stay! **If you are on a budget for travel, the cheapest way to get into Edinburgh is to get a 35 bus from the airport and get off at the park and ride(first stop) - buy a £4 day rider ticket. This will allow you to then use the tram (into the city) and other busses all day using the same ticket, otherwise it's £5 just to get into the city before you then need to buy other bus tickets. You can then do the same journey back without paying the airport premium!

    « Great stay »

I stay in a lot of Best Western hotels on business and short breaks and I have to say this has to rank as one of the best ones I have ever stayed in. From the moment we checked in right to the time we left the staff could not be more accommodating. The rooms were great and the bed was so comfortable I would have happily brought it home with me. The breakfast is one of the best I've had and really set us up for the day. Only a 15 min walk to the city centre but situated across from a quiet little park. Another nice little touch are the free homemade shortbreads at reception. The only negative was not enough parking spaces but not that this would stop me wanting to go back again.

    « A Friendly Welcome »

I always find the staff very friendly, the rooms charming and comfortable and the food great. As an old building, the stairs and floors can be a bit creaky, but that adds to the charm. Bruntsfield is fully of bohemian cafes and restaurants.

    3
    « Not so boutique... »

We enjoyed our stay at the Bruntsfield hotel, which was very conveniently situated for all the attractions. However, we found the hotel to be tired and in need of attention in some places, with generally battered paintwork around the hotel and a very worn and frayed divan base and mould by the side of the shower screen in our room. That said, we had a comfortable night's sleep and our room was very quiet at the back of the hotel with views of the Forth in the distance.

« Excellent Value and Service - GOLD STAR :-) »

We stayed at this hotel during the Easter break to allow my wife to recouperate after an illness. All the staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all for making our stay a truly restful experience.

« Friendly staff, a warm welcome and large comfortable hotel rooms »

We stayed here for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend as we saw it on a previous visit to Edinburgh and thought it looked lovely from the outside. It is lovely on the outside and is in Bruntsfield itself overlooking a beautiful park. It's just a 15-20min walk into town so you don't need to pay for any public transport unless it's needed. (You can see the castle in the distance.) Morningside is also just down the road which has a great selection of charity shops and unique boutiques. There are a few parking spaces on sight and we were lucky enough to get one :-) Check in was easy and the staff member was very welcoming and helpful, I think her name was Ann. The check in area has comfortable seating and a sideboard with tea/coffee, apples and homemade shortbread. Our room was on the first floor. The decor of the whole hotel is traditional and the hotel is rather like a rabbit warren with many rooms. However do not be put off as there is plenty of signage and a vast array of room types. The rooms have large lovely doors and our room was one of the standard King rooms. However for the price you pay for bed and breakfast it is a bargain. The bed was extremely comfortable and the high ceilings really made the room feel homely. The bathroom could do with an update as the shower is in the bath and attached to the bath taps and it feels a bit dated but other than that the room as a whole is lovely. It has lots of nooks and crannies to store your clothes etc. There are tea/coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. The breakfast choices are great with options such as toast, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, a cooked breakfast, hams and cheeses. It's an all you can eat breakfast as well so it keeps you going through till after lunchtime. Thankyou for a lovely stay and we hope to be back sometime soon. :-)

Booked last minute arrived late and were met by the lovely Amber on reception who was just delightful couldn't do enough to help us. Had the most amazing room huge bed on the ground floor suitable in every way for a disabled person should that be necessary. We took a short stroll in the evening and found a fabulous Bistro called the Blackbird so worth a visit. Slept very well and then had the best breakfast in Scotland. Freshly cooked and brought to you by a lovely waitress we wanted for nothing. In fact we loved it all so much we have booked in for tonight !! A real gem within a short walk of the city. We will be back.

« A well priced base in Edinburgh »

We got a good price for a few days in March. It's about half an hour to walk to town, but buses run past every 6 minutes, so it's easy anyway. The car park is smallish and busy but we found a place ok. Reception and staff in general were excellent, polite, helpful and well trained. We had asked for a quiet room, and were 'upgraded' to a 3 bed family room at the rear. Very large, very quiet with nice views North over the city. Perfect. The Hotel was last updated maybe 10 or more years hence I'd guess. Wallpaper, shower fittings, carpets were all clean, but quite well worn. The bed was huge and firm, so only 3 stars for the room...just a bit shabby. Face lift time in our opinion. The food was mixed. Breakfast would be hard to fault, especially if you like to consider health over taste. I have rarely eaten a boiled sausage before (later wafted near a flame for effect I'd guess) and shan't do so again. Fried egg shouldn't be hard yolked and potato cakes not cold. However the choice of fruits, cereals, drinks, Yoghurts, savouries and etc was huge and all seemed fresh. Immaculate service calmed my nerves (after that sausage)! Less wonderful was the simple meal we had at supper time the next day. The room had just one other diner. I can't reccomend you eat there in the evening. I ordered a steak burger and received a puddle of grey, wet, finely minced something that had the texture of lightly boiled cotton wool with a sniff of beef essence. I'm sorry to be so negative, but it was possibly the worst thing I have ever eaten. Hence the 3 strs above. Avoid the food and it's 3 and a half. Refresh the decor and it's 4. At the prices we paid, maybe 4.5. Hey, Bruntsfield. Send your chef off on a good cookery course please.

« Exceptional service in a quality hotel »

Wonderful service and genuine attention to customer satisfaction for a few days stay and a family meal (25+kids) on one of the nights. Excellent rooms. Excellent breakfasts. Good evening food well prepared and kids catered nicely for. Head Waiter on the Friday evening was a credit to the hotel and impressed our extended family no end. Hotel is in a nice area to just walk around (lots of coffee shops, etc), and only a 20min walk to the west end of Princess St etc, and as Edinburgh has lots of reasonably priced taxis about you can always walk in to the centre & taxi back. We will most definitely use the Bruntsfield again!

« Three day break in a beautiful Hotel in a lovely part of Edinburgh. »

Hotel is superbly appointed. Room very nice and spacious and comfortable. The Staff are excellent. Food quality was very good. As someone who has Coeliac Disease I was delighted that there were gluten free options available. About a 20 minute walk through "The Meadows" opposite the Hotel, to the City Centre where you can visit the Castle, The Museums etc. Holyrood House is beautiful and a must for visitors. We visited the Scottish Parliament and sat in the Public Gallery and watched a debate. A bus ride to Leith and a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia is also a must. We would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

« An average eating experience - Bruntsfield Bisque restaurant »

This was a quite bland eating experience in more ways than one. The staff, although pleasant, weren't as attentive as they could be - it could take a while to flag one down and after waiting 35 minutes for the food order to materialise to table, two of the orders were wrong. The waiter, rather than apologise immediately, pulled out his order pad to check what was written down, thereby insinuating that we were wrong. That annoyed me. All bar one of us just happened to want burgers of various types. Mine was clearly homemade, but, although succulent, was tasteless. A real disappointment. Beware your teeth with the top of the Creme Brulee too. The burnt crunchy top is the bit I adore, but even I had trouble with it as it was quite thick. Tasty as it was, it overwhelmed the underlying "creme". Another thing I noticed that could be misconstrued I understand, is that the waiter came frequently lift the wine bottles and just fill up glasses on the table. If you were in conversation with others, you didn't always get a chance to say no thanks! Overall, this was a disappointing meal out.

« Gem of a Hotel in Great Edinburgh Neighborhood »

I recently stayed here to visit my son who is studying in Edinburgh for the Spring semester. The hotel is beautiful, the room nicely appointed and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location-lots of shops and cafes/restaurants, as well as a renovated old movie theater and a small grocery store within a 10 minute walk. Beautiful park is right across the street-on a rare sunny Sunday it was filled with walkers/runners and people just enjoying the beautiful (although chilly) day. It's about a 15 minute walk to city center, although there are some bus stops not too far down the road. We didn't use them that much (my son wasn't that familiar with them), but I'm pretty sure you can take one of them to get to the tourist area. It's nice that this hotel is not in the middle of the touristy area. There are some really nice dining options and not too expensive (depending on where you go). I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh-you are close enough to all of the "action" without being in the middle of it all.

Loved This hotel for location just a 10 minute walk to castle and the old town . Lovely modern room with excellent breakfast and nice bar .free carparking . We stayed 3 night's and never used the car once. The castle by the way took us 4 1/2 hours to get round so go early. Greyfriars Bobby is excellent food and right next to museum of Scotland. All hotel staff very attentive

« Nice and straightforward stay »

I stayed here for one night on my own and had a very pleasant stay. I didn't get to make use of many of the facilities as I only arrived about 8pm and left at 8.30am to go to Edinburgh Capital Sci-Fi Con the next day. Everything I did see, however, was very clean and the bar and bistro which adjoins the hotel seemed very nice when I went down to get a drink to take up to my room. Staff were all very nice.

Stayed here mid week for two nights. Had a problem with the heating- sorted out promptly and also with no water pressure in the shower on the last morning. The room was clean and spacious. What particularly struck me was the restaurant, I only ate dinner there, but chose to go back on the second evening because I had enjoyed it so much. There was a good selection of local dishes and the team that work in the restaurant were friendly and I received excellent service, but not in an obtrusive manner.

« Visiting our daughter studying abroad at University of Edinburgh »

Great location, close to the University flat where our daughter is living while studying abroad. Great staff. Easy to walk to shops in Bruntsfield and easy to retrieve cabs when needed. Walked a lot; bought a scarf and hat from a street vendor not realizing just how cold it is in Edinburgh. Awesome trip.

    « Beautiful Hotel »

My husband and I stayed here while we enjoyed a city break. It's in perfect walking distance for all the sites of this beautiful city. The hotel is lovely from the outside and the room are very clean and comfortable and a great size. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, extremely helpful and always willing to go above and beyond. We would highly recommend this hotel and thank you for making our stay so memorable.

    « Excellent »

Stayed here for the weekend with my husband and son. The room was lovely, and staff were excellent. It was a little bit further from the city centre than I thought when booking but there are buses every few minutes to the city centre. I will definately be staying here again

« A must place to stay when visiting Edinbugh »

The Brunsfield Hotel is a perfect place to base any stay in Edinburgh. Everything in the hotel, rooms, food and staff is excellent. A very good bus service stops nearby, which apart from visiting to the city centre, is perfect for a trip to Leith for seeing the former Britannia royal yacht. We were so pleased with our stay that we have rebooked again!

    « A real Gem. »

Myself and my friend stayed last Saturday night - it was a birthday treat and it was some treat. There was nothing at all that could be faulted. Staff are obliging, attentive and friendly and our rooms, which were spotless, we're ready when we arrived at midday. I was in room 131 and the bed was so comfortable, I almost missed breakfast! I wouldn't advise you to miss breakfast tho, as it's a treat in itself. There is a great choice of cold and hot, and my poached eggs were perfect. There's a good ambiance in the bar and bar meals are also well worth a try. I'll certainly be back.

    « Highly recommended »

This was my first visit to The Bruntsfield Hotel and it won't be my last. I was very impressed with all aspects of the hotel and found the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well situated and if you're active, is within walking distance of The Grassmarket, The Royal Mile and Castle. I'd highly recommend this hotel.

« WOULDN'T STAY ANYWHERE ELSE NOW IN EDINBURGH »

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here and the 3rd time for my friend and we wouldn't go anywhere else now. The hotel is spotless, the staff are really nice and very efficient, the bar is so cosy and inviting. The head man in the restaurant had a face like fizz the first time we ate there although the waiters were lovely and we were shoved to a table at the side just inside the door and away from everyone else we didn't like it so we didn't eat there this time. The bar is nice to eat in and the breakfast is really lovely. The rooms I have been in are nice and the beds are amazing what a great nights sleep. I also love that they have a fan in every room which can be great in the summer months. All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone without worrying if they would like it or not. I will be back again soon.

    « Very Comfortable . Great breakfasts »

We stayed here for 3 nights . Our room had a strange layout and it overlooked the entrance but despite being on a busy main road the noise was not a problem. The bed was very comfortable. The decor was a little dated but it was spotlessly clean with very good facilities and a good range of extras. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return.

    « I love staying here »

I had two nights at the Bruntsfield while in Edinburgh for a family birthday celebration. When booking online I asked if I could have a room which wouldn't involve too much walking to get to and from it. I was given a lovely room on the ground floor, just a few yards from Reception. The room was very clean and well furnished; indeed it looked as if it had been refurbished quite recently. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast (which I had ordered while booking - much cheaper) was excellent. I didn't have other meals apart from a sandwich from Room Service, which was good too. The Bruntsfield is in a lovely part of Edinburgh and there is a bus stop close by for getting into town. I would recommend it, and, for Edinburgh prices, it was not too expensive.

    « luxury in Edinburgh. »

The Bruntsfield Hotel is always our first choice when in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff efficient, polite and unobtrusive. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Breakfast options are excellent and the bar quiet and comfortable. A two or three day break hereis as good as a major holiday.......... always a pleasure.

Wonderful hotel with traditional values. Staff obviously proud of the hotel and the city and very helpful. Stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and food superb. Jean in the restaurant is a credit to the company

    « Quick Break »

Spent two nights here, the staff were very good, from reception, dining room and the bar. The hotel is in a great position surrounded by walks, restaurants and interesting places to visit, our room was spotless and very large, along with the en suite. Also on site was easy free parking. One downside was that, from two o'clock in the morning, the guy in the room either above or next room was up every two minutes coughing couldn't work out if it was above us or next room.He then proceeded to use the toilet and flush it,the cistern seemed to take an age to fill, could also hear everything he was doing on the toilet, which turns your stomach. Got to say we were on a deal,so we might have been put in a room that they had left over, also add i understand that it wasn't the hotels fault, maybe needs more soundproofing. That aside we will stop again.

« Nephews christening family meal »

Very nice restaurant in this hotel went there for my nephews christening meal there was about 15 of us so not too many to cope with it was a Sunday afternoon When we arrived the restaurant was not busy at all The waitress came over to ask if we would like a drink @ that point I asked for a drinks menu which I thought was odd that we didn't get one ! When asking did they serve bitter / ale she didn't know what I was asking for ! Drinks over we then ordered our food a few of us had a stater I had the carrot / coriander soup with bread was very nice but my hubby ordered a pawn cocktail which the forgot to bring when I asked they were like oh I forgot I will bring it . It never came as then the mains came out so we then told them to forget the stater not very good really !! For mains I had the fish & chips was ok but not very hot & a very small fish !! I then noticed the waiters were not very attentive in coming over to see if we needed any more drinks etc & when we did catch there eye to call them over to order some more drinks they wrote it down but then came bk with only 1/2 drinks they forgot our other drinks & they never bothered to take the empty glasses very annoying !!! Then came dessert to which she said do you want desert lol well yes we would like to see the dessert menu ! So that then came & most of us ordered dessert . Once again they forgot mine & my husband weird !! Then they bought it up was ok nothing special I had sticky toffee pudding / ice cream I did notice that all the others had posh plates think they must have run out as we both had plain white plates !! My husband had Lemon tart he said it tasted nothing like lemon was very disappointing !!! For this type of hotel & knowing we were a party of 15 the service was not very good at all Not sure if I would go back there again it was like they couldn't be bothered !!!

Lovely Hotel, nice and handy with parking, and bus stops close by. Stayed for 2 nights mid week bed and breakfast. No complaints, staff were all nice and pleasant. Breakfast was very nice, but we did not try the evening menu.

    « Second visit »

I had stayed in this hotel a couple of years back with my partner, but never thought to publish a review. I really can't fault this place except for its lack of parking but there's loads of cheap parking on the road right outside. Lovely hotel, only 20 minutes walk from the centre and with views over the park to the front. Fantastic restaurant for evening meal and breakfast with very attentive staff throughout. I will most certainly be staying again.

    « Fabulous welcome »

Stayed here for two nights in a standard twin room. The hotel is a good old fashioned type of hotel. A little dated but that adds to the character. As soon as we arrived the reception staff were welcoming and very helpful. There were no parking spaces left but the receptionist didn't hesitate to give up her space and stood guard of it until we were parked. All the staff were so friendly. Room was big for a standard and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was cooked to order and it made such a change for everything to come out hot. Ate in the restaurant on the second night and the food was lovely. Reasonably priced as well. The hotel is s good 15 min walk to the centre and all attractions which makes it an ideal spot. I would definitely stay again.

    « Birthday Celebration »

My partner was celebrating her Birthday, so as a special treat, I booked this Hotel. I got a very good deal on a Double Superior room with Bed and Breakfast included in the price. On entering the room, I was very surprised at how spacious it was and the size of the bed, this must have been a super king size, as you could have fitted at least 4 people in it without being squashed. We wandered into town to sample some of the local culture and take in a few Bars ... the locals were all welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. The amenities at the hotel are first class and cannot be faulted in ant way, shape or form. We had our breakfast in the Brasserie Restaurant and I had the Scottish Grill which included Haggis, This was delicious and there was that much on the plate, that I had to leave some of the food, as I was that full. I Highly recommend this hotel to ant traveller who wishes to stay in Edinburgh as all the historic sites and attractions are close by.

    « Wonderful hotel »

We stayed for a weekend visit. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were all very friendly and did all they could to make our visit as good as possible. The breakfasts were really excellent , especially the haggis! The location is perfect with some nice bars and restaurants nearby and is an easy walk into the city centre. I would really recommend this hotel to other visitors, it is also reasonably priced especially if booked directly with the hotel. We can't wait to return and we won't entertain the idea of staying anywhere else...maybe at a better time of year as the one thing that didn't get sorted was the weather!!

    5
« Great value city stay »

Great price for a great hotel. 20 minutes from the city centre by bus which was easy to get from Waverley station. The room was stunning! Lovely four poster bed, clean and tidy. Plenty of tea and coffee. The breakfast was amazing, loads of choice from the buffet and a delicious cooked option made to order. I took the bus to the centre but it's easily walkable in better weather. Defiantly be staying here again on my next visit. Read other reviews about poor wifi but I had no issues and it was a good service

    « Very comfortable night »

My wife and I were here for just one night, ideally placed near to the University, where we wanted to be! We had a most comfortable room facing The Meadows, and had a very good breakfast the following morning.

« The warmest of welcomes »

Nothing better than to be warmly welcomed on arrival and in The Bruntsfield there was a genuine effort by the staff to ensure our check in was seamless and we were fully informed of the restaurant location and availability. Every member of staff we encountered excelled in their role from Ian the assistant manager to Jeannie at breakfast. Our thanks to them and all members of staff whose name we failed to observe but who all played a role in ensuring our short break was like staying with friends. Congratulations to you all. Mary Sharp.

« Hogmanay Stay - Great Vegan Food »

My wife and I stayed for two nights over New Years including meals at the restaurant, and my wife who is vegan really appreciated the options they provided to her. The chef had gone to good lengths to plan and cook something that wasn't just a token gesture, but a really nice set of dishes. Many thanks!

    « Very comfortable »

One night stay to go to Kings Theatre. Good price and we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the standard room allocated. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Good breakfast options. Well situated - easy access to town centre but Bruntsfield / Morningside area interesting in themselves. Will definitely return in future.

« Nice hotel in a good location »

I stayed at this hotel for one night to attend a dinner in the centre of Edinburgh. Whilst the furniture in the room was maybe a little bit dated, the room itself was a very good size and the bed was massive. The hotel was about a 15-20 walk from Haymarket station and slightly longer to the centre of the city. Whilst it is in a fairly busy road, it seemed peaceful, the staff were exceptionally friendly and the hotel provided a good location to explore the city. I would have no hesitation returning to this hotel, hopefully for a bit longer the next time.

« Great hotel close to theatre »

On arriving greeted with professionalism from checking in staff. Arrived at bedroom and received telephone call to make sure room was OK> Excellent point. Had dinner in Brasserie, excellent, Service very good most enjoyable to be able to eat food which is not nouvelle cuisine, just plain British cooking. Good nights sleep in a most comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast to set us on our way. Well done Bruntsfield

« Five nights in Edinburgh »

Hotel ideally placed with free parking, a plus in Edinburgh. Easy access to bus routes. Buses frequent and all priced at £1.50 per trip, or a day ticket for £4.00 - no change given! Nothing but praise for the hotel, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfasts were outstanding - plenty of choice, prompt service for a cooked meal. Dinner (dined twice) was excellent. Again plenty of choice, well presented - compliments to the chef. Would return without question. To be highly recommended. Room well decorated and furnished - no scuff marks on walls. Comfortable bed.

    « Excellent »

Stayed here for only 1 night, but would of loved to have stayed longer. This is lovely old building with mixture of traditional and contemporary décor. The beds are the biggest and most comfortable i have ever slept in . Great bar bistro is based downstairs that serves food and good selection of wines, this is also where breakfast is served, which has a vast choice of pastry, fruits cereals and cooked breakfast including haggis. This hotel is a great spot for site seeing with only a 20 min walk to the west end ,or you can catch a bus outside hotel or taxi is about £6. whether it be action packed or simply relaxing weekend you will enjoy this hotel. will definitely be back.

    « Weekend in Edinburgh »

Spent a while looking for a reasonably priced hotel for a 2 night break with my partner. We chose this hotel as it was good value and not far from the centre of Edinburgh. It takes around 20 mins to walk to town. Good service on arrival with a lovely spacious comfort room. We chose to have breakfast each morning in town. Beautiful park opposite the hotel which leads into town. The only thing we would mention is that the wifi tended to drop in and out, but it's not a big issue as we weren't in the room for long during our stay. Would recommend the hotel to others definitely.

    « HIGHLY RECOMMENDED »

Stayed here at the beginning of January 2016 for three nights. Small car park at the front of the hotel and three spaces with partial cover opposite front door. Disabled access to the right of the door, down a ramp which leads to the Bistro. Lift from here to all floors. The top step to the entrance is a little higher than the rest so be aware of this. Reception is to the right of the front door and has an area for tea/coffee, biscuits for residents through-out the day. We had a family room, at the front of the hotel, very little traffic noise, with a large bed, sofa, tv, etc. Walked through into another smaller bedroom with a single bed, then into the large bathroom. Only had breakfast at the hotel, in the Bistro area, which consisted of cold buffet and/or cooked breakfast to order. Very good quality and served promptly. All areas very clean and all staff very helpfull. Would highly recommend this hotel.

    « Exceptional »

Rescheduled our pre-Christmas break to January and loved this hotel. Lots of little extras (tea, shortbread & fruit in the lobby) cosy rooms, great breakfast and very professional friendly staff make this hotel exceptional. Ideal location if you are visiting the capital for a break.

    « Excellent hotel »

Really good hotel - located on the outskirts of Edinburgh in a quiet location. A bit further out than realised when booking - that was my fault! Very close to a bus station with very frequency buses to Princes Street. The breakfast was very good. Had the option of buffet, or cooked + buffet. Highly recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs! The staff were generally very helpful.

« Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel, highly recommended »

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at this hotel. Our standard double room was spacious and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. It was an easy 15/20 mins walk into the Centre of Edinburgh or a short bus ride - the bus services to the hotel were very frequent. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of variety and choice, and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay at this hotel again next time we venture to Edinburgh.

    « Parking and a good breakfast »

A nice hotel near the centre of Edinburgh. Parking available on site was one of the main reasons i chose this hotel. A nice bonus for me was the excellent breakfast and friendly waiting staff. I will definitely stay here again.

« Great Place to Stay. Wonderful Staff »

This is a great hotel in Edinburgh. The staff was wonderful. My mother-in-law became ill while we were there (not because of the hotel), and the staff was so kind and helpful to her. The rooms were large and clean. It was easy to walk to the major sites. One of the best parts of the hotel was the restaurant! The food was amazing. Make sure and order the stroganoff.

    4
    « Great Value & Location »

This is a really good value hotel near the Meadows and very handy for the University and the studenty areas of Marchmont & Bruntsfield. Easy walk to the Royal Mile. The rooms are comfortable although not huge. There are numerous bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The free parking is a useful bonus. Breakfast was fairly standard quality but relatively inexpensive.

    « Great hotel...except for the internet! »

Stayed here 2 nights on business. Great room, well appointed, superb enormous bed. Staff generally couldn't be more helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately on my first day the internet was completely non-functioning, which can be a deal breaker for people on business. I realise these things happen sometimes. Luckily I picked up a good 4G signal, but chewed through my months data allowance! I'd have liked this to be a 5* review, which except for the internet, it was!

    « Weekend Break »

The hotel is very nice with excellent, friendly, helpful staff. Conveniently situated for the city centre, a good walk to Princes Street or the Grassmarket. We like to eat early and there was an excellent pre-theatre dinner menu which was very good value. Breakfast was very comprhensive.

    « Fantastic »

I arrived a early evening a wet mess at this hotel as other accommodation had badly let me down and the staff could not have been more helpful. They were very understanding and sorted me with a room without any fuss. The standard and cleanliness of the room was excellent, I couldn't have asked for better.

« surprise Xmas present weekend break »

I booked a long weekend break to Edinburgh as a surprise Xmas gift for my partner, we had visited Inverness a couple of years ago and stopped in the Best Western and had a lovely time, so I was excited to be going to another Best Western. We were not disappointed, the whole experience was just lovely, the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was lovely and reasonable, our room was beautiful, with a four poster bed which was huge and very comfortable. Very good location, not only overlooking a park, close to centre and castle, on a bus route with regular buses, 15 - 20 minute walk to the centre which we actually really enjoyed on the Saturday. Really easy to access all local attractions. Fantastic break

« Perfect stay in lovely area »

Stayed here for one night when visiting friends. We had a lovey room overlooking the meadows with a big, comfortable bed and lots of space. The staff are absolutely lovely and can't do enough to help - but discreetly and without fuss. The breakfast was very good and service excellent. Thank you for making our stay a very pleasant one.

    « Weekend Break »

We got an excellent deal through Best Western with a special winter rate for Members. As we are Platinum members we also got an upgraded room. The hotel is very welcoming as are all the staff. We pre-booked dinner in the restaurant and because of this we got complimentary drinks. We always like to eat early and there was a Pre-Theatre special menu from 5.00pm to 7.00pm which was ideal for us.The food was excellent and piping hot. Breakfast also was very good with a wide choice of items.

    « Great time. »

Just spent 2 night 3 days at the hotel. Quality of the accommodation was excellant as was the food, staff were really nice, Christopher in particular was great. Withing walking distance to city centre or on the bus route. Both was easy. I would go back there again.

    « Birthday weekend »

Myself and my husband stayed here for my 30th Birthday weekend. When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff. Check in was really quick and efficient and we were fournate that we were able to get into our room early which was great after a long journey. The room was nicely decorated, very spacious and exceptionally clean. The room was so nice i was sad to leave it at the end of our stay. Breakfast was a big highlight for us. There was a good selection to choose from the cold buffet. All the hot items were served to you which was great. The scottish grill was lovely, hot and hearty and certainly didnt disappoint! All the staff we ecountered we extremely professional, polite and friendly. I would definately recommend to others wanting to visit Edinburgh. The hotel is about 20 min walk into the heart of the city which to wasn't a problem as we enjoy walking and prefer not to be in the thick of it. To conclude...... great hotel, great staff looking forward to returning in the future.

    5
« Excellent staff, great location »

This hotel is in a great location, not far from the city centre about 15 mins walk, next to a great open parkland where young and old meet. 15mins from Grassmarket, what more do you want. Excellent staff who are always attentive and make it special by getting to know you and your needs. Cannot rate these guys any higher.

    3
« good hotel in general, but non-functioning internet »

Good hotel overall, helpful friendly staff. Quite good for a best western (which seem in general nicer in the UK than in the US where they are more like inns and more like hotels here). Clean nice room. Good location, good value. My only compliant is that the internet is essentially non-existent/non-functional as it's taken about 10 minutes to load this page and none of the other pages I loaded worked and it took about 10 minutes to load my e-mail.

    5
« One of the best hotels of our whole trip »

We stayed at this hotel for several nights and was well worth whatever it was we paid. The rooms were of a good size, clean, and comfortable. We got the room with the breakfast included and we also ate at the restaurant twice - the selection was good, as were the meals. The restaurant and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We brought a vehicle and the parking is tight but manageable. If you can back into the stall, I recommend doing that - it will make life easier trying to get out of the spot. The location is perfect, a quick bus ride puts you right on Princes Street and as there are several different lines that pass by you aren't waiting long. Definitely on the top of my list of places to stay on my next visit!

    5
« Great place to stay. Definitely recommend. »

All good things to say about this hotel. Beautiful location opposite Bruntsfield and easy to find and park. Convent for shops and attractions - on transport routes etc or within walking distance. Very friendly helpful staff. Beautiful traditional decor. Nice and spacious inside and rooms. Good breakfast. Nice lounge area, magazines, complimentary coffee biscuits etc. Cant fault it really.

« Best Hotel I've Stayed in for the Price »

My wife and I had a short break here in a quiet period just before Christmas. Considering the price we paid (around £115 for two nights B&B for two) we think this is the best value hotel we have ever stayed at. The rate was a special non refundable winter rate, only available if you pay in advance and book direct. The room was large. We had a nice view over the park (requested when booking). The breakfast was also very nice and every single staff member we met was cheerful and polite. A mile or so from the main Edinburgh attractions, but we enjoyed the walk.

    3
    « Disappointing return »

Having stayed at this hotel on business in the past I decided to stay over the New Year period with my girlfriend. Whilst I understand hotels push up their prices for the festive period I feel that doubling the price is taking advantage. I stayed in the superior 4 poster room and certainly felt the carpet was way past its best. The wall covering appeared to be backing paper used prior to wallpapering and gave absolutely no sense of being a premium room. On returning home I realised there should have been fruit in the room as well as ice - neither of these were provided during the stay. On a positive note the staff were very helpful and was good to see some of the long standing members still there. But to end it all I would not pay the standard price for this room and feel very let down based on what I did actually pay. Will I stay again- maybe but won't push the boat out on a superior room.

    « Leisure stay »

Food excellent, Staff polite and proffesiona and attentive. Hotel clean and tidy. Perfect location not in the centre of the city but near enough. Would definatley stayagain, Room was huge as was the bathroom. had a view of the castle, the downside was the window was only 2 foot wide. but thisis expected in listed buildings. Overall a great time was had.

    « Good--except wifi »

Staff is friendly, place is clean, neat and spacious. Overall, very good! Two problems to me; 1.) If the free parking enticed you, don't let it--they have a very small, limited parking lot 2.) Their wifi is HORRENDOUS. Free though, which a lot are not.

    3
    « Nothing Special »

We stayed at the hotel on boxing day so we could visit family & friends, for which the location was excellent, as well as the included parking. We got a good deal on the room, but in all fairness for what is supposed to be a 4 star, rather prestigious hotel in the area, I was far from impressed and have stayed in much better hotels for similar cost. I would certainly not pay the much higher normal rate for this hotel. While I can't comment on any of the hotels facilities or the bar/restaurant as we had no need of them and didn't have enough time to check them out. The interior decor of the hotel, as well as the overall atmosphere was rather dated and stale. The room itself was lovely and big, with plenty of space for the 2 of us, both in the main room and the bathroom. Was located on the ground floor not far from reception but can't say we heard any noise of any sort. The room decor carried on the dated theme of the rest of the hotel. With rather worn looking furniture and carpets. The bed was the saving grace of the stay, absolutely massive and very comfortable, with a choice of pillows available too. The bathroom, while being nice and large was somewhat shabby, with some fittings a bit past their best (toilet roll holder coming off the wall for example). The shower was powerful enough but the holder on the wall wasn't particularly easy to adjust. The wifi was pretty useless. Like I said at the start, I've stayed in much cleaner, more modern and better equipped hotels for the same money, let along the normal full price rate for this hotel. It's only saving factor is the location in Bruntsfield which is what we needed, and the parking.

    « Consistently high standard »

This was our 5th stay at the Bruntsfield in the last 5 years and was as good as ever. Went for a birthday and early retirement celebration and the lovely lady on reception gave us a free upgrade. The room was a mini-suite at the front of the hotel overlooking Bruntsfield Links and it was fabulous - spacious and comfortable. As per usual the staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant food (breakfasts and evening meal) were top quality too. So as you can probably tell, we love staying here and will be back again in 2016 for our 6th visit. See you then!

« hotel, staff and food wonderful shame about room »

We booked executive twin room but had a family room with double bed. Mattress was awful and made me roll into the centre but room very spacious. Traffic noise kept me awake even though windows were double glazed. Had to go to reception for case when we had been told it would be taken up to room when we arrived earlier. Food excellent. Breakfast very good served quickly too. Choice was excellent too.

    « Lovely Hotel »

My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights after booking it for our son & his wife the weekend before so that we could visit the xmas markets & i must say it did not dissapoint. The hotel, staff, meals everything was 1st class & would certainly stay again.

    « Great hotel »

We stayed here for a long weekend. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The bed was enormous and very comfy with quality bed linen and pillows. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the food was very good with both a buffet and menu for freshly cooked hot breakfast. It is about a 20 minute walk into Edinbugh town, which is a pleasant walk if the weather is good. Taxi was only £5, so if it was wet it wasn't expensive. The hotel restaurant in the evening was a great find. We ended up eating here every night rather than going out as the food was excellent and the menu varied. The service was also v good. It is definitely a hotel we will return to in the future.

    « Great hotel »

On arrival at the hotel we were made most welcome our room was first class and the meal later was exceptional my thanks to all the staff from myself and my wife will stay again at this hotel the walk to the city centre was 20min not 10 but that did not worry us in fact it did us good

    « Absolutely great »

We recently stayed at this hotel on our vacation beginning of december. The room is spacious, bathroom great. Parking is in front of the hotel and free of charge. Honestly we were lucky to find place as we heard this is an issue at the hotel. However there are many parking places nearby at charge (only working days and hours). 15 minutes walking distance to the center, everything seems close. I absolutely rate this hotel as a perfect value-money, with breakfast included, service and staff friendly and helpful. I did not experienced any issues or problem. Recommend to all travellers!

    « Excellent location »

10 min walk to main centre and castle, town etc Clean, comfortable, helpful reception beautiful views across park. Lovely bistro in hotel, breakfast was good if not basic. Didn't eat in bistro but looked good value, Wifi was poor in room but would definitely return.

« Good location, helpful staff »

We planned this visit a few weeks in advance and made the booking. Good location. On arrival, we were greeted very warmly by the staff and when advice was asked for, everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Room was excellent, clean, spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast was superb. Great variety, plenty of it and the cooked food fresh and well presented.

    5
« As good as ever »

Our 6th visit and so good to be greeted by familiar faces. Another excellent stay with good food, room and attention to detail by the staff. The hotel is located on a good bus route with easy access to the city centre. Alternatively one can walk in across the Meadows.

    4
« Great hotel not too far from City centre »

We had a lovely room overlooking the main road and park area; reasonable view of Arthur's Seat. Great in room amenities and fantastic full breakfast. Car park is free but small. Edinburgh centre is walkable from the hotel, otherwise there is a bus stop outside.

« Weekend getaway to Edinburgh »

Just spent three nights at this hotel (recommended by friends that live locally). Wanted to say thank you to the staff for their excellent, friendly and efficient service. In particular, a big thank you to the deputy manager Iain Henderson and to Angela who works on reception. We would definitely stay here again.

    4
    « nice restaurant »

I had a Saturday lunch here with family and the food and service were very good. Nice glass extension onto a garden so good a light even on a dull day. The staff were happy to help with my low fat requirements. We had the turkey dinner and my husband had a bread and butter pudding which he said was 'alright'.

    3
    « Not a good night's sleep »

Did not sleep well as mattress and pillows very poor and require to be replaced. We were in room 216 and toilet did not flush well if at all on occasions. We mentioned this on check. Breakfast was just okay could have been better. Disappointed and don't think we would use again.

    4
« Great area, helpful staff »

The hotel is located in a lovely part of Edinburgh, convenient to the University and the airport and not too far from Haymarket and the city centre. The room was comfortable and the staff very natural, helpful and friendly. The car park is free to guests but very small and the lobby could do with a freshen-up. The breakfast was a bit patchy (lovely coffee and smoked salmon but scrambled eggs and yogurts not very nice.) There were some problems with connecting to the new wifi system. Overall I was very happy with my stay.

    5
    « Christmas markets »

Perfect location to enjoy the Christmas Markets, Near bars restaurants and theatres. Staff very helpful and polite, room clean and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was good value for money, they did not have vegetarian sausages as advertised but that's my only complaint.

    4
    « GOOD STAY »

I spent only one night, but I was very satisfied. The room was very large and comfortable. The hotel is well located and the city centre is easily reachable by foot in 10 min. the breakfast can be improved.

« Staff friendly enough but hotel dated and WiFi useless »

Stayed one night travelling with work - got a reasonable advance rate deal but definitely wouldn't have been worth more. I stayed in an executive room which was large with one small window - large bathroom with no window so all felt a bit gloomy. The room and bathroom decor is very 80's. Patterned carpets and chintz. The most annoying thing was the lack of WiFi - apparently had been upgraded but no connection possible and as I was trying to work this was frustrating. Suggestions started and ended with turn it on and off again! On the up side it was clean and the staff were friendly. I wouldn't stay here again - feels quite corporate and impersonal but not fully up to speed as a 'business hotel' 3 star at best

    « Fantastic !! »

Stayed here 23-25th November for the Christmas market and the hotel is highly recommended . Our room , a family , was amazing . There was a queen size bed and 2 singles ( plenty of pillows ) a 2 seat settee a table and 2 chairs . Along with a wardrobe and plenty of drawer space there was enough room for a game of 5-a-side !! Bathroom was big with 2 sinks and a giant mirror and the shower was excellent too . We only had breakfast 2 mornings ( excellent too ) so didn't sample the other meals in the restaurant . Spotlessly clean and Ideal location for the city centre ( about 20 min walk if you want ) buses are frequent and cheap also . All staff polite and courteous so really couldn't ask for anymore . Thanks to everyone

« Friendly hotel with spacious rooms »

I was working in Edinburgh for three days, and this hotel was an excellent base, especially as it offered free parking for the duration of my stay. The room was really spacious and everyone I met was very welcoming. I enjoyed three dinners in the restaurant, with plenty of choice on the menu, and breakfast was similarly generous. The location made it possible to walk to the city centre for work (20 minutes) but there are also plenty of buses. There seems to be nowhere to park in the city! It was great to have an ample desk to work at in the evenings and very controllable heating in the bedroom. Simple things, but important.

« Great for short city stopover »

Second time at this hotel, won't be the last. Excellent service all round, friendly staff great breakfast. The room was very clean & large, & the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very good & the shower was excellent.

    « Excellent weekend »

The room was great...great bed, nice bathroom great view of the park. The restaurant was superb and the food we had was excellent. Brilliant service and a nice atmosphere. We also had a parking place allocated to use which was perfect. We then used the bus and took a quick 10 min bus trip to the center of town for Christmas shopping.

« The best Best Western hotel I've stayed in. »

What a fabulous hotel. The room was brilliant, large with a lovely view across the park, we were thrilled as soon as we walked into it. A great bathroom too, clean and well appointed with no need to take toiletries because shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and bath salts are all provided and replaced if used. The bed was pure luxury, extremely comfortable with good quality linen, we didn't want to get out of it! The staff are all lovely, friendly and helpful yet still professional. The restaurant was the best we have experienced in an hotel in the UK, warm and welcoming with great staff, not to mention how good the food was. Well I ought to mention it because it was excellent, we ate there every evening which is very unusual for us. A nice leisurely stroll to the Royal Mile, either down the road or across the park, about 20 minutes but taxis are relatively inexpensive if you don't fancy that. This was my first time in Edinburgh but it won't be my last and when I do come back The Bruntsfield will be my first choice of hotel, if not my only choice. I'd go back in a heartbeat without any qualms at all

    « Great Hotel & Location »

My wife and I spent a long weekend here on our wedding anniversary and the hotel met all our expectations. A spacious, clean well decorated room with very comfortable bed. Front of house staff were very polite and accommodating at all times. The location is excellent overlooking the park, A short 20min walk or 10min bus ride to the city centre and all it has to offer. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it too.

    « Brilliant! »

Large room, comfortable bed, fresh towels, toiletries and refreshments replenished everyday. WI-FI ok but could be better. Breakfast was lovely. Ideal location just 20 minutes walk from all the city centre attractions. Would definitely stay there again.

    5
    « Fabulous »

Stayed here again last week after our stay in 2014 for the festival. The same equally fabulous and very comfortable room and service and excellent food in the restaurant. Located in a quiet but well appointed part of Edinburgh either a walk or a bus ride away from the main attractions. That said there are many bars and restaurants only a couple of minutes walk away if you don't want to venture far. I'll be very glad to be back for a third time :-)

    « Simply perfect! »

My family and I were very impressed with everything at the Bruntsfield. Our rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The staff were very willing to help, especially with re-stocking my mothers need for several cups of tea and many sugars! Overall a great trip and would definitely recommend to anyone as perfect place to stay when visiting Edinburgh!

    « Brilliant Stay »

I booked this hotel fairly last minute to attend a family reunion. We had three rooms all together. Myself and my girlfriend had a fantastic stay, the room was great, very quiet and clean. We both love a strong shower and it certainly didn't disappoint! I did get attacked by a giant spider, but luckily I survived... The bar area was great and the staff were fantastic! I did promise to mention a few names but unfortunately they now escape me! But a special shout out to Lewis (I think) from Falkirk, and the accident prone lady who needs 'special insurance'... It is thanks to these two that my girlfriend now knows that a haggis is actually an animal round in the highlands! Amazing! (It's lucky she's pretty...) Breakfast was apparently fantastic, unfortunately I was too hungover to attend but the reports were great. Excellent location to the city centre, about a 20 minute walk or £8 in a taxi so a great location. Really would recommend this hotel, very reasonably priced compared to the area and the staff really did make the stay very enjoyable! Thanks again to all and sorry for the lack of names!

    « Welcoming Friendly Hotel »

We were made to feel special as soon as we walked through the door, we were upgraded to a beautiful cosy room with a four poster bed, the staff were helpful and friendly our entire stay. The hotel was clean tidy and welcoming.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here to visit our daughter who's at university in Edinburgh. It was very comfortable, friendly, helpful staff and a good location. Breakfast was nice with a good choice. I'd definitely stay again! The bed was huge and very comfortable. Large bathroom with shower cubicle and bath. Highly recommended.

    « Beautiful Bruntsfield »

We stayed at the Bruntsfield for five days at the end of October. The hotel is in a lovely location about one and a half miles from the city centre. It is a nice walk into Edinburgh either down the streets or a more picturesque walk through the park. Our room overlooked Bruntsfield Links and although on a main road this did not affect our enjoyment. Our room was a superior room and was huge! Lovely big bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle and two sinks. We also had a separate sitting area which was a great area for dressing in. The staff at the hotel were friendly and efficient throughout from the receptionists, housekeeping, restaurant and bar staff - nothing was too much trouble! The food was superb - particularly enjoyed breakfasts where scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was a favourite of mine but my husband loved the Scottish breakfast and became a firm fan of haggis! Whilst it is fairly easy to walk into the city, the local buses are superb and run about every ten minutes - £1.50 for a single journey and £4 for a day ticket. This is a cheap and easy way to get around. We had a superb stay at The Bruntsfield and will certainly be back! We are frequent users of the Best Western Hotels but can see why this one is a "Plus".

Lovely hotel for the price, excellent hotel staff, everything is very clean, good wifi in rooms, good breakfast options, easy walk to the city bus, some good restaurants nearby. I'd certainly stay here again.

    « BRUNTSFIELD HOTEL »

Could not fault this hotel - excellent breakfast with a great choice of foods.. Really comfortable bed. Clean and tidy room which was always made up to a very high standard. We shall certainly return to this venue when visiting Edinburgh again.

« Very civilized city visit »

My son and I stayed here, visiting my daughter at uni. We were given a very suitable room, tastefully decorated, immaculately clean, and the whole hotel has some lovely character. Reception staff were helpful and friendly when needed (mostly re buses into city centre). FYI the hotel shower gel etc. is very good and helpful if you are travelling hand baggage only. Location is great if you don't want the noise of the city centre and Bruntsfield is a beautiful part of Edinburgh. We tended to have busy days out doing tourist things, and then eat at restaurants in Bruntsfield (loads of choice of non-chain restaurants).

    « A Boutique Hotel at it's best. »

What a beautiful place! We stayed here over the New Year and it was absolutely stunning. The building has been sympathetically renovated and has kept its integrity. There is a wonderful feeling about the place as soon as you walk in.

« Great location good place to stay »

Excellent large room which was surprisingly warm despite being at the end of October and we didn't have the heater on. Room was an "executive family room" with an enormous double bed and my son had a bunk bed to himself. The hotel is a good 20-25 minutes walk away from the Castle / Princes Street but it is a very pleasant walk through the Meadows. The Bruntsfield area is away from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street / Castle and is full of small independent shops / coffee shops / restaurants and I'd recommend the area. Staff are very helpful - I had an issue about checking in on the FlyBe web site but they managed to sort it out for me. Excellent breakfast, individually cooked rather than just serve yourself.

it would take too long to single one person out all the staff went the extra mile to make a pleasant stay the room i had was in the front of the building great breakfast and very good service my 9year old grandson lives in morningside just 10 minutes from the hotel he had breakfast one morning he likes the staff

« overnight for a party in the hotel »

We stopped overnight for an engagement partyThe hotel was very nice. Check in was smooth and efficient, the room was very nice and a good size as was the ensuite (hard to better the room). Breakfast was also very good. Parking is limited the car park was full so we paid and parked across the road, but the hotel also had a few spaces on a side street we were unaware of this until check-in.

« Convenient location, great view and comfort place »

The location of the hotel is great, opposite to the park and not far to walk to the castle. There is parking space in front of the hotel. The rooms are designed differently between 2 wings of the hotel(...I guest). My room look more modern than my friend's room. But it's a bit smaller. The corridor to the room is bad! Yes, it's so bad and not friendly for travelers who have large luggage. Because there are many steps along the corridor. We have to up and down with heavy suitcases. However, the hotel is good and comfort. Parking is free. The room looks like new. Large bathroom with full amenities. Also, WIFI is stable both at the lobby and in room. And i love the cookies! We love this hotel. It's our best stay and valued for money.

« last minute trip to Edinburgh »

This hotel is really great. From arrival to departure, we had a great stay. Free parking, great room upgrade, great breakfast. Could not fault anything, iron and ironing board brought up to our room. Comfortable pillows, soft/firm. Good location, free wifi. Friendly unobtrusive staff. Easy check out. We are fans of ~Great Western and stay with them internationally whenever possible. So it's a thumbs up from us.

    « Another Lovely Stay »

Stayed for a break for probably the fifth year in a row at this hotel. Great value and very friendly. Lovely walks through the links into town. Only niggle was the room upgrade with the package. We paid an extra £80 for the top room. No robes, slippers, fruit ice etc as advertised with the best room. Had to query it , but it was resolved quickly and with good humour, so thanks. Would gave got 5 star rating if this had been done initially. Enjoyed dinner on one evening and breakfasts were very good, as always. Really lovely restaurant staff, especially the breakfast lady that has been there every time we go.

« Best Hotel and right location »

Its great experience to stay in Best Western @ Edinburgh recently for a week. It was very good hotel with quality of service and comfort. I had good time with my friends together. Only suggestion I have is , Break fast menu should be changed timely for keep in up of taste change in customer experience..

    5
    « What a great find! »

Loved staying here, very friendly hotel with everything you need. Well priced! Only a short bus trip away from the heart of Edinburgh, or a nice walk either through the beautiful meadows. Lots of little cafés and nice shops nearby. Breakfasts were good. We had one of the smaller rooms but it was still plenty big enough. Free onsite parking!! Unheard of in Edinburgh so a great bonus. Will definitely stay again if in Edinburgh again.

    5
« Wish we were staying longer! »

A traditional hotel, with all mod-cons. It kept a feeling of classic Edinburgh, whilst being up-to-date with facilities. Staff were friendly and although we didn't use the restaurant only because we had already eaten - it looked very nice and the menu was very good. There was a lot of choice for breakfast: cereals; cold meats; fruits and berries etc and the cooked breakfast menu enabled you to choose the amount of food you wanted from the breakfast items. We would definately book this hotel again but would stay longer than the one night stay we had.

    4
    « Family Get-together »

We stayed as part of a family group in five rooms, as guests of my sister-in-law. Check in staff were helpful and efficient. Our room was superb - large, clean, and comfortable, with an enormous bed. Importantly, I slept well despite being on a busy main road. Room decor was slightly tired and would benefit from fresh wallpaper or a coat of emulsion. We had dinner on two nights. The first night wasn't wonderful. My Diet Coke was very watery. Regular Coke was similar. Prawn cocktail looked good, if a bit light on prawns. However, they prawns were small and tasteless. Perhaps they had been defrosted too quickly. My main course was a gourmet burger. Wrong choice - it was dry and tasteless. McDonalds would have been better. Panna cotta was ok. Following night was slightly better. Those who ordered Coke were served bottles - so I guess they realised they had a problem. Pate looked good but was rather tasteless. Fish and chips was very tasty. Sticky toffee pudding also enjoyable. Nice breakfast on both mornings fairly standard 4 star fare - with hot food items cooked and served to order.

    5
    « First Class »

Whilst only stopping at this hotel for business reasons, I can only say the whole offering from the Hotel is superb. All rooms are excellent, great service and reception from all members of staff from the front door to the restaurant which offers excellent food. Haggis for breakfast is a treat and would recommend to all. Liked so much would certainly consider for a family stop, family rooms are also of excellent standard - bunk beds for kids and large room for parents / carers.

    5
« Great location with free parking an added bonus »

This was our last nights stay of our Scottish tour! Finishing off in beautiful Edinburgh and we weren't disappointed, this hotel is in a great location, walking distance to all Edinburgh has to offer and includes the free parking onsite too. The room was great, walls a tad thin (we had an adjoining room with the communal door locked), so not sure if this is why we could hear our neighbours cough at night, but apart from that, the service & food was very good, special thanks to the lady on checkin who checked us in early & lowed us a extra hour on checkout

« Comfortable, affordable, great location »

Bruntsfield Inn was a great spot for our four days in Edinburgh. Located about a 15 minute walk through The Meadows (a large green space with tons of history including a free to play pitch and putt golf course (Bruntsfield Links), past the university and up to the Royal Mile. Our room was a double room with a small separate seating room and large, well-appointed bathroom with separate shower and also a tub. The room wasn't what I would describe as luxurious, but it was very clean and well serviced during our stay. We were a bit concerned that we faced the road, however, even when leaving the windows open for fresh air, we had no issues as the road just isn't that busy at night. The view over The Meadows was very pleasant and was perfect for people watching. My husband and I are runners, and again, this location lent itself nicely to an early morning exploration through the park and on an extended run one morning to Arthur's Seat. A full breakfast was included in our room rate and consisted of both hot and cold items, and some of the best haggis we tried. We didn't eat dinner in the restaurant, although it came recommended. For those travellers needing a gluten-free diet, the breakfast provided a variety of items. The Front desk staff were accommodating and the only thing we needed that they weren't able to assist us with was the whereabouts of a local do-it-yourself laundry. There wasn't a concierge on staff, but when asked about particular tours, restaurant reservations, they were more than happy to investigate for us. One suggestion would be for the hotel to buy a few old golf clubs for the pitch and putt game on the Links. We really wanted to play it, but didn't have the equipment. That would definitely have added to the experience!

    « Fabulous »

We stayed in a mini suite room 116. It was lovely, a real treat after a week of different B&B's whilst touring the North Coast 500. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The food both breakfast and evening meal was delicious.

    « wedding weekend »

Spent last weekend in "Auld reekie", The old name for Edinburgh. The Brunsfield is situated in an area of quirky shops, restaurants and bars and is a gentle 15 minute stroll to the main shopping areas at Princess Street. The rooms are spacious, beds are king sized, tons of space in the bathroom. The staff are first class, nothing is any bother and the receptionists are are cheery bunch who always have time for a "wee blether!" Bar service excellent, and all of this at very competitive prices. I hope the young lady to whom I gave my "designer Ha Ha" reading glasses is enjoying them. A must to return.

    « What a great hotel »

This is a fantastic hotel to stay in. The rooms are large and being in Edinburgh transport is easy. The food us excellent and the hotel staff are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Weekend break »

Found it easy to park and good quick pleasant check in. Room was spacious and modern with large window overlooking the green opposite. No problem with road noise. Bed very large and very comfy. Bathroom was modern and clean and we had a seperate door inside the room so no corridor noise. Plenty of cupboard space Breakfast was good and served to your table. Staff again were pleasant and attentive. Really enjoyed our stay and will stay again. Good location for centre.

    « Great Hotel »

Just returned from a weekend break in Edinburgh. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Bruntsfield. It had everything I want from a hotel. Clean, comfy beds, good quality food and the staff were excellent. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from Princes Street, but there is a very good bus service and the fare is just £1.50. There are 2 or 3 good restaurants within walking distance, Café Grande and an Italian restaurant, they are very busy so its a good idea to book.

« Great location, lovely hotel »

Twin room was spacious with bay window, proper furniture, facility for making tea and coffee. All very clean and lots of room. Friendly service, good breakfast choice, and great location for Napier college, and the lovely Bruntsfield / Morningside area. And strict no smoking policy :-)

    « 4 night break »

Exactly what we wanted for a 4 night break. Excellent customer service - all staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Food was excellent. Quiet part of outskirts of Edinburgh but easy to walk to city centre. Plenty of buses, stops were 5 mins walk from front door of hotel. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel

« Pleasant outcome of last minute booking »

last minute booking for just one night but I was given a large double (No 4 at the front of the hotel but no problems with noise) with king size bed and lovely bathroom with a small room with bunks as well. Check in/out very efficient and very attentive breakfast staff who rustled up a smoked haddock despite it not being on the menu. Add in a lovely setting on the Meadows and parking on site- all in all a very good experience.
