The Victorian Best Western Edinburgh South Braid Hills Hotel is perfectly perched in a fantastic location, with wondrous panoramic views across Edinburgh and beyond to the Firth of Forth and the Hills of Fife to prove it! In its own grounds with ample free parking, this hotel offers class and comfort in spades. . . with the added bonus of having one of the world's prettiest city centres on its doorstep. For seclusion and character few hotels come close, though Edinburgh's Royal Mile, Prince's Street shops and countless tourist attractions are just a quick Piper's march away. For meals and mingling, we have a choice of restaurants and bars. Plus, five golf courses lie within one mile of hotel (which is to be expected as the game itself was born in this very city!) Please note that although we have no lift, luggage assistance available on request. . . just say the word! Enjoy your stay.

« Great hotel which we have used numerous times and will continue to do so. »

Great hotel in handy location with car parking. Very comfortable rooms/beds and plenty warm and cosy for these cold winter nights. Staff are helpful and there is good food in the restaurant. We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and will continue to use it on our trips to Edinburgh.

    « Best value hotel »

Very good value, superbly updated furnishing and evening meal was great. Enjoy the atmosphere that this hotel creates - many larger chain economy hotels offer similar deals but they are characterless and lack atmosphere.

« Breakfast not worth the money. »

This was our second week-end visit, last visit was 24/25 Sept. The room was on the third floor, well furnished and decorated , clean and has all the facilities. Except the sink in the bathroom was very small. Unfortunately ,Breakfast was Luke warm and self service, staff were very sluggish, and the breakfast was not worth £14.95 per person. For this kind of money I would expect freshly cooked breakfast and a menu. Another downfall there are No Lifts. It has it's good points but there is a need for improvements. Saturday night £139.00 Sunday night £89.00 room only for two people.

    « Excellent »

Arrived a few hours ago for a 3 night stay. What a lovely hotel, cosy bar area and restaurant overlooking the city. We opted for a bar lunch and chose the hot sharing platter, delicious! Very attentive but not overly intrusive barman & waiter. I enjoyed a coffee after our lunch while hubby went for a life stroll then we checked into our room - beautiful. Looks as though it's been recently refurbished. Bathroom also recently done, stylish and pristine. Looking forward to the rest of our stay and hoping the restaurant good is as good as the bar, I'm sure it will be.

    « Nice but... »

The hotel is really quirky (in a good way) the team are very friendly and helpful and the location is OK for easy access to the CBD and areas around Edinburugh. The "but" is because the shower in my room (and my friends room staying on the same floor in a different room) didnt flow properly....ie to get wet I had to run round the bath tub so to speak. It was like the water flow restirctor had been turned to super water flow restriction and the water came out with a very light flow, not enough to quickly get wet with ease. I come from a country that almost constantly has water restrictions so I shower very quickly as a result and have a respect for water saving strategies and devices. I did report the issue just in case it was a fault and was thanked by the staff member for my feedback and he said it would be looked into. It was a dent in an otherwise very enjoyable Edinburgh experience.

« Woops, your dinner's on the floor! »

I'd booked a table for a Friday night family dinner for five. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but it had a good atmosphere and the room was attractive. The menu was varied, however the gluten-free choices were not great despite the hotel advertising that they could cater for special diets. We ordered, the starters came quickly and were very tasty. The mains took a bit longer but we weren't in a hurry. Unfortunately however, just as they were coming out of the kitchen, the swing door caught the waitress and pushed her forward, in turn propelling the fish pie off the plate and all over the floor of the restaurant. We were told it would be 20 minutes for another fish pie, however as everyone else had their food rapidly cooling in front of them I opted for a quicker option for a replacement. It came after 10 minutes and was fine. The restaurant manager was apologetic, however he did not take that item off the bill at the end of the night, which I thought was really a bit off. All in all the service was a bit lacking but we had a pleasant evening nonetheless.

« Well appointed with great bar man Elsida »

After returning refreshed from Murrayfield. The kitchen was closed but Elsida ensured that there was great food was made, for which I am very grateful. Good breakfast in the morning too. The room was pretty good too, clean and above expectations.

« So well served and with a smile! »

I have to say the funeral tea I attended was second to none, just excellent. There was plenty of room, a place to hang coats and tea and coffee with sandwiches and sausage rolls. There is no doubt the staff were hand picked, pleasant and well able to cope with a crowd.

« My overnight stay at the Braid Hill Hotel. »

Nice Hotel, Friendly Staff, enjoyed my evening meal, and relaxed in the comfortable bar area, The room was a bit small but did have all required facilities. Free parking is also available front and rear of the hotel.

    « Deluxe double room. »

Absolutely superb. Welcoming staff. Refurbed room. Clean immaculate. A little warm but so what open the window. Food was lovely. Worth every penny. A real gem will definately be back and highly recommend. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Thank you.

    « Very impressed »

Just back from a lovely 2 night stay here. We were here about 5 years ago but since then it's been refurbished and we were really impressed. The hotel has a lot of character and has been tastefully decorated. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Although we didn't eat here we would definitely return again and a massive bonus is having the free parking

    « A room with a wonderful view ! »

We were contacted by this hotel as previous customers and offered a very good package as a 'Loyalty reward'. We were greeted by a friendly staff and then served a cream tea in the sitting area. Our room was on the 2nd floor and overlooked the city. The room was very comfortable with a double bed made up of 2 singles. The bathroom was spacious with modern fitments. The shower over a bath. There was a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We dined in the 1886 restaurant and had a good choice of menu. Breakfast was buffet style, with plenty of choices of fruit juices, yoghourts, fresh fruit, cereals etc. A large selection of hot cooked food, toast, croissants and jams. The staff were all helpful and courteous.

    « Beautiful experience »

Visited Edinburgh for one night, glad that we stayed here. Superb view from our room. Plenty of professional quality breakfast choices. Victorian decoration. Very helping staff and manager. Very quiet and private rooms.

    « Sunday Overnight »

Lovely friendly hotel in a great location for Morningside and 3 miles into Edinburgh . Room was excellent and bed comfy, both dinner and breakfast were of good standard too. Will go again in the summer as there are great views from the oustde seating area

« Perfect location for Edinburgh »

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay. The hotel is perfect base for a visit to Edinburgh and the surrounding area. The staff are fantastic nothing is too much trouble. We had 2 double rooms and although they were a little on the small side, they were more than adequate for a short stay. The hotel provides free car parking with ample parking spaces. The bedrooms are kept spotless and are well maintained. The hotel has a restaurant and bar which also serves bar snacks. We ate in the restaurant on all three evenings of our stay, the food was excellent and the staff friendly and efficient. There is a good choice of evening meals, cooked to perfection. The desserts are unbelievable. We also had the buffet breakfast each day,the choice of a cooked breakfast with fresh fruit, cereal and juices was again excellent. The hotel has a well stocked bar with friendly staff. Great for a relaxing evening after a long day sightseeing. We will certainly return to the Braid Hills the next time we visit Edinburgh.

    « Two day break »

This was our second visit to this hotel. The reason we chose this hotel was because it has parking in their grounds. The hotel is a 15-20 minute bus ride into Princess Street Number 11 bus £1.60 which picks you up just outside the hotel. Since our last visit the hotel has refurbished the bedrooms and we were delighted to be upgraded at no extra cost to a beautiful large bedroom overlooking the whole of Edinburgh. We had three televisions one built into the bed and one in the bathroom which was unusual as well as one on the wall. We had dinner on the first night of our stay which was excellent. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. (The fruit crumble was the best ever highly recommended!) We were made very welcome and look forward to our next visit.

    4
« Comfortable hotel with only a couple of gripes. »

We had a great room and comfortable king-size bed. Pity about the tiny shower-room and lack of lighting in the shower. The breakfast buffet was unfortunately only average with a poor choice of continental breakfast items and staff appeared to find it difficult to keep supply of appetising food up to scratch at peak times.

    « Another super stay »

Arrived mid morning to a super welcome once again ,knew our room would not be ready but let us leave the car on arrival back another great welcome we had booked a double room with view last time we were upgraded to superior one this time not so lucky, but no major probs with one we got ??Couple of things if was gonna have a moan bathroom bit tiny ,no bath ,did not like tap area in bedroom spoilt look of it and hair dryer in silly place as no mirror close by.The hotel was very busy but the staff are all, outstanding people always a smile and hello from them and manage to have a chat with you if not to busy with the many jobs they do, the breakfast is very good nice to see more fruit on offer tables cleaned as soon as plates were empty nice to see restaurant manager helping out as well not just delegating always a warm welcome from him job well done.??The only thing if any I would like is more choice on the evening restaurant and bar menu . Oh and wine needs to be cheaper £7-50 for a glass it ott .But this will not put us off from staying at this super hotel

    « Good value hotel »

I stayed here for one night on a business trip. It was excellent value and the food for both dinner and breakfast was good. The only downside to it was the double bed was two singles pushed together. if I wanted a single bed I would have requested one. The evening staff could do with some training. When they put the food down it's usual to ask if you need anything else. They just put the food down and go to walk away. I was eating a burger and chips and had to call back and ask for salt, vinegar and ketchup. This took too long to arrive. I had to make a choice to either start eating without it or wait and hope the food did not go cold. On the whole a very nice hotel and I would book there again when I'm on business.

« Nice lunch but slow service »

We had a nice lunch here in a restaurant with a lovely view (- but perhaps they could trim the laurel hedge to make the view a bit clearer?!) Two of our party were gluten free but the chef was happy to make a fresh fish pie with no flour in it and it arrived fresh and delicious - if a bit heavy on the capers! The chicken breast with a haggis and chicken braidie was deemed to be excellent as well as was the lamb rump. However, the only punters on aThursday lunchtime was us and one other couple in the restaurant but the service attention was very inattentive and poor. When it came to paying the bill, I had to go and drag a waiter from the depths of the hotel to come and give us the bill, then 10'mins later I had to do the same again in order to try and pay!!

« Lovely hotel with great staff »

Stayed a couple of nights in October and was impressed with lots about this hotel. Booked a deluxe room as we wanted the views of Edinburgh and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the signature room at check in. The hotel is spotless clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is buffet style with lots of options for all tastes. We had dinner both nights in the hotel and the food was good. Location is about 3 miles south of Edinburgh city centre but is on a bus route and the walk through Morningside to the City is really nice with plenty of shops, cafes and bars. All in this is a great hotel I would recommend and will probably stay in again.

« Love this hotel and location. »

All staff from front desk to bar to housekeeping are super friendly and helpful especially andrea and melanie. Lovely room and facilities. Edinburgh is truly a friendly and beautiful city. I highly recommend this hotel.

    « 2 Day stay »

This was our second visit to Braid Hills hotel and like our first it was a lovely stay. This time I brought my 80 year old parents who also thought it was wonderful. The rooms (Clan Rooms) were fabulous, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was both great and plentiful. All the staff (restaurant, bar, housekeeping and reception) were lovely. Thank you. We will be visiting again. Well done

« Great two night stay for two. »

We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, when we arrived in our room we were thoroughly delighted with size , decor , cleanliness (it was spotless) , and too cap it off we had a great view of the city, ( my only small criticism would be that the tv plug was loose and needed attention - room 204 )The bar is well stocked and the Guinness is the best I've tasted in ages, it's nice and cosy in the bar too. We ate both nights in the restaurant and were impressed with the excellent staff and general service. Breakfasts were pleaseant and everything was freshly made, and you have a view over Edinburgh while you eat. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will stay again when we next visit the city, good value for money! Thanks to your staff for their attentiveness.

    « Business trip enjoyment »

The hotel was close to where I had business and this made it easily assessable for me. all the amenities in hotel from check in to restaurant and staff were very good. the site of hotel made it easy to get to motorway connections.

    « VERY FRIENDLY STAFF »

thanks to TRACEY, and staff, came over from BELFAST, and was made very welcome, the stay was outstanding . THE VIEW FROM OUR ROOM WAS BREATH TAKING...hope to be back in the future.. EDINBURGH CITY is something to see....

    « Birthday bash »

We stayed 3 days 2 nights at this fabulous hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is just on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Bus can be court at the bottom of the steps just outside to hotel. The bus 11 takes approx 20 minutes to get you into the centre of Edinburgh.costing only £1.60 for a single or £4.00 for a day pass. The rooms were very clean a great use of the space available. The bar prices were reasonable for a city hotel. Wifi code given on arrival and a strong signal throughout the hotel. Lovely little touch in your room makes this a home from home. Great selection at breakfast also fresh. All type of dietary requirements are catered for including vegetarians. Great selection of sightseeing leaflets available in reception. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend to family and friends visiting Scotland

    « Fabulous staff »

Second stay for us at the Best Western Braid hills . Lovely staff , everyone of them deserves a pat on the Back for their personalities , friendly funny and so approachable hospitality . Room was lovely , we got the last room in the hotel . when we booked it was spotless, warm and comfy . We stayed in one of the nights in the hotel for a meal , it was delicious, and very well presented . Breakfast was good and hot, again the service to get your tea and coffee , with you in a couple of minutes . A lovely break once again. Also on the main bus route into the town , which is a must .

    « Fantastic as always »

This is the 4th time we have stayed at this hotel and can not fault it one bit. The staff are fantastic the building is beautiful and the food is amazing. It's a little out from the centre but that would not stop us using this hotel. You are made feel welcome from the minute you step in the door. Thanks again Julie

    « Relaxing break »

Two night stopover on way to Aberdeen. Arrived Saturday evening and receptionist booked us in for dinner. Comfortable bar area for drinks, comfy armchairs, traditional decor and quiet ambience. Nice and decent service for busy restaurant. Buffet breakfast offered cooked and continental breakfast and cereals. Special orders also taken. We were expecting the 'attached' bistro pub to be open when we returned late from day out in Edinburgh but apparently it only does functions now. No matter, we tried the bar menu which hit the spot perfectly. Decent sized room in separate building. Comfiest bed ever! I even slept past my usual 5.30am ?? Telephone in reception to book taxi to Edinburgh which arrived promptly and cost about £12.

    « Mid Week Break »

A great hotel just on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The hotel was warm and clean with plenty of hot water. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful about things to do in the area and helping with travel. Breakfast is on a buffet basis, there is a good choice of cooked, cereals or continental or a mixture of all of them!!!! Travel links are good with a bus stop just outside which takes you straight to the centre of Edinburgh for £1.60. If you eat in the restaurant the food is reasonably priced and well cooked. The only downside is you scan your credit card/debit card and you can charge things to your room, another guest charged a full meal to our room, luckily we had eaten there earlier and staff just took it off the bill, if we hadnt eaten there that night it might have been a different story. However staff did not argue and everything was sorted. If staying in Edinburgh we would stop here again

« Beautiful building, amazing views, great staff »

This isn't my first visit to the BW Braid Hills, and it won't be my last either. I tagged an extra day on to the beginning of my trip as I needed to be in Edinburgh by 9am so came up on the Sunday. Lovely room - was in the annex building above the Buckstone. Had this only for one night sadly, however the staff moved my stuff while I was at work that day which was incredibly helpful. The second room wasn't quite as big, but certainly was to a good specification. It would appear the bathrooms have been renovated fairly recently and the new shower was really nice. Being quite tall I tend to find I have to crouch in most hotel showers but this one was perfect. Comfy beds, again felt quite new and the linen was good standard. Got talking to a few members of staff due to the length of my stay, all really pleasant but a special thank you to Jack behind the bar and Antonio in the restaurant. Really pleasant, very funny and between the staff there seemed to be good banter as well - this improves customer views and gives the entire hotel a close knit feel. I stay at a lot of Best Western hotels and have built quite a list of 'favorites'. Braid Hills isn't the top, but it's a very close second. Would very much recommend a visit here if ever in Edinburgh, especially as it is so close to the city centre if you fancy a good walk, and really nearby to transport links if you're feeling less energetic.

    « Wedding »

Our wedding was wonderful at the Braidhills House Hotel, we were lucky to have good weather and so we're married outside on the balcony. Tracey and the rest of the staff could not have done more, we were absolutely spoiled and genuinely had the best day of our lives with our families and friends. Our bridal suite with four poster bed was gorgeous and so comfortable after a full night of dancing :) stunning views over Edinburgh and the castle. All of our guests have commented on how well they have thought of the hotel, organisation, the wonderfully welcoming staff and amazing food. I can't wait for our anniversary visit next year ;) Many many thanks and see you soon xx

Excellent stay. Everything was perfect. Staffs very friendly, nice service, very clean rooms. The breakfast and dinner was very beautiful. I rightly recommend. Very easy access to the central city by bus or taxi.

    « Lovely old place »

Beautiful traditional hotel with amazing views across Edinburgh. Room was stunning, so individual, a lovely change from chain hotel standards. Breakfast was great. Only criticisms are: no beans for breakfast :( and they could do with trays to carry your breakfast to your table from the buffet. Lovely happy friendly staff. Highly recommended

    3
    « Nice atmosphere »

We spent one nice in that hotel. We were five. We had the chance to be upgraded. We received really nice room. However, our room was really freezing cold. No possibility to heat it up. In the morning we hardly got up due to the temperature. We even had some mist on the window. We, the 5 of us, found the bed not that comfortable. Anyway, the personal were nice and available.

    5
    « Why isn't this#1 »

This is truly a lovely hotel. First class. It has a 24 hour bar, breakfast which is all you can eat and includes everything you would want to eat. The rooms are lovely, clean, and fresh. The staff are excellent too. It is a little out of town but has a bar in the hotel so suited us just fine. We were there until late! My friend and I were touring Scotland on motorbikes. This was an excellent base for the first night of the tour. We booked last minute after arriving in town. Next time we will book this hotel as a planned destination

« Back to an old friend »

Another business trip to Edinburgh. Lovely hotel. A little out of town, but only a short taxis ride if needed. But if you don't mind stretching your legs, 20 mins down the hill is a good selection of shops, bars & restaurants. Staff are all lovely and very friendly. There are some smaller rooms, which are all nice and very clean, but the larger rooms are really spacious and to be recommended. The only small issue I have is that you wouldn't want to eat in the restaurant more than one night. Menu is nice, but limited. I think they would do a better trade if they offered a better choice of bar food in addition/ alternative to the restaurant. Breakfast, similarly nice, but could do with more variation. Have already booked for my next visit to the area, but think they could make a few small changes which could have a big impact.

« Best value, beautiful views »

Really enjoyed staying at this hotel and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. We have not stayed at a Best Western for many years, but will definitely be doing so in the future. The view is beautiful, especially sitting on the outside deck of the bar area. Plenty of parking spaces if you have a car. Bus stop in front of hotel if need. Food was good and staff was friendly and very helpful.

    5
    « Excellent Hotel »

This hotel is just amazing from check in to check out. Check In Staff were very welcoming and friendly nothing was to much trouble, both breakfast and the restaurant were amazing. We only paid a extra £20.00 for a classic double room with a view which is a upgrade from the standard classic double room, our room overlooked the park and you could see the pentland hills, best £20.00 i have spent and would definatley. recommend

« Nice property, a bit out of the way »

Very good experience at Braid Hills. Very nice room with upscale large bathroom. Food quality and bar ambiance/service first rate. Ate at restaurant 2 evenings in a row as we found the food most satisfactory

« Spring visit to Braidhills »

Nice old hotel in lovely residential area. Hotel well decorated and staff very friendly. We went as a family of five - 3 adults and two preschool children. Elderly grandma spent the whole weekend in the hotel during the day and enjoyed the company of the reception staff and lunchtime menu. We found the hotel great for our children, room was lovely and easy access to the city centre by bus for day trips.

    5
    « Edinburgh's finest »

Although a bit further out of the city, there is an excellent bus service right outside the hotel - for me I would prefer the peace and quiet with easy transport links, rather than everything being on your doorstep but noisy & hectic.

    5
    « Wonderful service »

Service is wonderful. Every time we visit the staff goes out of their way to make sure we are happy. We love the new room updates. Rooms are beautiful and clean. Breakfast is lovely and fresh. We have stayed here 3 times and plan to visit again!

    5
« We keep coming back! »

We have stayed at the Braid Hills several times over the last 2 years and always have a great experience. We stayed during the fringe, and hada great room looking towards the castle. As usual service was excellent and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

    « Great hotel »

Stayed for 3 nights for a birthday surprise. Our room was amazing, very spacious and modern with a huge and very comfortable bed. This is a beautiful hotel with really lovely staff who were all helpful and friendly. There is a bus stop right outside with frequent buses to and from the city centre. We loved it all and will definitely be back.

    5
    « Absolutely recommendable! »

Very friendly staff, great breakfast, clean and trendy room, would stay there anytime again. Hotel is only some minutes from my son's student apartment so this was very handy. On our next Edinburgh visit we know where to stay!

    4
    « Enjoyable stay »

The hotel sits in a commanding position on the south-side of Edinburgh, with great views over the city. There is a lovely terrace outside the restaurant and lounge bar, which makes the most of the view, and in the lobby there is comfortable and ample seating. A frequent bus service to the city centre is just a couple of minutes walk. Our room was in the annex. It was very light and had a spacious en suite. It was also nice and quiet, in spite of the busy road nearby. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet with a reasonable selection of good quality items (although the black pudding was rather dried out). We also enjoyed a well prepared and tasty dinner in the restaurant. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and helped to make our stay most enjoyable. We would certainly stay there again.

    « Family friendly hotel »

We have visited the Braids on a number of occasions, and it just keeps getting better. They looked after us splendidly when my sister hosted her birthday party here in January 2016. The service they gave us was wonderful and the attention to detail was exemplary which made for a wonderful evening and a very happy memory for my sister, family and friends.

« Good value for money »

Stayed a few times at braids hills when looking for a bargain trip to Edinburgh. A bus ride into city centre, bus stop immediately opposite hotel. If you like walking , lovely walks close by, ask at reception- very helpful staff. Rooms been refurbished since our first visit. Would def recommend

« Lovely hotel with excellent service »

We stayed at the hotel for one night on our way home after a stay in the Highlands. Everything about our stay was outstanding - a warm welcome on arrival, a beautiful clean room, excellent meal in the restaurant and a hearty breakfast. All staff were friendly and attentive and seemed to enjoy their work. Will definitely stay again. The views across Edinburgh are amazing with the added bonus of glorious sunsets.

    3
« Good Service But All A Bit Tired »

Very good staff but the hotel is looking a bit shabby and needs a bit of refurbishment. Food in the restaurant was reasonable value but is very basic and not the place to order a salad unless you like plenty of onion in it! Certainly not worth close to £100.00 for B & B, plenty of better places for similar prices. It is also a taxi or bus ride out of the city.

« Solid four star hotel »

The room was large and well appointed; bathroom nice design and fixtures. However, there were other rooms which were much smaller. Building was a large home at some point, Best Western bought it recently and remodeled, so all the rooms are different. They could have placed the furniture a bit differently, for TV viewing. Very quiet residential neighborhood, which is why I chose it. Easy to get to the main roads but not needing to drive through Edinburgh (which is a nightmare). Take the bus, stop was right outside the hotel. We had some issues with keys not working but no big deal. Breakfast bar was basic, nothing exciting, but tasty. Restaurant for dinner was a bit pricey. The hotel was quiet. They actually had a big wedding reception starting as we arrived, and I was concerned about the noise, but didn't hear a thing all night. Pleasant staff. Had no problem with adequate onsite parking (free). We would stay here again. Price was reasonable. Nicely appointed common spaces, library too. Solid four star hotel. This hotel is out of the way and not a lot of restaurants nearby.

    « Excellent! »

Me and my husband stayed here for the night for our short honeymoon. We booked a deluxe double room and it did not disappoint! Absolutely beautiful - best hotel we have ever stayed in - we were provided with a complimentary bottle of bubbly which was such a lovely touch. Claire on reception is such a nice lady and super friendly! When we arrived we were told our room was above the function room and there was a wedding on, we were then asked if that was ok or if we would like to be moved. Because we are not miserable we said it was fine (music went off at 1am like any other wedding function and we had no problem with it what so ever) most hotels have weddings every weekend so if you don't want to hear the music, don't book into a hotel ?? food was brilliant, breakfast was the same. We have already decided to come back for our anniversary!

Nice llooking hotel, not too far from the centre, entering the room their was a little smell of damp,as we were only in and showered and out no real issue, on return around 22.00 we had a drink in the bar not too expensive, but heading to the room we realised their was a wedding venue (disco) on.which was very loud till 1am which is the last thing you want on a night away from home! The breakfast was inclusive with variety but I found the fried food not so!

« Off center, but very good place to stay »

This hotel is not in the city center, which is a disadvantage, but the service is very good: very friendly, good quality breakfast with nice diversity in warm and cold dishes, good bed and clean bathroom.

Braids Hill Hotel is an excellent hotel to use whilst staying in Scotland, it is conveniently located on the south side of Edinburgh. The rooms are very good and the staff are very professional but approachable

    « Great Hotel »

I have stayed here before. It has now been refurbished and it is lovely. The rooms have been renovated sympathetically as have all the public places in the hotel. My only down points were the height of the television which could give you a sore neck (although I do understand why it was situated in its position) and the bedside lamps had black shades which gave no light for reading etc. Breakfast was lovely. As we were visiting family I cannot comment on the restaurant at lunchtime or in the evenings. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Even if you are attending the Edinburgh festival. It is a little way out of the city but the bus is very quick and very reasonably priced.

« Fantastic Views over Edingburgh »

Wonderful hotel, we had a fantastic room , with a great view of Edinburgh. Very attentive staff would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing /Romantic week end break. Fridge in room would have been nice, but staff were happy to supply Ice Bucket for Champagne.

    « Best all rounder »

We stay here time and time again when visiting relatives in Edinburgh. The staff are the best nothing too much trouble. The rooms have been refurbished to a really good standard. Toiletries, tea/coffee in room. The bus stop into town is just down the steps at the side of the hotel every 10/15 minutes. What could be handier. Internet access good according to my daughter.

« EXCELLENT ARRANGEMENTS FOR WAKE »

I was there for a wake last September. The arrangements and food were excellent, though the staff had to be reminded to bring one of the items! The 30 of us were able to sit on the terrace in front of the hotel in the warm afternoon sun. I'm told the rooms are good as well.

    « Disapointing »

Despite good first impression and friendly reception staff stay was dis appointing - 1st room had broken wardrobe door, room smelt, no iron, phone broken. Housekeeping v helpful, moved us - 2nd room lovely and provided iron and board. Breakfast very disappointing, it felt like cueing for school dinners, and we had to make several visits to collect the cooked breakfast, as they ran out. Food was only luke warm. We were only there for 1 night and paid nearly £200 and don't feel that we got value for money at all.

    « Wedding at Hotel - Excellent »

We attended a wedding at the Braid Hills hotel last Friday and it was superb. Tracey and her events team made everyone feel incredibly welcome and nothing was too much trouble for her and her enthusiastic team. The Wedding meal was fantastic and all the guests were raving about the quality of the food. We did not have great weather for the wedding but that was more than made up for by all involved at Braid Hills Hotel, would thoroughly recommend for anyone wishing to book a wedding or function.

    « Very Nice Hotel »

Braid Hills Hotel is a very pleasant hotel, our check in was excellent, we had booked a standard double room but they upgraded us to a better room at no extra cost. The room was large and very nicely decorated, the furnishings were excellent and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and had everything you could need. The breakfast was well cooked with plenty to choose from. Although the hotel in quite a way outside the city centre, there is an excellent bus service into the centre from just across the road from the hotel, the number 11 runs every 8 minutes. The only negative is that there are lots of stairs, we had to go up the stairs then down stairs to get to our room, however we certainly would stay there again and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to fellow travellers.

« The BEST staff, fantastic breakfast, beautiful property, nice rooms! »

Can't say enough. The staff were wonderful, especially Wayne who took a difficult evening and fixed it all! While he was sorting out our problems, made sure we were seated comfortably and offered tea! the hotel has a very fine restaurant, with excellent food. Dinner was marvelous with a nice wine list. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. They served full Scottish breakfast including potato scones, sausage, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, etc. The hotel is away from the main bustle of the town which means during festival time you can actually sleep. The hotel is beautiful inside and out, gives the feelings of a small castle, but totally modern rooms. The bathrooms are lovely and newly redone. The beds are nice. The lobby even has a library for guest use. There is a beautiful park that is just down the hill with a creek running through it and this makes for lovely walks. As with most historic buildings, you will walk up to your room although they have a bellman to take your bags, just ask! They have wifi internet as well.

    « Overnight stay »

We booked this hotel on spec when we arranged our tickets to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The staff at reception were excellent and made us feel very welcome. They helped us to arrange a taxi to the Castle and nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely and exceptionally comfortable. We had a bar snack and it was delicious, would recommend the haggis bon bons. If we go back to Edinburgh I'd definitely stay there again 5* from me.

« No lift and huge stairs »

This hotel is not close to the city or eating establishments. Got quite a shock that there were no lifts in the building. Very hard if you are an international visitor with relevant luggage to negotiate getting to the third floor rooms. Would not recommend for middle aged people.

    « Excellent meal »

I was recently here on business and we ate in the restaurant. My meal was excellent (fish pie), and the service was to a professional standard. We were served within good time, even though a wedding reception meal was taking place concurrently. Very impressed

« Ok, but not more than that »

Welcome at reception was good. Free parking and good wifi. No elevator, while our room was on the 2nd floor. When we opened the cabinet we found a pair of used socks....how can that happen if room service works properly? Worst breakfast during our 10 day UK&Scotland trip. Butter not refrigerated at all ? Please.. Staff during breakfast seemed to be bored or maybe they just had to get up too early. Overall package does not justify the price. Can not recommend at all.

« Quaint, charming hotel with great service. »

Our family stayed here and we loved the place. It's a charming building with plaid carpets, and stained glass windows overlooking a nice park. It's got a bus stop just down some stairs, which made getting around the city quite easy; this was good, considering the hotel isn't right in the middle of the city, but we got family bus passes during our stay on the advice of one of the staff. Our room had a lovely view of the city. It was very quiet. The bathrooms were very nice and spacious. The breakfast was nice (my husband enjoyed the kippers, which are by request). Everyone working here was very friendly and helpful and eager to offer recommendations and advice when we needed anything. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Fantastic week »

I've just spent a week at the Braids Hill Hotel as part of a trip back to the UK from the New Zealand. It was a great spot, easy for friends and family to join me. My room was on the small side, but very comfortable with a new ensuite shower (with a rain head as well) and coffee/tea making facilities. We enjoyed the restaurant almost every night - the food was great and the serving staff were excellent. The wifi worked well. Although out of town, it is easy to get to Princes Street on the number 11 which stops virtually outside. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be going back again!

    « Hot summer night »

The hotel has free parking and a bar that is open late. That was the highlight of my visit. The room was a sauna and didn't have a fan or any way of cooling it down. The bathroom was remodeled and very luxurious. The ambiance of the hotel was slightly creepy but it is also its charm. I wouldn't of wanted to stay here as a solo traveler.

    « Braid Hills Hotel »

Lovely hotel, really nice, helpful staff who made everything run very smoothly. Good meals, lots of choice for breakfasts. The sound proofing was very good as well on our 2nd night there was function going on, we thought that we would have been kept awake by noise but once in our room which was only 4 doors away from it we couldn't hear a thing it was brilliant. Great to stay in a hotel the at the channels advertised actually work. Would definitely go back and stay again when ever we could, recommend it highly.

« Pleased with all aspects of our stay. »

We stayed in one of the 'Club Rooms' which were across the car park from the hotel. Modern, clean and very comfortable. We had our evening meal and breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. Great food and excellent service. Hotel had free car parking. We'll definitely be back.

We got stuck at an awful hotel... Looked at the reviews for here and tried our luck... What a surprise... Extremely welcoming and helpful staff. our room was beautiful a little bit small but not a problem. Very very clean, plenty of plug sockets! Alarm clock with iPhone charger too! Big tv on the wall with loads of channels. Shower was good hot water and a good flow rate. Beautifully decorated. Restaurant food was very nice and very well priced. Will be coming here again 100%

« Nice hotel, no sleep »

The hotel is nice and the view is lovely. Our complaint is that we were assigned room 205, and were not told there would be a wedding reception that evening. The music and DJ were clearly heard in our room until 1 AM, and at 3 AM it sounded like the staff was restocking. We had very little sleep, and when we talked to the receptionist, her response was an apparent lack of concern. Very disappointing and we would not stay there again.

    « Definitely going back »

An absolutely lovely hotel, raised high up and overlooking many views of Edinburgh. There is a regular bus service which stops directly outside the hotel which is great for getting into the centre of town, takes about 20-25 mins We went in on the off chance there would be a room available, there were no standard rooms left so settled for a more expensive one, but then the receptionist upgraded us to a luxury room, and what a room, it had a bay window, fitted with a window seat and table, the tea and coffee making area was nicely concealed, complete with a little sink and fridge. The other side of the concealed area was a concealed desk and chair. The floor had a lovely thick carpet and was completed with a king size bed. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was modern with a fantastic shower in it. The staff were exceptional in every degree. We didn't have an evening meal but the breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked, plentiful and well served.Have already booked a return visit.

    « Suprisingly Good »

Not expensive so didn't expect much as a colleague had booked for a Business meeting, but was pleasantly surprised. Great view and location over Edinburgh. Rooms small but nice. Bar is great and might have spent a bit of time there. Parking a bit tricky when full if you have a big car, next time I'll bring the Mini ! Staff really good, but best was the value compared to city centre and it's not that far away, especially by Taxi

    « Will return »

We stayed Saturday night here,we stayed here 33yrs ago so we were curious too see how it had stood up to time, well we couldn't have been more impressed if we tried. It was an absolute delight to be able to return and find the quality, if anything had definately improved over the years. So trendy now,the room we had was fantastic,a wee bit private garden out the back, through a wee kitchen, very nice. The bathroom was so beautifully decorated, very tastefull, great shower, the room itself was very comfortable as was the bed,and the room was spotlessly clean too. The breakfast was excellent and of good quality,i asked for poached eggs and that was no problem. The staff at all levels were so nice and accommodating, makes all the difference. We got the bus into city and got taxi back at night, £8 50,very reasonable. Definately use the hotel again, great value for money and great service from all.

fabulous hotel, lovely building, so very well presented, staff were attentive and always happy to help. We were upgraded to a room with a view, which was unexpected and a bonus.. Facilities were excellent. comfortable bed, clean, well furnished, again well presented and a fab stand alone shower. Lovely buffet style breakfast and made me a lovely veggie breakfast on request, which was tasty too. We had one evening meal there which was excellent, the wine choices were good too. While the hotel is about 2 miles out of the city centre, there was a bus stop opposite with frequent buses which made the hotel perfect for us. Thank you again and we look forward to visiting again.

« Excellent hotel with superb views of the city »

This is fantastic gem of a hotel ideally situated for getting into the city centre. The hotel offers some fabulous views over the city from both the reception bar and the outside seating area. On arrival at the hotel you find very pleasant and helpful reception staff. Check in is a slick operation. The rooms have all recently been refurbished to high standard and you would be forgiven for thinking you were in a five star luxury hotel. Bed was very comfortable and a great shower in the morning. Bar is well appointed with a great selection of beers and spirits and it is all exceptionally reasonably priced for the city (no rip off at the bar !), didn't have dinner in the hotel due to the lure of the city ! Breakfast was great, fantastic selection of traditional Scottish, to continental, self service so eat as much as you want. All in all this is a brilliant hotel, well positioned, with first class friendly staff ! Highly recommend it.

    « Superb hotel »

I loved my stay at this hotel. I was there for 2 nights and I wish I could stay for more. Lovely and friendly staff - right from checkin to checkout everyone was very pleasant and helpful. One guy (bald) serving dinner (on 29th June) was particularly very nice and friendly. I celebrated my birthday at 12 that night and he helped my husband arrange for a nice surprise cake. He also helped us to plan our future journey to highlands. A wonderful guy! Good rooms - rooms were very big, clean and rich decor. It had everything in it. Good natural light. Superb view. Good hot water in bathroom. Really impressive. Good wifi - the rooms actually had good wifi connection!! Good breakfast - had lot of variety and good taste. Location - slightly out of the city but well connected with 11 number bus service. Both the days we could easily manage our travel. Once even when our return journey was post 11 pm. A nice open green area in front of the hotel was very nice and scenic. I would surely recommend this hotel to everyone.

    « Quite Comfortable hotel »

Hotel about 15 minutes outside Edinburgh. We stayed there for a night. We were placed in the annex in a nice room but felt a bit out of it. The room was accessed by a steep staircase which was a bit of a struggle, A little disappointed that we were offered no help in getting the room especially in the rain. The evening meal was quite nice but not exceptional; The breakfast was good.

A really well situated hotel just outside central Edinburgh but in easy reach by car or public transport. Comfortable room with nice view, generous sized double bed and very clean. We liked the traditional building in keeping with the city and the convenience of bar and restaurant. Plenty of easy parking in the hotel grounds. Recommended

    « Highly recommended »

I stayed in this hotel 25 years ago for a sales conference. Haven't returned to Edinburgh since but this time I was looking for somewhere for a vacation trip with my wife and remembered that I had positive impressions last time, so booked on line for a 3 night visit. This hotel was good last time around for a business meeting. This time it proved an excellent base as a tourist. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough as a base for a holiday visit to Edinburgh. If you arrive by car, access from the A720 Edinburgh by-pass is simple and convenient. We had lots of places to visit in the city but, after a short analysis, concluded that our hire car wasn't particularly practical to get around - the traffic is something of a nightmare and parking often problematic. Thus we ditched the car (ample free parking at the hotel) and opted to use public transport. I have to say the bus system is superb! Frequent services and ride all day for £4 - and the bus stop is adjacent to the hotel, what more could you ask? The hotel itself - apart from the location and views of Edinburgh, which are without parallel? I don't bother to write many reviews on this website, others have said it all before me so I don't feel I can add anything. On this occasion though I would like to say that my wife and I had a wonderful 3 days based here on our visit to Edinburgh. Without exception, from the staff on reception, through all of those in the restaurant to the chambermaids, everyone was friendly, helpful and attentive. A credit to them and also the hotel management. The hotel is decorated and maintained to a very high standard and considerably better than the others (of the same star rating) we stayed at during our tour of Scotland. The service and food in the restaurant were both excellent and the prices for food and drinks very fair. If this is a norm for the Best Western chain of hotels I will certainly look to use them again as it is a first class advert. Just one word of caution, if you have trouble managing the stairs, ask for a room as close as possible to the ground floor as the hotel, as we were told, has no lift. With this caveat I would not hesitate to recommend it to the discerning holidaymaker or business visitor to Edinburgh.

    « Worth a Visit »

An impressive hotel situated at the top of a hill overlooking the suburbs of Edinburgh. There are two terraces with tables and chairs with great views. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food is very good (and generous!), and it's reasonably priced. All in all, an excellent hotel.

« Fantastic spot for a family break! »

We have just returned from a 4 night stay and had to write a review, we were so pleased with our holiday. We were a family of four, 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 & 7 and had booked a deluxe/family room. On arrival all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, our room was fantastic, and possibly the best family room we have ever had certainly in this country. There was plenty of space in the sleeping area and a small kitchen area complete with cupboard space, small fridge and sink, a real help when you are travelling with younger children. The children slept on a sofa bed and we had a double (actually two singles together so you could go twin) and all were very comfy. There is a huge tv in the room and plenty of wardrobe space, armchairs and a coffee table. As we had rather luckily timed our visit to Edinburgh during a freak heatwave we had afternoon tea on the terrace when we arrived, the food was lovely and all freshly made. The hotel is situated a very short walk to the bus stop with frequent buses down into town, there is a steep set of steps however so the hill may be preferable if you have buggies or wheelchairs. Opposite the hotel is a really lovely park with plenty of space for kids to run around in and a lovely stream running through it. The hotel breakfast was lovely, a buffet style with plenty of choice, all staff at breakfast were attentive and friendly. We ate at the hotel a few times and due to the weather were able to eat out on the terrace, you have spectacular views all round and can see the castle from the hotel. I can highly recommend the sharing platters! I am genuinely surprised this hotel is only 3 stars, it really did surpass our expectations. If you are looking for a city break to Edinburgh but don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of town this is THE perfect spot, we were so impressed and happy with our stay we will be returning close to Christmas to enjoy the festivities then. Highly recommended!!

« Overall I was very pleased with this hotel. The view from my room was beautiful. The room itself was very clean and comf »

I stayed at the Braid Hills Hotel for two nights earlier this week. Overall I was very pleased with the hotel and the staff, especially the ladies at the reception desk who were very friendly and helpful. The view from my room was beautiful and the room itself spotless and extremely comfortable. The only negative point was that I did not receive the 4.15 am wake-up call I had requested in order to get to the airport for an early flight. The (extremely friendly) lady at reception who helped me order my taxi assured me this would be no problem. Luckily, I woke up myself at 4.30 am (goodness knows how) and just managed to make it down in time to pay my bill and get the taxi to the airport. The gentleman at the reception did not really appear to be bothered by the fact I had not received this call (I think he had been hoovering at the other side of the hotel when I came downstairs and was probably unaware I had requested it - I didn't have time to investigate further). However, if I had not woken up myself without an alarm, I might have missed my flight.

« Great place to say »

Only stayed for one night, great room, had a great view. We were on the top floor, no lift, so if you not great with stairs make sure you get a ground floor room. Maybe a bit far out. There was a bus stop very close buy though. Friendly staff. Car park got full, we had to park on the street, but was free.

    « Mid Budget Hotel »

Had a nice room that had been refurbished, but still retaining the character, pity that a little more wasn't spent removing the few old flatpack style items of furniture though. Overall a pleasant stay with very help full and pleasant staff. Found out later that it was the Edinburgh Marathon weekend hence perhaps the price which way to high for this level of hotel.

    « Collinton Dinner »

Stayed here for a night while at dinner in Colinton. Picked on location but very pleasantly surprised. Large room newly done up. Slightly strange tv above wardrobe but avoided crick in neck! Staff friendly. Did not eat but dining room looked good and pleasant place to sit. If do not want to stay in centre certainly worth a thought.

Steep flight of stairs from Street so access to city is difficult with luggage. No elevator inside either. otherwise lovely old fashioned hotel. « Lovely hotel, dreadful cooked breakfast. »

I like Best Western Hotels. Their atmosphere evokes staying at old country houses, without the tedium of having to spend the afternoon shooting at defenceless birds, before breaking your teeth on unremoved pellets, when they are served up for dinner later on in your stay. The staff are usually attentive and friendly and the food is usually good. I found a late deal for a single room here. I had been expecting a broom cupboard, but the room was a good size for a single, had obviously been recently refurbished, was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. I was welcomed by friendly staff when I arrived and soon settled in for a good night's sleep, looking forward to the rare treat of a cooked breakfast. So far, all good. I do not function very well in the morning without that first cup of coffee when I wake up. A minor irritation I know, but there was no coffee on the hot drinks tray in the room. Not only did I not have time to call anyone, but I did not feel that the good staff of Braid Hills Hotel were ready for the sight of me in PJs at that time of the morning so, after a quick shower, I headed down for breakfast. The reason I have not given 5 stars is that the cooked, buffet breakfast was a dreadful disappointment from start to finish. The staff were friendly and helpful. I walk with the aid of a stick and a very nice young man called Adam ran round after me, carrying things I could not manage. He brought fresh coffee, which I really should have drunk to fortify me for the toaster/incinerator experience which followed. The toaster is one of those conveyor belt types that you put bread in at the top, go off to get your breakfast and then usually come back to find that someone else has taken your toast from the bottom and you have to start again whilst the rest of your meal goes cold. Not so this time, as the settings on the toaster were such that my bread was metamorphised into 2 smouldering lumps of charcoal. Lack of coffee, combined with my shock at the state of the buffet started to take its toll. Young Adam manfully stepped up to make me some more toast whilst I went to sit down. There are a few items like kippers that you can order direct from the kitchen. I ordered fried eggs from the kitchen and they were ok. Other than that, the hot food was in steam heated containers from which you could help yourself. The bacon was piled so high that the lid would not fit on the container. It was flaccid and bland and horrible. It tasted steamed and was barely luke warm. The scrambled eggs looked revolting, they had a greeny greyish tinge and were solidified lumps sitting in watery fluid. The mushrooms were cold. Wet on the outside and raw in the middle. I am not sure if they were supposed to be steamed or boiled, but they were neither, and tasted horrible. The tomatoes were cooked on the outside, raw in the middle and tasteless. It was a massive disappointment. I had to dash to a meeting, or I would have taken this up with the hotel. I feel that it let them down terribly. Judging by the different nationalities at the breakfast tables, there are people in more than a few parts of the world that think that a full Scottish breakfast is a foul and flaccid thing. Most of them had cereal. You may think that this is a lot of fuss about a breakfast, but to me breakfast is as important as bed. I had a very good deal, but had I had to pay the £14.95 that the breakfast was advertised at, I would have demanded a refund. The quality of the food could be improved a thousand fold if it were cooked on demand. This would be more labour intensive, but would save a lot of wasted food and make for a lot of happier customers who would want to return. Even with the deal, I don't think I would go back, as I would prefer to stay somewhere where the breakfast is good.

    « Great weekend »

What a lovely stay! The receptionists were very welcoming. Our rooms had been upgraded and both were beautiful. A secret staircase in mine led to an upstairs double bed. Very comfortable twin beds in the main part of the room with exceptionally clean ensuite. Breakfast was buffet-style and it had a great selection. Would love to go back!

    « Short break »

Had a very good stay here. We booked the executive room which had wonderful views over the valley in front of the hotel. The room was spacious and elegantly decorated. The bathroom had both a bath and over bath shower. Water in the room was replenished when empty. The hotel staff were friendly and the food was good. The breakfast whilst a buffet was kept well stocked and had good haggis portions too. The hotel had a good relaxed atmosphere. We felt this hotel exceeded its star rating which may be due to lack of a lift (we were asked on arrival if we wanted help with the luggage), or some facilities but this did not detract from a great stay.

    4
« Good hotel, not too far from the city centre »

Stayed over the weekend. Room was at the back and small. But other rooms looked good and spacious. Worth requesting larger rooms with elevated views, as we looked out at the car park. Public areas are great and well furnished, ditto the bar and restaurant. Terrace area looks good too. Worth a visit and good car parking, which is hard to find in Edinburgh.

I have stayed her a few times now, on business and love the location. The staff are really friendly, on reception, bar and restaurant. There is plenty of parking and the rooms are fine with comfy beds. This time, though, I was a little disappointed with the food, both evening meal and breakfast. Breakfast, particularly, wasn't as good as I remember it on previous occasions.

    « Best western Edinburgh »

All staff were helpful and polite. Family Bedrooms were clean and spacious. We had some problems with the evening meals on the first night. Reception discounted our meals at the end of our stay. Breakfasts had a good variety of hot and cold items on offer. Despite our problem on the first evening with the meal I would stay in this hotel again.

Very good breakfasts although a bit of a scramble on a sunday morning. OK on other days. Staff very friendly and helpful. Brilliant views over the city of Edinburgh from bedroom. Will certainly visit againn

    « Views & Zoos »

I treated myself and hubbie to a little trip to Edinburgh so I could go to see the pandas at the zoo. I chose the Braid Hills cos it has turrets! We had a fabulous view from our room right over the city, the Firth, wish I had brought my binoculars!. Bed was very comfy, staff were very friendly and the chef cooked our steaks just the way we like them! And I did get to see the panda. I would definitely stay there again if in the area. By the way, Pooh loved the statement chairs in the dining room!

« Refurbished bedrooms really make a difference »

When I visited this hotel in 2014 I thought the bedrooms and particularly the bathrooms were looking a little tired. The clan room I stayed in April 2016 has benefitted enormously from a refurbishment. The bathroom is now very modern, functional and spacious and bedroom was roomy and well appointed. We were there for a wedding in the hotel and the catering staff did a great job. My son-in-law, who was a student in Scotland in the 90's indulged his carefree memories of potato scones, black pudding and haggis (all for breakfast) and a lorne sausage bap (or buttie) for a late night snack (it's an acquired taste!). Well done Braids Hill and thanks for a great rate as a wedding guest.

    « Birthday treat »

We booked for 2 nights 20th and 21st April for my birthday. On arrival were met by a very pleasant lady on reception who may have been the general manager. It was nice to be met by someone who was genuinely interested in their guests. The room was stunning (202), immaculate and with views over Edinburgh. We needed to have an early dinner one night as we were going to the theatre and needed to eat right on the six o'clock start time for dinner. We asked Simon on reception if we could have our meals cooked and ready for 6 exactly and he could not have been more helpful, phoning the kitchen and pre ordering our meals. The kitchen staff had our meals ready for 6 o'clock and we were in and out by twenty past. We left the car at the hotel and used the bus which stops by the hotel, at £4 for a day ticket. All of the staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and we would recommend Braid hills hotel unreservedly.

« Lovely staff, lovely terrace, but food lacking a wee bit....... »

We wanted as it was a lovely sunny afternoon, to go eat on the terrace of this hotel. It was open when we visited, We ordered starters and main courses, wine water and cider. Starters were great, goats cheese tart and salad, lentil soup and chicken wings coated in coriander and ? cannot remember exactly but my son loved them. Main courses, both myself and husband had fish coujons, and chips, 3 large coujons 2 were lovelyband moist, cooked very well, one dry, each plate.. What let the plates down really were the fat chips, they were lightly cooked and soft, not crispy at all.. My son asked for the burger which were told could not be asked for ie, rare, medium etc, just as it comes, well it was very dry. He left most of it. and of course the chips were as ours were, soft and not crispy, the lovely waitress asked if everything was ok, my sone being embarrassed, said it was ok, he wasnt that hungry, but I said, no, the burger was dry! when the bill came, the waitress said, its ok, we have taken the soup ? off the bill as the burger wasnt good! I couldnt believe this, why the soup , when it was the burger that was dry and the chips were horrid? Not good customer service, not from the waitress, I have a feeling she didnt have the deciding vote. Shame really as its a nice place and nice setting. But will not be back now........

« Fantastic stay and great value for money. »

We recently stayed in the hotel for one evening and could not be happier. When we arrived we were promptly checked in and informed that we had a complimentary upgrade to a suite. When we arrived in our room we were delighted with the facilities and very luxurious furnishings. The room was very quite and a very comfortable temperature and we had a great nights sleep. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and all staff were very friendly. We requested a late check out and this was honoured at not extra cost. Upon returning home we realised my husband had left his phone charger in the room. We had a very quick response to our email and our charger arrived the very next day. Thank you very much, we hope that we will have future reason to come and stay again and would recommend anyone to stay here.

Very good hotel, excellent staff & Service, however, no SKY Sports and price of a pint is extortionate. Meals are excellent value and high quality, I can highly recommend the Haggis Bon Bons...to die for.

« Good Value for Money »

Six of us had an overnight at this hotel. Like other reviews, staff were very friendly, we arrived at 12.30pm, not expecting to get into our rooms, however rooms were ready so gave us the keys. Was very imprest by the size of the rooms and having a fridge to cool the wine was great. The decor in the rooms is good, nice clean and fresh. We had our evening meal in the hotel and the food was excellent, as was the service. Breakfast in the morning again no complaints, plenty of choice. We did not venture into the city centre, however observed the number 11 bus regularly going past hotel. Would we go back again, without a doubt. We had a good deal from Classic Britain website, DBB £63 each, well worth it.

« Lovely, warm and comfortable »

Stayed at this hotel for two nights, whilst visiting family in Edinburgh. My wife and I were given a lovely large, warm, well equipped and nicely furnished room. The double bed was enormous and very comfortable. It seemed that the room had been recently re-furnished. The carpet appeared to be new and the bathroom fittings were very stylish and also seemed to be new. There was a large screen T.V., coffee and tea making facilities, ample storage space and even a small kitchen area with a small fridge and sink. The self-service breakfast was superb. All the staff were very pleasant and efficient. We certainly hope to re-visit this lovely hotel.

    « Relaxing overnight stay »

This was our seconds visit to this hotel. Our first visit was disappointing as we had booked a basic room which was of quite poor standard. This time we booked a deluxe room which was a winner. The room was large and the decor was very impressive. The bed was comfortable and to our surprise the end of the bed revealed a TV. This was a first for us. The bathroom was very clean and the shower was nice and hot. The reception, bar and dinning room staff all very professional and friendly. My husband's steak meal was very good. I chose the fish pie which was nothing special and tasted a little bland. Our desserts again nothing special. The bar area was nice and we spent a few relaxing hours there after our meal. My husband and I did enjoy our stay at this hotel and I'm sure we will visit again.

« Nice Hotel. Good Value »

Upon arrival was greater by very pleasant staff. Promptly dealt with and asked if I needed assistance with luggage. Stayed in room 330. Very nice spacious and newly decorated. One nice little extra it has a small sink kettle and fridge no having to use bathroom to fill kettle. A large comfortable bed with great views. Bath and Shower although shower wasn't very powerful. Very nice bar, restaurant and lounge area with good choice of food wine and beers. A nice evening meal, which unfortunately I was nearly charged for someone else's meals an overcharge of 56pounds but this was rectified on departure. A great breakfast selection too. Good value. Pleasant hotel.

« Good hotel in Edinburgh »

The hotel was good, with a very nice view of the greenery and hills. The restaurant staff was also polite and friendly. Rooms were clean and kept warm. However the hotel has very poor WI-fi connectivity in some rooms. The reception folks were advised several times about this.

« Refurbished and does what it says on the tin »

The staff here could not be more helpful and have customer care as a priority. The breakfasts were filling and the standard good. Considering the foul weather the hotel was also warm ! The hotel was convenient as we were attending a function held at the hotel. The food laid on for the function was of a really high standard. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and were pleased with what we chose. Certainly we can recommend this hotel especially for getting into town.

    « Mid week break »

Went to this hotel for a mid week break to celebrate our wedding anniversary with friend and we found the staff all very helpful, rooms very clean and tidy, breakfast was excellent but the menu for the evening meal too limited a point I made to the lady on at reception. One of the part was a Coeliac and another lactose intolerant and they were looked after very well by the dinning room staff. Location was good and a bus stop next to hotel took right into Edinburgh. Point of note senior citizens cannot use UK bus pass.

    « Lovely Hotel »

Stayed here last night, on arrival at checkin the receptionist was very welcoming asking if we needed any help with our luggage which we declined as we only had one small case. We went to our room and were pleasantly surprised at the size of it, it had a little kitchen area with plenty of tea and coffee, a beautiful spacious bathroom with a decent bath and a shower with one large shower head and another hand held one lower down. The bedroom had a large supersize bed which was really comfortable, plenty of wardrobe space, a large tv which was a bit of a problem it was so high up you could only watch it by lying on the bed as there was a huge chandelier hanging in front of it, and it also reflected through the wardrobe mirror. We went into the bar for a drink before dinner, again the barman was very friendly bringing us both the bar menu and restaurant menu to look at, the bar menu was mainly snacks the restaurant menu was fairly small but some nice choices, the barman had told us to ask about the specials which we did and decided to have the chicken special , it was delicious, to follow we decided to share the cheese board and again we had made a good choice, we really enjoyed it. Breakfast you had plenty of choice, cereals, meat, cheeses, and full Scottish which we had, plenty of tea & coffee, a really good start to our day. Would love to spend more time at this hotel, spotless clean, with good staff and a great room. We spend a lot of time in Best Western hotels and I must say this is one of the best we have stayed in.

Lovely large room, full of character and fine views. Breakfasts good especially the poached eggs!! Problem with tv which they did not manage to fix in our 3 night stay but on checkout we were given a generous discount on our bill. The complaint was dealt with quickly and efficiently so we were happy. Check on booking whether a wedding is happening as our room above the function and the music till midnight quite loud.

When in Edinburgh I always stay at the Braid Hills Hotel. I find it convenient to my place of work, and the service, and overall appearance of the hotel is excellent and good value for money. I have never been disappointed.

« Good but not good value for money »

Some rooms are much better than others although they are in the same bracket of price rate. I have to change the room I first went in to due to privacy issue and the noise from the highway. I didn't have a good experience during my previous stay, but this time I was very much satisfied especially with the service. The hotel is a bit expensive for what it offers.

    3
    « Fine hotel »

Rooms are small (compared to US hotel rooms where I have travelled mostly). The room was clean and staff was good. They offer free wifi and parking. Very few food options in restaurant. There are bus stops which have direct buses to main attractions in Edinburgh but takes almost 30 mins of travel.

« short break in Edinburgh. »

Just spent a short break at this hotel on a Groupon voucher. The hotel is nicely decorated and our room was modern and spotlessly clean. The buffet breakfast had plenty of choice and satisfied our needs. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is about 4 miles from the city centre but the number 11 bus stops outside the hotel and runs about every 10 minutes and costs £1.50 (have the correct fare as no change is given). We were only in Edinburgh for 2 days but on one of those days we did the Forth bridges bus and boat tour which was a lovely afternoon out.

« Fabulous hotel, staff, food everything »

Stayed for one night on 17/3/16. Stayed in a lovely twin room with my daughter, extremely clean and welcoming with all mod cons. We went into the Brasserie for something to eat and two of the staff in particular were great in there. Sean and Miguel, nothing was too much trouble and sooo customer focused. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and good. Thank you Braid Hills we will be back soon.

    « Great Hotel! »

I loved it! I've been here twice because it is really veery good!!!! Room clean, big confy bed, everything perfect! The only criticism is about the food at the restaurant; not many choices and small portions, but very nice indeed!

    « Faultless service . Had a great trip »

would like to echo the comments by AileeenofAbbotsAnn. The staff coped brilliantly with a problem out of their control (that wasn't a problem at all to 99% of guests!!). credit to the manager's customer care skills, It was our second visit to braid hills, rooms have been refurbished since our visit last year. Our room was spacious, well equipped and impeccably clean. Restaurant food delicious, and an excellent choice on the menu. Will definitEly return again. All staff very pleasant and accommodating.

« Thanks for the upgrade! »

It must be five years since I last stayed at this hotel and, as before, I was travelling alone on business. I was aware that the rooms had been given a makeover, but what I experienced was way beyond my expectations! However, I was given an upgrade to a double rather than a single room, as I'd had before so wasn't really comparing like with like. The lovely view out past the Castle to the Firth of Forth and Fife distracted me initially from the way the room had been renovated. I loved the bathroom, particularly the shower which had both a fixed large head and a lift-down head, with user-friendly controls. Warm tiles underfoot, too. And the tea/coffee making kit had its own little sink and very practical tap for filling the kettle. The water pressure there and in the bathroom was excellent and obviously boosted as you could hear the (not very noisy) pump working. The room was warm, the radiator controllable, the bed was comfortable and the hairdryer was also unexpectedly good. I enjoyed my breakfast and loved the thought which had gone into keeping the cold food cold - a large glass-fronted display fridge held the cheeses, cold meats, fruit and yoghurt - why can't other hotels do likewise? I'm not a catering professional, but have done a basic food hygiene certificate, so I baulk at having warm meats (which should be cold!) etc elsewhere. Nearing the end of service and the hot food was still hot and not tired-looking. Full marks! I'll be back - and hope it won't be so long before I am back next time.

« We took some stories back to tell our friends! »

We stayed at Braid Hills for 4 nights last week. Well ? my partner and I feel that both guests and staff deserve Campaign Medals for surviving the week! I'm not mentioning specifics as all the problems were not obviously anyone's fault but it is worth mentioning the way the staff coped with everything ?falling apart? at once. We especially appreciated Andrea's (Manager) personal apologies and credit to her for ?holding it all together?. I am certain there will not be any more problems for the rest of the year ? the staff have had to cope with more than a year's worth in one week! So, Well Done staff at Braid Hills and we look forward to a return visit. To summarise for Trip Advisor viewers - lovely hotel, staff, location, views, parking, on bus route into City Centre - give it a try!

    « Didn't get much sleep here »

Having checked in after midnight after a long journey from the US, I was awakened before 7am by the fire alarm. Nobody came to my room to advise me to leave and when I made my way to reception to find out what was happening I was just told the hotel was not on fire, no other explanation or apology was offered. The second night of my stay there was loud music in the bar area and I was informed by reception that it would continue until about 2am at which point I had to ask to move my room to a quieter part of the hotel. This happened at about midnight also. With the exception of a Scottish lady who expedited my room move, the staff were not at all friendly or accommodating. The coffee at breakfast was instant coffee, not something American visitors will appreciate. The phones in both the rooms I occupied were not working. The rooms themselves were nicely decorated and clean.

    3
« Nice place, little sleep »

Lovely standard of decor and pleasant staff. Spotlessly clean room and good breakfast with a reasonable selection of food - soya milk offered. Sleep difficult at both ends - fire alarm fault in the evening for about half an hour and then the most incredible banging and crashing around at 5 am on the ground floor when the delivery truck arrived. Would stay again but will ask for a room on a higher floor than the first.

« Nice rooms, dour staff »

Have stayed here many times over the past few years and have seen a great refurbishment take place - the lounge and restaurant look fabulous and the rooms are of a high standard too. The reception staff are friendly and welcoming but the f&b manager person is dull as dishwater - he's been there a couple of years now but has no personality and is often to be heard talking about customers within earshot - just sit in the lounge and watch how he snaps his fingers at the younger staff members who don't know any better. If he spoke to anyone else like that he would be dismissed immediately. Restaurant staff in general are attentive, particularly at breakfast time. The new front of house lady was very friendly - had a bit of pressure on as the hotel inspector was on site- very amusing watching the extra staff brought in for that day scurrying ahead of her to ensure everything was just so! On her escorted tour the inspector bought into the delights of the refurb and the front of house manageress took pride in showing her the famous window seat that was written about and sat at by a famous historical figure - I almost wet myself when she couldn't explain why there was a picture of a dog on a grave at the entrance to the restaurant as she'd never heard of Grey Friars Bobby !! The English inspector fortunately corrected the unknowledgeable lady from Glasgow whom I'm sure will do her homework in future. Our second night was marred by a fire alarm going off at 630am - no explanation nor apology came our way. The staff are also very confused about whether guests can use the Buckstone restaurant in the hotel grounds as part of there DBB stay- some said you could and we saw them send a party of eight to it - only for them to be refused & returned to the hotel embarrassed and bewildered. It is a shame because it used to be good and the new menu in the hotel is not the best - I mean, where else do you see four pastry/tart desserts on a small menu?? We would return here but only if we knew there was an upcoming visit from the inspector again- sadly, there are nicer hotels with better facilities and staff onsite and not too far away either.

    « Great place, great hosp?tality »

Braid Hills hotel is located in a quite road a little up in the city but local bus service right in front of the hotel that takes you down to the city center in ten minutes or so.and vice versa. Wonderful view overlooking vast greenery and yet you are in the middle of the city. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly, Simon ,at the reception desk for example. The rooms are renovated, very comfortable ,very modern bathrooms, the bar and restaurant are very nice and serve very good food.In short, for families especially who want a quiet comfy place with a quick access to the city center it is an ideal place to stay... « Some rooms poor standard »

Stayed for 2 nights 21st of Jan. No heating in room for both nights and below zero outside and mould on the bathroom floor due to lifted flooring. Not sorted during stay. Emailed general manager when I returned and followed up with letter 2 weeks later but no reply to either. Definitely worth checking the room before accepting it. Staff polite and attentive apart from not reacting to room problems. Sister's room was very good.

« Much Improved, but could still do better »

Having stayed here previously, the rooms were even better than before. A spacious bedroom and a luxury bathroom was complete with a little utility area with sink and tea /coffee facilities. Being booked on an inclusive deal of dinner, B&B, we were only given the table d'hôtel menu which was extremely limited with only 3 main course options - 2 fish, one vegetarian. There were no fresh green vegetable complements and when I commented,I was told that the " inclusive" guests don't normally like green vegetables. !! It was only when enquiring after dinner, that we realised that we could have eaten from the a la carte menu menu to the value of £18. The restaurant staff need more training regarding the food being served. There is a bistro at side of the hotel, but the food served there was not part of the inclusive deal. I doubt if we will make a 3rd visit.

    « An enjoyable stay.. »

Our family of six thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. We all enjoyed the food. The restaurant staff were more than helpful.

    « Disappointing »

I attended a function which included lunch. Only a choice of two courses but there were only two options for each course. I started with the tomato and basil soup which was tasty although a companion remarked that her choice of prosciutto with was disappointing as there was little ham and the melon was hard as turnip. My main course was salmon served on crushed carrot and swede. The salmon was dry and the whole was under-seasoned. A pity they couldn't spare a spud as it seemed incomplete without.

« Was a good stay for Christmas »

MY husband and I were on our honeymoon from the continent and decided to stay at the Braid Hills for 3 days and 3 nights. We had a clean room and bath and were pleased with the amenities. We didn't do Christmas dinner there, as we were unaware how exclusive restaurants become on Christmas day. So we snacked instead. All in all this was a very satisfactory stay.

« Delicious, value for money and friendly staff. »

Compliments to the Management, Chef and Staff. I popped into this hotel on my journey home and saw they had a rather beautiful bar / bistro adjacent to the hotel - perfect for coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and evening meal. Relaxed, informal and beautifully furnished and decorated. The waitress was attentive and very pleasant. the Chef and standard of food was on point. I have not for a long while tasted a steak that was cooked to perfection and the fluffy duvet homemade chips were light and so moreish, finished with a lovely dressed salad. Well worth a visit either on your own, to meet friends or take the family for a lovely lunch or dinner. Pricing, quality and standard was spot on!

    « Mini break »

Thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at this hotel. Staff were very helpful and friendly in all areas. The only downside was the television which was very high up the wall almost touching the ceiling. Room was very nice, was very pleased with our stay here and would recommend.

« Favourite Stay in Edinburgh »

We always stay here when visiting Edinburgh, we have stayed many times, and always enjoy. It's an old-fashioned style hotel but has been refurbished and modernised in recent times. We stayed in a lovely room which just recently been upgraded with a lovely modern bathroom, new huge bed carpets and furnishings. The staff are always friendly and helpful with a cosy bar and good food both in the main restaurant and the bistro/bar in the grounds (the duck was delicious!!). They have generous off-street parking and are very close to bus stop and main thoroughfare into town - so the car stays where it is the whole weekend. The area around Morningside there has a large range of independent shops which are closeby and great for an explore. Thanks again to the Braid for a really enjoyable stay - we'll be back

    « Good value »

This a nice quality hotel, a little out from the center but as I was on business that point doesn't bother me at all. the hotel itself is a nice grand old building and the character has been kept, all the staff were very pleasant and usually greeted you with a smile, the room was clean with crisp white towels and bedding, a nice selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as bottled water and a tasty biscuit was waiting for me in the room. although my room was a little small/cramped this was alright for me as I was only staying one night. Breakfast was included on my rate and was served in a buffet style and the scrambled egg was some of the best I have tasted. Bad points if I really have to be picky, with it being of the style of building it is there is a lot of going up and down stairs, through doors, etc to get to your room, but this adds to the character of the hotel, I was not offered any bag carrying service to my room, it probably was available but it still was't offered.

Lovely hotel in morning side area. Nice break after hectic Christmas.visited beginning of January. Staff helpful and friendly. walking distance to good local shops and restaurants(20min walk) good bus service at bottom of stair on main road to take you into centre of Edinburgh. connecting bar good , nice snack food. Main bar food good. Old hotel getting a big touch of tlc and bringing back to life. Thoroughly enjoyed and would go back again.

    « Great hotel »

Stayed here on a mates weekend away and could not find fault. Even the accidential fire drill we found ourselves in the midst of was fun. The staff were so helpful and friendly and added to the ambiance of the hotel. It is a wee bit outside of the city but with an impressive bus route right outside you cannot go wrong.

    « Errrrrrrrrr...... »

Lovely building, lovely entrance, big room and serving staff were delightful.. But... TV was mounted 12 feet in the air, no joke, so you could only watch it when lying down with your eyelids pinned to the top of your head, and when we arrived we reported the phone wasn't working nor at that time was the TV. TV got quickly sorted, phone was promised to be but even 24 hours in wasn't, and was in fact broken off in the wall and left like that by the staff who'd promised they'd sorted it. Reported it again, were given a handset and the offer of a free drink to compensate... Thank you, that's kind.. Chap arrives with the drinks, looses balance in the room and throws my pint of Guinness up the wall and across my partners half of the bed. We offer towels to clean up, no offer of clean bedding or a room move as there's now Guinness everywhere... and so we carried on sleeping in our warm and comfy brewery with the smell of warm alcohol around us. It's a lovely hotel, but some thought needs to be given to maintenance standards and staff training..

    « Another great stay »

Stayed here again for a couple of days on business. Great location for getting into Edinburgh of an evening and to get to the business district just outside of the city. Hotel has gone through a refit and what was a tad tired now looks fresh and inviting. Good size bed and room. Well worth staying here.

« Good location, comfortable hotel »

Booked this hotel for the weekend of the Calcutta Cup. Prices were steep for room only, but this has to be expected during a major sporting event. Room was recently updated and was well appointed and clean. In the first room allocated the hearing was inoperative, and so was the telephone which was inconvenient. After complaining, the room was changed. We were accommodated in an annex, but it was close to the main hotel. Room facilities were good, but the lack of hot meals after approx 2130 in either room service or the restaurants was poor. In addition a £5 minimumcharge for a room service tray was considered excessive. Location outside city centre was no problem as there was a frequent bus service ( £1.50 per journey ) right into Princes Street. All in all this was a pleasant hotel. Some consideration should be given extending the hot meal service, and reducing the room service charge.

    5
    « Excellent stay »

Super staff , they are really welcoming, friendly and couldn' t do enough to help. Lovely clean comfortable rooms (if a little small). Modern up to date bathrooms. Good free wifi. would definitely recommend!! Good location. BreAkfast was good as. Was the food in the sports bar next to the hotel although menu was limited.

    3
« Lovely room, disappointing breakfast »

Stayed in one of the new executive rooms. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nicely decorated and spacious. Though how you can manage to watch three TVs beats me (there was even one in the bathroom, but so high up you couldn't watch it, unless from the bath). Friendly helpful staff, but we were disturbed one morning at 0800 by a chamber maid who didn't knock and came straight into the room. The buffet breakfast was disappointing. The food was left for too long under the heat lamps and the coffee was stewed.

    « Really nice »

Really nice hotel just on the outskirts of the town. Good food, nice bar with really good views over the city. Very clean hotel and well maintained. We booked a deluxe double but was two twins pushed together with zip lock, receptionist was disinterested when questioned on it. Not too far out of town with taxi about £9 to Royal mile.

    « Afternoon tea - dreadful service :-( »

Just been here for afternoon tea and was so disappointed. The place is lovely but the service was extremely poor. For a start the staff seemed not to know much about out reservation even though we could see our table ready and waiting for us. After getting seated we waited about 10 minutes before a mass-catering-sized pot of tea was unceremoniously put down on the table without a word from the waiter. The lack of milk and sugar made this a pretty useless start...The waiter then came over a good 5 minutes later to ask how many afternoon teas we wanted - given that there was 5 of us we asked for afternoon tea for 5. He advised that one was enough for 2 people so we thought we'd be greedy and get 3 between us. While we waited about 15 minutes for this to materialise we decided we'd need to ask for the milk and sugar which duly arrived to go with our now lukewarm and stewed pot of tea. We asked for some hot water to top up the tea and were brought a jug of cold water instead. A simple misunderstanding but not helpful when we were already a little disgruntled. A cake stand eventually arrived with 3 of each item (sandwiches, scones, cakes, the usual) and it looked lovely. But another 5 minutes passed and no more came so we asked the waiter when the rest was coming and he seemed to think that that was enough for 5 of us (it wasn't at all - it was evidently enough for 3 people). Attempting to make him understand we wanted a further stand for 2 people was challenging to say the least. By the time it came we were hungry and annoyed and I can't say that the standard of the food was so wonderful that it made up for it - it was average. To top it all off the noise of screaming children was constant thanks to the kids party going on in the nearby function room - why the doors couldn't be shut I have no idea. All in all I wouldn't go back here for afternoon tea and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's a lovely venue, and perhaps lunch might be less Fawlty-Towers-esque but it certainly doesn't compare to other Edinburgh venues where I've had afternoon tea.

The staff at the hotel are extremely welcoming both at reception and in the restaurant. The food is of an extremely high standard with an excellent choice. My room was clean and comfortable. An excellent choice.

« Weekend Break to Edinburgh »

The Braid Hotel is a mere 15 minutes drive from the center of Edinburgh. However, just outside the hotel a local bus service can be used which is ideal and cheap £4.00 for an all day ticket. If you plan to dine out in the evening in Edinburgh city then ensure that you pre-book a table - this is a must as to avoid disappointment. If unsure where to go check out top restaurants in Edinburgh to info as there is a vast choice from Aberdeen Angus Steak Grills to Jamie Oliver Italian. The hotel is set is a very quiet location the rooms are very comfortable with lovely beds and the decor is wonderful. The bathroom facilities at the hotel are excellent and cleanliness is superb. Even the hotel hair dryer is very good so no need to take you own, We dined in the hotel restaurant & the food was very enjoyable and tasty and well presented . The breakfast was really delicious haggis available if you wanted to try it! You also have an option to select items to order for breakfast such as kippers, porridge, fried eggs etc.....which is a bonus although the actual buffet selection is spot on!. Staff just could not do enough to make our staff truly memorable thank you and we will love to return, soon.

« Cosy, clean and convenient »

Lovely hotel with traditional exterior and decor. The room was perfectly clean and equipped with tv, drinks and toiletries. All the staff were helpful and polite. The breakfast had a great choice of hot and cold food and was unlimited. We particularly enjoyed the cosy bar area with a fire and comfy chairs. The walk into the city passes through Morningside definitely worth a visit with independent shops and cafes.

« Wonderful wedding venue, great staff, amazing experience and a day to remember ! »

Being local to the hotel, I was already familiar with the venue, and chose it for my wedding early 2015 (September wedding). It was a great experience, the staff were lovely and helpful, and did everything as i wanted, with some helpful suggestions on the day to make things run smoother. They made the function suite cosy for a small ceremony, and opened it up for my evening reception. The food was amazing as usual, and the staff did everything perfectly. We had a great day and night, and i would definitely have another function or party here, and have had drinks and food frequently in the Edinburgh Bar, and the Buckstone Bistro. This is a lovely venue, with amazing views of the castle, lovely decking area, the chefs are of an amazing standard, and i have a wonderful day to remember.

    « What a find »

Dropping my daughter back at uni after her train was cancelled and booked here last minute to stay over before returning home. It was fabulous! Gorgeous room, very comfortable, exceptionally friendly staff (except at 7:30 the next morning, chap was then efficient but hardly said a word, should have at least asked if everything had been okay - which it wad been! - maybe not a morning person!!) Room was quiet, bar staff were great, wine was good quality and bed very comfortable. I will definitely stay here again on future trips to visit my daughter.

We stayed here last night and the experience from the time checked in until we left this morning was memorable. The girl on reception was helpful and friendly - very good first impression?? Our room (recently refurbished) was lovely with stunning uninterrupted views of Edinburghs finest landmarks. Bar and restaurant staff again were attentive, efficient and professional working with a smile. Bed was very comfortable and Breakfast was ideal in terms of choice and quality so well done chef. We will return soon - PJ 06 CON

« Relaxing atmosphere, good food, great staff »

Stopped here for a night prior to a work meeting. Staff all very friendly and helpful, nice atmosphere and relaxed in the bar area and the food was great in the 1886 restaurant. Shame they don't have Sky Sports in the bar area only because there was a game on I would have liked to watch! The bedroom was small but functional for a one night stay and the bathroom area was nice - no bath though but that didn't bother me as the shower was really good and I prefer showering anyway My only criticism was the bedroom was far too warm during the night - I think they can crank the heating down a few degrees as this disturbed my sleep.

Excellent staff always available and ready to support and help travellers. A really classy hotel with fantastic rooms. If you don't have a car, buses are always running to connect you with the city centre. Fantastic experience!

« Exquisite location, Cool rooms and Courteous staff »

The first thing which catches your attention on reaching the Braid Hills is the exquisite view from the Hotel. This victorian hotel is built at a point from where, at a distance can be viewed Arthur's seat, Edinburgh Castle and Firth of Forth. Moving closer towards the hotel can be seen a pretty row of houses and in the near vicinity just below and across the road is a big park, which in the summer season is lush green. Though the architecture of hotel is old, it is its best charm. Also it is its best trick, as the insides of the hotel are furbished with all the modern amenities. The rooms are well placed, with each having big windows for effective lighting. Besides, there are usual facilities like heat convectors, hot water etc. The staff makes sure that the room is always kept full with supplies. The other hallmark of the hotel is the service by staff. The staff is very courteous and helpful, and they will ensure your comfort. The hotel has a well stocked bar and the restaurant offers a variety of dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian for the boarders. This hotel will be best for those, who prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Though, it is situated just abut 2.5 miles from the city center, the peaceful environment and the greenery around the hotel gives an impression of it being in the countryside. The city itself is easily accessible and there is a bus stop on the road just below the hotel, with regular bus services to city center. All in all, a very nice place to stay in, to enjoy the beauty of nature as well as the rushes of city life just a stone's throw away.

    « Enjoyable stay. »

Very pleasant Hotel with helpful and very pleasant staff and ample parking and a good restaurant. One downside is lack of a lift - although porter available to carry cases. During our stay had the fire alarms go off at around 11.30pm and had to evacuate the Hotel - but the situations was dealt with efficiently by the Hotel staff and we were soon allowed to return to our rooms. The Hotel is some way away from the City centre - it would be a long walk - although there is a bus service that stops right outside the Hotel.

« FAB XMAS LUNCH AND AMAZING VIEWS »

Six of us opted to go here recently for our Christmas Lunch. First pre-lunch aperitifs in the comfy lounge as everybody arrived and then we were ushered through to the diningroom for 1 p.m. A wonderful window table and excellent service. However, one minor hitch. One of our company was wheelchair-bound and could not get close enough to the table to enjoy his meal. So with a lot of scurrying about and prompt attention, the staff came up trumps by replacing the existing end table with a higher replacement and relaying it. Spot on! Our friend was then wheeled up to the table and it fitted like a glove all thanks to the team effort! Additional drinks were ordered and menus perused. There was an excellent selection of traditional fare, i.e. soup, turkey with all the usual trimmings followed by Christmas pudding - and alternative dishes to suit every palate - including vegetarian. Most folks ordered the turkey while, to be different, a couple of us ordered the fish dish. Instead of a sweet dessert I asked for a cheeseboard and this duly arrived with a nice balanced selection of cheeses with celery and grapes. Plus, during the meal, a good bottle of wine was ordered. Superb food, good drink and convivial company in beautiful surroundings with fabulous views over the city, who could ask for more - and at around £27.00 a head for three courses and drinks (exclusive of gratuity), I thought was pretty good value. All in all a most happy and relaxed afternoon. The Braid Hills Hotel can be reached by Lothian Buses No. 11 service from Princes Street. £1.50 single fare. Great for drivers who want to eat and drink and don't want to worry about driving home. Regular bus service into town - or alternatively book a cab at the hotel reception. However, the hotel does have a fairly spacious free car park. This hotel used to be one of my favourite haunts when I lived in nearby Morningside. Some beautiful walks, amazing views, nearby Braid Hills Golf Course and, of course, Blackford Hill and Blackford Pond where you can even feed the ducks if you feel so inclined. It's also a magnificent vantage point from which to view the Hogmanay/New Year Fireworks for free! Very highly recommended. Splendid atmosphere. Excellent, friendly and very helpful service. Food to die for. As we were only there for our Christmas Lunch, I cannot pass any comment on the accommodation as nobody in our party stayed overnight.

    « Back again »

Newly refurbished rooms are beautiful. But the strength of this place is still the lovely staff. From check in to the bar to the restaurant it's the friendly staff who really make your visit. The refurbishment is great but give the staff a pat on the back.

The moment we arrived at the best western we were welcomed very well! A birthday card for me and a very friendly reception! Super nice hotel! All the staff made our 3 night stay very special indeed. Upgraded room was a lovely surprise. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks again to all the staff, you made our stay really great!!! ??????

    « Birthday Night Stay »

Enjoyed a one night B & B in a newly renovated room on the 3rd floor, to the rear, that is quieter. Excellent comfortable beds. In addition to the revamped en-suite with an over-bath shower there was a modern sink in the bedroom that was convenient when making teas or coffees. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Premises are clean and well maintained. Breakfast was typical fry buffet however a fish dish would have been welcome. Good parking with additional, free, on-street parking nearby. Hotel is on the Lothian 11 bus route into Edinburgh City, with convenient stops directly outside the hotel. Only downside was poor water pressure in shower. [room 313] and lack of a lift. Good sized fridge and large flat screen tv with an extensive choice of channels.

    « Four night Easy Break Dinner B&B deal. 6th to 9th December 2015 »

? The reception staff greeted us in a pleasant, most courteous manner and readily assisted with two suitcases up to our room. ? We had a well-appointed, recently refurbished room with excellent views over the Lothian Hills. ? The bar staff were well coming, courteous, diligent and efficient when carrying out their duties. ? The breakfasts were good, wholesome, tasty and made an ideal start to the day. ? The three choices of where to have an evening meal were the adjacent pub, hotel bar or hotel dining room. We found that the menus would have been satisfactory for one or two night stay but offered limited choices. ? The service provided in all the eating places was excellent, courteous, friendly and attentive. ? All the staff were a credit to the Hotel with everyone going out of their way to help. We would highly recommend this hotel however for dinner inclusive deals it is recommended that a more adventurous approach to the catering is applied. Book without evening meal and be aware for less mobile guests the hotel does not have a lift.

« Not much more than travel lodge, but 100% better »

Very surprised, normally dislike and avoid Best Western as a brand, but, these traditional hotels brought into the brand seem different. Very nice building, good views, nice staff, handy for town and road links. Ate very good evening meal and breakfast, cask real ale, huge room with massive bath. This is little more than the travel lodge I normally stay at, but millions of times better. Will stay again, and would be happy to bring the family.

« Very Good, but needs some improvements »

Overall, the hotel room was roomy and comfortable. We had one of the largest rooms with an additional sofa bed. Staff was always polite and caring and the breakfast servings were excellent. We ate at the hotel on two evenings and food was good. The restaurant was sensitive and caring about food allergies. However, there were some concerns including inadequate heat, location of hotel on a main road making it very noisy all night long and there was no help to carry baggage to your room, in our case over 30 steps since there is no lift. I would come back but hope that they address some of these concerns b

Cracking hotel. Lovely room and an excellent choice if in Edinburgh! Hotel outside of the city centre so will need to consider this although straight forward to use bus and inexpensive if using a taxi. Old fashioned and a beautiful building. Hotel has it's own pub next door which was equally pleasant. Bar area is lovely. Everthing else as you would expect, we had a family room that was spacious, clean and the bathroom was excellent. Enjoy. A good choice for the discerning traveller wanting to stay somewhere with style.

« Excellent setting but service can be much better »

The hotel is suited on top of a hill with a nice feel to it. The building itself has a typical Edinburgh masonry build, the inside is clean and decorated beautiful. The rooms are clean but small. Don't be surprise if you don't get hot water when you jump into shower because out of the three nights, I manged to have hot shower only once which might be because I had it before anybody was up. Coffee served with breakfast was the weakest ever. If you want a strong one or an Espresso you need to pay additional. etc.... In short the service can be improved and I don't think I will stay there again unless someone come to me and inform me that they are changed for the better.

    « Nice Place »

I spent five nights at this hotel while in Edinburgh. The reception staff were very nice and helpful, the rest of the hotel and restaurant staff were the same. The room was large and clean and had a nice view. The location is a bit of a walk from the down town area, but not too far by cab or bus. My only issue was that the hot water heater in the room failed the last two nights of the stay leaving the room quite cool.

    5
    « Comfortable hotel »

We had a lovely couple of days at Braid Hills. It is a very comfortable hotel with very helpful staff. The location is excellent being on a bus route for the town centre and being in easy reach of restaurants. Our room was spacious and had lovely views over Edinburgh. We will stay there again.

    « Awesome!!! »

Incredible hotel! Historic building, deco in theme with the external appereance, incredible comfortable bed, clean and very nice room! I booked the room for only 3 nights but I had to extend my staying for another night; the receptionist was very helpful and at the check out I found out that instead the full price, they let me pay the discounted price I payed for the original 3 nights! Proper and delicious scottish breakfast! Extremely recommended to everybody!!!!

    « A very welcome break »

I have stayed at Braid Hills several times over the last couple of years and I have never been disapointed. For some it is a little way out of town, but for me that is perfect. The city, if I want it, is a short taxi ride and Murryfield is withing Walking distance Good food, excellent service, a comfortable bed, easy access from the ring road and a simple exit from the city. It is perfect !

    « Excellent »

Stayed for two nights from 14th November 2015 and had a great time, the hotel was traditional Scottish being comfortable and lovely and warm, in fact we turned the radiators down in our room as it was a bit much for us. The room was spacious, well maintained with comfortable beds and all the basic things you would expect - a TV, drink making facilities etc We used the public bus stop right outside the hotel to travel down into the city centre, I downloaded the " transport for Edinburgh" app for the bus times and it worked a treat, it was £1.50 for one ride and £4.50 for an all day pass, can't go wrong really. Breakfast at the hotel was spot on, plenty of choice for a full English with some Haggis if you fancy it!! there was also cereal, toast, fruit etc if you don't like a full breakfast. We will be returning at some point in the future and Im sure we will re book this hotel.

    « Cozy Scottish Inn »

Our room was excellent. It was nicely decorated with cute details, like plaid purple chairs. Staff was wonderful, extremely helpful, and very welcoming. It was a 30 minute bus ride to the city centre, but the weather was nice enough that we enjoyed the 50 minute walk down Princes Street most days. There was no hair conditioner or lotion in the room.

    « Quick stopover »

A short business trip had me staying at the Braid Hills hotel, having stayed with this chain in the past; I wasn't looking forward to it as my previous experiences weren't great. Pleasantly surprised with the standard of room, which was spacious and very clean; it looked like the bathroom had recently been refurbished. I only had breakfast in the restaurant, which was a standard buffet affair; all pipping hot and tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive when dealing with you. I would definitely stay again and would recommend.

    « Nice, comfortable hotel »

An overnight stay in Edinburgh, a chance for ex.Ellersly House guests to try Braid Hills Hotel. It was nice to see that the friendly, helpful atmosphere also exists here- and to see some faces we knew. The room was spacious and looked as though it had just been refurbished. Everything looked new including the double glazing. The heated towel rail was useful for drying our clothes (very heavy rain). The whole building looked newly decorated and there was evidence that there were still one or two rooms to finish. Staying DBB, we had a choice of 2 courses from the main menu- with a good selection. There were obviously some 'locals' dining, always a good sign. Easy to find, definitely somewhere we'll stay again.

« Delighted with the qulaity of this very comfortable hotel »

We booked this hotel for our friends from India into this hotel for a two night stay and we were grateful to the friendly staff for making their stay so memorable. Food was first class and the rooms were more than adequate. But is twas the friendliness of the staff that was most appreciated. Thank you so much. The hotel is located in a central position with easy access to the city and main tourist attractions. We would recommend this hotel without fear or favour.

    « Super »

Just returned from a super 3 night break in Edinburgh first stay at Braids hill hotel but will not be the last the hotel is super we got upgraded to a king size newly decorated room free of charge which was a lovely start to our break nothing at all to complain about in the room at all from entering it to leaving it the hotel was busy on the first night with a function on in one of the suites but plenty of room elsewhere to sit and relax the bar area is comfy and bar prices very good for a hotel of this standard ,the staff are outstanding always a hello and a smile for you nothing to much for them (shame about some of guests rude people no respect no please or thank you to staff ) breakfast was good but wished there had been more fruit on offer , we only ate one night there and was a little surprised at the menu with little choice but what we had was fab All in all a super place to stay and we will be back hopefully soon .

    « Noisy room »

Booked in for 3 nights and am a best western rewards customer, no upgrade ( as usual ) but hotel was busy so I understand, however we were put in a poor room at top of stairs, so every time someone went upstairs ( usually late at night from the bar ) we were woken up , Saturday night loud music all evening from a function , followed by lots of drunken people going upstairs , including a lovely argument at 0230 am that went on for half an hour , left hotel absolutely knackered after 3 nights of little sleep..... I could kick myself as we come to Edinburgh at least once a month for a few nights , I could have taken up an offer at the doubletree Hilton for the same price as here, but we decided to be loyal to best western, just wish they'd had the same thought !!!

    « Lovely relaxing hotel »

Got an upgrade to a room that was newly refurbished, it was lovely, if all done like this then hotel can't go far wrong. Food and service was excellent, though a bit too much fish on the menu for our liking. What we did have was cooked to perfection though. Waitress in restaurant very helpful and willing to ask chef to tweak the choices on menu which they did with no problems. All in all a lovely relaxing break, so handy for bus stop into city centre too.

« Superb location, average meal, poor service. »

Last week, I decided to treat myself to dinner at the Braids Hotel main restaurant so that I could watch the sunset over Edinburgh and Fife from my window table. I had stayed in the hotel for a fortnight a couple of years ago, and had found the food and service to be very good. However, I was rather disappointed with the set menu which consisted mainly of standbys, such as Chicken/salmon/beef pie along with a variety of burgers. There was no a la carte menu, and the salmon which I chose, was run-of-the -mill. The dessert (Apple charlotte) was similar to the frozen deserts I can get at any supermarket. The service was painfully slow! Two waiters stood around at the desk, doing very little, while I waited for the table to be cleared between courses. Also, the room was dark, and I had to ask for the centre top-lights to be lit. When there are so many good, modern restaurants to choose from, I feel that the BHH is looking tired, their menus need a through revamp, and the staff could do with more training. All the beautiful location in the world will not save a rundown hotel.

    « perfectly situated & superb breakfast »

We (parents and teenagerson) really loved this hotel. Nice atmosphere, beautifully situated overlooking the city, great rooms, excellent cleanliness and a superb Scottish breakfast with a very tasty haggis. Direct callingline to a taxicompany was efficient. Should we visit Edinburgh again, there is no need to find another hotel. This hotel is "our" hotel in town. You can easily reach all the attraction in Edinburgh (like Arthurs seat, the castle etc ) by foot starting from Braid Hills. Of course we recommend this hotel !

« Staff deserve great credit in all areas. »

We had driven almost 450 miles in the day to get to the Braid Hills Hotel and were impressed right from the moment of booking in. Our room was a deluxe version and was very nicely presented with good views over the park. Intrigued to know that afternoons football results, we turned on the television. It had no power and we reported this to reception. Immediately and over the next twenty minutes three members of staff arrived to assist. No luck, it would not respond. We thought that perhaps they would call an engineer for the Monday morning. Then Melanie who booked us in said she would upgrade us to a signature room. She showed us three further rooms and said we could have which one we liked. We went for 216 which is beautiful with a turret seat and four poster bed. At this point I was a bit concerned at the extra cost involved and Melanie said the price we booked at would be the price we paid. It was one hell of an upgrade for a dodgy television. We were there for five nights and the room was brilliant, the bed was incredibly comfortable, the view was lovely. Every member of staff that we encountered did their job to a very high standard and with a smile on their face. Other huge pluses are the free car parking and probably the worlds best bus service is almost on the doorstep. The hotel breakfast is of very good quality and the dining room has great views. It is to be hoped that Best Western fully appreciate what a special team they have in place at Braid Hills. If we venture that far north again, this hotel is the one we will book.

« Nice hotel in lovely Morningside »

Having lived in Morningside for 15 years, we were back in Edinburgh for a weekend visiting and we picked this hotel as it's got such easy access of the bypass/motorway and a big bonus free parking. The bus into town is right outside the hotel and I am biased of course but Morningside is a lovely part of town with quirky shops, good restaurants/pubs and a great atmosphere. The hotel is very good, the breakfast certainly was superb and the views from our room and the breakfast room overlooking the Pentlands is such stunning. I think we had one of the older non-refurbished rooms so the décor was perhaps a bit old fashioned but the room itself was massive, free wifi, decent Brodies tea & coffee and mineral water. Friendly staff too. We will definitely be back !!

    « Great location »

Visited here for lunch with long lost friend. Location is terrific. Birds eye view of Edinburgh. Hotel has had a makeover since I was last here 30+ years ago. Nice ambience in the lounge where we had a bar lunch. Unfortunately had to send back my sandwiches since the bread was day-old. Fresh bread is expected at higher quality hotels. Apart from that it was a warm inviting place where we could reminisce.

    « Beautiful and quiet »

The room we were in was massive! Bathroom was small but the bedroom was incredible - bed massive and extremely comfortable! We stayed here after the B&B we had paid for turned out to be less than impressive! The staff were lovely and the hotel was very quiet! We caught cabs into Edinburgh - not too expensive! Would absolutely recommend!

    « Peaceful surroundings »

Medium sized hotel on the borders of attractive hilly countryside. Good bus service to central Edinburgh and also Ocean Terminal. Our room was compact but comfortable. The shower room was rather tired however and the shower a rather miserable trickle. We didn't eat there, or drink in the bar, but the menu looked OK. The staff were friendly and helpful.

    « "Room with a view" »

Stayed here recently on business working in this part of Edinburgh. This hotel has plenty of charm. The room I had faced the main road with excellent views over the park and a bit of Edinburgh skyline, the rooms are large with table and comfortable chairs to enjoy the view, rooms have everything required for a comfortable stray.Breakfast was very good the following morning.Recommended!

« Classy and comfortable in a fabulous location »

It was great to be back spending a few days at this hotel, which has been a favourite of mine since the early 70's. While many things have changed over the years, it was good to still experience welcoming and friendly service, and a classy and comfortable place to stay. The location is superb, with views towards the Firth of Forth and the Edinburgh skyline from many rooms, and with easy access via local buses (1.50 pounds per trip) to Edinburgh centre. My room was very comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. As pointed out on the hotel website, rooms are accessed via a couple of short staircases (i.e. no lift). Great service in the Edinburgh Bar and the restaurant, and everything I selected there was excellent. Other than the extortionate laundry prices, I felt that all other prices were fair and about what one would expect to pay. I look forward to staying at the Braid Hills on future visits to this fantastic city.

    « Disappointing »

Room was tired, fire doors wedged open, smoke detector head removed, electronic door locks had to be reprogrammed every time we tried to get into our room. Staff were atrocious, especially in the restaurant. We were left for almost an hour before being served and then the order was wrong. Tables were left full of dirty crockery, staff were incompetent. Platinum card holder was directed through a recently used, extremely untidy function room. Photo evidence taken. All in all, never again. All this at quite an expensive price. Premier Inns were better.

Getting to the hotel ...
