    « Pleasant stay »

Hotel is well located for exploring the area. Hotel itself was in good order. Rooms were well appointed. Tea coffee, toiletries, hairdryers. Beds were comfortable and bedding and towels of a good quality. The pool is excellent. Hotel is flexible about access to the facilities before and after checking in and out. Food was very good as was the choice at dinner. Only small critism is that the buffet breakfast layout is dreadful with everyone congregating at the door to get hot food and make toast. The other hotel in the village has a lively pub with a good atmosphere.

« Another happy weekend visit »

We had a lovely time again. Gorgeous food, friendly staff, lovely setting and good pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi facilities. Reception staff were lovely, organising a room switch to a softer mattress with no fuss at all. Much appreciated. One teeny weeny criticism was that in the lounge the cold air coming in from the conservatory did make it a bit on the chilly side and likewise in the pool areas and it's normally not like that at all. We enjoyed as much as ever though and will be back again.

    « night away »

first impressions were very good.staff went out of their way to make us welcome. We were allocated room 2 which on reflection was rather neat if you know what i mean.you could hear what was going on in the room above. The food was good with no complaints either at dinner or breakfast..would go back but would make sure I got a upgrade

    « Lovely weekend »

Just back from an overnight stay that we booked via myhotelbreak.com £84 per couple DBB & cream tea on check-in. Stayed back in April so knew roughly what to expect from accommodation. Room was large, a little dated, but clean and tidy with everything we needed. On my previous stay, I was attending a party night and food was very disappointing so wasn't sure what to expect in restaurant, but the quality and standard of the dishes my husband & I and our friends that we were away with was outstanding and wouldn't be out of place in a fine dining restaurant. Beautifully presented and very tasty. Book your table for dinner at point of booking hotel as does get busy. Breakfast was equally as good with large choice from hot or cold buffet. Very busy dining room in morning though. We found the young staff in dining room at dinner & breakfast to be very friendly and attentive. Drymen is great wee village with good choice of pubs for weekend away.

    « fantastic night manager »

My car broke down and I was stranded in the middle of the night.Bruce the night manager was so wonderfully helpful. He called the RAC for me, gave me coffee and a sausage roll and let me sit in the lounge while I waited 4 hours for The RAC. He was so considerate and nice and the hospitality I received was beyond compare. so, thanks very much Bruce!

« Nice setting, shame about staff »

Was going to a full report but decided just to list the issues we had but also the good points. -booked in April by telephone but took 3 months to get email confirmation. -arrived a hour early for check in, told off for being early, not direct to bar or restaurant.(been driving for the past 4 hours to get there) -room 53 noisy over night as near kitchen then people outside window chatting. -disco left running so could not hear what the actors were saying during murder mystery act. -disco so loud during meal service could not hear other people on table or actors when they visited our table. -booked and paid for two nights bed breakfast and dinner but not on hotels system even though I had printed out confirmation email. -no internet access in room or public area. Told by staff 'it's broken'. Not told when it would be up and running. -bar staff did not know the difference between a 'bad pint' and a bitter that needed to stand -locked out of room because they had forgot we were booked for two nights (again had to show them the printed confirmation. -told our printed email confirmation was from event staff and was not a true representation of our booking! -when we checked out a day early, not asked if we enjoyed our stay, was there a problem, why were we leaving early? No customer care. -no offer of any refund. -public areas well themed. -room clean and warm with good fixtures and fittings. -after rolling her eyes the receptionist was able to find me a toothbrush. -food we tried was good but limited choice at murder mystery. We have stayed in Best Western hotel chain in America and this did not reach the standard of customer care we were a custom too. The staff at this hotel are young people with limited life skills. Would we stay there again, no. Would we recommend this hotel....... Not sure, it is up to each person to make there mind up. I except the hotel to give its bog standard answer to this report as it has done to all the other negative reports on trip advisor.

    « Overnight Heaven »

My wife and I had yet another great overnight here at the Buchanan Arms. This was our tenth visit in 4 years and have shared various special moments in our lives here: engagement, 1 year wedding anniversary to name but a few. Arrived to the usual warm and friendly receptionist who checked us in with ease. We decided to go straight to the bar for lunch. Great lunch time menu ranging from sandwiches and a soup combo to snacks and main meals. We ordered a couple of tuna sandwiches and two drinks. The food came and it was its usual quality. You must be wondering what's so special about a sandwich. Well at the Buchanan Arms it's taste, quantity and presentation is what makes it special. We headed back to the car to get our bags and were asked if we needed a hand to which we kindly declined. When then made our way to the leisure facilities. It is without a doubt the best leisure facilities of any hotel I have stayed in. Pool a good size, sauna and steam room present and a jacuzzi what else could you want plus the locker rooms are clean and modern. That night we decided to have a few drinks at the bar. We sat in the alcove bit where the bar is situated enjoyed reasonably priced drinks in a relaxing mellow atmosphere. We ordered full Scottish breakfast in bed the next morning and as usual the food was delicious. I believe it's all locally sourced. Check out is quick and painless. We will be back for certain for our 11th stay.

    « Weekend Stay. »

Another terrific weekend stay at the Buchanan Arms.Stayed with friends for a relaxing break. The food in the restaurant in the evenings was first class,as was the morning breakfast.Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. We are already planning to return again soon.

« Lovely hotel, very slow service and odd breakfast! »

The hotel itself is lovely and the rooms clean and comfortable. Service in the dining room was extremely slow, snails pace would be too fast. The restaurant was not busy in the least but service at breakfast and dinner so slow a couple actually walked out. Also one breakfast I asked for smoked haddock and an egg, normal Scottish breakfast request I thought. The 'chef' grilled it so was rather like a piece of cardboard.

    « Nice Hotel »

Stayed here for work, the facilities are good but wifi doesn't work in your room. As I was away in business that is a bit of a necessity. The hotel is clean and tidy and staff friendly. It's right in the gateway to the Highlands and Loch Lomond so if your planning a trip it's worth keeping this in mind as a good base or stop over.

    « Great birthday stay »

Bought a last minute deal for my 30th birthday that included prosecco, dinner, afternoon tea and breakfast for the two of us for a very reasonable price. Straight after check in we settled in the quiet lounge for afternoon tea of plenty of coffee plus tasty scones with cream and jam. Next we got comfy in the immaculately clean bedroom with access to freeview TV and free wi-fi (although the connection was intermittent). Couldn't hear any noise from neighbours or restaurant (which we were above). At dinner we were treated very well by waiters who were very polite and helpful when I asked to confirm if a dish was vegetarian (as there were no "V" signs to indicate so). Very happy with the tasty food. The risotto being of particular note. We chose Banoffee pie to finish and were very satisfied with the size of the portions and flavour. The breakfast buffet of toast, fruit, yogurts and cereal was fresh and I particularly liked that there was a vegetarian alternative to the muller yogurt (although whether this was intentional I dont know). Cooked breakfast with my choice of veggie sausages was tasty and just the right portion size. Heard others complain about a wait for cooked breakfasts but we didn't notice ourselves. All in all 100% satisfied with my stay in this very well run hotel with the food being a particular highlight.

    « Highly recommended. »

Just spent four very pleasant days at this hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful. The food was excellent (but) not much choice for vegetarians. The gym and pool was first class. The room we stayed in was extremely spacious and better equipped than most hotels we have stayed in (but) the floorboards in the room above did creak rather badly. On a personal preference note I would have preferred the lounge are to have free of, in my view, dreadful music, even though it was intended to be unintrusive background volume. Disabled people may find the navigation round the hotel difficult but there are rooms on the first floor that be suitable. Plenty of car parking space and the hotel itself is situated in an area of outstanding beauty. Drymen itself is a pleasant village with one or two local shops and a chemist. I would heartily recommend a stay at this hotel not least because of its close proximity to the beautiful Loch Lomond and picturesque landscape.

« Reasonable hotel with swimming pool. »

Stayed for two nights as a family of four in room 48. Overall this was a very positive experience. Pros - Hotel had a swimming pool which the kids loved (the fact it had a pool was the main reason we chose this hotel) - our room was really big with a huge Queen bed and two single beds and a sofa - Drymen is a nice little town. We ate at the Clachan and the Drymen, both were very nice and welcomed kids - Staff at the hotel were friendly Areas for improvement -our room was a bit "tired"- fraying carpet, in need of a lick of paint etc - showers in the pool went from being nice and hot to absolutely freezing - on the first morning we went for breakfast at 9am (it finished at 930) there was a massive queue and it all seemed very hectic, took a long time to order etc. On the second morning we came down much earlier and it was better. Overall a pleasant middle of the road hotel, no major complaints. Thanks

    « autumn break »

Stayed 2 nights. Staff all friendly & welcoming. Lovely village to stay in & good base for walking in loch lomond area & trossachs. Breakfasts a good selection and good set up for day before heading out on hills. Pool good and well kept facilities. Had a lovely break & would recommend overall.

« Our wee break at drymen »

We enjoyed our stay. Room 46 had its own alarm clock at around 6-30am when heating came on, also a bit noisy at night I think it was staff tidying up sounded like bins getting dragged about around 10-30pm till 11-30pm. Restaurant was a bit chaotic, meals going round to find the owners, a bit hillarious, staff friendly and courteous, I think it's lack of training and direction by restaurant managers. It didn't detract from our stay, therefore we will return.

« enjoyable stay as usual »

Have stayed at this hotel before and always had an enjoyable stay. On this visit there were a couple of times when the restaurant staff seemed to struggle a bit, meaning meals were taking longer than normal or we had to ask a couple of times to get what we wanted. This did not, however, spoil our stay and the staff were always courteous and clearly trying their best to maintain the usual high standards of service. The dinner menu previously was a fixed menu at a cost of £22.50 which matched the allowance available to DBB guests. This has now changed and all items are individually priced. This means that, if you want to stay within your limit you need to count up what you have had each time. Alternatively, you need to pay extra for anything over you limit. When we were staying the jacuzzi was broken throughout which was unfortunate, but just bad luck. The steam room is a little too small, but not an easy thing to resolve now that is has been installed. Otherwise the leisure area staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Leisure area changing rooms are nice, spaceous and clean. Room was very nice, plenty or room and kept clean. Reception staff as always very helpful. Overall, would recommend a stay at this hotel.

    « Second Visit »

We were really looking forward to our second visit to this hotel and in many ways it was a pleasant experience. We had a large comfortable room, with an extra large king size bed, sofa etc, but the smallest of televisions up on the wall, which made watching from the sofa quite difficult. The temperature in the room was redicuous, we were unable to turn the radiator off as it was behind the sofa, so ended up sleeping with the windows open.Could do with new pillows on the bed as they were rather hard. Breakfast on the first day was not really a pleasurable experience. We were a party of five, occupying three rooms, we asked for a table of five, to be told there wasn't one available. There were three tables for two in the centre of the dining room which we asked to have put together. A rather bazar reason for this not being possible was that the waiting on staff needed to get between the tables. Even when we explained that they would not need to get between these tables, the staff were still not willing to do this. We were shown to a table for three and a table for two which had a fire escape route between the two. Our orders for our cooked breakfast with the exception of the scrambled egg order had items missing, which we had to ask to be brought to us, the food was lukewarm on cold plates. We asked to speak to duty manager and the manager from the dining room came to speak to us (we had already spoken to her about the tables). We expressed our concerns to her again about the tables, especially as other tables had been put together and even an extra place set on a table for four making a table of five which was in our opinion a health and safety issue. We were promised that she would speak to the chef about our concerns and that we would all be seated together the following day. No concerns about breakfast on the Sunday, piping hot plates and order correct. Tip: If ordering just a few items from the cooked breakfast menu ask to have double of each item (if you wish) as one poached egg, half a tomato and a piece of potato scone was a rather pathetic looking breakfast, especially as you have paid for a full breakfast. Leisure facilities were great, even though the Jacuzzi was out if order Sounds like we moaned a lot, but we did have a good time and would consider staying there again.

« Good family hotel with great leisure pool »

Stayed for 2 nights over weekend as part of big family party - first time I'd been. Very impressed with pool and adjoining facilities which were great for kids. Good meals at night with excellent service from staff, nice relaxed friendly atmosphere, good clean room. Handy for local facilities in Drymen also. Only constructive feedback I'd have is better selection of bottled craft beer, apart from that very happy.

    « 2nd visit not as good as 1st »

Returned here for 2nd time using tesco vouchers. So disappointed with room compared to last time, small with a double bed not King. Went in bathroom and noticed long thick hairs in bath. Complained to reception, lady very helpful and changed rooms to a bigger room with king bed. Much better but very noisy with the creaky corridor above us! Pool still nice although sauna not working. Will return again but know where to request room now, preferably high floor!

« West Highland Way Stop »

Our last night walking down from Fort William back to Glasgow and we had booked this hotel for a bit of a treat at the end. We got in and our room (number 20) seemed to be another massive walk from reception but we got there in the end. Nice hotel room with freeview tv and bath/ shower. We went for a swim to help our aching legs and feet and the hot tub helped a great deal. Dinner was fine and some of the service was very friendly. Big cooked breakfast before setting off the next morning. Reception very helpful with queries.

    « Terrible restaurant facilities »

I was very happy with my room as it has a couch, a lot of space and a large TV. As I had walked stage 1 of the West Highland Way I enjoyed the leisure facilities very much, the pool was warm enough and there was a hot tub, sauna and steam room, all very comfortable. Just as I was thinking the hotel was excellent I went for dinner, there was about seven out of fifteen tables full however I was there for two hours ordering a main course and a simple chocolate ice cream dessert (which I ordered with sauce but it didn't come with sauce), my Dad asked for ketchup but after fifteen minutes he asked for it again and it then came. After that experience we left no tip!

« Nice hotel with a good restaurant »

The staff here was extremely kind and accommodating, and the property is both beautiful on the outside and comfortable on the inside. It's a bit hard to get around with any sizable suitcase given the predominance of stairs and no elevators but it's a small price to pay. The restaurant onsite was very nice.

« Had hoped for better »

My husband and I stayed one night at the hotel while visiting the area for a celebration party. The room we got had a few faults, which the hotel staff tried to assist with. However our stay was spoiled by inconsiderate neighbours from midnight to 2am, banging the door and partying. The hotel staff eventually came up after we called reception but it made no difference, the party continued. Next morning , the restaurant was understaffed with a number of guests waiting on orders. We asked 3 times for coffee but only got it when I offered to make it myself did we finally get it. We had finished our breakfast. The hotel duty manager took on board our disgruntlement and did give us a discount, however my long awaited stay was spoiled. Hope you have better luck!!

« Welcoming and comfortable hotel in good location »

Very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make this a great place to stay. We booked only one night for a special anniversary and, being unaware that it would be busy, did not make an advance reservation for dinner. However, despite being one of the last in the restaurant that evening, the staff were very accommodating (even setting up a new table for us when we declined one situated near the exit). The meal was excellent in all respects: the chef and other kitchen staff should be complemented on doing such a great job after a, no doubt, very long and tiring day. We also received a complementary bottle of prossecco which was a very nice touch.

    « Well Done »

I had a very tiring day but luckily I had this hotel to stay at to lift my spirits. I got to the hotel and was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, I was asked if I had eaten as lost orders had been called but she would have words with the kitchen. I returned from dropping my luggage in the room to find that the chef had said no problems and offered the full menu I had topside of beef with seasonal vegetables which was absolutely first class. The service in the restaurant was great warm friendly and delivered with a smile The room was ideal and the bed very comfortable looks like recently refurbished Overall good value for money what makes this hotel is the staff, but compliments to the management which are obviously doing a great job as well ????

« Relaxing one night break »

We arrived at 3pm our room was lovely and comfortable and the receptionist very helpful. We used the spa facilities however was a little distracting with the swimming lessons going on and the sauna was unfortunately not working. The meal we had was beautiful and we were really pleased with the service however some customers were being extremely awkward but you can't help this. Overall our stay was exactly what we needed.

    4
    « Great atmosphere »

Have been several times since the 60s. The hotel bar and restaurant still have a great atmosphere. My superior room(4) was great with pleasant view and very quiet. Dinner excellent and good allowance from DB&B booking for a la carte menu. Typical Scottish breakfast black pudding, haggis and potato scone but very small portions and not the best quality. Staff very attentive but a small point not as friendly as one expects in a Scottish hotel with such a long tradition. The staff were very busy and the bar man had many duties away from the bar so little time for customers. The duty manager though was great and very helpful and friendly.

    3
« Very busy and noisy hotel »

Stayed here for the weekend whilst attending a wedding locally. There was a wedding going on when we arrived on the Saturday and the hotel was full to capacity. The receptionist had to shout over the noise to give us room details and information. Struggled to make way through the crowd to get to our room with no assistance from the staff. The room was miles away with many staircases to go up and down - difficult when carrying luggage and no assistance. Room ok and no complaints, except a poor nights sleep due to said wedding party going on in to the small hours. Noisy residents in rooms and corridors. Probably would not have stayed here if had know there was a wedding taking place and would have stayed in one of the other hotels or B&B's locally. Had to leave immediately to go and get drinks elsewhere as nowhere to sit and relax due to the wedding. Came back for dinner but was greeted by rude restaurant staff as too busy with the wedding to be polite to other residents. Rushed through and pressured to order as they said they were busy, however restaurant not busy. Smallest rib eye steak ever! Sirloin was nice though. My husband went to the gents toilets downstairs and they were covered in vomit from said wedding party and this was very off putting! Breakfast on the first day was good as self service and plentiful. The Sunday however was table service and portions not as good. Not sure why they mix it up this way? Preferred to sit in the restaurant to eat as don't like the cafeteria element of the other room. Complained on check out to the receptionist who apologised for the wedding party and noise and said that they had drunk the bar dry the previous night. Some residents got discount on their bills for poor nights sleep but we did not get this. Think this should be offered to all not just a few. The hotel is in a nice rural area and has the potential to be very good but unfortunately lack of staff and inability to cater for any other guests if a wedding is on is disappointing.

« Excellent wedding venue; the hotel needs an update though. »

I was visiting the hotel as an overnight guest attending a friend's wedding and had fairly high expectations given the reputation of the hotel. As a wedding venue the hotel was very nice, everything was well decorated, food and drink selection was good and the staff all very pleasant; myself and the rest of the guests had a fantastic time. As a hotel, however I feel there are a few areas that could be greatly improved. Firstly the hotel looks a little tired and could do with an update/refresh, even a fresh coat of paint would make a big difference. There are a lot of creaky old floorboards which are hard not to notice at night, very noisy and sound seems to travel from all around, this, along with an uncomfortably hot room made our overnight stay a bit of a disappointment. That being said, the bed was very comfortable and the shower good; these are generally the only two things I'm concerned with. Breakfast was excellent, good selection and plenty of it! Location is ideal for local hill walking but other than that Drymen is a little out of the way for a long stay. I doubt I will be back in the near future.

    « Very lovely hotel! »

We stayed in room 50 in Sept for a weekend and the room was simply gorgeous! Spacious and with a lovely bathroom. The hotel itself is attractively decorated and furnished and feels luxurious. Our dinner in the restaurant was delicious, the menu is good and the food is prepared to perfection. The staff here are all beyond friendly and helpful and are a real credit to the hotel. We very much enjoyed our stay! I have knocked 1 star off only because the cooked buffet breakfast wasn't entirely perfect with the haggis and scrambled egg running out and there being a wait for them to be replenished. Otherwise it was lovely and a good selection.

    « Overnight stay »

Warm welcome with good service, room was clean, modern, spacious although bathroom a little cramped. We were on a DB&B rate and the evening meal was lovely with a good varied selection, breakfast cold buffet with nice bread for toast but cooked breakfast was average at best. Overall good value for money with good service and we will return.

    « Very Comfortable Stay »

We stayed here in May while walking the WHW. We stayed in room #30 and were very pleased with our room. It was very nice and it was quiet which afforded us a good restful night sleep after our first day on the trail. In the morning we had a plethora of choices for breakfast. If you go across the street and walk up the stairs there is a small park with great views.

    « Break »

Visited a number of years ago when on a Valentine's weekend & decided to return for the bank holiday week. Food was excellent, dinners were amazing. Nutella cheesecake? I intend to make that at home, and happily marry the chef as well! However on the nights of Sept 30th & Oct 1st (Fri & Sat) night some guests had a compelling urge to talk loudly, squeal & laugh, run around the corridors like badly behaved 5 year olds, rap loudly on each others room doors & slam their room doors until small hours of the morning, 01:30hrs on the morning of Sun 2nd Oct being the time I utterly lost patience. No answer when I called reception (probably doing rounds/checks) & when 2 doors slammed in succession I snapped and screamed "shut UP". It went oddly quiet after that... The room was lovely as was the pool. I usually spent a good 2hrs a time in it, I found it very relaxing and de stressed nicely after the horrible night before. I found all the staff lovely as well, gold star to James for constantly doing maintenance round the place.

« Delightful staff, quality has dipped. »

2 day getaway holiday to a place we'd stayed at before and had liked. This time around I felt that the quality of the food had somehow diminished; perhaps this was due to the current renovations/alterations being undertaken. All my meals were perfectly edible, just not exciting I'm afraid. Attentive staff (take a bow Rosie) who were all unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Our room was perfectly adequate, we had requested a walk-in shower through the booking agent, but on arrival we were advised that none existed.

    « Very nice hotel. »

The bedroom was very nice, clean, roomy, spacious. Large double bed which was very comfortable. TV, hairdryer, and brewing facilities (felt that they were a little bit tight with the one packet of two pieces of shortbread) considering the prices. Lovely bathroom, but shower over bath which can be a problem if disabled, or having back or knee issues as I was. Very slippery and difficult with no non-slip area in the bath. Needs to have a bath mat or it could be a little dangerous for anyone elderly or a little unstable. Didn't see any lifts at our side ot the hotel that too could be a problem for disabled people, lots of stairs. Lovely dining room and breakfast facilities. The menu was a little restricted with what appeared to be oven chips or salad with the main course and I had the smallest Rib-eye steak that I have ever seen, looked more like Filet, but was very tasty. Lovely swimming pool and spa but lots of stairs to get down to it. Handy for shops and village. Hairdresser to be recommended. Pleasant and helpful staff.

« Nice Hotel, shame about some of the guests!!! »

Stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby ! The was a wedding taking place in the hotel as we arrived , so the tiny bar area was so full we couldn't get served a drink ! Dinner in the restaurant was average, we only ate in once ! Rooms were spacious and clean ! However the behavior of the other guests was appalling ! he running around the corridors shouting and partying in rooms until after 4am was so uncalled for ! We complained ! Lo and behold it happened again the second night of our stay !!!! We literally only got one good nights sleep out of three ! Sadly our elderly parents were the same , hence them being exhausted !!

« Mixed service and meals »

We had a bedroom downstairs from the lounge which was not overlooked but not spacious. We ate twice in the restaurant. The first evening went fine - the vegetable broth and braised steak were both nicely done. The second evening was not so good. The restaurant was busy. Unlike the first evening there was no butter or iced water on the table, and the bread rolls were cold and only white rolls were available. Probably a case of too many diners and not enough staff. The hotel generally is looking a bit dated.

« Nice place to stay »

Reception staff were friendly and helpful and our room was spacious, quiet and clean. We were informed that normally we would have to book dinner , but as the hotel wasn't busy we could pop in when it suited us, which was great as we wanted to use the pool and sauna, which we really enjoyed, so we relaxed and made our way to the restaurant only to be told we couldn't be seated for at least an another half hour, the place was empty so we queried this, and were informed that they were short staffed. I wonder how they would have coped with people just dropping in? Food was okay but service was slow. The next morning breakfast was cold and we were served one piece of toast between , but I think as the toaster was on the blink. The waitress looked surprised when we asked if that was the full order of toast. Maybe most guests only eat half a slice? We would go back but we would eat elsewhere.

Arrived at 14.45 to be told rooms not available until 15.00 even though laterooms.com confirmation email states check in 14.00, was told by receptionist they had it wrong and we should wait in the lounge until 15.00 when somebody from housekeeping would let us know our room was ready! Public areas are a bit dated and tatty the high traffic carpets need attention really. We had booked a standard double which was on the ground floor and very small and quite claustrophobic the gap between bed and wall was "side crab & shimmy, slam your toes on the chair in the corner & smack your head on the tiny TV bolted to the wall, reverse turn shimmy past the desk chair, kick the bin, land in the passage, dive into the bathroom, one at a time please!!!!" The notice that stating do not leave valuables in your room was off putting seeing as how it was ground floor & sash windows, so we packed a bag with our valuables to go to the pool, which is nice and modern but less than relaxing as what appeared to be a large family group with a dozen under 10's ducking diving and bombing, so quick hot tub & out. Well at least we got a quiet drink before our meal in the salmon leap restaurant, did not need to book plenty tables, menu a bit dull & pricey for what we got, "chicken supreme?" nothing supreme, it was a roast chicken quarter! choice of chips or salad with all dishes, menu needs updating and varying badly, it was not thrilling. Am very glad we only stayed the one night.

I was given a warm welcome. My room was good. The choice in the Restaurant for Dinner was good and the dish i chose was beautifully cooked. There is plenty of parking, but at busy times it is better to book. A short but enjoyable visit.

    « Fantastic hotel! »

Stayed here the night of the 10th September for my cousins wedding. Ceremony started at 2 and were able to check in when we arrived at quarter to. Receptionist was very lovely and provided us with all the information regarding breakfast, check out ect and directed us to our room. The room itself was absolutely lovely, walking in to a small living space area with a good view to the back of the hotel with a sofa, TV, desk and kettle. The sleeping area was very cozy with another TV, huge bed with a gorgeous en suite bathroom. Loved the tartan decor. The bar is small and cosy, wooden seating and old fashioned architecture suited with the rugged highland area of drymen. The sitting area with its fireplace and conservatory were lovely in the nice weather and plenty of seating for all. Downstairs is where we had our delicious meal and after the staff quickly moved our tables we had a space for dancing the night away. All in all everything was fantastic and the staff were pleasant! Sadly did not get to use the spa facilities as we had to leave early today (11/11/16) but will definitely be back with the other half for a quiet weekend away.

We had our wedding here on the 8th July. The management had about 5 meetings with us to go over every little detail and how we wanted our day to go. Kitti and Colin where excellent. The venue was lovely and the Staff very friendly. Would recommend Buchannan Arms for your special day.

We attended a family wedding at this lovely hotel in August and stayed for 2 nights bed and breakfast. The wedding was beautiful. The ceremony, meal and evening reception were all under one roof and perfect. Our rooms were lovely with everything you'd expect in a hotel. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, full Scottish, Continental, fresh fruit and cereals. It set us up for a full day of travelling and sightseeing. Couldn't fault the hotel or staff. Lovely setting-off place for Loch Lomond and surrounding areas.

    « COLIN HENDERSON »

Thank u to Colin Henderson for making our visit to the Buchanan arms special, he is definitely what the hotel needs! Having bad first experience, Colin and his staff went out of their way to make sure our second visit made up for it. As long as he is there the hotel will definitely be making some amazing changes and we can't wait to see! Thanks again, ??

    « Great wedding venue »

We stayed here for one night as part of a wedding party. The ceremony and reception both took place in the hotel and the venue was excellent. I was impressed by the staff - really welcoming and friendly - and also making sure that everything went perfectly. The meal after the ceremony was lovely - everyone on our table enjoyed it. Again, the waiting staff were very good - they certainly work hard! Following the wedding reception we stayed here. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was lovely too. I had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was plentiful - buffet style with choices of cooked, cereal, continental etc. Music played in the background was discreet and entirely suitable for the morning after! I really enjoyed our stay here - the wedding was wonderful, and our accommodation was very comfortable.

Booked to stay at this hotel as myself and my husband were attending a wedding. Check in was quick, all staff are nice. Drinks are what you'd expect from a hotel, although their prices varied between bars. If they offer you room number 42,43,44 expect to climb a spiral set of stairs and low slanting ceiling. Used the leisure facilities, swimming pool not to cold. Would stay here again but not in they rooms.

    « A warm welcome awaits »

Stayed here for one night on the first day walking the West Highland Way. No complaints about anything - comfortable room, spa very welcome after a day walking, lovely dinner, and excellent breakfast to set us up for the next day. Attentive staff - nothing too much trouble. Bags taken to our room, toiletries in bathroom were good ones. Would recommend and would like to have had time to spend in Drymen itself.

We where looking for somewhere to go and have a relaxing night away and this hotel ticked all the right boxes. I would highly recommend the hotel. The staff where friendly especially the Night Porter, the house keepers and Colin the manager. The leisure facilities are great and the swimming pool is huge for a hotel. We will definitely be back!

Had one night stay with two older relatives. The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the dinner was delicious. I would have given it 5 stars if disabled access to rooms was improved ( we almost didn't get mum back upstairs - thank goodness there was a delicious breakfast at the end of it).

« Good location for exploring the area »

Greeted by very friendly staff. 5 doors and a few steps to negotiate to get to the room but fairly easy. TV kept dropping out but once reported, it was fixed promptly. The room was a good size, bed was a bit hard, could feel the springs - needs a mattress topper. The cord on the hairdryer is super short! No idea why. The room was okay but looking a bit "tired" and there was mould around the skylight in the bathroom. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food and wine was good and service efficient and friendly. Free internet that works fine and plentiful free parking on site.

« Buchanan Arms Hotel, Drymen »

We stayed here for two nights, totally enjoyed our visit here. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the meals we had were delicious. Residents lounge is very comfortable for an evening drink and our room and bed was so comfy. Don't miss the view from the top of the path directly opposite the hotel. With beautiful countryside all around, Loch Lomond a must see??

Stayed for one night and chose to enjoy the restaurant rather than the pool although the pool looked great. Food was superb and the service too - thanks Calum & co and "Gorgeous" behind the bar. All staff were very welcoming and helpful which always makes the difference.

« good hotel, nice location »

we stayed for 2 nights in one of the refurbished rooms, which were fine. My brother stayed in one of the older rooms and it wasn't that good for the money, so ask for a new room if you stay here. Nice pool, relaxing Jacuzzi and steam room. food was very good and can recommend it. Only downside was a mix up over the rate - we were quoted and told at booking in that we were (correctly) on a B&B rate, confirmed at check in. however at breakfast we were told in no uncertain terms that we'd been told incorrectly and that it would be charged. Two issues with this: we may not have stayed here if that WAS the case, and secondly any mistake was the hotels - not the customer. Why the staff tried to make it the customers problem is something that was quite annoying to be confronted with at breakfast. poor service aside, a nice hotel and would recommend it.

    « Relaxing »

Had a nice relaxing few days I travelled alone and felt safe and comfortable here. Best place for a meal is in the Salmon Leap restaurant, I ate out in two other places but the hotel was the best. The rooms a spacious and clean and facilities are adequate. Enjoyed the pool area and the steam room. I used the small gym which was adequate for my needs. There is a lovely viewpoint across from the hotel which has to be visited for the peace and tranquility. I visited Balmaha and had lunch in the Oak Tree and also Lomond Shores in Balloch.

Great family wedding. Stayed 4 days. Hotel has nice layout to cater for all ages. Pool is very good. Weather was kind to us 21C. So outdoor wedding in a dedicated area. First time for me. Worked well. Fine rooms and breakfast plus wedding meal was well organised. Staff throughout my stay were friendly and helpful. Why not 5 stars from me? If I have an issue it was price of soft drinks £2.45 for a small bottle of coke is daylight robbery IMO. Overall great location, with within easy walking distance superb local pubs and places to eat if you fancy a change. Thanks

This hotel is in a nice location and only a few minutes drive from the Loch The hotel is a lovely old building and the reception and lounges/ bar are decorated to a high standard In our bedroom the wallpaper was peeling in places and there was small stains on the carpet and was definitely in need of redecorating Internet is very 'hit & miss' The pool and showers/ changing areas were very clean Enjoyable stay!

    « A wonderful hotel »

My friend and I stayed at the Buchanan Armsl on a coach tour of the Trossachs. I can't recommend it highly enough. The beds (and pillows!) were so comfy, it was hard to get up in the mornings, The shower (once I had worked it out!) was beautifully warm. It was also lovely to have 2 decent, comfortable chairs to sit in to watch the tv. The pool was clean and comfortably warm. We were only sorry that we only managed one swim. due to our coach companies very long day's itineraries. The food, considering we were on a coach holiday, was first class. The highlight of our 4 night stay was seeing the bats flying around....not to everyones taste I guess but it made it so much more special for us. The staff were very helpful and particularly in the restaurant. Would recommend to anyone if they are in the area.

The hotel was lovely, well furnished. The hall for the wedding was well spaced for dinner not so much for dancing. Food was fantastic. Our room was good size however the lights weren't working, the staff did try and move us but couldn't find us during the wedding so gave us a discount to make up for it. The staff were lovely and charming as well. Breakfast was delicious. Overall this hotel is lovely and i would recommended it for everyone .

I stayed here on a dbb deal with 3 friends and can't fault the hotel on anything, was apprehensive of my visit after reading some trip advisor comments and can honestly say some people write some rubbish on here. The hotel is spotless, modern with excellent food in the restaurant and also served at the buffet breakfast, the staff were all lovely, very helpful and friendly, they made sure your stay at the hotel was a relaxing experience. We had cream tea in the conservatory before making use of the hotels lovely leisure facilities. We stayed in room 36 which was spacious, clean and modern with a lovely modern bathroom. I can't wait to return to this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to my friends.

Stayed here for an overnight with friends on a special bed breakfast dinner and cream tea deal . Very warm welcome on check in and we were able to check in early to our rooms . We had rooms 35 and 36 which were spacious and comfortable with nice clean and fresh bathrooms . Lovely fresh scones with jam cream and strawberries were served to us in a bright conservatory area .We used the pool and sauna then enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant then drinks in the bar .We slept well then made the most of the buffet breakfast which had a good choice and was very tasty . We had heard mixed reviews but have nothing but praise for the hotel and all the staff who were courteous friendly and very helpful . We all enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return .we would not hesitate to recommend

    « Nice location »

I was attending a wedding which was at 2pm. Booked a room but check in at 3pm which incurred an early check in fee of £20 - £10 per hour to access the room at 1pm. It was worth it, but sad to say some of the guests (one of 93 years old) were sitting with their suitcases in the lounge as either didn't know/ were not advised/didn't want to pay extra that they could have their room early .I understand they have to prepare the rooms, but there should be some leeway for wedding guests who are staying the night and paying for the room.

    « Disappointing »

I stayed here many years ago and had a lovely luxurious weekend so was delighted when I got a B&B rate within my company budget for a work trip. Well there's a reason its not expensive!. Bed was comfortable, public areas clean (but lacking atmosphere). The let down was the food - menu looked ok as did the meal but both starter an main were tasteless. Breakfast was a hot buffet - never my favorite and for all the custom there appeared to be it would have probably been simpler to freshly cook each meal. The Bar had a very limited choice of beers and wifi was terrible, with no availability beyond the main public areas - simply not acceptable in this day and age.

« Quaint Hotel in Beautiful Sctoland »

We stayed here during our honeymoon trip around Scotland. Our time at the Buchanan Arms was a pleasant time. The room was cozy and located in the rear which made for a quiet location overlooking the woods behind. The foyer and lounge are a great place to sit, relax, and plan your day. The pool and spa area was very nice. We enjoyed the sauna as well. We dined at the restaurant in the hotel one night and had great service by a young man who knew service well. Being in the restaurant industry I unfortunately can't help but notice poor service and standards at many places we go but this guy was outgoing, attentive, and really helpful with suggestions galore. A quick jaunt across the street and down a path leads to a gorgeous vista with a couple of benches to sit and enjoy the view. A couple minutes walk into town leaves you with with couple of dining options. This hotel would be on my list anytime I would return to the Trossachs. A great location for any and all adventures through this part of Scotland!

I recently attended a funeral gathering in this hotel. The staff were welcoming and friendly but discreet. The buffet food of sandwiches and quiches was delicious, of a really superior standard. « Visit to Drymen »

Buchanan Arms looks lovely and to be honest I cannot fault the Hotel, rooms, Reception and Bar staff . The Poll was ok too but the jacuzzi had so much chlorine in it it stung our eyes and had to get out. The worst part was the food, in short horrific. The dinner was overcooked and wasnt even really what we ordered my wife ordered spatchcock chicken and got chicken balmoral. My steak was ordered blue and was delivered well done and was half fat. The breakfast in bed was even worse obvioullsy left under a heat lamp for a few years before we got it. rating hotel 4/5 food 1/5.

    « Could of been excellent !!! »

Booked promotional rate including breakfast for £52 via Best Western central reservation and asked for an upgrade if possible. On arrival was given room 37 which was an extremely large room with huge bed. Looked impressive except for dirty water leak stain on ceiling and one of the chairs which had faux leather pealing of the cushion. Went to the restaurant to eat and decided to eat outside as was lovely evening. Ordered a beer and the chicken. After 45 minutes wait food came but no beer. Was told I had to get my own beer as they couldn't serve it outside. Water walked off so I asked if he could find me a table inside. No offer of him taking the plate inside. I was then shown a table . The piece of chicken was tiny looked over cooked and the portion of chips was tiny. I then sat waiting for my beer and eventually gave up and left the restaurant. Subsequently the manager came to my room I think his name was Colin. What a lovely gentleman and so professional. Offered his apologies and wanted to know how he could rectify it. He explained that they had problems with the licensing outside and couldn't serve guest outside although guest could purchase drinks and take them outside Just wish the waiter had told me this on ordering so I didn't have to wait outside for 45 minutes. The room was clean, bed extremely comfortable decent shower . Nice breakfast in the morning. The hotel is in a good location and within 10 minutes drive of Loch Lomond. Considering what I paid I would say it was good value. With attention to detail quick emulsion of the dirty stain and new chair this could of been an excellent stay. With the service in the restaurant and the presentation of the meal I was left disappointed. I would possibly stay again but may consider eating elsewhere.

Room 23. Avoid if possible. Severe damp in one corner with wallpaper peeling off. Sink didnot empty properly. Worst of all, a very dubious 'spill' of some sort running down the inside of the door. Blood, gravy or makeup?? When I reported it to reception on checkout they were brisk, told me they would get housekeeping to sort it but no apology. £110 for a night b+B here. Shocking. Just wish there had been a Premier Inn close by. We could have had the works for less than half this and the room would have been spotless. Shame on you Best Western.

I purchased a flash deal and it was £42 pp DB&B with a cream tea for my fiance 's birthday. FANTASTIC value for money. Lovely reception, bar and restaurant staff, they couldnt have been more helpful and courteous. The pool area was lovely and we had it to ourselves most of the time. There were two large coach parties in but that did not cause any delay in the dinner service which i have found in other hotels. Our room, number 31 was lovely, very clean and well presented. Reception - appears to vary was good at check in but at check out attempted to provide feedback but was shut down. Room - was great good sleep and modern bathroom. Meals - buffet breakfast was ok but meal at night was terrible. we ordered the chicken which should have been served with dauphinoise potatoes but after tasteless starter were advised it would be served with mash. the mash was dry and although had a puree and mushrooms no veg for £15 would have expected better. During our meal waitresses were banging glasses down at next table as well as using a noisy cafe tyoe spray. luckily it didnt come near us. spa - what spa no treatments as therapists moved out? why is this still being advertised online? sauna room door is broken and steam room spits out boiling water at foots of seat where the poster on the wall asks you to sit??! I did attempt to discuss this after check out and payment made but was told it costs money for 110 per room i expect better. One night here on a weekend away in Scotland. Paid extra for an executive room and was given room 23 but nothing executive about the room. Filthy carpets, stains on the paintwork, wall paper mouldy and lifting off the wall. See my uploaded photos. The bathroom looked new though and was lovely. Food was ok but nothing special and have had a better steak at a Beefeater. Staff were good and friendly. Road outside was noisy with boy-racers and bikers. Needs a bit of money spent on tidying the rooms up.

Here with a group walking the West Highland Way. Accommodation was quite OK but perhaps our room was on the waiting list for the next renovating cycle? I didn't like the plastic mattress protectors on the bed, but these were easily removed to get a better sleep. Notwithstanding, wifi worked OK and there was plenty of hot water. Our meals were a choice of 3 from a set menu (all good) but have no idea what the menu items were for others. Beers are cheaper in the pub up the road.

Stayed here after walking the first part of the WHW on 21st June. First impressions were good, reception was friendly and bags had already been dropped off by Travelite (Great WHW baggage transfer service). Room was clean, spacious and had the usual tea, coffee and biscuits, etc. Nice view of garden and quiet overnight. Nice looking bar and lounge area & friendly staff. Didn't eat in the restaurant so no review for dinner. Breakfast was "ok" - hot and cold buffet which I'm never that keen on.

A surprise night way for mums 60th Birthday, myself (41) little sister (35) and niece (7). Fantastic family room (No 48) massive bed with 2 pull down beds, a leather 3 seater and single sofa and lovely bathroom. A dinner and bed breakfast deal. Check in nice and smooth, lovely reception lady explained all facilities and times for breakfast etc. Dinner was good, waiting staff very friendly and busy due to bank holiday weekend. Lovely dinner, relaxing atmosphere. Dinner booked for 8.30 pm left at 10.20. Excellent night sleep and spa facilities good. Breakfast was good, could not ask for anything more, very relaxed, clean and spacious. Only disadvantage was no recognition of my mother's 60th Birthday, as I stated it at the booking process and when I checked in and booked dinner for that evening. A lovely drive to the hotel and staff are a credit to the hotel, all friendly and always attentive. Hopefully visit again in the future.

« Much improved with new management »

Previously I'd had a pretty poor experience with Buchanan Arms Hotel and Spa, specifically with their spa/afternoon tea deal. When the hotel was taken over by new management, they were keen to ensure I wasn't left with a bad impression of the hotel. The second time round, our experience of the hotel, staff and service could not have been more different. Friendly staff were on hand to show us to the spa (which we were allowed to use in this instance, already an improvement from the previous experience). Although the pool and facilities ended up quite busy, everyone managed to use the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi as they wished. When we went up to the restaurant for afternoon tea, we also had a much more pleasant experience than before. The room which we were served in had been refurbished since the last time, with everything clean, fresh and staff on top of their game. Again it ended up quite busy before we left but everything ran smoothly and the selection of food itself was delicious and more than we could manage. The staff offered us the chance to take home our uneaten cakes in a box, which we were grateful for as they were delicious. I can't believe how much this hotel has turned round in a year.

« A warm welcome, comfortable room and quiet »

We recently spent a couple of nights here, with the first being coinciding with a wedding party. We were a little nervous about this but the function suite is at the front away from rooms and our room at the back of the hotel was very quiet. Many good points: Welcome by staff was warm and friendly. Excellent location in a quiet village with a great viewing point a short walk up a hill opposite The room was clean, quiet and bed very comfortable The spa was never crowded, with large pool steam room and sauna. Full Scottish breakfast superb, loved the haggis. Dining room nicely decorated and relaxing Only minor negative points: Broken wifi and local mobile coverage only GPRS level on O2 but then again we were trying to get away from it all! However, temporary coverage was provided in public areas. Cold showers in the spa unless ran all of the showers for a while.

    « Nice place »

Room was clean and bright. Was in a nice location but was a wee bit tricky to find due to google maps having it placed in a different street. Once booked in it was easy to find way about the town with shops and restaurants near by.

    « Amazing value »

Went here with my partner and his daughter for a wee night away and we had a great time. We were greated by the happiest and friendliest receptionist ever! We had a family room and it was very comfortable, clean and had a huge tv, although I found the room a bit warm we managed to turn the radiators off and have the windows open. My step daughter has a sofa bed and she said she had a great sleep as did we and asked when we were coming back. All the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was a problem. We found it exceptional for a 3 star as we have been in 4 and 5 star hotels whoare nowhere near as good as this. The breakfast had plenty of choice and was fresh and tasty. We did not manage the spa this time but as we are definitely coming back we will the next time.

« a stopover on way to Skye »

a stopping point on way to skye not the best Best western Hotel we have ever stayed in,a very basic room, dark and uninviting, at the end of a long corridor. checked out the leisure facilities saw fitness room with ventilation covered in dust so left. Tea /coffee limited to one cup as was towels and soap. We found the room too depressing and in need of decoration so we checked out next morning, However the food was good in the evening and breakfast was acceptable and plentiful.

We arrived this hotel much later than anticipated due to my wife's severe fall, followed by ambulance trip and A/E treatment. Phoned hotel to inform of our delay and the reply was that chef would make sure we had something to eat on arrival. We arrived shortly before restaurant closing time, but our table had been held for us and we were able to have a proper meal which was very enjoyable. Breakfast was buffet, but with a wide choice of menu. The room was comfortable and clean in a quiet part of the hotel, the only sound the following morning was birdsong! The hotel is a bit out of the way, but an excellent location for visiting Loch Lomond area.

« Afternoon Tea to die for ! »

We received a voucher for an afternoon tea and spa day and used it on Sunday 15th May , on arrival at reception we were told to head through to coffee shop and we would be served our afternoon tea there, I asked if we could sit in restaurant as not keen on coffee shop , The lady on reception asked if we would like to be served in the conservatory which we went for. After a while enjoying the pool and spa facilities we headed back upstairs to conservatory where afternoon tea was served . OMG what can I say !!! Amazing !!! the choice of sandwiches and cakes on offer was fantastic and very fresh ,no stale bread, limp lettuce or frozen cakes and real cream !!!!!! and four of everything so no sharing cakes ( which we don't like to do lol ) The young guy who served us couldn't have been more helpful service was great. Very very pleased Colin thank you for arranging for my party we will definitely be back .

    « Location? »

Although our GPS had a little trouble locating the hotel we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The public areas in this hotel are furnished to a very high standard ... very "country manor" . Our room was very pleasant and it was so nice to be able to open the windows for some fresh air. I can't complain about the room, bed or bathroom except to say it could do with a little TLC. While Drymen is a quaint little town with a good selection of small stores, it isn't within easy walking distance of the Loch as I thought it would be.

    « Disgusted »

This was a lovely hotel we were just saying we would be booking to come back as we go away every Sunday as a wee break from kids, we have had some amazing breaks away on a Sunday to Monday , however at 11:20am we had slightly overslept and if this has happened before reception would give us a wee call on the phone , and no other hotel has ever bothered if this has happened ....however we were woke up by a thumping on the door and an abrupt rude woman shouting , "your checkout was 11" so get out the room !!! I have never experienced such a rude way of treating guests , I said sorry we had just slept in she said I don't care reception sent me up to get you out , I then asked what her name is she did I'm Lynn head of housekeeping , i quickly got ready and went to reception shaking and could hardly speak with the shock of being shouted at like that ...I said to reception she said Ye I did ask her to tell you but not like that manner so you will have to take this up with Colin the manager , which I'd have expected him to call me but as yet hasn't , I run a very successful large successful business , and I treat my clients with respect and appreciation so this will not be doing any favour for the hotel as word of mouth is the best form of advertising

    « Good base »

Have just spent 4 very pleasant days here.A spacious room (21) large, soft towels and an excellent pool. Service varied depending on the staff on and twice our restaurant bill was incorrect but generally the food was good and when a problem it was s eedily resolved. It was an excellent base for the area.

« Great spa, average lunch »

We used a Groupon voucher which gave £10 off a treatment each and lunch, with access to the spa. The spa treatments were excellent, real nice girls and they flexed the treatment to meet our own needs. I have a 55 mininute mainly back massage and my daughter full body. We had to get changed again for the spa and should have asked for a towel before our treatment as the changing room is just across from the spa. The changing room was clean with powerful hairdryers. The swimming pool was a good size with sauna (not that hot), steam room and jucuzzi bath. The area was clean and the staff very pleasant. The lunch in the coffee house was okay, door step sandwiches were fresh but everything came with mayonnaise and the chicken, bacon one was very salty. The chicken tikka panini was better nad both came with lovely coleslaw and sald and dried vegetable crisps. The cake selection was good, but a cold drink was £2.75 which is steep. The service was okay but we saw many people waiting a long time to have their order taken and the place wasn't that busy.

    « Great Staff »

There are signs stating that the staff are in training, no need, our staff were great, competent and helpful. Sadly not the case for the food, over done chips, under cooked jacket potatoes, over cooked fish in an average dining area. This is a fantastic venue overall but sadly under used, next to the 'cafe' is a lovely dining room which we have used in the past and a comfortable lounge area which we took our coffee in. I understand if a proper lunch is not served due to lack of trade but I suggest a better cooked lunch in the dining area might bring better reviews and provide a better setting.

    2
    « Not impressed »

We ordered 6 meals which were presented very well but the fish was tasteless, the panini was a grease sandwich, sausage and mash was so small I was still hungry after I ate it. For a best western I would advise people to try somewhere else around there.

    « Amazing wedding Day »

Our wedding day at the Buchanan Arms Hotel was amazing. I can't thank all the staff enough for making our day run as smooth as it did, even with 21 children attending. My Husband and I had a great day as did all of our family and friends. Kitty the wedding planner is amazing. Nothing was a bother to her from the planning stage to being there on the day. She was checking on us throughout the morning (myself and my bridal party stayed the night before) to make sure everything was okay. She even sorted my dress ( various times) and the Groom and Best Mans socks and shoes which was above and beyond her duties. Once Kitty left on the night of the wedding we were left in the very capable hands of Becky & Colin who made our evening reception run just as smooth as the day. The food was great from breakfast to the wedding meal. The in house DJ was also great he knew what to play to get everyone up dancing and was happy to play anyone's request. Most of our day guests stayed overnight and no1 had any complaints, rooms were lovely, breakfast was great and the leisure facilities also went down a treat to cure the hangovers. Would 100% recommend The Buchanan Arms Hotel to anyone not just for a wedding but for an overnight stay. Excellent wedding packages and great value for money. Thanks again everyone at The Buchanan Arms. Jodie & Ally Ferguson x

    « Lovely Welcoming Cafe »

Stopped off at the Buchannan Arms Cafe as we were looking for a dog friendly place to stop and have a cup of tea and cake before driving back to Edinburgh with our new rescue dog we had just picked up from the Dunbartonshire SPCA centre. As it was an unusually pleasant afternoon we knew we just needed a pub with tables outside. We spotted the Buchannan Arms and stopped expecting just to get a cold drink at least. However we were very pleasantly surprised to find a lovely, stylishly decorated cafe attached to the hotel. My husband and daughter sat outside with Woody our new member of the family and I popped into the cafe. There were signs up saying staff were being trained and asking for a little patience, but this was not needed. The staff were excellent and even though I had popped in just before they were closing, they couldnt have beem more helpful. Lots of nice cakes to choose from but as I am on a gluten free diet, I had to ask if they had anything gluten free. The very helpful girl behind the counter immediately popped into the kitchen and came out suggesting that the chef could make me up a meringue with cream and fruit, which I was very pleased to say yes to. I ordered drinks and lovely lemon meringue cupcakes for the rest of my family, and the girl offered to bring the meringue out when it was ready. I wasn't disappointed when it arrived as it was a sumptuous combination of free cream and a variety of forest fruit toppings, from red currants to blackberries and raspberries. It was really nice to find somewhere, that didn't treat you like an inconvenience if you turned up 15 mins before they closed, and was happy to concoct a replacement to make up for them not having the actual thing you wanted. Would definitely go there again, and commend the staff training as it is clearly superior to many other cafes I have experienced lately.

« Groupon lunch and spa »

Received a Groupon voucher worth £40 for lunch and spa so decided to book an overnight stay as we got engaged in the hotel a few years ago and loved it. lunch consisted of a sandwich with some crisps on the side, hot drink and a cupcake. Spa facilities are quite poor.Rooms are tired and grubby looking and not worth the £150 we paid . Requested room service for breakfast at an additional fee, this arrived half an hr late, cold and half the order missing . I discussed this with the manager who did not seem interested in my complaint and was quite rude! Will not be back which is a sham as we had so many good memories from our first visit.

    « Groupon Visit »

I was given a voucher deal as part of my Mother's Day gift from my 16 year old daughter. I have used a groupon voucher at this hotel before, I had a two course lunch and a £10 voucher towards any treatment. Our visit last year was amazing and all I could do was rave about the place. Lunch was fantastic, treatment was one of the best I've had. So you can imagine my friend and i were looking forward to visiting this time around. To say I was disappointed and angry is an understatement. We were ushered into what can only be describe as a truckers cafe, wooden tables and benches certainly not in keeping with the rest of this hotel. We were then give a laminated sheet which gave us a choice of sandwich fillings on a bloomer loaf or panini of which they actually didn't have. Tea/coffee and a cake! I was so taken aback as the voucher deal had clearly stated a 2 course lunch! On realising this was our lot we ordered, when it came my sandwich was served with half a dozen corn chips and a limp oil covered salad. Disgusting! We then chose a cake, which was dry, and a cup of tea. It was certainly a long way to go for a sandwich, had I actually wanted a sandwich for lunch the very last place I would have went was Drymen. I feel my daughter was totally ripped off and that this is probably the most expensive sandwich I've ever had. From having previously raved about his hotel and the lunch and spa I am certainly not doing so this time and will most certainly not be back. May I suggest that the hotel describe exactly what's on offer in future therefor preventing yet another negative review.

« Clean, tidy, comfortable, friendly staff, lovely food, idyllic location »

Stayed here on a business trip in March 2016. I was pleasantly surprised with my room. Contemporary decoration, very clean, tidy and comfortable, with a large tv, and comfortable chair and desk to catch up on some work. The restaurant staff were very friendly and the food was beautiful (steak). The hotel was also situated in a scenic location, however I unfortunately did not have time to explore the area, and would therefore love to return with the family to do so.

    « 5th visit of the year...so far! »

Another fabulous stay at our favourite short break hotel; our 5th in a year. Its safe to say we'll be back soon. This hotel is so friendly and full of character. We like to stay in a particular room which we request when booking (easy to do and encouraged by the hotel). The food is absolutely excellent, both dinners and breakfasts. Standards of rooms are very comfy and cosy. Leisure facilities are very good, with a mix of adults and children. The character of the hotel is fabulous, but the real stars are the staff, particularly the new staff since our last visit. They can't do enough for you (without being fake or overbearing) and happily chat away. When we visited this time, a wedding was on which created a different sort of atmosphere, but equally as nice. Thanks for another lovely stay.

    « Voucher deal »

My friends and I were given a 2 course lunch and spa deal via groupon and visited today. The voucher clearly stated 2 course lunch so when we were given menu to choose a sandwich and a cupcake we queried it with the manager. She advised that it was just the sandwich even though she agreed that it said 2 course lunch and when we booked we were told it would be better than an afternoon tea. We ordered and one of our sandwiches a white bloomer the bread was stale and had to be replaced, and the old tomato stalk had been left wilted in the side salad. The other 3 were good and no issues however this was another disappointment on our day out. Drinks - £2.45 for a bottle of irn bru X 4 you can get a 2 litre bottle for £1.99! very over priced - don't think I will return any time soon.

Very friendly welcome on arrival. Bedroom was large with 2 single beds 2 chairs and table also a desk and yes 9 plug sockets. I ate my evening meals in the bar same choice as the restaurant. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. A pint of lager £3.75. Leisure club has a good gym pool sauna. Bedding and towels clean and fresh. Breakfast good choice of cold and hot buffet. Cant fault my 2 night stay. Will definitely use again when in the area.

    « one night break »

Stayed here on an Easybreak DB&B deal. Overall, we enjoyed the stay. The Hotel is 3*, and that is just about right. Our room was at the back and was satisfactorily clean and tidy. There was only single glazing, so there was some condensation on the windows in the morning. The room was warm enough, but only JUST. No amount of adjusting the radiator valve made any difference, although there was hot water in the feed pipe. Also there was a room above us and the footsteps were VERY noticeable. Bathroom was fine, although there was no loo brush (a bugbear of mine). There was a £22.50 per person allowance for dinner on our deal and this was adequate, although you can expect to pat £20 minimum for a bottle of wine. The food was good, although a little on the "nouvelle cuisine" side. We had room for dessert, which we usually don't bother with. Bar prices a little above what I would normally pay. There is a spa etc. which we did not use. Overall we enjoyed the stay and felt we got reasonable value for our outlay. Would recommend.

    « Girly weekend »

Just back from weekend here and we all enjoyed our stay. Our rooms were of good quality and were nicely furnished. The décor throughout the hotel is traditional and well suited to its surroundings. We were there for Murder Mystery themed night which was just okay. We were told to be there for a prompt start at 7 and it didn't begin until 8. We felt this went on for too long, but enjoyed the disco afterwards. The food served had mixed reviews - nothing to write home about, but our party seemed to enjoy the breakfast next morning. More bar staff needed at function hall at night. Only 1 serving most of the time and it was very slow service. Wouldn't put my off staying again, but wouldn't rush back for a themed night.

« GREAT WEE SPA AND LUNCH DAY, FANTASTIC SCENERY »

Having purchased a Groupon voucher to visit the Hotel at only £21.00 for 2 people this was good value for money. I visited with my husband and 2 grown up children. On arrival the receptionist was polite and informative. I had already booked our lunch by phone for 1.30pm She explained how the voucher worked and we made our way to the spa. The changing rooms were very clean (although the ladies were a little on the small side). We then proceeded to the gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. They were all clean and maintained to a reasonable standard. The gym looked like it could do with a little updating however I did not use this. The steam Room seats all had cracks which need to be repaired and the steam came out of a pipe underneath one of the seats which was extremely hot if you were sitting directly above. We then all proceeded to lunch which was included in the price. The lunch was basic but very good there was a choice of different sandwiches or paninis, tea, coffee and a muffin. Overall a really good day out, nice location, good service and I would recommend to everyone. The Hotel had some lovely old features and it was very well kept.

    « Lovely »

I took a friend here for a birthday treat. All areas were spotlessly clean, the staff were very friendly and smartly dressed. Breakfast and dinner was great particularly loved the beef and sticky toffee pudding. The only complaint was the prices for drinks and spa treatment. My friend says she pays those sort of prices at Gleneagles. I too thought £3.25 for a Bacardi and a further £2.45 for a bottle of Diet Coke was too much however, not being a big drinker it didn't spoil my break but my friend loves treatments etc and felt the charges were too high.

« Great hotel with exceptional service »

This is our second time staying at this hotel. The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was sumptuous and we had a great nights sleep. They also have a great pool and spa and a lovely bar with a large, well appointed room for residents to relax in. Our son is a very fussy eater and when we checked in we looked at the evenings menu and there was nothing on it that our son would eat so asked if it would be possible for them to provide a cheese and tomato pizza for him. They did not hesitate a second and said that would not be a problem, and it wasn't. We had a lovely meal that night in the restaurant and the food was very good. The breakfast was also really good the next morning. I would recommend this hotel for a nice relaxing break but would say that there is not much of any interest in Drymen so take your swimsuit and make the most of the pool.

« Fabulous Mini break in beautiful surroundings! »

Second time at this Hotel and will definitely be back. All the Hotel Staff were first class - so warm and friendly, nothing was ever too much trouble. A special mention to Lisa who always went out of her way to look after us. The breakfast buffets were delicious and the dinners great, too, with lots of choice. There were a few problems in the restaurant just one evening when it was exceptionally busy, the service slow and the meal not up to the standard of the other evenings but that seemed to be just a blip in an otherwise excellent few days. The Leisure Centre was also amazing, especially the swimming pool and the staff there couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.

« Overnight stay on way to Highlands »

Had a nice stay on way to Highlands. The staff were friendly and the food was good. We were originally put in a large room as far away from reception as we could be, The windows didn't close very well and the internet wouldn't work at all. The nice receptionist let us move rooms so that we could use the internet and although the room was in a noisier part of the hotel just beside a fire door I was much happier there and the bathroom was better maintained. If the internet is important to you I advise asking the hotel to give you a room near reception. I enjoyed a nice swim in the pool . Would be happy to stay again,

    « Really Disappointing »

Went for a one night stay for our wedding anniversary. Room was ok, unable to go to the bathroom without the door hitting your back. Later in the evening we went for dinner. Food was great but service very slow (possibly due to being busy), however waited 50 minutes for our plates to be taken away, after I requested it and after 4 members of staff seeing the plates lying there. Restaurant staff appeared quite rude and more interested in getting more people in that serving the ones that were already seated. Spa facilities were good however the Sauna was not available, although when booking we were told it was available. Very disappointing first visit and bad first impression. Would not recommend sadly.

« Nice hotel - but tired looking rooms »

Stayed for 2 nights. On arrival our room was ready - ahead of check in time so this is always a bonus. However, it smelt of damp. We spoke to reception who had us moved straight away. The bedrooms were okay, but very tired looking. Would benefit greatly from a repaint. The grounds also could do with some TLC. On the other hand the restaurant, bar, and lounge area were lovely. Great décor and atmosphere. Gym was large and good and the swimming pool was okay. When we chose to use it there were swimming lessons for children using half the pool, so probably just bad timing on our behalf. All staff were friendly and attentive.

    « Great 2 night stay »

We stayed here with our 4 friends through a "my hotelbreak.com" (formerly known as Classic Britain) 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast for the price of 1 deal. Fantastic value for money. Bedrooms were of a decent size, nicely furnished and comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style and plentiful. Evening dinner was excellent and a good choice of dishes from the menu. Leisure facilities were good - decent sized pool, jacuzzi, steam room - although the sauna wasn't working during our visit. Hotel decor very, very nice and there's a lovely conservatory to sit and relax day or night. Staff were nice. Nice little village with a few shops, another 2 hotels and a pub. Also a few bed and breakfast establishments. Lovely little tearoom called "skoosh". A nice little retreat for relaxation. Would recommend.

    « 4 day family get-together over Easter »

We booked three double rooms for our group. We have visited this Hotel many times before and praised it highly. We were disappointed this time to find that the two large fires in the residents lounge are no longer active. Complaining of feeling cold we asked if they could be lit only to have it explained to us that they are now only used with paraffin "for effect" but they had no paraffin in them! We had two small fan heaters plugged in, one at either side of the fireplace and another two placed by the side of the other fireplace in the Lounge. This is no replacement for the bonhomie of the blazing fires we associated with this hotel. There also seems to be no service in the lounge and you go up to the Bar to order. One of our group complained about the room (No. 23) being cold and thought it was a faulty radiator but, in fact, the heating is off during the day and she was given one of these hated little fan heaters. On the whole this is a lovely hotel with lovely, friendly staff and I write this constructively. Please think about lighting your fires again. On the whole the food in the main restaurant was excellent but at lunchtime on our last day there (29/03/16) we went for lunch at the Coothie restaurant and three of us had baked potatoes with cold filling (cheese) and the potatoes were actually cold. The charming waitress took our plates away and when we got them back we had tepid potatoes with melted cheese and the potatoes were on the wrong plates - we had dressings on the salads so could tell this. We didn't complain again as the waitress in the restaurant was so attentive and nice - just decided to accept it was the best whoever was doing the food that day could manage. The Spa was used and given a glowing report so happy clients there. This Hotel is in a beautiful area and has a very special relaxed feel about it.

« The hotel with great everything! »

This is my wife and I's 8th visit here in the last 3 years. This visit was just a relaxing overnight as we recently became parents for the first time and this was us getting a wee night away just the two of us. As always arriving in Drymen is a pleasure as its one of the most quaint places you can get so close to Glasgow. Check in is always and easy non complicated process. We then went for lunch in their new Coothie Coffee Shop. Food great and at such a reasons price. When then went to our room, clean, fresh and everything in it we would need. After unpacking we then headed off to the leisure suite. Buchanan Arms can be proud of a very well equipped Gym, descent size pool and three main attractions Jacuzzi, Sauna & Steam Room. The changing rooms are extremely clean and well maintained. As it was a complete chilled night we were having we ordered room service for dinner. The food was once again of great quality and also piping hot on arrival at our door. The best thing about Buchanan Arms is the breakfast, we filled the slips out to have breakfast in bed (you choose everything from what's in your plate to what time you want it arriving.) the breakfast was superb I am also led to believe it's all locally sourced produce. All in all Buchanan Arms is a lovely hotel which caters for your every need, I will never stay anywhere else when in and around the Drymen area!

Myself and my mum came for a chill out birthday treat at the Haven Spa. The therapists (Emma and Joanne) were wonderful and pampered us for 50 minutes before we went upstairs to the relaxation room for complementary chocolates and tea. I would highly recommend the facial and massage combo treatment! We then went for a swim in the clear pool and relaxed in the warm jacuzzi. The staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Can't recommend enough!! We will definitely be back!

    « A Disappointing Expreience »

Stayed for 1 night to break a trip north. The room booked was adequate but nothing special and it wasn't warm (although I don't like rooms to be too hot) but in the morning the old single glaze windows were running with condensation. The evening meal was nice but the breakfast left a bit to be desired. I am not a lover of a lukewarm buffet. The bar when I was there didn't lack atmosphere but then a drunk talking loudly and frequently punctuating his conversation with the f word is not what you want to hear either. The worst however, was the inconsiderate behaviour of some guests who were partying in their room and chatting loudly until 5 am. Tried the night porter to get them to shut up but no luck - maybe he was getting the sleep we weren't! The management were apologetic when we were checking out but no amount of compensation makes up for a lost night's sleep, particularly when you have a long journey ahead. Even without the noise and the drunkard issue, it would not be a place I would return to and having stayed in another place nearby, I would choose that and leave the Buchanan Arms well alone.

    « Honeymoon trip. »

Very small, uninviting rooms & bathroom, although both were very clean. Limited evening menu. Little atmosphere in the bar / lounge area on a night and as the hotel is pretty isolated there wasn't much else to do! The pool was a welcome activity but was not the warmest we've used!

Overnight stay for my husband on i on journey through scotland. Reception friendly and room clean. Pool and facilities poor (sauna broke, hairdryer broke). Requested wake up call for 8. Nothing happened so dont rely on this. Mentioned it at reception. No apology just said "would look into it". Not really a satisfactory response if we had needed to be somewhere! Now to the breakfast. Oh dear! I have read previous reviews saying breakfast poor and managers response saying this has now improved. Unfortunately this is not the case. A pleasant lady tells you to "sit anywhere". Problem being most tables full of dirty pots. Eventually found a clean one but then couldnt find any milk or butter which all the tables should have. When my husband asked for butter it was as if he had asked for something no one had heard off. Food was very disappointing and tasted like it had been there a very long time. We will not be going again....my husband had booked for May whilst touring with two colleagues but these bookings will be cancelled. Overall very disappointing. Worth paying slightly more probably and staying just down the road.

    « Disappointing Visit »

Went here with a friend for her birthday kn a groupon deal which was use of spa and a 2 course lunch. We arrived in the middle of a wedding which give credit to the bride id be livid with randoms in the midst of my wedding day!!! Anyway it was not a 2 course lunch but a very drab panini and an average tasting cake. Service was appaulling waited 30 minutes for a panini really?? Also got chips that came 15 mins later and were hard yuk! Never cleared plates or asked how anything was. Onto the spa it was ok but jacuzzi had way to much chlorine in it and 5 people max could fit it! Sauna was broke and steam room was literally a box with 5 seats had cracks on them and i only found this out when my friend and i sat up ans caught our leg leaving a cut!! Couldnt see as it was very steamy obviously! Changing rooms/toilets were vile and had luke warm showers with almost see through showers. So disappointed maybe in this case you do get what you pay for. Will not return or recommend sadly.

    « Perfect weekend getaway! »

Stayed here with friends last night and it was one of the best weekends we have had. The rooms are lovely, modern and spacious. We had dinner bed and breakfast which can sometimes be hit or miss but the food was lovely. The salmon pasta is definitely worth trying! Breakfast was self service, plenty of choice and hot breakfast was really nice, fresh and replenished often. Although we didn't use the facilities of pool, spa and gym it did look good. We will definitely be back for another stay and next time we will definitely be having some spa treatments! The staff in the hotel were all really nice and friendly, very accommodating. We would definitely recommend this hotel!

« Lovely hotel in a beautiful location »

This was my third stay at the Buchanan Arms and on this occasion my room was at the rear of the hotel and was large with a comfortable king size bed. The wifi signal was a little weak in my room, but strong in the lounge so I was able to work from there. Which is no inconvenience as the lounge area is lovely and is particularly inviting when the open fires are lit. The restaurant and menu could benefit from modernisation, but the food was nice (Cullen skink and braised beef) and the service excellent. Breakfast too was very good and my soft boiled eggs were perfect. Please make an effort to cross the road and take the walk to the viewpoint. The path is only 200m or so long but the view in the morning and at sunset is quite lovely.

    « Disappointing »

We bought a lunch/spa deal and every aspect was disappointing. The lunch consisted of a choice of sandwiches and a cake. We chose paninis which were doughy and tasteless. They were served with a few tortilla chips, soggy salad and coleslaw that has been plated long before as it had a skin over it. The cakes were heavy and stale. No one asked if we enjoyed it although maybe worked it out as we left most of it. When we went to the spa the sauna was closed, staff unwelcoming and just generally unpleasant. We'll not return.

    « Weekend Away »

Partner took us away for a relaxing weekend. Staff were friendly and the hotel was well decorated. Well except for our room. We were in room 17 which was very dated. We had an old wallpaper which was ripped and cello taped at one area. To make it worse when we were checking out the rooms next to us were being cleaned. Everyone of them was modern and nicely decorated. Ours looked pale by comparison. It was £180 for the pair of us. The hotel and facilities out with the room were great. The room was poor as was the bathroom. The shower and hair dryer were relics of the 80s by the looks of it. There was also no iron which was frustrating as we would taken this as standard due to the size of the hotel. Disappointing considering there were cheaper places to stay in the area which were of the same standard room wise. The pictures were very misleading. Perhaps our room was due for an upgrade but it would have been nice to have been made aware of this.

« All ok but the breakfast !! Bad beyond belief »

A colleague and I were visiting the area 17th March. We were impressed with value , style and look of the hotel , all was fine except breakfast and can honestly say we have never experienced service like it, ever. Those young girls in the dining room have obviously had no training whatsoever and even the very basics were beyond, and basically couldn't care less - spoiled our visit and strongly recommend some staff training

« Great value break - Highly recommend »

Just back from a three night break at this great hotel. This is a very comfortable hotel with a great atmosphere and a touch of style unlike the glass towers and box square rooms in the ultra modern hotels put up now. Give me the style of the Buchanan Arms any day. Lovely staff and the food is excellent. Very comfortable bed and spacious room with good en suite. Tip to the management: Could I suggest you move the cutlery storage away from the kitchen doors next to the lounge. We had 30 minutes each night we sat in the lounge of the crash of cutlery being thrown into containers. Not quite what you want to hear after a lovely meal when you want to relax over a couple of drinks.

    « Lovely hotel »

We had bought a Itison voucher for afternoon tea with spa treatments and had a lovely time. We tried to make the booking several times but found it difficult to get booked in for both on the same day, as you have to phone each department separately, which was a pain. We went for our afternoon tea which was lovely and staff were great, Then we went for a hot stones massage but we got lost trying to find the spa as its not sign posted well and also got lost looking for toilets as these as down stairs, We didn't have time to use the spa facilities as by the time our treatments were finished it was closed to public, only open to hotel residents. You are given a day pass which is good, so you can go in and out as you please but we couldn't get an earlier booking, as it was fully booked, so we couldn't do this. I would recommend but you would have to book well in advance.

    « Another fantastic stay »

This was my friend and Is 2nd overnight stay here. We stayed on the 11th March . We booked through my hotelbreak.com the deal included cream tea dinner bed and breakfast . We has a £22.50 each allowance for dinner . From the minute we arrived we were made very welcome . All the staff from manager to housekeeping are very friendly and professional. Can't do enough for you. Our room (28) was spotless and comfortable. The beds have mattress protectors as do the pillows which is a must for me. The cream tea was delicious. The menu for dinner was varied and we had lots to choose from .Our meals were superb. Staff were very attentive. We retired to our room where we just chilled . It was so quiet so we both had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was once again great . We couldn't get an appointment for a massage but spent several hours in the pool and used the sauna steam room and jacuzzi. After a relaxing time in the spa we headed to the huge sofa's in the lounge area and had several drinks before we decided to have lunch which again was very tasty . My friend and I have had many spa days at this hotel and as I said before this was our 2nd overnight stay. We will most definitely return .

    « Lovely stay »

We had 3 nights stay here on a bed and breakfast basis. We had a lovely large room, with three windows and king bed. The breakfast was ok buffet style with extras from the menu. I ordered porridge the 1st morning but didn't bother again as it took more than 20 minutes! We didn't have an evening meal as lots of other places to eat in Drymen and nearby. Recommend the Oak tree at Balmaha! We made use of the pool and steam room which were nice and the jacuzzi was lovel. Will stay again if in area

    « Fantastic! »

Brilliant staff, wonderful facilities. Breakfast was good, but wasn't asked if we wanted tea or coffee and there was only scrambled eggs as an option. Room was clean and very tidy, bed was rather hard but had a good night's sleep. The leisure facilities were excellent!

« Relaxing weekend at good hotel in beautiful location »

Stayed February 26th and 27th 2016 (Friday and Saturday) Hotel is in the lovely village/town of Drymen surrounded by beautiful countryside and of course within a very short distance of Loch Lomond We were very lucky with the weather as the Loch was so calm and the snow was on the mountains. Bliss The hotel is very well run and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful at all times Our room was on the ground floor with a lovely view of the garden to the rear of the hotel The room had everything we needed (including bath) and bed was comfy Windows open in the room to let in the fresh air Food was good with an allowance of £22.50 on the set menu which was ample to cover a starter and main or main and dessert. There were specials on each day too Breakfast was buffet style and food was very tasty and plentiful. Thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast I would say drinks at the bar were not the cheapest we have found but still enjoyed the comfortable lounge area A bit of entertainment would have been good on maybe Saturday night but that is only a small point We paid £180.00 for the two of us DBB for the 2 nights with easy breaks and we would say we received very good value for money All in all a lovely stay at a well run hotel and we will be back for sure P.S. If you are staying we would suggest you drive to Balmaha and Rowardennan as the views are beautiful and (at least in the quiet season) very peaceful I suppose we are biased because we love Loch Lomond but we think you will be impressed Thanks to all the staff and management for a lovely stay and relaxing break Tom & Ern (With friend Bubbles darling (Karen) in tow)

    « Lunch was interesting »

we have driven past many occasions, thought this time we will try for some Sunday light bites.Sadly we found it shocking we would of got better service at a fast food restaurant, for one you get told to wait to be seated but shouted across the restaurant to find a seat,(at this time 5 out of 10 tables taken up) we got handed menus eventually.which were played out nicely. once we have chosen our food and drink we had to wait about a good 20 mins just to order drinks, seemed like they we ran off their feet even though they had 3 girls on and 5 tables with an average of 3 people at each table, and tables with dirty plates and glasses on,once we received our drinks a good 15 minute wait we were able to order, when we received our food it was not a great standard, the sandwiches had little flavour, once finished we asked about a light cake,we got informed to collect our selfs (quite happy to) asked a few questions about the board and sadly got told "we've not used this in years".On heading up we got cut off by a manger asking for information and on the way back got a look that i wouldn't be given to a paying customer no mind a member of the public. After choosing our cakes we headed back to the table to find our plates were still remaining at the table,as we sat down to enjoy we found out one of our choices (the chocolate muffin) was not what it said on the label it was a ginger and coffee flavour which was rather unpleasant.going up to pay we said our table number with not a remark a facial expression of hu,what ,eh. we explained what we had for lunch and paid but i have to say i for a highly represented hotel the service in their restaurant was shocking. The guest who have used the groupon coupon were treated very nicely and while paying customers were made to wait for longer than normal for any restaurant. On the way out there was no thank you or see you soon it was replaced stairs. After returning to the car we did check to make sure we never had horns coming out our heads for the looks we received.

« Relax, revitalise your body, mind & taste buds at Buchanan Arms Hotel& spa: »

Phoned previously to inform reception we were running late, asked if we could upgrade room as we got a Winter Warmer deal with DB&B with use of spa for a bargain price. The Room they put us in for the Winterwarmer difinately did not need a upgraded it was spacious, clean with enormous bed. (My husband is 6ft 2inch ), We slept like babies. The Spa facilities were excellent opening hours to suit evenings and early mornings, towels ,shampoo with hairdriers provided, It was wonderfull to have a early morning swim in a warm swimming pool, bubbly spa and sauna. The food delicious The Real Macoy you could tell it was homemade with expert hands a chief that loves his masterpieces a creation of mouthwatering food, A real treat for the taste buds. We would difinatley Recommend This Oasis of a Hotel to fellow travellers. Only book 1 night we stayed overnight and wished we booked for 2 nights. Will book 2 nights next time, ps the walk to the viewpoint over the Loch is worthwhile , The village is charming clothes shop 50% discount at moon. The lady knows what suits your body shape,

Nice, clean and tidy room. Restaurant food was tasty and served quickly and with a smile. Staff were very friendly and efficient. All in all a very pleasant stay here. Absolutely no complaints at all.

« Excllent value and comfort »

Stopped here on walking the West Highland Way. Room was modern and very comfortable. There is a spa/swimming pool (I did not use but talking to fellow walkers was excellent). Staff very friendly and helpful and overall facilities are good. It would be a good base to explore area. Food in restaurant was pretty average and expensive for what it was -possibly because it was low season or an off night (restaurant staff were a little chaotic). Chinese couple next table gave up after waiting 30 minutes for a dessert. Hotel is a major venue for weddings from April onwards so could get very busy/crowded at weekends. Apart from food the venue and hotel facilities are very good.

« Our home away from home »

We recently returned from yet another faultless stay at the Buchanan Arms. This place has became our "home away from home" only 50 mins away by car from Greenock but feels like another world. Barbara on reception is always very welcoming, and the food at night and for breakfast is always first class. Check on Easy breaks for cheap deals to this hotel and also classic britain (now called Myhotelbreak. Com) All in all, a great place to stay and great value for money.

    « Fantastic Overnight - Food delicious! »

My sister and I are just back from an overnight stay and there is nothing negative I can say about this hotel, the service and the food - all of which were excellent. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were cosy. We used the leisure facilities and spa. The treatments were wonderful; lovely rooms and excellent therapists. Considering the points above, the thing that stood out for me was the excellent food, it was the tastiest afternoon tea and evening meal I've had in a long time! All beautifully prepared, very fresh and tasted amazing. I would certainly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back!

Came for dinner B and B for my wife's birthday. Room was clean but could do with modernising. Lovely king size bed and flat screen TVs. I loved the gym sauna and nice warm swimming pool which l used both days. The meal at dinner was enjoyable but would not go overboard about it. Breakfast was the usual buffet affair where if you time it right the food has just been served. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and efficient and a credit to the hotel . Would definitely stay again should I decide on a day away.

    « Relaxing break away »

We travelled here to celebrate our Pearl Anniversary on a 3 nt dinner bed & breakfast deal. Check in was efficient. 1st impression was good. Lovely lounge & conservatory areas to sit in. Our room was ok but a bit dull as only had a very small ill fitting window with really no view. A tad disappointing. King sized bed as we requested which was very comfortable. The room was clean & well appointed. Small bathroom but all we needed. The leisure facilities were good. We enjoyed spending time there. On our 1st evening, as it was our anniversary, I had emailed & asked for a nice quiet table in the dinning room. Don't think anyone passed on my request. We were more or less just told to choose a table. After the problem of choosing a wine which was available. 3rd time lucky!! The meal was good. Well presented & service was good. It was very busy this evening. 15th day after Valentine's Day. I'm not sure what happened on our 2nd night but it was so different & not for the better I may add.the dinning room was much quieter this evening. Our starters came very quickly but we had to ask for bread. We then waited 55mins for our mains! We had to ask twice if we could get them. On our 3rd request we finally got a jug of water. My pasta should have come with garlic bread which I pointed out when it was served to me & the waiter said he would see to that but after eating half my pasta I requested it again. I never did get my garlic bread. To be honest we couldn't wait to get out the restaurant that night. The service was shocking & the food was definitely not up to the standard of our 1st night. We did speak to the staff about our complaints before leaving but we were never given an explanation. One pleasant young girl, Nicole, Who had not been serving us was very apologetic. Our waitress couldn't have cared less! We were given a G&T's in the bar on the house so I guess our displeasure had filtered through there. Our 3rd nights experience was good. Totally different older staff who gave the impression they knew there jobs well. Which they did. The food was back to being good again. We are just really confused as to what happened on the Tuesday night! Breakfast was on till 9.30 each morning. On all 3 mornings we were in the dinning room by 9am but the food on the buffet was very run down & dried up. I requested more beans & a very disgruntled member of staff grunted she would see to it. She did! The system they have of requesting how you wish your eggs cooked is very poor. On each morning we were well through our breakfast before they arrived. There was scrambled egg on the buffet if you like it cold & like rubber!Having said this, our last morning was a big improvement on everything. Bit like the dinner. That was 2 good ones out of 3. The breakfast was 1 good one out of 3 !!! I see a pattern evolving! We used the Cloothie snack restaurant twice for a light lunch. The food was nice but the staff were the same as breakfast & were anything but pleasant. On two occasions I witnessed the older blonde lady(!the one I had asked for more beans) being VERY rud to the younger member of staff with her hair in a platt. She was a bit rude to me when I explained I had a massage booked for 45mins time & I wondered if I would would have time to eat comfortably & I then asked if she would take our order. It wasn't busy that day and another couple who came in after us had their order taken before us. The waitress was obviously unhappy with me asking if she would take our order. I had the feeling she wanted to leave it to the young girl! We found the service much better on our 1st visit, the 15th & it was much busier. All in all we enjoyed our break here. It was not the special break we had hoped for but it was ok. The staff seen to perform better under pressure & unfortunately we did not experience the pleasent staff that other reviewers speak of. Apart from Nicole. Neither of us feel we could recommend this hotel to anyone & we will not return. There is plenty of choice in this popular area.

    « Continuing good standards. »

We got an overnight with breakfast, and chose dinner for the evening. All in all a very nice stay. We stay here 2 or 3 times per year, and the standards are certainly being maintained. I also noticed that rooms are now having bathrooms upgraded to a high standard. Hope they keep this up & we will definetly return time after time.

« Shame its only average »

Booked an overnight for our wedding anniversary. The hotel is nice looking and clean, staff were friendly, the room was also clean with a nice bathroom, plenty of pillows which good. The downsides were, the bed was like concrete neither of us had a good sleep. I am used to a firm bed having a bad back however this was ridiculously solid. We chose to eat in the restaurant wish we had'nt. The starter of antipasti was nice, I had the special of baked ham, the ham was a bit on the dry side was just edible. My husband didn't enjoy his burger either. The worst was yet to come in the form of the desserts. I have never had worse desserts, which was extremely disappointing. The brownie was far too crumbly for a brownie with very little of a gooey centre. The banoffee pie my husband had was hardly anything but cream and a shortcrust base. Very little taste of banana and seemed to be no toffee/caramel. We used the leisure facilities, the changing rooms were clean and adequately laid out. The pool was a nice size and at a nice temperature. The steam room was terrible it was plastic internally with 3 out of 5 seats cracked the sign pointing this out should be on the door not a small sign at the side. The sauna was decent. The jacuzzi was out of order and I have heard this isn't the first time this year. I wouldn't dream of paying the prices in the spa, in a hotel of this calabre. That pricing is best placed in 5 star resorts. It does have the makings of a good hotel just a little more attention required in places.

« well known brand, quaint village lovely food, »

we stopped here for a spot of lunch whilst out for a drive on the 13/2/16. The hotel/restaurant is a bout a 10-15 minute drive from the shores of Loch Lomond. You have the hotel, and through a corridor is the Coothi restaurant, which serves anything from home-made cakes to full meals. the staff were friendly, and the food was plentiful and freshly cooked. The restaurant was cosy enough, although when we were there. a large family group kept making farmyard noises so put us off. The toilets were in a small 'quiet' room and down some stairs, and I didnt see any signs for easy access toilets, so I have withdrawn a rating point for this. The other thing I would say is that if you are paying by card, they use a wireless card machine and you need to walk with the server to the reception area where the best signal is. As always, you need to keep an eye on your card so its not out of your sight, and this is applicable in any place you pay by card. when we were there there was an advert for a murder mystery dinner and stay, but unfortunately this was sold out!

Cosy room, well appointed... lovely night porter who arriving late asked me if I needed food... good breakfast if a tad comical as I termed it the poached egg fiasco... luckily I was happy with the scrambled on the buffet.

    « A BUSY WEE GEM »

Booked an overnight stay for me and the other half with cream tea and DBB. I thought that the hotel might be rather empty but not a bit of it as both the hotel and the restaurant were doing good business on a February Monday afternoon/night. Staff were welcoming and room 6 was well acceptable even though ( as some previous reviews) there was a doorway outside and squeaking floorboards above. Not a problem! The cream tea scones were enormous with the restaurant food being excellent and served well by smart, keen to assist, young staff. We never used the Spa but could see that it also was well attended. All in all a great base for seeing the Loch Lomond area and further, if required, or just a chill out. A return visit and recommendation go hand in hand.

My sister and I stayed at the Buchanan Arms for the first time for a one night stay and it won't be the last! A fab hotel in a lovely setting, plenty of brilliant views of our beautiful Scottish countryside and the service was second to none. From reception, the Coothi Coffee shop, the fantastic relaxing Spa, the bar and the very friendly and helpful housekeeping staff this lovely hotel and it's welcoming and friendly staff made our stay a fantastic one. The hotel is well kept, the room was spotless, a good size and very cosy and the spa and gym was a good size too. We had lunch and breakfast, good homemade food which was fabulous and plentiful. Well done Buchanan Arms, would definitely recommend you and will definitely be back soon.

This was our second stay here and we had the master room. The bed is HUGE! And such a beautiful room. Lovely wee bars scattered around and nice cafe! We love it that much we booked our wedding venue here. Staff always very pleasant. Can't fault it. Oh and also... dinner was amazing!! Thanks again. Heading up for a spa day the end of February, the treatments are amazing. :)

« Lovely helpful staff, a decent 3 star hotel »

This was my third visit to the Buchanan Arms hotel in the past 4 months, twice with a few friends & once with my husband. The hotel has recently taken on a full time maintenance person & I could see the difference on my last visit with halls being painted and all starting to look nice & fresh, the staff in this hotel are all local & really make your stay in the hotel so much nicer. I have to say, I've never been to the spa & pool during my stays, so can't comment on it. The rooms were nice & clean with comfortable beds, the only negative here was the carpets were a bit stained, I realise it very expensive to replace carpets, but temporarily a good shampoo with some stain remover could help improve matters. I had dinner in the restaurant twice, but wasn't impressed with the menu which was the same on both occasions (months apart). The chef really needs to look at adding some of the simpler dishes like lasagne, fajita's , chilli, steak pie etc, as burgers with lumps of barely heated goats cheese on it just doesn't work & the sauce of melted butter & garlic recommended for with the salmon is just a no no as it overpowers the salmon. I would return & recommend this hotel to friends & family.

« Cracking one night stay »

One night stay 12/2/16. Me and the Mrs stayed for one night not really expecting the world from this 3 star hotel. We got a hell of a shock. The staff...from walking in the door were exceptional, they came across as warm and friendly. They told the Mrs about the local area and what the hotel had to offer. The spa (pool, steam room, sauna, gym treatments etc..) The room (53) not over large but very nice with a large bathroom. Fittings in the bathroom, very swish. Two slight problems, a humming, none stop. A fan on a outside wall I think. Not over loud and we could live with it. The tv, on arrival no tv stations. The hotel had this fixed as quickly as they could. Food... We asked for room service at a set time...It arrived ON time. Smashing. Breakfast... A buffet type, with fresh coffee and tea. again, no problem. When booking out, yet again staff were cracking. I noted on other reviews, a lack of staff. I can say plenty of staff at all times. More importantly, the staff cared. With great staff, cracking rooms, great facilities what does a hotel need to be a four star? This hotel needs a star adding in my humble view. Well done all concerned.

Had a terrific stay... rooms were well presented and spotlessly clean. Jane & Jean gave our group excellent service at breakfast which was extensive and well cooked. Only downside were the bar prices which were very expensive. Would visit again; had a lovely stay.

    « 13 visits and counting. »

I am ashamed to say that this is my first review of this hotel, despite our 13 visits! We keep coming back because of three things: firstly, the staff are welcoming, friendly and well mannered. Barbara and the other ladies at reception always greet you with a smile and do everything possible to make your stay comfortable. Secondly, the leisure facilities are a welcome break from the sometimes inclement Scottish weather. The pool guys are lovely and they work hard to keep everything clean and tidy.(Some areas of the pool do need updating though - tiles missing and broken seats in the steamroom.) Lastly, the food. Everything we have eaten has been delicious. Beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Don't go expecting a 5* - it isn't. It doesn't pretend to be. Yes, the stairs creak and there's a few watermarks on the ceilings...but the warmth of the welcome more than makes up for any of that. Needless to say, we'll be back.

    « A great wee escape »

Have just returned from a solo 3 night stay. Having prior to that spent 3 nights in Arran I came straight from there by public transport to the Buchanan Arms. Saturday was a wet day and I felt a bit bedraggled by the time I had negotiated Balloch bus station in particular. However my mood changed the moment I entered the hotel. I was given a warm welcome at reception and a detailled-talk through. I was upstairs in room 42, smallish but cozy. Cold as it was upon entry, the electric heater soon warmed it up. Perfectly adequate. I was on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal and the food was superb. Although I had initially booked a table for dinner, the Salmon Leap was very busy so on all 3 nights I simply ordered food to my room. While a seperate room service menu exists i just asked if I could order to room off the main dinner menu. This was instantly agreed to without quibble. Whether this is standard practice or something done on a discretionary basis to solo travellers on busy nights I do not know. But it was much appreciated. On checking my bill, the £3 tray charge was also part of my £22 dinner allowance and not added on seperately which was great but to be honest unexpected. Ice buckets are provided instantly and for free if you go down and get them yourself (£3 tray charge otherwise) and no annoying 'no outside food and drink allowed' signs......if you know what I mean. As other posters have said the breakfast buffet is great but (probably as a result) it is very very busy, particularly the later you go. If you go down after 9 expect a food queue akin to school dinners (ok maybe a slight exaggeration) and there is no lull, so no point in sitting down hoping it will die down in 10 mins. it doesn't. There's no point in me suggesting a counter server presumably because it is literally a 'help yourself' breakfast and that is the appeal, and ye Gods folk take full advantage, especially several members of that party in on Saturday night!!!!! Ye Gods guys, had some of you fasted for a week? The shower was a good power one, although I am surprised there was no bath mat. The bed was extremely comfy although sleep much after 7am is impossible due to creaky floorboards and voices in corridors. As other posters have correctly said, the wifi isn't great, especially at peak times, although with this being the February holiday chances are this was due to my observation of large numbers of kiddies never off their devices. However......since my own mobile wifi was unuseable due to bad signal this is something that should be addressed as far as possible for a large scale place like this. But I am awarding it 5 stars because I loved the place and any minor quibbles are just that, and don't justify me marking down in any way from what has been 3 great days. It's a rustic Scottish hotel, not The Ritz.

« Above and beyond our expectations »

We recently stayed here as an overnight to celebrate a family members birthday. There were 10 of us in total and we were looking to do a whole afternoon and overnight all in the one place. This hotel still had entertainment nights on and so seemed an ideal choice. We opted to arrive around 2 pm and had booked an afternoon tea. This was exceptional! ..not only had the hotel ( in particular Colin and Kitty )..went out their way to make this as special as possible but the food for the afternoon tea was fantastic!..The sandwiches, scones and cakes all delicious! And not just your bog standard afternoon tea. This was vintage style with unusual China cups and saucers. Vintage tea pots etc. Lovely!. Colin also kindly arranged for us to sit in a separate area and had a beautiful table set up for us to put our cake and balloon on. Really couldn't of asked much more and this was just the start. Birthday girl was made to feel even more special with a lovely complimentary bottle of wine brought to her personally by the manager. Some of those in my party attended the pool and spa facilities and said they were lovely! Evening entertainment started at 7-7:30..An excellent meal. Quick and efficient bar service with a young man serving who was only too happy to help carry drinks to the table for us. Reasonably priced drinks . Fantastic comedy night entertainment. Involving the whole audience. Brilliant! .great dj and dancing ! Rooms were spotless. We had a triple room and had plenty of space. Tea making facilities and very comfortable beds. Breakfast in the morning was outstanding. A very wide variety of both continental and cooked breakfast options ..all buffet. I did spot a menu for other breakfast items that could be ordered but i was quite happy with what was on offer at the buffet. Staff brought pots of tea / coffee as and when we required it. All in all we encountered alot of different staff members at this hotel and every single one of them delivered a friendly and professional service at all times. In particular the manager Colin went above and beyond to accommodate us and make our stay memorable. He very clearly has a passion for his work and is a credit to the Best Western Chain! . Can't recommend this hotel enough. Beautiful settings. Excellent service. Fantastic food and clean comfortable rooms and facilities. Don't hesitate to book. We will be back .

Poor initial impression. Worn carpet on vety creaky staircase. Telephone cables unprofessionally straddled wooden panelling and around doors in corriders. Room was small but comfortable. Bathroom huge. Single glazed. Unbelievable condensation on window in the morning!! Noisy fan which went on for a long time after bathroom light off. No hand rails at bath and shower was over the bath. I asked when checking out if any rooms had walk in shower or handrails over bath and was advised that neither were available. Impossible for those with mobility issues. Having said all that, the bed was very comfortale and I had a much better sleep than normal in a hotel. The room was comfortable and food excellent. All in all a very good deal

« Great staff & food - pity about the cold rooms! »

Initial room above main entrance was so cold we had to be moved. The next room was excellent and a pity we weren't given that one first. All the seating areas were also cold and didn't make for nice places to relax. The staff were all excellent and made the hotel better just by their great service. The food in the restaurant and café where you eat breakfast was tasty, well presented and also added to the experience in a positive way. The bed was a little hard for us but perhaps just not our type of bed. If the heating was improved I would return but unfortunately not until then.

    « Poor servive »

Was here for spa and afternoon tea for my 13 year olds birthday with her friends. The pool area great as was the gentleman who looked after us in pool area. When we went up to have afternoon tea in the restaurant, they knew nothing of our booking, even though I put in special requirements days before. I have to say shame on the management as we were told by a member of staff that the hotel had 90 people booked in the restaurant that day as it was the last day of the iris on voucher and only 3 members of staff on. They tried to do a good job with what they had but struggled. The management knows how many was booked and let the hotel down but not having enough staff on. I felt I wanted to help them clear tables for them. There was a lot of people not happy. They had to rope in the reception staff as there were no clean tables. Not a first good experience. I would like feedback from someone. My daughter felt let down as I did too

« Great staff and facilities »

First visit to the Buchanan Arms and would highly recommend it. Staff were very welcoming and attentive without being overly so. The room was a bit small for two adults and a child, but this was not a problem. The leisure club was excellent, with warm water in the pool and a clean locker/shower area.

« Poor service, overbooked, rubbish deal »

I visited here last spring for a spa and afternoon tea package which I received as a birthday present in March. Since receiving the voucher I called the spa consistently for weeks, never able to get through to anyone. When I eventually got someone via the hotel reception, I still could not get through to the spa. When I got hold of the spa I was told their treatments were all fully booked until after the voucher would expire (1st June). Was told I couldn't use facilities either as the place was full. Went for the afternoon tea which was booked - receptionist then told me we could have used the facilities which was upsetting as we had brought nothing with us. The afternoon tea itself was awful with tar - like cold coffee and stale cakes. We also had to wait longer than many other tables on our food, by which time our fizz was finished and coffee like an iced drink. We were ignored by various members of waiting staff with only one woman who was rushed (appeared to be the only capable person) eventually catering to us. It was the worst customer service experience I have ever had and a terrible waste of a birthday present. I definitely do not recommend vouchers for here. Just awful.

    « Spa and lunch »

We visited the hotel through a Groupon deal Spa and lunch and we were not disappointed. The pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were all very enjoyable. We spent a good couple of hours enjoying the facilities. We then had a very nice lunch This was a great value deal and we will certainly return here again Very welcoming and helpful staff.

After a long and frenzied journey the Buchanan Arms was my oasis of calm in a very windy and rainy night... Excellent room, lovely breakfast and a trip to the spa... all in all a very nice experience was had!

    « Very nice »

Went here for an overnight stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious and massive bathroom. Only complaint about room was Wi-fi was quite poor though with it complimentary shouldn't complain. Swimming pool was excellent and with a steam room and sauna too it was very relaxing but sadly the jacuzzi was awaiting repair. Did not dine in hotel at night but breakfast was lovely and staff in restaurant in morning very friendly. Overall I gave 4/5 but if WiFi was better and jacuzzi working it would receive 5 it was great value and highly recommended will definitely return.

Lovely hotel, staff very friendly and welcoming, stayed at room 29 which was very cosy only thing was tv didn't work and was very hard to get a wifi connection in the room, comfy bed and lovely bathroom, breakfast next day was great buffet style and staff were again very friendly, pool area could do with an update. Would stay again.

    « Buchanan arms Drymen »

Lovely hotel nice spa nice room massive bed, comfy Good location but the breakfast was one of the worst I've ever had, stale buns Sausages that i could not eat, If these sausages were local product there must be a sausage factory near by, saying that the price i paid was cheap. The breakfast was so bad i dared not eat there at night time. Would stay at the hotel again on a room only basis

    « relaxing day out »

Came here with a groupon deal for a spa day and lunch, pool area is quite nice and warm as is the steam room and jacuzzi but the pool was a little cold- it was snowing heavily outside the day we visited (it was beautiful to look at from inside the hotel) although the changing area is a bit run down, lunch consisted of main course and cake, we opted for fish and chips and it was really tasty, the lady who served us was a gem very friendly but not intrusive, overall I'd recommend this place for a visit. Beautiful part of the country with stunning scenery

    « Pleasant Stay »

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for one night over the Christmas holidays. This was the second time that we had stayed at this hotel. On both occasions we found the staff very friendly and helpful. On both occasions we stayed in superior rooms where we found the standard of the rooms good for a 3* hotel. On both occasions the restaurant was rather busy for breakfast and they appeared to have difficulty keeping the hot food buffet well maintained...but the food that we had was good and hot. The leisure facilities and the pool area were a little 'tired' but none the less they were clean and the staff were friendly. Overall, we have had two pleasant stays at this hotel.

Have stayed here before visiting family when travelling North. Lovely situation on road to Loch Lomond and beautiful scenery. Did bed and breakfast and eat on Christmas Eve for dinner only. Good Scottish hospitality and friendliness.

« Great Night of Comedy »

I've not been at Buchanan Arms for many years and a comedy night to beat the January blues was the perfect excuse to visit this beautiful country hotel. There have been many changes since I was last year and they all compliment the building greatly. Check in was smooth and friendly with clear directions to my room. A welcome letter was waiting for me from Colin the Hotel manager with all the information for the comedy night, which was great considering I was running late so couldn't hang about reception asking questions. The night itself was superb, the food service was efficient and the meal was well presented and very tasty. I was surprised for the money paid that a choice menu was offered, I've been to hotel nights where soup, chicken and cheesecake is the only option. Carrie the comedian was excellent, very funny and managed to engage everyone in attendance. There wasn't a large crowed at it but that didn't matter it brought everyone closer together. The leisure club is good, a bit changed from when I was last there although the broken tiles next to the Jacuzzi let it down a bit. Breakfast was very good and Jane made us feel very welcome even though the breakfast room was full of other hungover people. There is a good selection of hot and cold breakfast goods all excellently presented. I'm looking forward to go back, next time I will be booking some soa treatments.

    « 5* »

From an excellent service through the hotel to comfortable bed and a bath! Stayed for two nights and wasn't disappointed with anything. Close to a spar and balmaha. Gym has basic equipment and the jacuzzi wasn't working but there's still a good sized pool a sauna and a steam room. Would recommend and will be back. Thanks to all the staff, great job throughout .

    « New Year Relaxation »

Visited on the 3rd of January for some relaxation before starting back work . The staff at reception were friendly and helpful and when we asked to change rooms due to the orginal room only having a double bed there were no issues and we were moved to an excellent room with a super kingsize bed. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was exceptional but the service was terrible. We were given a table in a corner even though it was not too busy it took an excessive amount of time to be served. We ordered drinks and it took approx 15 minutes for them to arrive and the bottled water was missing. We ordered another round of drinks but after another 15 minutes they had not arrived and they had to be ordered again. Tables around us seemed to be served while we sat with empty plates on the table and no drinks. Breakfast was advertised as finishing at 10am on a bank holiday so we arrived at 9:30am. We waited to be seated and I was promptly pushed out of the way by the lady looking after the dining room. We ordered coffee and again this took 15 minutes to arrive and when we went to the buffet to get food there was very little left and lots of people coming into get food. I asked if there was fresh food coming and was told there was so I waited but 10 minutes later I was told breakfast finished at 9:30 and there would be no fresh food. The hotel is very nice and the quality of food at dinner was exceptional but the experience was ruined by some outstandingly terrible service.

    « Family Christmas Dinner »

We had our Christmas dinner here. The food was excellent and service was second to none. We were made to feel very welcome. The place was busy but you didn't have to wait too long considering how busy it was at times. The meal was quite expensive, especially the child's meal as my son is a fussy eater and didn't really eat his dinner but the price is expected on Christmas Day, everywhere I looked was similar price. Lovely 4 course meal with tea and mince pies at the end in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend this place.

Very friendly & helpful staff. Located in a pretty town, hotel had a very quaint and comfortable vibe. Pool and Spa was also good. Rooms were great with an excellent bed, clean bathroom and powerful shower head for a refreshing shower. Buffett breakfast was also good value for money.

« Christmas Party quality and value! »

This is the third time I have joined a Christmas party night at Buchanan Arms. The value for money is incredible - £60 for an overnight B/B with a party thrown in. Food very good, accommodation very good, staff very good. Put it together and it adds up to an excellent venue for a team overnight! Well done indeed - we'll be back for a 4th year in 2016!

    « party night fun »

went here for a party night at the weekend ..the service and food were really good and after we had a great party night ..our room was very good with fresh decor but the highlight of the night was the late bar .the two guys who were on were so funny attentive and professional (Bruce & Eric) they kept us going with laughs all the way the best part was a tricky situation with a drunk female guest which was handled with sensitivity by Bruce how he kept a straight face i do not know .. this comedy double act made us feel special and it was fantastic to know that they both patrolled the hotel to ensure safety and to monitor noise from other guests ..... we will return and i hope these lads are still on because they are are credit to you ... thank you best western for a great night out

« Very nice hotel and service »

We stayed for three nights and enjoyed our stay.On the plus side- decor was clean and fresh for an old building, as were the bedrooms. On the whole staff were very friendly (with some exceptions below). Food was very good in evenings and breakfast, and good value for money. Easy and plenty parking. Leisure facilities were good and staff friendly. On the minus side - on arrival on Wed night two receptionists ignored our presence for about 40 seconds, and the one who eventually checked us in, although efficient, was robotic and didn't make eye contact- bad first impression .Similarly a barmaid late at night persisted in talking over her shoulder when serving me. Restuarant staff, particularly at breakfast seemed over numerous, which appeared to result in haphazard attention to diners. Also pervasive smell off fire smoke around reception, lounge and rooms above. All in all though, we would go back

    « Food Extremely dissappointing »

Went to the Buchanan Arms for the Xmas party night, the overall night was good, and the accommodation fine, however they really need to up their game with the food served at the party nights. myself and a large group of friends have been to the party nights here several times over the last 7 years. Up until 2 years ago I would have rated the experience Excellent, with the food being a 10 out of 10, however it changed ownership 2 years ago, and since then the food being served is abysmal, this years offering of Beef with Pepper sauce was disgusting, the beef was like a preformed disk of meat which was cooked to the point of being rock hard, so I imagine the objective of the sauce was to disguise this fact, there was very little veg to accompany it, and what veg there was, was inedible too, I couldn't even cut the green beans with my knife...the starter of Chicken Roulade wasn't much better, minute potions of a dry tasteless processed dish, our friends had the Turkey, which didn't fare any better. This is a complete repeat of last years offerings, but we excused that due to the change in ownership, and the kitchen still being setup, but this far down the line, its unacceptable...so come on Best Western, get this sorted out, or you could find yourself out of business.

« Great hotel for a getaway break »

We stayed for a one-night dinner, bed & breakfast break and really enjoyed our stay. The receptionist was welcoming and efficient, and kindly offered to give us a larger room than the one we had been allocated - much appreciated. On passing through the lounge on the way to our room I really enjoyed the smell of wood smoke from the open fire, and there were plenty of sofas and chairs to curl up in. Our bedroom was a good size with a large, comfy bed, a large-screen TV, hospitality tray and a couple of armchairs and table. The decor was modern, quiet and relaxing and the en-suite was beautifully done and spotlessly clean. Our evening meal in the Salmon Leap restaurant was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. Our table was by the window (by our choice) but after a while I got rather cold as there was quite a draught from the window. It didn't stop us enjoying our meal though. In the morning we had a really good buffet breakfast - a wide choice of hot or cold food with plenty of fresh fruit available too. Again the staff were friendly and efficient and although we were towards the end of breakfast service we were never made to feel rushed at all. Pity we didn't have time to use the leisure facilities this time. I think we'll have to go back for a longer stay at some point. The weather was very rainy during our stay but we walked up to the viewpoint opposite the front door of the hotel - well worth a look even on a wet and windy day as the view over Loch Lomond is beautiful! It's a good base for exploring the area - Balmaha and Rowardennan are a short drive away and the scenery is stunning.

    « Brilliant Stay »

My partner John and I recently spent a lovely long weekend here and enjoyed every moment. the beautiful big lounge area was very cosy and comfortable, we enjoyed a couple of quiet evenings there after a few drinks in the bar, which was small and intimate. extremely impressed with the style of the bar - ye old Scottish style with the buchanan tartan and little pieces of info about the history of the buchanan clan in places. Our stay was made especially good with the assistance of the staff, one member in particular Scott Anderson, he was extremely helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough to make us happy we thank him greatly. the buffet breakfast is always a winner! A couple of down sides though, during the day the bar is unmanned quite a lot and its difficult to get served, we ended up going elsewhere after ringing the bell a few times and waiting for a very long time. Also the food wasn't too impressive but this may be down to me being very fussy, John on the other hand loved his meal.

    « Wedding »

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding. I have to say it would have been helpful if we were asked if we had any mobility issues as we were allocated a room at the furthest part of the hotel in the lowest floor. We had to go along corridors and down stairs, more corridors to eventually got to our room. The room was very cold and it was evident hotel were aware as an electric heater had been put in the room, however, this would have struggled to heat a cupboard. Heater not on in bathroom and we had to turn this on for a luke warm radiator. We were very disappointed with the room in general as was a little dated and basic for the cost we had paid. The hotel could have done with more staff attending bars during wedding as it was evident the staff working were stretched, albeit, every staff member we spoke to was very helpful and polite. The restaurant is a bit overpriced for what you get. I had a chicken dish on the Friday and would have appreciated some vegetables on the plate to bulk up the portion. I think this hotel basis itself on the leisure facilities, however this is not for everyone and maybe structuring its pricing to exclude this if you do not want to use them would be an option for guests who don't want this. Overal hotel should explain the layout of rooms to allow guests to advise if rooms in what we called the dungeon!! are suitable, exclude off price of stay leisure facilities if not required and TURN UP THE HEATING!!!

    « An OK place »

We stayed one night here during our Scotland trip. The Hotel is a classical Scottish landscape lodge. To be honest I don't really know what the "spa" part about the hotel should be. There is a pool area with a nice pool and a hottub as well as a steam bath. Unfortunately everything is quite old and out of shape, which makes a visit to the "spa" not so enjoyable. It's ok for one night but if you're looking for a wellness weekend I can not recommend this place. We had the same problem with the rooms. It was ok but since everything looked worn-down we did not feel very comfortable here. The breakfast was ok but everything else than outstanding.

    « Lovely Girly Afternoon »

A wee treat for myself and a friend from Groupon - access to the spa, £10 off a treatment and lunch. The hotel is lovely - a complete warren, but that's part of the charm! All the staff we dealt with were incredibly pleasant, and helpful. We didn't get any treatments, but had a lovely time in the spa, lots of hottubbing and saunaing - not much exercise!! Lunch was main course and a cake - drinks were extra. I had the tomato, brie and spring onion tart with salad and new potatoes, and it was very tasty. The cakes were also VERY good!! Delightful experience, and now we want to go back, with the menfolks.

    « A Pleasant Hotel »

This is a nice enough hotel, located in a small village, which doesn't have a lot in it. The public areas were nice and traditional, with an open fire in the lounge, although, unfortunately a lot of smoke ended up inside the lounge! Perhaps the chimney needs cleaned. I believe there are upgraded rooms, however, ours, although spacious, was a bit dated. There is wifi, but it didn't get as far as our room, however, may have been a technical issue, as they seem to have recently got a new system. The food, both breakfast and dinner was very nice. The wine starts at around £20 a bottle, which seems a bit pricey for here! Very friendly and helpful staff.

    « Lovely short stay »

We have visited this hotel on a number of occasions although it is over 3 years since our last visit. Although obviously the hotel in general has not changed a great deal the new décor and updated rooms are a big plus and looking lovely. Our room was spacious, newly decorated, lovely and clean. We stayed on a DB&B deal and really enjoyed all meals. Breakfast is now served in a different room and is much more cosy than when previously served in the main restaurant. Good choice at the buffet and all freshly prepared. Although not a great fan of having an allowance at dinner to use on an a la carte menu have to say on this occasion it worked well and gave a wide choice of meals. Quality was really good. Leisure facilities are very enjoyable and comfortable. Possibly the main feature was the friendliness of all the staff. they simply could not do enough for you and were more than happy to spend time chatting etc. We will certainly be back.

    « Disappointed ?? »

Stayed here previously 6 times over the years and always loved it!! However we went today for a spa day and was really surprised ! Our lunch took 55 minutes to come and it wasent that busy ( with two small children a nightmare!) anyway food was good but service not the best at all. Then at the spa we had to pay for towels - never heard of this before and you don't get your money back. They were very small like tea towels but the guy didn't seem to care. The showers were freezing cold. It wasent good.

    « Fab! »

Stayed here last Saturday night. Our room was enormous and beautifully furnished and the bed was massive! Wide enough for 3 - with the number of pillows to match :-) Extremely comfy. We ate in the restaurant and the food was exceptional. I had the pork loin and my other half had the lamb. Both highly recommended. Drymen is a small, quiet town but a trip to the oldest registered pub in Scotland, The Clachan Arms, is worth a five minute walk. Turn left out of the hotel, walk five minutes and you'll see it in front of you on the other side of the road. Although there was a wedding party going on the night we were staying we weren't disturbed at all. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. And before you leave take five minutes to cross the road and follow the path up to the signposted viewpoint. It's well worth it! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

« Comfortable old hotel sympathetically modernised. »

Our family room (48) was huge with a large modern bathroom. Free wifi, tea making facilities and toiletries were provided. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast and found the staff to be cheery and efficient, particularly Gina and her breakfast team who couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast buffet offered a great selection of fresh fruits, cheeses and cold meats as well as all the usual cereals, porridge, juices and fry up. Reception staff had everything ready for us arriving and similarly, the check out was smooth and swift. The highlight for us was the large indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. This leisure area, which also included a well equipped gym and beauty treatment rooms was clean and well maintained as was the rest of the hotel. This is a well positioned hotel for exploring The Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park.

    « Lovely hotel »

Checked in for a 4 night stay last weekend. Lovely room, great facilities, good food and very friendly and helpful staff....though there were one or two exceptions! Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant was complimented by a good team who were efficient and helpful....particularly the young lads who were very polite and couldn't do enough for you. The spa was a welcome bonus with a nice range of facilities. There were great areas for relaxation, an adequate bar and an efficient and friendly reception. Areas of the hotel were a little 'tired' but work 'ongoing' was evident. All in all a lovely hotel which we would happily use again if we were in the area. Thankyou to all the staff for making us welcome.

    « Fabulous stay »

The Buchanan Arms is a lovely hotel very close to Loch Lomond. The staff are extremely welcoming and couldn't have helped us more. We had a standard room which was more than large enough and had a TV, tea/coffee making facilities, lots of local information and good storage. There is a plentiful breakfast which was all very good quality food and Salmon Leap restaurant also offers a good selection in the evening. The pool and spa facilities are excellent, the pool is not huge but big enough for a few lengths. There are swimming lessons in the late afternoon/early evening some weeknights so the pool can get very busy but otherwise lovely!

    « Nothing Special »

Nothing to write home about. Average. Gentleman night porter very accommodating. Heating not working in room, however once reported night porter came with 2 blow heaters very promptly. Breakfast area very squashed. Asked for a fried egg, did by appear till 20minutes later once I'd finished breakfast. No butter or milk in tables, had to ask for milk several times to which coffee was cold.

    « Nice Modern hotel »

Only stayed here for 1 night but it was really nice. The bedroom was big with a massive bed and TV. It was nice clean and modern as was the bathroom. Looked as if it had been refurbed fairly recently. Had free wifi in room and had no problem with connection. They have a good spa with swimming pool, sauna ect, also a gym that lookd like it had some decent equipment. Only stayed B&B so didn't have dinner at the hotel( see my review of the Drymen inn for dinner) but the breakfast was good, plenty of choice. Would easily reccomend this place to stay.

    « Little gem of a hotel ... »

Just returned from a work weekend conference at the hotel & was my first time staying there , I can honestly say this hotel is a little gem ... The staff were some of the most nicest , helpful & professional I have came across, we were a very large group & practically took over the hotel , nothing was any bother or inconvenience for the management & staff ... The facilities were brilliant ,the rooms were spacious & very well cleaned & kept ... We were in room 9 & had everything we needed for our stay , the food was outstanding, plentiful & very well presented ..... We had a themed disco night & even the staff joined in & dressed up which I thought was a nice touch , I will certainly be returning the the Buchanan arms in the near future & would recommend to anyone to come for a visit .

I stayed over at this hotel for a night with a friend. We chose this hotel as it was in a nice quiet area and our choice could not have been better. The staff were faultless and could not be any more welcoming and friendly.

    « Outstanding bargain »

Best Western Buchanan Arms in Dryman is a great bargain. Just outside of Glasgow in a small Scottish village. The hotel is pristine and well appointed. It is a bit of a maze, but that is due to part of the building being a repurposed farm manor. You can get some history with some luxury at the same time. There is a spa on the location. The staff was helpful and pleasant. If you are in the area, this should be your first choice.

« Fantastic service and facilities »

We really enjoyed our stay as a group of 4 ladies from my family; staying in 2 rooms. We stayed on a Sunday night onto Monday for a bit of pampering! We really enjoyed the evening meal in the restaurant; though sometimes the service was a bit odd/delayed/rushed. There were enough staff but they seemed to be rushing around aimlessly and then towards the end of the meal we had too much attention!! Ahaha. The pool and sauna/steam room facilities were great and nice showers on entry/exit. Everything clean and well maintained. We went twice during the visit and had some spa treatments after breakfast. The food at breakfast was again lovely. It was a buffet style continental and everything was enjoyed. Good service, attentive staff. The spa was absolutely the highlight! What a beautiful massage (upper body and head) and facial. I would travel the hour just for treatments and to stop for a coffee. What a treat! I will be back :) Fantastic offer booked online for the whole stay and treatments.

    « Love this hotel »

My partner and I booked just to get away for a mini break. We checked in but really didn't like our room and Eileen the receptionist very kindly offered us another room which we loved. It certainly made all the difference to make our stay much more enjoyable. Our evening meal was to a good enough standard although the steak was not. All the staff were very pleasant and breakfast was fab.We booked a massage at haven spa which was divine and went for a swim, sauna and Jacuzzi and found the facilities to be first class. All in all a great stay and good value for money.we cant wait to go back.

    « LOOKING TIRED -OUTDATED »

This hotel has lots of good points but needs some attention as well. Corridors are confusing and rooms are exposed to noisy fans ( room 1 avoid) - the public lounge area is in need of a refurbishment and with modern and attractive seating it would be great with the outlook it has. Leisure centre was good however steam room wasn't working ( no reason given) and staff generally were attentive to requests. Found drinks in the bar too expensive for my pocket - went elsewhere. No effort to clear dirty glasses - still outside the following morning on tables - not welcoming!! Breakfast was an average experience - certainly nowhere near the best I had over the 7 days of walking the WHW

« Great value and wonderful service »

This was our third visit to this hotel, taking advantage of a Sunday B&B deal it offers. This time, I managed to get booked in to the spa at the hotel and I got to experience a really lovely facial. I'd advise you to book early though if you want to take advantage as it's very popular. The leisure facilities in general are great - a well-equipped gym, large pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. This time, we were given a pretty large room with a big bed which was terrific. It looked as if the bathroom had been done up recently too. The staff at this hotel are very friendly and you are made to feel very welcome. We really enjoyed our dinner and the portions were very generous (which isn't always the case when you go for a set deal). Drymen is a lovely village and you should take advantage of your stay by visiting the nearby pubs too.

    « Friendly Staff »

Staff very friendly especially young chaps in restaurant. Food average. Rooms shabby and hotel very noisy. Need drinking water facilities in leisure suite. Have them in gym but not near sauna or steam room. Corridors like a rabbit warren, very confusing. Won't be returning.

    « Worst break ever! »

Visited this hotel for two nights for a wedding. This was truly the worst break ever, the rooms are tired and a decent nights sleep is out of the question due to the fact you can hear every single sound from other rooms. Avoid this hotel if you can .

    « Good buffet breakfast »

We stayed here while attending a wedding, and found it a pleasant experience. The hotel itself is well appointed, with spacious public areas and a well stocked bar. We had a decent sized room with a comfortable bed and a nice en suite bath and shower. The wedding food was pretty average, although probably not a reflection on the usual restaurant fare. The buffet breakfast was first class. The only real minus was the overfamiliar and sloppy waiters during the wedding meal; definitely not silver service! However, we wouldn't allow that to stop us from going back.

    « KATHLEEN MCAULEY »

Sitting having lunch with 5 friends in this lovely homely atmospheric atmosphere. Met such a lovely waiter local lad David Mackie who has certainly made our lunch a memorable one. Nothing has been a problem to him even though the 6 of us had our own idea of what we wanted he had an answer for us all. We would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for lunch afternoon tea or dinner...in fact the next time we come this way we will be staying at the Buchanan Arms hotel. ...look out for David who will look after you and your party thanks for a lively fay spent there ??
