« Great hotel with charm »

We stayed here for one night on a trip to Dover castle and were really happy with the hotel, staff were really nice and worked hard. The hotel is very nicely decorated with old touches that make it different, our room had a floor that dropped slightly which is really strange but adds to the hotels charm. Food was really good and the breakfast is massive with all you can eat, I would definitely stay here again as a really good all round place to stay on the front you get to see all in the harbour yet a two minute walk in to town with a good choice of pubs and places to eat.

« Good Food, Spacious Accommodation and Friendly/Helpful Staff »

The food was delicious. The evening meal was good, bar prices a bit steep though. Good choice of food at Breakfast, tasty and plentiful. The rooms were quirky and spacious - very comfortable beds. The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. Free parking opposite hotel. Would definitely stay again.

November short leisure break . I used this hotel as a base whilst visiting family . Overall a clean hotel with a good breakfast . Sauna and gym and some treatments are also available at this hotel . 7/10

If I can give half star or zero star this is what they are deserve !! Horrible place. Over rated ! Not 4star hotel at all. I will never come back ! The room did not look as the pictures . The stag in the restaurant very lost and unfriendly. Cheap food ...

    « Good hotel »

Great location and good room. Free wifi. Good hot buffet breakfast. Water pressure ( at least on the 4th floor) was very low but certainly had hot water. Good hotel with good service. Great views on water side

    « Poor Housekeeping »

We have just spent 2 nights in this hotel. in some aspects it was excellent. Supurb food in the restaurant for dinner. Plus excellent staff. BREAKFAST . Breakfast left a lot to be desired. cold food on buffet, cold scrambled eggs, under cooked bacon again cold, half cooked sausages. When I complained a second breakfast was bought to me. I asked for vinegar. The bottle was filthy, with a tide mark at the vinegar level. the bottle had not been washed out in months. The vinegar was cloudy. The waiter laughed and thought it funny( I did not) My husband asked for more coffee , it did not arrive. On leaving the restaurant the waiter again thought it funny that he had not bought the coffee, BEDROOM. Stayed 2 nights. the room was fine & beds very comfortable. The bed had not been remade. the quilt just thrown on top. pillows as left from night before & sheets crumpled again from night before. The carpet had not been vacuumed & bits all over the floor. BATHROOM Waterproof floor with curved edge wall to floor, All along the edge was thick dust. Mildew on the corner of the bath to wall tiles. This hotel could be perfect with more attention to detail. The Staff except the 1 breakfast waiter, could not do enough & the food at dinner was Excellent. Hotel very close to the port & overlooked the harbour.

Arrived Late, had to get directions from Night porter, great parking, quirky old fashioned hotel, room a bit cramp, but great bathroom, liked the fruit on reception, staff very friendly, didn't stay for breakfast, but menu looked decent

« channel swimming awards dinner »

Very old hotel on the sea front , although the rom was good and well equipped , unfortunately the heating was not adequate , when we arrived the heating was switched of and with single glazing this was very noticeable , the room only warmed up by the morning .The tv, was unplugged . It seems the attention to detail in he housekeeping department was not evident . Reception was very busy but helpful. One lift which was very slow ,quicker by stairs . Well decorated property , The breakfast was very good and plenty buffet type with Ala carte as well . Bar was closed by 11.15pm when we arrived back from our function which was a shame as we fancied a nice coffee before bed . Overall a nice clean well run old property , which I would stay again , great for the ferry , plenty of free parking .

Ideal situation to the beach as swimmers this was great .

« Book Direct for best deals »

Visited Best Western for a 2 day break. We have stayed there several times over the years. Direct booking advisable for best deals. Breakfast was £11 each; As we didn't book breakfast as part of the deal at the outset, we should have. Reception gave an upgrade to a room overlooking the harbour which was most welcome. The room can be noisy with traffic on the seafront but the view is worth it. Free car parking is arranged through the hotel and is a short walk across the road in the retail store. Very good breakfast. Helpful staff.

    « Terrible Experience »

When booking I asked for 2 rooms near to each other as a family room was not available and for a cot. On arrival rooms allocated were on separate floors! Reception member of staff was reluctant at first to move closer until another member of staff prompted them to do so. On entering the first room that had been allocated to my wife, child and baby we found the room was very hot and no cot had been put in it. I returned to reception to ask about the cot to be met with a can't be bothered attitude from reception staff. When entering the room allocated to myself and my other child the room was very cold with two broken windows and no room for a cot if we wanted to swap rooms because of the temperature, uneven floor and later the noise. We told reception on our way out for a meal and were told there were no other rooms available as they were fully booked. On our return a function had started which was blocking all routes into the reception and lobby areas to access the lift/ stairs to the rooms, which we had not been informed at checkin about. The function went on until late keeping my wife, child and baby awake, resulting in my wife not being able to get our baby back to sleep and a restless, sleepless night! On check out I did comment on the allocation of rooms to people with young children and that they should have been allocated to a room at the other end of the hotel as you couldn't hear the function from there, they didn't seem to be surprised but did ask if we had been informed of the function at checkin which again we were not. Overall this has been the worst stay at a Best Western Hotel!

« Best Western in Dover »

This hotel is right on the waterfront and is a very old and beautiful building. It is too far to walk from the train station but is a relatively short taxi ride away. The interior look recently remodeled and is very pretty. The staff are very kind here as well! Our room was quite small but it was nice all the same. I wish that we had requested a room with a view of the ocean, as we were on the other side of the building facing the parking lot. I think there was scaffolding on the ocean-facing side of the building at the time anyways as it was sort of off-season so I think they were doing some repair or upkeep on the building. Breakfast was included with our room fee and it was quite good. We also had dinner in the restaurant at the hotel. It was a bit pricey but still a good experience as the view by the window looked onto the water and was quite nice. It was a very relaxing stay here. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

    « Great location »

Located right on promenade. Had one nights stay in a single room. Couldn't sleep much as the room was so warm. Window only opened a bit and radiators were off. Fans are supplied in rooms which I guess says it's a regular problem. Couldn't put fan on though as too noisy. Drinks at the bar are fairly expensive, £5.39 for a pint of Peroni!!! Evening meal was very nice but not big portions. Breakfast was not so good, cheap bacon and sausages, deep fried black pudding and lots of hot plate dishes were empty. Stay for the location but drink and eat somewhere else, if you can find a decent place in Dover??

    4
« Wanted a room with sea view and open balcony and liked every bit of it »

The hotel in general is a converted one so the passages are thin, but the rooms are nice and wide. We booked a sea view hotel room here with private balcony. It was nice and clean and had a great time for those 2 night, very romantic.

    3
    « Short stay »

Reception and departure slow. I consider the single rooms are on the small side compared to others. The Shower and toilet are so small it needs to close the door, to move about and there is a shortage of shelf ,space to place toilet items Bar prices are on the high side Breakfast and the service of it is good and the staff poite and helpful

    4
    « Nice hotel »

Hotel is nice , great location , room was on the slant but the hotel is 180 yrs old and survived being bombed in two world wars !! Staff friendly . Only thing that lets it down is Dover itself , really sad , loads of empty shops and why don't they ban public drinking . Loads of homeless congregated in the town centre , just sets a sad tone and doesn't inspire you to walk around after dark .I went for a costa coffee at 7.30 am and they had started drinking then . Anyway that's Dover not the hotel . Would recommend if you need one in Dover

    « What a great hotel »

Booked on line and stayed one night prior to travelling to France, have to say straight off what a fabulous hotel!! Fantastic welcoming staff, great room which was nice and clean, we had a double which felt narrow as we sleep on a king at home but other than that everything was excellent. We are in the bar and the menu was varied enough to satisfy most travellers although their was a restaurant if you needed even more choice. We chose Burger, Indian and scampi and all reported they were delicious, especially the Indian which was enormous and various dishes were a nice change. All in all a fabulous hotel where when travelling to France I would definitely stay again, a credit to the Best Western chain!

    5
    « Lovely views »

Fab place to eat. Often visit for a bar snack, Sunday carvery and Indian night. Very good value for money. Great efficient service and a great variety of bar food at very reasonable prices. Lovely friendly staff and of course lovely views out to sea.

    « Lovely place »

Stayed for one night. Hotel was very welcoming. Our room was nicely decorated and very clean. Disappointed that we couldn't use our balcony due to structural problems but didn't ruin the view. Bar was busy due to wedding but that happens everywhere. Staff very nice and friendly. Breakfast varied and filling. Overall, very happy with the hotel.

    1
« Ripped off by this appalling place to stay »

Front and back doors left open produced a cold draught through the hotel bar. Private events on both nights we stayed for dinner meant we couldn't get into the bar or find anywhere to sit. Why didn't they use their function rooms for this. Very expensive for a very average stay - still don't understand why booking for three nights means a different price is charged every night. Pigeons in our rooms might have provided a bit of variety on the set menu. The same three choices every night. A la Carte highly priced - way above the quality, quantity or interest of the menu. Wrong papers delivered in the mornings, no apologies! My friend couldn't use the lift so they moved her to another room - then charged her a higher rate without warning. PS if you book a superior room you pay for a balcony which is sealed so there is no access to it. What I call a rip off. Then we both got charged for the wine.

    2
    « A night in Dover »

Having stayed there before we were looking forward to a nice meal and a relaxing night. They had replaced the Plus with a Minus. The room was a small twin room, the door could not be opened completely and drawing the curtains was difficult. With a wedding going on in the hotel, the reception area was crowded, getting to the bar was almost impossible as was finding some where to sit. We were shown into a small dining room, as the main one was being used for the wedding party. This room was nice, but the standard of the food was poor, with some of it being cold, and although it was replaced it spoiled the evening.

    4
    « Great location »

Potentially a terrific hotel, great fod and helpful, friendly and efficient staff. Rooms are OK but can be very warm. Sadly the beds are truly out of order. Small double beds with ancient mattresses that are well past their sell by date.

    2
« Great Location, Average Hotel »

Stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. The location is fantastic, with the seafront and views of the cliff. The room was smallish, although I have seen worse, and the Wi-fi signal was poor. The fan in the bathroom sounded like you were on a plane, and you could easily hear sounds from the other rooms. The towels provided were dirty, and so were the duvet and bed cover. There were some nice custard creams with the tea refreshments, although again the plates and cups were not the cleanest. The lift had a mind of its own, you could often find yourselves waiting for ages. The breakfast and dinner at the restaurant was nice.

    1
    « Overpriced »

Room okay once we evacuated the pigeons. Room rate was different every night- by £30 with no warning or explanation A la cartel menu very expensive Set menu the same every day When there was a function there was not enough room in the bar Front and back doors left open on an October night make it very cold sitting in the bar

    « DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY... »

Booked this hotel, which was not cheap, for a one night stay for a function in Dover. I am appalled at the state of the place. The room was small, dated and not clean by any standard. I cannot believe this company is allowed to charge people for such a poor and run down establishment. I cannot comment on the food at this hotel as there was no way on this earth that I would have eaten anything, if the kitchen is anything like the rooms I am sure it would have all ended in tears. Save your money folks, don't stay here and I really do hope something is done about this place.

    2
« Tired hotel with dated furnishings and sloping floors »

We stayed in Dover for a few days and chose this hotel because of its proximity to the beach. First room we were allocated was really grotty, it was tiny, faced the back of the hotel and the floor slopes by 2-3 inches from end to end. It was not good and we asked to be moved. Placed in a room with a beach view and a small balcony - except the door is sealed and you cannot go out on the balcony The walls are paper thin and we were disturbed by early leaving guests walking around clumping as they went loud enough to be disturbing, we shared their TV choice and some of their conversation..... st 5.30am - not cool The restaurant was pleasant, service was friendly and prompt. Menu is good as is the wine list. Rib eye steak was perfect as was the Salmon 3 ways- thank you Paulo perfect service.

    2
    « Mediocre & ' spa ' grotty »

Stayed one night 6th October on business . Despite redecoration this is an old tired hotel . The advertised leisure centre and spa is incredibly grotty and smelly with no pool facility. 11 am check out ! More like a 2 star - TV hanging off the wall in my room at an odd angle. Food mediocre at best . Don't bother with this hotel unless you want a bottom rung experience at 3 star prices.

    2
« Sub standard cream tea and spa »

Booked a Groupon deal for spa and afternoon tea with a mini treatment. Very poor indeed. The spa area is in the basement which consists of a waiting room a gym and the treatment rooms. The mini treatment was fine but the surroundings were dank and a distinct smell of damp in the toilet. Afternoon tea was a shambles. Tea had gone cold by the time sandwiches arrived. Not my idea if a special treat at all.

    « Channel swim prep »

Great staff and always made me feel welcomed and special. Rooms were a good size and dinning was excellent, buffet lunches and dinner great value. Has a gym free for guests and massage available. Right next to the harbour so great for swimming walk in and out.

    3
    « Disappointing »

Disappointing stay. Double bed rather small. Gym/spa could do with a make over toilets in ladies changing room constantly dripping. Smell in bedroom some sort of air freshener over powering Downstairs very nicely done, lovely reception area, staff very friendly. Not good value for money when comparing with other hotels.

« Beautiful renovation of historic property! »

We stayed one night for a Dover Castle tour the following morning. The rooms were big, the bathrooms were big. The linens were very nice, the staff was helpful. Wi-fi worked well. The only reason I cannot give this an "Excellent" rating is because the bed mattress was rock hard, but we learned this seems to be normal in England. This hotel does not have air conditioning, but they do have large fans in the room. We didn't need either as we left our windows open and the weather was not warm. During the time we were visiting, there was construction on the main road near the hotel. We did learn that much of Dover's "High Street" was destroyed during WW2 bombings and was not rebuilt to its former splendor. Consequently, Dover does not attract walking crowds and there isn't much to see. We walked a little, but felt a bit unsafe so returned to the hotel. However, the beautiful coast is lovely and we learned that swimmers begin their adventure across the English Channel from the beach in front of the hotel.

    5
    « Lovely afternoon tea »

Very tasty afternoon tea overlooking the sea. Generous portion for two people and lots of tea!! Took my 6 month old so also baby friendly. We didn't book and went straight in but they did recommend we book next time.

    3
« Lovely building, shame about the room »

We spent two nights here. The hotel is in a Victorian-era building, the last of its kind after WWII obliterated most the others along this former promenading strip. The customer service was a combination of friendly and rude, which seems quite typical of service in the UK overall. Our room was too hot, with the window only being openable about 6 inches and not really allowing any kind of breeze, though there is a fan in the room. The bed was only a double (not queen), and the water pressure was so low it took ages to have a decent shower. However, the hotel is in a good location, thankfully away from the local ghouls inhabiting the rest of Dover.

    2
« the hotel building was in bad shape structurally and this made the trip less than comfortable »

the building was in bad shape structurally, all the floors I walked on were slanted so much you could roll a soft drink can across a room, and some floor boards were sunken. There was also no cold water pressure in the shower so the options were to have a scalding shower or nothing. I reported the issue to reception and was told it was part of the charm of the building and nothing was done to remedy the issue. The staff on reception were a bit sour. There was no Sunday laundry service. The hotel was in a nice area on the plus side. Overall I wasn't impressed.

    « Fantastic »

We stayed here as our son bought us a spa brk, the place is very clean with great rooms & fantastic views, we was very impressed with the best Western & would definitely stay again, the food is very tasty & reasonably priced

« Brilliant value, relaxing facial and lovely restaurant view »

My friend and I stayed here for one night through spaseekers and had a 3 course meal, spa treatment, full breakfast and twin room for £100. Our room was fairly small with a big bathroom but clean and more than enough space for us. The spa treatment was wonderful, very relaxing and professional. Our dinner was really delicious with a lady playing a piano and sea views, and our breakfast was delicious and included everything! There were lots of Americans and Australians visiting and it was quite busy which we liked. I thought the staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so happy and friendly. The decor was quite nice too and the hotel was fairly clean. Would revisit.

« Nice Hotel on the Water in Dover »

I spent a month in Europe this summer and this hotel was by far the best deal. It was 111 lbs for the night. We had a lovely room with a window overlooking the harbor. Breakfast was included which was really a lovely buffet. The room had two double beds and was quite small but served us well. Only comment was the floor was at a tilt... Which was a bit nerve racking but not a big problem. The gym is huge and wonderful. Most people are there the night before a cruise (which included us). Next time I think I will want to stay two nights.

    4
« Long Weekend in Dover »

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel was fairly busy and it was not possible to get an upgrade. Our room was at the back of the hotel with not much of a view. The bathroom was adequate - it could be improved by moving the shelf to a more appropriate place (near the sink) and installing a more powerful shower which was little more than a dribble. There was a good choice for breakfast and it was nice to eat it in the restaurant overlooking the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the Kent countryside or for trips across the Channel

« OK for one night stop overs »

This is a pleasant enough hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was on the fourth floor I think. Check before you book, there was no air conditioning on our floor an inadequate fan was in the room. It was extremely uncomfortable, had to open windows so you get traffic noise. The room was tired and in need of some TLC. It was ok though as it was a single night stop over. You have to par your car over the road in a separate car park. No security at all ?? Hotel needs modernising...

    3
    « Ok »

The hotel itself was lovely, staff fantastic and friendly. However, I find it extremely odd that they do not take a signature when you are billing food or drinks to your room. As when we checked out we were presented with a bill for food and drinks, that we didn't have. I think this is a down fall to the hotel, and the only reason why I would be weary of returning to it or recommending it to anyone. As well as One evening eating in the restaurant, the waitress or head waitress spoke to a waiter in such an unprofessional manor in front of a restaurant full of diners as well. Bad customer service and awful professionalism

    2
« Run down hotel, looks nothing like the pictures »

Having paid the full rate of £175 per night during summer, I was expecting something more up class and generally more well-kept. The building exterior looked like it had weathered a hundred years worth of storms, and felt like it had not been maintained since it was built. The room had no air-conditioning, very stuffy inside during the summer. When you opened the windows you were welcomed by unwanted guests (pigeons). On top of this the room decor and furnishings was just old and horrible, far short of a quaint historic charm - it was just plain old. The bathroom was again, was underwhelming and distasteful, I have had better in college dorms. As for the photos - well, the facade is that this is a nice spa hotel, but the fallacy is that only the reception and bar/restaurant areas are well maintained. Everything else (including the room and bed you sleep in) is just short of expectations. The only good point is the location, but there's other hotels and B&B options in the same area.

« Start of our Honeymoon »

I booked this s hotel as the start to our honeymoon as it's a 5 min dress be from the Ferry port. Was not disappointed at all. Room was great huge bed clean tidy etc etc. Free wifi codes adequate bathroom. The disappointment was getting an email a few days before saying the balconies were shut of for structural reasons. Gutted as we had a sea view and would have been perfect as newlyweds to have sat and relaxed overlooking to harbour. That said the hotel is great. Breakfast takes the mikey. We went to the cafe next door. It's owned and run by the hotel but it's not £16.95 each for a full English it's roughly £16.95 for both with Starbucks. And food from the same kitchen etc etc. Would definitely come here again if we were using the ferry as a couple. Great start to our honeymoon.

« Historic, great location, quiet, relaxing »

This hotel had a great location and struck a balance between affordability and luxury, depending on how much or little you wanted to spend. The bar in the lobby was nice to have, and the views of the channel were fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I liked that this hotel has historic features but still had the modern amenities that I needed.

    « Delightful afternoon tea »

Booked an afternoon tea through a Groupon deal Very nice indeed Pleasant setting .. we were seated in the sunny glass veranda More than enough for two .. although I would have liked more sandwiches and less cake (just my preference though) Good atmosphere .. relaxed and friendly Overall a really pleasant experience

    3
    « Dover »

We normally received a free upgrade at this hotel but not on this occasion which was first time since the change of policy on this. Therefore had to put up with a view of the car park and road to the port. To have windows open was too noisy so had to go with the heat. Shower pressure next to useless. If you are after a standard room there are better priced in Dover. We did have dinner in the restaurant and breakfast - no complaints there.

    « Lovely »

Went there with my partner for a Sunday lunch. From start to finish it was lovely. Atmosphere was very relaxed, food was lovely and staff was prompt and friendly. I would highly recommend here, very good price for good quality food £18 3 course meal. Beautiful view of the beach, which set the afternoon nicely. I would highly recommend to anyone, ensure you book though as it does get very busy.

« Dainty, generous afternoon tea for two! »

Seated on the glassed in veranda looking onto onto the sparkling harbour and endless blue skies all the way top France, we treated ourselves to a really lovely aftenoon tea. It wastraditionally presented on a tiered stand with crustless sandwiches and dainty cakes including a mini eclair, macaron and nutty, toothsome mouthful. Service was charming and we could have tea or coffee. I enjoyed jasmine though the choice was rather restricted and the waiter needed a little bit more briefing on this aspect. I could hardly finish my jam and cream scone and left with a distinctly rounded sense of well being. Yum!

    « Evening drink »

Lack of staff management and training. Low concern about bar customer welfare and quality. Sat at window table inside. Staff past twice but dirty cups and glasses from previous customer not cleared. We moved to outside. No different. Old glasses on table not cleared. Broken glass, cigarette butts and old serviettes under table. Mostly tourists outside, embarrassed to be part of this attitude to service

    « Stayed there before a cruise »

Nice hotel and near the town and cruise ship terminal. Would have liked it more if it had 110v. The restaurant is nice and so is the staff. The rooms are nice. It's a 6 pound cab ride to the cruise ship terminal.

« Lovely Hotel with Beautiful Views »

We stayed here for one night in a family room with 4 adults and we were thoroughly impressed. During August, myself, my Husband, my Sister and her Boyfriend went on a mini road trip and as part of that, we were heading to Disneyland Paris so had booked a Dover-Calais Ferry so booked into this hotel the night prior. Upon checking in, the receptionist was really friendly and helpful and could not have made us more welcome which after a long day was very much appreciated. The hotel itself was beautiful and we were all slightly disappointed that we had arrived so late as we would have really welcomed the chance to use the spa and gym. The restaurant also looked lovely however as we were all so tired, we chose to bypass this and order room service. Our room was clean and well presented. If we are being honest, it was not as chic as the rest of the hotel but was still well presented and we were more than happy with the room we had. We were especially pleased and impressed with the selection of biscuits to accompany your tea and coffee. The hotel offers room service on selected meals (I believe until 23:00 although I cannot be certain if this timing is correct) and then 24 hour room service on sandwiches. All 4 of us opted for burgers however the majority of our party are fussy eaters and 3 of the 4 meals ordered had alterations and all were met and the staff were more than happy to accommodate this and let me tell you, the burgers were simply divine! A+++ The hotel is well positioned if you are getting a ferry the next day, I think it took us about 5 minutes to get to the ferry port in the morning and yet from the hotel, you are overlooking the sea without seeing the ferry port. It had some stunning views. We will definitely book again if we are in Dover.

Great location in Dover. Easy access to restaurants and the ferry terminals. Rooms were clean and quite and a nice size. The bathroom in my room was downright huge. Outside terrace is a great place to gather for a drink and snacks. The breakfast was hearty and offered many choices. Would definitely stay here again if in Dover overnight.

This is a fine hotel with a super pedigree, it does a pretty good job of keeping very high standards. If I come back to Dover, I can't think of any reason not to come back to the 'Dover Marina Hotel & Spa' .

    « Fantastic! »

What a lovely hotel! Plenty of parking right out front. The hotel staff was amazing. The room was incredible! Had a double wide porch overlooking the bay. Went downstairs to the bar and grabbed a few and retired to the room. Price was right and again, the location was great! If you're in the area, definitely stay here!

    « Good overnight stay »

My wife and I stayed here en route to France, along with my daughter and her three children. They had a large family room which easily slept the four of them. Both rooms were very comfortable, and very good value. Reception service was very good. However, we ate breakfast next door in Starbucks, much cheaper than the hotel. Hotel is very near the docks, and looks out on the sea with access road in front, so very quiet. Highly recommended.

A beautiful historic building. Nicely refurbished. Generously sized rooms and nice staff. Really good buffet breakfast and the window seats have a beautiful view. Located directly opposite the beach, close to all attractions and plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend.

    « Afternoon Tea »

I had organised Afternoon Tea to celebrate my Mothers 88th Birthday...From the moment we arrived, we were met with courteous and caring staff, who provided excellent service throughout the afternoon....Both the table by the window on a sunny afternoon, looking out to sea and the tea and presentation of sandwiches, cakes etc. was excellent and certainly made the birthday celebration a most enjoyable event. All in all an afternoon, I would thoroughly recommend.

Stayed here as Premier Inn was full! Was ok. Interesting hotel. As it is listed building, no air con but there was a large fan on a stand in the room. Small bed, shower ok but power very low. Had bar food which was ok. Proximity to the harbour makes this an ideal place to stay. Lovely to look out to the channel. Bit difficult to update things in this hotel as it has a charm in its history. Did not use any other facilities. Very friendly check in.

    « Good Comfortable Hotel »

We stayed here for a night & I found it a really good hotel. Good location. Right in front of sea. It is just 15 minutes walk from the station. Dover Castle is also walkable. White Cliffs trek is also nearby. We booked the superior double room with sea facing balcony but could not use the balcony as they had to be inspected. The hotel staff provided us with free breakfast instead. The room was spacious & comfortable. The staff was very polite & helpful. The breakfast was great. Good options to choose from & very filling. Gym & Spa facilities available. Overall, a good place to stay & I would stay again when I am next in town.

    « Brief but enjoyable »

I was overnighting here and away early in the morning so I can only comment on reception and the room. The reception was cheery and very helpful. In the room I had 2 x twins in a large room and a great bathroom. All the usual toiletries provided. I thinks this was great for what it was.

« Nothing "Plus" about it!!! »

Balcony rooms advertised at a premium rate, however balconies have been rated unsafe by local authorities!!! But still the hotel sucks you in . To get a Sea breeze you can open the balcony doors by 180 mm!! But are not allowed to sit on balcony even though chairs and table are in place . Superior rooms are tiny, I wish I had looked at Trip Advisor before I booked. The receptionist was great, poor thing, guests were queued up to complain.

poor quality beds and bedding, windows not opening enough made for hot uncomfortable stay, hotel is dated and needs quality update starting with the basics like decent mattress and bedding. In hot conditions not a good place to stay.

« OK for night before a cruise »

Room was small; however it was clean. Mattress needed replacement as it was too soft. Hotel does have a small elevator to get to upper floors--holds two to three people with their luggage maximum. Breakfast buffet the next morning was fairly good. Everything seemed fresh and tasty. In general was fine for one night before a cruise. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

« not the standards of best western 4 stars »

Very used to stay in 4 stars, we were extremely disappointed by the size and the standard of the superior double room ( £179) we were given, very small window, some towels on bathroom floor obviously not changed, some bugs coming from the window seal, hot, very hot no air cond, the complementary personal hygiene items / tea coffee provided are definitlely not the standard of a 2 to 3 star hotel, for a recently refurbished hotel the deco of the is very disappointed and tired. Will be ok for halfthe price of the room to say the least but not at nearly £200 a night

    « would stay again »

have stayed here twice now and have had no problems as it's in a good area on the sea front and very close to the town and docks we would stay here again also the staff and service was very professional.

    « Spa break »

We booked an overnight romantic spa break through Speseekers and was told by three people that we would have a bottle of bubbly in our room when we arrived. We never got this and after speaking to the manager, was told that all we would get is a glass each. Don't book this break through Spaseekers!!!! The room was small and cramped and the shower had no water pressure so was difficult to even get wet. There was a water leak in the bathroom so our feet were wet when washing. The window was hard to open and the paint (and some wood) was falling off. For a spa weekend, it was disappointing as there was no pool or Jacuzzi as with many other spa hotels. The only saving grace was Inga who gave me the best back massage I have had. I would not go back there and would hesitate to recommend it to a friend.

« Decent but fooled by google images »

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel as our room was a decent size and was also clean. We had been given a room with view of the marina which was very pretty especially at night. However, parking was a hassle and we were fooled into believing that this hotel had a pool - which was a silly mistake made by us and not the hotel. Therefore, this hotel rating is average as it did not live up to our expectations.

« great location and nice hotel, but beware of the smaller "superior" doubles »

On the positive side, the Best Wester Plus Dover Marina Hotel has a great location, with direct harbor views and close to the tunnel for Dover city center. It is a full service hotel, with a nice bar/cafe with outside patio, restaurant, and Starbucks coffee shop, complimentary wifi, etc. On the negative side, superior double rooms have water view and balcony and all are priced the same, but as we found out the hard way not all their superior double rooms are created equal. We were given room 102, which one can easily tell from the balcony is HALF the size of the other rooms around it. The bed is not two twins pushed together (which is really king sized), but is a true double bed (small). And even though the bed was small, there was barely room to get around it (around 2 feet on the left side of the bed, maybe 3 feet at the foot of the bed, and 4 feet on the right. All their other rooms were taken, so we were stuck, but we wanted to get the word out. This room should be priced significantly lower that the real superior rooms.

« Nice but a bit cramped for three people »

Stayed here with my sister and a friend prior to sailing to Calais. Parking conveniently situated opposite the hotel and free of charge. The welcome at reception was warm but no upgrade offered as a diamond rewards member. The room itself was a little tired and far too cramped with the fold away bed. The meal in the lounge bar was ok and the view is pleasant. The hotel is very well situated for the port.

    « Nice little bar »

Didn't stay in hotel only went in for a cocktail or 2 after dinner. Staff polite and very friendly. Cocktails an average price and pretty tasty. Decor was clean and fresh. Better than our expectations of what it would be like.

    « Disappointed! »

We booked to stay in the Best Western Marine Hotel the night before we caught our really early ferry to Calais. As we had stayed in many Best Western Hotels previously we were expecting a decent nights stay. Unfortunately this was not the case. Our room was fine, however; we ordered a meal via room service. All three meals were incorrect in small but annoying ways, i.e. mustard on the chicken when there was no mention on the menu of mustard and my stepson hates mustard! I asked for a club sandwich on a baguette and got normal bread. Little things I know, but not what we asked for. It was a hot night so we left the windows open when we went to sleep. How I wish we could have slept! About midnight some of the hotel staff must have wanted to go clubbing. They all gathered in the street outside our room window and for half an hour shouted, swore and generally made loads of noise until their taxis turned up. I was knackered in the morning when we had to get up at 4am for our ferry. Disappointed by the hotel and would not stay there again.

    « Old Worlde Charm »

I have stayed here for work a couple of times recently. I stayed in a sea view room which was quite adequate and a bit quaint, due to the sloping floor. It was quite warm, but as there is no aircon that was expected. A fan was provided to help cool the room. The staff were all, courteous, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice, the dining room overlooked the seafront and was very airy and spacious. I ate dinner in the restaurant and the quality and value was very impressive. Free parking in the car park nearby is handy. All in all an enjoyable stay in an individual hotel, which makes a change from the larger chains. My preferred choice for Dover stays.

    5
    « Perfect Location »

We are so glad to be given a room with a sea view. They also have a sauna and gym for no extra cost so it's a plus factor in choosing this hotel. 7 to 10 minutes walk from the train station and Town Centre. It's also walking distance to Dover Castle and the White Cliffs. Thumbs up to the staff of Best Western Plus Dover Marina Hotel & Spa.

    « Ok for 1 night »

This hotel is fine for a nights stay. We were initially given a family room on the upper floor. This was unbearably hot and uncomfortable as there is no air conditioning and the windows barely opened. We managed to move to a lower floor with a sea facing room which was much better. Location is great and parking is easy.

This was an amazing hotel! The room was quite large with three singles and a full bath. We left the window open and really enjoyed the sights and sounds. We booked taxi service through the front desk to the port the night before and they arrived right on time! Our only regret was not having more time at this lovely hotel!

Stayed here for one night with a massage included and breakfast . The hotel has lots of parking and it's free and our room was on the bigger side with sea view which was clean and airy and lovely view. Bed very comfy . Lift a bit small. Spa area very nice and staff very welcoming . The bar area is lovely overlooking the sea and nicely decorated the food at the bar was amazing and roughly ten pound each for lunch . The main restaurant very nice and the tomato soup is the best we have ever tasted . Two choices of menu in restaurant we had the a la cart at roughly 30 each it was delicious and lots of choice. Breakfast was very good with fab service lovely stay .

« Small room, no airconditioning, school dinner cooking »

We originally booked ? and prepaid ? a room at the Ramada Dover, some 4 miles outside the town, but when we arrived, there appeared to be a problem with the room ? they didn't have one, despite my having already paid! I know airlines overbook, but this insidious practice now seems to have taken hold in hotels. However, they had booked us another room at this Best Western, right on the sea front in Dover, and, as compensation, they included a complimentary dinner, so that went some way toward mollifying us. Our room, on the 4th floor, overlooking the sea, was pleasant enough, though really rather small. This is an old building, dating back to the late 1800s, so it was all a bit of a jumble, crooked walls, floors and corridors, but with plenty of character. Our complimentary dinner (for two) was the set menu (three courses) which was quite good, though nothing particularly special, and I'm not sure I would have liked to pay the full price ? the mains were a bit sparse, we both had sea bass, one small fillet each, accompanied by mashed sweet potato, a small quantity of kale and two frozen potato croquettes. If the kitchen had taken the trouble to serve a few boiled new potatoes, instead of frozen school dinner fare, then we would have been much more impressed! There is no airconditioning, just a small pedestal fan was provided, and the room was quite hot as a result. The bed was also quite small ? not a full-sized double bed ? so we didn't get a particularly good night's sleep, sadly. Breakfast was better than dinner, thankfully ? the usual assortment of juices, cereals, fresh fruits and hot(ish) cooked stuff, bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, scrambled eggs, hash browns. Danish pastries, croissants and toast completed the fare. Free wifi was good.

« Location is the only benefit to this tired hotel »

Quick review - we stayed here for one night in order to get an early ferry to Calais. The hotel is in a great location, 5 minutes from the port, with free overnight parking on the street outside. The downsides though; musty smelling room, uncomfortable beds, no air-conditioning and significant noise from the road/party-goers and 24x7 seagull population compounded by single-glazing keeping out none of it! Whilst it served a purpose, we would not return in a hurry, but in the right hands this could be a lovely sea-front hotel.

    3
    « It's ok »

It's a kind of OK hotel according to facilities available inside and outside. Good thing Is they are just in front of sea. Check the weather before coming here. It's a good raining zone so we suffered. £94.00 isn't that worth with limited facilities inside the hotel room. Got few complaints when moving here and there in second floor because sound can automatically produce when walking. Serious not our fault.

« Beautiful setting, good value, uncomfortable nights sleep »

Great location for the night before our cruise. Earned some points from the wife at the initial impression of the hotel. Great view of the beach, great looking building from the exterior, and great rate. It was a late July stay and the beaches on Dover were pleasantly breezy warm at high seventies (25C), our room however was a very unpleasant 90 degrees (32C) alllll night long. Very uncomfortable nights sleep, which is unusual because I can almost fall asleep standing. The provided fan can only help so much when its blowing warm air. The issue is the exposed piping for the radiant heat runs through the room even though the radiators are turned off. Second the windows only open 1/4 of the way so you can't cool the room off with the lovely outside air. Lastly all the beds were in urgent need of replacement. All of them just felt like piles of blankets, and my family roll away bed felt like it was tilted 10 degrees. With a little common sense investment in the hotel like functioning windows, new bedding and insulated plumbing the place would be adequate. To make it a true beach side premium stay its going to need some significant investment.

    « friendly, great location »

Fun place to stay. Staff friendly and efficient. Great location. Enjoyed the short walk to downtown area and up the hill to Dover Castle. Got a room with the crazy slanted floors. Once you got used to the floors it was kinda fun. Got us used to being aboard ship we were to cruise on a few days later.

    « Excellent value hotel »

This hotel was excellent value considering its superb location next to the sea. The room was a little tired, because of the age of the building but this did not affect us adversely. The staff were most helpful and there was an excellent restaurant in the hotel. A very busy place but can recommend it !

    « exellent stay »

very good hotel, value for money.Close to the port of Dover so a great way to start or end our journey. Great view from the restaurant and the rooms on the front of the hotel. Nice staff and Always helpfull and attent. Rooms sometimes can be oneven, but its an old hotel and that makes the charme.

    « Very disappointing »

We stayed here two nights. We arrived after getting caught in the Dover tunnel traffic jam for 2 hours. There had been a regatta in the hotel area so it was noisy when we arrived. Check in was difficult to hear the girl as the bar is a couple of meters from the reception. The room was so tiny that I had to climb over the bed to get to the toilet. There was a half used body lotion in the bathroom and the tv didn't work. After many unanswered calls to reception and having to go there myself things were resolved by the second day. The manager gave us a discount for our meal which was very kind of him. Wouldn't return in a hurry unfortunately.

    3
« Convenient if you are joining the cruise »

The hotel is very close to the cruise pier, however, it needs a good refurbishment of the public areas, specially the stairs. We were checked in (after the guaranteed check in time) in a room where the housekeeper was still inside, adding two extra bed in the room (we were only two) however, the housekeeping supervisor did an amazing job and found us a way better room, I am not sure if the same category I paid or lower but to be honest I don't care.

Good value hotel right on the waterfront, comfy rooms with nice en suite, didn't eat there but reports say that food is very good. Hotel has private parking there is also good on street parking outside hotel.Ideal stopover for ferry terminal which is minutes away. Lift to all floors so no stair climbing needed.

« Yet another Excellent lunch »

My wife and daughter went for lunch last Friday. We had booked a table in the conservatory which gives you a great view of the harbour. In addition to the a la carte menu they have a two course set menu for £9.95p which is excellent value and and superb. I opted for the steak which was £5 extra but well worth it. I cannot say enough about the restaurant and staff because they are both of a very high standard. Again this is a must visit.

« Classic old hotel in good location »

We stayed at the BWP in order to be close to the Dover Castle and cliffs, both of which are about five minutes away by car. It's not a modern hotel but the long halls and sloped floors in the rooms give it a charm! There is no air conditioning but the breeze through the windows in the front rooms was adequate during our July stay. Note, however, that you may want to keep the thin blinds drawn because of the pigeons - we had one pay us a visit, although he didn't stay too long :). This is a destination hotel and there was a wedding the night of our stay with loud music up until midnight, so you may want to ask about such things in advance. The beds and rooms were comfy, the restaurant was very good, and the staff was nice. Plenty of parking. The beach front is right across the road in front of the hotel and you can watch the ferry boats and cruise ships coming and going.

    « Horrible »

We stayed for 1 night. We were exhausted afterwards. We couldn't move the window-It was too old, so it had to stay open all night. As we came back from dinner pigeons were on our bed!!! The bed was a nightmare, appr. 1,10m for two... One side was askew, so i was falling out three Times during the night. The room was too small to Open out lugagge on the floor.. The shower was terrible, too. No water pressure at all... We booked via hrs Maybe because of this we got such a lousy room...

    « Australian Travellers »

Chose this Hotel for its proximity to the ferry terminal and also the cruise terminal. Lovely Georgian building right on the front street, with a great view across the harbour and esplanade. However, our room was an awkward shape to manage luggage and move around. The bathroom which was clean and equipped with hair dryer and fixed body lotion dispenser in corner shower was quite small and the light and exhaust fan both ran at the same time from the one pull cord switch and fan was quite noisy. Bed was reasonably comfortable and linen fresh and clean. The window could be partly opened with a view of the back street and row of shops, across to the castle on the hill so was quite pleasant. Being a seaside town, there are many seagulls which, unfortunately, leave their mark on windows and buildings. This detracts from the window view! Hotel staff are friendly but don't volunteer much information at check in except showing us the lift, knowing full well that you are a visitor. We have used this hotel chain world wide but found this one lacking in customer service. Great location, nice outdoor terrace for afternoon tea etc and Spa which we did not use, but other hotels would be worth a look.

    5
    « Close to Ferry »

We chose this place because of its location to the ferry terminal. The room was clean and comfortable. The desk clerks were friendly and helpful. We had drinks in the hotel bar and enjoyed watching the ferries and other craft go by in the channel. We would stay again.

« Excellent Location, noisy night »

The location was good to find, they have got a deal with a parking and one have to park in the back at public car park, but before you do that make sure that you collect a parking coupon from them. We stayed on the fourth floor in a double room, the bed was just bigger than a single bed.We had a view (glimpse) of sea through the window. There was a wedding going on (9th July) and they have taken over the bar and more or less every where. I under stand that hotel needed the business but we had to go out in a town centre to eat. The DJ downstairs didn't stop still 1am. Every time I had to get in or out of the hotel, had to struggle my way though the drunken louts of Wedding party who wouldn't give you a way. The HOTEL SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST WARNED ME AT THE TIME OF BOOKING that there will be a wedding and DJ will be playing loud music till late.

« Spa and Afternoon Tea »

I have just returned from a spa afternoon with afternoon tea included which I purchased for a friend as her birthday treat. I would rate this as good overall as I think average is a bit unfair but there are a few areas which if improved would have made my rating excellent: Firstly, this was my first visit and the staff need to remember that first impressions count. Attentive reception staff in the spa would have made all the difference. No-one asked us if we had been there before, we were just told to fill in a form and then left wondering what to do next. We had to ask for robes and towels and only then were we told to follow a member of staff to the changing rooms. The package included use of the gym (which we had to walk through to get to the changing rooms and then walk back in our robes and little else! Would it not have made sense to put the changing rooms between the spa and gym so guests didn't feel quite exposed?) and the sauna which no-one pointed out to us and so therefore we never got to use. We only found it on our way out! Secondly, after completing our treatments we were told to go back to the relaxation area. We knew we had to be somewhere for afternoon tea at 3.30pm (spa reception staff failed to explain how the afternoon would be set out) but as there were no clocks in any areas of the spa and we had to leave watches and phones in the lockers on the other side of the gym we had no idea of the time. We assumed, wrongly, therefore that someone would let us know when we needed to be elsewhere. Eventually my internal clock made me suspicious that we might be late so we went to the spa reception to find out the time and where we should be and found no staff and that we had been locked in and couldn't get out of the spa area to get to the changing area! The only way out was up to reception which I had no intention of doing in just a bath robe! After 12 minutes a member of the public came in and we had to ask them to hold the door so we could get out. We got changed and headed back to the spa to hand in our robes and slippers as we hadn't been told what to do with them. Only after us asking were we told where to be next. The actual spa treatments were excellent as was the staff member who carried them out and again the afternoon tea was lovely and the restaurant staff were very good although a little thin on the ground. All in all I would return now I know what to do and where to go but it would have been nice to feel welcome, a few minutes of staff time at the beginning would have made all the difference.

    « Absolutely dire! »

This isn't a review of the Hotel - just the coffee shop. Have used it frequently over the past couple of years and wouldn't have raved about it - however it was acceptable. On my last visit ordered a couple of smoked salmon bagels - ghastly! My Partner couldn't eat hers (smoked salmon didn't taste quite right) I ploughed on and wish I hadn't. Hardly any soft cheese, no seasoning, no lemon and the fries arrived as a result of going to the counter to ask where they were. My Partners was 90% untouched and so received a refund - given with very bad grace! Such a shame as a great location,

    « Very mixed feelings »

We were a small group staying for a week. Some of my friends were not impressed with the rooms, and thought the 4 star denomination was a joke. I thought the rooms were pretty comfortable. BUT: Staff. Some of them were absolutely lovely but there was one bad apple, who should really reconsider his career in hospitality, a tall skinny fellow from Scotland. When we got back to the hotel late one night, it took him 10 minutes to come and open. He had clearly been sleeping, which is fine, as it was late, but he was not apologetic at all, and when we asked for a pint from the so-called "24 hour bar", he said we'd have to wait 20 minutes as it was his break... Your "break"? He should read up on "customer is king", it would have taken 3 minutes in total to pour the pints, take our money and make the hotel guests happy, then he could have gone on his "break" (i.e. back to sleep in the office). Room service was appalling, I could have made that £6 sandwich in 15 seconds. Room cleaning: not great. Found my used towel on the floor, as well as other things lying around. Bed was made in a hurry. Wifi was on and off, at one point off for 2 straight days in a row. Hesitated to leave a negative comment, as again, a couple of the staff were friendly, professional and accommodating, but it has to be pointed out when one particular member is rude and completely out of order, as it can ruin an experience. Also feel like I'm doing him a favour: Mate, if you read this, try a profession that does not require human interaction.

We were staying here before our Disney Cruise around the British Isles. This hotel is a short cab ride from the port. We enjoyed a very scenic walk to get pizza for our kids as well as enjoyed a nice stop at a pub and enjoyed the view of the area. It was great to see the swimmers. This was a perfect hotel before our cruise. We had a family of four and we had to have a roll away bed for the fourth. It was cramped, but we weren't there for long.

    « One Night Stay »

We decided to stop by this hotel on our visit to Dover as it is well located near most attractions (white cliffs and dover castle) and the train station. The rooms are a bit on the small side and they get quite hot at night, which can be a bit of an issue. They do provide a fan for the room but that doesn't really make much of a dent. Their restaurant (The Waterfront) is actually quite decent and I would recommend having dinner there by the windows (you can see a really nice sunset in the evening).

« Short notice booking to celebrate my Fiances birthday! »

Not being a particularly spontaneous person I was concerned about booking a hotel to celebrate my Intendeds birthday as that good go from good to bad really quickly....However - What a good find! We checked in late Friday afternoon and sat in the conservatory over the harbour and had a beer watching sun go down then changed and had a fantastic meal in their waterfront restaurant. We are quite fussy but we could not fault it. It was un-rushed beautifully cooked and there was enough staff around to meet our every need - Good Job.

« One night stay in Dover »

We were staying in Dover for a Saturday night and booked a room at the Best Western Plus. Very easy to find and the hotel is in a great location - right on the sea front. The room we booked was on the 4th floor and was small. Just enough room for a double bed, desk, small wardrobe and a bathroom. But the room was right at the front of the hotel and overlooked the sea, so great for watching the world and ferries go by. We didn't eat in the hotel or drink in the bar, but looks like a very nice bar area with seating outside for sunnier days. We left early in the morning, so didn't stay for breakfast, but overall a very nice hotel if you're staying in Dover. Easy to find, close (free) parking and very close to the ferry port..

« Noisy at Night and Rooms too Hot. »

We stayed for one night before a cruise. The hotel is well presented and the rooms are big, but there was noise from all around. There is a major road with lorries passing all night en route to/from the port at the back, so we splashed out on a sea view room which we thought would be quieter. However there were cars whizzing along the promenade all night, (presumably to avoid the traffic at the back of the hotel), so it was still noisy. The windows were so old and poorly maintained that they were almost falling out, so they only slightly dulled the traffic noise. Also the temperature in the room was far too hot, (and the radiator was on until we turned it off), so even with the window closed, it was not possible to sleep because of the heat. The Breakfast was fine, but the overall cost was well above what the hotel is worth.

« Awful beds and cramped room »

My room was on the fourth floor with a sea view. The room was cramped and the bed was really uncomfortable. The mattress sunk on either side and must have been years old. I woke up with back ache both mornings. The hotel was very noisy. It's about 1km to the ferry terminal yet the low rumble of the ferry engines was always audible. The hotel has single glazing which doesn't block out noise well. I was woken several times by the noise of the seagulls which perched on the ledge outside the window. The bedroom window opened only 2 inches so it was difficult to get any cool or fresh air into the room. The walls are really thin, I could hear people having a bath in the room next door and I was woken up numerous times in the night by people talking at a normal volume in the corridor and the slamming of doors. The shower didn't work so I could only have a bath. I would not recommend this hotel if you want somewhere comfortable to stay and a good night's sleep, instead choose to stay at the Premier Inn Ferry Terminal East, which is clean, modern, comfortable and quiet.

« Poor, poor and poor »

Arrived on a Sunday, hotel was quiet. Went up to my room, which I can describe at best as average. Single wardrobe with just about enough room for 3 items of clothing (the ironing board had also been squashed in the wardrobe). Two single beds with a socket in the middle so they couldn't even be pushed together properly even if I tried. A good night's sleep was non existent and the beds are very uncomfortable. The TV just about worked and most of the stations would freeze more often than not. No heating in the room either. The view was a car park and each morning you are woken by the lovely sound of seagulls tapping on the window or birds cooing right outside the window. I did not enjoy this hotel at all and will not be going back.

« Near perfect Afternoon Tea and Spa Day »

We initially found the hotel on Groupon in search of a spa day for a friend's birthday. As there were 6 of us we were struggling to pay 2 at a time. We called the hotel who were very accommodating and told us they would match any price on Groupon and we'd be able to pay for 6 in one go. When we arrived we all had amazing treatments, 4 of us getting back massages, one an Indian head massage and one a manicure. If you're looking for a day spent at a spa it isn't the place for you as there aren't too many spa amenities but for treatments it's perfect. We then had our afternoon tea with a free glass of bubbly. The afternoon tea was one of the best we've all had, one declaring better than the one at Harrod's! It was the perfect size and they were so accommodating to the vegetarian and lactose intolerant among us. I would 100% recommend this hotel for a day out with friends.

    3
« Great location, Needs upgrading »

The room we were in was slanted and the bed was sagging in the middle. The door to the room slammed every time we used it. I mentioned this to the front desk as I was concerned for the other guests. Well that was a waste of time! The area was worth visiting.

    4
    « Short Break »

Friendly service, sea view room compact but adequate, good location for touring the area or day trip to France, great evenings in the bar, excellent speciality nights, this is a hotel that is over 100 years old but still has a wonderful charm.

    « Convenient and comfortable »

Stayed here for 1 night before travelling by ferry to the continent. We were really impressed with the place. Clean & comfortable rooms and we had a fantastic view from the front of the hotel. It is in the ideal location in readiness for a holiday if crossing the channel. Lovely promenade to walk along outside the hotel also. We opted for breakfast in the morning (we had a good deal where this was included). Breakfast was a help yourself buffet style with a good selection. Only down side was there often didn't seem to be enough food. I started with the vegetarian basics as there were no sausages left and so ended up going back & forth as more food appeared - even then only about 8 items at a time of one sort of food. All in all pretty good though.

    « Hotel stay »

The staff are really attentive and helpfull, which would be a key reason to for us returning to this hotel. The standard rooms are small and if you book a deal expect not to have a view of the harbour. The restaurant is pleasant and the pianist playing adds to the atmoshere. The Sunday lunch is very good, but do not recommend the main menu on other nights...the food was of less than expected in quality, presentation and quantity. But would certainky again

« Overnight stay pre cruise »

Well - rooms with no air conditioning, a lift takes hours to teach you either upstairs or down, dirty crockery doesn't make for an enjoyable or indeed pleasant stay. The saving grace was a lovely cafe next door serving wholesome fish and chip and a good location. Window frames are rotten and frankly it needs gutting outside! Won't be back I would rather take my chance parking at the harbour and staying in a Premier Inn!

    « Afternoon tea and spa :-) »

My friend and I came here for an afternoon tea and spa day and it was absolutely wonderful! The afternoon tea was the best I have ever had! The scones were fresh and absolutely divine! The macaroons and sandwiches were delicious also! The masseuse was amazing and very polite. The bar staff were the only downfall, impolite and really quite rude. The woman looked irritated when I asked for a glass of tap water, they handed me a cloudy warm glass of water which is just unacceptable. The gent in the restaurant and the lady on reception were very polite.

« Badly managed. Undeserving of 4 star »

We arrived while they were having some work done in reception. We couldn't get in. We were ringing the bell trying to get someone's attention. Then another guest told us to use the ramp entrance. We did that with all our bags and then had to fight our way through the bar chairs with all our bags to head towards reception. We were checked in by the front door (the one they weren't paying any attention to earlier). They then sent us through the bar again, down the corridor, up the emergency exit stairs to the first floor to find a lift to take us to the third. Absolute shambles. Meanwhile there was an empty conference room that we walked by . Why not bring all your guests into that room to check them in while the work was being undertaken in reception? We understand that work has to be done but it needs to be managed appropriately. This wasn't and is very disappointing for a best western. We were directed to the car park round the back but had to walk round the front with all our bags because the rear exit was shut due to the works. The noise was going on until 11pm(on a sunday)- totally unacceptable We were going to stay in the hotel for dinner and a quiet drink but it wasn't quiet at all. Nevermind the health and safety element. It was so dusty and smelt really bad due to the works. We went out for dinner and drinks in the end. The cherry on the cake was when we tried to order room service at 11 30 to be told there's no room service tonight because of the work going on! They advertise 24hr room service on their website... Absolute shambles! As far am I'm concerned we weren't advised this was going to be going on. We paid full price for a lack of service, for a stay , a hotel, a room which was not fit for purpose, which was not what we paid for. I would also question their emergency procedures... the duty manager tried to show me where the car park was and was unable to open the emergency exit! Totally spoilt our anniversary. We were only away for one night. Spoilt. Not good enough best western. Taking this further Duty manager on the Monday was a very understanding gentleman called Trevor Ford who was sympathetic and apologetic. However it was not his fault his failure. We want a response from best western as it was totally unacceptable what we were subjected to at full price

    « Great hotel »

Did an overnight stay in this hotel with dinner, bed and breakfast! The room was tidy and clean, the staff were all friendly, and the food was delicious can't fault it at all! We also choose to have a spa treatment each which we both enjoyed! This is our second year at this hotel and would return.

    « 4 day break »

Staff exceptionally good and helpful. Good decor, Good food, Like all hotels, creaks a bit when full, but no real inconvenience. Lovely room but over the vents from the kitchen so cooking smells. Also room layout is a triumph of aesthetics over practicality.

« Afternoon tea is poor, lovely facials »

We got a Groupon deal for a treatment and afternoon tea, the facial was incredible. All staff we come in contact with were lovely, friendly and welcoming the only thing letting it down was the afternoon tea, the sandwiches had far too much margarine or similar soft spread in them and the cakes were cheap tasting, we have been for many afternoon teas ranging from £10-£100 per head this was the worst sadly we have had.

« not as good as expected »

We booked a room with breakfast 2 months before for our wedding night,we asked for a disabled room and also said we wanted to check in early as my bride wanted to get changed there for our wedding,on arrival my partner was told there was not any rooms ready and had to wait in the foyer for a room to be made ready which was then put on the top floor which was not disabled,so for a hotel chain with such a good reputation and the overall experiance we would never stay with this group again, Also i cant belieive that i had to pay extra for a sea view and not getting a disabled room with so much notice is not acceptable,,

« Booked the spa Groupon deal »

We booked a spa and afternoon tea through Groupon as a little treat for ourselves to kick start our holiday. We arrived a little late because the parking meter at the front the hotel was playing up so we had to move our car, it was only when we were inside that we found out we could have obtained a permit from them for free parking in the shopping centre behind. We were greeted by very friendly reception staff who directed us where we needed to go. I had a facial and my husband had a massage, we both enjoyed this and the girls were lovely and explained everything to us. Very very relaxing. We could have used the relaxation room as well as the sauna but we were running short of time. Once we had our treatments we went up for our afternoon tea. We were asked if we had any dietary requirements and as I'm a vegetarian I had a separate stand to my husband. We had lots of delicious freshly made sandwiches and cake served by polite friendly waiters. We are keen to book again and would definitely recommend it.

« Does what it says on the tin. »

Stayed here the night before our ferry to France. Staff very helpful and the room was perfect. Not a lot not to like! The price was competitive and included free parking. We didn't have breakfast as we had an early start, but the restaurant looked fine.

    « Lovely Hotel »

I recently spent one night in this hotel for work. I booked a single room but when I checked in they had given me a double room - nice upgrade. The room was lovely. The bed was amazing - great night sleeps. Only negative was the room was at the back and was a bit dark. The staff was very helpful and the food was lovely. Overall a lovely visit. Would definitely stay there again.

    « Jaded Elegance »

The hotel has a great location overlooking the port area and the room we had was at this side of the hotel. The room was adequate but cramped. Breakfast was most enjoyable held in the elegant room which faces the harbour. The service was excellent and the staff most obliging as we needed to wait until after mid day to leave. Would recommend that you stay just one night.

    « Poor service »

A group of 3 people and we got given one menu to share as they had run out. There was about 4 tables of people. Waited about 10 mins for our order to be taken, was asked if we would like water, said yes please, we are still waiting. Never asked about any drinks other than once when wine was ordered. Gave up after 20 mins waiting for someone to ask if we would like coffee to finish the meal, we would have. Service was appalling and the food nothing to boast about ( we serves 2 big slices of patio, with one small piece of crusty bread ??)

    « Enjoyable »

Both myself and my wife had a hugely enjoyable stay for 3 nights from 2nd to 5th March, 2016! We liked our seafront room which was clean and spacious as well as the food, enjoying breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner of which, Bombay night on the Thursday was a real highlight. Added to this, the staff were pleasant, friendly and always willing to help. True, it is an old building, there are slants and creaks and when the sun is up it can be hot, but this just adds to the overall character of the hotel. Furthermore Dover itself is a great place to visit, more than just an access point to and from mainland Europe and currently going through a regeneration. There is the majestic and impenetrable English Heritage run Dover Castle to visit as well as the fantastic White Cliffs to stroll over with breath taking views to behold all the way to the wonderful St Margarets on Cliffe, former home of Noel Coward and the closest village in Britain to France. If that is not enough to interest people, there is also Samphire Hoe country park, which is found on the climb out of Dover as if travelling toward Folkestone, and is nestled below the White Cliffs and was created from the chalk that was put there from the Channel Tunnel excavations in 1997. There is a wonderful walk here with stunning views of the coastline, especially across to Folkestone itself! Overall, we had a great time and urge people to stay and enjoy Dover and not just pass it by!

« Accommodated Our Elderly Relatives »

Nothing was too much trouble, and my relatives felt comfortable and cared for at this hotel. This was during the Channel Swimming Time, so the place was packed out with enthusiastic youthful ones, but they were respectful of our older folk. The hotel staff gave excellent service, and the balcony room was comfortable. A little problem with ants caused slight alarm - but hey, everyone has to live! Over-all a safe and caring accommodation. All of the staff greeted us with smiles and dignity. Thank you.

« Sunday Carvery Birthday Lunch »

Just returned from a lovely meal at this hotel. There were ten of us plus a baby. We had a lovely Sunday carvery. There was a great choice of beautifully cooked meats and plenty of choice of vegetables to accompany them. Puddings were also very good. The service was very good and our young waiter was very efficient. Pianist was very good too and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. My wife was very surprised when staff came out singing Happy Birthday to her with a chocolate brownie surrounded by strawberries and cream, and a candle - lovely touch! Thank you :)

« Windows let in cold air, shower didn't work and very noisy hotel! Stay at Premier Inn! »

My partner and I came to this hotel in-between Christmas and New Year for a two night break. There are only two positives to this hotel. Firstly they give you free parking - parking is in a shared car park with a shop at the back of the hotel and the hotel give you a permit. The next positive was the location. Right on the beach front and was very easy to walk to the white cliffs which was lovely. Now here are the negatives: We stayed on the third floor. The room was nice but I would call it average - not a 4* and the bathroom wasn't great. The shower didn't work properly. There wasn't a constant flow of water and was not powerful at all, it was quicker and easier to wash my hair in the sink. The room overlooked the beach, but the windows were appalling. The windows were single glazed and when closes there was a gap - an opening, which let the very cold December gail in and all the noise from outside. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and had a topper on top, but it really didn't help. All of this in my mind is not 4* level. So sleeping was impossible. The second night was worse as there was a wedding on and the noise was just too much until midnight, but the party goers were still outside in the early hours. Ah yes the wedding. Whilst I was very happy for the couple it made us feel like a pain for being at the hotel. The restraint was closed and the bar was "closed to other guests until the wedding party sat down for dinner" When it re-opened staff were very rude and it seemed like we were not welcomed with the other guests. I had to wait 40 minutes for afternoon tea and the older couple behind me left in the end they waited that long. When I asked the staff where my tea was they said the wedding was more important. Then of course the wedding party had their music until midnight, but it was very loud and with the rubbish windows I could hear everything at night. Now I am in my early twenties and I am not fussy at all, but we were paying customers so we shouldn't not have access to certain parts of the hotel or not treated or served as well because we weren't with the wedding. Surely if non wedding guests are staying at a hotel you should be informed so you can know to plan dinner away from the hotel or even stay in a different hotel? So all of this together just made the stay horrible. When we asked to swap rooms we weren't allowed as all the rooms were taken, but when complaining on checking out they said that there were rooms to swap with. Staff didn't know what they were doing. My advice is to stay at the premier inn. It's no more than a 5 minute walk from this hotel. You will have a comfy bed and windows that work. I have never had any problems with premier inns so go there. This hotel looks fancy downstairs but the rooms and staff make this hotel a 2* at best and not a 4*.

    « Carvery lunch »

A group of ten of us went out for the carvery lunch. The restaurant is quite small but in good weather there is outside seating. Good quality meat and excellent selection of vegetables. Came out at about £20 a head with drinks and tips. Would recommend.

« Worst hotel experience we ever had »

I have never been treated this badly in any hotel. I don't normally complain but the staff shouted at us. We arrived on saturday morning. We had booked online two months before a waterfront spa night at the hotel. Since we got there the service was terrible. First they gave us a room that wasn't waterfront. Then the lady at the front desk told us we had to go downstairs to the spa to book our treatments (which we had already paid for). Once there they said it was fully booked and we couldn't get anything done that weekend. The manager then called us (Chris) and told us that it was all our fault and he wasn't gonna replace it with anything. I have never been treated that badly. He screamed and shouted all the time. He was extremely disrespectful. Didn't offer any solution to our problem. I would have expected better for someone who works at guest services. It wasn't clear at all when we made our booking that we had to book the spa treatments prior to arrival. And at no point since our reservation anybody from the hotel got in contact with us to check why we hadn't booked it yet. The hotel itself also was disappointing. We found papers from previous guests at the room, the water from the shower had no pressure and the portions at the restaurant were very small. I am definitely not going back and I would recommend anyone not to go there either.

    « Friendly staff »

The best western was a great choice of place to stay in Dover. Friendly and helpful staff with an excellent dinner and breakfast with lots of choice. The sea views were very nice and only a stones throw from the town centre

    « Tired »

Stayed for one night on business. My room was tiny, heavily stained carpet, heavily stained walls, bathroom falling apart, a shower that wouldn't get hot, a tv hanging off the wall, lumpy bed, and most worrying a window that didn't lock and could easily be opened by anyone walking past outside. I was also disturbed twice within a couple of hours by other couples banging on the door claiming they had been told this was there room. And another time by a maintenance man that I hadn't asked for and who was very rude. All in all pretty shocking, and I'm not one to normally complain.

« Family get together for Easter Lunch »

We decided to get together for Easter Lunch rather than one person having to do all the cooking - what a fantastic decision. The hotel is very clean , the staff are very helpful and the food and service was brilliant. Great location too. There was so much choice for the starter - smoked salmon , cold meats , pate , soup - we couldn't decide. The main course was superb , we had four different meats , roast potatoes , roast parsnip - four different vegetables, we noticed a vegetarian option too. The dessert table was delicious too with lots of cakes/deserts to choose from - you could even have a little of everything. A couple of the staff really stood out - Ashley couldn't of been more helpful he really helped look after my mum , she is disabled , and made sure she was happy and comfortable. He even carried her plate and got her gravy. Also Carla was so friendly , helpful and polite. We never got the name of our waiter - he was great too ! We will certainly be back and would recommend this wonderful hotel to everyone.

« Quick trip to calais »

We stayed here last night as we were going to calais for the day. The journey started with an early arrival in Dover. Even though check in was only only from 2pm, we were allowed to park our car in the hotel parking lot, we bought a lovely breakfast that really was top class and the helpful staff gave us directions for where we needed to be. Our room was lovely and spacious and the bed was comfortable and welcoming after a long walk around calais. My partner and I enjoyed a lovely time at the friendly pub and had a fantastic dinner in the restaurant. Another hearty breakfast this morning followed by a relaxing Swedish massage. Yes it needs a new coat of paint but it fits with the theme, charming! Will be back again. Thank you to all the staff that made our short stay memorable.

« Not the greatest structure, slightly makes up for it if you grab a sea front view »

Arrived for Valentines day 2016 with my partner and from the outside it looked slightly run down but nevertheless welcoming. The service manager Gayan (who was brilliant I might add) helped us locate our room which almost made me start to think the exterior was a minor set back, until I entered the room.

« Would say Western but definitely not Best »

We booked two rooms on one booking. What we got were too rooms one on 2nd and one on 3rd floor. I understand if we were asking for a sea view, that may be difficult to get two next to each other but we got the view of the parking lot. I do find that hard to believe that they were not able to do it with one moth advance booking. The room. So we paid £89 and we got the basic two singe beds. Sounds good. Well, the room looks like it is under a leaking roof, the windows were not cleaned for probably a year and the bathroom window was bricked in. See pic. Would I recommend this place? NO Reason: For the price, you can definitely get your self something much nicer in the area. Hope this helps

« A slice of Regency Dover in a time warp »

The gently sloping bedroom floors will cause amusement rather than distress. Nice to have a full size bath to soak in. Fairly quiet on the third floor but with only one lift to creak up and down in. Standard double with town view fine for just one night. Bed on the soft side. But, a truly fabulous breakfast, fish to order as well as standard English buffet.

« Nice hotel but Spa not too great »

we were a group of 6 staying at this hotel over the weekend as we got a voucher deal for a 'Spa Weekend' - the spa in itself isn't that great, very basic facilities (have to walk through a loud and cold gym to get to one of the treatment rooms and sauna) and although i enjoyed my swedish massage my other friends had varying views of their treatments - two of my friends opted for the indian head massage but had very different experiences.. one stated that they didnt even touch her head?? we actualy booked the trip as a surprise spa weekend for a friend - so wouldnt recommend the hotel on the spa alone. the rooms were nice and clean, very quirky as all the rooms are wonky (this is due to it being an old building) Dinner was not that great, over priced and we were left for long periods of time waiting, one of the desserts was a 'fresh' fruit salad - which tasted off, we waited for the waiting staff to make a complaint but they didnt show.. the breakfast was nice enough it was a nice hotel, but would only recommend if you have to stay in the area

« A bit hit and miss. Lovely views, rooms ok although lacking in toiletries. »

We have stayed at this hotel many times, and ate there often when husband was doctor in the area. The room was ok, with a lovely balcony but the bathroom was short on toiletries and the tea/coffee making facilities were extremely basic. Food was ok - we are vegetarians and one of us is a coeliac. The Dining room had been given over to a wedding. The worse thing was the chipped and dirty tea pot we were given at breakfast. I would stay again, as I absolutely love the situation of the hotel, but it really needs to improve it's basic service. When we booked in and booked out we waited ages to be seen while the reception manager chatted idly away to another guest. The young waitress was delightful and helpful during our evening meal. The staff were very mixed, especially during breakfast.

    « A lovely weekend break. »

Four of us arrived for a 2-night break using Wowcher deals and had a lovely weekend. The hotel was modern, clean and had a lovely atmosphere. Rooms were very nice, we upgraded to a sea view which was definitely worth the extra cost. We couldn't fault the staff. The hotel was busy with a wedding and a wedding Fayre over the weekend but all the staff were friendly, chatty and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice of good quality food. Evening meal was good and although there was a limited choice with our deal we could have paid extra and chosen from the evening menu. Can't recommend this hotel enough and we will be booking to stay here again.

    « Beautiful spa treat »

What a lovely place to visit! I live in Dover and have so many time passed this hotel so I booked a spa day to treat my best friend for her 30th birthday and so glad I did. The girls in the Spa were so lovely and we felt so relaxed , not to mention the amazing massage I had!! We then had afternoon tea in the restaurant overlooking the seafront once again beautiful, the cakes and sandwiches were delightful and the service impeccable. A stunning venue I would hope to have the pleasure of visiting again!! Well done and thank you so much .

Best place to stay in Dover. Easy access to town and France. Great service, rooms and breakfast. Great value for money. The position of the hotel is fabulous as it looks out over the channel towards France. The garden room is ideal for breakfast as the sun streams through the windows.

    « Afternoon Tea! »

My daughter and I visited today, 15/03/16 for a spa/afternoon tea treat from Groupon. On arrival, I was given a Parking permit for my car and shown where to park. Very pleased with that, as we planned to stay longer than the free or paid parking was allowed! We found our way to the spa and waited for an assistant to let us into the gym/sauna area. This took a bit of time as there wasn't anyone on the reception, and no bell to alert anyone that we were there? Once in, our sauna was lovely. We had a treatment each, and were left feeling very relaxed. Fruit tea and water were available in the relaxing area, which was very welcome. At 1, we went up to the ground floor for afternoon tea! This was delicious, sandwiches, scones with fresh cream and jam, a selection of small bite cakes, and tea/coffee on tap! My husband arrived with our two grandsons, and we bought them afternoon tea too, which they loved! The staff, for both the spa and the restaurant were fabulous, attentive and helpful. I will be returning with my daughter in law next time ??????

    « I love Dover »

I went to Dover with my husband and stayed in this hotel and was really impressed by the friendly staff. My husband stays here a lot for his work so they do know him but still, I found them to be really helpful and nice. The breakfast was hot, plentiful and tasty and very well organised. The whole place has an air of faded glamour that I like - we could see the sea while we were having breakfast and the bar and reception area is very nice. You get free parking in a nearby car park so I was able to leave the car and walk the White Cliffs to the lighthouse as recommended by the lovely girl who brought our coffee and tea. I had a great day. The lift is very small and I would rather walk the stairs but I appreciate some people might find this impossible - apart from that I can't find fault with this hotel.

« Expensive for what is it »

I recently visited this hotel with my partner as a birthday surprise for me. The staff were not over friendly or inviting. The rooms was quite small. And the food was average. Breakfast on the first day was all you could eat which was nice however on the second day it was made to order which has less choice. This hotel was ok however is not worth the money that they charge. Also the staff need to be friendly and at least greet guests as they come in and out.

    « Friendly and comfortable. »

Lovely room with a sea view, a little warm, but very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Breakfast was plentiful, with loads of choice and very good value. Ate in the hotel on our first night and were very happy with service and food. We really enjoyed our stay.

    « Terrible »

Alerted the manager to the state of our room, that we paid £75 for. He said he was unaware that there were rooms like this in the hotel and he was sorry. He offered us a cup of tea as an apology!!!! Very bad customer service and lack of understanding of basic room requirements.

    « Nice location »

We stayed in this hotel for one night (2 adults and 2 young children) before taking a ferry to Calais. Hotel has free parking about 100 meters away in the back (not secured). Free WiFi worked good. Room was clean. Ferry terminal is only 5-10 minute drive from the hotel. We chose to eat breakfast not in the hotel so i can not comment on food.

Stayed here for 1 night last weekend. Room was lovely and clean. Staff were helpful. Lovely walk 2 the white cliffs. Went for an evening meal 2 the local indian restaurant and was absolutely amazing. Can't wait 2 go again

    « Afternoon Tea »

Wow, what a treat! We'd gone for a late Christmas treat to have Afternoon Tea & it was amazing. The sandwiches were fur different flavours, the scones were warm & so much clotted cream, not stingy at all & the cakes, petite fours, were delicious as well. The only problem we had was what to try first. We even had sunshine beaming in & a sea view! We'd definitely recommend them & hope to visit again soon :-)

    « Afternoon tea »

Service was fantastic made us feel really welcome and couldn't do enough for us, thank you! Food was good and presented lovely. The kids afternoon tea was perfect for them and because the adults couldn't eat everything we were able to take our scones with us in takeaway boxes!

    « Horrific hotel »

Reception area done up lovely. Check in and go to our room. Walking up, bottles left in the hallways, wall paper falling off. Arrive at the room, despair is what we felt walking in. We had a room with a balcony, opened the door, lock fell off, walked out onto the balcony which was littered with old cigarette butts and chewing gum. Went to make tea in a room for two, only one packet of biscuits. Complained and all they said was we will give you breakfast and offered and equally dismal room replacement. Got a refund and left!! Staff not interested, hotel in a bad state of repair. £200 for the pleasure! No thanks! This is supposed to be 4*, more like 3 at a push! AA needs to go in and review their star rating. Will not be coming back. Unless you are absolutely desperate and feel like throwing away good money, steer clear of this hotel.

    « A great hotel to relax!! »

Last weekend we went to the Marina Hotel. We had been given this as a present and knew nothing about the hotel. We were pleasantly supprised on arrival. The reception staff were very helpful and the hotel looked welcoming and clean! Our room was clean and had everything you could want and was lovely and warm! we were supprised by the arrival of friends who had arranged to come secretly and the reception staff had kept it all secret! The bar was quite busy but we managed to get some lunch and drinks with no problem. The food as fresh and hot and tasted lovely. We went for a alk along the sea front and up into the town. The evening meal was either a buffet or al a carte menu (which you pay a supplement. We all opted for the buffet and the food was amazing, well presented, Hot where needed and a large variety! You could have as much or as little as you required and on asking we could have cheese and biscuits from the other menu for just £2oo While we were there we had treatments booked in the spa which were fantastic the rooms were relaxing and clean and the massage and body scrub left me really relaxed and my skin feeling nourished! Breakfast was again buffet style and our friends were very impressed. We also had afternoon tea on the second day and the ambience was perfect and the food fresh nicely presented and we were offered refills on our teas! To sum up If you are travelling across to france and need somewhere to stop over night or you are spending the day at Dover castle why not combine it with a stay at this lovely hotel and find out it's special history or just book a overnight stay with or without spa and an afternoon tea! You will not be disappointed. A welcome awaits you,the staff are lovely friendly and attentive and you will feel at home! (perhaps a pool would make this hotel exceptional!} I will definitely be returning!

    « Great hotel »

We would highly recommend this hotel, our room was clean and spacious with a great sea view, we throughly enjoy the food in the restaurant and tucked into a plentyful breakfast, the hotel staff were extremely attentive and professional, we are looking forward to a return trip, this time we will most certainly make good use of the spa !

    « first date »

having looked at pictures on here and then reading other peoples reviews, i was coming with mixed emotions... i altered the time for checking in time and when we arrived was told our room wasnt ready... the room is very dated and cold, the window wont close properly and the heating didnt work...

« Simple clean and tidy, bit more effort needed for bedrooms however. »

This from the outside looks an impressive hotel, your not overal spoils for choice but it's easy distance walking from the railway station. Dover over all I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's basically a huge port all built around that. It's a beautiful area with a wonderful beach and the hotel over looks this. I was relatively happy with my stay but we did have a room at the back with a rubbish view of a road. I felt most the attention had been put into the bar and eating areas and lack of attention to detail on the rooms. We were on the top floor and the room wSs clean tidy and well presented. But out dated bathroom and curtains etc. The restaurant that even offered a Indian meal offer, I however do like spicy food and had the restaurant menu and found this to be a little too fussy and fancy, nice overall but jot a lot of choices. I love desserts too but nothing interesting on the menu. Top tips....We bought a room only package and upon arrival they gave us to option to purchase breakfast but we actually went to the cafe next door (joined to the hotel) and had a full English breakfast for cheaper than the hotel could provide. We got to sit outside looking at the lovely beach. Tip... Ask for a sea view room.

    « Let down »

Stayed in a twin room recently. The room had a view - that's the best bit. There was rubbish under the bed. No we didn't go looking for it. We had to move one of the beds. The bathroom was very dated. No toiletries on offer. Biscuits were stale. Two teabags on offer. Room was boiling and the breakfast was over priced. A little tip. Don't pay for the breakfasts of staying. Nip over the road to the shopping centre. Staff are friendly and you will get a better breakfast. Suffice to say we will not be staying again.

    « stunning »

I recently stayed with my partner at the beautiful hotel which I could not fault at all. Its central to everything you need and close to the ferry port. The only thing that ruined our visit was the bar maid was a little rude. I didnt think she was professional after we had had a nt.a cross word but a miss understanding. Dont let this put you off visiting because it would be a shame to miss out on this amazing place and the rest of the staff were so helpful I cant recommend this place enough.

    « Staff were outstanding »

Staying two nights on weekend....receptionist Nikki was great...always catered for our needs and I can be awkward....all the staff were outstanding...I was looking for faults in at least one of them but they were all down to earth...perfect.... Food was great on both nights..I wanted something different than what was on the menu...and was given a different option...no problem.... If I was to comment on anything it would be the outdated look of the rooms and the creaking floorboards which were annoying at certain times of the night.....hotel staff were flawless in my view...

    « Surprise 70th afternoon tea »

Exceptional.....what more can I say.The staff from start to finish were well mannered , professional and the service outstanding. Aimee Langley the Events manager kept in touch both by email and telephone right up to the day before the surprise afternoon tea . The food was lovely and more than enough for 26 guests. What a treat well done !!!!! Kim Whiting

    « Comfortable stay »

I have lost count of the number of nights that I have stayed in this hotel over the past ten years. The hotel has undergone improvements since I stayed here last. The hotel no longer looks tired and has maintained its charm. Wifi worked in my room, Staff very helpful and friendly. Smoked haddock for breakfast was excellent. Would stay here again

« Disaster from start to finish »

I recently stayed at this hotel I booked the over night spa package for my Sister's birthday. I stayed at this hotel because I had heard it had just had a refurbishment. I can safely say that it was only the downstairs of the hotel (lobby, restaurant and bar) that had been refurbished. The room we stayed in hadn't had any work done to it at all. On check in I was asked if I wanted to pay for the room or set up a tab. I chose to pay for my room so I knew exactly what I had to spend for the rest of the weekend. I asked for a superior upgrade and we were allocated room 116. This room was very small with hardly any space to walk around the bed, and to make it worse the TV was on the wall at the end of the bed which made it an even tighter space to get around. We did ask to move rooms because it was so small, I thought that an upgraded room would be larger?? The lady at reception showed us the only other room they had available which was a standard double. It was BIGGER that our upgraded room, but it was very very hot and as there was no air conditioning we decided to stick to the room which we already had. Neither of these room were anything like the rooms they are advertising on their website which made me very angry. We went down to the bar for a quiet drink before out spa treatments when to our horror a man came over and started harassing us. He wasn't even a resident! He was telling us how we would love to kill everyone in the hotel then perform sexual acts whilst thinking about it. The bar staff could hear everything he was saying and obviously thought it was funny as they did nothing to get the man away from us and just stood there laughing. I later sent an email about this incident to the general manager and he didn't seem to care less. He said that we should have asked the staff to escort him our or called the police. I'm sorry but 2 young girls should not have been left to deal with this by themselves and the fact the manager takes no responsibility for it is a breach in their duty of care. A lovely man called Ashley eventually realised what was going on after about half an hour and got rid of the man for us which we were very grateful for. He was more that accommodating for us the whole stay and he couldn't do enough to make us feel comfortable and welcome, but that's as far as I can go with praising the staff. We found the others that we had contact with very inappropriate especially the reception team and bar staff. Overall the spa was quite good even though we had to wait a bit to be seen but we could see they were very busy. I would have been better If there was a swimming pool. The restaurant was lovely and the food was outstanding. We went back up to our room about 9 o'clock to realise that we weren't going to be getting any sleep as there was a party going on underneath our room! We went down to ask reception about the music and were told there was nothing they could do as it was a wedding the music would be on until 12 o'clock. We went away for a relaxing spa weekend to be kept awake for half the night. Surely it would have made more sense to allocate the wedding party above the function room? The bed was very uncomfortable and rickety. When we went to check out the receptionist tried to charge us again for the room as she said she had set up a tab for the room, even though the money had come out of my bank. Therefore my card declined. This was very embarrassing. I definitely would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Brilliant dining!!! »

I have been here a few times now and each time the food and service has been superb! The decor is beautiful and the location, opposite the sea ,is lovely. Afternoon tea is a must and their Sunday roasts are scrumptious. Well worth a visit for a special occassion/event or just to pop down for lunch or a hot chocolate :)

    « Returning from France »

As we live some distance from Dover and frequently visit France as we have a home there, on this occasion to top up the wine cellar so it was to be a day trip. We decided to return on the evening ferry and stay overnight rather than the long drive on a wet, windy and dark night. We chose the Dover Marina Hotel & Spa which we booked in advance. The hotel is beautifully appointed on the sea front and is historical insomuch that it was never hit by bombs in WW2. Winston Churchill stayed there. We were given an upgrade room, sea view in the morning, very comfortable bed, tea &a coffee facilities and inclusive of a fabulous selection for breakfast seated in the front conservetory, all this for under £50.00. So good we have decided to have three days there and visit the historical sites and Canterbury Cathederal, we can also use the spa all inclusive.

    « Not a very good impression »

It was a weekend trip.We had a room with sea view which was nice. Room was not cold - also nice. Dinner was nice, staff very attentive and welcoming The bed was uncomfortable and also moved easily so much so when sitting the bed rolled out from underneath me. Toilet had stains. We ran out of Loo roll. Called reception who said it will be sent up but they never brought a replacement. There was a water leakage so pots and pans were in the main entrance-Bad impression. We were severed cocktails in a honey jar. The female staff that brought it said they ran out of cups. At breakfast, they ran out of the small hard bread, we asked for more, a staff member said 10 minutes. We ate other things and left 20 minutes later, still there was no bread in sight.

« Started well ended bad »

Arrived on a Saturday to a lovely welcome. Hotel was warm and bar food was lovely. Rooms are very warm but would benefit from air conditioning as rooms can get hot and sticky. Shower curtain could also do with replacing as it was quite dirty and stained. On our second day breakfast was nice. We went to go for a walk at 9.30 but found both doors of the hotel locked, staff were unable to find keys for 10 minutes, there was also a huge flood coming from the roof into the lobby, buckets and towels were all over the place. My partner along with other visitors informed the staff to turn off the lights as the water was coming from the lights and staff replied saying they didn't know where the switchers were. Staff on the Friday were very pleasant however we found the staff on Saturday very unprofessional....... Answering their mobiles while working... Overhearing a young man speak about having a shower. And a young girl at the bar who was also quite unproffesional. Management seemed poor. If our second day would have been like the first we would have returned however if we had arrived on the Saturday instead of the Friday we wouldn't have been staying the night.

« Very comfortable hotel with character »

This is a very comfortable old hotel with great character which survived the world war two bombings. Rooms are well furnished in style of hotel. Atmosphere in bar and restaurant was one of a relaxing nature. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended for a stopover whilst awaiting the ferry

« Poor stay! Windows so old and taking and loud! »

Had a £139 offer first didn't get sea view room so went back and said the the sea view room was crap anyway small tacky old looking, not a spa without a pool!! Only has a gym with old equipment and a sauna what is the point in that! Needs a pool to be called a spa! Unprofessional people working at the beauty bit, poor stay was not happy.

Improved immeasurably since the last owners went bankrupt after it had become run down. Attended a lunch for 35 people followed by a meeting which was very good. The food was excellent. The society to which I belong has booked again for 2017.

    « Lovely Position »

For a old hotel this has been renovated to a good standard. The Gym is fully equipped with lots of machines. The position on the sea front is lovely I arrived late and wanted to watch TV in the bar but the bar food menu is very limited. Best go out and explore Dover or go in the restuarant

« Groupon spa and afternoon tea voucher »

I brought a groupon spa and afternoon tea voucher for my mum, sister and I for Christmas at this hotel. Just been today and we were all very pleased with the whole experience. The treatment we had was very good and the afternoon tea was lovely. We all had a glass of prosecco too and it was a very reasonable price! Would definitely return and would recommend.

    « Warm comfortable hotel »

This hotel was very pleasant, checking in was smooth and efficient, the seaview room was very warm and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. We had a very pleasant evening meal served efficiently and friendly, dinning room was clean and warm as our visit was in January. We used the Spa facilities although not comprehensive the staff were friendly and must say I received am excellent manicure. Breakfast was buffet style but again included everything you would expect including pot of tea and coffee.. The hotel has parking facilities at the back, a most enjoyable stay and may consider a visit in the future.

« Get what you pay for »

The bed was uncomfortable and also moved easily so much so when sitting the bed rolled out from underneath me. The room felt cold and a lot of condensation was on the window. The staff sometimes felt disengaging with waiting a while in the bar for food and drinks to be ordered and received. Which when we did get it the food was not particularly nice. On the plus side the view of the beach was very nice

« Wonderful place to relax »

We stayed at Dover for only one night but could have stayed at this accommodation longer. Set on the marina it is right on the waterfront with a wonderful view. The foyer was attractive. Our room was very spacious, tastefully furnished and the bed large and very comfortable. We had a tasty dinner in the lounge and the feeling there was comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast in the morning was extensive with a wide variety of food and the service was very good.

    « A must stay »

My wife & I had a spa/hotel voucher for our anniversary and we chose to stay at this hotel. What an excellent choice, lovely quaint hotel, over looking the channel and the port of Dover, our room had a sea view, a lovely tidy well decorated room. We had a spa treatment included, my wife a swedish massage, & me a indian head massage, wow, talk about starting the break with so much relaxation, amazing masseaus. We ate out but the restaurant here is amazing, we did have breakfast in the hotel and wow my wife said it was amazing, i cant eat as i have an internal organ disease that causes sickness all the time. So to re cap, amazing hotel, amazing spa, amazing staff, excellent food and what. Location. A must stay for anybody We will be back

    « A somewhat disappointing Afternoon Tea »

Me and my boyfriend visited last month for an afternoon tea, I regularly go to different places for afternoon tea and as this was priced at £15 per person, I thought it would be a luxurious experience. The service was brilliant, the restaurant is beautiful and I cannot fault this at all. However the food was poor. The waiter kindly asked if we wanted to not have anything in particular, I asked for no salmon. Instead I was bought mainly cheese sandwiches- too many, no variation!! Everything was cheap, the cakes were not nice and tasted frozen, the sandwiches were bland. The scones were okay, so if we return we will just be having those and opting for the cream tea. I felt a little bit disappointed as for £10 you can get a much better afternoon tea in dover!!

    4
« Great hotel in a excellent location »

I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and have always found it to be consistently of a high standard. The staff have always been helpful and friendly and the rooms and public areas very clean and presentable. The position of the hotel is on the seafront with excellent views over the English Channel and Dover harbour.

    4
« Ideal stopover for France »

Perfect position overlooking the channel. Great breakfast area. Courteous and professional staff. Very comfortable bar area. Cosy rooms and comfortable beds. A quirky building as built in the early 1800's. Free car parking. Would highly recommend.

    4
    « Homely feel »

Most problems for us is Secure and lit Overnight Parking and the Hotel needs to work on that, we tend to still park in the street and risk the Meter Maid. However, Its always a pleasure to stop at this Hotel when passing through Dover,

« Thank you for a fantastic birthday »

Spent a fantastic day at this beautiful hotel enjoying a spa treatment then afternoon tea for my 40th birthday. Highly recommend this Hotel will definitely be going back soon.

« Beautiful location but not much else to say... »

The location of the hotel is great (beautiful white cliffs & historic castle and ruins) which is why I gave it 2 stars. There is limited parking on the street. The entrance from the Marina off Esplanade is CLOSED. There is construction going on and the hotel is inaccessible from Esplanade. You must go to towards the docks. The staff was very unhelpful when I called asking for an alternative way to the hotel grounds. Beyond its beautiful location I wouldn't stay here again. We had booked the room online and were given our confirmation information. When we checked-in, they had no record of our booking. The front office shared that they would accomodate the request even though we weren't in their system. When we got to our room, we had been given a double room versus our triple. (We traveled with our child). Sadly, because the staff could not provide us with a triple room, it was very very cramped. A broken sofa bed was moved into the room to provide our son a place to sleep. The regular beds were unstable, revealing that they were merely 3 mattresses stacked atop each other. The bathroom was average and everything worked. Sleep quality is poor due to the age of the building. The lift was in working order. Staff was average but my husband felt they were rude.

    « Christmas Stay over »

Very comfortable room based in the back of the hotel without the Seaview, the uneven floors add personality to this old building. Parking very closeby. Many fascilities on offer and the food in this hotel is very good. Staff were friendly.

« Our stay in Dover »

An ideal hotel for the ferry otherwise an average hotel. Go out to eat and service at the bar not good , had to wait to be served even though the bar was not busy. There was no hot water early in the morning, the sink in the bathroom did not drain away.

    5
« Lovely old building and very obliging staff »

We enjoyed our single night's stay at this historic hotel. The staff were very helpful. Our room was well appointed and very clean, but we didn't have a view of the harbour. Our only complaint was that it was too warm and we couldn't turn the radiator down.

    4
« Snug, comfortable and real English hotel »

Thet hotel has atmosphere, reception and staff are welcoming. I had a single room, which was spacious, crispy clean and comfortably warm. Extra is the sea view. The English breakfast is sufficient, but as a continental I do not much care. Free parking at the harbour with ticket. Easy access from town by car to the main routes. City centre is within 10 minutes walk.

    4
    « Great visit »

Took my girlfriend here for a spa weekend for her birthday. Great room, Lovely view - having been upgraded on arrival to a sea facing room, food excellent and service great. Dover itself didn't have much to offer although the hotel made up for the lack through the many amenities. Perfect for a couples weekend break away.

« Christmas dinner and a stop over to save driving. »

We arrived in time for afternoon tea. The quality of the regular lunch food wasn't great although the atmosphere was lovely. Had Christmas dinner as part of a group later in the evening. It was very good, fresh, hot and well cooked. The restaurant staff were lovely although the bar staff were a little slow and room service is very limited. A twin room for £55, midweek, without breakfast I felt was a good deal and we will return (although I'll be taking my own pillow!).

« best Afternoon tea Kent »

I went here for afternoon tea and treated a friend for her Christmas treat! I was very shocked i must say. The price was amazing and the afternoon tea was absolutely delicious. We got so much of everything and it was all so fresh and tasty. The service was impeccable, our teas and coffees flowed and we were never in need of anything as our waiter was always at hand. marvelous the cakes were literally to die for. especially the scones. will 100% recommend and am actually considering taking a few more people as treats.

« Amazing Food and Restaurant Staff »

I have just returned from a long stay at this hotel and have to say i loved it. My room was lovely 320, it overlooks the sea front and was warm and spacious. The restaurant and the food were fantastic. They change their menu every week so always something different, however The Staff in the restaurant are Amazing. Didn't matter what time I went in, there was always a smile. The staff in the restaurant are a credit to the hotel, nothing is to much trouble. Its great. The breakfast buffet sets you up for the day and again if I was leaving early the staff would put things together for me to take to work.

« Superb stay with excellent staff and food to match »

This is the first time I have stayed in Dover despite visiting there a couple of times a year and this looked like the best Hotel available and got a really good deal that included breakfast so a real no brainer. The position of this Hotel is superb, right on the front with views over the channel and my room had just this on the 2nd floor so was well pleased with that. I could see my companies ships coming in and going out which was a pleasing site so great start. I was taking my customer out that evening and they had booked the restaurant here so thought it must be good and even better, didn't have to venture out. The food, drink and company that evening were excellent, not very busy restaurant but staff very attentive so a great night had by all. The breakfast in the morning was also spot on. I will without doubt stay here again when I visit next year and would highly recommend this place to anyone. Thank you to all whom I met during my visit, you made the stay very pleasant indeed.

    5
« A perfect place if one needs to stay the night in Dover »

A charming hotel, by far the best from the Best Western chain that I've been too. The place has some history too. Apparently Sir Winston Churchill himself stayed there. Not many more options in Dover - so a definite recommend here. Please don't be alarmed by the uneven floors - this is rightly a part of the hotels character.

    4
    « Great view »

When we booked we could only get a twin bedded room, when we arrived we were offered an upgrade to a double room, so we took it. We had a fantastic sea view, loverly big bath and spacious bathroom. Good tea making facilities. The only problem we had with the room was floor not level felt like you was walking down a hill, not great when your balance ain't great. Too hot, no heating on, window open and fan on and still stuffy God knows what it feels like in the summer?? Loud music till midnight and we were on the 4th floor and I could sing along to it. The staff seemed friendly but very busy, think it was a Christmas party. It done the job, we had a bed for the night with a great sea view. Would we stay again, probably not as we have stayed in The Premier Inn last time and was much more comfortable.

  • 1
    « Don't stay here! »

Really quite horrendous! Walked into reception which doubled up as a cloakroom. Christmas party activities made the whole place seem like a dirty hole full of drunk people. There was no warning when we placed the booking yet happy to take £111 for the glory! A premier inn is better quality and no surprise it achieves a higher rating than this dump! Food was awful and prices high considering the quality. A bottle of water and glass of wine cost over £10! Disgraceful, and the glasses were not even clean. « Unfriendly Dog Hotel with poor Customer service »

I had booked this Hotel on-line from Germany which said the Hotel was Dog friendly, on arriving at the Hotel in the evening after a long journey from Europe, with my small Bichon Frise dog Bibikins, who is full pedigree, well behaved, and spotless clean to say the least. " Proceeding to check into the hotel a man calling himself a Operations manager said " No Dogs allowed in this Hotel " I tried to explain that I had a reservation, and that my little dog BIbi would be no trouble at all,I had bedding for her,and she was clean and tired after the long journey. After a lot of discussions about Bibi, and 45 mins later the manager said if I paid a extra £75,this was for a cleaning company to come in and clean the room for dog hairs, and smells," future guests would not know that a dog had been in the room. Bibi is a beautiful pedigree little dog,Bichon Frise dogs are warm & friendly and really no trouble at all;she is clean, and we always carry Doggy pads for Hotel stays. " This Manager showed no compassion at all, he was quite rude, his attitude towards us was none other than disgusting to say the least. " We had a most uncomfortable night, leaving the Hotel early in the morning without breakfast, and the nightmare was over for us staying at this Best Western Hotel in Dover. The Manager should be ashamed of himself for trating Guests this way.and not forgetting BiBi my Bichone Frise.

    « Nice n cosy weekend away »

We previously stayed here over the last new year, this time my wife and I just booked 3 nights and used the hotel as a base whilst out shopping, great location, nice to come back to after hours traping around shops (Dover, Deal & Canterbury), our room was a double looking out to rear of building (I think rear, NOT sea view, which we previously had), a lovely size room, room was very warm when we arrived, but when cold snap arrived, room temperature dropped and never warmed up again, although we sort of complained about this, we understood that the room was large and took a time to reheat, staff were very understanding too, we only stayed on a room only basis, but had one bar meal which was nice, and a meal in smaller restaurant which was fabulous, we just love this hotel and all the staff do it justice with their pleasantness and hard work, great fun team, (treat them well to keep them :) ) ..

« Nice, clean, Victorian hotel with some real charm... »

If you are looking for a modern, shiny, slick hotel, this is probably not it. But, if you want some charm with modern conveniences, this is a good choice. My first impression was that the cleaning staff must care. That was proven during my stay; the rooms and public areas are very well kept. The building is beautiful, the rooms are charming. Some of the fixtures and hardware are old, but clean and fully functional. For me, this added to the charm of the hotel. The desk in the room is a bit small, but acceptable. The bed is not the most comfortable in the world, but I am rather picky about that. For most, I am sure it is fine. The food at the bar / restaurant is good. The service is very good. The health club is very good. Overall, a nice place and I would stay here again.

« A lovely position overlooking the sea »

We only stayed one night in a room on the second floor overlooking the sea (which we paid extra for, and thank goodness we did, as the view from the rear rooms is not good) The room was very clean, tidy and well maintained. We found the bed a little high as we are not very tall, but it was very comfortable. It was really lovely to wake up in the morning with the sun shining through the window. I sat for a long time taking in the sea view. We hadn't pre-booked a breakfast, but for an extra £10 you can have a full english buffet style service. The Staff were very helpfull

    « Avarage »

The room was ok. Not superb nor bad. The hotel is nice and has a really good location. The staff is friendly and helpful, no bad marks there. If however you want to have a good night sleep and don't like sleeping on an old mattress this is not the place you want to stay in. The floors give loud and weird noises and the walls are paper thin which adds up to a fairly sleepless night. All-in-all the breakfast, staff and surroundings add up and make it an average experience.

« Great days, highly recommended »

We spend a lovely weekend with my boyfriend in this hotel. All the staff members are nice and polite. Great gluten free options on the menu. Specially the gluten free pasta was very tasty. Our room was clean and tidy. We would come back definitely.

    « A good hotel room makes a stay! »

I would like to begin by saying that I can't highly recommend this accommodation enough. We had a lovely experience staying here for 3 nights. Let's outline the positives: free access to gym, fantastic sea front view, spacious clean and comfortable rooms, great location, friendly welcoming staff, free wifi access (although not great connectivity) and a lovely downstairs restaurant which provided a plethora of options with the added inventive of being able to use my taste card. What summed this place up was the fact that at the end of our stay they were happy to securely retain our suitcases to allow us to pop out for the day and explore the town further. On a less positive note, I would like to critique the hotel on the poor wifi connection on both iPhones and particularly iPads, the double bed was rather tight for two considering neither of myself nor my partner are large individuals and lastly the rooms do get very hot during the night but we were provided a fan as a consolation. All in all, a great stay, a great hotel and great staff.

« Convenient location with proper and clean room »

Nostalgic hotel in great location. Price/quality was excellent with cosy bar and restaurant. Enjoyed the breakfast . Pity the espresso was extra but £61 for room, including breakfast for two, can't be beaten! Keep up the good deals!

« Nice hotel and spa »

Had an offer deal for this hotel, was a nice break. Dover Marina even though a cold day was a nice view, food was tasty and spa was relaxing. View wasn't the best from our room but others were better.

« Nice hotel right on the sea front in a classic English style »

A nice hotel with a well-equipped gym in the basement lots of different gear there. And also a beauty spa, not tried that though. Situated on the sea front in Dover. OK room, but the rooms can be quite hot, despite it being November and the heat was turned off and the window open all night, Restaurant is good with a nice sea view of the busy Dover port.

    « Enjoyable »

Fantastic location, on the sea front. Excellent service from reception staff both on arrival and at check-out. Quirky room (with a slop) which enhanced the experience.Only 5 minutes away from the Castle. I will stay there again.

« The hotel was fine »

but the room we were allocated was like a sauna. The window had been blocked so we could only open it about 3". The room overlooked rubbish containers which were being used late at night and early in the morning.

    « Very relaxing »

I have visited the spa here before and was disappointed just over a few minor things, like no one to greet you when entering the spa ect. Have visited today with my mum for a treat and have to say what a lovely experience. Lovely staff from main reception to spa therapist (Sarah) who gave us the most lovely massage and was so nice and very helpful to us, thank you Sarah. Then to going for afternoon tea which was a great improvement on the last time we had tea there. Staff in restaurant were lovely, helpful, polite and took great care of us, making sure our tea was topped up etc and even providing a box to take the cakes home in. Lovely warm scones and Portuguese custard tarts, nice being warm also. We will be back most definitely.

I will recommend this hotel to my friends who wants to escape from the busy days in the city and get a few days of relax.

    « Good Stay »

We have just returned home from a stay here for 3 nights, we have stayed here before 3 years ago. The Hotel is situated right by the sea front, and the Port. Our room was overlooking the sea. It was a comfortable room, the bed had a mattress topper on for extra comfort although it was badly fiited it didn't fit the bed at the top therefore, the bottom sheet and topper came down the bed and left it lumpy. The shower had no pressure and had to fiddle to get any heat out of the taps. We had a leaky towel rail in the bathroom and it didn't heat up. One other thing there was no socket near the mirror for the hairdryer, so had to dry hair blind ! Besides these small things it was a very good stay, we would stay again and again !!

« Avoid if Weddings Booked at this Hotel »

The hotel by and large was very good, the restaurant in the evening being particularly good with very attentive service and excellent food. The one downside, as always seems to be the case with the big chains, is that wedding bookings take a higher priority than couples getting away for the weekend, as we were. On the first night there was a wedding but the guests behaved, on the second night however things were different. There were people outside the front of the hotel, under our room (on the 3rd floor) drinking and smoking to well after 1.30am. The final straw was when some of the guests came back to their rooms around 3.00am creating a lot of noise. Other hotels advise you if there is a wedding to enable you to change your booking/move hotels, there was no such option with Best Western. My overall opinion of the hotel, which I understand had just gone through an expensive major refurbishment, is that they just needed bodies through the door and rooms filled. When complaining to the manager were were not offered any financial compensation (unlike another chain) only loyalty points and another, guess what, Best Western break?????.

    « Dissatisfied »

The check-in staff were not attentive. I pre-booked B&B stay, but was checked in as room only and had to rectify this and was not aced upon check - in. The bedroom was not very clean - i found hair in my bed and there was weak water pressure from the shower. Room service was incredibly sow and i had to wait over an hour for my food to be delivered. Additionally the cutely wasn't clean, with tea stains on the teapot and sauce around the sauce holders. I wouldn't stay again. The only good thing is the location and the sea views.

« An excellent venue for a wedding »

I came here two days ago for a wedding. Around 70 guests. Rooms used for ceremony were good space. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food excellent and served without delays. Liked the hotel very much..seemed busy and the reception staff all smiling!

    « Great little place »

This place is small but has character and a wonderful place to stay for none night. It is also a 15 minute walk to the ferry terminal and is located near the beach so no loud road noise. The breakfast is ridiculously expensive at 25USD for what basically is a free breakfast at other motels. Still I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place

    « EXCELLENT:-) »

We visited Dover to celebrate a friends birthday. From the moment we walked in we felt very welcome. The spa, rooms, restaurant and service where 1st class. The restaurant staff even bought a birthday dessert with candles to our table off their own back which was a lovely surprise. We would definitely visit again, thank you so much.

    « Noise noise noise. »

On the positive side, the room had plenty of lighting, & the bed was very comfortable, both of which are very important to us. The breakfast was wonderful. Staff were fine, especially Ashley, Chris & Sian, who were exceptional in the extreme. Sadly there were some negatives. On the first night we could hear awful music in our room, with a heavy base beat. We imagined it was coming from another room, but at 2.55am I did ring down to reception to see if the noise was anything to do with the hotel. I spoke to the night porter (I could immediately hear this awful music when he picked up the receiver), I asked him if there was music playing downstairs, he said yes, at the bar & he would turn it down, I said don't turn it down, turn it off. At 3.25am I could take it no more, I got dressed I went downstairs meeting the night porter on the way. The music at the bar had been turned down, but not off. But that was not the problem, the noise was coming from the restaurant where the music was playing as loud as ever, our room was directly above the restaurant. The night porter then turned off all music. Peace at last! He apologised saying the rules were that the music had to stay on 24 hours a day, but he would report it to the manager as this was not the first time he had heard this complaint. We now slept. In the morning we went to reception, & asked to speak to the manager. The lady there said we should speak to her as she was front of house manager. We relayed the events of the previous night to her, she apologised again but assured us the music is normally turned off at 11pm, though the reason it was so loud may be because when they cleared up the restaurant, they sometimes turned up the music, before the night porter turned it off at 11pm, but their present night porter was a relief & may not have known to do this. Not really satisfactory but we left it at that for then. When we returned to the hotel that evening, about 8pm, the nasty music was playing. We wanted an early night because of the disruption from the previous night. We talked to Chris on reception, who was amazed to hear our sorry tale of the previous night empathising with us & again said the music would go off at 11pm, we asked for it to go off immediately, or could we change rooms. He was excellent, he knew there were a lot of guests about to arrive & did not want to cause us any extra hassle. He sent his manager Ashley to our room, who heard the music thumping through the floor. He was very helpful & agreed to turn it right down & change it for classical music, without the heavy beat. This worked & we could sleep. But he did agree some compensation was now in order. On departure the next morning, we were expecting at least a refund for that Wednesday night, but instead we got 8000 points on their reward programme, which appears to be the equivalent of peanuts, which have yet to appear on our statement.. I also expected, at some point, that the hotel manager him/herself would have sought us out & made themselves known, & talked to us about our problems at his/her hotel. This was, for us, an extremely poor introduction to Best Western.

« Lovely staff and hotel. »

Me and my partner were treated to a massage for me (an Indian head massage) and a manicure for my partner as a birthday treat from my daughter and her husband. The spa staff were so nice and polite and we were made to feel very special. Afterwards, we had afternoon tea in the restaurant which included a glass of Champagne each. Once again, the staff were so nice, polite and very accommodating. It was lovely sitting there listening to a pianist while we tucked into the lovely food. We cannot fault the lovely time we had there.

    « Great Wedding Venue »

We live in the local area but had never visited this hotel until we attended a friends wedding. The Wedding was very well catered for, with friendly, helpful staff and good food. The room was fine, no complaints and good value for money. A very good atmosphere and all needs catered for. Free parking nearby available for guests.

« Perfect location for cruisers »

This is a very quaint hotel perfectly located by the cruise terminals. The views of the water are wonderful. It is walking distance from the main train station and town. We loved our stay and would definitely return to this hotel.

    « Good traditional hotel »

We visited for one night. On arrival we were given a tiny room with a double and a small single bed. After complaining, we were given a much better twin room. Breakfast was excellent and generally service was very good. Free parking was available a short distance away.

    « Great hotel, »

Went to this hotel for a pals wedding, and what a great wedding it was. The staff here are very friendly and helpful indeed , nothing was a problem. The rooms were very clean and tidy, and thanks to a kind lady at reception she got me in my room quite early, thanks for that. The breakfast was really tasty, buffet style. The wedding catering was outstanding. There are just a couple of small problems we had, one was the drinks prices, two exact drinks changed price throughout the night, not quite sure why that was. The other slight problem was the table mats at breakfast came quite dirty and used , i think they should be binned or completely changed, thats only my opinion. Apart from that it was a great stay here with a good location and we would come back without a doubt. Thanks for a great night

    « sea view »

We had a lovely sea view in a smart family room. The restaurant was half empty as the group of german guests had just left so nice and quiet for us but the next batch of guests were expected . The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff are friendly, the food is good if a little pricey. gluden free menu available. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back

« Wow what a surprise... became a trip highlight... »

From check-in to check-out ... everything at the Dover Maria Hotel exceeded expectations... greeted wonderfully at check-in made me feel wonderfully welcome after a long day travelling. And if you are thinking of where to eat ... the restaurant "Waterfront" at the hotel is the best... fantastic service above all expectations and food that would rival any restaurant any where in the world... British but with a twist of world flavours.... When I checked out ... smooth and easy... everything was ready... one two and out the door... even having the taxi waiting to take me to the Ferry Terminal. World class service.

    « OK hotel »

We stayed here for a weekend, I had emailed before we arrived to request (and pay for) a sea view room but when we arrived we were allocated a non sea view room which was disappointing. I went back to reception and was told there were not sea view rooms available but after expressing my annoyance they did find a sea view room. Room was pretty small though. The hotel is ok, the food was very nice, and waiting staff very friendly, the location is good as right on the coast. The spa was not what we expected, we had booked a spa weekend and a massage each and I did expect a swimming pool, jacuzzi etc (although I should have checked this before we arrived). The staff were not overly friendly when we arrived but the massage was good. The spa consisted of a gym, sauna and relaxation room which was actually by the reception so not really relaxing with people coming and going. We did not stay after our massage as not really much to stay for unfortunately unless you just want to use a gym and have a sauna.

    « Stopover »

My friend & I stopped over here for a night before leaving on a coach tour. I had informed them it was a 60th birthday celebration but this was not taken on board as a very small room was allocated that was badly in need of an update. They had attempted to decorate but furniture & bathroom & lift badly in need of major renovation, considering the tariff. On a more positive note the girls in the restaurant made us very welcome & food & service were good although a little pricey for the portions. A curry night would have been an excellent alternative if we were not en-route to Europe & decided to be cautious on our choices. It was difficult to manoeuvre cases in & out with the steps ,however we discovered an alternative in the morning but this should have been more apparent or help given. Perhaps with a few tweeks this could be greatly improved?
