    « Never Again! »

Checked in to the hotel around 5 pm on a freezing cold day, only to find that the heating in the room was turned off and the bathroom radiator could not be turned on due to a missing valve. The room its self was ok, and was clean and tidy, but very cold on arrival. The shower was pitiful and could be deemed a health hazard with the water ranging from freezing to scalding and was barely a drip! We went out for dinner as we didn't fancy eating in the hotel, and when we returned, we went for a drink in the bar which was ok. When we went bed the bed was very comfortable and the room was finally warm, however, at 4:20 am, next doors bathroom fan was left on which woke us and could not get back to sleep due to the loud humming noise. I noticed at 6am the room was cold and phoned down to reception and as told the heating was not on and they would inform the engineer but could do nothing. Breakfast was ok but when I asked for sausages and beans, one sauce and dried up beans arrived. On checking ut, the young lady on reception was haughty, reluctant to acknowledge any guests with a good morning and was obviously irritated by guests checking out. I would not use this hotel again and will not be using the hotel for any future bookings for our personnel.

« Hotel far too hot »

Slow check in and everyone had different over night rates, never heard of so many. Room clean but a very old tatty chair at the desk/dressing table which needed replacing. Bed comfortable. Very very small bathroom and the shower head needs replacing, was looking a little rusty. The furniture in the restaurant is very tired and needs replacing. The breakfast staff were wondering around as though they didn't know what they were doing, the only helpful lady was the one taking the hot breakfast orders. Had a bit of a wait for the hot breakfast so allow time for this, once it arrived it was very good. The temperature throughout the hotel was too hot.

« Roof leaked onto our bed »

I have held back from creating this feedback for one week. I have tried to give the management a chance to come back to me, as promised from our complaint about the leaking roof dripping on the bed during the night. But they have not responded as promised, so I will write this negative review on their hotel. At check in, we were told that we had been given an upgraded room for the night. The room was clean, bathroom facilities clean and fresh. The bed was large and comfortable. However during the night, there was a bit of a storm with heavy rain. We were in room 257. About 0530 I became aware of a strange dripping noise. About half an hour later we switched the light on to investigate. The ceiling above us was dripping water onto the foot of the bed. Obviously from the marks on the ceiling, this was not the first time it happened. We reported it to reception on check out, and to the duty manager at the time. He said he would get his manager to contact me about the problem. 1 week later and still no contact. If Best Western were really interested in their customers, they really need to practice what they promise. Poor performance by the Stuart management team. Suggest you give this hotel a miss, as there are plenty good hotels in and around the Derby centre.

    « Excellent location. »

Friendly staff, really handy for shopping as the town centre is only a 5-10 minute walk. It was quite noisy at night with other guests banging about. No lift so you get a free workout carrying your luggage to the second floor! Be aware if you book through Groupon you get a limited choice from the menu. Lots of free, secure parking.

    « Stay with friends »

I cannot understand how guests have given this hotel negative reviews. My wife and our friends had a great time. Staff went the extra yard for us. Breakfast and dinner on both days was excellent and competitively priced. Rooms clean as were the public areas. The nearby restaurants were seriously over priced. Drinks prices in hotel only 20 pence note than what most of the pubs were charging so not worth battling the elements. Without doubt on this showing I would return.

    « The Stuart »

Just had a 2 night stay here, staff friendly and helpful, room clean and warm, just one thing if you need hot water, let the tap run for at least a couple of minutes, and eventually hot water will arrive. We may well use this hotel again if in Derby.

    3
    « Ok stay »

Used the hotel for a night after being in Derby for the day. Car park was very busy and spaces quite tight. Walked into reception to a horrible smell which seemed to have disappeared when we went back down for dinner. Room was ok, the 2 single beds and pillows weren't the comfiest but they provided you with tea and coffee making stuff, a hairdryer and a decent sized tv. We did have a problem in that the side lights didn't work which we reported to reception who offered us a change of rooms. Bathroom fine, nothing special. Had dinner in the hotel which was good, we had 2 steaks cooked well. Wine quite expensive for a small glass and were given Pinot when asked for Chardonnay. If you're not a heavy sleeper the noice from the main road outside could be quite annoying but the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the stay.

« Ok hotel but way too hot »

Ok hotel, but my room was like a sauna. I couldn't cool it down at all, despite turning off radiators and opening the tiny window. I lost a lot of sleep that night. Won't stay here again. No lift either, so had to carry bags up a tiny stair case.

    « Excellent deal »

My wife and I stayed at the Stuart using a Groupon which comprised of: 3 nights' stay, 3 course meal for 2 on first night, wine voucher for 2 glasses of wine, breakfast included. £129 - Dinner. I wasn't expecting much from a budget hotel restaurant but the dinner was excellent, garlic and honey chicken wings / creamed mushrooms on toasted focaccia for starter, beef bourguignon for main, sticky toffee pud / meringue for dessert. Menu price would be £50 We opted to eat in another night on a recommendation from other guests of the curry. Very nice (though I would guess more expensive than finding an Indian restaurant!) - Breakfast, continental selection, pancakes and maple syrup, full English cooked to order (though much as clearly pre-cooked and kept warm) Good bacon, decent sausage, couldn't fault it. Breakfast price is listed as £9.95 - Wine. House shiraz only but decent to drink. - Bar. Bit pricey, £7 for a cocktail (not worth it), £4.50 for a single brandy shot; - Décor. Nice, clean, modern. - Rooms. A bit tired but clean. We only sleep there after all! - Parking. A bit tight but bearable. - Service. Keen and attentive, generally cheery. Would definitely return. 5 stars reflects value of the deal, not the star rating of hotel.

« Operated by very friendly & helpful staff »

Only stayed one night and found the accommodation good but a bit frayed round the edges. This was compensated for by really friendly and helpful staff. Unusually I used room service for a Ham sandwich at 23:00. Initially it seemed expensive but was delivered quickly and cheerfully. On arrival this sandwich was fresh tasty and acconpanied by a tray full of salads. Good value after all.

    « Good value »

Once again we stayed here, we often stay at the Stuart and find it to be a well positioned hotel for the station (about 1/2 a mile) or the city centre of Derby also about 1/2 a mile away. Car parking is good on site with no extra charges and my only small criticism would be that the curtains were somewhat tatty (234). I know that I am being picky but that is all I could find wrong. Will definitely stay again, we paid less than £60 on a Saturday night which we felt was excellent value.

    « Business meeting i Derby »

Arrived at sunday evening directly from the airport (Birmingham) at 8 o'clock. At the reception they directly informed me that the restaurant closes at 9, so no time to take a shower berfore diner. Bar stays open until late in the evening they said. Late in the evenin!!!! 10.30 the start painting the ceiling.

    « Got what I paid for »

I purchased a Groupon 1 night stay for myself and partner with another couple we know, unfortunately we couldn't travel at the same time so we went alone on a Sunday/ Monday stay. Really easy to find, ample car parking and the outside of the hotel looked lovely. Check in was very quick and simple (no mountain of paperwork to complete like some hotels), the receptionist was very polite and gave us our room key and explained how to get to our room. The reception and corridors looked very modern so I was looking forward to getting into the room (134). I was a little disappointed when we go inside, the room is a little bit dated. Awful nets and curtains and a very noisy bed! The bathroom was a little old fashioned and when my partner had a shower the spot light was burning his head. However this room was immaculate, same can't be said about the bedroom. I'm probably a little more picky as I've been a housekeeper myself, but there was dust on the bed head (with dark wood furniture this is very noticable), something spilt up the wall and cobwebs on the ceiling. The floor and bedding appeared fine so I decided nothing to complain about, it wouldn't spoil my stay. The room was very warm, perfect for my but too much for my partner, didn't find anywhere to change the temperature as the radiator in the bedroom wasn't on but the bathroom's was read hot. WIFI is good in the rooms also, good connection and speed. My purchase included a glass of wine and breakfast each. When we arrived in the bar on the night to claim our drinks, I was asked for the drinks voucher with I explained I didn't have anything given to me, the girl spent a few minutes ringing someone else to check we were all our a drink each! Breakfast was lovely, we had a full English, tea and toast. Came quickly, was got and tasty, couldn't have asked for more really. Hotel is in a really good location for shopping and eating out, rooms could do with a bit updating for a higher review.

    « Value for money »

Ideal if looking for a central base in Derby. Rooms although on the small side are clean and comfortable. Parking on site is a bonus. We had a slight issue with the meal but both the manager and staff sorted immediately and without quibbling. I find it's how you handle a problem that's the main point so ten out of ten to Tina and staff for their help. I'd go back for another stay

    « Take a spoon »

Stayed for 2 nights here as a good location for getting to either the bus station or the train station. Short 10 minutes into city centre for food. Stayed in a single room with a view of the staff car park. Views were unimportant to me on this stay. Room was cosy not small and plenty of room for one. Bathroom was a decent size and the water from the shower stayed a constant temperature. Not a power shower but stayed hot when I needed it to be. Advertised slippers which I found inbetween the desk and wall. Had some dust so left them alone. Kettle with tea/coffee facilities we in a desk drawer. No spoon so used the plastic fork I got with my takeaway. Mini safe in the cupboard had fallen through the floor of the cupboard and had Spanish instructions. I left that alone too. Room clean and tidy if worn a little. Carpet well used and chair had a split in it. TV worked perfectly and the Wifi signal was strong. Good place to stay if need only a bed. Did not try the food or the bar but looked pretty decent when I walked passed. The menu in the room also offered room service for an extra 2.50 and so limited items available 24 hours. Some food places nearby and also a 24 hour booze place if you feel the need to drink at 3am.

    « Highly recommend »

I stayed here now on 4 occasions. Staff are friendly and the restaurant food is Great. I seriously recommend the Duck confit to start. Absolutely gorgeous. Well done and keep up the good work. I'll be returning very soon.

    « Average BW »

Stayed here for one night following a trip to Alton Towers. The hotel is close to the train station but a bit away from the main city centre. It has free parking at the back which is a bit interesting to get into or out of a space. It's a pretty standard Best Western. The room was okay, the windows really needed replacing, single glazed. The bathroom was okay, toilet didn't flush so well. Tea and coffee in the room. No breakfast included but there was a nice cafe down the road.

« Good weekend wedding venue. »

Stayed two nights for a family wedding nearby church. Arrived on the Friday afternoon, nice sized quiet room on second floor. Didn't eat at the nightime went to Mansion Wine Bar around the corner for food and drinks....Better atmosphere than the hotel dining room and similar prices but a much better experience. Breakfast on the Saturday morning was good service but on the Sunday was a disaster with some friends waiting over an hour after ordering to get served. Wedding room and facilities and service from staff was excellent as was the wedding meal. Can only complain that the room was very warm at night and had to open the window wide. Bar staff helpful It is what it is for the price you pay...and it's in a handy location near the centre of town and the railway station.

    « Great stay »

We had a short break in this well run hotel. Rooms clean, comfy and quiet. Frequented more by business people than tourists but we were made very welcome. Staff friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Breakfast large and plenty of choice.

« Average hotel with poor service »

Stayed with a few colleuges for work, parking can be a hassel, two car parks either side of building, both full, when complained was sent on a wild goose chase for phatom spaces reception thought they they could see on their cctv, then was instructed to park by their skip. Rooms are very tired and worn, had added bonus of the cleaner leaving her materials in my room on the second night Not everything on menu is available, no orange juice first morning. 3 of us dined in the last night, 1 dish was inedible, 1 dish was wrong and 1 dish just never arrived Staff are mainly unhelpful and very disorganised Worst thing was a male colleuge had someone come into their room around midnight before realising it was occupied Premier inn beats this by 1000% and there are 4 in derby, save yourself a unpleasent experience and dont book here

« Cannot recommend not to stay here strongly enough! »

Don't stay here. The rooms are small and very tired, the staff are very unprofessional (swearing at each other for example). Stayed with two colleagues...someone entered one of their rooms in the middle of the night. Had a meal in the bar... 1 meal was not nice, 1 was completely wrong and the last was forgotten about!

    « Great Location! »

Stayed 23rd September. Lots of parking spaces free with your stay round the back of hotel! First impressions was great, reception looked lovely and the receptionist was 5**** checked in around 3pm. Said we had been upgraded, but overall i was disapointed with the room, it was very small, didnt smell great and the view was over the staff carpark and bins, you couldnt open the window much at all. Just felt too small and that it needed a good clean, new carpet and bathroom. Boyfriend went for breakfast and said how good it was, smoked salmon is always great instead of the norm fried breakfast. Location is great short walk to town, westfield and the night life!

« food good poor organisation and smell »

attended for a family night away 6 of us booked dinner bed breakfast all seemed good when booked in noted they were doing a little bit of a referb on the 3rd floor dropped stuff in room and went for a wander/ shop with family came back and the corridor stank cross between rotten cheese and damp feet complained and someone did go round with air freshener but gave us all a cracking headache sat down for the meal that was well presented and tasted good asked for water and was told that the wedding function had taken all the water jugs so all had to sit there with a pint of water each (not really a good impression ) all had a bit of a rough sleep with the smell persisting but attended breakfast at 9 am several tables were set up for 6 or 8 patrons but with 2 people sat at the tables had to sit on 2 separate tables (again not what you want) overall parking good food good staff a little gloomy but OK smell bad and very poor organisation second time been did email manager and was offered free drinks when attended again for poor arrangements last time did not put comments on a public forum as felt a little petty but second attend and still poor

« First time at a best western »

Stayed here over the last weekend first time at a best western but defo not the last room extremely clean comfy bed staff excellent evening meal excellent the manager came over to us and introduced himself ( sorry can't remember his name) asked if everything was ok very pleasant there isn't a lift but the luggage can be took up for you all in all a very good stay highly recommend if your going to Derby

    2
« Cheap but not very cheerful »

Stayed on Friday, choose this as it was very close tot he city centre, thats about the only thing going for it. The rooms are very dated, it felt like i was in a 90s BnB in Blackpool. The shower was terrible, they had fixed a corner shelf in it, which was perfect height to keep banging my shoulder on.

    3
    « Just ok »

I have used this hotel a couple of times whilst I was visiting a company in Derby, once it was a £20 taxi from east Midlands airport, the other a 5 minute walk from the station. The rooms are ok but dated, and the location is very central, so good for shops and restaurants. Breakfast was fine.

    2
    « Very disappointing »

Location was good as it's very close to the intu shopping centre and the city. But... On arrival we found the LAST parking space in the hotel car park. We found that the hotel allow members of public to park there for £10 which means hotel patrons lose out on a space. Staff weren't very helpful. Quite abrupt and rude. Only seemed to be polite when checking out. We wanted to pay for room in cash and they requested another £100 in cash to secure room? Even when we offered a credit card they declined. Walls were filled with plaster from damage. Beds were squeaky and rooms were far to hot. We were lucky to have air con in our room. Although my sister and brother-in-law who paid the same for the room did not. Breakfast was very poor and we waited over 30 minutes for scrambled eggs and bacon. The table we were sat at still had dirty plates on it and no new cutlery etc. The noise from the function room was very disturbing until the early hours. All in all we were very disappointed. Will not be returning in a hurry. Especially when there's a premier Inn down the road £10 cheaper and probably more welcoming and comfortable.

    2
    « Not so good.. »

First impressions of the reception area very clean & well presented. Unfortunately the room didn't live up to that standard at best it's 3 stars. Whilst in our room somebody else walked in! Rang reception & explained that somebody just came into our room the receptionist apologised & explained it was a mistake they had sent a customer up to the room not realising it was already booked out, very unprofessional. The pillows seemed to have a funny smell and on closer inspection in the morning we discovered they were heavily stained absolutely disgusting. On the plus side the parking was great & the bar. Staff polite & the breakfast was good.

    3
    « NOTHING SPECIAL »

I have stayed in a number of Best Western Hotels and this was the poorest. There was a lack of attention to the cleaning and upkeep of the place. I may go back to Derbyshire but I will not go to The Stuart.

    4
« Two night stay for a work meeting »

Very comfortable room. Excellent breakfast although it was not available till 07:00 Very Good location as it is near the indoor shopping centre, and football ground. Bathroom was clean but a little bit tired. Lovely shower

« I wish we had stayed somewhere else »

People looking for a place to stay in Derby should be aware that this hotel caters for weddings, and in the case of a large wedding the staff will be more or less unable to focus on anything else. I think the member of staff who served our dinner mentioned the word 'wedding' as part of an excuse at least four times, to the point where I really wanted to say ' Is there a wedding going on? I didn't realise.' The reception area is quite smart, which may lead you to believe that the bedrooms are too. They aren't. The signage to the rooms is extremely confusing. If I had known there was no lift I would have asked for a ground floor room. As it was I had trouble locating my room and also finding my way back to the reception area, so I had to retrace my steps several times, and go up and down extra stairs. As I am waiting for a hip replacement this was not amusing. My son and I had to go up different sets of stairs to get to our rooms although I think they are on the same floor. I would have preferred to be closer together. As we checked in together I expected that. If the hotel cannot cope with normal guests at the same time as weddings they shouldn't accept the bookings.

    4
    « A OK stay »

We stayed at The Stuart courtesy of Tesco's points and we were early but the reception we were greeted with was professional and accommodating. The hotel is located on a major road with adequate parking for guests but the car park rapidly filled up with others attending meetings. The room was small but OK for a few nights sleep. Noise levels were acceptable. We had the Chefs special curry on the first night and what a disappointment it was as it was inedible, nan bread was cold and hard and not an enjoyable meal. The bar area was adequate as it appeared to be used mainly as a meeting place for other guests attending meetings. Breakfast was totally different to the evening meal and it was first class apart from the mushroom omelette on the last morning of our stay. Special thanks to the Breakfast manager (Elaine - sorry if I have spelt your name incorrectly) as she was both professional and humorous. If we visit the Peak district again we will not be staying at The Stuart.

« I've stayed in much worse and breakfast was fab »

Stayed here for work mid-week. The start was nit great as the car park was full and my colleague and I parked up against a fence hoping that the other users could squeeze through the gap we'd left. Check-in began slowly as they appeared to be having trouble with onw of the check-in computers, but once there was a queue, the staff opened another position and quickly cleared the backlog. The room I was given was back from the road and quiet, with a large, comfortable bed. It was nice to see biscuits which most hotels no longer provide, and the air-con unit was a welcome if slightly noisy addition. Certainly I slept better with it running than I would have done without it. The one downside to the room was a lack of water pressure in the shower, although it did the job. The bar and restaurant were clean and tidy and the service throughout was faultless. Breakfast was epic. The range of continental options was comprehensive (I helped myself to a nice healthy fresh fruit salad and low fat yoghurt which I then ruined by having a delicious pancake with maple syrup) and there were a number of cooked options including kippers, porridge and the full English with extras available. All in all, it's great value for money and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

    « Needs some TLC »

Stayed for 5 nights on a business trip, cheerfully welcomed on arrival. The entrance, reception area, the bar are all very nice, as are the corridors. I was accommodated on the 3rd floor tuck up in the corner, with the noisiest air conditioning unit know to man positioned just below my window, which runs on and off most of the day and even worse, at night. The bathroom door opens about 60% as there's a massive sink tucked up behind it. All the spotlights in the bathroom are clinging to the plasterboard for dear life, exactly what you want in a moisture rich environment. If you like to relax with a decent shower, maybe try any other hotel, or the gym round the corner. Don't waste your or your companies money here, there are plenty of hotels in the area that offer a far superior experience at similar cost

    4
    « Why? »

Overall a good hotel with excellent restaurant and good parking. Internal room meant quiet despite proximity to main road. I only have one complaint. On booking in I was asked if I wanted a quiet room. If there was a choice of roomswhy was I put in one where tje air conditioning had notice saying to be repaired. This on one of August' warmest nights. Not repoted as notice meant Staff should have known unless there is no communication between Staff.

    « Short stay »

We stayed for one night. Upon arrival we were greeted with "your too early check in is at 2pm" no hello , how are you. We were given an upgrade to a larger room. The smell was awful in the room. And would not like to see the size of room we were to get. The room was on 3rd floor at end of corridor. No lifts! We had a meal that night in restaurant. After sometime we asked for a drink. The waitress told us to wait a few mins . The dishes & cutlery stuck to the table , but maybe that was just the topping on the surface of table. We will be back in Derby on a regular basis but we will def not be returning to this hotel.

« Lovely Weekend stay at a great price »

We had a great check in, staff very polite. Our room was fab Room 258 with its own dressing area, it was lovely. Bar is open 24hrs, which we never took advantage of but great non the less. Staff polite, helpful and served us with smiles. Breakfast was really good - Buffet continental and then a choice of Full english or whatever you fancied. Really worth the £9.95! Near to the Train Station and close enough to walk into town too. Would recommend and definitely would stay again if in the area.

    « "Brother's Wedding" »

Checked in on 2nd September ready to attend my brother Stephen and now sister-in-law Natalie's wedding on 3rd September. The welcome we received was very warm and friendly and that was just the start of a great stay. Their wedding reception was wonderful, the food was excellent, special mention for the beef it just melted in your mouth, and the service was fabulous. A big thank you to Sophia and all the team for helping make their day such a big success. Can honestly say for the 2 days we stayed at The Stuart all staff members were warm, friendly, helpful and attentive. they couldn't be faulted. So thank you all and would highly recommend.

    « friendly staff »

nice hotel for the price and close to city centre. Jack was a nice waiter in the bar, he was friendly and me and my partner had a nice chat with him... more of genuine and down to earth customer service rather than a 'fake polite' approach. hope management know they have some good staff worth investing in :)

« Ok hotel, great restaurant, friendly staff »

As accommodation, it's distinctly average. Not bad, but nothing special unfortunately. Room was adequate, if a little small, only real down point was that it was rather hot (weather isn't really the fault of the hotel! A fan is provided in the room...) and the shower was somewhat weak. Otherwise what you need for an overnight business stay and not much more. What really shines, though, is the staff and the restaurant. Staff are really friendly and helpful, the evening meal I had in the restaurant was great. Likewise breakfast, a nice start to the day!

    « Good in parts »

My husband and I stayed two nights paying £99 for a Groupon deal including dinner on the first night. I had phoned to request a ground floor room as I have recently had an op and can't manage stairs. We were allocated a ground floor room overlooking the car park and it was the smallest room I have ever stayed in and contrary to other reviews on here had no air con. The window was also very small, meaning the room was quite dark and gloomy. The small window light would not open as the lock was broken, and we didn't fancy having the "larger" window open for security reasons being on the ground floor, so had a really bad night's sleep as it was so hot. There was also some sort of noisy fan/cooler unit running outside the window all night. There was a large floor standing fan in the wardrobe (which incidentally was filthy) which did help, although finding somewhere to put it in the small room was a challenge! The room however was clean, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom adequate, with large nice quality towels. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night, the menu offered three choices of starter, main course and dessert as part of the package. The food was OK,but the dishes on the main menu looked much nicer when they were being served to other diners. Breakfast was very good, although slightly "Faulty Towers" as it seemed a bit of a lottery what you got - neither of us got what we ordered on either day, nor did the people on the table next to us. Full marks to Gail the waitress for being calm and cheerful throughout though! My main gripe was that the bar and the restaurant are quite close to each other and both were playing different music all the time we were eating, which I found really stressful, a swing compilation competing with loud chart music from the bar didn't make for a relaxing meal. On the way home I realised I'd left some property in the room. I phoned the hotel and arranged to send a prepaid envelope for its return which I did, and it was promptly sent back, with good friendly communication by email from Tina, thank you. In summary, for £99 it was a good deal but I wouldn't stay again.

« Could do so much better. »

Its hard to put your finger on what is wrong with this hotel but there most certainly is something. To me as helpful as the staff were there seemed to be tension in the air - our arrival was at lunchtime our room was not ready, sat in the bar and was told someone would tell us when we could have our room, there was no staff on in the bar, eventually someone was sent to serve us, later, no one came to tell us that our room was ready, had to go back to reception and ask, its the little things that make a difference, the attention to detail. A bit later on in the bar it was clear the young girl serving had never poured a pint before. Was happy with our room - I enquired the night before arrival about an upgrade and was given a few options - non of which took my fancy I said I would decide upon arrival - they told me they would put a note on my booking details nothing was said when we checked in so I assumed the upgraded rooms had been taken - we got to the room to find we had been allocated an upgrade and very quickly a fridge was delivered to the room - I explained my telephone conversation of the previous day and that was that I would not have paid any extra for the room as it was quite small although clean and tidy. All of that said I could not fault the food especially breakfast which was 1st class, ate in the restaurant one night and again food was very nice - but it did come very quickly. All in all a fairly pleasant stay but as I say a very strange atmosphere amongst the staff and communication does seem to be an issue.

    « Excellent breakfast - but that's it! »

Booked one night to join friends who were staying 2 nights on a groupon deal. I have a BW card and we booked separately but checked in together and were given rooms next door to each other, so no pre planning of room allocations. I have stayed in loads of hotels both for work and leisure and this was certainly the smallest I have ever been in (116) ground floor looking out to the exit barrier for the car park. It was clean enough and had tea/coffee facilities and a hair drier. The safe didn't work. The shower room was also very small. Overall I would say the room should only have had a single bed in it, not a double. My friends had the same size room and really struggled with two of them in it, but that's for their review, We ate in the hotel and the food was very good. The breakfast was excellent, one of the best I have ever had in a hotel, the choices were amazing. The reception area, bar and restaurant were all smart and modern, shame about the bedroom! I was going to comment on the room size and also the safe at checkout but I wasn't asked how my stay had been, so missed that opportunity and apart from that receptionist who was very unwelcoming the rest of the staff I came across were very friendly and nice. Would I stay here again? Only if I could guarantee a better room. Would I recommend it - only on the strength if the breakfast. Sorry Best Western you could do so much better.

    « It's ok not brilliant »

Check in was poor, for some reason it took around half an hour BUT we were given a complimentary drink in the bar. The room was ok pretty standard, 2 single beds pushed together to make a double like some other reviewers have said. Tea/coffee and biscuits and kettle provided. Hairdryer in the room. We phoned for an iron and had to call twice before it finally arrived an hour after the first call. Wired internet in the room but the socket was broken so unusable. Couldn't get a wifi signal either as we were the furthest room away. Bed was comfy, air con and heating worked well. Room was clean, tv and toiletries provided. Breakfast was a buffet and full English, excellent On the whole not bad for a night but wouldn't have been happy if this was a longer stay.

star Stayed at The Stuart for the bank holiday weekend. Car Park is located round the side with plenty of spaces. Got a warm welcome from the reception. Rooms were large spacious clean and comfortable. Food in the restaurant was excellent and service very good and fast. Breakfast is very good. Lots of choices and they take the English breakfast order for you and cook it there and then. Wow!! Excellent service. The bar was very busy due to so many people staying there but a friendly service goes a long way and cocktails well made. Good location not far from the Peak District. Would stay again

    « Poor hotel »

Stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend on bank holiday Sunday room number 314. The hotel cost £44 as we got an offer I wouldn't pay anymore than that!! Rooms are very small and very poor We was in a corner room with a generator/fan or whatever it was on the back of us so don't attempt to open any windows whilst its red hot in the room, use the pants deskfan cool air allocated in the wardrobes!!!!! The bathroom was that small my boyfriend had to sit on the toilet half in half out....disgrace.. People banging doors all night on the tiny corridors. Check out is 11 but cleaners decide to bang on every door along the tiny corridors at 10!!! Never ever have I seen such a poor hotel !!!

    « GO WEST »

We spent two nights in July on a Groupon deal and found that the staff were extremely helpful and efficient. The room was clean and spacious and the bed was a proper double bed not two singles pushed together. The evening meal was substantial and well cooked and was served by friendly waitresses. The range of food available at Breakfast was the widest that we have ever seen and catered for all tastes. The cooked breakfasts were individually prepared to your own specification. The only possible problem would be if one was staying when there was a wedding reception in the hotel because the sound proofing left something to be desired. However we had no problems like this and enjoyed our stay.

« Staff the best asset and a credit for this hotel »

The hotel is in need of updating and modernising. The main reception is clean and bright. The rooms are clean, however, the rest of the hotel is rough around the edges. There are bare patches in carpets, holes in chair fabric etc. The hotel is very central for the centre of Derby, walking along the river etc The food we received was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the front of house staff to the cleaners. I would stay again, hoping that the update had been carried out but more for the staff who made the stay fab.

    « Very good hotel »

My husband and I stayed here last month for 4 nights, while attending a family wedding. The room was very good and had a/c...... which we needed as it was very hot in the UK. The breakfast was buffet and a la carte and was very good. Very friendly and helpful staff especially in the bar. Near to city centre and large shopping mall. Only problem was no lift (elevator) and we had to get our suitcases up to the second floor.

« Great room would definitely stay here again »

Me and my mrs stayed here for a day away. Hotel was really clean and tidy, room had a fridge tea and coffee facility we had 2 sofas in the room and still had plenty of room to walk around. The bathroom was clean and tidy. If i was to pick out a negative point the car park was rammed out to the point we tried to go out in the evening and it was really hard to get the car out, and to make the double bed they had just joined 2 single beds together so wen we were trying to sleep we kept sinking in between the beds.

« Very nice food and service »

Stayed for one night with a Groupon deal. Was very pleasant stay. The room on the ground floor was spacious, very large bed, comfy. The air conditioning was old and smelt when it was on, the bathroom was a little shabby but overall acceptable. The staff on book in were quick and efficient. The bar staff were very accommodating and smiley. The food in the restaurant was very delicious and the breakfast amazing !! Definitely go again. Special mention to Jordan who was very professional and a happy smiley young man

« Great location in Derby »

Some years since last stayed at this hotel, it doesn't try to be 5 star but is still great value. Walking distance to Intu Derby and easy to get taxi to and from the hotel. Breakfast is excellent and they have free Wi-Fi and free parking. Only problem is that the hotel doesn't have a lift so getting luggage to and from rooms is a mission - the hotel could do more to assist guests with their luggage.

    « Excellent customer service »

We stayed here for friends bd party. When we checked in receptions was really helpful told us where to go, first room we went in to it was hot so I look for air conditioning there was a sing ^out of order ^ and there was big damp problem on the wall ,try to open window no hope so I called reception he told me I'll ring you back and changed our room we walked upstairs better view bigger room, today my complain fridge is not working couple light bulbs need new ones room need it a bit attention such as servicing like aircon apart from that very quite rooms. Went out for cigarettes and I think manager was dealing with some drunk guy on he is bike. We was listening till guy ask us cigarettes I gave him one but manager was still cool and calm very professional he deal with it I would recommend this hotel and would like to stay again! I thinks it's good value close to town good staff good food!

    « Not 4* »

Booked this hotel through groupon. It was advertised as 4* but it was nowhere near what you would expect a 4* hotel to be. The furniture in the room was not great, the curtains were not properly fitted, the bathroom floor was extremely slippery even when dry and there wasn't a slip mat in the bath. The room wad generslly shabby. We also found someone's dirty underwear on the chair. On the plus side the staff were lovely and the bed was very comfy.

    « Business trip »

This hotel isngood for a short stop over. It's centrally located to Derby train station and the town centre. The rooms are fine. Comfy beds etc. The food was always good. I stayed on a DB&B basis and felt it eas good value for money. Full english in the mornings with choices of egg preference etc. A buffet style cereals section with fruit, yoghurt, juices etc. Dinner was a set menu which still had good choice and 3 courses to boot. Would recommend for any short stay business trip.

    « 2 rooms booked for 4 nights »

Comfortable beds, quiet at night, always got a parking space (even though we arrived late every night as we stayed 5 hours max, just to sleep), very pleasant staff, close to Derby train station and a short drive from the City Centre. Bed sheets were stained (possibly food stains) and not changed despite requesting this TWICE on two different nights. the following night the same stains were there. After the third night, I didn't bother ringing reception.

Recently had a 2night stay through Groupon, even with the £10 supplement for Sat night it was excellent value..Brilliant bar area,(pricey drinks tho), Nice restaurant, but menu was a little restricted for Groupon guests. Not far to the City Centre & loads of shopping, bars, pubs & places to eat. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble, Definitely recommend it.

    « Great Stay! »

We've just returned from a one night stay, we got a deal through Groupon for bed and breakfast which was great. Parking was free and plenty of spaces. We stayed in room 136 and although a small room it was clean and we found it perfectly acceptable. Breakfast was great lots of choice and cooked perfectly. The hotel seemed quiet and we had a lovely stay and would return when we are next in Derby.

    « Depressing and dirty »

I was not expecting too much from this stay. All I wanted was a clean, functional room to sleep in, and the location was the most important thing to me. Firstly, the positives - the breakfast was good. Location a bit depressing with so many run down, abandoned buildings around it, but close to the centre. The staff were fine. Now the negatives: grubby bedroom and bathroom - just the usual stuff in a neglected hotel; hairs in the bath, mould, cracked tiles, stains on the bedroom carpet - I was too scared to look at the bedding - run down and depressing, and not particularly clean. The hotel itself either needs a complete refurbishment, or to be knocked down to make way for a new development. That, combined with a lack of attention to detail makes for an ugly combination. Without a doubt it would be better to spend a couple of quid more to stay at one of the newer, better hotels in the city centre. Why didn't I check the reviews on trip advisor before I booked? I was in a rush. Lesson learned.

    « Groupon »

Brought on Groupon, phoned up and they say they don't accept Groupon bookings in a Saturday. On Groupon it says all week until August. Why use Groupon if you don't want the bookings!??? If it was in the small print that would be fine but it isn't

« An enjoyable stay, so far. »

We are staying here at the moment, for a weekend break through Groupon and are pleased to say it's all pretty good. The staff are really friendly, polite and helpful especially Gail in the breakfast room. Our room is quite small but its ok, the bathroom is clean and serviceable. The only problem we have is that the room is stifling hot, even with the fan going on full blast. But it is very hot outside anyway and there isn't any air con. Breakfast today was delicious, lots of pastries, cereals, yoghurt etc, as well as cheeses and meats and smoked salmon. Also included was a full cooked breakfast of our choice. The hotel is just about 150 metres from the start of the Intu shopping centre and even less to some great restaurants. So therefore I'm glad I ignored some previous reviews and booked a Groupon weekend break here anyway. For what we paid, it's excellent value. We are just off to have our free glasses of wine!

« Disaster from start to finish »

Arrived to be told they couldn't find the booking. Eventually we were given our room key, the room wasn't up to standard. Net curtains were filthy, curly hairs in the bottom of my cup, hairs on bathroom floor and the previous occupants full name address and phone number had been left in the room. We were given another room which want much better. We were blocked in the car park on the Saturday evening for over an hour making us Lat e for our meeting. The whole weekend was a disaster.

    3
« Breakfast fine, dinner terrible »

This hotel needs upgrading. The staff were generally helpful but the evening meal was very poor and staff seemed inexperienced in both the restaurant and the bar. The hotel is near the city and there is parking space available but the car park was very full.

« Clean but lack of attention to detail and facilities »

The staff were great, and the hotel was clean, but attention to detail was lacking. The room was very large - we'd been given a family room with a sofa bed, although we booked a double room. Couldn't fault the size of the room or the bed, both were extremely generous. There's no lift, and narrow stairs, so difficult to carry a heavy bag up to the second floor. The signage when coming down the stairs to get to the lobby is lacking, and we found ourselves wandering the ground floor corridors repeatedly trying to find the lobby. When we checked in, the toiletries provided by the hotel were half used bottles and an open bar of soap from the previous guest. We put these in the rubbish and when the room was cleaned the following morning, they hadn't replaced these products - we had to call down to reception for shower gel and soap after we returned to the hotel after 1am. We wanted to use the safe to store a laptop and video camera, however, the in-room safe did not work - and was not attached to anything and could be carried away. We called reception and they sent up two people to try and set the safe, but they were not able to get the safe to work. We were told that they'd have maintenance look into it, but over our three night stay, nobody ever came by. The laptop - which is a standard size (not oversized) was too big for the safe. The staff did store our items in their safe in reception, and the staff were very nice about it. We came back on our second night and our key cards didn't work - so a trip down to reception late at night to have our keys re-set. There was no air conditioning remote control in the room, On the third day, we came back and the cleaner had closed the windows and our second floor room was stifling hot, so we called down to reception to get a remote control for the air conditioner. They didn't quite believe that we didn't have a remote, but did bring one up to us. Once we were able to get it running, the air conditioning did work very well, though and the room was fairly comfortable shortly after putting it on. On-site parking is offered, but it is limited and in the evening, many cars were parked outside of the marked spaces, leaving dangerously narrow areas to try and navigate cars through. The WiFi worked great in the lobby, but no reception in the room. The website says there are fridges in the rooms, but there was no fridge in our room.

« A great stay, dont know what the bad reviews are about! »

I paid for the booking through Groupon when I rang the hotel to find out availability there was none only an executive room which wasnt available on the deal. I asked if I could pay extra because it was my boyfriends birthday and I needed that night, he upgraded me at no extra cost. Then I read the reviews on here and I was worried...I wish I hadnt read them to be honest. The room was very nice and clean, air conditioning was great very cool, bathroom wasnt very big but very clean and stocked with toiletries. We also had tea making facilities with tea, coffee and biscuits and also fresh fruit and bottled water. We had our evening meal (3 courses included in the deal) and our complimentry glass of wine. The meal took a little while to arrive (which the waitress did apologise for) but it was beautiful...all of it was very hot and very tasty. After a night in our incredibly comfortable bed we went down for breakfast in the morning which was a choice of buffet style and hot food. We both had the cooked breakfast, toast, coffee and fresh juice...again piping hot lovely food. As far as the staff are concerned we found them to be very helpful (letting us borrow a phone charger, giving us directions) and very friendly. I just cannot understand why this hotel has some bad reviews, we have enjoyed our weekend here and we most definately found it very good value for money.

« tired dated and not enough staff »

stayed here previously 5 years ago and it looks like nothing has moved on . Our room had a broken shower hose . Evidence of a leaking radiator in our room and the hall , carpet still bleached from it . Cobwebs in the light fittings ..... won't be staying here again . Pity as its very central just needs some investment .

« Not **** star, but if you can get ut for a low rate, why not »

It's definitely not a real ****-star hotel anymore, so if you expect a real luxurious stay, this isn't for you. But you will probably get a room for a really good rate, so you cant't really complain and in the end you always get what you pay. If you compaire it to a ** or *** star hotel, also not the newest, consider the location, I would stay again, if the price is low. Staff was nice. Room a bit too hot and if you open the windows it can be noisy.

    3
« Slightly shabby and tired in places »

Stayed here for one night for work and was underwhelmed . Room in need of refurbishment and the hotel is situated on a main road can be an issue. Be careful if you take a stroll into the city centre as I passed a few suspicious characters on the way.

    « Great stay »

Just returned from a weekend stay here for our anniversary and had a lovely time. We did encounter a few minor problems upon arrival but these where dealt with in a swift and professional manor by Patrik. He was polite and courteous from the off and could not have done anymore to make our stay any better, he and your reception staff are a credit to your hotel,so once again thank you. The hotel is in a great position for the town centre which is just a short walk away.the Rooms are very comfortable and clean however the bathrooms are in need of an update. The restaurant food was very nice however we did encounter a wait for our courses due to the hotel also catering for a wedding at the same time, maybe checking your staff numbers for future events would help, the staff again very apologetic and even gave us free wine while we waited. If you just want a simple night away in a friendly clean hotel in a great location this is the one,it's even priced reasonably. We will deffo be back.

« Initial Disappointment Over Stay Cut Short And Lessons Learnt »

I booked a 3 night stay at this hotel so we could visit attractions in the area through a third party website. Despite the fact I had made a request for a ground floor accessible room, the receptionist said these requests had not been passed on to them. We were initially shown two standard rooms that my mobility scooter wouldn't even fit in to. We were then told that there was an accessible room available but only for 2 nights as it was required by someone else on the third night. This meant that we spent a lot of time on the Friday searching for a suitable room to stay in on Saturday night. Despite this I believe the staff at the hotel to have treated us exceptionally fairly, agreeing for us to have breakfast on both mornings and a refund of the difference (yet to be repaid) of the price we paid for the third night we had booked. The room itself was very comfortable and there was a good varied menu at breakfast which even catered for my gluten free diet. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. I have come away from this experience learning a lesson, that whilst it is convenient to book on the internet, if you have any special requirements it is probably worth giving any hotel a ring to make sure that your requirements have been passed on to them to make sure your needs can be fully catered for.

« Good value and convenient »

I stayed for one night on business and felt that the hotel offered fair value for money and was in an ideal location for where I needed to be. It is a little tired and could do with a bit of sprucing up but the room was clean and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and friendly. WiFi worked fine. Breakfast was adequate with a buffet choice plus cooked items to order. The full English that I ordered wasn't great quality - fried egg with some of the egg white still runny, poor quality sausage, beans that had been hot held on the plate under a heat lamp so that they had a skin on them. I would stay here again if I'm in Derby for business but would probably not have the breakfast and eat elsewhere.

    « Very nice Hotel »

Stayed here for 3 nights break and the staff were extremely helpful, and the hotel was clean and in a good location in centre of Derby. I had a very small problem and the staff sorted it out immediately with no fuss or problems, very helpful indeed. Room was clean and everything was as booked. Shower had very good pressure for the water and plenty of hot water, was nice Breakfast was buffet and had an excellent choice for the continental breakfast ,also if you required full English then this was of a high quality Location was excellent for the centre with it being only a short walk to Intu centre and Cathedral Quarter The free and safe car park was excellent and of a large size so no problems finding a space, in the centre of Derby this is a bonus for sure I can recommend this hotel for anybody that wants a 4 star accommodation with a first class restaurant and extras Highly rate it and I have stayed in hundreds of hotels

    « Lovely lovely stay »

Stayed at the Stuart using a groupon deal, arrived to be asked my preference of floors, requested which was the quietest to find my room of 135 to be very quiet although they're was forewarning of possible noise from functions this was not the case. Rooms was very clean with no evidence of previous occupancy, bed was comfy and I was very pleased with it, there's was no iron or board but after requesting one received one delivered to my room within half an hour. Shower was very powerful and there was a selection of toiletries. Room was exceptionally warm due to weather and could benefit from portable fans but that is only thing I can highlight that would have improved my stay, could probably have requested one but it's was very late. Had a 3 course meal and glass of wine included on the first night which was noted to be of very high standard the breakfast both mornings was also exceptional, along with cooked to order cooked breakfast which was very good there was also an extensive continental buffet and plenty to choose from including pancakes n various pastries. The Stuart is situated within walking distance from everything and found the staff to be very polite and helpful especially the lady who served breakfast both morning. I can not understand negative reviews I was very pleased with my stay although I'm u likely to return to derby again I can not fault my stay at the Stuart.

Been coming here on business for 20 years, and not much has changed in that time, and I include the breakfast staff; ancient far northerners but kind and efficient. Short walk from the station, and the famous Brunswick pub and notable curry restaurants are within staggering distance.

We recently stayed at the stuart hotel as a birthday break for my boyfriend. We were pleasantly suprised. Lovely, clean room with everything we needed. We also booked to have a 3 course evening meal which was absolutely amazing, one of the best meals we have had. Such a talented chef! Breakfast was also lovely with food for every possible preference, staff were also very helpful and friendly. Really lovely stay, definitely recommended.

« Avoid unless you want to be robbed! A MUST READ »

I was disappointed with this hotel from the get go. I saw a deal on groupon which included dinner on the first night, I was staying for two nights and was not arriving until 11pm on the first night, knowing that's the restaurant would be closed I rang and asked if I was able to have my meal on the second night, the staff member I spoke to confirmed this and I went ahead and bought the voucher. However on calling to book the table the manager refused to allow me to book my meal on the second night, telling me they only offer a meal on the first night so people return to the restaurant on the second night!! Looking back I should have cancelled my booking before even arriving, upon arrival I was greeted by rude staff, the corridors are dingy and in need of refurbishment, the room is basic, I requested a double room and was given two twin bed pushed together. The surrounding area is rough, no nice views and does not feel particularly safe. On my second night upon returning to the hotel at 5pm I saw someone's car had been smashed in and robbed and the barrier that should have been protecting the car park was up. I informed a member of staff who told me they were aware of the car and the barrier was broken, they assured me they constantly checked cctv (but somehow missed a car break in?!) and that our car would be safe. I was told the barrier was being fixed and would be sorted within two hours. I left the hotel to go for dinner and returned to the barrier still being up and no car parking spaces left. The car parking spaces had been taken up by a wedding despite the wedding guests mainly not being paying hotel guests, this left me with nowhere to park my car. I asked the manager (I think her name was Sonia) to get people who were not guests to move their cars as paying guests should be a priority but she refused and told me to park in the staff car park (a futher walk with no barriers and no cctv, down a back road) to which I said I did not want to. I asked the manager about the barrier and she told me that someone was on the way to fix it (I had been told this 4 hours ago). I then returned to my car to see if we could park in the main car park, the manager stormed out after me and told me I had parked blocking a fire exit (I had not parked, the car engine was on and I was figuring out where to go). The manager then asked me what my room number was and told me she would collect my bags as she was kicking me out. I asked her on what grounds I was being kicked out on and she could not answer. She was sneering and laughing and unable to give an answer to any of my questions. She then walked off half way through a conversation. Ultimately unless you want to be treated like you should be being paid to stay, DO NOT GO!!!

« Room 112 is in a terrible state, raised with manager 6 days ago and no response! »

The room we stayed in was not clean: the carpet, curtains and furniture were damaged; the bathroom was so small you could not actually dry off and get dressed in there and the bathroom fittings were in a very poor state of repair; there was no TV remote; there was a glass left under the bed from a previous guest; the key card from a previous guest who stayed 6 days before us was still in the room; on the morning we checked out the shower was not working and staff asked us to use the shower in a room on a different floor - not good for £80.00 p/night! We raised our concerns with hotel staff. On check-out I spoke with the (new) general manager and left contact details for him to call or email be back; he has done neither (I wonder if he's still there??). I emailed the hotel directly and sent photographs illustrating the reason for my complaint - I heard nothing. I filled in the Best Western on-line feedback form - I heard nothing. We stayed a week ago. Sometimes I see reviews on this site where it's clear that the hotel or establishment might not have had a chance to respond and put things right. In this case The Stuart Hotel and Best Western Group have had multiple chances and have chosen to disregard my concerns. This trip was a leisure outing but my husband and I travel a lot on business - from this experience we will certainly not be using or recommending Best Western to friends or colleagues. Extremely poor :(

« Filthy, filthy filthy....and no hot water. »

Possibly the worst hotel that I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. The room was disgusting - holes in the carpet, holes in the net curtains, the bath was dropping to bits, there was stuff left under the bed from previous occupants, chunks missing out of the furniture, the windows were in a terrible state. When we got to the room there was no remote for the TV. My wife and I went out for the day and returned just before midnight to find no hot water, there was still no hot water the following morning. We were offered the opportunity to go and use another room in the hotel to shower - no thanks, it is not a hostel! Simple advice, unless you want to be massively disappointed - STAY ELSEWHERE....anywhere... Best Western group should be horrified that this hotel is using that title - more like Wild Western.

« Over priced budget hotel »

My partner and I stayed at The Stuart Hotel as an overnight stop after attending Download Festival. Whilst the location is good for guests attending organised events at Donington Park (a 20-25 minute drive with a fixed taxi rate of £22 - £25) and those wanting to go into Derby centre, the hotel is overpriced budget accommodation. For this certain weekend, I paid £140 for a double room, checking in for one night on a Friday. It is to be expected that hotels put their prices up on weekends when big events are being held close by however, for any other weekend I would have paid £70 for the same room. I wouldn't have minded paying this price if we had no issues, however we encountered a few. I received an email from the hotel telling me lots of information and noticed a point explaining that I could ring and ask for early check-in. I rang the day before I was due to arrive and I was told to ring back on the day of my arrival to see if my room would be ready for me. So as advised, I rang at 1pm, one hour earlier than the actual check in time, to see if we would be able to check in at 1.15pm and freshen up before heading out. The woman on the phone told me, without having taken any of my details, that we would be unable to do so as by this point only 1 room had been cleaned. Hard to believe that the hotel staff would be able to clean every room in a record time of 1 hour. We had no choice but to wait, so we had a drink in the bar and waited for 2pm to arrive. We approached the desk and were told again that our room was not ready and had to wait a further 15 minutes for us to get into our room. Once we got into the room we were welcomed by a very humid room, with stained walls and carpets, net curtains covered with cigarette burns and a very unsightly air conditioning box attached to the wall which was sure to wake the whole floor up once turned on. The only plus to this room was a clean and comfy bed. If it wasn't for this, and the fact that most other close by hotels were fully booked, both myself and my partner would have been leaving to find somewhere else to stay. Although the rooms were disappointing, the staff at the reception were very helpful in telling us about the local area and the free parking on site is also a plus. Just be sure to get there early to get a space.

« Stayed twice... never again »

Stayed at the Stuart Hotel Derby twice now.... not again. Our first stay was so poor that we were offered a free complementary return stay as the check in process took TWO hours to complete, there was a discrepancy between our Trivago booking information and that held by the hotel. The second stay did not improve a great deal, on arrival the rooms were made up for two people not a family. While we went out for a meal the extra beds were made up but no additional towels, cups or drinking glasses. The rooms were generally very tired, the fold down bed had broken slats, the bathroom sink was cracked, rooms very hot and the air con very noisy...... On returning to the room to go to bed we found the bedroom carpet was wet. A call down to reception we were told someone would come up....... one hour later we called down again and they sent a duty manager up to look at the problem. Once she had taken a look she disappeared to get some towels to dry up the water, she returned 30 mins later with some carpet fresh, no towels. She sprayed the carpet to improve the damp smell and covered it with the room towels. I will be back with fresh towels she said as she left but did not return, hence the following morning we had one towel between three. Breakfast was also a shambles, out of our party of six only one breakfast arrived correct but to be fair the quality was very good. when leaving the restaurant we asked for the bill but the waitress could not find it and asked us to sort it with reception, surprised to say they had no record of us eating hence nothing to pay.......embarrassing for the senior duty manager but their loss.

« Nice hotel, good location »

Stayed at the hotel in June, room was nice with a big comfortable bed. Had breakfast in the morning which had a good selection and quality of items. Used Tesco Clubcard payment scheme so exceptional value for money.

« Do not go here »

Checked in an executive room and was told to pay for my breakfast when it should be included. I got to my room and there was someone else hair in the bathroom, there was dust on the top shelf of the wardrobe, the king size bed was made up of 2 single beds with 2 mattresses zipped together and you rolled into the gap at night, the air conditioning was noisy. The food that came out tasted like it was warmed up and bought from farmfoods Would not stay ever again

« A Lot of Make Up Covering Wrinkles & Warts »

We were staying at The Stuart as a half way stop for travelling. After a 4 hour journey we arrived at what appeared to be a very pleasant hotel. The foyer and restaurant entrances were decorated to a very high standard. It's just a shame the rooms weren't the same. We were on the second floor, and with torn knee ligaments I was disappointed to learn there was no lift. When we eventually found our room we were extremely underwhelmed. It was small, tired looking and in need of a very good clean. Numerous dirty marks on walls and doors gave it a grubby appearance. The bathroom especially was tiny, with the door only opening 3/4s of the way due to the sink being directly behind it. It's obvious people have tried their hardest to open the door further due to the patched up holes in the back of the bathroom door. We were left a little gift of the previous occupants socks on the floor, and a couple of silverfish had decided to move into the bathroom which was cosy. But the most irritating bit for us was the constant noise from the huge air conditioning fans below our window. When we complained we were told they were just being turned off. Ok we thought, peace at last, and then we realised the hot water tank for every room around us was situated right next door, therefore every time anyone took a shower or bath, that kicked in and was all you could hear. All in all a thoroughly disappointing stay.

« Would not go back »

I was really disappointed with the hotel. Room - clumps of last persons hair on the carpet, room tiny and sooooo hot! Bathroom - worn, tired and lots a damage Breakfast - disgusting...cold items were warm and sweaty and hot items were cold. Breakfast was not as requested. Staff - friendly Wouldn't return to the hotel!

« Single night stay near the city centre. »

Our one night stay at this hotel was pleasant. The bed was comfortable and we found the location ideal for shopping and eating out. It was nice to see weddings taking place at the hotel. Downsides would be that the room was very small. The bathroom-tiny. The door of the bathroom doesn't open fully as it hits the sink inside. Only one person could walk through into the bathroom at a time (bearing in mind I'm slim and so is my partner.) The cups weren't clean but I washed them myself- didn't see a need to complain. Other than this, an average stay at an average city hotel.

« EXCELLENT LOCATION AND ATTRACTIVE, COMFORTABLE RECEPTION AND BAR AREA »

bed was too hard. My friend and I were issued with insufficient number of towels. However, it was a pleasant stay and I would consider staying there again. Please be more generous with towels as ladies need extra towels for hair etc.

« Good value, clean, comfortable. »

After reading reviews I was worried what I would find but the room and bathroom were clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection to suit all tastes. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is not a luxury hotel and location is convenient not pretty. It is ideally located for CAMRA members wanting to try out the wide range of real ales in the city. Close to the city centre shops, tourist attractions and railway station. Well worth the price.

    « Best Avoided »

Could do better, and not worth 4 stars. Appears to be popular with contractors but I would not recommend it to single, female travellers. It was difficult to park as there were 15 vans in the car park, the WIFI didn't work in my room, the curtains had to stretch to fit the window, the settee was saggy, the carpet was stained and the "double" bed was 2 singles pushed together with a gap in the middle. The room was clean, it was just a bit tatty and tired and it is not somewhere I would stay again. On a more positive note, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent, but not enough to redeem it overall I'm afraid.

    « very comfortable stay »

We have stayed here previously so didn't hesitate booking in again for the evening . As we thought it was a lovely, warm, clean and comfortable room and the staff was very friendly . We both slept really well. A great added bonus of staying here is the free parking . We didn't use the restaurant on this visit, we have done so before and was ok, but on this visit we went just a small walk away to a Mexican restaurant "wow" another place we will recommend as it was delicious. Will definitely return again to the hotel as it is perfectly situated and only few minutes away from all Centre of Derby we will also recommend to our friends if they are wanting a good quality friendly hotel to stay.

« Lovely Hotel. Great Location. »

If you are travelling to derby and you are wanting to have a nice hotel on a budget then this is the perfect hotel. This hotel is located a 5 min walk from the centre of derby and has recently been renovated to a very decent standard. There is minimal car parking so I would suggest getting there early to guarantee a space there.

« Great staff and very clean »

Stopped for the night with a three course meal and a glass of wine included. The meal was excellent. The hotel was clean and the staff were very pleasant and extremely professional. The room had just been decorated. The room was small which was the only fault but for what i paid I can't complain. The breakfast selection was one of the best I've seen in any hotel and the cooked breakfast was one of the best I've had beating many of the top hotels I've stayed in as it was cooked to order so was fresh and hot. I'd be happy to stay again

« OK but rooms need careful selection »

This was my first stay at the hotel its been going through I would assume a refurb, my room was good as far as fitting and furniture is concerned. the bathroom had been modernised but I think they missed a trick with the layout, it had an undersize bath which the sink over hung which made having a relaxing bath a challenge. if they had moved the toilet closer to the wall and put the sink next to that they could easily have fitted full size bath and hence a better bath room however it more or less works. I went down early for a drink from the bar but had a really long wait as the receptionist was doing the bar and reception and there were a few people checking in, more staff would have helped there. My biggest grip was the room and its location. I had room 255, this room I discovered was above the kitchen area, although you could not hear the kitchen works you could however hear the extractor fan and it was obtrusive. it came on at about 6.00pm and it was noisy enough that the telly had to be on quite load the cover the noise. They did offer a room change but as I was going out for a meal and they said it would go off later I said I would see when I came back. I returned at 9.45 to find it still going and again they did offer a room change but also went to the kitchens to check. it finally went off at 10 ish. so not too bad and thought no more of it until 6.00am when back on it came. Anyway the sort of it is make sure if you are noise sensitive and like and early night with a lie in you avoid this room. I would also suspect the rooms either side may well get some of this too. I did not eat in the restaurant in the evening or breakfast so cant comment on the food. overall not a bad place service and staff generally ok. don't think I would want to spend many night here though. Good location as other have said and barrier parking free to guests

    « one night stay »

arrived just before 3pm. only 2 of our rooms were ready which was rather disappointing. Rooms were basic but clean and tidy. Reception staff were very pleasant. Hotel really close to the intu centre, plenty of shops to look around and places to eat. A 10 minute walk from train station which was another bonus. Room - mini fridge, safe, hair dryer, hangers etc. tea/coffee facilities. bed was really comfortable. Bathroom - shower pressure wasn't that great. towels were so so. Our room didn't have any mini toiletries but the other 2 rooms did. The BIG disappointment to this place was that some sort of music event was being held in the function room over the weekend, which we weren't informed about when booking the hotel. The drumming started early evening on Saturday, we left about 11pm that night and it was still going on. We were woken up on Sunday morning before 9am to more drumming !! The function room was under our rooms, we were not happy to be woken so early !! the response from reception when we complained wasn't very apologetic Not sure if we would stay again.

« Great value for money »

We needed a central hotel at a reasonable price. Nice reception area and yes the rooms are dated however very clean and had everything we needed for two nights. The real bonus of this hotel was the lovely staff from check in/out, bar, resturant and housekeeping all smiley friendly and made us feel very welcome !!!! Special thanks to the girl behind the bar who usually works in the resturant and was practicing her cocktail making skills, well done !!! Very noisy through the night but we after all are in a city centre hotel on Saturday night so not a fault of the hotel. breakfast buffet average. Overall a good choice for a budget hotel in a great location. Would stay again.

    « Ok for 1 night »

Stayed here for 1 night. The room was ok but needed a lot of TLC, marks all over the walls, TV remote not working. Bathroom was clean. Didn't dine here so can't comment on the food. Staff very friendly. Hotel convenient as situated near town centre.

« My last review was "Hotel in two part" »

The reason was the front of the hotel was bright, modern and clean . Once past this then the rooms were requiring a bit of love and some had the that old age smell, on this visit I got a room which was updated and I was very impressed with it,it had all the bits required for my stay. In the bar Sky sport was available which was a nice surprise. Food in the restaurant, can't comment as never bothered to eat in it. Breakfast was slow with only one member of staff running around , but nice.Car park to the rear which you need a token to exit which reception don't bother to tell you , so you have to return to get one. Diamond member but have never been upgraded even when I've asked.Check out better than booking in ,but was early.

« Poor experience at a disappointing hotel »

I usually try to take reviews with a pinch of salt, particularly when travelling on business for short periods of time. For that reason I decided to ignore the negativity on TripAdvisor and picked the Best Western Stuart Hotel for its convenient location. Big mistake! From start to finish, I struggle to find positives about this hotel and my experience. Firstly, my room: tired, smelly and unpleasant. Dirty net curtains, old windows (that did nothing too block the unbearable noise of air conditioning units situated outside), loss of power, a bathroom so small the door doesn't fully open, stains all over the furniture, hairs in the shower (which had no pressure).... You name it, this hotel probably had a horror to show. General: very slow (but free) wifi throughout the hotel, poorly staffed breakfast room. Unattractive continental breakfast buffet (that every guest avoided), slow service and generally tired furniture and facilities. It's not all bad though...... Checkout was very fast! But maybe that's because the staff couldn't be bothered to ask if I had a nice stay.

    « Be ware! »

Stayed for one night never again. Checked in enquired if any room upgrades available via my Best Western diamons for life card. Was advised I had already been upgraded. Room very very basic if this was an upgraded room would hate to see a basic room. Waited 10 mins for hot water to have a shower! Bed very uncomfortable strange smell off the pillows not sure they were clean. Be ware when I checked in I was charged for my room. When I went to pay my extras this morning food they tried to charge me for my room again. Only because I challenged did I save myself paying twice. Note other guests have reported similar issues check your bill!! On the positive side food was OK ate both breakfast and dinner. Not sure car park is secure exit via a barrier and token system. Car in front exited barrier stayed up to allow me out. Would I stay here again - NO . Glad it was only 1 night. I travel a lot with Business and don't like writing negative reports but this place is seriously not good. Manager did apologise but I heard lots of people complaining about various things only to be met with hollow apologies. Be ware!

    « Never again »

I was only here for 1 night, can't believe how bad it was. When I walked into my room the heat was unbearable, all the radiators were on full this was after two really nice days weather wise. I switched them off and didn't think much more about it. Pop down to the bar for a drink and they are training a new bar man, he was really good and had a laugh with him we all have some new staff from time to time. I then went to the restaurant for a meal! Walked to a table expecting to be able to order something to drink before I looked at the menu, waitress says she will be straight back. 10 minutes later I get to order food and a drink, 20 minutes later I'm still waiting for my drink some gentleman who had been making calls and working on his lap top for the evening approached once I had complained to the another waitress about waiting so long for a drink apologised asked what wine I wanted and went off to get it sorted. Some 5 minutes later yet another waitress arrived with a bottle of white wine, I'd ordered red so another wait but we got there in the end albeit not the wine I ordered. Onto the food. I ordered crispy duck it was not crispy at all however it was quite nice. Mains, chicken curry! It was rancid vinegary naan bread was like something from asda popodoms were stale. I didn't bother and just decided to call it a night. The general manager of the hotel came and asked what was wrong so I explained how my evening had been from the radiators in my room to the food and time waited, she apologised and went on her merry way... Oh she's back, only to explain I could not be right about the radiators as all the boilers were off, I told her I knew what a hot radiator felt like she said she would check. After a 10 minute wait for my bill I just walked out of the restaurant and straight up to my room and a call from the general manager again tell me she was confused as she had double checked and all boilers were off. I switched the radiator back on and walked to reception to get her to prove I was indeed not a lier like she was making me out to be, get back to the room and yes it is hot! So I had to sleep with all the windows open on a very busy street with cars and bikes racing up and down until the early hours of the morning! It's safe to say I didn't try my luck with breakfast I though it best to just go without, I had a meeting at 10 and didn't want to be late. The rooms whilst hot and very very dated were nice and clean. Won't be back

    « Great service ! »

We had booked a room and had to cancel it for personal reason just a few days before coming to stay and the hotel kindly confirmed cancellation with no charge at all as we did book directly with them. We really apppreciate the gesture and will for sure come and stay there soon.

« A cracking hotel to stay at »

This is the first time I've used The Stuart Hotel in Derby. Needless to say, I'll be back. The rooms were very comfortable & spotless, breakfast was freshly cooked rather than sitting under hot lamps on a buffet counter & the bar/lounge is very comfortable to relax in. As I had my two dogs with Me, we couldn't dine in the restaurant so our breakfast was served in the bar.

    « My Experience »

An excellent stay the room was clean The staff were friendly, request for extra pillows was dealt with. The food was exceptional. Compliments to John the chef and Gail the breakfast hostess, nothing was too much trouble. Buffet was beautifully presented and the food was delicious. Also bar menu was delicious.

« Some good, some bad. Expensive for what you get. »

First room. Yes, clean and tidy except cleaners took away our favourite shower gel before it was empty. Unusually we could adjust TV settings to get a decent picture even if the TV is long in the tooth. Street facing twin room noisy in morning but comfortable beds. Has a full length bath which was enjoyable after a stressful drive getting there. Restaurant. Needs serious attention. We waited an hour to get our main, "sorry, is new chef alone", excuse. Next door table waited 90 minutes! Quality was acceptable and as requested, (we are on LCHF diets). Wine silly expensive, e.g. Tesco £5, hotel £21. We don't mind the wine being more expensive but that is an almost criminal mark up. Second night was group dinner for ~40 people with a marked difference in service and quality - much improved and enjoyable with plenty of attentive staff. Would we stay again? Most probably not. When we booked they wanted payment for room and group dinner some two months before the booking. On arrival no meet & greet just a receptionist who demanded £100 up front before allowing us in, which I have never seen before. A checked credit card has always been sufficient.

« Good value but dated »

Conveniently located within walking distance of the centre of Darby and all it offers, with on site parking. Greeted by friendly reception staff. Rooms can be quite a walk and are compact but functional. Some might say this hotel is a little dated and could do with a little TLC. Still good value for money.

    « Pleasantly suprised »

I was a witness to a crime and the CPS booked both myself and my partner in at the Stuart Hotel. I was given a food and drink allowance for myself but my partner had to pay. We were given a very warm welcome when we arrived and the manager was on the front desk when we arrived. Our room was basic but very nice and clean, more than adequate to suit our needs, plenty of power points for us to charge our phones and iPads etc. We are both lovers of our cups of tea so whenever we ran short we just rang down to ask for more and they were bought up very quickly. We went down for breakfast and were greeted by warm and very friendly staff that could'nt do enough for us. I was very nervous about going to court so did'nt really fancy any of the wide variety of choices for breakfast. If I ever get the chance to stay again I am definitely going to make sure to work up a huge appetite to sample as much as I can of everything. There was some demolition work going on across the road from the hotel and we were curious to find out what was happening so asked the lovely staff which were very happy to stop and have a chat with us. I take my hat off to all the staff both front of house and behind the scenes as they kept any disruption and mess to a minimum which must have been a mammoth task. I've also been to the Stuart hotel once before for a wedding and that was a lively experience also, although it was quite a few years ago. I would definitely recommend the Stuart to any of my friends. I've read other reviews and think some of the issues are petty and I appreciate we are all entitled to our opinions but if you want first class accommodation then find somewhere that offers it and pay the extortionate prices. However if you want to receive friendly, somewhere warm and clean to lay your head go to the Stuart.

« Good location - shame about some facilities »

On arrival on a not too hot day, check-in was very efficient and well managed. Our room was far too warm and the windows a bit small to allow for additional cooling even after the radiator had been turned off. The room was reasonably comfortable and very clean. We dined in the restaurant on the first evening. Very few people. The room was not very welcoming and, as it was quiet, there was very little atmosphere. The food was warm but not up to the standard I would have expected. The potatoes had not been trimmed and had small bits thta should have been removed. They were also overcooked. Breakfasts were fine. A good selection and attractive. The smoked haddock was nicely cooked as was the kipper on the second morning. The dining room service was variable and could be improved.

The hotel is fine for a 1 night stay. Rooms basic but clean, quiet and comfortable. For the price we paid, we are happy guests. Breakfast was ok, a little more quality would be nice. New furniture is needed, but the staff are friendly and the service is good. Check in and out was quick. On return to the hotel after our evening out, a strong smell of cannabis came from a room, but no where near us.

    « Never again! Room 255 »

My friend and I booked last min as we were on a night out in Derby and didn't want taxis etc. My friend checked in before me and had 3 room changes, first room smelled bad of cigarette smoke, 2nd room none of the lights worked, 3 room was good. I arrived and I just gave my Car Reg at the front desk, on approaching the smell of body odour was overpowering and I couldn't get out of there and to our room quick enough. Yes I know body odour is not an issue with the hotel but it's still first impressions and surely another staff member should have pointed out subtlety that the staff member needed to address the situation, also the receptionist in question was not very welcoming.. On returning to the hotel around 3am we could hear the above room going at it hammer and tongue!! Again not an issue that the hotel could really do much about. Some kind of generator/boiler intermittently banging till check out, my friend and I both recorded the banging (the boiler not the sexy couple upstairs) as it was bad. We checked out and told the receptionist about the issues, he said sorry, we'll get maintenance to look at it asap, he also said he'd get a Manager to call us. My friend paid £49.00 for this experience, it was bad from start to finish.. I've not looked at any other reviews yet but I'm pretty sure if this is the service most guests receive they won't be good.

« MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BED I'VE EVER SLEPT IN! »

Wanted a budget hotel for one night...so was very last minute...never again...staff were unhelpful except for the young man who checked us in...single bed was more like a child's bed...roll & you'd fall on the floor!! Every time somebody flushed the toilet there was a loud 'fan' sound in our room which woke me up throughout a very restless night. The only positive was the price I paid for the room...other than that avoid!!!

« Value for the city centre siting and the bedroom »

But bathroom needs redesigning, shower rail in very poor position leaving only a 12" access to the 3/4 bath, the safety handgrip rails were totally in the wrong position giving NO help of support when stepping out of the bath when the bath is wet and slippery. Breakfast service was a total shambles on both mornings as grossly understaffed. Bedroom was beautifully appointed, large and comfortable with all amenities. The town centre siting of this Hotel cannot be faulted, 5 mins gentle stroll to the huge IntuDerby shopping centre and other entertainment and restaurants/bars/shops

    « Good value - short stay »

Stayed one night during the Easter period. The location & room pricing of this Hotel were excellent. The Room was clean if a little dated & on the small side. Very real care had to be taken when getting into the bath / shower - as the bath sides are high & the grip rails are not ideally located.

« Horrific - Rude staff - Misleading costs - do not stay here »

When we first turned up here there were a group of people in the car park who looked as though they had taken enough drugs to supply Derby which put us on ease leaving the car. When we arrived at the hotel we were ordered by the receptionist they needed £100 from me when I had already paid for the room. She then said she needed me to enter my pin to get my card details in case there was any damage - £100 came up on the card screen so i pulled my card out and asked her is this money going to be taken from my available bank balance they said no So i entered my pin- as soon as i got to the room i called my bank and £100 WAS taken from my bank - i went to reception and the rude lady now explained IT WOULD come from my bank AFTER i had put in my pin so this was VERY mis leading she lied to get me to pay, She then said the money would return to my bank once i checked out. We ordered room service £5.75 for a cheese sandwich this was not edible, the cheese was tangy and clearly off - we also had a jacket potato with beans , the potato was white all through rock solid with COLD beans, it was DISGUSTING. I had enough by this point and decided to check out and not stay, Upon check out i AGAIN asked the lady will the money be returned to my bank right now before i leave, she said YES. Again she had lied because it was not returned to my bank, i called the following morning to ask where my money was she said she would call me back when she looked into it. NOT TO MY SURPRISE she did not call back. I then checked my bank the following day, NOT ONLY had the money not been returned they had charged me TWICE for the room stay!!!!! I had paid VIA hotels.com yet the hotel decided they were going to charge my card AGAIN, I called the hotel who advised i had approved these charges by entering my pin for £33.66 WHICH I DID NOT DO! Very rude he asked if i was part of the couple who came and complained about the same problem with my drunk boyfriend, We had no had one drink so you can tell how gossipy there are here discussing us when we walk away. THEY ARE USING SCHEMING LIARS. DONT STAY HERE !!!!!!! The 'Double' Room was smaller than my own bedroom at home the bedding was filthy and the bathroom was toddler size. Overall this stay was horrific and RUINED my stay with my family.

I booked this last minute for the same night. I really expected this to be a old run down hotel for the price I paid, but I was really shocked to find the room rather nice and quite modern. Only downside was corridors very noisy you can hear everyone walking down them

Nice stay for 1 night here. Good customer service following a small mishap (room had no bath as requested but reception sorted this out straight away for us). Perfect location as is a 5 minute walk from derby intu centre.

« Good Service let down by rooms »

The service in this hotel is as I'd expect from BW but the rooms need a complete over haul. There wasn't enough room to swing a kitten, never mind a cat, in the minute bathroom and the temperature of the radiator in there made it unbearable.

    « Not so best »

Me and my partner stayed in the Stuart for a short stay and on arrival the reception and bar area are nice, its only when we went to our very small 12x12 room we where disappointed. The rooms are in need of tlc with old wooden windows a shower head that fell off and doors painted with emulsion so come Best Western improve these rooms and make this a decent hotel.

    « winter ales festival »

I stayed at the Stuart in February while in Derby for the winter ale festival I had a single room it was very clean and up to date. the room was cleaned daily and was great also the staff were very friendly. only issues I had was the Wi-Fi was very intermittent and the showers are very small

Dingy hotel with grubby decor. On lifting the toilet lid in my room I was faced with the previous occupants faeces. I then asked for the bathroom to be cleaned properly. Food was overpriced and under whelming. Would not recommend this hotel and am surprised it's a Best Western. Needs investment.

    « Room was ok »

I went up with my brothers and stayed overnight on March 2. I was welcomed and given the key to my room. The room had a stale ordour. Kinda of smoke smell. It was small. The bathroom was clean. I bought my own slippers as they had none. There was a damp patch in the bathroom and I could hear other guests. The Internet didn't work for me it wouldn't connect. Staff were helpful. Didn't eat there but used the cafe next door for breakfast. It was ok overnight. Good power shower.

    « Quite poor actually »

Not great at all. To be fair I wasn't expecting a 5* break experience for the price of the room but I still think this was poor for the price. Apart from looking at a hotel from the outside, your real first impression is when you walk into reception and check in. I was almost taken aback with a very strong smell of body odour from somebody behind the reception and greeted with a very monotone and dull welcome. I was given my key and pointed in the direction of my room. The room was small but clean. The room was single glazed and on the ground floor so was quite noisy which wasn't too much of an issue but it was unbelievably cold. I turned the radiator on full blast, left for some food and thought it would warm up by the time I got back. I get back to the room 2 hours later and it was still freezing. I called reception to ask if I was doing something wrong. To his credit the man came to help very quickly and realized that the radiator wasn't working. I was offered a portable electric heater. I actually think he was expecting the complaint with how quickly he came to the conclusion and how quickly I was delivered an electric heater. Woke up in the morning to have a cold shower. No hot water. I can only assume this was related to the boiler works that was stopping the heating from working. When I booked the hotel it said on the site under room description that it would have : Air conditioning - It didn't. Coffee/Tea maker - It didn't. Shower / Tub combination - It didn't. Just a very small shower cubicle only. slippers - It didn't. Free WiFi - debatable. In room safe - with foreign instructions, half peeled off. Unfortunately I will not return to this Hotel and will advise my colleagues and friends/family to avoid.

    « Compact room »

This is my fourth stay at the Stuart hotel and probably not the best room I have had. Room 214 is a single room and very 'single'. The bed was comfortable but the sheets only came up to my chest and I am only 5' 8". So if you are over 6' please ask for a bed extension! The wardrobe wobbled when I closed the door and inside was a discard electric heater. Still a good location but not a very nice room!

« Lovely hotel, friendly staff »

Had a one night stay here for work and nothing was a problem. The first room I was in was cold and after speaking to reception and duty manager was moved rooms and upgraded. Large hotel, modern and bright after I'm guessing a refurb recently. Very close to Derby Midland station as well as the Westfield (Intu) Shopping Centre and main city centre. Decent rates and nice comfy room. Bathroom was large with bath and shower. Would come again.

    « bad internet connection »

i did not recommanded this hotel, the room and the bathroom were too small and the internet connection was bad. for the location it's ok you can find some restaurant close to the hotel. i went many time in the best western in france, belgium but they were totally different. The price of this hotel is very expensive. If you want to book an hotel at derby go to holliday inn in the city center, it 's a very nice hotel

« Not Worth the Price »

I paid £64 for a very tiny double room at The Stuart when away on business. On arrival I had a suitcase, a laptop bag and a handbag which I was clearly struggling with but the front desk staff didn't offer to help with my bags or even show me where the room was on the top floor which I thought was a bit off. I was surprised by the size of the room but it had everything I needed so I was happy enough. I did however then spot some of the rather neglected fixtures and fittings. For example, the end of the curtain runner was held together with sellotape, both bedside lamp shades were falling apart with holes in and one didn't even work so I had to call reception to come and fix it. The bathroom was pretty shabby as well and the shower head had no power whatsoever so was pretty useless. The whole room just felt very uncared for and not worth the money whatsoever. At breakfast the next day, when ordering my food, I double checked with the lady serving whether the cooked breakfast was any extra and she said it wasn't. However I was charged nearly £10 on checkout for the meal, which was again not worth the money - the sausages were cheap and gristley, I had to leave them, not a nice start to the day! When working in Derby again I will be looking to stay elsewhere as I just felt that this place was overpriced, run down and lacking in soul.

« Noisy room with uncomfortable bed. Good location. »

Stooped here while on a night out with the lads In Derby. Location is good as it's close to the city centre & the train station. Free car parking is also a welcome treat. The hotel is clean & modern & so are the rooms. However being on a main road there was noise from traffic. Also you can hear noise from the other rooms which isn't very private. My bed was really uncomfortable too & I didn't get much sleep. A couple of my mates said theirs were too. Shower was nice and stocked with good toiletries. No tea & coffee either was is disappointing. Probably wouldn't stop here again if I could get one nearby for a similar price but for the price & if nothing else was about then I'd probably book again.

« Dismally poor hotel and staff »

This is the second time I have had the misfortune to stay at this hotel. The room was small, while the decor was modern, the bathroom facilities were poor. The toilet is place in a tight corner, meaning sitting on it is near impossible, being wedge between the sink and the radiator was far from ideal. Due to this the bathroom remained cold, otherwise I may have had to peel my leg off the radiator... At breakfast the staff were slow, on check out the manger was miserable...

« Poor accommodation, small car park, wouldn't chose to stay here again »

The room is quite small - the bathroom is very small. The room is also dark and I can hear people talking on the phone 2-3 rooms away. I can connect to, but not seem to use the WiFi, nor can I use the wired Ethernet connection - I finally managed to connect the cable as the socket was broken and protruded back behind the faceplate, but it doesn't connect to a network. The car park isn't very large - I arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday and got one of the last spaces - the spaces are not very wide.

    « Fantastic Hotel »

The Stuart hotel is a great place to stay. I had a interview in Derby and saw this on the website. Its great value for money and the staff at the hotel could not be more friendly and could not do enough. At breakfast there was a wide range of cereal's and the full english breakfast was 5*. Anyone needing a place to stay in Derby should pick the Stuart Hotel

    « Ok for a short stay »

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting friends for a catch up. The hotel from the outside is very smart with modern, new signage and an onsite car park which unfortunately is open to the general public for a fee so was pretty difficult to get parking Our room was ok, incredibly warm and being on a main road meant the window couldn't stay open. The bed was comfy and clean and the bathroom sparkling. The hotel does have a restaurant but with the intu centre 5mins walk away we went there instead. Our first night was unfortunately interrupted by the guy in the next room and his paid for guest, the hotel seemed to be full of rather sketchy people that evening. When I mentioned this the next morning reception did apologize and in all honesty I should of reported it at the time. On the second evening our key stopped working but this was rectified quickly and have no further issues with it. When we got into the room though we noticed house keeping had changed all the bedding, pillows and duvet not just covers and the replacement was hard and uncomfortable but we were just glad the noisy neighbour had checked out and the room was empty. The staff on checkout were friendly and made sure we were happy, they really do do a good job in a challenging area. All in all its not a bad hotel if you just need a place to sleep and at less than £90 for 2 nights ( we booked nearly 9 months in advance ) you can't complain but at standard rate booked a few weeks before I'd go elsewhere.

    « As expected »

Dark décor and dark, heavy bedroom furniture, bathroom a bot tired - you know you're in a typical BW. I ordered fish and chips for dinner - awful. About 100g of tough, undercooked fish hidden in an excess of batter, ramekin dish of lukewarm mushy peas....ugh. Restaurant is inappropriately called XS. Avoid it.

    « Fab little hotel »

Hi We stayed here Sat 16th Jan my husband myself and brother and sister in law. The staff upon arrival were so friendly and helpful. We arrived early but the receptionist and cleaner were able to sort us rooms out that had already been cleaned and we were able to check in. The rooms were lovely with ours having a fridge if required. It was spotless clean and the bathroom was lovely. We have visited this hotel 3 times and cannot fault it. The location is right by all the shops and just a short stroll to the main pubs and clubs. Thanks to everyone at the Stuart hotel we will be returning soon.

My breakfast which I asked for a poached egg o toast with two slices of bacon and beans. It was sublime. You have not lived unless you stay here. I will be back again.

    « Cant complain »

Stayed over in Derby for 2 nights, due to my son seeing friends. arrived at the hotel around 4pm, check in was easy nice pleasant lady on reception checked us in without fuss, asked did we need any help with anything, gave us the wifi etc, room had a very clean bed and bathroom, floor looked like it had been hoovered but only by the chest of drawers, top of the wardrobe was very very dusty but am not sleeping on the top of that, the rooms had underfloor heating we had the window open and the fan on 28th Dec lol, had a night porter on the reception desk we let on to him never asked to see pass sure they must know who is coming and going. will stay there again no doubt this year when my son is visiting again, all all a decent sleep and nice place to stay at.

« Excellent value for money »

We stayed here New Years Eve. The staff were friendly and helpful, quickly resolving the fact that we had been allocated a twin instead of a double room with sincere apologies. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they all smiled, including the cleaning staff. Reception was bright and modern and both the restaurant and bar were well appointed. The overall effect was of a rather more expensive hotel. The room was nothing special, but very clean and tidy and a step up from your Travel Lodge type room, with a wardrobe and desk/dressing table and a proper little bathroom. Breakfast was a little on the expensive side at £9.95 but very nice with a good choice of options. It didn't get the full 5 stars because the basin had been mended rather than being replaced, the shower was a bit insipid at peak usage times and there was a plumbing problem in the ladies toilets in the reception area. The car park was also a bit on the small side for a large hotel. We would happily use this hotel again.

    « Rooms need a renovation »

This hotel is opposite a very large hospital that is being demolished, so there is a lot of noise and dust etc. The location also appeared to be in the down market end of town. We were put in a disabled room for no apparent reason. This room was also near the car park and a noisy generator room. There is free car parking but the location has the feel of being unsecure. The room we were in needed a renovation

« Ok but would expect more value for money. »

I have stayed for 5 days, rooms clean and tidy but furniture tired. I didn't have Internet access in my room because i was to far from reception. Paper thick walls so you can hear everything what person next room is up to. The worse and the most annoying was the heating 14 degrees outside and heating on full max during the day and night I felt like in tropics, after reporting it to reception got told " well that's how our heating is set and we cannot change it" overall not very bad but wont use it next time.

    « Noisy night! »

We have been to this hotel a few times. It is clean and reasonably priced. We have always found the staff friendly and helpful. We had booked a standard room and were at first pleased to have been offered a larger family room. This was short lived however as we soon realised that it was directly above the sound system for the function room underneath. It was not possible to sleep until after midnight when the party finished. Not the relaxing stay we had hoped for.

    « Not so great »

Nice lobby and bar area. Rooms very tired and in dire need of updating. Rooms incredibly hot, perpetual banging noise resonated throughout the room. All staff that we met were polite and efficient. Am awake at 4a.m. writing this review, because of the heat in the room and the general noise!! Quite disappointed!!!

« Great for a one night stopover »

after reading some negative reviews I wondered what I had let my self into but was pleasantly surprised All staff were polite and efficient and as it was Christmas even offered me cookies to take away when I checked out and there were bags of Quality Street for guests to enjoy My room (212) was clean and had everything one expects to find. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet. Breakfast staff were polite and efficient and the full English breakfast was very good.

« Good value overnight stop »

Arrived early (noon) no problem leaving luggage or parking the car in advance of checking in. Returned after 11pm after a night out, some trouble with the key cards, not just us and the staff were quite frustrated at the system, but the 5th one worked, annoying but sorted quickly, staff apologised again in the morning. Room was clean and well presented, excellent shower and good quality towels. Excellent value for a double room £39 for a friday night in December. Just be aware the hospital across the road is being demolished as this work was also happening on saturdays, started at 8am.

« AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! »

I have the pleasure of staying in all types of hotels and all places and I must admit I hardly find the need to warn potential guests on a hotel, however this hotel is just something else. Arriving at reception early and I fully appreciate rooms maybe are not available but the way the manager just before we could ask dismissed us was I felt incredibly rude. We then thought we would have a drink at their so called trendy Lounge bar, well having asked politely if we could have a drink and still 10 minutes later no one appeared to serve us we gave up. When we got back at 6pm to check in the process to be fair was straight forward although it was very evident they were understaffed. When getting into the room it was average but again where credit is due it was clean and tidy but it was not a double bed it was two twins stuck together so not very comfortable. Having then got ready I found it odd that I could hear very clearly the neighbouring room also very clearly getting ready as from having to listen to them going to the toilet, having a conversation about their day i could hear it all. Then we went to the bar and yet again I had to try and locate someone to serve as the bar man was hiding and seriously really was hiding behind the bar!!, we asked for two Jack daniels and diet coke, the diet coke went out so the barman got the duty manager the same man from earlier who made a comment that it was the carbonater. A couple of minutes later he said they had to turn it off as the roof had flooded and had to switch off the electrics.. Is this place safe??? I thought nothing more of it and got back to the hotel again at 10.30 having had dinner out. Shame that when booking they did not warn the fact that there was a live band playing till 12.30!!! and up to 3am there were people up and down the corridor. Now usually I would phone reception, however as I could hear people still up in my room against my bed and the other neighbouring room they may as well be in the same room it really was that bad. I was just so conscious that someone could hear me complaining to reception that I would then have confrontation. To make matters worse I wasn't well with a lost voice and a nightmare cough which also made me feel more conscious as if I could hear quiet talking so clearly then how my coughing must have gone down I am amazed anyone got any sleep. I couldn't sadly vent my anger when I left due to the lack of my voice but this hotel really is not up to standard, there is no and I mean no sound insulation so unless you enjoy sharing with other people you don't know your stay then avoid this place at all costs. My room for reference was 252. Hope this helps those looking for a quiet night sleep as you wont find it here!

    « Room for Improvement »

I enjoyed my stay in Derby but this was mainly due to the lovely company I had as well as the excellent selection of Bars I encountered on a Saturday night bender. Firstly myself and my wife were not impressed by how "sinky" the bed was. It felt like hopping into a bucket of quicksand and to add to the desert feel of the room it was around 26 degrees most of the time. I had to leave the window open all night which left me exposed to the ambient sounds of lorries, alcoholics and pigeons all night. Not an ideal temperature for someone with alcohol dehydration plus the fact I was too intoxicated to find an actual bottle of water, tap water had to suffice. We then made our way to the bathroom and I can only assume it was built with hobbits in mind as the sink did not allow you to move at all. As beautiful as my wife is I wanted to give her the dignity of changing in the bathroom away from my peering eyes and she was unable to do so very well due to the lack of space. I was also disappointed at the lack of a drinks menu and room service at a point of the night where I probably would have spent any amount of money for a bottle of Prosecco. Last negative was the fact that as I was dazed at 10am trying to overcome my hangover one of the cleaners thought it would be a good idea to walk in on me whilst exposed to the world. Was not impressed considering my appalling state and the fact checkout was at 11am. There are positives however. Really liked the colours used on the bed of Red and Gold. My wife also liked the curtains. You also let me stay in the car park all day next day which was extremely satisfying considering I was in no fit state to drive.

« Not all bad but... »

We booked here before reading the reviews and then were worried. Checkin was straight forward. We had a pushchair with us but there isn't a lift so the receptionist offered to store it. Yes the corridors have seen better days but who spends time in the corridors?!? Our room was a good size but it is a family room and had the sofa made in to a bed. The room and hotel were HOT!!! I know it's December but we had the noisy air conditioning unit running the first night and the window open all day and the second night. The bathroom - there's no where to put the hand towel near the sink and the water pressure for the shower is unacceptable. Service for breakfast was slow the first morning and so slow the second day my children were begging to return to the room. The staff were all friendly and even brought another room card to me when I was stuck outside the room with the children. However their friendliness is not enough for me to return to this hotel - I need a decent shower in the morning and prefer to have control over the temperature of the room.

    « Quality »

Room small but comfortable. Restaurant menu was good, bar was a little disappointing. My major gripe is the wifi.....absolutely useless in the bedroom, ok in reception area. The price was quite reasonable.

    1
« Tired, old and a danger to your wellbeing!! »

The location of the hotel in terms of the City Centre is perfect, however that is when the positives stop.... It is clear upon entry to the hotel that they must have issues with people just coming to stay at the hotel and use it for 'short stays' of a few hours. The people wanting to check in were all asked for photo ID given the shortness of the stay and the fact they were checking in without any luggage! We were given our room card after checking in and walked down what can only be described as a very tired looking corridor. As we pushed the door of our room open, it suddenly became jammed when only half ajar... It was blocked by the bed! We couldn't actually enter our room whilst holding our overnight bags, we had to pass them through after entering! There was simply not enough space to have a double bed in the room, it was uncomfortable, certainly a fire hazard and also an absolute joke in terms of been sold as a double room. It didn't get much better with the bathroom either. I am not a large person by any stretch of the imagination but it was actually impossible for me to stand in the quarter quadrant shower cubicle. I will most definitely never be returning to this hotel!

    « Bad, bad, bad! »

I have never reviewed a hotel on line. However, I felt this necessary. This Hotel is a disgrace. I paid £90 for a small room that is promoted on this site for £44. There was not enough room for the swinging cat. Notwithstanding that, the Hotel occupies a site in a run down section of this run down city. From beginning to end, the experience of the Stuart Hotel, Best Western is akin to staying in Derby after Charles Stuart and the clans invaded the the city during the Scottish invasion. Outside the hotel, you are greeted by a cigarette butt container festooned to overflowing with fag ends. Once you have overcome the shock of overcharging, you are ushered up the stairs to your room. Tough if you are handicapped or have heavy luggage, but wait?what aroma greets you on the hallowed steps trod by Kings? Urine! Then you enter your room through a tiny door. What splendour. Large enough for a kennel, but at £90, one would expect some space and a little comfort, like a chair. The restaurant, cuisine representing the best of slop bucket, served a fish and chip meal (I thought they couldn't get it wrong?) that represented an expensive version of negative star rating. After a night of fending off the walls, the morning was greeted by a bathroom with a toilet seat askew of the bowl, a bath shower where the water pressure could be exceeded by a bean can with holes in the bottom and a filthy floor. If you want to experience drech, look no further. The only light was that the serving staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful and the counter staff reasonably professional. This has got to be experienced for standards only exceeded by an unhygienic chicken coop.

Asleep in my room at about 10:30pm and a random bloke walks in. He's been given the same room as me. Called reception and they said it won't happen again. How that can happen I don't know. I'll try go back to sleep now... I wonder what would have happened if I was out? Would I have come back to a random person in my bed?!

« Clean, comfortable will return! »

This is our second stay here within a year. This hotel is great for location literally up the road from the shopping centre (which is great!) , didn't have food here so cannot comment. The hotel is what you pay for its basic in areas but its clean! Free parking is a huge bonus as well. I will return as I have no issues. It was a comfortable night's sleep. I do recommend.

    « Good location »

Stayed here for a 2 Week course. Rooms were clean and tidy and beds wonderfully comfy. Downside of the rooms are he sound proofing! Unfortunately my neighbour in week 1 had a terrible cough which kept us both awake! ?? Room 124 you can even hear you neighbour take a shower and sadly take a pee. Sadly the one night I ordered room service as couldn't be bothered to go out, it took over 2 hours and when delivered was not that great. Apart from these small issues. A good place to stay that is within easy walking distance of the town centre.

Great location 5 mins to great shopping centre if that, smallish car park took a while to park due to people bring on a speed awareness course! Room cards didn't work twice so had to go back to reception! Kettle hiding in bottom drawer . Rooms pretty normal, beds comfy, was very windy night so heard Windows keep making noises but not necessary hotels fault! Staff helpful! Brekkie same carnt fault really - would return purely for closeness

« Average hotel but could do better »

Stayed two nights over two weeks. Good points: people at reception very helpful, especially Patryk; breakfast fine; location good for station and city centre; three good Indian restaurants within five minutes stroll. Bad points: first room boiling hot so had to sleep with window open, second room too cold (no way to alter temperature); water pressure low so shower was a trickle; wifi good in one room but poor in other room; carpets in halls and stairs a bit dirty (although rooms were clean); problems with systems so I was charged for breakfast even though it was an inclusive rate and was also charged for drinks in the bar which I didn't have. So, in summary, not bad but could be better. Would stay again as it's convenient and good value but not the place to book for a romantic weekend in Derby.

    « Serious problems »

I booked 2 rooms for a 2 night stay with a colleague. The first rooms we were given were so small we could not walk around the bed. In mine the shower was so small I could not shut the door and the water pressure hopeless! Radiator was stone cold. My colleague asked for a room with a bath so was moved straight away. I complained in the morning when I went off to work. I have to say that the meal and breakfast were very good. On returning the second evening our key cards did not work. Reception said that they were upgrading us to executive rooms. Both these rooms were a good size and had aircon units. Radiators were turned off so we set the aircon to 30 degrees after 20 minutes they were still blowing cold air! I turned the radiators on, mine made a loud rushing noise. We went down to eat. On our return my colleagues was still stone cold so she moved back to her second room. Mine was red hot - great! I was woken at 1:30 by a loud howling noise. This was fixed by turning the radiator back off!! So between us for a two night stay we spent two nights each in cold rooms in 5 different rooms!!! Most of the best westerns I stay in ( I'm a diamond member) are very nice, I will not be staying here again. I notice the manager has not responded to any of the poor reviews on here I guess they are not concerned?

« Got ripped off in the bar »

Paid for bar meal and drink in cash which I had in my room. Didn't get a receipt - well you don't normally in a bar do you? At check out the next morning it was on my room bill! Manager very pushy and wouldn't accept that the bar girl had obviously pocketed the cash. Smallest room I've ever stayed in too.

The night didn't start well after we got back from a restaurant to hear the bars air conditioning unit chugging away. Perhaps should have said something then but just wanted to get to bed. The morning beer delivery woke us up as it was directly outside out window. The window ledges could do with cleaning and a coat of paint. Once that had been and gone just as we were getting up a cleaner knocked on our door completely ignoring the do not disturb sign. Size of bathroom is ridiculous small so small the door can't fully open and you have to step round the door to shut it. Once in the bathroom you have a bath, an over the bath shower, sink and toilet. However the shower doesn't pack much punch and the floor is incredibly slippy when it's dry let alone wet The room are not a bad size and the hotel faculties aren't bad but it is shabby in some areas and requires maintance and decoration to bring it back up to standard. There is a fan in the room and biscuits but this doesnt quite get it back to the rating it should be.

Disappointing. Reception looked nice, staff pleasant but our online booking via hotels own website hadn't gone through to them. No double room as booked was available so given an executive room for same price but with none of the extras listed. Room was scruffy, corridor smelt damp with obvious patches on carpet. 1.30am woken by ridiculously loud water pipe screeching, went on for 15 mins. Called reception they immediately took us to another room, it was obvious they knew about this noise but hadn't addressed the problem. After initial glance of nice, clean modern entrance it is clear the accommodation needs a good sort out. Won't be going back.

I stayed 3 nights at The Stuart Hotel. My first stay in a best western. This hotel really needs a maintenance man. The shower rail, towel rail and shower shelf were all loose and falling off the wall. The shower gels were not replenished during my stay, nor was the room vacuumed. On a plus note the breakfast was very good. The bed I found uncomfortable. I have stayed in much better hotels for the money. Disappointed.

On the face of things this best western seems like one of the few they have actually spent some money upon, and so might be ok. Reality seems that the plumbing can't cope with the demand so hot water is a premium. Even cold can be in short supply!! Nice bar area, restaurant seemed fine for breakfast, but overall a bit dissapointing.

« Breakfast was nice. ....but! »

Stayed here for 2 nights to let us (2 adults and 3 children) go to Alton Towers. On arrival we were told we could only get 4 in the room despite Booking.com recommending the hotel was suitable for 5. The room was average. Light in the bathroom didn't work (water stained ceiling would be a clue). Due to my daughter being ill I slept in the sofa bed. That was an experience. The floor would have been softer. Didn't discover until to late the broken wooden spar below(see picture). In the morning I woke up to discover I'd been bitten 4 times by, I presume bed bugs. On the plus side the breakfast was very good and the restaurant staff very pleasant and attentive. On Saturday night there was a function across from our room. Due to the heating working overtime we had to open the window so it let us share in the experience of the function until it finished at 1 am. The refreshing shower in the morning wasn't. I had to decide which side I wanted to get wet at a time given the low pressure of the water. All in all not my happiest two nights ever. Must try harder!

The room was big enough for two people and the bathroom was complete. Breakfast was average. Wifi works but sometimes it can be quite unstable. The position is perfect to reach both the city centre (10 minutes walk) and the station (5 minutes walk).

« Good hotel near the station »

Clean room, friendly staff, free WiFi, reasonable price, good location - just 5 min from the train station. A couple of negatives were: Missing temperature control in the room, the security box did not close, toilet piping was noisy and hot water pressure was low. Those things aren't complaints as such, just things worth noting. Would definitely stay there again when in Derby.

« Good Staff are so important. »

I stayed at The Stuart Hotel last Saturday with a number of friends. I booked on the day and rang the hotel directly to arrange. The front of desk staff member (Laima) was great. She was very helpful and certious. She rang me back to agree and confirm our requirements. On arrival she welcomed us and booked us into our four rooms. We had one problem in one room and my friends were given an alternative room without fuss. It was only a one night stop but all agreed that we would go back there again. Our experience of The Stuart Hotel was great for what we wanted. Our late booking was very reasonable in price and included parking. Only a 5-10 minute strut into the centre of town. Thank you The Stuart Hotel.

« FANTASTIC - I nearly did not go because of bad reports but my word, I was so happy I left £5.00 for the cleaner!!!! »

I requested a quiet, twin room and asked for the beds to be moved together. The room was very well presented and very clean. I check behind doors, beds, skirtings and was delighted and astonished as the reviews I read had nearly put me off staying. I am so fussy I always take my own bedding with me. All I can say against the room is that I do not like shower curtains and poorly fitted toilet seats. Even the free soap was very good. The reception staff could not have been more sociable and helpful. The young man behind the bar provided me with a pint glass and ice with no comment other than was there anything else he could provide. The fantastic breakfast offered a super choice and the family trio of waitresses and chef who provided me with a great omelette, could also have not done any more to make the perfect end to a great room and super night's sleep. EXCELLENT VALUE TOO!

« Tidy hotel in good location »

A tidy hotel in a good location. Parking was a bit tight but the management kindly found me somewhere. The room I stayed in was perfectly adequate without being one I would remember. There were a few niggles with the bathroom but the staff quickly sorted these out when reported. All in all a nice stay

« Clean, friendly but small and noisy »

Firstly the staff were all very friendly and efficient and the rooms very clean. The room I had on the ground floor was little bigger than the double bed it contained. It was noisy when everyone got up as the floors above were creaky and there was only a single door to the corridor. There was a van parked inches from my window which woke me up at 5.30 as it left. I would advise trying to get an upstairs room.

    « Helpful and kind »

The reception staff were wonderful, every question was dealt with courteously, every answer was an affirmative and helpful. The breakfasts were really good, everything you could want. Would recommend this for a Derby city centre stay, with a convenient location.

« Close to the city »

The room was comfortable and clean, the ensuite could do with improvement - the plug for the basin was unable to do it's job, The grab rail above the bath was loose, a fitted basket for holding shampoos, etc was loosei. The toilet seat was wobbly. The loo needed a dose of bleach down it and the door to the bedroom was grubby, I did mention it to reception, so hopefully it will be sorted by now.. The breakfast was adequate and hot. The staff were pleasant
