« Dar Es Salam hospitality »

« Fantastic location, very substandard quality »

The hotel is situated just by the ocean with a fantastic, sandy terrass with natural shade provided by the palm trees. The pool and bar area is also very nice with lots of green and shade and nice furniture for sitting and working or a fantastic spot for sun downers. Decent sized and clean pool. Rooms are of nice size and most (all?) facing the ocean. But: ACs are so noisy (old) that it is impossible to have them on at night. Rooms without AC during night and un-efficieny of ACs when turned on in combination with the Dar-climate reuslt in rooms, pillows, duvets and everything that has been in the room stinking of mold. The door to my room had 2-3 cm space between door and floor resulting in loud noice from the corridor. Food is rather expensive and not very good. Service at the reception desk is far from perfect, almost every time I passed the reception there was a group of people having some kind of discussion with the staff. our group also had misunderstandings and orders being forgotten.

« Good quality but it can be better for money »

It is an amazing hotel, very high quality, close to America and European standards. However, if you pay USD 190 per room per night, you expect a bit more... The rooms are very spacious, good bed and Internet, however the airlines leaks and the bathroom could have been maintained a bit better. Being in Africa and reaching that quality is good, great view of the bay and the food is ok.

    « Average Long stay »

While this may be an idyllic setting and the most of the staff are brilliant their quality control is severely lacking and they need to work on this. The fact that sometimes you get great service and sometimes you get really bad service is not appealing to someone who wants a long stay and uses the hotel for many services.

« Very nice staying and wonderful staff!!! »

I was ar Coral beach for a month in October and I had great time. The staff is amazing from the reception to the waiters. I particularly would like to thank Salim at the reception who was very helpful and nice. I will defintely come back!

    « Good Choice »

This is a well situated hotel on the peninsula, so if your business is there, it will be convenient. The rooms are large and comfortable, particularly in the new wing. Most have at least some view of the water, and some have balconies. Wifi is good and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast is excellent, with many choices and custom cooked eggs if you wish. Absolutely no complaints.

    « Magnificent! »

I stayed here at the end of August and early September Beautiful rooms, fantastic view. Friendly efficient service and outstanding staff! A big thank you to Chef Parso who made sure I ate and prepped all my faves! Thank you to a Glynnis - the heart & soul of this beautiful establishment. To all the behind the scenes cleaners, housekeeping staff, accounting staff - all the people who keep the machine oiled - well done and Asante Sana!

« good and bad things »

position is nice - pay attention to the rooms: some are very nice, some are noisy (for instance near the elevators) and/or very humid (the floor was completely wet). Restaurant has a very limited menu and is more expensive and of lower level that other restaurants in the area such as Capetown Fish Market or the one at Slipway. Personnel is very friendly

« Good hotel and staff with big comfy rooms »

Nice feel to the place overall, good holiday vibe to it in a kind of hacienda way, not too modern and cold, but warm and authentic feeling. That is except for the restaurant which is not that appealing nor is the food they produce. The staff are fantastic though and the room was massive with a lovely large balcony, bed and the biggest TV I've ever had in a hotel room. Only small issue was the fridge was not even plugged in and I had to take it out the cabinet and plug it in next to the bed myself. I'm sure the staff would have sorted if I asked though, but this should have been set up before check in. The only big fail overall were the cocktails from the bar. I honestly had the worst long Island ice tea of my life here. But the setting of the bar and the bar itself was pleasant. Overall I recommend it. It's great value for Dar and especially oyster bay. For business or pleasure it should more than satisfy you

    5
    « Absolute a pleasure »

I didn't had a booking and they helped me as if I was a regular guest. Restaurant good, service of the waiters is sometimes a bit to much ( for every move you make they are standing next to you ). Outside bar : stunning !!! Pool great Rooms very clean and cleaning stall very polite. The receptionist while checking out was fast and accurate, toppie !!

    « Outstandingly friendly & helpful »

My four days conferencing at Coral Beach were pure pleasure. Nothing too much trouble for the staff, comfortable, spacious room and good food. Lovely setting overlooking the bay, too. Warmly recommended.

« Great location and friendly staff »

A good choice in Dar es Salaam - great views and location. I would stay here again. Rooms are average and given the climate can be stuffy - I found opening the door and running the AC a bit sorted that. Bathrooms are OKish and soap and towels etc can be better but the staff and the food at the beach restaurant and the views make up for that. Make sure you check out early - the online process takes a while.

« Stinky sticky room and terrible food »

In summary, at checkout I found out I could have stayed in the new block with great rooms. And then it hit me that I might have been profiled and put in the oldest and worst. I'm never going back... 1. I never got picked up from the airport and this didn't come up even once during check in. 2. I was put into a stinky room and when I asked to be move, I was told to run the AC and open the door and all should be okay. Well I tried this but this didn't help. Turns out the smell comes from the Bathroom. Which I found out when I tried to take a bath. 3. Tried to take a bath but the water was lukewarm... towels were really old and the stench was overwhelming 4. When I woke up in the morning the AC was broken, water everywhere. I informed reception before I left for my meetings but when I came back nothing had been done, apparently I'd missed the room service window. so I insisted and got move to another room .... 5. Now in Room 103 ...The stench was so bad... Breakfast was terrible, room service just terrible. I've been to over 20 hotels in Dar and this one is definitely alt+deleted

    « Another great visit »

We always stay here on our last day in Tanzania and are never disappointed.. It's a lovely relaxing place with great facilities. Rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable with a good size bathroom and tea/coffee making and fridge. Some rooms have a sea view which is a bonus. The staff are efficient and very pleasant and helpful. They've made a few changes in the grounds in the last couple of years and it's all looking lovely. I hear there are plans afoot to revamp the swimming pool which is in a lovely setting and is always inviting. I look forward to seeing that next year,

« Hotel is quiet, homey, and the staff very friendly »

The Indian Ocean view is spectacular where you can clearly see and feel the tides. Upon arrival, my reservation was not yet confirmed and yet Rehema was quite helpful in getting me settled. The seats / beds in the outdoor scenary are just delightful

« Couple of nights only... »

Room fine, clean and spacious. Staff friendly and attentive. Quiet day when we were there but expect busier most of rest of year. Breakfast was OK, enough choice. Plenty sunloungers around small pool. Not really a beach hotel, just on the shore. Beer and drink prices bit steep. Wifi excellent in all locations. For us, hotel also little out for short trip to city centre. Overall, met our needs and would use again one day pre-safari.

    « Best Western »

We had a great time here,it was easy to find the hotel. The staff is friendly the room was very nice & comfortable.Breakfast is not that great, but it is eatable. The surrounding is very pleasant & relaxing????????????

    « Beach and Friends »

In a hot sunny day, nothing beats the cool and fresh breeze and drinks with friends. Amazing services, best views we just had the lunch of our life, it was worth. Best experience so far. Hoping to visit again soon

    4
« Good visit shame about the leaking aircon »

The food was lovely. I ate from the menu rather than from the buffet. For such good food I was surprised that it wasn't fuller. My room would have been very pleasant had the aircon not be discharging its water to a huge puddle in the room, which gave a damp feeling to the room. This is the only reason I am critical. The fresh draft Peroni was better than in Rome. The staff were very attentive.

    5
    « Excellent Hotel »

    - This hotel has an amazing view to the ocean and perfect sunset view - The staff are very friendly and dedicated - The BBQ open buffet on Friday is having all the varieties and good taste - The Pizza is amazing - The pasta day is shifted on Wednesday where you can enjoy as much as you can from the pasta

« Great hotel in an amazing location »

The hotel was really nice. Very clean and impeccable service. The breakfast buffet was ok, but the a la carte menu options were really good in the restaurant. The view of the ocean from the lounge bar or the observation decks were amazing. Overall, a great experience and a hotel that I would definitely stay in again.

    4
    « Business Stay »

Coral Beach is a very friendly and helpful establishment, quiet with no disturbances, excellent choice for a business stay. The internet connection is fast and reliable. the rooms large and provide for an overall experience of being geared for business trips with a large desk and power connectors that fit all types of chargers.

    5
« Best beach hotel in Dar es Salaam »

I was there for a business trip and for the first time I was in east Africa. their staff make me feel home and helped me with the local need. Rooms were clean and tidy. Nice beach facing room. They changed my room to beach facing on request. Clean and healthy food but I had not many chances to visit their restaurant. Good Continental breakfast menu.

    4
    « Great Hotel »

Coral beach is a very nice hotel away from the buzz of the city. They did not have a problem to give me one night credit and store my luggage when I made a last minute decision to go to Zanzibar for one night. Rooms are well equipped and spacious. There is room for improvement at the reception counter service and the hotel is not very child friendly

    5
    « A short business trip »

The staff are very friendly and accommodating making the check in till you are in your room smooth and easy. The rooms are clean and airy with loads of space. You can see the sea from most of the rooms and the balcony on your room is big enough so that you can lie back and relax on the lounger. Everything is clean and neat with a distinctly openness feel putting one at ease and feeling like you are on vacation as soon as you arrive. This was a short business trip for me and wished that I could have spent a few days just relaxing in the peaceful environment.

    5
    « Sherry »

The highlights of the hotel include comfortable well designed rooms, superb, efficient and friendly service, peaceful garden and superb sea views. Couldn't have been better and will definitely return!

    5
« Lovely hotel on the peninsula »

Stunning views, good location on the peninsula, great spacious rooms. Also, very good Indian food and seafood. Good service by staff. Very pleasant all in all. My only recommendation would be to improve the location of the gym from the basement to a point with a seaview.

    5
    « A Pleasant Stay »

This hotel has one of the best spots in Dar, with some stunning views. Most rooms also have balconies from which to watch the tides go up and down while sipping on something. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are spacious. The only thing lacking was on the quality of the food, but this is true for most hotels in DES. My recommendation is to stay here, but have your meals somewhere else.

    5
« Well located and peaceful »

I stayed at the Coral Beach for just over a week when I first arrived to the country. I found the location fantastic and the staff very friendly and helpful. I was first given a room on the first floor towards the back as the hotel was full. I asked to move rooms and as soon as they were available I was moved to a gorgeous room on a higher floor with full ocean views. The staff at reception were helpful and proactive. The hotel is great for business and relaxation. I will definitely recommend it.

    4
    « Great Spot »

I have stayed here a couple of times and the location over looking the bay, the warmth and kindness of the staff and the waterfront bar mean I will continue to stay here on future trips. The hotel itself is of a decent standard, clean and comfortable with good size rooms/bathrooms. Food is excellent (Mauritian chefs) and prices for food and drinks are very reasonable. There is a small gym in the basement which is good enough for a short break. Finally, I reiterate, the staff to a man and woman are delightful - cannot fault their service and general demeanour.

  • 3
« Great location, poor room maintenance »

Annoying things not working like the TV remote and room safe, were reported, a commitment made by the duty manager to rectify the next day and nothing happened. No hot water at the basin, and ineffective air conditioning also spoilt the great location.

    4
    « Beautiful sunsets! »

Great location at the very tip of The Peninsula. Enjoyed some tasty cocktails whilst watching the sun set. Rooms seem OK - not the lap of luxury but this is "real Africa" so expectations need to be managed. Good breakfast and very helpful staff.

    3
« Great view, but damp rooms. »

Hotel grounds and location are great, especially the beach bar. It had nice sunset view somewhat good coctails. However breakfast was mediocre and room was damp, with moldy smell. So overall score would be average.

    4
    « Idyllic Hideaway »

Rooms are very comfortable and view is superb Occasionally no hot water for shower Breakfast needs improvement Restaurant and bar prices are exorbitant Staff are friendly-service can be slow at times TV guide in room lacking

    5
« Nice and comfortable Stay »

I have stayed in this hotel for 6 night in the month of July. The hotel is just on the sea shore and it is calm and quite place. The staff of the hotel is professional and friendly. Hotel have all the amenities like swimming pool , Gym , Garden and parking. The restaurant serves tasty food for vegetarian and non vegetarian food. I will recommend to take sea facing room.

    5
« BEST WESTERN Coral Beach Hotel »

The hotel is has been revamped so is quite modern, trendy and clean. The views are simply stunning, make sure you request a sea facing room. I traveled during the month of Ramadaan and required breakfast at 4am, I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel was able to cater for my needs with a hot breakfast of my choice delivered to my room.

    5
    « Excellent »

The room and the view was amazing. We had the best time during our stay. The girl at the reception was very nice assisted us quickly, Room service was on time. The minibar was well stocked too bad i wasnt drinking :-( Keep it up!

    4
« Nice views and perfect staff »

This place was the place I stayed when moving to Tanzania and the place I left on my last night. We even got to get the exact same room. It was fitting after our 8 months of living here. The room itself is cozy. The bed was great and I like the positioning right in front of the balcony door with views of the bay. The staff was excellent and by far the best part of this whole stay. Very friendly without expecting anything. They were extremely helpful and my wife talks about their kindness all the time. My only compliant is the WiFi. From in the room if you stand by the door you could get it. Lay on the bed and it is a different story. If you go make sure to see the turtles. They are cute especially the babies.

« very clean and nice! »

I had to host a few Canadian business guests for a few days, and i too stayed with them there. we all found the staff to be very nice and the hotel was very clean and nice, I think they must have opened up recently by the looks of how well the building has been maintained. The rates were also fair, i would use this hotel again for sure !!

    4
« Peaceful hotel in the Peninsula »

Quite old but well maintained property. Very peaceful location at the further end of the Peninsula. The service worked all fine, only the credit card payment is a bit suspicious process but it was also well done in the end. The views from seaside rooms are very nice, remember to tbook one with a view if it matters to you. All in all a nice 4 star hotel (in my opinion) with reasonable price considering local pricelevel.

  • 5
« What an Awesome Place. Loved the stay. »

My colleague and I stayed at Best Western for 2 x evenings and let me tell you for the value it was the best. The service is great, the food scrumptious and the view to die for. I will most certainly return.

    2
« Only view is good... »

I booked 5 days in there but i left in 2nd day fm hotel because; The hotel name is beach hotel, even if i like action but it is almost impossible to swim in there because of rock barrier. The safe box was out of order. One of worker said that they fix it in a day but it is a lie because the safe is out of order fm several weeks (you can check other people comments about safe box). Plus; The room was big. Ocean view is really nice Result; In my opinion the hotel is not cosy, they do not deserve what i paid. If their rates can be under 120usd then i can start to think that i can stay again at the hotel.

    4
    « Lovely stay »

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Good services only that response time to room service is quite slow. There is need for improvement. Otherwise, it is a good hotel I can recommend for all sorts of trips

    3
« Great location but slow service »

I stayed here while attending a conference in Dar es Salaam Feb 2016. The staff are more oriented to Kiswahili with limited English making communication difficult. It takes several 'back and forth' before getting the service you want. However the views are beautiful and for that i recommend it.

    3
« Average rooms, amazing views »

Amazing views, lovely outdoor bar and pool. Breakfast has improved. Rooms in the new section are much nicer than the old, request on with a sea view. Convo entirety located near many restaurants in the peninsula. One of the better well priced business's hotels in the area

« I will never recommend to stay at this hotel! »

I stayed at this hotel twice this year (2016); first was on January and second was on early April. On Jan they gave me a room in the old building - the bathroom smells like sewage. The next one on April, I came quite late (after a long travel day continued with meeting) and expected to have a room to rest. When my colleagues and I arrived, they looked confused when we mentioned about our request (including to stay in the new building and for me to have double bed); have to wait for almost an hour!! Long story short, they finally put me in a room with twin bed (!) in new building (the only double bed left was in the old building). When I entered the room, there was water puddles close to the door; I called room service, they cleaned it and said they don't know why it happened. What made it even worse, when I woke up in the morning, the whole floor was covered with water (dew like); my baggage, clothes which I put outside was wet as well. I was pretty lucky to watch my step when I awake so I did not slip on a wet floor. I called the manager to my room and showed him what has happened. It might because of their air conditioning system did not work well. I was furious and told him if I caught in any respiratory infection (because I slept in high humidity room) I will sue the hotel. When I finally checked out I refused to pay the amount they charged me and only agreed to pay $100 - I can get a better hotel with the same location and surely cheaper than this one! The manager apologized and would like to give me a compliment for the next visit. No thank you, Sir, I will never stay or suggest friends to stay in this hotel. It does not worth the amount we spent!!

    4
« An oasis of calm with amazing views »

This is one of the quietest hotels, surrounded by mature gardens. It also has amazing views of the yacht club and across oyster bay to the open Indian ocean. The rooms are all spacious and I think all have balconies. It is close to a number of good restaurants and shops.

    3
    « business stop »

hotel staff were pleasant. First room given to me had mouldy musty smell to it.. so asked to change the room which was done. the second room that was given to me, the safe cupboard wasn't working. i went to use the toilet there were worms in the water. they disappeared after flushing but reappeared few hours later. second time complained to the hotel. they couldn't do much. the swimming pool was dirty with lots of debris at the bottom of the pool and leaves floating on top. it wasn't very poor value for money. I was booked to stay here a week later but canceled.to go another hotel. the beds were very uncomfortable and sagged in the middle.

« Great new find for business travelers in Dar es Salaam! »

I really enjoyed my recent stay at Coral Beach Best Western. I'm a frequent traveler to Dar and have stayed in many hotels. I was pleasantly surprised by the very service oriented atmosphere at the hotel, from restaurant staff, trainer at the gym, reception, all the way up to the General Manager. It's a nice location, very convenient to Slipway and SeaCliff shopping areas; breakfast buffet is decent; and internet connection was consistent throughout my stay! Would definitely recommend!

    3
    « Mixed experience »

I stayed her recently with three colleagues. The hotel and location are lovely. One of my rooms had a fantastic view and the beachfront is very attractive. However, we had continuing issues with not being able to lock our doors or getting locked out of our rooms. The staff changed our rooms multiple times. One colleague had 3 rooms in four nights. I changed mine twice--you get the picture. The staff were friendly but seemed quite relaxed and just had to keep coming to let us in or help us lock the doors. It appeared to be a battery problem. Finally, the restaurant, which served us breakfast each morning was mediocre. I had hoped for better food and far better coffee.

    « A nice quiet stay »

I very much enjoyed my stay. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was superb and the suite magnificent. I particularly enjoyed the Nyama Choma buffet, but overall the food was excellent. Thanks for a wonderful Easter weekend retreat. My only suggestion is that the shower heads be soaked periodically in vinegar to clear the calcium deposits.

    3
    « Perfect sunsets »

The hotel has a perfect location in a quiet neighbourhood. Enjoyed my three days in dar es salaam. The food was great. On arrival was given a room whose drainage was not working thus had to be changed into another room. I had booked for an ocean facing room, but this was not what I was given. Since i checked in late, i was too tired to complain. I expected more from Best Western!

    3
« Nice setting and food. Hotel rooms and service need work. »

This hotel has a nice view, pretty grounds and a good restaurant. As other reviewers mentioned, you can't access the ocean from this hotel, but it has a nice pool (a bit small but it didn't get busy while I was there) and a sandy "beach" area with lounges. They have a decent gym with an elliptical, bike, and treadmill as well as weights. The rooms and service are the biggest area needing improvement. My first room was bright and spacious with dated decor and a door that wouldn't lock and the wifi was spotty. They moved me to a room in the newer building in the basement which was quite dark and had a safe that didn't work and that no one could fix. Because of the humidity, there was mold growing on the desk chair. The wifi was better but the tv had different channels than in the main building and none in English. The front desk staff, while friendly, weren't very helpful and when presented with a question or concern never knew how to handle it. I was there for meetings on the premises and they were often late with setting up tea breaks. Overall, I would look elsewhere before staying here again.

« Dinner at coral beach »

Yesterday went to this hotel second time for dinner The location is stunning on the banks of Indian ocean We had great pictures of sunset We had indian food . Chef is very cooperative in helping us choosing our vegetarian dish Food is excellent Staff service is also extremely nice Overall great

    « Great for a sun downer »

Wanted a sea breeze and an early evening drink to watch the sunset - so hit upon Coral Beach. Just perfect - comfy seating on a coral white pretend beach, quite spectacular. Prices are higher for the luxury but still not bad.

    5
« Hotel on the sea »

Great sea views professional service and luxury rooms obtained on a corporate rate. Have stayed before and was allocated the same room which was spacious and well appointed. Highly recommend this best western hotel. Good atmosphere and well managed.

    « Weekend getaway »

Best Western Coral Beach advertises itself as a 'boutique' hotel. It is a very good way of looking at this fine place. My wife and I have stayed here in the past (about 2.5 years ago at Christmas). Management has changed since. The past was not bad. Yet, the new management is trying hard, and it shows in the outcome. If you are looking for beach hotel so you can run on the beach in the morning or evening look elsewhere. Even the morning and evening photo shots are not there. What is there is a quaint hotel with clean rooms next to the yacht club with a great staff. The food is good also. Our first stay we got a normal room. That's fine if you are just staying to do other things in the area. This time, mbecause we wanted to get away and enjoy our time at the hotel, we got a suite. It was not a bad idea. The room was clean and well accommodating. We loved the balcony overlooking the bay. While there at the hotel there was a barbecue and beach band. Both were well done experiences without being overdone. I would rate the band and talented and sedate (meaning not hiding their inability in loudness). The meals were we had for the four days there were all good. Plus we went out one lunch and one dinner to nearby places that were good also. My wife and I will come back. We are talking about Christmas of this year doing this again. If I were looking for anything bad to write,Mathe drain in the bathroom sink ran slow. That's it! I hope others find this hotel in such good form as we did. It is one little boutique secret in Dar.

    « Lovely Hotel »

We enjoyed a night at this lovely hotel. It is really beautifully decorated. We were lucky to have a suite which had a bath and big shower. The room was large, with a balcony which we enjoyed. The wifi was very good! The pool area is pretty, and there is a beach area too. The staff were efficent and friendly. I am looking forward to returning.

« One of the best for me »

The views are extravagant. Atmosphere great! Have to keep focus if you are there on business. Hospitality and sevice is great! Had a morning coffee on the beach. Late afternoon around the pool enjoying the sunset. Dragged myself away in the mornings for business and completely unwind at night. An absolutely MUST-STAY!!! For business or leisure.

    « Mr M de Wit »

The hotel property is situated on the seafront with beautiful views of the yachts and the sea from both the rooms ( ask for a balcony) and the dinner/bar area. The gym is situation in a type of dungeon but there are ample equipment for a quick workout - prepare to sweat!! The breakfast is ok , very standard but acceptable. The rooms are nice and big with free wifi ( fairly strong signal) . Small hotel with nice views, nice rooms, good service and not too high prices! Its close to the SeaCliff hotel where there is a casino and two good restaurants

    « A cut above the rest »

Best Western Coral Beach has the most spacious rooms of any hotel I have ever stayed. Well appointed with attention to detail. Great location and friendly staff who is always smiling and willing to assist. An overall great value for money.

    5
« Perfect stop-over after Zanzibar or safari »

Beautifully located on the coast with sun-set view over yacht club and north Dar-es-Salaam. The rooms are very nice and those with balcony has great views. However, it does not have a private beach - it only a coral rock tidal basin so the only option for a swim is the pool.

    5
« Best Western Coral Beach »

Great hotel. The location, staff, amenities etc are very good. Very good place for kids too. Internet works well so business travellers will like this place. Not crowded which makes swimming a pleasant experience.

« Best Hotel in Dar Es Salaam »

I have stayed at many hotels in Dar es Salaam and find myself requesting only the Coral Beach now! The staff are super-friendly, super-efficient, the rooms are big and nicely appointed, comfortable and clean. I feel safe and welcome at the Coral Beach - much more so than at some of the other (and mostly more expensive!) Hotels in Dar. Really is a great hotel!

« Right on the beach »

I have stayed at this hotel since I began travelling to Tanzania in 2011. It has come a long way since then with excellent management, renovations and some experience from a catering point-of-view. The restaurant on the beach provides for a relaxing meal at sunset with the gentle lapping of waves just over the coral retaining wall. The Seashorse Bar is excellent after a long hot day. The hotel is well located away from the CBD and the area has many interesting places nearby. Examples are the Sea Cliff Hotel and Casino, the Yacht Club, Cape Town Fish Market and the famous (or infamous) George and Dragon. All in all, always a good place to stay in Dar es Salaam.

« Nice environments, great service, room not 4 stars »

This hotel is situated nicely at the Indian ocean at Oyster Bay, a peninsular close to, but off the hectic and terrible place that Dar can be. It is very close to the Slipway (shopping and dining) complex. The room I stayed in (304) was spacious but showed the first signs of wearing off and it definatelly looked better on the photos online. Also, some of the toiletries were only available by asking at the reception, and shower gel, e.g. came in bottles screwed to the walls, which gave a sort of greedy feeling. In comparison, Protea Courtyard (3 stars) has smaller, but much more nicely decorated rooms and better toiletries. So, as for the rooms, I would rate this place 3 stars only. The rest of the hotel however is nice, well kept and the inside is decorated with a touch of arabic/Zanzibar influence. It does not have the impersonal, cold feeling many other business places (e.g. Tanzanite Executive Suites) have. The outside environment is really nice and has a great view of the ocean. The pool is small but a welcome refreshment in the Dar heat. Be aware that the announced beach is artificial and there is no direct access to the Indian Ocean. As for the restaurant, it was worth the price, the breakfast menu was typical for a 4* place and had decent coffee. What mentions an extra comment was the superb service. On my last night they tried out a new barbecue buffet and the chef personally asked me if I was content with the selection and the quality. Also the revenue manager personally enquired about my assessment. Even more so, the receptionists were really friendly, helpful, organized cabs for me, and one of them even took the extra effort to scan the whole city for a specific local football jersey I wanted to bring home for a Tanzanian friend but could not find in the shopping malls.

    « Expected more »

I stayed at the Best Western Coral Beach for 2 nights and although this is your typical business hotel, I expected more. I think the wing we were on has seen better days and one could see the signs of wear and tear on the amenities. Room service (a basic Club Sandwich) took forever and was bland at best, my room floor was constantly damp (not sure whether from a leaking fridge or the AC), the beddings were somewhat frayed and one got the distinct feeling that while the room had no visible signs of dirt, it wasn't clean after all. I have to give them the great views of the ocean- that was something I was always happy to get home too. After all is said and done though, if given a choice, It is unlikely I will return.

    « Excellent »

My team and I had a perfect stay at BEST WESTERN CORAL BEACH hotel- the rooms are huge and spotless clean. The best bit being the Indian cuisine, they have a 24 hour small gym and a trainer at hand to give you a thorough workout. Worth every penny spent.

« Great intro to Dar es Salaam »

We recently stayed at the Best Western Coral Beach Hotel at the start of a 10 day visit to Tanzania and Zanzibar. An unexpected treat. We had upgraded to a sea facing room which was clean and very comfortable with a nicely designed working area. The hotel strikes an easy balance between business and leisure. The pool deck, bar and beach area overlook the bay. Altogether a pleasant and romantic setting especially when local musicians are playing. Nice open plan reception area with helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended, good value.

    « We were disappointed »

This hotel was recommended to us and we arrived late in the evening. After much deliberation, due to the steep price, we opted for a suite. We needed some pampering after camping for 6 weeks. The room was beautiful with amazing views, but soon all the problems started. No hot water -- the technician came soon enough but disappeared again -- no one advised us when the water will be hot. We really wanted a hot shower but had to go to bed without it. The pillows were very hard -- I phoned reception to request softer ones and I am still waiting for them. The next morning we wanted to iron our clothes and the iron didn't work -- we wanted to lock our valuables away and the safe didn't work either! Our intention was to stay for 3 nights but we checked out the next morning. We discussed all of this with the staff at reception but the matter wasn't even referred to a manager. What a disappointment! The dinner was excellent but breakfast not that great. Such a pity because the setting of this hotel is amazing.

« Holiday feeling while on business »

I cannot fault this hotel. Very good value for money in relation to what else is available, excellent location and great customer service. Rooms are clean, well air-conditioned and mine had a good view of the bay. A major irritation however was the television service. Really poor quality programming, many channels not working, no major sporting events. Just terrible, really. Would have preferred DStv... And finally, I did not appreciate being harassed at the cocktail bar by a "lady of the night" in full view of the wait staff. Seems it just the norm... Anyway, it made me uncomfortable and I left and went to enjoy my drink in my room. In peace. On that note, the mini-bar is crazy expensive. $3 for a packet of crisps?? All said and done, I would go back.

    « Incredible place! »

My mother and I are travelling and stayed in a basic hotel in the city centre but was invited to spend the day and evening in the coral beach hotel by the management who gave us complimentary drinks and use of the pool.the views are out of this world and the location is so peaceful and serene.the staff are all so welcoming and attentive.we stayed for dinner and ate watching the cub set over the bay for a very reasonable price even for our backpacker budget.we are thankful of the oppertunity to stay here for the day although we did not use the rooms we would recommend this hotel very good service!than you again!rebecca and Patricia England xx

« Nice location, pretty good hotel »

I stayed in the main part of the hotel and the rooms were very clean and well maintained with good facilities. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Also used the hotel gym which has an acceptable range of treadmills and equipment including free weights and an instructor who was helpful in setting up unfamilair equipment and also seemed happy to do impromptu boxing drills. Food was also very good and well presented, with lots of fresh fruit. My only disappointment was the 'beach'. The hotel site says it has a private beach, and it does have a nice sandy strip with chairs and umbrellas and a lovely view over the water - but there's no access to the actual water. It was frustrating to be next to the ocean but unable to go in it. Also have to say the Wifi was very patchy. Sometimes good, mostly not, and requiring multiple re-connections to do anything. It was free but I would happily pay for a better service.
