BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel in Cheshire is just the ticket for a relaxing getaway - which should come as no surprise when we tell you that it's located adjacent to Crewe Railway station (and is the world's first Railway hotel, built in 1830)! For both business and leisure guests, we go all out to make your stay as comfy-cosy as possible. Our job is made easier by the beautiful red brick building we inhabit, which stands out at the entrance to the town and is held in much affection by the many locals and visitors from further afield. Such is the character of our hotel that Queen Victoria and her family stayed here when she travelled from London to Scotland for her annual summer holidays - there's even a tunnel that she used here to avoid walking with the commoners! Hotel restaurant closed on Sunday evenings. The restaurant is also closed for lunch & dinner on bank holidays. Limited cold food is available from the bar. Enjoy your stay!

« Bunch of robbing shysters »

11 minutes sat in the car, waiting for my partner = £100 parking ticket. Needless to say, I won't be using Best Western in the future, in any shape or form. This blatant highway robbery does the brand no favours whatsoever. I'd have (reluctantly) paid, say, £30 for the inadvertent overstay (the signage was not at all clear in the darkness at 8 o'clock in the evening), but £100 for 11 minutes is nauseatingly disproportionate. You should be ashamed of yourselves for associating yourselves with the bunch of crooks called ParkingEye.

One nights stay we found food very tasty breakfast was self service we did not book hotel but went on a bus trip There was a couple of things that were a bit disappointing At 5.6 feet tall I had to stoop to shower I am not that tall bit extra chrome pipe and couple of compression connectors would sort this out Woke up at 6 am on Sunday morning really hot duvet was on floor cold shower with window open thermostat valve turned off Would I go again yes but not in 109 Forgot it is right next to railway station so expect some noise but nothing to upset Staff are brilliant

« Nosey station to rear rooms »

Pleasant enough stay however woken a couple times by the train station next door and the rooms weren't the warmest did have a extra heater though. I'd ask for a top on the roundabout side! I think I was closest to station! Room130. Food was great tho at a reasonable price.

« Would not recommend staying »

Booked the hotel room under the description of Superior double room with bath robes, fruit on arrival and pillow menu. when we got there the room was a lot smaller than the photo on the website and was what I would describe as a basic room. There wasn't any sign of bath robes, fruit or a pillow menu. On complaining at Reception I was told they don't have pillow menus and fruit is only for elite members which is not what it stated on the internet. It was very noisy and I would not recommend staying or ever stay again myself.

    « Good and quirky »

I've written on this place in the past. I was hot annoyed and needlessly ruthless. So I've come back with business again and I've got to say it's such a pleasant place to be. In the interim I've been staining at express places which are around the same price but a little sterile. This is full of character and feeling and if your going to pay the same price why not have a room with high ceilings huge sash windows and beds I can really doze in. There were no double beds available when I arrived but the singles for me, a man of generous proportions(fat) they were so comfortable. I guess it's a cross between faulty towers and something else. But it's worth s try it will grow on you. The food is great so generous and homey Even better are the staff really genuine and good people.

« Great for the railway station and the footy. »

Since this hotel has become a Best Western there has been many positive improvements. The public rooms are light and airy with a nice bar / bistro area and comfortable simple lounge. Breakfast was served in the old but pleasant dining room. The staff were friendly and helpful. As for the bedrooms, they have had a makeover also, especially the bathrooms. Rooms have free wifi, tv, coffee making facilities, iron and board and toiletries. The bed has a soft mattress and the room was pleasantly warm. This is a great place for a short stay as its opposite the railway station and within a 5 minute walk to the football stadium. There are many eateries close by.

« Clean and good value »

One night stay at the Crewe Arms Hotel opposite the station. Checked in late and out early and the staff were really friendly and happy to assist. Room was big enough, very comfy bed and new shower/bath room as good as any other budget or mid range hotel. Couldn't get TV working but could have been me being an idiot and was too tired to be fussed so watched MOTD2 on free wifi! Can't complain at all - would go back.

« Lovely hotel, friendly staff, let down by noisy guests. »

The location is great, across the road from the train station, the check in was fast and friendly, and we were very impressed with the room. Really good sized with very comfy beds, large TV and massive bathroom with bath and shower. Lovely comfortable pillows too. During the night the noise from the other guests was awful and we were woken up 4 or 5 times all through the night by arguing, doors repeatedly slammed, at 4am someone running up and down the corridor singing jingle bells at the top of their voice! It was a Saturday night, so some noise is to be expected, but I have never had this level of noise in a Travelodge or a premier inn (our usual choice). We have stayed in the best western forest hills, and that was lovely too, and we had such a good nights sleep there, but I guess this crewe location attracts a different clientele at the weekend. The food was good, the checkout was fast, but unfortunately I wouldn't stay here again at the weekend due to the noise issue.

This hotel has been completely refurbished and is very comfortable with a cheerful atmosphere throughout the hotel and excellent fare at excellent value, very convenient for the station and a couple of brothels. Five star all round

    « Would stay again. »

I am a rail enthusiast so room 117 overlooking the West Coast main line and Crewe station was perfect . However if you are a light sleeper( sorry about the pun) then rooms on this side of the hotel should be avoided! Breakfast was good as was the meal in the restaurant. However.on my second night there was a coach party in so I had to eat in the bistro. The kitchen staff were obviously overstretched as my burger was edible but cremated!

    « Beautifull hotel »

Exceptional rooms, with very friendly staff looking after us. Breakfast had a good range to suit all. Was in Crewe to celebrate a friends 40th and if I were to be in Crewe again, I would definitely stay again at the Crewe Arms.

    « Fantastic Stay »

Stayed 1 night at this hotel, Twin room excellent, no noise heard from station and everything spotless. Beds comfy. Breakfast the following morning also excellent, staff on hand to assist and a good variety. Reception and Bar staff very pleasant. We will return.

« Yet another stay at CREWE ARMS HOTEL. »

Ideally situated almost opposite Crewe Railway station and within a few miles of the M6 motorway here you will be greeted on arrival by caring members of staff who make you feel most welcome at all times. Good safe car parking on site, don't forget to have your car registration number logged to avoid a parking fine. The en-suite rooms are spotlessly clean and with comfortable beds. The dining area for breakfast and dinner is well laid out and is of a standard that many other hotels would envy yet fail to equal. Breakfast offers a wide choice which should satisfy the needs of everyone. I will return again. JB from the west Highlands of Scotland.

« Great couple of days »

Was in the area for one night and had the hotel booked for us in advance. Found this a great old style Station Hotel, thoroughly modern with fresh décor, very friendly staff, great food, and very comfortable rooms. The room was typical of the older hotels, big room which favourable comperes with more modern hotels where you have difficulty swinging a cat. If in the area again wont hesitate to book there.

« Nice hotel but room for improvement »

We recently stayed here for a weekend break. This review is based purely on our experience at that time. The hotel is a large old building so expect creeky floors. It is very clean throughout and the staff were very friendly. Our room was a good size, clean, had full size bath \\ shower, WC. Tea & Coffee with 2 cups but only 1 pack of biscuits. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel and it is in a very good location easy to get to with a large free car park. The bad \\ petty bits for us were Room was dark no light near mirror so made it difficult to see, no shaver point in bathroom. Our bed was extremely soft which my wife didn't mind but I have a bad back and it gave no support so found it hard to get to sleep and woke with Back pains. The food in the restaurant could be much better. Both our starters were good, pate' and crispy crumbed brie. We both had lamb shanks which were rubbery like boil in the bag and bland not freshly roasted. The mash potatoes with cabbage and bacon were lovely and tasted fresh. The desserts were again bland cheesecake and bread and butter pudding with ready made custard. We asked to see the wine list, the waitress went off to get it but came back to tell us they didn't have one so we just ordered house red. A lady on a nearby table asked what soup it was but the waitress did not know so had to go ask, then the lady asked what vegetables came with the meal again the waitress did not know and had to go ask. Not very good, surely as a waitress you would make sure you knew what was been served. At breakfast we were greeted in the restaurant and our room number taken then told to sit anywhere and help ourselves. Basic full English with a choice of cereals, croissants and pastries. Nothing special and Luke warm. On the second day we stood five minutes and no one appeard so we signed ourselves in. There was no cutlery on the tables so we had to wait for a waitress to appear to ask for some. Overall this is a decent hotel and we would stay again if in the area but just feel that some things need to be reviewed. On checking out they had forgotten to add the bottle of wine to our bill so I had to point it out to them. One last point to note is that the hotel is right next to the railway station so expect some noise.

« Excellent value great food friendly staff »

Really great visit. After working all day until 8pm we arrived to a friendly young lady on reception who kindly advised that we were welcome to go for food but due to a coach party arrival we were best to wait for half an hour. When we went for the food it was great quality and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Good nights sleep then we had an amazing cooked breakfast. Can't wait to stay again.

    « Extremely Comfortable Beds!! »

This hotel has the most comfortable beds and pillows ever! The room was very clean and all the appliances worked....the iron was brilliant. All staff were extremely pleasant and the breakfast was delicious. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

    « SUPERB RESTAURANT »

We weren't staying at the Crewe Arms but just had dinner there and from the moment we walked through the doors to paying our pleasing inexpensive bill had a great time. Lovely food, excellent staff and hot plates. what more could we have wanted.

« Mixed opinions on business trip »

Me and 9 of my colleagues stayed here in September for one evening. In general the hotel was okay, a bit run down and the rooms are all of different standards. One of my colleagues had sky TV with a large bed and another had a small room and a broken TV. If you like trains, this is the place for you. Continuous noise from the platforms and shaking as the trains came past. Breakfast was generally poor, would not advise paying for this. This said, I have to praise the staff who were lovely and couldn't be more helpful. Well run place, just a shame about the food and some of the rooms and bad. Giving this "3* - Average"

« Good hotel but beware of the noise »

I stayed broke my rail journey from Hereford to Maryport with an overnight stay at the Crewe Arms Hotel choosing it in part because it was a trusted brand and in part because of its proximity to the railway station. The public areas have clearly been refurbished in recent times and are bright, clean and pleasant. My single room was ample in proportion and looked out over the adjacent railway station. That wasn't a problem for me, but being a humid night, I had to keep the window open and the noise of passing trains etc. might disturb the light sleeper. The buffet breakfast the following morning was very tasty with plenty of choice. Overall, I enjoyed the Crewe Arms and would stay again.

« Fairly Good stay in this hotel »

i stayed on a business overnighter: The Good: I had a brilliant nights sleep in a soft comfy relatively high bed. A proper sized bath, with an overbath shower. The bathroom felt fairly modern. Good size flat screen with sky TV, including movies. There were plenty of plug sockets in the bedroom. Reception was welcoming. The Not so good: The general decor in the communal areas felt unmodern -particularly the carpets, and dining room. The breakfast was not so good, plenty to choose but not good quality - particularly the hot food. The bacon was good, the sausage was tasteless, fried eggs sat there overcooked with hard yolks, beans were ok, but the fat used for mushrooms and hash browns tasted like reused takeway fat (maybe harsh, but it is rare that i leave half a plateful of food. That said there were yoghurts, fresh fruits, cereals, so plenty of other food. Overall some strong points but some weaknesses making it somewhere between average and good.

    « A mixed bag »

The room was lovely - large and comfortable. Free wifi in rooms is a big plus. Earplugs kept away the train noise. Hot water isn't hot - more like luke warm - so forget about a nice relaxing hot bath at the end of the day. We stayed with a coach tour and I can only say the meals were dreadful. We ate there one night only and had mush and frozen vegetables. Didn't bother eating there any more even though it was included in our coach package. Others reported each day that the meals were awful. Ate one night at the lovely Premier Inn just down the road who told us the regular chef at Crewe Arms is away. Possibly this is so, don't know. I do know that if I had not taken another lovely coach tour with Alpha I would never travel with them again. This hotel is way below standard for Alfa.

    « One night »

Stated for one night 10th September. We were extremely impressed with the Crewe Arms and felt comfy as soon as we walked through the door. Friendly efficient staff, clean cosy room and a sparkling bathroom. Bed was very comfortable.. Breakfast was hot and tasty and had lots of choice, the waitresses were very efficient and approachable. The only thing I would suggest would be to move the tea and coffee station from it's central position to perhaps a corner on it's own, only because it causes gridlock with people choosing their breakfast and those doing beverages. That said, would be visit again ? Yes, most definitely. Fab stay !

« BW Crewe Arms Hotel »

Check-in was slow and staff member was not friendly...no smiles. Was asked if I wanted a morning paper to which I said yes but I never received this the next morning. The room was very comfortable and the decoration was modern. Breakfast was fine and the restaurant staff were friendly and yes they did smile

    « BEST WESTERN HOTEL - CREWE »

The hotel is right next to the main rail station which was extremely useful for us. All the staff there were warm and welcoming, the room was very clean and tidy and quiet. We had a meal there during our stay and the quality of food was excellent although perhaps waiting for our main course was a little longer than would be expected but then they were very busy. All in all a very nice stay!

« Yet another stay at Best Western Crewe. »

Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. Spotlessly clean bedroom and well equipped en-suite bathroom. A short walk from Crewe train station. Within easy reach of M6 motorway. Ideal base for visits to Alton Towers or Chester and Zoo.

« no lighting in room »

Staff are really helpful and lovely but arrived to use the disabled room with wet room and there was no lighting in the room at all which couldn't be fixed. power sockets worked but no lights Appeared that the room hadn't been used in a while or serviced recently, no tea or coffee on the service tray and dindt really look like it had been cleaned recently.

« Avoid the rooms at the back »

Stayed here for one night after a wedding at crewe hall. The hotel itself is nice, staff were very pleasant, happy to get us a taxi etc and gave me a toothbrush as I forgot mine! Rooms very spacious, lovely bed. The only thing I have to complain about is the room we got literally backed onto crewe station!! And I mean RIGHT on it. Considering the hotel seemed empty I thought this was a bit unfair. So sleeping with the window open was impossible as from 6am every single train was announced loudly and you felt like you was lying on the track with the noise. So cue us melting in the room because of the heat! Other than that no complaints!

    « Standard accommodation »

We stayed at this hotel after attending my sons wedding at Crewe Hall. The room we booked was a superior room for 4 which was to include extras we were listed when we booked as being available in our rooms. We have stayed at other Best Western hotels before. The location is good with plenty of parking. Make sure you hand in your car registration when you check in. When we arrived, the rooms were not as shown on the Best Western site we booked from. When we booked the superior room was supposed to have a basket of fruit, dressing gowns, slippers and drinks. None of these were in our room. We did report this to reception and when we returned after the evening reception, 1 bottle of water, a slice of fruit cake and a cookie were left to share as compensation between 4 of us. The other room was supposed to have a cot. This was not in the room and we were then given a travel cot which had a lump on the frame at the base so was not used. Sufficient towels we not placed in the second room, neither did it have toiletries as the other did. We returned to the hotel very late. The beds were comfortable, were quite big and of a reasonable standard. They were not up to the standard of others in the chain. We had breakfast in the hotel which was very basic. On speaking to the only manager on site, who said he was not able to resolve the issue, if we paid our bill in full he would pass our comments on. Whilst I was happy to pay, it was not going to be the full rate. He said he had no authority to discount our rooms and I contacted a lovely lady called Helen at Best Western head office who offered to speak to the hotel on our behalf. She said facilities offered were what each hotel had given them details of. She duly contact the Hotel. We did receive a discount on one of the rooms as compensation. I was told that nobody had brought up these items missing before. If you book a room and are offered certain facilities and extras they should be available when you arrive.

« Service above and beyond »

I was staying at the Crewe Arms Hotel as I had an early train to catch in the morning from the station opposite. Whilst booking in I realised that breakfast service wouldn't start early enough for me to be able to eat and still have time to catch my train. The receptionist, Amy, contacted the kitchen staff on my behalf and arranged for them to serve my breakfast at 7.30am instead of 8am (including the hot items). By the time she had managed to arange this I had left the hotel for a while and so she rang me on my mobile to let me know that special arrangements had been made. I regard this as service above and beyond what I would normally expect (and I have stayed in a lot of hotels over the years!) The food was excellent with a good choice and tasty sausages. My room was also of good size, clean and well equiped. All in all, I was very happy with my stay, and would recommend this hotel to others (just ask for a quiet room otherwise you could be overlooking the railway).

    « Very nice stay »

We stayed here for two nights recently. This is a typical, old, railway station hotel. A few creaky floorboards add to the character. It was clean and tidy, staff were very friendly ( big mention to Adam and Rhys for their help, nothing too much trouble), and breakfast ( the only meal we had) was nice. Very good value for money and we would certainly stay again.

    5
    « Another Great stay »

Just got back from here on Tuesday (we stayed 3 nights while visiting family), this is our second stay here this year. What can I say the staff were as always lovely, the room clean & tidy (had a bigger room this time - I wonder if I can request it next time we come?). There's really not much I can say that I haven't said in previous reviews, we've stayed in a few places in Crewe but mostly prefer the Crewe Arms, we can honestly say we have NEVER had any problems here or a bad stay. So thanks everyone :)

    5
    « Excellent lunch »

We visited here prior to attending a football match, the bar was closed due to the match but they kindly opened the restaurant. We had the three course option for under a tenner. There were two of us, we started with soup / pate, followed by homemade steak pie and then apple pie, all of which was very tasty, well prepared and served with a smile.

« Good but bit old »

Just to summarize pros and cons of this stay: Pros: - very clean - friendly stuff - very good proper English breakfast - enough car park space just outside hotel - good location (about 1.5km away from big shopping center, opposite side of the road from train station) Cons: - bit old - elevator does not go to the floor but higher so the luggage and buggie need to be carried few steps down to get your floor - room not very spacious (just enough to stick in travel cot for baby) - no kids club

    4
    « Convenient location »

Stayed here as we needed a convenient stopover between Manchester and Birmingham. The rate was good and they had availability. Room was a good size, with a shower over the bath. Despite being on a main road close the railway, we weren't disturbed by any noise from the road. Decor was somewhere between traditional and dated, but good for the price. Breakfast consisted of a good selection of buffet English Breakfast, cereals and fruit. Staff were attentive. Would stay again. All in all, good value, convenient location and staff were very friendly and polite.

    « Betley court farm »

We arrived here at 1:40pm service with a smile checked in was quick, our room was ready but we wanted to have lunch before we went to Betley concert, Adam was very welcoming and took us to our table, dinner was finishing at 2pm but the a staff was happy to take out order at 1:50pm. We both ordered the fish & chips. What a lovely size portion we had, fish was beautiful and there was plenty of chips.. Really enjoyed our dinner.. Adam very kindly pre ordered our taxi to Betley which we was going to for the night. The room we had 234 was lovely twin bedroom, over looking the railway but that wasn't a problem we very rarely heard the trains certainly wasn't noisy. Plenty of tea/coffee facilities.. Bathroom was lovely size. There must've been a leak in the bedroom once as the walls had what looked like a leak stain on the walls not sure? Will add a picture but that was a little niggle of the room.. Our pre booked taxi arrived on time and we was out our destination in 15mins. Taxi to Betley was £15.. On returning from our venue we arrived at 10:40 I asked Dan at reception for some more teas & milk which wasn't a problem.. Trains were still running which we couldn't hear, getting off to sleep wasn't a problem.. Breakfast in the morning was a hot buffet and cold buffet plenty for everyone. Checking out was quick again by Dan.. Would highly recommend this hotel.

    « Disgusting »

Went in for a friend's leaving do for a drink. Was turned away at the door because they had no running water. Turned around and left and then got harnessed for months because I didn't leave my car registration at reception. For the 14 minutes I was in there

    4
« Good location and comfortable »

We stayed here for 4 nights. We were upgraded to a suite so it was nice. Breakfast was decent as there were hot and cold options. This is an old building where the floor cranks if somebody walks but all in all a good hotel with the bus stop right outside the hotel. There was car parking too which we did not use. Tesco express is 2 minutes walk which comes in very handy. The only thing is that there should be some glasses in the room (they provided only 2 plastic glasses for 4 nights). Also, at least one water bottle should be provided everyday. All in all a good stay.

    4
    « Short stay break »

Booked this hotel through Superbreak for a 2 night stay. On arrival it transpired the hotel had not received any detail from Superbreak. The staff at the hotel worked wonders and made sure we had a room for the 2 nights, what a relief. The room was excellent. Tea and coffee facilities provided. The down side was that we like to have a window open for fresh air and the railway is very close by and yes you guessed, we got some noise in the early hours but the comfort of the bed made up for this. The breakfast was excellent and chef did vegetarian sausages for one of us. We had an excellent evening meal on the second night, I can recommend the vegetable curry. Overall a good stay. Used the train nearby to go into Chester, regular trains run.

« Noisy and No service with a smile »

We stayed here on Saturday 23 July. The location of the hotel is near a busy roundabout near the railway station. The hotel has creaking floorboards .This hotel has a lot of history but the staff are not educated to answers questions like was the fireplace in reception original. We had to wait a while for the women to come to the reception desk and there was no service with a smile. It was very hot in our room and when we asked for a fan we were told there were none . When we were checking out there was no one on the reception desk but it said ring the bell for service well there was no bell and my husband had to ask one of the breakfast staff . The women who checked us in also checked us out and there was no how was your stay or dId you enjoy your stay.

    « Stay in Crewe »

The hotel is at a convenient location close to Crewe station. The service was friendly especially the staff at breakfast who offered to go to Tesco next door to get natural yoghurt for me. Breakfast was okay but too greasy to my liking. The room fine but there was still a winter duvet on the bed so quite warm. All in all a good no fuss hotel and good value for money.

« Worst room I have ever stayed in »

A very unprofessional hotel, seems to be run by eighteen year olds with the occasional older person, not impressed with the staff, attention at breakfast time was laughable. The worst thing was our room, I cannot believe that this hotel chain find it acceptable to have a floor when walking on it was so noisy that if one of the occupants get up in the night to use the bathroom then the other will definitely be woken. To add to this we had a fire door outside our room which is in continual use and bangs every time it is used, all it needs is a soft close fitted. The room (114) overlooks the platform to Crewe station and the noise is impossible to deal with. From 5.30am there are announcements for different trains coming and going and the noise of the trains was unbearable. I will not consider another Best Western hotel ever again based on our experience in this woeful place and to say the decor needs updating is another story altogether, poor on every level.

    « OK for a Short Stay »

Stayed here for a few nights in July, Room was nice, good facilities and Clean. The staff are very nice too, although they seem short staffed and they are constantly under pressure. Found the dinner in the bar to be ok. The breakfast though is not good. Food left on a hot plate that is not very hot at all. Seems to be there for ages. Second morning we went down stairs at 0830 everything had been taken away so we had to order, so at least it was fresh and hot. Management, Please do something with the breakfast arrangements....

    « Coach party »

Stayed one night dinner bed and breakfast as part of a coach group. Reception was effecient and friendly. Double room was small though big enough, clean and well equipped, including an electric fan. Television was too low to view from bed, and only one chair for two people, though this seems to be the norm. Bed was high and comfortable, but too soft for me. Nice bathroom, nice towels and toiletries. Shower was over the bath, and was tricky to use at first. Plenty of hot water. Dinner, apart from first course, was buffet style, served in a very nice "private" dining room.Excellent, friendly waiting staff both at dinner and breakfast. Meal was nice, but nothing spectacular-as was the breakfast-but there was plenty of food, and anyone who came away hungry had only themselves to blame. Public rooms are very modern, and not particularly welcoming (the rooms, not the staff). Overall, a pleasant stay.

The best thing about this hotel is how close it is to the train station. I stayed one night as it was convenient for me to catch the train in the morning. The hotel is not particularly nice. It was the hottest day of the year and there is no air conditioning, but at least there was a fan in the room that I had to keep on all night. There is a kettle but no water int he room. The food was not good at all. I had the steak pie which was a huge dish of frozen vegetables, greasy chips and lots and lots of gravy. So I didn't eat much of it and I ended up walking to a petrol station close by that has a Tesco to buy some nibbles. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Overall this is just a convenient place to sleep, but

    « A real Suprise »

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at this hotel. The staff were so friendly right from the start and stayed that way right to the end. The location was good (a little noise from the trains). The room was pf a good size and very clean. I had the basic sky package and free wi-fi. Breakfast was good and plenty of gluten free options. The evening meal was good value for money.

    « Somewhere to avoid »

We go here usually when other places are booked. Let me start by saying the people here work damn hard under ridiculous circumstances. The hotel is a grand building that deserves better management. I came down for breakfast in the restaurant to find the air conditioning on the hottest day of the year was left off. The refrigerated plate to keep fruit cool turned off the butter therefore was more like a packet of oil. The bread stale and stuff. The eggs looked like they'd been there for over an hour heaven for bid they should cook fresh ones. My colleague had to wait 20 mins because he'd forgot the order for poached. We stupidly held our morning meeting there and when we asked for iced water no ice because sportingly the machine had broken. Then a full glass of ice water was taken to a manager doing some bookwork next to us. Being a little put out I asked for ice water to be told the machine had broken yet the person over there ..... Oh yes he'd ordered it. Please lousy service go us the customers however if your a manager no worries. So lousy breakfast lousy equipment. Mr western this is certainly no where near your best. It's a great location a great building and hard working staff but with management who seem more inclined to save money than to offer service. Stay away please stay well away

Checked in last night, receptionist wasn't rude but hardly helpful. So when I decided that I wanted something to eat at 9.20pm I was told they had stopped doing food at 8.30. What kind of hotel stops doing food that early? Off to Mc Donalds then, as there's not much else about. Interestingly I'd only seen 4 other people eating here, presumably from a different menu from that on the website, as it's out of date. The room was ok, if dated but overlooked the road. Being a bit stuffy I had the windows open so noise was a bit of an issue until the local Chavs got bored of tearing up and down the road at least. Not a game changer though. So to breakfast. Waited 5 mins to be seated, then had to go and find the waitress 5 mins later as I had been left to my own devices. Didn't fancy the disgusting looking 'buffet', greasy eggs and hash browns like I'd never witnessed before, limp and sloppy. Just how do you do THAT?! So I ask for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Well, 3 mins later I'm told they have no salmon (I could have run across the road to Tesco and bought them some, but it's not down to me to do the obvious). I also asked for a ham and mustard sandwich to take to work with me. Ten minutes later I'm told they have no ham. Come on, there's a shop across the road - if they can't offer what's on the menu why not pop across and get some? Anyway, I ask for poached eggs on toast. It arrives. Eggs are overdone and the salt shaker dumps the contents of the Boniville salt flats onto it. So in short? This hotel fails on customer service and from my limited and hopefully final experience, food quality.

    « Business Meeting / Conference »

We've used The Crewe Arms Hotel for meetings as it's a great location just across the road from the train station and with very easy access to the M6. Room hire is at reasonable price with catering facilities laid on. All meeting rooms are of good size. Can't fault the place really. Will be back! ??

Ideally situated across the road from Crewe train station. Friendly and welcoming staff. Bedrooms are well appointed and always spotlessly clean. Excellent safe on site free car parking. On arrival remember to register your car details to avoid parking charge.

    « Delightful visit »

Today a group of 15 of us attended the hotel for an AGM and lunch. Unlike my friends , having never visited the hotel before I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The meeting room facilities were spacious and adequate for our requirements with ample coffee, tea and biscuits provided.. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff very attentive and polite. We had a buffet lunch consisting of a choice of meat pie, chicken in white wine sauce , veg , rice or chips , salad and for desert a. choice of cheesecake or crumble. All choices were lovely and clearly freshly cooked. The waiting on staff were wonderful and provided us with a fabulous service. Thank you to all for making it a lovely day.

    « Great Customer Service »

Check in was excellent with plenty of information and an offer to help with bags etc. Unfortunately the room we had been allocated originally was not as per our booking confirmation however the lady on reception went out of her way to make sure she could do as much as possible to put things right. Once this was sorted out we had a very good stay, The room was clean and bright with a modern bathroom. Shower not the most powerful we have had but worked fine. We didn't experience much noise even with the windows slightly open. Breakfast was buffet style which worked really well. Location is about a 20 min walk to the centre of Crewe right opposite the train station. Parking no problem just had to give our car details in at reception. Great customer service a credit to Best Western.

    « Comfortable stay »

This hotel is an old style hotel with creaky floorboards and old character. Food is ample. Not much of a menu but all hotels seem to be going down this route. Not much of a view from rooms that are clean and tidy. Usual tea and coffee plus TV in each room.

« An imposing building, but less so through the threshold »

The Crewe Arms Hotel is a Best Western, on a roundabout almost exactly opposite the well known huge Crewe Station, both inexplicably about one mile from Crewe town. The hotel is an enormous Victorian-looking pile and it took us a while wandering around the equally huge hotel car park to find the entrance door. We then found the bar, where we were the only customers. Indeed, all the time we were there we only saw one other couple who we suspected had only come in to use the lavatories. Oh, and we saw the bar person who trebled as greeter and receptionist. It was as cold as Siberia in there and I mean the temperature and not the atmosphere. We had a nice enough couple of bottles of wine, but thought we would give the menu a miss. Where the owners of the mass of cars parked in the hotel grounds were remained a mystery.

    « Conference Hosting »

The venue hosted our AGM. Beforehand there was good communication with the events team when making the arrangements, and they were proactive and innovative in finding solutions to our particular requirements. My experience on the day was that there was good attention to detail and the staff were efficient and responsive when required, with the conference room being clean and well prepared, A special mention is made for Rachel for her support on the organisation of the event, and to Amy for her front of house management of the arrangements on the day.

« Someone silence that Train Tanoy »

Stayed here for one night to get a good night sleep before visiting Reaseheath College the next day. Can't fault the hotel itself. Lovely big twin room (Room 102), clean and tidy, friendly staff, lovely full English breakfast the next morning but OMG that bloody train Tanoy!!! Bing bong Bing Bong till about 12.30am and then it started again at 5.30am (& I had earplugs in) the windows do absolutely nothing to silence and reduce the noise. I actually checked the windows 3 times because I thought they were somehow open. I know the train station is not the hotels fault but they really need to do something about reducing the amount of noise you can hear from the train station. If you do stay here ask for a room away from the train side. Also would have been nice to have a curtain or blind on the bathroom window. The shower is right next to the window, my daughter had to have a shower in the dark otherwise all the people on the platform would have had an interesting view whilst waiting for their train. Sorry but i definitely will not be staying at this hotel again and due to our complete lack of sleep I personally would not recommend staying here unless you are a very heavy sleeper and can sleep through anything

    3
« It may look old and unfashionable - but try it. I like it. »

I chose this hotel because of location, and known facilities (Best Western, three ***). On the down side some rooms can be noisy - being alongside a busy road and railway. But it's location in the middle of Crewe, and with parking, is a plus. Restaurant menu is not very adventurous but perfectly acceptable. And bar has limited choice. I've stayed there before and probably will again.

« Holiday for family from canada »

The hotel was very clean and tidy, room was good with two king size beds, bath room was very clean and tidy. But. A few issues with only one towel for three, when asked this was quickly rectified, run out of toilet paper, only two tea bags for three, forgot to wash one of the mugs up. so a few tweets and it would have been great.

    3
« Hard to sum up - Ok probably does the job »

It's just average. Room clean & tidy if a bit outdated. Lacks any sort of interesting period touches & at the same time does not reflect what you would expect in a 'corporate chain'. The public areas downstairs are spacious but some what devoid of furniture - it resembles some sort of departure lounge. The bar is small with a limited selection, while the (empty) restaurant (probably due to their pricing) is large & was laid out nicely. I did not think the room only price was a bargain - though I might have got a bad deal. This said the place was almost empty. I booked purely for the closeness to Crewe Station. I stayed one night because I was going to The Lyceum Theatre (wonderfull building). Have no idea how you spend any time longer than one day as (sorry Crewe) I could not find anything else of interest to do. Have a gripe with the outdoor smoking area. The sand buckets were full & fag buts everywhere. I know it is probably a Health & Safety issue for a staff member to deal with this. If this is the case ban smoking on the premises completely.

« Friendly helpful Staff, tired building »

All staff are friendly and helpful and always try their best to help. Good value for money and really convenient for Crewe train station across the road! Food is good value. Rooms are somewhat tired and could do with a little TLC and there is road noise which is made worse when the temperature is high and the windows open.

    « Note Up In »

This is an old and formally grand building that in places still retains some character. ?It has large open spaces and feels spacious. I really don't know what to make of some of the décor; it is a mix of different ages and styles that don't always complement each other. Some of it is akin to a stately home, some of it is like a seaside holiday bar. For me there are basic hotel requirements: safe, clean, comfortable, quiet and stable (unless you're on a boat). Anything else is a bonus. ?The BW Crewe Arms is safe and clean. Bordered on 2 sides by busy roads and on 1 ?1/2 sides by the railway this is never going to be a tranquil retreat. Crewe is an old railway town and if you get a room away from the main roads you are able to witness first-hand the increased intensity of rail services that recent investment has provided. Turns out that trains seem to operate late into night. My ear plugs did a good job of muting the antics of Thomas and Friends, but they weren't much use against the rather disconcerting room shaking that accompanies some of the passing rolling stock. It's like having a random 10p a go vibro bed (apparently). There was no double glazing to help reduce the obvious noise. This seems to be a hot hotel that heats up during the night. So you get a choice; open a window for more noise and a breeze, or keep the window closed for less noise and a slow cook. In the common areas a cooling flow of air is achieved by propping open the rear doors and the internal fire-doors. ?Food dinner: heavy and maybe a bit unimaginative. Tasted and presented OK apart from the chips. These chips were worse than from the Mayflower seaside take away in Leigh-on-Sea, which I hate to say this makes them the worst ever. It appears that the spuds were soaked in oil, briefly warmed up and left for a few days to go soggy. I didn't eat them. Yuck. Food breakfast: not quiet average. I had to go wondering to find staff, with one notable exception, they didn't seem too interested in what was going on. I managed to get a mildly warm boil in the bag kipper, the breakfast room was much hotter than the food. I think the fish warmed up as it sat on my table, maybe I should have left it for a while. My room was big and nice enough, I liked it a lot. I ordered a newspaper, they didn't. So I took the free one; that saved me £1.

« Great hotel and value for money »

I can actually say that although the town isn't all that great, my actual stay at the Crewe arms hotel would have to be one of my favourite hotels that I've ever been to. My room 224 which was around the back of the hotel had a great view of the railway as well as the carpark! Got lost trying to find my room the first time, but the receptionist soon pointed me in the right direction. Not sure about the other parts of the hotel but where I was, it was really quiet at night. Sometimes could hear the odd train go though but with the window closed, you hardly hear anything. But as for the bed, that was so comfy! Breakfast was very basic. But for me cereal, yogurt and a glass of orange is enough for me. A couple of things to mention about my room which there was a huge stain on the wall, next to the window, and the window itself had condensation on the inside. Also, the last evening at the hotel, there was a problem with the toilet where it wouldn't flush and had no cold water from the basin, I mentioned this to the receptionist and said someone was going to deal, but that never happened. Mentioned it again to one of the room cleaners and she put this down on paper. I heard one of the other rooms had the same problem too. If I decide to return to Crewe again in the future, I shall return to this hotel despite the problems at the end

Staff very helpful, room warm and comfortable. However a little disappointed in the breakfast. Hotel very convenient for visitors especially train travellers. Have stayed at this hotel before when visiting family.

« Be ashamed at your food service levels »

Kind of thought after the last time we had a meeting here it couldn't get any worse, it was bad then, it was worse this time. Whilst the building is impressive and access to Crewe station is almost opposite, and that's why you get 2* - that's about all it has going for it. Bar/waiting staff as drab as a wet weekend at a Butlins camp, absolutely no welcome nor greeting, made to feel we were a burden - for goodness sake liven up. We ordered a chicken salad, 2 pasta dishes and toad in the hole.. Chicken salad arrives after 30 minutes, then we waited 15 minutes for next 2 dishes to arrive and 1 was completely forgotten about and had to be re-ordered. To top it off, we asked for 2 Soda Waters and lime and were served 2 pints of cider and lime, would you not question such a concoction ? When we asked them to be changed, they were left on the bar for 10 mins until a dithery barman toddled through and corrected his error. It would end in divorce if you took you partner here for a romantic meal, dreadfully sorry if the truth hurts, but I give praise where it's due, sadly in this case you don't deserve any praise for the food or food service offered.

« Treat place to stay »

Stayed here when we went to watch Doncaster Rovers play Crewe, staying for 2nights, we had a great weekend, staff were very friendly and accommodating, food in restaurant was excellent, will definitely be back when we play Crewe next season. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

    « Rip off parking »

I had a coffee and light bite at The Crewe Arms whilst waiting for my husband to pick me up after work. He pulled into the car park, never left the car and was there for exactly12 minutes while he waited for me to finish up and then we left. Guess what? We received a parking ticket for £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days. I appealed but they only want to make money so of course I've had to pay the fine. The staff are friendly and it's looking a lot better after the refurb but I won't be going back.

    « Reasonably comfortable »

Be careful when you book a room here. You will be told that there is no noise from the train station opposite.... Wrong!!! If you have a room at the front you can hear all the announcements even tho the hotel is supposed to be double glazed!! The lobby, restaurant and bar are very sparse and have a cold atmosphere however the rooms are very pleasant, the beds are incredibly comfortable, I had six really good nights sleep ( I must find out what make the mattresses are!!) and the staff are very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble especially from reception and the bar. Other than making sure you don't book a room at the front I would definately recommend this hotel providing they check their car park for unwanted visitors...... I think they will know what I mean!!!!

    « Railway station. »

When I got to the best western on Friday at 11PM I had room 102 with 2 other girls who I knew. We got there and there was a sofa bed and I felt sore underneath. Anyway at night you could hear the tannoy of the train station.

« Very comfortable, friendly staff and great food »

Stayed here for a night on a weekend away and found the room very comfortable, had a really good night's sleep. It was quiet (we were a bit worried it wouldn't be as it's next to the station)! Difficult to get the shower temperature right though. The staff were really welcoming and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious and nice choice of menu. Good bottle of wine was very inexpensive compared to London prices!

    « Sunday Lunch »

We used to be regular Sunday lunchers a few years ago when the hotel was family owned. Subsequent changers of ownership and an apparent lack of care for the building meant we ceased our visits - parts of the hotel were in desperate need of a refurbishment and the food had become somewhat indifferent. Last year we decided, following the acquisition by Best Western, to try the Christmas lunches. Excellent. The décor is much improved and the restaurant provides a first class experience. We have now resumed our Sunday lunch visits. The menu is varied and reasonably extensive - yesterday (10 April) there were 5 starters, 6 mains plus a vegetarian option and 4 desserts. Food is no-frills but well prepared and presented - if you want Heston Blumenthal forget it. Staff are friendly and attentive. As we knew we would be arriving towards the end of the service we decided to pre-order. Sunday menus are available late morning. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price with the added bonus of no preparation, no cooking and no cleaning up afterwards. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel restaurant

« Faulty towers but still enjoyed our stay »

Room 224, first impressions were ok, furniture needed a good was down especially behind the tv. Bed over comfortable, bathroom clean but then we found water seeping up around the floor tiles. Tv didn't get a signal. Window had about 1" of water on the inside of the double glazing and a bad damp patch down wall. No outside bettering on that stretch, hence the damp. Moved to 228. Again very nice but could also do with a wash down on drawers and wardrobe. This time the tv remote wouldn't work neither would the kettle. These were changed for us by a very charming young man. No light bulb in one of over the bed lights. Milk off in the morning but again sorted by a very nice receptionist. Meal the night before was very good. Could do with a good clean up outside as no ashtray in smoking shelter, empty bottles strewn down steps from bridge, smokers congregating outside main door as shelter has no top if it rains. But somehow we still liked the hotel and would probably stay again.

    « British Rail Reunion, Friday 11th March 2016 »

British Rail Computing held their 8th Reunion at the Hotel. The location is across the road from the Railway Station and so is ideal for visitors arriving by train. Once again, a special thank you must go to Rachael and all the staff for being so kind and attentive throughout the day. One cannot fault or criticise in any way the efforts that were made to make our event once again a great success. The 3-course lunch with two choices for each course was again beautifully prepared, very enjoyable home-cooked food at a very fair price. I think the high quality and consistency maintained since 2012 speaks for itself as the numbers for lunches have steadily increased over that period. Regarding the recently refurbishment of the Hotel, whilst this has been welcomed in some respects, unfortunately, the general consensus of opinion is that the lounge/bar area looks somewhat unfinished. With stark painted walls, no carpet and curtains, the area is featureless, noisy and unpleasant ? that warm, cosy and intimate atmosphere with comfortable furnishings has, sadly, been lost. This is in stark contrast to the now beautifully refurbished Restaurant and Albert Room which has that warmth and appeal completely in character with a beautiful Victorian building.

« Lovely hotel to stay in »

I have started staying at this hotel semi-regularly for business as I have a client nearby. It is an ancient railway hotel which has been recently refurbished, so you have the best of both worlds. I especially like that every room is different. Wifi, beds, fittings, etc. are all good. The food is not as fancy as at some places but fancy food has its horrors too. The wine list is better than I might have expected. This is a station hotel, and Crewe is a big station, so some of the rooms have train noise. I have found the rooms at the back of the hotel to be perfectly quiet. I shall be staying here a lot more (I hope) this year and beyond.

« Ok for a coffee and snack waiting for a train »

This place is right next to the station so really handy if you are waiting for a train, food and service could be better but it has been refurbished since my last visit so it is actually better than what it was. Coffee was ok!

    « Very Noisy »

I was trying to sleep before I decided to write this review. My room (105) is at the front of the hotel and the noise from the road is beyond reasonable. The sash window does not close properly and there is no secondary glazing, to top it off the radiator is missing its thermostat and cannot be switched off. Spoke to reception to ask if I could change room due to noise , response was only spare room was next door and the noise can't be helped as they are next to the train station. The noise issue was not the trains but the road. Food in the restaurant was ok but to assume customers would be happy sharing vegetable and chips on the same table I think is a bit presumptuous, I am here on business not with family. Our company regularly use Best Western Hotels but I certainly won't be recommending this one.

    3
« Cozy, friendly, clean, but not the best food »

Very close to the station, walking distance from the town centre (about 20 minutes), this hotel was conveniant for my business trip to Crewe. The receptionists were friendly and helpful; the rooms / bathroom were clean and modernised, we had TV, Wifi, basic tea/coffee facilities. However, it was rather too hot, and apparently not possible to turn off the central heating, even though this was June last year, and not cold. I don't recommend the dining room. The menu sounded good, and it wasn't cheap, so I expected a good evening meal. However, it was disappointing; I found it somewhat inedible. Breakfast was adequate (at best). Packet cereals, long life soggy croissants, very little variety, but the coffee was good quality, and fresh.

    1
« Check Out - not to return »

This is a hotel I will not use again. I had to be given 3 different rooms before I found one which accepted. The first was noisy from waht sounded like external ventilation fan. The volume on the TV was not controlable but was SKY. Room 2 did not have SKY and the TV would not turn on. Room 3 did not have SKY but at least it worked. The lighting over the work surface/Desk was non existant. i dined in the bar. My soup was very salty. The sweet was very good but the menu was mundane.

    3
    « Very dissapointed »

There were about 26 of us for a family lunch the service seemed disorganised and there wasn't enough food. I had melon ( it was a small portion ) but nice , my main was pork there were 2 rather small pieces with about a tablespoon ( if that ) of gravy. There weren't a lot of veg at all and there weren't really enough roast potatoes to go round the only good thing was dessert. That was nice. But , even so , my small appetite wasn't satisfied. It was lovely spending time with the family but I wouldn't return.

    3
    « Disappointed »

We went on a family get together for a meal, the company was the best part. The food was poor and we came away hungry after a three course meal. The staff were disorganised, food portions were poor, more like rations and the drink prices were high. For a glass of Rose and a pint of San Miguel was a tenner. First visit there and we will not be returning in a hurry, thank God we did not arrange our wedding for this place.

    2
    « Odd, very odd »

Oh, I wish I liked this hotel more but I have to say I wouldn't really hurry back because it's one of those places that doesn't know whether it's Arthur or Martha. Is it an old fashioned station hotel or is it ultra modern budget accommodation? I don't know, and I don't expect anyone else does either. Well, you never know what you're getting with a Best Western. It's always an adventure! The first adventurous thing you are faced with in the lobby is the most marvellous 19th century marble fireplace about 8ft high and 12 ft wide. It is a thing of splendour, and it sits defiantly against the grey, featureless wall as a sad reminder of better times long gone. As for the rest of the building, there's nothing about the place that demolition wouldn't improve no end. They've tried to gussy the place up and, as mentioned, the walls are very grey. Yes siree bob, those walls are grey. It's a modern, uber cool kind of grey, plus a darker grey thing going on with the woodwork. They're kind of greys you might expect in the lobby of a PR firm staffed by 26 year old hipsters. And the chairs in the bar are bright radiant plastics in various jolly colours. Perhaps the interior designer was be-gloomed by the greyness thing and thought some primary style colours in the corner might cheer the place up. They don't. Searching for my bedroom was interesting. I met my colleague in her room for a drink, and then couldn't find my room afterwards. And no, it wasn't the gin. The corridors don't link up at all and I kept finding myself at the end of cul-de-sacs. There's absolutely no sense to the building nor to the way the rooms are numbered. My room was eventually discovered by taking the lift to the first floor, going through a double doorway, down three steps, through another doorway, along a corridor with a few turns in it and then up two flights of stairs. Oh, and it's very nippy. They could do with whacking the heating up. The rooms - when you get there - are serviceable in a travelodge kind of way. The breakfast is serviceable. You know, if only this gaff had been £50 smackeroos per person per night, I'd have given it a better review. But it cost considerably more than that and as such, I'd expect a much warmer hotel and a much warmer welcome.

    « Below expections »

We attended a social evening, meal and a speaker. Not good. Food was below par, room was OK (ish) parking was AWFUL. We all got tickets and fines even though we had registered! (the fines were subsequently quashed but it took a while) The best thing about the Crewe Arms is that its close to the station. So close you can hear (and feel) the trains pass. Wont be going back

    « No sleep! »

Thought I would write a review as it appears I will not be getting much sleep tonight. There are very bright flood lights in the car park that point towards the building to illuminate it. They are very bright indeed. Unfortunately the curtains do not fit the window properly and a considerable amount of light it flooding around the edges of the curtains and flooding the room with light. Called reception and they said that there is nothing they can do as the light switch is locked in a managers office and they do not have a key. Looking forward to be refreshed for a busy day at work tomorrow. Thanks Best Western.

« Very friendly staff but failure to attend to guests needs »

I have stopped several times in this hotel as it is very convenient for the station when I am visiting my family in the area. On my last visit I elected to pay extra and selected the 'superior double'. The room was spacious and clean enough (although on closer inspection dust could be found). One of the things I use in a room most often is the table - reading on an iPad, surfing the 'net or even undertaking a bit of work. In this room the table was served by an arm chair, which was too soft and too low for comfortable keyboard activities. I also found that the main light in the room didn't work - a blown bulb suspected. I reported both of these items (at slightly differing times) to reception. On requesting a 'proper' chair for working at the table, the lassie was very accommodating - certainly they would look into it. That was all they did, I suffered the same chair (sitting on pillows and cushions) for the duration of my 2 night stay. As I went out on the first night I reported the light (having identified this later than the chair scenario). A different receptionist was on duty and he advised he would check it out. On my return later, he advised he had checked and it was indeed the bulb - but he could not access the maintenance cupboard - he would get maintenance to sort the next day. I remained without a main light for the duration of my stay. The cooked breakfast is one of the main reasons for my stay as there is a far superior accommodation nearby, but it does not serve breakfast. The breakfast as normal was very good and despite my comments above I wil likley return to this hotel. One word of warning - my room (117) was immediately adjacent to the station platforms and I could hear every train and station announcement.

Went for the valentine meal on Saturday with my partner. The menu was priced at £15.00 each for a three course meal. There was a good variety of meals to choose from,of which they were well above the normal boring choice from various venues around the area, and also cheaper. The food was lovely, well presented, cooked to perfection 100% value for money .The hotel has been totally refurbished throughout and looks good .The staff are very polite and efficient and can't do enough for you. It's a pity that there wasn't many people there on the night because this place deserves to be packed for the quality of food on offer. Make sure you go next valentines

« Brilliant place to stop with such wonderful staff »

Lovely staff always cheerful and helpful which makes such a difference to your stay. The room was lovely and clean and warm. The food was extremely good and the serving staff brilliant particularly Adam. Jodie On reception also deserves a mention on the way she dealt with the customer with such a cheerful manner and also the lady with surname Bickerton(sorry cannot remember your Christian name) who dealt with the booking in an extremely efficient cheerful manner with always a smile . This is our second visit which was a pleasure to stop at such a pleasant hotel with superb staff

    « Completely transformed »

I stayed here this weekend, the hotel has been re furbished to a high standard. Rooms are clean, tastefully decorated, beds are comfy, bathrooms spotless, warm and fluffy fresh towels. Breakfast was buffet, plenty of food to chose fruit, cereals, yogurt, bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, ash Browns, toast, fruit juices, tea, coffee. Regularly replenished with freshly cooked food. The bar area is all new could probably do with a few more pictures and blinds or curtains would make it more cosy but could not fault the service.

    « Basic but nice »

A lovely building with a fairly basic hotel in it. The room was large, clean and well decorated. Beds very comfortable and a decent size. The hotel is adjacent to the railway station so there is a little noise but not overly so. If you want a one night stop in Crewe on a budget then you could do worse than here.

« sooo ANGRY at parking situation »

me and a friend were in Crewe a few weeks ago and deciding where to go to eat, we saw the Best Western from the main road and he drove onto the carpark to check it out. he didn't even stop the engine, he just slowly cruised past the place and we decied not to go inside, and he left the carpark within minutes. we went somewhere else and thought nothing of it until today when a £100 parking fine came for him entering the carpark! he contacted the number on the fine/invoice and they say they are an independent security company and our situation (checking out the venue as a potential place to dine that afternoon) made no difference and he had to pay it or bailifs would come to the door with an order from a court to remove goods and property to the value of the fine. nothing he can do about it.. we are both SO angry.. how the heck are people supposed to check out the bar/restuarant without driving up to it to see it?! sooo fuming at this.I'll be telling everyone i know to never go anywhere neat this place. total ripoff scam, just making money out of people

Arrived at 10pm, found the hotel warm, welcoming, and made over since our last visit three years ago. Staff nice and helpful. Bedroom was comfortable, and the mattress unbelievably comfortable. « Excellent »

We stayed here for 2 nights to meet with my sister as we were celebrating her 70th birthday. The staff were absolutely brilliant and very helpful, there was a group of us so we were able to be on the same floor. We were shown complete courtesy and professionalism throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff from the moment we walked through the door we were treated as valued customers and made to feel very welcome. We had a great stay, the breakfast was spot on, hot and plentiful, the only input I would put to the breakfast would be in regard to the sausages. But if thats all then thats nothing to be worrying about. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will stay there again with no problem. The staff deserve recognition as they were complete professionals at all times but further they were nice people and easy to talk to.

« Great stay, Excellent staff. »

Stayed here over the New year Hols whilst visiting family. Lovely visit as always, The staff are Great, always helpful, friendly and polite. The rooms are comfortable with good beds, the WiFi is excellent. We had dinner the first night and it was spot on, well good and plenty of it, the chef was lovely too. This is a great little old hotel and to be honest I get sick of seeing reviews from people doing it down because of noise/floodlighting as it is on a main road opposite the train stain, this is great for us as we only have to cross the road to grab out train, if you don't like the noise or the lights ask for a back room I'm sure the staff will do what they can for you. To the staff at the Crewe Arms - keep doing what your doing your all great and we will be back when we're next over to the UK.

I recent booked a Christmas party. It consisted of 6 children and 6 adults, we all had a Christmas meal, it was a variety of meals; as the children were quiet picky. All the meals were served in a professional manner; and the staff were happy to help in any shape or form. Highly recommended. Great work. Thanks

Had a lovely 3 course Christmas meal. Service was excellent, plates were hot we couldn't fault the whole meal or service, fantastic. It had been refurbished since our last visit so was very warm and welcoming. We'll be returning soon. Thank you.

Had a really lovely xmas meal at crewe arms. The food was great and very well priced plus the staff and atmosphere at the hotel really made it a very happy and pleasant experience. Second time I have had a meal there and once again it was lovely and could not fault it. 10 out of 10 and look forward to the next meal!

Having originally been booked in for two weeks on business our time was cut short due a faulty new fire alarm system. The team were great handled it with the up most kindness and respect of guests, I could see they were stressed but after such a nice stay I only had the greatest compliments I've stayed in two other hotels non can compare with the customer service skills here!

On behalf of Coppenhall Fly Fishing Club, we would like to say thank you to all your staff on the service we received and the lovely meal prepared for their annual fly fishing presentation evening, held on Saturday 5th. The room was arranged as requested and the service was good and the meals again were lovely, everybody was happy. We have booked again for next year Saturday 10th December, 2016.

« Old hotel that shows it »

Bear in mind that this is quite an old hotel but with a central location. I was given Room 106 which faced the main road and train station. It was obviously an original room as it has sash windows with no double glazing so the noise from trains, traffic and people was high. The Windows also rattled in the wind and the hotel has a floodlight that penetrates the curtains. Coupled with a poor shower it was a bad room. Having requested a different room the one I was given was great apart from the fact that it still had someone's bag in it. The second alternative room was better with double glazing but no central heating. Portable heaters were provided though. The shower flow was still very poor The front desk was understaffed with people waiting to be served at the bar whilst people were checking in and also ordering room service. The same person seems to do all three things. I've no doubt that the manager will respond but my comments are facts. They are offered as a way of improving. All feedback is good feedback.

« Christmas Lunch at the Crewe Arms 2015 »

As a pensioner group we held our Xmas lunch here this week with 67 people attending. This is the first time we have been there since the refurbishment and I was immediately impressed with the new layout and decor of the reception and lounge area. Thanks to the control system there was adequate room on the car park for everyone - very important for those with impaired mobility. The reception staff were very helpful in ensuring cars were registered with their system. Being close to Crewe railway system without such a system they were open to abuse and their own customers couldn't get parked. Being such a large group we fully occupied the dining room What impressed me most was the way the delivery of the meals was co-ordinated by table so that everyone had their food almost at the same time regardless of menu choice, The meals were served hot as were the excellent vegetables I love sprouts when they are cooked correctly - not overdone. With such a large number of customers to serve simultaneously they were using all avaible staff but it was pleasing to see how they all worked together as a team to deliver customer service. My own menu choice of field mushroom followed by poached salmon and Xmas pud was absolutely delicious, In my eleven years of involvement with this group this must rate amongst the best Xmas lunches we have had.

    « DISAPPOINTING CHRISTMAS MEAL »

I ate here as part of a large group of pensioners out for a 3 course Christmas meal where the whole of the restaurant was booked for our group. First impressions were nicely laid out tables with a cracker for everyone although there was not much space to put drinks, etc as the tables were quite small. My first disappointment was that not everyone was given a bread roll as it was just served to the people who were having soup as their first course. I thought this was extremely mean seeing as every good quality restaurant I have had a 3 course Christmas meal at in the past has always provided bread rolls for all. People who had opted for Prawn cocktail got a round of bread and butter served with their starter and melba toast came with the pate but no bread was included in the mushroom starter that I had. However the worst part of the meal for me was the main course. Being vegetarian I had opted for the only choice of stuffed pepper which came with a butter and tomato sauce. I had asked our organiser if she could ask the hotel to provide a cheese sauce instead or if they couldn`t, would they bring the sauce separate as I dislike anything that looks and tastes like tomato sauce or soup. They did bring the sauce separately but when I tasted it, it was very much more tomato than butter so was forced to have a dry meal. Our table of 4 were kept waiting for several minutes for our vegetables to arrive and someone from our table had to ask one of the staff to bring them in the end as our other food was getting cold. The vegetables when they arrived were some sort of mashed up carrot mix and a bowl of sprouts. The sprouts were in a cheese sauce which would have been ideal for me as I would then not have to have a dry meal, but also amongst them were pieces of ham. I was absolutely disgusted that they had put the ham in the dish without making any consideration for vegetarians and I had to ask someone to bring me some sprouts separately. They did this but there was no cheese sauce with them. The stuffed pepper itself was nothing to get excited about, it was just a red pepper filled with cous cous, no bits of nuts or anything. 3 small mostly burnt roast potatoes accompanied each meal along with the said sprouts and carrot mash and there was only one person on our table that ate everything even though they were not entirely satisfied with the quality of the food. Someone came round towards the end of the meal to ask if everything was ok, and I replied that it wasn`t for me but there was nothing they could do about it now and as they didn`t try to put things right when I asked about bread rolls not being offered to everyone before the meal started, I didn`t see any point in there being a chance they would even be bothered to make amends for my disappointing meal. The only saving grace was the tiramisu I had for dessert, it was a generous portion and looked and tasted delicious. The drinks here are expensive but that was to be expected as it is supposed to be a good quality hotel and having lived in Crewe all my life, it has always had a reputation for being more expensive as it is noted for being a good hotel. One word of warning for anyone who comes here for a meal and is being dropped off by a friend or relative or even a taxi, they must give the registration number of the car they came in to reception or otherwise the driver will find himself being sent a fine in the post. Anyone parking here the rule is the same, but staff do usually ask when guests arrive to provide their registration number. This is actually the second time I have had a meal at this hotel since Best Western took over, the first time was Boxing day before it was refurbished and the main meals were buffet style so there was no problem about having food go cold while waiting for the veg to arrive. Its a pity the service was a bit more like it was then.

    « Excellent yet again! »

Having stayed at the Crewe Arms for a second time this weekend I would like to say that this hotel is excellent value for money. When we arrived the receptionist was lovely and very welcoming. We had requested a quiet room and she explained where our room was and that it should be quiet - which it was. Room was spotless and with an extremely comfortable bed. Bathroom was good with loads of hot water and powerful water pressure. We asked for an additional towel which was sent to our room - no problem. This hotel is excellent value for money and therefore our expectations were at the level of the room rate. I'm glad to say our expectations were exceeded. We will be back. And we are fussy!

    « Won't be staying here again! »

When I arrived they didn't have my reservation but lucky I still had the reservation on my emails. Room was dated with broken facilities in the bathroom and a window which would not close properly! Very noisy so couldn't sleep! Breakfast was ok, nothing special! A few days later I realised I had been charged twice for my stay! Not impressed with this hotel in the slightest! Won't be staying here again.

Convenient location for the rail traveller being virtually across the road from Crew station. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff friendly and helpful. The Hotel restaurant does not serve food on Sundays apart from breakfast.

    « hidden flaws »

Upon arrival I was ?served' by the receptionist who didn't fulfil her job title as a receptionist she had a very don't care attitude and was not helpful at all. After I guessed that the booking was done she gave me a slip of paper and a card key, didn't explain what the paper was for and neither told me my room number, until I asked and she told me it's on the paper slip. When my partner and I finally got into the room it seemed fine until I realised there was a hole in the floor which I banged my foot into and almost lost my balance. The hole was on the left hand side of the bed and was covered by carpet, I truly think this must breach some form of health and safety!! i also noticed that the shower was extremely cold even on its hottest setting, it was unbearable to stand in, my partner also thought the same as he's used to very warm showers, the shower at the hotel was lukewarm at best! The bed looked ok until we had to sleep in it, the mattress was not firm in the slightest and I am not a heavy person - it still seemed as though i was drowning in the mattress. I explained all these problems to the receptionist (a different lady this time) and inquired whether there was any complaints procedure, she claimed she would send a complaint on my behalf however did not have anything to say regarding my experience; she was not concerned at all from my complaint and made no attempts to rectify any problems only saying that I will still have to pay regardless of experience. Needless to say I will be spending any money on this selfish company again!

    « A good hotel in a convenient location »

I use this hotel quite a lot, as it is a convenient location to catch up with people who are travelling to and from London. You can also pay to park there if using the station, as long as you remember to register you vehicle at reception. They are helpful and responsive when issues need to be resolved.

« Not value for the price »

I stayed at this hotel couple of months ago. It used to cost me in the region of £30 per night without breakfast. Now I cant find at that rate for the last two months. The current rate for advanced bookings is in the region of £70 upwards. It is a bit costly for what the hotel offers. Some of the rooms were good sized, some of them average sized. Some of the rooms have window towards the train station which are noisy with the road traffic and train announcements. Make sure your room is quiet. The taps were a bit funny, they are not usual type. The water pressure was low. Rooms were neat.

As a hotel near a railway station I was dubious about going in but i was in for a wonerful surprise. Delightful clean and modern decor. Staff pleasant and food excellent. Both in quality, quantity and price. Will definitely use this gem again. Remember to register your car at reception for free car parking. Well done Crewe Arms!

    « Hotel with character »

Similarly to other reviews, I was a bit worried about this place - being right on top of the train station, but it wasn't too bad in the end. The hotel was easy to spot and get to. Parking wasn't a problem. When we checked in, it wasn't clear if breakfast was included in my booking, so I had to ask later on in the evening. The room itself was nice, but everything creaked (wardrobe, floorboards). Free WiFi was handy. In the bathroom, the shower wasn't quite powerful enough and there didn't seem to be enough soap in the dispensers. Everything else in the room was fine. The train noises and announcements weren't too bad. We had a good night's sleep and breakfast the next morning was good. Although, it's a nice hotel with lots of character, I'm not sure it was as good value for money as the other nearby big chain hotels.

« Rip off parking charges in the "FREE" carpark »

My wife parked in the hotel car park to go in to the hotel to pick up a Christmas Menu. She was in the car park for 10 minutes. A week later she received a "Parking Charge" from a private parking company "Parking Eye" of £100. This charge would be reduced to £60 if paid within 10 days. My wife contacted the hotel to explain the situation and the fact that she was actually in the hotel as a prospective customer. Over the past week we have had two different people from the hotel giving us two different stories, one telling us by phone that the matter had been dealt with, and another by email telling us that the issue can not be resolved and that the parking charge needs to be paid. Clearly the management at the hotel does not know what is happening with its staff and it's communication with customers. The whole situation is ludicrous and it begs the question of should the hotel be renamed as "Fawlty Towers". To avoid paying the higher charge, we have now paid the £60 fee. I would strongly recommend that people give this hotel a wide berth. There are other hotels very close to it which do indeed offer "free parking!

« Amazing! More underrated than anywhere. »

Stayed here for 1 night as everywhere else was fully booked, before hand was hoping for the usual typical premier inn as I'm used to it. I expected to be in for a bad night at Best Western as it was one of the few places with bookings... Seriously took me by surprise. Absolutely 5 stars. Also, the staff are drop dead gorgeous! Will ask for here from now on if available.

    « Lovely stay »

It was with some trepidation that I booked this hotel due to reading bad reviews and I have to say I was slightly dreading staying....I couldn't have been more surprised. Helpful, friendly staff from reception to housekeeping - everyone we came into contact with was a credit to the hotel, lovely size room,we requested a quiet room with cot and got exactly that. The room was SPOTLESSLY clean and a good size. I highly recommend booking this hotel. Breakfast had plenty of choice and Adam was a lovely attentive waiter. The hotel is right next door to the station and a main road but you can ask for a quiet room. As for squeeky floorboards and 'tired' looking - the hotel was built in the 1880s,you have to expect this but none of these things should warrant a bad review. Congratulations to The Crewe Arms on amazing staff and great value for money,we'll be staying again.

    « A VERY GOOD SMALL HOTEL »

Stayed for one night on a weekend organised trip to Coronation street studios . It is hotel built in the victorian era and appears at first glance to be a little tired in apperance, hoever the staff are very efficent. we were a part of a couch load of some 50 people, but we were processed very efficenty and despatched to our rooms with the minimum of fuss. The room was clean and the plumbing worked , the eviening meal that was included in the price of the overnight stay was a choice between a very good shepards pie or a cavery, perfectably acceptable. The breakfast was a buffet which consisted of a english or a cointinental meal. Overall very pleasntly suprised with this hotel, would reccomend it to anyone who needs to stay in the Crewe area . ,

    « Excelent Visit »

My home is only two miles from Hotel, i stayed for three nights bed and breakfast and the reason to welcome and be part of our group which takes place once a year in different locations and countries, Last year was Vienna and next year Copenhagen, but this experience was as good as anywhere and our Texas Instruments European ti994a group consisted of 20 people staying at the Hotel and i could not fault the service from Sales Manager Rachael Bickerton or the meals which included breakfast, lunch and Dinner, and especially the help and courtesy over the weekend from Food and Beverage Assistant Adam Bloor, both very professional and friendly. My Double room was ideal on the first floor facing onto main road, Coffee and tea and large TV in my room, bathroom was spot on, although i could not work the shower but was more at home with a bath anyway, I think what i liked about the best was the attention to detail of the staff, always on there toes for anything going astray, and the only downside was not able to work shower, wonderful weekend and would hope to go back again.

« Much better than last year!! »

This hotel appears to have been refurbished since last year's stay as the bedroom was much better and more modern. Improvements have been made to the downstairs area as well and there is the introduction of a coffee shop. The only downside was the water supply in the bathroom as it was very low pressure and difficult to get a decent speed but then it is a historic hotel. Very convenient for the station.

    « Comfy weekend break »

We stayed on a 2 night b&b deal with an evening meal one night, what fantastic value. It's a lovely old building, ok it is on a busy road near the station but there was minimal noise at night and it certainly didn't disturb our sleep! The staff were all very polite and made us feel more than welcome. The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed was warm and very comfy. The evening meal was really well cooked and presented, I had whitebait, calamari and fili prawns for starter, the only complaint was that the lemon mayonnaise was missing and when I asked about it was given normal mayonnaise. My husband had baked Camembert for starters followed by steak while I had hunters chicken with 2 whole chicken breasts!! Breakfast both mornings was buffet style full English and continental. We only had the cooked which set us up for the day. We used the hotel as a base for exploring the area, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

    « Problem-free one night stay »

This hotel is an interesting Victorian building on a busy road opposite Crewe railway station, and turned out to be an excellent choice by our tour company for a group of 49, mostly pensioners. Not a large double room, but comfortable and clean. Hotel staff obliging and friendly, and it was not even too much trouble to organise a quiz for us in the evening. Dinner was a superb buffet, and roast pork carvery, set in a very attractive dining room, and catered for all tastes and appetites, with a varied and ample breakfast to follow. Room was quiet and peaceful, as we had the advantage of being at the back of the hotel away from the road, although I understand the road noise at the front was minimal, as the hotel is set back from the road. This was a most enjoyable stay, and ideal for our needs. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for individuals, couples or families.

£45 for bed & breakfast is hard to beat. Not the nicest hotel I've ever been in but it's clean & comfy. Free wifi, a nice bar area. Can't comment on the evening meals but breakfast was enjoyable. A bit of noise from road & rail travel but it didn't stop me getting a good nights sleep
