    « Best Western Southbay »

Overall the motel was clean and easily accessed. Parking can be a bit tight but not too bad. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Easy access to trolley, highway and other modes of transport. Fairly quiet at night too.

    « Nice, inexpensive, quiet »

Nice little hotel for the money. Staff was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was a bit lackluster, but was on time. It would be nice if boiled eggs were hot. Nice variety of choices. Room was very clean, and tidy. That's not always easy in a humid environment. Would definitely do again if in area.

« Recent upgrades helped this busy motel »

Staff here were friendly and efficient. The rooms are clean and exterior is freshly painted. WiFi is fast but you will need to login again frequently. And I had to unplug the TV to get an outlet for charger. Second floor rooms are quieter, although you may need to close the bath window.

    « Best Western »

Room was good for price. Only stayed a few days. Beds were comfortable. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was very good with a variety of food. Disappointed that the fitness center was never open due to boxes of, I believe, lighting materials being stored in it.

    « Bugs!!! »

Ants in the first and second rooms, broken soap dispenser in the third, some unknown quick bugs in the 4th plus a very annoying intermittent noise all night long and very hot. The staff didn't seem very concerned and did not offer anything to make our stay better. Don't stay there!

    3
    « Quick stay over »

We had originally booked 2 nights here but our flights changed meaning we only stayed the 1 night. Service at the check in wasn't too friendly and very brief about where breakfast was located. The room we got was on the ground floor and initially we thought it was lovely and quiet until next door checked in and we could hear their conversations clearly through the thin walls, which went on into the late night. This was not ideal. Room was spacious and clean although the bath needed replacing- it was old and flaking plastic was peeling away from the tub. Location was good with diners and mcdonalds located opposite the hotel and short drive to Balboa Park and the Zoo.

    4
« Good price with a pretty decent location »

Room was clean and front desk folks were helpful. Trolley is directly next to the hotel, so you don't have to drive everywhere, if you don't want to. Good breakfast restaurant next door. Definitely a good place to stay in SD.

    « Black Friday »

PROS Comfortable, no issues with noise. Breakfast was good and service was great, they were on top of things. CONS The Person at the front desk was not very Customer Friendly, maybe he was tired. Tub had a slight ring and we felt a bit uncomfortable showering, other than that the room looked very clean.

    2
    « Not since college »

On the plus side it is next door to a great breakfast restaurant "Aunt Emma's" and the train station (convenient). Not located in a super great neighborhood, but ok. Received stained towels throughout my stay. The lock to my room was hard to work. I had to key in multiple times before the door would unlock. Reported to front desk, and was not fixed. There was a greasy/sticky stain on floor next to the bed that was very visible and I had marked with a towel. Housekeeping never did anything to mitigate/clean it. Used cups were not replaced. It was much less expensive than staying in downtown San Diego, but since I have been out of college for some years now, I am going to choose to upgrade next time.

« The Staff is why i frequent this hotel when i come to San Diego »

I have been using this branch for over 4 years, and they are the best of the best. Always accomodating, always professional, always glad to see me. Cecilia, Vanessa, Abigail and Oscar are all gems that work there.

  • 3
    « personal trip »

I'm forewarning you before you get there, if you book on TripAdvisor you will be scolded by Cecilia at the front desk for not booking directly with them. I asked for a down stairs but was told by Cecilia that because I did not booked with them they were filled and maybe I might be able to get a down stair the following day. I won't visit this hotel ever again. The linens were not change for all 3 days even thought they had a black spot on them. The towels were not white, they were digging looking with black stain on them. The Staff specially the young lady at the breakfast was the most friendly and helpful. This was the second time we have stay at this hotel but it will be our last.

« very nice family place »

this is the nice place i have stay in for the price , there is not a thing a can say BAD about this best western , just that all is nice for a big family - we had two room's and the best thing is the lady who dose the food each day was the very best of all . her smile can start your day out the best ,,as it did for me there .

    3
    « OK Stay »

Overall not a bad place to stay. Issues with bath fixtures not working properly, hot and cold water connections reversed, and towels not being up to Best Western standards. Place was clean and quiet and beds were comfortable.

    2
    « 2-Stars »

Location is easily accessible via freeway with great restaurants in the vicinity but the hotel rooms need to be remodeled and not just patched up, and needs central air/heat. Musky odor as well. But the staff is very courteous.

    5
    « good clean fun »

the location is perfect right off the freeway the train is next door stores and restaurants walking distance easy access to Imperial beach Chula Harbor The swamps park there is a mall just down the road we really enjoy the South Bay Inn friendly fun thanks best western again the place to stay was great

« Poor condition, cheap management »

Tub was cracked and peeling, cable TV was pixelated with poor signal, room keys had to be reset EVERY DAMN DAY of our 4 night stay (which is a HUGE pain in the butt when ones hands are full and one must walk down and across the entire lot of three outdoor buildings to get to the front desk)--I should add that they NEVER asked for verification that we were indeed the people staying in the room, so there is no security with your belongings left in your room, pool area is not family friendly due to groups of adults drinking and smoking every evening, all walkways outdoors so getting out for the breakfast with our kid was a no-go, dirty towels and sheets, and the list goes on! Right after check-in, a housekeeper decided to let herself into our room (she was surprised to see us) and handed us ONE bath towel. Not really sure why they're so stingy with the towels, but we had to ask for more daily and they wouldn't give us new ones until we returned the used ones. Even then, they would literally give us two bath towels and one hand towel (for two adults and one child? Sheisty!) The towels we did received were stained--all of them. Our sheets were also stained. The management needs to be more generous in the towel department (what a funny thing to say, but I'm serious) and they also need to learn how to do laundry. Nothing is worse than reaching for a towel only to see it stained with dark brown lines. Yuck! As for the area, I grew up around here and didn't have any issues, but I also didn't go for walks at night. Lol! Walking distance to lots of fast food, grocery, bar, liquor store, public transit, and close to freeway access and gas station. Because of all the little inconveniences, we will never stay here again. Do yourself a favor and spend a the extra $10-20 per night for a better managed hotel. It will be worth it.

    « Dirty, Dark, Disgusting »

this place was stinky, room had roaches, i felt sick to my stomach from the smell of the linens, i was tempted to leave at 3 in the morning just to get out of there. WORST PLACE EVER. PLUS THEY HAD HOOKERS IN THE PARKING LOT AT NIGHT

    3
    « Long weekend stay »

I was unable to get hotel for contiguous days over the long weekend. So I stayed over two best western hotels in Chula vista. This hotel was better in room and cleanliness. However, breakfast was not so good and checkout experience could have been improved. However staff was very good and they should be paid more (especially when we paid almost double the price for long weekend.)

« Good Option for Family Vacation »

My husband and I wanted to take our three-year old to San Diego to go to the beach and the zoo so we were looking for somewhere simple to stay for our family. We spent three nights here and it was a great family-friendly and budget-friendly option. Simply staying in Chula Vista rather than San Diego cut our hotel bill almost in half. This hotel is very close to the freeway and we were able to drive to everywhere we wanted to in 10-15 minutes. The hotel was clean. The breakfast included was fine. I'd recommend staying here for a family vacation.

    2
« reserve this hotel only if there are not any other options »

service was fair, remodeling construction littered the parking lot and in front of our room entry, non working tv, odor upon entering the room, hot coffee not available upon arrival at continental breakfast (7am) at opening) food at continental breakfast very bland and not at all tasty, motel location poor next to light rail where crossing bars were constantly stuck or not working holding up freeway entrance

  • 5
    « perfect »

love the location right next to the chula vista harbor great to be close to the 5 easy access to all of san diego also closest to imperial beach the staff there are the best as well as the new upgrades all being done now also breakfast is a always clean well presented with awesome staff

    « Great for a simple stay »

They were doing construction so parking wasn't exactly great. But the lobby, staff, and rooms were as you would expect! Friendly, welcoming, and very accommodating. The bed was absolutely amazing! The only thing stopping me from rating this hotel "Excellent" was the quality of the cable. We were planning on bringing our laptops to watch our shows but decided not to since there would be cable. They have Cox and all but 2 channels said that they were unavailable. My fiance restarted the box which worked, but the channels that we wanted to watch had very poor quality. Thankfully, we were able to find a few channels that we were interested in. I would stay here again, I would just bring my laptop just in case. Also location was great since it was right off the freeway, but downside to that was because there was so much traffic that it made it almost impossible to make that left turn with on coming traffic and the traffic building. What made it even worse was the freeway entrance is a short distance so we had to cut people off. We stayed on a weekday, too. I can't imagine how it is on the weekends.

    4
« Good breakfast and location »

The breakfast of this hotel is above average with warm food like scrambled eggs, sausages and potatos. It is convenient located close to one highway and local train station and walking distance to many restaurants.

    3
    « Average hotel »

Offers free HBO, but you couldn't get a picture along with many other channels including some basic channels. This made it a bit difficult with 2 children needing to be entertained. The free breakfast was very good and better than most free continental breakfasts I have seen.

    3
    « Thanks!! »

The breakfast was amazing and so were the girls in there. The price was good, the beds were comfy! This location was close to all the activities my family and I wanted to do. Imperial beach is so pretty at sunset. The only thing i wish the hotel had was a hot tub by the pool.

    « Manageable »

Was staying couple of nights in this hotel. Noisy rooms, but otherwise ok. Trolley bells keep ringing once in a while as the train passes the area. It sounds very well to the rooms. Very limited breakfast. Every morning the same things. Plastic spoons and plates. Not so comfortable area.

    4
    « Mini Vaca »

BW was our choice for a couple of nights - 2 different locations. This was the 2nd night but still both places were clean and ready. The staff and both locations in CV were great. Often checked with us when out and about if all was good.

    3
    « Great Location »

Room was standard motel room - had trouble with shower but it was taken care of right away. Good place for families, especially for breakfast. Good variety! Pool not heated, but clean. Staff were excellent - helped with questions of the San Diego area. I left two blouses in the closet and honestly I never expected to see them. I was amazed when I called the next day! They found them in just a few minutes! Kudos to the staff, especially housekeeping!.

    5
    « Great Service »

Nice, clean place to stay, unwind and relax. I still couldn't believe I would get my son and wife's jacket back. Its' hard to find trustworthy people nowadays. It's usually finder's keepers. The staff was very helpful. I will definitely refer this to my friends and family members.

« Great stay at affordable price »

It looks like rooms at one section are better. I stayed at this hotel before and the previous room was not as good as the last one. Internet is fast and the breakfast very good (variety of several items). Location is close to San Diego main attractions (La Jolla, Mission Beach, etc.). Price is good for the value.

    4
    « vacation 2016 »

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel in Chula Vista, the staff were friendly and helpful. There buffet breakfast was always stocked and a lot to choose from. The room was well cleaned each time we left and came back for the evening. The pool was also clean and I used their small gym and this was also kept clean. The only thing was the A/C in that room was not working very well.

    2
    « Room smelled awful »

We got to this room in the middle of the night and the hotel looked full so we didn't attempt to change rooms. The room had a damp, strong mildew smell and the beds felt damp so we turned on the heater to try to dry things out. The room filled up with a burn't hair smell that was worse than the mildew. I had noticed that they had left a small window open in the bathroom - probably trying to air the place out. Other than the horrible smell, the shower pressure was good and the hotel breakfast adequate.

« Tried but fell short »

Stayed here for four days with my husband and adult son a couple of weeks ago. Checkin was easy and friendly and the room was clean and attractive. The problem started when the toilet stopped working on day two. When we notified the front desk, we were given a plunger! Ha! Was it too much to expect a maintenance man to appear immediately to take care of this very unpleasant problem? To be expected to unclog their plumbing lines was insulting the problem continued until the next day until I complained. Then, they were responsive and fixed it the same day. I should also note that although breakfasts were included in the room rate, the maain parts of the meal, eggs and breakfast meat, wS not ready at opening time and it took 20 minutes of waiting before they were brought out. The cook/serving person needs to arrive way eRlier to have everything ready at opening time! Beds were reasonably comfortable, pillows were hard and it would have been nice to have feather/down and or down alternative and larger pillows.

    5
« Best stay for vacation »

stayed at three Best Western and all 3 hotels my family and I were very pleased. We would definitely book again with Best Western when on vacation or even business. The room, and the amenities were excellent and close to where my family and I wanted to go.

    4
« It was ok for the price »

For the most part it was quiet and clean, although I did find a dead roach in the bathroom and the TV didn't work because there was no connectivity to cable. There are several eating places surrounding the hotel, and it's pretty close to the water.

    1
    « Horrible hotel! »

I booked this hotel, based on the good reviews! Its was a big disappointment! First of all, the parking is compact; so its hard to find a spot with all the commercial vans and trucks and I am not really sure what are they doing there all night long. Second, the rooms smelt bad and the ac made it worse. Well,if the hotel is in renovation , then is all bad.The paint job is made like someone in a hurry.. The breakfast, I had better..it was poorly. Actually, I can say , from all the best western ,I had been , this one ,it was the last one on my list. Like someone said, you get what you paid for!

    4
    « Good surprise »

This hotel is well located in Chula Vista with several restaurants around it. The neighborhood may not be the best but the hotel guests are fine, including many families. The room is very clean compared with other hotels in the area, clean towels and sheets. They have continental breakfast with options for waffles, cereals, breads, coffee and juices. The main problem in this hotel is the Wi-fi (if you need it) it is very very slow, looks like from the time of phone lines, which is big issue when you are travelling on business. In general it is a good hotel in Chula Vista area.

    4
« Good Room for the Price »

This was a clean hotel. Nice quiet stay. There a several places to eat nearby. Bed was very comfortable. The tub needs to be redone, couple cracks, but nothing dangerous. TV could be a little closer to the bed.

    3
    « family vacation »

my stay at this hotel was good how ever a roach came out on top of the desk, and they need new towels cuz they were all stain. and I think that the bathrooms were to small. but the breakfast was good.

    « Customer Service »

I tried to secure a block of rooms at this hotel for July 2016 as my daughter's softball team will be attending Cal State Games in San Diego. Originally when I called the hotel I was informed I would have to speak with the hotel manager Crystal Reyes. I left 2 voice mails the first day and finally a Cecilia called me back. Cecilia quoted me a rate but I was never informed I had to give a credit card to secure all rooms. A couple of days later I called Cecilia back to reserve the rooms and gave her my credit card number and told her the other parents would be calling in with their credit card numbers. When our team coach tried to reserve his room Cecilia was very rude to him. The hotel manager and her staff do not obviously care about customer service nor does the Best Western hotel chain.

    5
    « ONE NIGHT STAY »

people at the front desk were very nice, was very impressed with this hotel... its an older with many upgrades, very clean, centrally located and beautiful grounds Breakfast was decent....Danish, coffee, cereal, yogurt.

« Excellent buy for the money. »

Excellent location. Close to freeway. Close to train station. Close to places to eat. Close to San Diego downtown. Airport and the border. Book in very advance to get good rates. Breakfast items are always available during breakfast time so don't have to hurry in the morning.

    4
« Best Bang for Bucks »

This may not be the ritz when it comes to hotels, but if you are visiting the San Diego area, it is a great buy. It is easy on/easy off the intersatte. The rooms are clean, the staff was great, the breakfast very nice offering a large variety of foods.

    4
    « Great!! »

Although outside of San Diego this was done on purpose and only a $25-$30 cab ride to the centre. This motel was perfect, decent size, clean and had a mean buffet breakfast! Would defo recommend and use again :). The staff were really helpful and checking in and out was easy as pie.

    4
    « Good hotel, accomodations »

Area was a concern at first, but hotel was fine. Good breakfast menu. Nice, helpful staff. Family enjoyed the swimming pool. Within driving distance of beaches and other activities in the San Diego market. Close in proximity to I-5.

    1
« You Get What You Pay For »

he cable tv didn't work. The wifi was too slow to use. It seemed like they rushed to make the rooms look new. Still some screws coming out of the floor and missing from outlets. The outlets either didn't work or couldn't hold a charger in it. The "new" beds are hard like a trampoline. Parking is awful, even though there is a parking lot in the back that could be used...but isn't.

    4
« Short but Sweet Stay... »

No frills, but a nice property with very nice staff. Great breakfast! Good value! Location is right off the interstate so that is very helpful. Also, there is a trolley station very close which is great if you want to explore the city without your car. (Note, although the trolley station is very close-by, it was still a very quite hotel.)

    3
    « Coming off a "high" following a re-do several years ago. »

A year or so back, I couldn't say enough about how this property had "rehabilitated" itself. Breakfast had microwaveable hot sandwiches and generally a good to great breakfast which is now just "OK". Also rooms had new beds, carpeting, TV's and re-done bathrooms. All that is starting to fade. Room was very "musty" smelling, and front desk very non-chellant as regards timely check-in. Just "OK" at best.

    4
« Best Western South Bay Inn Chula Vista CA »

    « Second time is a charm »

Great location off of the 5 fwy, especially if you travel to the San Diego area for business. Easy fwy access, very clean breakfast nook, with all of the quick fixings you'll need to get your morning going. front desk staff always very friendly. also found out that there is a nice clean outdoor pool for those after work plunges

    5
« Great hotel for the price »

Staff and hotel was very nice and clean. Needs a little updates in rooms however still comfortable. Probably the best breakfast variety we have had at a medium priced hotel. Convenient to trolley and bus service would

    « Satisfied Traveler »

The room was clean and organized. Breakfast was okay. The staff were very nice and helpful. What I like about it was the hotel is close to National City and some other places that are very convenient for me.

    « 2nd Stay as good as the 1st »

Good people at check-in like Crystal Reyes. They do everything they can to help you and make your stay the best. Room was clean and comfortable, flat screen TV, refrigerator and microwave in it. Breakfast was like most hotels but good and hot. There is a restaurant next door that has good food. The hotel looks clean well taken care of. The price is right. We will be back.

    5
« Good value and nice facility for the price »

Very helpful staff, nice facility for the price, and good free breakfast. I needed to leave luggage after checking out and they were very accommodating. Also has a swimming pool which is a nice extra feature.

    4
« Clean, close to restaurants, cheap »

Just off the I-5 Exit 8B, BWSBI is easy to find. It's walking distance to Denny's, Black Angus Restaurant & a short drive to other restaurants on E St & Broadway as well as the ChulaVista Mall. The front desk person is friendly & helpful. There's a fitness room with drinking water & towels, fitness room usually empty, if locked, ask front desk for key. They also have a swimming pool. The hotel is close to railroad tracks so one can hear the faint warning signal unless the bathroom window is shut. The room is clean, has a refrigerator, microwave & a small safe. Four large towels are provided, soap, shampoo, coffee, condiments for 2. There's a flat screen TV with free HBO. Wifi is decent but it takes time to connect. The trick is to log in, leave it alone for 10 to 15 minutes, then come back to your device. The front desk provides user name & password on check in. AC works well. A complimentary breakfast is available at certain hours in the AM. Beverages, bread, fruit juice & boiled eggs are available. Though dated, the hotel is kept clean and well maintained. We'll consider this property again next time we're in the area.

    5
« Nice stays for family trip! »

Good location, friendly staff, nice breakfast and reasonable price. That's the reason for us to stay for two nights. the only thing need to be improved is the internet was not working on the second night and not fixed till we check-out. But overall, I would recommend my friends to stay in here for their trip to San Diego.

    3
    « It's a little below average »

The hotel is okay, but nothing special. They advertise breakfast, however it's more of a continental breakfast. There are about 4 hotels within a stone's throw of each other and the Best Western is the closest to the trolley station and the closest to all the noise from the trolley station. The rooms were adequate and the beds comfortable, however there is nothing that would make me a loyal customer and go back to this location the next time I'm in town.

    4
    « First timer »

I must work in San Diego from time to time. Needed a reasonable hotel for single night stays. I found one. Would recommend to all business affiliates. Close fwy access, restaurants all near by. Very competitive prices, and awesome complimentary breakfast.

    3
    « 5 day visit »

Our stay at Best Western was good for the price. The Staff was very friendly. The hotel can stand a little upgrade. The breakfast was good. My one complaint is that they get better sheets, washcloths, and towels. They looked dingy. Went out and bought my own because of that. Hotel is located near restaurants and maybe 10 min. From a walmart.

« Nice San Diego area hotel »

We recently stayed at this property for a short stay in the San Diego area. The location is perfect, right off the freeway and easy non freeway routes back to the city. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful with area information and coupons for discounts. Good basic breakfast and very comfortable beds. A little dated property but well maintained. Would stay again.

    3
« Good people, tired hotel »

Wifi only worked 1 of 7 days. Had a couple plumbing breakdowns. Half a block from a train station with loud bells every 20 minutes or so, 24 hrs a day. Comfortable bed. Helpful staff. Dresser drawers open by themselves because floor wasn't level. Good people, tired hotel.

    4
« Good Value for Money »

This was the first motel of many we stayed in during our recent road trip in SoCal and it was a great start. The hotel is in a great location for exploring San Diego at a MUCH cheaper price than hotels right in the centre, it's right on the I-5 and next to a trolley stop that can take you downtown in 15 minutes or so. The room was large and clean and had everything we could have needed - aircon / heating, coffee maker, comfortable beds, decent shower, TV with a good choice of channels etc. Breakfast was plentiful with a really good choice, including yoghurt, waffles, eggs, fruit, sausage and biscuits, cereals etc. It was by far the best breakfast offered by the variety of motel chains we stayed in during our trip. The only negatives to our stay were the lack of crib we'd requested - seemingly requests like this aren't even passed from central reservations on to the hotel directly (apparently due to data protection?? I find this pretty unlikely ...) so when we arrived after a long and arduous drive through LA rush hour at around 9.30pm it was a major disappointment to be told that - as housekeeping had left for the night - the guy on reception couldn't offer us a crib until the following morning at the latest. I'm not sure what he thought my options were with the sleeping baby in the car, but in the end we had to dash out to Target and spend $40 buying one ourselves - not ideal at all. There was also no working safe in our room, which was a disappointment. That aside though, the hotel was good for our stay, and we would return. Just make sure you email any requests to the hotel directly!

    « Pretty Good Hotel?Fantastic Price »

This is a nice basic hotel at a great price. Super easy off and on the I-5. Basic room, nice beds, nice television, great price?what more could a guy want? I saved even more by doing the pre-paid, nonrefundable rate. Shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel are all in dispenser systems, not in those little plastic bottles. Some people may not like that, but after collecting hundreds of those over the decades, it was no big deal for me. It is close to the noisy I-5 and ever-blonging San Diego Trolly line, so watch out where you situate your room. Unfortunately, I was located right across from the outside soda machine, so that was a pain. Breakfast was nice, and got me going. A great perk is that the staff can lend you San Diego Trolley Line cards during your stay at no charge. If you look online for what you need to do to get a card, you'll see how nice this service is. Just be sure to turn them back in when you leave. Yes, the Trolley is full of wild characters, but I had no issues getting to and from the San Diego Convention Center (about half an hour trip), even until about 9 p.m. The staff also lets you leave your car in their parking lot for the day after you check out in order to spend your last day in town out and about. This is also very nice since the Trolley parking lot is full by 7 a.m. So, kids, if you are going to some hyper-expensive conference and want to save a boatload over the big hotels near the Center, go here. (Black Angus is right across the street.)

    « Service was improved »

I enjoyed my stay at Best Western SouthBay. Abigail was very good at the front desk. Its funny, the only major problems I ever experienced at this hotel was with the male manager, Jorge. Otherwise, the staff is pretty good.

« San Diego spring break vacation »

Went to San Diego with daughter and granddaughters for Spring Break. Was a very inexpensive hotel out of the San Diego bustle. Is a little outdated but very clean. Breakfast and breakfast staff were exceptional. Easy to get to from freeway and easy location to travel to Coronado Island, Imperial Beach, San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. Granddaughters also enjoyed the pool. Very pleasant stay.

    « A Best Western "motel" »

In my mind Best Westerns should to be a mid-range hotel. This property is more along the lines of a not quite budget motel. Outdoor corridors and modest room furnishings make it so. The property is clean and well kept, the pool (too cold to use in mid-March) is on the small side but looks inviting, and the mass transit trolley is literally a minute walk from the hotel. The South Bay Inn is just off of I-5 so is convenient for those who choose to drive into the city. There is a breakfast room with plenty of choices available. We've come to make The South Bay Inn our home away from home when visiting San Diego. Hotel prices in the downtown area make staying just outside of the city an attractive alternative.

    « Cold pool »

Good place to stay. Good breakfast. Big selection of items. Outdoor pool is cold at this time of year. Looks pretty and is a good place to soak in some rays. Location is near a transfer station and close to the freeway.

« Not great, but not shabby. »

Basically, you get what you pay for. We chose this hotel due to its close location to the train station, and we rode the train into downtown/gaslamp during the day. Nice, cheap alternative. Free parking, a little noisy at night, thin walls, but I'd do it again, and I'd recommend it to friends who didn't want to pay $400 a night in the downtown area.

    5
« Excellent, clean and really good location »

Not really much to say about our stay, the room was clean and well maintained, staff were helpful and location is excellent being only a stones throw from E Street transit centre and the I5. I recomend staying here

    « Pleasantly Surprised! »

I was worried about the area of this stop of our travel plans. But I was pleasantly surprised. It was clean, easy, breakfast was great and free parking. Easy to access the highway. The staff was great. If I am in town again, I would stop here. I love San Diego and did not want to go home! We visited Torrey Pines and Coronado. We ate lunch at Miguel's and rode tandem bikes. We watched the sun set. It was a great trip.

« Great Spot for Good price »

I didn't know how close the hotel was to the actual beach so was surprised when I realized that and also was happy with the staff that works at the hotel. There was always some available to answer any questions or issues we needed. The room itself was great for what my boyfriend and I needed, we really enjoyed the larger fridge. The breakfast was also pretty good. There is a city train that you can hear alot but after awhile it turns into background noise, at least for me it did so it didn't bother me that much at all.

« Best Western is Best »

Best Western is good place to stay , Breakfast is good. We liked the staff as it was very helpful. And the best part is it is non smoking and the breakfast is very good. I found this hotel is value for money and very helpful if your are going with family.

    4
    « Comfortable Hotel »

Except for the fact that we had problems with our cards to open our room and that there was no egg in the breakfast area, everything else met our expectations. Beds were very comfy. Clean room. Very easy to get to.

    4
« Good Value Close to the Light Rail »

The staff was pleasant, the room of a good size , clean and odorless. Best Western has good free breakfasts with lots of variety and do your own waffles. The Motel is only a five minute walk to the Light Rail to Tijuana or Downtown SD. Microwave and fridge in the room. Restaurants and convenience stores also a short walk. Some of the best prices around. A normal chain motel . Would stay there again, for sure.

    « Service was improved »

I enjoy staying at this hotel, whenever I visit San Diego. Outside of my one pretty bad experience with Jorge, the manager on that particular day, at Christmas, my stay is very comfortable. I left some clothing from Christmas and came up and stayed for a couple of days last weekend. I spoke with the manager Cecelia on a couple of occasions and the desk clerk, Vanessa. Both were very pleasant to deal with and took care of my issue and brought my clothing to the front desk, which was very well handled.

    3
    « Does the Job »

I'll start by getting the negatives out of the way. The walls are kind of thin, so you can hear people walking outside. Also, it's a non-smoking motel, but that only pertains to the rooms. People were smoking out side and leaving the cigarette butts all over the ground. Other than that, it's a standard motel. However, does have some pro's that make it a better choice than most. The room comes with a microwave and fridge, which is great for the leftovers you might have from all the restaurant choices that are within walking distance. The best part of the motel is the distance from the Blue Line Trolley station. It's less than a 5 minute walk and the trolley will take you straight to the US-TJ border or to Downtown SD. If you don't have your own car, this is extremely useful. Overall, it's a great place if you need a place to shower and sleep. Just don't expect a 5 star hotel and you should be happy.

    « chula vista stay »

good place to stay in Chula vista... great location and very good rooms and service... Sill recommend... as it has great value View of building from outside not that impresive, but rooms are very nice.

    « It was okay! »

The room was dark and the cleaners room was right next door. Lots of noise with the cleaners coming in and out of the room. Our room had a musty smell and the location wasn't that good although the one good feature was that it was within walking distance of the train to San Francisco.

    4
« Older Motel, but Clean »

Best Western South Bay Inn is an older motel. I stayed here 10 or more years ago. It is in good repair and the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is included. There are 2 waffle machines, hot & cold cereal, hard boiled eggs, etc. Located next to the Tijuana Trolley station. An excellent location with several restaurants within a five minute walk.

« Trip to Chula Vista »

Other than the water from the adjacent bathtub flowing into my own bathtub, my stay was very pleasant. The price was very fair (actually I was very surprised it was this cheap, I am not complaining). The hotel desk clerk when I checked in that night was very helpful and friendly. I wish they had more parking though.

« Always feels like home »

Best Western Hotel South Bay Inn in Chula Vista has always been my home away from home whenever I am in the San Diego area. The friendly and professional staff make you feel like a Queen. The rooms are always clean and spotless, breakfast is always filling, plus there are always healthy options. You always get your money's worth. I will definitely stay here if and when I have the chance to visit San Diego. Keep up the excellent job!

« was fine for me »

Stayed here for 4 days.the positive, helpful but overworked staff. Breakfast was better than most all hotels I have been to. Honestly, I stayed here because of price. And I don't regret it. Shoddy folks 1st night but no troubles. Close to most anything you would need

    2
« Good breakfast. Nothing else good. »

It is very close to (5-15 minutes) from lots of restaurants and lots of things to do. Beyond that the hotel is not a good choice. Front desk person was rude at check in. Seemed to take exception that I used my air miles to book the room. He spottily said, I guess you don't have to pay for the room, as he processed my reservation. My wife was very nervous of the locations safety. We had no issues, but we would not let our children walk out of the room without us. Not even to the car right outside. There was an ant problem in the bathroom and we took pictures. We also found a dirty housekeeping glove left in the drawer of the dresser. Who knows how long it was there. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff in the dining room were great. But that is not enough to make this hotel worth staying at. We do not recommend and will not stay here again when we travel to San Diego.

    2
« This place needs repairs! »

This hotel had a lot of problems. The window leaks, mildew in the bathroom, walls need to be stripped and re-painted. Small bugs in the room. The rain gutter outside our room leaked. The only saving grace is the internet access. Very fast.

« If you want a dump to sleep »

My family planned a trip and saw the photos of this hotel , it looked great online however upon arrival we found it to be a dump with rude staff. No need to complain, your coplaints will be ignored. You dont have to take my word at least wait until you get there to make a reservation

« Perfect for exploring San Diego! »

We only stayed two nights and we could easily have enjoyed 3 or 4 here. The hotel was spotless, the pool area was clean and the breakfast was exactly what you would expect from a Best Western. However if you are looking to explore San Diego as we were the best thing about this hotel is its proximity to the trolley station, it is literally a 3 minute walk and it is so helpful and reasonably priced to travel everywhere you want to go!! The staff at this hotel were lovely, very helpful and friendly, we got a good deal on the room rate because we booked it so far in advance, it was exactly what we wanted and it was one of the better places we stayed on our tour of Vegas/San Diego/LA/Calabasas/San Fran/New York.... so that is saying something! Also Restaurant across the road, Black Angus steakhouse is to die for and good value too!!

    « Great service »

Good breakfast, warm and cold choices, 15 minutes to Balboa Park, close to sea world as well, very close to train station, great staff, comfy bed, great price per night, highly recommended if you are into savings, love that they care for the homeless as well, giving them at least coffee that they needed at least to warm them up....lots of food chain that are walking distance

    « Good Hotel Stay »

This hotel was very centrally located to San Diego area attractions and airport. It was a good value for a budget property. The rooms were clean, altho décor needs an upgrade. It offered a nice breakfast room which was clean and items kept filled up. The trolley was right next door too, very convenient. If you don't like a firm mattress, this might not be the place to stay. I do firm mattress so it was comfortable for me.

« BAD AND RUDE SERVICE, MANAGER MR MENDOZA »

Because of an unexpected event taking place, I needed to change my reservation. I called multiple times to have the manager Mr. Mendoza to call me back. Left him a few voice mails, and spoke with the phone representatives to have him call me back. Though they said that he'll be calling me back in 20 minutes, I waited for over an hour. I called him back and was told me that he's busy and will call me back shortly. However, he never returned my call. REALLY BAD SERVICE

    « Very good hotel »

Room was clean, bed comfy, nice breakfast, and good value. My room was near road but having the heater or air conditioner running blocked out the noise. I would stay here again. Yes I recommend this hotel.

« To sleep before taking a flight in San Diego, CA »

If you are planning on taking an early flight from San Diego, CA.; the stay at this hotel is very convenient because it is next to the Freeway and the rooms are clean and with the basic amenities. In some parts of the year the price is very high for the type of hotel. When the price is around $80 it is a good deal.

    5
« Great location, great staff and great price. »

A very nice and very affordable hotel located very close to Blue Line which made getting around easy. There were several eating places within walking distance. Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. This was a great value.

    « Better than expected »

Drove down for a run and chose this hotel, because it was close to the starting line. My friend and I were very impressed with how nice the room was. The lady at check-in was friendly and extremely helpful even when I was having trouble using the key card. We gave her some advice on what to see/do in the LA area on her upcoming trip. Bummed we only stayed one night, would definitely stay here again!

    5
    « Better than expected »

We arrived and checked in with no problems. The room was updated somewhat. However, most important, it was spotless. The lobby, parking area, rooms, hotel grounds were all in top shape. Linens nice and clean, bed very comfortable. Pillows, not to my liking, but it was fine. The towels though clean, could have used some bleach, a bit gray. We had breakfast there every morning. Waffles, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, oatmeal. Very good. Location could not have been better either. Walking distance to restaurants. Also just a block from the Trolley. Front office staff friendly, maintenance personal always cleaning, sweeping, picking up. In fact they changed out the microwave in the room one day.

    3
    « Quality »

I needed a last minute hotel room and Best Western was my last choice. Front desk person was friendly and my stay was only for one night. No complaints except for the quality of the towels, I had to go to a 24 hrs Wal-Mart (20 mins away) to purchase a towel as I wasnt confortbale with the ones they had for use. Other than that everything was fine for a last minute stay.

« Need Better Management Skills in the Front Office »

My only complaint was that I booked a room for four nights. Upon arrival, the parking lot was blocked off, with tops of palm trees that were cut down, adorning the entire front parking lot, trees were being run through the tree shredder and saw dust was flying everywhere. It was extremely noisy with the chain saws and the tree shredder running at the same time, guys in huge trucks with lifts were cutting down tops of palm trees. When they returned on the day after Thanksgiving and began with all of that noise to where I couldn't study, talk on the phone or even hear my television, I went downstairs to complain to the Manager, Jorge, and, he completely dismissed my complaint about noise and that I haven't received the peaceful enjoyment of the room that I had purchased. I just wanted to see what he had to say, and he completely dismissed anything I mentioned, saying, "he had no idea of what I was complaining about and that I have received wonderful service and received exactly what I paid for." I asked him for consideration, based on contract law and he said, how has he not been considerate to me, and better yet, there was nothing he could do about my complaint, that he had no idea of what I was complaining about because they had to trim the trees and it was just my bad luck that I came during that time. I was shocked at his level of ignorance and lack of business experience in knowing how to remedy a customer's complaint, besides dismissing me as crazy and not knowing what I'm talking about. That was a very poor experience. Outside of that, the hotel is wonderful. That's the only reason I'm not filing a complaint. This manager, Jorge needs to be taught a lesson in business and what better way than to have a judge reimburse the customer for what Jorge said was not a problem at all, its all in my mind. But, since I enjoy the property, I'm going to let this experience pass by, but David Ho needs to do better in hiring management with business experience.

    « Very Good Stay »

My family was booked for 3 nights. As early as 12nn, we were able to check in courtesy of friendly front desk staff named Cecilia. The room was clean, organized and comfortable. Location is very accessible. Very good breakfast. Always has a lot of choices. Parking lot is safe and wide for each cars.

Breakfast was included and it was very nice with many choices.

I have stayed here for many years. It is an older facility but has been improved over the years where it is now first rate. It is very convenient to the San Diego Trolley. There is also a few fast food places near by, a gas station for snacks and a Denny's that's open 24/7

Non-expensive, easy to get in the freeway, safe hotel to stay before going to the San Diego Airport. Very low noise level. Good continental breakfast. They need to do a good in-room restroom renovation and fix. Restroom are very ran down. For the price is not bad, it could be better

    « AWESOME STAY »

At first I wasn't sure I had made a good choice but after interacting with the employees and seeing the cleanliness of the room. It was an AWESOME CHOICE. Great Breakfast, lots of variety. I will come back.

« Good value for the money. »

The bed was very comfortable. Everything in the room worked. The breakfast added a lot of value, as there was quite a good variety of food, and to eat similarly in a restaurant would have added considerable expense to the trip.

« Good place to stay in Chula Vista »

Clean, comfortable, near to restaurants and freeway access. Breakfast buffet excellent. Ask for extra coffee to use the room coffee makers unless you like weak coffee. Swimming pool not heated so it was cold but others didn't seem to mind. There is train somewhere nearby but it didn't disturb our rest.

    « Steelers vs Chargers »

I checked in late @9pm, when I got there I was already tired and I had requested pillows when I had checked in, I was told that I should have called in advance and I was like you're kidding right, I am a BW Gold Elite member and at all the other best westerns I have stayed at I didn't have to call in advance for more pillows. ABSURD. The beds are low and the AC blows directly on you. The tub had chipped paint on the floor of the tub. Bathroom is small. I mean The Best Western South Bay is a cheap place to stay whether your going to the border or a chargers game. It is near restaurants also.

    3
    « Sketchy »

Upon check in our receptionist was awesome! That's the only reason I went with an average rating...she earned the extra bubble! The countertop at the sink had a stain that looked like mold, the bathroom had no a/c and was a sauna whenever you had to use it. The ac was pointed right on the bed closest to it which left my daughter freezing that night and my wife and I sweating...very poor configuration. The tub/shower looked as though they sprayed something on it to maybe try a cheap way of refurbishing? Whatever it was it was all peeling and looked very tacky.

    5
    « Great Location »

This hotel was at a great location right next to the light rail station which was very convenient for people traveling without a car. There are several near by restaurants. The hotel looks a bit worn down but clean. No issues with noise. The staff is very friendly.

« Clean, great location if relying on puvlic transport »

Checked in 26 Sept to 4 Oct. Place was very clean. Great location if you are relying on public transport because the trolley (train) is a 2 minute walk and you can get to pretty much anywea in san diego you want to from here. The blue line can take you down to the boarder if you want to do shopping at the ohtlwts or into town. You can transfer over to the green or orange trolleys. Or you can catxh the amtrack up to LA for the day...really handy. South Bay has a great continental breakfast with great waffle makers....they are so good e might just buy one when we get back to NZ. I would recommend this place. Probably tge only down side is that we needed to book any additional activities we wanted to do. Yoy can even get to Sea World catching two trolleys and a bus. A lot of different food eateries in close proximity.

« A nice alternative to more expensive San Diego choices »

Good place to stay when you want to save a little money when in San Diego. Out of the center of things making this a nice quiet place to rest while running around checking out the sights in San Diego. Comfortable bed, adequate breakfast, nice shower, working TV. What's not to like?

« Good place to relax »

Best Western Hotel in E. Street Chula Vista, CA. is the perfect place to stay in weather it is business or pleasure. It is quiet, clean, prices are pretty fair, and their breakfast menu is pretty good. I enjoy the swimming pool in the evening. It is very close to the freeway so it is easy to find. In addition, if you decide to go in an adventure to Tijuana, Mexico, the Trolley Station is located right next to the hotel. You can just walk to it and take the trolley to San Isidro and you will be in T.J. having some tacos and beer in 30 minutes. LOL, something to think about.
