    « Immaculate, friendly, convenient. »

We stayed here for the second time for a quick one night stopover. Rooms are spotless, beds very comfortable, and bathrooms well stocked with plenty of towels and toiletries. Breakfast room is bright with a decent selection of fare. We've paid much more at other places for a lot less. Great value, and suited our purposes perfectly. We'll be back!

« A wedding by the ocean in Aptos. »

Our stay was short but sweet. A cool town. My first time being here but looking forward to coming back and checking the old section out. The motel and staff were great. The ocean is nearby and all the little towns along the coastline are pretty cool.

    « Clean, bright, friendly! »

Lovely little hotel in Capitola ! Def coming back. Nice rooms, good continental breakfast with waffles, pool, spa, exercise room. Front desk ppl cheery and helpful, all new decor. I'm impressed. Close to ocean. No negative notes at all.

    « repeat stay.... »

...stayed 3 nights/mid-week...nice hotel..comfy beds..friendly staff..warm chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon & always coffee in the lobby....clean...central location to Santa Cruz & Monterey. Breakfast room with waffle machine...juice machine...breakfast sandwiches that are ok/on Eng muffins that are a bit dry/no taste. Ice machines were not working so had to go to front desk for ice...they were very apologetic..ice machines were working again after 48 hrs.Pool area looks great but did not partake. Will stay again.

    « Friendly hotel »

This is a friendly, efficiently run, well located hotel. The breakfast, which is included, while not quite up to resort standards, is appetizing and more than adequate. We enjoyed our stay at this Best Western and would return.

    « Santa Cruz Stay »

Very clean and comfortable. Location was ideal. Close to shops, downtown and restaurants. The rooms were not very sound proofed. We could hear what was happening in the office which shared a wall, people in the hallway as well as every movement made above us.

« Average Hotel, Bathroom Fan Does Not Work »

Overall clean room. I could hear children in the hallway. Breakfast is very mediocre. Bathroom fan does not work. The radiator was leaking. Marriot, 2 blocks down the street, is cheaper and has better breakfast with bacon and scrambled eggs. Carpets look outdated.

    « Two Nights »

Good location, friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Overall a great stay for a reasonable price. Good location with proximity to the beach, a short drive. Advertised as a continental breakfast, but included pre-made breakfast sandwiches, so a bit more than expected.

    « a true disappointment »

we were hoping for more of a 'destination' location, and this was not it. Apparently, I booked with some 'code' to get the great deal of just over $200 per night, but meant I could make no changes, have no refund. After we arrived, unpacked, turned on the TV and it was not set correctly, so only watching a small picture inside a large screen. Front desk said sorry, maintenance gone home. Offered us to move to another room, we declined having already unpacked. Maintenance man comes next day, says he would have to 'go back and get a different remote'....so does it matter that much to us? My husband said no, seemed like it was going to be a struggle for the guy. Second, in this fireplace mini suite, we have plastic glasses and styrofoam cups...more like a Motel 6. Today returned from a day in Carmel...came back and had no ice bucket....I called the front desk, and was told after much hemming and hawing...that they are 'locked up' if he could even find one...but he would look. Even though we are paid for three nights, we are leaving after 2.....

« Friendly, extremely clean, convenient to Capitola »

Large, modern and spotless room and grounds. Typical free breakfast but well organized and, again, spotless. Excellent value for couples and families. Highly recommend. Great location, convenient to Capitola and the highway.

    « Very nice! »

Just enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay at this Best Western Plus Capitola By the Sea hotel for my birthday. We were upgraded to a mini-suite with a fireplace which was perfect for entertaining friends who live down the street. LOVED the breakfast offered by the hotel in a sunny, bright and inviting space filled with numerous yummy selections. Great trip.

    « Capitola, CA »

This was one of the friendliest Best Western Properties that I have visited in CA. Capitola is a wonderful town to visit, especially during the Fall season. It wasn't overly crowded, so we did not have difficulty finding parking downtown

    « BW Capitola-By-The-Sea is The BEST! »

BW Capitola-By-The-Sea is The BEST! This was my 4th stay here at this hotel, and definitely not my last. Everyone here is so nice, courteous, professional, efficient, accommodating, etc. Blake, the Front Desk (manager? Sorry, I forget his official position) is THE most helpful and sweetest BW employee! (aside from the most excellent front desk personal and manager at the BW Naples Inn, Naples, FL. - but that's another review!) I remember Blake from previous stays here in Capitola-By-The-Sea. He is a GEM of an employee. If there were rating values higher than '10', I would give it to him and the rest of the staff. I love the larger breakfast room! It opens up to a courtyard that leads to the pool and hottub - two amenities that looked SO inviting but I didn't use. (I was too busy!) The room that used to be the breakfast room - just to the right of the front desk - is now a computer/workroom, complete with a small library of books about the local area. I used one of the computers to print out my airline ticket for home. :) There's even a coffee bar in that room! (too bad I don't drink coffee) My room was spacious, well-accommodated and very clean. I even had a very pleasant eastern view over the courtyard(and pool!). The TV was large and quite easy to use. There was a fireplace(surprise!!) in my room that I didn't get a chance to use(I was out most of the time and too tired at night to enjoy it). Next time! It seemed like the elevator was ALWAYS there - waiting for me because I rarely had to wait for it! The bed was oh-so-comfy. It was kinda hard to get up out of it. I just wanted to keep sleeping, but friends and activities awaited! Did I mention how sweet and helpful Blake is?? No matter when, I was always greeted warmly by him. He is very knowledgeable about area sights/activities. He became more like a FRIEND than just BW employee. I look forward to seeing him and the rest of the staff the next time I go out there. I don't know what else to say than BW Capitola-By-The-Sea is the BEST! By the way, yes, there are ALOT of good restaurants and stores right nearby. I even walked to the Capitola Mall to the Kohls and Target stores there. It is a very 'walkable' area. There area also bike rentals too! Go to Capitola(and Santa Cruz/Soquel area)! Have FUN! :) - Jean in N.Jersey

    « Impressed »

As a self proclaimed travel snob, I was not sure what to expect from a Best Western Plus. I was impressed. It was a low cost option, but you could tell they really thought about the customer by providing convinces and little touches that showed they cared. The chocolate chip cookies offered on arrival were just one example. It was definitely a great experience for me and my husband.

    5
    « Very Comfy »

Checked in online and when I arrived to hotel the staff was ready for me. He had a print out of my reservation which made the check in process go much quicker. The room, with a kind size bed, was very spacious.

« Great place to stay in the Santa Cruz area »

The Best Western Plus Capitola By-the-Sea Inn & Suites in Capitola, California is our go to place to stay when visiting the Santa Cruz area. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is a great value and they have a nice breakfast.

    4
    « Comfortable and clean »

We were in town for a family wedding. We found the hotel convenient, comfortable and very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were very nice. Location was central to many of the events we had to attend.

« My Review of Best Western in Capitola »

The employees are friendly and truly do a great job of making guests feel at home. Each month I've gone to Capitola to help a very sick friend. Staying at this hotel makes what might otherwise be a very unpleasant experience a rest and a way to let down and relax in the company of people who are doing a great job of making customers feel "at home."

    « A good place to stay »

Well located for our visit to Santa Cruz and surrounding areas. We especially like a facility that includes breakfast so this was perfect. It was well priced and well located for excursions to several locations.

    5
« Excellent in every way »

We stayed here for 4 nights and found everything about it terrific. The staff were unfailingly helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. The exercise room was amazingly well kept up and the continental breakfast was very good - lots of variety and everything seemed fresh.

« Read This for Details! »

We were looking for a clean, comfortable, reasonably priced hotel for two couples near the Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk, and we found it at the Best Western Plus Capitola! The hotel was quiet, clean, modern, and located in a safe neighborhood with restaurants and a grocery nearby. The units were roomy and nicely appointed. The beds were comfortable and had washable covers. The shower stayed hot and had good water pressure. The staff was friendly and helpful. The free breakfast included individually wrapped egg sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, make-your-own waffles, pastries, cereals, fruit, and of course coffee, tea, etc. You could eat indoors or outside in the attractively landscaped courtyard. Parking and wifi were free. The only thing that needs improvement, in my opinion, is the size and resilience of the pillows. They were small and lifeless. So just bring your own pillow and enjoy a great stay!

    5
« Last minute hotel reservation »

With a last minute trip decision, we didn't have a hotel chosen and the are had very few choices. Many of the choices were 2-star hotels that costs just as much as this hotel. We were fortunate enough to get a room that was cancelled by a previous guest and we were given a good price. It was more than we bargained for...we will stay here again.

    5
    « A wonderful hotel experience »

This was just one more great experience for my family as our members came from 7 different states and we all felt the warmth and hospitality from this wonderful inn! Kudos to all the employees there, and there are some who became friends!

    3
    « Great Location »

The hotel was nice. The location of the hotel is great! There was easy access and walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants and the BEACH!! The person who checked us in was very helpful. There was easy access to parking.

    4
« Comfortable and great staff »

Checked in late on a Thursday and was warmly greeted. Room was cozy and location was pretty good to get to all the sites I wanted to see. Got a great recommendation for a restaurant nearby. Free breakfast was just right. A very comfortable experience.

« They always said "Welcome home!" »

We have stayed here quite often in the past, and this is our very first choice in the Santa Cruz area. You know you can tell a good hotel when you miss staying there. We have family that we now stay with, but we truly miss the wonderful hospitality, comfort, and amenities of this particular Best Western Plus in Capitola. And yes, they really did always say "Welcome home!" And that's just how we felt - at home!

    5
    « Excellent Choice »

We stayed here based on great reviews of this hotel.Excellent hotel experience. The entire staff was welcoming and friendly. Plenty of breakfast choices. The room clean clean clean! Bed comfy. Will stay again.

    « Really nice hotel »

This is typical Best Western hotel superb in all aspects lovely rooms excellent helpful staff, breakfast also plenty of choice and well presented. It is a drive away from the santa cruz boardwalk fair but its only a 30min walk to the very nice capitola by the sea lovely shops and beach.

    4
    « Perfect Location »

No pets allowed, just FYI. I always travel with my emotional support dog but didn't this weekend in part due to this policy. Friendly desk staff, was very helpful with directions (walking) and places to eat. This hotel is within walking distance to the Capitola Boardwalk (20 min). The rooms are nice with a refrigerator. The water for the shower takes a good five minutes to warm up, verified by the front desk staff, which is odd considering there is a drought. There are no elevators so if you have trouble negotiating stairs ask for main level room. Plenty of parking. The continental breakfast is well stocked.

« Best Hotel in Santa Cruz area »

« Ideal spot for visiting Santa Cruz, Gilroy Premium Outlets & Moss Landing for Whale Watching »

We chose this hotel in Capitola as coming from Morgan Hill to do Whale Watching at . Moss Landing and didn't want to stay at a Harbour. The hotel was good for plenty of shops and restaurants and worth a visit to Capitola by the Sea its self. Not a lot of parking but if you drive around eventually you will find a place. Just be patient! Easy to get into Santa Cruz. We had a lovely day here. Parked up in a huge car park right near the sea front. You can't miss it as you drive in! Lovely Beach here and well worth staying for the day. If you have kids its like Southend on Sea or Margate with Amusements and rides. A lovely big pier to walk along and a nice place to buy big ice creams. Very tasty! We drove to Moss Landing as booked a Whale watching trip with Sanctuary Monterey Bay Whale Watch. $114 for 3.5 hour trip. We were out for 4.5 hrs. The team were fantastic and tried their hardest to find the whales. We eventually found some and it was great to see a whale jump out the water. There is parking at Moss Landing and so easy directions if you go with this company. Definately recommend it. Unfortunately we had a bad day weather wise but still enjoyed the trip. After trip we went and had fish and chips at Phil's Fish Market & Eatery. Great food. Doesn't look that much but you queue up, pay and then they deliver food fresh to your table. A Must while at Moss Landing.

« Great place to stay »

It's not fancy, but a very nice place to stay. Room was clean, beds comfortable, and the property was well cared for with beautiful plants on the grounds. Very convenient location with easy access to shopping, restaurants and the beach. Will definitely stay here again.

    4
« Nice place - could be cleaner »

I stayed here for one night recently. Everything was nice and the breakfast was surprisingly robust. But the shower was kind of dirty. Everything else was good and I would probably stay here again. But they missed on a basic requirement, and my wife wore shoes in the room after finding the bath under par.

    5
    « Sunny Santa Cruz »

Everywhere was foggy in our weeklong trek down the California coast except Santa Cruz. So many great places but Santa Cruz stood out. The Best Western location was perfect to bounce back between the east and west sides of town as the freeway is easily accessible. Hotel was clean and friendly

    « Great Staff »

WE stayed here 4 nights and knew nothing about the area. Our first call to this place was terrific with Christine answering all our questions. We traveled with 2 teens and she made sure we got the things we needed for the room and assured us our stay would be great-and it was. She called us a few days before our trip to re-assure us all was well. Blake greeted us on check in and was so helpful and made sure we had all our questions and directions taken care of. Steven also was helpful in providing info. Frank in maintenance was friendly and ready to help us as needed. Our room was super clean on arrival and housekeeping kept it perfect throughout our stay-did I mention we traveled with two teens so keeping the room clean was difficult but housekeeping did. Nice pool, fitness area and hot tub. Great breakfast with good options for us with plenty of fruit etc. Again I must mention Christine as she really was great to us. This place needs to take pride in the employees and they are great representatives of this hotel.

    5
    « Always a Great Stay »

This hotel is wonderful. Everything about it is great, even the person who checked us in (Steve). The location is great, just a few minutes to the Village by the water. The bed was very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.

    5
    « Very Pleasant Stay »

I was very pleased with my stay. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast in the mornings was yummy. The buffet had everything I wanted and then some. What made it nicer, was it's close proximity to so many sites within walking distance. I would highly recommend this hotel.

« Great vacation with the grandkids! »

I booked this family suite 6 months ahead to get it during the summer for a good price. Our combined sleeping had two queens beds in one room and a king with fold-out sofa in the other and a door between each room. All beds were comfortable except the sofa bed, but it seemed ok for a small child and it was easy to fold back up each day to use as a couch again. We had one microwave, one small fridge, and one door out to the hallway. The best part was we had one full bath and a half bath with two extra sinks that were outside of the bathrooms. This hotel was very clean! The pool was on the small side but the kids enjoyed it as well as the hot tub. I used the treadmill but the weight machine was broken. Breakfast choices were varied with the make your own waffles being the most popular. Coffee, milk, juices, breads, cr. cheese, peanut butter, yogurts, egg breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit all were great! The breakfast gal worked quickly to restore all items when supplies got low. Many tables to use, making it easy for families. Coffee and chocolate chip cookies in the lobby some afternoons were a nice treat. Nearby to the hotel were a mall with Target and Kohl's, a movie theater, a CVS drugstore, a grocery, a BR ice cream shop, a Burger King and a KFC. The hotel guest laundry room was clean and nice (bring quarters for the machines). We were about 15 min. to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, 25 min. to Henry Cowell State Park, and 45 min. to Monterey Bay Aquarium. This hotel was great!

    4
« Nice Hotel in Capitola »

The Best Western Plus Capitola by the Sea hotel is a nice place to stay in Capitola. It is within a mile of the ocean, and near shopping and restaurants. The building is very impressive, and the rooms are clean. the staff is competent and friendly. The only problem I had is that the room decor was old and a bit tired, as was the bedding.

    3
« MANY PLUSSES, BUT UNFORTUNATELY GETS AN AVERAGE RATING! »

First, don't blame the motel for its name"CAPITOLA BY THE SEA", that is the name of the city as far as I can see. You should know that it is is not "on the sea" and certainly not on the beach or near the wdater, and I don't say they claim it is. It is a twisting drive down to the beach area, and if beach front is what you are looking for, this is not your place. That being said, the manager claims they are full almost every night. Parking near the beach in town is very limited, and even a pay parking lot has limits-this town seems to me like a place saying,"go somewhere else". The plusses of the motel are many, rooms are spotless as are linens: ;the breakfast selections are extensive, something for everyone, though the eating area is very tiny and one gets the impression that they would like you to eat and run! I had to downgrade the sleepquality as there is a row of parking spaces right up[ against the bottom floor rooms that are noise producing in the evening. My most serious complaint about the motel is relative to older travelers, especially those who have any degree of limited or impaired mobility in their legs: the tub in our room was a jaquzzi type-sounds good, but first, the tub is higher than usual, so more difficult to get into and out of, and more serious, the safety handles are on the wall across the tub, rather than on the sides just as you enter and leave: I could not stretch my arms across the tub to reach the grab bars to help me get into and out of the tub. There are rooms designated for handicapped persons and if that could be a problem, ask. To the management, I will say have you loss prevention specialists try to get into and out of the tub without a grab bar being nearby! The pool, though small is clean and well maintained: one has to wonder though why a company will pay for pumps and heating for a pool, without maintaining a higher temp level in the pool: the air in Capitola, even in the afternoon, is typically cool, and older folks would appreciate a higher temp, tholugh kids are not are discriminating. I stayed 10 minutes and got out. There is seating, tables and chaises but no food or drink is allowed by the pool. I found it odd that in front of the motel there is no designated area to park your car, while checking in-all parking is way behind the building an d it is from the rear parking lot that you are supposed to enter your rooms.

    « Great Hotel! »

We stayed 4 nights with two children and enjoyed our stay. The staff is wonderful and the hotel is in a good location, only a couple of minutes drive to the beach. The continental breakfast had such a wide variety of food, we ate there every morning! The hotel also offered chocolate chip cookies at the front desk in the afternoon/evenings which was a nice treat. We also enjoyed the pool and hot tub. We had a great experience staying at this hotel and would highly recommend it!

    5
    « Another Great Stay »

It is always nice to stay at The Best Western Plus Capitola by the Sea. It is close to everything and a wonderful hotel. This time we brought our grandsons and they had a great time in the pool and having their own sleeping area. The staff here is great and I always feel welcome when we check in.

    5
« Great Value in Capitola »

I stayed one night in a 2 room, 3 bed suite with my teenaged son and his friend. Check in was easy and agent was very friendly. The room was very spacious and had a mini-fridge, microwave, multiple sink areas, but just one bathroom. I think I had assumed that the room would be two connecting rooms and therefore have two baths, but it worked out fine for one night. The hotel is set up with a courtyard area in the center where you'll find tables with umbrellas as well as the fenced-in pool. There is a private parking lot behind the building for hotel guests. Free continental breakfast was ok - make your own waffles, cereal, toast, bagels, and one type of pastry + juices and coffees. We weren't there long enough to walk to the village, but it would be a bit of a long walk. We did drive through the village on the way out of town and it is cute with a lot of water-front benches and walkways.

    5
    « Excellent »

Excellent all the way around. We visited friends in Capitola and this was the only hotel with last minute availability. Rates were very reasonable especially for the location. Staff, room service and cleanliness definitely a 10. This is now are "go to" hotel when we travel to this part of the State

    2
« Will not be returning »

Let's start with the good. This hotel was clean and the front desk staff was very friendly. Now for the not so good. The hotel free breakfast is horrible. It's offer of protein options are hard boiled eggs and extremely processed breakfast sandwiches that are gas station store quality. The fruit was not editable as my kid could not even get one bite out of Apple. We ate there once and chose to eat else where for the remainder of our stay. The hotel appears to have updated the lobby however the hallways and rooms are in need of updating. The bathrooms have no windows and or fans so when one person takes a shower even in cool water the entire bathroom is so hot and makes showering not pleasant and finally the walls are pretty thin as I could hear our neighbors entire conversation and radio. We will not be returning to this hotel.

    « Route 66 travellers »

Hotel is 5 minutes walk from surfing, sailing and beaches. The town has some interesting shops-check out the bike store. The hotel is located just off the highway with good parking, andhas a good breakfast room with an outdoor patio. Staff are very helpful.

    4
    « Nice Friendly Staff »

I have stayed here many times. The staff is friendly and the grounds are clean. This last time I was given a room up against the elevator (207). This was very loud constantly hearing this and the elevator lobby window looked right into our window. I will forever request a different room away from elevator.

    5
« Comfortable, Professional, and Friendly »

Beautiful room, comfortable bed, and friendly PROFESSIONAL staff. The lobby is gorgeous. Breakfast was very good - fresh and hot. Appears recently remodeled and well kept. Lobby art as well as all the art in the hotel was themed appropriately for Capitol By The Sea. THANK YOU!

    5
« Very nice, reasonable place to stay »

I highly recommend this place. Very clean, nicely appointed, well landscaped, helpful staff when making reservation and when checking in, great pool, very good breakfast with a nice variety of items offered, very comfortable bed.

« Beautiful Hotel in beautiful beach town »

The hotel is very clean and well decorated with art of Capitola. Our room even had prints of Capitola scenery. Loved staying here. Breakfast is awesome. Fresh waffle batter and make your own waffle stations.

« Home away from home! »

The people at this place are so wonderful, helpful as can be, always friendly and welcoming, reaching out to make sure your stay is the best possible, and very professional. The rooms are so clean and the beds really comfortable, and even the spray on the shower is nicely adjustable and not too hight for someone like me who's short. They do have nice facilities for exercise, though I prefer walking to the beach than being inside. I continue to return time after time. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance if you don't have a car, but the charming village is only less than a 5 minute drive, and the beach is right there.

    5
« Pleasure leisure family visit to Capitola »

Capitola By The Sea, Best Western, enjoyed our stay there. Close enough to ride bikes to the coast, and a short drive to the Capitola Village. Fun time at the Crows Nest beach party, band, dance in the sand, great band music- live, had dinner and, a couple cocktails at the Crows nest before enjoying a few beers at the beach party, must be 21 to enter.

« Great Place to Stay Central Location »

Loved this hotel, the staff, the amenities, breakfast, workout room, etc.. Central location to the mall, restaurants and shopping. Used this as an alternative to Seacliff since they were all booked and I am happy I did.

« Great Hotel in the Santa Cruz area »

The Best Western Capitola By-the-Sea is a great place to stay when visiting the Santa Cruz area. It is conveniently located close to the ocean and restaurants. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is great. The price is right. It is our go to place to stay when visiting the Santa Cruz area.

    « Very nice stay »

We had a change of plans and decided to stay in Capitola at the last minute. I knew Best Western would not disappoint and I was right. This hotel is clean, friendly, quiet, and very affordable. Breakfast was great!

    « Awesome »

We enjoyed our stay and thank your company for all the nice staff too! We ended up back at Best Western after trying to save a few dollars by staying a Quality Inn (very bad odor) we got our money back and returned to Best Western!

« Surprised by this Best Western »

This is a very clean hotel. I was impressed with the room and the facilities. Only 2 complaints, I wish they would expand the breakfast selections and I wish the shower head was adjustable. Both complaints are easily remedied. Glad we stopped here. Towels clean and soft

    « Delightful and friendly »

From the first greeting at the desk to our last encounter, the staff was extremely courteous and friendly. Dining room staff very attentive and courteous when a spill occurred. Décor is upbeat. Seemed very fresh as if recently done. Swimming pool a hit for kids.

« Clean, quiet good place to stay. »

In a good location with parking, accessible for the Highway, shopping and the beach a short walk (not that many people there seem to walk). Only grievance is why serve breakfast on card plates - but then that seems to be common in California. Liked the fact that the hotel was quiet.

« great place to stay when in area »

this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in anywhere in our travels. When ever we are in the area we stay at this hotel. Everyone who works there are very friendly, helpful and go out of their way to make the stay like being at home.

A great place to stay! Walking distance to Capitola Beach and the Village. The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, our room was perfect and the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies were amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Santa Cruz area.

Very nice place to stay in a very nice town.Helpful staff, clean & tidy appearance, Close to a supermarket (important to me.) Robust internet connection. We just traveled across the US & the price was perfectly in line with similar hotels we stayed at.

« Excellent for the price »

We loved the location of this hotel. It was close to Capitola Village which has great restaurants and shopping, not to mention the beach. We were within walking distance of some good food when we were too tired to drive or go out in the evening. The staff and management were great, the rooms extremely comfortable and, of course, the fresh cookies.....

« Give them a try. you will be glad you did ! »

First time I stayed there, wow, everything was very clean, and well cared for. Pool, hot tub, common areas all very nice condition and serviced. Great helpful staff. Could give a high hotel a run for there money, you will be happy you got a great room and at a great price.

good place, great manager, good bed, great weather, easy on/off the highway, central location, quiet at night, all the basics you need for a good night's sleep. didn't use pool or hot tub because we left at 10am when it opened.

« Another beautiful stay at Best Western Plus »

We love staying at the BW+ Capitola by the Sea. The staff are all so friendly and it is at a good location. It is not far from the beach and close to the mall and the movie theater. Lots of eating places. It's also near O'Neil's surf shop.

    « Fantastic Stay!! »

We were pleasantly surprised and the size of our room. It had a small refrigerator, microwave, fireplace and was everything we needed for our stay. The room was quiet. The pool looked nice but we never used it. We were visiting our niece so were very busy seeing the sites with her and spending time with her. Blake at the front desk was very courteous and enjoyable to chat with. The breakfast was very good, coffee was perfect and I would definitely recommend to our family and friends to stay here when they go to visit. Thanks Best Western Plus in Capitola and your terrific staff.

    « Great hotel »

This is a great hotel. Clean comfortable rooms. Obviously well maintained in terms of appearance and cleanliness. Nice pool area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Wifi was speedy. Excellent free breakfast opens at 5:30 and free coffee 24/7. An excellent value. I would absolutely stay here again

    4
« Nice stay close to great attractions »

We stayed 3 nights and was very pleased with our stay. Blake at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. He knew our son was anxious to get in the pool and gave us pool towels at check in so we wouldn't have to wait any longer. Our first room we checked into had an issue with the fridge so they switched our room with no problem. This hotel has no view and is close to a busy road but the privacy and the proximity to Santa Cruz beach, Capitola beach and Monterey Bay is excellent. The pool is heated but still on the cool side but it was early April on our visit so it may change later in the season. Breakfast was good, lots of options including cereals, yogurt parfait bar, multiple types of breakfast sandwiches and make your own waffles. We loved having coffee and tea available all day for free in the lobby and cookies in the afternoon. It was newly renovated and very clean and nice. It does have a coin operated laundry but plan for extra money and time as it washes fine but the dryer does not work well. We really liked that every employee that we came into contact with gave off a positive energy and really made you feel welcome and cared for. I would stay here again on my next visit.

    « Nice, Casual Hotel »

Staff is very friendly and attentive, and rooms are clean and comfortable. While, this is note a plush hotel, it is nicely appointed, and the beds are VERY comfortable. The grounds also offer a well maintained pool, hot tub, and fitness room.

« Great value for money in fantastic little town »

Rooms were clean and of ample size. The beds were comfortable and the room had the largest flat screen TV I've ever had in a hotel (including luxury hotels). The hotel has a nice pool and hot tub, providing a nice spot to come and wind down after a day on the beach. The breakfast was decent, though I can do without the disposable plates and cutlery. This is a very good hotel and I will gladly stay here again as I am sure we will be coming back to Capitola.

    « Family celebration weekend a hit! »

Best Western Capitola by the sea had a lovely family suite perfect for our family gathering for a big birthday celebration nearby. The kids swam in the pool and each had their own bed in their own room leaving us some space to ourselves. The staff was lovely and ensured we had a great weekend. We were a short drive away from downtown and from the Shadowbrook where we were dining.

« THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST »

This is the best "best western" hotel I have ever stayed in and we have stayed in a lot. Obviously in this business its all about management and this hotel is a fine example of how to do it right. Robert at check in was very professional. Excellent to work with, he answered every question carefully plus he made a perfect recommendation for dinner for us. Hotel has lots of easy in easy out parking and the location is close to everything in town. The room was great; good beds nice bathroom great TV air con and heating that actually worked and absolutetly spotless. All common area's were well cared for and spotless as well. Breakfast was good and all anyone could ask for. All of the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. You really couldn't ask for anything better than this. Highly recommended!

    « Big fans... »

Clean and the staff is always very warm, welcoming and responsive! Location is very convenient for local grocery stores and still just a couple blocks away from the beach - a perfect balance of 'savings' and convenience.

« trip to Santa Cruz »

The hotel was really nice and very friendly staff. The beds are comfy and the rooms were very quiet. We had a great time and the kids loved the heated pool and hot tub. It wasn't too far to a few of the beaches which was nice and maybe 10-15 minutes to the boardwalk.

    5
    « Great Experience »

Extremely clean. Staff was very friendly and professional. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was only "so-so". The fitness center was a nice addition. Price was a little high, but our overall experience was great. Would recommend to family and friends.

    « Lovely place »

This hotel was easy to get to and was comfy and clean. A mall is right down the street and a movie theater is just a few blocks away as well. Plenty of small places to eat are nearby so we found it to be a perfect place to stay as we passed through.

« Pleasantly surprised and would return »

I was pleasantly surprised by the suite we rented for two nights this past wkend. It was a 1-king bed suite which included a king bed in bedroom with separate living room equipped with sofabed. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 little ones. We brought our own pack-n-play for youngest family member. We didn't end up using the sofabed tho on a test run, it was not so good. The room was clean and quiet even though the hotel was full for the wkend. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The included breakfast comprised cereal, waffle, sandwiches, muffins, breads, juices, coffees, yogurts - runs the gamut for varied tastes and needs. Not high end but definitely very good. Hotel appeared to be recently renovated. We were in room 310. We had not used the pool nor the gym. Location was awesome since husband is an avid surfer. Hotel located on 41st Ave and about 15m walk to Pleasure Point. It is a great base from which to explore the various coastal neighborhoods around Santa Cruz. We would definitely rent here for the suite again.

    « I LOVE CAPITOLA!! »

I always stay here at Capitola By The Sea!! The Staff are always friendly and go out of their way to assist all guest. This stay however I was disappointed the main entry to all rooms was under construction on the first floor, that wasn't the issue. The repair guy was really rude and started his tile saw at 8am. Since we were only a couple doors down we heard it all!! This is Spring Break week and I just felt the repairs should maybe have been done at a slower time!

    « Good experiance »

I thought this hotel was very nice, it is currently under renovations but still nice. Plenty of pillows and towels and clean, quiet rooms. Breakfast was excellent as compared to other breakfast included hotels. Parking was easy right around the back of the hotel with easy access. Poll looked very nice and hot tub was being used every night.

    « Don't Spam »

Good hotel and service. But email spam from them stinks. They ask for an email account then spam you with junk mail. Then it takes 7 days for them to unsubscribe you. If they ask, do not give them your email.

    « Pleasant Stay »

Room was clean and the hotel was quiet. The staff at the Best Western in Capitola were very nice a courteous. I enjoyed my stay. Additionally, the location was very close to the beach and several restaurants were of high quality.

    4
    « Great location. »

Convenient location, very helpful staff with many amenities, including off-street parking. A good number of quality restaurants nearby. My wife and I stopped for an over-night on the way to Carmel. Enjoyed an excellent Italian dinner at Carusos across from the beach. Highly recommend for a very nice beach-side town relaxing holiday.

    4
« good hotel, good location »

Not knowing exactly where to stay in the Monterey Bay area coming from San Francisco we booked in Capitola which can best be described as interesting! Not as bustling as nearby Santa Cruz but having a lovely beach and pier to enjoy as well as a quaint "down-town", and fearures a fabulous wood railway viaduct. The hotel is a bit far to walk from these, but itself offers good accommodation in spacious rooms with all amenities, though the breakfast is a bit clinical, and with all the oranges in California, freshly squeezed orange juice would make a welcome start to the day.

    3
« Great Location for work or play »

Rooms are ok and breakfast ok if you like the same\\e thing every day. I would have liked bacon instead of sausage once in a while. I had to move my room several times to get one that was quiet and light and bright.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

The Capitola By the Sea Inn and Suites was so nice and friendly. Wonderful location, quiet atmosphere, clean - clean - clean. The property was so well maintained. The staff was wonderful to work with. It is nice to have a place to stay that you feel comfortable going to sleep at night.

This is a very nice Best Western and it's location in Capitola is very convient. Close to the mall; good restaurants and only a short drive to the Bay. We will definitely stay here again should the opportunity arise.

    « I come here every year! »

I've been coming to the Best Western Capitola by the Sea for four years straight, every January - and the same staff works here year after year. I figure it must be a great place to work! Plus, they always remember me, which feels great. This hotel is SUPER clean and extremely comfortable, and it is located near lots of great stores and restaurants in walking distance. I love this hotel and I always look forward to my January visits.

« great for our family »

We were in the one set of rooms with a door between. We had 6 adults and two children. There was room to set up a small crib. It was a very comfortable situation for our extended family. We're glad we had called a long time ago to make the reservation and have the two rooms available.

    5
    « Outstanding hotel value. »

From the perspective of business and leisure traveler road warriors, we can advise that this property provides an excellent value. All aspects of the interactive and bricks and mortar experience were provided at the top of the scale due to the oversight of the property's GM, Jason Raney.

« Where to stay in Capitola »

The Best Western Plus on 41st Ave. in Capitola, CA. is a really good place to stay. The staff is so wonderful, professional, warm, attentive to any needs. They treat you like family. The housekeeping team makes sure the rooms are spotless. It's within walking distance of Whole Foods, the beach, plenty of stores and restaurants, and no more than a 5 minutes drive to every place else that you could want, including great sushi! The beds are really comfortable, yet firm enough for a back that's stressed. I've stayed there many times and have always had a superlative experience there.

« We came to visit kids and grand kids in Santa Cruz, and that was great. We were also really pleased with Best Western. »

We have traveled many places in the world, both for work and vacations, and this hotel has some of the best staff we have seen any where. We were pleased with the quality and cleanliness of our room. The front desk staff were excellent, and we also found the cleaning staff very helpful and efficient. I look forward to staying here whenever I am in the Santa Cruz area.

    « Clean and Comfy »

Everything about my stay was a great experience. Great customer service, clean room and bathroom, great location, and safe. Workout room looked nice but I didn't use it. Pool must be heated because it was chilly and a few kids were enjoying it. Nice small jacuzzi. Many options for breakfast and I was surprised at what was available. I'm not a big breakfast person but more than enough for me.

    « Enjoyed our stay. »

We have stayed at this Best Western on several occasions as it is located near our son's home when we are visiting. We have always had a pleasant experience and a simple, but nice breakfast. Staff have always been helpful and pleasant and the room clean.

« Stayed in town due to Christmas Eve. »

Very nice place to stay. We would definitely come back and stay here again. Close to our granddaughter's place. I also liked that it was away from the freeway and your hotel is very quite. I would recommend your Inn to all of our friends.

    « Worn out »

I was shocked at the worn out chairs in my room. They were so worn that the stuffing was sticking out in several places on both chairs. This is not what I expected. The lamps & sconces were nice. the lighting around the mirror in the bathroom was both lovely and nice and bright. Over all the decor was sad and old. When I mentioned this to the front desk, I was informed that the owner was aware of the problem and was going to do a renovation, but there was no time line for it, so who knows how long they will wait before addressing this problem, which should have been addressed a year or more ago.

« Nice stay but empty offers? »

I booked this hotel over the phone and told them I was spending my birthday in Capitola. Upon finding out my birthday, they told me they would give me a special discount. I thought it was my lucky day. Upon check out, they did not honour the discount they mentioned on the phone. I told them, and they said they made a mistake and wouldn't be able to apply it because I had booked partially over a weekend (Friday/Saturday). As a result, they give me a discount that I could only apply to any "future" visits. I really don't know when I will return, as I'm from Canada! Anyways, that was a bit disappointing. I chose the hotel because I was motivated by the discount and they took it away! I could have stayed somewhere else. This is why I have given them 3 stars. Otherwise, the hotel was nice, clean, and in a good location. Good parking lot. Was able to walk to the beach (15 min).

    « Capitola, a beautiful sunset »

The best Western PLUS at Capitola was fantastic. Blake and Steven were very friendly, professional and helped us have a fantastic stay. We ended up going to downtown capitola for dinner at Zelda's The fish and chips were fantastic. The parking is tought, but you can get good deal for parking accross the stret from Zelda's. we took some beautiful photographs of the sunset at the beach. You have to walk the beach and go to the wharf at night. it is so beautiful. Our check out the next day was easy and quick. we went to Twin Lakes state beach and had a wonderful time walking the beach to the lighthouse, awesome place, you will love to spend time at this beach.

    « One night refresher »

Super easy place to stay! Everything is so convenient. Loved the sink outside the bathroom. Really convenient! Super comfortable bed. Only issue is the walls are a little thin. I had no problems tho. The hot tub and pool area are nice as well. Very easy to get around Capitola and Santa Cruz areas.

« Great hotel for the chili cook off »

Reserved this hotel, 8 rooms in advance. Hotel was clean, breakfast was mostly awesome. There was one breakfast where the kids all went down about 40 minutes before breakfast was scheduled to be over and there were no breakfast sandwiches put back out for those still coming in. The rooms were clean, grounds clean...everything went great accept at checkout as we drove home we were called and told that we would be charged $30.00 for a pillow that we did not even realize we had with us...we left my daughters pillow and took theirs on accident.

« Excellent value budget hotel »

We're happy we stayed in Capitola rather than busier, more crowded, traffic-choked central Santa Cruz. We found this budget motel to be a great value and fine base for visiting areas from Davenport to Moss Landing. It's located in the heart of Capitola, so don't expect sea views or a short walk to the beach, despite the town's proximity to the ocean. The drive to the ocean was short, though, and we were rewarded with sightings of dolphins, sea otters, and sea lions. On arrival at the hotel, we were greeted warmly by the woman at reception, offered still-warm chocolate chip cookies and a useful town map. The parking lot was at the rear of the motel, and had its own, secure hotel entrance, for which you needed a card key to open. Luggage carts and an elevator were located on the other side of the door, making it easy to unload and transport luggage to one's room. The room was very clean and large, with a comfortable king-size bed, mini-fridge, room sink and microwave. Parking and WiFi were also included in the modest room rate, and the WiFi worked well. The cable TV offered a wide range of channels. The motel was one to three blocks to many shops and restaurants and on one of Capitola's main streets, yet our room was quiet. We did a fair bit of shopping while here (Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, BevMo, pharmacy, sporting goods store, stationary store, etc.) and were relieved we didn't have to drive far or deal with much traffic. Breakfast was included in the modest room rate. We passed on breakfast, but there seemed to be a wide variety of choices, such as sweetened yogurt, packaged bagels, boiled eggs, instant oatmeal, sugary cereals, orange juice, herbal teas, Seattle's Best coffee, and so on. We would return if traveling to this area.

« Looking forward to being back soon! »

Staying here since 2009, once or twice a year on average, there is no need to look for another one. « Great value, clean rooms, conveniently located »

Room was clean and furnished with microwave, small refrigerator, 2 chairs and table, two sinks (one inside bathroom and one outside), plus coffee maker. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was large. Breakfast was filling with various hot/cold cereals, waffles, breads/bagels/muffins, juices, coffee, tea, and various Jimmy Dean assembled sandwiches with meat, cheese, and egg. Rooms on the back of the hotel are the most quiet. Within two blocks of grocery stores and shopping center. Conveniently located within 1.5 miles of CA-1.
