« Good location, quiet comfortable rooms, good breakfast »

Stayed here on a deal from Britney Ferry. Room 306 was newly refurbished, compact but highly functional. Nice bathroom with shower, no tub but that worked for us. Everything was spotlessly clean. Bed very firm but comfortable. Staff (other than desk person) were friendly and helpful.Their limited English + our limited French got us by. One gripe is while the wireless internet connection was strong, we were continually required to enter our password... very inconvenient! The included breakfast was top drawer, with the usual assortment of fruit, juices, pastries, cereals coffee etc but also included eggs cooked to order. Probably the best included meal we have experienced. The usual price of €16 would be pricey, but included in our package made it tres bon! As others have commented, the restaurant prices seemed high but with many near by dining options, we had no problems with affordable meals. We are traveling Europe for a year sans private automobile but this property is easily walkable from the train station and has many local bus options to augment it's central location in Caen.

« Never stay here if you rely on leaving the car park »

I stopped for two nights, second night I needed to meet a business colleague to wrap up after a client visit only to find a car abandoned midway in the car park, that you cannot entirely blame the hotel but the fact the staff refused to do anything from 8am until after midnight yes you can say these guys do not care about their guests. Overpriced for what it is a zero customer service never again!! Best western what on earth are you doing to allow this?

    « Normandy visit »

Staff friendly and helpful. Did not eat in hotel, so cannot comment about food, the bar was however extremely overpriced. Parking was free but very very tight ( have broken backlight to prove!). The charge for using the spa was unexpected therefore did not use. The weather was very warm so did not sleep as there was no air-con. Location of hotel was ideal for local shops, bars, tapas and bakeries. It was also ideal for visiting Normandy landing beaches.

« Convenient but not special »

For the most part just an average hotel that is conveniently located in Caen, and easy to get to the D-Day beaches with a car. The rooms are small but quiet. The breakfast provided is nothing special, and the spa is not available without an appointment and a fee. The dining room, however, was FABULOUS! The service and the food were both amazing. Service by the front desk was also good.

« Overpriced and unpolite staff »

The first night they accommodated be in a stunning room. On asking whether it'd cost me to stay another night they said EUR 108. When the next morning I agreed, they moved me to a much tinier and tired room in the annex, charging me EUR 135 instead. The fitness equipment is incredibly archaic.

« Nice place, great food and friendly staff »

Spent a week there for the D Day landing festival, the hotel is in a very old building with no elevator, I stayed in the second floor. The room was small but it had enough space to shower, sleep and use the desk to work if needed, the room was super clean and all the furniture was newish. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, almost all of them spoke english. The food at the restaurant was great, it was the best meal I had in Normandy that week. I strongly recommend the hotel.

« Decent but not great hotel downtown »

Very central location, easy to find. Basic rooms are very small by French standards, some with back alley views (we booked two rooms). Some mixup with the reservation. Some amenities, including the hotel's own mini-pool and sauna, are fee only. Parking is free but somewhat tight to maneuver. The hotel's hyped restaurant for us was a disappointment with decent but unexceptional food. The hotel bar however is well stocked with attentive service.

« Historic building with rooms of uneven qualities »

Excellently located but the standard rooms are sub-standard for a 4 star hotel. We reserved the de luxe rooms four months prior to our visit, reconfirmed our arrival a week before the actual date, yet they were not available upon arrival. It, however, has a bar with excellent selection of liquors. The staff is not mastering English.

    « Cute hotel »

Bedroom are ok and the size is fine, the night price does not include their mini spa (mini swimming pool, mini sauna, mini Hamam), staff is friendly! Hotel has its own parking for free! About their restaurant, the chef is also the owner of the hotel, cute food, nothing pretentious, quite good, and the gastronomic menu is very affordable!

    « Excellent reception staff »

Me and my partner did not stay here we wanted to use the spa facilities. The day we went we couldn't get in but they were extremely helpful in supplying us with more info for another down the road which was fabulous. Thank you to the receptionist and chef who helped and made our day

    « AVOID THIS HOTEL »

We checked into this hotel in April 2016 with the Tarif of 126 euro per night. Bit expensive we thought for a Best Western but checked in for 1 nite regardless. Once in the room we booked 2 more nites through a discount website. Checked with the gentlemen on the desk if he has received the booking and he said yes. Checked that we could stay in the same room he said yes. Checked again that he was sure, yes yes same room. Ok. So we have this room for 3 nites. Yes yes! Go to check out, woman on desk cracked the wobblies, probably because we booked online, and told us we had to pay for the 3 nights because as far as she was concerned, we were a no show for the online booking. Despite what we had told her regarding the conversation we had with the previous gentleman, she basically told us too bad so sad. So we paid for the room online AS WELL AS what she charged our credit card, which was 3 nights at the rack rate of 128 euro per night. Not happy jan! SO PLEASE AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!

    « Not a spa hotel »

This is not a spa hotel and for 100 euros a night it needs to stop pretending it is, you had to book the swimming pool etc 30mins before you use it? What? Come on? If it said that on website we wouldn't have used it. The room was fine if a little dated, it was quiet and beds were comfortable. No room service. Good location, central Caen, but of a rough area but might have been due to student festival being on. Didn't have dinner but the menu looked good, breakfast was okay, over priced at £16 euros but it was okay, lots of choice. There is a lack of security at the sliding door in the block of rooms we stayed in across the car park, anyone could have opened the door and used the lift. So, few minor issues but overall it's a good hotel, just doesn't live up to its name!

    « Excellence throughout »

Lovely small hotel with friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Food at breakfast and in the restaurant is superb. Hotel is located in view of the amazing Chateau and is close to the city centre, within easy walking distance of many sights. If arriving by Ferry, the bus from the port stops just a few minutes walk away. I would definitely recommend this hotel if visiting the area.

« Excellent location by day, very comfortable beds by night »

We stayed here in January and had a lovely time - it would usually be a little outside our budget but circumstances allowed us to go there :) The breakfast wasn't included in the price of the room, which for over 120 euros per night I might have expected, and the wifi cut off every 2 hours, which was somewhat annoying, but otherwise a very enjoyable stay.

    « Excellent »

Stayed here on weekend break. More up market than my normal choices but worth every cent! Arrived early but room was available already. If you want to make tea or coffee in your room ask for a plateau de courtoisie freely given by courteous and friendly staff Our deal included breakfast which was lovely. Fresh apple juice from local farm, omelettes and wonderful tergoule, a local rice pudding. Room was quiet, bath excellent and all near city centre

« Slap bang in the centre for shops and main attractions, toppo!! »

Perfect hotel with really tidy rooms, well equipped, ultra clean and comfortable. We were made very welcome and our room was at the back so very quiet and a tranquil outlook over neighbouring houses. This is city centre so don't expect acres of gardens! Was only there one night so we opted to eat in the hotel which was the best decision made as rather than traipse the street looking for somewhere on a Monday night we enjoyed a very classy meal in the hotel restaurant. Service was impeccable and very polite, food was to die for, each course a magic experience. We took the bid proved €33 pp menu which had great choices on and 4 courses with plenty of action in-between. Have eaten in Mich 3* a few times before and this is up there in style, service and food quality....well that's Normandie for you! Free parking, kindly extended in the afternoon for a few hours so we could walk the shops without having to find extra parking before leaving for the boat back to UK. Will return for sure. Need to try the sauna/spa and eat more of that fab food.

    « Warm Welcome »

Stayed at this hotel whilst in Caen for a conference. Staff very friendly and helpful even when we wanted omelettes at 10 pm! Comfortable room. Situated in a central location. Nothing was too much trouble.

« Great Night in Caen »

We stayed here in September when we came to see the Normandy Beaches, was a great hotel in the heart of Caen and only a 20 minute walk to the Memorial. The hotel is also just around the corner from the castle (although this was closed when we were there). The rooms were clean and tidy, the bed was very comfortable after a long day of walking! Breakfast was included in our package and was very good. Would also recommend the restaurant at the hotel for dinner. Amazing food and service. Couldn't fault our stay at this hotel.

    « best hotel »

we booked a standard room and were upgraded to luxury, superb. this 4 star hotel has the best restaurant I have ever eaten in, Michelin rated. the set 3 course menu at 37 euros was a dream, with the chefs appetiser and a huge cheese trolley and ending with petite fours, it was like 6 courses and if had in a top lopndon restaurant would have cost treble the price.the staff were great as was the location beside the castle and in the town centre. never used the spa but it looked good

    « Great Hotel! »

A fabulous hotel right in the heart of Caen. Only a 20 minute walk from the Memorial and right across the road from the Castle. Rooms were tidy and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and very traditional. The restaurant at night is top notch, excellent food and service. Couldn't fault it. Looked after our bags all day too on check out whilst we wandered the city.

    « OK hotel »

Stayed here 1 night with my wife, and we were satisfied. The hotel is at a very good location. Friendly and very helpful staff. My wife rented the well equipped spa and loved it. Very bad wifi. Somewhat expensive breakfast, but with the option for a smaller cheaper one. Some parking spots for the guests, which is good.

« Convenient location but not much more »

The hotel is conveniently located but not many more pluses from my point of view. Very tight car park, not big enough to accommodate all residents. No tea/coffee in room. No air conditioning. Noise from party goers one night until 3.00a.m. Breakfast an expensive extra.

    « Superb hotel - first class »

The Dauphin is an excellent hotel. I have stayed there for 15 years and the standard of welcome, cuisine and rooms is first class. Mr and Mrs Pugnat should be commended on this exceptionally well run and charming hotel, well situated in the centre of Caen.

« Hotel in center of town »

Hotel is in center of town in one old building. We have room in other entrance with window to street - sometimes noisy. Breakfast is enough. Parking is terrible - small space and less parking place. Room was clean and good size

    « "BAIT & SWITCH, BUYERS BEWARE" »

After my husband wrote his review on this website, the manager of this hotel contacted him to yell and make threats! In addition, since the reservation was used for business travel the manager sent a letter to complain about him to his company for his review! The original complaint was made because the hotel acted in bad faith by changing the price to a higher rate for the 2nd hotel night after the booking was already complete! In addition, the manager tried to do damage control by asking the receptionist to say there was a mistake with the price, and this was after the booking was already completely. The hotel should honor the price they sold the room for, PLAIN AND SIMPLE! The hotel acted in bad faith and refused to correct their error; instead they chose to make a bad situation worse. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!

    « 3 and 1/2 stars really »

Great location for the Ducal castle and downtown restaurants. Rooms typical European small. Beds OK. Window needed to be opened for cooling in early May. 2 or 3 flights of stair climbing required to get to the new rooms. Staff more than helpful with luggage and everything. Parking tight and limited. Bar has a great selection. Extra half star for staff.

    « Le Dauphin Caen »

A good well run hotel right in the heart of the city, handy for all the main sights. Parking is limited but we got a slot without difficulty. Room was very comfortable, breakfast up to the expected standard, reception staff very helpful and spoke good English - An enjoyable stay
