Best Western Plus Buxton Lee Wood Hotel

A wonderful old hotel with loads of character; meals are excellent; rooms are very comfortable; staff are so helpful; easy to walk down into the town

Staff and accommodation lovely, food great. Always made to feel welcome. We have stayed many times now and would highly recommend if you are visiting Buxton. The rooms are clean, food good and hot, great breakfast, location excellent for walking in to Buxton (although it is on a hill).

This is a brief review of an overnight stopover from a couple travelling to a North West destination from East Anglia. We booked a superior double room via Best Western Reservations for "dinner, bed and breakfast". There was an issue with the internet booking which was resolved by Matthew online at the hotel. Thank you again. The room was spacious and airy unlike the chain corporate boxes. Fine view overlooking Buxton Park, but stayed during Storm Kathleen so limited glimpses in cloud cover of local fells. The double bed was as big as a king plus. Mattress was perfectly comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both served in the huge and impressive conservatory "garden" room and approached after by-passing the hotel bar. Dinner menu included choice of courses from the full menu. An excellent meal accompanied by a bottle from a decent wine list. Breakfast was full of choice and cooked options and hot drinks ordered at table, but initial buffet starters, cereals and pastries are from servery tables and, thankfully, self service. Service at table and throughout our stay was exemplary and friendly. We highly recommend this hotel and restaurant after discounting others in town. It is suggested that booking should be made directly with the hotel. Parking is an essential and provided without charge next to the building with an overflow if required by groups. Buxton is surprisingly convenient for Cheshire and Manchester in addition to its being a well-known destination for location and activities itself.

I keep coming back to this hotel, having previously stayed in virtually every other hotel in Buxton including the most expensive. It is definitely Buxton's best hotel with the best food (hot and delicious even for fussy people like me), best staff (so friendly and helpful) and best parking (free). The pleasant, seven minute walk to the beautiful Buxton Opera House is worth it. Its location also makes it quieter than the town centre hotels.

Excellent hotel and restaurant. Travelled up to Buxton and Bakewell for an additional birthday treat for my son. Hotel staff were polite, friendly and courteous from start to finish. Hotel clean & tidy. Whilst noting other guest comments about nobody at the bar - there is a bell to use and staff busy multitasking arrive immediately so unsure what the issue is?

What an elegant hotel, in a great location. The meals were delicious and plentiful, but mostly we would like to say a huge thank you to all the lovely staff for their attention, helpfulness, kindness, efficiency and friendliness. It made our stay so very enjoyable - thank you.

The hotel is a great location for walking into Buxton & visiting local attractions such as Chatsworth House & Matlock Spa. We found the hotel just perfect, a lovely comfortable room, really great food/breakfasts & lovely helpful staff. Very highly recommended & we look forward to returning

We upgraded the room,which although very nice was cold when we arrived.For the price we expected a bath (shower).We arrived back from town around 10.30pm,the lounge/bar was cold but we had a nightcap (coats on).Nice breakfast selection although the bacon and sausage was undercooked.Plus's were the view and location,and we were allowed to check into our room a little earlier..Would we stay again?jury is out as there are plenty to choose from and for the price for B&B its certainly not cheap.Buxton is a great location to explore the Peaks,although cyclists and locals in a hurry tend to spoil the experience of enjoying the scenery.

Nice hotel, a little tired in places, however the staff were wonderful and the food was excellent. The hotel was clean, the parking was great and close to the town centre, I would be more than happy to return to this hotel.

What a fantastic hotel. Great location, restaurant, bar, food and rooms, and the staff made our stay extra-special. Every member of staff was really friendly, welcoming, super-efficient and helpful - and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be coming back!

Comfortable but needs upgrade , the bar is very quiet as is the hotel, we came back just after 10pm thought we would have a drink not a soul in the bar, no staff behind the bar , needs a bit of background music cheer it up, very quiet hotel, as my wife said "God's waiting room" Breakfast adequate

Lovely stay in very comfortable room. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and breakfasts delicious. The location is great with just a short walk into Buxton town. Lots of free parking available also. We will definitely stay here again next time we visit.

My wife and I were very comfortable at Lee Wood . Our room had a lovely view to the cricket ground ,comfy bed ,nice deep bath which we took advantage of because we were on a golfing break and we slept well . The staff were very friendly and breakfast was amazing . Plenty of parking and close enough to walk into town and what a stunning place Buxton is .

Great stay. Fantastic room. Restaurant food was excellent staff were extremely helpful throughout. Would definitely visit again. Room was upgraded and really appreciated it. Bathroom seem to have been recently refurbished and it showed.

Nice hotel at a good price, good food and really friendly and helpful staff. It was only a one night stay but we ate in the hotel for both dinner and breakfast, so got to meet a fair few of the staff, all of whom were were cheeful and helpful. A good welcome on reception too. Although we went for one of the cheapest rooms it was still very pleasant and certainly more than adequate.

We stayed in a deluxe room which had a small sitting area and bedroom. Although some areas are a little dated, the hotel is clean throughout, the staff are very friendly, and the location is perfect. The hotel even had a couple of EV charges on site!

This hotel was fantastic and the deluxe room was exactly that. We went to relax and we accomplished that easily. It was exactly what needed, and sorting dinners and breakfasts was easily accomplished with such helpful staff. Eleanor in the restaurant was fantastic.

The Lee Wood Hotel is a genuinely friendly family run hotel. From the booking through to breakfast their interest in your visit with them is authentic, which was quite refreshing relative to most hotel chains. (I got the impression that many of the other guests were regulars?) We hope to return there too! The refurbished rooms are clean, well presented. The hotel is a 5mins walk from the centre of Buxton in a residential area and very quiet on a Saturday night! If you have an EV, I'd recommend booking a charging space as non EV's park in the 4 EV spaces.

We have just stayed at the lee wood for a week and had a great time , perfect hotel so clean and proper service, we had room 10 on arrival but the bed was a bit hard ! They moved us to a luxury room 6 For the same money ! This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in, nice and quiet position you couldn't get better the staff are all so nice as well can't wait to return again in the summer We were sad to leave

Fantastic family run hotel. Staff all friendly and helpful. I can recommend the rib eye steak. I had this 2 nights running and it was excellent with the peppercorn sauce worth a special mention. Room was modern, warm and in good condition. Breakfast's were good as well. Can recommend a walk to Solomon's temple if you are fit. Otherwise park in the Poole's cavern car park and follow the yellow trail. Some steps to start then a steady climb.

Thank you for looking after us and providing everything we requested re our vegan diet. Our room was spotless clean and apart from not being used to firm mattresses and pillows we were comfortable. We will stay again so once again many thanks.

A decent hotel with a surprisingly excellent dinner (including catering for my gluten and nut allergies) and a good breakfast. Staff were pleasant and helpful and the location suited our needs, being 10 minutes walk into Buxton. The only point that let the overall experience down was the tired decor in the room, which was reminiscent of something from the 70s or 80s with heavy dark furniture and clashing wallpaper and curtains etc., though it was clean and a good size. The dining room was also rather gloomy, not somewhere we would have chosen to eat if we had not been staying (which is a shame as the food was really great). The main areas of the hotel around the stairs and lobby looked fine and were in keeping with the era of the building. Perhaps we drew the short straw from being in the annex, though we were in a superior room. Apart from this need of a decor update, this was a good hotel experience.

Had a really great one night stay - the whole experience was great. The room was so comfortable and spacious, the building was beautiful, we enjoyed drinks in the bar at the end of our night, and a great breakfast. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

Staff all welcoming and friendly. Large bedroom and bathroom with comfortable living room. Very clean throughout. Had breakfast and evening meal all delicious. Plenty of parking at the hotel. Easy walk to the centre of town under 10 minutes. Will definitely consider going back to this hotel on our next trip to Buxton and stay over for a couple of nights. A lovely, warm welcome from the moment we walked through the door! Our room was spotless, we enjoyed a tasty afternoon tea (before walking to The Opera House) and breakfast was excellent! Thank you to the whole staff! We definitely recommend this lovely hotel.

We booked a deluxe night away as a late Christmas treat and was expecting something special. This hotel, and its wonderful staff, blew us away and exceed all expectations. The room was spacious and exceptionally clean, with a very comfy bed. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious, again served by friendly and helpful staff. Cannot wait for our next visit!

Just spent the weekend at the Buxton Lee Hotel with a large group of friends. We had a great time. The hotel is fabulous but what makes it extra special are the staff. Everyone was really lovely and very accommodating of our many requests. Breakfasts were fantastic - whatever you wanted cooked to order and dinner was delicious too. Dont hesitate to book!

We had a wonderful time at the Buxton Lee Wood Hotel, the hotel is beautiful and immaculate. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. Our Room which had recently been refurbished was spotless and airy with a very comfy bed. The restaurant food is delicious. We loved the fact that on the breakfast menu you could mix and match anything you fancied. Our evening meals were one of the best we have had in a hotel. We would highly recommend this hotel and will be definitely coming back.

The service at this hotel was great. The deluxe room we booked was spacious, with a separate lounge area. It was clean, with a large bed & very good shower. Coffee machine was a bonus. Only minor recommendation for improvement was that TV's could be upgraded to larger smart TV's.

We stayed for 1 night as a family. The hotel is spotlessly clean. Everywhere is so comfortable. The food in the restaurant is absolutely delicious. We had evening meal and breakfast. Just couldn't fault it. The staff are all very friendly. We had a fabulous stay.

An excellent hotel. The room (more like a suite) was warm and comfy, plenty of power points, 2 TVs, tea and coffee, free WiFi. Staff were helpful all the time, catered for our gluten free member at breakfast. Real Ale on the bar and they even had EV chargers, we could charge while we slept.

Nice comfy beds and pillows .Same waitress as last time at breakfast very helpful but unobtrusive.Good breakfadt choices.Great value for money easy walk to town. Would have been better to have 2 bottles of water in room rather than one small one to share.

This hotel has a pleasantly faded ambience without being shabby , and is very clean. The staff are uniformly lovely and very helpful and chatty. Our room was welcoming and comfortable, with a good view of the The hotel is a short walk from the town centre, and a bit of an uphill climb to get back. Parking is limited and looks awkward but we managed our large car. Breakfasts are cooked to order and very good ( I especially enjoyed the Derbyshire Oatcakes: pancakes filled with cheese and bacon).

The staff were really welcome and friendly. The annex was very secluded and quiet. The curtains were really thick and kept out the light very well. The evening dinner was delicious and plentiful. We really enjoyed ourselves and felt pampered. We had a very relaxing visit. Thank you.

We had a lovely relaxing weekend break at Lee Wood Hotel. The bedroom was clean & spacious. All the staff were so friendly & helpful & the food was lovely. Compliments to the chef! We would highly recommend this hotel & happily stay again!! Thankyou for a great weekend!

Very comfortable room and bed and the food was good. Everyone very pleasant and friendly. Only one very small gripe- perhaps there should be a permanent light outside Room 34 as it is very dark even during the day and very difficult to see to cope with the door at night.

The event was an annual reunion of long-standing friends that involved an evening meal and overnight stay. The whole experience, from initial enquiry and booking through to the meal, service and accommodation was first class. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the meals (dinner and breakfast) were excellent and the accommodation spacious and comfortable. We were able to dine in a private room, which made the event even more special and personal. The rate charged represented good value for money. Thank you, Lee Wood Hotel, we shall come again.

Stayed at the Lee Wood during unusually hot weather. Our room was a good size but it did heat up in the day due to the south-facing aspect. We asked for a large fan and kept the curtains closed during the day when we were out, so it was tolerable by the evening. The food was pretty good, and the evening meals certainly generous, though too much for us to eat most of the time. The plates were always red hot but perhaps this is something elderly people expect. Trouble is, it dries out the food ! The staff always did their best but, as we've seen before, there were less staff than perhaps needed, this is a common problem and not just limited to the Lee Wood. All in all, a pleasant stay in an attractive area, surrounded by some beautiful countryside.

Wonderful room and very comfy bed. Breakfast was pretty good but food could have been hotter especially the hash browns which were quite cold. Had some difficulty finding the hotel but was an easy walk to the opera house.

Stayed here for 1 night. Very close to the Opera House as we were there to see The Mousetrap. About a 5 min walk. We stayed in a deluxe room and it was gorgeous - large room and fab bathroom. The breakfast was l delicious and lots of choice. Lovely people working there. All in all, a great stay.

Our third stay over the last few years. We just love the location of this hotel, the friendly and warm welcome from all the staff, the great restaurant food and perfect breakfast. We always pick a stay that coincides with a walk down to the Buxton Opera House for a great show. This time ‘The Mousetrap'.

My wife and I stayed for four nights to celebrate our Golden wedding anniversary. On arrival we were offered a selection of rooms and made to feel very special. The hotel is a traditional carpeted warm and cosy place, spotlessly clean and comfortable with the dining room being the best we have ever seen. The menu is varied and the food is delicious, breakfast and afternoon tea is also a delight. And as for the people (staff) well, every one made us feel so so special, we can't thank them enough for making our celebration a very memorable experience. We will return.

Had a fabulous 2 days at this hotel. The room was spacious and an extremely comfortable bed. There was even a small fan on the bedside table which I really appreciated! Looks like the rooms have been renovated because tastefully decorated and looked like a new modern bathroom. The reception, restaurant and housekeeping staff were all very polite and helpful. The breakfast was the best I've had in a hotel for a long time. Table service for cooked food and a buffet for continental foods. Good choice on the menu and good quality bacon and sausages. Took about 5 minutes to walk into the town. Will definitely be returning to this hotel again and absolutely no negative points.

Gorgeous hotel . Everything was perfect for myself and my 3 friends. Staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them . My room was huge with its own sitting room. Everything was beautifully clean . We ate breakfast in the restaurant and had dinner one night. Portions are very generous and the conservatory dining room is lovely. I would recommend this hotel whole heartedly.

Very traditional hotel with easy access to the centre of Buxton. Booked a superior double room which was reasonable in size and on the first floor. However the room overlooked a flat roof and a fire escape staircase which was not very pleasant. The room was adjacent to 5 other rooms which made for disturbed sleep. The dinner menu was mediocre and the vegetarian options very disappointing. One dish was inedible. I won't be retuning.

Lovely traditional hotel, very warm welcome and surrounding, very clean well equipped rooms. Breakfast had good selection, cooked breakfast was perfect. Very tasty bacon and sausages. Eggs cooked to my liking. Staff lovely and friendly, spoke to the cleaning staff on way out, who were also very kind and chatty. Would recommend and would stay at this hotel again.

Spotlessly clean rooms and hotel areas and staff can't do enough for you. Meals were really good and compared to other eating places value for money. Good choice of breakfast. My sister is gluten free and there were plenty of options . Drinks reasonable and good view from both bar area and conservatory dining room . We heard no noise at all. Would definitely recommend.

Well located, lovely architecture and spacious public rooms. The staff were excellent and our room (19) was a good size and well equipped. We only stayed one night but would return when next in Buxton. The carpets and soft furnishing were a little tired.

Booked a Quality Room which in fact was a Suite with a TV in both the lounge and the spacious bedroom. Spotlessly clean, great shower, good service. Lovely Breakfast. All topped off by the stunning location within the Gorgeous Peak District. Well worth a visit.

Working in the area ive stayed at the Lee Wood many times over something like 7 years. Its a great friendly place esp in the sun!! Food is supurb quality staff are akways helpful and friednly. Working through lockdown was hard, and although we still had struggles getting food ovetall the LW went above and beyond for the few of us keyworkers providing facilities, cutelry utensils etc when other 'purple' hotels just shrugged and didnt want to know... We dont forget that. Its always a pleasure for me to stay here, just done 4 nights, sadly i dont make the bookings or id be here all the time. PC 18/08/23

Pleasant stay and good location to walk into Town. Parking a little bit tight but found space for each night. Room not over modern but was clean and well presented. All staff were helpful and well mannered to assist any of our needs whilst in Buxton.

Very good overall. The room was spacious and very clean as was the bathroom. Waiting on staff attentive and friendly housekeeping staff who were very helpful. The only problem we had was the room was cold as there seemed to be an issue with the heating. However we were supplied with a fan heater which helped considerably.

We stayed one night so that we could go to the Opera house in Buxton. We had a very nice room which was well prepared and had everything that we needed. The hotel has very friendly and competent staff who couldn't have been more helpful. We would definitely stay again on another occasion.

Great position for the centre .Lovely hotel with staff who always pleasant and ready to assist in any way they can. Breakfast and evening meal was second to none and served piping hot by the brilliant restaurant staff. We upgraded to a superior room which was lovely but with no view at all, front facing seem to be the best. We will go back if we are in the Peak District again

Extremely helpful lady on reception when we arrived directed us to the Opera House and gave us various parking options Our Room number 12 was brilliant spacious beautifully appointed with an extremely comfortable bed The bathroom too was lovely We enjoyed a pre dinner diner drink in the lounge which was relaxed and peaceful Both my husband and I chose steak followed by cheese and biscuits and we couldn't fault either the food or the service Breakfast was equally good It was encouraging to see what I assume was a new waitress being quietly shown how to do things properly including wiping down tables after use Obviously maintaing standards is a priority We shall certainly return and would throughly recommend the hotel

The Hotel is just a 10min walk in Buxton centre, overlooking the Cricket ground. We upgraded to a supirior room which was lovely, albiet without any view! Rooms on the front have the best view. The staff were all very pleasant and so helpful.We intended eating out in the evening on the first night but the weather was inclement so we eat in the restaurant, so glad we did! the food was excellent with a varied menu and the service impeccable! nothing is too much trouble. We thought the price was very reasonable for a four star hotel, again the breakfast was lovely good selection of fresh fruit,cerials, juices with cooked breakfast served without any waiting. We could not fault the dining experiance at all. The room was a little chilly on the first night but we were provided with a heater immediatley on request. Overall a very pleasant stay and we will definitley return to The Buxton Lee Wood in the future.

Very comfortable twin room. Staff were friendly and professional. Good food we ate 3 breakfasts and 2 evening meals. Plenty of choice and freshly prepared. Pleasant Conservatory dining room. The hotel was convenient for walking in to town. The history of this hotel is interesting linked to the Duke of Devonshire and Joseph Paxton, maybe a display in the entrance hall of some of the history ?

Our family stayed here for two night as a base for my nephew's wedding. The building is clearly aged and has some beautiful features. There is a large conservatory used as a comfortable dining area with plenty of space between the tables. There is nothing worse than squeezing through gaps when people are eating. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was good. We took over the dining area for one night (we pretty much had the whole hotel anyway) for a pre wedding barbecue which was well managed with simple food done well. The rooms were a tad dull but had all the usual features and an adequate size. The bathrooms were nice. The beds were quite firm which suited me but the pillows could have been softer. A touch of WD40 on our door wouldn't have gone amiss either. Parking is good. On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I have been staying at the Leewood for many years and it always delivers, first class service , great food and lovely staff, for me best hotel in Buxton (and I'm originally from Buxton so know them all) great family feel at this hotel and always feels like going home when arriving there

My wife and I stayed for three nights, leaving yesterday morning. The hotel is very welcoming and friendly with plenty of areas to join others or just relax on one's own. Our room was large and comfortable with views overlooking the bowling greens. We enjoyed a superb meal on Sunday evening, my steak was one of the best I have ever had, and it wasn't overpriced. As we were touring the area we opted to eat out wherever we were, so we only had the one meal in the hotel. None were as good. The staff were so pleasant and that, as someone else has pointed out makes a world of difference to the experience. Breakfasts were splendid as well, all in all we found the hotel to have been a very lucky choice for us. Thank you.

I have stayed in virtually every hotel in Buxton including the new self-styled five star hotel and I can say without doubt that the Lee Wood is the best in Buxton. On quality and quantity of food, quality and number of staff and parking, it scores top marks over any other hotel in Buxton. You see the same staff from year to year. It is an eight minute walk up-hill/down-hill from the Town centre but it is worth that slight disadvantage to get such good food. In any case, you can take the car down the hill if you are going to an evening performance at the Opera House.

A very comfortable, pleasantly spacious room with a good outlook. Cleanliness immaculate. Staff very helpful and caring. Ambiance excellent. Parking easy and ample. A throughly enjoyable stay and I hope to return!

The staff here are lovely. On arrival we discovered we had booked online for the wrong month. The guy on reception coped with the situation wonderfully. He managed to find us a couple of rooms and honoured the internet prices for later in the year. Service in the restaurant was very helpful. For breakfast there is an extensive buffet for cereals, juices and pastries, whilst the large choice of main dishes are cooked to order. Rooms are spotlessly clean and serviced every day. Our rooms were not air-conditioned, but all the facilities worked fine. The complimentary bottles of Buxton water were an added bonus. A convenient location for the railway station and opera house, although a bit uphill.

Every member of the staff we came across was very friendly and helpful. Hotel location is good. Room & bathroom were clean and nicely decorated. Check-in & Check-out was quick and smooth. We were also given access to the room two hours prior to check-in time, which is awesome. Breakfast was good but I think there is room for the improvement in terms of quality of ingredients. It was quite surprising to hear the person snoring in the room above us! Then at 6am we woke up because the person in the room above us was walking in his room. This means the hotel needs to think about improving the rooms floors because the sound was quite loud.

We arrived after dark having spent most of the day stuck on the M1 trying to get to Bradford to see a customer. So it was with great relief when we finally arrived at the hotel. Every member of staff we encountered had a happy smile and were so eager to make our stay comfortable. Room was spacious and warm and everything worked! Ate in the restaurant, good choice of food and wines and excellent service. Great breakfast, left happy.

I stayed here for 5 nights with a group of ladies on a sewing/quilting retreat. My bedroom was recently refurbished with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom had a large walk in shower. we had half board and every day the food was delicious, the oatcakes at breakfast being memorable. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The reception area was being redecorated at the time of our stay and the maintenance staff were also friendly and careful not to cause any problems. I' looking forward to returning next year.

This hotel is just amazing our room was big warm and very comfortable everywhere is dpotless!! We also ate in the restaurant and the young waitress was so friendly please pass on our thanks. Clean, friendly, homely. Were upgraded to a superior room on arrival so nice surprise. Breakfast very good. 10 min walk to Buxton centre. Parking at hotel no problem. Polite helpful staff. Clean rooms. Communal areas nice to use. Good value.

My husband and are have been to the above hotel many t8mes and have always found staff and service excellent. and a perfect place for visiting surrounding places to visit. Also it is a good sign that the staff have been there for a long time and are very friendly.

Great hotel in quiet position but close walk to town. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful with nothing too much trouble. All areas of the hotel were comfortable and warm. We stayed as a group of friends for NYE and we all had a fabulous time with great food and music in a very comfortable and warm environment. Recommend a walk into town and around the park. We would recommend this hotel and we will definitely be staying here again.

We stayed for a couple of nights between Christmas and New Year, and could not have been better looked after. The service was superb, the staff were all excellent. We were advised that the menu would be limited on our first night, as the hotel had been closed over Christmas, it seemed fine to us! Rooms, food and service were all great - and all for a very reasonable price.

trying to decide where to stay in buxton the obvious choice seemed the Palace but so glad we chose the Western. So better in many ways, lovely room, quiet, friendly, great breakfast included and free parking too. Close to the centre with a walk not much different to the Palace. easy choice for the future

Overall a lovely stay. Perfect location for Buxton and surrounding walking areas. Hotel was comfortable and staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfasts were fantastic with a good selection of choices. Our room was a good size and clean with a comfortable bed. It is ready for a refurbish though as some of the fittings were old and fabrics outdated. It was great to have a bath and shower with plenty of hot water.

We have stayed here a couple of times now and each time have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff at the Lee Wood are exemplary in every way. They are always welcoming, genuinely friendly and wonderfully professional. Nothing is too much and they greet you with a smile each time - they clearly enjoy their work. The hotel is very clean, with good facilities and the rooms we've had have been very comfortable with everything you'd expect. The breakfast is superb, with delicious cooked options in addition to a well laid out continental buffet. We wouldn't stay anywhere else and are very much looking forward to returning in the near future. Thank you for making our holidays so special.

Lovely stay with friends for our Christmas party weekend. Very warm and comfortable rooms, despite being an extremely cold weekend. Such friendly and helpful staff - excellent service. We had delicious meals and really enjoyed our stay at the Lee Wood.

We stayed with a group of friends. Our room was very comfortable and had views over Buxton and beyond, We had a large table for Dinner and the food was delicious. The staff are brilliant and very friendly and helpful. The location on the edge of town is ideal and it is only a short walk into town for a great selection of pubs/restaurants and interesting shops. We would definitely stay again. Thanks to all at Lee Wood. We walked from the hotel up to Solomon's Temple which gives fantastic views over the local countryside - wrap up warm and you'll need decent walking footwear not flip flops!

We stayed for 3 nights in early December, with the first frosts of the year giving a fantasic festive feel to the stay, matched by the lovely Xmas decorations in the public areas. We had a Superior room, overlooking the cricket ground etc. Very comfortable bed, and lovely and warm (considering the current energy costs). We also had breafasts in the lovely conservatory. Great venue, though a touch cold given the frosty weather. Brilliant breakfasts, though croissants need to be be warm. Reception were happy to provide any extras we needed. If there was a niggle it was the apparent lack of consistentcy in the house keeping (e.g. no toiletries left on the last day.

The staff were outstanding. Nothing was to much bother and very pleasant. Large spacious bedroom (room 6). We went for a funeral and the hot buffet was exceptional. Food was very good. Centrally placed but nothing is on the flat in the Peak District.

We stayed at the Lee Wood Hotel whilst on a coach trip to Chatsworth. I can honestly say that from the moment we arrived the friendly staff could not have been more helpful. Everyone could not have done more to make our stay a lovely experience. The food too was really good and plentiful. We have stayed in many hotels over We are certainly recommending Lee Wood to all our friends

the hotel is on the heights of the city, quiet and with a clear view. The room was large enough, recently redone with a large quality bed, modern decoration and a very nice shower. Perfect buffet breakfast the general appearance of the hotel looks a bit dated at first sight but that gives it a certain charm and everything is clean and well maintained

Traditional style hotel with comfortable bedrooms. Reception staff very helpful. Restaurant menu was somewhat limited so the four of us decided to eat in Buxton. Medicre breakfast in large conservatory that is need of complete renovation. The glass or plastic roof is very dirty and needs replacing or serious hard-core cleaning. Breakfast on buffert table was limited in variety. Cooked breakfast included very dry muffins (nit sweet type) with no style or presentation. My sausage in a muffin was literally inedible. No smoked salmon option "We've not had the delivery this morning" didn't go down well. The waitress was not very friendly and lacked some social skills. Price was reasonable but the place could do with a "Hotel Inspector"makeover.

Stayed here overnight to break our journey from Mansfield to Knutsford. Hotel really nice, friendly staff, good choice for breakfast albeit the cooked one wasn't very hot. Only downside we both have walking difficulties and the hotel is up a huge hill which is fine by car but we walked down to have dinner so we had to walk back up in stages. I was not impressed by the size of the room though, I paid for a. Upgrade and expected a larger room.

The Lee wood looks a little tired from outside, but once through the doors there is a warm wecome from the staff. We paid extra for a de-luxe superior room and it was spectacular. The large room had two windows, a large comfortable bed, a sofa,desk and an out of this world Bathroom. On this cold windy night, the room toasty warm. Breakfast had a super choice and verything was excellent. Recommend to all

This hotel exceeded my expectations and my husband and I were both very pleased with the comfort and cleanliness all around. We couldn't get the TV remote to work and so asked the receptionist, who came up straightaway and sorted things out. Breakfast food was wonderful and good quality. All in all a very comfortable stay and would definitely go back

Stayed for two nights booked through work booking platform. i use a hire car when traveling and was given one that was a large suv. had to park it out on the road as carpark a bit tight. plenty of parking on street so no problem. no issues with check in. found room on 2nd floor lovely if a little hot. turning down heating and opening window meant i had better sleep the second night. corridors were a bit creaky but an old building so no issue. breakfast (included in my rate) was excellent both mornings. Easy walk to opera house/town. highly recommended. so far my favourite hotel in Buxton.

What a lovely hotel! From the front of house staff to the waiter and waitresses they were all superb and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The room was well laid out and clean as was the hotel in general. I got a really good feeling about this hotel and the staff and witnessed the really good interaction between the staff and all guests. Although this was a business trip I would not hesitate to book for a leisure visit as is perfectly situated for a leisurely wander into town or a trip out into the Peak District.

The bedroom/en-suite was extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast (a wide & varied selection) was served in the conservatory which enhanced the whole experience. The staff were all welcoming and worked hard to ensure our visit was a happy one.

Stayed for one night as attending a graduation at the University of Derby. We loved it. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and dinner and breakfast were very good.

We came for a weekend combining a conference with a relaxing stay. The booked a superior double in the Annex but offered the same in the hotel. The rooms are spacious, well furnished and the bathrooms are clean and well equipped. The orangery offers a beautiful ambience for breakfast which is a choice of high end cereals, juices, fruit, and cooked breakfast including full English, smoked salmon and various other combinations. The staff's professional attitude is second to none. Overall this is a good value for money, quiet venue situated in a waking distance from restaurants, shopping area and railway station.

We stayed for two nights while attending a conference at the Dome. We found the room very comfortable, and the staff very agreeable and efficient. We didn't eat here, but we found the lounge/bar facilities very inviting. Will definitely be staying here again if visiting the area!

It's a wonderful house manor house like hotel, with lovely vintage brown furniture and classical design. It's clean and offers a good breakfast. The rooms are spacious and provide all the amenities one needs.

Just got home from my short stay here. The staff are brilliant. Nothing too much trouble from start to finish. All professional and polite. Wouldn't hesitate in rebooking if I was staying in the area. If your looking to stay in or around Buxton then look no further. There Best! Western for a reason

Visited with Riviera travel - 4 night break October 9th - 13th. Staff pleasant and helpful, food quality good. However .. hotel let down by a) lift not working, and no attempt to fix. Hotel supposedly full of older adults(myself included) who then had to climb 4 flights of stairs at least 3 times daily. Unacceptable. b) Room (30) had a shower over the bath, one I cannot use due to spinal problem and arthritic knees. Asked to change rooms - offering to pay extra. Told that was not possible, if I'd wanted a walk in shower I should have booked one! In all my hotel visits UK and worldwide that was the first time I'd heard that one. Several fellow travellers, and myself, could not use the shower. My wife tried, ending up with a large bruise to her leg as she tried to get out from the wet shower safely. Photo available if hotel needs proof. c) Room had been replastered, moving a socket down at the side of the dressing table. Looked terrible as though one of the staff had had a go, leaving a socket fixed at an angle, a gap at the side ... all conveniently (unsafely) placed by the side of the kettle. d) No PAT testing labels visible anywhere - I just hope they had them stored safely somewhere. e) Banisters to stair way all loose - another H&S hazard. Riviera Travel blameless - 'Best Western Plus' should read 'Worst Western'. Only gave 2 stars due to staff - won't consider going there again.

A short but extremely pleasant stay - excellent location for town centre, good sized room with excellent facilities, comfortable beds, and spotlessly clean. All the staff were extremely pleasant, affable and very helpful. A joy to have table-service at breakfast! All the meals were perfectly cooked and offered a good selection.. The coffee too was perfect, always a good sign! Would certainly recommend this hotel and am sure will visit again - soon !

I have stayed here before and liked it because the staff were friendly and it is a nice traditional old building in a good location just outside the town. The staff are still helpful and friendly and I was generally happy with my stay. There was a wedding party in, the same as last time but no real impact on us. I was disappointed because I was offered an upgrade to a superior room and my bid was accepted but no superior room available on arrival. I suspect they give them away if they can get a better price. Our room was fine though, with a nice view. The fire alarm went off around 1.00 in the morning and we had to evacuate. After 15 mins of standing around everyone was allowed back in. There was no explanation and no apology which I was surprised at, given that it was quite a scary experience in the middle of the night.

Good size room, looked recently decorated. Well stocked with tea, coffee, biscuits. Staff were excellent and although they were short staffed they coped well working sometimes in the bar and then serving meals. Food very good. They even managed to produce an excellent meal during a 3 hour power cut.

First impression, slightly dated hotel but clean and the staff were friendly. First impression of Room 17, billed as a superior room (1 of 2 rooms up a small flight of stairs), a reasonable size but tired and in need of redecoration. Definitely not superior. The toilet roll holder was broken (we thought about nipping into Buxton to buy a replacement for them ) One small bottle of Buxton spa water provided and 2 glasses. Yes folks we were in Buxton and all that was provided was one small bottle of water! Second impressions; a rock hard uncomfortable bed. My husband woke every hour with joint pain. I managed just 2 hours sleep. Unfortunately, the disappointment of a dreadful mattress was surpassed by the lack of soundproofing in the room. We could hear everything our neighbours said and did. A gross invasion of their privacy. As they moved around their room our door rattled loudly and at times it sounded as though they were actually in our small wardrobe. The final straw was being woken after only 2 hours sleep by their alarm and the sound of them using their toilet (we could hear everything) That morning we reported our problem to reception. The staff were very apologetic and helpful and we were able to change room. Unfortunately another ‘superior' room was not available but we were advised that we would receive a refund of the difference in room price. We were happy with their response to our problem. Later, as we collected our new room key, we were a little surprised to be handed a letter from the hotels ‘managing partner'. The passive aggressive letter bore no hint of an apology for our inconvenience but merely referred to customer feedback and the serviceability of mattresses. We chuckled at the absurdity of the letter and we agreed it must have been written by Basil Fawlty. We checked out the following morning and this is where our mildly disappointing stay became something akin to a cringeworthy episode of Fawlty Towers. We were told as we checked out that we couldn't receive a refund for the difference in room rate because the full amount had already been taken from our account. We were a little surprised having been told we would be refunded the difference, but to be honest, we had not been concerned about the money, just a decent nights sleep. Instead of a passive aggressive letter, a hotel with decent management might have offered us a free drink in the bar to compensate us for the lack of sleep, privacy, and the inconvenience of moving rooms. Had this been the case we would have left the hotel with memories of an enjoyable stay. As we departed I asked the young lady on reception what category the room we had swapped to actually was. She looked on the system and confirmed it was a standard room. (We had paid for superior) At that moment a voice piped up from behind a screen and exclaimed ‘IT WAS AN EXECUTIVE ROOM, YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO ANY REFUND' We were somewhat taken aback by the interjection. I commented that the hotel website makes no reference to such a room category and that the receptionist had in fact already confirmed, by looking at the computer system, that it was a standard room we had been moved to. This clearly angered the (I was going to say gentleman but unfortunately his behaviour was in no way befitting of that title) so I shall refer to him as Basil, informed us he was the ‘retired owner/manager' of the hotel and as it turned out, (not surprisingly) the author of the ridiculous letter that had made us chuckle the previous day. Unfortunately, what then followed was truly upsetting and incredulous and I have submitted a formal complaint to Best Western. The ‘retired owner/manager'/Basil began to berate us. As we tried to leave he accused me of making a member of staff cry the previous day. We were both shocked and confused at this ridiculous accusation. We pointed out to him that the member of staff in question had taken the time (despite being incredibly busy) to find us another room and had kindly advised us we would receive a refund for the difference in room rate. There were definitely no tears involved. As we tried to understand where his baseless accusation had come from, it became apparent from his ramblings, that the staff member had allegedly been in tears whilst talking to him later that day and not whilst she kindly and efficiently helped us with our concerns. I know that his treatment of us rendered me close to tears and I feel genuinely concerned for the welfare of the hotel staff if his appalling behaviour towards paying customers is anything to go by. Unfortunately the shocking events don't end there. As we tried to leave I was delayed by holding the door open for an elderly gentleman who was struggling with his luggage. As I held the door open for him the ‘retired owner/manager'/managing partner dashed out of a side door and continued to berate us. The gentleman I was holding the door for looked as surprised and bemused as we did. We returned to our car and I was shocked and upset. I didn't understand how my actions could have upset the member of staff. I returned to reception to ask if the young lady was working. I wanted to offer her an apology, if it had transpired that her kindness towards us had got her in to trouble. The receptionist advised me that the staff member was on a day off. At that moment ‘retired owner/manager' came storming out from reception, and before I realised what was happening, he herded me into another room, closed the door, and began to shout at me. I was flabbergasted and in hindsight his actions and defamatory accusations are all the more unforgivable and disturbing. Fortunately my husband rescued me and we beat a hasty retreat. Had this been an episode of Fawlty Towers we might have laughed at the absurdity of the situation we found ourselves in. In reality this was a distressing episode that left us shaken and upset as we made our way to a family gathering. The purpose of our weekend away. We have stayed in many hotels around the world for business and pleasure but never have we been treated in such an appalling manner. And for what reason? Was it really to avoid having to refund a few pounds of a £360 bill for 2 nights mediocre accommodation? We remain baffled. I realise that in writing this lengthy ode I lay myself open to further abuse from him or his management team in their response. Whatever the reply, I hope it is mindful of the fact that aggressive management responses to poor reviews on trip advisor, are as damaging and damning to the establishment, sometimes more so, than the original reviews. The managing partner/‘retired owner manager' should be ashamed of himself and take time to consider how is actions reflect upon the hotel and the efforts of the otherwise friendly and hardworking staff. I would like to think that he is remorseful and embarrassed by his ridiculous behaviour that was played out in front of his staff and customers. Alas I am inclined to agree with my husband who is more sceptical.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left this hotel, we could find no fault at all. Lovely, friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. We stayed in a beautiful room that was modern and spotlessly clean. It was one of the only hotels that we have stayed in that we never heard a sound from any of the other guests staying there. With a fantastic selection of food and drink, to suit all tastes. Just a short walking distance into the heart of Buxton Town and all the local historical attractions, we didn't need to use the car to get around. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone if they want a lovely stay in this beautiful town.

We stayed at the Low Wood for four nights in a deluxe bedroom which was lovely. The bed was comfortable and there was a separate lounge area. All of the staff were helpful, breakfast was excellent . We would definitely stay there again.

This is a lovely hotel only a short walk from the centre of Buxton, very quiet and peaceful. Our room was very well appointed and the facilities just what you would hope for. The staff are what made the stay stand out. There is nothing that is too much trouble, very friendly, welcoming and willing to help. That is everyone from the room servicing team right through to the restaurant. Loved it - we will be back!

Nice room at the front of the building overlooking the gardens and cricket ground across the road. Only criticisms are that the window frame was in dire need of repair and redecoration and a fridge in the room would have been useful. Also when we arrived we had difficulty in accessing the car park as there was a van unloading equipment and a wedding taking place. However we were not disturbed by the wedding.

Stayed at Lee Wood Hotel for a couple of nights and loved it. Our room was so fresh and newly refurbished, so big and spacious. The staff were absolutely faultless, from reception through bar, restaurant, room service … all excellent. We didn't like it ….. We LOVED it.

We had a very good and spacious hotel room and breakfast was excellent. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the centre of Buxton. The hotel staff were all really helpful and friendly. The restaurant has a very nice ambience.

A nice old building with lots of charm, our room however had been updated and was nicely decorated and modern. The staff were lovely and very attentive. Had a nice breakfast. (in the modern conservatory) I would recommend this Hotel and we will use it again when visiting Buxton.

Oatcakes for breakfast! Quiet residential location about 5 mins downhill walk to centre of town. Room was (of course) clean but all very spacious. Plenty of parking and 7kw car charging points available (charge assist app). Staff were fab and most significantly of all a local delicacy on the breakfast menu.

Excellent stay, staff could not have been more helpful. Freshly cooked breakfasts to order. Dinning room in the conservatory surrounded by flowering garden shrubs. Pleasant bar for evening drinks and snacks. Good size bedroom, plenty places for belongings, very comfortable bed. Excellent walk in shower room, spacious, also with plenty space for toiletries and for hanging towels. A mirror in just the right place for both tall and short people! Clean, modern facilities in a charming, typical Buxton stone villa. Would certainly return to Lee Wood.

This is a wonderful hotel in a prime location in Buxton. Easily accessible to everything and comfortable accommodation! The breakfast was incredible and all of the staff were so lovely. Me and my partner will definitely be back!

We arrived early and the room was ready, a superior room overlooking the garden. It was well furnished with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. In the hot weather it could really do with air conditioning. The fan supplied was useless. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was excellent with great food and service. Breakfast was also great with good choices at the buffet and freshly cooked hot items.

We had a 3 night stay here in August. Comfortable room in their quiet annexe which was well appointed and cool in this hot spell. Great breakfast and tasty food at dinner. Lovely gardens in a sylvan area of Buxton and only a short walk into the town centre. Very friendly and professional staff. Thoroughly enjoyable. Well done guys.

A lovely hotel with terrace and super dining room, will stay again, helpful staff and a lovely setting, gorgeous gardens, a new favourite! A quiet location but walkable to town for those who choose to walk into town down the road. Nr to all the local attractions. would say good for those visiting Buxton festival week, but good for a break anytime. Like a country hotel although in town, not far from the famous Crescent, and iconic places of this famous Spa town.

I contacted the hotel before my visit to explain that I wanted to book a meal in the restaurant as the hotel was an ideal place to meet up with relatives as we were travelling from Wigan, and my relatives were travelling from Nottingham. The email response was very welcoming and I was told we were welcome to remain in the hotel to have teas and coffees before and after our meal. As soon as we arrived the lovely waitress brought a jug of chilled water with lemon, and later once our relatives arrived we had coffees with a plate of lovely complimentary biscuits. Our meals in the dining room were lovely, everyone enjoyed them and there were empty plates all around. Again the waitress was helpful and attentive. Afterwards we moved back outside and sat and nattered for an hour without having any further food or drink, but we were never made to feel that we should leave and it all made for a wonderful day. It was all the small touches that made this visit so special, the iced water, the plate of biscuits and the helpful and friendly staff. We will definitely visit again, and will hopefully stay in the hotel next time.

We spent two nights at the Lee Wood Hotel and had a lovely time. The hotel is clean, modern and nicely decorated. The staff were wonderful. So friendly and helpful. We had a small room on the second floor at the front of the building with a lovely view and every convenience. One quirk was the bathroom that was like a corridor - long and thin which my husband found was not easy to get to the toilet at the end. There is plenty of parking at the front and back of the hotel, lovely gardens and outside seating. We would certainly return when in the area.

From ease of booking, helpful staff when I phoned ahead to the personal service we received our stay was brilliant. As a wheelchair user I had some extra needs but nothing was too much trouble. All the food was excellent, we will definitely stay again. Grateful thanks to all the staff.

Beautiful restaurant in conservatory with lovely food and pleasant helpful staff. We had large room overlooking gardens. Very pleasant, clean with comfortable king size bed. Very satisfied on our second visit and will stay again.

We stayed here for a night after going to see the opera, Helen at reception was the only good thing I can say about the hotel, the room was dated and the bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever, tried, to sleep on, we even considered driving 3 hours home at midnight. Tried to call reception, no answer, went to find someone to see if I could get a couple of duvets to sleep on and found the night porter who kindly gave me a duvet, packaged in a bag, that turned out to be a few sheets. After an hour of sleep and broken backs we spoke to reception who apologised and said a partner would call to resolve the issue. Nicola did call me later that day to say that they had "never had a complaint about the beds before" and "everyone always tells us how comfortable they are" I guess our experience was either a rarity or someone is telling porkies. She said if I had tested the bed before going to sleep they might have been able to do something about it, our fault I guess for not having a nap before going out for the night. She offered me a 10% discount to appease me, wow, a whole £16.90 back. Obviously I declined, also a free upgrade to come and see if the other beds we just as uncomfortable....hmmm. Buxton is a lovely place, with lots of amazing looking hotels, just not this one. In the end I admit its our fault for going for a cheap option....mind you, premium inns are cheap....and very comfortable.

Excellent in all aspects. Superb team across all depts,great food and location .Well equipped bedrooms, good meeting rooms,parking, nice terrace to sit out on. Particular thanks to the amazing Bozena but all staff excellent.

The hotel is well located just a short walk to the opera house and centre. The superior room we had was well appointed and had sofa and armchair plus a netexpresso machine plus daily water replenishment(Buxton of course). Comfortable lounge and an excellent restaurant - freshly cooked breakfast rather than buffet(other than cereals and fruit etc) and a good choice of menu options which were great. We were in DBB and could choose any 3 courses none of this allowance or supplement malarkey. Meals relaxed and not rushed and eating early when off to an event(Buxton festival) was not an issue. Have stayed several times before and will do so again later this year.

Very nice welcome, lovely room which was modern and clean. Easy parking and some nice views. Bar are was welcoming and the main conservatory dining area was very well laid out. Our conference was attended well and all the amenities the hotel offered were top-notch! Looking forward to my next stay here.

Lovely short stay at Buxton Lee Wood Hotel. Reception and staff all very helpful and friendly. Our room 8 had a recent expensive re-furb and looked and felt fantastic. Tastefully done with very comfortable beds. Full marks for the improvements! Will be staying again.

Excellent comfortable accommodation, great food and friendly staff. The location was close enough to the town for an evening out but far enough away to be noise free. I cannot fault this hotel and would recommend.

Very comfortable, friendly and well positioned to walk into the centre of Buxton. Great breakfasts, nothing too much trouble for the staff. So good to spend a few days in a hotel with character, and with parking.

Our second visit here as we were once again seeing a show at the Opera House. Very welcoming staff as ever and a lovely afternoon tea before we set off to the show. The breakfast choice was well prepared and our room was comfortable and quiet.

I was part of a travel group spending five days seeing the many treasures of the peak District. The Lee Wood made a superb base and in every way exceeded my highest expectations. The rooms were comfortable and quiet, the public areas likewise, the staff were, without exception, friendly and efficient. But the most outstanding aspect for me was the quality - and quantity! - of the food, at every meal. If I ever return to the Peak District, I would head straight for this hotel.

Excellent hotel with truly professional, caring, helpful and genuinely nice people. Hotel decoration was good and went with the area. Room was good and met all our needs. Cappuccino with semi skimmed milk and chocolates.

We have just returned after a 5 night stay, being part of a walking group. The hotel is situate within an easy walk of the centre of Buxton, it is well maintained and with good parking either on site or on the road outside, at the bottom of the rear drive. It is good value for money, nice clean rooms, lovely food and friendly service from staff who really couldn't have been more helpful.

Very friendly and helpful staff, Wonderful location with good views from rooms in the front of hotel. A comfortable room with windows that actually open to lovely fresh air. One or two things not perfect but staff eager to sort out such that it really did not feel there was any issue at all. Decent size en suite with bath and shower. Impressed that parking space kept for me for duration of stay.

Large bedroom on upper floor with windows facing both east and west. Large comfortable bed, large tv and excellent bathroom. Quality of breakfast and dinner of a high standard with a excellent choice. All the staff were friendly, approachable and helpful. Location is excellent; a short walk to the centre of Buxton and just across from the bowling green. Nearby is Victoria Regina post box and a blue plaque showing where Vera Brittain lived during her teenage years

Set in beautiful grounds opposite Buxton Cricket club. We had a superior room in the annexe. Food at the hotel is excellent. Short distance to the town centre. Staff are friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our last minute getaway and hope to return.

Arrived early - room was ready in any case. Bell for check in hidden slightly - we missed it. Room was "traditional" in furnishings but very clean, tidy, nice view out and was greeted with a kitkat and bottled water - nice touch. Restaurant light and airy, food really nice, decent price. Bar prices very reasonable!! Staff friendly and helpful, knowledgeable about local area. Parking is a bit on the snug side, but would definitely stay again.

We recently spent four days at this hotel so that we could explore Derbyshire. The staff were very pleasant and we were impressed by the receptionist who changed our room on arrival so that we were not next door to a room where workmen were re-furnishing. The room was very comfortable and well serviced, though in the interests of the Planet it would perhaps have been better if the towels…which I placed each morning on the towel rail…had not been changed every day! We did not eat in the restaurant at night as there was very little on the menu for vegetarians. But breakfasts were okay…not a very imaginative continental breakfast…but the cooked part was fine.

One of the good things about working away from home is staying in this hotel. I've stayed here so many times over the last 5 or so years at times it feels like second home. Sadly of late stays have been reduced to one or two nights but they're always good.

We spent 2 nights here on Friday 29th April. It's a great central location for sightseeing Buxton, Chatsworth House, Bakewell and so on. The staff are just amazing and nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfasts were really good with a lovely view of the dales and we also ate at the Hotel both nights which was very good also. The choice of food was great both nights. We will have no doubts about staying here again and will likely do so in the near future. A big thanks to all the lovely staff.

Lovely hotel, in a central yet quiet and pleasing location. Room really comfy with views over the cricket ground. Massive super king bed with lovely linen. Staff all very helpful. I enjoyed my breakfast.

We stayed two nights at Buxton Lee Wood Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was situated in well kept grounds on a quiet road with views over the cricket field and bowls club. Parking was not a problem and our room was fine. Breakfast consisted of a good cold selection and both the smoked salmon and full English were lovely . The evening meal was equally delicious and we were glad we chose to eat in the hotel restaurant. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Should we visit Buxton again we would be more than happy to stay here again and thoroughly recommend it to anyone else.

We spent two nights here, staying in the annexe, and it was fantastic! The room was very large, lovely comfortable bed, sofa, chairs & table plus desk etc - not at all cramped. Bathroom & shower were lovely too. Staff were really helpful, breakfast was delicious, and one evening we ate here too - the food was delicious.

Hotel was easy to find and despite being busy, we found parking ok. All staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was interesting and the food was excellent. The building was typical of BW. We will look forward to another stay.

This was a random choice but a good one. The staff members, from reception through to the cleaners, were extremely friendly and helpful. I telephoned in advance to ensure there would be parking and arrived to find a cone guarding a dedicated space for me. The standard of the room and bathroom was absolutely first class and I could not fault any aspect. The conservatory restaurant is attractive and spacious and the food was excellent, accompanied by good service. This hotel is not cheap but is comparable with much inferior nearby hotels with similar prices. The location is quiet, opposite the park, yet within five minutes' walk from the centre. Highly recommended if you are planning a visit to Buxton.

This is our second stay at Lee wood, A good hotel is built around good staff and ALL of the staff are truly excellent. Their focus is clearly delivering excellent service to their guests. Outstanding ! Well done Lee Wood and many thanks for making our stay so memorable.

This is a hotel we have come back to a number of times, and will do so again. The food and service are always excellent. Friendly, good location and well-presented. This has become one of our favourite hotels to visit. We missed it for two years due to the pandemic but it was great to go back and find the same excellent standards in place.

Very pleased with the overall standard and friendliness of the staff. The location was ideal for visits to the town centre by foot and had easy access to major routs in and out of Buxton. I will definitely stay again on my next trip to the area.

This is a family hotel with staff who treated us like family. The food was excellent and the bar served local beer. We also had a party there on one of the afternoons. Again, the food, staff and rooms were excellent

We were upgraded to a deluxe room upon arrival. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was no hair dryer in our room and the receptionist went out of her way to find us one. It's in a peaceful location but close to opera house which is why we chose it. Bed was comfy and spotlessly clean bedding and towels. We didn't have an evening meal but breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Nothing not to like.

Just back from 2 night break in Buxton. Good hotel with good room (No. 2). Breakfast and evenings meals were excellent. Staff polite and professional. Great break - many thanks. Close to centre if a bit hilly. Good place for visiting surrounding area - Matlock, Bakewell etc.

Really impressed. The hotel took notice we were vegan and chefs had arranged special vegan options. For breakfast I had a delicious cooked breakfast with spinach mushrooms tomato and beans I could tell the chef went the extra mile adding pepper etc. It is so refreshing to be treated as a valued guest rather than a nuisance. We had a superior room in annex, spacious, lovely furniture comfy bed. Service top notch helpful without being intrusive. Will definitely return.

Lovely hotel. Had a delicious meal in the large conservatory and breakfast next morning which was equally delicious. All of the staff were lovely and helpful. Excellent location and a short walk into Buxton. The old victorian Park is beautiful and you can imagine how it was back in the day. Buxton it's self has charm and character. The opera house is stunning and we managed to get tickets to the art pavilion to watch Seann Walsh. We can't wait to return

Our deluxe room was excellent. The service was very good and the staff welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast was substantial. The hotel is close to all of Buxton town's amenities and some very good restaurants.

The Lee Wood Hotel was good for us. We ate in as well as going to the town. Everyone we came across during our visit were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It enhanced our stay for the weekend. We visited the dome, the Crescent and the caves all of which we enjoyed immensely. All I can say that it is on our list to revisit at the earliest opportunity.

Excellent Staff and Service throughout the hotel. We eat in the restaurant one evening and the menu was limited but varied and the food was great. Breakfast was freshly cooked to your precise requirements or self service continental if preferred. The hotel is well located with a short walk to the town centre or cheap cab fare if you can't manage the hill. The only thing that would stop me giving this hotel a five start rating is that the rooms are a little dated. They are clean and serviced everyday but could do with a refresh. I appreciate The Lee Wood is an old building and this does of course limit the scope for modernisation in the rooms but a more creative and contemporary approach could really make a difference in my opinion. Overall a very enjoyable stay and I would happily go back there again or recommend to other travellers.

Not a cheap stay, but the room was good and staff were lovely. Evening bar food was hugely overpriced, poor quality and very small quantities. Oddly, breakfast was great. I stayed on a Saturday night and was told 'there might be some noise from a ball'. It was bonkers. I couldn't hear my own room TV over the music!

This hotel has a great location some 10 minutes from the centre of Buxton with parking on site. Our room, which had been recently decorated together with a refurbished bathroom was spacious. The bathroom was very nicely done but spoilt with having black mastic around the shower tray. The furniture was dark and somewhat 'old fashioned'. The term 'old fashioned' would also apply to the hotel itself was little dark and somewhat cold. We appreciate the cold aspect is difficult having such large open areas. We enjoyed our evening meal in the large conservatory. Breakfast which was cooked to order was equaly as good. Lastly a mention for the staff who without exception were professional, friendly and helpful. We would recommend this hotel.

Pleasant hotel. Nicely situated close to town centre A traditional decor. Bed large but not super comfortable. Restaurant was a revelation. Excellent steak and Thai green curry. 5 stars for restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Overall an enjoyable stay and a nice experience.

Overall we were very pleased with this hotel. Staff are friendly & welcoming. Our room was comfortable with everything you need including iron & ironing board, breakfast was excellent with a good buffet style continental choice and hot food cooked to order which was delicious. We only ate in the restaurant on 1 night and the food was really good, what let it down is that we were the only 2 in the restaurant so obviously it lacked atmosphere. There are several great restaurants in walking distance. We would stay here again.

We had our wedding breakfast and evening reception at the Lee Wood Hotel on Saturday. The Lee Wood did an incredible job of ensuring this all ran smoothly for us and they couldn't have done enough for us! We originally booked our Wedding for 2021 but due to COVID restrictions had to rearrange this. Becky who is the wedding planner couldn't have been more accommodating and understanding and therefore moved our date to this year. Throughout organising the wedding Becky has been amazing and has communicated regularly with us. All of the staff have been brilliant! We had Leek and Potato soup for our starters and Roast Beef for our main courses which tasted amazing! For our evening reception we had fish and chips which again was amazing. The staff throughout were really accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and each and everyone of them were so friendly which our guests also said too. I would definitely recommend the Lee Wood Hotel for a wedding! The grounds are stunning and make beautiful photos. We will definitely be returning for a weekend away!

Reception staff, friendly, informative and attentive. Room was fine as expected as we've stayed here previously plus it was nice and warm. Excellent breakfast, although the breakfast room requires more heating. Thankyou for another lovely stay.

Lovely service helpful and kind staff nothing too much to help in any way. Car park on site and with in walking distance of town. Local restaurants plenty to choose from hotel food very reasonable and good not a huge choice though. I would say anyone who wants to relax and not need to drive out at night great place to be.

Very comfotable 3 night stay, just a shame about the weather! Room cosy and warm with all that was required. Stayed in the annexe across a courtyard from main hotel. Good welcome when we first got there. Ate the first night food good as was service. Ate last night, valentines night and service from a different team a bit hit and miss, either training or the chap in charge was having a bad day. Would recommend as only a short walk into buxton and gardens. Would say i would stay again but no longer accepting dogs.

I do not overfuss and don't go hunting for problems, so I am unlikely to be asked to go on 4 in a bed (the UK television show where guest house owners critique other businesses). I was really satisfied with my stay, the food was fine, the staff excellent and I would not hesitate to stay again.

Booked this hotel for a famiy get together as was in the perfect location and dog friendly. The hotel was lovely staff very welcoming & accommodatiing, food was excellent. Unfortunately the hotel is no longer accepting dogs so have had to find elsewhere for our family's get togethers. Hotels loss as they have lost a group booking for 6 rooms dinner and breakfast.

My first visit to the Lee Wood Hotel with a group. We were not disappointed. There was a warm welcome, lovely, approachable and friendly staff. I had a beautiful room that was clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, and always well presented. Counting down the days to our return next year.

This was my first time staying at the Lee Wood Hotel and I must say how much I enjoyed my visit. The hotel is spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Good parking and a 10 minute walk into the town of Buxton. Lovely staff who could not have done more for us if they tried. Special shout out to Georgia and Antonio who made us feel like we were at home. My bedroom was spotless every day, with clean towels and refreshments. The bed was super comfy and duvet, pillows and linen all of a good quality. I met the room attendant one morning and thanked her. She was a lovely lady and you could tell she was proud of her work and rightly so. Breakfast was excellent. Good quality ingredients, locally sourced. Same to be said of the evening meal. Fish options are to be recommended. I really cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I booked again for next year. If you want to stay in Buxton in a friendly, cosy place with excellent service and delicious food you won't go wrong booking into this little gem. 10/10 in my opinion

5 night stay with a group of ladies on a patchwork and quilting retreat. The staff were welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent. My room was comfortable and clean. Booked for next year.

We were quite underwhelmed by our stay. Having booked an Annex Superior Room we were offered a cheaper simple double room in the main building as an alternative. The so called "slightly smaller window" but "still with a view", turned out to be an un-openable small dormer with curtains that could barely be drawn back. Being tired and having arrived in the dark this wasn't obvious when we accepted the alternative room. We did not get the expected refund on the room price, despite the small size and no bathrobes no slippers etc. The food was pre-ordered which cost more than the al a carte menu price, and it was pretty poor and mostly tasteless - wish we had decided to walk into town for a proper meal. Buxton probably has better places to stay than here. Look around...

Recommended hotel. Fairly centrally situated (5 mins. walk to the Opera House) with friendly, helpful staff. Lovely old building. Upgraded to a superior room which was huge. Good value as well. Would stay again.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay, Very comfortable hotel.The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the town centre. On the first night we had dinner in the hotel, really nice, pipping hot. Drinks in the bar are reasonable priced, The bar was very quiet on a evening. Breakfast was well organised, there was a buffet for, cereal, toast,fruit, you had to order cooked breakfast but was pipping hot and one of the best cooked breakfast we have had. All the staff were very friendly and helpful . Thank you for making our stay a plesent one.

What a beautiful old building, in a stunning location. Had a fabulous stay, staff very pleasant, helpful and always cheerful. We stayed and the Lee Wood for three days in order to visit family over the holiday period. We had one of the larger rooms at the front of the hotel, which had lovely views across to the hills. The room was clean, tidy and warm with a very large, comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order and there was a good range of cereals, fresh fruits and juices. Coffee and tea were always served promptly. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They adhered to all the Covid regulations and we felt vey welcome and safe throughout our time there. The stay was made even more special due to a sprinkling of snow - very festive! Are only request is that you add to the collection of single malt whiskies in the bar! Many thanks to all the staff for your hard work, especially during these challenging times.

We booked a discounted rate with the hotel for room and breakfast for 2 nights and as there were few guests we were upgraded to a very spacious room. Everything was great - pleasant staff and pleasant surroundings with a good breakfast served across a long period.

Ive lost count of the number of times ive stayed here now over the last few years, the hotel is good, staff friendly very helpful and pleasant. Ive rarely been dissapointed, a few minor niggles over the years but nothing that would stop me from returning.

Overall the room was light and with high ceilings which gave a felling of well being and comfort All of the staff went that extra bit to ensure you enjoyed your stay with them Food was excellent, good quality and well presented and of a high standard All Covid requirements were in place

The location was excellent as we were visiting for a concert at the Opera House. Christina on the desk went to extra lengths to find parking spots in the town centre near to the concert venue should we need them. We enjoyed the comfortable room, lovely and warm, with a spotlessly clean bathroom. Oure evening meal was of a high standard and left us plenty of time to get to the concert. The staff were friendly and polite without being pushy and made us feel welcomed.

We booked into the Lee Wood at the last minute, not always easy when you are travelling with two dogs! We received a very warm welcome and were allocated a large, comfortable room with a great view in the annex next to the main hotel building. An enormous bed and a quite room meant we had fantastic nights sleep, and only just made it down to enjoy the freshly cooked breakfast in the morning! We were very impressed with the hotel which has ample car parking and easy access to the town a mere 7 or 8 minute walk....just the thing to help burn off that lovely breakfast!

The room was fine but no outlook (inner room). Parking was OK but first come first served at the front and when busy I guess you might have to be on the street with a steep walk back to the entrance. We visited at an off-season time so some of the hotel was not being used. The parts that were, were fine - warm and welcoming though the reduced number of staff meant that sometimes one had to seek them out for bar service for example (Not a big problem as they always appeared when called).

Stayed for 2 nights for a break between Xmas and new year. We used the hotel as a base so didn't have the opportunity to experience the full facilities and Gym, treated ourselves to a suite which topped off a great weekend. Lovely breakfast though, all In all a lovely hotel and very welcoming staff, will definitely stay again and recommend to others.

The hotel is situated on the hill off the Manchester Road. There seemed to be sufficient parking at all times. Our room was basically very clean. When you opened the windows to allow an exchange of air, the window frames were very dirty where normally you wouldn't see them. There were one or two cobwebs on the ceiling and the toilet was a little grubby. The bed was very comfy for me; although a little soft if you are a hard bed lover. The heating and the hot towel rail were good. The room looked as though it had been recently repainted and one wall papered. The bathroom needed a curtain of some kind, there was a rail available. I could see through to the room opposite and I'm sure they could see me. The breakfasts were good; although if you arrived 15-20 minutes before cutoff at 9.30am the fruit salad and berries selection had run out and were not automatically replenished. I chose salmon and scrambled egg one day, the salmon was lovely and plentiful. It appeared the egg was reconstituted, as it had the look of cauliflower and was cold when I tasted it. As a result I didn't try any more of the hot options. The best part of breakfast was the toast - lovely thick bread you toasted yourself. On the first day we had to complain as there was no hand gel in the restaurant where visitors were selecting food from a common buffet bar. In addition none of the staff were wearing face masks in the public areas where the law now stated this was mandatory. These items were fixed after we mentioned them, but the staff at reception were unaware of the requirements. Surely Management should have Covid safety under control and it shouldn't be up to a customer to point out the law! Even this morning one staff member crossed the hallway without a mask on. Some of the staff were really lovely but one or two others left a lot to be desired in terms of customer service. Last evening we waited at reception for someone to attend us - we only wanted a little milk - but no one was there. I constantly rang the phone to attract attention, but the phone just rang and no one attended to it. Eventually we went to the dining room to find a member of staff. At least one member of staff seemed more intent on chatting to a relation or friend who was a guest. All in all it could have been a much better experience.

The Lee Wood Hotel is a large Mansion-style Hotel located in the North of the centre of Buxton but still near to the Opera House. Originally built as a small estate of three houses by the Duke of Devonshire in 1830, it has been a Hotel since the 1860s and is now privately owned and run by the same family since the 1950s. The main entrance is at the South (downhill) side of the building. Onsite parking is available, accessed from Park Road, or from Manchester Road at the rear of the Hotel. It is traditionally decorated (think patterned carpets and dark wood) and has comfortable bedrooms with modernised bathrooms. There are several large function areas, but there was no disturbance in the bedrooms from events there. Restaurant, Bar and service generally were very good. Well recommended for a comfortable stay in the centre of Buxton ..! Do note that it is significantly uphill from the town centre ...

From check in to check out we loved this hotel and their great staff. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable and everything worked. Wifi was great too. Bed was very comfortable and shower was great. Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold choices. We ate dinner in the restaurant the first night and Antonio took great care of us. We asked for his recommendation for a restaurant outside the hotel for the following night and he gave us a great recommendation. However it snowed the following day and we were a little nervous to venture into town in the dark so opted to eat in the hotel again and were not disappointed. Checkout was equally great and our bills were spot on. The staff in this hotel were just excellent. This is the nicest BW I have stayed in in the U.K. Lastly, we got a great deal price wise too so overall an excellent experience.

We stayed for one night to go to an event at the “Opera House”! Having stayed on a previous occasion decided to book here again. We had a lovely room and all the Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

My wife and I stayed for one night whilst making a short visit to Buxton. Previous reviews about the friendliness of the staff persuaded us to book this hotel and we were not disappointed. All of the staff we met during our stay could not be faulted even when we appeared for breakfast 20 minutes after breakfast time had closed due to me getting the time wrong!! But the staff re opened the kitchen, the chef stayed on and we received a lovely cooked breakfast. The room we were given looked out over the front of the hotel towards the cricket field and was very spacious with a two seater couch and an armchair. My wife appreciated having a bath within the en-suite. The room was quiet during our stay although the hotel does have some party nights I understand. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent and the service very good. The location of the hotel is also very good with a 10 minute walk to the centre of Buxton. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for two nights and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. When we arrived the colleague who booked us in was also staffing the bar and waiting tables. The restaurant was very good and did an excellent dinner as well as a rather good eggs Benedict for breakfast. The room was well equipped and comfortable, the bathroom clean and everything was in a good state of repair.

Stayed overnight as seeing a show at the pavilion This hotel has very good staf and is warm and welcoming Rooms are clean and well equipped Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice and this included veggie sausages (not on the menu) When we left this morning there had been a substantial snow fall - thank you to the member of staff that dug our car out and cleaned the driveway and went out of their way to help us we were very grateful We would definitely stay here again and fully recommend it Thanks again!

A one night stay at the Lee Wood Hotel to see a show at the Buxton Opera House was excellent value at a very comfortable and clean hotel. The location, size of room and parking was all good but the standard of service was outstanding. Everyone went out of their way to be friendly and supportive especially Georgia who welcomed us at reception and responded quickly and positively to any request. We will definitely return in the future for a short break in a lovely place.

Lovely hotel very cenral, short walk into the town. The decor is old fashioned and tired but the place was really clean and the staff are just lovely. The Spanish waiter/ barman/ receptionist was just so lovely looking after our group of 9 friends on a reunion. Can't fault him at all and really wish we had got his name to mention here so the managers know what a gem they have. Breakfast was lovely too, would stay again for sure.

We have just returned from a fabulous 3 nights stay……from the moment we arrived the staff made us feel very welcome and couldn't do enough for us. Food was excellent, we had Sunday lunch & the beef melted in your mouth, same with the fish dinner we had one night. Breakfasts are cooked to order & arrive pipping hot. The hotel is also convenient to the town centre and also close to some lovely county walks. We will hopefully be returning soon to this little gem.

This was my first opportunity to return since you know what came along and this is still one of my favourite places to stay. The location suits me very well being just a short walk away from the Opera House. The rooms are comfortable, the food is good but the one thing that makes the hotel for me is the lovely staff. Professional, busy, friendly but most of all kind.

We visit Buxton regularly and have stayed in a number of hotels. This was our first visit to the Best Western Lee Wood. We rate it as good. Helpful staff, lovely bedroom, great location for the town centre, and very clean. Compared with the other hotels we have used (from the dreadful Palace to the minimalist Premier Inn) the Lee Wood comes out tops. Recommended without hesitation.

From the moment we arrived at this hotel we were made very welcome by all staff we encountered. We stayed in a lovely, spacious room with the biggest bathroom I have ever had the pleasure to use at a UK hotel. Breakfast was well-presented and there was plenty on offer despite us arriving in the last half hour of service. We dined in the restaurant both nights and were again very impressed by the food and wine on offer. We will definitely be returning.

It was good value for money as I had 3 nights for the price of 2 offer. It was a standard of service and accommodation one would expect for a 4 star hotel. I think that the hotel was working well despite being constrained by present circumstances. The lounge wasn't particularly comfortable, the seating lacked comfort. Probably the lack of cushions etc was due to Covid restrictions. Unfortunately there's no toilet on the ground floor. There's a lift to the lower floor to use toilet.

Booked the Best Western on short notice and very glad we did. It has old world charm yet everything is high quality. Really nice classic room with really comfortable bed and really well provided for. Great breakfast. After a week in other inns and hotels this was a lovely change. End to end quality.

We have stayed at LeeWood Hotel twice before and really like the atmosphere, friendly and polite staff, good restaurant, comfy beds and pillows in a lovely warm room. This visit was all that we wanted it to be and we'll be back again for sure!

We had a lovely stay , very nice pleasant staff and helpful , any issues were sorted out if it was possible , very good breakfast , food over all very good and well presented but on the dishes we choose ingredients were missing from the dish or the plate as stated on the menu . I would recommend you give this hotel ago , if your looking for somewhere to stay in this area .

Visited for a two day September break hoping to relax and enjoy a slow and leisurely experience in and around Buxton with good food and wine. For once we seem to have found just what we were looking for as the Buxton Lee Wood Hotel delivered on all fronts. We parked, checked in and were in our Annexe room in no time and were soon out and about to check out the sites. Our room was large, quiet and well appointed as indeed was the Hotel, with a special mention for the large Conservatory dining area which was a delight to be in. All the staff were attentive, friendly and service was available when you needed it. My wife used the Gym and was impressed by the modern equipment whilst we both enjoyed an evening at the bar after dinner. Eating in the restaurant was a good decision as the Conservatory is an excellent dining space, the food was good and cost no more than any of the main restaurants in town (we checked them out). Nb the walk up the hill is a challenge after walking around town. I would guess that the Buxton Lee has a loyal following of regular customers as it gave me that sort of feeling and we too will be joining its regular clientele given our enjoyable experience

We booked a non refundable, non cancellable rate. Our confirmation included some small print which said that the Hotel holds wedding functions on Saturday nights. We didn't actually see this (when you get a confirmation you tend to check only the date) until we arrived to check in and saw a notice on Reception warning that there was a function on the Saturday night of our stay. We hoped, however that those not attending the function would surely be booked into quieter rooms. Sadly this was not the case. On the Saturday night very loud music was blaring out of the adjacent Conservatory room (we were in the annexe) until late at night. There was a loud DJ and noisy guests. Our sleep was completely disrupted. I did mention this at checkout but the girl said that she was new. I later emailed to suggest that they at least warn of this prior to one completing the booking process. Sadly I have not even had the courtesy of an acknowledgment. The staff were lovely, we had a nice room, but we certainly would not stay again and I would not recommend this Hotel for anyone who likes to be tucked up in bed and asleep before midnight.

Had to re- book due to an operation and Matthew very helpful. Helen on reception couldn't have been nicer - stayed with our little dog and the annexe room was clean and comfortable - lovely food at breakfast and evening meal - thank you all - we'll be back

Excellent hotel located in a great and handy place for lovely Buxton town centre. Very friendly staff, very clean and comfortable bedroom. If eating in the restaurant, you must try the triple cooked chips to go with the beer battered cod. Simply to die for! We will be back soon.

Brilliant hotel where staff cannot do enough for you - advising on walks, helping find ordnance survey maps, catering for a gluten free diner. We really enjoyed our staff. The hotel is extremely clean and following covid procedures.

My wife and I were part of a 17 car classic car tour visiting the hotel from 12-16th September - delayed from 2020 for obvious reasons! We felt Covid safe at all times. All the staff were lovely. The room was clean and the hotel was able to put my wife and I in a room with walk-in shower near the lift. This was important to us because she was recovering from a total knee replacement operation and is not yet as mobile as she would wish. We booked for dinner bed and breakfast and the food was excellent. The best bit was my wife has to ice her knee twice a day. The receptionists as a team were very helpful in ensuring the gel ice pack went into the freezer morning and night so she could continue her physio through the holiday. I want to say a huge thank you to the team for making that happen. Gordon

I originally booked this hotel in October 2019 for a classic car club tour to take place in May 2020. Covid intervened! The date had to be rescheduled - several times! The hotel was more than extremely helpful in enabling us to rearrange each time. We finally arrived with 16 Triumph TR sportscars and 32 people on 12th September. Everything was ready and waiting for us and well organised. Reception helped hand out the Welcome Packs to the participants. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the food excellent. But what really made it special was the attitude of the staff irrespective of whether they were front of house, restaurant or housekeeping; all very helpful and very friendly. If I have to single out individuals then extra praise must go to Nicola and to Antonio. This has to be the "go to" hotel in Buxton.

We stayed at the Lee Wood Hotel for four days (12-16 Sept 2021) as part of a Car Club group booking. Firstly, when we turned up en masse (I think 17 cars and 33 people with all our different questions) the lone receptionist was outstandingly calm and organised and made the check-in process very smooth indeed. My husband and I were allocated a lovely, spotlessly clean, room (28) but even although the bed was king-size, we didn't have a good night's sleep due to the bed being smaller than we're used to. The following morning a different receptionist asked how we slept and I gave her an honest answer ... the next thing we knew (without us asking) she was hunting for an vacant room with a super-king bed for us, and later on when we came back from an outing all our bits and pieces had been moved to the new room (32) and we slept like logs for the next three nights. Re our dining experience ... it was great. Dinner menus were put under our bedroom doors each day so we could make our food choices in advance, which meant there was no delay in serving our whole group at the same time. The waiting team worked like clockwork with a smile for everyone even although they must have been frustrated at times because often we couldn't hear what they were saying due to lots of background talking (the restaurant was full over and above our group) and the fact that the staff were wearing their Covid masks. Neither my husband or I could find fault with any of the food we chose, It was perfectly cooked, delicious, well presented and the portions were just the right size. In the morning we had a self-service continental breakfast plus waiter service for our hot drinks and whatever combination of cooked breakfast we fancied. Again, as the evening before, service was very unobtrusive, prompt and the food was first rate. Lastly, there was only one thing that we really didn't like at all, and that was having to check out ... we could have quite happily stayed a lot longer, and won't hesitate in recommending the Lee Wood Hotel to anyone who fancies a few nights in Buxton.

Simply cannot find any faults with this hotel. Only superlatives. Starting with the staff who are excellent. Dedicated and friendly and several of whom have worked in the hotel for many years and say they love working there which says everything you need to know about the hotel. The room we stayed in was spacious, very clean and very comfortable. The food was excellent. Every night they catered for about 40 in our group plus their other guests. Food was served promptly. It was always hot and very, very good. Covid awareness was good. All staff wore face coverings. We would certainly recommend this hotel and definitely we would stay there again. And again!! All the staff in the restaurant where superb. What an asset to the business they must be. Special mention to Eleanor for being such a good sport. Really enjoyed her serving us. Behind the scenes in the kitchen, the staff must have been working tirelessly to ensure that the food we were served was of such a high standard. They also deserve a special m emotion. A very, very good hotel.

Had an excellent stay. Very warm welcome, found all staff to be very helpful. Close to amenities in Buxton. Dinner on Saturday was extremely good and very good for money. Breakfasts were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for staff. Room was lovely and spacious. Ed's were really comfortable. Will certainly book another visit.

We stayed here last weekend in the annex part of the building. It was supposed to be a quieter setting. My partner was doing an ultramarathon the following day and I was just 12 weeks pregnant at the time. So we thought we would have a good night sleep before the following day. Unfortunately the people in the room above us had different ideas and were up until after midnight playing music, talking really loudly and pacing up and down. They were creating so much noise again at around 5am in the morning, banging and sounding as though someone was being sick and then running the bath over and over. At one point it sounded as though someone was going to come through the ceiling. I tried to call the reception desk at this time and nobody answered the phone. We were really upset and disappointed to have such a disrupted night sleep, especially when we had such an occasion to prepare for the following day. As well as paying £147 for a night to stay here on the promise of such good reviews, we feel as though we were truly let down and it doesn't deserve for us to have parted with this money. Our parents stayed in the main building, where there was a prom taking place which we also hadn't been previously made aware of before our visit. They thankfully didn't have a disturbed night sleep and were happy for them to pay the price for their room. I spoke to the front desk in the morning and the woman was really apologetic but advised because we booked via booking.com we would need to speak to them if we wanted to get a refund as we hadn't booked direct with them. I found this a bit strange as all payments are handled by the hotel, but I decided to go away and speak to booking.com to see what they said about all of this. Since speaking to booking.com and them being in touch with the hotel manager, they advised the manager would only offer us an ‘upgrade' on a next stay - which is really disappointing as you can imagine and the expectation that we would ever want to stay here again after such an experience! The reviews really didn't reflect our experience and what I'd say is please be aware when you book to ask about guests above and/or any functions they might have on as this might draw a certain guest to be staying at the property. We really don't like to complain but it really doesn't feel as though we should have paid for such a terrible experience.

When we arrived we were given a very warm welcome from reception. The hotel is in a stunning building in a great setting within lovely gardens. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. Short walk into town for local amenities. Will definitely come back!

We booked 3 deluxe rooms in order to celebrate our golden wedding with friends. 2 rooms were fine, ours was small, pokey and very ordinary. When queried, I was told it was a deluxe room because it had a view. A View? A bit of garden, a road and a bowling green. I didn't want a view, I wanted a nice room. The response I got was unhelpful and unsympathetic. Why, when I booked was I assured that the rooms were as promised? So disappointing and frankly, upsetting on what was meant to be a lovely occasion.

The very helpful receptionist told us on arrival that they had some new staff and please be patient with them. No need they were all without exception excellent. The room was a good size and all the facilities worked very well. All staff were helpful and pleasant. The food was exceptionally good. Please note I am not a shareholder and I have not been given any incentive to write this review. My only criticism was the location of the electric charging points they were in a very silly place and if I had used the 7kw charger I would have blocked in 5/6 cars. I did mention this and was told that they were going to instal new ones in a better location. The good point is that at least they had them they were free and they worked which is much better than a lot of hotels

Convenient location. Good and clean rooms, I had booked the deluxe room which was fantastic. Friendly staff. Excellent delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant, compliments to the chef. Would definitely be booking again in the future.

So clean and top service. Restaurant is excellent with limited but superb fresh food. Extremely attentive without being to on top. Reception team and Management were fantastic. Cannot fault the room or facilities.

We enjoyed our stay but I wish we'd upgraded our room. The standard double was a bit dark with an uninspiring view. Although it had a pair of comfortable chairs and a desk (always a bonus) it was a bit crowded. On the plus side the bed was comfortable. The hotel itself was very pleasant; the garden was pretty, it overlooked a bowling green and cricket ground, had a very nice conservatory/dining room, a bar, restaurant, lounge and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good and made to order. In addition there was a buffet of cereal, fruit and toast. Location was great. It was easy to walk to anywhere in town and it was just round the corner from Vera Brittain's house! There were plenty of bars, restaurants and shops nearby. There was plenty of parking.

Decor is tired. Musty & damp aroma in reception/stairwell. Room was dark, glass in bathroom window was not frosted. TV screen had an unhygienic looking splatter on it, Cheap instant coffee in room Creaky floors in my room (and others)

Traditional stone building with nice aspect, easy to find and plenty of parking. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great room which was spotlessly clean. Good location for walking into town. Nice outdoor space with gardens overlooking the cricket ground. Nice bar area

We spent two nights here at the end of a staycation tour of the North East of England for my wifes birthday and this was definitely the highlight of our tour. Their is a lovely relaxed atmosphere with very helpful and friendly staff, our room was spacious and very comfortable, and our breakfasts and dinners were excellent (hot and tasty). Great location to explore Buxton and the Peak District, hope we can return again soon.

Great staff, friendly, 24/7 bar, decent breakfast. Clean. Floorboard ls and bed a bit creaky! Nice location, central easy walking into Buxton and nearby pavilion park. Somewhat old fashioned decor. plenty of parking . Overall a decent place to stay.

Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst attending the Gilbert & Sullivan festival at nearby Buxton Opera House. The hotel is situated on a hill, and it's only a short walk downhill into town. There is free parking yay, and decent wifi. The hotel is a solid looking Victorian structure with gardens on the front looking over a cricket ground. There is a conservatory where afternoon tea and breakfast is served. My room was number 45 in the annexe building. Situated up a narrow flight of steps, the room was of a good size, there was a table and a couple of chairs to relax in, plenty of storage and a safe in the wardrobe. There was a nespresso machine, but no coffee capsules, I kept forgetting to ask for some! The bed was 2 joined together, and I slept well. No air conditioning but the window did open, which was nice. Good size bathroom too, lots of sunlight in the morning so it was nice and light. The staff that were encountered were all very pleasant. So why not 5 star? breakfast was a slight disappointment. The sausage not of real top quality, and the full English portion size was not big. The salmon with scrambled egg and muffin however was a generous portion. All other breakfast items were served off a trolley, which did take time to get around the large breakfast area. For the price charged I do think we should have better fayre. On the whole though a good hotel and a stay that was enjoyed.

Excellent dog friendly hotel, although the dog charge was rather dear considering our dogs left no evidence of being in the room at all. Staff were exceptional and helpful in assisting with storing our diabetic dogs insulin, although a simple fridge in the room would be much easier.

The hotel is well situated for a gentle walk into town. Our room was comfortable, cosy and not too small. It looked clean and tidy. The hotel staff were all friendly and courteous throughout our 4 night stay. Breakfast I found to be a bit basic , specifically the cooked items (sausage and bacon weren't great quality). The hotel is very sensibly giving small amounts of food (you will get 1 sausage butter. 1 pay of butter or sachet ofketchup , jam etc) however they will happily give you more - at first it felt weird but it's a great way to reduce wastage. The bar area was very quiet, this is a hotel visited mainly by older couples and tour groups so atmosphere is low , but as a base for great walks it's perfect.

This was a Christmas Gift and only got to go now August 2021. Never been before but will definitely come again and for more than one night next time. Staff very friendly, room great, and food perfect. Could not fault our stay one bit.

My wife and I stayed for one night. The hotel is in a lovely setting and lovely old building. The room was a decent size and very clean the staff were all very nice and friendly and specially Antonio he never stoped and went out of his way to make everything personal lovely man. The food was all very nice we had our evening meal and breakfast can not falt anything and check out is not until 11am perfect if on holiday and not rushed. It's also a nice walk into Buxton down hill going and up on the way back.

Our family overnight stay was for a wedding and thoroughly enjoyable. The friendliness of all the staff made us feel very welcome. This was our first hotel stay since the start of the Covid disruption. I can imagine how busy this place could be once normality resumes.

We are so pleased we stayed in this superb family owned hotel. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The food was excellent. They managed breakfasts and pre-show dinners speedily. The offer of having dessert after the show was much appreciated and indicative of the customer friendliness of the whole hotel. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Many thanks to all.

Everything in place for a hassle free hotel stay staff really conscious of the hygiene requirements restaurant and housekeeping there was a staff shortage but unless we had been told when speaking to the staff,we would never have known

We spent four nights here with a group tour of the area and we were very impressed with the hotel. This is a family-run hotel with pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Our room was a De Luxe room, extremely spacious with a large and comfortable sitting area and an excellent bathroom, in which there was plenty of space to put toiletries. In fact there was more storage and desk space than we have encountered in most other hotel rooms, and plenty of sockets too. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and there were hand sanitising stations all around the premises. Meals are taken in a giant conservatory, which is a very agreeable place to eat, with well spaced out tables. We enjoyed all the meals, but as we don't eat cooked breakfasts we can't comment on them. The hotel is about a 7 minute walk into Buxton but not on level ground, something to beware of for the less mobile. There is clearly much to see in Buxton and we hope to return, and it will be to the Lee Wood Hotel.

This hotel is in a good location in Buxton over looking the local cricket ground,The first room we had was very good, the evening meals were OK but the breakfasts could and should have been much better,there seemed to be no one in over all charge to ensure things in the dining room ran efficiently,dinner service was very slow.

The Lee Wood Hotel is sited overlooking the centre of Buxton a 10-minute walk from the attractions of the town. Our room was on the first floor with a good view towards the centre and the rolling hills beyond. Very comfortable room and welcoming staff. The breakfast choice was superb and the dinner we had was much appreciated by all our guests..

Just had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at this hotel. Staff and food are excellent, my husband and myself really enjoyed the dinners we had as well as the breakfasts which were extensive and the best fried breakfast I have had in many years. The chef here is top notch. We had a De Luxe Suite, very pleasant and the bed extremely comfortable, I had the best sleeps I'd had in a long time. Only comment that needs addressing is one I reported to the manager Nicola, and hopefully that will be addressed. The window frames in our room were rotting and dirty, so need repairing and painting plus the windows inside and out needed cleaning. Praise to John in reception, who worked long and hard, he was first rate. Can recommend this hotel.

The hotel is very good indeed, comfortable room, excellent food and friendly, efficient staff. They say they are ten minutes walk from the centre of Buxton but they do not mention that they are on the top of a hill, which is fine if you are young and healthy but if, like me, you are pushing 90 with a heart condition, walking up a longish, fairly steep hill is not recommended.

We booked a week at the Leewood whilst having a hiatus of a week between moving houses. We had not visited it for a number of years & needed accommodation for our 2 dogs also. Our superior room in the annex was spacious, well furnished & had clearly been refurbished in the recent past to a good standard. Food was excellent & staff helpful & conscientious. Would definitely recommend.

Yes, if you want a stay in Buxton that is top quality and is sensibly priced then we can't recommend the Lee Wood highly enough. Family run hotel that is situated within easy walking distance to the town, swim pool, Opera House, Pavilion Gardens, dog walls, Corbar Woods and Cross. So no need to get the car out until you want to visit dozens of High Peak attractions. Then return to a fabulous bar, terrace, gym and lounges. In spite of Covid the restaurant was serving up great value breakfast and dinner menus, cooked to perfection. Our room was top notch in cleanliness, decor and function. Perfect. We, and our dog, will be back again very soon.

The hotel is well located for all the attractions of the Peak District. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Beauty therapist on site (Debbie) was great and reasonably priced. The hotel has two car chargers, although one is very slow. The food at dinner was very good. Afternoon tea was good for the price. The hotel itself is old and sound carries so it was quite noisy. Paid for an upgrade but the superior room was still very small and next to the elevator so you heard people outside the room, sometimes until quite late.

Booked late for the bank holiday weekend so paid a premium. From photos had low expectations which were exceeded in every way. Nice hotel, great staff and the best shower I've ever experienced. Great!

The only downside to our stay was that due to lockdown we have become very unfit and walking up the hill from the town was a bit of an effort but that's our fault not the hotels food in hotel was great

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of a short break visiting family. The building is old and full of charm and 10 minutes walk to the main town centre area. Our room was clean and comfortable with reasonable facilities. Unfortunately we did find it a bit warm but opening the windows meant they rattled and you had some noise from the road! The hotel had good Covid measures in place with sanitisers and one way systems. The breakfast was excellent and was all served to you by a friendly waiter. You had the options of cold cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit and also from the hot menu cooked to order (bacon, sausages choice of eggs etc) but was a little restrictive for vegetarians. If we were in the area we would happily stay again.

Stayed here for a few days last September as a staycation. I can honestly say the staff were very friendly, all COVID safe. Short walk to the town. I was upgraded to a room in the main hotel which was very pleasant, tea/coffee making facilities and toiletries in the room. If I need more tea/coffee just needed to ask at reception. I ate in the restaurant a couple of times for both breakfast and evening meals. Couldn't fault the meals plenty of choices. Drinks via the bar could be ordered via an app which was easy to use. Overall good stay and would recommend

Stayed in Buxton 2 nights but only stayed here for 1 but wish I'd booked this one for both. On arrival the lady on the desk was really friendly and helpful, she even upgraded our room. The room was by far the biggest hotel room iv ever stayed in, there was a small lounge area with sofa and chair, big bedroom and a decent bathroom. We chilled in the bar/lounge area with a beer and wine enjoying the views out of the bay window. The walk in to Buxton is nice and not long at all. In the morning we had breakfast which consisted of fruit juice, tea, coffee and a full English. All covid safety measure were in place and the rooms had being deep cleaned before our arrival. I would stay here again and recommend it to others too.

From first point of contact with Jenny & the team the customer service was professional but in a warm friendly way. Our wedding was brought forward with 24 hours to arrange, so it was a hectic day but when we arrived at the hotel we instantly felt relaxed & looked after. The Solomon private dining room was lovely & the waiting staff were always on hand to assist with anything needed. Food & drink delicious, especially the steak pie! Rooms were clean & spacious. The photos dont do this traditional county hotel justice. We will definitely return. Thanks so much.

This is a nice hotel with extraordinarily friendly staff and excellent service. We used it as an exploration point for Buxton on a very wet weekend, but the bar was comfortable, the town accessible by taxi at low cost and the overall experience wonderful.

Visited Buxton for a short stay, our stay at the Lee wood hotel was great, Jenny made us feel very welcome and anything we needed was no problem, the room was fantastic, really clean, comfy big bed, bath and shower super clean, radiator nice and warm to dry our wet hiking clothes, and to finish it off we had a lovely cooked breakfast in the morning, great value for money and good base for the Peak District. Will be returning!

3 night stay in a room in the main hotel. Ideal location for Buxton and surrounding area, nice setting and comfy bed. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the rooms have character and bar/.restaurant areas are pleasant. Covid controls were in place without being too intrusive. Negatives - shower was fed from mains water and for no obvious reason would turn scalding hot for around 30 secs before returning to normal. This is dangerous and could result in serious burns. No excuse for not having a thermastatically protected shower these days!! Walls very thin and even normal conversations could be clearly heard in adjacent rooms and the corridor. Better sound-proofing is required

What a wonderful hotel in lovely grounds overlooking the cricket ground and there's plenty of free parking. Arrived early but no problem we sat in the bar and enjoyed a cool beer whilst we waited but as requested our check in time was perfect. Staff brilliant and very helpful and considering the covid restrictions the hotel is run remarkably well so no problems its safe. Booked an evening meal and again no problem food served until 8pm and there's a splendid menu to choose from. Had a wander into the town, its only a ten minute wander then after a full afternoon sampling the local bars and taking in the sights we set off back. The evening meal was very good and served by lovely staff following that a pleasant sit down in the bar area until bed time. Rooms as you would expect all pleasantly roomy with all the amenities you would expect and very comfortable beds. Breakfast next morning again first class, we've stopped in several hotels in Buxton over the past 6 years and we would most definitely return to this one, its wonderful.

This is an attractive hotel in a peaceful setting just a short walk (ten minutes for us) from the town centre. It is a little uphill coming back but you are in the Peak District. We got a taxi from Greek restaurant Ithaca in town back to the hotel for three quid - unheard of in our neck of the woods - so if you really don't fancy the walk back a cab won't break the bank. The room was front-facing and had a lot of character. It was extremely clean and very comfortable. The lady on the reception desk was warm and welcoming, we will definitely come back.

Stayed for one night on a walking weekend The hotel is ideally placed for hiking Our room was very spacious well appointed and extremely clean. Plenty of very hot water, for a long soak in the bath. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was delicious, in these days of covid it was nice to see a establishment not using covid as excuse to cut corners and downgrade services. All the staff are friendly and efficient and work very hard to make your stay perfect. We would definitely recommend this hotel Thank you all

Stayed here for 2 nights in September, all very Covid safe, room was large and with excellent modern facilities. Lounge bar pleasant, service good, breakfast also very good. Great old stone building and literally a 10 minute stroll into Buxton centre and all its attractions and restaurants.

This is a medium sized older building close to the centre of Buxton where we went for a short break. The hotel was very comfortable. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. In particular, the hotel took extremely good measures to be Covid free, For example after the room had been deep cleaned prior to our arrival nobody was allowed into it apart from the pair of us. Slight downside is you had to make your own bed, but it was an incentive to keep the room tidy. The hoterl was running at a reduced capacity to allow for social distancing, which was taken very seriously especially in the dining room. All in all, an excellent stay and I would gladly return there. Given the difficulties in operating in the current Covid situation, the hotel was run very well and the staff took care to make sure that the guests were safe.

This period property is nicely set on rising ground, a comfortable walk from the Opera House and Gardens. We spent 3 nights in a Superior room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the bowling green. Covid-19 precautions were well in evidence and no staff came into our room for the duration, which is fine by us. Would definitely stay again and recommend

Stayed for 3 lovely days and nights over August Bank Holiday. All areas of the Hotel Covid Secure, felt extremely safe at all times plenty of Sanitiser to hand. Excellent staff in all areas made the stay as close to normal as can be expected in these unprecedented times. Enjoyed the Breakfast plenty of choice, continental, cereal, cooked, very wide variety. Stayed at a front facing top floor room which was clean, very large and comfy with nice modern bathroom. Plenty of free parking on site and plenty of safe on road parking to front of hotel opposite Cricket ground. Great views of rolling countryside, nice and quiet great sleeps had by us both. Wouldn't hesitate to stay at Buxton Lee Wood Hotel again in the future. I would like to give a big thankyou to all the staff many thanks for making our stay most enjoyable. Mr and Mrs John Bavister

Stayed for 2 nights with some friends for a walking trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful and did there best to keep Covid compliant. Rooms were spacious , clean and well equipped. Overall terrific value, great location, great staff and look forward to going again

We have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel. We have to be extra careful at the moment due to medical conditions making us more at risk to Covid 19. After being forced to hide away at home for 6 months we really wanted to get back a little bit of normal. I contacted the hotel to enquire about their safety procedures and was instantly put at ease. All staff wore masks, details of their extra cleaning measures were clearly communicated and the restaurant staff wore PPE (masks and gloves) at all times. Hand gel was available all through the building. Our room was very clean with all unnecessary items removed. We were given our own supply of tea, coffee and toiletries when we checked in. We had a lovely time finally eating in a restaurant where we felt totally at ease. Thank you everyone for giving us a little bit of "normal". If anyone is anxious about visiting a hotel or restaurant in the current climate this is the ideal place to go. The conservatory restaurant is a lovely place to enjoy a meal and breakfast in the sun. Thank you we will be back soon.

Had an excellent stay at Lee Wood. The staff are all a credit to the hotel, all very friendly and so helpful when we came to them with a query. Went above and beyond to help and make us comfortable. Can't praise all of the staff members enough. Hotel was also very clean and had good COVID-19 measures in place so felt safe throughout. One improvement I would say would be the doors to rooms can slam so maybe could be weighted better or have soft close. Would definitely recommend regardless!

Stayed there for 3 nights ,hotel great , staff great ,room great,only downside was the restaurant prices very expensive for quality of food served restaurant very quiet perhaps that's why will stay again but eat elsewhere

We are on Day 4 of UK staycation and it has brought us to the above hotel. Now having only checked in 3 hours ago, I'm really impressed with what I have seen upto now. Now also bear in mind we had only booked this at about 15:00 so it was hit and miss we'd even get a room. On arrival the receptionist was very polite and checked us in, we were quite unlucky as we got the last room available - room 16 (family room). The receptionist explained that the room can get quite warm, so in anticipation they opened the windows and even put a fan on in the room for us. She also explained that due to Covid that they have removed certain items from the rooms to prevent them having to be thrown away if not used and then replaced, but she did say that anything we want that wasn't there all we had to do is ask and then handed us our room keycard and a small bag containing tea, coffee, sugar and milk and said if we wanted anymore to come to reception. We went to our room, and we were pleasantly surprised. Family Room - Beds very comfortable, clean, decoration seemed well maintained, bathroom was very nice and seemed spotless - bath was very deep. Only one thing that I could fault with the bath is that there was no handles on the side to stabilise yourself when trying to get out - but this is minor compared to what you offer. I also noticed that the towel rail was quite hot too (and so it should be with it being a heated rail) but as the room was also quite warm we tried to switch this off but couldn't find a switch, so on the way to Dinner I went to reception to ask if they could send someone to look at this for us. We were in the restaurant for about 10mins when a member of staff came up to us and said he been to the room and switched off the towel rail for us. Me and my partner both looked at each other and I said ‘now that's what I call service', but what we also noticed is the same gentleman was also working in the restaurant as he also served us our evening meal and also in the bar. So the service so far we have received from the staff at this hotel has been nothing but excellent. The food we had this evening was very tasty and much better than the 3 previous hotels we have stopped at. Breakfast the next morning was table service and everything's was freshly cooked to order and was piping hot and tasty. All in all, very well run, lovely polite staff and the place feels like a traditional hotel. This hotel is a credit to the Best Western brand.

Just got back from a weekend in Buxton. Had a great weekend at the best western hotel. The staff were all great, service was good and the room we had was lovely. Breakfast was served in the conservatory and was very efficient.

We stayed for a couple of nights last weekend, our stay was excellent and felt it was suitable for all ages. Great breakfasts and good service throughout made this stay very enjoyable. Would recommend this Hotel

Booked and checked in online. Nice old building but rather than be a negative, the dated decor does add to the charm. Not sure who advised on all the fairy lights in the conservatory but, well let's just say it must be an acquired taste. Hotel itself is very covid alert and covid safe. Polite requests by way of signage, reminding guests to wear a mask, to which most adhered. Breakfast was plentiful and served in a friendly yet professional manner. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the location is perfect for Buxton or even other parts of the peak district. Excellent mini break.

Just got back from 2 night stay in this lovely hotel. Within walking distance to town. Very clean although feel hotel needs updating. Staff make this hotel!!!! Very friendly and always go extra mile to ensure an enjoyable stay!!!!! Give them a pay rise!!! Food excellent in very nice surrounds!! Will definitely be returning!!!!

The hotel is about 10 minutes walk into town. Rooms are little old fashioned and the wooden floorboards from the landing creak. Good internet signal. Excellent breakfast served in the conservatory. Free car park.

The hotel is well located and is only a short distance to walk into the town. The staff were all helpful and pleasant. The bar and restaurant area were lovely and there is a good adherence to social distancing and safety measures in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic, The table ordering service works well (log your phone onto the hotel site to order food and drinks once accessed via a Q-code). We enjoyed our cook breakfasts and the bar meal we had. The restaurant veranda was a pleasant was place for an evening drink. We booked two adjacent rooms (3 and 4) both at the same cost but one was much better than the other but neither were large, eg. not really enough space to walk down both sides of the double beds.. Room 3 only has one small window whilst at least Room 4 had 2 windows making that room feel more airy, bright and pleasant. I think if we booked again I would pay extra for a bigger rooms. Unfortunately the rooms we had were at the back of the hotel and close to the hotel bins. It was unfortunate to be woken at 0630 to the sounds of clattering glass as the bins were emptied this morning, These rooms also overlook a car parking area and again there is quite a bit of noise there also but there isn't much you can do about doors slamming and people shouting in the car park I suppose. All in all not bad but I think if we stayed again we would wish to avoid rooms 3 and 4. With better rooms I would have probably been happy to award an extra 'star'.

We stayed here on a 3-night deal with our 4 year old and would definitely recommend. We had a great time in Buxton and loved our stay, room was comfy, clean and felt very safe with covid safety in place. We only had breakfast at the hotel but it was delicious the breakfast staff.at the hotel were fantastic staff who served us each morning. Reception staff amazing and friendly and the chamber staff you sometimes saw always had a hello and wave for you. Lovely garden where you can sit outside and very good prices for drinks. Everyone wore masks in hotel and all customers we saw adhered to cobid safety. rules. Lovely well needed break and will return thank you lee wood and all the staff x

Booked 2 connected rooms for 3 nights on a brilliant 3 night for 2 deal. Hotel was very clean and had everything in place to support COVID-19 measures. Good size rooms, traditional in decor with comfy beds and good showers. Staff were friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. Food was fantastic too; we took advantage of the ‘eat out to help out' scheme which saved us loads of money. Good location to walk into town. Lovely gardens and terrace outside the restaurant for food and drinks. We'll be back!

We had two nights at The Lee Wood Hotel with friends. We were a party of seven and had four rooms. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in Buxton from the evening meal on Friday (where we ate outside) to the breakfast on Sunday morning. The staff were all lovely and very friendly. It was a great find for us.

breakfast was full english and cooked fresh to order. Ellie was very chatty, knowledgeable and friendly to talk to. all staff were accomodating and nothing was too much trouble. social distancing and cleanliness were excellent. made for a very pleasant and safe stay. many thanks

Staff were very helpful and professional. Hotel was to a very high standard. Food was great and not to pricey! The only problem we had was other guests who were talking outside our room at 04:00 but that is not the fault of the hotel of course. Our two night break felt like a holiday.

The hotel is in a really good location, bed is comfortable, check in was easy and we were able to check in early which was good. Parking was on site and free which was a bonus. However, there were also some negatives such as the bin in our room was full when we arrived, there is nowhere to put toiletries in the shower, the room was far too hot with no choice of a fan or a window to open which made it very uncomfortable sleeping and the breakfast was and extra £17 on top of the £89 for the room and the food quality was very low, the toast was burnt, the scrambled egg was inedible, the fried egg oily enough to slip off a knife and the sausages and hash browns tasted very cheap

We visited in July, not long after lockdown was eased and hotels able to reopen. The hotel looked after us well - thought had gone into slight changes to procedures due to Covid with plenty of hand sanitiser available and an app to order food and drink which was easy to use. Our room was spacious and had a comfy bed. The breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed our meal in the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us well. It was only a short walk into the town centre and we used this as a base to explore The Peak District. An enjoyable short break.

Perfect hotel. Great bar with lunchtime food. Great restaurant for evening meal. Great beauty salon for massage and facials etc. Large rooms with large bathrooms with bath. Tea and coffee facilities, flat screen tv large comfy bed and great views. Beautiful garden which can be used for bar or restaurant. Friendly staff and very reasonable prices.

Our recent trip to this hotel started well with a pleasant receptionist and the delight of the beauty of the building itself but was sadly marred later on by a unprofessional night porter/manager who locked me out twice and neither acknowledged my inconvenience nor offered an apology and a severely uncomfortable bed. On a more minor note the pint of Guinness I drank was terrible...and warm with a head an inch and a half thick!

A great weekend stay at a lovely hotel. The staff could not do enough. This was one of the most pleasant stays I have had in a hotel. The customer service was excellent. We had room 27 which appeared to have been recently renovated. The hotel dealt really well with the new restrictions in place and we did not feel any impact because of this and it didn't affect our stay. We took our bikes and the hotel was very accommodating in allowing us to store them safely in the hotel.

We stayed for three nights, had a great little suite, which was a very pleasant surprise at check in. The room was great, bed very comfortable and large. Situated in a quiet area, so we had no noise at night. Breakfast is good, with both continental and cooked included. Free parking on site, all in all a great hotel .

Have stayed in a number of Best Western hotels over the years and this fits their mold perfectly. It does look a bit tired in places and could do with some modernisation, but don't let appearances put you off. We used it for a 3 night mid-week stay. The hotel itself is situated mid-way up hill, about 5 minute's walk from Buxton town centre, well within reach of some excellent eateries. There is adequate onsite parking and we found it an excellent base for exploring the peak district on our short break. We were originally given the wrong room (standard double) on arrival, due to a mix-up with hearing surnames, mainly caused by the screening and PPE used by the staff, which I have to say was exceptional. We felt very safe the whole time. The mistake was quickly rectified and we were moved to our booked deluxe room, which bore no comparison to the standard. We had a huge bed, a separate lounge area and more than enough room to swing the proverbial cat. If you can afford it and you're staying longer than one night, I would recommend paying the extra for the better room. Because of Covid there are no room “extras” such as tea, coffee, milk, etc, which are all collected from reception and the room also lacked any “guides”, but this did not detract from our stay. There is also no room cleaning or bin emptying throughout the stay, but again this did not give us any problems. Breakfast, taken in the large conservatory was fine and using the new mobile online “QRF” ordering system was relatively smooth. However, the room itself lacked atmosphere and was very quiet. It was crying out for some low-level background music, just to block out the noise of other guests chewing! The staff were exceptional throughout. All in all we had a good stay and we would return.

The hotel is on the outskirts but close enough to easily walk to the town. Although the virus is making things difficult for everyone, inspite of this the hotel made our stay very enjoyable. The staff are very good and attentive to your every need. The food in the evening and breakfast was excellent.

I had one of the Standard rooms for a one night stay on a B&B basis. This is a period hotel with traditional design. The interior decoration reflects the "period" and is well maintained. My room was well proportioned and included a bathroom with a very welcome bathtub - though this could have been a tad broader. The breakfast selection was excellent. Free WiFi is provided, but I found it rather slow. TV programme selection too is limited. There is car parking, but again when I arrived there were very few available spaces. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

Fantastic from start to finish! We were met on our arrival by a warm welcoming lady on reception who was very efficient and helpful with advice on what places to visit during our stay. we had booked initially for standard room but were offered an upgrade for a small extra charge, Our room was large with a bathroom including bath and a lounge area, we loved it although one small suggestion a fridge would be a good addition. We ate in the conservatory during the first evening and really enjoyed our meal, service was fantastic throughout our whole stay,I cannot praise the staff at this hotel enough. lovely breakfast too with plenty of choice.

I stayed at the Lee Wood with work over a 6 x month period in 2019. This is the best hotel in Buxton (I've stayed in a few). Rooms are clean, staff are fantastic. Would definitely recommend. Fabulous for both business and pleasure.

Hotel in need on modernising. Mould in bathroom, no blind in the bathroom window so you couldn't have a shower without the room opposite seeing you. Good location but we wouldn't be visiting again. Very disappointed

My Wife and I exchange short stay breaks in lieu of birthday and Christmas presents. I booked two nights here via Expedia with the intention that we would use as a base to continue our exploration of Buxton and it's various attractions on foot including some of its restaurants and possibly the theatre etc. The weather apart from two spells in the mornings was not only bitterly cold but also wet and windy meaning that we spent more time in the hotel and ate there more frequently than planned. What time we able to spend out and about confirmed our pleasure in the town and interest in returning. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful throughout .The hotel was clean and all facilities worked although some parts would benefit from investment Double glazing and more efficient heating and extraction are possibilities and can be fitted even in listed buildings Our room was cold and draughty initially and despite the fan heaters the public areas suffered similarly In more clement weather the old building and its location are probably quite charming ,although my booking form promised a view and we looked out on neighbouring apartments.We would not complain that in an historically interesting building such as this we were awakened by the people above walking about That we expected The food at most meals was acceptable although the nut roast was bland ,the steak a little chewy and the sea bass somewhat dry -nothing was so bad as to merit complaint to the staff who tried so hard to please In using Google maps to find places in the town I inadvertently triggered a comparison of room rates in neighbouring hotels .That placed this hotel on a like for like basis considerably above it's competitors for price It may be that parking and other factors account for this. Our room had a separate sitting room so any comparison probably could not be made .Breakfast was not included.. The location was quiet and easy to access When the hotel is full ,parking in the constructed driveways may be a problem

Converted townhouse-style hotel but very nice. Evening dinner was outstanding and breakfast the following morning was similarly excellent. Room was a little chilly but it is February and in the middle of Storm Dennis. Great friendly staff.

Friendly and helpful staff and a nice sized room and modern bathroom. I didn't have dinner here, but had the breakfast, which was generously sized. The staff were great and there was ample parking. The hotel overlooks the park and is in walking distance of the centre of town, especially handy for Buxton Opera House.

Stayed for 1 night. The room, though a bit "tired looking", was more than adequate. The staff were all friendly and helpful and dinner was very good. The hotel is ideally placed to be able to easily explore Buxton without using a car. We would not hesitate to use this hotel again.

The room had radiators instead of central heating which was lovely as it can be cold in the peaks and the temperature could be changed. Equally a window that opened slightly for fresh air. The food was delightful. All members of the party enjoyed their meal. The sea bass. Thai curry, but roast and steak and ale pie. Breakfast was a great start to the day and perfect poached eggs. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely stay there again.

Super hotel, food is great, staff are awesome and the rooms are clean. No entertainment (thank god), also no coach trips, silly stag and hen. Basically, it's a good room, good price, good location. (The thai down the road is epic too).

This hotel is ok. The decor is 'of an age' with dark wood and dark carpets , cabinets with stuff in them in main area. Room's are basic and beige. We stayed in a super deluxe which boasted amongst the additional facilities smart tv ( didn't work and yes we reported it). Bed comfy, a small sofa and chair. Good cupboard space but despite coffee machine etc no fridge tho there was plenty of room to have one. Bathroom basic over bath shower. Some minor cleaning issues - carpet not properly hoovered as some bits left from previous guest. Room service food ok but over priced. Breakfast lovely and staff very pleasant. Carparking a lottery depending on how busy I guess. Situated up a steep hill. Nice enough but nothing special.

Staff pleasant, food (breakfast) great quality and plenty of choice. we had a deluxe room with a nice view of the garden. The room was warm, bathroom very clean. No issues whatsoever. The free barhrobes that we didn't need or use could be a bit softer.

Just arrived in a sunny and beautiful day at Buxton. Impressed with my room and with staff being helpful and friendly. Is my 3rd time in Buxton 3rd different hotel. Yet this one I will become a regular. Just an opinion advise, for your coffee I would source it locally.

The hotel is set in it's own grounds and had adequate parking but not sure if it was very busy. The place was very clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. The dinning room/conservatory was spacious and even in winter warm. The evening meal even though the menu was limited was some of the best food I have eaten and and was plentiful same as the breakfast.

We were a party of 8 friends who always see the New Year in together at a different location. The staff at the Lee Wood are excellent and really made us feel at home. The Gala Dinner was well organised with a good choice of food, well cooked. It was nice that we could choose the time that we ate & that pre-booking the food was not necessary. A special thanks to the DJ running the disco. He played music suitable for the age of the guests & the volume wasn't cranked up all night as often happens. Another good meal on NY day & it was good to able to choose from the full menu without any extra charge. Minor gripes --- the hotel had been closed over Christmas & was still rather cold when we arrived, particularly the bar & a real fire here would have been nice. All in all though, well done Lee Wood, we really enjoyed it.

Spent 4 nights between Christmas and New Year at the great Lee Wood Hotel Buxton. Staff are excellent, each and everyone. They cannot do enough to make your visit the best. We were a party of 10 and felt like royalty. We stayed half board, accommodation cosy, the food was first class and we sent our compliments to the chef every evening. What a great managed hotel. Thank you for a lovely break.

Wonderful cosy hotel with friendly staff. Only a 5-1o min walk from theatre / pavilion into town. Car parking at front and back though not much spaces if it's busy so would leave your car once parked up. definitely stay again.

Wonderful food and wine and great time had by all - stayed for 2 nights and everything that makes a great New Year break was on offer. Lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Any little problems were tended to immediately. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. Breakfast is served in a beautiful conservatory overlooking the gardens. There is a well-equipped gym and a cosy, candlelit bar. We would have liked more freeview TV channels to be available and environmentally friendly soaps and bathroom products.

The hotel is on hill a short walk from the centre of town. We had a good evening meal in the hotel. The hotel is in a quiet location. The room was a bit dated but pleasant. Parking in the hotel grounds can be difficult when busy.

Stayed here for one night Friday 20th Dec. We were in Buxton to visit the Opera House. On arrival the member of staff, Lisa, checked us in and apologised if we had not been warned there are Christmas parties going on that night. We were back fairly early from the theatre and although the party was in full swing downstairs, we couldn't hear a thing from our room! The hotel setting is a lovely old building but beautifully decorated and immaculately kept. The bar areas are luxuriously furnished, the leather chairs are so comfortable! The rooms are spacious (we had a double, but a sneak peak at one of the suites when it was being cleaned revealed an apartment-sized lodging). The location is perfect, 5 minute walk from the town centre, although the walk back up the hill certainly works the legs! Breakfast was a relaxed experience and the food was very tasty. The staff were all very helpful, polite and attentive. Special mention of one member of staff, Lisa who was so very helpful & sympathetic when we required some assistance later in the evening. She made a great stay become brilliant! Thanks Lisa.

We had our works party here on 19th Decembee, all credit to the chef the food was excellent. All the staff were very attentive and the service was also excellent. The entertainment/disco kept us dancing all night one of the best work do's ive attended.

Avoid. This is the most basic of basic Christmas lunches one is ever likely to eat. Over priced and lacking any refinement. This is supposedly one of Buxton's premiere hotels so you would expect the food to be of a much higher standard. Very disappointed.

Situated 10 a minutes' walk downhill to the town centre this is a really good location to stay if visiting Buxton. It has a fairly large car park and the old building is very scenic. Our room was very well decorated and quite spacious with a really modern clean and smart bathroom. Breakfast was served in a very bright and comfortable conservatory at the side of the main building and was excellent with choices other than full English (which you helped yourself to) such as fish etc. The breakfast area was smart and clean and the service was fast and efficient with dirty dishes removed from your table quickly. Food was served on piping hot plates having been freshly prepared after you had placed your order with the waitress (who was very friendly and helpful). In fact all of the staff we came into contact with were really helpful and friendly and I would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Great location for walking into town and the Opera House, for exploring the Peak District and for a day trip into Manchester. Great breakfast, good stocked bar, friendly staff throughout (although the check out staff member was not very engaging) and warm rooms. Loved this hotel and would recommend.

Lovely hotel. We've stayed in other hotels in Buxton but this was by far the best. Once we got over the uphill walk from the station we were delighted that we had chosen to stay here. All staff were pleasant, efficient and eager to help. The rooms were comfortable and the food on the restaurant was very good.

Beautiful location, incredibly friendly team and a proper full English breakfast!!! Decor a little dated but if anything it added to the charm of the place. Perfect setting to enjoy the Derbyshire countryside and we will be returning x

Had a lovely weekend stay for a family re-union of five couples. Apart from the weather.....everything was excellent. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. The food was nothing short of superb! Dinner offered three courses each of which was sublime - and catered for all tastes. We were almost disappointed on the second night that the menu had changed, as we had all enjoyed our first dinner so much. However, we need not have worried, as the choices on the new menu were every bit as good - and only half the menu had changed anyway. Breakfast was simply brilliant. There were ten of us, and needless to say we all ordered something different! However, on both mornings every single order was served accurately, and best of all on piping hot plates. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Overnight stop here en route to a family wedding. The weather at the time was atrocious and there was no free car park spaces at the small area in front of the hotel. We had to carry our luggage down a steepish hill in the pouring rain. Arrived at reception somewhat dripping but nevertheless quite cheerful expecting a concerned or chatty comment from the staff. Nothing. Key handed over and an apology that the lift was out of order - we were on the 2nd floor - did we need help? We had to ask what breakfast times were and also checkout time. Room was clean and decently furnished - what you would expect in an old building. Bed comfortable. Bathroom nicely appointed and a good shower. We did have problems with the wifi initially which necessitated a phone call and a trip down stairs but resolved eventually. No view from the window, just rear buildings and extractor fan/s. We did have to close the window in the morning as we could smell cooking fumes which wasn't very pleasant. We opted for a Continental breakfast as I don't eat meat or dairy. Staff were very nice and happily supplied me with soy milk for my cereal. Checkout a better experience than check in. Still raining so brought the car round to the front rather than tackle the climb up with luggage which we couldn't do the evening before due to other vehicles trying to do the same thing! The hotel is very conveniently placed near to the town centre which even we managed in the dark and rain, so I imagine in better light and weather this would be a perfect location to stay. Would we return? Yes, probably due to location and standard of room.

We stayed for 2 nights and found this hotel very good. Gluten free cereals toast and sausages available for breakfast and delicious options available in the evening over all 3 courses. Nothing was too much trouble . Highly recommended.

I should have been warned of the wedding on Saturday which reduced the public spaces available and consequently my hoped for relaxation and enjoyment led to frustration.. Sunday breakfast was marred by mouldy bread. Staff were very understanding and the bedroom well appointed and whilst I feel that this was a one off food problem it was not the best of experiences

A one night stay to visit the Opera House, the location was ideal, quiet but an easy short walk into town and up into the hills if you want to. We couldn't fault anything, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the food superb, the accommodation very comfortable. We managed to park easily but there is also plenty of quiet off road parking too. We plan to return.

We have stayed on 3 occasions and found this hotel really pleasant and handy for Buxton It is an older hotel but this does nothing to detract from its strengths Staff are polite and really helpful We left some things in the room and were forwarded immediately Many thanks to the woman on reception :-)

We stayed for two nights with a party of 38 Bridge Players. The faciities were excellent and the food was exceptional especially as they were serving 40 people at a time. The only let down was the lift was out of action but I'm sure that is now fixed.

We joined a large group of friends who were staying her for their evening meal. Called ahead to order our food from the set menu as requested and were a bit shocked to be told we had to pay at reception prior to the meal and that it was £30 each! We wouldn't have minded if it was excellent but it wasnt! Don't get me wrong it was tasty just not what you would expect for that cost - and my portions were very small. As for the cheese board- we expected a selection of delicious local cheeses but it was grotty supermarket cheese that had seen better days! Went back to our Airbnb hungry!

First stay in a Best Western. Would dread to think what the other hotels are like if this is branded as Plus. Very tired and dated throughout, looks like a nursing home on entry. Everything is dark and in need of tlc. The bannister on the stair rail was loose, lift not working so stair lift in place but totally no access for wheelchair users. Food & staff good but really needs a refurb

Called in on the off chance to have Sunday lunch. It was excellent - lovely food, great service and easy parking which made a big difference in torrential rain. Will definitely go again. Highly recommended.

I was pleasantly surprise to be staying at a Best Western however it is in a very old house. The hotel is located in the beautiful town of Buxton. I'm working so I don't have time to see the wonderful Opera House and spa but just driving to work you have to admire how they have kept the city looking old and lovely. I was exhausted when arriving last night an very hungry. I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas it was delicious. Our server Eleanor was a delight and made sure we were served quickly. Worked all day and had a nice glass of wine in the bar. Jordan was the bartender and he is a delight. The dining room is an addition to the house but a beautiful addition as it is almost like you are eating outside.

The building is very old and the architecture is quite beautiful. Nevertheless the rooms are renovated and quite cosy. It is a very quiet area and relaxing. The breakfast is very nice and with a wide choice. I enjoyed staying there.

Just returned from a Sunday night stay. Lovely Sunday Lunch as good as you can get anywhere, with attentive staff. Rapid book in and had a first floor room at the side of the building. As we booked only two days earlier, an up grade was not realistic due to availability. Sadly, the lift was out of order, so a top floor up-grade also was not appropriate. The room had an excellent refurbished room and bathroom. Sunday Lunch was excellent and tasty with everything cooked to near perfection with lovely flavours. Car-parking is available and it is a 10 minute stroll down the hill into Buxton. The Staff were extremely attentive and helpful. Our Breakfast was as good as we could expect and fresh from the kitchen and not re-heated. The short wait was well rewarded. We are returning when next in the area.

Had a very pleasant 3 night stay - long week end - and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We hadn't booked breakfast but were offered reduced rates whilst we were booking in - we opted for the continental breakfast for £7.50/pp - which was excellent and a no brainer compared to eating in town (despite the myriad of good cafes). Very friendly and helpful staff, and the room was very comfortable, albeit the TV was a long way off when viewing from the bed (however comfy chairs were available, but not applicable for breakfast TV with coffee in bed!)!! The room was very clean albeit somewhat dated (not one of the refurbished ones that other TA reviewers have noted?) The only 'issue' is that the bath towels were changed every day despite the eco friendly notice - as eco warriors we would have been happy not to have had fresh towels every day, Enjoyed the fact that the hotel had some character - hence our title - which was nicely married with the conservatory restaurant. The car park was free, but somewhat full when we were there, but over spill on the (quiet) road below as necessary.

i stay in this hotel 2-3 times per month. Really great hotel , very friendly staff, good little fitness room. Wifi could be improved as it drops out often with sometimes not connecting at all. Food is always good quality.

My wife and I spent a lovely night at the Lee Wood, having dinner and breakfast. The receptionist was very kind and found us a room even though we hadn't booked. There is ample free parking and the room was very comfortable. The Hotel has a very grand staircase and lovely dining room where you can take a good breakfast overlooking the grounds.

Excellent superior room with a view over the bowling green and cricket pitch and beyond. A good sized bathroom with an excellent shower. A very good rate with the 'breakfast on us' deal. Competent, helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast OK, with very good kippers and freshly baked bread. Amazing food in the restaurant for dinner, and it was possible to mix and match from the a la carte and bar menus. My wife had the salmon starter on one evening the presentation of which was a work of art. The only downside to an otherwise wonderful stay was the funeral reception in the bar and restaurant on one evening..very noisy, very drunk and no consideration at all for other guests.

We visit Buxton each year for a long weekend. Decided to try this hotel rather than B&B this time. Everything about it was excellent, from the food to the rooms to the staff. A pleasant 5 minute stroll down into the town where there are plenty of good real ale bars and restaurants.We will certainly stay at the Lee Wood next time we visit.

The hotel is in a lovely old building and has an outside seating area. The meals in the restaurant were of a good quality and had a interesting selection of food to choose from. the waiting staff were excellent and were able to help with our choices. The hotel room was clean but slightly dated, however the shower was great to use.

Lovely bar snack whilst waiting for room as we arrived early. Good value evening meal, plenty of choice, well presented and tasty, as was the breakfast. Great hotel for attending the Opera House. Easy parking.

We chose the Buxton Lee Wood Hotel as seemingly the best of the available bunch of hotels for our three day visit to this small but historic spa town deep in the Peak District. Contrary to the website, the hotel is not in convenient proximity to the town and is difficult to find. Our trek from the railway station took a good 20 mins, mostly up a steep hill, and there is no convenient public transport. On more positive angles, the period building is imposing and our view room was spacious and clean with a remarkably nice bed. However, carpets, decor and furnishings are dated .. prepare for a time warp back to the 90's. Overall, an acceptable setup albeit not good value - especially for a “Best Western”.

For the price of the hotel the disabled room was shocking. Small bathroom with no grips or space to transfer, no emergency cords, and phone not near bed in case of emergency. The one disabled bay had a van in it and although they said they would save us another spot when we returned from a trip out. It had not. They said someone had moved the cone but they weren't prepared to move the culprit. The parking is on a steep drive so bad anyway.

We had booked over internet for room but found on seeing it was rather small and poky. On making if we could change rooms they were very extremely happy to change and the subsequent room was brilliant, overlooking the front with far reaching views across the town and hills beyond. The staff are always very friendly and professional and can give good tips as where to go for the local attractions etc. Breakfast is self service and a great choice of food all served in the spacious conservatory. This was a return visit and will come back again.

Stayed for two nights in June. The first night there was a secondary school prom and the second there was a Golden Wedding/Retirement function. Neither of these impacted in our stay in any way. The hotel ensured that those not involved in the functions had rooms at the other end of the hotel and still had full use of the excellent restaurant. Amanda in the restaurant gave outstanding service. Would definitely stay there again.

Lovely hotel very clean room very clean,we had two single beds ,they were very uncomfortable we could not sleep the mattress were very hard and sunk in the middle ,I put a pillow under neath me so I could get comfortable.We stayed two night not very good for the price

Small room, tired decor, poor view from the window and the freestanding wardrobe rattles every time you walk around the room! The staff were lovely on reception and the breakfast was nice, a real shame from a higher end brand of hotel.

Had a double room on a Saturday night. Wasn't particularly spacious and the decor and fittings of the room looked generally tired. Poor value for £165 and was disappointed with it. Breakfast was fine but nothing special.

A lovely quaint hotel in beautiful settings. About 5 minutes walk into Buxton where there are many venue choices for good and drink or a visit to the Buxton Opera house. Breakfast at the hotel is buffet style but every item was hot and cooked well and diminishing stocks of certain items were quickly replaced. Had a bit of an issue with our stay but staff were helpful and quick to sort this on our return home.

Returned to Lee wood for another quinquennial Reunion, 45 years after graduation from Manchester Medical School. The hotel has retained its warm welcome and delightful character in a quiet yet convenient part of Buxton. The arrangements from my point of view as convener was seamless and all the staff on duty over the weekend were most helpful courteous and very welcoming, befitting the fine reputation of the hotel. The food provided for all the meals was excellent in quality and presentation and ambiance of the traditional dining facilities in the Pendennis room just right for the occasion. I goes without saying though certainly not unnoticed and very important for me, that the high standard of cleanliness in both the public areas and bedrooms has been maintained. As our members travel from all parts of the UK as well as USA and Australia for this gathering, good road access and secure (and free!) parking is important which is the case with this venue and also Buxton is a great centre for tourist interest of visitors, as the hotel is handy for a short walk around the town. I can strongly recommend the Lee Wood as good value in a turbulent sector.

We stayed here after finding our air bnb less than habitable. Reception found us 2 double rooms with breakfast at a great price. Rooms were beautiful clean and fresh. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble will definitely be returning and recommending. Thank you Denise & friends

We had a standard room which was large and airy, large tv, plenty of storage and 2 comfy chairs. The hotel being on the edge of town was quiet and peaceful. A short downhill walk into town, to shops, station and buses. Parking was easy on site. Excellent food and all of the staff were helpful and friendly. Dining is in a large conservatory with plenty of room. Even the lift was quiet. Highly recommended.

We stayed to celebrate our Wedding anniversary this year. The room we stayed in had been recently renovated. The bed was big and comfortable, the en-suite shower tidy and clean, the room itself quiet and soothing. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent, to coin a phrase, the pudding was to die for. Breakfast the following morning was typical and I heartily recommend the Full English. We will be coming back.

We booked to stay here as our friend was hosting his 50th party here. We were not dissapointed at all, lovely friendly helpful staff. Our room was very pleasant overlooking the front gardens and hills in the distance. Comfortable bed, coffee making facilities nice bathroom with shower over bath and lots of hot water. The breakfast in the conservatory was good, plenty to choose from and prompt service. The walk to the town is about 10 mins downhill and 15 back! This is a lovely area and I would certainly recommend this place.

Our Harley Group spent four comfort nights at the Best Wester Plus at Buxton. Our room though a little dated was very clean with a comfortable bed, tea making facilities plus an ironing board and iron. The bathroom had a bath with a very good shower and a good hot water supply. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our 24 bikes and the cars that accompanied us had ample parking spaces. The centre of Buxton was just a ten to fifteen minute walk away from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

When we arrived at the hotel they had no record of our booking which we had booked through booking .com. However they soon sorted it out and managed to get us a room for both nights. Lovely friendly staff, they are a credit to the hotel. our room was spotless, it had just been refurbished to a high standard. We ate in the restaurant on the first night the meal was fabulous. Good breakfast freshly cooked and hot. We will return to this hotel in a heartbeat.

This hotel is situated on the edge of town and has adequate parking. We arrived on a Sunday evening and check in was quick and efficient. The rooms were well appointed clean and tidy. Breakfast is great help yourself to all the cold food you'd expect and order the cooked element which arrives quickly and is really tasty. Tea arrives virtually as you sit down and is replenished as required. The restaurant is a bright airy conservatory style room. The evening meal which some of our party had was very good. The rest of us chose to walk down into town which isn't too far however on the way back up the hill it feels much longer! I would be very happy to stay here again.

Third time staying at this hotel for a family get together. Lovely clean spacious rooms. Food at dinner and breakfast outstanding. Staff friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Short walk into the centre of Buxton. Will definately stay again.

Stayed last night on a short trip to the Peak District. Yes it's old. But it has charm and everything you need. Comfy bed, nice shower and bath. An excellent breakfast. You can park and walk to town. Will return shortly

Stayed a few times in this hotel and like it very much. The bathrooms are separate from the bedrooms rather than just a partition wall within the bedroom. Nice spacious feel with a non standard feel to it. Good breakfast. Made veggie sausage at request. Helpful staff too

Just had the one night here. Paid perhaps 50% more than I might have done for a Premier Inn or similar but less than standard price. Room was comfortably with a surprisingly modern en-suite. Dining room and Bar area were very quiet in the evening but we had a decent meal with good quality wine and beer. Decent breakfast. Would certainly re-book if staying in the Buxton area again.

A great break away ably enhanced by the staff and facilities of Great Western. We indulged ourselves with the walks and food. Although we dined out on occasion, the food in the hotel was as good as anywhere

We stayed here for 5 nights. The room (rm11) was very comfortable and airy. View from the room was over the cricket ground and bowling green. Only niggle was that the step into the bath was very high, could be difficult for older people. The rest of the bathroom was excellent. The breakfast was cooked to order and was plentiful and tasted great. The staff were very friendly (especially Kayleigh). A short walk down into Buxton via the Opera House to some good restaurants. We would definitely stay here again if were visiting Buxton/Peak District

A friendly hotel very close to all the amenities and attractions in Buxton. Beautiful old building, well preserved. Excellent caring staff and good quality food in the restaurant/bar. Lots of rooms with distinctive style, I especially liked room 6, I have never seen so many electrical outlets in a hotel room in my life. 10 in the living room and 8 in the bedroom !

Booked 5 nights with friends. Needed a twin room with walk-in shower. Staff could not have been more helpful and indeed ended up with a newly refurbished room. All staff very friendly and helpful. Kayleigh produced a hand written list of sights to see. Breakfast first rate.

Booked a quality room online and commented I need a shower rather than a bath., medical reasons, arrived and checked in and was taken to a good room with lounge area and views, but it had a bath. Returned to reception and was moved to a smaller room that had a newly fitted shower. On checking out a few days later, I was presented with a bill for the cost of the original room. Once explained to the receptionist a reduction was made. We were informed that the room we had has the only shower cubicle in the hotel, all others have baths with over showers. Apart from this mix up, the stay was good even though we would have preferred a larger room. Breakfast was reasonable and served in a good time. Car park is quite small, but we managed to find a space each evening.

I stayed in a double annexe room for one night. Upon arrival I had to wait over ten minutes for anyone to appear at reception. I was taken to my room and left with no instruction re the heating, facilities, meal arrangements etc. The staff member was rude and just walked off. I had to ring reception as my room was cold and the radiators were not working, the phone was answered after I rang for a fourth time. I was told the heating would be fixed immediately. I rang again about 20/30 mins later as my room was still cold and radiators were not working I was waiting to go out as well. I was told that I would be provided with a small electric heater - no offer was made to move me to a room with heating. When I returned later the room was boiling and I had to turn the electric heater off, and this led to having to keep turning it on and off repeatedly to get a decent temperature. The room was noisy, some water system in the bathroom (behind toilet) was making noise continuously and you could hear every movement from the rooms above and at the side. There is no soundproofing, I didn't get a great night sleep. All in all I was disappointed with the customer service when I informed reception the next day I was just told guests usually find that room quiet... I don't think I'll be in a hurry to stay here again.

The essentials of a good hotel stay are a comfortable sleep and functional plumbing. Our stay in this hotel faltered on both those counts but much else about the facilities and service were fine and some even very good so it's a conundrum that came out about average. However, it could and should be a lot better. The good: but a short walk (or very short drive) from the happening parts of Buxton, this grand old Georgian pile should be well placed as a contemporary hotel. The reception was efficient and engaging and our suite (#6) was roomy, clean, quiet, adequately appointed and somewhat comfortable – but see below. Almost everything expected was there and most of it worked as expected. The bed linens were crisp and clean and there were enough pillows for each of us to find a favourite. The bathroom is of adequate size, adequately appointed and well lit. The included Wifi worked well on all our devices. Power outlets abound throughout the suite – as does the lighting which is as bright as an operating theatre with everything blazing. Breakfast is a good quality and well serviced buffet/a la carte ensemble taken in the sprawling conservatory and we had one dinner in the same restaurant which was also well serviced and of a good standard. Parking is included and almost at the front door. The not so good: our room was the hotel's only suite and, according to the reception clerk, “the best in the house” yet the room décor is a dour coalition of hotel vanilla, IKEA minimalism and brocade sofas little of which meets 4-star expectations. Indeed, the bathroom is at the lower end of 3-stars. In which bathroom the water pressure and temperature of the shower were fine but the adjustable shower head was totally dysfunctional; either set to flay or spastically spraying water in every direction except where required. There were no less than three desks for varying purposes yet no refrigerator. The bad: the veteran mattresses (two large singles tethered together to make a king) were about as comfortable as a bag of coconuts. Long use has left deep and misshapen depressions in both mattress to which a thick mattress topper has been overlaid in order to unite the mattresses and (presumably) fill out the hollows. This was the most uncomfortable hotel bed we have experienced in recent memory and that is a title with many contenders. The upshot: fix the shower, replace the beds and this could be a very good hotel. Get in a decorator and even excellence might be within reach.

We stayed at this hotel on a blustery Friday night, having booked it quite late. I was offered the opportunity to upgrade by "bidding" and was successful with my bid, which meant we had a wonderful deluxe suite. The bed was effectively two singles joined together, making a spacious super king size. The lounge area was comfortable with views to two sides, and there was a good range of tea and coffee making facilities. Situated close to the town centre, this hotel makes an ideal place from which to view the town and travel to the surrounding areas.

Lovely hotel , parked fine trip was with work. The conference suite was a good size . Tea and coffee was replaced with helpful staff. Lunch was fish and chip which was really tasty Lots of local places to visit for pleasure too. Worth a visit

First of all staff all very polite room clean breakfast good down side beds hardest we have ever encountered bath took forever to empty, bar staff elusive but polite when tracked down would we stay again probably not but if you don't mind a hard bed and can sleep through noise book it .

We had a great family weekend! You have to fetch the barman but it's a 24h bar! Breakfast is great, dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. Rooms are slightly dated but clean and roomy, new bathrooms though and good shower pressure! Lovely views of the peaks and Solomon's temple

Just had a 3 night break in a Deluxe Double room (12) and could not fault anything. The room was the cleanest we have stayed in and the amenities great. Nice touch to have the buxton water and bottle of orange. The breakfast was cooked to order and a huge selction of cereals etc. Restaurant was nice and food plentiful. The staff service throughout was excellant, friendly and helpful. Location of the hotel was very close to buxton and easy to find. Will definately return and would highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

The pros: All the staff were very polite, breakfast was your typical hotel buffet setup, good location relative to town, parking outside The cons: The room whilst a good size was very dated in the deco. The bathroom was more modern but overall its just about fine, middle of the road, nothing to shout about. And the PAT testing on the TV in the room was out of date. Given how much I paid I can't say it was value for money, £80/night seems about right to me.

Two couples stayed one night to enjoy dinner and breakfast. All considered the food and the restaurant service first class both for dinner and breakfast. The rooms provided were huge and the bed was very comfortable. In all, four very happy customers who would choose this hotel on a return to Buxton. Thank you.

I stayed here on a guitar retreat in March . I had a very comfortable room although the view was just of other rooms, the bed was large and very comfortable . Staff were helpful and friendly and the service good. Food was excellent and plentiful. Whilst the majority of my stay was paid as part of the inclusive price of the retreat, I paid for one night myself which did seem rather pricey .

Two night stay, arrived Friday night. Check in took a few minutes as no staff about when we arrived. Room was good position at back corner of the hotel with two windows. Ate quite late on Friday, my pasta starter was a bit too al dente although not bad enough to fuss over, food was very good however and no complaints from anyone over three courses. We did have an issue with the bathroom being very hot and the control on the radiator didn't seem to work, sadly maintenance couldn't fix it. Breakfast both mornings very good, table service Saturday and self service Sunday. Staff very friendly, I always annoy myself for not getting names of people who are very helpful but all the staff we encountered were great. Would stay again if in the area.

Two night break with our walking group and absolutely no complaints.The hotel is spotless,the rooms are warm and comfortable and the staff were very good.The food was excellent with generous portions.As for location it is about a 10 minute walk to the town center.Highly recommended and will definitely return.

Stayed here last week for five nights. The hotel was very welcoming; when I checked in they upgraded me from a single to a double: a newly refurbished room with excellent walk-in shower and very comfortable bed (important as I have a bad back). View wasn't great but it was very quiet; warm too, given the snowy & windy conditions outside. Breakfast in the main restaurant was top notch, with a huge choice of hot and cold fare. I didn't eat there in the evening (it's only five minutes' walk to a wide choice of restaurants and pubs in the town) but I had a bar meal one day: standard fish and chips but very fresh and tasty. A possible down side is that the hotel is a little pricey but, being a Rewards member, savings do come with free nights. Of the BW hotels I have stayed in around Europe and North America, the Lee Wood is one of the best. There is a nostalgic side too, as my late mother stayed here during WW2 when she was evacuated from down south to finish her physiotherapy training.

Nice convenient location 5-10 minutes from town centre. Nice gardens with hotel overlooking sports grounds. Hotel was of an interesting character and my wife liked looking at the various antiques etc around the hotel. Staff were friendly if not a little too impatient to remove the breakfast items before your partner was also finished. Staff recommended places outside to eat. We were quite lucky in that the hotel was not very full because we could hear from room 9 everybody going to the toilet on either side of us. Add to that the noise from upstairs. If put in this wrong room next to noisier guests you would not have a very good night's sleep. Me I personally would not return to this hotel. It has some striking features in a convenient location but cannot afford to put even one newspaper in the lounge.

For 26 years our group of couples have spent a week break in Best Western and other hotels throughout the UK. This year we were at the Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton and despite the attrocious weather we enjoyed a wonderfuil get together. The Hotel staff were very welcoming, it was our second visit to the hotel, and some of the staff remembered us. The allocated rooms were large, very clean and tidy and the facoilities were first class. Heaters for the rooms are available if required. We were booked in for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast and at dinner we were given the menus as we gathered in the bar area. However there were a number of dishes not available which was disappointing, but we were assured they would be on the menu and available for the following evening. However the meal served was well presented, well cooked and very enjoyable. The service staff were excellent in that they were friendly and obliging to our needs, especially Helena who was good fun and entertaining.. The hotel was true to its word the following evening with everything on the menu being available. The breakfasts were excellent and there were no complaints about what was on offer.and really set us up for each day. Our overall stay at the hotel was very much relaxing and comfortable and it was certainly value for money despite the slight shortcomings over the dinner menu and availablility of some drinks. All agreed that we would one day return to the hotel and I would certainly recommend it for a short break or a weekend.. .

We stayed for one night in a Deluxe Room. The room was spacious and very comfortable with a lovely view. Breakfast was served in the conservatory and was very enjoyable. We will definitely book this hotel again.

Lovely hotel, beautiful room, we stayed in a Deluxe double and had a separate seating area the toiletries in the bathroom were lovely. The room, as the rest of the hotel was spotless. The staff all very nice and polite. Dinner and breakfast served in a delightful dining room, the food was delicious and of excellent quality and beautifully presented. There is nothing one could complain about and would highly recommend the hotel to anyone. Very conveniently placed for the town. Just wished our stay had been longer. We stayed on the 7th March.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel when going to a concert at the opera house. It is only about a five minute walk so is ideally situated. There was no problem parking at the hotel and check in was very quick and easy. We only had a standard room but it was well furnished and very comfortable with large newly refurbished bathroom. Breakfast was mainly buffet with a menu with extra choices. There was everything you could want and very well cooked and hot. Every member of staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. We will definitely return when visiting Buxton.

Normally we like our Premier Inns, as you know what you're going to get, adn they are good value, but we had airline miles to use and booked into the Best Western in Buxton ahead of a big walk. We knew it was an old building repurposed as a hotel, but we didn't expect the rooms to be so good. A great bed, plenty of space, brand new decor in side, a hit shower and bath, and lots of perfect touches, light switches by the bed, tea and coffee, a desk, lots of plug points, and all this on top of the wonderful architecture and design of the building, perched slightly out of town up on the hillside. The room really seemed to be part of it, rather than a box. We used airline miles, but the price was amazing anyway. We'd go back there and pay a lot more. We skipped breakfast as we wanted to get off walking, but it smelt good on the way out of the door.

Fantastic return to Lee Wood, shame we couldn't stay longer! On booking we had chosen a room in the hotel however we were contacted by the hotel to say they had put us in the annexe instead. We wondered if these rooms would have the same high standard as the main hotel but we shouldn't have worried, the room was beautifully decorated. All the staff we met were welcoming, polite and served us very efficiently. Very quick check in and nothing too much trouble. We slept very soundly, no noise at all and our room faced the front of the annexe. Breakfast was delicious, a huge choice of great quality produce cooked beautifully. I would recommend Lee Wood to anyone staying in Buxton or the surrounding area. We will definitely be back. Thanks to all for a delightful stay.

Stayed here as a couple for a night away while Grandparents looked after our toddler. Really impressed with the hotel, and would definitely return again. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and were incredibly impressed with the food in there!

A lovely reception by the staff as soon as we entered the hotel. We were shown to our table in the very clean and newly refurbished conservatory. Antonio and Ellie are very pleasant people and me and my wife enjoyed their attention to detail and service. The food is just fantastic. I started with a soup then moved onto the rib eye with home made thick chips. The rib eye flavour just exploded in my mouth with the well seasoned food hit the right spot. I finished off with a sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. We just loved this night and will definitely return for the value for money. Well done to the chefs and staff at the Leewood hotel.

Had the pleasure to stay at the Lee Wood a few times while based in Buxton through work. The staff are wonderful, incredibly polite, and highly professional. The old building does have its little foibles - creaky corridor floorboards which aren't ideal when working nights, and I found it difficult to sleep as the hotel is a busy place through the day. However the annexe part of the hotel is very comfortable and very quiet. Food is superb, and on the whole I enjoyed my stays.

Only stayed for 1 night when seeing a band at the Opera House. Reception wasn't manned when we arrived and we had a short wait until someone turned up. Stayed in one of the suites and, as shown in tbe photos, it was very clean and of a really good standard. Breakfast was nice and included in the room rate. Not sure I would've paid the advertised rate of £13.50 each. Expensive breakfasts seem to be the norm these days in hotels, but you could walk 5 minutes down the road and get the same for less than half the price. Overall for just an overnight it was very good.

We had a 2 night stay here in December, clean and comfortable room. The breakfast was very good with a large selection of both hot and cold food on the menu. Overall it was a very pleasant stay. Location was very handy for walking into town.

Stayed 2 nights 11-12 January. Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. Just a short downhill walk to the town centre and very close to the lovely Pavilion Gardens and park. Ample free parking. Didn't eat here but drinks in the bar were reasonably priced. Ideal place to stay if visiting Buxton. Our room 30 was huge but were not put off bu the uneven floor in both the room and bathroom. Powerful shower ut s deep bath so some may have difficulty getting in and out. Overall a great hotel and a lovely weekend.

Arrived here 2 December 2018 and stayed three nights. Nice room on first floor. Lots of space, very clean, plenty of hot water. Good wi-fi signal. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast. A cask ale in the bar, and some nice bottled beers as well. Adequate parking, and free street parking if car park were to be full. Would definitely use again.

Stopped for one week in December and found the hotel experience very welcoming. Even when another guest had a shower with the door open and set the fire alarm off at just past midnight could not dampen the stay. Breakfast was well set out and freshly cooked, other options available. Hotel staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. So impressed have booked twice more in 2019. Worst part for me was the upward trek when we walked into Buxton for the evening meal, perhaps move the Hotel to the bottom of the hill!!

We live in Buxton and wanted to do something on New Year's Eve so booked the 'black tie' function here. Sparkling wine and delicious canapés and you could go into dinner any time you wanted to, rather than being herded in as is normal at these types of function. The menu choice was really good (not a pre-booked one) and the food really was exceptional. Every single thing we had was delicious and beautifully cooked. Dinner was followed by a disco, with the resident DJ actually quite charming and entertaining. The whole evening was well organised by lovely staff and we really thought we had good value for money as well as a great time. Fantastic!

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times for weekend breaks and new years eve celebrations and just cannot fault it. This was our 5th new years eve gala dinner over the past few years at this fantastic hotel. The staff are great. So friendly. (special mention for Antonio and Elli ). The food is fabulous and the great care that each and every member of staff take to ensure you have a good time. We stayed in room 41 in the annex. Lovely big room and very private. You could not fault the new years eve gala dinner. Great atmosphere. Other guests at the gala dinner were so friendly. You could tell they were all enjoying the experience. Thank you again to all the staff and owners of the Lee wood Hotel. You are a credit to the Hotel. We will be back again soon

Good value for money hotel, within Peak District, close enough for short journey to Manchester & Sheffield. Everything was very good from room to service to food, put against cost of other establishments in the area, good value for money. Many lesser hotels & pubs with accomodation charge significantly more.

We were a party of 4 who booked a 2 night break for 30/31st December including a Gala Dinner on New Years Eve. The experience was superb from start to finish and this hotel has to be sampled to be believed, . Without exception every member of staff were wonderful - courteous -professional -always helpful and willing to go the extra mile!! The food was equally wonderful and given 100 plus diners on New Years eve the quality surpassed any New Year we have had experienced in the past - tasty/ joyous and hot 6 courses served by staff who actually seemed to enjoy the night and who's sole objective was clearly to make sure the guests had a memorable evening together with a DJ serving great music! Our sincere thanks to you all and of course we have already booked repeat for 2019!!

We just picked the hotel for a 1 night trip away and we could not have picked a better hotel. Staff were very accommodating nothing too much trouble food excellent and even though there was a party been held there it did not disturb us at any time

Travelled from Derby to Buxton last Saturday to go to the Buxton Opera House Panto (Dick Whittington - which was excellent). We had decided that we'd enjoy the evening much more if we didn't have to drive home on the night, so had booked into Lee Wood for the Saturday night. Arrived about 2 hours before checking in time, just hoping they would allow us to park the car - but an available room was identified, and we were allowed to occupy straight away. The staff were all great; the Hotel was clean and well presented. Breakfast was cooked to order, and was very good - lots and lots of choice. For the price we paid (which included optional last minute cancellation - driving in December in the Peak District can be challenging at times!) we were extremely happy with the accommodation, which is less than 10 minutes walk from the Opera House. We would very happily stay at Lee Wood again; absolutely no complaints.
