    « Old style comfort »

On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly reception staff and shown to our room in the annexe. We had thought this might be a modern addition but was pleased to see the accommodation was in the same style as the hotel. Ample tea, coffee and shortbread was a considerate touch. The modern bathroom had lovely illuminated mirror. Situated a short walk - 15 mins - from the high street where we could access a variety of restaurants, we would stay again.

    « Stuck in Time »

Despite the title Of my review we really like this venue having visited some 30 years ago. The only change was up graded bedrooms and bathrooms and a glass Conservatory. They have moved the bar but traffic was quite slow. We did not have dinner as the menu was a little stuffy and slightly expensive, as was the accommodation. However we had a front facing room,10 which was separated from room 11 with what sounded like rice paper walls. Both our neighbours TV and conversation were amplified and we battled to sleep. The welcome at reception was very friendly and an excellent breakfast served. However we were watched by a porter/ waiter struggle up the stairs without offering assistance. Parking is difficult but free on site and secure, wifi works well after a tedious log on process.

    « Coeliac friendly »

We stayed here last night as a last minute booking to use as a base for a night out. Staff were lovely- very friendly and helpful, hotel is very clean and well cared for, our room was comfortable and thankfully not ridiculously hot! (Just lacking enough tea bags. 2 for an overnight stay seems a bit meagre). Good points- coeliac friendly breakfast of toast and cereal! Staff had a great understanding of the risk of cross-contamination ?? Bad points- guests were very noisy in the morning, next door seemed to be intent on slamming every drawer possible repeatedly and upstairs must have been wearing clogs judging by the racket coming through the ceiling... Overall worth the bargain price we paid but would have been disappointed if we had paid full price.

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed here for one night when going to a show at the opera house which is only 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. Check in was easy and quick. The room was well furnished and spotlessly clean. A good sized modern bathroom. We had a bar meal which couldn't be faulted and breakfast also was high standard. A special mention for Charlie who was serving at the bar until late and very early at breakfast. Would definitely return.

« What a delightfull find in Buxton!!! »

We have stayed in Beautiful Buxton many times ........ and did not know this gorgeous Best Western Hotel existed it is on top of our many lists now!!! So dear readers another Mini Moon as part of our 20th wedding anniversary celebrations on the 20th August this year. Firstly thank you to the 1st class receptionist Suzy who selected a beautiful suite for us lots of space and height, lovely furnishings and drapes , super tea tray with many treats , the most immaculate housekeeping , the bathroom was absolutely pristine white just oh so perfect. Then onto Dinner on the Sunday evening ......... Charlie who was our waiter oh so very polished with his service superb meal with drinks to toast (thank you chefs). Breakfast is a must.......... Wow the buffet everything one would need fresh fruit salad, cereals , dried fruits ,fruit bowl ,yogurts, fruit juice galore, croissants plain and sweet, numerous breads, then the Menu to order at the table with the super waitresses, from the full English , smoked salmon, haddock , porridge with cream and brown sugar, or just boiled eggs and soldiers what treat to start the day. The only negative sadly having to check out but ......... We shall be back so very soon. Anne and Alanxx

« Excellent well equiped hotel in the heart of Buxton »

The hotel is in an excellent location, close to the centre of Buxton, but on a slight hill providing beautiful views across the valley. The room was comfortable and the reception team were friendly and welcoming.

    « LOVELY, RELAXING STAY »

I was very satisfied with my stay at the Lee Wood hotel, which was both peaceful and relaxing, qualities that are important to me. My room was spacious, clean and well-maintained, as was the hotel generally, and I found the hotel staff welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was excellent and so too was the service. I cannot think of any criticism, and would therefore highly recommend the hotel to anyone contemplating staying there. I certainly hope to do so again!

    « Relaxing weekend away »

We stayed the weekend of the 22nd October. The hotel is a nice walk from the town and we decided not to eat in the hotel, as we had seen some lovely restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable, we were in the annexe and when we came back in the afternoon on the 2nd day there was no heating until 4.30 ( on a timer apparently ) so it was a bit chilly! Breakfast on day 1 was OK once we got it but despite there being lots of staff around, no-one took our order for ages, which delayed us getting out. The second day was much better though. I'm glad it was dry as we had to walk from the annexe into the main hotel building for breakfast. The restaurant really needs redecorating and updating but overall our stay was pleasant and relaxing and it was a great base to visit other parts of the Peak District.

    « Wedding Day »

After a long search to find a venue which suited us we settled on the Lee Wood Hotel as the choice of rooms they had available to suite number of guests and choice of menu was the decisive factor in the decision ,We were so pleased in the way our needs were met and did not feel pressured into anything that were not in our plans . We give credit to Mathew who managed to co-ordinate our day just as we wanted it and the staff that helped on the day were outstanding !! I would definitely recommend this Hotel to anyone that is seeking to host an event or occasion as everything possible is done to ensure it is exactlly how you would like it to be !! Awesome service indeed Thank You to All that made our Wedding a most enjoyable experience .

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here on our way home from Alton Towers. We had a junior suite which comprised a living room area and large bedroom.TV in both areas ,and complimentary fruit ,soft drinks, and chocolate bars.Nice touch,so it was worth paying that little extra for a the suite. Staff were welcoming, and breakfast was good.Usual help yourself to cereal etc,and an ordered English breakfast. This was served in the very large conservatory which was wonderful. Only bad point when we wanted to check out,the girl on reception made us wait at least 10 minutes while she counted the night's takings. She didn't even acknowledge us until she had finished or apologise for the wait.Apart form her the rest of the staff were very good. However this did not spoil our stay and we will stay here again when next in the area.

« Weekend break in the Peak District »

I booked this hotel for a stop over whilst in the Peak District and we were not disappointing. It's a nice clean hotel in a very good location. The bed was excellent as was the service. I can't comment on the food as we didn't stop to eat in the hotel. Pleasant and helpful staff added to the experience.

« Perfect location for exploring Buxton and whole Peak District »

My wife and I stayed 2 nights as a base for a short visit to the Peak District. Luxurious reception and lounge areas, excellent room, friendly staff, great breakfast - difficult to fault. Location is 5 minutes walk from the historic part of the town so perfect for leaving car and exploring architecture and restaurants!

« Just what we needed »

Stayed here , due to my brother having his 40th close by , the room was big enough, and the bed was comfy , down side very expensive breakfast. We ate els where . My cousin went for breakfast and decided against it . In a double room leave 2 bottles of water.

    « Autumn long weekend »

Bedroom: clean, airy, well appointed, decor a little dated as were fixtures and fittings, good heating, comfy bed, reasonably quiet, telly quality good enough and easy to work. Free Wifi pretty good for a large elderly building. En suite: clean, not very big but ok, bath a reasonable size, water as plentiful & hot as you like and quick with it, excellent shower attachment, toilet works properly, good heating Breakfast: standard Fayre competently produced Staff: polite, pleasant and helpful Pricing: competitive and reasonable for what's provided, Building itself: standard older spa town hotel, quiet, well appointed, pleasant, comfortable bit like your favourite pair of slippers. Overall: I would happily recommend it. It's about 5-10 min walk from the centre of this pleasant market/spa town. Bit like a mini Harrogate. Go out of the entrance the other way and in a few minutes you are up out in the spectacular Peak District moorland.

« Idea base for motorbikes in the peak disreict »

Had a lovely stay here, the staff are very welcoming and helpful, especially the bar man, Charles. The room was clean, not much of a view, but wasn't to bother about that, it was warm and the bed very comfortable. The evening meal was wonderful. I enjoyed my breakfast, but my partners scrambled eggs were a bit to runny, but they were more than willing to correct this. There was plenty of hard standing for our bikes, which is very important.

    « Bit shabby »

Very dated interior . Wonky walls. Draughty window in room. Bubbling wallpaper. Black mould on bathroom walls seeping through the wallpaper. Bed was so uncomfortable the floor would have been better. Cooked breakfast was OK. View was nice from front. Parking difficult to get in and out as very narrow. The location was good and the staff very attentive just needs some tlc and updating on the buildings interior.

« Ideal base for visiting the Peak District »

My husband and I stayed here for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We requested a room in the annex, a short walk across the car park from the main hotel, and were in room 41. There were tea and coffee making facilities, an iron, hairdryer, bath and shower, complimentary toiletries and a huge bed! We dined out of the hotel and skipped breakfast but the evening menu looked lovely. A huge thank you to the reception staff who couldn't be more helpful! Lovely hotel and would definitely visit again.

    « Buxton Comfort »

We stayed in this Best Western hotel for only one night and I wished we could have stayed longer. We were lucky enough to receive an upgrade to a Junior Suite and I thought that the decor and furnishings were lovely-new modern light wood furniture looked lovely in an old building. We had a proper coffee machine and we were able to adjust the heat and open the windows. Very quiet surroundings at night but near enough to town to walk in if required. Bed was large and comfortable and pillows firm. There are special allergy pillows available. Only gripe would be the slight shiny loo paper!

« Idea Base for exploring the Peak District »

Spent a single night at the Buxton Lee Wood Hotel to take in a few concerts at the Opera house. My wife suffers from MS so we were pleasantly surprised when our room was upgraded and moved to make things easier for her, much appreciated. Room(No10) was clean and light and had lovely views over the nearby park. Breakfast is served in a large conservatory, again with great views from some tables. All in all the hotel is a great base for exploring the Peak District and we be glad to return in the future. We would recommend a room in the main building for those unsteady on their feet as it has a lift, the hotel has other rooms in a nearby annexe but there are a lot of steps to and from those rooms.

    « Pals Treat »

58 of us descended on this lovely traditional hotel in Buxton, some arrived Thursday the rest Friday & Saturday. It was a great time to catch up with our friends. We had a free afternoon Friday then we all met up for drinks and a lovely hot Buffet. The staff were very friendly and attentive and had a sense of humour. A traditional English hotel very welcoming. Saturday another free day then met up for drinks and we had a fantastic Gala dinner followed by a disco what a wonderful night full of fun and laughter. The rain today Sunday didn't dampen our spirits I would definitely stay here again.

    « Lovely setting »

We stayed for a get-away break of 6 days in this hotel which is situated in a leafy and attractive setting in North Buxton but still very handy for the town and even closer to the Opera Theatre area. The staff we met were excellent and helpful without exception. We did not take an evening meal there but the standard of the breakfast was excellent, cooked to order with a good range of extras and relaxed. Our room was of a good size and value for the price we paid with an excellent bed, both and shower but generally elsewhere the hotel furnishings were a little "tired". We had a standard room which was fine except that being above the main entrance the chat and smell of smokers later at night was a minor nuisance. That did not prevent us having a relaxing and enjoyable week however and we would recommend Lee House for a friendly comfortable stay in a lovely setting.

« Been to better Best Westerns »

We were disappointed that we were not in the main hotel. Instead we were in the Annex. If the weather had been bad we would have been wet through getting to the dinning room. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant . I thought lipstick on glasses was a thing of the past, but no. The glasses needed a clean and polish. Breakfast was a bit sparse, not as much variety as other Best Westerns. The hotel is in a hilly part of Buxton, not wheel chair friendly. The town and Opera house are about 20 mins. walk from the hotel. I was born in Buxton and expected more from this hotel.

    « Business stopover »

Good hotel with very attentive staff. Good rooms and service was very good. Particularly good breakfast which I have never really noticed in the many hotels. Served instead of buffet style which made a difference and the young waitress knew the residents who had obviously stayed more than one night.....great attention to detail. Will stay again, when the chance arises.

« Perfect base for the Peak District »

Well presented hotel, although there was building work going on during our stay, but it did not interfere with our break. A quiet position, but close to the centre of Buxton for all the amenities. There was a large selection for breakfast and enough to cater for all tastes, and always piping hot, we did not use the restaurant, as we like to sample to the local fare.

    5
« Only there 3 nights; would like to have stayed longer! »

Although the hotel doesn't offer full disabled facilities, there is level access to many (if not all) of the bedrooms, and to all of the public areas. When making my booking I found the hotel staff to be very helpful in planning to accommodate my small mobility scooter and wheeled walking frame. Room 2 was suggested, and it seemed to have that little extra space which made all the difference. During the stay the staff were again friendly and helpful, and we were made very welcome. The rooms are a little faded, but very comfortable and clean. The meals in the restaurant and in the bar were of excellent quality; and the breakfasts are outstanding! The only small niggle was that occasionally the restaurant staff seemed a little overstretched leading to a longer wait than we might have expected, and also, on one occasion, a mistake in the food order. This last was swiftly corrected, but could have been avoided altogether with sufficient staff. Despite this, we can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

    « Nice location »

This hotel is nicely located about five minutes walk of the centre of Buxton. There's plenty of parking and we had a very pleasant suite. The building itself has a lot of character and although creaking in places provides an excellent base to explore Buxton and the surrounding areas.

    « Nice stay »

Just stayed overnight again whilst in Buxton to see a show. Never had a problem parking at the hotel. Nice friendly staff especially on reception, good toiletries and tea and coffee in the room, five minute walk to opera house . Good choice at breakfast .

    « Good location »

Nice hotel, staff friendly and room clean. Didn't have chance to try the dining as went into Buxton for a meal and skipped breakfast Parking was a bit cramped although there was a wedding on so forgive them that Would stay again as was also a great price

    « Traditional hotel »

Classic hotel situated just off the town centre. We travelled by train and no problem walking to hotel. Plenty of car parking spaces. Room very comfortable, got a good night's sleep. Staff very pleasant. Hi view from window.

    « Helpful staff »

Enjoyed three nights here. Staff were very helpful and friendly. No complaints perfectly fine base for Buxton. Grand old building in quite location. Seems to be plenty of parking and rooms for training / conference or functions.

    « Midweek break »

Lovely hotel just a 5min walk from the train station and town centre. We had a suite, which was spotlessly clean, lovely and comfortable. Tea, coffee, water, Coca Cola, chocolate bars all complementary. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast. Would recommend this hotel.

    « Quaint little gem »

Arrived very early from Australia and while room wasn't available staff were very obliging in holding my luggage and took my mobile number to contact me once room was available. I had a lovely corner double room at rear of hotel which I loved. Breakfast was superb in the conservatory with a gorgeous view of the gardens and dinner was also very good. Not located in the centre of Buxton but it was a very comfortable walk up/down the hill into town (and I'm not a fit person or lover of hills). Room had excellent heating and windows that opened - anyone reading my reviews can garner my love of fresh air when available. I wanted a hotel that had the option of inhouse dining but the quaint English manor feel and this is exactly what I received. Not cheap but I really enjoyed my stay here.

    3
    « Poor Room »

The staff were very pleasant all round, the food was good. The room was exceedingly poor but they did switch us to a better one. Not the best of rooms that I have stayed in for the price paid. Doubt if I would stay in the hotel again!

    « What a little gem!! »

We had an overnight stay on 23/9/16 to celebrate our wedding Anniversary and my husband's 60th Birthday on 24/9/16. I booked online and then spoke to Lisa in reservations who couldn't be more helpful. From the minute we parked at the Hotel we received such a friendly welcome from all the staff. They are a great team. We parked at the front of the hotel and the car park was very well set out. On arrival at Reception the young gentleman was extremely friendly and informative, great customer service! We had booked a show at the Opera House which was a very short walk away and we were provided with a map. Buxton is a lovely place. The breakfast was delicious and of very high quality with plenty of choice and the conservatory area where we ate was light and airy. There is also a gym downstairs and food/ drink is available at the cosy bar area. All in all we couldn't fault the hotel and can't wait to stay again soon. Many thanks to all the staff Sue and Steve Wragg

    « Lovely stay. »

Stayed here for the weekend for my friends wedding. The staff were so friendly and made our stay a real treat. We all ate together on the Friday evening. The food was excellent and the service fantastic. The wedding went without a hitch and was timed to perfection. Would definately stay here again.

    « Weekend stay away »

Had a superb stay at this hotel during a weekend end of August 2016. Plenty of things to see up Buxton and very quiet and peaceful. There was a wedding taking place during the Saturday afternoon/evening and this got a little busy during the evening with limited staff at the bars etc. Also bar prices and meals etc were a little steep to say the least. We went a walk down the road to the clubhouse which had reasonable food and drink prices in the main and a live group on for Saturday night which was a complete bonus so thumbs up to them. All the staff at The Best Western Lee Wood hotel were pretty amazing all through our stay and could not go far enough out of their way to help with things. Including sending our Ipad back to us via the post after us leaving this behind much appreciated and full marks for both honesty and integrity of the workforce.

« Back at the Lee Wood for Christmas workshop »

Just had a great two days at this lovely hotel. As always fabulous friendly staff who can't do enough for you. Lovely en suite bedroom with large comfortable bed which for single occupancy us very unusual. All areas of the hotel have lovely comfortable seating areas. We did not eat in the conservatory as there was a wedding but loved the alternative dining room. The evening meal was excellent and plenty of places for our party of 8 to get together before and after the meal. Thank you to all the staff at the Lee Wood.

    « Refurbished rooms »

Recently refurbished rooms make for a good standard. Breakfast is good and the service first rate. Well located and a stroll from the main shopping and tourist area. Sick of highly variable and often expensive B&B's, this is a welcome change.

    5
    « A great hotel »

This hotel far exceded our expectations. It was spacious, staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was good. Parking was easy. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Buxton. Hotel is close to the town a steep walk but parking in Buxton was quite easy to find. Its a charming town. Nice dining room in a conservatory setting.

  • 3
    « Functional »

The location is good, just a 5 minute stroll down the hill into Buxton. Car park is a bit tight, but it's adequate. Walking in to the hotel, it's like being transported back to the 1970s/80s. The décor is really tired and old fashioned - dark carpets, dark woodwork. Shame because the staircase is a real feature. Room was ok, facing the park, albeit it with a really small window. The bathroom had clearly been refurbished, but the floor was so wonky I was afraid my foot would go through the lino. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, I've had much better elsewhere. Food was not very warm and choice a bit limited. the conservatory is a bit like being in someone's lounge - heavily patterned green carpet, red chairs. All in all, ok for an overnight stop, but attention to detail is lacking and the whole hotel could do with some updating and serious TLC. It's the small things that people notice. A bit expensive for what you get.

    « Birthday Treat »

Short Break for my last birthday, as I did not want any presents. Went on speck for a 2 day stay, only knowing the direction that we were travelling in. What a stroke of luck, to have found such a lovely place, which was perfect for the relaxation I craved. Beautiful surroundings, comfortable rooms, attentive but unobtrusive staff. Excellent menu. My husband & I will definitely be returning.

    « 75th Birthday »

23 adults and 8 children for a dinner and overnight stay. What a brilliant time had by all. All bedrooms were great, clean and completely satisfactory. Every member of staff was so obliging especially with the young children. Would recommend anyone to go and enjoy. You will not be disappointed.

« Great stay in Buxton »

Stayed here for three nights in August lovely area and great Hotel with good facilities, maybe a bit quite in the evenings but only a short walk into the town. Next time we are in the area we will plan on using it again. Breakfast is a feast of very good quality ingredients.

« Excellent one night stay »

We stayed one night at The Lee Wood Hotel on a short break to Buxton, we thought the hotel was excellent, a bit old fashioned in its furnishings but extremely well decorated and clean throughout. We stayed in a deluxe room, which was definitely worth it, the extra room with sofa and chairs was a definite bonus, the bathroom was excellent. The staff were all extremely friendly especially Charlie the barman who helped us with his knowledge of the different gins! Breakfast was also very good and tasty, it makes a nice change to be served our English breakfast instead of getting it cold from a buffet. We would definitely return! Buxton is lovely too!

    « Gem of a hotel »

We booked two nights here as a continuation of our holiday which we spent time earlier in Yorkshire . Buxton and the peak district for us is on way home to Bristol . Having used the hotel as a base for visiting the many attractions locally we found it ideal . The hotel was immaculate and clean being of an older style furnishings and decor in keeping with its history. Our room was spacious and en suite looked recently refurbished. Well appointed. The staff we met were well turned out and smart. Professional and courteous helpfull and pleasant. Breakfast and evening meal spot on....really reccomend this place. Thanks.

    « LEE WOOD HOTEL »

This hotel is in the top three Best Western hotels we have stayed in the location was perfect the staff were excellant the room was first class and the breakfast was also excellant everything was on offer from full english to fish and also a full complement of fruit.would stay and reccomend this hotel to anyone.and well within walking distance to Buxton town centre.

    5
« A good solid hotel with lovely staff »

The lee wood won't win any awards for modern decor, it's a older style hotel and as such has more a more classic look. However, don't let that put you off, we had a lovely room which was very comfortable and clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful and Buxton is a lovely town. We didn't eat (mainly as all of the top trip advisor restaurants are a short walk) but breakfast was very nice and freshly cooked to order. We had a very pleasant stay here and felt very at home.

    4
    « Old-fashioned in the best way! »

I think the hotel, which we had stayed in before, has been refurbished quite recently, but it still had an old-fashioned air about it which we rather appreciated - deep sofas, soft, comfortable beds, soft-spoken, attentive staff. Our room was large, immaculately clean and comfortable, but the bathroom had a few irritating quirks - no room to put anything down, a rather unappealing crazed washbasin, tricky shower. The staff were helpful beyond the call of duty - the manager even rushed out before we departed to buy us a packet of Derbyshire oatcakes, and the receptionist was full of helpful suggestions and instructions for places to visit. The food, although tending to the rather chunky (thick slices of meat, slabs of fish) got better as the days progressed. The breakfast was fine, very flexible and a huge choice, including the aforesaid delicious oatcakes. The only drawback is the position - up a very steep hill that proved quite a challenge on hot days and after an opera performance, particularly for elderly guests. Local taxi-drivers, however, are cheerful, willing, reliable and very reasonable.

    « Disappointing!! »

I was born in Buxton and was really looking forward to going back to stay at a place I remember 60 years ago. We were put in an annex next door to the main hotel. To reach the dinning room it was a bit of a hike. Good job the weather was good, but they did provide an umbrella. The annex is no good for anyone with disabilities. The car park at the annex is a challenge! The main hotel is nice. There is wheel chair access, as there are steps into the main entrance. The dinning room is smart and quite large. Dinner was very good but breakfast was not as good as other Best Westerns I have stayed in. There is a beauty parlour and a Gym but no swimming pool. The grounds are very nice. The main town, including the Opera House is a short walk away.

    « Great hotel »

Stayed on multiple occasions. Great location, only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Buxton. Well kept rooms and very clean. Courteous staff. A well stocked and reasonably priced bar. Breakfasts can be a little hit and miss. Cold buffet is fine but hot food has been a bit average in the past. On last visit I noted the waiting staff complaining behind the back of a customer following a request for an omelette. A little unacceptable. Nonetheless would recommend.

    4
    « Fab time »

We had a fabulous time at the Lee Wood in Buxton. The staff were exceptionally good and important to me had a great sense of humour. Being very poorly humour is at the top of my list as I don't want to be around miserable people. The food was excellent as we're the rooms. Location was good for the local town centre and only £ 3 taxi if you don't want to take your car. Just 30 mins from Bakewell. My only complaints are around safety. 1. Bathroom floor is very slippery so be careful. 2. The silver teapots' handles at breafast get extremely hot and could burn sensitive skin. We will definately be returning here.

    5
« Friendly and exceptionally helpful staff »

Beautiful hotel in a great location in Buxton - very peaceful and yet only a 5-10 minute walk to the centre of the town. The staff were exceptionally helpful, for instance moving a table on to the lawn for us to enjoy the sunny afternoon and posting back to me an item I left behind. Beautiful, comfortable room and good wifi accessible in the room. Would definitely recommend.

    4
    « Unexpected find »

Having booked a Best Western in haste, I was expecting something generic, more a classic chain hotel. This hotel was very different - a fine old renovated large house, very much in keeping with the ethos and atmosphere of Buxton as a town, very good location, friendly staff, helpful in allowing me to print some papers, and an excellent breakfast. Wish I had stayed 2-3 nights in retrospect, rather than one night as our schedule demanded. Room and bathroom perfectly fine. Room rate offered also very reasonable, perhaps because I booked within 24 hours of arrival..

« We paid a lot of money for a bad nights sleep »

We chose this hotel based on the Tripadvisor reviews....I think they've been staying at another hotel to the one we experienced. The front of house staff were cheery enough and showed us round to the annexe where our room was. We were less than impressed on the walk round to the room. You're taken around the back of someone's house in between some garages, pebble dashed walls and untidy grounds into what's felt like someone's back yard. The room, for the price of £149, was underwhelming at best. The bathroom was tired, the bed was on the hard side, room was basic. We went to the opera house in the evening and arrived back about 10:30pm to a sauna. The room was stiflingly hot, central heating on full blast in August?! The poor nights sleep didn't end there as the room next door arrived back an hour later and it felt like we were sharing a room, the walls were like tissue paper. The hotel might want to rethink how these two rooms next to each other are laid out. So we both had a terrible nights sleep and paid a lot of money for the privilege. Breakfast was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all, massively disappointed. I did pass on my feedback on check out to the staff who said she'd talk to our neighbors, meanwhile we're on our way home to catch up on some lost sleep.

    « Perfect location & great service »

We recently held a 'school reunion' with a few friends and stayed at Lee Wood. From the beginning, the service we received on booking, and revising our booking, was excellent. Our room, at the top of the hotel, was spacious and airy. All the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and the food was amazing! Breakfast was freshly cooked to order - none of the usual scrambled egg sitting in a bain-marie under lights for ages - and our evening meal on the Saturday was exceptional. The hotel is in an ideal location, just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Buxton and all its amenities and perfectly situated for getting out into the beautiful countryside. Definitely recommended!

« Really Friendly, Efficient Staff. Lovely Refurbished Room »

Having enjoyed our previous one night stay here, my son and I decided to book again, this time using Tesco Clubcard Vouchers. We'd read reviews that when booking hotels using the vouchers, people had been given lower standard rooms so we were prepared for the worst. Not the case at all here. Our twin room had been recently refurbished, the bathroom was lovely, the rainfall shower fabulous! Rear car park view wasn't great but we weren't in the room long enough to be bothered about that. Staff were really accommodating throughout our brief stay, breakfast was perfect and we were able to leave the car in their car park after we'd checked out, but still had exploring to do. This is definitely our go to place when staying in Buxton. Real family run feel to it.

« Probably the best hotel in Buxton »

I stayed at the Lee Wood recently after a gap of a few years and was struck by how nice it is. Clean, friendly and welcoming. I have stayed in most of Buxton's better hotels and this is in many ways the most pleasant. It has been run by the same family for many years and it shows. The whole place looks cared for, and so are the guests. It is a few minutes walk from the centre, but not far enough to put you off. It also has its own car park, which not all hotels in Buxton do.

« Three day break in Buxton »

A well located hotel only minutes walk from the centre of Buxton. Good free on site car parking which was always available, although in busier times I can imagine you may not get a space, however plenty free parking on road just outside hotel grounds in residential street. Greeted by friendly professional staff and as member of Best Western rewards scheme received a free upgrade of room. Room was decorated in keeping with the period of the hotel and only downside was small single wardrobe, luckily only staying 3 days. Bathroom looked recently renovated, very clean and modern. Excellent choice at breakfast and food very well prepared. Would certainly stay again if in the area. Thank you to all the staff who did a fantastic job to make our stay very pleasant.

    « Buxton's Best »

I stay in Buxton on average 4 - 6 times a year on business and have tried quite a few different places, from smaller guest houses to the 'Big Hitters'. In my opinion the Lee Wood stands quite a way above from the rest. I only stayed on a 'room only' basis (early starts so no breakfast for me) and had meals out with colleagues so can't comment on the food but the room was spacious, comfortable and very well equipped (smart TV was a nice surprise). Also nice was the abundance of power points which is so often a problem with phones, tablets and laptops to charge and is easily overlooked as an amenity. Only problem I have is that it is often hard to book as all the rooms go quickly. Lesson for me to organise my diary earlier and make sure I can get in early as I'll definitely be back and will only be staying elsewhere (reluctantly) if I can't get a room here.

« Excellent hotel in a lovely town »

We stayed here for two nights to enjoy the peak district and see our family who live in Manchester and came out to visit us. The hotel is just out from the centre, but had wonderful grounds, great views, and is an easy and lovely walk down the the parks and town centre. Staff were very friendly and helpful despite their being a full on wedding happening on the day we arrived. Out room was a bit tight on room but otherwise fine and, despite some concern that the wedding would be noisy, in fact we were on the opposite side the the festivities and heard nothing. Breakfast was lovely in the large conservatory room and choice and quality absolutely fine. The Derbyshire Oatcake was a lovely alternative for a hot dish, cooked to order. Vegetarian options were excellent. All in all a very good stay and if we were back in Buxton (and we hope we will be) we'd certainly choose the Lee Woods

« Lovely hotel with friendly staff and great breakfasts. »

I stayed here with my elderly mother after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful. The room was small but was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast had a good variety of buffet and cooked to order food.

    « Lovely night's stay »

We enjoyed a one night stay here because we were going to the theatre on Friday and Saturday. From start to finish the experience was excellent. We arrived before the check-in time, were greeted by a very friendly and helpful receptionist and were able to go straight to our room. We were given an upgrade which was much appreciated - the executive room was spacious and very comfortable. There was a large window, with three opening windows. As it was a warm day, we were grateful for this. The bathroom was spacious with a bath and very good shower. There was also a rubber non-slip mat for the bath. The bedroom carpet was obviously quite new. The bed itself was very comfortable. Everything was spotless, the television was a large flat screen and there was a generous hospitality tray which included coffee, milk, sugar and shortbread biscuits. We ate dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent (real rare steak!) and enjoyed our breakfast next morning. The staff were very cheerful and friendly and the conservatory is attractive and well set out. After an evening out (it is a short walk to the theatre) the walk back up the hill would be a challenge for anyone with walking difficulties, but there is an alternative route which is less steep and very little longer. The Lee Wood is a lovely hotel and I should not hesitate to stay there again.

    « A warm welcome in Buxton »

Four of stayed for three nights in this hotel to enjoy Gilbert and Sullivan operas in Buxton's charming Opera House. The hotel proved an excellent choice, only minutes from the railway station, central and very quiet. Thee food is good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Many of them have worked there for years - which tells its own story.

« Pleasant place to stay. Lovey, helpful staff »

This is a nice old hotel at the edge of the city center. It's easy walking distance to the center of town, Pavillion Gardens, the Opera House and restaurants, shops, etc. What made our experience there especially pleasant though was the staff. We arrived on the last day of the recent heat wave, and like most places in this part of the world, Lee Wood isn't air conditioned. Not only did the receptionist get 2 fans for our room, but also suggested that we switch to another room that did not get afternoon sun and would therefore be cooler. The bartender gave me a nice big bucket of ice, and when we wanted takeout food, the whole staff agreed that we should get Thai, which was very good. Breakfast was good. It's a fine choice if you're staying in Buxton.

« Good combination of old style elegance and updated facilities at the Lee Wood »

We spent four nights at the Lee Wood, using it as a base to explore Buxton and the surrounding area. Our room was quite spacious and the beds were very comfortable. In addition to a desk and chair, there were two easy chairs and a small table - making it very comfortable to sit and read or watch tv. The bathroom had been modernized and had all the usual amenities. Wifi was available throughout the hotel with no problems connecting. Breakfast in the conservatory was a great way to start the day. In addition to a cold buffet, the servers took our order for a hot breakfast cooked to order. Pots of coffee and/or tea were brought immediately and replenished if we asked. We opted for a light supper in the bar a couple of evenings. One evening we had a delicious dinner in the restaurant. All of the staff were professional, helpful and friendly making us feel at home. The hotel is a short walk to the town center and there's parking on site.. We enjoyed our stay at the Lee Wood and recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable place to explore the area.

    « Pleasant stay »

We had room 1 for 2 nights. Although it was clean and well presented it was quite small and too warm, there was a small window which looked into another wall and even though it was open constantly there was no fresh air coming in. If it has been warm weather it would have been very uncomfortable to try to get to sleep. Breakfast was good and staff very friendly. Overall a pleasant stay but I do feel that small rooms with views such as these should be offered at a reduced price.

    « Short stay »

Booked this hotel via tesco vouchers. The room we received although not in the main hotel was excellent. The bed was large has was the bathroom. The 2 chairs in the room were maybe a bit to much along with a sofa. They did make getting round one side of bed a bit awkward if telly was moved round but only a minor problem. The breakfast was lovely , cold selection was fine and the hot breakfast cooked to order. Plenty of parking spots in car park despite there being a wedding on. Only a short walk into the town centre were there are plenty of bars, shops, restaurants and things to see. Excellent base to explore Buxton and also the surrounding countryside

« Nice rooms and quiet location »

Stayed only one night. Room was very well appointed (was upgraded to one of the "executive" rooms) and quiet enough considering it was right by the main road out of Buxton. Nicely located for a walk into town. Didn't use the restaurant or bar in the evening, but breakfast was ok.

    5
    « On business »

The staff were very attentive and made you feel relaxed. The room was immaculate and was cleaned to a high standard. I had steak for one meal which was cooked to perfection, which is not always the case.

    « Great Hotel »

We were a group of 24 classic car enthusiasts away for the weekend together. The hotel was very accommodating putting us together on 3 tables of 8 which was nice as we could all chat. The food was superb every evening and so was breakfast. The rooms were very clean and also very comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we all enjoyed the weekend. Great drives over the Cat & Fiddle and Snake Pass. My probles is I have to find somewhere as good for our next trip!

    « It's fine for a functional stay »

Hard to gauge a star rating really - 3 or 4 depending on what your priorities are. We stayed here for one night and had a room in the annexe. Perfectly clean and comfortable, very friendly service, good breakfast and can't say that anything was really wrong. However, we paid a fair amount for the room and would have expected a bit more. This is not a place to stay for a romantic getaway, it felt a bit tired and old fashioned. The place to us was just a place to stay, rather than a nice place for a break.

    « Great stay »

We had to go to Sheffield so stayed here on the way back. Lovely hotel nice and clean, great staff. Food very good. The hotel has a nice atmosphere which is created by the staff. Not to modern but not shabby either . great position and easy walk into the town and the opera house. Will go back if in the area again.

« Nice, not great Hotel »

This hotel is nice for what was needed - certainly not a luxurious or ultra modern place, but that would probably be expected for the age of the building. The hotel overall has an aged feel to it, that possibly needs dragging into the 20th Century, let alone 21st :) Our bathroom had had a makeover and was modern, the rest of the hotel and room was dated, but clean. The breakfast was decent - full English - and the staff were pleasant and helpful at every request all through the hotel. The cost was a little on the high side, but we were there to see Buxton, not the Best Western Lee Wood Hotel. It's also close to all things Buxton, so if you're happy to stroll a little you're never more than 15-20 mins from all the main sites to see, you can't really go wrong.

    « Snorathon at The Curate's Egg »

My wife and I needed a break after the stress of recently moving house. We decided to leave all the un-emptied boxes and visit Buxton and used our Tesco vouchers to visit The Lee Wood. Now, one thing I have to say is 'I snore', 'I snore very badly', enough for a sleep clinic to tell me I could snore for Britain. At home I sleep in the east wing, my wife in the west. Well .... at different ends of the house!! You might guess that sharing a room didn't go down well and I had to book a second room for two of the four we stayed. The staff were very understanding. The Lee Wood is a very well run hotel and I would certainly return. The beds are top quality Hypnos (the ones Lenny Henry raves about in the Premier Inn adverts), they are brilliant. If you do end up sharing, you can bounce up and down on one side and the other doesn't follow. So, that's the good part of the Curate's Egg. The other part is dinner. The management insist on offering choice between a rather short, expensive, unimaginative a la cart or bar food. No table d'hote is available. After the first night we went into town and found a brilliant Italian eatery (St Marlo) and the following night an equally good French offering (The Brasserie). We used each twice, meals for two at each about fifty quid and well wort it. Staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful, if there's a wedding on a Saturday night it can be disturbing but the one we experienced finished at 12.00, so not too bad and the guests were quiet going to bed. One unusual thing abut the guests was that on the day of the wedding all the women come down to breckies in their fluffy slippers and nighties. Very strange. Other points, I couldn't get the WiFi to work for my lap top and the staff couldn't help either though I think I missed the lad who might have helped. We went to see Ken Dodd (he's too old now!!) and after having had a very early dinner and returning to the hotel hungry we ordered a sandwich which, when it arrived was very poor. They did deduct the charge from the bill. Yes, if I go back to Buxton I would return to the Lee Wood ... and book two rooms!! I was a hotelier for forty years and used to own a Best Western Hotel.

    « A lovely hotel »

We booked this hotel due to its rating on the site. I wasn't disappointed. We had a room at the front of the hotel which looks out over a bowling green and the gardens. It is also shielded from the road noise allowing us to leave the window open all night. The room was clean and nice with a good bed (not to my wife's liking though) The bar is pleasant and has a good range of gins (very much to my wife's liking) The breakfast was good with a choice of cooked or continental breakfast and a good range of juices. The hotel is traditionally decorated and clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only negative would be that the hotel is relatively expensive .

« One of the better Best Westerns »

In the area on business, not usually a fan of BW but this particular hotel had been recommended by one of my colleagues, and I will definitely look to stay here again in the future. Ideally situated close to the centre of Buxton, rooms clean and comfortable, food in the restaurant was quite good and the breakfast was of a similar quality.

    « May 2016 »

Good location. Hotel is quiet except for a humming overnight. Had a bar meal which was excellent, but they had run out of draught ale which was a shame. Only provide bottles. As usual room very clean indeed and spacious, overlooking the bowling green. Would stay here again but after asking for a price for a future visit from the reception, I would suggest you obtain a price via the internet as this would be much cheaper.

    « Oh so that's what it's really like!! »

After a very negative experience(see previous review from 25th Feb) we went back to take them up on their offer of a free stay. The room was beautiful, the bed comfortable & the experience was perfect. Also I was right about getting a room on the 1st floor, it is a whole world of difference. Now I can see why it got such good reviews & am happy to endorse them. We had a wonderful stay & I am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy the Hotel at it's best.

    « Overpriced »

Very quiet and nice view if you are lucky enough to get a room at the front of the hotel. However we had to change rooms as the room allocated to us was very dark and basic. Bleach stains on carpet and plastic cups covered in plastic bags in bathroom. This was also the case in the upgraded room. The patio outside was grubby showing exposed wiring hanging around the doors and in desperate need of weeding. Food very nice, but wouldn't stay there again.

« Helpful staff and a lovely old hotel »

Recently stayed for the second time and as they were busy, I had to have a small room, but that didn't spoil my overall enjoyment. Reception is at the back of the hotel, with lovely gardens, if you have a room at the front, you may get some traffic noise. Great food served in a light airy restaurant over looking the gardens and a good range of beers in the bar. All the staff were very helpful.

    « Peace and tranquility »

I stayed at the Lee wood Best Western hotel for 3 out of the 4 weeks in march and iv got to say it was one of the most peaceful and homely stays i have had whilst working away. The food is too notch and has plenty to offer and the staff go above and beyond to make sure all your personal needs are catered for. I enjoyed my stay that much that im hoping in the summer time i can take my wife for a weekend of bliss without the children in tow (although i love them to bits, a bit of 'us' time spent in this hotel sounds like heaven!!!) Definately recommend to anybody, Spot on!!

    « Solo travellers beware »

This hotel pulled a nasty trick on me typical of that suffered by solo travellers at the hands of unscrupulous hotel staff. I had booked a double room for single occupancy as I was staying some time there to view property in the area. The reception staff on check-in directed me to my room which turned out to be a small single room. Did they think I wouldn't notice? When I came fuming back down they told me they were fully booked and I could not have a double room until the next day so I could not unpack properly until the next day when I moved to the new room which was fine. At the end of my stay on check-out I discovered they had charged me £150 for the night in the single room and once again I had to make my feelings known. Management was consulted and I was offered a £50 reduction which I accepted. This could have been so different if they had come clean up front and contacted me either beforehand or on arrival to say "we're terribly sorry but we're fully booked and we've had to put you in our single room for the first night but we'll knock £50 off your bill. Is that all right?" I would have agreed and thought at least they have been honest and upfront. As it was it was unpleasantness at the start and again at the end. Customers will tolerate all sorts of mistakes if staff are honest and communicate properly. They fell down in both respects. Training needed. I won't stay there again.

« Excellent service in a lovely hotel »

This was our second stay at the hotel and we were delighted with all aspects of the experience. We were welcomed warmly and shown to our room in the annexe which was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was cooked to order and could not be faulted. We enjoyed an excellent meal in the restaurant. Service was excellent and staff were both professional and friendly.

    « Delightful »

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights recently and our expectations were exceeded. This is a lovely hotel (in the old Victorian style) just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Buxton. We were given an excellent room on the first floor - very clean and comfortable. The food was fanatastic - on the first night we ate in the restaurant and the quality was exceptional. On the second night (after a strenuous days hiking) we decided to eat from the bar menu - this too was great as after a hard day on the fells, a good hearty meal was required and that is exactly what we got. The breakfasts were excellent too with lots of choice. All the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite. I would like to give a special mention mention to one of the ladies on reception (I think her name was Louise but I could be wrong - sorry) who very kindly lent us a flask to take on our walk as we had forgotten ours. This was a very kind gesture and it's little things like that make a great stay special. Thanks again. I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and if we come back to the area sometime in the future, I know where we'll be staying.

    « Wedding »

Stayed at the Lee Wood on the Sat night of my Nephew's wedding as the reception was held there. I asked on the day if I could check in early - unfortunately the previous guests were still in the rooms. As soon as they were free housekeeping was in and they turned the rooms round in no time at all letting us get in as early as possible. The rooms were comfortable, in great condition and spotlessly clean. The staff were without exception helpful and all did their very best to make our stay special. I would highly recommend the Lee Wood to anyone.

« Staff who treat you like family! »

I recently attended my friends wedding at this hotel and I was overwhelmed by the kindness and attentiveness of the staff. The food was fabulous and the rooms were spacious. The staff were so excited about the wedding, they took care of every detail and they made my friend, the bride, feel at ease. I totally recommend this hotel for any celebration. It's perfectly located, within walking distance of Buxton high street. You couldn't ask for more.

The staff were without exception..friendly, efficient and caring, we all felt very welcome and they went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed, nothing was too much trouble and the wedding? ... What can I say... Amazing...The food was fantastic and again the fantastic team that looked after us all. Thankyou Lee Wood Hotel, and every single member of staff, you are a very special team!! Would highly recommend a stay here. Thankyou !

    « Excellent stay »

Just returned from a three night stay at the Lee Wood. The staff were wonderful - from reception, waiting staff and cleaning staff. They couldn't do enough for us. We were allocated an exec room - room number 33 at the front of the hotel with great views. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had breakfast in the pleasant conservatory on the first morning and then the restaurant the next two mornings due to a wedding using the conservatory. The breakfast was excellent. Good quality and great choice. Waiting staff were excellent too. Its in a good location and just minutes from the opera house and town centre. We had no problems parking though the carpark can be tight for 4x4s. If you're a light sleeper take some ear plugs as we were woken by the pensioners talking loudly next door at 5.30am. There is nothing I can say negative about the place other than the fact that we both thought it was over priced. It cost £450 for three nights b and b for 2. For this I would have expected it to have been a little more luxurious as the room we were in was nothing out of the ordinary. We both agreed that around £90- £100 a night would have been about right However we had a great time and a pleasant stay.

    « Great 3 Night Stay »

I came to Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton for a three night stay with nine friends who were at Domestic Science College in Leicester 54 years ago. We try to have a reunion each year and usually stay in a hotel. The staff at Lee Wood could not have been more welcoming. We were given a big round table and the attention by the waiters was excellent, very helpful and cheerful. The food both at breakfast and the two evening meals were beautifully cooked with a great choice. Being retired Home Economics Teachers we are most critical but could not fault the qualiy of all the meals Our rooms were all of very high standard and spacious. We would certainly recommend this hotel to travellers who want to visit Buxton and the beautiful countryside.

« Comfortable, excellent service and lovely food »

Stayed here recently with a group of friends. Our room overlooked the conservatory and was very light and spacious (number 17). A wedding party in the conservatory had a disco on Saturday night which we could hear quite clearly but at midnight it stopped and there was no disturbance whatsoever afterwards. A very comfortable bed and the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent and the service friendly and lighthearted.

« Our two night stay »

The Hotel is well placed for walking into Buxton our room had a view over a bowling green, the room was spacious as was the en-suite both were very clean, the staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them.Breakfast was enjoyable with a good choice of cold and cooked food, evening meals were excellent both being eaten in a light and airey dinning room waitress and bar staff were very attentive to your needs. On our second night a new Smart 42" television had been installed during the day it made viewing much more enjoyable all told our two night stay was one of the best we have had.

    « 2 day stay + Opers house »

Lovely old building in a good location, but .. but .. but .. ROOM 18. Single glazing and by a main road to Manchester so traffic noise for what seemed all night. The second night was even worse ... as well as the road noise, the night porter was moving/banging things around "heavy furniture ??" below our bedroom into a storeroom. I actually think he knew what he was doing because at 3.15 am he looked up to our bedroom window to see two faces staring down at him in utter disbelief. After experiencing this our other comments hardly seem to matter.

« Five stars, earned by fantastic staff »

Set a few minutes walk from the train station this hotel is perfectly placed, it's a little faded but very clean and tidy, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food is much better than you might expect and we'll worth staying for dinner. Why five stars? The staff were wonderful, great friendly service and which does them credit, thanks for a lovely stay.

« Lee Wood Hotel, Buxton »

We stayed here last year for one night in order to attend the Big Session Folk Festival and enjoyed our stay very much so booked again this year. Last year, we had a lovely room in the annex but this time we were in the main building and the room was large and, again, very nice. The excellent breakfast was as good as last time and I can recommend the Derbyshire oatcake with good, lean bacon and cheese after the buffet selection. Very efficient and pleasant staff.

« Long weekend for a cousins get together. »

Have just had a delightful few days at The Lee Wood hotel. We had a fabulous time enjoying the area, the food and the general friendliness of the hotel. We ate in every night and the food was excellent. Of course I have to say our meals we're enhanced by our waiter Charles. He certainly looked after us very well. The hotel was very clean and tidy, rooms very comfortable. I would certainly recommend this hotel. Ok so if I was being picky maybe the decor could do with an update. But that's a concern more than a criticism. Thank you Lee Wood you helped make our family reunion a great success.

We ate in the hotel the 1st night, the food was delicious but slightly expensive, there are lots of restaurants in Buxton to choose from. The hotel was about a 15 minute walk from Buxton town centre, which was an interesting place to look around. The hotel was situated very conveniently for walks across the Peak District.

Stayed here one night on way to London from the north. A very pleasant and well run hotel. Super friendly staff. Thanks particularly to Eleanor in the restaurant. She made us feel so much at home at dinner and breakfast. All other staff were also very helpful and friendly. Nice size room; good sleep; comfortable bed; well heated; up to date bathroom; great view over the bowling green.

    « Excellent overall »

We stayed for a long weekend with our classic car club. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a king sized bed and quite spacious. The en suite had a powerful shower over the bath and it was all very modern. The daily housekeeping did an excellent job and also replenished the bottled water and hospitality tray. The three course evening meal and breakfasts were amazing and nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly staff. There was always somebody available if you wanted to ask anything. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to friends.

« Overall an excellent hoyel where friendly staff work in unison. »

Spent the weekend at this hotel which is only an eight minute walk from the centre of Buxton. Cannot speak highly enough of the staff some of whom have been there for a number of years. Breakfasts excellent, piping hot and the chef really knows hoe to poach eggs.A very pleasant stay.

    « Birthday treat! »

I used to stay at the Lee Wood many moons ago with my parents who loved it - as do I: it has retained its charm and quality; the staff team are friendly and professional; the food is exquisite; and the rooms are warm, clean and comfortable. I went for dinner and an overnight stay last Wednesday - meeting three friends from Manchester one of whom was celebrating her birthday. An overnight stay was her surprise and she was delighted! We had a fabulous meal and too many after-dinner drinks. Breakfast was scrumptious and all-in-all our 15 hour stay was worth every penny.

« Best hotel in Buxton »

I stay regularly at this hotel and it's now home from home. Every room is of a good quality, some better than others. The suites and executive rooms are particularly nice. Although quite often quiet, the food in the restaurant is fabulous. The wine is quite pricey though. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Decor is traditional but of a high standard. A nice touch is the shortbread biscuits and Buxton water.

« Friendly Staff, Good Location »

I booked the Lee Wood because it was a short walk from the station, although the walk seemed shorter on the way back as the hotel is at the top of a steep hill. The staff are friendly and the rooms clean and well appointed if a little gloomy. The hotel restaurant has a wonderful view over the valley but was suspiciously quiet when I was there. The food tastes great but is a triumph of style over quantity. I think when you pay eight quid for a starter you expect a little more that one pigeon breast, four matchsticks of apple and four sugar cube sized pieces of beetroot. My main course of sea bass followed the same format and I would have loved more than three sprigs of samphire. Breakfast was also a little disappointing at £13.50 as my tiny spoonful of scrambled eggs was served on a plate that was so hot that it was still cooking. The Lee Wood is a nice place to stay but I would recommend eating in one of the restaurants in Buxton where you can stuff yourself to your hearts content and then walk it off by climbing the hill back to the hotel.

« food wonderful, staff attentive, decor and cold let it down »

The food was really good. The evening meal albeit a little pricey was very nice and well presented. The breakfast was plentiful and there was a great choice. Sadly the evening meal was spoilt by how cold the room was. Not over warm in the morning for breakfast The bedroom has large cobwebs and we never found the spider. The trick to keep warm is to fold the long floor length curtains onto the window sills. They hang in front of the radiator, The windows are the old sash type. And needed adjustment to fit so the draft was not felt in the room Limited car parking we were lucky and able to find a spot Staff were very nice. The lady in the restaurant was helpful to offered fan heater to get us warm. Reception was pleasant. Sadly the overall rate reflects this. I would use this again if I was in the area. Felt it over priced for what it was

« two night stay over Easter »

Two night stay over the Easter weekend. Arrived on the Saturday the day after Good Friday. Checking in was a breeze. We were on the top floor of this smallish hotel around 40 rooms [I think] Decided to walk up the broad stairway instead of using the lift. The hall and the sairway is carpeted and on each floor stand Grandfather clocks. Shame non of them are working they are just there for decorations purposes. Got to our room 300 and something can't remember now. It was bright and airy and spotlessly clean. King size bed flat screen tv, the usual tea and coffee facilities. Bathroom had vanity unit. One problem here was the plug would not lift up when puched down I had to get my hand behind the unit to bush the rod back up with my hand. A shower over the bath and it was quite a decent size bath. At breakfast we were greeted and shown to our table very efficiently asked if we wanted tea or coffee and told where the cerial, orange juice etc was and informed a member of staff will come to our table and take our order for the main Breakfast. Full English or other options which I did not take much notice of as I always like a full English but I seem to remember there was salmon and some other hot breakfast. The food was served promptly after our cerial juice etc. The hotel has a small gym so decided to have a workout it was fine as me and my other half plus a friend were the only ones in. One treadmill. a rower an abb machine some exercise bikes. free weights medicine bals and aweights machine. All the equipment looked relatively new. The gym was also clean and well maintained. Forgot to add our room had a safe free of charge a alarm clock and the bed was very comfortable. It's the first time I have stayed at a best Western hotel and if they are all this clean with very polite staff I would stay at another B.W. I can highly recommend this hotel. PS free wi fi.

This is our second stay in the Lee Wood Hotel and if we are in this area again we will definitely return. The hotel is in an excellent location. Rooms are very clean and tidy with a lovely comfortable bed. All of the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and do everything to ensure you have a pleasant stay. The breakfast is the best I have had and is lovely sitting in the conservatory. Look forward to visiting again in the near future

Stayed here for a few days after our wedding for some rest and relaxation. Room was clean and a good size. Fantastic bath to stretch out in. Staff were brilliant! Really friendly and helpful. Bar offers a great selection of drinks and the food in the restaurant is great. Only issue was getting up in time for breakfast! Overall a lovely, relaxing stay.

« Nice hotel in a Nice Place »

Enjoyed being at this hotel. Tremendous rooms - out of the ordinary at a reasonable price - we were upgraded to a suite! Friendly staff. Buxton is anice tow with a certain olde world charm, although some key sites were being restored when we were there.

« Traditional Buxton looking hotel with great food. »

Went with a large group of people. The rooms were comfortable with Stag Minstrel furniture and refurbished en-suite with bath. Staff were very obliging, especially in the restaurant as nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is only 8 minutes walk to the Opera House Theatre, which is worth a visit as it must be one of the oldest and is beautiful inside. Was impressed with the quality and quantity of the food being served and the staff dealt with a large group really well. Would go back to this family owned hotel, marketed by Best Western again. Is only 10 minutes walk from the town centre and there is plenty of free car parking at the hotel and in the roads next to the hotel.

« attentive staff in restaurant »

Mother's day lunch with several diners having multiple food sensitivities. The staff were attentive to our needs and able to check all the required possible allergens and advise accordingly. The chef even managed to run up a"bread and butter pudding" which was remarkable considering the dairy, egg and other allergies and another diner on another table was gluten intolerant got the same pud. food good and made a good occasion by the attentiveness of the staff. They also had a small treasure hunt for the young children and a "craft table" so 2yr old and 9 yr old and parents/grandparents were entertained

    « I like this hotel a lot. »

I have stayed here on business 4 times. It has never disappointed. Good service, good food, comfortable bedrooms and a gym. The gym is okay but could do with a bit more kit to make it better but it is okay for hotel use. The staff are very good and helpful. They always give me an upgrade if available. The other thing I like is they serve your breakfast. You can have as much as you want and it's always cooked fresh.

« Nice hotel, disappointing room but we're going back so we'll see!! »

Lovely looking hotel with very friendly & accommodating staff so we expected a nice overnight break. Room wasn't ready but the complimentary coffee while waiting was nice. Booked an executive view room and was given room 29. Fair to say there is a pleasant view but the windows on the 2nd floor are small so give up any idea of sitting in the armchair & enjoying the view with a drink. We had to keep the curtains closed for the duration because the window, despite being a modern one, didn't close properly and it was blowing a gale outside. There were a couple of other niggles like the telly not being the spec for the room we had paid for & the bathroom a bit cobwebby in places but it was pleasant & cozy. However I had a rotten nights sleep, the bed seemed to slope & in the morning my back was killing me as I found out why. There was a castor missing from one corner. Now stuff happens, but as I put all these bits together I did start to feel the room was a bit shoddy and, despite the lovely breakfast, the experience left a bit of a sour taste. However they responded to my complaint with the offer of a free night (after I suggested it!!) and the promise of an upgrade from the standard room if they have availability. So we'll see if our experience can finally match up to the excellent reviews of others. Hope so because its just the right distance for a night away & I had hoped we'd found a gem!!

    « A pleasant two days »

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as a base for some Peak District walking. I frequently stay at BW hotels and one of the things I like is the way many of the hotels are located in old or historical buildings. This makes the stay more interesting in that the hotel is usually more visually appealing as well as having an historical interest. The downside is that sometimes the original rooms don't lend themselves to being converted to hotel rooms. Room 14 (where we stayed) was a case in point. BW tried to market it as an upgraded room but the room wasn't really big enough for the additional chairs and table that were shoe horned in. The net result was that the room felt somewhat cramped. Don't get me wrong - the room was great but it could have done with losing some furniture. The customer service was great. My wife feels the cold so we asked for the room to be made warm before we arrived - and warm it was - good job whoever put the fan heater on! Breakfast was great as well. Coffee appeared as if by magic. Location is good - only 5 minutes pleasant walking to the Opera House and the Pavilion Gardens. One negative, and it is a personal thing, is that I found the bed too hard. But I will be back but may ask for a room with softer bed.

« Amazing staff and great hotel »

The hotel itself, the food and the staff were all brilliant. Although we booked separately there ended up being a group of us. The restaurant and reception staff were so accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The location is perfect, its a 10 minute walk to the train station and not much further in to the town.

    « Good choice »

All in all a good hotel. Stayed for work. The decor is not really to my taste, very old fashioned but that doesn't mean it's wrong. It's just not for me. I had room 5 which was big, clean and had everything you'd want. Hairdryer, iron etc. The only thing I didn't like about the room was the huge clear window in the bathroom which isn't frosted and overlooks an old peoples home. There is a blind which you have to keep shut the whole time in there....maybe you could frost the lower half?!? At least then people couldn't see you on the toilet. Food was good. A little slow but worth the wait. Conservatory area for dinner was a tad cold and the food a bit on the expensive side. Bar grub was cheaper and very tasty. Staff were excellent! Very friendly and helpful. All in all a good stay. Although not the most exciting hotel I've stayed in I would use it again if in the area.

    « Valentine's meal 2016 »

We visited the Leewood Hotel last Valentine's Day for a meal. That was fantastic. This year we thought that we would visit the hotel again. They didn't fail with excellent waiter service and the food was as expected, awesome. They served up to us a 6 course meal starting with goats cheese, then salmon, pink grapefruit sorbet then melt in your mouth steak. Desert came as a fondue to share. Fudge, strawberries, marshmallows, Turkish delight, meringues and shortbread. Tea or coffee with chocolates. Just simply couldn't have eaten anything else. The hotel then had a film to end the night. Just simply fantastic. A real worthwhile 30minute trip. I give 5 stars for all of the staff and the food.

« Service above and beyond. Felt so looked after. »

From start to finish and without exception, the staff at this lovely hotel went out of their way to make our two night stay as comfortable as possible and nothing was too much for them. We were given a lovely room (great power showers btw!!) and the breakfast conservatory room was a lovely place to linger over a relaxing breakfast even in the pouring rain. It was so calm and relaxing and THANK YOU for not succumbing to this seeming need to have annoying music playing at breakfast - long may that continue. But what set this hotel apart was their attitude to customer service and the customer experience. Unfortunately I was not feeling great during my short stay due to pregnancy-related sickness. I had both male and female staff variously offer to go out and get me gaviscon (this was quite late one evening), bringing me glasses of cold milk, tomato juice (whatever the current 'need' was) and as they had run out of fresh oranges by the late time we got down to breakfast the first morning, the manager that day, Rebecca, without being asked, made a personal detour to the local Sainsburys before her 7am shift began to pick up some fresh oranges to ensure they had some for my second breakfast. Touches like that (admittedly, make me sound worse than J-Lo for diva-needs, it was a particularly bad weekend for sickness!) made this place exceptional. Truly one of the nicest hotel experiences in this country for a while. Location for walking into Buxton was super. A short walk to some lovely tea rooms, cafes, pubs and restaurants and short drive away from lovely Bakewell. Free wi-fi. Highly recommended.

« Old fashioned hotel - very pleasant »

Was a little anxious when booking this as have had some bad experiences in the past with Best Western hotels, however was pleasantly surprised with the Lee Wood. An older building reasonably well maintained from the exterior. Comfortable and warm interior and generous rooms, some with stunning views of Buxton and its impressive 'Dome'. As to be expected from older hotels there are all the usual signs of age, and the changing vagiaries of hotel health and safety regs (fire doors etc. where they would not have been originally when the place was built). One or two quirks like ultra modern light fittings totally unsuited to the property. Just a couple of minor things that cause a less than perfect score. I had booked two luxury rooms, but one room was significantly less 'luxury' than the other - just as well we were travelling with friends other wise there could have been an upset! Secondly the floor in our particular bathroom sloped quite steeply and was quite polished which could be disconcerting to someone not too steady on their feet. Oh and one of our party was a smoker and reported that there was no smoking shelter with staff insisting that smokers moved well away from the front porch even though it was poring with rain.

    « Early Feb 2016 »

I've stayed in hotels up and down the country over the years in connection with business. Many of them were actually quite mediocre. I was impressed with Lee Wood and hope to stay there again soon. Within walking distance of the Opera House it was ideally situated and I have no problem commending all the staff. Had a really excellent fillet steak on Monday evening in the restaurant. The best I have had for years. Buxton is for hardy types - I don't think I have ever been there when it has been warm!

    5
    « Elegant and unpretentious »

The Lee Wood has been a familiar part of the Buxton scene for years, and a bit like an old familiar friend it's food credentials are taken for granted and not extolled as widely as some newcomer on the block. On a cold Wednesday night and close to last order time our small party if 3 sat to dine in the impressive expanse of the glass conservatory All of us opted for the scallops and black pudding, and they were cooked to perfection, and this unusual combination really worked I had chosen the chicken, which sat on a bed of shaped potato and was succulent and tasty, no dry overlooked bird here Another colleague chose the classic Fillet steak cooked medium rare, and it was juicy and perfectly cooked...I know I could not resist tasting a piece My other colleague chose rack of lamb, cooked pink, and leaving nothing to chance ate it all telling us it was delicious We enjoyed it with a fairly priced Rioja Crianza a fine example of these smoother softer Spanish reds None of us were able to manage a dessert, although one of our party told us of a chocolate dessert on the menu that they had previously tried a chocolate pudding with a melting centre. Something for another day then The service was attentive, and unpretentious, the food lay on the plate with the art of the chef clearly demonstrated and it was superb So maybe this familiar venue needs its regulars to remember it, and for those not familiar it's a worthy night out for good food

We booked this hotel for a work event - a 2 day conference really with 14 people. The delegate rate was very good and everything worked so well. Everyone was happy with their rooms, the staff were so lovely, genuinely lovely and gave us great service. The quality of the food was excellent, really excellent. We booked private dining in the evening and it was in a very homely private room, very nice indeed. All conference members really enjoyed the Lee Wood and I hope they all review it positively, the hotel and the staff deserve it. Would definitely like to return.

« We would definitely return »

Went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived late on the Friday night (11pm). Check in was easy and very friendly. We dumped our bags and headed to the bar. Friday nights are not busy at this hotel, and so we were served by the night duty manager. Minor issue here with bar prices. £4.90 for a 125ml glass of wine is very steep - 125ml is also a ridiculously small glass. Most establishments offer a choice of 175 or 250ml. Went to bed and found the bathroom fan ran for a very long time after the light was turned off and the bearings were worn out so it was ultra noisy. Eventually had to call the duty manager, who tried to fix things and then moved us to an adjacent room. This could have happened to anyone at any time, and although it was inconvenient it was dealt with professionally and quickly. We stayed for 2 nights, and the hotel was much busier on the Saturday. What struck us was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. This is hard to get right - I dislike with passion the 'have a nice day' type of mindless remark made in many fast-food outlets. The staff here were genuinely being friendly but were certainly not overbearing. We had cooked breakfast on both mornings, and it is not to be missed. Very good service with smiles, and very good food - bacon was excellent and the local sausage superb. The rooms were clean and well equipped. The hotel is quite old, so expect a few squeeky floor boards and sloping floors, but it has nice character. Very well positioned for walking into Buxton (three minutes), as we did to eat on Saturday night. Hotel parking is free but not plentiful. Street parking is easily come by on the roads at the front and rear.

Our stay at the hotel was excellent from the moment we arrived until we left. The staff were very welcoming and the Double room was spacious, clean and well appointed. There were 2 lovely arm chairs and a very comfortable settee as well as a King size bed. After a good nights sleep we had a lovely breakfast . The choice of food and beverages was excellent ., and the staff were very friendly and efficient. We have visited a lot of hotels all over the world and The Lee Wood is amongst the top of the list and we will definitely be looking to stay again in the future.

    « A delightful surprise »

I usually try to avoid booking in big name chain hotels as they tend to be quite bland and often over priced. So I was delightfully surprised to find the "Best Western" Lee Wood hotel to be neither of those. My room was cosy, the bathroom facilities modern and well thought out, all the staff were tremendously helpful, and the restaurant service well above the norm.

    « Could do better »

The good thing about this hotel is the building. The grandeur of the stair case the grandfather clocks. The windows. The staff were helpful and polite. My room was tired the curtains had come away from the rails so sagged in the middle. The bed sagged at one side - the mattress needed replacing. However the room was spotless. I stayed in room 23 - which is above the hotel plant. If you leave the window open be prepared for a hum of machinery all night. I was there in January and the hotel was lacking atmosphere- but in fairness that was more to do with a lack of guests rather than anything else. The roast beef was nice and the wine acceptable. A tad expensive for what it was but not shockingly so! Of course the surrounding area is stunning.

    « Concert visit »

Made a reservation at Lee Wood as we were attending a concert at Buxton Opera House. The hotel is within 5 minutes walk of the opera house. It is an old, well-established hotel and provides everything required for a comfortable stop-over. Rooms were clean and tidy and very well maintained. The breakfast provided in the restaurant was plentiful and well-cooked. We would happily stay there again and can recommend it should you find yourself visiting Buxton. The concert was good too!

« Pretty good hotel and convenient stay »

I struggled to find a suitable hotel from TripAdvisor for a one night stay in December. There were plenty of expensive guest houses or lodges but for just a few hours I didn't really need facilities. This seemed like a good value choice and overall it delivered. The back of the hotel faces the road so it's not quite as welcoming as the pictures suggest but the outlook from the 'front' is really beautiful. It seems we got upgraded because we had an enormous room with sitting area, on the corner. If we'd stayed 2 or 3 days we'd have been able to take advantage of this and enjoyed this room. Facilities in the room itself were very good. Huge comfortable bed, Nespresso machine, Great sitting area as I said. The bathroom however wasn't great. It was a bath over shower, which isn't unusual for an old hotel but the floor was linoleum and was super slippy, as well as a sloping floor. I ended up using the rubber bath mat on the floor!!This is probably only an issue in this room. Breakfast was pretty good, through we only had continental. I was asked what hot food I required....six times! Not sure I can cite this as a negative :-) I might use this again if it offered similar value.

    « New Year's Eve event »

The New Year's Eve event at Lee Wood was an excellent experience. The hotel was as good as any in which I've stayed, the Gala Dinner and celebrations were very good. The food was excellent as was the service and when one of our party found her chosen meal not at all to her liking an alternative was offered and provided with absolutely no hesitation or delay. Particular praise shouldgo to Rebecca, the event organiser, who went manyy extra miles to ensuer that it was an enjoyable experience for everyone. This was our second New Year's Eve at the Lee Wood, we enjoyed the 2014 one enough to return and this one was even better.

    « Nice Hotel »

A hotel will an immense amount of character, located a short walking distance from the centre of Buxton. We received a warm welcome from the staff upon arrival and check in was a breeze. We had a good size room on the top floor with views over the Dales, supplied with tea, coffee, biscuits and usual showering accoutrements. Very comfortable bed. Free wi-fi was a bonus. The floorboards were a bit creaky but that would be expected in such a grand old building. Wonderful furniture in the common areas. Buxton is a fantastic place to stay for a few nights, with good bars, restaurants and historical sights, as well as the stunning Dales. We would look to use the Lee Wood Hotel again if in the area and would recommend to our friends.

    « Great service »

We have just returned from a two night stay here. The hotel is very well located for walking round Buxton and was an ideal base for our trip to visit family staying close by. All the staff were very helpful and obliging and our room was large and comfortable and clean. There was a problem getting the room safe to work but we were offered the option of using the hotel safe, which we didn't feel we needed. The style of furnishings is "traditional" rather than contemporary but seemed well maintained. We only used the conservatory/dining room for breakfast and the only slight criticism is that it was on the cool side. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area. (The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were very good)

Stayed here mid-December for 2 nights and was not disappointed. We had an excellent small suite (room 6) and it was very well appointed and comfortable. The staff were all extremely good and we had no problems at all. All the food was good and well served. Our thanks to the hotel and we would return to the same hotel if we were to stay in Buxton again.

« Old fashioned values makes this a great little hotel. »

Just back from 2 nights bed and breakfast at the Lee Wood. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large room with a very large bed, 3 piece suite and a good size TV. Our room was clean and warm on arrival and kept clean and well supplied during our stay. The steps are a little daunting to get in the hotel, but a ramp is available to a door next to the bar, but not made obvious from the car park. There is a lift once inside. Enjoyed a good freshly cooked breakfast served on a hot plate, although the restaurant did have a morning chill about the room.

    « Customer care at it's best »

It's hard to find this sort of standard these days and it was a pleasure for all of my team, and my boss, to enjoy a superb dinner in lovely surroundings with attentive staff, followed by a good night's sleep in spotless, well equipped and comfortable rooms. A great choice breakfast fayre topped off the visit. We are all happy and chilled out customers! A couple of niggles were swiftly and efficiently dealt with, but account for the loss of 1 star as they could have been avoided, for example having to wait 20 minutes for bar service because 'the computer had gone down'.......!! We all adored new receptionist John, particularly his phone calls to every room enquiring as to whether everything was ok. But he needs to know that Room 40 is definitely not on the second floor, one of our party was sent upstairs twice before he found it in the Annexe! Thoroughly recommend this venue for business or pleasure.

    « Lovely friendly hotel »

Just spent a night with 6 friends for a 50th birthday and I just want to say what a lovely friendly hotel. On arrival we was met by lovely reception staff that let us access a friends room before they arrived to put up birthday banners and balloons . The bar staff where all friendly even in the evening when the bar was very busy due to a Xmas party they always had a smile for you. Cleaning staff again very polite and friendly too in fact every member of staff would say hello every time you passed by . The rooms where very clean . Breakfast was lovely and plenty of it . Overall this hotel is a lovely traditional friendly hotel and I will defiantly stay there again

    « Excellent Hotel »

Recently returned from our sixth visit to this excellent hotel. We always look forward to time spent here, and once again were not disappointed. Guests are sure of a warm welcome and spacious and warm accommodation. The staff are all very friendly and instantly make you feel at home. As always the choice and standard of the food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was first class. We are already looking forward to our next visit at the end of the year.

    « Big Surprise »

I have been in a Best Western hotel before and expected the Lee Wood to be forgettable too. Not so, the room was spacious, quiet, clean, well stocked, well equipped with technical essentials. There was a long tub with shower which provided plenty of hot water. The property is located in a well-to-do residential area and only a 10-minute walk from the center of town, train station and buses. The breakfast was the best I had in England. Fruits, cereals, juices, croissants, fresh breads, sausages, bacon, eggs, yoghurt, etcetera. There was an additional menu from which you could order Eggs Benedict, kippers, lightly smoked cod poached in milk among other delights. Fabulous! For dinner, there is a chef to prepare Rare Duck Breast with Buttered Sampfire. I liked the Lee Wood well enough to ask if I could stay longer. No surprise when I found the hotel was booked up.

« Refurb room in the annexe »

Hotel was easy to find, a nice old building slightly uphill out of town - just far enough away to be a little secluded. The car park was full but we were able to park on Park Road which was quiet and unrestricted on a Saturday evening. Check in was swift, and we were shown to our room in the annexe where we discovered that there were parking spaces immediately outside. I had read that the main building can be a little noisy when there is a function taking place so was pleased to be in this self contained unit. The room was spacious and clean, with a large bed and a sofa facing the TV, and pristine bathroom (albeit with a very squeaky floor!). A nice view from the window over the restaurant and gardens. It's about a ten minute pleasant stroll down into town via Park Road but of course, a ten minute walk uphill on the way back that requires a little more exertion! A quiet nice ensued, away from any road noise and only marred by a slight chill in the room as there is no user controlled heating. I mentioned this on check out, and was advised that the heating system was still set up for summer and in transitional times it can be a little nippy. In fairness, it was a clear night and the hotel guide did advise that portable heaters were available from reception but we decided to forego this option due to the late hour of our return. All in all, a pleasant stay and would return.

    « Pleasant Hotel »

This is a nice hotel to stay at. The Staff are pleasant and helpful and the check in and out process is relatively quick. I stayed in the Hotel annex building and the room was of good size, clean and comfortable. Plenty of sockets and good free WIFI. Bathroom was of a good size, only let down by a shower curtain over the bath rather than a shower screen. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The restaurant food was nice, but a little pricey. Although I think there is a cheaper bar food menu on offer. The car park is a bit small for the size of hotel, but saying that I did find space over the three nights I stayed It is defiantly the best HoteI have stayed in in the area, it does seem to be fully booked quite a bit, so I guess a few people agree with this. I will stay there again if I can get in.

    « A good choice »

Just one night on business. Reception cheery, room large, clean and comfortable. Had a good, quiet night. Chose to eat at the bar, as the restaurant menu ask looked a bit fussy. It could have been excellent, but thought it was possible they had a chef who was trying slightly too hard! So fish and chips at the bar, which was pretty good. It's a ten minute walk uphill from the station, but that was fine. Overall a good experience. I will definitely choose this hotel when staying again.

« A little dated but very nice »

Going in to this hotel was a little like stepping back in time. Having said that, it was full of character and original features which were actually nice to see. We stayed in a suite which was tastefully decorated and clean. The bed was enormous and really comfortable, we both had a really good night's sleep! The bathroom was functional and toiletries were provided. We had a Nespresso machine in our room along with the usual tea and coffee making facilities which was a really nice touch. Our evening meal was delicious, worth a visit for the food alone! All the staff were really nice and seemed to want to do anything to make your stay enjoyable. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the Opera House, which was the purpose of our visit. There are hotels closer and this was actually our second choice. Having said that, I'm really pleased we chose to stay here!

« Lee Wood Hotel, Buxton, Derbyshire »

This was the second time that we have stayed at this hotel in 2015. It is a very well-kept hotel with helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are excellent, comfortable and warm. Food is excellent - both breakfast and dinner, with a good menu and great selection of wines. We would certainly recommend it and plan to stay there again on further trips to Derbyshire or to the Manchester area.

« Pretty setting, lovely building, but a hike from station »

This is a beautiful old building with lovely grounds, understandably a favorite wedding location. Traveling by train we found it a hike from the station although doable if you have only light, rolling luggage, The staff is very helpful and arranged a reliable taxi service to a remote village that we wanted to see but that was not accessible by local public transportation.

« Nice hotel in a good location »

I spent one night here with my husband. Our room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. We had a bar meal which was very nice and the service was good. The only down side to our stay was the fact that our room overlooked central heating/air-conditioning units. We would definitely stay here again but would ask for a room with a view!

« Lovely hotel in a great location »

We stayed at Lee Wood for 3 nights. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and check-in was quick and efficient. Our room was comfortable and clean. We loved the bathroom which had an odd long and narrow lay-out. The bed was comfortable and the room (in fact the whole hotel) was very warm and inviting. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room with some delicious shortbread biscuits! Car parking seemed adequate; we never struggled to park. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it looked very pleasant, just a touch on the expensive side for people like us who are not really foodies! The hotel is situated in a great location for walking into Buxton and for driving to lots of sights near Buxton. We would definitely stay here again. The only negatives were that wiFi was slow in the room and the TV was at an odd angle for watching in bed. I know you don't go on holiday to watch TV but if there is one in the room, it needs to be comfortable to view!

« Like being at home but with all the chores! »

I recently spent two nights in this hotel and was struck by the friendly nature of the staff and the warm welcome the place exudes. Quite a tall order on a wet and cold day! The staff were friendly and polite and the service was excellent,. The room beautifully prepared, clean and well equipped and the bed offering a warm comfortable night's sleep. Have special dietary requirements the staff could not do enough to help and ensure my stay was the best and most comfortable and had a supply of gluten free items for each meal. There was always lashings of hot water and a comfy bath to relax in too. I will definitely return and look forward to it very much.

    « Attended a wedding »

I didn't stay overnight as it was all booked, so can't comment on this. But I was really touched by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff throughout the day. Nothing seemed to be too much, the service was excellent and the food delicious. The conservatory (wedding venue) looked beautiful. Thank you for making my friends wedding so very special.

    « Comfortable night »

A change from the Palace, where we usually stay in Buxton. About a third of a mile out of the centre and up hill walk back. Good room, although bed a little hard. Breakfast was good, and served by friendly staff, as were those on reception. Nice overnight stay.

« Great place to stay »

We were given a free upgrade upon arrival and the room we were given was excellent. The main was large, clean and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and there was plenty of tea and a coffee machine with well stocked supplies. It is about a 5 min walk into the centre of Buxton with all the usual amenities you would expect in a town. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the full English was good. We would recommend staying here and would do so again the next time we stay in Buxton.

    « Don't stay in the annex »

I booked this hotel on the basis of TA reviews and was seriously disappointed. We stayed in the annex. The room wasn't cheap but it certainly did not impress - our entrance was around the back and very unwelcoming. Room was very dated and had no charm. The bed was uncomfortable and the loo barely flushed. Of greatest concern was that the walls were so thin that I could hear every word of conversation in the next room - was kept awake by the occupant who snored loudly among other annoying habits. If this is the best Buxton has to offer then I won't be coming back here or anywhere else!

« Hotel in he middle of nowhere (it wasn't) »

This hotel is a lovely classic hotel on the internet map showed it miles from the town of Buxton. It could have been; the view to the south was open country for miles. We walked to the town centre in about 10 minutes, Buxton has so much character & is very near o the peak district national park, We will be back.

    « Good hotel »

I spent one night at the Lee Wood. The hotel's public rooms were comfortable and spacious. My bedroom was not large but it was clean and had a good bed and a decent bathroom. Breakfast was also fine but the dinner was not as good with the rib eye steak not really being worth the money. So overall a very good place for B and B but not sure I'd stay for dinner again.

    « First Class Hotel »

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last Saturday 17th October. The occasion was the wedding of my daughter. The hotel itself was like stepping back in time. It is furnished in a cosy way that gives it a warm and welcoming feel. The reception staff were very friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. In fact all the staff were really lovely and friendly, a special mention to Rebecca who ensured everything ran smoothly. The Bridal suite comprised of a large bedroom with a double bed etc. There was a separate living area with large t.v. and tea/coffee making facilities including a Nespresso machine ( but no George Clooney). The bathroom was modern with bath/shower, there was no window but the lighting was excellent ( some bathrooms can be gloomy). My daughter and her husband were thrilled with it all. The room I stayed in was equally as nice, with similar furnishings but smaller. Because it was a wedding, most of the downstairs area was for the use of the wedding party. This included a small sitting area, a larger area with a t.v. which led onto a well-stocked bar and the large conservatory which is where the ceremony, the meal and later the dancing took place. All areas are nicely furnished and kept very clean and tidy. The food was superb - I highly recommend the Full English. Well cooked well presented, plenty of it and very tasty. There is also a fully equipped gym downstairs. We didn't use that,( although after the breakfast maybe I should have). All in all this hotel set in lovely surroundings surpassed all our expectations from start to finish. And I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all and totally relax !

« Nice Hotel With Wonderful Staff »

A very nice hotel in an beautiful old building overlooking the park in Buxton. The views from the rooms at the front upper floor are stunning. The Executive Room we had was very good. Large comfortable bed and a large bathroom. The window was small but the view from it was worth it. The bar was good for a hotel having their own label cask bitter brewed by Wincle Brewery and a range of bottles from Thornbridge and Peak Ales. All are reasonable priced for a hotel. The wine list is limited but adequate. Breakfast in the conservatory was a joy. Lots of choice and good quality. The reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars is the dinner menu. It just doesn't have a wow factor. The quality, service and presentation were all good but the choices are standard fare. We stayed two nights but only ate in the hotel one night due to the menu. Finally, it was the staff that made the visit a joy for us. Every single person we dealt with in the visit seemed happy in their work, genuinely friendly and very effective. Well done folks and thank you!

The staff at reception could not have been more helpful. We had a very large room with a large bathroom. Both were warm and comfortable. A huge bed which was very hard and lumpy. Parking was difficult. Not enough space. The hotel itself appears to be tired.

    « Walking group visit »

Just left the Lee Wood Hotel after a 2day group (30)visit it was excellent the rooms and food were exceptional. The staff very friendly and went out of their way to help by even suggesting walks we could do on top of what was arranged. We will be sure to book another holiday in the near future

    « Reasonable hotel »

This is a reasonable hotel for a weekend stay. The positive is its location in the centre of this lovely Spa town. There is good parking available and you get a warm welcome from the staff. The rooms are ok but are maybe starting to show their age a little. The shower was ok and the rooms are clean. The bed was ok and I got a reasonable nights sleep but the mattress could be comfier. The hotel is quiet and there is no problem with passing traffic. Breakfast was good and there was a good choice. It would be nice if there was more local ales available at the bar given the excellent brewery in the town. Maybe a 3.5 !

    « Excellent Stay »

My wife and i stayed here for 3 nights in early October 2015. I am a regular visitor to Best western Hotels though on this occasion we stayed using tesco points. The Hotel is in a lovely position overlooking the park and only a few minutes walk from the Pavilion gardens, theater and the center of town. The room was very nice albeit in an annex which is a detached house next door to the main hotel. Staff were very friendly and the breakfasts were very good too. We had one evening meal in the main restaurant which was very nice. it is worth noting that you can have the bar menu food in the main restaurant if you do not feel like the main menu. we will definitely visit again. A small point of interest the former house of Vera Brittain, author of testament of youth is only a few doors away and has a plaque outside

    « Our wedding »

I booked our wedding here 2 years ago for september 2015 and straight from the start Rebecca was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. The day went very well, everything was well organised and the whole staff were very approachable. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the food was amazing. I would recommend this venue to anybody for a wedding or a short break.

« Peaceful setting near to the centre of Buxton »

Charming Hotel with character, very welcoming and helpful staff. The hotel is clean and well maintained throughout. We upgraded to a spacious room overlooking the Buxton Crown Green Bowling Club. We got chatting to some members, and what a bunch of friendly people they were. (Thanks for the tips on lawn maintenance). Fantastic views, comfortable bed provides a good nights sleep. The large airy conservatory is fabulous for eating. The breakfast can't be faulted with a good selection of alternative food to the full English. We chose not to eat the evening meal although menu looked good. We were just spoilt for choice with the restaurants in Buxton. The town is a short downhill walk, a little challenging on the way back, dependant on how much advantage you take of the wide selection of real ales. Buxton is a beer drinkers paradise. Trying the Cheshire Cheese is a must, well worth the walk across town. We would definitely recommend the Lee Wood.

« Lovely Warm Welcoming Hotel »

This hotel is very good in every respect. The breakfasts were generous and well cooked, the restaurant food was excellent (quite pricey though), the location was good and very quiet. No problem parking the car. The staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful. The room was very large, clean and well cared for. The only disappointment was that, on their website, the De Luxe Room that we booked, should have had 'soft drinks, fresh fruit and a 'gift local to the area to take home with you'. None of which we had! Overall, I would love to go back and stay again.

    « Group visit September 2015 »

We have just come back from a most enjoyable stay at Lee Wood Hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely rooms for all of the group (there were 29 of us) and delicious food. There was a good and interesting choice for the group at each evening meal.

    « Warm welcoming Hotel »

We didn't stay at the Hotel, but rather met some Relatives for a meal and what an evening we had. The meals and service we received was very good. Hotel was Very Clean and tidy. Parking your car can be a slight Problem, but that may only be because the Hotel is always Full, which can only be a good sign.

« Good location for walking »

This attractive hotel is in an ideal location with nicely kept gardens away from traffic noise. As a base chosen for our walking group holiday, it proved to be a good decision. The hotel was comfortable and the staff very obliging. We found the Internet connection in the bedrooms was not great. Breakfast was enjoyable with a good choice. I would definitely use again and would recommend this hotel to my friends.
