« Lovely hotel warm, cosy , immaculate , helpful staff »

We stayed here for 2 days and 2 nights whilst I visited the dentist for a short trip. Stayed in Budapest many times and this is one of the best little hotels I've stayed in on pest side . It's a nice modern hotel located in a great area . The street doesn't do it justice as it's tucked away but that shouldn't make a difference as your not there to look at the street . The hotel is very warm, Rooms are quite small but it was ideal and very cosy , showers are fantastic very powerful ! Toiletries provided . You also get tea and coffee and kettle in the room but free tea and coffee and and fruit through out the day . The breakfast is continental with a selection of salads, cereals, dried Fruits , meats , cheese ,breads , pastries , fruit seeds yoghurt and there was milk soya milk etc . There was also scrambled eggs and fried eggs and bacon one morning, and on another morning there was sausage and eggs etc . They also have a luggage holding cupboard which is secure . The staff are very friendly and we felt very welcome . They Helped us with our maps, giving us directions and calling taxis for us . Near the hotel is a fab bakery and some other little shops if you don't need to go far ,!its ideal for me for dental visits. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and I will definitely book to stay here again when we return to Budapest . Tnank you for a wonderful stay .

« Best Western Hotel Ambra, Budapest »

Nice and peaceful hotel. Close to the center and the nearest metro station (Opera). Also tram were easily available. Good breakfast! Our stay was from Thursday to Monday and getting the hotel via Taxi and from the hotel to airport successful.l

    « in the centre »

I stay one night in this hotel couse i am out for business: Location is superb , is very good if you go in the centre of the city. The room is good. Bathroom is a little bit small but super cleaned. Breakfast is very good. If i return in Hungary i return in this hotel.

    « Perfect location »

We decided to start our river cruise by getting to our starting point a couple of days early to get aclimatized. We chose Best Western because we could get a breakfast and the location was in the older part of Budapest. The staff were great, friendly and accommodating. They were fluent in English and understood our questions and concerns. A safe place to venture out day or evening for the sights and dining. Not the best place to stay if you have a rental car as the area is OLD TOWN and the streets are narrow and not alot of public parking.

    « welcoming hosts »

Check in was easy and fast and we were inviting to have coffee and cookies while we waited for our room to be ready. the man at the front desk was very helpful and so was the kitchen staff. The location is perfect to explore the city. When we checked out the next morning, we said that our air condition in our bedroom did not work properly and they gave us a bottle of wine for our discomfort. Continental breakfast was delicious and the staff was super friendly.

« My first visit in Budapest. »

Very good location.good service.cleening of the room may be more.breakfast is good and you can drink coffee whole day and night. Every day were any kinds of fruit and juice. The personal was very kindness.

« An Experience To Savour »

We arrived late very late, however the night desk were very helpful, the formalities were completed we fould our room on the 5th floor on opening the door we were so pleased very spacious clean warm and quite, we had a shower and retired at this time the water was very hot. Throughout the week we were thoroughly satisfied with the breakfasts be it mainly continental. The service impeccable, attention to detail excellent, and very very clean, place a small spill was wiped up immediately. The room service was good be it after lunch on most days, again attention to the detail is that matters. My wife had been in Budapest earlier in the year at an Hotel which was almost double the cost. The Ambra was superior in most counts. The front desk were always helpful, and the English used was very good. If we were returning to this city i would not think twice about stopping at thisHotel. The location was about 10 minutes walk from all the main area,s hence good. Be it the back streets are far better value for money for everything. I thank all of the staff for the service given you were a gem.

    « Best Breakfast ever! »

This hotel is hard to find fault with. We had an amazing stay. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The breakfasts were amazing. So many things to choose from and the staff are happy to go the extra mile. Most delicious bacon I've ever tasted! Centrally located to everything, we would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended

« Good place to stay »

The Hotel Ambra is located close to main streets and close to several restaurants. Welcome area and front desk are nicely appointed. Manager was extremely friendly and helpful. His English was very good. Our Hungarian was nonexistent. Our room for 3 was very nice, spacious, clean, and nicely appointed. Shower was also very spacious. Beds were an actual queen instead of 2 twins pushed together and a very spacious sofa bed. Spacious area for an excellent breakfast also has coffee, tea, and hot chocolate at all times. They also have food for evening fare. Echoing other reviews, Ambra is a real find. The currency, Hungarian Florins (Huf, Fl, Hfl you will see), is a little overwhelming at first since you think you are spending a fortune. Also buy your hop on - hop off bus tour tickets from the manager. You can purchase a 24 hour or 48 hour pass. You can pay more from aggressive sellers at the stops. The tickets at the hotel must be paid in cash. These tickets at the hotel are for the green and pink busses. Red busses are 2 other lines and cost more. All lines include a boat ride on the Danube. The boat ride I found to be much more interesting than the bus tours.

    « A real gem in Budapest »

Well located allowing you to walk almost everywhere to attractions and many different restaurants in all price ranges. Very pleasant staff in a very well kept property. Breakfast is very good with a wide range of items very nicely presented. Room was very comfortable and more than ample size. If you are joining or leaving a riverboat cruise this would be a perfect place to stay a few days to see the city.

    « Great Boutique Hotel »

This is a real find in Budapest. The location is terrific, the rooms are nice and spotlessly clean, and the staff is wonderful. The breakfasts are amazingly complete and they always have coffee and snacks in the breakfast area. If you're staying for a few days, I recommend that you take one of the Hop-On-Hop-Off tours booked through the hotel. Take one that includes a boat trip on the Danube.

    « Excellent location »

We only stayed 1 night and are glad we chose this hotel. It's walking distance to many shops, restaurants and attractions (maybe a mile at most from the river Danube). The decor and furniture is fairly modern. Staff were very nice and helpful. Price paid provided good value. AC worked well. The room wasn't that big but we did fine. The only negative would be the bed. It was only ok (a bit hard for our taste) and we found it a bit strange that we would have 2 separate single bed blankets on top of a queen bed.

    « Lovely hotel »

Small boutique hotel with nice amenities. Good service and helpful. Good breakfast. Yes they did push the hop on/off. But more research on our part would have been smarter. Good location to tour from.

« Location good, good price/value but with deficits »

Location is good, especially for nightlife and bars. Rooms is good value deal and quiet and clean. But as other people stated shower leaked - wet feed in the morning are not nice. Breakfast is average and coffee out of the machine. Service is friendly. However, they sell you a hop-on hop-off bus ticket which is not what suited my needs and upon asking if there are other companies, they claimed it's the only one. Lying to customers to make a bargain is not cool!

    « Not bad »

We went for a wedding. Stayed 5 nights. We emailed them before our visit as our flight was arriving late. They informed us they could arrange a drive to pick us up cheaper than the local taxis (we did this, both ways) The hotel is very close to the metro station and plenty of bars around the area. This lift as very small and the wifi was poor, unless we were in the lobby. Breakfast was reasonable. For the money this hotel was great, if anything like ourselves all you will do is wash and sleep there anyway. Amazing City

    « Yucky »

Our room was a yucky brown colour, the bedding was brown, the sheets were a weird yellow, the lights were dim, the bathroom looked grubby, but then again it was brown and small. The TV was ancient and the traffic was horrendously noisy. Ok - so we were at the front of the hotel, we expect some noise, but they could have put in double glazing and tried to lessen the noise. And why would you provide a table and only ONE chair when it is a double room. It's not like we are going to take turns using the chair, is it? The only really nice thing about this hotel is that because we visited with a coach company at dinner we had some musicians play some traditional Hungarian tunes and it was awesome, really made my night/stay!

« Nice hotel horrible location »

I've visited Budapest several times so I was familiar with the area. It's a 10 minute walk to the city square and walking streets. The room was clean and nicely furnished. The big problem was the loud drunks until 4 am from several bars outside the hotel. There was loud music all night and in the morning, there was empty bottles and vomit in front of and next to the hotel. As my kids and I walked to our car, we passed several drunk and obnoxious party-goers who thought it was funny to scare my son. I wasn't even annoyed that the street was torn up due to construction and we had to walk 2 blocks to our parking lot. If you're looking for somewhere to stay where you can stumble your way into your room, this is a great hotel for you.

« Very nice staff and very nice place »

Good quiet place in center of the city. Breakfast with plenty of different things as whished. Service is professionnal and always available. Gives advices to organise the stay such as city tours, shows etc... The parking is very small but exists. Then try to arrive early to get a place.

« Best location, good value, modern room »

Overall - hotel is in a perfect location. Staff is OK. Room was clean. Bathroom was huge. Parking is free on the streets on weekends. They also have a garage (with car lift) for extra charge. Location - supermarket is next to the hotel. Bars, restaurants are on the street next to the hotel. Everything important for tourists is nearby. Room - modern decoration. Pillow menu. Coffee/tea. NO FRIDGE! (minibar is in a closet). Bathroom (with shower) has everything You need. There was no view, but therefor it was very quiet. Breakfast - average breakfast, with some fruits. Coffee was not so good as expected, but was drinkable.

« Great Place for good value »

really enjoyed the stay location was awesome. Great value. Thought the staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to the questions I had. The room was nice and the AC was perfect. Would absolutely stay again

« Good hotel with nice staff »

Stayed for 3 nights in June. Paid € 25 for Fo taxi from airport to hotel. It took us approx 20 mins on Sunday morning. Positives- Proximity to opera metro station 350meters. Spar supermarket just opposite ,bakery and church few meters away. Close by Kirlay street has many cafes/bars Also flea market on the street sellers selling handicrafts, some antiques, old stamps etc. Indian restaurant Shalimar close by. Staff is very nice, warm and helpful.Ready to assist on your as many queries as you can ask ! 24/7 coffee machine available along with light snacks. Negatives- Very small lift barely 2 people can stand with little luggage Room did not had proper view ,window had opening to sky. Wifi disappointing on all days ,not sure if this problem was in isolation or regular. However they provided us legitimate discount to compensate for poor wifi. Breakfast average with limited spread but not bad. Some Useful tips - Fotaxi had counter just outside airport wherein you get challan and then allotted taxi ,found reliable. Do carry forints as it is widely used and conversion to € may vary from place to place. Don't buy forints at airport or any unknown place as difference and commission can be huge. We found two good places for exchange -one close to Opera House on opposite street towards oktogon metro and other near platz cafe at deans square.

    « Gateway to Budapest! »

Top service (reception personal was great: helpful and polite!), nice and large room, top location! I can easily recommend! Only the coffee good be better, please change the machines or the coffe beans. It does not taste good!

    « Good Value »

This hotel had a nice room and very well appointed with free parkingas well. The location is very good. Service is professional with friendly staff. Also very quiet. The elevator is rather small and can only handle 2 people with luggage.

    « Highly reccomanded »

We loved the hotel, great location. very good breakfast, gentle and polite care of the staff. the room has its own style, young. if any of our reletives or friends will go to budapest, we will reccomand this hotel.

« Good location near a happening street »

A few steps off Kiraly Utca, this hotel is conveniently located to the Opera and theater district. Kis Diofa Utca is currently a mess because of what looks like new sewer installation. But that makes it quiet at night. The breakfast buffet is good - the sausages and salami were excellent. The bathroom is spacious and has just barely enough shelf space for two kits and toothbrushes, etc. The towel rack for bath and hand towels is inconveniently located. The floor is extremely slippery when your feet are wet. The room is fairly big with a clever bench across the wall of windows.

« Nice hotel good location »

Stayed here from 11-15 may 2016 for my wifes birthday. Nice big room with comfy double bed. Great location just near the opera house and 5 mins from andrassy avenue. Loads of bars and resteraunts right near hotel only downside was the breakfast was dissapointing.

    « Great location for a visit »

Great hotel for a few nights. We had 4 nights on the 5th floor. The single lift is good but tiny. 2 people & cases only. The room was really quite narrow & small, but adequate. The bathroom/shower was awesome. The staff were very helpful. The included hot and cold breakfast was very good. A great way to start the day. The free wifi was good too. There is no fridge in the room, but they offered to put anything in their kitchen fridge if we wanted. Overall I'd recommend this hotel for couples, as a base to explore Budapest.

    « Great Easter Break »

We stayed as a party of 5 for 4 days over Easter. We were slightly worried that the airport taxi driver wasn't familiar with the area so we thought we might be miles from anywhere but we soon realized that we had picked a great hotel near to lots of bars/shops etc. The lobby is very classy and the receptionist was great. He had us checked in very quickly, gave us maps and told us which bars nearby would still be open if we wanted to go out. We had two rooms between our group, both on the top floor, and they were huge! Mine and my partner's room had a separate living area with a couch, desk, tv ect., and the bathroom was more like a wet room. The towels were changed often and the toiletries were lovely. There wasn't much of a view from the window apart from the Spar shop opposite the hotel, but that didn't matter to us (although the early morning deliveries were quite noisy). The only complaint we had about being on the top floor is that there was only one small lift and it could only hold 4 people max so we had to travel in two groups every time we wanted to go to and from our rooms. Breakfast was good with a choice of cheeses, meats, cereals, pastries, toast, sausages and eggs. There are complimentary snack such as crisps and fruit available throughout the day, and you could get a hot drink from the machine all day too (this was great - try the mocha and hot chocolate). The hotel is in a great location, right next to the main street (King Street) which has a lot of bars and restaurants, it is also near a bus stop and a tram stop, which we used to get to Margaret Island. It's really easy to walk into the main square from the hotel and takes about 15-20 minutes. The nearest bar is less than a minute away, the shop across the road has most things you could want and there's a great bakery just seconds away. Overall the hotel was clean, with great rooms, good breakfast and an excellent location for sight-seeing. I would definitely return.

    « I expected better »

When I first came in the hotel I was impressed by the lobby. Nice architecture and design. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Rooms are simple and quite cold. In some places needs refurbish. The breakfast was good. Location is also great.

« It does the job »

Clean and newly decorated rooms. Very well placed in Budapest for visiting and nights out. The concierge on night shift was very helpful all the time, when I asked for keeping the milk for the baby in the fridge (none in the room) or when the cot in our room was missing. Very helpful staff and good breakfast overall. Taxi from the airport 7500UHF. Defenitely raccomend

    « a new experience »

a very welcoming reception at 8.30 at night which was nice; but that was just the beginning. All the hotel staff were more than helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was very comprehensive; the room was first class and a very convenient location for food and wine.

    « Excellent »

At first glance the surrounding area doesn't seem that great but there are a lot of bars and restaurants in the vicinity. A ten minute walk from the centre the location is really good. Part of the group stayed in a double room while the rest of us were in a triple room. It was huge. Massive bathroom. Loads of storage and a good safe for valuables and cleaned daily. The hotel has just been refurbished and as a result is pristine. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and efficient. Breakfast was simple but filling, the beds were comfortable. The WiFi was free and working. Couldn't have wanted much more. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Ok »

The hotel is located relatively near the Opera, however the location is not one of the best blocks in the city. The hotel personal is friendly and the rooms are clean and big enough. The breakfast is average and there is a coffee machine that can be used free of charge whenever you want. Lowlight: the hotel claims to have a parking facility for the guests, however it was always "full" and we had to park somewhere in the neighborhood. There is a private parking garage three blocks away which can be used for 15€ / 24h.

    « Last Minute Find »

My flight was postponed and I had to extend my stay in Budapest for another 2 days. As the hotel I originally stayed was full, I had to find another place in less than 24 hours, and very reasonably priced. And what a find; I would choose this small hotel than another big hotel. Staff are very helpful and polite. Rooms are big, bed is very comfortable, and pillow menu available. Breakfast limited selection but very good in quality. Drinks, coffee and snacks are available entire day. Entire place is very new and clean. Nice location, next to Opera Metro Station (5 minutes) or the bigger on with more lines (15 minutes). Plenty of food, bars and next to a shopping street.

    « A good choice. »

This hotel was in the Thomas Cook brochure so we were sure it would be okay. In fact it had a great location being in the Old Jewish Quarter which had a history of its own. It was only a 12 - 15 minute walk to a hub where you could get bus, tram or metro to anywhere you wished. The hotel itself was clean and the staff all spoke good English - very important in Hungary where the language is indecipherable! They were knowledgeable, helpful and polite. Breakfast was an adequate buffet help-yourself setup with a generous window but, if my memory is correct, lunch and dinner were not available. No matter, we were in Budapest to see sights, not hang around in a hotel. And there's a lot to see in Budapest. Sleep quality was okay except for one night when some idiots returned at 1.30 a m and spoke in loud voices before slamming doors. This is not the hotel's fault - it can't know that some of its guests have disgusting manners. Overall I would say that I was very satisfied with our stay at Ambra Hotel and regard it as good value for what I paid.

« Very friendly and clean hotel »

Just returned from this amazing city, both Buda and pest. The hotel was situated in a brilliant central position in the Jewish district 7 area. Many bars and restaurants close by too. The hotel staff are all very friendly and speak very good English. The breakfast each morning has a good variety of both hot and cold foods. There are hot drinks availiable free throughout the stay and if you want cold there are 2 small fridges housing beers, wines and other drinks but these are not complimentary. Across the road from the hotel is a small supermarket which stays open late, selling just about everything you require, late snacks, drinks crisps etc. Budapest has a great travel system, mainly hop on/off tour buses inc cruise trips on Danube. Very reasonably priced, there is also a metro system and trams too. I would highly recommend visiting this country and this hotel. All historic buildings are very majestic and ornate and plenty of named large retail shops if you fancy some retail therapy.

« definitely situated in a strategic point »

this hotel has been renovated this January and is located in the centre of Budapest. walking you can get everywhere without problem and near the hotel there are a lot of bars and restaurants. breakfast is really tasty and room was quite silent. i'm really satisfied about this hotel. the only drawback with this hotel is the park. there is a private park but it was full and i've used a not so far park.

« Basic hotel in good location »

We spent three nights in this hotel for New Year and were generally satisfied. Superior room was good size, breakfast correct, with champagne, a nice touch around New Year. However, a most disturbing thing about this hotel, definetely worth mentioning is the room cleaning service. Despite our request by hanging the card on the door, the maids did not show up until 4 o'clock pm, when we returned for our afternoon rest, considering that we were travelling with a child. So the room was not made up, towels not replaced and when the maids finally arrived on the floor, they were shouting and banging and acting in the rudest manner imaginable. On my very legitimate request that they should keep silent, they retorted shamelessly that I should go back in and keep the door shut. For the four days of our stay in Best Western Amra, rooms (ours and our parents') were not cleaned and towels not replaced. On the last day of our stay, the reception desk attendant called and asked if we wanted this service or else the maids would leave at 5 pm. It was 4.30 pm! Really, to disturb guests in the afternoon in order to have the rooms cleaned and still not provide the service is unacceptable in any hotel and unheard of. This experience really put everything else in a worse perspective.

« Nice rooms, good breakfast, excellent service »

We stayed for one week in December. The room was large (superior souble), clean and fairly quiet, considering that the hotel is in the center of the jewish quarter with its high density of bars and pubs. Our room was facing to the street, but on one of the upper floors. The breakfast buffet was great and the staff extraordinarily friendly. We would book again any time!

« Decent hotel, great location »

Standard hotel. Good beds, decent shower. The breakfast buffet is basic: cheese, cold cuts and scrambled eggs. Staff is friendly: at the front desk they speak French, German and English. The wifi is fast and reliable. The best feature is its location, two blocks away from Andrassy, one of Pest's nicest avenues. It's also a 10 minute, enjoyable, walk from the Cathedral.

« Still Problems with 6th Floor; Not a "Plus" »

On checking in I was offered the first floor or the sixth floor. Based on my one of my previous reviews ? in 2012 - of the sixth floor ?Room from Hell? I opted for the first floor. As I was paying for my room when leaving, the people in front of me were complaining about the noisy nature of their room ? yes, it was on the sixth floor! The hotel is supposed to be doing work to rectify this soon. My comments from my last review ? 2014 ? still apply which is a pity as it means that the hotel is still not back to its 2012 standard when I first stayed there. The price and location still make it (just about) worth staying in ? but if I were not a collector of BW points, I think I would experiment elsewhere. However, I would dispute the "BW Plus" tag - it is a standard BW type hotel

« Great staff, service and near city centre »

We stayed here for 4 days including weekend. The hotel was in ideal location, about 10minutes walk to some of the attractions. There are quite a number of bars, cafes and restaurants near the hotel with a good vibe of nightlife. A supermarket spur around the corner of hotel was handy. The breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold food e.g. omelette, bacon, sausages, fruits, fresh juices. Hot drinks machine e.g. coffee was available for free throughout the day. The receptionist was really knowledgeable and helpful, Smooth check-in and also gave us information about hop-in hop-off bus sightseeing tours and about the landmarks and sites around hotel. The double bed rooms were comfortable, spacey with clean bathroom and air-conditioner . They had different types of pillows which was available on request for free. The hotel had a Sauna on the first floor but we didn't get chance to use the facility as were always out partying. Overall had a pleasant experience and lovely time in Budapest and would definitely recommend to friends.

« Excellent hotel, perfect location, great price »

We stayed here for an extended weekend. It was a splendid stay, the breakfast is more than sufficient and delicious, but what was really great was the reception staff and they way they made us feel. Extremely helpful, respectful, perfect English was spoken. The area is full of life, close to everything, full of bars, caffes and young people, but the hotel is on a peaceful little street and no sleep issues exist. Will most likely visit again

« Great location with nice hospitality »

The hotel is located at the heart of Pesht, Budapesht. The reception desk employee were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was great. Metro and very good restaurants are very close to hotel. I would recommend the hotel to all visitors which would like a nice place to sleep and tour around the city all day.

    « Perfect. »

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is in the perfect location, only 10/15 minute walk to all the main attractions. Close to many restaurants and bars. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Fantastic stay, if i were ever to visit Budapest again, i would stay here!

    « Excellent location »

Everything was excellent. The hotel service team was very friendly and they helped us with parking possibility even when they don't have any free parking spaces. The Hotel is located in the city center and has a very large variate of restaurants and bars in neighborhood.

    « Nice hotel »

We arrived quiet late... The welcome was very friendly and also funny. The receptionist (Szabados Gábor) made our day after a long trip, so I say thank you for it. The room was cosy and clean, breakfast is very hungarian with hungarian sausage, bacons, lovely selection of cheese... and if you fancy to drink a Törley sparkling wine just help yourself... I fancied... :-)

    « Great location »

Hotel was lovely. Cosy and a nice size room (105) with good bathroom ,good shower ! Stayed here for 3 nights with my boyfriend. Receptionist was amazing . Gave us full information about the area sites and bus tours on how to get around I would recommend the green and pink bus tour. It is in the perfect location regarding near bus stops a few sites and night life ( Kazinsky street ) . Would stay here again defiantly and recommend to anyone. Thank you again

    « Good all rounder »

After reading the reviews regarding the noise issues I emailed the hotel requesting a room at the back & had a reply within hours to say they would accommodate us if possible. We were lucky & managed to get one so no problem sleeping. However, the rooms at the back are very dark (although the weather wasn't good) & overlook other rooms so you need a light on at all times as they never actually see daylight. I also requested a bottle of wine in the room as it was our anniversary. This was provided with a note wishing us a 'happy anniversary' at no extra charge which was an unexpected surprise. The breakfast is plentiful but I can't say I enjoyed the cooked element. If you're a carb lover you'll be very happy, I made the most of the seeds, dried fruit, yoghurt etc. There is a drinks machine just inside the breakfast room where you can get a hot drink at any time of the day - they are very small measures so if you want a mug full press the button twice! The reception staff are very knowledgeable, friendly & helpful. The hotel is in an excellent location (we didn't realise how good when we booked) & if we were ever in Budapest again we would stay here.

    « Nice and cozy. »

We were a couple that went on a 5 nights stay at this hotel. The breakfast was very good, even though the selection was a little bit poor. The staff was very nice and helpful and the location was great, really quiet but nearby everything. We had a great stay!

« If you want to be awake all night this hotel »

My friend and myself stayed two weeks ago we booked a best western due to its reputation and quite frankly I really wonder who has wrote the previous reviews of this hotel great location breakfast excellent ..but that's it my friend was given a back room huge with balcony that looked onto 3 brick walls and what looked like a prison yard so depressing I had room at front the noise level every evening was horrific the hotel think its funny that they have to provide ear plugs you can still hear the screaming shouting police cars with them in,oh and when you finally get to sleep at 5am the supermarket across the road has its delivers for 2 hrs and they park right under your window .i asked to be moved twice both times nothing happened. This hotel is a franchise not actually a best western do your self a favour don't book or stay here and if you do and you experience what I have write a review because the ones on this web site are complete rubbish the rooms are shabby and not what they are made out to be

    « Mixed emotions....... »

We stayed here from September 15 through September 20. This is a very pleasant, relatively modern hotel and our room was very spacious but sparsely furnished. The free Wifi is troublefree with a reasonably strong signal. The free breakfast was quite extensive and well prepared including some sort of Hungarian Champagne. The hotel is in an excellent location vey close to a major thoroughfare and public transport but positioned away from any noise on a side street close to numerous restaurants. Our room face the side street and we were not bothered by any outside noise with the exception of someone in the room next to us who was occasionally noisy during the night. By the way, the cost of a taxi should be about 1500 to 2000 HUF from the main railway station - don't let any of the cabs there take you for a proverbial ride. The hotel arranged taxi service to the airport is metered rather than a flat rate and we paid 7000 HUF. The Manager is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and outgoing and a clear asset to this establishment. However, there is one negative and that is the Housekeeping. During our 5 nights stay we were only able to get housekeeping twice. The reason for this is twofold: the majority of the rooms are only cleaned late in the afternoon - we came back from sightseeing one day at close to 5 pm and our room still had not been done. Another time we placed the card over the door handle to have room service done and nothing had happened when we returned late afternoon. Managements explanation was that the card showed the "Do not disturb" side. However, we for not believe this to be true because when we came back the card was still showing the "request service" side - either someone turned the card around or Housekeeping took the easy way out. Also, the soap dispenser in the shower essentially was all water with no or little soap. We bought our own soap not wanting to make an issue out of it. Lastly, on one occasion when I turned on the shower water, the shower head had been turned towards the shower door and the water soaked me and the bathroom floor. Also, we ran out of toilet paper - in other words, the housekeeping service needs better supervision and attention to detail. Rated a 3 because of the housekeeping issues.

    « convenient clean accommodation »

situated on the Pest side within easy walking of the River Danube and Chain Bridge plus many of the popular sights such as Parliament, The Little Princess, Gresham Palace and the City Park. The buffet breakfast is extensive in choice and amount, the staff very friendly and with drinks available in the afternoon/evening you can't go wrong. The only problem was the noise from the street at night particularly Saturday night. If you can have a room at the back it's good but the double glazed windows keep the noise down. As we were up on the 5th floor we did not have view other than roof tiles of across the road.

« Although this hotel is rated as 4 star it is only a three star. »

The staff at the hotel were wonderful and helpful. The location is great but the quality of the room and facilities is only three star despite the that it is listed as 4 star. The room is fairly small and their isn't a lobby to sit in.
