great location. Room very large and clean. could not have asked for better and staff a lot friendlier than more expensive hotels. The fellow at reception was exceptional with his assistance. A great stay

« Good Value for a good hotel »

First things first and the location is definitely the main feature of this hotel. The room is spacious and has everything you need. However the Air conditioner just seemed to blow air and not cool the room at all which made for a hot nights stay. The pillows are clearly dual use as i assume they can be also be used for sandbags in case of flash flooding. Which was almost the case as the shower head seemed possessed and changed its pattern and/or flow at will. We also parked our car there for the night for a measly $9, and the carpark is a batman style elevator which puts your car in a vertical column and is stored underground and will pops back up when you need it (via the nice hotel staff, not batman). My wife's hatchback only just fit in their though (height wise) so if you have a car much higher then the bat-mobile you may have issues. All in all though i paid under just $100 for the night and made it out alive. So would recommend it for someone looking for a cheap hotel in a handy location.

« Great room for the price »

Stayed one night the room room was very spacious and comfortable with balcony and kitchenette comfy bed good size TV and handy location. Had trouble with faulty door lock but the staff were prompt to remedy it. The staff were friendly and helpful would recommend this hotel to anyone

    « Mwah »

A few minutes away from the hart of Brisbane and a 15 minutes walk to the Southbank with lots of restaurants. A taxi will take you in 20/30 minutes from the airport and will cost around 50AUD. The hotel is not special, and avarage 3 star hotel. Low water pressure and whem you take a shower the whole bathroom floor becomes wet and slippery. In 2016 it should not be so difficult to figure out a solution. Overall okay stay for our first night in Australia after flying in from Europe.

Close to CBD and park view from some rooms. Comfortable and reasonably priced. Restaurant is good value. Close to medical specialist offices. One block to Central train station. Very close to Holy Spirit hospital.

« Comfortable and Well Located »

We found this an ideally placed comfortable hotel located in Wickham Terrace, Brisbane. Central Station is a few minutes walk. The city can also be accessed easily by walking.Cafes and restaurants are located within the hotel or nearby. Trains are available to the airport or a taxi is around A$50.

    « Didn't hate it, didn't love it »

very spacious room and bathroom. Shower looked like it had been updated, but rest of the room was quite outdated, it could do with some new paint, maybe carpet instead of cold tiles. The bed was 2 single beds pushed together with a double bed fitted sheet over it to form a double bed, so was a little uncomfortable if you rolled toward the middle. Did have to go down to reception to let them know we were not provided with any towels, face washers etc. and there were foreign hairs all over the room which I found a little disgusting. Could work on cleanliness. And the whole corridor smelt strongly of vomit for abiut 24 hours (we had to hold our breath running from the elevator to the door) Over all though, was a good stay, good location, decently priced, good view, polite staff, spacious room, large balcony, kitchenette. Dependant on what you are looking for, I would recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere not too expensive but still somewhat decent.

    « Pleasantly surprised »

I was only in Brisbane for one night so went for the $100 budget. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Good staff, clean and close to central station so not far from city. I was lucky enough to get a big suite which was a bonus

    « Exceeds expectations »

Just looking for something well-priced and convenient for an overnight say in Brisbane. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of room and location. Great to relax on the balcony after a long flight. Ticked all the boxes and more.

« Good for the price »

The hotel was fine, if a little dated and in need of some modernisation. We stayed 3 nights and the room was fine, there was a balcony and the room is self contained with a small prep/ kitchen area and washing machine. I would return no problems

« No Integrity to deal with a serious health issues »

Got itchy on second night of my stay on my left leg; did not think much of it until the third night when it got worse all over my body!! Showed three lice I found under the bed sheets to staff to investigate the matter at 2am; think they tried to hide the evidence on hindsight as BOTH Alistair and another guy at the front desk were very blasé about the situation. Took more than a week and 3 further failed phone call attempts to Astor Metropole BEFORE the manager Ritana Sultani bothered to contact me ONLY via email with NO indication as what steps if any they are taking to resolve the situation!! Missed three days of work (I work as a contractor so get no sick pay). Ritana promised of compensation in her first email and then reneged it in her second email a few days later. The staff and Ritana just bury their head in the sand; blame the lice were on my clothes; obviously their conclusions were impartially made themselves and their cleaners being the judge; jury and the executioner. The management have no integrity and just like to hide behind a serious health issue. Worst "Hotel" experience ever.

    « over night stay »

We selected the Best Western Astor for the convenience we were after being central to City, and not over priced accommodation. In its hey day this hotel would have been oneof the "Top Notched" hotels in Brisbane. These days for this hotel has gone. When arriving at the hotel, the atmosphere at reception and surrounding foyer area is quite impressive. The restaurant and bar area doubles up as a breakfast room in the morning, and there are quite a few lounging areas, like most new hotels have got. But this is where it all stopped being impressive. .. after reaching our room we lost our impressions we had at reception. The room is outdated, and in desperate need of a deep clean. Management of this hotel needs to seriously look at housekeeping. This is definitely not up to Best Wesetern standards. With only just a little bit more of attention to detail and a bit of maintenance, it could quite easily back to standard. But on a positive side, we did not pay the earth, our breakfast although a bit on the cold side was satisfactory, and it suited our needs for an overnight stay.

    « Shabby »

Worn out and in need of love. Shower soaked the bathroom, aircon had its day and sink a disaster. Safe broken and Tv handset intermittent. Rated 4 stars in expedient but I would give it a 3. Reception staff lovely, feel sorry for them though.

« Very cheap and convenient »

Loved this hotel. Bought a Groupon which worked out to be around $85 a night. It is located just above Central Station, close to everything if you don't mind a walk up the hill. (There is also an elevator to Central station). Suited me perfectly. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and accommodating every time I rang. Stayed on 10th floor with large sliding door and nice balcony. The room had a mini kitchen which was awesome for making the stay a little cheaper. Large room. Plenty of space. Regal entrance and road frontage. Full housekeeping service every day. Only drawback was the bathroom floor getting wet from shower, but the shower was lovely. It even had a washing machine. It felt like a home away from home. Prefer this type of accommodation over 'hotel' style as the extra space and kitchen suited my stay for business.

« Not suitable for business travelers »

If you are happy staying in student style accommodation on business trips, this is the place for you. The room left me feeling less than satisfied, definitely no hint of luxury here. Over shower bath gives neither a nice bath or shower experience . Soap in refillable containers look awful. The room felt like student accommodation rather than suitable for business travel. Very dated and in need of a refurb. A noisy air conditioner kept making noise next door, luckily I was so tired it did not affect my sleep.

    « Worst ever breakfast »

Worst ever buffet breakfast I had in my life. Charging $15.90 per head, no even standard buffet breakfast items. Had to ask them to put bacon and scramble egg on. Brought them in a plate. Even rooms are dirty, not even changed pillow cases. Called housekeeping and ask to change them. Reception staff polite and helpful. Never ever recommend this place

« Great location for price »

I stayed two nights for business. Price was very good for such a central location but the hotel is cheaper for a reason and you should not have expectations beyond this. I stayed in a room which wasn't renovated and it was absolutely fine for what I paid. Room was clean and had everything i needed. Wifi was great. I had no problems with hot water at any time. Reception staff were friendly and helpful at all times. I would have no problem staying here again if I need a central location on a budget.

    « Rooms need renovation »

Stayed for one night. My room was old in need of renovation. Shower glass door was broken and splashing water all over bathroom. Bed mattress was so old I couldn't sleep the entire night, and needless to say, woke up with pain on my whole body. Found hair all over bed sheets and pillows...disgusting!!! I can't recommend this hotel.

« Great Central City Accommodation »

Stayed here for 3 nights and I consider it very good value for the price. Our room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable .We were on the 10th floor and it was very quiet with a good view over the city and plenty of natural light. Reception staff were helpful and courteous We required vehicle parking for one night and the arrangement is slightly unconventional but nevertheless good value considering the central city location. Continental breakfast is good value and the restaurant was well patronised. Superb location - just a short walk to town, and if you don't want to tackle the stairs there is a lift further along Wickham Terrace which delivers you to Central Station. A couple of minor housekeeping matters - had to ask each day for towels, either left none or one each and no bathmat etc. Also our room on the 10th floor had only a partial screen on the shower- so we always ended up with water all over the bathroom floor. Would stay here again

    « Bad room service! »

The position of the hotel is very good as it is only five minutes from Downtown and Queen street. Unfortunately we had some problem with the room service. The second day of stay the room service was not done: in the evening, when we came back at the room we found the bed not made, and towels not replaced. For all our stay ( 3 nights) there was no cleaning activity in the bathroom and on the room ground.

    3
    « Meh »

Stayed here for one night on the 5th floor and from reading other recent reviews it sounds like we had one of the better renovated rooms. The lobby looks great but definitely agree they should of spent more money in the rooms than on the lobby as that's where you spend most of your time! The bed is pretty old and squeaky and the whole room felt cold with tiles on the floors. The room is quite spacious with a sofa which looks like it's older than my grandma (who is 80+) and the kitchenette and furniture is also dated and can only rally make a microwave meal. Looks like it had a new bathroom with a shower so that was fine. If you are going to park your car it's $9 which is fine for one night but can definitely add up if staying longer. You have to park your car in stack parking which I have never seen before, you phone for a parking attend who helps direct you to squeeze into a tight spot for someone driving a hire car much bigger than my normal car it was pretty terrifying and not sure what I would have done if there had been been a car in the spot next to me! Pretty inconvenient to get the parking attendant every time you want to drive somewhere. We went to pop our head round and see what the pool looked like and that floor looked like a completely different world to the rooms we were staying in! Or completely different hotel! Half the rooms locks and key card things to the door looked like they were broken the laundry room was next to hotel rooms so I imagine would have been noisy if you were staying there. Looks like they are only half way through their renovation and it might just be luck which room you get! However if they didn't manage to do it all up its in a brilliant location right next to central station and so close to the CBD hopefully the hotel management can sort out all the issues everyone had raised on here and eventually it might be a great hotel. But at the moment I wouldn't stay again.

« Wont stay here next time »

Not hot water sign on shower. Took over 30 minutes for warm water but water only warm not hot. No heater. No extra blanket. Had to ask for wifi. Stagg friendly thats only good thing. Stood over 30 minutes in shower. Had to redress and call admin. I was cold and tired already arriving 2200 hours.

    « Great place »

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night with my family , our room was on the 5th floor and it was very nice, very clean. and the guys at reception were very friendly and helpful our remote control for the tv was not working rang them within 5 minutes they sent a new one up It also had a small kitchen and fridge ,and it is so close to the city they also have parking for your car if you pre arrange it .would highly recommend this hotel we have already booked our room for our next trip to Brisbane .

« Convenient to the CBD »

I stayed here for a long weekend to attend an AFL game at the Gabba. Check in was welcoming and very friendly! The room was cleanish - fridge needed defrosting and room smelt of curry but as soon as I opened the door the room aired out. I had a 10th floor room, nice and quiet. The bed was comfortable, amenities were all working and handy. I only needed to walk a couple of blocks to get to the cbd - so the location was excellent for shopping and dining. I ordered room service from the restaurant - great food reasonably priced. I enjoyed my stay and would stay again - if for location alone!

    3
« Small room, partially refurbished but good service and good breakfast »

Small room on 11th Floor with views over the city. Bed was harder than expected; recently renovated bathroom was small and the fittings were cheap reflecting the balance of the renovations. Good proximity to park and city. Navi (receptionist) was very helpful as were the car park attendants. They should have spent less money on the reception area and more money on the rooms!!

« Price was great. Room quality left a bit to be desired »

We were attracted by the price ($120 per night) and its 4 star rating. In reality the rooms are really 2.5 to 3 star. Vinyl floor coverings, older furniture (uncomfortable couch) Queens size bed was reasonably comfortable but old and squeaky; the bathroom was tired with moldy grout in the tiles. It would not be suited to persons with mobility issues because the shower was over the bath and the step up was high without grab rails to help.

    « Filthy! »

The front of the hotel looks great but once you get in the lift and then in your room it is a very different story. The couch I wouldn't even sit on, the curtains were filthy and stained, brown thread bare blanket on the oldest stained bed I have slept on in a very long time. Needs a bloody good clean. I will never stay there again!

« No hot water, flooded bathroom, garbage stench. »

I stayed here once before and it must have been in a renovated room because this stay was terrible and I won't ever come back. Look this hotel is in a good location central to CBD and Roma St parklands. It's a budget hotel I get that but I would have stayed in a backpackers if I knew I could get a hot shower at least. No hot water in shower. Lukewarm a couple of seconds at best. Went and saw the receptionist who sent his maintenance / security man up. he checked and would have also seen that the bathroom was flooded because the shower drain didn't work. he left and came back about 15min later and feed me some rubbish about the hot water being set to 55degrees and there was nothing they could do. It was 20 at best. Strange thing was the kitchen had hot water. Speaking of rubbish - I love that fresh smack you in the face stench of fresh rubbish from the garbage Shute wafting through the corridors as you get out of the lift. Level 7 must be a highly sought after floor as I have since read about this same issue. If you've ever stayed in Bangkok this might be a trip down memory lane. Anyway you lose some you win some.

« Very disappointing. Location good, but I encountered lots of issues. »

Having looked at TripAdvisor reviews before booking this hotel, I was a little dubious about choosing it (since about 42 % of the over 400 reviews rated it as poor or terrible), but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt because of the hotel location. The location is excellent. It is very close to Central Railway Station, the CBD, Wickham Terrace Medical Specialists and the Brisbane Private Hospital. Also, the price is reasonable and the reception staff member was friendly and helpful. However, there were just so many issues that I encountered that I now understand why there are so many unflattering reviews. I will try to be somewhat sequential, but if you are finding this review too long and are tempted to skip the rest, please make sure you scroll down to the paragraph where I talk about cleanliness before you move on. I was checked into a room (queen bed apartment). The room felt very hot so I went to turn the air conditioner on and found it only seemed to have a heat setting and a fan setting. I rang reception and said it wouldn't cool. They said they would send someone to look so I waited. About 5 ? 10 minutes later someone was at the door with a key to a different room. Thus I moved to room number 2. As soon as I walked in I could hear water running. I went to investigate and found the toilet was broken (no flush buttons that would move, thus the continuous running of water). How did they not know it was broken? Surely housekeeping staff were the last people in this room and as such would have reported this issue? This time I just went back down to reception rather than sit and wait again. I was given a key to a 3rd room. The toilet worked and the air-con did have a cool setting so I stayed in that 3rd room. Please note though, it did not have a heat seating. This proved inconvenient when it got cool during the night. I am wondering if the air-cons are not reverse cycle, meaning some rooms only cool and some only heat? The room was large but didn't have a dining table and chairs (unusual given it had a kitchenette). It did have a long desk against a wall with 2 chairs where you could sit and eat side-by-side while staring into a wall though. It didn't have a proper oven, only a tiny (portable) convection oven with 2 small hotplates on top. There was also a very small microwave. You could cook small, simple meals here. The block out curtains didn't block light very well as they hung poorly. The shower is over the bathtub, so definitely no good for anyone with mobility issues as you have to step over the edge of the high bath to get in and there are no grab bars. No carpet on the floor, just white tiles and a rug. The queen bed was not in fact a queen bed. It was 2 single beds pushed together and made up with queen bed linen. I know some places do this, but usually they would say so. If I book a hotel with a queen bed, I usually get a queen bed, not 2 singles shoved together. The spot where the 2 beds joined could definitely be felt and was not that comfortable. The sheets were incredibly thin (to be honest - it was the sort of sheet I usually see on top of a duvet, not used as a sheet), as was the blanket on the bed. This turned out to be a problem later in the evening when the temperature dropped as I the air-con couldn't heat. There was a privacy lock on the door, but it was broken. About an hour after I had gotten into the room I heard a knock on the door and a voice say ?housekeeping?. I had only moved 3 steps towards the door before it was opened and someone walked in! Too bad if I had been getting dressed or anything like that. Seems like some basic training may be needed ( ie you should wait a reasonable time to give someone a chance to get to the door and then knock again, just to be sure). After that, I kept the ?do not disturb? sign on the door all the time, since there was no functioning privacy lock. I have a horrible, terrible feeling that I slept that night in dirty sheets. To explain how I came to this conclusion I need to again be sequential. The afternoon that I checked in was a rainy afternoon, so there was not much natural light in the room. I had noticed that the tile floor was a little sticky in one spot, so I kept my shoes on in the room. I went looking for the rubbish bin to get rid of some rubbish and found it still had rubbish in it, so it hadn't been emptied since the last person checked out of the room. I also noticed weird black/grey spots all over the tiles near the sink and the bottom part of the mirror and that the rest of the mirror wasn't particularly clean either. While disappointing, these things weren't deal breakers. It was the next morning that the lack of cleanliness became very obvious. The sun was out and shining and I opened up the curtains and let the light in. Well. At that point I realised that this floor had not had a good clean in a while and the rug was far, far worse. The amount of hair and other ?stuff? evident in the rug made me very glad I had kept my shoes on. There was hair and dust and even someone's dropped pill on the floor near the bed. It looked like a toenail or fingernail and other stuff on the floor over by the window. This was a room that clearly hadn't had a really good sweep, let alone a mop. And the rug! Clearly not getting a regular vacuum. It was also obvious that no furniture was ever moved when the cleaned, judging by the dust, insect wings etc? piled up behind the bedside table. I dread to think what was accumulated under the couch. At this point I wondered more about the negative reviews and I logged into TripAdvisor and started to read some. I saw several about cleanliness issues right away and one about the sheets not being clean and having to ask for new sheets. I folded back the sheets on the bed with a feeling of dread. I had only slept on the right side of the bed (thank goodness). When I folded back the sheets all the way I could see what looked very much like a pubic hair on the sheet on the left side of the bed plus 2 stains. So, I am pretty sure I slept in dirty sheets, gross as it is to think that. While all of the above should be enough for anyone to think long and hard about staying here, there is sadly, still more. While unusual in this day and age, the rooms have no wi-fi and no information was provided in the room about food options. I had to go down to the restaurant to find out that they will do room service meals. I ordered a ?gourmet steak with vegetables and pepper sauce?. When it arrived, it was cold (lucky I had a microwave). I thought that they had forgotten the sauce until I found a little bit of it hiding under some carrot and cauliflower. There was no potato or other carbohydrate included as part of the vegetables - just same cauliflower, carrot and beans. The steak was so tough that I had trouble cutting it. I could barely eat it. Many times I gave up on chewing the piece in my mouth and just put it back on the plate. I think I managed to eat maybe half of it. Toughest piece of steak I have ever paid money for (I had one tougher a couple of times, but these were at a BBQ both time and were probably just very cheap cuts of meat that had been overcooked). Now, the final thing ? the luggage storage. I left my bag at reception to take advantage of the offered luggage storage on the day I checked out of the hotel. I wasn't pleased that there seemed to be no tag system to match up and prove ownership later on in the day, but I thought that wasn't so bad as the bag is locked away. Anyhow, I come back in the late afternoon to grab my bag and head to the airport. I tell the receptionist I need to grab my bag. He waves towards the door and tells me to help myself. The door wasn't locked!! My bag was sitting just inside the door of a room that wasn't locked. I grabbed my bag and left, but if I had been dishonest, there were a heap of other bags there that I could also have picked up and walked away with as no-one was paying any attention to me grabbing my bag. Another quick note about security - the lift has one of those machines where you have to swipe your card to go up, but it was non-operational, so anyone can access the floors of this hotel quite easily. Combine that with broken privacy locks and it is far from ideal. So, sorry to be so negative (I usually only go onto TripAdvisor to praise businesses that have done well) but I wanted to be brutally honest so that people know that there are in fact many good reasons why so many reviewers have rated this hotel as poor or terrible. I was in fact dumbfounded as to how anyone could rate it as excellent or very good (but a minority of people have). I spoke to a friend who has stayed here and they couldn't believe the photos I showed them. They stayed in a room on the 7th floor (I was on the 11th) and they said that their room was fantastic and they loved it. It is very disappointing that whoever owns this hotel isn't paying attention to the ~ 120 ratings of terrible and taking action to improve. Clearly they aren't as the sheer number of poor and terrible ratings would indicate a problem over a considerable period of time.

While disappointing, these things weren't deal breakers. It was the next morning that the lack of cleanliness became very obvious. The sun was out and shining and I opened up the curtains and let it all in. Well. At that point I realised that this floor had not had a good clean and the rug was far, far worse. It was also obvious that no furniture was ever moved when they cleaned, judging by the dust, insect wings etc? piled up behind the bedside table. I dread to think what was accumulated under the couch. At this point I realised that people who had made the very negative reviews had not been exaggerating. I remembered reading one about the sheets not being clean and having to ask for new sheets. I folded back the sheets with a feeling of dread. I had only slept on the right side of the bed (thank goodness). When I folded back the sheets all the way I could see what looked very much like pubic hair on the sheet on the left side of the bed plus 2 ?mystery? stains. So, I am pretty sure I slept in dirty sheets, gross as it is to think that. While all of the above should be enough for anyone to think long and hard about staying here, there is sadly, still more. The room had no wi-fi (apparently none of the rooms do) and no information was provided in the room about food options. I had to go down to the restaurant to find out that they will do room service meals. I ordered a ?gourmet steak with vegetables and pepper sauce?. It wasn't particularly cheap (~$28). Toughest piece of steak I have ever paid money for. So, sorry to be so negative (I usually only go onto TripAdvisor to praise businesses that have done well) but I wanted to be brutally honest so that people know that there are in fact many good reasons why 42% of reviewers have rated this hotel as poor or terrible. I certainly have no intention of staying here again despite its good location and I couldn't in good conscious recommend it to anyone. It is very disappointing that whoever owns this hotel isn't paying attention to the 119 (soon to be 120) ratings of terrible and taking action to improve. Clearly they aren't as the sheer number of poor and terrible ratings would indicate a problem over a considerable period of time.

« Needs to be cheaper »

Stayed here because my regular was booked out and the frequent flyers points were good. Good points: Location , close to the Alliance Hotel and Happy Boy restaurants, 2 of my , no gymfavourites. Clean. Cheap, if unusual hotel parking. Not so good: Dated, kitchen appliances very old, bathroom dated, thin towels, expected more for the price. Definitely not the worst, but I've had better cheaper.

    « Olde World Charm »

This Hotel looked very luxurious looking with chandeliers and big armchairs everywhere. It did take us some time to check in as there was only one staff member on the front desk. He was taking bookings over the phone which did take some time. As I had booked in online I would have thought that he could have asked that person to hold for just a moment. There was only one lift working for some reason. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The downside was that the tiles on the kitchen bench were broken. Also there was no bench space in the bathroom to put anything on to. We were on the 8th floor with a view to Wickham Tce which was over the roof below. All in all it suited our purpose as we needed a central city venue for the night.

« Good hotel for a few days »

Stayed there during Christmas 2015. Good hotel. Some staff they were going the extra mile to help and some not so interested. Fair enough. Elevator was broken for a few days and had to wait. It was fixed though. Didn't try the breakfast since we were eating out. All in all, a good hotel near the centre where you can walk to sightseeing.

    « Horrible Experience »

From the moment I arrived at the Best Western Astor Metropole, I felt like a burden too some of the staff (Some were very friendly - others not so much.) Our room and whole floor stunk like stale cigarettes and nothing would get rid of the smell (it was disgusting.) A power socket didn't work in our room so we had to take turns charging our phones. The 'breakfast buffet' was horrible no bacon, eggs, fresh juice and only instant coffee available - no brews. We got told eggs were being cooked and decided to wait, the chef brought out seven eggs when there were over 20 people waiting, I demanded a refund as the only foods available were dried out fruits, cereals and a weird curry/slop dish. (The juice containers were also empty so only had water or instant coffee to drink.) Some of the staff have horrible english (Especially the night staff..) and can have trouble resolving problems. overall, a terrible experience and although it may be cheap you can get better for the price in brisbane at the expense of a little bit out of the city,

« Average hotel. Good on a budget. »

A good hotel. Renovation work still going on. There were a few things in the room not working such as one of the cooker stoves a dripping tap but everything else was fixed quickly. Lovely balcony. Comfortable room. Staff were quite reliable and attentive.

« Still renovating but worth a stay »

The hotel has been undergoing renovations for a couple of years but looks like they are nearly complete. I found the rooms to be large, bright and clean and while not furnished with top end furnishings it is very adequate. The location is superb being only a very short walk into the CBD with a very nice park opposite. There is also a free loop bus that goes through Spring Hill to the centre of the CBD - this is very frequent during week days. I would definitely book there again

« Awesome hotel in great location, would definitely stay again! »

We stayed for 3 nights on a holiday to Brisbane, and we really lucked out with this hotel! We booked two weeks prior on WotIf, and got a great discount on a studio on the top floor, which had amazing views. This is definitely a four staff hotel. Our room was nicely decorated and furnished with everything that we needed, and was very clean. The concierge and room service were great, and the free wifi worked well. The hotel is in an excellent location on Spring Hill near the central rail station (travel direct on train from airport), a couple of blocks from downtown, and in a nice location surrounded by parks, including the beautiful Roma St parklands. Only one negative comment - don't buy the hotel breakfast! It's one of the most spartan "continental" breakfasts I've come across, and there is a great cafe over the road (WickED cafe) which does heaps better breakfasts for good prices.

    « A suprising gem »

The first impression was very grand the entry gave feeling of old world grandeur. The foyer was bright a spacious. The rooms were clean and well present and had the amenities need for a short or long stay. The staff were always helpful and requests were followed through in a very timely manner. For an extended stay of 5 nights it was priced reasonably. Centrally located which allowed to me to access all the site I needed to as part of my Study tour.

« Good value for money, excellent location »

Stayed here for one night for work. Managed to check in an hour earlier which was helpful. Location is great ? walking distance to the city and right next to Central Station. There is a small café and small convenience store right next to the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Décor and furnishings were dated and the heating/air-con unit was noisy when on. But most importantly for me, the room was clean and had everything I needed. A small kitchenette area had microwave, sink and toaster. Bathroom had basic amenities and there was a shower and bath. The balcony was good with views over the mountains. There is a small pool and sun loungers but the pool felt very cold so personally I wouldn't use it in Winter. Their wi-fi was free and connection good enough to be able to do work emails etc. Great value for money considering location.

    3
    « Functional and reasonable »

A decent hotel all in all. Dated inside the rooms and around the hotel. But the rooms are decent enough and the beds are comfortable. Located close to the centre. Service was polite although recommendations on what to do in the city were limited. All in all cheaper than a fancy hotel and much better than a hostel, without it being much more expensive than a hostel.

    5
« Great for an overnight stop »

We stayed one night at the hotel. It had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Very clean and comfortable room with all the expected amenities. The balcony had an amazing view over the city. It was spacious enough for a short stay. Have to give a huge mention to the waiter in the hotel restaurant. I think his name was Ganesh (apologies if I have that wrong). He went above and beyond in his service to us. Super friendly and polite and very efficient. The meal itself was delicious and with the convenience of just having to go downstairs it was much appreciated.

    « A great choice »

Every time I am in Brisbane I stay at the Astor Metropole. While the room furniture is a bit old and worn, the rooms are clean, the appliances (oven, cooktop, fridge, microwave, and clothes washer/dryer) are all in great condition. Where else in Brisbane can you get all this, plus a great view and be close to downtown) for this very fair price. Plus the pizza in the restaurant was superb. I will be back!

    « Great Location »

The location is fantastic. The foyer is quite glamorous and we were put in the 4 star tower. Not really 4 star! Rooms very basic but clean. Can hear noise in corridor and people talking as they wait for lift. We had no TV remote and a chap came with a box of spares which did not work, then went to get more but never came back. We were on the 13th floor and views were lovely. Free wifi. Breakfast was simple but enough choice. Paid parking on site. Staff at reception and parking attendants were very friendly.

    « Good location....thats it »

Upon arrival the receptionist didn't seem terribly interested in helping me. He directed me to where to park the car, but still had to "check-in" as the room wasn't ready yet. Went into town for a drink, came back 2 hours later to find room still not ready, so finally another room was organised. We went out for dinner and arrived back around 11pm, -- no towels. Reception asked me to come down to get some, he then escorted me back to the floor i came from to get towels out of a cupboard --no towels. He then said he'd bring me some. 30 mins later they finally arrived. The smell in the corridor was horrendous. Toilet set broken. You could hear every door opening and closing, house keeping trolley. Very noisy. I also left my jacket behind, no courtesy call from the hotel to advise, i rang to make sure it was still there the following day. Upon checking out i had to wait like a criminal to be 'released', while they checked the room. Obviously they weren't very thorough as they would have seen my jacket. Customer service and hygiene don't seem to be this hotels top priority.

« Not a good place to stay »

It might be centrally located and the price is cheap for Brisbane but you are better off spending a bit more and going somewhere nicer. The rooms are not clean, the service was poor, the furnishings look like they came from the Salvos store.

    « A pleasant surprise! »

The Astor Metropole is an unassuming property perched just above a sculpture park on the top end of town. You really have to enter the foyer to see the inviting decor and meet the friendly, helpful staff. Loved our stay!

    « Great location »

Right behind the Central station, great location, easy walking distance to many attractions in the city. They offer breakfast buffet for $20 dollar. They have a free wifi. Not fast enough for skip or viber video call but it is fast enough for browsing and do your Facebook.

« Good value central location »

Have stayed twice in the last month on QG business. Location is excellent for transport to and from the airport on the airtrain. (give or take 86 stairs up next to the park). The motel is not new. I remember it from the 70s. It is, however clean and tidy and one minor problem was fixed by staff immediately and with a smile. The restaurant staff and food are good. Staff throughout the motel are friendly and helpful. We have booked for a return visit in a few weeks time when we need reasonable accommodation close to the city

    « Very central »

The apartments are looking a little on the older side, but the amenities more than make up for it. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, considering we arrived at 11pm.The hotel is very close to the CBD, and a 5 minute walk has you in Queen St Mall. Quiet location, comfortable bed,and a restaurant downstairs.

« Well located hotel in Brisbane »

Had a stay of two days with family for vacation. Strategically located close to Central Station and all the CBD areas being easily accesible by walk. Though completely a new place, were able to reach the hotel from central station at 10.00 pm very quickly. Compact sized room with cooking facilities. The briskness in the front office is in check in / out procedutre highly commendable. Provided with luggage custody facility for a few hours after check out.

Needed somewhere to stay for a short time in Brisbane.unfortunately I would not stay here again.the best thing about the place was the helpful and polite staff.the parking was terrible and the rooms were very dated -bed was terrible.did not see any evidence of a swimming pool?

« value for money and excellent staff »

location is only 5 mins to city center and central station. The rooms were old but thank god they were clean!!! Arjun at reception was very helpful...gave information about local attraction. Overall the experience was excellent only the only disappointing thing was internet.

« worst service i have ever tried »

3 nights stay. Very noisy hotel and dirty rooms. Every night somebody screaming and talking loud near my room. The housekeeping stole some of my things from my room. Reception very unfriendly. No More.

« Kitchen Set in the Regular Room »

This hotel is average. The Wi-Fi is slow that I had to rely on the city council free Wi-Fi and the receptionist sometimes are a bit slow at catching up with the guests. However, the good thing is that even the small room has a fully furnished kitchen set which helps a lot at staying in town within a budget by cooking ourselves. It is located in a very nice place, Spring Hill, which is not too far from downtown Brisbane and Central Station. I might come back in the future.

« No, better value for money elsewhere in cbd »

May be good during summer but just for the pool - outdoor and blooming cold yesterday. The dinner food was disappointing and it was the chefs recommendation ??? Very average and breakfast Buffett had meatballs as their main breakfast food and was not good value for money. Smallish rooms also a negative - no to recommending it to others

« Most satisfying place and exotic meals ... »

A beautiful inner city place for the price with beautiful city view and quality standard of service, also a great exotic meal was prepared by the talented chef,Raj. Acknowledging a friendly staff member, specifically Mr Ganesh for the excellent service and warm welcoming . If you are looking for a reasonable price and high quality service... ASTOR METROPOLE is the place to go!

« Older style hotel in great location »

Recently stayed for 2 nights on business. Spacious room with balcony. Decor a little dated but pleasant enough for price, good value really. Had room service both nights, very good. Bathrooms are dated, hate old style paper dispensers - it is a hotel not a public toilet. Friendly and helpful staff, nothing a problem. Close to most things. Would do again.

« Great location, close to transport and within walking dsitance to Queen St Mall »

24 hour reception with friendly staff. It is a walk up the hill if you arrive by train after 6pm but the hotel is clean and comfortable. Has a restaurant out the front and clean spacious rooms. Free wifi and has small kitchen, microwave - stove top - fridge - sink. Great place to stay if you want to be close to CBD but in quiet location.

    2
« Rip off and misleading. »

Rooms are quite average. The WiFi is free but all websites and apps are blocked. Tv works and beds are provided. Water stains on the room and the smoke alarm, rusted stove top. Should be a top class hotel for the location it is in. 2/10 - IGN Would not play again.

    4
« Centrally located, walking distance to everywhere. »

The room was clean and functional (fridge, toaster, kettle). The floor to ceiling windows gave us a wonderful view of the city. The telephone did not work during our stay, we were told it was being repaired. It was a walk down a steep hill into the downtown, unfortunately uphill on the way back. If you went back to the hotel before 6 p.m., one of the downtown busses passed nearby. Our stay was paid for on Best Western points.

    2
« Amenities not provided as stated »

The amenities at this property provided a microwave however this wasn't working. When the buttons were pressed nothing would start working to heat up the food. Secondly was the issue with the phone system. There was no proper phone working throughout the whole stay and the phone system was broken. Reception were made aware of this but did not explain how housekeeping never reported this prior to the guest's arrival. If housekeeping were being diligent this wouldn't have been an issue when guests checked in.

    « Good Service »

I picked this hotel because of its proximity to St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital. I stayed for three nights and really, considering the cost, I was very happy with my experience. The staff were excellent, from those attending the front desk to the parking attendants. They were happy to oblige with an extended checkout and the storing of my luggage for a number of hours. The room was fine - okay, the furniture was a little outdated; but the bed was comfy and the room had everything I needed for a short stay. There is a small kitchenette area with fridge, oven, hotplates and microwave. No washing machine or dryer, but everything else you would expect. The location is good - especially for medical facilities on Wickham Terrace. Across the road there is parkland and steps down towards the City. Around the corner, there is a bus-stop for the Spring Hill Loop - a free service taking in the City and Spring Hill. My only negative was the strong smell of Indian cooking that I smelt each and every time in the corridor. In the room, thankfully, there was no smell. Overall - more positives than negatives..

« Close to the city but a dump »

The place looks okay from the outside and is close to Central Station but that's about it. The first thing I noticed upon stepping foot onto the 7th floor was the reek of garbage - it was overpowering. Once I stumbled through the 1970's decor and odour I opened the door to my room and BAM! The funk of smokey rotting garbage hit me in the face like a left-jab... the room absolutely stank. I had to air out the smell. And then I soon realised that on top of all this the aircon didn't work whatsoever - in the middle of summer. I should have demanded another room but I was only there for a couple of days, so I tolerated the lack of sleep from the lack of aircon since I didn't want to chance being shoved into an even worse room. I'm glad it was at least close to the CBD!

    « Ms »

The place is a nightmare, it's noisy. You can hear people in the room above banging around. When you walk out of the elevator you get smacked in the face with the smell of garbage. When you get into your room if you can. I had trouble with the swipe card, door wouldn't open. Then you are greated with a cold dirty uninviting room. I booked through hotels combined not best Western and it has no balcony no carpet. Just out dated tiles that look dirty and a cheap nylon dirty rug and a lounge that has seen better days. The curtains and stained with black dirty marks and I pulled the bed side table and the find hair mix with lint and thicken dusty. I feel I'll knowing I have to sleep next to this. Not to mention the dirty mark on sheets. The bathroom is thick mould in the grout and the bottom of the bath is back.... Trust me spend twenty dollars extra and stay somewhere else...

« You get what you pay for »

Stayed here for one night as in city centre and very cheap. The hotel is well located with a direct access straight down to queen street as the park is just across and has stair case straight down. Less than ten minute walk you are in the city. Hotel is slightly dated however I found it clean, tidy and friendly. It's certainly nothing to get excited about and the furnishings and bedding is due a replace. You get what you pay for and this hotel was way cheaper than the others around however served its purpose. If you want modern and fresh it's not for you. If you want cheap, cheerful and close to city it's worth a go if for a night or two.

    1
« Not 4 star quality at all »

You walk into the lobby and it looks nice and recently refurbished, so one would assume that the rooms would be to the same standards, regardless of what room you are in, standard, apartment, suite ect. The room I was in was not, there was no personal touches, no mini bar items, no little soaps or shampoos and conditioners instead was like I was in a public bathroom, using soap out of a wall. The room is large and has a nice size balcony, but that's it, there weren't any information on seeing Brisbane and booklets on the hotels services and things like that, instead they put the hotel's services on the tv, and tv was not good quality either but the information would pass on too quickly and I wasn't able to read about what was to offer. The rooms are outdated and have no homely feeling, when you go on a holiday you want to feel like you're at your home away from home. I work in the hotel industry and know what a 4 star standard hotel should look like, and what they should offer. And this hotel does not even come close, 3 star if they're lucky. Save your money and go some where else, I would've preferred spending more money then staying there for less.

« Close to CBD but that's it »

My partner booked us in we shot out for dinner and drinks. A couple of drinks later we decided to walk back to the hotel. My first reaction was I have gone back in time to the 70's! Ok don't be fussy we are up early in the morning. Pulled the sheets back and to my horror the sheets were so thin I could see the hairs on the mattress and on the sheets... yep they had not been changed. Went to bathroom it was filthy went to management who all of a sudden couldn't talk English. .. finally got another room ... fresh sheets on the bed BUT a used towel on the bed. Checked the bathroom and there was a "floater" in the toilet. Went and slept elsewhere. Sour taste left for our lovely holiday.

    « Mostly very good »

With a very clean and well-built and well-appointed selection of rooms, this was close to 4-star. The bar and restaurant had a limited selection, but the meals were generous and very well prepared. See photo of the Moroccan Beef Salad. Very clean rooms and very good kitchenettes, the only downside was VERY slow internet. Not even up to 1 Mbps. That's right, not even one.

    « Just ok.... »

Stayed here for 2 nights in Brisbane. Its ok....nothing to write home about - nothing particularly good or bad really - just ok. When you walk into the foyer it looks like its going to be really nice, so its a bit of a disappointment really. The rooms are of reasonable size, they have large floor to ceiling windows and the beds are comfy enough. Air con...fridge all you would expect. From what I recall the bathroom was pretty small and it had a weird tap that kept spraying me every time I put it on. Plus side - good location, ten mins from the Centre and it has parking (although there is quite a lot of faffing as the car park has three cars on top of each other, so they have to bring your car up and down) - so don't try and get your car in a rush! Forget the swimming pool - that whole area appeared out of bounds when we were there and peering through the door it looks very small too. Should also say that the staff were also pleasant.

    « Overall a good hotel »

We stayed for two nights at this hotel...The location is perfect, less than 10 minutes walking from city center...you can find a lot of nice restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel offers parking too,but it's not free.It costs 9 AUD per night. Wifi is very very poor.We could connect, and that was kind of it. The breakfast was not the best...not too many options... The room was ok,and the bed very comfortable...although the room would need a few renovations, the furniture is a bit old....and the air conditioning installation,too... But overall we enjoyed our stay there.

    « Terrible Hotel. »

We only stayed two nights and even that was to long. We booked for three people and instead of a standard queen and single bed room, we were given a room with two singles and a sofa bed. The phone inside the room did not work, the air conditioner made a horrible noise, the toilet didn't flush and the toilet role holder was one that you would find in a public bathroom. The staff were unhelpful, unfriendly and did not offer any customer service. Will not be staying there ever again.

« First Class treatment at economic rates! »

My friend and I chose the accommodation based purely on price as funds were limited during our visit to Brisbane. The Astor Metropole was so far below others that we approached with some trepidation wondering just what we were letting ourselves in to! What a wonderful surprise then to find welcoming, helpful and informed concierges! What a surprise to find the room was spacious with everything one could wish for self catering. The room service was excellent as was the catering available in the dining room. Our room had a good sized balcony which was wonderful for eating al fresco and enjoying the evening sunshine. The hotel was located within walking distance of all the main shopping areas in Brisbane with bus stops outside the entrance for travel further to see the wonderful river and its attractions. I would recommend this venue to anyone who enjoys self catering supported by excellent staff at a really competitive price!

« Friendly staff, very basic accommodation »

We had an overnight stay here - chose it as it was close to the venue of our evening out and it was cheap. We came away having relived some scenes from Planes, Trains & Automobiles and our collective sense of humour was given a run for it's money but at the end of the day, it is budget accommodation so don't expect more. Good points: Friendly helpful staff, Walking distance from CBD, Car parking available (for $9) on one of those hydraulic multi-ramp car lift things Nice reception. Comical points: Room was very basic and dated with a musty smell and the balcony door was bolted shut so no fresh air possible. Felt a bit sorry for the table and chairs on the balcony which had no possibility of being used!! (Air con worked well). Hubby had a shower and then discovered there were no towels in the room. I tried to ring reception to get towels sent up but the phone didn't work. Went down to reception to get towels leaving hubby meanwhile to dry himself with the one face washer (in the dark as we only had one key card which I needed for the lift). There were no travel size toiletries. Instead they had dispensers on the wall of the bathroom and shower. Two were labeled and two were not. I managed to wash my hair with shampoo and then again with body wash ... apparently. The ironing board sat diagonally in the wardrobe so hanging clothes had to sort of 'fit in' around it. Nice bed (actually two singles put together) as long as you like a really hard mattress and matching pillows. Not good points: Had to unload the car and leave everything lying on the ground by the hotel back entrance (dress & suit on hangers etc) and then maneuver the car into the allotted spot on the car lift. Went to make a cup of tea to find old lipstick stains on the mug ... urrrgghh! The resident moth seemed to enjoy living there. The carpet out by the lifts had a slight "eau de vomit" about it. The electrical socket in the bathroom was a bit loose. Apparently lack of towels is a bit of a consistent problem.

    « Nice motel »

My daughter and I stayed here while attending a concert at Suncorp Stadium. The motel is walking distance from Central Station and the Queen St Mall. It was convenient to walk from Suncorp to the motel after the concert as we were able to follow the crowd to Queen Street Mall. Our room was clean and contained a kitchenette and a washing machine. The staff member who was on duty during our arrival and departure was lovely. The room was very good value for money compared to others in the vicinity. I'd happily stay here again.

« The worst Best Western room I have stayed in »

We only stayed for one night, thank goodness it was not more, The toilet was broken, the toilet roll holder was a bulk dispenser like you find in public toilets, there were no toiletries in the room no shower cap. The soap and shampoo were bulk dispensers and you had to guess which was which, The guest information booklet did not exist as such only on the in room TV set where you had to be on the right channel to see it move one page at a time through all to get to one that you might want. Finally the bed was the worst I have slept in normally Best Westerns are great. The reception staff were excellent such a shame the hotel itself tarnished the good name of this group

    3
« Good facilities on the edge of Brisbane CBD »

Easy to get to, just a 5 minute walk from Central Near Roma street parklands good for running Good sized rooms Good reception and restaurant service Used the pool in the Brisbane weather On the downside, no free internet, and sometimes could hear noise from the common areas with large groups arrive / depart

Do yourself a favour. Don't stay here. Rooms unclean Staff unfriendly. Over breakfast $19.90 for hot buffet my choice was over cooked egg and bake beans. I had to ask for bacon. Management rules from his reserved table. He really should observe.

While being a well located hotel, room cleanliness needs more attention. I found someone else's hair on the bathroom floor, fruit on the floor behind the sofa bed, soap containers not full nor labeled, full flush not working on the toilet. It reminded me of the old days when such mishaps were half expected!

« Very basic rooms and not very clean »

The front of the hotel was nice enough but the room was pretty terrible. Toilet had stains under the rim, TV remote had filthy old masking tape on the back which would have been full of germs and the room was generally not very clean. Not a nice experience but was pretty cheap so you get what you pay for, I guess.

« A little hesitant to stay, but......!! »

After reading some negative reviews I was a little hesitant to stay but the experience wonderful. I had asked for a quiet room as I was flying out early the following morning to New Zealand. The reception staff found me a great room on the 14th floor...great views across the city/hills...and really quiet. Clean, spacious and comfortable. I often stay over night in Brisbane due to travel, and I have to say this was the best, most convenient place I have stayed in...will definitely be staying again

« A gem in the heart of Brisbane »

We found this hotel in a search on the Internet. We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel to stay when we attended a Ball at the Sofitel and after checking reviews, we decided to book at the Best Western Astor Metropole Hotel which was only 300mtrs away from the venue. We were amazed at our experience and value for money. Efficient check-in, attendants to help you park and take your luggage to the room (not many hotels assist with luggage these days and are happy to allow you to struggle with trolleys and bags by yourself!). The rooms are clean and spacious with a small kitchenette and the king size bed was very comfortable. Walking distance to town and shops. Ticks all the boxes!! Will definitely stay here again :-)

    « Glenda - An excellent stay »

The location and quality of the Astor Best Western is of an excellent standard. Reception staff are genuine, friendly, helpful and professional. They are very welcoming. The facilities provide all that I require and offer good value. Highly recommend.

    « Basic Western »

Not a particular warm welcome, it was midnight no one else but us and the receptionist and was busy finishing off task before they even acknowledge us. Took a while to check in and a lengthy explanation of the $50 security in additional to the payment of the hotel. The breakfast was ok but we would have eaten anything as not eaten the night before due to plane being delayed and not arriving to hotel until midnight. We have stayed before in 2011 and nothing has changed not even the welcome!

« The room was quite old..But kind reception and best parking rate in CBD :D »

Overall, it was an okay stay for an overnight, you would get what you pay for as the room seemed to be getting little old. Otherwise, essentials like shampoo and soap provided but prepare your own conditioner and toothbrush. The hotel has very cheap parking rate, $9 per day. The reception staffs are lovely :) Be mindful that parking lot is situated on the small one way alley right beside the hotel so you would have to go around the hotel and park. Overall, pleasant stay for overnight rest

« A comfortable hotel with friendly staff and close to the city »

I have stayed in this hotel a few times and the staff are very good and unobtrusive. Parking can be a hassle but the room rates are good and it is within walking distance of most places you would want to visit in the City Centre.
