« Great price for a decent quality hotel »

I stayed here for two nights in a single room on the first floor and was happy with the stay. I did not use the hotel facilities as I was out most of the time so I can't comment on them. My room was clean and tidy, fairly modern decor, and in good condition. It was a smallish room but that is often the case in single rooms, yet it was not cramped at all and it was perfectly adequate for what I needed. The high ceilings gave it a spacious feel too. The bathroom was ok, very clean, no damp spots or anything, a bit no frills, but nonetheless it was perfectly clean and functional. The shower runs via the bath taps, but it was still well powered enough and there were no problems with water temperature. The shower handle had to be placed in the holder at quite an angle to prevent it facing too far downwards but I got it sorted ok. Overall I was happy with the stay, it all went smoothly. Just a few small negatives: The window in my room would not shut properly. It could still be locked, but it was clearly not fully shut. It did not effect the temperature too much, but the radiator was on full and is right under the window. There are some sort of church bells which ring each morning starting at 7am with seven rings. and then at 8 with eight rings and so on. If you are a light sleeper and the window doesn't shut fully, this could certainly wake you up. There were occasionally loud pipe noises when people flushed the toilet in other rooms. Also the floorboards were a bit creaky in the room above, but it was not enough to cause any major bother. The fan in the bathroom does stay on for a few minutes after you turn the light off in there. So I just closed the bathroom door afterwards when I went back to bed as the fan noise was a little loud. Just an observation in case people do find those things annoying. Overall, I was very pleased with the hotel. I find cleanliness and quality can be lacking in some places, but no problem with that here. My room was clean and was just right for what I wanted. I've stayed in numerous hotels in Bournemouth and have not always had good experiences, yet the better places were often too expensive, so I feel well qualified to say that when you factor in the price for a couple of nights at the Hotel Royale and compare it to other hotels, it really is a good quality hotel at very reasonable rates. If I do need a hotel whenever I'm in town I would not hesitate to book the Best Western Hotel Royale again.

    « Wedding Reception »

We have just had our Wedding Reception here, the room was laid out beautifully the food wonderful and all our guess could not praise the staff and service we received. I know being a Wedding you may think that's how it should be but the staff expecially Mark who stayed with us the moment we arrived until the end. We would recommend this Hotel to anyone thinking of holding any special event, be it Wedding or Family gathering to book here you would not be disappointed. Thank you all very much you help to make out day very special.

    « Overnight stay »

Visiting family in Bournemouth we needed an overnight stay. The rate at the Best Western Royale was excellent. We arrived late and left early but we had time to have a drink in the Lounge/Bar which was roomy and comfortable. Needed a decent ale at the bar. Our room was clean and comfortable and looked newly refurbished. The bed was a little soft but the water was hot and tea making good. Parking only £2 overnight. Would be happy to return.

    « Weekend break »

Arrived very early as had only travelled a short distance and went to reception only to ask if it was ok to leave my car in car park. The girl in reception was very helpfull and got me do do the paperwork to save doing it later. Then after making some enquiries she advised us our room was ready. Good start. The room was good and the bathroom also. A portable heater was available just in case the radiator was inadequate. Only slight downside being on the top floor and at the end of the hotel the wi fi was hopeless. I could get it if I sat at the room door with the door open just. I was probably in the room furthest away from reception so maybe all other rooms get it. The hotel is well located in easy reach to the beach and front, has a good indoor pool which we used each morning and you get a very good breakfast with pleasant staff. There was no fried eggs left on the last morning at about the only time there was no one present but I was quite happy to have scrambled eggs. On checking out I got a bill for £6.00 for parking for 3 nights which I knew about having read trip advisors reviews before arriving but I would have thought this could be included in the price. Overall good value for money and this hotel is as good if not better than the other hotels I have been in, in Bournemouth. I would definitely consider coming back in the future.

    « 2 day birthday break »

Hotel in a very good location, close to shops and attractions. 15 minute walk to beach and shops. Great sandy beach, lovely for a stroll even on a blustery day as it wakes you up nicely for shopping! Hotel itself was clean and beds comfortable. The rooms could do with an update as were a little tired but it was fine for what we wanted. We booked a two night break with breakfast and dinner on first night included for 6 of us. Added bonus was parking the car in hotel grounds for £2 per day and was free in Sunday. Very helpful staff. Breakfast was plentiful with good choices. Evening meal was average. Pool was ok but you had to go outside the hotel and back inside to get to it which was a little strange and chilly on colder days Overall a pleasant experience.

Great hotel, clean & modern good parking plus within walking distance of the shops and many nice restaurants all types pubs and fast food outlets . Beach very near but not easy to onto because of a cliff., town lots of parking but not cheap

    « Not great »

Postives first: the staff were absolutely lovely, and the breakfast was great. Room was really clean. Negatives: our toilet seat was broken with a giant crack straight through it, it actually cut my leg. The toilet didn't flush properly either (grim). The taps didn't work properly. The shower had no water pressure and I only seemed to be able to make it boiling hot or freezing cold. It was ok for a couple of nights but at the price we paid I expected a useable bathroom.

« Excellent venue for a family gathering. »

We booked this hotel for a family gathering and the service for the initial meeting to the event was excellent. Lisa, the sales manager we great to deal with, offered us advice and accommodated our requests in a very friendly way. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and caring, checking in with us during the event to ensure all was ok and responding to any requests we had on the day. Altogether a wonderful experience and one we would highly recommend. We also stayed at the hotel for three nights, getting a great deal by booking a leisure break direct with Best Western, the room was good, although we did request a change from the original one allocated but the reception staff were very helpful in ensuring we were happy. The buffet breakfasts were very good and the staff in the restaurant were very good too. Altogether, a very pleasing experience.

    « Very pleasant stay »

Went as two couples for a short break. We have stayed in many hotels In Bournemouth over a number of years some good some not so good, this one was very nice. As my brother in law uses a mobility scooter we asked to stay in the chalets at the rear of the hotel which we were very pleased with, the rooms were very large, warm & spotlessly clean. On the point of mobility it is difficult to get into the entrance if you have mobility problems i.e no ramp so he had to get up/down the steps on crutches but he managed it. I know that the hotel doesn't claim to be disability friendly so we were not too surprised but worth bearing in mind. Breakfast was very good & plentiful with nice choice. Would definitely stay again.

    « Very Good Value »

This hotel seemed too good to be true but I tried it anyway. It turned out to be a gem, Very good value for money with clean rooms, helpful staff and a very good dining experience. If on business or just for pleasure I would highly recommend this hotel

« Great value for money »

Clean, comfortable hotel. Great location for Bournemouth and surrounding areas. Good selection of items for breakfast. Public areas are very clean and tidy. Room was a little tired but very comfortable.

    « A pleasant surprise »

Taken away for a birthday treat by my son I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this hotel. Beautifully clean and very relaxing it offered everything for a good stay. Warm and welcoming with friendly staff. This was an overnight stay but would certainly go again for longer.

    « Awful. »

Not really sure where to start! The room was small, and everything creaks. The floor worst of all, but also the bed, chair, door... the radiators were locked on full and the thermostats had been removed so we had to spend all night with the windows wide open. This in turn meant we were barraged with a cacophony of sound from the hotel entertainment until 1am as well as the sounds from Bournemouth centre. Would absolutely never book again. Just awful.

« Nice Hotel and Pleasant Staff »

Stayed here as a stopping point from London to Cornwall. The Hotel is clean and comfortable and has a swimming pool which my daughter loved. A speacial mention for the lady from Madrid (whose name I forget) behind the bar who worked so hard to get the gas sorted for the draught lager and Guinness and was customer service personified. The only negative is that the one lift is very small and can be very busy in the mornings which can be difficult if, like my partner, you are disabled.

    3
« Chalet Rooms not brilliant »

Having pre-booked a double room we checked in to find we'd been allocated a family room in their Chalet Rooms ( not in the hotel, but round the back). Large room was clean but the shower ran hot and cold so much, we had to run a bath instead. It was pouring down the next morning and we had to walk round the hotel to the front entrance to go for breakfast - no back route in. We were soaked! However the breakfast was excellent.! Would stay again, but would request a room inside the main hotel.

    « Fabulous break! »

Couldn't fault this hotel, the staff were so helpful and friendly. Our three course evening meal was excellent as was the breakfast. The room was fairly basic, but very clean. The standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel was very good. Look forward to returning in the Spring for another fabulous break!

    « A little gem really »

We were not expecting much for the price we paid for bed and breakfast with Booking.....however we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is well located, we were impressed by the helpfulness and friendliness of the receptionist, she ticks all the boxes for customer service and I hope management realise what an asset she is to the business. For what we paid the room was great, we have stayed in grander and prettier, but this was comfortable, clean and had everything we wanted, even the hairdryer was good quality which is always a plus. The only thing that was lacking was light - switching on the main light just gave a feeble glow, but that was just a little thing. The lounge area of the hotel is very pleasant. Breakfast was really good. We will definitely visit again.

« What you would expect from a Best Western hotel »

Was amazed I got such a good price going through Laterooms.com. I have stayed here before and was glad i could stay again and made good use of the swimming pool which is free to use. on site parking and very near to the beach and a short walk to the town centre

    « Brilliant hotel. »

First visit we stayed in the room overlooking the front door with a balcony. It was large, we'll decorated and clean. Best room I think they have and it was really quite cheap for what it was. Second visit was in what appears to be an annexe at the back. Room was much more simple yet more expensive. Luckily it was closer to the carpark as I was in and out quite a lot. Can't really fault this hotel... Staff were efficient and rooms were more than acceptable. Check for good rates first because it'll seem much more worth the visit!!

    « 50th Wedding Anniversary Dinner »

We held our 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Best Western Hotel Royale on the 29th Oct.. The staff were efficient and friendly. The dinner was excellent and our guests all commented on the superb standard of the food. The rooms are a bit dated but very clean and tidy. Organisation of the event was faultless, a particular mention for Lisa, nothing seemed to be too much trouble to her and her team. All in all we all had a great time and we recommend the hotel for this type of event.

    « 'Welcome Break' »

The Best Western, Hotel Royale. We stayed in an executive suite, well worth the upgrade. Cosy, warm, tea and coffee in the room, dressing gowns. Pristine. Perfect. A leisurely swim in the hotel indoor pool. The restaurant was first class. Food cooked to perfection. Both at dinner and breakfast. Staff were very helpful. All staff really went out of there way to please. Highly recommend this hotel and it is located in lovely area.

« Best in Bournemouth and not expensive »

I'm not sure but I think our purchasing lady nailed this for a bit over £200 for four nights including breakfast. Something of a steal. OK last week was still half term and the staff here tell me there were children everywhere and screaming and it was horrible. However I am here this week, thankfully. So this (not half term week) everything is calm. I have got a great room. Service is great. Food is amazing and not expensive. I had "Asian styled pan fried tiger prawns" a chef signature dish. Totally amazing for a tenner. With a Marlborough Sauvignon for under £20. Well happy. This really is the best value decent hotel in Bournemouth and I am here all week so I will let you know if they drop the ball at any point. Can't see it happening though. If there is any complaint, it is the £2 a day/night charge for parking. Of which there is plenty by the way. Why not just add it to the bill? So what I should really be saying so I can continue to book in at a drop of a hat at low prices and get amazing service is that it is horribly, dirty and the staff really don't care. But honestly, that just would not be fair. This is a genuinely good hotel which outside of peak times is really competitive with great food and service.

« GOOD HOTEL GOOD LOCATION »

I have stayed at this hotel a lot, and always go back due to location and price point. Short walk to the pier, and then a bit further into the centre of the City! Breakfast is good and the staff are always pleasant and helpful. There is a pool if you fancy a swim.

    « Would I stay again? Probably »

Great location, nice looking, pine trees and friendly squirrels entertained the kids. Very friendly front staff, mark the bartender is a great asset (offers good advice on anything you ask). Faults: parking is limited and god help you if there is a conference going on in the hotel on the same day you arrive. But Mark sorted us out temporary parking. Evening meal was more like school dinners but hey if your school was Eton you won't complain! Breakfast closes at 9:30am? Really am I still at school or am I on a family holiday? Managed to let the restaurant manager let us sit and eat the leftovers not eaten by the generation of early birds, singles and insomniacs. Bedroom had a divan double that was in two parts and moved around (when kids on it, honest!) bunk beds were amusing to the kids at first but room was so hot our seven year old refused to sleep in it, so daddy had to swap which brought back memories of the iron beds from the 60s i slept in but they had more room and more comfort. Floor boards in the whole building squeak even if one the resident squirrels came in, so at least the cat burglars and the pink panther would struggle stealing my sons Pringles. Swimming pool is a great asset but do mind the chlorine is a bit strong for the young ones. Ps. Switch off the alarm clock in your room if you have your own alarm as it can go off without you knowing.

    « A pleasant stay »

Yet again my wife and I enjoyed our short stay at the Hotel Royale. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the bar food was good and quickly served. We shall not hesitate to return. It is within easy reach of buses and trains for easy transport to places of interest.

    « Great Stay »

My wife and I stayed here October 14th/15th 2016. Staff are very polite and helpful. There's a lovely friendly young lady who welcomes you into breakfast. I think she's Portugese? Our room was in the chalet part of the Hotel located opposite the swimming pool. The room was very clean and large. The T.V. is a bit small from the bed. The location is good. 13 minute walk to Pavillion Theatre. Great walking down the hill, but hard work coming up it. The breakfast was good. Lots of variety and dishes were restocked swiftly. Reception gave us extra milk, coffee and tea. You never get enough with any hotel. We will certainly be returning. We used to stay at the Wessex hotel but we will now choose here first. Summary, good staff, and definitely worth revisiting!

    « Pleasant break »

This hotel is in a very good location and is within easy walking distance of both the beach and the town centre. Poole is a 20 minute drive away and well worth a visit as the harbour area is well populated with restaurants and shops with a very good promenade. A trip over to Brownsea Island can be taken while you are there, the Brownsea Castle/Hotela is very nice although if staying there, options for recreation on the island are limited as there is not ab awful lot to do other than relax and walk. As far as the Hotel Royale is concerned we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. A minor issue with the allocated room on arrival was soon resolved with a move that was arranged by the lady who is head of housekeeping/rooms. She was extremely helpful and did everything possible to make our stay a memorable one.The half board deal was very good value for money as the breakfast and evening meals were excellent. Options to vary dinner from the set menu attracted a small supplement but did not in anyway detract from the many positives of this hotel and only enhanced the quality of the menu.. I would not hesitate to visit again. Another plus is that there is ample gated car parking so no problem with distance to or from hotel and vehicle security. A very nice all round break.

« Ground floor lovely, rest of hotel needs work »

We stayed here on a last minute couples break, the reception and bar area were very well decorated and there was a good selection of drinks on offer. We had wanted a Superior Room, however unfortunately they were full so we had a standard double, small but adequate, with bonus of balcony at front of hotel. Unfortunately our room was on the first floor above the Reception area, we heard thumping music throughout our stay, and on ringing reception at half past 7 on Sunday morning (!!!!!) once it got too much. Reception immediately suggested turning the music down in the bar which worked and makes us think it's a common problem. The weather was particularly bad when we stayed, with severe downpours and strong winds through the night, this also resulted in our roof springing a leak in the early hours of the morning, it really was the last straw and references to Fawlty Towers were made. Despite our annoyances we would stay again, the staff were lovely and hotel ok - just not on the first floor!

    « Lovely Food....shame about the room !!! »

We booked this hotel thro Great Little Breaks who gave us a very good deal on a 2 night stay. The hotel has a very good position with a very good car park. The deal included breakfasts and a 3 course evening meal which were excellent. The restaurant was a lovely room with nice décor. The bedroom was a standard double which was small ,dull, drab and very much needed upgrading. The staff were all very nice and efficient. The bar was also in a nice room with good seating . I would stop here again at the right price if visiting Bournemouth which would be doubtful anyway because the resort has really deteriorated and was a bit of a let down !!!

    « Weekend break »

We arrived late on Friday evening and were a little disappointed with our room - it was very small and very dated. Unfortunately we were woken up at 5.30am by the sound of banging central heating pipes from the room above. We contacted Reception straight away and they went to investigate the problem. It was a problem with the central heating in the room above. However, the problem was dealt with straight away and was reported to the Manager. We spoke with the Manager at breakfast and he was very apologetic. He moved us to another room which was much better than our original room and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine with our dinner. Even though we had a disturbed night we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff were all lovely and the food was amazing.

Very welcoming staff; good food which is not too expensive and friendly service. Overall an excellent place to stay and a great location to get to the town centre or even the beach. Will be going back again!

    « Brilliant. »

Had a lovely time at the hotel, rooms were clean and well maintained, staff were fantastic and very professional, they couldn't do enough for us. Food was a delight. Would definitely go back and recommend. 5 minute walk from town centre everything on the doorstep.

    « We'll be back! »

We tried this place, simply because several of our favourite hotels in Bournemouth were fully booked for the dates we wanted. As it happened, it certainly turned out to be a good omen! The hotel is lovely, with courteous and efficient staff. The bedroom was very clean, well appointed and tastefully furnished. Although situated off the sea front, the building is only a few minutes stroll away from the promenade. Both breakfasts and evening meals were of excellent quality. All the staff (including reception, restaurant and housekeeping), were noticeably courteous and helpful. This was particularly so in the dining room. Everyone here was superb, but Niemes has to receive a special mention. She worked tirelessly, and nothing was too much trouble ? thank you! This is not an unduly ?trendy' hotel, but its general all round quality would be difficult to beat. There have been some past reviews saying that the decor is ?very tired', and that it hasn't been decorated for over 30 years ? well that's complete and utter nonsense! I would say the place is pretty immaculate. And to the lady who claims the hotel reminds her of her granny's home in the seventies ? well I would say ?Lucky old granny' - (Maybe she lived in Beverley Hills)! The pool looked very good (although I did not use it this time). The car park was quite busy, but there was always space available somewhere to park the car. Non ? refundable advance booking room rates were quite reasonable, so I can certainly say ?WE'LL BE BACK' ! Please see my photographs.

« Friendly and helpful staff »

We arrived a bit early but the Receptionist let me check in. She was very professional and pleasant. As were all the staff we had dealings with. As there was no iron or ironing board in the room we had to ask for one to be brought to the room. This was done with no fuss. I have stayed here before and as before the water pressure on the shower was still low. But at least it worked and was warm.

    5
    « Consistently good »

We like the Royale for its cheerful welcome, spotlessly clean rooms and lovely food excellently presented It feels comfortable and the staff are brilliant. Evening meals are well-cooked and tasty, the buffet breakfast is likewise well presented with a great range of fare available It's not pretentious, it's presented as a three star but operates like a four star, well located just minutes from the town and cliff / promenade walks

« Amazing weekend at a perfect hotel »

This hotel has the most friendly helpful staff anyone could ever wish for... They would go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The downstairs decor was very modern and comfortable. The bedroom we had was very very clean but a little on the tired side.. The mattress is a spring kind and not that comfy although saying that I did sleep well (must be the sea air). We ate in the restaurant both evenings and the food was delicious and piping hot.. We met the chef Andy who went above and beyond his duty to make us something special.. There were 8 people in our party and all of us were very happy with our stay and would defiantly stay again.

We have spent an amazing 3 nights here. The room is absolutely fab. Couldn't wish for better. The breakfast is buffet style with continental and cooked options. The staff are all extremely attentive and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We ate in the restaurant this evening and the food was freshly cooked to perfection. We will definitely stay here again.

« Best hotel in Bournemouth »

I stayed here firstly in May, followed by a break October. The hotel staff are very welcoming, they will go out of their way to make sure you have a good stay. The breakfasts are superb. In the evening you have a lovely lounge area. The young lady serving in the bar area is a caring, person. The hotel is placed in a lovely area and is located near the beach and the bus station.

    « A Real Gem »

This hotel is fantastic! I stayed here for 5 nights. The staff, room, food, and location was perfect. The staff was excellent. Always helpful and friendly. They couldn't do enough for you! I found their recommendations for restaurants and a spa were fantastic.I had a double room that was huge. Plenty of floor space, storage and a fantastic bath/shower! The food and service in the restaurant was good, but the food in the bar/lounge was even better and a price wise a very good deal. The location was perfect. A nice neighborhood quiet area. Less then a 5 minute walk to East Overcliff and a very easy walk to the pier/beach. It was a fifteen minute walk to the Train/Bust stations. Also it is a 5 minute walk to a business area with plenty of shops/restaurants and Bournemouth University. I would definitely stay here again!

« Lovely Hotel - Fits the BW model »

One thing you can be assured of is a particular standard with Best Western. The Royale fitted into this category. It wasn't anything to write home about but it did what it said it would do. Very comfortable, clean (most important in my view) and the rooms were big enough. The breakfasts are typical and delicious. No faults whatsoever.

    « I liked it! »

I kind of like this place! There's every reason to think it's just another run of the mill Bournemouth hotel. And it is! But it's a good one. Everything works. The staff are attentive and helpful. And it does what it says on the tin. No complaints at all. And good value to boot!

« Nice and walking distance to the beach »

We stayed at this hotel for one night while visiting Bournemouth. It was very close to the Beach, staff are friendly and polite. We enjoyed the breakfast and indoor pool. We had a family room with bunk beds for the boys. A little hiccup on our first night when the bath wouldn't drain but this was quickly rectified and I was given the key to use the bath in another empty room. Communication prior to check in was very good and nice welcome by the manager. I asked for a fan and was given one straightaway. Overall we had a great time and would stay at the Best Western Hotel Royale again.

    « 28 Jolly Boys on Tour »

Booked on a B & B basis for 28 golfers over 4 nights. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Twin rooms in main hotel more than adequate for two guys sharing, bathroom slightly dated, could do with new power shower as I had to run round in the bath to get wet. Facilities in the room very good, ample storage space, decent Wi Fi throughout the hotel. Breakfast good choice of juices fruits cooked food etc.

    « lovely indoor pool »

Stayed here in early september 2016,booked a chalet at the back of the hotel but directly opposite the indoor pool which is free to use as part of the package. The room was a great size and the bathroom too.The room was cleaned every day very friendly staff. Booked bed & breakfast, plenty of choice of food & well presented ,again friendly staff made you feel welcome .Unfortunately had to leave one night early ,there was a small issue with the final bill when checking out but dealt with very professionally by the staff.

    « Dissapointing »

My husband and I stayed at the Royal for a mid week break .i must say advertisements for this hotel vary , with some sites saying 4 star while others rating it 3 star. Having read the facilities and amenities I opted for the Royale as it stated it had a leisure complex and indeed it did show a lovely pool. Reality I'm afraid is very different. As soon as we arrived (the room I'll come to in a minute) we decided to cool off and go for a relaxing swim. No such luck! Half the pool was roped off and a child was having a swimming lesson, that I could cope with but to have the trainor constantly shouting instructions made for a not so relaxing time. Another 4 people joined us in the pool and no one could swim a length. It was too crowded with only half of the pool to use( it's not THAT BIG) to begin with. The changing facilities looked like they had been tacked on to the side of the pool, very basic and that was the sum of the "leisure facilities" on site. I may add you could use other hotel facilities but who wants to pass from hotel to hotel when seeking a leisurely swim?. And I don't know what they consist of. I asked at reception if there was a quieter time to swim and she said everyday from 10am to 12pm the pool is closed for private lessons but we went at4pm and had the aforementioned debacle. A shame as this was the key point of booking this hotel . The room was very small and the decor pretty tired although it looked like the bathroom had been updated of a sort. The shower however was a pipe on the taps with the knob that changes it from tap to shower. Twice we had to ask for another bath towel as only one was left and also for the tea/ coffee etc to be replenished. Toiletries were not readily forthcoming either and only replaced once during our stay. The hotel is on a very noisy road and every floorboard creaks so sleeping was a problem. We only eat breakfast so I cannot comment on other meals but the breakfast was good but basic. The bar prices are expensive too. One positive point though was the staff, they were polite and friendly and tried to help as much they could even if at times the language barrier was a problem.Bournemouth is a lovely place but I'm afraid the Royale made our time there disappointing.

We were given an upgrade, but in hindsight I am not sure if that was a positive thing. The room was very hot. The heating in the bathroom was on. No airconditioning. Moreover there was a charity event one level lower with loud, terrible music that lasted the whole evening. I went to the reception desk to ask how long this would last. The receptionist couldn't answer, but she said that I could speak to the manager. I waited for 10 minutes but he never turned up. I cannot recommend this hotel.

    « Silver anniversary stay. »

As it was a special occasion for us organized by our daughters we received an excellent welcome, bucks fizz, chocolates & card! Room was clean, the dining & lounge areas were modernly decorated. All staff were very friendly. We experienced a small hiccup with breakfast in bed on our anniversary morning but was immediately rectified by the manager Franklin who bent over backwards to turn the situation around, it could have completely marred our day but as it turned out we had the best day ever! Thank you Franklin for being so lovely. I'm sure we'll be returning in the near future.

    « Wedding »

After having my engagement party in April at The Cumberland Hotel, which was such a success, we had to book our Wedding Ceremony and Reception at their sister hotel The Royale. The whole weekend from Thursday to Sunday was given every attention to detail. Wedding coordinators Lisa and Brian, Jenny, Mark and all the other staff on reception, bar, restaurant and wedding function were attentive, efficient, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding at breakfast each morning and throughout the wedding function. It was with great thought that the hotel kept our wedding party close together at the front of the hotel and close to the function room so we did not have far to go to our rooms. The room we had was very comfortable and well equipped. Such a fantastic venue for any occasion. Well done The Royale Hotel and The Oceana Group.

    « Overpriced and dissapointed »

We paid £163 for a tiny room that was worth no more than £60. Upon arrival we given a note to say there would be a loud party until 1am.... Breakfast was average, the room was so small and no chance of sleeping until around 2am.... Oh and on top of that they want to charge you for parking there.... Never staying again.... Completely ripped off.

« Wedding inconvenient for everyone else »

On checking in, I was told that there was a wedding in progress and there would be extra noise going on until after midnight. What can you do in such circumstances? Move to another hotel? It would be too much hassle to try to get another room at such short notice, and why should you? The hotel should ensure that the wedding does not cause upset to other guests, surely? Unfortunately the inconvenience of the wedding started quite early. The guests spilled out of their reception room and took over the bar. The bar staff were not able to cope so I was not able to get served. I gave up! Dinner was a very pleasant surprise. The food was fresh, tasty, and piping hot and the staff were very attentive. My room was expensive and quite sad. The decor and bathroom were stuck in the 70s. Both were clean but I think the price of the room led me to believe it would be a much nicer experience. The wedding did indeed go on until after midnight and it was not possible to sleep until the music stopped. The hotel is highly priced and unfortunately does not merit these elevated prices. For the money I would have expected a nicer more modern room, without the noise and inconvenience of the function room. And to be charged for parking your car is excessive.

    « Excellent Hotel »

I was looking forward to showing my wife Bournemouth, I used to Holiday here, not been for 30 plus years. We could not have been happier with the Royale. Everything was very professional, very clean, and excellent helpful staff. We had an evening meal on our first night which was first class. Equally breakfast for the 2 following mornings was superb. Beds were very comfortable, we did not get to use the pool as we were to busy out and about. I have now put this on my top 3 hotel list. We so much wanted to stay another 2 nights but sadly it was booked ( our follow on hotel was so poor we did not even stop and are now back at home wishing we were still at the Royale) Thanks Gaetano we will definitely see you again soon, and get some inside information on Sorrento before we go next year. Grazie amico mio, e arrivederci a presto.

What great value for money. We arrived on Friday and our package included dinner and two breakfast. As it was included we thought dinner would be a average meal WRONG..main meal was excellent and plenty of it and desert was very tasty. Can recommend the fish pie and apple, cinnamon and sultana crumble also the sweet and sour pork and the huge cheese board. Staff were excellent and although they weren't hovering they were there when each course had finshed. The room was a little small but perfect for a two night stay also very clean.

    « Wonderful weekend break »

One of the best things about this hotel as opposed to many others in Bournemouth is that there is ample parking! We went on August bank holiday weekend and always managed to go out and back to park with no problems ( unlike other hotels in the area.) The breakfast was fantastic and very good selection , we did not stop for evening meal but the restaurant was very nice. The Manager staff were very friendly and helpful and managed to get us a room close to my sister who was also stopping there . The indoor Pool was clean and tidy with sun beds outside in a nice garden area. rooms were very nice - clean and well kept. We would defo come back ! Thank you

    « Comfortable hotel »

I have just returned from 4 nights at this hotel. The staff are extremely helpful, nothing being too much trouble. My friend and I had single rooms - I have to say hers, in the newer part of the hotel was more spacious than mine, so if I return, which is very likely, this would be a request. Also wifi was unreliable in the room. Breakfast was delicious except it could have been a bit hotter. The lounge is comfortable with plentiful seating. We had one dinner - of a very high standard.

« dated but professional establishment »

I tend to be wary of Best Western, not having had the best experiences in the 90s/00s of them but this was much better. No problem parking, grand-ish entrance and professional reception, plus I'd been upgraded from a single room to a double! The room was rather dated but homely (reminded me of visiting my grandma in the 1970s!) but the ensuite was up-to-date and both room and en-suite were exceptionally clean. Loved the pool! It was a lovely temperature and a decent size. Breakfast - a good selection of healthy options plus good sausages in the full English and decent coffee. For the price I paid via Trip Advisor, I'd say I got a bargain! The only downside - and a biggie at that - is that the place seemed to creak and groan all night as if wood was expanding/contracting which meant that I didn't get a good night's sleep.

    « Childhood memories »

I visited this hotel for the first time when I was about 7, it was known then as the Anglo Swiss. I was looking forward to see its changes and maybe recognise some of it. Reception staff were efficient. We had a nice sized room on the second floor. Unfortunately the view was of a dirty stairwell with lots of pigeons. On the plus side the mattress was comfortable and we had a lovely newly decorated bathroom. OverAll a lovely room. The pool was lovely and warm. It was the original outdoor pool turned indoor. Sufficient for our needs. Bar area lovely and modern, would be nice to see the rest of the hotel a bit more updated, but it was very clean. Staff couldn't do enough for our needs. Overall very nice hotel and we would stay again,

    « A great choice - book with confidence »

I recently stayed for two nights at the BW Royale. There were three adults and three children in our party. The family room in the hotel had a double bed and two bunk beds, the room in the adjacent chalet block had a double and a single. The chalet room was really spacious and clean. Beds were comfy too. However the room was way too hot despite the provision of a fan and the shower was weak. The main hotel room was much smaller but had no real negatives. The staff are great, really friendly and the breakfast (our only meals) were excellent. Special mention for the indoor pool which we had to ourselves and enjoyed immensely. A splendid decent value hotel amongst so much dross in Bournemouth.

    « Very good hotel »

Lovely 4 night stay at Hotel Royale. Easy to find off ring road. Ample car parking which cost £2 per day. Although hotel was full we always managed to find a space. Great location, 10 mins walk to the beach and shops/restaurants. Rooms not massive but big enough for 2 people. Flat screen TV, tea/coffee making facilities and hair dryer in room. Complementary shower gel and shampoo in bathroom. Room cleaned every day. Hotel very clean throughout. Has a heated swimming pool and towels were provided at reception. We didn't eat in the restaurant as was a bit pricey. Staff were really friendly, special mention to the two Italian ladies in reception who found my attempt at speaking Italian amusing and the manager Gaetano De Rosa who was really helpful and welcoming. Lift was small, only holds two people but we didn't find this an issue. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we would stay there again.

« Really good stay at The Best Western Hotel Royale »

I recently stayed at this hotel for a two night break. Bearing in mind it was the school holidays I felt the price we paid was good for a family room. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the beach and town but there are some restaurants and shops more locally. The hotel charges £2.00 per night for car parking. The swimming pool is lovely with plenty of seating inside the pool area and outside in the gardens. The staff were exceptionally good throughout the whole hotel. We're looking forward to our next visit.

« Lovely comfortable chalet for our family short break »

Upon arrival we checked in with the friendly reception and took the lift to our room. We were excited to open the door and see inside...eek...it was very small with not much room for the 3 of us and our cases. The reception rang to ask if all was ok...I said..(not wishing to complain but I would've cried if we had to stay in there)..."Er...um...eek..kind of but the room is hot and a bit too small".., reception asked us to come view another room that we might be happier with. We were shown to a row of chalets at the back of the hotel which looked lovely with their little individual outside seating areas with tables, inside was sooo much bigger, airier, with double bed, single bed, table and chair, desk, plus much larger bathroom. Yes...this was so much better phew!!! We all had a very happy and comfortable stay in the chalet parking our car just outside. Breakfast was very nice aside from a couple of aspects but perhaps that's just my personal taste, examples: bacon, eggs, tomatoes...all very nicely cooked. I found the button mushrooms to be watery as you bit into them which made me wonder if they were frozen not fresh. The sausages tasted a bit plain and perhaps frozen too. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, they all smiled and made us feel very welcome.. lovely. The beds were super comfy. The location was easily walkable to local shops, restaurants, beach, The Square, pier, bike hire (on the beach). The pool was clean, great size, shallow with steps and handle-bar approx. 1 meter to deep-end 2 meters deep, showers, towels, loungers, very nice and right opposite the little chalets. Overall we had a lovely little break here. We would happily stay here again although you sure cannot beat staying in a hotel with a sea view so we would prefer a hotel along the actual coastline next time.

    « Great Service »

I brought my mother here because I found it caters for disabled people. But even I was surprised by the amazing attitude of the staff. The hotel has a special stair lift which meant mum didn't have to walk in through the front. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Mum and I felt supported by them the whole time. We found a few teething problems quickly fixed. I have a gluten intolerance and they were anxious to assist me with it. As this we the first time in this hotel we were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the rooms.

    « Wonderful Stay »

We stayed with the oceana group hotels over the August Band holiday weekend and can only say it was a wonderful experience. The group consists of four hotels next to each other which allow guests to utilise facitiies of all whenever you like . Our stay could have gone in a completely different direction however The character and attitude of Gaetano De Rosa, The Manager at The Best Western ensured the issues maintenance and Third party reservations created caused no bother at all . His generosity and Kindness are a fantastic trait which is something evident not just with himself but shines though with his entire team. Comments like ?Come and eat in my restaurant whenever you feel? and Please use all the facilities my hotel has? made you feel you weren't just staying in hotel but you were in his care and staying in his home - Fantastic. Julia Sulimenko, Manager at The Suncliffe, Once again a lady who genuinely cares about her guests and wants their stay to be as enjoyable as possible- helpful in every way. We may well be repeating ourselves but the culture of all the staff is to make sure you enjoy your stay - customer service is second to none. If you suffer from food allergies, you're in safe hands - theres a very good understanding of the seriousness of food allergies as well appropriate measures in place to ensure risks are minimised, to the point we were even offered to bring some of our known allergen free ingredients which chef happily prepared for our young daughter. Small touches like allowing us to have use of the hotels fridge facilities so that specially prepared childrens foods could be stored safely showed the staffs level of understanding and compassion. The hotel genuinely does welcome families and children. We dined in The Cumberland, The Best Western Royale and The Suncliffe. Breakfast and Dinner are lovely well presented and most importantly delicious. The team work tirelessly for your pleasure, Food is extremely good and between all four hotels you have the opportunity to Use an indoor swimming pool outdoor swimming pool Sauna Gym Jacuzzi etc? not to mention you are a lovely 10 minute stroll into Bournemouth promenade. Thank you Everyone !!!

    « Good hotel »

This was a return visit to the Royale. The staff were friendly and attentive and our room was ready ahead of the standard check in time, which was great. The hotel has a good position in the East Cliff area a short walk from the beach and about a 10 to 15 minute walk into the town. Food in the restaurant was good, breakfast was help yourself buffet. For dinner one night we did not want a huge meal and we were allowed to have a couple of items from the starter menu, which was plenty as we had been eating all day at a function. Would definitely return to the Royale.

    « Short stay »

Good hotel staff very helpful but the wifi is very erratic. Must mention the hotel operational manager Mr De Rosa very professional and made us feel special. Breakfast was excellent lots of choice and we dined at the restaurant one evening and food was very good. Location wise very near the beach and to the restaurants and clubs. Would stay there again. « Excellent service »

Returned here for a second time after a few years. Booked an "executive twin" room, which was a lot better than a standard double. The staff were excellent; as well as being professional, they were friendly, even though they were often busy. The breakfasts were enough to last you through the day! Would be thinking about returning again in the "off season" and if so would have the "Royale" in mind!

« Bucket and spade holiday »

My husband and I decided to take our granddaughter to the seaside for a short bucket and spade holiday. We wanted an hotel with a swimming pool and within walking distance of the beach. The Royale suited us all down to the ground. Parking was £2 per day, which we didn't begrudge the hotel as there was plenty of room and the car was safe. It would have been difficult to have parked elsewhere in the town without worrying about the car. Staff were really pleasant and helpful, other guests were relaxed and friendly. Our room was a good size and incorporated a double bed and a single with ease. Bathroom suited us well, was clean and a good size. Breakfast was buffet style with good choice and food was replenished whenever necessary, even up to the end of the session. Dinner in the evenings was well-cooked and enjoyable with a good children's menu. The pool was just the right temperature for a lengthy swim with a good amount of shallow water (1 m) one end and also deeper water for the good swimmers. We used the pool every day and it was never crowded. Swimming towels were provided from reception and left in a basket by the pool after our swim, very useful. There were two other 'sister' hotels where we could have used the facilities. We visited The Cumberland and would have used the open-air pool which looked good but the beach was calling. We had a pleasant walk down the zig-zag path to the miles of sandy beach, we built sand castles near the lifeguards and splashed in the shoreline. The Royale is within easy walking distance of the town, gardens and pier, all of which we visited. We stayed for 3 nights, found it very good value, and would be happy to return with, or without, our granddaughter.

    « lovely, welcoming hotel. »

My husband & I have just spent 3 nights dinner, bed & breakfast here. I cannot rate it highly enough. Although not 'flashy' it is VERY comfortable. The customer service was faultless, with a special shout out to Katerina, Franclim & Mark. We had a standard bedroom, which although a little small, was comfortable & spotless. We ate in the restaurant every night & there was plenty of choice, even considering that I have to be careful with eggs & gluten, food allergy advice was readily available. The food was well cooked & hot. The panna cotta was the best I've ever had. Breakfasts were on a self service basis & the selection was excellent and again everything was hot. The hotel has an indoor pool, although we didn't have time to use it. Towels are provided for the pool so you don't have to bring your own. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the pier & the great beach. There is parking on site with a small daily charge of £2. Again I can't rate this hotel or it's friendly staff highly enough & we will definitely be making a return visit!

« Bournemouth for the air display »

If I had known Bournemouth better I would still have found it hard to get a hotel nearer to the air display. We were within one minutes walk and found it very handy. The staff were all excellent. The weather was not as good as we had expected but our room was very comfy and the lounge and bar area was very welcoming.

The Hotel is ideally situated 10 min. Walk to Bournemouth pier and 20 min. walk to Boscombe pier. The Hotel has a spa and indoor pool.We ate in the restaurant and the food and staff were first class. The room we stayed in had a veranda so we could sit out after diner. I would recommend this Hotel.,it is part of a group of four Hotels in the same area, so you can use their fascilities.

« Nice hotel, good location »

Enjoyed our recent stay, friendly efficient staff, although the room was on the small side, it was clean and comfortable, lovely breakfast with plenty of choice, I would like to point out though the lift was tiny only room for two, and it was a struggle with ours bags, and also disappointed they did not have the lamb shank available for our evening meal in the restaurant, but the food that we did have was very enjoyable. Close to town and beach.

    5
    « Great weekend! »

A lovely hotel with excellent service and very helpful staff. The breakfasts are fantastic! It's in an ideal location, a walkeable distance from the town and handy for a path down to the beach. The cliff lift is even nearer but not working at this date.

« Very clean and comfortable »

Room was a good size, very clean and comfortable, iron and board, hair dryer and robes for use. Although I didn't use also had a swimming pool available. Staff friendly and helpful. Well stocked bar that does snack food as well. Great location for beach and town centre. Car parking available for extra £2.00 a night will allow you to leave car there for your last day even though you book out by 11am. Will be happy to stay here again.

    « Company Summer event »

The Royale staff could not have been more accommodating on our company family day for the Bournemouth air show. The British weather meant that we had to change arrangements at the last minute but the hotel was more than flexible. The food was very impressive which meant that our day was a huge success despite the weather.

    « Enjoyable stay »

We enjoyed our stay at Best Western Royale especially the proximity to the beach and city centre. The whole atmosphere in the hotel was calm and pleasant. The added bonus was the swimming pool which the children enjoyed every day.

    « Great staff »

The hotel is a little dated and can do with some modernisation and new decor and new floor boards. We booked 3 rooms and all were very different. The single room on the first floor is really outdated with old wallpaper, and the shower cubicle is really small. I wouldn't recommend that room for someone who is slightly on the larger side. On the plus side the staff were brilliant, always smiling and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was also very good and of high standard. The location is also very good with just a 10 minute walk to the beach. Be aware the hotels is on the cliff so you will need to walk down and up the cliff to get to the beach and back again to the hotel. Overall this is a good hotel for a short break

    4
« Great location for a seaside weekend »

Hotel is in a prime location for accessing Bournemouth beach, just a 5 minute walk, Parking is limited but cheap and secure. Room was slightly outdated but the bed and bathroom were in good condition. Rooms on the first floor had balconies with 2 seats. Self service breakfast and indoor swimming pool if the weather is dull.

    4
    « Our stay »

Staff very good, room clean and well laid out and in good decorative order and in nice décor. Auto light in bathroom was annoying - fan runs for 5 minutes just for the sake of popping into the bathroom - disturbs room mates. Swimming pool was murky/cloudy.

« Great hotel in fab location »

This is a very well kept Best Western Hotel just five minutes walk from the sea front. The public areas of the hotel are immaculate and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a standard double room and it was well cleaned every day with the tea/coffee being properly re-filled every day (we were there for 6 nights). We had breakfast which is a buffet - even though it is standard hotel buffet it was very well cooked and everything was constantly being refilled. A lovely stay.

    « Best Western Bournemouth »

We chose to stay here for our anniversary in, the staff were polite, helpful and well presented. The room was clean and furnished to a decent level. The only real negative would be the bar prices and the brand range that they stock. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and are planning to return next year for the Christmas market.

« Lovely hotel good location »

A well run hotel , apart from a slight issue with our booking initially we were given a executive suite which was bright, spotlessly clean and airy. Parking convenient in hotel forecourt and only £2 per night . The reception staff was helpful and welcoming . The only issue was the lift is tiny so my wife who has claustrophobia had to use the stairs . Also I noticed the windows in the room have no safety latch , so might be an issue for small kids . However these are just minor issues , all in all very nice one night stay .

« Nice hotel but need earplugs »

We stayed here for three nights over Easter. The room for 3 people was quite small and a bit tired but very clean and had comfortable beds. Every floorboard in the whole room creaked, luckily we were on the top floor but I wouldn't like to have been on a lower floor. The main problem was the complete lack of soundproofing. The walls are paper thin, you can hear running water and next door talking which wasn't too bad the first night but the next two nights we had an elderly couple next to us who got up at 6 in the morning and spent the next hour keeping us awake. Its a shame because the hotel is in a good location, provides parking, has an indoor pool and the downstairs is very well presented, especially the dining room, breakfast was very good (dinner not quite so good but acceptable).

    « 2 night break »

The staff at this hotel are wonderful. They are friendly, Get to know the guests quickly and are happy to help. We stayed in one of their family rooms. It was very clean and simple but exactly what we needed. The beds are very comfortable but it would've been nice to have had a larger double bed. The bathroom was a tad on the small side for a family and the shower to Bath mechanism was difficult to alter. The restaurant was very nice and breakfast was varied and regularly updated. It was quite close to the beach and didn't pose a problem walking there. It was a really nice stay and we enjoyed using the pool although the water wasn't as clear as it could have been. The staff are wonderful with our children. We will definitely stay there again.

    « Sunday night stay »

A last minute decision for a night out in Bournemouth saw us staying here. Upon arrival we were quite surprised to see that we had a very large suite. At £85 that was a bargain. Only downside was that the hotel, and in particular the room, was tired in appearance and needs a good facelift. Easy walking distance to Seafront and Pier. Good value for money without being anything exciting.

    « A well run hotel »

This is the third time I have stayed at this hotel and want to congratulate Gaetano De Rosa, the manager, and his staff for making our stay an enjoyable one. The room was large and I particularly like the white fluffy bath sheets that the hotel provide. We had breakfast both mornings and like before it was very varied. The plates are hot and so is the food. It is a well presented buffet. I will certainly be returning to the Hotel Royale.

« Very comfortable and incredible staff »

I arrived at around 7.30 after a long walk from Lymington. I was extremely tired and ached like crazy. We get so used to hotels only offering a shower, so when I got to my Double room (Free upgrade, thank you very much) I was delighted to find a bath which I filled to the top and just lay back and enjoyed the relaxation. I had thought about ordering room service (because I was tired) but after the bath I decided to risk the restaurant. I wasn't really dressed for formal dining so I asked if could order in the bar. The barmaid said yes, I ordered Sweet and Sour Pork, a signature dish apparently! I had a lovely chat with the barmaid, and she looked after me well with large amounts of tap water! The room was very comfortable, but the door was stiff, so I actually slept with it unlocked! (I didn't realise it hadn't shut properly, user error!) Breakfast was a self service affair, I had made the mistake of booking room only, and for £7.50 it gave excellent value for money. Great staff, great service and good food! If they'd sold real ale it would have been absolutely perfect!

« Great short break in Bournemouth hotel »

Have stayed at this hotel 4 times and it has always been good. The foyer, bar and restaurant areas are lovely - the bedrooms are a little "tired" - the windows especially. A great hotel in a very good location.

    « Very good value »

It gives me pleasure to be able to write a review for the Best Western Royale Hotel. My wife and I stayed at the hotel for five nights July/August. The accommodation was clean and comfortable but, as mentioned in other reviews, there is a slight problem with the water pressure on the third floor. Everything works but the shower is not exhilarating, merely adequate. We used the restaurant for breakfasts only. These were superb with plenty of fresh and appetising food available. The greatest asset of the hotel is unquestionably its staff. All staff were very friendly and gave an acknowledgement. The restaurant staff at breakfast were exceptionally efficient. In particular, Nieves was a joy to observe as she bustled about her business with a display of speed and efficiency seldom seen these days. On the down side, some of the parking spaces are very narrow and not really adequate for modern cars. Would we stay at the Royale in the future? You bet!

    « Fantastic service! »

The hotel's rooms were clean and comfortable, the cooked breakfast delicious and plentiful, and the bar provided a nice place to relax. It was our first time in Bournemouth, visiting for a friend's wedding. The hotels close proximity to the town centre and gorgeous beach meant we were able to enjoy what the town has to offer! However the best aspect of this hotel is undoubtedly it's staff, the customer service was second to none.

« Pleasant stay with some shortcomings »

The hotel is at best a 3 star (the swimming pool would raise it to 4 star but that is only if you use it). Not suitable for disabled as there are a number of steps to the main floor and reception. Arrival was fine although we were not happy with the room offered and when requested a change were willingly accommodated with one that was a little larger and to the west side (the original was more to the rear and over what looked like the kitchens). The bathrooms (having seen 2 rooms) are antiquated and badly in need of updating. The showers over the bath are difficult with a fixed pipe to the shower head and circa 1960's/70's. The layout is poor and the WC in our bathroom was missing the overflow so if it did overflow the floor would get wet as would the room below through the missing pipe(hole). The lounge was a pleasant room and the bar staff friendly and quickly served us. No complaints. The restaurant was nicely laid out with plentiful breakfast and a reasonable dinner menu (sufficient for 3 days but a challenge to get good variety if staying a week). The location is approx. 200 yards from the cliff path and a 5 - 10minute walk to the pier. We walked down and back up through the town to Landsdown (same level as the hotel and 2 - 300 yards away). Not a bad location although this end of town is not as interesting nor does it have nice shops. One last thing, they charge for parking

« Good location, good value. »

Very convenient for town, beach and train station. We went to the Shelly Theatre which was 1.5 miles away whilst there. Room was large, nice bathroom, nice linen, good buffet breakfast would recommend including it in your room deal as a bit far for any other breakfast outside. LOTS of seagull noise but only to be expected!

« OK for a One Night Stay »

Stayed here on business for one night. Had room 213 which overlooks part of the car park. As it was a hot night, had to have the windows open which let in not only the air but the noise from outside too. Room had no air con nor did the hotel have any fans available. Only used the restaurant for breakfast and only had the fruit salad as the buffet style breakfast looked over cooked and disgusting under the warmer lamps. One question, why charge paying guests to use the car park? Liberty

« Good value for the price »

Hotel reception, bar and restaurant looks good and partially renovated. Room with bunk beds was small, but still ok to spend a few hours over night in the room. Breakfast was good. Location is great in order to spend some time on the beach.

    « Brilliant »

Spent all week here and it was great, staff very friendly has a seperate swimming pool which i used every day twice a day. breakfast was always great. The only downside for me was the soft bed and the sound of pidgeons right outside the room. But small things such as cleaning of windows seems to have gone a miss pidgeon poop on the ladies loo completely blocking the light out(wife pointed out).

« In need of some modernisation »

Lack of air conditioning and very poor water pressure meant that on the 2 hottest days of the year, it was actually very difficult to feel clean and refreshed after sleeping and showering in our room.

    « Lovely short break »

Nice hotel, great location, attentive staff. Good sized clean room although shower was either scalding hot or too cold. Excellent breakfast lots of choice and friendly staff. Close to beach and only 10 minute walk to the shops and town centre. Will definitely return.

    « Seeking some TLC »

Quiet room, comfy bed, wonderful staff and great location. Plus there is a pool! The room facilities (309) let the hotel down. The nightly smell of sewage which I thought came from outside was actually coming from the toilet. I noticed on the last night the waste pipe was not attached! (See photo). Oh and avoid the room uht milk sachets...mouldy yuck!

« Weekend away with the wife, lovely hotel. »

We stayed at Hotel Royale friday and Saturday in early july. We only paid £200 for 2 nights and got first night dinner and 2 breakfasts. The room was small but all we needed and good for the price. The bathroom was a fair size tho. We had unlimited tea etc available in our room. Our first evening dinner was lovely. The food was very well presented, large portions and very tasty. The breakfast was the usual help yourself and had pretty much everything you would want and again was very nice. The staff were very attentive and polite and welcoming. I would go as far as to say they were the most pleasant hotel staff i have ever used. They have a small indoor which goes 2m deep. Lukewarm water and nice for a quick dip anytime. Overall we loved our stay and would recommend it highly to anyone. We were also told that the hotel is now linked to the Cumberland and a couple of others so we also used the Cumberland outside pool which was lovely.

« Excellent staff at this hotel. »

Extremely pleasant and efficient well trained staff throughout this hotel. Bedroom spotless, food excellent and good quality well cooked, As a previous reviewer mentioned the downside was a 'noisy' bedroom. How can you describe a room being noisy? Every step you take in the room made the floorboards squeak. The bath/shower made an intermittent loud tapping/knocking noise during the night which I assumed was the bath expanding and contracting because the hot water pipes ran underneath it. It would not put me off staying here again because it is a first class hotel - I would avoid the first floor rear bedrooms.

« Nice location, great value »

When we managed to book two double rooms for £40 in July we were a bit concerned about where we might end up. We needn't have worried. The rooms, although not huge were spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and the staff helpful and attentive. The hotel is located on a wide tree-lined avenue and is less than 10 minutes walk to the sea front. Definitely recommend this hotel for a good value, very comfortable stay.

  • 4
    « Good food »

Only complaint about room is that floorboards squeak. Otherwise excellent. It is a good idea to get a dinner bed and breakfast deal. You can choose from the a la carte menu - though some of the more expensive items do carry a moderate supplement.

« Quiet location about 5 minutes walk to the beach »

We stayed for 3 nights in a family executive room which had recently been refurbished. Nice bathroom and spacious room for the three of us. Our room was at the back so it was very quiet so you could sleep with the window open. The wifi signal in the room was extremely good quality. We tried the pool a couple of times which was really nice, a little cool the first day but with the sun shining through the skylights on our second visit it seemed to be warmer. The pool is big enough to swim in, is well maintained and also seems quite new. The breakfast buffet in the hotel was exceptionally good with all components for a full English breakfast plus croissants, fresh fruit salad ham & cheese etc. The room for breakfast and dinner was quite spacious so relaxing to eat in. The staff at breakfast, reception and in the bar were very friendly and helpful. The lounge area bar was also very pleasant and relaxing nice to read the paper in in the morning or to have a quiet drink in the evening. The location of the hotel is extremely good in the quiet suburban side of Bournemouth 5 minutes walk to the beach at East Cliff and 15 minutes walk to the town centre. Ample parking for which you are charged £2 per day. For a hotel with very good facilities in a peaceful location close to the beach to be recommended.

    5
« Much better than the price would suggest »

Very nice room, huge bed, lots of space and massive ensuite. Excellent breakfast, with lots of space between tables. Helpful staff. The whole hotel appeared very "fresh" and was spotlessly clean. A max 2 person lift seems ridiculous when families (with small children) are staying. We were only staying 1 night, so could not try the pool/spa.

« Chalet rooms great for families »

We've just spent our 2nd weekend at this hotel, the first time when our son was 8 months old and now with him about to turn 3. The chalet rooms at this hotel are perfect if travelling with small kids - super spacious family rooms and each has its own little terrace outside with patio furniture. This means you can put the kids to bed and then sit outside watching the sun go down enjoying a glass of wine or liqueur coffee from the bar - bliss. The pool is well maintained and free to use for hotel guests. The rooms are large and well equipped, and the breakfast buffet is one of the best I've ever had at a hotel of this grade. The restaurant also serves a very nice evening meal. A very enjoyable weekend - the only niggles were the pool showers not working during our visit, and the sub standard bar food (£5 for a slice of dirt cheap frozen pizza and chips is a disgrace for a kids meal). Apart from those minor issues it was a wonderful stay, and we'll definitely come back again.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here for four days lovely food friendly staff would stay here again next time in Bournemouth close to everything just be aware that you could be placed in chalets at the back of hotel which are nice but personally I'd rather be in hotel

    « Fab short break »

Just back from a short break at this lovely hotel. The accommodation and facilities were great; the food was truly excellent and the staff were so friendly cheerful and welcoming. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis with an excellent deal through 'Great Little Breaks' which I would highly recommend.

    4
    « Hire of room »

We hired there William tell suite for a party and it was perfect the staff couldn't of been any more helpful the food was brilliant and we had the dj from the hotel and he was amazing he played a lot of variety what we asked for and did what we wanted. The only thing that let us down and made it such a dear night was the price of the drinks we knew it was going to be expensive but it did spoil the overall experience.

    4
    « A good all round hotel »

This is my third stay at this hotel. The buffet breakfast is extensive and the manager and staff are helpful, pleasant and work hard to make sure the guests are looked after. The restaurant is very good. We had an excellent meal for a reasonable price. I look forward to next year!

« Fantastic stay, at a fantastic hotel... »

We were looking to just get away for a week end, and saw this place, so booked... I can't recommend this please enough... Clean, friendly, nice rooms, 5 min walk to the beach, perfect.... Only thing to watch out for is the £2 parking charge.. But what's £2...

    « Great location »

A great location , very close to the cliffs and. Short walk downhill to the main beach area and the town centre. This us a friendly, comfortable hotel. The staff are very welcoming and keen to please. We had a large family room which was very clean and comfortable.

« weekend break with friends »

a hotel that made us very welcome we are all disabled and had a guide dog with us the manager and the staff were very helpful and understanding , they bent over backwards to make our stay very pleasant, nothing was too much trouble. we will defiantly recommend it to our friends.

    5
« Comfortable with excellent breakfast »

The check-in could be improved but after that the hotel exceeded our expectations. The room and bathroom were a good size, very well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast standard was consistently high and the staff worked well. The parking was generally ok but guests could help by paying more attention to the lines. The music in the restaurant was generally a bit loud and a strange selection.

    5
    « Excellent short break »

Hotel and facilities exceeded our expectations. Especially the swimming pool. Staff were most obliging, food was excellent and the location ideal. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and plan to return to this hotel in the future.

    « Business Bonanza »

Great deal on single room - for the price the hotel was excellent. Decor was good throughout comfy bar area. Charges for parking £2 but there is on road parking very close by. Didn't try the pool but it looked good. Quite surroundings - room had all the usual facilities. Would stay again if a similar deal came up

    « Weekend break »

Lovely relaxing weekend with my mum. Hotel in great location not far from town centre but nice to have peace and quiet which this hotel gave us. Staff superb from booking in to waitressing and the cleaners. They were so helpful and attentive - nothing was too much for any of them.

« It does not get any bettter »

I have stayed at this wonderful hotel on many occasions and everything is absolutely perfect from the moment you arrive The attention to detail throughout this property makes it perfect from the superbly equipped bedrooms to what is probably the best breakfast you will ever have anywhere and I include all the London 5* hotels. From the Manager to Lussiana (special mention ) in the bar to the service staff,Nothing is too much trouble

    « Mini break »

We spent two nights in this old fashioned hotel but our room was spacious and very clean. The staff were friendly and booking in and checking out were quick. The hotel is in a quiet street. The walk to central Bournemouth takes about twenty minutes.

« Very comfortable, affordable hotel »

Good location, 5 minutes from beach, 10 minutes from town centre. Quiet. Excellent breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Our rooms were basic but comfortable and clean. Hotel has its own parking. We enjoyed our stay.

    4
    « Great Value Hotel »

Very clean and nicely decorated with very pleasant staff. The swimming pool was an added bonus! The only downside is it's an old building and the floorboards are rather creaky, and you can hear the bathrooms upstairs.

    « Friends wedding »

Stopped here for 2 nights ... Couldn't fault it..great staff who were very helpful, breakfast was excellent and room very clean and spacious... Would defitnately return as is near the sea front and is very close to the town centre .. The only concern I did have was the noise from late night revellers coming back to the hotel early in the morning, however the hotel can't control this so can't take the blame

  • 5
« Great hotel, lovely stay »

All the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious and could not be faulted. Room was very clean and comfortable and I would definitely stay here again. It is a short walk into town and to the beach but if you do book a cab it will cost about £5.

    5
« NICE AND RELAXING 3 NIGHT BREAK »

checking in was quick, the room warm and bright. Bed very soft. Breakfast was buffet style, loads of food to choose from.(Full English, fruit, toast, and much more). Evening dinner was amazing to. All the staff in the hotel where 1st class. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Walk in to the town about 15mins. Not sure why but we got charged £2.00 per day for packing. All in all a perfect stay.

    5
« Wonderfull break - very nice relaxed hotel. »

From the moment you arrive you are looked after. Staff very friendly and attentive, helpful and nothing too much trouble. The evening meal in the restaurant was high quality and well presented as was breakfast. The rooms are very well appointed and clean. We have a 6 month old and the size of room was good with plenty of space for the travel cot. The pool looked great but there were lessons so we could not swim. The location is very central but also close to the cliff top walks and with easy access to the beach. We had no trouble with the pram walking back up there are some gradual slopes.

    5
    « Friendly and relaxing »

Hotel Royal is one of the most welcoming hotels in Bournemouth. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The swimming pool has the warmest water I have every experienced. The food was excellent and the bedroom was very comfortable.

« Great Hotel to say at »

This Hotel is a Great Hotel to stay at nice rooms and Great Food just outside the town near east cliff not far from the sea front and great value so give it a go just right for you to have a nice Holiday.

    « Excellent staff »

Through no fault of the hotel, the stairlift broke down so I didn't actually get to my room. But... The staff are amazing.... While stuck on stairlift they offered drink for me.. When I got off and we figured what to do... They assisted me to the swimming pool gaming rooms so I could get changed and showered as I was meant to go out. They were then waiting to fix the stairlift but that didn't occur. The staff took my bags and put them in the room while I left to see friends... They kept me updated and then moved me to another hotel... Took my bags there... And the process was brilliant. The manager came to see me at the end of the stay and he offered refund with no issue at all. Both hotels had brilliant staff.. Royale and the suncliffe. Very impressed how they went out their way to assist a disabled customer.

    « Excellent weekend break »

We arrived a bit later than we anticipated on Friday evening, check-in was a breeze even though they were busy. Our room was very comfortable & nicely set out, the bed was excellent for both comfort & firmness. All the staff over the weekend were always helpful & obliging which made our stay all the better. I'd recommend this hotel to anybody who likes to be looked after well & wants to be close to the sea.

« Great Hotel, great staff couldn't fault it »

I stayed here with my extended family for two nights and The hotel was excellent, the staff were helpful at all times and they even made my five year old an amazing soft drink cocktail which she loved. The room was spacious with large bathroom and the common spaces were good with a nice relaxing bar area. The restaurant was superb and we ate there on both nights, the menu was varied and the service excellent. The breakfast also was comprehensive with something to suit all tastes. Location wise it was about a 10 minute stroll in to town so ideal. All in all it was great value for money and would highly recommend it if you visit this lovely town.

There were 8 of us - we had 4 rooms on the 1st floor -- all the rooms were spacious -- they were very clean & tidy -- the staff were all very pleasant & helpful at all times to everyone -- the food was amazing -- a few of the group used the pool -- very warm & enjoyable -- on our 2nd night there was a large coach party (they arrived late) so there were delays with the food -- this was explained to us BUT everything was fine -- the staff kept saying sorry for the delays -- but we didn't mind at all -- the atmosphere was very good -- would defo go again

« Lovely hotel, great value for money »

Stayed for 3 nights in June, great value for money. Hotel is very clean and staff friendly. Didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on the food. Didn't get to use the swimming pool either as too much stuff going on on the seafront ( Wheelz Festival ) I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Only little niggle is that the bath was very high so the less abled would find it a struggle. I was in room 120 which had a double aspect and very spacious.

    4
« Nice hotel, good food and excellent staff »

Hotel is set back from the road in nice gardens. Perfectly situated for beach and town centre. My room was comfortable , well decorated and spotlessly clean. My only complaint would be the hard pillows. The bar and restaurant areas are lovely and the food in the restaurant is very good. Try the Asian prawns. What really makes this hotel is the staff, everyone of them was pleasant and helpful, nothing was to much trouble. Internet was a bit hit and miss.

    3
« Misleading booking - kids do not eat free »

The Hotel itself was generally as expected however, several things ruined our stay considerably. Firstly, upon arrival, we found our room was not even in the hotel but a converted garage 'Chalet' out the back. We expected to be in a hotel not in a room in the car park. Secondly, we booked dinner b&b for two adults and 2 children and expected this to be the case. Especially with your kids eat free offer. Sadly, at on the first night it quickly became evident that despite our booking confirmation stating Dinner B&B for all four of our party, our children's meals were included at all. We found ourselves in a very embarrassing situation which frankly ruined our stay - despite a commendable and valiant effort buy Manager Gary to resolve the situation. We cancelled our meal on the second night for this reason and especially due to the fact that the cooking oil in the fryers had plainly not been changed for way too long. The foul taste of old rotten cooking oil on chips and hash browns is quite vulgar and sadly, easily rectified. What does this say about the condition of the kitchen I wonder? Finally, around 24 hours after eating in your restaurant, my daughter became quite ill and my Wife and I spent most of our second night nursing our little girl through sickness and diarrhoea. A coincidence? Perhaps it is but it left us feeling bitterly sad that 2 day break was a complete disaster.

    « Nice hotel »

We stayed here May bank holiday for 2 nights. Hotel needs updating as some rooms have metal windows but it is clean and the staff are friendly and polite. Room was ok size family room with double bed and bunk beds. Facilities in the room were good. Shower slow. Swimming pool the children loved it nice size and heated. Breakast was good large variety and buffet style. We eat in the restaurant one of the days and had the 3 course set meal was very nice well worth the money.

    4
    « great break »

overall very good hotel to stay by English seaside standards.Lack of Aircon not big problem, but would be very much improved by having a small security safe and fridge option in room, even with a small surcharge if necessary.

    4
    « Good Value »

Hotel was extremely good value for money. Breakfast was superb and staff were always courteous and helpful. Rooms were very hot and rooms on the third floor only had small windows to open. We stayed on a bank holiday so hotel was probably busier than normal. The first night (Saturday evening) was very noisy in the hotel with doors opening and closing and people talking when going to rooms. I didn't sleep at all that night because of noise and heat in rooms. Second night was quieter and so a good nights sleep saved the weekend.

    « Bowls trip »

The Royale Hotel Best Western in Bournemouth was very good, it could do with updating in the room we had, the food we could not Fault there was plenty choices to pick from, we would go back again. Not far from the Train station, plenty of restaurants and bars in the town centre.

Just spent the bank holiday weekend here with my husband, my sister & her husband. What a lovely friendly hotel, the staff were very attentive & polite everything was done with a smile. The room was very spacious & clean, the breakfast was very good. The location was great, a short walk to the beach & not far to walk to the town centre. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, this hotel has definitely got it right.

Good location and would definitely return

    « Excellent »

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights for my 40th birthday get away. The staff were friendly from the moment we walked through the doors. We stayed in room 100 which was a lovely room with its own balcony. Only a couple of slight issues with room, the shower. It's quite a large step up to get into it and the shower head is perfect as long as you are under 5 foot tall. It can be quite noisey from the internal plumbing from other rooms. Only other issue we found which is definitely not the hotels fault, someone I can only assume was a previous guest left the alarm clock set which went off at 12am and 3.30am on the first night. Probably my own fault really for not checking it. The bar is nice and reasonably priced. A nice seating area outside to enjoy a couple of drinks on a warm evening. Breakfast was buffett style self service which I love, my only downfall is i tend to eat far to much. Very good selection of hot and cold food. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel. The 5 minute walk to the front is always a bonus.

    « Best is best »

Have spent the weekend here on a bowling tour. If you are heading to Bournemouth and want somewhere to stay look no further than this lovely hotel. Although my single room was a bit small it did have a balcony and it was spotlessly clean. All the staff were polite, happy in their job (smiles go miles!) and very helpful. The food was excellent. We had three or four choices on each course at dinner and breakfast had everything you could want to eat! All in all a super place to stay and if I'm back down here in the future I'll definitely be staying at the Royale. Oh I forgot the hotel has a lovely heated pool. again spotlessly clean. Thank you to all the staff at the Royale.

    « Great location for a holiday »

Well located on the East Cliff with good walking on the cliff tops or along the promenades. The hotel offers a comfortable stay in standard double in a newly decorated room. (108) The décor and choice of pictures in the bedroom, lounge and dining area are well chosen and attractive. What really makes this a super place to relax in, is the friendliness of all the staff. They are welcoming and are set on making your stay a good one. The breakfast choice is very good and varied. The evening meals too are great especially the deserts!

« Good 3-star hotel in quiet surroundings, quite close to Bournemouth centre »

The hotel is in a large period house in its own grounds where you can park your car safely. The standard of service was consistently very good, in particular from restaurant staff and housekeeping. Room rate was competitive, and although my room was quite small, it was well decorated and clean. Tea-coffee making in room. Excellent breakfast choice with very attentive staff. My only real criticism was to do with the intrinsic noise of the building itself. Timber floors meant there was a fair degree of creaking like a old ship (!), but also the plumbing joined in for quite long periods. This may have just been restricted to my part of the hotel however. Good free wi-fi, lots of public space, nice grounds to take a drink.

    « A relaxing stay »

Receptionist, Carla, was extremely helpful in upgrading us to an executive room which was worth £25 extra to sit in the sun on the balcony for a rest from walking. Lovely location. All staff were very nice and had an enjoyable evening meal in restaurant.

    « Executive Room »

My children bought us a 2 Day Secret Escape here with DBB and one cream tea included for my 70th birthday, together with a £100 voucher to spend in the spa. The hotel is situated on a nice wide tree-lined road. After reading reviews we upgraded to executive room which was lovely. Large balcony overlooking front gardens, walk -in wardrobe, robes etc. We were delighted, however if you like to sleep with window or balcony door open, the late Sat night shouting/early morning traffic from the road will disturb you. With windows closed it is nice and quiet, although upstairs floorboards are creaky overhead. My husband used the pool but as there were families with a lot of children, he didn't stay long. The staff are the most charming, friendly and polite and an absolute pleasure. The food was superb, good menu, good portions and delicious. All in all We loved our stay. SPA- I had an amazing facial and full body massage which cost me an extra £35 on top of my £100 voucher. However, be warned. If you have a gift voucher you will not get the 20% discount that the hotel advertise. I was told I could only get the discount on the £35 and not the £100. I spent an additional £49 on products on top of the £35 as well. In fairness they did offer me a back massage on our departure day instead after I complained but that wasn't much use as we needed to get on the road home. It's a shame as it spoilt what was otherwise a lovely experience.

    « A Lovely Hotel in a Great Location »

We stayed there recently for a few days, the hotel was very nice and in a good location to get around Bournemouth. The staff there were very helpful, polite and friendly. We had a lovely meal in the Aqua Brasserie on the first night we were there, the food was really nice with a good choice on the menu. Breakfast was buffet style so you could help yourself to as much as you wanted, again lots to choose from. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to other people.

« not as good as it used to be »

we stayed twice at this hotel in2015 and we were highly delighted . this time we felt that anumber of things were not as good, the menu in the dining room lacked a number of the favourites of last year. the bar prices seemed to be much higher and w hilst the staff were as helpful as before we felt the hotel had lost alittle of its sparkle.

    « A Gem of a Hotel »

Had a 4 night stay in this lovely hotel. Within easy reach of the beach and town. This has to be one of the best hotels I have stayed in for a long long time. Our rooms without exception were lovely - exceptionally clean and comfortable. Every staff member we came across were polite, friendly and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble. I don't think I have ever met a team of hotel staff who clearly enjoy their work and build up such a good rapport with their customers. The breakfast was varied and tasty and dinners were delicious. Not cheap, but good for the price. The Sweet and Sour Pork was wonderful...so good that I had it on the first and last night. I have nothing negative to say. Anything I needed was provided with a smile, including extra tea bags!!!

« Good hotel about 1 kilometre from centre »

Good experience of a nice hotel. I booked 2 executive double rooms (101 & 104) and one room was clearly much nicer than the other. One had the advertised extra seating (a sofa plus an armchair) but the second room was not quite so well furnished and probably not worth the extra money as it only had one additional armchair. However breakfast was excellent and the pool was lovely and warm for a swim. We paid £2 parking for 24 hours which given I had booked executive rooms also seems a little cheeky. Overall a good experience and friendly staff.

« Good location for a good price »

The hotel is in walking distance from the beach and city center. There is ample parking space for a small fee (5 pounds). Reception is friendly and helpful. The building is a bit old but the rooms are OK. Some noise, some squeaking. Wifi works well. Downstairs is a nice and quiet lounge/bar. The breakfast is very good, but I could do without the too loud music to further wake me up or entertain me, both unnecessary.

« A Very Pleasant Surprise for the Price Paid »

We have just returned from the Royale Hotel after having spent two nights there booked at a very good price through Secret Escapes. The hotel is a good 3 star hotel with large bedrooms and large bright public rooms. The restaurant was excellent on the first night but adequate on the second night. All members of staff were very friendly and very helpful. Would definitely book again at the right price

« Helpful and Obliging Staff. Excellent Restaurant, Tiny Lift »

Stayed here as part of a Secret Escapes special deal. The hotel is located on the East Cliff side of Bournemouth one road back from the cliff road so you do not have a sea view. The hotel was comfortable, well located being a 5 minute walk to the beach and 10 minutes to the main square where the gardens and buses are located. The staff were very friendly and obliging. The double room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom had been recently refurbished. The restaurant was excellent. Much better an we had expected. As part of the deal breakfast and dinner were included in the price. Breakfast was the normal buffet with everything you could ask for. Dinner included a wide choice of dishes which were well presented and included some interesting flavours. The only down side was the tiredness of the furnishings in the lounge and bar area and the ridiculously small lift which only held two people

    « Comfortable hotel »

Late booking for a last minute gig opportunity. Arrived late (about 11.00 p.m.) but had phoned ahead and hotel staff very helpful and pointed us in the direction of local restaurants still open. Nice "superior" Twin room overlooking front of hotel, bends very comfortable. Hadn't booked breakfast but took up hotel "add-on" offer at reduced price and had good selection of breakfast buffet plus eggs/sausages cooked to order. Weren't really here long enough to use he facilities, but would visit this hotel again. About a 10-15 minute walk to seafront, and 5 minutes from shops and restaurants.

« Comfortable and quiet choice for stop-off »

I needed to stop-off whilst travelling and the Best Western Hotel Royale (on the East side of town) turned out to be a good choice. I'll let others form an opinion on Bournemouth, suffice to say that the location of this hotel was excellent, nestled in a quiet tree-lined street, away from a lot of the B&B's, restaurants and bars further west. For whatever reason, the area does attract a lot of stags, but the hotel only allows golf parties i was told. Parking was plentiful (there is a minimal fee which i was happy to pay for as there is a barrier system providing added security) and there is a pleasant garden with seating at the front of the property, nice in the sunshine. My room was basic as you would expect, but it was clean with a flat-screen and free wi-fi. The bar area was quite pleasant although the drinks prices were in line with what you'd pay in West London. I had a club sandwich from the bar and i have to say it was very good indeed. There was a good choice for breakfast with cereals, fruits, cheeses & ham, toast, juices and the usual cooked fare too. If you need to stay in Bournemouth and are looking for good value, this is definitely worth considering.

« Lovely staff in a perfect location »

The staff we met during our 2 night stay made our time memorable and valuable. I can not fault anything from check in to check out. We were looked after from start to finish, we had a lovely twin room, with everything we needed and a delightful full English breakfast. We will definitely be back.

    « Comfortable, cosy hotel »

Hotel in a nice quiet location but within walkiing distance to beach, centre, shopping, with comfortable and clean rooms. We booked one night offer with cream tea and an evening meal. Everything was as promised and offered to us without prompting. Hotel has also parking which is free! Staff in a restaurant was very nice, polite and happy. Lovely to talk to them. Obviously Best Western must be a good employer. I left my telephone charger in a room and it was prompty posted to me. We enjoyed our stay and will come back again.

« Great hotel to stay in Bournmouth »

With have been coming to this hotel for an organised function for several years now and have always been very pleased. This year however, we felt that the organisation and service were even better than in previous years. The staff was generally very attentive, although it was a bit disappointing at the bar at busy times due partly to lack of staff in this area. We also found the bar prices much higher this year.

« welcome was the best ever »

The room was clean and to a high standard the staff were friendly an helpful the welcome letter was a great help with time and reminders for the guests. the menu has improved from last year and every evening the food was great

« Superb Beds in Bournemouth. »

Possibly the most comfortable bed we have slept in at a Hotel. Room spotlessly clean and in good order. Bathroom a bit cramped, but did the job well enough. My wife enjoyed the food, but I had an issue with my chosen dish at dinner.

« Staying at BestWestern Hotel Royale »

Can't fault this hotel. Greeted so warm and friendly on arrival, lovely relaxed bar and lounge area and restaurant perfect. Room was so fresh and clean. Never found such a warm and friendly 'nothing is too much trouble' hotel. I telephoned in advance to enquirer about car parking and their telephone manner was perfect too and they were so helpful. A perfect stay and one I would recommend.

« Great place for over night stay. »

Stayed here over night before an interview next day. The hotel was showing its age in certain places with a bit of wall paper pealing in the room and a crack in the toilet but what do you expect from an old building. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming although the price of food was a bit steep in the restaurant. Didn't get the chance to try the pool but would gladly stay here again when next in Bournemouth.

« A short but most enjoyable stay »

This hotel is situated very near to the main seafront and about a fifteen minute walk to the gardens and the town centre. There is ample parking at a very reasonable daily rate, wi-fi is free but better in some areas than others. It is worth upgrading from a standard room to a superior or above which will give you more space in the room itself, more drawer and storage space if you are planning a longer stay. We did not use the pool but it is a good size and well kept. Without doubt the strengths of this hotel are the staff and the very good standard of food. All staff we encountered were very, very pleasant and helpful. We have often stayed in places where staff are surly but it was a pleasure to chat with them all. Nothing was too much trouble and they are to be commended with regard to customer satisfaction. The obvious level of training and expectations set by the manager are very apparent. I would recommend this hotel highly and look forward to returning at some point in the future.

« Stay at Best Western Hotel Royale »

Just returned from a weekend break at this hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Its in a good location close to the sea and shops. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice in a really nice dinning room. The bar/ lounge had very comfortable Sofa's and was very nicely decorated. There was a nice swimming pool too. Our bedroom was very dated and in need of a makeover and the wi-fi did not work in our room at all.

« Good hotel for a nights stay »

We stayed here as a surprise from the mother in law so had no previous knowledge of the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful at the hotel. It is very well located only a few minutes walk to the beach which is it's best selling point in my opinion. There is a bar on the ground floor as well as a pool which we didn't visit. The hotel also offers free wifi which had a strong connection in the room. The room we stayed in was on the third floor it was a decent size but I did have a few gripes. For starters you can't change the temperature in the room and because only one window opens, which was in the bathroom, the room was very cold when we got there with poor ventilation so it smelt like the previous occupiers cologne. In addition to that the walls are paper thin which cannot be helped now but something that people should be weary about. Unfortunately for us we were next to a very loud drunk couple who I had to ask to be quiet at 5am. They had also left their room key which is an actual key as opposed to a swipe card in their door which is pretty dangerous. I informed them of this and they came and got it out but who knows what that kind of forgetfulness it could lead to so it would be good and safer if they key was a swipe key instead. We had breakfast the next morning which had a good range of hot and cold foods so I definitely recommend getting your breakfast fix. However my mother in law informed me that on tripadvisor it does say free breakfast however we had to pay £11 each for ours which I wasn't pleased about to honest. It's a short walk to a whole range of restaurants it really is a great location and value for money wise it's a good bet.

« Good Bank Holiday weekend »

We have stayed at a number of hotels over the years as part of a Rambling weekend, and it was probably the best so far. Service could not be faulted, and compared to other Best Westerns it certainly lived up to its name. Nearly all the restaurant staff were from outside of the UK, and without exception they served us well with friendly dispositions and a willing nature. Hotel Duty Manager made us welcome personally and this was a nice introduction and the whole of meal time was well planned and efficient. They were all a credit to the establishment. Food was mostly good but only average at other times. Plenty of choice and variation on the evening meals but I question a roast meat without roast potatoes. Nah! Some veg was overcooked and seemingly prepared some time before serving - and we were there as the doors opened - but generally everything was at least hot as well as tasty. All the meat I had was very tender too. I always judge breakfast by the state of the fried eggs. Nearly always congealed and half cold. Not here though and the choice was immense. My only complaint was on the first day, despite being on the menu, there was no grapefruit segments and why not use fresh ones? Room was clean and comfortable, as were the public areas. Little things here to complain about, but these were minor and easily got round. There was no TV guide in the room despite the hotel information book saying there was, and whilst internet Wi-Fi was excellent in the room, it did not reach the large lounge by the bar. Convenient to station, town centre, beaches, and bars/restaurants whether driving, using public transport or walking. Didn't use pool or leisure facilities but no Sky Sports might put some people off. Would I go again and/or recommend? Yes to both! As part of a large party and the only couple driving ourselves there as against using the Group coach., we were not charged for parking. However, looking at the web site I thought there was a charge for a covered area but not for outside but would object to having to pay and there was a sign saying there would be one.!

« Fantastic hotel, excellent staff and service, food was also great »

I booked this hotel for 52 Ramblers for our annual walking week end, I could not fault this hotel, the staff are so attentive, nothing was too much trouble, they went out of there way to make our stay superb, even providing ice for one of our walkers with a swollen foot, and the offer of a different choice of food for our coach driver who didn't like the choices on the menu. Would recommend this hotel.

    « Amazing staff »

Me and my wife stayed over the weekend, taking in a concert and enjoying beautiful Bournemouth. We were very pleased with the hotel. The rooms were quite small, however the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept on in a long time, I'd love to know the mattress maker so I can buy one myself. I'd also like to call out the staff as everyone had a smile on their face and were extremely friendly, all giving a nice hello and making us feel very welcome. Best Western hotels never fail to disappoint. Great location, great staff, lovely food and comfortable sleep. What more can you ask for?

« Good hotel for Bournemouth town & seafront »

Love this hotel, great position to walk to shops, bars & beach. Rooms are clean & have comfortable beds. Staff are brilliant & make every effort to ensure you enjoy your stay. Good selection for breakfast.

« Good stay, shame about the weather! »

We visited over Easter Weekend. The hotel is in an excellent location, and has all the facilities you expect. The bed was really comfy, we had an executive room. My only gripe would be that, due to the hotel being old, you can hear everything in the rooms above and next door. Breakfast was good, we just arrived during a busy time so things were missing.

    4
« Good quality hotel for business stay »

I regularly travel to Bournemouth for work and if your business is in the East of the town this is one of a few hotels in the area worth staying at. Rooms have always been clean, even if the decor is a little dated. Staff always come across as friendly and glad to help. Has a small indoor pool if you want to do a few laps as well. Breakfast buffet is usually well stocked with the usual cooked and uncooked items and there's always staff on hand. Just be aware that there's usually a coach party of the more time experienced guests and the heating is set accordingly. Fortunately, most rooms have windows that open.

« Hotel cancelled our booking after threatening us we had to pay £185 more to stay »

I never actually got to stay at the hotel. After booking online and the money going out of my account the hotel chain Best Western called to say we couldn't have the room because the system had charged the wrong price and if we wanted to stay I would have to pay another £185. I explained our family holiday would be completely ruined and he said he would give us a free meal worth £60 if we paid ANOTHER £185??!! I asked to speak to his manager (the operations manager) and he refused and said the issue would be passed to him anyway and that was the end of the conversation. He also told me he would get any reviews I wrote deleted from Trip Advisor. I've never been so threatened on a phone call before!! I now have to explain to my 8 year old little boy that there will be no holiday this year. I simply can't afford to cough up more money because the hotel / Expedia made a mistake. Also I spent a whole week thinking everything was OK as no one contacted me! Still no money back either.... So book at your own peril!!!

« Ffriendly staff and stylish decor in hotell but dreadful nights sleep »

Amazingly friendly staff and stylish decor in hotel, hotel let down by dreadful bed, was really uncomfortable. It seemed to sag and I had to use my legs to stay in place, so couldn't sleep as unable to relax, also trying to do this was very painful as my legs are disabled (not gonna go into details here). The lack of fresh air or air con in the room meant I couldn't sleep, it was too stuffy and hot. Only window I could open was in bathroom, too far away to be of any effect. I stayed here over 8 years ago with work for Christmas do, the décor was the same, even the pictures and vases the same. but the room I had then I remember had been amazing, must have been executive, or maybe the beds were new then, are old now. anyway, don't think I want to stay here again. I need to be able to breathe, not nice, scary finding it hard to breathe. Was in Bournemouth for "sad event" so wasn't going to bother with telling lady at desk the above, too much on my mind, but I did mention I couldn't sleep. anyway the service and staff were wonderful. Parking available for a couple of pound I think, far cheaper than other hotels, except il try to find somewhere with fresh air and a good bed next time, as I have friends in Bournemouth I will be visiting regularly and need to know I can relax and enjoy the visit. What made it worse was psychologically painful as well as physical: imagine, a lovely sea front fresh air filled walk, then am stuck in a stuffy hot room knowing it is fresh and cool outside. for the room and bed 1 star because the staff were so good I've given this 3 stars

    4
    « Nice hotel »

One night stay, just for a short, cheapish break. It fit the bill perfectly room was basic but nicely made up, hotel had a nice feeling about it. Plenty of parking available. Decent Wi-Fi strength. Basically what you expect from a BEST WESTERN

« Great value for money, close to town centre »

Stayed here, in a family room ( double and bunk beds). The location was a 10 minute walk to Bournemouth town centre, and a few minutes to the beach, although you have to either take the cliff tram or walk down a lot of steps. The hotel breakfast was great ( hot and cold buffet style), added bonus of swimming pool, and hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Car parking was easy and secure at the Hotel. This was ideally suited to us, to discover surrounding area: Can recommend taking chain ferry to Studland area from Bournemouth, and going to Knoll beach, Swanage, Corfe Castle & Tyneham ( deserted 1940's village).

Little get away for me and the missus, hotel was lovely and we stayed in one of the chalet rooms which was very tidy and roomy. location was perfect with a 10 minute walk to the sea front. « Long Easter Weekend »

We use Best Western Hotels Home and abroad and this hotel did not disappoint. The breakfast buffet was excellent with plenty of choice. We also tried the restaurant in the evening during our stay and whilst not cheap the food was excellent. All the staff during our stay were efficient and friendly and the chambermaid "Basia" who serviced our room always had a friendly hello in the mornings. We would not hesitate to stay here again especially with the property only 10 mins walk to town.

    « Short Break »

Just returned home after a short break (5 nights) with my husband and 4 year old granddaughter. We stayed in one of the chalets (123) at the back of the hotel and found it very comfortable and spacious. The room had a double bed and 2 singles, a dressing room with desk and chair and wardrobe leading into a large bathroom with bath and shower. Yes the hotel is perhaps in need of a facelift but everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help. Food was good and breakfast had plenty of choices. My granddaughter made good use of the swimming pool and although quite small was never busy when we were there. All in all a very pleasant break and would stay there again.

Booked over the Internet but had a few problems with the booking. Kay? on the reception/ booking team couldn't have been more helpful. Great price for a two night DBB stay. A much needed break and would stay again if on a similar offer.

    « Easter stay »

Stayed as a family of four for 2 nights. Only wished we had booked for longer. Good location (pleasant 10 minute walk down to beach). Good quality hotel and great value for money. Swimming pool was very good and was exactly like the website's photographs (which isn't always the case!). Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely book this hotel again next time I stay in Bournemouth.

The Hotel Royale is a very comfortable hotel, I always use Best Western Hotels, for business and pleasure. The hotel has a great pool area for relaxing after a busy day. The resturant has a large varied menu for all tastes, the food is well presented and of a very high standard.

    « Perfect anniversary weekend »

My wife and I booked a two night stay to celebrate our anniversary. We're glad we chose the BW Royale. We booked by internet and the deal was 2 x DBB and a very scrummy complimentary cream tea each. The hotel itself has been fully refurbished in a cosy contemporary style. Our standard room was perfectly fine: clean, comfortable and with the niceties such as plentiful tea/coffee tray, hairdrier, flat-screen tv, additional pillows, etc. I did note there was no in-room safe (something BW may consider) although valuables may be deposited at reception. The bed was comfortable and outside noise was minimal as the road is not busy. The breakfast choice was extensive and buffet-style. It was of high quality and continually replenished. Tea or fresh coffee was served at table. Choices ranged from fresh fruits and continental meats selection, to freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat or toast, plus the standard 'full-english' all very tasty. Dinner was relaxed and very pleasant: The dinner of the DBB gave free choice to the menu, although some premium items (8oz sirloin for example) carried a small surcharge. The meals we had on both evening were very good indeed (I recommend the fish and chips!). The cuisine is varied but with additional signature oriental choices (beware the chilli if you like your food mild - it was fine for us). Vegetarian choice seemed limited but the hotel caters for specific requirement wherever possible. The bar and lounge areas are comfortable and relaxing. We found drink prices not too different from a premium bar. Parking was plentiful although it probably gets a little tight in peak season. There is a £2 charge to park overnight which seems pointless and should be removed. The free indoor pool is large and pleasantly warm. Free towels are available at reception. There is also a small adjoining garden which I'm sure would be well used on hot days. But the real cherry on the cake is the staff: the manager, the assistant manager, the bar staff and receptionists, everyone you meet is polite and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and always met with a smile. The management should be very proud of the team here. This may be a 3 star hotel but it doesn't know it - it punches well above it's weight. Thank you for a lovely stay.

    « Wonderful staff »

Booked this hotel not realising it was 3 star. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff. The bar and lobby was smart, our room was a little tired, but very clean. We had dinner bed and breakfast which was very good. The staff were all very kind and seemed happy in their work. There were a couple of minor matters that we needed to speak to the duty manager about, but he was quick and efficient in helping. Would happily visit again.

    « Consistently Good »

I stay here a couple of times per month (my office is nearby). The hotel is very well located, always immaculately clean, and superb value (particularly out of season when it is almost ridiculously well-priced). Restaurant is decent, breakfast is generally included at a very good price and is excellent. Friendly, very attentive staff. Overall very highly recommended.

« A very friendly hotel with excellent service »

My wife and I visited the hotel on a two night Travelzoo offer which proved to be excellent value. Our room was on the small side (with the price we were paying, you can't expect a suite!), but clean and adequate, as was the bathroom. The restaurant looked very nice with plenty of room around the tables, and the food and service were excellent. The staff were all very smart and couldn't do enough for us. The offer included dinner on the first night and we could choose from most of the items for three courses on the menu. Breakfast was even better and the hot buffet the best we have had, with all the choices tasting freshly cooked and delicious. Any item running low was immediately replaced - no waiting around for eggs to be cooked for example, as we have experienced elsewhere. The bar lounge is equally spacious and comfortable, and, although there was occasionally a wait to be served, Reception would send someone round immediately if requested. We would definitely go back, if Travelzoo can come up with the goods!

« Nice, but not perfect »

This is not a negative review. This hotel is perfectly fine. Rather than reiterate what is mentioned in other reviews I would like to highlight a few of the less obvious points. 1. This is quite an old hotel that has had a good facelift. The pictures of the rooms flatter them a little with wide angle lenses. I was in a family room and it was very small for 4. Perfectly fine, just small. 2. Our room was cold. The heating was on full but only came on in the evening and morning. The radiator only got warm and not hot, and so had no chance of warming the room. I mentioned this to reception and the excellent staff were very helpful and had an electric powered oil radiator up to my room in 15 minutes. The speed and availability of this leads me to think that mine was not an unusual comment. 3. The lift is small and old - 2 people max. You are not going anywhere in a hurry. 4. The parking at the hotel has bays that are about 50% too small. You simply cannot use all of the bays and stay within the lines. A small point, but when there is nowhere to park because spaces have been missed as they are too small, but there is actually space if guests had just parked using there own intuition and parked close to each other it is a little frustrating. 5. Foyer and bar area is lovely. 6. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. 7. 5 minute walk to seafront, and 15 minute walk to the pier.

    « "Standard Double Room" »

The Hotel location is perfect. Only 5 min walk to main shops and the beach. The reception staff were friendly however when I called down to reception to book a taxi I gave the man on reception the collection time and that was that. The reception did not call up to us to let us know when our taxi had arrived. Luckily we came down to find our taxi waiting and the driver was given the wrong collection time. Also we were asked if we would like to use the hotel pool but when we went to use it we had to walk back to reception in the rain to get the code and towels which we were not informed of this on arrival when we were asked if we would like to use the pool. Perhaps a bit of customer service training would be needed. Otherwise the room was clean and tidy. The pillows were extremely soft and there no others in the room. The shower pressure was awful too. Did not enjoy showering at all. Either the shower head needs cleaning or the pressure need looking at. Otherwise it was a good stay.

« Very nice long weekend.. »

My girlfriend and I decided to come to bournemouth for a long weekend. This was a spare of the moment thing and we were very glad of our choice. Just a short walk away from the beach (beautiful beach although quite busy), this hotel has lovely grounds and is situated on a very quiet, picturesque road. The shops aren't too far, within walking distance easily although some parts can be quite steep so many a drive down would be easier. The food as the restaurant I was not expecting. The presentation was fantastic, and the waiter was very friendly and nothing was too much hassle. As we stayed about a year ago I can't remember the exact prices but I know it was worth it. The pool was very nice. i recommend late evening/ dinner time, as this is when we went down there and we had the whole place to ourselves. Was very nice. Only cons to it I suppose was that there was no fridge in the room, and the rooms could be a little more soundproofed. Only minor things though.

« Excellent service at a reasonable price »

Very pleasant and efficient staff. Our room was 'nofrills' clean and tidy-the central heating radiator was supplemented by a free standing electric heater which was needed in March. Tea and coffee were provided in the room with more available on request. Breakfast had a good range of choice and the three course dinner was excellent. Free wifi was reliable and fast enough in room 300. The shower was hot even in the rush hours. The hotel is located a few minutes from the east cliff and 10 minutes from the town centre. Parking was adequate in March at £2 a day. We booked this using a voucher and it proved excellent value even out of the main season.

« Nice hotel...some bits perfect, others bits not quite! »

On arrival they did not have out booking...not a great start. The lady on reception could not have been nicer or more helpful. "Take a seat for five minutes and I will sort it out", and she did...good job they were not full!! We had a voucher deal and very good value it was. I rather liked the room, everything you touched in it felt expensive...a sign of decent quality all around I think. Taps in the bathroom, lights in the bedroom, power points with USB sockets. All rather nice and a well decorated room to add the final nice touch. Our room was towards the back of the hotel and nice and quiet, although the road to the front is not that busy. Breakfast was excellent and the evening meal which we had included in the voucher was very good, service in the restaurant was great. (I did find it slightly odd that even though the restaurant was not busy they seated what guests that were there all together in one corner!) So..what is not to like?? Well aside from them missing our booking you need to be aware that this hotel is a fair hike in to town and downhill all the way there and, well obviously up hill all the way back. It IS a fairly level walk to the station. Call it 15 mins to the station and 20 in to town at a gentle amble. The beach is nearer, but when you get to the "beach" you either take the inclined railway down the cliff side or it is a very steep walk down. I rather liked to hotel, bar prices as one might expect but a limited choice, no ales for a start, larger or bust for a beer.

    « A comfortable stay »

Check in was quick and pleasant. The lady on reception was very efficient and noticed that I alone was not staying in the main hotel. She offered to move me into the main building' which I accepted. The room was on the 3rd floor and was pleasant. The bathroom was clean. There was plenty of tea/coffee. Didn't use any of the facilities in the hotel so unable to comment. Check out was very efficient. A hour or so after I'd checked out, the hotel called me as I'd left some clothes in the wardrobe. They kindly folded them and left them at reception for me to collect. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

« Excellent value and good location for the Bournemouth International Centre »

The hotel is in Gervis Road and then just a short walk along Meyrick Road to the sea front at East Cliff - lovely for an early morning walk. Stayed Sunday night to attend a concert at the Bournemouth International Centre. West-facing, third floor, single en-suite room was quiet, clean, comfortable and warm. Public areas decorated and furnished in an attractive contemporary style. Plentiful breakfast buffet, cooked food, cereals, pastries and fruit. Staff courteous and helpful. Parking on site at £2 per night. 10-15 minutes easy walk to the BIC and town centre. Excellent value for money and would definitely stay here again. If you wish to go out to dine in the town centre, I can recommend the Cosy Club in Old Christchurch Road. Great food and lovely atmosphere.

« Excellent stat at the Best Western Royale »

I have stayed at the Best Western Royale on two occasions and I find the rooms very clean and comfortable and I like the fact that the receptionists telephones to see if you have settled in nicely. The breakfast is delicious, loads of choice and very comfortable bar area. Will book again. The hotel is in a good location for when I visit family and friends.

« Mixed, good in parts »

The greatest asset of this hotel is its staff, from the welcome when we arrived until the last staff member we talked with when leaving three days later, all were helpful, friendly and charming The Hotel is an older traditional building, which was fine, having stated the greatest asset, it is only right to record its greatest weakness. The rooms are spread over three floors, which are above the public rooms, these floors are served by ONE lift which holds TWO people max, or the stairs. As can be understood there is a tendency for a queue, even in the winter season and the stairs are well used but not always by choice! The food was okay for breakfast and the one set dinner we enjoyed, the menu for the dinner caused much amusement, describing a fish pie as ?day boat catch of the day? served with ?artisan bread? i.e. a roll was a little over the top?.. However the salmon fishcakes for starters were outstanding The Hotel Royale was not bad but we will go to a better hotel, next time we are in Bournemouth

    « Very relaxed stay »

arrived a little early for check in but no problem as room was ready, reception staff friendly and efficient. Our room was on the first floor at the front of hotel and surprisingly had a balcony which you could get onto, room was quite small but very clean bed soft and very bouncy but comfortable so all was well so unpacked. Phone call from reception to check everything was satisfactory, which I thought was a nice touch. Down to the bar for a little drink and a look round, pleasantly surprised of how clean it looked, but in need of some new fittings here and there and some new d/ glazing but still very nice. At about 6:30 I went to reception for a sewing kit, fan and to report out en suite toilet was blocked, receptionist said the manager would bring the fan and check out thr toilet and so I returned sewing kit in hand. Duty manager Gary arrived with fan and checked out the toilet and confirmed my diagnosis and said it will be sorted the next day as soon as we had left the room to go a wandering. My only thought was why had we not been offered another room because it would be some 14 plus hours before we would vacate the room so we would be expected to go down stairs each time we needed the toilet, which we thought was pretty poor, I don't know if the hotel was full that evening but even if it was I believe the hotel should have called a emergency plumber to sort out this issue hitch we did make a point in mentioning to the receptionist in the morning. Apart from that issue an enjoyable stay and would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

    « Very good service »

This hotel was the base for a weekend away, in proximity of the beach - just round the corner - and local attractions such as the Pier, the Russell Coates Museum and the shopping area. The good weather definitely helped us making the most of this. First of all the quality of the service must be noted. The staff is corteous and unobtrusive; the dining room service is attentive and keen to meet guests' requirements. The dining room, the bar area, the lounge and the facilities are well appointed and clean. The room, though not as stillish as the ground floor, was equally clean and had everything that was needed for a comfortable weekend. However, those with very light sleeping patterns may not like the creaking floors and the occasional plumbing noises. The overall rating in this review reflects this. The food was varied, plentiful and very good. A special mention must go to the mouthwatering desserts and the delicious breakfast (both English and continental are offered). I would consider returning to this hotel for a short break.

« Wonderful Service, Great Location »

Set just back from the sea front, a 10 minute walk from the Russel-Coates Museum and a 15 minute walk into town, this hotel has a great location. The food is great, the staff can not do enough to help. All round a great hotel for a stay in Bournemouth.

    « Good hotel - great food »

We had a group weekend at the Royale and were impressed. It is a good location- 5 mins from the sea front path and 15 mins walk ( max) from the shops. Hotel has nice bar, and good rooms. Value for money was also good but the best bits are the staff and the food! They could not be more helpful and the menu is outstanding! Good base to explore the area

    « Very nice »

Just had a very nice one night stay. Staff very helpful, lovely three course dinner and good buffet breakfast. Amazing value booked with Travel Zoo. Our room was quite small but adequate. Car park on site and they didn't mind us leaving our car there after we had checked out.

« Ideal for a few nights or more »

This is a nice hotel that is newly renovated. We had a very nice large twin, all brand new, lovely and quiet with all that you could want aside from a mini bar. The pool was a bit rundown but still a nice perk. Hearty breakfast, and a good location for the town, transport connections and the beach and pier.

« great location and great staff »

although we have stayed in BW hotels before it was the first time in this hotel. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The standard of cleanliness is very high and is an example of how a hotel should be presented to guests, The breakfast buffet was tasty and as vegetarians we found sufficient food to eat but a vegan may find it a bit more difficult. However I am sure that the staff would try to help

    « Good value. »

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Was really good value for a cheap hotel. Room was clean spacious and comfortable. Would have happily paid more for my room. Breakfast had a wide choice of both hot and cold food and was well organised. Would recommend this hotel and will stay here again.

    « Brilliant Staff »

Me my partner and our 19 month daughter arrived to find the lift had broken and we were on the 3rd floor in room 301, the hotel staff asked if we needed a hand with our bags but i decided to do that myself, the room itself was quite small for the 3 of us with not a lot of room for maneuvering around the bed, this is because the room is small but also because the room we were given had bunk beds which we didn't need which took up a lot of the space. After a few times of going up and down the stairs with a pushchair and the baby i thought i would ask the reception if they could put us on a lower floor if the lift is not going to be fixed for a while, the receptionist was brilliant she sorted us out a ground floor chalet at the back of the hotel which was much bigger than the room and easier to get in and out. Breakfast was excellent offering a full English buffet, cold buffet and continental choices, all the staff in the dinning area again were brilliant. The bar area is nice and what you would expect from a standard hotel although it can get a bit cold at night. The hotel have a pool free to use for all guests the pool is really nice and a good size. The only time you cant use the pool is between 10am - 12pm Mon - Fri due to baby swimming classes, the class instructor is not pleased when she sees people in the pool that she rents from the hotel if near the time her classes start, we were in the pool at 9:40am when she told said to us in a rude manner that the pool was shut for classes from 10am we advised her that we knew this but we still had 20 minutes, she didn't seem to happy, I think she doesn't like anyone in there 30 minutes before 10am because she likes to set the pool up for her classes but if that's the case rent the pool from 9:30 am or be nice to guests using it up to 10am, Overall a very enjoyable stay with brilliant staff, I could not fault the staff at all they were excellent.

    « Room for Improvement »

I understand that this is a recent addition to the Oceana chain which we use quite often. It is situated close by many of the other hotels in the group on East Cliff and is reasonably close to both the beach and bus routes into town although you can walk it in about 15-20 minutes (virtually all downhill to the town). We took advantage of an offer and really for what you pay, it is good value. What would make it even better value would be:- - A working lift although staff were more than happy to help out - Ability to turn the heating down at night. We slept with the windows open - Access to the swimming pool is very restricted as half the pool seems roped off and used extensively by a swimming instructor to teach children. While I understand and applaud this sensible use of the facility, it does mean that really only 2 guests can swim at one time. Although the children's morning lesson times are shown at Reception, there is no indication about the unavailability at other times. It would help if the hotel Reception displayed all pre booked sessions so guests could plan to use the pool outside these times. - The eggs served at breakfast looked very solid and dried out. However, you can request a boiled or poached egg cooked to order which is probably a much wiser option. Overall the breakfast display was quite fulsome but let down by items kept hot for extended periods. Hopefully the Oceana Group will back improvements to this hotel in the same manner as they have invested in their other hotels.

    « A wonderful stay »

We booked this hotel though Travelzoo for an overnight stay back in January, a little Birthday bargain treat (3 course meal and breakfast the following morning), to which I have to say we were a little wary beforehand as to what to expect, however I can honestly say that our stay was wonderful offering exceptional value for money. Upon arrival we were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from the receptionist and this was followed throughout the hotel (all staff were very friendly and smiley) The restaurant food was exceptional, both for quality and quantity and I have to mention the charming Italian Hotel manager who suggestions for our up and coming trip to Sorrento in September. Overall a fab hotel with friendly and welcoming staff and a great location, to which we hope to visit again later in the year with friends,

    « Another lovely stay »

Had our annual get together with friends and colleagues, and always a positive experience. Food and drink was good, though like most hotels has no real ale. Staff friendly and efficient, and location handy for a pleasant walk along front to Boscombe for tean and buns at the Urban Reef Café.

« Great value, ideal location, spacious room »

Under £50 for the night was great value for a lovely spacious chalet room for 2 adults a toddler and baby. The kids loved the swimming pool, nice and quiet. We paid £7 each for breakfast too which was not bad at all. Had dinner in the bar, I really enjoyed an omelette and chips with salad, food not that cheap but yummy. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Walked to the sea and left, down the zig zag path to lovely beach. Kids loved the sand and watching the kitesurfer. Next day walked to sea and turned right into town, cafe on pier good music and nice cakes, tourist info by pier very helpful & aquarium tickets slightly cheaper bought there. Aquarium was fun, small kids play area, penguins great to watch.... And turtles and sharks. We had a lovely break.

« super sunday by the sea »

Bought a great deal online for overnight stay with 3 course dinner and breakfast, arrived with a little trepidation as sometimes it's a deal for a reason!! We soon realised we were wrong with a lovely warm welcome at check in, our room was lovely with a huge comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities and flat screen TV. Dinner was delicious, the best panna cotta I have ever tasted! Breakfast was just as good with a fantastic choice of cooked and continental with fresh fruit and lots of tea and coffee. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and we are looking forward to coming back in the summer.

    « A delightful place to stay »

My second visit, on this occasion for a three-night 'chill out' stay. Lovely staff, without exception - so welcoming, friendly and respectful ('good morning/afternoon/evening' - no 'are you all right there?' here.) Wonderful food and ambience, and a very relaxed stay despite there being a group party staying at the same time. And thankfully no piped music in reception/bar/lounge (unobtrusive in restaurant). Excellent value too. A delightful hotel.

    « SHOWER »

Very nice place, lovely attentive staff, great food although breakfast one morning was a little cold. Shower was so low on pressure it was impossible to set the temp and the bath was to small to have a decent bath. with a considerable increase in water pressure for the shower there would not be anything but good things to say about the hotel in general.

    « Right Royal Stay »

This hotel is now part of the Oceana group where we normally stay but we decided to give The Royale a try. It's on the east side of Bournemouth about a couple of roads back from the cliff top and in a nice tree lined road. It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk into the town centre, maybe a bit quicker if you want the beach. Frequent buses run along the Christchurch Road about 5-8 minutes walk. Good size car park in front of the hotel for which there is a small, reasonable charge. We booked direct with the hotel who matched a special offer so thumbs up to them, we both won. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms fine. Beds comfortable although we struggled with the radiators that seemed to have a mind of their own as we hate sleeping in a warm room. Free wifi. We had a pleasant enough evening meal, not exciting but perfectly fine. Many thanks to the charming Italian Head waiter/manager who gave us a restaurant suggestion for our forthcoming trip to Venice, sorry didn't catch his name. I absolutely loved the decor in the lounge so maybe the guest rooms will get a similar update. We used the swimming pool which is in a separate building next door but were a bit dismayed to find half of it roped off for a lesson. That's ok but there was no notification on reception and as it's a small pool and another couple turned up we left sooner than we would have done otherwise. And now we come to breakfast...what can I say? Please, please, please ditch the hot buffet, actually cold and dried up buffet. There is the option for freshly cooked porridge and poached eggs so my advice is order the eggs to avoid the plasticised buffet fried eggs. The rest of the cold breakfast offerings were fine, cold meat, cheese, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, croissants etc. All in all a pleasant stay with a tiny bit of room for improvement.

« Another year, another excellent experience for our Ladies Festival »

Our annual gathering of over 70 guests. Since last year there has been a change of management but we needn't have been concerned as we all had a fabulous 3 days. This hotel has always been very good but this year it was outstanding. New chef produced fabulous food cooked to perfection - including perfect cauliflower for over 70 - which is not easy to achieve! and the best fish cakes ever, as commented on by people who have eaten at Wheelers or dined at Caribbean fish restaurants. I have a sweet tooth and the desserts were so good I managed 3 on one evening (I couldn't decide which choice to make was my excuse!). Housekeeping, bar staff, reception, dining room staff and the new manager, Gaetano, were all consistently friendly, welcoming, professional and made the weekend a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. Finally, but very importantly, a number of our group had impaired mobility but when the lift broke down , even though the hotel was very full, the manager immediately reallocated rooms to minimise the impact of the lift being out of action. Not only have we booked for 2017, we have booked for 2018!

Very nice place, good pool, perfect for doing lengths, good staff. Very nice room with everything I needed and plenty of room for everything I had. Very close to everything you would need to get to, and easy parking.

We booked this hotel though "Travelzoo" and it far pasted our expectations for value for money. The restaurant food was exceptional, both quality and quantity. Staff were friendly and efficient. Rooms were clean and well furnished.

    « A very pleasant stay »

We recently stayed three nights at the Royale-our third visit-and had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. The staff are very pleasant and helpful-on arrival we were told the lift was temporarily out of order and were offered assistance with our bags. Our room on the second floor was spotlessly clean as is the hotel in general. We ate in the Aqua Brasserie each night-a different menu since our last stay; plenty of choice, excellent quality and service -and very good value at the price offered to hotel residents.Breakfast buffet plentiful, cooked food always replenished when running low. The hotel is very conveniently situated for walking to the seafront and the town centre. The car park is quite large and I was always able to find a space when we did use the car, despite the hotel being quite full- there is a nominal charge, but you have to pay if you park in the road. Overall a really nice, comfortable hotel and would definitely recommend.

    « Overnight stay »

Visiting relatives in Bournemouth and stayed overnight. Spent a couple of hours in the lounge/bar which was very comfortable, and served by friendly helpful staff. Room was nice and comfortable, except the bed had a too soft sprung mattress, which meant you rolled a bit towards the middle. Not a satisfying nights sleep. Room was on 2nd floor, and quiet, but lift was out of order, so a bit of excercise after a dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent. Breakfast was in the same restaurant, and had a good choice of hot and cold meals, with attentive staff. There is a swimming pool/spa, which is next door, which I didn't use, but you have to go outside to use. In a nice area with a large car park, which costs £2 per night. Think the plumbing may need some attention, as hot water came out of the cold water tap initially, before turning cold!

    « We had a lovely time. »

Hotel was Clean, Tidy and most of the staff were helpful and well organised. Its well positioned for the City Centre and for the Cliff walks. Can't wait to go back there. The layout of the hotel is compact with everything being easily accessible. The bar area is nicely coordinated with matching furniture, painting and wallpaper very attractive. Unfortunately didn't use the Pool as too busy but looked good.

    « Friendly and smart »

We are regulars once a year to come and work for a few days, and this hotel ticks the boxes. Our biggest disappointment was that Des had moved on, our biggest pleasure was being told where the nicet bars and restaurants are by the ever helpful front desk staff. We even watched as the "Sheik" breezed past (appears to own many hotels in Bournemouth) and perhaps walls have already started coming down by now. We hope any changes do not lose the personal touch, this hotel works for business and families and that's an unusual combination in our experience. Will be back in 2016!

    4
    « Pleasant and inexpensive »

Stayed here before - it offers a good standard of accommodation. The room was well appointed, clean and comfortable if a little small. The heating was on constantly with no way to turn it off! Had to open windows so wasted heat. The restaurant offered a really good breakfast and dinner was pretty good too. Wine was well overpriced and in the evening the restaurant was chilly. Lounge and bar very comfortable. Didn't use the pool. The car park is a bit tight and there is a nominal charge - £2 per night which seems a bit odd. Staff all very helpful and friendly.

    5
    « Fab family room! »

Came to this hotel with my husband and 2 small children for a one night break to visit family in Bournemouth. The staff at check in were lovely, polite and helpful and we were pleasantly suprised to be allocated a chalet at the back of the hotel, in a separate building. The chalet was huge! It was very clean, plenty of towels and tea and coffee etc. We made use of the swimming pool which was nice and clean and open late. We didn't eat at the hotel as we met family but overall had a lovely stay and would defiantly use this hotel again.

    « February 2016 »

My first post on here. Prompted to share thoughts after a pleasant stay at the Royale. What made it so nice was the attitude of the staff who were friendly and helpful. The food was good quality and the waiting staff were very efficient in seeing to our needs. Some of the fixtures and fittings have seen better days but nothing I saw looked particularly bad. The hotel and in particular our room had been well kept and was very clean. A concern was the expected cold weather and after a day visiting Stonehenge it was nice to get into a nice warm room. To summerise I think the staff made it for me and I would recommend this hotel for the human touch it seemed to convey unlike some more clinical places I have stayed in.

    3
    « Pleasant stay overall »

Overall a pleasant stay, would stay again. Good location close to beach and town centre. Staff polite and helpful. Good value for money. Swimming pool well maintained. Food was good and good quality However the parking in shambolic, it's £2 a night and on a busy day you can't park there. The showers in room are barely functional due to the eco friendly scheme. Beds are lopsided but comfortable. And TV doesn't work and DVD slot taped over. Other hotel users set toaster on fire and burnt my toast. Room fairly cold but blankets provided. Found dirty knickers in freshly made bed, but not ours.

« The most customer focussed hotel I've stayed in »

All staff were genuinely friendly and displayed a happy attitude, creating a lovely atmosphere in the hotel. Very attentive to our requirements and made our stay a real pleasure despite the rubbish weather outside! Housekeeping spotted wedding anniversary cards in our room, and left a kind note and a little gift on our bed - just typical of their attitude to guests.

    « Best Western - February 2016 »

Our 3rd stay at this hotel and it is consistently good. Great food (we only had breakfast this time) and happy and helpful staff. The only negative is that the rooms was a little too hot for a comfortable nights sleep. We stayed in a chalet room for family of 5 and lots of space. Pool was great as usual. Didn't get chance to try out the facilities at the new sister hotels - but good to have the extra facilities option. Great value, good service and likely to return

    « Very good »

Staff were hard working and above friendly. Espically the manager. Perfect location to the town centre and beach. The room we were given was clean & comfortable, only thing I faulted was the floor boards were abit squeeky so could hear other people walking about in other rooms, other than that me and my partner had a lovely stay. We will be using this hotel again.

    4
    « Very welcoming »

We received a very warm welcome from all of the staff. The hotel rooms are a little dated and we had a problem with the window in our room. New double glazing would cure this problem, which we appreciate cannot be fixed overnight. It was very draughty, and at one point the curtains were actually billowing out into the room and we had to anchor the curtains to the sill with spare cushions. Having said that the room was warm enough and extremely clean.

    4
« Great location, good food »

Modern reception, lounge and bar in this well located hotel conveniently sited to get to the sea front and town centre. A tree lined location in a quiet area of Bournemouth, the hotel offers car parking at £2 per night. The restaurant is pleasant and offers a good choice of well presented cuisine at realistic prices including the wine list. Breakfast is a buffet and quite good can get busy and do not be late it closes prompt. In the car park is a indoor heated pool which is convenient and nice to visit after a day out. Our visit in February was a little cool due to heating not coming on until after 5.30pm as we had a larger bedroom it also took some time to get comfortable, otherwise all fine.

« Short break in Bournemouth »

My wife and I spent a lovely couple of days catching up with our son who is at university in Bournemouth, we stay at this hotel quite regularly having found it to be very well positioned. It is a short walk to East Cliff sea front (top of the cliff) and a very good location for walking to the shops in Old Christchurch Road and further down the hill to the centre of Bournemouth. Got a great deal for our stay at the Royale for Bed & Breakfast, service in the hotel was first class. Staff are friendly and polite and usually very helpful with any queries we may have.

    4
« good value, good location, well run »

Located a few minutes walk from the beach and pier in a quiet road with off street parking (£2 supplement) this established hotel offers good value for money. Check in and check out were simple and quick and the room was ready well ahead of check in time. Room 105 was small but clean and equipped with all the basics. Beware if you need total darkness to sleep and find yourself in this room because the external floodlighting creeps in despite heavy drapes at the windows. Eye shades might be the answer. The bathroom was clean and supplied with the usual toiletries and quality fluffy towels but the shower over the bath had a fixed head and a wrap-around shower curtain is never pleasant when it clings on! We made use of the indoor swimming pool (no jacuzzi or steam room) which was warm and clean, though you have to go outside to gain access. Dinner was excellent, well presented and served efficiently by young well dressed staff, though the 'loop' instrumental music sound failed to create the desired mood for evening dining. Breakfast was outstanding with lots of choice including cold meats and cheeses to suit continental tastes. Special mention should be made of the manager, Gaetano de Rosa, who provided faultless attention to detail in the restaurant (while simultaneously training young staff) with a blend of pleasant conversation and efficiency of action, setting an example to all staff. Well done Hotel Royale. We will stay again.

« Great Value For Money, Large Room, Clean & Tidy, Nice Place. »

We stayed 1 night B&B for around £40 which was a bargain, nice classic hotel in a quiet area, large room, clean & tidy, relaxed staff that were happy to help. Would stay again for sure. Lots of choice for breakfast also. Recommended.

    « The best choice »

Recently back from couple of nights at the Best Western Hotel Royale, down in UK for business, as usual BW did not let me down. The high quality and friendliness of the staff combined with their professionalism make this hotel stand head and shoulders above the rest. The quality of the cuisine is excellent. I enjoyed my meals in the house restaurant; I was very pleased I could pick between so many different options. As previously mentioned the service was way above standards.

    « Nice break »

Ideally situated for beach and pier in Bournemouth as only 10 minute walk away. Our room was excellent and the good sized swimming pool was perfect for my morning swim. Breakfast had everything your heart could desire and well cooked. I had dinner every night in the hotel and it was superb, plenty of choices yummy I will say, comfortable weekend break and to be looked after by friendly and helpful staff. Very well done to the Management, good always starts from the top.

« Cheap one night away »

Can't really complain too much for the price paid, but the 'double' room we had was hardly big enough to swing a cat (not that we tried); and the bed was certainly a very small double at best. However it was clean and tidy - and for one night didn't matter! Staff were friendly enough; but didn't seem that 'on the ball'. Couldn't get a coffee at midnight as the machine had 'just been cleaned', and the following morning they couldn't find anyone who knew how to use the machine lol... So all in all... If you fancy a coffee, then take a flask! Still made for a giggle and somewhere different to go!

    « Average »

Staff very nice, always polite and helpful but hotel is a little tired and the room I was allocated was very dark with bad drafts from the windows which didn't seal properly. In room wi fi didn't work for two days and staff seem unable or unwilling to sort the problem out. Limited recreational facilities with only a pool which had to be accessed by going outside the hotel, which was not convenient in the rain.

    « Amazing deal »

We had an amazing overnight stay here last weekend. The hotel was very clean and modern and the room was a nice size with large bathroom. Our deal included 3 course evening meal and breakfast. All the food was delicious and well presented with lots of choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed here in order to see our son who is in halls and the hotel is in very close proximity and making this easy to do. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.

A great stay in this very nice hotel! The room was good and well supplied with tea/coffee/milk & biscuits. In the bathroom there was complimentary toiletries. We ate in the Aqua Brasserie in the hotel for our evening meal and breakfast which were included. The evening menu was fantastic, I think they just started the new menu, fabulous choices the food was great and nicely cooked! We picked the Asian meals, I will say superb! The same for breakfast, which was a well stocked buffet with hot and cold food. The most outstanding quality about this hotel is the niceness of the staff! Cheerful and happy in their work and helpful and welcoming to the guests! The bed was comfortable and the pillows were good quality. Free wifi worked well in the room as well! Hotel is in a nice road in a good location...10 mins walk way to Bournemouth railway station and a short stroll to the seafront, the cliff railway and a nice walk along the beach to Bournemouth town. Close to the university for anyone visiting there! Highly recommended will certainly return! thanks for all Mr. Gaetano De Rosa i hope to see you soon

« Best place to stay when in Bournemouth »

After a quick read through the reviews and checking deals, we decided to stay here. This was our second option but we did make the right decision. We got a good deal on booking through hotel website, for bed and breakfast. Hotel Location - hotel is located very close to Bournemouth beach and is 5 mins away, by walk. Its close to the Bournemouth Coach Station as well. We walked from Coach/Train Station and it took us 15-20 minutes. You will get restaurants which are 10 mins away by walk, and the area is pretty safe to walk in the night, as its mainly a residential area. There are couple of hotels nearby but no non-sense. Room Location - when we checked-in, at the reception, we were told that to get to our room, we have to exit the hotel, take a left and then walk straight towards the hotel parking lot. 'Huh !!!'. Yes - we were booked in chalet rooms which were outside of the Royal Hotel main building. It happened for the first time with us that we were asked to walk out of the hotel building to get to our rooms :) There are rooms in the main building where you have the banquet hall, restaurant, bar but wondered where is the entrance as I could not see 'this way to your room' mentioned anywhere. Room - room itself was pretty big for two of us with a bed, study table, chairs, tv and wardrobe. It did not have a locker so if you are carrying any valuables please lock them in your bags if you want to keep them safe. Room was quite but you could hear people talking in the next room - walls are pretty thin I guess. Washroom was huge too, you could easily put a bed in their. Seems these rooms were built recently as the fixtures and condition was pretty good and new. When we moved in the room, it was cold. We called the reception as the heating was not working - then we were told that the heating starts at 6 PM automatically. Hotel was kind to provide portable heater in the room. Bed was not very comfortable but room did come with extra pillows and blanket. Breakfast & Service - our package included breakfast and it was form 8 AM to 10 AM. Food was decent enough considering the brand and hotel start rating. Croissants were cold tough, and fruits weren't fresh on the first morning of our stay. It becomes very busy after 9 AM. If you order Cappuccino or Latte, you have to pay extra - read through the breakfast menu on your table. We had a comfortable stay, and chalet room was not a problem at all. It gets very cold so if you want more heating, do not hesitate to ask for a portable room heater. Hotel do have an indoor heated pool but we did not use it. So if you fancy a plunge, take your bathing suit along with you.

    « ???????????????? »

This hotel I can't fault. The staff were brilliant, helpful, hard working and above friendly. Nothing was to much trouble. Always smiling despite the long hours they work. You would see a person at breakfast and later working the bar. The room we were given was clean & comfortable, plenty clean towels, linen & tea coffee. The breakfast was very good. Sometimes when a buffet meal is being served some of the food can tend to go slightly dry, but this was not the case, the food was always very good. There was also a choice of toast, cold meats etc. We had a evening meal in the main restaurant Aqua Brasserie, one of the best meal I ever had! The staff seems always ready to go the extra mile for you always with huge smiles on them faces. Thank you hotel Royale for the great experience given to us, we did feel very special.

« visited for two nights stay end oct beginning nov 2015 »

The service from the staff was above average . First night was spent in a very small room with single glazing. It also had a smell of cigarette smoke or similar - not nice ! Got woken at 0430 by swing door from staff working on ground floor. 2nd night got moved to much better room. Restaurant Manger took too much charge and allocated seats. and stuck me on one side of the dinning room whilst everyone else was put on other side. Not very friendly for a first time visitor to Best Western Experience. The young night porter and eve. bar lady were very helpful, pleasant and professional. Parking was very tight in places damage to low bumpers very possible.

« If you like sleep, don't stay here! »

We arrived to a fairly warm welcome, little did we know that was as good as it would get. Courtesy of other guests is a bit pot luck but to hear EVERYTHING from all sides due to paper thin walls is not acceptable. On the first night our neighbours returned to their room about midnight where the tv was quickly turned on as if it was in our room. This was followed by a telephone conversation to which all secrets were revealed and then for the couple to take it in turns to use the toilet to which every trickle was a joy to hear! At about 1am, we managed to get to sleep only to be woken at 2:15am by some altercation between 2 or 3 lads above shouting and throwing things around - it appeared whoever had paid for the room was no longer welcome but didn't want to leave quietly (could have been an Eastenders script!). This went on for some time and peaked at about 3:15am - A great first night! After speaking to reception in the morning requesting if another room on the top floor in a hopefully quieter part of the hotel was available to which any possible change of room was instantly declined, we were really looking forward to our 2nd night... The 2nd night was not quite as bad, however let me be clear this still involved listening to our neighbours use the toilet, trickling to some tune but we were unable to name that tune and on this occasion the gentleman clearly having a good night sleep snoring away - at least someone was able to sleep. All in all it was a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend - NOT! Actually we couldn't wait to get home and go to bed. We will never stay here again and I would advise anybody who enjoys a few hours of sleep to think very carefully about staying here!

« Best Western Hotel Royale »

Spent a couple of nights in this hotel to celebrate my wife's birthday with a shopping trip. Had a very good experience at this hotel during our stay. The reception staff are very polite and knowledgeable about the local area. The Restaurant and bar staff are very helpful and couldn't do more to make us feel welcome. The room we booked was a superior room and was well worth the money, it was spacious, clean, tidy and had everything I would expect to find in a hotel.

    « .... »

Really awful. Room smelled, breakfast was greasy. Outside of hotel very badly kept. About half the staff were very pleasant. The other staff seemed to hate my presence. Bad experience. Really bad. Room cleaned well most days but not all. Tiny single room. Cheap interiors.

    « Fantastic »

Our room was fantastic very spacious and clean. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you. The hotel was in a good location and close to the train station. Could not fault our stay was absolutely brilliant cannot wait to return.

« Great hotel for the price »

Last minute booking for new years eve/day break with partner and children. Was pleasantly suprised when we arrived as the hotel appears much grander than the price for our stay! The room was rather small but had everything we needed. Staff friendly, helpful and always had a smile. Breakfast was amazing. ..hot fresh cooked food and an array of cold food available. Coffee offered as soon as we sat down and staff on hand if you require anything. The rooms may not be top of the range but they are clean and well cared for...what do you expect for the price!! I have stayed in many hotels where I have paid at least double the price but have received half of the service. £2 to safely park your car securely off road. ..and people are moaning about this. Seriously try Brighton £25 to park overnight or bournemouth hotels were there is no parking!! I always find something to complain about but here I could not. Had such a great stay myself and my partner are returning this Friday ?? without the kids woo hoo!

    « A bit outdated »

Room and furniture are quite old... however it was possible to have a decent sleep and a nice walk on the beach in the morning. Staff was ok and breakfast was good. I would advise it s not the same room level as could be expected by the brand

    4
    « Good with kids »

We stayed here with a 2&4 year old. We had a family room with bunkbeds which was very average but clean and had everything we needed could of done with being a little bigger purely so when the kids were asleep we could of watched TV without disturbing them. The beds were right next to each other so was quite snug. There was a pool which we used which was good and it was empty so my kids loved it. It is very central and we were able to walk everywhere. Our rate included breakfast and this was really nice lots of choice.

    « Average Stay »

One night stay for business purposes and stayed in a single room (109). I spend a lot of time in Bournemouth on business and have stayed in many hotels, but this is the first time I've been asked to pay for parking (£2). which was disappointing. Room itself could do with some decorating, and there was some water dripping onto the fire escape immediately outside the window, probably due to a worn out roof gutter which caused a lot of noise when raining.. Wifi was good, breakfast buffet was fine. As with many hotels, some noise from other rooms (mainly above), but not too excessive. Wouldn't be my first choice when booking in Bournemouth in future, but certainly not the worst either.

    « new year stay »

we stayed here on new years eve night. a very comfortable room. next morning the breakfast was fautless, with plenty of choice for everyone. very welcoming staff. parking was a bit tight and had to pay, not much £2 for one night. a short walk to the sea front.

« Great Stay, Highly Recommended »

We have just returned from a great stay at this hotel. Our family ( children aged 4 and 6) loved it and staged in a large chalet room (number 123). Superb value, friendly staff and nice pool. A good location - we would definitely come back.

    « Fantastic Christmas »

Have just returned from spending Christmas at the Royale. The service was excellent, our food was plentiful and well presented. Entertainment from carol singers, Salvation Army band and keyboard p;ayers made sure we enjoyed our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable beds and seating areas. Above all, congratulations to the catering staff who provided such a generous and varied menu.

    4
« Great stay, shame about the parking »

We would have given this hotel 5 stars for customer service at reception and restaurant and 5 stars for a spotlessly clean room which was comfortable and spacious for a standard room Our isue was being charge £2 a night for car parking on site which, frankly, we found disappointing. Why can't BW just incorporate the cost into the overnight rate. There are plenty of other hotels in town who don't charge for this and BW are not doing themselves any favours by levying this additional cost What a shame. We had a great stay which was spoiled by an unnecessary imposition

« My stay in Bournemouth »

I stayed here for 7 weeks during period between selling my house and buying a new house; very welcoming hotel staff and well situated for restaurants in Bournemouth and sea front, the pool is a really useful addition to usual hotel services and car parking is adequate for all patrons - Recommended.

« Works Event and Hotel Stay »

We recently had our Works Evening at this Hotel, and I also stayed overnight. Organising such a big event is a total nightmare usually - however the staff at the hotel, and Lisa the Sales Manager in particular were incredibly helpful. The room was decorated in a fantastic way and we were really well looked after. The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable, and the general staff were amazing. We shall certainly be using this venue again professionally and I will recommend it personally. Thank you for a job well done!

« tirerd rooms but friendly staff »

maybe a little harsh for rating the hotel poor but that's only because room was in need of updating and bathroom was not clean ,when led in bath you can see parts of the bathroom have never ! been cleaned for a very long time, like under taps and rails also blinds were broke and full scaffolding around hotel .in its full glory the cost of room is fine but in the hotels current state I think this should be reflected in the price ...on the plus side good breakfast and all hotel staff I met were very friendly and helpful

    « improvements needed »

recently stayed in room 303 for 3 nights, the room was cold because of a gap in top left hand window, the shower was more of a drip than a shower, so had to use the bath 3 times, the radiator got warm but not hot and went off around 10.30pm. Also someone thought it funny to set the television to come on at 4.30am on saturday and sunday morning. At breakfast the atmosphere from some of the staff seemed very unwelcoming, the older gentleman waiter on Monday morning, was very polite and helpful and seemed to do more work than some of the other staff half his age at the weekend. I'm not surprised I was wasn't asked if i'd had a good stay when I checked out. I'm a regular visitor to Bournemouth but won't be staying here again. Maybe they should compare themselves to the Connaught west cliff, its much better.

    « Cheap and cheerful »

I stayed in room 203, which I understand is due to be refurbished. My review is based on my two night stay in the room in its current state, in December 2015. I did not use any other facilities in the hotel. This is a small single room, featuring a single bed, small desk, wardrobe, and ensuite with bath. The decor, fixtures and fittings are a mixture of styles and ages from ~60s through to present. Although many are dated, they are all clean and well presented. The radiator in the room has had more coats than I have. Upon my arrival, the toilet did not flush and the bedside lightbulb had gone. I managed to fix the toilet myself by adjusting the float valve, and the bulb was replaced on the day I mentioned it. The curtains do not have any heavy backing and allowed the orange light from exterior lighting to pour through. This wasn't too bad in my December stay, but could be annoying in brighter seasons. The internet was inaccessible via WiFi for the duration of my stay; this was a local BT issue which has now been resolved. 4G via the Three network performed well. The bedside table contains a Christian religious work. The car park is £2 per day, which is reasonable for the area. The staff I interacted with were friendly. I have rated this as an average stay; the easily fixable toilet / light / religious book before my arrival prevented this from being very good. Once the referb has been completed I'm sure this will become Excellent, for the price.

« Fantastic hotel with lovely staff »

We stayed for 2 nights on 4th December & despite arriving whilst a Christmas Party was in full swing we checked in, by a lovel6 lady & sat in the bar where we were looked after so very well by the Bar Staff. Our room was lovely with a very comfy bed. We had a superior room & the little extras were most welcome. It overlooked the front of the hotel. We had breakfast on the Sunday which was delicious. A lovely selection to suit most tastes. The location is great - 10 mins walk to the city centre. Pleasant walk even on a wet & windy day. Parking is £2 per night but worth it. Our car was safe & secure. We had a wonderful stay at the hotel & all the staff were friendly. We will hopefully return soon & thank you for making our stay so welcoming.

« Nice and friendly place to stay »

Actually, this place could easily get an overall rating as "very good" because it's conveniently located, has friendly staff, spacious and clean rooms, comfy beds, great breakfast buffet and menue and, in my opinion, a good value-for-money ratio. Anyway, my overall rating as "average" has two main reasons: First of all and very important for me as a business traveller: Wifi is not working properly - not even strong enough to check email! There is a sign at the front desk that they are working on it and staff does apologise and they even offer a connection to another network that is working in the lobby and the kitchen area only... (not of much use if your room is on the third floor). However, I arrived on Monday and two days later it's still not fixed... And even though the hotel might not be blamed for that, it is extremely unconvenient for me! The second minor reason is the shower; there's simply not enough water pressure to shower properly and it is difficult to adjust the temperature... Well, besides those issues, I still enjoy my stay as I sleep very well and get a good start into the day with a delicious breakfast - sleep and food is fine, what more does one want?

« Excellent value - No Surprises - much as expected from BW branded hotel. »

Stayed here for the first time on DB&B basis for 5 nights in late Nov. Reception went smoothly, my room was ready early which suited me very well. Room on 3rd floor was fine, well equipped and pleasant, if slightly dated. Bed was very comfortable and I slept well throughout my stay. Heating, however was strange - radiators were encased for decor reasons, I assume - but this made it hard to assess heat levels in the room. Best of all were dinners in the brasserie, a reasonable choice, good quality food and excellent value for what I paid. Breakfasts were good though not exceptional. Staff were attentive and professional throughout, special plaudits here to Maria in housekeeping and her lovely smile. I enjoyed my stay at the Royale. It's hard to fault it and I would certainly stay there again. That said, somehow it lacked atmosphere - a bit staid really - but maybe that's just down to personal taste.

    « Great staff,Ideal location. »

Hotel Royale,Bournemouth is set in a quiet road within easy walking distance of all Bournemouth's amenities. It is also on the bus route of all buses which travel from Poole to Southbourne via Bournemouth so anywhere can be reached. The hotel has an excellent bar area which is quiet and not expensive. It also has a well appointed dining room and the food is excellent. We had a problem with our shower and we were moved to another room with no trouble and the staff couldn't do enough to accommodate our comfort.

« Friendly staff, good stay »

Only stayed for 1 night but other than squeaky floorboards in my room and the room above it was a great stay. The gentleman behind reception was extremely friendly and welcoming. He advised me that there would be a function going on and that it would all be finished by 1am. Too be honest as it was December I half expected it. We were in a room on the 2nd floor and as the band were warming up we could hear it, so Im not to sure how loud it would have been if you were located on the 1st floor. There was a note on the bed advising us again that there was a function on and they offered you free earplugs if you wanted them. Room was very clean as was the bathroom. Dinner was very good as was breakfast. No complaints. Would definitely stay here again.

« Good location, lovely staff! »

We stayed at end of November with my sister and brother-in-law. We had a lovely room and the breakfast was superb. The location was brilliant, we walked to the pier and walked into town. Didn't use the car at all over the wekend which was great. The staff were friendly and attentive. Only drawbacks were having to pay for parking and problems with the wifi that weekend. We will definitely be returning there!

Good ? Good location. ? Nice breakfast buffet. ? Specious room. Bad ? As a Diamond member, no free room upgrade or Recognition Gift. ? Weak water pressure from shower. ? Low ceilings. ? Ground floor & no windows. ? Bad Wifi signal with slow internet, not possible to stream videos.

« Dated hotel - lets the best western brand down »

I stayed in this hotel in November and found it very cold and soulless. The interior is in need of a refurb. The rooms were small (as expected) but cold. Cleaners left the windows open in a storm and there was no heating to warm up the room. Not comforting when you've been out in the cold all day. Bed very uncomfortable with very thin duvet. I would not stay in this hotel again.

    « Couldn't find a better hotel for service »

I took a party of 71 to Hotel Royale Bournemouth for a Ballroom and Sequence Dance Holiday. Although the dance floor wasn't really large enough we coped. And had a great time. The hotel was superb and the staff more than excellent. In fact the service given from every member of staff from management level to the cleaners was better than first class. Nothing was too much. We were taken care of from the minute we arrived until we departed. I cannot recommend the hotel enough. We will definately be looking at going back again soon. I did not have one bad comment from any of my party. The food was amazing at every meal time and choices we had were wonderful and different to a lot of hotels we've stayed.

    « Week Long Stay »

Nice hotel to stay in, not far from the main drag for food etc. Room was pleasant & comfortable. Was somewhat warm but to be fair it was unseasonably mild outside for November! Only let down were Wi-Fi connectivity problems but I guess we were just unlucky on that front.

    « 3 Nighter Stay »

Booked in here for a 3 nighter 15-18 November and had a lovely time. This is a Best Western 3 star but a very good 3 star, The staff were absolutely lovely, very friendly and always attentive. The rooms were lovely and clean with loads of wardrobe space and enough hangers!!!

    « Lovely stay »

Nice clean room. Lovely but a little bit pricey food and drink, but you get what you pay for ? delicious. Pool was a good size and clean. Staff were helpful, polite and friendly. Parking cost at £2 a night. Buffet breakfast was all lovely, well presented and cooked well. No complaints here.

    « Overnight stay »

Nice big hotel competitive prices! Dinner was a dismal affair as I think the main dining room was taken over with a function, I couldn't get out fast enough which spoilt my enjoyment of a dining experience as a women on her own but my main meal of calves liver was excellent. My bed was comfortable but every floorboard creaked! Breakfast in the main dining room was more pleasant overall a good hotel and reasonable but beware there is a small charge for the car park

« Westerly Owners Association AGM and Dinner/Dance »

We needed an Hotel that could accomodate up to 80 people for an event. Hotel Royale provided us with a meeting room for the day and the whole of the Restaurant for a dinner and Dance. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and made our organisation easy. We had about 35 rooms for the night and our members were very compementary regarding the room standards and the efficiency with which the dinner was prepared and served. Thank you all at the Hotel Royale

    « Just one night »

We Checked in nice and early. Check in was efficient, no queue, and our room was ready. Our Room was on the first floor, comfortable, with a good sized 5 foot bed. Plenty of space for our belongings. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal, so we were looking forward to our dinner. We had pre-dinner drinks in the bar, which were nice, and went in for our meal. Service was quick and efficient. The food was very tasty and of good quality, and at a good price, in fact we would be happy to eat there even if we were not staying at the hotel. Sleep was good, little disturbance from neighbouring rooms or outside. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful, a good choice, and a simple format of help yourself to the buffet. Parking at the hotel is a little strange, as there is a barrier, which is great for security, but they make you pay £2 per night to park there. The cost isn't an issue, but does it really make any sense to charge a paying guest £2 to park for a night?

« quality of key staff »

Very nice hotel. Would happily stay there again and it is likely we will re-visit this hotel within the next 2 months. Will also recommend to friends and family members. We (myself and my Wife) booked this break at very short notice although we do know the area. What differentiated this hotel was the quality of key staff. Reception always had a cheery approach. Although it might be bad manners to draw attention to 2 exceptional members of staff. The main person was GAETANO DE ROSA (Senior Manager) who was always ready to help or advise on aspects of the hotel and in Particular as the Maitre D in the restaurant. . He also had a truly excellent assistant/waitress in Kristina G who again was always prepared to offer advice and to spend time talking to the diners. Both of these people always had a smile on their faces and were always willing to stop and provide a response on food and drinks. In my opinion the hotel was a much better place with these 2 members of staff

nice hotel, great staff, good food and the swimming pool was nice.stayed in a nice room 313.Hot water kept varying in temperature, a new shower would solve this problem. not sure charging for the car park is worth upsetting your guests over but that's the hotels choice.

« In need of a major facelift »

A mixed group of 18 of us stayed at this hotel mid October. The hotel is in need of major refurbishment, the carpets in the public areas are in places very worn and all of the floors creak making it nearly impossible to sleep through the night if people are returning to their rooms after you. The hotel restaurant was not a good experience for our group, a buffet type meal had been laid on for us on the Friday night and the two choices were very overcooked chicken and braising steak. The service was very poor and I complained to the Manager on the night who, in fairness, did provide all 23 of us with a free glass of wine for the wait that we had due to bad service. Bar prices are ridiculously high, £18.95 for a bottle of the cheapest wine, yes I know hotel prices are more expensive but this was excessive. The pool area was clean, however the pool liner/edges of the pool are very dirty and this put off a lot of my group going for a swim. The hotel is in a good position for accessing the beach and the parking overnight is very cheap. I would not stay here again due to poor service and the tiredness of the hotel.

    « Suprised »

I have stayed at this hotel on a few occasions and have always had a descent room but not on this occasion, the room was tiny and very very tired with thread bear carpet and the cleanliness left a bit to be desired, there were large cobwebs at eye level in the corner of the room, so I left them to see how long it would take to clear away, still there when I left...

« Very happy with this hotel »

My friend and I booked a "deal" for one night which included bed, breakfast and evening meal. I knew it would be an acceptable hotel but was pleasantly surprised on arrival. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room (there had been a little confusion as we requested a twin room and were given a double but they soon sorted it for us) was spacious and the beds comfortable. All was clean. I suppose the Wi-Fi was a bit slow but that wasn't 100% necessary and we were able to use it for periods of time. We were also surprised that we could choose from the a la carte menu. Both dinner and breakfast were of a good standard. We would definitely return.

    5
    « Welcoming »

This hotel I can't fault. The staff were brilliant, helpful, hardworking and above friendly. Nothing was to much trouble. Always smiling despite the long hours they work. You would see a person at breakfast and later working the bar. The room we were given was clean & comfortable, plenty clean towels, linen & tea coffee. The breakfast was very good. Sometimes when a buffet meal is being served some of the food can tend to go slightly dry, but this was not the case, the food was good. There was also a choice of toast, cold meats etc. We did not have an evening meal in the hotel, but I was informed by other guests the food and service were excellent. A member if one family recommended the fish and chips. When we checked out, our bill was presented and priced on a daily basis. I had never come across this before. It was explained to me the reason was so that if a customer was to use, (for example), room service one day, the next day drinks from the bar, charged to the room. The items could be kept separate, in case of dispute. This system is to protect both the customer and the hotel. The hotel pool was good, it's a bit small and could get crowded but it's fine for a hotel of this size. I said I couldn't find a fault, perhaps to much chorine in the pool? Eyes stinging. I hope this review helps. Well worth a visit. If the hotel management read this, Thank you. Howard

    « 60's throwback! »

A very tired hotel in need of updating. Most uncomfortable bed in a cramped bedroom looking like a throwback from the 60's. The window didn't close. The waiter didn't know whether or not they did toasted teacakes and had to show him them on the lounge menu. When they came, they had been microwaved not toasted and were almost inedible. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful and, as we were only staying 1 night, put this one down to experiance.

    « Good for business »

Well located (10 minutes walk to the town centre) hotel with own (chargable - £2 overnight) private parking. Good room, breakfast (although coffee could be better) and overall experience. Ideal for business.

    « Short Break. »

Have stayed at this hotel before and expect to do so again. Reasonably convenient for walking to town centre and resort facilities and plenty of parking. Food and service very good. Only one small lift for two people at a time. Some traffic noise in bedrooms at the front. Steps up to front door.

If your looking for a fairly cheap no nonsense room near the center and beach, then this place fits the bill. Only ever had single rooms, which are very small, no idea if double rooms are much larger.

    « Extremely welcoming »

My Partner and myself booked into this hotel for a friends wedding and a well deserved break away as he is currently undergoing a course of Chemotherapy. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist. We stayed in room 120. The room was on the second floor and was extremely clean and spacious. Tea and coffee plentiful. The massive double bed was really comfy. The bar area was spacious and staff very helpful. We had paid for breakfast. You were spoilt for choice. From a range of cereals, fresh fruit salads, croissants, and various choices of cooked meats and a cooked English breakfast. What I thought was really welcoming was the fact that everything that was meant to be hot was including the plates. Fresh ground coffee served in pots to your table just finished off the brilliant service. My Partner had to have certain foods cooked from fresh and when we asked this was done at a moments notice. If I had to find a minus in our 3 day stay it would be the height of the bath but maybe that's because I have a smashed up knee making it a tad harder to get in to have a shower ( or old age ) If it's a break you need then I would certainly recommend this Hotel and I am certainly looking forward to visiting again.

« Very nice hotel & great staff!! »

Stayed here with friends in august for 2 days and our stay was lovely! It was our second time and we will definitely be back. Nice swimming pool, polite accommodating staff, lovely breakfast! The only thing that might bother some - are squeaky floors. You can hear people walking upstairs. But this didn't ruin our stay.

A great hotel with lovely staff and good food. Easy walking distance to seafront, and about 10 to 15 min walk to town. Enjoyed buffet breakfast, and evening meal. Lovely lounge/bar area. Didnt have chance to use pool facilities.

    « Brilliant hotel! »

A great stay in this very nice hotel! The room was good and well supplied with tea/coffee/milk & biscuits. In the bathroom there was complimentary toiletries. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were good quality. Free wifi worked well in the room as well! We ate in the Aqua Brasserie in the hotel for our evening meal and breakfast which were included. The evening menu was good and varied, the food was great and nicely cooked! The same for breakfast, which was a well stocked buffet with hot and cold food. The most outstanding quality about this hotel is the niceness of the staff! Cheerful and happy in their work and helpful and welcoming to the guests! Hotel is in a nice road in a good location...10 mins walk way to Bournemouth railway station and a short stroll to the seafront, the cliff railway and a nice walk along the beach to Bournemouth town. Close to the university for anyone visitng there! Highly recommended will certainly return!

    « Lovely Long Weekend »

We telephoned ahead for a quiet room as we had stayed here before and had a room at the front which turned out to be a bit noisy ( people and traffic). We arrived early on a Friday morning and asked if they could call us when the room was ready as we wanted to do some shopping in town. The receptionist called us about 1 pm. She said a room at the rear of the hotel had been allocated to us but there was a family room available in the chalets behind the hotel which had more space. The room was VERY spacious, so was the bathroom and very warm. But could have done with a bit bigger TV as the bed was so far away from it!!!! We used the pool twice - warm and clean and the Sunday afternoon - no one else there. Had one evening meal in the restaurant which was good with polite service. New manager very nice, helpful and knowledgeable - he remembered names and what you had planned the day before - asking how things had been. Breakfast was good BUT not everyone wants a full English breakfast - just cereal and toast and it would be nice to have some decent, crusty, uncut bread for toast rather than the sliced bread that went soggy after toasting. Any chance of a safe in the rooms??? Otherwise all excellent. Look forward to returning in the near future.

    « Small Bedroom »

Second visit to this hotel this year. Very happy with restaurant, all staff very pleasant, lounge area comfortable. Only groan size of bedroom, double bed but little space either side of bed. Bathroom good except size of bath - would suit a very small person. Excellent position for east cliff .

    « Good location »

Other than the reception when we arrived all the staff were great. Reception needs to improve with a smile and a welcome as it will create a good first impression. Room was clean and comfortable but avoid the third floor as there is very little water pressure and water temperature can vary dramatically when water is turned on in another room. Food is good and good service.

« Great Service, Great Food, Great Location »

We wanted a room for one night to break our journey between a few days in the New Forest and a few days in Weymouth. We often choose Best Western because I am in their Rewards scheme. We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Everyone was very friendly from the moment we checked in to the whole dining experience (the staff were very friendly with our 3 year old and they had books and puzzles to occupy her). The food was very reasonably priced, good portions and very tasty. Next day, we were only a 10 minute walk away from the Pavilion.

« Good value for money »

Staff are good and it is reasonably priced. Decent location, not that I have ventured out on my last two visits. I have stayed in Bournemouth a lot and it is easy to get around from here. In truth the rooms could do with a bit of TLC. It wouldn't stop me from staying there as the price is so good. Food is decent for the money too.

« Nice building & location but rather aged »

The outside of the building is lovely and there is plenty of parking but for some reason the hotel charges £2 per night! The reception and entrance area is smart and looks fairly up to date and check in was quick and easy but although I'd been told I would have a room update through my GCCI I was given an ordinary room which had a very musty smell by the door. The room was a reasonable size but fairly dark but it did have tea/coffee making facilities and a working TV. The bed was large but rather hard with uneven parts of the mattress, the pillows were fine with more in the wardrobe if needed. The bathroom was large & airy but could have done with more shelf space. There was a bath with a shower and the shower pressure was reasonable. There was a reasonable choice at breakfast and at least the tea & coffee were brought by staff rather than been self service from machines. The hot breakfast was ok but the quality of the sausages was rather poor and the food was not very hot. There was free WiFi but as I didnt use it much I'm not sure how fast it was. The staff were all very friendly & helpful but the bedroom could do with a facelift and the quality of the breakfast needs improving but the hotel is within 5 mins of the beach & restaurant/shops.

« All hotels should be like this! »

This is an amazing hotel. Really friendly and very professional staff, impeccably clean and good value for money. Because of a delayed property purchase, I have been staying here for several weeks and it's become more of a "home from home" for me! I can't recommend the hotel highly enough. Don't forget to have the fantastic breakfast and the bar snacks are great too!

    « A great break »

Excellent hotel for rest & relaxation. Great staff, good rooms, great breakfast. Not to far from the shops, restaurants, bars, nightlife &, of course, the beach. Excellent views from the East Overcliff road across the English channel & the bay.

    « Great Hotel »

Already booked Monday & Tuesday Nights but decided to go on Sunday, rang before & they said no problem arriving a day early. Arrived & said we wanted a large room this was no problem & given a family room. All staff were very friendly & worked hard. I was trying to pick out a staff member who shone but can say they are all great. It appears they have a large amount of return guests & not surprised. Informed this is there smallest hotel & staff work as a team. Well Done.

    « AUTUMN BREAK »

Had a lovely break here but the first room we had a nightmare with plumbing, i.e. shower and taps. We asked to be moved to another room and without hesitation even though we had used the first room was moved to a much nicer room. Impressive.

    « Oh what a Weekend »

I must say from the time we booked into the Hotel it was very good. The receptionist was efficient and polite, room 116 was our room not huge but ok.All the staff that we met were excellent nothing but helpful and pleasant to make your stay a good one. A nice indoor pool, warm ,and lawned area just outside. I have to point out two staff members Mark and Katerina that went out of they way to make sure that you had an enjoyable stay. The food at the Royale was of good quality, breakfast was plentiful and dinner was enjoyable. On Saturday we asked if could have dinner in the lounge bar because we wanted to watch Wales v England (World Cup game),no problem enjoyed the food and the result of the rugby was just as good. I did have some banter with a group of golfers from Yorkshire who were watching the game, I won't tell you who they were supporting. Hotel is 5mins to east cliff zig-zag to make your way to the beach, a pleasant walk to the gardens and town centre . The only problem we had was Between 6-7pm pigeons settling down for the night outside our bedroom window . All in all my wife and I had an enjoyable weekend at Royale and would have no hesitation on staying here again.

« Friendly staff, excellent food. »

I had been in this hotel couple of years ago and I was very happy. This time I could see couple of improvements, especially in the bar (amazing coffee) and in restaurant. Well done. One thing has not changed, during the night you can hear everything, people walking, using showers etc... Room was perfectly clean, but the bathroom a little bit old and the shower was not working very well. The staff were amazing, they were very friendly and respectful not just to us but also to each other what I find very important. The atmospehere was very good. I did not have time to thank the lovely czech lady in the bar who looked after us every evening and on breakfast in the morning and was very professional. Later on our TV did not work so she went upstairs and fixed it. Check in and check out were very quick. The food was just amazing, we ate in the bar every evening and we loved the breakfast buffet. Thank you for everything.
