« Nice Hotel in Great Location »

We were in Bern to meet friends who live there. The Best Western Hotel Bristol was well located, being in the center of the city just off the Bundesplatz, close to the historic sights, shopping and restaurants. The staff was very helpful. The room, while a little dated, was spacious and well furnished. The breakfast buffet was nice, and cards for transportation of the trams and buses were included. Our room was in the front and was a little noisy on a Friday night with much going on in the city. We were happy with our choice.

« Very pleasant stay in the hearth of Bern »

This charming hotel, which sits in the middle of the city, is becoming my home away from home. The staff is nice and very helpful, rooms are clean and well set up, breakfast is good, prices are correct. And, also important to me, everything is within walking distance.

« Very convenient and staffs are welcoming »

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. It is conveniently located close to the station, and the staffs and friendly and helpful. If you choose the right exit from the station, it is almost considered sheltered from station to hotel. It is on a relatively quiet side of town, seemed to have a few office blocks opposite. The rooms are decent and of good size. Breakfast is simple. We choose this for the location, it is good as a base for nearby areas like Brienze and Interlaken, and also for touring Bern itself. Be warned: Sunday is a "dead town" except for shops in the station. Overall, it is a comfortable stay throughout. No big positive surprises but an above average stay (huge plus for location if you have push luggage) is value for money in itself for this hotel in expensive Switzerland.

    « Great location »

This BW hotel is located in the very center of Bern. Just a few minutes walk from the main train station. The hotel itself is to Swiss standards below average. Everything is clean and functioning but it all seems very outdated. The receptionist was very friendly at both check-in and out. The breakfast room was fairly small and the buffet was not really what I expected from a 4 star hotel.

    « Not what I expected! »

After traveling all through Switzerland & having great experiences in every hotel we ended in Zurich. I understand that things are more expensive there, but there shouldn't have been such a discrepancy in cost & attitude. I booked this hotel because of its excellent location near the train station. The hotel felt well-used & dated although the bathroom seemed to have been remodeled. I was disappointed in the small, cramped room & small, uncomfortable bed that was advertised as a double accommodation. I was offered an upgrade at an additional cost of $25 per night even though the hotel was obviously not booked. The receptionist (Beatrice) told me that because I'd booked their most inexpensive room that I had to accept that it would be minimal in size & comfort. Expect to pay extra at check-in if you'd like a more comfortable room! On the positive side, the breakfast lady puts out a nice presentation & she was very pleasant!

« Cannot beat the convenience »

Convenient, courteous and well run. Have stayed many times at this hotel. The location is unbeatable, a few minutes from the train station and main bus/tram stops, and in the middle of shopping district.

    « Great hotel! »

I truly enjoyed my time at this hotel. We arrived at the hotel a bit earlier than planned around noon. They had the room ready let us checkin. The location is amazing. You have everything within walking distance. You can also use the fitness centre located in another hotel next door, which was nice and clean. What I loved the most is the sauna at this hotel. You have to book your spot in advance but it was really relaxing. The breakfast was also great. I wish there was a fridge inside the room however.

    « Location.,, location...location »

Our room was huge, the staff was always nice, helpful, and considerate, but the location is what really makes me rate this hotel excellent. Everything we really wanted to see was close - walking distance. Transportation to other areas was nearby. Shopping was plentiful. People were nice and without exception spoke at least enough English to be friendly and helpful.

« One night stay on business »

I spent only one night at this hotel but it had all that I needed. A quick 5 minutes walk from the main train station and well located for all public transport. My room rate included a card for free public transport for the length of my stay. Breakfast was also included and was fresh and generous. The entire hotel, including my room and bathroom, were impeccably clean. The internet (also included) was quick and worked well. This hotel may not have the modern decor of other hotels but it was totally unnecessary. I would definitely stay here again as I found the hotel had everything I needed for a very reasonable price.

« great location but not a 4 star hotel »

great location, clean and friendly staff but lacks the little extras that make up a 4 star hotel. Very small reception area, no lounge or gathering area, no pool and no restaurant. A very sparse breakfast served in a small room. Room very modern with very low bed that was hard to get out of. Nice size and clean.

    « Convenient location »

Our room faced the stet but was very quiet. We are n the fourth floor and had a nice little terrace. Great location in the old part of town with two minute walk to the bus, train and trolley hub. Note no fridge in room if that would be something you need. Staff friendly and helpful. Good breakfast buffet. For the ladies note that the shower provides combined hair/body wash with no separate shampoo and no conditioner. So far it isn't a problem but if anything is needed it's right nearby

« Great location in city centre of Bern »

Very good location, very close to the city centre and public transportation. Room is basic but clean. Breakfast is good, service also very good. They provide to you a public transportation card that allow you to visit the city free of charge.

    « Great Location...well kept hotel! »

We were at the front and I understand these rooms have air conditioning, which we needed, temp was 25 to 30 in September. Room is good size, nice lighting. Good size bathroom efficient shower. Train station is two blocks away, lots of restaurants and cafes, close to old town. Snacks and inexpensive meals available a few blocks away at Migros. There is a street market open early Saturday morning, beautiful produce and baked goods.

« Dormitory feel to the rooms »

This was a very clean room just two blocks from the train station. Staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast served each morning was quite good. While the room and bathroom were relatively spacious, it did have the feel of a college dormitory though it was quiet despite being rather during my two night stay. One advantage to the location is that it was several blocks from the main drag where the majority of shops and restaurants were that contributed to the general quietness of the place. For the price, this was an overall good hotel.

    « Clean and quiet »

Very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and a perfect location with only 3 minutes by foot from the train main station of Bern. A nice breakfast buffet adds upt to it. You can't ask for more for a one night's stay.

    « Nice place »

Everything is prefect except overpriced laundry room usage fee. It costs $10. Which is acceptable but not reasonable. Usually hotels charge from free to $3. Everything else are good. Nice breakfast, large room.

    « Very central location »

Good quality hotel, very close to city centre & station. Clean, comfortable hotel with very helpful reception staff. I was there for a very hot few days & the lack of air-conditioning in the rooms wasn't great, but at least there was a fan in the room. Bedroom perfectly adequate, decent bathroom with excellent shower. Buffet breakfast excellent & staff very helpful.. Overall a very nice hotel.

« Very good place near Bern city centre »

A very good hotel near the city centre and parliament of Bern. No hotel parking so you need to park 500m away in the underground Casino car park. Rooms are nice and clean with a very good WiFi coverage and speed. Continental breakfast available and you can ask the kitchen for scrambled eggs or pancakes. Near bars and restaurants. All OK.

« Perfect place to stay »

This was my second time staying here, and it was great again, very clean and tidy and nice furniture in the rooms, the added extras like breakfast, wifi and free bus travel tickets are perfect :) Very nice stay for a couple of days

    « Rather a 3 than a 4 star hotel »

I confirm my previous review about the excellent location, less than 5 minutes from the Central Station. This time I had a room on the 4th floor which prevented me of being disturbed by street noises, but the bad acoustic isolation of the rooms remains a major problem. You really hear everything that happens in the adjacent rooms. Rooms are also rather small and start to be somewhat outdated. Complimentary water and free WiFi. Reasonable breakfast buffet.

« A Few Tips about Hotel Bristol »

This Best Western in Old Town is actually very close to the train station. If you can locate Popcorn Sportsbar in the upper level of the Bern station, you can go right up the stairs and find Loeb Department Store. Bristol is right down the street. Look for a sign that says ?Hotel.? The foyer area is not very large. This hotel is comfortable and centrally located. We were given a room on the 5th floor looking at a back building. It was extremely quiet and no birds chirping. Our bed was comfy and the bathroom had a decent size shower instead of the tubs that you have to hurdle over. We had a fan in the room which was just fine. There is actually a dedicated ice machine by the breakfast area on the 2nd floor. Most places you have to ask the connecting bar for ice. Breakfast was ample. Omelets and fried eggs could be cooked to order. There were sections you had to sit as other sections were reserved for tour groups. There was plenty of food. The hotel was ready for the Tour de France coming into town. Each floor had a decorated bicycle. There were also photos of the famous artiest who lived in the area, Paul Klee. I remember the elevator to be quick and responsive. We stayed here for two full days. On Saturday there is an ?open market' right outside and extending into Old Town. The Switzerland Parliament is right down the street. We enjoyed walking the extensive Old Town and along Aare River. We enjoyed sitting by the wall at Einstein's Garden near the Church which overlooks the fast running river. We enjoyed a few meals at Atles Tramdepot next to Bern's famous brown bears. If you found this review helpful in any way, please press ?LIKE? to let me know.

    « Hot and dark »

In spite of the 4 stars, my room had no climate system; only an old, noisy ventilator was available. On the day I left, I had to wake up @ 5:30 a.m. and when turning the light on a blackout occurred in the room. When asking the reception for help, I was told the receptionist was alone and there was no way to get help until 7 a.m. (the blackout was then fixed by 6:30 a.m.). As a result: two quite hot and noisy nights + trying to take a shower and pack my things together in a black box when departing.

« Boring hotel but super lication »

2 nights were more than enough. Very boring hotel with no facilities. Positives are the situation 5 min from the railway station and 2 mon from the nice squares. The single rooms remind more of cells and you really have to decide which way you want to enter! Would I stay there again? Maybe but probably would go back to Allegro.

    « Great central location »

Two nights. Easy to get to - a short walk from the station or trams. Very close to the good restaurants and bars of Bern. The room was generously sized, the shower room new and fully functional (the shower did what it was supposed to do, which is not always the case). The staff, both the room staff and reception, were pleasant and helpful.

    « Great Location »

Nice hotel located in the center of Bern. Lots of shops and restaurants very close by. No parking available at hotel, must walk several minutes to public parking at the casino and it costs roughly 30Sf per day. Nice breakfast included in cost of the room and hot food prepared upon request. No restaurant for dinner in the hotel. Other reviews mentioned only rooms facing the street had air conditioning - I made sure to request this when booking. Room was clean and comfortable; however, contained only one single (twin) bed.

    « nothing special »

This is something between two and three dots. The rooms are on the larger side, which is a plus in Bern. But check-in and check-out were slow, the bathroom is barely functional and breakfast is rather a mass feeding station than something you look dorward to.

« Location and staff: Excellent. Quality of sleep, not so good. »

The only problem I had with this room was the beds: cement slab... Pillows: crunch bricks with a pillowcase. You could not ask for a better location 9around the corner from the train station ) or staff. "AC" non-existent in an AC room. Balcony is Juliet style.. If they get new beds, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

    « Retirees »

Hotel is clean and in a good location and the breakfast area is bright and nice. The room was overpriced for 70's decor and 300.00 price. There is really no lobby, just a check in counter. We would never stay again and checked out 2 days early to continue trip.

    « Overrated hotel »

Do not waste your money thinking this is going to be a nice hotel. The décor in the rooms is bare bones, my husband and I were speechless when we opened the door. They tried hard at breakfast, but the quality was not there.

« Average hotel in great location »

Located 5 minutes from the train in the old town the hotel is in a great location. The rooms are clean and large although a bit tired with a nice balcony overlooking city. There is free high speed broadband and a good breakfast with a cooked option. There is no parking but you get a public transport card included for the trams.

« Great Location, Comfortable, Good price and excellent Staff »

Our second stay at Hotel Bristol Bern to visit our family and it was just as good as our last visit. We stayed in room 504 at the top of the hotel this time and it was perfect for our stay. The room was large enough for a couple, quiet, bed was comfortable, and the shower room was large enough (I'm over 6ft tall) Breakfast was always excellent - good selection of breads, meat, cheeses, fruit for a continental style breakfast plus we also had the scrambled eggs and bacon (made to order and very nice). I booked the room using the Best Western iPad app - very easy and the price was the same or cheaper than what was available on the web search sites. The complimentary local bus/train pass was very appreciated as our family lives just outside of Bern. Made the visit so much better as no thoughts of travel costs. Our first visit coincided with the one day Onion Festival - very well worth the experience if you can fit it into your schedule (28th November in 2016). Hotel Bristol is perfect as you walk out of the Hotel straight into the festival. We went out at 5:30am and back to the hotel at 7:30am for breakfast. Back to our room for a rest then out again into the festival. The next day is very déjà vu - in true Swiss style there is absolutely no signs of what happened the previous day! Looking forward to our next visit

    « Reasonable quality, that's it... »

This hotel was preferred by us since it is centrally located. The standard is average, like most Best Western. It is nice clean(it is Switzerland!), the rooms are quite small, bed is ok. Bathroom/shower small but ok. It seems that the WiFi works; my connection never did, but I heard that it worked for some colleagues. I paid 195 CHF for a room. I used it alone, but still was charged as was it a double. Yes, Swiss prices are high! elsewhere you get better deals

« Perfect location, great value, friendly service »

Just around the corner from the train station (both local and long distance) and almost next door to the Federal Building, the Bristol is THE perfect location in Bern. When we arrived, we were put in a king room on the alley side of the hotel. Our key did not work, so when we went down to exchange it, we asked if we could be put in a street side room. They graciously made the switch, moving us to a higher floor but warning us the beds were two twins pushed together. Room 501 was wonderful! It was spacious, and the beds were very comfortable.....twin-size was not an issue. After dropping off our luggage, we went out to explore the town and quickly realized we were right in the middle of it! The windows were well insulated, so street noise was never an issue. We slept like babies every night and enjoyed people-watching from our window. The price of a room at the Bristol includes a delicious hot breakfast every day and a free tram pass. The pass gives you unlimited rides on local trains and buses as well as the Gurtenbahn funiculaire (see my other review for info on this local attraction). The breakfast buffet includes fresh and dried fruit, peanut butter and honey, nuts and seeds, local meats and cheeses, yogurt, fresh-baked croissants and pastries, oatmeal and dry cereal, and fresh veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions). You can also order fresh hot eggs cooked to your liking and American-style bacon. There is coffee and tea, but they will also make you a delicious cappuccino, latte, or café au lait if you ask. A great way to start any day. Front desk is very friendly, speaks several languages (including English) fluently, and will arrange tours or give suggestions for sightseeing. They even allowed our local friends to join us for coffee and breakfast one morning, and though we offered to pay, they told us they were delighted to have our guests join and refused payment. Can't say enough great things about this hotel! They are simply first-rate, and now that we have friends in Bern, we will be back....FREQUENTLY!!!

    « Great fof 4 star »

Booked in this hotel more than 20 times, where a wonderful value for the price Room as well as a perfectly clean, and that the location is very good and I transpire this hotel strongly for anyone who wants to visit Bern

« Top Hotel at Top Location »

The Hotel was good and the beds are perfect. Stayed at the place for visiting the World Cup ski in Adelboden. The yearly event with the super G was fantastic. Next to that it was a great experience to visit the old city and to cross the river.

« Slanted ceiling at top floor »

Stayed there during business trip, got a single room facing the north side at the top floor with slanted ceiling, apart from toilet, it has desk, mini wardrobe and a fan (no AC though, I heard AC only on the south side (street side) rooms. Room is clean and functional. Breakfast was OK for Swiss standard. There is also self-service laundrymat room where you book a time and pick up coin at the reception. Also got welcome drink at the nearby Best Western Bären hotel bar (on same street just another building besides it). The localtion is very nice, 5 min by foot to Bern Hbf, The hotel is just on the back side of the main shopping street Spitalgasse/Marktgasse, 2 min walk to Bundesplatz/Bundeshaus and the restaurant square Bärenplatz.

    « Great location »

Hotel in an excellent location near the parliament building and main streets. Great selection of restaurants and wonderful department stores all nearby. Short walk from the train station. An excellent base for visiting this lovely city. The Kunstmuseum, within easy walking distance, is also well worth a visit. I can't be enthusiastic about the breakfast however - tinned fruit and yogurt, very small amounts of fresh fruit - good pineapple but tired looking grapes - could do better. Croissants were good. Some savouries - tomatoes ham cheese boiled eggs etc. Room was simple but clean and bed very comfortable. All in all a lovely stay in a great location.

« Excellent Hotel in perfect Location! »

My Wife and I stayed in this Hotel for two Nights and we enjoyed it very much. On Arrival you get a Voucher for a free Drink and a complimentary Ticket to use Public Transport whilst staying in the Hotel. The Frontoffice Staff were very friendly and helpful, they try to help you in any way they can. We had a Room on the 4th Floor, with a large comfortable Bed, a big Wardrobe with a Safe build in, a Workdesk with enough Powerpoints to plug in your Computer and charge your Cameras or Electronic Gadgets. There was also Aircondition, a build in Fridge and a good sized TV with lots of Channels to watch. The Bathroom was nice, big and very clean and the Housekeeping was perfect! Breakfast was a Buffet style setup up with plenty of choice and if you like some fried Eggs just ask and they make it for you. The Breakfast Staff were courteous and efficient. The Train station is just around the Corner and so are the Shops and Restaurants. Hotel Bristol is the best choice for a few Days in Bern and discover all the Attractions in and around Bern.

« Very good thanks to the amazing service »

the hotel is placed ideally; it's a simple place maybe not practical with a car and the team is really great, nice and helpful. The rooms have a good size but the noise proof of the windows is not the best and the decoration is pretty simple. It's the 4th time we're staying there and we will go back.

« Loved the downtown location »

Very clean, very polite staff, apples all day long, free bikes to use, two blocks from the Bahnhof, could walk every where. The BarenPlatz with the market is right around the corner, with lots of music and crafts.

« Centre of most things in Bern »

Handy for all public transport and many sights in the city. Plenty of restaurants around hotel: many cuisines on offer: remember that food in Bern is expensive. The Bristol is a good value for money business style hotel.

    « Constant quality »

Visiting this hotel regularly it must say that the quality stays at the same high standard. Good breakfast, service with a smile! You really feel welcome. Free welcome drink in the bar and a free apple at reception.

« Highly Recommended with Great Location »

We stayed here 4 nights at the beginning of October. It was the accommodation provided through a Collette coach tour of Switzerland and Austria. Great place to stay, the entire hotel was very clean throughout and the front office staff were very helpful and accommodating (even changing some larger Swiss franc bills into smaller ones). It is in a great location, we arrived in Bern on a train from Paris and the attendant at the tourist info booth in the station easily described where the hotel was and we walked there in 5 minutes (we travel light ? if you don't maybe a cab would be better). Being right in the Old Town section within a very short walking distance just around the corner is a large pedestrian square of sorts with restaurants, cafes, a market etc., and Bern's famed colonnades. Trams are also on the next street over. The lobby is quite small and so there's not that big bang first impression but that's quickly forgiven. Our room was pretty well immaculate and of good size with enough space to maneuver around. Lots of drawers, storage space and hangers for clothes and to keep luggage out of the way. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows provided good support without being too firm. Our room was on the 5th floor, faced the street and the windows could be opened for some fresh air. This is a bit of a minus, too, in that being in such a great location there are some bars and restaurants around that could get noisy (and one morning, fairly early, some work started outside waking us prematurely). The room had a nice flat screen TV with enough English programming to keep in touch with the world. Bathroom was bright, clean and of good size with enough space for toiletries. The hotel has a terrific buffet breakfast with lots of variety in an eating area that was large enough to handle its many guests. This is a highly recommended hotel!

« Location, location, location -- this hotel has it!!! »

I recently stayed here four nights on a group tour. The room was clean and comfortable and the location was fantastic. It was within a short walk from shopping, restaurants, and attractions. Several of us caught the tram, which was just down the street from the hotel, to go sightseeing. The staff was extremely friendly and helped with getting discount tram tickets. If you're not an early riser, you might not want a street side room because the market is very near the hotel and they start setting up very early. Of course, the hotel doesn't have control over the street noise.

« Nice Hotel in Excellent Location »

We stayed at this Hotel for 2 nights and our room was very light with large windows and spacious. Within walking distance to the train station in the "Old Town" in amongst the shopping precinct, restaurants and markets. You can basically walk everywhere but the Hotel also provides you with a complimentary tram/bus ticket which we did not need to use. Would definately recommend this Hotel.

    « Design and efficiency »

The Bristol is an excellent example of sensible hotel design. The rooms are not large but arranged for convenience. The bathrooms are small but cleverly designed to make use of every bit of space. The downstairs lobby is small but there is a larger lounge on the second floor. A laundry room next-door contains coin-operated washer and dryer. The breakfast buffet is varied and the service attentive. Everyone we encountered at the desk was friendly and helpful. The location is hard to beat. Only possible problem for independent travelers is its popularity with tour groups but the staff try to serve groups in separate areas. An excellent choice for a stay in Bern.

    « A Great Location »

Recently stayed at this hotel in Bern as part of a tour. It is right in the center of the city and just a short walk from just about everything. This hotel is not a full service facility, but it is exceptionally clean and extremely efficient. The rooms are quite comfortable and the staff are helpful and friendly.

    « Excellent location »

Stayed here for four nights on a tour. This hotel is very clean, comfortable and safe in an excellent location near arcades and trams. My room was exactly what I expected in a European room. The personnel were very helpful with their suggestions, and there is a terrific market (Globus)a few steps away. Trust me, if you've never been in a Swiss grocery store, you will find this place hugely entertaining. I had read other reviews prior to my trip and requested an air conditioned room street side. I slept comfortably without interruption from street noise at night. One caveat though - there was daily street work outside the hotel while I was there earlier this month. I don't think the hotel has any control over these street projects, so make sure you have a good set of ear plugs or noise canceling headphones as a backup plan. This was only an issue one afternoon out of my 4-day stay. If you are looking for a well located, clean, comfortable hotel in Bern this hotel is an excellent option to consider.

« Great location, Very Clean, good service »

Located right in the center of the action. Close to numerous restaurants, casino and old town. Exceptional service from the front desk crew, welcome drink provided, free wifi which worked quite well and room was quiet. Comforter was a little small for us, but overall bed was good. Very wide hallways and open space. Good breakfast as well was included. Would def recommend

    « Average Hotel »

The hotel is in the middle of Bern, also it is right next to the main train station. The rooms you get are hit or miss. You can get a street view with a balcony, without a balcony, or just looking at the back of another building. Some rooms have ac, others do not. Some rooms have only a shower, some have a combination shower and tub. The gym is tiny, if more that 3-4 people are there it's not worth trying to enter. The breakfast is below average. Not many options to pick from, you can order eggs, bacon and/or ham. The walls are extremely thin. There isn't a refrigerator in the rooms. I guess this is what you get if you stay at a Best Western.

« Well located, clean and efficient gotel »

This is a very good hotel. Located 5 minutes from the train station and right by old town Bern. We arrived early and our room was not yet ready. The front desk personnel were very helpful, finding us a place to change and storing our bags. When we returned, the bags had been delivered to our room, which was clean and good sized, compared to other Swiss hotels. We had a room on the front of the hotel and while we heard a little noise around midnight, the room was fairly quiet and had air conditioning. Shower was good sized. While this hotel lacks some old world charm, it is a nice change of pace. The hotel also has bikes for guest use, a nice touch.
