    « Feels like home »

For over the last 2 years I've spent 2 to 3 days per week in this hotel. Everything was excellent: the receptionist is professional and welcoming, the rooms are clean and tidy, you've got a large breakfast choice and the staff is at your service. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have home like-good night-sleep.

    « Just fine »

Location in Bayonne among a few shops and cafes. Not a particularly convenient with areas for strolling and shopping but the hotel was clean and very comfortable. It is basically a comfortable city hotel.

    « Central hotel »

Lovely hotel in Grand Bayonne. The hotel is within walking distance of the major sites in town, many restaurants, and the train station. The rooms are pretty large, and there is a nice buffet breakfast available. There is a cage elevator, that is actually pretty large by European standards. Great place to stay, would not hesitate to stay here again.

    « 2 night stopover »

We stayed here in 2002 and always wanted to return. Well, we are not disappointed. As good if not better now. Lovely helpful reception staff. Comfortable, clean room. Good private facilities. Free WiFi. Only downside parking in carpark nearby at €16 per day. Good buffet breakfast. Excellent location. Lots of bars/restaurants within walking distance. Highly recommended.

    « Central hotel »

This hotel is lying in the center of beautiful Bayonne, and is within walking distance of the railway station. The room I got was large, with a large bathroom and a bed which was broader than it was long. The bed could easily have fitted 3 persons. I also appreciated the tea-cooker and the minibar. Breakfast was very good, with freshly pressed orange juice, fruits, yoghurt and most of what you need for breakfast - even pancakes. The staff was helpful and gave good advise for places to eat.

    « Wonderful »

Great decent-sized rooms by European standards, and has an elevator. Large bathroom with a bathtub. Nice and clean rooms and hotel, with pleasant staff who were helpful and obliging. Decent spread of breakfast with the usuals; cheese, cold cuts, sausages, croissants etc.

    « Overpriced »

This hotel is in the centre of Bayonne and therefore convenient. However, the breakfast is stupidly overpriced. The rooms were tried and the bar was closed. The hotel was virtually empty which perhaps say it all.

« Well located and comfortable »

Charming hotel, very well located and the staff were friendly, bilingual and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean and quiet. Breakfast and coffee available. Close to the old city, attractions, tourist office, boys and train services and shopping.

    « Laneiii »

Great room and bath. Both extremely large by French standards.Hostesses extremely friendly and helpful. Wonderful two night stay. Highly recommended and in an excellent location. The staff was very friendly and helpful, as arrangements were made for a very early taxi to deliver us to the train station before dawn. The night clerk had an early breakfast for us, even though we were leaving an hour before breakfast was to be ready.

« Let down by new room design. »

This hotel gives an immediate good impression, having a central location on a leafy boulevard, smart reception staff and an elegant staircase with short flights at an easy angle. There is also a surprisingly fast open-cage lift. The breakfast buffet, although expensive, has several less usual items. There is a huge automatic orange juicer and two of the trendy type coffee machines. These can provide real boiling water for tea, instead of the usual lukewarm dispenser flask.Despite being so far south, there are hot sausages, scrambled egg and bacon. The standard items are good in quality and variety. The room would be better with fewer tables. The newly furnished room I occupied was generally inferior in function to two hotels I recently visited at almost half the price. The overall layout of the rather long and narrow room wasted space in some parts and cramped others. There were narrow gaps at the bedsides owing to the bed being on the wrong wall.At one side was a sharp cornered wall light to prod my shoulder in the dark. The foot of the bed was overshadowed by a huge article of furniture in the exact centre of the room, acting as an altar for a giant TV. The other side had a stepped type dressing table, with no drawers or subsiduary shelf. The tiny bedside shelves appeared to have drawers ,but did not.The room lacked storage for small items ,and was inadequate to handle paperwork. There was nowhere to stow or unpack luggage apart from a folding stand. The wardrobe was in a dark corner behind the entrance door, and contained a fridge with NO ventilation, causing excessive temperatures, sufficient to harm food or exposed film. The small bathroom was slightly larger than that at the chain hotel I recently visited, but ,unlike the place at half the price, this bathroom had no bath, and the basin was very small and inaccessible.A truly lethal mains socket was within less than a hand span of the tap nozzle ! The heated towel rail( only advance over the chain hotel) was hot water heated only, and therefore non functional in summer.. Although advertised as having air conditioning, the unit in my room would only give the "Chaud" function. The two cheap hotels last week(cooler weather) had functional units. The room, however, did have excellent modern roller sun blinds and good opening windows.

« Careful if you need car parking... »

This hotel is right in the city centre and if you are lucky, you might be able to park temporarily in the yellow hatched box outside the hotel, but only to check in and drop your luggage. You will have to pay €16 for the privilege of using their car-park which is a couple of blocks away. However, for your €16 you get the experience of negotiating the spiral that leads to the top floor where can use one of their marked bays. This is all very well if you have a small car. If you have a large or valuable car, you would do well not to attempt to use this car park. Worse, on the way down, you badge the door from the second floor and wait for the green light. As you nurse your pride and joy down, you will find the gate will have already closed again. This then entails trying to open your door, running back up to the control post, re-badging and running back down to your car to get out. All this entertainment AND a parking space all for a mere €16 !!!!! The rooms are fairly clean, but avoid room 321 as you will be woken by the lift mechanism as it creaks and groans it's way up and down. The walls need some soundproofing as were awoken by the next bedroom's television at 06h00. Phoned reception, but they said they couldn't hear it. Grrr. (3rd Floor)

« Very clean and comfortable »

This hotel is very clean, functional, and comfortable with a great location. Staff was helpful and stay was very nice. Very close to stores. Air conditioning worked well, unusual in this area for this time of year.

    « A very pleasant experience »

Stayed here for two nights at the beginning of a tour. It's a perfectly adequate hotel with helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Breakfast was delicious. The location was convenient to most of the places we wanted to go. We had a minor problem with the room that was taken care of immediately and without any difficulty. We would definitely stay here again.

    « Four stars? Seriously? »

A double bed for one couple, two bath towels the first night and one bath towel the second. A single bottle of water (50 cl) for the entire stay. Card keys that lasted less than 24 hours before we needed new ones. Only one switch for all the lighting except bed lamps. Two chairs that needed to be moved for access to closet, to bed, to door. Breakfast is good. No porterage from lobby to room. Convenient location. Stay away from room 407.

« Grand hotel in historic centre »

We had a Nice spacious room with an excellent bathroom and Windows with sight on the main shopping street. We were lucky by parking our car in the street oppositie the hotel what was Free from 18.00 till 09.00 in the morning. Lot of small restaurants in the neighboorhood in the historic centre. Nice price rating.

« Very good location. Poor sound proofing walls. »

Location: With car, the hotel can be accessed via Av. du 11 Novembre 1918 and Rue Thiers. Centrally located. Car park cost EUR 16 per day at Rue Jules Labat. Hotel: Fast, very friendly check in. Small, old, non-functional lift. Bright room. Uncomfortable beds and pillows. Poor sound proofing walls. Good A/C. Very good shower. Free Wi-Fi.

    « Overnight »

One night stay on trip home. We received a free upgrade on one of our three rooms so the parents would have a double bed. Beds are very comfortable. Could become our regular sleepover On our way to southern Spain . Reception personel was very helpfull.

« Perfect Home Base for your Basque Adventure »

Situated on the edge of the pedestrian area of Grand Bayonne and near the Cathedral, Le Grand Hotel is my favorite place to stay. Great (and I mean great!) restaurants nearby (don't miss Ttapia or Chaho!) the only Apple store within 100 km (saved my bacon) and an always pleasant and helpful staff. I love the quaint charm and the lovely views out the windows. Even the interior rooms are sunny and lovely. It's true that parking is an adventure - embrace it! I particularly like the petit dejeuner - enjoy the Brebis, Jambon Bayonne and the lovely Gateau Basque!

« Charm of the past »

This hotel has some kind of old-fashioned charm. It is located near the historic part of Bayonne which makes it a good choice to visit the town. They can arrange parking at the cost of 18 euros per day but there is usually space available in the street (free overnight). We arrived early in mid-morning and had to keep our luggage in the locker room. When back in the evening they had taken care to put our luggage in the room. The lift (it should be part of the hotel history) was not working during our stay and they offered to use the service lift though we preferred to use the stairs. Our room was not too spacious but comfortable enough, good bed, minibar, free WiFi, TV with international channels. Nothing to complain about. Bathroom was good with bath and rain shower but for the scarce toiletries. Service was excellent, warm and friendly, helpful with recommendations on places to visit, restaurants and activities.

    « Very nice place »

Loved the style of the hotel (atmosphere reminiscent of the old days), wonderful spacious modern bathroom, well equipped room and above all an excellent location for a walk around the old city a d going out for the evening.

    « Disappointed »

Stayed 5nights here,we might have gotten the ugly room of the building as looked nothing like the photos!was small, almost creepy ,very uncomfortable bed(2small,hard beds together, would separate every time you move.),stained carpet flooring.every day ,we had to go to the desk to ask for toilet papersaundries we're not replaced, our door cards were non functioning every time we came back for3 days.would not work, staff would get frustrated with us !..complimentary small bottle of water...instructed to get replacement at the desk but when asked for one ,the girl was very rude told us to buy the mineral water from minibar!tv non functioning x 2days,nobody came,,(husband got it going)! To top it off ...we were robbed of a small case containing jewelry!on our last day..great location, good breakfast but pricey!would not return!

« First stop on our return to UK »

Booked the hotel on line at a reasonable price. Friendly reception and a nice room on the fourth floor. The room is very nice with a very comfortable king size bed. Nice bathroom but only a shower. Parking can be a problem but we luckily got a place right outside the hotel. That won't happen often! We will not have breakfast as 32€ for two is a bit of a joke. Otherwise good value nice hotel. It does say that there is tea/coffee making facilities but I didn't find them!

« Centrally located in Bayonne. »

We stayed one night in this hotel on our way from Bordeaux to Bilbao. It was very modern, yet with a quaint old fashioned elevator. The room was very well furnished with a comfortable bed TV and a mini bar. Th shower was brilliant and the whole area was extremely clean. One oddity was the step just inside the bedroom door to the right which you could trip on in the dark.Th car park however is a couple of streets away and not that easy to find. It is located via a shuttered door which you need a card to get in and out of. The hotel has parking spaces on the 5th floor, this requires careful driving up a winding roadway. Having parked yu car you then have to find the way out, this involves a lift which deposits you in a dark area trying to find the door out. Good luck with that. Any how, look out for the bright yellow Citroen DS on floor 5.

« Nice hotel, practical & perfectly located »

We stayed at the Best Western le Grand Hotel for 4 nights. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The checks in & out were easy and straight forward. Our room was clean and functional. The bed was comfortable, the extra pillows we required were on the bed upon our arrival. The bathroom was on the small size but the showers were great. Le Grand Hotel is perfectly located to visit Bayonne (petit & grand) and to get the bus to Biarritz (the bus stop is 2 mins walk from the hotel). It is a short journey by bus to Biarritz great beaches. The breakfast buffet was great the first morning, which was a weekday - there was a business group staying at the hotel. On the other hand, at the weekend the breakfast buffet offered less choices, but still a great breakfast value. The funky coffee machine had gone, only filter coffee was available. On the downside, the hotel does not provide room service as it does not have a restaurant, also the tea and coffee available in our room were not replenished after the first day we used them - and there was only one tea bag to start with.

    « A okay hotell »

The best western in Bayonne is a okay hotel that has service minded employees, the rooms are clean and not too pricey. Even if the building in general looks a bit worn out is the rooms of excellent quality. No complaints, even if the breakfast could use a bit of an upgrade.

    « Lovely Stay »

We stayed for 2 nights. The first night we arrived after 1am due to our delayed ferry. There was someone there to greet us and had our room key ready. we used the private parking a few streets away. A bit steep at 15 Euros per night but secure and happy to pay. The staff were friendly. The hotel was very clean and suited the basque region. WiFi was good. we did not pay for breakfast as it was 16 Euros each per day but there are lots of cafes around for croissants and tea. The location was very good and I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

    « Nice stop-over hotel »

We used this great little French hotel on a road trip, for which it was perfect. The rooms are clean but not modern and the parking is remote and somewhat awkward if your car is wide or low but that's a small price to pay for a hotel that is right in the town centre.

« Good location, tiny rooms »

We stayed at this hotel one night in August. We were initially not planning on staying in Bayonne but we didn't regret it as the city is lovely, full of places to visit, streets to stroll around. Best western is typically the chain that in my mind represent(ed) large comfy rooms all over the world. That was standard I expected. Well we got a 8sqm room where we could barely move. Good location, clean, okay sleep, but clearly not the type of room where you want to hang out. Good enough for a hop I guess.

« Welcoming, comfortable and super clean »

We booked this hotel, looking for a reasonably-priced place to stay at the last minute and it was excellent! From the first welcome to the "au revoirs" the staff were helpful and thoughtful. They were more than happy to provide us a place to stow our bikes overnight and keep our luggage the next day, as we were leaving on the night train, The room was luxurious, bathroom superb (gorgeous shower!) and bed very comfortable. Add this to the location in the heart of Bayonne and it made for a wonderful stay. Thoroughly recommended.

« Very nice place with perfect service »

Old (nineteenth century?) hotel perfectly refurbished in the center of the city. Wonderful old style lift. Large room with new bed and style furniture. Bathroom large, modern and comfortable. Breakfast room in glass roof courtyard with stone walls. Breakfast buffet with basque tasty specialities

    « A nice hotel in a good location »

We were able to park outside so we could go in and find the location of the parking. It was fairly close and once we had the directions we went off to park the car. This was a nice hotel close to the river and restaurants etc. Nice rooms, good wifi and friendly staff. We enjoyed our first visit to Bayonne.

    « City centre location »

Ideal place to stay in the centre of Bayonne, convenient for the shops and restaurants. Comfortable rooms and helpful staff. Interesting retro-style traditional lift. If travelling by car, parking could be a problem.

« Good for short stay... »

I found this hotel with almost no notice, it is in an ideal location---in between the bus and train stations. The bathroom was plenty spacious and nice overall. Queen sized bed was comfortable as well. The Cathedral is a 3 minute walk as well as plenty of shopping and restaurants and bars. I would stay here again.
