    « Gettin' Better! »

On this, my second trip to Awka, for business reasons I did not stay at the Best Western. However, our group of 6 had lunch there on a regular basis. In a word, the food was delicious. A problem I had previously at this hotel when I could not use a credit card seems to be unresolved. As I suggested in a previous review, bring cash if you plan to stay at this hotel. Having said that, compared to the hotel we stayed at during this latest visit to Awka, especially with regard to service in the restaurant there, the Best Western is vastly superior.

    « A place to be. »

It's a cool place, the location is cool and secured, uninterrupted power supply, nice swimming pool for only guest, nice meal and affordable, a nice bar, serene environment, hotel workers are friendly. It's indeed a nice place to spend time anytime business or leisure brings u to Awka in anambra state. It's located not far from the government house.

« Reportedly this is the best Awka has to offer...... »

Let's begin with the good. This hotel is located close to the state government office complex, a really big plus as getting to meetings there does not involve time consuming navigation through the sometimes really heavy Awka traffic. Rooms and lobby area are clean. There is a decent menu for all meals in the restaurant. The staff are very friendly. Receptionists Fortune and Blossom are lovely. The not so good. The gymnasium is clean but there is not a very good selection of equipment and one of the treadmills is "jerky". There are steps up to the hotel lobby. There are steps from the lobby area to the restaurant area. There are steps up to the room levels. There are steps at various locations on the way to the rooms. There are a lot of steps. Not exactly AWDA compliant. The really not so good. Upon trying to pay the bill I was informed that credit card payments are not possible as they only accept payment in cash. Or funds drawn on a local bank. I never travel with any large amounts of cash. There was no attempt to resolve this problem beyond the manager directing me to a bank manager a long cab drive away who was supposed to offer a payment solution as the hotel is their customer. This turned out to be an exercise in futility that wasted a good hour of the time we had before the long car ride to the airport. Which reminds me, allow two hours for the trip to the airport in Enugu. Fortunately one of our party had sufficient cash on hand. Best advice I can offer. Bring wads of cash with you to this hotel. Try not to let anyone know you have wads of cash on you. Until it is time to pay the bill. This hotel has potential and I'm sure they will figure out how to handle foreign visitors. I look forward to returning to see how they are improving.
