« easy acsess to centre, secure parking »

Would recommend, nice and comfortable hotel, very secure (UNDER THE HOTEL) and reasonably priced parking max 15 euros per 24 hours, good shopping( market, gyros, late night shop) easy access to town, takes less than 20mins to central. Lovely, love to return some day.

    5
    « Clean and nice! »

Tram away from center. 12.50 for 2 days pass. Clean hotel and has everything you need. Staff let us leave luggage behind the reception as we arrived 3 hours before check in. Vending machines in reception. Would go back!

    « Enjoyable stay »

We stayed for 2 nights,In the executive twin room,Which is a larger room,Taxi to Amsterdam centre is €25,The tram is 2 min walk & costs €2.90 & takes 20 minutes.I found the staff attentive. Local area there is shops & restaurants. I would stay again,But would also consider staying closer to the centre. I was happy with the price we paid €155 for 2 nights room only,In the centre for similar hotel would be at least extra €100.

« Perfect for a couple of nights stay »

Lovely and clean big rooms. Plenty of breakfast choice. Great value for money. Staff were very helpful when it came to asking for directions etc. Easy to get to and from airport or city centre, around 15mins on tram to centre and 30mins on bus to airport. Public transport is easy to use and very frequent. Handy supermarket next door to hotel and over the road. Also markets and plenty of food places. Will be returning :)

« BEST WESTERN Blue Square Hotel Nov'16 »

The staff (boy) at the reception on the 1st night was very bored and not so friendly with us as customers when we asked for transport directions to the city center. The place itself was clean and cozy with heavy classic style furniture. So for this I would give all 5s. But the service of that person 1. The women staff on the contrary were very helpful.

    3
    « Far from central »

This is located very far from the central. But have trams and buses to reach central takes about 40 mins Heater wasn't working in our room, even after complaining twice nothing happened. They offered extra blankets as remedy. Next day provided a portable heater Good large rooms, with lake view, No water bottles provided

    2
« Choose a better hotel closer to Amsterdam »

The area is not giving a safe feeling, please chose a hotel closer to Amsterdam or alternatively stay at Schipol airport and go by train into Amsterdam. The personal that meet us in the reception had to have a bad day because they weren't polite, but neither rude. The only positive thing about this hotel is the breakfast which is indeed good. The rooms are old style and dirty, the bed and bed sheets are clean and comfortable, but the floor carpets are very dirty with stains and also the bathroom felt like it would need a renovation, the whole hotel would need it, but due to the area it can be that it won't help. If I had to go again, I wouldn't stay at this hotel a second time here.

    « Lovely hotel »

« Excellent Hotel with Easy Access to the City Centre... !!! »

This hotel is a great option if you want to look for an affordable alternative slightly away from the city. The property is in the Slotermeerlan area which is a 15-minute tram ride away from the city central. The hotel is comfortable and has been fitted up to meet the Best Western standards. The staff are very helpful and speak good English (which is pretty usual for Amsterdam, I guess !!). There are lots of middle-eastern and Mediterranean restaurants and the tram stop is just a 2-minute walk. Trams are available once every 6-10 minutes to the city center and others to different parts of the city within walking distance also. They also provide a good continental breakfast with lots of options.....

    « Perfect for a weekend »

Great little place for a weekend visit. Great time in Amsterdam. Easy to get around on tram/buses. Rooms clean and tidy, helpful receptionist with directions etc. Shame the bar wasn't open in the hotel

    3
« Easy Access to and from Dam Square »

The Blue Square Hotel was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. It's about a five minute walk to the tram which takes you directly into the heart of Amsterdam. Secure parking is underground with access behind the hotel. It was recommended by hotel staff. Cost was 20 Euro for the night in addition to the room charge.

    « 1 week stay by 2 Aussie lads »

Stayed at the blue square best western for 8 nights while in Amsterdam. property was kept in a very good clean condition and Staff were very helpful. The property is about 30 mins public transport from the city centre so a fair hike to tourist attractions and nightlife.

« Wonderful weekend in Best Western Blue Square Hotel »

I liked every thing about this hotel Food; great!!! Room clean and cosy People who work there nice and helpful Location good Just internet could be better, work not always and very slow I recommend, great hotel!!!!

    3
    « Average »

The internet not walked even very difficult, very weak signal. After the first cleanup in the room were not bath towels changed. I never gave 4 stars for this hotel!! First time we stayed in a hotel "4 stars" without the right coffee breakfast included!

    3
« Cheap and chearful but out of the way »

Hotel was relatively cheap but further from the city centre than we thought. There is a handy tram that brings you in though. The hotel restaurant was okay but not great. It is a residental area but there are a few restaurants around, none that we liked though. There are 3 supermarkets and a daily outdoor market beside the hotel. The hotel bar was closed throughout our visit.

    4
    « Interesting »

Good option if you want to visit the city but are on a "budget". I stayed three nights , furniture is tired but not falling apart. The bed was comfy and the rooms are clean. Small bathroom but fully functional and modern. You can take public transportation or Uber to downtown. I used the latter and paid 14 € in average. The breakfast buffet is a good deal if you book in advance to pay less, otherwise it doesn't worth 12.50 €.

    4
« A very good and comforting hotel. »

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Big enough and very lighted room. The bed was very comfort and big. Very nice and big bathroom View to a little lake near the hotel which gave a great feeling especially in the morning. Near the hotel transportation to several points in the center of Amsterdam (Dam Square, Central station etc...) within about 20 minutes. Direct bus from Schipol Airport. The breakfast is reach and good. The staff was very courteous and helpful. I enjoyed my stay

    3
« Adequate but 'well worn' »

This hotel is located far from the main tourist attractions downtown, which is (and should be) reflected in its price. My room is comfortable and completely adequate, but hardly nice. When it was new, the furnishings probably made it seem nicer, but now almost everything in this room has very visible chips, scratches, worn spots, or stains. Thankfully the linens seem clean, the mattress is pretty comfortable, and the heat works well, so it's fine for a brief stay.

    « Great Stay! »

The Hotel was very clean and very helpful. I liked everything in my stay and the hotel was very informative. The location was good. 25 mins from the center and surrounded with 3 different stops for tram and bus. Very easy transportation. Definitely recommend it.

    4
« You get what you pay »

Average hotel for an average price, friendly staff, small bathroom but with a big good shower, clean room, airport taxi service (40€), last 2 days the tv stopped working, no other problems, 2 minutes to tram station.

    4
« No thrills but good hotel »

I stayed for 2 nights and the hotel ticked most of the boxes I needed. I only had a single room but the bed was comfy, the shower was big and water hot. The breakfast was good too with plenty of choice but my only quibble was no bar! I fancied a beer so had to across the road. The location is 200 yards from a tram and bus stop which are very easy to get to Dam square and the museums. I didn't really use the other restaurants but there are a few nearby along with a supermarket. One bit of advice that I didn't get was to buy the tram tickets by time. Buy them on the tram and the least is one hour (about €2.90) or you can get day/weekly passes. I used a couple of one hour passes to get to Dam square and back. Enjoy Amsterdam it's a magnificent city

    5
    « Convenient and Enjoyable »

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel on two different trips to Amsterdam. They have free internet access in the lobby. The hotel was very clean and friendly--also quiet! They did serve breakfast and dinner (maybe even lunch--not sure) in their restaurant, but these were not gratis. We were a very short walk away from the trams/buses, etc., a few good restaurants, an ALDI store, plus there was a flea market practically next door. We very much enjoyed this hotel--away from the hustle and bustle.

    4
« nice hotel-a lot of tram travel »

really nice hotel, with pleasant staff n a nice restaurant. room was clean n spacious. there are 2 supermarkets within easy reach. the hotel is really easy to find, with a tram stop 50meters down the road, but here is where the pro's stop n the con's come- it's jus a bit tooo far out of the city, 25/35 mins on a rammed tram after having a busy bustling day around amsterdam central can b toooo much- when all u wanna do is rest your weary feet!! however the tram into the city is fairly empty- because the hotel is very near the end of the line.

    4
« Family trip to Holland »

The rooms were of good quality. my children were in budget room but on arrival they weer up graded to a better room . we had a double, we did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on food. Staff were friendly and helpful and access to public transport to get to the center of town was very easy

    4
« Not bad, but expensive »

Stayed 4 nights in this hotel in October. I travelled alone, but payed for the whole double room, as they didn't have single or DUS rooms. The location of the hotel is not the best, but transport communication is good - around 40 minutes by bus 69 from/to the airport, around 30 minutes to the Central Station, around 30 minutes to the city center. And there are also night buses, so you can reach the hotel even if you go clubbing, etc. in the hotel itself - no lobby bar, only a restaurant which is not always open. In the room - the furniture and the walls looked old and "tired", but it was clean. No fridge in the room, the windows are closed and you can't open them! The bad is comfortable, the bathroom is good. The wifi worked very very bad.. in whole, I would recommend the place if it didn't cost 425 euro for 4 nights.

    4
    « 4 night stay »

Booked hotel in advance. Reception positive and helpful. Clean and tidy hotel. Twenty five minutes to town centre on tram. Transport network around hotel good. Restaurants nearby adequate but not good. A good Base at reasonable prices. Breakfast of decent standard.

    « A lovely second visit! »

This is our second visit to Amsterdam (family of 5, me, hubby and 3 sons - 22, 20 and 11). This place is perfect for all our needs and is really close to the bus and tram service, making it amazingly easy to get to the centre and other attractions. The rooms are comfortable and warm, and everything is clean and hygienic. The beds are coming to sleep in and rest on. The staff as always, are great and we were so impressed that they remembered us from our first vista's - hopefully for the right reasons! After a slight mix up with the room bookings on our arrival, everything was sorted out quickly. Breakfast, again, was great with a large selection to choose from. It was extremely busy, but the staff was so helpful and cleared away immediately so we were never left wondering where to sit. The Blue Square issue perfect for what we need during our stay in Amsterdam and we would definitely come back again!

    « Amsterdam Stay »

Everything was very good except the heating. Though air conditioning unit was present but it wasn't useful. Reported to reception in the morning and the apologised, since we were only staying for one night we didn't bother. Everything else in the room was four stars standard.

  • 2
« A miracle how the hotel has got the 4 stars for »

If you need a stay just a night for sleep and less more, it is ok to choose this hotel. The best times are clearly over... Beds were comfortable and linnen fine, clean and good for sleeping, but the rest of the interieur were shabby but not chick. Dirt at the wall, dirt on the roofing, dust on the cups in the cupboard. Very small room indeed, so a rest of space was made for hotel room, if it works or not. So, when you open the door of the bathroombox, you nearly fall into the toilette, how nice.

    3
    « Amsterdam marathon weekend »

Friendly, helpful and clean. Quiet. Close to airport bus and connections into all activities via tram, bus and metro. Room was all you'd need. Breakfast was self service and had a really good selection of all food for a runner! Only difficulty, which is always a problem, is that breakfast on the day of the marathon was not soon enough to take part and get to the start of the run on time.

    4
« I like the room but the service point or the reception not very good »

Im happy I like the room and like the hotel decoration in architect and the room and the shower room and toillet I like it also and is near the city not to much but is little more then another hotel but the best things I want more be flexible the reception

    « Amsterdam vacation »

Our stay at BEST WESTERN Blue Square Hotel was a dream. First, the hotel is centrally located & is accessible to many shopping centers & flea markets, which is important to my wife. The staff was very helpful in informing us about all the main tourist attractions, i.e. Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Anne Frank House, Canal Cruise etc. as well as advising us about the public transportation system. They also arranged our side trip to Brussels & Antwerp. Your breakfast service is great. You may expect a return visit soon.

    3
« Not worth the monies »

I was disappointed as we paid 635 euros for 5 days. I consider this excessive for the location and the service and the lack of breakfast included. They gave us a room on the first floor facing a backyard full of debris. They were renovating the floor and we had the corridor obstructed by people and material. The floor of our room had humidity stains. The bathroom was the best part as it had clearly been renovated a few days before. We had to pay the entire stay at arrival which I found odd for an hotel of this chain. The neighborhood is not the best (not clean), but at least the bus, metro and tram stops are withing walking distance. At 90 Euros per night I would recommend it, not at 120+

    5
    « Very pleasurable stay »

Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed our long weekend here, staff are very helpful and a very clean hotel, we will be returning soon !!! The location isn't great, but a good nightlife, coffeeshop very close by, so if your in need then get some weed :-)

    4
    « Lovely break »

Stayed here for 2 days with my boyfriend. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were good and bed very comfortable. Check out was midday but staff kept luggage in a locked room. Numerous restaurants and other amenities is walking distance.

« Blue square hotel review Amsterdam »

Overall good experience. Staff are always courteous regarding any assistance from tour guide to directing to a place of our interest with maps.Hotel is located in a place surrounded by various trams and bus stops nearby. Also a flea market is nearby. Along with that lot of street food joints are available. There is a big mall nearby where you can find all sorts of essential items instantly

    5
« Welcome Smart Clean Great Breakfastsenjited myself, staff friendly knowledgeable journeys to town centre very close »

The rooms are very comfortable, airy clean bathrooms, had.view.of canal. The breakfast was plentiful, hot English, continental fruits yogurts toast tea variety of coffee's. Thogherly enjoyable.v view if local canal. Very close to no 69 tram to leidseplein. Or no.7 to town centre

    5
« Well kept, clean and comfortable »

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights earlier in the month. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, rooms were spotless and comfortable. We choose this hotel because of its star rating and price and we definitely weren't disappointed. It's around 15 minutes from the centre by tram but we didn't notice that as there are always some interesting things to see on the journey in/out. We had a great time here and would def stay again.

  • 3
    « Nice Location »

This property is in the fringe area but connected through local transport within 500 m and it takes over 30 minutes to reach city center. Rooms are good but staff is stressed due to reasons best known to them. They book through AMEX but later mail that the reservation to be validated by Visa or Master, else will be void, which doesn't feel professional. Breakfast is mostly western and its very difficult to find vegetarian food nearby which is cooked and not tinned. This is god for people who don't expect much

    2
« Great indoors, awful outdoors »

This hotel is absolutely amazing and well laid out on the inside. I loved everything about it!. The staff, the breakfast, the room and the overall ambiance. Sadly the entrance to the building and the overall outside of this hotel is really awful and stink. Sad to say because I would like to recommend it to people except for the entry way. It appears people pee on the walls at the front and sides of the hotel. Walking along the walls facing the canal, there was feces and pee on the corner walls as though homeless people sleep at the corners up against the concrete wall. The staff would sweep the front of the building every once in a while, but they just sweep the garbage on to the street. This hotel could be a 5/5 because of the location and cleanliness on the inside, If only they would clean up the outside, it would be great. Routine traveler.

    2
    « 2 days Business »

Area is not good, Room is samll size, Average scoor in cleaning and service, Less comfort. Too expensieve parking. No hotel shuttles to city center or back. I will not consider this hotel for next visit.

« It's all about the beans yo. »

We were transferred from the Blue Tower due a bit of a mistake on the part of our booking agent (to give credit where it is due, the Blue Tower staff were quick to organise a room for us at the sister hotel) so we were unsure what to expect. We were relieved to be greeted with friendly reception staff and a clean room. The beds were nice and big and comfy too. The following morning we woke to enjoy our complimentary breakfast (for the booking errors - a nice gesture, thank you) and it was very enjoyable breakfast indeed! The Blue Square do a good breakfast but it was all about the beans! Tasty, tasty in the Blue Square - not very tasty and way too spicy in the Blue Tower. Also I must add, if you like middle eastern food then this is a fine location. We got off the bus just up the road and walked down past all the lovely food establishments on our way to the hotel - wow, what a smell! Finally, the hotel is only 25 mins or so on the bus from Central station so get a travel card and enjoy the Dam!

    3
    « Convenient and Clean »

Stayed here for 2 nights, 15 min Tram ride from central on the number 14 Tram, the tram stop is literally a 2 min walk from the hotel. The sleeping area of the rooms are dated but very clean, the bathroom a bit more modern and again very clean. check in isn't allowed until 2pm which we wasn't made aware of at the time of booking and as we had arrived on a early flight we had to wait around a bit but there are a couple of restaurants and a supermarket close by so we got some lunch whilst we waited. Overall a good location, easily accessible, clean and perfect for a couple of nights in Amsterdam

    3
« nice hotel at convenient location.. »

Good :-Direct access from airport bus no 69...direct tram or buses to city center..clean hotel with very good wifi and nice view (canal view).. nice and safe neighborhood Bad:- staff doesn't smile..sometime takes time to attend customer and busy in their own work..we face two time issue with our wash basin..

    5
    « Great place! »

Great place, comfortable hotel. Excellent location, near to bus stops (metro, tram, train) - tickets available in hotel. Rooms clean and spacious. Very friendly and helpful hotel staff !!! Great breakfast.

    4
    « Great stay »

Staff very helpful. Hotel clean and good standard. Our room had great view of the canal. About 15 mins on tram to centre but on tram route and was not an issue. Good selection for breakfast. Car park secure. Would use again.

    5
    « Excellent »

Loved this hotel stayed here for 2 nights. We didn't have breakfast here but if you want it you can buy at the counter. Staff was lovely and thought the rooms was a decent size with a nice shower. It takes 50 mins roughly by bus from schiphol Airport and the stop is 200m from the hotel. Trams run frequently right outside the hotel an these go directly to dam or centraal.

    3
    « All right »

Hotel was ok, nothing impressive but clean and tidy. However it was quite expensive and breakfast is not included. No minibar no safe in the room. All looks somewhat old. All in all, not so good value for money, but in Amsterdam it is often the case with hotels.

  • 3
    « Nice Stay »

the hotel was a bit far from he centre but maybe that is also why the price was so good... The overall quality of the hotel is not high, the outside architecture is awful, but we spent all our days and nights out, so it really didn`t matter much : )

    4
    « Best for tourists »

This hotel is not actually a 4 star hotel, but we were satisfied for choosing it. like other people in the Netherlands, the staffs were very helpful and nice. the hotel provides you lots of maps and directions and guides for visiting the city. the "Must See" guide that hotel gave us was very useful. the location is not near the city center that was positive for us. but there is a tram & bus stop very close to the hotel that you can reach wherever you want. there is a "Jumbo" supermarket near the hotel where you can buy whatever you want to eat in a very cheap price. Our room was looking at the street but it was calm during night. the beds are very comfortable. the only negative point for this hotel is the pillows that don't have proper shape for sleeping! the housekeeper is also very satisfying. you should just ask for something and they do that for you quickely.

    2
    « Poor planning »

Really nice, clean room, totally ruined by the fact that the first couple of bedrooms were right next to a smoking area outside, and the internal security doors and room doors were banging all night. A 20 minute bus ride to Centraal station, but when we booked we were under the impression it was a 5 minute walk. Not impressed

    4
    « Great value »

We stayed at this hotel for 10 days and were very pleased during our stay. We were upgraded to a suite because we were staying for so long. The room was a good size and all the staff was very helpful. The decor is older, but it was fine since we weren't often in the room. The location is really great if you want to save a little money. It was easy to get around using the tram- the are convenient and run frequently. They stop around midnight. There are shops nearby, although they close early so it's best to get what you need before you head out for the day if you'll arrive back at they hotel late. The rooms don't have a fridge, but we found out later that we could have requested one since we had an extended stay. They also have a fridge in the reception area where you can leave drinks or food. The breakfast is decent, but had to go mostly veg since we don't eat pork products. We would definitely stay in the hotel again.

    5
« Polite staff, clean, great location!!! »

I wish more hotels in the United States were like this. Quality staff, great breakfast, quiet, CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! It's out of the way but super easy to get the tram to downtown. Great restaurants across the street. Again, the staff were the best. Very accommodating and kind people! This will be my hotel of choice when I come back.

    1
    « Don't do it »

Bad choice, very bad location, expensive for what you get, horrible staff, false economy, in the middle of no where, no fridge in the room, I really wonder who gave them the 4 stars rating. Definetly not coming back , actually Would never go back to this "hotel"

    5
« Very good place to stay. Would come back »

Hotel 30mins bus journey from airport. Stop 2mins away.. very clean large room. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast very reasonsble for a hotel 10 euros good selection. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurant ij easy walking distance on same road.. bus and trams 5mins walk to get to centrebof amsterdam easy to follow.

    5
    « Nice Hotel. »

I stayed in this hotel with a friend and we loved it. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. I was there beginning of June 2016. The tram stops are 2 min walk. We was able to buy the tram tickets at the reception. It was about 15-20 min in to Dam square. Please do not take the texi from the air port as they over charged us by 30 euros. The reception called us a taxi from the hotel to the airport only for 32 euro! compare to the 60 euro we paid to get there. The breakfast was really nice. We didn't have bed a breakfast so we just paid for it at the reception desk. First night we made the mistake by going to Dam at 9am and where left with no food as the bars/food shops/ restaurants don't open till 11-12, so we decided to eat at the Hotel.

    3
    « A bit out of Dam. »

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here and found the hotel lovely to be honest. The staff are very helpful, the room was clean, warm and comfy and the breakfast was very nice and had loads of choice. The hotel itself is very easy to find, just off two tram stops, however is a bit far out. I wouldn't say that this is bad however, as you get to see more of the beautiful city of Amsterdam and we found so many places we wouldn't have thought of seeing before. I am planning my next trip to Amsterdam and I am going to stay a but closer to Dam Square the Central Amsterdam, but this hotel is lovely and I wouldn't say not to stay there to anyone who asked.

    5
« Nice Hotel and friendly staff. »

Nice Hotel and friendly staff, perfect place to stay, its also reachable easily by Public transport and nearby Hotel there are many food shops, a big SuperMarket and what else you dont have. this is bit away from central market so even not much rush there. I enjoyed staying here,

« The best hotel deal in Amsterdam »

I reserved the room directly with the hotel and received a better price. Locationt is easy to find and ?t is easy to travel to the city center. The breakfast was excellent. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. There is even a shopping center next to it.

    « Short break »

Loved this Hotel! Stayed here for 4 nights for a great price! At first we thought we were a bit out of Amsterdam square but only a 3 minute walk and your at a team that brings you directly there in 15 minutes! Hotel was lovely and clean and staff at reception were very helpful and always friendly! Room was spotless! Would recommend the hotel to anyone and will defiantly return!

« Very Nice Hotel with Easy Transit Connections to Dam Square »

The hotel seems a bit remote when you first arrive, but soon you realize that there are several key bus and tram lines close by so getting around Amsterdam is quite easy and not expensive. The hotel is well maintained and the staff is both friendly and efficient. They are willing to help with any dining or shopping plans. WIFI is among the best we have experienced in a hotel chain. The area is pretty quiet and comfortable to get around in. We felt that rates were very fair - we opted to add daily breakfast in the hotel restaurant and we're pleased by our decision. The buffet was quite sufficient and food was plentiful and tasty. We would recommend this hotel as a good, midrange choice

    « Quiet area hotel. »

This hotel is out of the city area and has local shops nearby. There is a restaurant on site (no alcohol served) and there are other food choices in the area. Like many establishments, it is no smoking, and there is a mess of dirty smokers residue all around the hotel entrance, which is a bit off-putting. Rooms are poorly lit, shower water temp fluctuates quite a bit. In hindsight, we should have stayed downtown, as the taxi fares to and from were more than a more expensive hotel in the city.

    « Evaluation on Hotel »

Out of Hotel is not so many good restaurant. Many Turkish peoples which is good due I lived in Turkey for 6 years and communicate with them in Turkish..room itself is good and receptionist could accept early check in around 09:00. I extended one day more and paid at Reception but the same day other Receptionist called for urging me to do check out. It is not comfortable .

    « my stay »

the room and beds were comfortable, the cleaning service was very good. The reception staff were friendly and helpful but i thought it was strange there was no hotel bar. we didn't eat in the hotel so i can't comment on the food.

« Perfectly adequate for a very short stay »

My daughter and I stayed here for one night at the end of August before travelling on to Groningen the next day. I had low expectations of this hotel based on other reviews and therefore wasn't disappointed. The hotel is not in the most salubrious of areas and there didn't seem to be anywhere nice to eat locally so we took the tram (14, I think), which was only a few minutes up the road, into Dam Square. I didn't feel safe walking around the area late at night so we took a taxi back. That said, our room was huge - three beds - but this may have been due to checking in after 8 pm. I was pleasantly surprised by the toiletries in the bathroom - very good. The room and bathroom were clean and had everything you could need although the bedroom furniture is quite dated. I can't comment on the breakfast as it wasn't included in our rate so we went around the corner and had breakfast for 2 Euros each (yes, 2 Euros !) in the local Hema. One thing I should say - we had one of the quietest hotel rooms ever. There wasn't the slightest bit of noise and as an extremely light sleeper, this was a boon. Overall, this hotel is fine. I wouldn't want to stay longer than one or two nights at the most and it is quite a distance from the city centre and in not the best of areas. Fine for a stop-over but not for anything else.

« Reasonable hotel at a reasonable price »

« Not near Sloterdijk Sta - need to change the description »

I stayed here based on the 'official description' on trip advisor that 'Sloterdijk Station is just steps away'. That is a straight up lie. It is a 30 minute walk. I don't know who wrote the official description (assume to be official somebody associated with best western submitted) but it needs to be changed to reflect the actual location, which is not close to the station. I happened to stay here during some kind of convention in Amsterdam - all the hotels were sold out or had their absolute highest prices. We paid close to 200 usd for our room and it was not worth that price. I understand the normal price is about 1/3 of what we paid. This hotel would be a good value for the regular price. The room was comfortable. The hotel staff was helpful and polite. Front desk apologized for the incredibly misleading 'official description' on trip advisor - not the staff's fault but, again, management needs to fix this asap. My poor rating is based on our expectation of location and the high price. If I had not chosen this hotel based on location next to sloterdijk station and if I had paid closer to the regular price I would be happy with this hotel.

    « Beware »

This hotel is in a dreadful area of Amsterdam. It is a 29€ taxi fare from Amsterdam Central. Upon arrival our room was not ready despite our having paid for an extra night to guarantee early check in. The room was clean but slightly shabby. We were told by reception that alcohol was not served at the hotel, despite the Guest Directory advising of a bar and wine and beer being available in the dining room. We walked around the area but soon returned to the room as we felt uncomfortable in the surroundings.i would definately warn against staying here.

« Short break in Amsterdam »

This stay proved very enjoyable. It is a 20 minute tram ride into central Amsterdam but as 7 and 14 services take you to all the bits you might need , that is quite handy. Room was excellent - very quiet and peaceful - with all the facilities we needed. Good breakfast and evening dinner was taken by us at "Ada" nearby which was quite excellent. So, altogether, can recommend this as a good place to stay.

« More a bad hostel than a hotel, dirty and shabby »

This hotel suppose to have 4 stars, but it is not even worth one star. Everything is dirty and shabby. The carpets, the walls, the bath, the curtains, the windows, the breakfastroom and buffet are so dirty. Everything falls apart, the furniture, the shower, the window and door handles. It should be rebuilt very urgently. The area of the hotel is not very nice, too poor and almost all covered ladies and young men hanging around. No place for feeling good!

    « Quite good »

Stayed as part of my contiki trip. Comfortable, good size bathroom and room. We were at the back half of the building so I recomend requesting that, as it speaks much quieter, we had breakfast included downstairs this was the best breakfast I had while in Europe.

« Good value for money »

A little way out of town but easily accessible by tram which is definitely the way to travel in Amsterdam. This is a no frills hotel, with a decent buffet breakfast (make sure you book breakfast in advance for the cheaper rate) Everywhere clean and tidy, rooms standard size for this type of hotel. Staff friendly.

« Family Holiday in Amsterdam »

Out of the city centre in a quiet multicultural suburb with excellent bus and tram services to Amsterdam central. This Hotel is clean, secure and very well staffed with its own underground carpark. All staff were friendly, helpful, multilingual and a pleasure to speak to. Breakfast was generous and well served. As a family we would happily stay here again and recommend the hotel to friends.

« Perfect hotel for what we needed »

Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Amsterdam. It is not too far from the city centre but a lot cheaper than if staying right in the centre. The hotel is very clean and tidy. There are free maps and booklets about the city with many discounts in. Breakfast is €10 if booked at least a day before or €12.50 on the day. Rooms are spacious, clean and tidy. Contains a tv, air conditioning and body products as well as tea facilities. Perfect hotel. In terms of getting to the city you just need to walk around the corner to the public transport stop and catch either the 21 bus or tram 14/7 all of which run frequently and end in different places around the town. We bought a pass for metro and bus from the airport info desk at €21 ish each for the 4 days for all transport including the bus 69 from the airport straight to the hotel and back - this is definitely the best price of staying between 1-4 days and in the area in which we stayed! There is a big supermarket on the corner of the street if you need to purchase any essentials, along with a market, other shops and a few restaurants. Highly recommend!

    « Ups and downs »

Ok where do I begin.. Ups: The hotel was relatively clean, the zone was good too: calm, not too close nor too distant from the city center, well serviced in matter of food and public transport. There was a lot of cute stuff in the room, such as soaps, creams, tea, skin products and it wasn't noisy. Downs: the stuff is always at your service but not all of them are efficient. There was a lot of misunderstanding, especially concerning money and things to pay. I paid €30 for a breakfast! We were asked to choose between eating downstairs or having it in the bedroom, I choose the bedroom and even tho I imagined it, they didn't tell me I had to pay €5 (per head) of service. Then, they asked us to make a list of what we wanted and give them some time before to pay €10 instead of 12. Good enough me and my girlfriend sat down and wrote a list. They brought us 2 of everything because we were a couple and made us pay €20 without even asking us if we were both gonna eat. My advice: go to one of the places around the hotel to have a better breakfast for a more honest price. Other problems with the bycicles, don't take them, they're all broken and super hard to use, and if someone steal them from you, keys and everything(mind that they have special locks in which the key stays inside while you're using them), you'll have to pay €350. My brake was broken, and let me tell you, I took the precaution to tell them first and take a picture 'cause I couldn't trust them for anything.. Another thing, mind that if you put the towels on the floor to make them change them, they won't change the, they will take them away from you. Conclusion: be extra careful with every move and ask a lot of questions!

« good hotel but nothing much around »

We stayed in this hotel for 6 days. The room that we stayed in had two single beds. It was quite small but the bed, pillows and sheets were comfortable enough. The carpet was a little old and dirty and the furnitures were not modern at all. Although the bathroom seemed to be newly renovated as the fixtures looked new and modern. The hotel is quite far from the city around 25-30 minutes via bus or tram. Good thing we bought the 72hour I Amsterdam Card, so traveling around wasn't really a problem. The neighborhood was quiet. It was more like a residential area so there weren't much activities going on. There are supermarkets (Tanger and Albert Heijn), shopping center, a fast food chain (Halal Fried Chicken) and small cafes just a minute walk away from the hotel. How to go to Hotel from Schiphol Airport: Ride bus 69 and go down at "Lodewijck van Deysselstraat bus stop" or the "Plein 40-45 bus stop" in case you miss the previous one. The bus stop is not directly outside the hotel but the blue boxy hotel is visible, so it's quite easy to locate. Travel time would be around 30 minutes.

    « Good »

This hotel is really clean and has everything you'd need to be comfortable. I stayed in a room with two single beds, and the room was set up in a really stupid way. The double beds were facing opposite directions to each other, headboard to headboard with a cupboard dividing it. It made communicating with my roommate difficult and was just a generally awkward set up. Other than that, it is a good hotel.

    4
    « Good hotel »

This hotel is a really nice place. I would recommend it to anyone going to the dam. It's in the suburbs of the city, around 15 minutes on a tram. But this means that the prices in the local shops are lower, there is a shopping centre right next to the hotel with two supermarkets and all sorts of shops. Really nice canals round there too.

    « Great stay »

Loved it helpful staff clean tidy what more do u need.... The location was easy to get to and from Amsterdam central and the airport 1 bus each way to either. Not much in the way around hotel but we didn't come to stay at hotel we came to see the sights of Amsterdam.

    « Confortable stay »

The beds are big and confortable, the room is spacious and the staff is kind; breakfast is good and international but too much expensive; the position of the hotel is good, public transports nearby and you can reach the centre in 20 minutes

    « one night »

We just have had a one night stop in this hotel. The hotel is far from the city centre even if a bus stop is really close to the hotel. The team at the reception point was kind and pleasent with us. The room was confotable and clean.

« Good, clean and comfortable »

The hotel has really good bus links to the city centre and the airport. We found it easily and we're met by friendly staff . We were a bit dissapointed that when we asked for our two twin rooms ( a mistake by the holiday company not the hotel ) to be made up as 2 doubles. Apparently that couldn't be done and the closest that they could do was make up the two separate beds and then push them together ?... The rooms were otherwise good and clean with great bathrooms and nice comfortable immaculately clean beds and bedding. We rented 4 bikes from the hotel which was inexpensive and easy. 2 of them had flat tyres but these were swapped immediately and hassle free. Breakfast was pretty good and again inexpensive. A decent variety of foods hot and cold and all good quality. For anyone on a budget this is a decent hotel with good standards good transport links and helpful staff

    « Relaxing Environment »

I stayed 2 nights at BW Blue Square Amsterdam with my husband. The location was not exactly near to the city centre or where all the happenings are, but it is quite easy to reach by trams. I can say the best thing of Amsterdam is the hotel, the room is really spacious and clean, shower is working perfectly, bed sheets are clean and neat. It's just a nice nest to relax after a long stroll in the centre.

    5
« Had great stay here »

Great stay at blue square hotel. I got an upgrade to a bigger room, I liked the hotel. It was clean and calm. It was not far away from the centre of Amsterdam, 15 minutes with a cab. Friendly staff! Would recommend it and come back.

    « Good clean hotel »

Stayed here 1 night as part of a tour. Nice clean rooms. Good walk in shower that had plenty of hot water. Breakfast was reasonable. The hotel is a little from the centre of amsterdam but there is a tram stop just down the road that takes you into the centre. If your looking for a nice clean hotel this is certainly a good choice.

« Worth staying outside the city centre! »

We had looked at a number of hotels in the city centre of Amsterdam, but as this was a last minute trip, we were not happy with them, or they were too expensive. I decided to look outside the city centre and found the Best Western Blue Square hotel (and it IS bright blue!) to be right on a tram and bus main route into the city and also realised that the hotel represented excellent value for the price charged compared to similar hotels in the centre. The corner room was very spacious, if a little noisy being on the main road side, extremely well furnished with a large, comfortable bed, large TV, safe and lots of storage. there was a spacious, sparkling clean bathroom, positively over-flowing with complimentary toiletries , including spare toothbrush and shaving kits, plentiful shower gel, shampoo etc.slippers and even a shoe horn. I have never seen so many extras, even in 5 star hotels!! Housekeeping was very good and the entrance, stairs etc we very smart. Slightly disappointed with the fact that no alcohol was served at dinner and there didn't seem to be a bar in the hotel, so we dined elsewhere and found an excellent Egyptian restaurant over the road. However, the breakfast buffet was massive and covered every type of diet one could wish for. Take advantage of the carousel of tickets in reception for the many places to visit in Amsterdam and book through reception to get a discount. The trams (nos 7 & 14) went from just outside and directly into the centre of the city. Buying a 2 day pass was the most economical solution to buses and trams. We caught the number 69 bus directly from the airport to almost outside the hotel, which took about 35 minutes. Would definitely book there again and sample some more of the local restaurants. A nearby large supermarket and shops were also handy. Amsterdam is one of the best, most friendly cities I have visited and I would definitely go back to see the rest of the museums that we couldn't get to as it was very crowded in August.

    « A very nice staff »

The staff of the hôtel was very nice and helpful. I was Happy with my room even if the woodworks need to be renovate. The hôtel is 20 minutes far from the center of Amsterdam and there are 2 tram and the night bus which stop 5 minutes away from the hotel.

    « Good location »

I am happy with my choice. The hotel is about 4 miles away from city center. I actually came back with my missus yesterday walking from city center and took us with all the stops and everything under 2 hours. It is a decent hotel, decent room and more than decent bath. On it's exterior looks terrible but once you enter inside on reception area you will change your mind. I haven't booked it with breakfast so I can't say anything about food. The only downside is that you can hear any noise from other rooms. Friendly and polite staff.

« Friendly hotel at reasonable price »

We stayed for 5 nights and would highly recommend the Blue Square, particularly the rear rooms with a view over the canal. The staff are friendly and helpful and it makes a good base for exploring the city particularly if you want somewhere away from the tourist crowd. The direct bus from and to the airport (69) was easy to find and the buses will take cash payments. The bus (21) and the two trams (7 and 14) take you to various parts of the central city. A 4-day (or other ) pass can be bought at the hotel. Other reviewers have mentioned that they felt unsafe, that there were no shops or eating places. We are in our 80s and ate at a variety of the cafes (including HFC (=Halal Fried Chicken) and the Ada Lunch Cafe on the canal). There are are a variety of shops including a weekday market just by the hotel and a shopping mall, and my wife had an excellent haircut at one of the several such establishments. But there are no touristy shops. And we felt completely safe in the streets at all times sometimes up to midnight. People in the shops and street were friendly and helpful

    « Lovely stay »

For the amount we paid for this holiday I wasn't expecting our Accommodation to be spectacular but this hotel was one of the best stays I've had! It was clean, beautiful. The room were big. I got a corner room with a panoramic view window. Mahogany effect furniture with lots of storage and a free safe to use. The rooms were always cleaned to a very high standard and we always had loads of complementary toiletries and even complimentary tea and coffee in our room. We had more than enough facilities in our room and the staff were very friendly and smart and spoke English beautifully. Right next to a tram line so great transport links. Also offered bike hire.

    « Birthday weekend »

Nice quiet hotel. Staff were always polite helpful and eager to help. The room was clean comfortable and good size had a nice view over the canal. Is about 30 mins from airport and easy to get to on 69 bus, driver was awesome and stopped right outside for us. The trams/busses ate amazing, on time and we hardly ever waited longer than a few mins. It takes about 25 mins to get to central station and the stop is just around the corner from hotel. The supermarket across the square is very good and open late

« Simple Hotel in a highly used condition and bad location »

The hotel is in average ok. The bedrooms are pretty "used" and old. The service and the breakfast is ok and for a simple overnight the hotel is ok. But the location is pretty bad, like in the slum of Amsterdam. A big plus is the train directly in front of the hotel which brings you in more or less 20 minutes into the city of Amsterdam. Coming back in the night with the train is also possible and "safe". I just wouldnt leave my car outside and better park it in the garage of the hotel what costs you 15€ per day.

« Reasonable if not memorable »

Myself and a friend stayed for 3 rights here via a Groupon deal. It seems The hotel mainly attracts business visitors and they're trying to tempt in tourists more. The hotel itself and the rooms were fine. Clean, tidy. Air conditioning could have made a more peaceful night though. All staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfasts were also pretty good. All in all it was perfectly fine though not up to its 4*rating. The bar despite it being peak season was constantly closed and overall the hotel could do with a wee makeover. Being located a good 20 minute ride from the centre wouldn't also make it first on manys list but for 3 nights for us that wasn't a problem really. Overall the hotel suited our needs but these admittedly were relatively low!

    5
« Clean hotel with excellent views of Amsterdam canal, though outside the city »

Though this hotel is outside Amsterdam, it was just a 20 min tram ride from center. There are direct tram connections within 200 mts from the hotel and I found it really convenient. I stayed with my family and the rooms which we got was waterfront facing which was a pleasant view, also overlooking the canal and nearby supermarket. I would definitely recommend this place. The supermarket is also nearby so we did a quick food grocery shopping too. The main highlight of the stay was breakfast, it was one of the best I had so far in my stay in Europe in similar hotels. The buffet had plenty of variety. If you don't mind staying a bit far from the city this is an ideal place.

    5
    « 20mins outside of Amsterdam »

Excellent location as it's a very cheap tram or bus ride away with several routes interconnecting to get you there, plus the bus to Schiphol Airport runs from a stop directly in front of the hotel. Facilities are very clean and tidy and perfect for a short stay. Breakfast is provided and although a little short on quality, if you're mopping up beer from the night before its what you'd want. Overall very satisfied with our stay.

    4
« Good room, standard hotel but in reality 3 stars not 4 stars as advertised »

The room which was a twin was good enough, adequate space for a short stay or 3-4 days although we were there for 6 days. It is ideal if you want something a little bit quieter out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre, which is accessible by regular trams in about 20 minutes. There is one end of an open canal which in length and breath resembles a park lake. As this seems to be an area partly populated by people of Turkish descent, there are a number of descent Turkish restaurants nearby - also a pizzeria and a halal chicken takeaway but otherwise not much else. The breakfast in the hotel was kind of pricey at 12.50 per head so we headed across the road each morning to a rather funky café called the Coffee Shop ot Koffee House ( I forget the name) where the breakfast was fresh, better quality and much cheaper at 6.50 Euros per head. The reason I state that this should be classified as 3 star hotel rather 4 is that there is no bar open in the evening although there is a restaurant with a basic menu and there are no swimming pool, gym or other facilities. Single travellers or couples beware you should asked for a quieter side of the hotel as this is a hotel stop for coach parties and in particular Contiki the tour company aimed at 18-35. We had no trouble with noise personally and the rooms are soundproofed to degree but this is just a warning. Overall though, this is very serviceable if somewhat characterless hotel which has reasonable access by public transport to the city centre. For those old enough to remember and who have enjoyed in the past shopping there where they existed in England, there is a C & A in the local shopping centre Winkel centrum very neaby.

« Further out but nice stay! »

Myself and two friends went to Amsterdam for the weekend and stayed at this hotel. You won't be able to miss it as like it's title, its blue! On a lovely square, we had a view of the lake out the back which was beautiful. It's not very close to the centre, we had to get a bus or taxis but it was a very clean hotel, friendly staff, bit out dated rooms but there perfect for what you need them for! I would recommend in the future if you want to be a bit further out.

« Out of the way but lovely stay! »

Stayed here in May 2014 and upon arrival we were absolutely terrified about what to expect inside as it literally is a big blue square. However, we were so impressed. The rooms were spacious, and the bathroom was lovely. Comfy bed and lots of space to hang your clothes. The hotel was well out of the way but we just went on the tram everywhere so it wasn't too bad. Would defo recommend

    « Lovely »

I stayed here for 5 nights with my partner and we were very happy with the hotel, the rooms were very clean and tidy, the bed was amazing to sleep in, didn't want to move. The staff were always helpful and very friendly, the maids were always very bubbly in the morning and made sure to greet you. The outside of the hotel isn't great and it doesn't look much, but the inside was really nice. There's nothing much around the hotel, mainly just little shops etc, but the staff were very helpful when it came to advising us on what tram to get etc to get into the town. I would stay here again, both me and my partner enjoyed our stay and we are planning on returning hopefully next year :)

    « Nice hotel »

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights with a group of friends. We chose this hotel due to its price. For the price we paid, it is an excellent hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and kind, the rooms were clean with our towels/bedding being changed every night. It is about 20mins tram ride to the city centre. The tram/bus stop is just around the corner and we purchased a 3 day pass which was defiantly worth the money. We also hired bikes from the hotel which was great fun. If I returned to Amsterdam, I'd stay here again. Wouldn't get a hotel in the centre of town for the price we paid.

    4
« We liked it what we pay! »

It was close to the bus stop. Nice clean hotel in the outskirt to the central amsterdam. Nice and comfy bed. The receptionist was very helpful to get me charger with different plug! All nice stay and we enjoyed!

    « Worst hotel ever »

Have just checked into this horrible place and on first impressions it's ok. After a walk around our shower is very rusty, and there is cum on the floor in the corner of the bedroom. A lot. And it's unmistakable. My partner works as a professional carpet cleaner and it's very much cum. On the floor. Everywhere. This place is gross. Do not come here.

    « Contiki Hotel »

A very clean and modern hotel that has a great appearance and has many facilities to match your needs. There is a bistro on the bottom floor that provides very nice food and all the basic essentials inside the rooms. Is a bit away from the center of the city but is still close enough to everything you need.

    4
« Clean hotel, friendly staff convenient for transport »

We had a great 5 day city break here and would definitely go back again and recommend it to others. Two couples. Great 4 night stay. Accommodation was modern and up there with the rest of todays modern city break mass hotels. Large spacious rooms. Tv coffee/tea facilities. Excellent shower and bath. Lifts available. Friendly staff and great buffet breakfast although sometimes the eggs and bacon ended up being cooked to death. I had trouble walking long distances but the location of this hotel is so good that you can get the tram or bus just outside. Take the 69 bus to get back to Schipol airport (half an hour). Take the no 14 tram to get into the Dam- centre of Amsterdam (15-20 mins). The trams are so frequent (every 10 mins or so). The buses every half hour. We bought a travel card from the hotel desk (you can get them from most newsagents as well as main stations). It was €21 and boy did we get our monies worth! You can hop-on hop-off any bus or tram in Amsterdam. There are a few shops and restaurants near the hotel. And an outside market set up outside twice whilst we were the selling stuff mainly for the muslim community. The hotel looks like blue squares and kind of looks out of place in this mainly residential area. At the back you have a wide bay area which is an offset of one of the canals that runs past it. It is a nice area to sit and people watch whilst your wife pops onto the nearby shopping mall (not much in it though ladies!). Great hotel and easy as pie for transport links.

    « Short Break with a Friend »

The hotel itself is very nice with helpful staff and clean rooms. We had a lovely room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet and overlooked the canal. Breakfast was also lovely with a large assortment of hot and cold food. The only reason for me not giving a 5 star rating is because of its location. It is located roughly 30 minutes outside the city centre in not the most salubrious of areas. Otherwise all good.

I stayed here when on work. Unable to fit my works van in car park but free evening street parking (1909-0900) plenty of local shops, couple of bars within a couple mins walk. It was a bit too far from the centre of Amsterdam but this was just an overnight stop over. Clean but dated rooms. At the time I was there a lot of coach parties were arriving. Very bust reception and under staffed. Good budget hotel.

    « Long weekend »

Clean and tidy rooms basic but comfortable Plenty of choice for breakfast and replenished often while we were there except for the bake beans. 20 mins from the centre with easy access to the Tram and Train which ran frequently and stopped at the bottom of the road. We had a pleasant stay...

« GREAT VALUE AND EXCELLENT TRANSPORT LINKS TO ALL PARTS OF TOWN! »

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, we were on ground floor with a view straight down the canal. Good beds all clean and after a room move to escape a noisy fire door complete peace and quiet, also good bathroom with shower over bath. Breakfast is buffet with continental and English and is replenished continually. Bought the 72 hour bus, tram and metro ticket for 17.5 euro and gave it a thrashing, great value, 69 bus runs from road outside to and from airport and 7 and 14 tram also outside run into town Dam Square Rijksmuseum etc.etc. This hotel is situated in the Turkish quater amid much social 1970s housing which should not put you off and if you have taste for honey drenched baclava it's readily available good grill opposite is useful first night and 80 mtrs to left a cross road is a very friendly bar

    « Would stay again! »

Me and my boyfriend just recently stayed at the blue square hotel for 2 nights. It was clean and the staff were very very friendly! They offered advice and were happy to help with anything. The breakfast buffet was great! With a mix of hot food and continental. Only 10min by tram 14 to the dam square and around 30min to the airport via bus 69 :D We would definitely come to this hotel when we come back to Amsterdam. We could find no fault with it, thank you for making our stay in Amsterdam great :D

    « 2night stay! »

Arrived early in the morning and our room wasn't ready but they checked us in and looked after our bags while we explored! 10min tram ride out of town, mostly halal meat sold around the area but inside the hotel is nice but over priced food! Staff are very friendly and the rooms are good and very equipped!

« A nice place to stay near the city »

It's not smack bang in central Amsterdam, but you can easily get on a tram to central nearby the hotel or get an Uber. The rooms are clean, comfy and free wifi works very well. Dinner and breakfast was basic but was nice and there is hot food. There are several shops and ATM across the street so it's very convenient.

    « Pleasant Stay! »

I recently visited the 'Best Western Blue Square Hotel' with my girlfriend for her birthday. From the airport we caught the 69 Bus, it was about a 30 minute journey to our hotel and placed us 200m from the foot of the hotel. On arrival we was greeted by the receptionist who was pleasant. She offered us the breakfast option and extra cost which we declined and told us how to get to our room. Although our room was on the ground floor and at the front of the hotel, we did not hear any of the traffic on the high road. The room was not modern however it was very clean. Once we was settled and was ready to explore the city of Amsterdam, we asked the receptionist for direction and she gave us a map with the tram routes and popular destinations to get off at. Tram 7 & 14 took to the main parts of Dam. If you wanted to get to Central Amsterdam you would need to get Tram 14 to 'Dam' and change to get Tram 9 or 16 to Central Amsterdam. The transport is straight forward once you have done it a few times. The receptionist also sold us our travel card. I highly recommend buying this rather then getting cabs. We paid 21 Euros for 96 hours of travel. This lasted the 4 days we was in the city. We had wifi in the room however it wasn't strong. The best spot for the wifi was in the lobby. The hotel does not provide currency exchange which would of been great if they did. For what we paid for the hotel we had a great experience. we wasn't expecting 5 start treatment but it was an enjoyable trip. I plan to revisit Amsterdam this year November and i will be staying at this hotel again!

« Low value for money and stars (rating) »

The hotel is considered to be a 4-star but only on papers, due to the following reasons: 1. Location in in the middle of a poor neighborhood full of immigrants (muslims & africans mainly) - feels unsafe. 2. Hotel staff: friendly but understaffed 3. Room: Extremely dated, everything is old - curtains ripped off, furniture all scratched, walls dirty, mould in the bathroom. It seems that everything is left in their own luck 4. Cleanliness: Extremely poor, the toilet had stains from the previous guests, I stayed 3 days and although I left the "pls make my room" card on the door, my room was never made, not even once during my stay. I saw the detergents that the cleaning lady used and it is all cheap from Lidl (W5 brands etc. It seems that the owner tries to stay on a budget by all means). Bad smell in corridors and room. 5. Breakfast: poor but ok, almost everything has a "canned" feeling, it seems of the cheapest quality. All in all, for the money you pay (~130€/night for a single) in other countries you could live like a king/queen. The only good parts was the tram stop nearby that takes you to the center in 15' and the bus stop that takes you to the airport in 35'. If you don't have great expectations, then it is bearable.

« Good base for visiting amsterdam »

When looking for somewhere to stay in Amsterdam i was shocked at the prices of the hotels... We had got this hotel for 3 nights B&B for £250, compared to £400+ which they were looking in the centre. We got bus 69 from the airport to the stop Plein 40-45, it was €2.90 pp... took about 30 mins, the bus stop is a few mins walk to the hotel. Check in was quick and our room was ready when we arrived at 1pm. We had a twin room, room was of a good size, clean, nice bathroom with a good shower & hairdryer. tea & coffee making facilities and beds where comfortable. Only managed to make breakfast 1 day, it was fine, set us up for the day anyway... to get in to the city centre you just had to walk to the end of the street again to the bus stop. you could get bus 21 or tram 7 or 14.. we got a 3 day pass so using the buses was so simple just beeped on and off again.. the bus service was amazing, we never waited more than 2 mins on a bus... we never used the tram as the bus always was 1st to come along when we were waiting.. it was about 20 mins into the city centre, i didn't think it was a big deal as would do that at home! The bus leaves you right in the city centre close to dam square/red light... We had no issues whatsoever so i would happily recommend this to anyone travelling on a budget.

« Bad location nothing around »

Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner hotel was ok , breakfast was ok , shower was good but leaked onto bathroom floor with door closed , LOCATION was 20-25 minutes by tram to the cbd (dam square), , tram ticket was 72hour pass was 17€ pp, Tram stop was a walk from hotel and being 27 years old plus you would think I would feel comfortable doing the walk to & from the hotel/tram stop (daytime) in the neighbourhood ,I didn't at all was quiet uneasy (& would definitely not do the walk after dark) & there is no where else to go in area except hotel , no night life no shopping nothing to see , not somewhere I would stay again as hotel is in the middle of no where & cab fair is roughly 24€-30€ to city , worth paying for a hotel more central as there are so many better hotels available closer to anything !!! Wifi was also terrible

« Good hotel, but a little way out »

My wife and i stayed at the Best Western Blue and were happy with the choice. The hotel front is a little unassuming, rather like the surrounding area. It is situated on one side of what looks like a market square in a mainly Turkish area. It is situated around 25mins by tram away from the centre, Dam sguare. The reception staff were helpful and even changed our room when we asked to swap for a double, rather than two singles together. The rooms are spacious and clean even if a little 70's ish. This is in keeping with the general look of 70's prefab council housing of the surrounding buildings. The breakfast was a buffet style and included both continental as well as good old full English. It got repetitive after a few days but not a problem. Trams into the centre are located a couple of minutes outside the hotel. You have a selection of no.7 or 14 to take you right into the centre. There isn't a varied selection of restaurants around the hotel, indeed not a lot of commercial activity generally but that was fine as we'd eat out in the centre most days. Wifi is freely available which isn't as prevalent in Amsterdam as I'd imagined. We had a great time generally. Things to do include, visits to; Rijksmuseum. Vangough museum, the sex museum, canal trip through the old town, red light district, flower market, Christmas Palace shop (near flower market) coffee shops for ganj, the main rail station - great architecture, and just strolling through the old town generally. Plenty of places to drink and eat. I particularly recommend the Venus & Adonis restaurant in the Jordaan district for a good quality evening meal. For lunch of a good burger and fries go no further than the Burger bar. There a several in Amsterdam. Great home made burgers. All in all a great time.

    « Very nice »

Stayed at this hotel for one night. It was very nice and well kept. A quick 20-30 minute drive to the main tourist area of Amsterdam. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, buffet style. Food was good. The staff were friendly and helpful when needed. The rooms were modern and the beds were comfortable. We got free WIFI and were able to access it from our rooms. Great place to stay!

    « Lovely staff! »

The staff are so kind and helpful and friendly, and I would reccomend the breakfasts as there is loads of choice. The hotel is clean and satisfactory, however the decor is dated and the room is slightly shabby. The area is not central Amsterdam, that is about a 20 minute tram ride.

    2
    « Just to sleep »

The location is 20 min tram ride away from the center. Room size was OK. But the carpets were old. Breakfast was very bad. If you are looking for a place just to sleep and the distance to center is not a problem then it can be a choice.

« Nice Hotel but very far from anything »

I stayed here with my partner in January 16. It was a surprise birthday trip away only booked a week or so before so it was all very rushed. The hotel is quite far away from the airport and we used a bus to get there which stopped about 200m from the hotel. The area is ok, pretty noisy and there's not too much to do near the hotel so you'll have to get used to taxi's or the tram. We heard the tram was meant to be pretty easy to use and I must admit after he 1st day we felt we we're confident on choosing which ones to go on! The hotel itself is lovely, the room was quite dark and absolutely boiling when we first arrived. First thing we did was turn the heating off and head out into the city. When we got back at night the room was so cold we had to sleep in our coats! The beds are ok,quite firm but comfy. The room was pretty dark and pokey but this wasn't an issue. The breakfast was soooo lovely, lots to choose from and nice and hot! When I visit Amsterdam again I probably wouldn't choose this hotel but only because of how far away it is from the city and the tourist spots. Amsterdam is so beautiful and full of quirkiness we loved it. A lot of tourists visit because of smoking and what they can smoke there. This was pretty evident the hotel because there was always groups of people hanging around the entrance smoking cannabis but I guess you'll find that everywhere. Overall a lovely hotel but be prepared to use lots of public transport!

    « Locely »

Lovely room, reception staff were friendly and always willing to help!! Breakfast was great for €10 as it was a buffet and you could have as much as you wanted during that time period. Good access to trams to and from the centre of town, the airport etc. Would come again!!

« Spacious room and very helpful staff. »

This hotel was very pleasant and provided a nice two-day stay for my family of four (with daughters aged 19 and 21). The continental breakfast was very ample and tasty. The staff was helpful and eager to provide advice when I asked for it, and arranged a taxi for us to leave for the airport. The very literal blue paint on the square-ish building even helped us identify it as we were walking back from dinner. The ONLY complaint I have is that the water pressure was very low in the shower and the water temperature was not consistent. Other than that, it was a wonderful stay.

    3
« Good hotel, but far from city center »

Good quality/price ratio, service was good and room was comfortable. The only inconvenience would be the distance from the city center. However, 300 meters from the hotel there is a public transport station.

« Good value for money, but needs some approvements »

When most hotels in the city center are getting incredible expensive in Amsterdam, this one stays very much afforable. The location is not great (20 minutes by tram to the center), the furneture needs improvement as it is a little bit run down. The beds are excellent though. Service is not great, Food not worthwhile. All in all it's a good deal, especially in summer en spring. I came back already 5 times. Tip: opposite the hotel is a nice small grill restaurant, good value, called Toutanchamon

    « great holiday »

We spent 3 nights in amsterdam and the blue square hotel as a choice was pretty convenient. Tram 14 and 7 take you pretty much everywhere you need to go around amsterdam and they are just ouside the hotel. If you come by car just know there is no free parking as advertised on certain websites when you book the hotel. Outside and inside the hotel parking from 9 in the morning you have to pay parking which is about 15 euros a day. On holidays parking is free. We did not book breakfast but it is a wise choice to do so since the prices are a bit higher if you choose to have breakfast on the day. If you book your breakfast a day before it's 10 euros, otherwise it's 12,50 per person. It's a good way to start your morning since outside the hotel there aren't many places that offer that much variety for the same amount. We were able to check in earlier. Our keys and room were ready at about 13h which was more than amazing since we could just drop our bags and start visiting. You can buy a 3 day pass for tram from the hotel which is 17 euros but it is only for tram. We wanted to use it for bus but we were told by the bus driver we needed a ticket, because our pass was just for tram. Other than that the hotel provides you with maps, vouchers to visit some of the most important places. Our room was nice and clean, it was cleaned every day so our stay was really pleasant. We were also able to check out early which we were very thankful for. Other than that a little tip when you visit amsterdam. Just in case you need to find a toilet, and run for macdonalds just know you have to pay 50 cents everywhere around town to use their bathrooms even if you do buy something from them. This being said i would stay again at the blue square if i were to be beck in amsterdam again.

« some advices for administrator »

hotel easy to reach from airport with bus n° 69; tram(7, 14) and bus (21 ) permit, in 20 minutes, to get down in the downtown from hotel. My wife regrets for the lack of bidet or a phone shower, even my friends, who accompanied me in this journey, regret in the same way. The breakfast is rich of salads but very poor of sweets and it's well known that Italians love a sweet breakfast with cappuccino. The reception has been very friendly. If I'll return to Amsterdam I think of booking the Blue Square

    5
« Amazing value and service »

Excellent service from all staff particularly reception staff. Huge room with lovely modern bathroom. Room 153 Delicious buffet breakfast with lots of choice. Would definitely recommend even though out of the city centre. Very close to Tram stop.

« Good Value for a Short Stay »

A pleasant, clean and convenient hotel a little way out of the centre. Our room had a very nice outlook over the canal basin. The room facilities were agequate, but the lack of any drawers and very high hanging space in the wardrobe did not help manage clothing. The room had a TV, teamaking facilities and good Wifi. The charged garage was a bit of a trek fron the front of the hotel and it has low headroom, so if you, like us, have a roof rack, it could need unloading before entry. Locally all the food seemed to be Turkish, good, but if you want variety you should use the hotel or go into town. The hotel is on convenient bus and tram routes to the centre. We had a problem with a mobility scooter which was welcome on the ingoing tram, but we had a big arguement on the way back that powered wheelchairs were not allowed. evetually other passengers helped us. The hotel staff were excellent and for the price I would recommend it.

    « Amazing stay in May 2016 »

The hotel looks old from outside but it's actually pretty good inside. We had a double room and it was good. The bathroom was a little bit small but you've no problem to use it. The location is close to the bus / tram Station. You can take up to 5 different vehicles to the central station and you've a direct bus connection to the airport. (Bus number 69). Next to the hotel (50m) is a small shopping center where you can buy food / drink and all the stuff you need. Theres also an breakfast restaurant inside the shopping center. I highly recommend you to buy the amsterdam travelpass for 3 days it's about 25 euro and you can use the whole public transport in amsterdam.

    5

Room are extremely big, wonderful breakfast, the price is very low for the service. well-organised, they get you immediately all the information you need, very polite. room are very clean. the bathroom is huge.

    « Nice stay »

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. My room was very big and had an updated bathroom. The wifi did not work well in my room (first floor away from the lobby). The location was not bad, and the bus/train system was very easy to get into the city. I traveled alone and was looking forward to a full-sized bed that I chose online, however it was only 2 twin-sized beds pushed together. That was disappointing. Staff was friendly, but only had 1 girl working the desk both days. Would have been faster service with 2 people. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would come back again.

    3
« Best for large groups, no personality »

Not ideal for solo travelers or couples. Best suited for large tour groups. Food in restaurant not worth the money one pays. Staff in restaurant very friendly but it certainly did not make up for the poor quality of the food. Not the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, but certainly not the best. I would have a hard time returning to this hotel and would only recommend it to people traveling in large groups and who do not mind noisy, charmless accommodation.

« Very nice and pleasent stay with helpful staff »

The hotel is like 15 minutes from the center of the city with good connectivity of busses and trams and over all a very nice hotel to stay, nice bathrooms and a spacious clean rooms with excellent buffet breakfast

    « Birthday celebrations x »

Excellent stay at the Blue Square so I will not hesitate in RECOMMENDING it to friends and family. If we ever go back we'd definitely look to stay here again. Our online deal was a steal and we really didn't have high expectations so we were pleasantly surprised to find everything clean and in good condition. The staff so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble :) breakfast was brilliant too, served until 10:30 every morning. Hotel is directly opposite a school and there are also lots of restaurants/bars/fruit markets etc up and down this road but from inside the hotel it's so quiet. Every day before we left the room we left the air con on as we couldn't open the windows and this ensured our room was nice and cool for when we got back. We did have two single beds but again we didn't find this an issue. Beds were made and towels changed every day without us having to request it. Bus 69 from Schiphol airport drops you off 2mins walk away from the hotel (20min drive), tram 14 takes you directly to Dam square (15min) and tram 7 takes you to the other end of town (15mins). Only 3 things to bear in mind on nights out in Dam; avoid back alley streets, last tram is 11:45ish and for the love of God avoid getting in a taxi!! They are nuts!! It added to the whole experience but let's just say I was very happy to still be in one piece at the end of that 'speedy' 5min drive!! Enjoy :)

« Weekend with my Mum »

This hotel is ideally situated a few miles out of the centre with shops and restaurants on your doorstep. Most of the restaurants are turkish which is ok if you that, which I do but my mum does not. Staff in the main were nice although when we arrived an hour after the earleist check in time we had to wait for 20 minutes in a queue. Only 1 receptionist was tending to the customers although a few others were visible which was quite annoying. The hotel was immaculate & breakfast was adequate. We were given a lovely big room on one of the corners of the hotel with big windows on 2 sides, giving us lots of light & space. The hotel advertises dinner in the evening & a bar but the hotel was very quite in the evening & we never saw anyone in it & when I asked about the bar & where it was I was told it wasn't open, this was at 7pm!

« Never going to Visit again!!! »

Well Wi-fi do not work here, staff keeps on repeating that it is working fine on my phone but never kook into that. Service - No service at all, in two days time , they never came to service the room, thank god we brought towels with us!! Location - pretty much close to bus stop just 3 minutes walk, it is 15 minutes by bus from central location and also tram no 7 is available from the same spot. Rooms - Pretty good with nice set of furniture!

« BEST western (best for sure) »

Very very nice hotel. Some people are complaining about the location. I don't understand what they expect. Its not far away from the central Amsterdam (around 20mins ride by bus on number 21 bus) Overall I was very happy with the location.

    « Good Hotel »

Stayed for 3 nights. Good hotel, excellent breakfast. Reception staff very helpful. Bus 21 takes you to centre of Amsterdam about a 20 to 30 min journey depending on traffic. We didn't eat dinner at hotel but restaurant opposite served good food.

    « Great Location »

Great hotel, not too far to get into Amsterdam central, just catch the No 69 bus, down the bottom of the road. Also you can get the no 69 bus back to the airport. Staff are friendly and helped us with tickets for the bus, we got a 72 hour pass for 17 euros, you can use this on the buses or trams. If your going for a weekend, don't take the hairdryer, one already in the room. Also shower gel, shampoo etc. Save on taking these with you. We filled up on the breakfast, buffet style, kept us all going most of the day. Things to do: Segways tour, had a fab time doing this. Ice Bar Red light walking tour Boat trip round the canals, loads to choose from. All had a fab time.

« Great stay and great value for money »

My partner and I recently visited Amsterdam on a 3 day trip and stayed in this hotel. The stay was excellent and the hotel was ideal for what we came for. From the airport, the bus number 69 took us straight to the hotel. Check in was simple and the staff were excellent in answering any questions we had, they were very welcoming and attentive. Our room was much bigger than we had expected which was great, and had all the facilities we needed. Before we came we were worried about the distance from the hotel to the centre of Amsterdam, however the trams could not be more straight forward, they come from around the corner from the hotel and run every 5 minutes or so. We bought a 48 hour pass from the hotel reception which lasted us the whole trip for just €12, the pass included bus rides aswell. In my opinion, this hotel is perfect for couples and groups of friends looking for somewhere to stay whilst visiting Amsterdam. Great value for money and a great stay!

« Nice hotel and lovely staff »

Very nice hotel, location not to far away from central Amsterdam 25mins ride on the number 21 bus. All staff very helpful and friendly! helped us to work out how to use the bus service, and when booking day trips. rooms nice - however shower needed updating in our room (not a problem though) Would definitely stay again

    « Great Location »

My family and I stayed here for a few nice while touring Amsterdam. They have parking for those who have rental cars, but it is $15 a day. It was worth is since parking in the city is nearly impossible. The hotel was very clean and the lobby was always busy, but the staff were attentive. We had multiple questions about parking and public transit, and they answered everything. We had breakfast at their restaurant one morning and everything was delicious. It is cheaper if you make a reservation in advance. Most European hotels have very small rooms, but this was not. There was more than enough room for three people.

    « Reasonable decent Hotel »

A good decent hotel, the staff were friendly and decently helpfull. The rooms are decent not to big but not to small. The bathroom was very nice i must say its a plus. Futhermore the restaurant is decent dont expect much off it though id go eat outdoors. Or order roomservice (a tad pricey but hey you get something too). The only complaint and its quite a funny one is that three times the fire alarm went off because people were smoking (weed) and hotboxing in their room. This was in the middle of the night so quite annoying. And everyone standing sleepy in the hallways. Annoying but thinking back it was quite funny.

    « Weekend away.. »

Stayed at this hotel, 1st impressions staff are rude and not helpful at all, car park is far and not clear instructions on where it is, the staff do not listen to customer questions, short staffed was waiting a good half an hour before getting checked in, the room itself is very basic, not somewhere I would ever recommend, the bathroom is the only thing which was nice, rest of the room what can I say, the beds were twin beds even though I had booked double bed, the breakfast for 10 euros definitely not worth, another thing the hotel is too far from the centre.

    2
    « 4*hotel...don't think so... »

Before i start this rant let me explain 1st that this is nothing to do with the staff. They are very kind and courtious. This hotel was booked through ice lolly. They assured me that it was 4* hotel. We had stayed in hotel OZO earlier in the year which was a 4* hotel so we knew what standard to expect. This hotel was not of 4* quality. More like 2* to be fair. Our room was a twin double standard. Very small, dated furniture and shabby in need of refurbishment but clean. Unless every other room in the hotel was of 4* quality and ours wasn't...? We booked this hotel as we wanted to be closer to city centre as the hotel Ozo was twice the distance out than blue square. We found that being closer doesn't always mean that you will get into the centre quicker. On this route there where that many stops it took twice the amount of time getting into the city centre than when we stayed at hotel Ozo. We are not snobs but when you pay for 4* you expect 4*. The area surrounding the hotel was very run down and to be honest the only good thing about the hotel that we found to be of 4* quality was the breakfast. If you want somewhere just to crash and sleep then book away otherwise stay clear. Bus 21 gets you into central Amsterdam and bus 69 gets you to airport. €2.90 gets you anywhere for 1hr travel. The hotel charges €17.50 per person for shuttle bus service to the airport. No.69 across the street to airport every 15mins €2.90

« Home away from home in Amsterdam? Maybe »

The hotel itself is very good -- very friendly and professional staff, The rooms are good and the bed confortable. The toilets are modern and clean. The breakfast is excellent and good value for money. The public transport around the hotel is very good and reliable. The wifi works very well. Point to improve - The smoking area is at the entrance to the hotel - everyone throws the cigarette butts on the ground and in the flower beds - it does not look nice at all. Point to note - the hotel is in a muslim/turkish area - so the choice of westernized restaurants/bars close to the hotel is a challenge.

    4
« Not so far out »

This hotel is outside the city centre, which is perfect to get away from the hustle-bustle of the premium priced tourist areas and near to a tram route and shops. The environment is spacious and relaxed and the hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Altogether this is a very reasonably priced hotel and I would definately stay there again

« Not too bad overall »

We weren't to sure at first but I must say we walked away happy. The rooms were a decent size. Close to public transport to get into Amsterdam. Plenty of food nearby and a laundromat. Beds very comfortable and shower head awesome. Not in the best part of town and that took some getting used to. The buffet breakfast was ok (except the 7am start - needs to be earlier). The restaurant wasn't too bad either. Staff friendly. Don't get room 128 though. Doesn't have the extra secure access the others do but it is directly above the entry so you hear the party goers returning or the smokers chatting.

Perfect place to stay easy to get to and trams into the main town run every 15 minutes and easy to navigate around places Staff were lovely helped us with printing our boarding passes off for return journey and held our bags on the last day after we checked out. comfy rooms and shower was great ! around 20 odd minutes away from centre but perfect to break up the day Tram 14 and 7 will take you anywhere you would need to go and bus 69 takes you to and from the airport. Easy peasy Thankyou

    « Very okey hotel »

Hotel is just outside the city centre, but very okey for me as i like walking/exploring. You can take tramway 7 to the centre (also stops at the metro "Burg de Vlughtlaan"). Shops (like a grocery shop) and restaurants are litteraly across the street. Good service, nice room (bit outdated but functional and okey). Beds were a bit short and so are the duvets. Tv receipt also a bit bad, but free wifi.

    « Enjoyable short break »

My friends and I enjoyed a 3 night break at this hotel, we found it very accessible with excellent transport links between the Airport and city centre. The hotel had good amenities and the staff friendly and very helpful, especially house keeping who when I enquired were able to change the pillows for me in a very quick, friendly efficient manner .My only criticism was at breakfast from the second day there was no butter available, I was told by the staff the R restaurant manager had decided to stock margarine instead. In my opinion it was not very pleasant tasting and it is questionable in recent research that margarine oils are not good for cardiac health Also very simply it spoilt the taste of variety of nice breads on offer. I have stayed in a number of Best Western plus hotels in many cities and not had the experience of a hotel not supplying a staple ingredient such as butter. Aside from this the hotel provided an enjoyable stay with a room with a view .

My friends and I enjoyed a 3 day break at this hotel . We found the hotel very accessible for the Airport and City Centre with good transport links. We had a room with a view and it was comfortable with good amenities'. The staff were friendly and helpful especially housekeeping.. My only criticism was from the second morning at breakfast there was no butter available I was informed that the restaurant manager decided to replace margarine for butter, from a personal view I found it an unpleasant taste and I think current research findings are that butter is better for cardiac health, it also spoilt the taste of the variety of breads that was on offer. This was a comment made by a number of people in the dining room on these mornings, they to found the cheap margarine very unpleasant and spoilt their breakfast. I have stayed in a number of Best Western Hotels in cities around the world and never came across this practice. Butter seems such a staple ingredient to be available in a hotel. Thankfully there are a number of supermarkets in locality to offer a choice. Aside from this issue it was a very pleasant stay and offered good value for money

Lovely, clean hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, extremely quiet at night. Only 20 minutes to city centre by bus. Only downside was that the bar was closed for renovations and no bar In the immediate area. You can buy a cheap bus ticket from the hotel depending on the number of days you are staying and also tickets for local attractions

« Lovely hotel in not so lovely area »

Best Western Blue Square Hotel could not be faulted, excellent hotel, clean, tidy, helpful staff. Breakfast was really good, usual choice in European hotels! Evening meal was not so fantastic, only a couple of people in the dining room each night - which should have been a clue. Although we did find an extremely good Turkish restraunt around the corner, Unfortunately the area itself was not so fabulous, it seemed a strange place to have such a nice hotel. The bus into the city centre took about half an hour, mainly as there were so many stops! Hotel was reasonably priced too, so cant have it all ways!!

    « Overall a very good hotel »

Friendly staff but please be mindful to book your place early if you want to have an in house evening dinner. Good transport links to Amsterdam central. I booked for sightseeing tickets but the staff unfortunately booked the wrong ones. Please ensure you check before you head off.

    « Would recommend! »

Overall I was happy with our stay. The main positives about this hotel are: Friendly staff was very helpful upon arrival pointing out the main information for Amsterdam and the travel times. Tram and bus stops are just outside the hotel to get to/from Amsterdam centre & the airport. The room service is good and was carried out every day without fail! Nice bathroom with quality beds. UK TV channels. Downsides- The breakfast menu was the same every day and was nothing spectacular, but for the small price we paid it is worth the convenience of avoiding getting it ourselves. If your room is at the front of the building there is quiet a bit of noise projected from the street itself- especially in the morning with the sound of the trams and people. Would recommend and was happy with the price we paid!

    « Nice hotel. Recommend. »

Had a lovely stay with my partner for 3 nights. Stayed in bottom floor room facing the roads. Was a bit noisy but nothing too extreme. Only bad thing is its in the middle of residential area and sometimes felt like some locals were intimidating. Apart from that had a perfect stay and will be returning

« Great hotel with excellent transport »

Stayed here for a 2 day break. The room was very nice and clean. It had everything that we needed for our stay. We did not have breakfast as we chose to go out. The location was brilliant as there was access to buses and the tram right out the front of the hotel. We caught the Number 69 bus from the airport to the hotel and then the tram into the town. We arrived early in the morning and we got into our room straight away. The room had tea and coffee facilities, but no milk. We found some small sachets in one of the supermarkets and this did. There were a number of restaurants near the hotel which sounded very nice and are open late in the evening.

« Nice hotel - Would stay again »

We stayed here for 3 night in April 2016. We chose this hotel mainly for its excellent rate and location. The hotel was very clean. The staffs were very nice, polite and helpful. 2 bus and tramp stops are few steps from the hotel. Bus #69 right in front will take you directly from/to Schiphol airport (about 30 minutes), you do not need to transfer to any other bus, and they are not crowded at all. Other buses and tramps will take you to city center. Super markets, restaurants are right across from the street and behind the hotel. Highly recommend this hotel.

    « Would stay again! »

I stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group, and think this was the nicest hotel of the tour. Rooms were well appointed, with marble bathrooms and modern furnishings. Breakfast was comprehensive with a selection of hot and cold foods. Location was perfect. Tram stop right outside the hotel which took about 10 minutes to get to the city centre. Nice neighbourhood with a beautiful fruit market on the other side of the road.

« Couple: Travelled in the Easter Holidays »

This hotel was perfect for me and my boyfriend when we wanted a couple days away to see the city of Amsterdam. It said check in was at 14:00pm but when we got there around 10:00am they said it was fine for us to go up to our room straight away. When I booked it I was told only a twin room was available but made a special request to have a double room with a canal view that was high up (all of these requests were fulfilled which was really good). The room provides a hairdryer, small bottles of body wash, shampoo and body lotion, a safe, a TV, a kettle with tea/coffee etc but no milk and obviously Towels. When you check in the hotel provides you with a map, a book of things to do and a list of trams and buses that take you to various locations. Tram into central station (which also takes you to dam square when you walk up the road from the station) is bus number 21 that comes past regularly. This is the main bus we used as within the area of dam square is all the main tourist places that we went to such as Amsterdam Dungeons, Madame Tussaud's, Sex museum, FREE walking tour meeting place and the red light district tour meeting place. All of these attractions are ones I highly recommend going to as all are really good and I have no complaints! We also went on a pizza cruise which was really good with unlimited drink included for the duration! Tram number 7 takes you to a square beginning with L that I can't remember the name of but that's where all the night life is such as pubs, clubs and bars. We went to a Jazz club there called Jazz Alto which is hidden away but you can get directions to which was really good, particularly on the Tuesday night so I highly recommend if you are into Jazz music such as myself. You can do a lot of tourist stuff in one day and can buy the tickets from tourist places which saves you queuing, HOWEVER, if you wish to go to the Anne Frank House BOOK ONLINE BEFORE YOU GO TO AMSTERDAM AND WELL IN ADVANCE! Otherwise you'll be queuing for about 3/4 hours. I booked he Anne Frank tickets in November and we were going in the March and there was still hardly any left then. The tram/bus rides into the square take about 20mins but you don't notice it being long and it doesn't affect your day. Buy a travel ticket from the central station, we got one for 3days and it was about €20 which was worth it, you must check in when you get on the bus/tram and check out again when you get off! When you land get bus 69 from the airport to the stop called Plein 40-45 and that's your stop for the hotel, you get the same 69 bus when you go back to the airport as well and if your flight is quite early like ours was you can ask for a takeaway breakfast from the hotel which is very nice. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask me as I should have the answer.

    « Just lovely!! »

My partner and I have just got back from a stay here. The staff were so friendly and lovely. The breakfast was nice too. I found a some previous reviews on here really useful for travel, one specifically was- ringpiece Essex- thank you. It was really easy to reach the centre from the hotel. The city itself is truly amazing and i would definitely return to both the city and the hotel. Thanks for contributing so positively to an amazing experience.

    « Great room with a view »

Me and my partner are a young couple and really enjoyed our stay at the blue square. Beds were really comfy and our room came with lots of little extras. Perfect view from our room and breakfast was nice. Was able to print boarding passes from reception. Rooms cleaned and towels changed every day. An overall pleasant stay and coffeeshops in town were good too. ??????

    « Nice stay »

Rooms were good size, listened to our booking notes that you can put in when booking the rooms. Helpful front desk staff, about 15-20 mins from the center but this is fine as there are many bus and tram links close to the hotel. Also not that far from the airport, would stay here again for the price I got it at.

    « Great stay »

We got a great deal on this hotel, and it was much better than I had expected. The rooms were nice and large, and the staff were very helpful with information on getting around the city. There seemed to be a few travel groups staying at the same time, but that wasn't a bad thing as there was always movement around the hotel and it wasn't empty. There was also a vending machine in the lobby for midnight snacks and the tram line is only a 2 minute walk away

    4
    « Better that expected »

We got an AMAZING deal for this hotel so i assumed that it wasn't very good, on the outside its quite ugly, but in the inside very nice and standard 4 stars hotel, clean and big rooms, no restaurant or bar which was a boomer BUT for the price it was EXCELLENT.

« Lovely hotel for a short break! »

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel on a really good deal for 2 nights. We got to this hotel by taxi as was unsure of the busses or trams running near the hotel but it is easy to get to and from the airport on a number 69 bus the bus stop is right outside. We checked in about 11 o'clock and was able to check our bags into a holding area, the staff were really friendly and helpful giving us maps and information on how to get into the city centre. To get into the centre there is a tram stop when you turn right out of the hotel and at the top of the road near some traffic lights we had to stop and ask some people and the local people are also really helpful and friendly. It's about a 20-25 min tram ride into the town and you can buy travel cards for 24 hours for €7.50. We didn't eat at the hotel but there is plenty around to go and get some food such as bakeries and a convenient shop. The hotel room was lovely and spacious when we checked in, the bathroom was lovely with a big shower and light up mirror, the bed was very comfy but would ask for more pillows if you sleep with more than 1 and the room was changed daily. Had a very enjoyable pleasant stay here would defiantly recommend to anyone going to Amsterdam.

Just outside of main city centre with easy access into town. Very friendly staff who were helpful. Rooms were spacious and clean. Would stay again. Ate out in near restaurants. No bar at hotel which was a disappointment, but was not a major issue.

    « Great hotel! »

We weren't sure how this hotel was going to be, we got a great deal on it so we didn't think it would be that good. Although the external appearance isn't very pleasant, the staff are lovely and helpful (charged our phones for us when we didn't have an adapter), the room is large and clean with a kettle and tea and coffee. The bathroom was wonderful! Lovely and big with a bath and shower and so clean! We were on the ground floor and had a view of the water. The locals weren't the friendliest but there is a bakery just up the road (two minutes walking) which sells fresh pastries for cheap which we found were perfect for breakfast. The tram stop into the centre is just at the top of the road (not even 5 minutes walking) and takes about 20/25 minutes. It's so easy to get into town and to the airport from the area. Could not recommend this hotel enough (The photos are just before we left so the bathroom is not as tidy as when we found it)

« Not Ideal for Smokers »

We booked this hotel at the location was good getting back to the airport but found it too far from everything else and the trams can become highly confusing. The hotel staff were friendly but we mainly kept ourselves to outsells the main down point was having to stand on the street in the cold to smoke, we use cannabis medicinally for pain so need to be able to relax so I don't recommend the hotel for smokers although it's very close to a cafe and we'd picked up in minutes we had to smoke standing outside. We have Airbnb booked for our next trip where none of this will be an issue and we'll be ideally located in the city centre. Hotels are not a good option for smokers unless you payout for a nice hotel with a balcony.

« Amsterdam = Best Place on Earth »

My partner and I stayed at best Western Blue Square hotel at the beginning of March 2016. Arrival: Like any hotel in European cities, check in a at 14:00. Admittedly, the hotel isn't much to look at on the outside, but nonetheless don't be fooled as the interior is awesome! Check in was quick and easy. Room: Good sized room, super comfy bed, walk-in shower with a huge shower head and modern decor! Really couldn't fault this room at all. However the room did have a dendency to spin, but I think they may be down to the cannabis use. Staff: Awesome staff, very friendly people who cannot do enough for you and will point you in the right direction wherever you want to go Amsterdam overall: Best city I've ever been to, everyone is so friendly and the architecture is beautiful. Would go back in a heartbeat and would even go as far as to say I'd choose this over a summer holiday. To sum up: Go Amsterdam, it will be the best thing you do without a shadow of a doubt!!

    « Tiny room »

Got a really good deal here for €50/night. Thought I had a great deal for a 4 star hotel. Firstly, not a 4 star hotel. Probably a 3 but if I was being harsh a 2 star. Main reson was the room. Not sure if the other rooms are the same but I have never seen anything like it and I have travelled a lot. Room 1, don't take it if they give it to you. There are two beds in the room but then are placed length ways, as in tandem. There is a wardrobe placed between them so you can't see you partner at all! The room is that narrow. Tiny bthroom and toilet. As soon as we walked in we walked out asking for another room. We were informed that the hotel was 'fully booked' yet I could book another room online easily not. So clearly there was another room available. So basically lied to. It's a long way out from town but well serviced by trams and busses. On the plus the breakfast was OK, staff at the breakfast were great. Wifi was free and relatively fast. Wouldn't stay here again.

« Average Hotel outside the city centre. »

We booked this Hotel because they had a deal, where they offered free parking, and it was a 4 star hotel. Its located about 30min from the city centre if you take the city train. The tickets you can buy in the reception for 7,5 euro = 24 hours. First of all I dont think its 4 star... I would say 3 star. But it was good and clean. The rooms was of a good size, and it all worked well. Some places you could see that it was a little used. The pillows in the rooms are very big, and not good for sleeping. The bed itself was okay. The hotel offer free wifi, and there is a good coverage in the rooms as well. I love eggs and bacon at the breakfast, and the selection was very good. All sorts of bread, cerials, fruit, sursages and so on. All in all I think this was a good stay, and I would maybe go back, if I could get a good deal again.

    « Warm and friendly »

Great hotel for couples on a short break. About 20 mins from the airport on the 69 bus from bus-stand 15b. Purchased a 72 hour travel ticket from the rail office at the airport, was €25 pp and covers rail/bus/trams around the city. Central Amsterdam is another 20 mins from the hotel on the regular trams/buses that run nearby. Numbers 7 & 14 trams and 21 bus will take you there. The hotel staff were polite and helpful and gave us a quiet room on the ground floor and filled us in on everything we needed to know. The room was clean, comfortable and maids cleaned daily. We had breakfast included which was good and had plenty of variety. Very happy with this hotel for the price that we paid and would recommend.

    « Good hotel »

This is a good hotel, it is very clean, the room was nice it had flat screen tv, free wifi, coffee and tea making facilities with a good assortment of teas and coffee available, no fridge or safe. The bathroom was a little small but a very good power shower and good size shower stall. There were plenty of bathroom accessories shower gels and a good hairdryer. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. We did not eat at the hotel preferring to eat in Amsterdam central, where there is more choice. The hotel is about 20 minutes from Amsterdam centre, but the number 14 tram stops almost outside hotel and is a very good and quick service. The outside of the hotel is not impressive it looks like a blue metal box, and it usually has smokers hanging around the entrance. Inside is better. I found it comfortable, and it had everything we needed.

    « Excellent find »

The hotel was ideally situated for travelling to and from the airport and for Amsterdam with trams and bus stops a 5 min walk away. Our room was very quiet, comfortable except I had wanted a double bed and was give two twin beds pushed together, this was despite making the request 3 months ago. The room was comfortable, warm, and cleaned excellently. Staff helpful at all times.

« Awful service, Don't waste your time or money! »

I stayed at this hotel for spring break this past week for a school trip and I must say I was extremely disappointed. First, the staff was incredibly rude when approached about any questions. I went down to the front desk to get change for a water out of their vending machine that only takes 'exact change' and all I recieved were dirty looks and snippy comments. Second, the maid service was awful. The sheets were not changed in our room for the whole 8 days we were there, which in my opinion is disgusting. I had friends in a different room who hadn't seen maid service in 3 days and when they approached the desk they were told their 'do not disturb' sign was on their door which it wasn't. Third, the general location of the hotel is beyond scary, to the extent of getting harassed on the tram outside the hotel. Also, free high speed wifi is advertised, it may be free but it's definately not high speed, if it works at all. From the rude staff to the cleanliness of this hotel like I said I was extremely disappointed, especially with a Best Western. Let's put it this way, don't waste your money.

    « Fantastic budget hotel! »

Best Western was the cheapest hotel on offer, which we were wary of but were only staying one night so didnt think too much of it. The hotel was far better than I was expecting for the price! Everything you could need was included in the room, wifi was good and the beds were comfortabl Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and e. We even had quite a poesant view! The hotel is also an easy, inexpensive journey from the centre by tram line 13 or 14 - we got off at Slotermeerlaan and took the two min walk up. Definately recommended if you are on a budget!

    « Short city break »

Comfortable hotel, but got very cold, air con heating not up to much, had to get reception to increase heat, not much difference. Trams no 14 outside to/from the Dam or 13 at end of street to/ from central station. Asked for a fridge for my medication, was advised not guaranteed but when got to room one provided. Few supermarkets close by and some fast food outlets.

« Don't be put off by the outside »

Stayed here for 3 nights last week. When we arrived by taxi we were very worried about the area but we needn't have been. Although a bit run down from the outside, the interior is modern and comfortable. The no 14 tram into Amsterdam (about 20 minutes) is about 300 yards away and the no 69 bus back to the airport is about 100 yards in the opposite direction. A 7.50 euro ticket for a 24 hour period, starting when you first swipe the card, is great value for money. The restaurant did not look inviting for an evening meal so we wandered around the area and found the Ada Restaurant. to the right when you come out of the doors and round the back. Its a Turkish restaurant and sits at the side of a canal/quay and the food was not only excellent, but very reasonably priced. We ate breakfast out too - another lovely Turkish cafe/patisserie on the opposite side almost at the T junction where you catch the tram. Excellent cold and hot buffet breakfast for 10 euros. Absolutely amazing choice. Spotlessly clean and modern. Mostly catering for the Turkish palate, there was plenty of choice for the British palate: cheeses, hams, fresh fruit, nuts, tea, bread - but be adventurous and try something different. Would we stay there again. Probably not but only because of the location and the 20 minute tram each way. We would probably look for something in Amsterdam City. However, for the price, this was an ideal hotel and offered all we needed.

    « HORRIBLE-DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY »

Recently stayed here for Spring Break. It was terrible. The ladies at reception desk are rude + would not give me change for cash, when you can only use change to get water!!! My room was not made for 3 days, they said I had "Do not Disturb" sign on door (which I did NOT). Garbage was over flowing, bed not made, no toilet paper, no towels for the shower. No fridge + microwave in the room and WIFI was terrible. Was out for days, this was how we all talked to our parents. We called and went to front desk ro get towels and we still never recieved them. Said the maids were gone and I saw one on my floor so I had to ask them for some but yet they can't change the sheets and clean my room. I'm living in filth for the past 3 days. The location is terrible, about 30-45 minute tram ride to the "Square" which is unreal, try doing that at night when it's just all 20 year old girls. Nothing is near the hotel at all, it is not safe to walk by yourself to the tram station. It says its $50 a night, would be better to stay at a motel than here. Very, very disappointed all week on my Spring break. Horrible + disgusting. I will NEVER be back to a Best Western.

Just came home from a trip in Amsterdam and stayed at this hotel it was lovely. Beds were made every day and fresh towels daily, helpful staff, 30 minutes ride in the tram to central city didn't bother me at all they came every 10 minutes or so. Very friendly staff.

A good quality budget hotel. Beds where comfortable that is very important to me. Reception desk staff are very helpful. 30 minute bus ride to the centre of Amsterdam. Over all not bad. Didn't have any food there so couldn't comment on this. Airport is also a bus ride 40 minutes you can buy a travel ticket from the airport that allows you to travel on buses and trams for £17 euro for three days.

    « Amsterdam weekend »

Stayed here with a group of 17 for 3 nights. Great hotel, nice rooms and good value buffet breakfast you can prebook the day before for €10. Location is a little far out but didnt bother us at all, the tram link and bus links into the centre are really close by and a 24 hr travel ticket was only €7.50. Some of our party sometimes got taxi's back to the hotel and was usually around €25 from the centre, but split between 5 was cheap enough. Some local bars and couple of restaurants opposite the hotel, kebab shop and fried chicken close by.

    « Below average »

Really dissapointed in this hotel regardless of the helpful reception and acceptable breakfast, everything else is terribly wrong the hotel smells really it has a strange smell in all the corridors; strange sounds from the elevator; everytime we go out with the car we go to the reception once or twice to give us the ticket which still may not work. Although i had much better experiences with best western this one is really below standards 4 stars is obviously over rating this hotel.

    « Great stay! »

We had an amazing time in Amsterdam and this hotel was perfect for our needs. We were able to put some food in their fridge (accessible 24/7), the room was always spotless and we had a bathtub with a showerhead. The hotel is right next to two bus stations and a tram station as well as a supermarket and a bakery. There's a coffee shop a few tram stops away (if you're a smoker, you should know it is strictly forbidden to smoke cigarettes or weed in the hotel and no weed in front of it). Centraal Station is 25min away by tram or bus, it's a bit far but it's worth the ride! If you're coming as a couple, make sure you request a king sized bed, because we got two single beds.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here for 3 nights with my partner and cannot fault the hotel. The hotel is a little way out of the centre.. About 15/20 mins by tram. Our room was lovely, the bed was big and extremely comfortable!!! Our shower was the best part of the room, the shower cubicle was huge and the shower itself was extremely powerful. All the staff were helpful, they happily kept our bags for us before and after check in/out so that we could continue sight seeing. The reception give you maps and explain how to access areas. If you don't mind staying slightly out of the centre then this hotel is perfect. As other reviews have said, there are super markets and bars/cafes right outside. We had a lovely view of a lake from our room, cannot fault the staff or hotel.

    « Pleasant stay »

The hotel is a bit out but there is enough transport not to worry, even though most people use bikes! The twin rooms are a bit of an odd set up compared to other hotels but it works, you get more floor space! The staff were pleasant and the food was fine.

    « Would definitely recommend »

Hotel is easily accessible from the airport via the 69 bus and is also well served by trams into the centre of Amsterdam. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very big and clean if a little dated in decor, beds were very comfortable. Although we were near the road the double glazing worked well and we heard no sound of traffic etc. Power shower was excellent but the bath took too long to pour. Breakfast was an extra 10 euro if booked in advance. Whilst the breakfast wasn't to my taste it was handy to be able to pop down to breakfast. There is a lovely little supermarket literally about 4 mins walk away from the hotel so should you wish to self-cater then that wouldn't be a problem. The food in the Bistro on an evening was fine but nothing to write home about and perhaps a little expensive for what you got, but the waiter was lovely and helpful. There are a parade of restaurants and bistro's on the other side of the road which means you have plenty of choice for eating out within walking distance of the hotel should you wish to do so.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel was very clean throughout and nicely decorated. The staff were pleasant, helpful and polite. On arrival I requested a double room with a bath and the receptionist went to a lot of trouble to locate a room with a double bed and a bath, which was very kind. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. We had absolutely everything we needed. It's in a good location as a 2 minute walk to a supermarket, off licence and various restaurants, cafes and bars. The tram stop to the airport and the city centre was a 5 minute walk away. All perfect and we would highly recommend people to stay here and we would definitely stay here again.

Just got back today was in room 30 on the ground floor don't have this room there is a door that opens into the corridor where all the rooms are and it slams shut every time someone comes in was kept up all night with people coming and going and woken up at 5:30 am this morning when people where leaving. there's no bar only a vending machine €2.50 for a bottle of water definitely not a four star hotel. Would not stay here again would spend a bit more and be nearer the centre

    « Lovely hotel a bit out... »

This hotel is lovely, rooms are great and very comfortable and we were lucky enough to have a beautiful canal view from our room. It's in a quiet area but about a 20 minute tram ride from the centre which is fine and very easy but can be a bit of an annoyance if you wanted to go back to freshen up. The trams run until late but if your out really late (me and my fiend were on a pub crawl until 5am one morning) there's night buses running from the train station, and even though passes run out at 4am our driver allowed us in for free. The breakfast at the hotel is passable. This hotel is extremely cheap but well presented and would be ideal for those who wanted to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

    « Lovely. »

This hotel is lovely. It's set from a 15 minutes tram into dam square. Which is good if you don't to be in the middle of everything as it can get very busy. The hotel it's self is a very nice and friendly hotel. Everyone is always around to help. The rooms are very clean and tidy. The beds are sooooo comfortable. I never wanted to get up. I'd just say it's a bit pricey for food in the hotel. we never had anything too eat. So can't comment. And the bar wasn't open any of the nights we were there. Which is a shame. Would definitely recommend this hotel! And will be coming back myself! P.s I would definitely recommend eatting over the road in the Toetanchamon. Beautiful food.

« Much better than expected »

Don't judge this hotel on its first appearance. The inside of the hotel is lovely and well presented. The rooms are quite basic, though perfect for somewhere to stay when on a busy holiday. The room had a maid service everyday with fresh towels. It also has a free safe and free wifi (which I had no problems connecting to). Lovely big shower but the bathroom is a bit small but clean. The hotels breakfast was lovely. Plenty of choice from a full English, fresh breads, meats, pastries and cereals. I would advise not to eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening though as the food wasn't that great and quite expensive. The hotel is about 20/25 minutes away from the central station. You need to get the number 21 bus to get to the hotel. We asked the bus driver to tell us when to get off and he nicely did. The number 14 tram is right outside the hotel which will take you to Dam central. Make sure you get a travel card they are either 24hr, 48hr or 73hr and will save you lots of money.

    « Excellent Hotel »

I've stayed here during a city break organised by ARCADIA TRAVEL agency from Romania. The hotel is situated near Tram station and also bus station. Has 4 ****, the rooms ar very clean and big. The breakfast is buffet. The personell of the hotel is very kind and multilingual. I recommend it for city breaks, and also for business trip.

    « Comfortable! »

My husband and I booked this hotel for our mini moon (3 nights) in November. We had a very good rate and honestly we were not expecting very much at all! However, the bus from the airport dropped us literally down the road from the hotel. Also the tram to the city is very very close too! The hotel is located approx half way between the airport and the city centre so a brilliant commute. When approaching the hotel I was terrified of what would be waiting for us inside but once we were in, it was surprisingly comfortable! From the outside it looks like a big storage container and lots of smokers on the door-step. Once we were through the doors we felt very safe and comfy. Our room was nice and big, the bathroom a little on the small side, but for two of us - just right. Particularly as we didn't spend very much time in there. The staff at reception were friendly and helped us with directions. Also make sure you pick up the little vouchers in the foyer! We used loads for freebies during our stay - like drinks / souvenirs / discounts. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as it was an extra €10 per person, but there are a number of small mini super markets about which sell pastries, waffles, orange juice etc which we took back to the room, saving a us a small fortune. We will definitely return to this hotel in the near future, but will visit in summer as opposed to winter next time! I would absolutely recommend it, if you find a special offer :)

« Bad first (and most probably last) experience »

We booked this hotel on a deal in the hope of being away from the crowded and noisy central area. Even with my best intention I would not say this is a 4 star quality hotel. I was happy with the check in thanks to the lovely lady with curly hair at the reception desk , with the cleanliness of the room, even the breakfast was fine, but you can get this in a Holiday Inn Express 3* hotel too. On our first morning we received a weird wake-up call, when we went to ask the receptionists, who called and why, there were a young man and a young lady. I addressed the man but the lady rushed over to take over the conversation from the man saying nobody called our room and when my husband pointed out that it was a man with Dutch accent then again she said it could have been another guest. As we walked away, the guy at the reception started giggling loudly with the receptionist girl, seemingly about us. And as we turned around to tell them that this is not funny (we pay to have a restful stay), she said they were not laughing about us, of course. Very disappointed with customer service.

    « Weekend break »

My wife an I booked to stay here over the Valentines weekend 2016 from Friday to Monday. The hotel itself is located approximately 20-30 minutes by tram on the western side of the city centre. On arrival my only disappointment was right outside the hotel the cigarette ends all over the the steps and either side it was a bit filthy if I'm honest. The room itself was very clean an comfortable and no complaints with the cleanliness. We were in room no.50 which if you get when booking can be difficult to sleep if you're a light sleeper. Unfortunately the weekend we stayed we had other people not far from us who had no consideration for others at night time when returning from a night out, shouting & banging doors and because of the location of "room 50 " you can hear everything even the piped music from the hotel. The breakfast is about € 10 Euros and to be fair pretty good value for both hot an cold options with plenty to chose from. The tram /bus stop is a few minutes walk from the hotel an they run every 15 minutes into the City well recommended an easy to use. Just a note if you are staying at this hotel I would suggest purchasing a travel ticket at GWK within Schipol Airport. I think for 72 hours it was € 17 Euro per person which includes the bus ( stand B 15 ...bus 69 which is right outside an stops not far from the hotel..brilliant ) and the use of the trams as many times as you like during the 72 hours, considering a taxi to the hotel is around € 40 euros. ..One way ...!!!! When using the tram circuit not far from the hotel to the city centre we always used no.14 there an back. Plenty of trips to do an experience like the Anne Frank house..advice pre book this online in advance to jump to the front of the queue as there is a separate door for those who pre book,or as we noticed ever day the long queues with people standing in the cold an rain for more than an hour at least. A special mention goes to Cynthia at reception who is very pleasant and was very helpful to me with information and organising a surprise for my wife's birthday. This lady is a credit to the hotel for her professionalism an politeness at all times during our stay ( as well as the rest of the staff ) but as Cynthia dealt with me on a few occasions she deserves a special mention...Thank you for all your help.

    « Good stay overall »

This hotel is lovely. The room has all that you could need. It was comfortable and had a nice shower which is rare in hotels. The only thing I would say is the customer service could be a bit better. Me and my friend were left standing waiting for the staff to stop their conversation before letting us check in. As it was late we were really tired and keen to get to bed. Having said this, the gentleman on reception helped us order some food so they did help in other areas. I would come back!

« Excellent value for money »

I actually booked this hotel by mistake having previously stated at the Best Western Blue Tower Hotel. Whilst this hotel is slightly further away from the city centre, it was still only a 20 minute tram or bus ride away. Since these passes can be bought for about €20 for 4 days, it really wasn't an issue. The rooms are very clean and well equipped. We really only used the rooms as a base to shower and sleep, but for this purpose it was exceptional. The rooms were very comfortable and there were no issues with noise etc. There is a TV, hair dryer and mini toiletries provided, as well as a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a little supermarket located a few minutes walk away, opposite the tram/bus stop, which is cheap and has a good selection on food and snacks. It even had a gluten free section which was unexpected! Overall, excellent value for money and would thoroughly recommend if you don't mind hopping on public transport to get around.

    « BW Platinium »

good hotel, but parking cost is not fair for hotel guests. So expensive and difficult to reach. No mini bar in room. Breakfast is fine. returning from a city visit, we found our room not cleaned and reset for the next night. After complaining to the cleaning staff, we discovered that no instruction was given by the reception staff ...indeed, most probably a language issue as they are not using the same language.

    « Very surprising! »

Stayed here a couple of weeks ago and I was honestly surprised by it! The photos on here really don't do this place justice! The rooms are spacious and lovely big double beds, tea and coffee were refilled everyday( we did buy our own milk as they provided powdered) everything was clean, staff were so friendly and helpful! When arriving to Amsterdam, get the bus 69 (stop B15) and it stops a little before the hotel, which is handy! Trams to the centre is 14, they were a little confusing at first but soon got the hang of it, we bought a 72 hour travel card which cost 17 euros from a fast food place just up the road from the hotel called febo :) everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help if you get lost! Defintely recommend this hotel and their breakfast :)

    « Good clean hotel »

Easy to get to from the airport, get bus 69 from B15 outside and get off at the Lod. v. Deysselstraat stop. The hotel is very ugly from the outside but lovely inside, we had a large comfortable room that was very clean, only negatives was the towels were old and thin, could definitely do with being replaced! The breakfast was ok but there was only tinned fruit (how easy is it to chop some fresh fruit) and the bacon was very overcooked. On the last morning they had run out of pain au raisin and pain au chocolate 2 hours before breakfast finished and the croissants were definitely from the day before and not pleasant at all. All the restaurants near the hotel are Turkish and a little odd, also note that most do not serve alcohol so it's worth eating in town before you come back to the hotel for the day - especially as it is a 20 min ride on the tram each way so we could not be bothered to come back to shower and change then go back into town again for dinner. If I came to Amsterdam again I would stay nearer the centre.

    « Nice clean hotel »

Good hotel. On the outskirts of the city..Rooms very clean and staff very friendly and very helpful..non smoking hotel ..Number 14 Tram stop near by that takes you into Amsterdam..Would stay here again.we were very pleased ..

« Clean, easy and polite! »

I had very low expectations for this hotel because we had got it on a very cheap deal however, it was lovely!!! Staff are so nice and helpful. It was dead easy getting into the centre with the trams and buses and back to the airport! It was so cold in January but the room was lovely warm and cosy. The shower was soon nice too! After a long day walking around it was so lovely to get back, have a hot shower and a fruit tea (tea in the room) and get into a fresh bed. We paid for breakfast every morning and it was nice. They had everything you would expect. I loved my trip to Amsterdam and the hotel always makes a huge difference.

    « great hotel »

stayed here summer 2015.....great place....great room..friendly people....close to public transport.....we got room for 4 ppl.....as we traveled with 2 kids....the room was huge....4 single beds.....tons of coffees and teas in the room...bathroom was nice with bathtub....the most important thing ..the property is super clean. Tram to the city is just outside of the hotel...as well as to the airport. tons of mid eastern bakery....and restaurants around the hotel. there is also small mall on the next block from the hotel...make it easier to shop in the outskirt of Amsterdam. would love to stay here again next time we come to Ams

« 20 minute commute to Dam gets dull, ok room, eat elsewhere »

Getting here from the airport is easy on the bus, and cheap. Buy your bus/tram pass from the newsagents kiosk in the arrivals hall, we got them for 4 days at 21 euros. Go outside to B15 and bus 69 will take you to Pleine 40 - 45, a two minute walk to the hotel. 9292.nl works out the public transport links in English with maps if you want to get orientated. We were upgraded to a comfort room for free, it was clean, spacious and comfortable. The only odd thing was the rattling noise from some framing outside the window frames because it was windy. The staff were always patient , courteous and helpful. The breakfast was10 Euro, if pre ordered at reception, the problem was that the hot food had been wrongly over cooked in the oven. The bacon was really fatty and chewy, almost inedible. I wonder if this is because the staff do not understand how to cook the food. It was bad enough to make us avoid the evening meal there. The local Turkish restaurants are really good, and reasonably priced. We found out too late they do an all you can eat breakfast for 10 euro. They sell takeaway Batclava, syrup/honey soaked pastries, sounds gross but awesome.... The local area is dull, with an excess of 1970s architecture that might have seemed like a good idea then. On the plus side there is a handy 6-7km running circuit around the lake about 5 minutes walk away, "Sloter" park? look on google maps or your sat nav to find it. I would not stay here again because of the long tram ride to town, it's doable, but a pain. Trams 14 and 7 stop here. Oh and remember to check in when getting on board and don't forget to check out, or bad things happen!

« Will stay here again. »

The kids and I went in 2014 just before Xmas for a week away. This was brilliant the bus takes you from the airport to the front door of the hotel. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The tram is 5 min away that will take you to Dam square. Next to the hotel is a shopping centre and market. A restaurant that does the most tasteful food from Turkey. Our room at the hotel was clean and comfortable. Plenty to choose from at the breakfast table. We had dinner at the hotel a few times, and recommend this. We were sad to leave.

« Group booking for 9 ladies in 3 rooms »

I organised a group booking and we all stayed at this hotel. I have to say the outside of the building put me off but once inside the rooms are lovely. Very clean, beds made daily and room cleaned. Lovely furniture and fitting. We shared in triple rooms. Our part consisted of 9 ladies ages ranging from 17 to early 50's. It is a little way from the city but public transport in the form auf busses and trams are 5minute walks away and arrive every 10 minutes. Bars, restaurants, bakeries and supermarkets flank the main roads so everything is to hand. I would recommend this hotel and their very friendly staff who made our stay an absolute pleasure.

« Lovely stay with excellent transport links »

Myself and a friend stayed here for a long weekend. Blue Square is a lovely hotel around 20 minutes outside of central Amsterdam. The bus 69 takes you directly from the airport and you can use any GVB passes on this. Journey around 30 minutes. We checked in by a lovely receptionist who was welcoming and gave us maps/information on tram/bus numbers and the stops. Great as it was our first trip to AMS. Hotel itself is lovely with everything you need in the room including toiletries/tea coffee facilities. Room cleaned daily. Lots of little bakeries, shops, markets around the hotel which were nice. Located in a small residential area. I would definitely stay here again, if one thing, the location is a nuisance as it is far out (around 20-30 min journey) but supported by excellent and frequent transport to central/Dam Square including a night bus. Tram 7/14 and bus 21/ nightbus 752.

« Comfortable but lots of traffic noise »

This hotel is a way out of town but very close to public transport to get to town. Right beside a shopping mall so handy for any shopping requirements. Reception staff were lovely and quite helpful. The rooms (for 4) were lovely and well thought out except that they forgot to factor in that 4 people generally means 4 bags as well. Not much room for the baggage. But otherwise quite comfortable. Rooms had beautiful old mahogany furniture, very nice bathroom and quite large shower. One one window in the room opened but couldn't use due to the furniture in the way. Breakfast was not very appealing but dinners in the restaurant were lovely. two lifts but they were old and very noisy.

    « Bday trip »

Loved the room, but sadly one night coming back from the centre the machines were not working for a snack, we went bed hungry, this hotel is a little way out from the centre about 20 euros which was bother to us, as we was out every night, I would advise people if coming for night life go on a Thursday till sunday we went on a Monday , the clubs were still busy but not to my liking

« Great hotel, would stay again! »

I booked this hotel for myself and a friend for her 21st birthday. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on our first visit to Amsterdam! The beds were super comfortable, rooms were very spacious with their own room temperature control, staff were all really lovely and helpful. The location was good also as it was 40€ in a taxi from the airport, and there was also a tram stop just a minutes walk from the front door which was about a 15minute journey to Dam Square for 2.90€. The breakfast in the hotel was great also with a wide selection of hot and cold food. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone looking to go to Amsterdam, I will be returning hopefully in the near future.

« Comfortable, quiet and easy to get to the center of town »

« Perfect hotel for a short stay »

I stayed in the blue square at the beginning of January with my girlfriend. I'd booked a while in advance and got a really good rate - I then upgraded the week before to a 'comfort room' - totally recommend doing this. Well worth the €10 extra per night. As it was my girlfriend's birthday I also asked for some extras and when we arrived we had an amazing room with an amazing view over the canal and there were decorations, a fresh cake, beautiful flowers, and a birthday card waiting! It was fab! The hotel is far enough out of the centre that it is nice and quiet - although saying that there are enough places to go for food/drinks around the hotel if you don't want to be quiet! The travel is really easy so don't worry about that, there's a tram stop just up from the hotel and the number 14 tram will take you straight to Dam Square. Takes about 15 mins and it's a nice trip! You can get your travel passes from the hotel if you didn't get them at the airport train station, they're a good price and dead easy to use (even when drunk) I think some people who've written reviews were expecting 5* luxury which is bizarre when they haven't paid for 5* luxury...the hotel is great, rooms are big and clean, staff are really friendly and helpful (even when drunk). The bar is shut at the moment but there's bars around and there's a shop over the road - I recommend Oblomov vodka if you don't wanna remember your evening....! The restaurant is nice enough, brekky wasn't amazing but it was alright. The evening meal (we ate there once) was very good. There's a Turkish restaurant over the road that was very nice indeed. There's also a take out - we stumbled there on the oblomov night - that was good (I think). We are a lesbian couple and everything was really gay friendly - the whole city is. We had a fantastic stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay in this hotel again. It's a good choice. Everyone in Amsterdam cycles so there's loads more bikes on the road than cars so beware of the bike lanes (especially when drunk) they're more lethal than the roads!!! Have a wonderful stay!!! X

Stayed here for 3 nights on a groupon deal. Nice rooms, cleaned daily with excellent showers. Really close to all tram / bus stops A good 20 mins into the centre.. Doesn't look very attractive from the outside but definitely worth what I paid.

« good value, quiet location with easy transport to centre »

The room was comfortable, enough pillows etc which I like and wonder of wonders, a kettle to make your own tea etc. (number 7 line)from near hotel (turn right and go round corner to first tram stop) which takes you to the museum centre and from here you can walk around all areas central or get another tram. Breakfast was 1 euros if ordered in advance (12 if not) and was OK, lovely fresh bread though bacon a bit chewy.

    2
    « Sure I will not return »

A reception with white neon lights, looks the entrance of a 2 stars hotel. The room totally not special, but... Being waked up by a fire alarm and a stupid voice from the reception for a false fire alarm remembered me a military dormitory. Totally totally crazy!!! Don't come here, stay away!

    « Brilliant Stay »

Me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights! Fab hotel and lovely staff (VERY helpful) it's was 20 mins or so from the airport. Tram stop is a few minutes walk from the hotel....take tram 14 takes 20 mins to get into the main part, get off at 'The Dam' buy yourself a tram travel pass, as you'll use them a lot so will save you some pennies. (You can purchase from reception) Can't wait to visit again! Xx

« Out of the way however excellent »

A short city break was booked at this hotel. Maybe out of the way however excellent none the less. Clean, warm and very comfortable. You control the air conditioning. Free safe in room. Tea and coffee making facility too. Huge fluffy pillows. Tv which also has bbc 1 & 2 with Many other English programs ideal for the evening wind down. Staff very friendly and eager to help where they can ( even ready to pull the vending machine around when chocolate gets stuck) Only gripe with hotel (which I have informed them) are the doors you go through to get to your room section. They are on automatic close which people just let them do.........along with the slam that follows !!! Our room was next to this door which ment I kept jumping with the noise. So ear plugs assisted to some degree. WARNING..............taxi from airport €50 30mins or so..............handy hint.......BUS 69 stops virtually outside hotel for 2 people €5.90 HUGE difference.......also takes 30mins. The bus is every 15mins. We ventured out for food to mermar (think that's the name) must say VERY odd place. They don't speak to you or offer a menu. Hint as soon as you go in stand at till and say you want to eat food in and want a menu and will sit down. Menu is in 'Turkish' I think so just tell them the kind of thing you want (Turkish food wise) and they will order it. Don't expect much interchange or many smiles. But heyho it it's ideal for a late arrival. Out hotel doors turn right, on the corner is an aldi, across the road opposite aldi is tram stop, #14 takes you into the center square (Dam) the stop prior is Anne Frank's house (not too impressed with this money spinner but that's another story) Don't know if this is a general thing but when we went to Madame Tussauds we was also offered a ticket to Amserdam Dungeons for €9 each (huge saving) note: if you go to the dungeons PLEASE join in the fun. Pretend to be scared you are part of the drama so 'go with the flow' and enjoy the hard work these people put in it. Body Worlds exhibition tickets are cheaper if you choose the off peak times. However it's not for the faint hearted and may distress some whome are squeamish. Diamond museum............€8.50 I thought it a waste of money but as my daughter said it's something to do on a freezing cold day, as we did. We did lots more but that's a quick helper for you we hope. Breakfast buffet offered at €10 which by the way is very cost effective by comparison. Also a fantastic range of hot and cold items.

    « Surprisingly good hotel »

Came here as part of a contiki tour with my wife and this was by far the best hotel compared to the others on the trip. Breakfast had plenty of selections and the room was spacious given its cost. The only issue for me was the slight distance from the city.

« Surprise trip for my boyfriend and we enjoyed it. »

I took my boyfriend here as a surprise trip to Amsterdam, the hotel staff was excellent in facilitating my requests for balloons, rose petals and strawberries for a great price and at the required time. It has a lovely restaurant with a great variety of foods for breakfast. It has breads, cereals, hot foods and fruits and yougurts. we didnt eat here for dinner. Took a bus from the airport to right outside the hotel. Unfortunately I cannot remember the bus number. 3 minute walk to tram stop, trams 7 &14 to the city centre was about a 15-20 minute ride. the hotel is surrounded by a main road with plenty of shops and turkish restaurants. Was a very nice trip. room was abit dated in style but functional for a couple. Bathroom was small but very nice.

« One of the best »

I travelled around Europe with contiki and this hotel was by far the best one we stayed in. It was very clean and somewhat fancy. I'm sure anyone going to Europe knows how cramped the hotel rooms are, but I would definitely recommend it to others

Had lovely rooms with all sorts of additions, the beds are super comfy and had a brilliant night sleep! Was self catered so not sure what the food was like but was slightly dissapointed there was no mini fridge! Friendly helpful staff and a great place to stay. Around a half an hour tram from the centre but theyre so often from straight outside the hotel it doesnt even matter!

    « Clean and Neat »

A basic hotel that is clean and to the point. It is mainly just for sleeping. Please note that large contiki groups stay here mostly. Transport to and from the city is pretty simple with the bus and trams. Breakfast is pretty well laid out.

« Best hotel for the money! »

My first impressions from the outside were mediocre at best... the hotel looked a lot nicer on the inside though with a grand reception room and it was overall really quite pleasant, our room was large with a lovely bathroom and all the usual extras. All staff were very helpful and polite. We found a couple of nice restaurants in the area and there are plenty of tram stops with a short ride into town.

    « Nice and Clean »

A really nice basic hotel. I found the rooms to be clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast was pretty good. If you're just after a place to rest your head and basic accommodation does not bother you then I would highly recommend staying here. Hotel is located outside of the city centre, with easy access to the city. I stayed here as part of a contiki tour so please be aware that there may be large contiki groups staying within the hotel.

    « Excellent Hotel »

Booked this hotel very last minute and glad we did. Nice, clean and comfortable beds. Location was outside the city but that wasn't a problem as there are local transport links within easy walk. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

« Perfect Hotel For A City Break! »

I have recently come back from staying at the Blue Square hotel for the New Year and felt it was a great hotel for what we wanted it for, we wanted somewhere to sleep and relax in between tours and amsterdam shopping, the breakfast was lovely and a lot of choice, beds are very comfortable and clean! we used to get the number 7 and 14 tram to Dam city, its just up the road from the hotel, only issue is getting a taxi from the airport, we paid 45 euros from a amsterdam taxi ... overall a really nice pleasant stay!

    « Lovely hotel »

I stayed at this hotel with my partner for a short weekend break. It was a bit of a trek to the city centre but I think we got a bargain as a result. Despite the distance (about 20 minutes on a bus to the city centre) the transport links were excellent and very easy to manoeuvre. You can purchase travel cards directly from the hotel reception and they were very happy to advise us of where to go. There is also bus stop 1 minute down the road that takes you directly to the airport so getting around was completely stress free. The hotel was comfortable, clean and topped up with tea and coffee each morning. It completely suited our needs and we would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for four nights very clean and suprisingly modern. my friend and I had a laugh about the room saying it was a modern day prison room because of how it was, our beds was head to head with a small wall in the middle of the room. However we had a great view on to the lake so the winter sun on my face in the morning was superb. Thought it would be a good idea to smoke by the lake in the morning and almost got attacked by these giant swan, almost wasnt funny lol. You can get a travel card for less than 20e for 3 days to use on the trams bus metro ect and travel to dam sq when you want which takes about 15 -20 mins get the bus 21 or tram 24. The beds are soooooooo comfortable wont for get that sleep in a hurry Has all you need on this road and a local market near by too

    « Nice stay »

Clean and quiet hotel, attentive staff. About 25 mins away from Dam Square on the No 21 bus, or 20 mins on the 14 tram. Along the road from the hotel is a corner shop which sells alcohol, otherwise the local bars are Alcohol free (as they are Arabic). But we found a very nice Baclava restaurant 30 M from the hotel entrance.

    « Excellent hotel »

A Really nice hotel... clean comfortable rooms, nice decor, friendly staff, tasty breakfast buffet. I would definitely stay there again if I visit Amsterdam in the future. Hotel is located on an easy tram route into the city centre and it has shops and a couple of bars nearby too

    « Very comfortable stay! »

Pleasant, clean, safe and comfortable...what more could you want from a weekend stay?! Would stay again in a heartbeat. Breakfast is 10E each (very reasonable!) and offers a good selection for meat-eaters and veggies alike. As previous reviewers have said, the 14 tram takes you into town and is extremely good value - 2.90E for an hour etc. And 69 from Schiphol Airport gets you to the hotel in around half hour. Would recommend to anyone. Enjoy!!

« Nice hotel, helpful staff »

Would recommend this hotel. It's close enough to the town centre, but also far enough away! Plenty of shops and restaurants close by, the hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff are so friendly and helpful, it's quite refreshing! The only reason i didn't give full marks is that it's a little dated, there's no 'bar' and the restaurant is a bit rubbish! But you can take a bottle of wine from the restaurant up to your room. I would stay here again quite happily.

« Would definitely recommend for a weekend break »

This place is easily accessible it's close to a tram and a bus. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The breakfast is also very nice and the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend to any couple for a weekend away

« Great hotel, helpful staff 20 mins from Dam Square »

Hotel lived up to expectations, helpful staff clean rooms although décor is a little out dated. Get bus 69 from airport to Lodv. Deysseelstraat then 5 mins walk to hotel, the tram to Dam square is no. 14 and takes around 20 minutes. Get the 24/48/or 72 hour pass for transport which works out cheaper and also can be used on buses & when returning to airport. Highly recommend the heineken experience both me and partner thought was great, along with a canal cruise to see the city from the water & famous sites.

    « Comfortable & Reasonable Stay »

If distance doesn't bother you that much, then it is the perfect hotel to stay in Amsterdam! Located in west-amsterdam, it is just 20 minutes away from the city centre by tram. The tram (No. 7) stops right outside the hotel and makes it easy to travel around! There is even a direct bus to the airport that you can catch from outside the hotel ... ! The rooms are spacious and clean. Due to last minute booking, we got the ground floor room, but it was good too. Their breakfast layout was the same everyday.. which made it a bit boring... but it was tasty and there were quite a few options to choose from, for non-vegetarians at least! It is advisable to buy the breakfast coupons from the reception a day before as the rates differ (12.50 euros for on-the-spot, 10 euros if booked in advance) You can also rent bikes at reasonable rates from the hotel. Wi-fi was complementary ! :D There is a small play-area for kids as well... It also has a lot of eateries and grocery shops around so meals are also not a problem!

    « Great stuff »

Though best western is a little out of the way ( 20 mins by tram), it was lovely to see the real Holland and the area that surrounds blue square hotel. It seems that it was a predominantly Turkish area and they had some fantastic little shops and bakeries . As I said the centre is only 20 mins by tram. We were made to feel very welcome by a lovely woman on reception named chin. The 1st night our tv broke at around 10pm but chin was lovely enough to come up and fix it for us :) I wouldn't say blue square is a luxury hotel but we had a lovely welcome, a clean room and a goods nights sleep....what else do you need?

    « Weekend away with a friend. »

Went July - only for a couple of nights. Its a cheap very good quality hotel. Its not the best in regards to location but it was ideal for me and my friend. We got the public transport to the city centre (which is so cheap!) tok about ten minutes. We also walked on the first day and it took us quite a while.. (wouldnt advise doing that every day!)

    5
    « Very good! »

This hotel is Very ideal for couples or friends that are travelling to Amsterdam, it's about 20 minutes from the city centre and you can either get the tram or bus from the hotel to the centre. Me and my boyfriend went for 3 days and payed 18 euros each for a tram pass which allows you to get on as much as you want for 3 days. It's easy to get to from the airport also, you have to get a tube from the airport then get the bus. It's very simple. The hotels location is ok, there's a few supermarkets around which are handy if you don't want to eat out all the time. We had ham baguettes for lunch. The view outside the front rooms are not nice at all but we just kept the curtain closed. The beds are extremely comfy! And there's a bath tub! This is a nice little hotel will definitely be going back next year!!!

    « GREAT STAY »

Our experience was very good. We got the bus from the airport which stops right outside hotel and cost 2.90! We like to use the public transport. It was very easy and the driver told us where to get off. The reception area was very good and the staff were very helpful to us during our stay when we had cause to complain about a noise in our room, like water running, from midnight till 1am. They offered to change our room but we just asked for it to be repaired and it was! Melanie on reception was a great help in getting our tickets for Anne Franks house - thanks Melanie, when we had computer problems. We had dinner on the first night and the choice was poor. I opted for the kids meal - cheese soufle - which resembled a findus crispy pancake...beautifully served though!. No bar, which was disappointing but we just took our wine to our room after the meal. The facilities in the hotel were perfectly adequate and clean. Pillows were not great but bedding very good quality. Hotel is great for exploring Amsterdam - we were out of the hotel after breakfast until mid evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our flight home was not until 2140 at night but the hotel kept our luggage in their room until we went back at 6 with no problem. the young lad on reception was so helpful in this regard (didnt get his name - sorry). We were room only but opted for the breakfast the first mornign and found it plentiful and very enjoyable - although not as much choice as usual. We ended up having breakfast every morning as it kept us sustained until late afternoon. We paid the evening before and got a 2.50 discount. Thereore 10 euros, which was very good value for what we had. Would recommend this hotel as long as you dont mind

« OK HOTEL - BETTER THAN EXPECTED FROM REVIWS »

This hotel is a 30EU Taxi ride from Schipol Airport, our room was clean and tidy, furniture was fine but the room could do with redecorating it was a bit dated. Shower was fabulous. Bar was closed for work on it which was disappointing but the Restaurant opposite were happy to serve us drinks so that worked out OK. We were in Amsterdam for a long weekend so bought 48 hour transport cards for 12EU, the 21 bus and 14 tram takes you on a 20 min journey straight into Central Station or Dam. The stop you want on the way back is 40-45 Plein. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.

« Paying Guest Refused Toilet Facilities »

On Arriving late evening we were informed that no double rooms were avalible, and we would have to sleep in a twin bed room The room had no heating and shower/bath and taps were hardly functional Upon returning to reception they agreed to upgrade the following day Our upgrade was a much smaller room with no bath Because our breakfast was not ordered in advance we ended up paying 25 euros for breakfast which was very miminal The biggest complaint was after check out and waiting for our transportation we asked to use the toliets facilities which was refused saying they had none avalible So we had to go outside to a local café. Inspite of being a customer for the last 4 days once you check out, nothings available to you

    « Average »

If going to the Hotel ,it is 25 minutes from the center,Bus 21 .Area is not so nice ..Hotel room was like something from the 90s/we were in bottom corridor .We were woken by someone trying to kick there bedroom door in twice on the same night ...Reception staff were ok ,Breakfast was nice ,I would not stay here again ,due to the distance and no nice qualities regarding the area or Hotel.

« Great hotel on the outskirts of town »

A friend and I took a city break for the weekend in Amsterdam and booked this hotel through a last minute deal. The room was ample, very comfortable and clean. Staff were extremely helpful and allowed us to check in early as we arrived way before the check in time. Although the hotel is not pretty from the outside and is in a modern residential area, the links into the centre of Amsterdam were excellent and very easy to use. Both buses and trams stop very close to the hotel. The quiet area meant it was a welcome escape from the busy city once we had finished exploring. Handy city maps are available at reception to help find your way around. Breakfast was included in our deal and was a plentiful buffet with loads to choose from. Hotel staff were happy to oblige with soya milk and gluten-free bread on request to suit my needs. We had a fantastic time in Amsterdam and would not hesitate to recommend this comfortable hotel to anyone wishing to do a similar trip.

    « Good hotel »

Tram stop is very near the hotel to reach the center or any other part of town. Nice rooms with big bathroom, good breakfast, parking garage. We will try to come back again. Very near are also supermarkets and restaurants.

    « Lekker rustig. »

If the cleaning ladies wouldn't have taken away our second key that i would've given a 4 to the rating. The cleaning on its own was good. They could keep the key inside the room so we don't need to search for it. We've slept very good, we didn't hear anything from outside our room. Reception couldn't speak BE_NL even though it was NL as well.. Maybe try harder next time. For the rest, good no remarks. Good hotel.

« A very good hotel - a bit out of the way, but very good value for money. »

We arrived very early in the morning - way before our room was clean - but the helpful staff looked after our bags until our room was ready. The room was clean, tidy and spacious. The staff were very helpful, and there was a fair amount of selection for the breakfast buffet. The only drawback is the location - it's a good 20/25 minutes away by tram from Dam Square, and there isn't much of a nightlife around the hotel itself. Still, thoroughly recommended.

« You get more than you pay for. »

Don't get dissapointed looking at the property from outside. Outside it looks like a blue box but from inside it is like any other decent hotels. You won't get a five star hotel but you won't be disjointed either. Reception staff were informed and polite.

    5
    « Good hotel.. »

Value for money.good location,a little away fron Dam square but well connected by tram..approx 20 mins. Reception staff is very well ionformed and helpful. Breakfast spread is good..loved their croissants.

« Good size room, did the job »

A trusted brand, tired looking but it served us well. Great spot to avoid any rowdy types as it's a 20 min tram ride into the city. We had a 2nd floor room in the lobby area by a noisey lift. Pack ear plugs if you don't like to be disturbed. Towels changed daily, plenty of toiletries. Staff all friendly and helpful. Generous room, plenty of storage.

    « Lovely hotel but..... »

I booked here for a 4 night stay 27th-31st October for a quick Amsterdam trip. Check in was fairly quick and great discounts for attractions and restaurants at reception. I paid upon arrival but there was an error with my card and machine she then bought over a new card holder I asked if this would take double the amount she said no I got up to my room and checked my bank statement long and behold what happened TWO PAYMENTS TAKEN!!!! I immediately went back down and said you told me it wouldn't take two payments and it has they said they would deal with it the following morning. I ended up calling barclays and they confirmed they had taken 2 payments and reversed this transaction as hotel wasn't willing to give me a refund until I had produced a written email by Barclays. So quick to take 2 payments and hard to put it back by them. Rooms are nice kept clean. Hotel is 20mins from Amsterdam Centraal station we bought a 72hr GVB pass for €16.00 which allowed us to travel on the trams buses and metro at anytime. Overall great Base for city tours (really enjoyed Heineken Experience, hop on hop off boat tour and Amsterdam Dungeons) I would stay here again but I would just pay as soon as I booked it online!!!

    « Far from town »

Pluses: The beds are comfortable and lots of pillows. The staff are pleasant and quite knowledgable. Negatives: The restaurant is far over priced for what you get and long wait, not worth it in the least bit. Overall a good hotel but would be better off staying closer to Amsterdam central.

    « Stole my money »

I needed a room for the next day. Within 5 min of booking I realized that I had forgotten to set the date which then defaulted to that says date. When I called them they refused to change it, saying that they have a 48 hour cancellation policy. I tried to explain that I just booked it 5 min ago and that I could understand the policy if I had booked it weeks in advance and they had to turn people away. They had no rooms for the next day and so they charged me €80 for nothing. Plus I had to pay for a room at a different hotel called Park Plaza which I can highly recommend. Free shuttle to and from airport, great room, great price, great deal.

« Good value for your money »

Check-in was friendly. Room was a good size. The furniture is quite dark and a bit dated; the room could be better lit. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom is functional, nice big shower. The hair dryer was somewhat weak and stopped working after 1-2 minutes but worked again after a few minutes. Room and bathroom were clean. We would have liked to have coat hooks in the room to hang up our wet jackets. Good WIFI. Breakfast buffet was okay. The city center is easy to reach (approximately 20-25 minutes) with public transportation. Stops are just a short walk away. Some restaurants and a few smaller shops in the immediate vicinity. The hotel is well suited for a short trip. Good value for your money. We stayed 2 nights and paid not quite 200.00 Euros including breakfast and tax.

    « Simply spot on. »

This hotel was great. I stayed here as part of my tour through Europe. Beds were super comfy and one faced the window so I had a great view out into the street. Hotel was quiet and ensuite was more than adequate. Buffet breakfast was alright but I would double check what's on offer first if you're picky.

    4
« Very good for your money »

This hotel is ideally situated outside of the city centre but with easy access in to the centre. The local tram stop is just at the end of the street which takes you straight into dam square (at most 20mins). We arrived late evening and were very surprised when they said that we had been upgraded free of charge due to the busyness of the hotel at the time of our stay. The staff were very helpful with all of our queries. One improvement I must say was that the room was really dark and the curtains were very good in keeping the sun out but we didn't get up till about 11 because it was so dark and wasted some of the day. Overall though a very good stay and some where with easy access to the city centre

The staff at this hotel make you feel safe and at home. The rooms are lovely and clean fresh towels every day and beds made! One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in and I have stayed in alot! do not listen to the bad reviews on this hotel, I'm sure you will love it just like I did. Thank you to staff for making my trip to Amsterdam wonderful

« Nice clean hotel it of city »

Stayed here on our first time in Amsterdam and had a great stay. Hotel itself is quite far away from city centre and is located in a residential area so views are not great and not much to see nearby but plenty of tram stops across the road. Saying that the hotel was spotless, well maintained and the room was fab and modern with great service. We personally now prefer staying closer to town but for the price and comfort we would definitely recommend.

    « Very good »

Everthing was fine, only bedroom litle cold.Personal was very nice and kind. The hotel iz 20 min bus to the central station(bus number 21). Breakfast is not included , but can be supplemented and costs 10 ? .This is a little expensive .

« Nice place to stay »

Everything was great! Quiet and peaceful place, amazing lake with swans and funny black ducks nearby, bike rent to go there, helpful staff. But if you love to stay in bed for a while (after 9 am) don't forget to hang do-not-disturb sign on the door handler ^___^

    « Hotel Blue »

The exterior of the hotel looks like the Hospital and the Hotel is bit far from the city centre also but the tram station is not far from the hotel it's hardly 5 mins walk from the hotel. The room was ok with all basic necessities the staff was very straight not helpful and not at all cheerful.

« First cold then warm »

Booked direct via the hotels own webpage and got a better price than the hotel pages. When we arrived we got a room at ground level no. 022. Room was fine but missing a view as we looked directoly across a 2 meter yard to another row of rooms. It was freezing in there so I turned on the heater and we went out to town. When we returned at night it was still freezing but decided to go to sleep. Next morning we asked to get it fixed but was offered another room (270) which looked the same as the first one but this time with a great view over the canal in the back of the hotel. Here the heater worked but only on full power, it could not be regulated so we had to turn it on and off all the time (we gave up asking for another room again) Service was friendly, rooms clean but a bit worn out, broken lamp shades, missing light bulbs, old slow TV´s. Breakfast OK, but cheese with dry edges and scrambled and boiled eggs that was over cooked all 3 days could be improved. Hotel a bit away from city centre but access to downtown with tram leaving very frequent from almost outside hotel worked fine. Easy to buy tickets on the tram. took around 15-20 minutes each way. Parked our car in the basement for 3 days for a fee. Overall a good stay and will go again if i arrive by car. If not i will choose something down town.

« Best value for money »

Very good location, a lot of buses / trams for airport / center. Clean and comfort room. The smoke detector cause us an alarm during night (2.40 a.m.) and we don't have opinion for breakfast (it was not included). I will sure propose it to Amsterdam visitors.

    2
    « Best Western Standard? »

In the first 2 nights the fire-alarm went off 3 times caused by smokers For a non-smoking hotel thats not even poor, it's terrible. Partly dusty However the room was fairly dimensioned, furniture were defect.

    4
    « good base »

If you dont mind travelling each day (around 20 mins) into amsterdam this would be a good base for you and you also get a fairly good idea of the local people and get a feel for the area. You can buy a travel card for 24,48 or 72hrs fairly cheap and you can get on and off buses or trams which are frequent. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly with any queries. WiFi worked fine. We had a lovely room on the 2nd floor with a view over a small canal, it was very quiet and the housekeeping staff kept the room beautifullly clean. Beds were comfy although the pillows were unusual - square. On the last night there we ate at a local place "Meram" Lovely experience.

    5
« Lovely place to stay »

The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. In a great location for getting tram direct to city centre. Breakfast was good value and good choice. Beds were supper comfortable.

    4
« Good for the price?? »

Small but clean and plenty of space, ideal for a short city break. No problems with service and breakfast was spot on. Would stay again for sure. It's is a little bit out the way from the train station however plenty of ways to et to the centre and there is also a tram station two minutes down the road????

    5
    « Very pleasant stay »

Ideally located out of the city, but easier enough to get in by trams. Plenty of local shops and supermarkets around. Ideal for my friend who lived in Gouda to come and pick us up. We had a family room that was ideal and plenty of room, my son loved the free wifi. Could do with a bit of updating but clean enough which is most important. Near to freeway but could still sleep with windows open and I am a light sleeper

    3
    « Small but adequate »

Rooms are small, like living in a railway carriage only smaller. Breakfast was great. Hot and cold, fresh and plentiful. Service was ok nothing special. Anymore than 2 nights and it could've been a little tiresome.

    4
« Afford price at luxury standard »

Excellent facilities with luxury surroundings. Location ok, not too far from City Centre. Staff was fantastic and tried their best to translate to English. Complained once about the cold water in shower and was presented with a complimentary drinks voucher worth 10 euro each. Swimming pool available. Excellent transport facilities with regular buses and trams taking you around the City. Would return in the distant future.

    2
    « Not recommended! »

The first room when i checked in is a tiny and horrible design. i request the change the following morning and receive a standard room. The restaurant is a plus however the server is really untrained and impolite (He set up the cutlery by throwing it on the table, in front of me!). No room service at all as i see.

    4
    « Clean and friendly »

Although it is a 20 min bus ride from the city of Amsterdam, the buses and trams are frequent and supermarkets and street market very close. Furnishings are a bit dated but was clean and facilities were fine. Great internet too. All staff were helpful and friendly.

« Amazing Experience and great Hospitality! »

We were couple visiting on a short visit to Amsterdam via Brussels for a 2 days Halt and we booked this hotel a little while back based on it reviews on trip Advisor and glad to see it totally met our expectations. It located little far from main Amsterdam central but easily connected. You can take a tram which run just next to the front of the hotel. The rooms were clean, neat and awesome. we had a nice view of Tienhoven canal from our window and it just felt great to sit and watch it while having our coffee. They also offer to keep your luggage for a day if you have time after check-out. The service was good. All in all it was a lovely experience. If I am coming back to Amsterdam, Western Blue square would be my first option only.

    2
    « This is not a 4 star hotel »

This hotel unfortunately is not four stars more like a hostel. Guests smoking weed in rooms and setting off hotel alarm. Room heating does not work properly and fit out is outdated. My room was facing another room and had hardly any light. The security pass never worked properly. The staff looks overworked and service at reception is poor.

    2
    « poor service »

Not enough towels. Asked and paid for late check-out but where called up at regular check-out. No excuses our compensation whatsoever. Outdated hotel, 180€ a night is definitely too much for this place.
