    « Clean and comfortable »

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Friendly staff. And you get a free breakfast every morning. Breakfast options aren't fantastic but they'll hold you til you trek out to Austin Brothers for a great lunch.

    « Showing its Age »

The Hotel is showing is age. The room and the furnature are dated and the matress on the bed was overly soft and dated. In need of an update. The hotel hads been there for some time. Stayed ther ten years ago and except for the flat screen TV not much else has cheanged.

    3
    « Clean but dated »

Hotel staff was very helpful. The rooms are dated but clean. The is no elevator which presents a problem when you have heavy bags. They did not have many healthy choices for breakfast. The other amenities like the pool and exercise room were fine.

« Was not the best »

the room was nice and clean the shower was hot and plenty of pressure. the staff some were great others were not. as for the breakfast pretty much every machine was broken so you could have water to drink have toast or cereal. no coffee, no orange juice only a few pieces of toast biscuits were stale and gravy had no taste. and there was only 2 yogurts in the fridge. check out staff was nice but no apologies for the poor breakfast.

    « highly recommend »

This is a well-cared for motel. It is clean and comfortable and has a homey feeling. That is because of the owner, Nancy, who is a very nice lady! My husband fell coming in the door and she was so caring and concerned about him. She even took our bags down to our room and offered to help in any way she could. Every employee was so friendly and helpful. The price was very reasonable, too.

« Always the best and getting better »

Another great multi night stay...home away from home.....the staff can't do enough for you to .........very professionally operated. It's by far the very best value for your money in NE Michigan... RATED #1 in the area.....and the morning waffles can't be beat.

    « Corvette Legends »

We had a group of 32 people with 19 cars we were checked in with ease with that many people coming in at once the lady did a great job of taking care of everybody. We were all on the same side of the hotel which was easy for us to mingle.

    3
    « Clean average hotel »

The room and bathroom were clean, the bed was comfortable. The sheets on the bed were old and pilling. There was a smell, something musty. We were not sure what it was. The clerk at the front desk was Awesome and very helpful. Hotel takes AAA discount, always a bonus.

« great place to stay »

I really look forward to staying at this best western when my delivery route requires me to stay in Alpena. check in is always so friendly and helpful and so is checkout. plenty of places to eat and shop in the area.

« Nice motel for a reasonable price »

We had a good-sized room with a few nice touches - an attractive lightweight bed covering, granite counter in the bathroom, a small microwave. Our king bed was quite comfy, but the A.C. was difficult to get just right. The first floor rooms have an unusual set up, in that there is a door directly to the outside and parking, as well as a door to an interior corridor. Breakfast was more limited than most hotel chains, but it was enough to tide us over until lunch.

  • 3
    « Average stay »

The room was small and a bit crowed but was okay; the bed was too firm. hot tub was warm it should have been hot and the jets were not very strong. breakfast was just okay, nothing fancy or out of the ordinary.

« I always stay here when in Alpena, MI. »

Clean rooms, a friendly staff and a very nice owner make for a pleasant stay. I normally only use the refrigerator, bathroom and shower facilities when I stay there. Now and then I will watch a little TV, but then only the Turner Classic Movies channel. The rest is garbage, in my opinion.

    5
    « Great Value »

A great hotel that offers an excellent value, with clean rooms, a very friendly and helpful staff. Location is close to a pharmacy and places to eat. I will definitely stay at this Best Western property again next time I am in town on business :)

    « Comfortable, relaxing stay »

My husband and I really enjoyed our 2-night stay. Used the hotel as a central point for a golf trip. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room and the hotel itself were very clean. Even though the hotel was pretty full, we never had any problems with noise or anyone interrupting our sleep. Mostly older couples. Pool area was nice; we used it every day. Breakfast was basic hotel continental breakfast. Breakfast room is small (only 3 tables), but we're early risers so never had a crowd to deal with. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but we'll stay there again if we're in the area.

    « Good pick »

Very clean and well kept motel. Person at the front desk friendly, and when asking about places to eat gave us many options. We were on motorcycles and told us to stop by desk in the morning that they would give us towels to wipe bikes off with ! Glad that we picked this place.

    4
    « Good, well-maintained older property »

The owners have done a great job of keeping this property up-to-date. The only negative I found was that due to allergies, the small amount of fragrance in their sheets and towels still bothered me, so if a sufferer, bring your anti-histamines.

    5
    « Great hotel »

Overall a very nice hotel., pleasantly surprised. Usually stay at a Holiday Inn Express if given the option but there was nothing wrong with this hotel. Tad slow with check in but my only complaint.

    5
« Very friendly and clean »

Very soft and comfortable beds. There is also a work out room and laundry room provided. Everything was very clean, and the employees were all very kind. They opened up the laundry room early for us multiple times. The breakfast was very delicious and I will definitely come back.

    « Nice stay »

Stayed here 2 nights on our road trip. Super friendly staff. Room was very clean and had 2 entrances. One to hallway, one to parking lot. Very nice for unloading the car. Fridge, microwave and coffee in room. Breakfast was the normal fare. Room could use some more outlets for people, like me, who must sleep with a fan on. Would stay again, very close to stores and restaurants.

    5
    « Very Nice Stay »

We thought everything was great in this hotel. Very clean, nice microwave & mini fridge, great breakfast. Found the staff very friendly and helpful - especially since Expedia said they were booked, we stopped in anyway and were glad to find accommodations for the time frame we needed. Nice outdoor area for horseshoes, corn hole, basketball, grilling and for us smokers, a nice smoking area (although on the other side of the building). Hot tub wasn't boiling hot, pool was nice. Very nice stay for us who have never been in this area! Well done :)

« Poor Check in and out process »

This hotel needs to get their act together on the checking in and out process. We had such a hassle l of quotes and pricing of room. Check out time we had a hassle with being charged too many nights and it took forever to correct our bill. Last year my cousin was double charged and was never reimbursed for his overpayment. Otherwise our stay was great and we will go back but expect better service on checking in and out.

    5
    « Very Pleasant Stay »

This was our first trip to the area. The hotel was very easy to find. The staff was friendly and courteous throughout the stay. It was very quiet and very clean. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the area.

    1
    « Bad Nights Stay »

Needs new bed sheets. Needs new mattresses. No elevator. Lawn and shrubs need attending. Front desk needs attitude improvement and looked sloopy. Switches on lights are difficult to turn. Must be careful enytering and leaving the front entrace to keep from falling into the fountain pool.

    4
    « Comfortable and Caring »

My wife and I stayed at the BW in Alpena, MI 2 nights while visiting a friend. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was better than most free continental breakfasts I have encountered while travelling. The staff was friendly and accomodating.

    4
« Great Service - Could Use Some Upgrades »

The rooms were smaller than the average hotel and the lobby and some of the carpeting could use a remodeling; however, the price was appropriate for the amenities. The employees were very professional and hospitable. The room was clean, the bedding was updated, but not the furniture. The bathroom was very small, but again, for the price we were charged it was ok. The bathroom was clean. There were two doors to the room. One to the back parking lot and the other in the hallway. We were travelling on motorcycles and parked under the awning - else the back door would have been nice for loading and unloading luggage.

    4
    « Clean and comfortable »

We were on a road trip and needed a room for the night. We were able to check in and get a second floor, two queen room with no problem. The room was very clean, with a comfortable bed and soft sheets. The room also had a mini-fridge and microwave which was very convenient. Breakfast in the morning was pretty basic but good. They offer make your own waffles, biscuits and gravy, a variety of cereal and oatmeal, bagels, yogurt, and hard boiled eggs. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

    4
« Just outside of Alpena »

You get what you pay for. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, but the sheets had piling on it and made it difficult to sleep. The pool was cold and slightly dirty and the hot tub did not work well. There was no frig in the room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was small but had ample choices for breakfast. No scrambled eggs or meat, but plenty of selection. They had fresh fruit and coffee.

    4
    « Clean and Comfy »

Clean room with a very comfy bed, nice wifi service and large pool. Conveniently located right off M-32 in Alpena close to shopping and restaurants. Breakfast smelled good but I did not eat during my stay.

    3
    « Needs work »

It was a room, a very small room. The bed was comfortable and we always had clean linens However, I requested a pet free room when I reserved and there wasn't one avl when we arrived. Hot tub didn't work properly, the breakfast was beyond minimal. The fruit was bad and there were no donuts or muffins. Smokers hung out right outside the pool area so the area smelled.

    5
    « Wonderful Stay! »

Our visit was great and the hotel was in a central location for our needs. The room was a bit small but very clean. The only concern that I had was that the refrigerator was located in a cabinet and when in use it heated up to the point that I opened the doors on the cabinet so that it could breathe.

  • 5
« Very comfortable and clean »

We were only going to be in Alpena one night, and had always stayed at the HI which is now under a different name. Based on reviews, we chose BW. Our room was very clean and the beds were outstanding for comfort. The room was pretty small but since it was for one night, it did not matter. The front desk manager was extremely helpful in answering our questions. The pool was not available the night we were there, but we did not have much time anyway. Breakfast was very substantial for a CB.

    3
    « TOO COMPLICATED! »

I have been traveling for business 130+ nights/year for over 25 years now. The check-in process, after a long day of work, is much to time consuming. This is the only hotel I have ever been asked for my drivers license so that they could make a copy of it. None of the paperwork was ready when I checked in (well after 7:00pm and reservations made over a week ago). Check-out is not easy either as you have to go to the desk to get a copy of your bill. Room was clean but very dated. Mini fridge was stuffed in the only spot to hang clothes. Iron was scorched so I couldn't iron my pants. Wifi speed was very good. No USA Today. Bare minimum breakfast with no fruit or other healthier options. Rate was not much better than Hampton Inn or HI Express in Gaylord.

« Best Motel in Alpena, MI »

This is the best Motel in Alpena, Michigan to stay at. It blows away Days Inn! Where I used to stay over there they are rude to their customers. The staff at Best Western is kind and friendly and go out of their way to help you. All rooms have LED TV's which is cool. HDMI's are nice when checking stuff off computer. Every room has super fast internet. The beds are very comfortable.

    4
« Enjoyed our stay here »

We enjoyed our stay here: everything was very clean and most of the staff exceptionally friendly. (One front desk lady not so much.) The free Wi-Fi was fast and easy. Breakfast was plenty good to keep us going all morning. If you're in town to visit family in the hospital, get a hospitality letter from the hospital before you check in. This will save you about $25/night.

    4
« A nice placed to stay, good service and clean hotel »

This is a nice, clean, affordable, hotel with good service. It is close to major stores and close to downtown. The breakfast was continental, no more besides a waffle maker. The indoor pool and jacuzzi were nice. The internet was good.

    3
    « Pet-friendly »

Just called to finalize a reservation for later this month...be aware that they only allow one pet per room. We own two trained Shelties and we could not convince them they would be fine. We just returned from a four day weekend at a LaQuinta in Indianapolis with our dogs and found that hotel to be very accomodating. To each his own I guess.

« Best Westerns Always Satisfy »

Nice property, well kept up. Good selections for breakfast. Bed was comfortable. WiFi was adequate. Check-in and out was quick. Easy access on a main highway in Alpena. Nice lady at the desk gave us several suggestions for dinner when we inquired.

    5
« Nice place to stay »

Clean and friendly. Good breakfast. Would stay again. Not a fancy place but lots of stuff in walking distance. Restaurants, gas stations, parks, shopping. Liked the private entrance and only had to carry luggage a few feet.

    5
    « Great Alpena Hotel »

After several trips to Alpena, I will only stay at this hotel. The staff is friendly and make guests feel very welcome. This location is within walking distance to a Meijer and Walmart. It is easy access to all Alpena sights.

    5
    « friendly staff »

always enjoy my stay here, staff is very friendly ,clean rooms good night sleep, a lot of parking for larger trucks. great stay good location ,near bike trails. recommend this hotel for business or for a family stay.

    « Cheap Management... »

Had to ask for extra towels. They only put one towel per guest in each room. Doesn't leave much in you need to shower before going to dinner or after using the pool. Hot tub didn't work. Water was barely warm and jets didn't work. Pillows were so small considering it was a king size bed. Had to use three pillows just to be able to raise my head.

    5
« superior quality and value »

The staff and management went out of their way to make my trip a success. The pool, the work out room, the waffles, juice, cereal, bagels, fresh fruit, coffee, biscuits and gravy for breakfast......(hence the need for the work out room)....lol....the rooms.....the location....all as perfect as it gets. This was by far the best extended stay experience I have ever had.

    5
    « outstanding »

The staff and amenities far exceeded my expectations. The cleanliness, the attitude, the whole overall experience was just outstanding.......I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting affordable luxury. Well Done!

    4
« Clean, friendly place to stay »

Nice accommodations, friendly service, good continental breakfast, easy access to room. Had a problem with the TV cable connection, but that was minor. We would stay here again, if in the area. Located on route M-32 on the west side of Alpena.

    4
« Good Rest and Yummy Breakfast »

Best Western of Alpena does a good job of maintaining a clean and professionally run hotel. Room was clean and comfortable Their breakfast was outstanding. I always stay at Best Western when in the Alpena area.

    5
    « business and pleasure »

I have been to many many hotels across this country as a over the road truck driver. This hotel is top notch for anyone. They have plenty of parking for semi trucks with plug ins available for the winter months. As I checked in Wendy was super nice and had a pleasant personality. After a brief chit chat with her the owner came out and extended a welcome to me as well. Mind you the owner is a local and yes no accent or Indian owned. Upon discovering she hasn't raised her rates in years I was impressed that she wants to be the best in town and best rates also. That's right folks they don't jack the rates up on weekends or special events in town. Now that is a big big plus in my book. The room is updated with fridge, microwave, nice comfy bed which I'm laying on right now. Very clean with no strange odors in the room or the hallway. No heavy perfumes or scents to cover up anything. The hotel has is across from Wal-Mart and next door to Myers. Several restaurants are within walking distance. The staff is super friendly and will go out of thier way to make sure you have a great stay. From providing info about local museums,to family entertainment, shopping, etc. It's a relief knowing that there is still customer service and pride and a customer is #1 to the staff. I recommend the Best Western to anyone.

    5
    « Definitely recommended »

I'll admit, I've only stayed at this hotel in Alpena - because I was sold on my first stay (just had my 3rd stay and my 4th is in a couple months). It's clean, the bed is quite comfortable, nice amenities, and the water pressure in the shower is amazing. I like the feature that there are two doors to each room. So you can park in front of your room (better on one side of the building vs the other) and enter, but there is also a central hallway that takes you to the lobby, pool, and breakfast room. Never seen another hotel with that feature, and it's quite nice.

    5
    « Clean and quiet »

Very nice and clean. Always quiet. Plenty of parking space. Nice area of Alpena, close to shoping and down town. Nice sevice and friendly. I stay at the Best Western Hotels all the time and each one is very clean with nice staff.

    4
    « great for snowmobilers »

Have stayed here several times. Access to sled trail is very convenient. Plenty of parking for long trailers. Rooms clean and comfortable. Gas next door. Breakfast a little weak but common for a budget room.

    5
    « great staff »

this was my 3rd or 4th stay there and I have had very excellent treatment from the staff on duty at checkin and checkout.the room rate is great and the breakfast is really good. I would highly recommend to anyone traveling to the area to get a room there.

    « Birthday/Anniversary weekend »

A weekend away for my birthday and our anniversary. Clean hotel with great customer service. The room was small and it needed to be updated. The outdoor entrance was a plus...just needed a rug/mat for snow boots etc. The breakfast in the morning was great...many choices.

    4
    « Hotel Alpena area »

Staff was friendly and Professional. Rooms comfortable and clean. Breakfast hot and good variety of choices. Both inside and outside entrance for the room makes easy unloading from car too room. Well worth your hard earned dollars.

    3
    « Basic budget motel »

Rooms are basic budget motel, somewhat on the small side, appeared to be pretty clean. Strange to have 2 doors in the room, 1 opening to outside parking and 1 to interior corridor. Staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was very basic.

    4
« Clean, excellent value motel »

Stayed here last summer for fishing and relaxing. Entire property is very clean, pool area nice, close to shopping and highway to Hillman and Atlanta. Staff professional, helpful and courteous. Feels homey, not a big cold feeling chain. Will return here.

    5
    « Pleasently Surprised »

I normally do not stay at Best Westerns but the choices were limited in Alpena. The entire stay was much better than I was expecting. Breakfast had a good selection. Staff was friendly. Room was clean.

    3
    « OK »

First time staying in Alpena, this was the highest rated place so we tried it out. It was no more than average, an OK place but nothing special. Price OK, room was decent, though if they are going to have second floor rooms they really should have an elevator. Sort of friendly, but not overly so. Breakfast average, though breakfast room quite tiny when the place was near capacity. No Kleenex in bathroom, and lighting was fairly dim, but beds were comfortable.

    5
    « Fall Trip »

stayed here just passing through, friendly staff, average breakfast would definitely stay here again if ever travel through the area, restaurants and shopping near by, average pricing range for this motel

    5
    « Business Trip »

Excellent Accommodations. Quiet and clean. Great location for dinning. Staff friendly and helpful. Close to downtown for a fun shopping experience. I would recommend this hotel for those traveling in the Alpena area.

    4
« GREAT PLACE FOR A STOP OVER »

Clean room, good breakfast, good price. This worked great for us as we were traveling with no plans and no reservations. Plenty of places to eat in the area. Layout was a bit strange, but quiet rooms.

    5
    « Loved this location »

Very clean facility and welcoming staff. Room was very clean and comfortable. Hotel was close to everything. Great outdoor area to sit and relax and lots of space for children to play. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would highly recommend this hotel.

    « nice place »

This hotel is a very nice and place to stay. The rooms are clean and quiet. We did not hear our neighbors and the hotel was full the night we stayed. The staff is friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again when traveling to Eastern Michigan.

    5
« Excellent for the price point! »

I am a business traveler and Im always worried when I see hotels available under $70 a night, but with a small town without a lot of options I had to take it. I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival! This is an older hotel that appears to have been renovated a little so there are no exterior doors (now there is a breezeway). Bed is comfy, room is very clean. Wifi works great. Rooms are small, but perfect for one night stays. Pool and hot tub are clean and not freezing. Small workout room too. Outback they have grills and a playground. Hotel decor is outdate but really, who cares. Staff is friendly, they offer a breakfast and there are microwaves and a small refrigerator in the room.
