« What a great place to stay »

« My seminar at the Best Western »

I conducted a 5 day seminar at this hotel. The service was excellent. Gill, the hotel manager, was always asking if everything was to my approval. It was. The food in the restaurant was delicious and at a reasonable price.

« Decent Hotel for Business »

I stayed here for two nights in November 2016. The staff were courteous and helpful. My room was comfortable. The room was clean and the climate control unit kept me comfortable. I enjoyed the breakfast, especially the fresh bananas. My biggest issue was that the WIFI service did not work most of the time. I ended up using my cellular data plan in order to get work done in a timely manner. This was a letdown. The other, lesser, issue is that the hotel's restaurant was closed on a Sunday night. This was not a huge issue but many business people travel on Sunday in order to be at work on Monday morning. A hotel restaurant would have been a welcome sight after traveling all afternoon.

    « One night stay »

We found this hotel while traveling the NE part of the Untied States. The price was good and the room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was good. for a one night stay is was fine. We had everything we needed and a near by parking place.

« Not for business person »

Not friendly place not the cleanest either, not required to take such a large deposit at all just a card is active on file. Not friendly for the business person who spend many day on the road some as many 300 days. As diamond select was not asked nor taken care of as a member. All in not impressed if you want to make it in this business must follow the standards of the franchise your not close. The door Windows floors and walls not clean. The out side front to back very dirty. I have been going hear for 3 year. You gotten to new lows not sure I will return. Unhappy customer

« Price was good, stayed additional nights »

We initially booked one night but ended up staying 2 more. The hotel itself is not the most up to date but we found the staff to be very helpful & accommodating. When comparing to other hotels in the area, it was a good deal. The hotel had free parking and a continental breakfast with both hot/cold food.

    5
« Great service, great price, friendly staff »

Though this may not appear to be the highest quality hotel, the way the staff treat you and make sure you're taken care of is exemplary. The cleanliness was maybe a 8/10, not perfect but frankly evident that they do regularly hit all the blind spots so it may have just been an off afternoon when i checked in. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a good place to stay, especially for if anyone has someone in a nearby hospital as they offer a discount.

    2
« Do they know how to put sheets on? »

We checked in at 12:15. Now we are sitting waiting on someone to bring a sheet to fit this bed. It looked like they tried to put a full size sheet on a king size bed. The padding under it had brown stuff on it that looked like poop. It looks like an old hospital on the inside and smells like a nursing home.

    1
    « Very Unsafe »

Poorest hotel I've ever stayed in. Rooms were sub-standard, cold showers, unable to control the heat/air condition unit. Elevator was out of order - people were stuck in it. Rear entrance of the building did not work - no cameras in the parking lot for safety.

    4
« Got the Job Done »

We arrived at the hotel at about 11PM. We were quickly checked in and on our way to our room with a nice king bed. In the morning we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the free breakfast; there were a lot of options and everything was delicious. I was weary about our stay based on some other online reviews but we were very happy with everything. The service was good, our room was clean, and the food was yummy.

    « Bad to worse »

A recent conference brought me back to this property. Against my better judgement I stayed, I will not make that mistake again. Elevator out of order Deadbolt lock on room door doesn't work. Pick up room phone to call desk about broken lock, phone does not work. Call hotel on my cell phone, put on hold. Hung up after 8 minutes. Toilet not secured to floor, rocked and wobbled when used. Carpets filthy, never took my socks off. Intermittent hot water. Ironed shirt in room, sticky, black "something" on iron stuck to my shirt...ruined. Woke up to sounds of radios and talking outside my (4th fl) window. Fire trucks, police and other emergency vehicles in parking lot. Never heard an alarm and when I asked at the desk (next morning) what had happened I was told by desk representative that she "had no idea". WiFi out most of time we were there. The torn carpets, non working room keys, etc... barely rate mention. If I didn't know better I'd think this was a "hot sheet" hotel with hourly rates.

« You Get What You Pay For! »

I recently stayed at the Best Western Sovereign in Albany and wish that I had listened to my gut feelings about it prior to booking it. My colleague and I were attending a meeting and the meeting host had arranged a block of rooms. I read the reviews and they raised valid concerns but I went ahead and booked it anyway. I even contacted the hotel prior to our arrival and was assured that our rooms would be clean and up to our standards. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The room itself seemed acceptable but the bathroom was not! There was a continuous drip from the toilet tank and there were black particles in the water that returned after each flush. The bath mat was dark and dingy and there was black around the edges. I asked for a different room and that one wasn't much better. Upon careful examination of the sheets, I found old stains on one bottom corner that appeared to be blood and the sheets were tattered and falling apart. I slept on the opposite end but everything just felt unclean to me. My colleague had to have her sheets changed because she was feeling itchy after getting into the bed. The breakfast was meager, at best, and I felt better eating elsewhere. I would have given it one star but the staff members were very helpful and nice. As Betty Davis said, "What a dump!"

    « Not Impressed! »

When you first walk in the reception area is very nice and updated. When you get on the elevator that all changes. The elevator is very old and I really felt unsafe on it. Once we got off the halls where very dim, the dark wood made it look very dated. The carpet was awful and had a musty smell. The room itself was not the worst but was very dusty on the furniture and the bed shirt was ripped. We had a room facing the pool which I thought would be great. But I was not happy with the drunk wedding party splashing and woohoooing at 10 at night. Overall I would not stay there again. The best part I think was the free breakfast in the morning. They had a pretty good spread.

« Terrible hotel - dirty and smelly »

Our room REEKED; it was like sleeping inside of a burrito-bowl! The hallway carpets were also nasty, with strong pet odors. The indoor pool was "closed", the fitness center is run down, and the eggs served at breakfast are inedible.

    2
« Not impresses at all! Horrible Mattresses! »

Got this hotel on an express deal on priceline as a 3 star hotel. NO WAY, 2 maybe at best! Just like alot of other reviews, outside looks like a jail, desk and lobby are nice! Staff was very friendly. Once you get in the elevator its all downhill. My FIRST room smelled like body odor and cologne to cover it up. When I did my bed bug check, which I do at ALL hotels, I discovered the mattress to be extremely old and ripped. It was so bad that the springs were sticking out on both sides. I never ask for a new room but had to. The girl at the front desk was able to switch me to a new room. This time no odor, but the mattress was ripped in the same spots but the metal had not yet made it through. The girl did call my room to seen if I was happy. I told here about the situation and she offered to move me again. I declined thinking that I was probably not going to get too lucky. In addition one of my lamps has a delicate wire and flickers on and off when I move on the bed. Now I'm not able to connect to the wifi. It says connected but there is no data and nothing will load. After calling the front desk I was informed that it is down and being worked on. The worst part about this is that I have 2 more nights here. Never will I stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone, unless I was contacted and invited to see the improvements. But from the look of the hotel now and the months if not years of complaints listed im not anticipating too much.

    2
    « Bad experience »

not impressed with the cleanliness of hotel. There was no way housekeeping could have missed the blood on the sheets and fixed the bed this way. Breakfast however was the one good thing that i experienced and i would recommend only that portion of my stay.

« This place was truly the worst hotel I've stayed in for years. »

I hate writing bad reviews, and I stay at 50 or 60 different hotels each year, and I write mostly positive reviews, but this place is terrible. I was due to stay here for 9 days next week and I've had to cancel and book elsewhere because last night I was booked in for a single night, and it was really filthy. Unfortunately I hadn't realised earlier in the evening when I checked in as I had to go out to dinner, didn't get back until nearly 1am. I've attached pictures because I think it's important for people to see that this isn't just lazy housekeeping, it's significantly problematic cleaning in an ongoing way. There was surface dirt like hair and grime on a piece of glass in the bathroom and probably most disgustingly blood or something (you can see the photo you can decide) on the cover, and then the carpets that were so dirty that my feet were covered in grime after I had been walking around with no shoes on. You can see that there is dust and grime in multiple places both in the room and outside which makes me pretty suspicious that it isn't the only room like this, it just clearly hasn't been cleaned in a long time. The AC was coming apart and was also filthy. It made a noise that sounded so loud that it would have been impossible to hear another person over it or sleep. I actually really like AC noise normally, it works as great white noise normally, but this was just grinding and turning on and off. In the end I had to turn off the AC which made the room stuffy. I have no idea what is going on with this property, but I really hope that they pick up their game, cos honestly I've stayed at a lot of BWs but this place is making me pretty nervous about staying at another. I had to stay another night in Albany, and have checked into a place down the road that costs about the same amount but it's perfect, which is seen more perplexing! Normally I wouldn't stay somewhere that had reviews this bad, but I hadn't booked it myself (it was booked by the University) and I just hope they don't book anyone else in here.

« Best Western Sovereign Inn Albany »

Nice Best Western, Good value. Hotel and rooms are in very good condition. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. We went to the Across the Street Pub which was very good. Very satisfied with our decision to stay here.

    « WEEKEND STAY »

well the only good thing about this hotel, was the front desk ladys, who checked us in , the bathroom had nothing but roaches, to start and were do they allow people to bring big dogs in as well !!! they even had a couple of people in the pace we were to eat inside the pace with a big dog, at the table never again will i stay at any hotel that has dogs in it !!!!!

« Bad internet late breakfest »

No internet had to go next door to days inn to get it many people had the same problem. Two days I wasted waiting for it to be fixed looking to change hotels now. doing this on their pc. There is no smoke alarm in the room the wires are there but its not? Staff is nice but this the third BW in a row that has had things go wrong with it. The last one cleaned out my room and trashed my stuff a day before I was to leave

    « dirty »

Not a great option, will stay elsewhere; close to UAlbany though hair in the tub, little to no toiletries offered, nice front desk, helpful - just need to clean up their act - the beds were way too small, consider queen beds

    1
« AVOID AT ALL COST »

We had nothing but trouble from the start. We couldn't check in until late, there was no linen to make the beds, they let us in the room and the mattress was stained, the mattress pad was was filthy, the pillows were stained, the room had an odor, the air conditioner was filthy. We found out the next day that someone else had a cockroach in their room. The whole stay was very disturbing. This is a dirty place and very outdated.

    4
    « 1 night stop over »

I stayed here on my way to NYC. The hotel was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and I would stay here again if in the area. It was convenient to have an attached restaurant, food was very good.

    « Needs Some TLC »

We spent a few days here on vacation from Scotland and found it well suited for access to Downtown: to the malls at Crossgates and Colonie, and to the interstate north into the Adirondacks. The hotel could certainly do with a little tlc - some electrical points are dodgy, and the decor in some areas could do with some attention however, it is kept spotlessly clean and the staff throughout the hotel are friendly and extremely helpful. The complimentary breakfast is well set out, plentiful, and very good.

    5
    « A very pleasant surprise »

We stayed at this hotel overnight on our way into Canada. Staff were extremely well trained accommodating and polite there were only a few minor negatives such as paper plates and plastic knives and forks for breakfast. Breakfast was good though and on the whole it was a really nice pleasant place to stay. The room was really well equipped with a fridge and microwave nice and clean and really not much to comment on. It looks a little ropey on the outside with the car park needing a bit of TLC but for the price I'm not complaining, staff more than made up for it.Special mentions to Derek Natasha and Tasha. Well done!

    « Bad Hotel - Great People »

First of all I need to stress that the front desk staff were absolutely super friendly, welcoming and responsive. Peter is fabulous and truly understands customer service; I also had great interactions with Natasha at checkout. My initial impression of the hotel from the outside was not too favorable as the hotel gave the appearance of being run down - I think it was the very faded (possibly removed) sign about their in house restaurant and the lack of any real landscaping - just a dreary parking lot). Check in was super and Peter took expert care of the check in process (including some great cookies) and my impression quickly improved. That did not last and below is the list of issues with the hotel and room: 1. Carpet needs replaced throughout (both rooms and public areas) as it is badly stained and worn down such that it is difficult to vacuum adequately. A good shampooing would not save the carpet. 2. Our room was small and we had a lot of bags so we just placed them in the hallway. 3. The bed looked disheveled - the bedskirt was pushed way up exposing the bed frame - just a lack of care on housekeeping's part. 4. The tub in our room would not hold a bath - maintenance responded but was unable to fix the problem and they didn't have one of those big round discs you can place over drains either. They offered to let us switch rooms but we saw that as way to big a chore. Again - front desk staff great. 5. The tub faucet also would not turn off entirely - it dripped pretty rapidly continually - I placed a towel in the tub to absorb the noise when we slept. 6. The bathroom sink and counter were integral and there was minimal counter landing space with about four inches on either side of the sink. They did include a shelf over the toilet tank that helped hold some toiletries. 7. The toilet tank lid did not fit the tank - it was too big. To make it work a niche was cut out of the lid just above the handle to make room for guests to access the handle to flush the toilet. 8. Our mattress had about a four foot long rip down one side. Why housekeeping did not report the problem so that management could replace it was an enigma. I reported this at checkout and was offered some type of refund on my rate. 9. One lamp in our room had electric outlets yet the other two that didn't have outlets were identical in all other respects. Particularly annoying was that the lamp with outlets was NOT at the desk. You had to crouch down to use an outlet on the wall under the desk to charge electronics - reaching these outlets if difficult for us old folk!! 10. The luggage carts are large (sure can hold a lot of stuff) but they didn't fit well in the small elevators or in the narrow hallway in our room. It was very difficult to offload the cart because it consumed almost all of the space in the hallway. 11. The entire hotel is past due for a complete remodel/refurbish and maybe a total gutting! It is in bad shape with way too many maintenance and upkeep issues. 12. There was no ice maker on our floor (5th). I called the front desk to ask where one was and I was told that the only ice maker currently available was on the first floor. I finally found one there (behind the swimming pool) and noted during my search that several ice makers had been removed in various areas around the hotel. I spoke to the GM about this matter and he told me that there were ice makers on other floors and that I must have received bad information from the front desk agent. Good things: 1. The doors to the rooms closed slowly so you never heard doors slamming in the hallway. 2. Related to the above, the room was also nice and quiet and I heard no noise from other guests. 3. The front desk team were super and I can't say enough good things about them. 4. The internet worked fine. Breakfast - a mixed bag: The breakfast options were varied and they had some very good bacon. Eggs were those cheese filled omelets and they also had potatoes. There was plenty of yogurt choices (loved the Greek yogurt). There was skim milk for cereal - not just 2%. Breakfast bread/pastry choices were a little underwhelming. The coffee and juice were good and they even had a french vanilla coffee available. The hotel was full when we were there and breakfast was a madhouse. The result was that the buffet areas were in a continual cluttered/untidied state. Of course it is hard to clean when guests are milling about. The waffle making area, in particular, was very dirty (many guests are not too careful). It is rare for me to rate a hotel horrible (don't recall I ever have) and I'm not going to do it here. The front desk staff are just so good. However, even they cannot save a hotel when it lacks basic comforts and amenities. Finally - I received a 50% reduction in my room rate for the badly ripped mattress. The GM explained that the housekeeping team probably didn't notice the issue because of the mattress cover.

« If you need excellent accommodations in Albany, NY, the BEST WESTERN Sovereign Hotel - Albany is the place to go! »

My mother and I stayed at this hotel over the weekend. We had a family member in critical condition at Albany Medical Center that we needed to be close to. We found the room to be affordable, accessible, clean, and comfortable, and not too distant from the Medical Center. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The amenities were outstanding too with a complete continental breakfast, pool, restaurant, etc. We had spent the first night at the Marriott. It was nice, but by comparison, the Best Western Sovereign was a wiser choice, very accommodating and less expensive. If I need to spend more nights in Albany in the future, The Best Western Sovereign - Albany will be my first choice!!!

    « It's a joke - pay an extra $20-$30 a night and get a real hotel »

Awful from start to finish. Poorly trained staff, dated rooms, uncomfortable beds, people drinking in the parking lot, agressive drunks in the hallway, horrible breakfast, dirty, smelly and just plain disgusting. Made me feel dirty staying there, never again. Paid cash and left a cash security deposit and they didn't provide me with any proof of either until I asked. Family staying at another hotel tried to reach me here and the staff would not put the call through to my room because they didn't have our room number. Was unable to make local calls from our room. Very disappointing considering I've had great stays at other Best Westerns, this hotel is bringing down their brand in a big way, I'll never stay at another Best Western again.

    2
    « Won't stay here again. »

Have stayed in hotels for over 41 years and never reviewed until now. As for this hotel, five floors of rooms, two elevators, one not working. One ice maker, first floor. Wouldn't you know it we were on the fifth, at the opposite end. As to our room, it looked like it hadn't been dusted in a month. A Q-Tip on the bathroom floor and the bath tub was very slow to drain (standing in two inches of water). Twin sized pillows for a king sized bed. Did I make any complaints? No. We checked in late at night and the hotel was full.

    4
« Met our needs and very good breakfast »

We selected this location upon the recommendation of a friend who lives nearby. The room was clean and modern but the hallways were a bit desolate. Desk service was appropriate and the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was much better than I expected offering a rather full menu in proper restaurant surrounding (not in the lobby!). I understand that the place can fill up during certain times when Saratoga is running.

    « They love pets! »

This is a two-star (AAA) hotel and reasonably priced. The best part is that all of the staff are very pleasant and love pets! That made it very comfortable for us. Moreover, the cost for having a pet is only $20 per stay so you won't feel taken advantage of unlike with some of the higher stars hotels who charge $75 and $100. The complimentary breakfast is very good with plenty of choices. The location is very near interstate highways. We enjoy going to buffet restaurants and Golden Corral is only a few miles away and easily found. We stayed at this hotel on our way to Boston and stayed again a week later on our way back to our home. Clearly, we were satisfied with the hotel. The only negatives I would offer is that the bathroom, at least in our room, had a counter which was a bit small and the hallway carpets could use replacing.

« Frequent guest in spite of problems »

This is a reasonably priced hotel near Albany colleges so my daughter and I have stayed here several times during her college search, and also have an upcoming weekend scheduled. In general it serves our needs but the last visit in August was problematic. I booked on Trip Advisor and upon arriving was told I had no reservation even though I had the reservation number. This got me a bit stressed because I was moving my daughter into college that weekend and was told the hotel was booked due to weddings. There was a young, dark skinned man who goes to SUNY Albany who stepped in and found me a room. I wish I remembered his name because he was really helpful and I still don't know if my lack of reservation was the fault of Best Western or Trip Advisor. Saturday evening after a long day of running around we were looking forward to having a few drinks at the attached bar but found it was closing after we got there at 10 pm. Early!! So I took a drink back to my room. Sunday morning we were looking forward to a pretty good breakfast (we've had good breakfasts in the past) but found there was nothing but a few pieces of fruit and a long line to make waffles. We were told that all the food was locked in a room and nobody had a key. That was extremely disappointing and I left this last stay pretty unhappy.

    1
    « Better stay elsewhere »

I stayed at this hotel for a wedding in August 2016 as part of a block. Upon arrival, I did not receive the welcome bag that was left for guests staying at the hotel for the wedding. Rooms were clean but with very poor lighting. Why I gave this hotel a horrible review is that I forgot my very expensive curling iron at the hotel. I called EVERYDAY, multiple times a day for a week with no call backs or answers. The front desk/reception would transfer me to the housekeeping department where no one ever picked up the phone. I left voicemail's with detailed information and never received one callback. When I spoke to someone at the reception desk, they told me that could not do anything for me and that it has to be handled by the housekeeping department. I understand that when you forget something at a hotel, it may be lost forever but I thought I would try and see if I could get it shipped back to me (I was willing to pay for the shipping, it was a curler that cost over $120). Even with so many phone calls, I never once was able to speak to someone. This is HORRIBLE service for someone who paid good money to stay at their hotel.

    5
« friendly & couteous service form the Front desk Personnel »

This was just a stop over going & coming back from a 2 week vacation further south, but would definitely consider returning for a longer stay at this hotel in Albany, & take advantage of visiting the Albany area re restaurants, attractions & amenities. we liked the city of Albany & would enjoy spending more time there, staying once more at the Best Western Sovereign!!

    3
    « Quiet »

Older hotel with nice staff. Hall carpet was dirty with some worn spots. Room was small, but it was only for a queen bed. Carpet had some detritus on it, so appears not to be vacuumed very well, or at all. Bathroom was dated and toilet seat not clean. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet even being across from the elevator and linen area. Even though it's pet friendly there is not a good place to walk your dog outside.

« Nice Hotel to stay with »

Good things First, Super Great friendly Lady at the front desk, we felt very welcome. Hotel clean rooms clean, Bed confi, was relaxed for our next 5h trip. AC good, not disturbing, Rooms In a good size, Elevator there, breakfast awesome, many variations for sure Now to the bad things, I don't have any, Any time again,

    « Always have a great stay »

Our family has been staying at this Best Western for the last year. My son attends college in the area. The rates are very good. They have a really good breakfast that is included and pretty much have every type of breakfast food offered.I have never had any issue with cleanliness of the rooms and I am take that very serious. During one stay, they were doing some construction on the floor we were staying on and it did interfere with us. I explained the the front desk and they moved us immediately. The staff at Sovereign are also just simply terrific. I think its great seeing the same front desk staff just about every time we stay there and I find it even more impressible that they remember small details about us when we check in. They are so friendly and always make sure everything is going well during our stay. The only issues they need to work on is the internet connection, it comes and goes and sometimes I lose connection for a long length of time. Aside from that always have a pleasurable visit and this hotel will be my hotel of choice when I visit that area.

    2
« No way this is a 3 Star Hotel »

Rooms are old and older. Very disappointed in the stay as we were planning on 2 nights, but 1 night was enough. Biggest issue was our expectation of a 3 star hotel and this run down place is not close to that rating. Got the Radison near the airport for the second night which was great.

    2
    « Outdated »

Rooms are old and have an order. Bathrooms are not what you would expect from what should be a nice hotel chain. Old, outdated, stained walls, floors, back of bathroom doors. I stayed here twice- the first time the room was on third floor and was a little nicer, but bathroom still horrible. Gave it another try-was on first floor and this room smelled, the air conditioner made horrible noises that kept us up all night, and again bathroom gross, beds were hard. We had 0 internet. The lobby and breakfast were fine, the staff friendly and helpful. Would only recommend for an inexpensive, one night stay if nothing else available.

« Great service, good value »

Probably the most efficient and friendliest service we have ever experienced. Clean, comfortable room, outstanding breakfast with many choices. Good value for close proximity to downtown Albany. The following is to fill up the required minimum of 200 characters. Ridiculous!

    « Disappointing stay »

Hotel lobby was nice but as soon as we started to go to our room the disappointment started. Rear elevator was old and creaky. Room had a musty smell and air conditioning was loud. Reported it and room was changed. No longer smelly but loud air conditioning. Mattress was rock hard. For the money I am sure we could have done better.

    « Good Value »

Checked into the Best Western Sovereign Hotel on the final leg of a trip and found a clean, quiet room, free parking and a nice quiet little pub next door that served up some tasty burgers to tired travelers. Slept well and departed the next morning for home. Very pleasant front desk staff.

    « Albany Best Western »

Three negatives: 1 Breakfast eggs and biscuits were unpalatable. 2 Fitness room and pool were exceedingly hot and humid (felt like 120 degrees) rendering those areas unusable. 3 Very difficult to connect to the hotel wi fi. Took 20 mites of trying for both my husband and me to get connected. Did not have time to report any of the above. Otherwise, room very comfortable, clean and everything was working well in our room. Location near downtown Albany was good. Overall very good and we would return.

    « stayed many times »

Have stayed here multiple times as an overnight stopover. I would think it would be perfect if you have something to do at the college which is right across the street. Have only had minor issues with things not working.

    « College drop off »

We dropped our daughter off at college and went into Albany for the night. The hotel was very clean. The check in staff were very efficient - it only took minutes to check in (we booked on Priceline.com). They even looked up area mall hours and restaurants for us. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The free breakfast had many choices - but the hot water for the tea was luke warm and the milk for cereal tasted a little sour - but otherwise the restaurant was busy and the other food looked good. We were close to the malls and Cheese Cake Factory; where we wanted to go for dinner. For the price - we would definitely stay here again.

« Great stop over hotel »

Rooms are clean and the beds were comfortable. Good breakfast with good warn and cold choices. Overall a better than average stop-over hotel after a long day of driving. Access to major freeways are close and easy to get to.

« One mishap after another »

The first night we arrived...everything was fine. The second day we left the hotel room for approximately 8 hours and returned to found our room not clean. I called the front desk to inform them and they sent someone who cleaned the the bathroom, but left a ball of hair in the tub and didn't bother to make the beds. Next evening, bathroom was missing towels, soap, and cream/shampoo and beds were sloppily made -- sheets were coming of and covers were crocked. We complained, were told we would be given 3000 points? which amounts to not much, and we also never received (8000 are needed for a free night). The day we left we wanted proof we had stayed there and they were not able to provide it for us (every other hotel we stayed at in the area, including the Best WEstern at the airport was able to do it), they were not able to provide us with this requests. All-in-all a very unpleasant experience.

    « What a great Hotel »

We stayed here for one night and it was great! Very surprised how nice the room were and the Breakfast was the best I got in a Hotel for a very long time! Staff was very Friendly and helpful. We stayed on a sunday night and the Restaurant was closed but we got a recommendation for a restaurant close by! Would stay here again, any time!!!

    « Best Western Albany »

The room had been used by someone who smoked cigars and staff didn't seem to worry about it, even though it is a non smoking facilty. Upon checkoout we could not get an invoice as the clerk did not know how to print one ouut. She did issue a hand written one that was not acceptable at Canadian Customs.

    « Past its prime »

An older BW. The room was small and the bathroom very cramped. Peter on the front desk was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Very close to Crossgates Mall which boasts the largest Walmart in America! Also close to Provence restaurant, one of my all time favourites.

    « Awful »

Believe all the bad reviews. I didn't, and hated my stay. Cramped room, far from spotlessly clean, ugly bathroom, paper thin walls. Will never stay there again. Will never believe Priceline ratings again. Staff is okay, but hotel is dated.

    2
« Great employees, but dumpy hotel »

Stayed here one night in August. The employees were terrific - friendly, helpful, etc. However, the hotel is old and a bit run down. The entire building seemed a bit musty. The carpeting was old and frayed, hallways were dark and dank. I won't rush back.

« An outstanding value and experience across from SUNY Albany »

I am getting giving this Best Western 5 stars even though it is not a luxury hotel. But it has everything that I look for in a hotel. It's clean, Great location, has a good bed with good pillows, a wonderful shower, friendly and helpful staff, and the best breakfast for this kind of hotel. It could use some updating, but that certainly didn't affect my stay there. It even had a refrigerator and microwave. I couldn't have been happier with my stay there.

    3
    « Staff seems inexperienced »

When we arrived around 4:30 pm, the front desk clerk didn't know if our room was ready, she had to radio someone. After about 10 minutes we finally had an answer, yes one was ready. A couple other desk clerks seemed like they didn't know what they were doing, especially one on the phone trying to give directions. Our clerk was friendly with us as we checked in. We got 2 complimentary bottled waters and chocolate chip cookies, which were surprisingly good. The exterior and lobby of this hotel seem a little old and outdated. Our room, 408 ($122 for one night), appeared updated with new fixtures and bedding. The room was off the street so it was quiet. I tried to use the room phone about 5 pm to call for a pizza delivery. I couldn't dial out and reported the problem to the front desk. They said they'd get someone up right away, but by 6 pm no one had showed up. We didn't eat breakfast here so I can't say anything about that. I would probably stay at another hotel if I'm ever in Albany again.

« In and out stay »

I don't think we were there for more then 10 hours. Shower head was super nice, I wanted to take it home with me!!! The beds could use an update. After travelling for 2 weeks it was the most uncomfortable beds on our trip. The breakfast area was so hot we couldn't breath and eat in the lobby. Staff was very nice and the lobby is really pretty!!!

    2
    « Poor stay »

I asked for a quiet room and was put directly across from the elevator. The gym was not open on the second day. the pool was not open the first day. The hallways were full of very loud boys the second night.

    2
    « Needs upgrade »

The negative review is because of the condition of the room. Needs to be refurbished. Rugs stained, toilet paper holder fell off the wall, ice bucket dirty, just to old. The breakfast area and lobby were fine.

    « Hotel Venue that Nearly Wasn't »

I want to start with the less than great, take you to the bad, and then end with the good. We booked our venue in July of 2015. We had met or rather tried meeting with several different venues in the area but none fit the bill quite like the Best Western Sovereign. They had rooms on site, they had food, and they a place for both the ceremony and the reception. And the cost was perfect. We had told Kim, our first coordinator/sales manager, that we would be in touch in January to finalize the food costs and settle on our choices for out August 2016 wedding. Everything was great until we tried to contact Kim. Instead of Kim, I got a response from Brittney who didn't seem to know what was going on. She sent me the banquet menu and told me to get back to her. When I explained that we had a contract for our WEDDING, suddenly she knew that and now we had to talk to Linda. Brittney also told us that they changed caterers and when we compared costs it was about 50% more than the original. Linda was more responsive to my husband's parents than us and ended up being ½ an hour late to a meeting. Fast forward to end of June when now we can't get Linda to call us back. Now we have to go through Felicia. She books a meeting with us and a man named Dayle. Dayle said that he was planning his own wedding and would be with us the day of ours. I was excited to have someone working with us who knew everything we were going through. Man was I wrong. Dayle changed our wedding block causing multiple guests to be told that the wedding was canceled. Then he decided that the meeting never happened and that we were making it up when we said they told us we could pay our bill ahead of the event. He also denied offering to help with the table layout and when he did get one to us, he shoved all of the tables around the dance floor, left the non-dance floor half of the room empty and tucked our sweetheart table in the corner by itself. His e-mails, when they were more than one word, were rude, overly skeptical, and condescending. He told the staff one thing and then told us another. After multiple complaints to BW corporate and just about 2 weeks from the wedding, we finally got ahold of Krista, the assistant General Manager. This is when the tide started to turn back. From here it was fast and focused. She had questions to get up to speed and we had answers. She ended up comping the after party room to make up for the stress. She was communicating with our DJ and working to get everything ready. When minor snags happened she was right there with a smile. In addition to Krista, there was also Jalesa at the front, who immediately gave us a hug and apologized for all of the insanity. Peter, front desk manager, was personally managing our block for us. The day of the wedding, Krista was on hand to make sure we stayed on track. The food from Capital District catering was AMAZING. My only snag here was that the kids' meals came out late but in a month I won't remember that, just how damn good the eggplant rollatinis were! To be fair, we were their first wedding in a long time and we had some glitches that, yes, I would change. But, at the end of the day the room was beautiful, our guests had fun, and no real stress the day of the wedding

« Nice location, nice hotel, good value for price »

Hotel was very nice, but not sure room was thoroughly cleaned. Someone else's food was in the refrigerator, brown smudges on top of comforter made me think someone may have not been to thorough in cleaning. Sleeping on mattress was like sleeping on an ironing board. If you like it firm, you'll have no issues. Breakfast room was VERY warm, not enough air conditioning.

« Horrible WiFi Internet - Not Recommended for Business Travelers »

I can understand why the WiFi internet was free. During the evening hours around 9 PM, I could not even reach hotel access splash page, forget getting to just google. I had to drive somewhere else to get a reliable internet connection. Which made this business trip to Albany difficult. This is really sad because the hotel had many good things going for it. It was at a reasonable price for Albany. My room was very clean & looked to be recently updated. The staff was friendly & helpful too. Today, in 2016, it should be a no brainer to provide a reliable internet signal to all guest wishing WiFi access.

    5
    « Fantastic staff »

We got caught in a downpour, in late-night dark of a city we did not know, exhausted from moving across country with all our pets. When I called the hotel, we were lost and tired and frightened. The fantastic desk staff asked me questions about what I could see from where I was and figured our where we were, then told me how to get to the motel. That's the kind of service we were given! WONDERFUL!

    2
    « August 2016 »

Dissatisfied. Room giving odor. Stained bed sheets. Bathroom light not working. Cabs did not like that the hotel is competing with them and charging guests for services which should be free. We were charged for transportation from rail station to hotel and hotel to station. We tipped the driver. Why then were we charged?

« Best Western Western Avenue »

Basic hotel nothing outstanding Outside should be weeded around entry and rear of building. Breakfast leaves alot to be desired Eggs are like hockey pucks and sausage not most peasant to look at all Milk had an odd taste. Past on breakfast and went down the block to diner No water was offered because my stay rating was not high enough Pool looked clean and was being enjoyed by some guest. Smoking area could be made a little more comfortable for quest that are forced outside Perhaps a few chairs or bench out of the elements!

« Only Stay Here If Needed »

Had to stay here due to a last minute trip - The hotel needs a lot of updating and it's like a sauna walking through the hallways. We went to our room and it had an awful cigarette smell to it. Luckily we were able to change our rooms immediately, the beds are not the best around either. This place is ok for an overnight trip but not for a long stay.

    4
« Great Service and Breakfast »

Family of 2 adults, 2 children, 1 infant. Booked last minute. Only a king room was available, but they brought a crib and cot when I requested. Room was clean but tight. AC worked fine. Bathroom extremely small. Older building, but they seem to be trying to update it. Some areas of hotel did not have adequate AC. Staff were wonderful! Very helpful and friendly. Ladies working in the breakfast restaurant were great! Working hard and efficient. Breakfast was extensive: waffles makers and fixings, bacon, turkey sausage, omelettes, yogurts, granola fruit, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal! Coffee was pretty good. Breakfast area did not seem to have AC, so quite warm inside. Great stop over! Have dinner at Delmonico's, their steaks are the best ever! 5 minutes from the hotel.

    « Shocking Disappointment »

We stayed here as part of a multi-day tour and sadly, this hotel was by far the biggest disappointment (and keep in mind I have stayed at Best Westerns so am familiar with the brand). To begin, our tour had between 55-60 rooms. Upon arrival, several people (thankfully not us) did not have rooms. The reason: we were "late" so they gave a way the rooms!! We are a tour with LOTS of rooms. You don't give them away because we aren't there at 7:00 p.m. When we entered our room, the stench was overpowering. Either it had been a smoking conversion gone wrong, or the previous guests smoked. As soon as we were in the room our son said "Oh my gosh! It smells like someone died in here" and proceeded to open every drawer and cupboard looking for a dead rodent. The rest of the tour felt the same way and had similar experiences in their rooms with the smell. The air conditioning did not feel very strong, the bathroom was tiny, there was no air conditioning in the breakfast area, the breakfast area was not clean--though there was a reasonable selection of food. The staff was not very apologetic to our tour members or our tour leaders. And the kicker was we still had five days left on our tour and after one night at this hotel, much of our clothing smelled of cigarette smoke. Ugh! Do not stay here when visiting Albany unless you seriously have no other option. The sad thing is that it has so much potential due to the fact that it is right near a local university. However, unless they make some serious improvements, I can not recommend this property.

    « Passing through »

Stayed 1 night in our way to Boston. Had a pleasant stay in room 210. Beds were firm, room seemed a little more spacious, the view was to the heat shaft but we didn't care, shower pressure was great. Husband and daughter swam in the pool. The breakfast options were better then most free continental breakfast. Overall a good stay at a Best Western.

    « Comparison Hotel »

As compared to Quality Inn, I found that Best Western surpasses in quality and services far better than many other hotels I stayed at over the past 6 months. It is very competitively priced and cost effective as well.

« Great one night spot! »

My family and I stopped in this hotel on our way to Boston and it was the perfect stop over, with an amazing breakfast that was included. The rooms were clean, but needed updating, our room had an opening to the outside where the a/c was, but overall it served it's purpose. I'd recommend this for people with children and I believe it was also pet friendly too!

    « Not the cleanest »

I went to store and picked up lysol wipes to wipe down eveything because you could see fingerprints on the head boards and on the cabinet doors. Just didn't look very clean. Air conditioner didn't work well other than that was average hotel, breakfast was just okay, location is very convenient.

    « Pleasant Comfortable Stay »

The staff at Best Western Sovereign Hotel in Albany NY were very polite and extremely helpful. Their continental breakfast was a pleasant surprise with many offerings you don't usually see. The rooms were clean and quiet and the beds were very comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

« Great Hotel, conveniently located in Albany »

The Best Western Sovereign Hotel - Albany, Albany, NY is a great hotel that is conveniently located across the street from the University at Albany. It's especially great for parents and families of UA students. It's clean and affordable. The manager, Gil, and his staff are very friendly and personable and go out of their way to make sure the guest are comfortable and have all they need to enjoy their stay. They have an indoor pool on premises and provide a hot breakfast every morning with many great choices to choose from. The area is very nice and safe. Also, close distance to downtown and other Albany attractions. My family and I stay at this facility every time we visit the Albany area. It's a great hotel for all types of stays, family, business, couples, friends, or just a getaway. I highly recommend this hotel for your next trip to Albany, NY.

« Dirty hotel that needs a major upgrade »

This hotel is very outdated. Our first room was drab and smelled of cigarette smoke. The bed was flimsy. We requested a new room and finally got one. But then, our room was NOT cleaned the first or second day when we returned at 4 p.m.! Had to complain before they addressed it. Breakfast was your standard fare. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone!

    4
    « Good Value »

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past year. My priority is quietness as I travel for business. I have never had an issue with being disturbed by other guests/TV/room noise. The rooms are clean and the bed comfortable with a generous number of pillows.

« The " BEST" Best Western in Albany N.Y. »

My husband and I checked in and the welcome we received at the front desk was outstanding !! We have stayed at ample Best Western's in the N.Y. and have never had such an amazing welcome . The lady's were so sweet acomidating and a nice sense of humor, however....... after entering our room and settling in I found hair stuck to the side of the tub along with a dirty wash clothe and razor in the tub. I brought it to the attention of the great lady's at the front desk and they were prompt to apologize and physically walk to find management who also was very apologetic and offered a complete refund and to have someone clean the tub or change rooms . He was very nice however I think he should save his drinking for outside of work and he wasn't wearing a name tag. All in all the hotel is definitely the best that I have stayed in as far as this chain. Everyone is very polite and acomidating! I would recommend this hotel to anyone as its also very covent to get to from highway . Its in a safe area and the provide shuttles to the hospital and will pick you up from anyplace if you have been drinking and can't drive. That has never been offered to us at any hotel. .... the rating will only allow me to select average on this review ..this should be fixed as everything that I experienced was above or below averaged! !!

« Friendly staff, great location »

We recently stayed here for 3 nights. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful at both check in/check out and warmly greeted us when we returned at the end of the day. The hotel is 5 minutes from the Thruway and convenient to Albany sights. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice. There's a continental breakfast with plenty to get you started on your day. Alternatively, there's a breakfast restaurant (Peach's Cafe) just a few minutes drive away. The City Line Bar & Grill is next door to the hotel and is a nice place for lunch/dinner. Will definitely stay here again.

« Excellent place to relax »

This BW is excellent! I will continue to stay at this hotel each time I go to visit my daughter at College. The staff was truly exceptional.. Is it close to the college and any attraction in the area. The only thing I would recommend is that if you ave a sensitivity to chlorine ask for a room that does not overlook the indoor pool.

    « Menza, Menza »

Front desk help very accommodating; hot water was not working, though they did fix this problem quickly. Fridge was broken and way too small and placed close to ground - difficult to reach in to pull out food items. Bring your own blankets if you get cold at night - they ran out of them, but did bring us a couple of extra sheets. Room decor super dark, depressing. One of the lights did not work. Desk, but no table. Maid service was good.

If you want to get away for a weekend or even one night , I always stay at the Best Western Sovereign Hotel, staff is really nice, includes free breakfast and close to shopping centers and restaurants. I find that this facility is very customer oriented. The facilities are great. The staff is probably one of the best that Best Western however there seems to be a high turn over in housekeeping staff. I do believe that most of the staff make a concerted effort to make guests feel at home and comfortable.

« Poor Housekeeping, pleasant front desk staff »

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Sovereign for 3 nights. Friends of ours stayed there as well. First day: trash was not emptied, friends tub drain not working. Second day: Bed not made, trash not emptied, friends tub still not draining, no toilet paper, smoke alarms going off due to dead batteries. Third day: we left! We did receive a 50% refund through Priceline.

This hotel was nice and provided all of the needed services. The price was good and they accommodated our group for our bi-annual board meeting. They had a breakfast service that was comfortable. The omelette was a premade type but they offered cereal and yogurt as well.

    « Emergency stay »

This was a last minute "emergency" stay for me. I called on Tuesday at 6:30 to see if they had a room available. When I got to the hotel, the staff was awesome. Check in was easy and quick. I took advantage of the pool, which was glorious. And check out Wednesday morning was just as easy. I had to call back Wednesday night, again for another night's "emergency" stay. They welcomed me back as if I were an old friend. I am visually impaired and they made things really wonderful for me. The maintenance guys even assisted me across a wet floor (freshly mopped) so I wouldn't slip. We'll done, Best Western!

    « Completely satisfied »

I enjoyed this place very much. They've improved so much the staff are lovely including the manager Peter. He couldn't have made me feel more welcomed. As well as the young lady I believe her name was Natasha, she really showed interest in all my needs and yes there were issues but she got right on it. I enjoyed it very much and next time I'm in town that will be the only hotel I will be staying in.

« Great value and Amenities »

A friend and I were looking for last-minute accomodations in Albany to crash the night before an Adirondaks hiking trip. We found this Best Western location seeking a double-bed room in a location close to I-87. We were thrilled to see that there was a hot breakfast as well as grab and go snacks available at the front counter for the morning, and ended up completely spoiled by the amenities: good wi-fi reception in rooms, mini fridge, nice tv, microwave, and very clean bathroom with large tub. Decor of room was nicely updated, particularly bathroom. Plenty of outlets and lighting, and the mattress was better than my own at home. Doors and hallway traffic were slightly noisy, but not unreasonable, particularly for a pet-friendly hotel. This was probably due to being down the hallway from vending machines and washer/dryer - a nice perk we didn't have an excuse to use, but one we will remember. Hot breakfast was overkill in a good way - everything from oatmeal bar and make-your-own waffle to hot, fresh eggs and bacon. Very impressed. Also had all the contintental breakfast fixings and six types of coffee, too. Comfy restaurant-style dining room with plenty of booths. Friendly staff with smiles on their faces. We'll be back for a longer stay and make use of that pool, next time!

    « Great stay »

This BW hotel was excellent in every way...clean, comfortable, friendly staff both on check-in and check-out, easy access to the highway. The breakfast in the restaurant had a great selection and the staff was very pleasant and professional. We did not have time to enjoy the pool or fitness center however it looked very inviting!! Thank you for a great stay!

    « Very Professional Staff »

In all my years of traveling, including the years I worked for an airline and travelled free, I have never experienced such professionalism from hotel staff. They were very accommodating and respectful when dealing with all situations. I was sitting in the lobby for over 4 hours and I witnessed several situations that could have erupted into problems, but each one was handled efficiently and no one walked away unhappy. This was my third trip to Albany in the past 9 months and the first two I stayed at a different hotel which was sold out this time which is why I ended up at the Best Western. As a result of my experience I will now always look for a Best Western first.

    4
« Good place to say if you are in Albany area »

The employees are exceptionally nice and accommodating. The restaurant is undergoing re-modeling so letting people know in advance would be good as there is little around there food wise. The breakfast is OK but not like it used to be.

    3
    « Pluses and Minuses »

Reading through other reviews would have been useful to me, as they seemed accurate as a conglomerate. So my review will "confirm" what many other reviews said. On the plus side, the lobby area looks recently redone. Very nice and comfortable. The breakfast, included in the cost, was excellent in terms of variety, service, and cleanliness, and very good in terms of quality. My room was very good in terms of functionality and amenities. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. On the not fantastic side of things, as one review says, the outside entrance area could use a sprucing up. Also, I had a similar experience to another reviewer in terms of cleanliness?"the bathroom was clean but there were leftover items on the carpet." So they need better vacuums or better vacuumers (and people checking). Overall, nice place that would have gotten a higher rating if the cleanliness was 100%.

    4
    « nice renovation »

they did some very nice renovation in the lobby last year, now I see it all finish very inviting, they also have a nice area with a dining table some coffee and lemon water. a living room with a television.

This was a very nice place. Outside looked a little run down, but the inside was updated. Beautiful lobby for relaxing in and the breakfast area was great. Bring your own pillows. They have the small square ones that are too soft. I would stay here again. Right across from Albany University.

« Best Western Sovereign Hotel - Albany saved the stay! »

During the May 27-28 weekend we book our stay with the neighbouring Comfort Inn (huge mistake) to attend the CrossFit Games East Regional at Times Union Centre. When we we arrived at the Comfort Inn we were terribly disappointed with our room, although the manager was polite there was nothing he could do. It was a very busy weekend in Albany, so we weren't very hopeful that we would find a solution. The parking lot at the Best Western Sovereign Hotel - Albany was full. The building and lawn looked beautiful; we didn't think we had a chance at getting a room. We were greeted by the friendliest manager, who listened to us and empathized with our situation. He explained that they too were booked up but there was one accessible room that he could offer us at 10% discount and complementary breakfast - we took it! The room was perfect! It was super clean and decorated tastefully, the bed was very comfortable, free wifi, great hot water pressure in the shower, and small microwave and fridge. The hotel also has a fitness room and pool, that we didn't access. The hotel was immaculate, especially in the restaurant. The staff obviously take pride in their work. Breakfast was good! There was a variety of hot, cold, prepared and fresh foods to choose from and the staff was there replenishing, cleaning and serving the guests. We were pleased! To top our stay off, we ran into the fittest woman on earth, Katrin Davidsdottir and her coach Ben Bergeron. It was awesome to say "hello" and wish her good luck. The personal and professional manager worked it out so we could remain in the room for our second night at the same discounted rate. Two thumbs up to Best Western Sovereign Hotel - Albany!

My family and I generally stay at this location when we are visiting family. The location is convenient and the quality is wonderful for the price. I would recommend this hotel to any traveling family.

My husband was having surgery at St. Peters' Hospital and I needed a nearby place to stay. Initially we had booked 3 nights, but the surgery was delayed so we were able to cancel our first night with no problems. Hubby was also released a day earlier and they allowed me to call from the hospital late morning to let them know that I would not need the room that evening....very accommodating. Downside....I checked in about 9:45 pm and was given the room cards and when I opened my room, it was occupied (luggage and toiletries only.) A little scary for me! So I went back down and reported it and the staff apologized and said that room should be empty. At the same time, a gentleman came to the desk and said his key no longer worked and needed a new one, which he was given. We rode the same elevator up to the same floor and I was a little shocked that this gentleman was the one that had occupied the room that I was initially given. I am thinking that the security was a problem. I did not feel very comfortable in the room all evening and it was not the cleanest either. The bathroom was clean but there were leftover items on the carpet and the air conditioner vent was disgusting, etc. The price was reasonable through the hospital rates though, but I am not sure I would want to stay there again. I did not try their breakfast, so I cannot give any info on that.

All staff especially the "Big Man" at the breakfast was just top shelf he was on top of anyone's concerns everything was well stocked, several people had a difficult time with the waffle maker and this Man stood by and made sure that all involved were satisfied. The location is actually across the Street from Univ. Albany south entrance, very convenient.

The room was mostly clean, of good size. When we spoke to the desk about some mess from the previous occupant, the problem was immediately remedied. It was a last minute booking. Good, friendly service. Breakfast was okay.

We stayed for 2 nights after a horrible first experience at the Days Inn & Suites Albany...We got there around 1AM and the staff was very welcoming and helpfull. Our room was on the second floor and it was really quiet. Our bed were comfy and the room was clean! Breakfast was average - Maybe a little more variety perhaps? It was a great overall stay.

« Pleasantly Surprised, the property seems noticeably cleaner and better run. »

Many hotels were sold out this trip and after reading current favorable Trip Advisor reviews; we decided to try Best Western again. To our relief TA was correct. We stopped staying here a couple of years ago because it had become dirty, worn out and the security was so lapse it felt unsafe. BW appears to have turned the corner. The rooms were clean and tidy, all the hotel doors locked properly, the property was clean and the new lobby was an inviting place to sit. The breakfast was still nice and we had a nice dinner at the attached Mexican restaurant. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. Thank you

Location is convenient to Albany University, and to other attractions in Albany area. Motel was priced attractively and was adequate for our purpose. Breakfast was typical of most mid-priced motels and quite adequate; included eggs, cereals, pastries, good coffee, pleasant seating area. Plenty of parking around the motel. Soundproofing could have been better.

Excellent staff who were friendly and accommodating. Great breakfast options, and it was more than just cereal. Room was clean and you can adjust temperature to your comfort level. Extended check out time was given and that made a huge difference. Will definitely stay at a Best Western again!

« Great location! Quality service! »

Last year, I spent two weeks in this hotel for business and enjoyed both the service and the amenities. so when I found out that my husband and I would be attending graduation at the NYS Corrections Academy, we made reservations here. The price was reasonable for one night and the room was very clean as is customary for Best Western. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a side view of the parking lot. The bathroom was small but also clean and functional, There were many guests at the hotel that night since SUNY Albany across the street also had graduation the next day. However, every employee we encountered was always friendly and courteous, Although we only got to go into the pool later in the evening, it was still pleasantly warm and relaxing. Free breakfast is included with your stay, and the next morning, despite the large number of people staying in the hotel, the meal was both peaceful and unhurried. There was plenty of seating and it was dine at your own pace. Breakfast selections varied from hot fresh oatmeal or sausage biscuits and gravy to cold cereal or yogurt and, my personal favorite - make your own waffle! All were accompanied by hot drinks such as coffee and tea to cold juices and milk. Breakfast attendants made sure that nothing ran out. Our only issue was with the standard king size bed in our room. Someone like my husband, who is 6'4 1/2, could not stretch out on the shorter king-size bed and as a result, he did not have a comfortable night. This was unusual since we have stayed in other Best Westerns and never had this problem. At checkout, we told the front desk people and suggested that they ask the management on our behalf, to consider getting California king-sized beds that could accommodate taller people like my husband. They were very apologetic and assured us that they would make the manager aware of our concerns. This is the only reason that I rated the sleep quality less than excellent. Other than that, our stay, though short, was very pleasant and enjoyable! There are many attractions and shopping within a short distance of this hotel, so maybe on our next trip to Albany we will have more time to do more. But we will again stay at this Best Western!

    « Clean, quiet stay »

I found this hotel on my way to Saranac Lake for business. After seeing the prices in Albany, I wasn't sure what to expect from the reasonable rate offered here. I was pleasantly surprised. The desk clerk who checked me in was new, but knowledgeable, personable and funny. She was the first experience at this hotel that made it excellent. The building is older, and frankly I wasn't expecting much from the room. It was a bit smaller than the average these days, but it has been updated relatively recently, and appears professionally done. The small bathroom had fixtures that fit the room, rather than being shoehorned in. For a small space, it was well thought out and never seemed cramped. It was also exceptionally clean, which for me is very important. The TV wasn't dusty, the windows were clean, the refrigerator was clean, even the inside of the microwave was clean. Well Done! I had a king bed room, and the bed took up most of the space. It was very comfortable for me, which seems to be a trend for Best Western. My room was on the 4th floor, and there was a fairly loud group out in the halls, like a moving party from room to room. When I closed my door, it got very quiet. I had to listen to hear anything was going on. I guess that's one benefit to an older building, the materials are sturdy enough to block noise. I got a good night's sleep here, and awoke fresh for the rest of my trip. I can't speak to the breakfast here, I didn't stay to eat. I have stayed in Albany several times over the years, but I can tell you this will be the first place I look for in the future.

« Nice Place, Excellent Service, Great Value »

I had the good fortune of stumbling upon this location through the internet. Since then I have had the opportunity to stay here three separate times during the past two weeks. The first time via a search engine and the next two times by choice. The site is clean, quiet and well maintained. Just what one would expect from this brand. The service was exceptional. I want to be sure and note the professionalism of the person I have used as my point of contact. Peter Fason at the front desk, as well as every other staff person from housekeeping to hotel services, really went above and beyond to ensure the best stay possible. Thank you for making me, as well as my business, feel important.

    « Excellent Value »

My family and I have been at this facility 5 times in last few years. Never had an issue or problems. Rooms clean, the beds are comfortable (and, I'm a big guy). The Staff is always helpful and attentive. A very nice buffet breakfast (included) and the Mexican restaurant is good.

« No plugs for electronic devices to charge. »

We could not find a plug to charge our cellphones and tablets. We unplugged a lamp and a radio and then called to ask for a power strip. We were told no one ever complained before. I again asked for a power strip to be sent up. When the gentleman arrived with a strip (which was within a reasonable time),he stated there were plenty of plugs. Upon examining with us, we found only one available plug which was behind a large tv console. If a customer asks for something the hotel personnel should give the customer the benefit of the doubt that they need what they ask for. The bathroom had no place to put toiletries for 2 people. Positives: very clean and reasonably comfortable beds.

« My Stay At Best West! »

I traveled to Albany from Buffalo for a State Meeting held on the University of Albany campus. I had to take several college students with me. The host hotel was over $130 a night and needing two rooms, it wasn't the best option for me. I did an online search for hotel near the college and Best Western Sovereign came up. When I arrived, i wasn't crazy about the buildings outward appearance, but the rooms were clean and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. The price was right offering the amenities i needed, i.e., internet access and free breakfast. I didn't expect the breakfast top be as good as it was - fresh fruit, a choice of juices, cereals, egg & cheese omelet, biscuits, sausage, make your own waffle, coffee - and when traveling with youth - I feel that I got more than my money's worth!

« You get what you pay for »

A satisfactory hotel. It was fair value for the dollar...( Other hotels in Albany seemed much more expensive)... Front desk (Peter) was friendly and accommodated our request for a quiet, top floor room.It was clean and comfortable. The TV was limited and had no guide. The luggage trolley was dated and a little too big for the elevator. The free breakfast offering was awful..The coffee was cold,my wife tried the hot chocolate but the mix would not dissolve....We have stayed in numerous Best Western's and this one was in the lower class...Again,we got a good price for the place, and in this respect,we were satisfied with the experience....Clean and quiet.

From the outside the hotel looks a bit dated, but the lobby and room was nice. Check in was a breeze, the front desk staff was very friendly and engaging. They had a very nice complimentary breakfast with a lot of options. I felt the room rate was a bargain for what I got.

stayed at this Hotel for last 6 months. 3 months Night shift work and 3 months days. Rose was able to help with all reservations and made sure we were able to get rooms for early check in and were able to sleep during the day. When we changed to days She made sure we had rooms without any issues. We then met Mike, who took care of breakfast every morning, and He made sure all was ready to go at 6:30am. We had 14 guys coming down early and they were greeted with a hot Continental Breakfast. Thanks also to the management who made it all work out. Many Hotels do not give an option while working Nights. Great Job all

« Not the best experience, but not the worst »

Rooms were ok for purpose, nothing special. Staff was friendly and courteous. Breakfast was good the day I was able to eat (got sick for 2 days - not related to the hotel food). Pool area floor was dirty, friend left dirty footprints walking to the restroom. BW on Wolf Rd was better when I stayed there.

    « Needs an overhaul. »

As others have written, there are better Best Western motels than this one. This BW is tired, both inside and outside. It needs an upgrade. I would have given a poor rating but the staff is very nice and very helpful. They try, and that is a plus. The entire place, rooms, hallway, entry ... Is gloomy and a bit depressing. The beds need need replacing as do the pillows. Bathroom not particularly clean, but there was plenty of hot water. There is a restaurant and bar. The breakfast was unappealing (am being kind here). They weren't open for lunch despite advertising they were. Dinner was passable. The bar closed by 9pm on a Saturday night. Wow. It is across the street from the college entry. Believe me when I tell you that the BW gets a lot of "sketchy" people staying with them as a result. Long story short ... We would never go back. We were there for a meeting, and several of us told the meet organizer that we wouldn't do any more meetings there.

« Excellent Hotel That Needs a Facelift »

We were very happy with our stay at Best Western in Albany. Staff is friendly and breakfast is very well presented. Hallways are old-fashioned and one elevator wasn't working. New paint, wallpaper, and brighter lighting would make the hallways more inviting.

    « 2 Night Business Stay »

Room was clean and comfortable enough and the staff was beyond friendly. However, being as close to campus as it is served a few complications. I stayed on the third floor both nights. The guests were extremely loud and ran up and down the halls until the wee hours of the morning. From my understanding the police had been called multiple times. I did leave early due to not being able to sleep. The staff was nice enough and did apologize, but I do not feel I'll be staying at this particular Best Western again in the future. Which is a shame considering I travel to Albany frequently.

    3
« Many hotels are nicer than the Best Western »

SUNY Albany certainly can put people in nicer hotels than the Best Western. It is OK. The sheet does not feel crisp and clean. The bath tub is not sparklingly clean. It just does not show enough respect for the university's visitors.

« Awesome breakfast, great reception and price »

I have stayed 2 nights at the Best Western Sovereign hotel in March 2016. The room was perfect, clean and beds comfortable. The hotel itself is a little dated but you can't beat the price. Additionally, it has a full breakfast in the morning which for myself and young adult children is a great savings all in itself. The location is perfect with a nice Mexican restaurant connected to the hotel. Overall great experience and I would book there again.

« Staff made this place an absolute pleasure. »

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, with my dog, while family was having surgery at a nearby hospital. From the moment I walked in I was treated with nothing but kindness. The staff here was absolutely extraordinary from helping when I left keys in my room twice to making sure my pet was cared for, always greeting me pleasantly, helping find me a discount and asking how my stay was. Breakfast was really tasty, things were clean in my room and hallways for the most part and I felt pretty safe. The housekeeping staff was considerate and allowed me to rest. Truly a pleasure to stay here because of the kind people who work here.

    « Pretty good »

I usually will stay at a Best Western on my trips, typically the best experience. This trip was not 100% but we all have bad days. The room was clean but trouble with the tub. While I was working out of my room, they decided to wash the exterior of the building, my room being on the 3rd floor was affected...it was difficult to speak with my clients on the phone. I called down to find out how long it would be, they said until 5/6ish. But after the call it stopped. They had to replace the drain in the tub, but later that night it still wasn't fixed so at 830 at night I had to pack up and change rooms. They took care of me yes, just wasn't as peaceful as I am used to at other Best Westerns. Still ranking a 5 star tho!

    « bad idea »

Room not ready, then given a noisy poolside room. Food in restaurant was not great. Waitress could not understand English and brought food that I could not eat. I called in the evening to ask about shaving cream and was told they had some at the desk however in the morning when I went to get it they said they had been out for a while. Now it was too late to go purchase some.

« Clean and Inexpensive and a Great Staff »

We had an unexpected trip to Albany and needed somewhere close to St Rose College to stay. My husband is a member of the Harley Owner's Group and the group stays at Best Westerns whenever they can. I was able to make a last minute reservation - and I was given a very reasonable rate without any trouble. The staff was polite and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and clean. I woke up early and used the fitness room - another happy surprise - all the equipment was in good condition. The pool was big - and actually warm enough to get right in and I did not want to get out! I would stay again just to use the fitness room and pool! We had the complimentary breakfast - which was very good and situated in the restaurant with comfortable booths. I want to thank Heidi and the housekeeping staff for helping to find our forgotten cell phone that we left in the room. Everyone and everything about the Best Western was so nice - it made our trip much happier!

« You Get What You Pay For..... »

Not a horrible hotel, but the rooms were not great quality, dreary and outdated! Breakfast was nice, considering it is included in the price of the room. Bring your own pillow, the ones at the establishment are poor to say the least! Amazingly friendly, helpful staff.

« Good stay for the money »

I don't usually report on one night stays. Too short to evaluate usually, but BW asked me to do iit - soooo--: Everything was fine except for two things: 1. The bed was too hard for my liking *sand I sleep on a Sealy Firm Posterpedic), but that's a personal thing. 2. Could not connect to their network. WiFi connected but neither the front desk or I could get it to connect to the BW network (which usually is automatic). Hence, no ability to use. Breakfast was outstanding. The best variety I've ever seen for the price. Included anything you could think of for breakfast. Overall, I was satisfied and would stay again

« Nice room, good price, but... »

This hotel was a good deal, but be very careful using the Bestwestern.com web reservations. It would NOT allow me to use my Best Western Rewards number to receive credit for the stay unless I paid a price $12 higher than the good rate I first found. Asking for an AARP rate made the room rate INCREASE to $20 more than my lowest quote. An hour on the phone with 3 representatives who each tried to get me to apply for their credit card but "did not see" the low rate until I sent a screen shot of my computer screen was additionally frustrating.

As I was in Austin, Texas and was arriving by plane into the Albany, New York area for sporting event found this hotel to be an easy drive to the the Times Union Center. Accommodations were clean and check-in very efficient with the help of Rose at the front desk. Family was travelling to Albany arriving by car at different times and their check-in went without a hitch. Recommend using the hotel website. Breakfast was substantial and in a nice environment situated away from the lobby in a restaurant type setting. Our group consisted of 5 adults and four children. Shuttle from airports does not run after 10pm...cab was under $20. would return.

This hotel is really exceptional overall for the price. While it isn't fancy or luxurious, it more than meets basic hotel needs. « So bad! Wish I could find anything good to say! »

I hate to leave a review that doesn't at least talk about one positive thing, with that being said, there is nothing positive to say about this place. To begin with the elevator is so small. It barely fit my family of 5, let alone anyone else in the entire hotel. It took forever for the elevator to come to the floor and get us too. We first walked into the room to see a small room with an ancient microwave and desk with chunks of wood missing. I enter the bathroom to see the round toilet bowl with an huge oval shaped toilet seat and cover that hung about 4 inches over the toilet. The cover on the toilet tank was also too big for the toilet. It's weird and gross! We opt to try a dip in the pool. Oh boy! We left our room waited 10 min for the elevator to bring us down only to be greeted by maintenance who told us we had to put shoes on. So we had to go all the way back up to the room to get shoes, which we were forced to wear back with water dripping from our bathing suits onto our only pairs of shoes. The pool was old and dimly lit. The towels were BATH MATS! No joke, bath mats! Our nights sleep wasn't any better. The beds are hard as a rock and the pillows are so old! Breakfast in the morning was also subpar. Cold and gross. Nothing like I was prepared for. I wouldn't come back to the place for free. I strongly caution you if you are even considering this place!

    « Great Staff »

We were in Albany for my son to attend an "accepted students day" at the College of Saint Rose. The hotel had a wonderful staff, particularly Shannon. Everyone was nice and welcoming. The room was fine (the beds did sag however and they had the wrong fitted sheets on them). Everything was clean and it was a comfortable stay. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Value for the money and a friendly, accommodating staff...what more is needed?

« My Stay Was the Best »

Whenever I travel to Albany, NY to attend the an annual Black, Puerto Rican and Hispanic Legislative conference, I choose Best Western. This is my second time staying here. The room is suitable and comfortable. I can adjust the heat, which is important since I travel during the winter. The rooms and the bathroom is always clean. I don't have any problems connecting to the internet and the restaurant food is excellent. The only area I hope they address is to offer better food choices for their complimentary breakfast. It would be great if they offer turkey and vegetarian products as well as a fruit salad. Lastly, the staff are pleasant, helpful and professional. I would recommend a stay for whatever your purpose while your in town!!

    « Nothing special »

This was an affordable place to stay while my husband was in a nearby hospital. Things i observed were: The housekeeper did not dust the room and I could write my name on the bedside table. The walls are thin and I could hear tvs and talking from adjacent rooms. Was surprised to see a fridge and microwave in the room. Free breakfast was good except there are no trays to bring anything back to your room. Not sure I would stay here again, mainly due to the thin walls.

I would not recommend the Best Western on Western Ave in Albany, NY. There was strong odor throughout the hotel. The odor did not continue into the room but the bathroom water had a strong odor when it was used.

« great hidden value, perfect location »

this was a great stay, helpful knowledgeable staff, perfect quick hot breakfast, exercise room and indoor pool, free parking, nearby good restaurants, in hotel restaurant. The location's perfect for all business and errands, not stuck in the traffic and noise of downtown nor trekking out to the airport area every evening to stay in the more upscale hotels. In room fridge and microwave made a convenience of midnight snacks and late hour work dinners. the desk , free internet and room features were perfect for contracting work and late night computer report writing.

« Okay hotel, nice people »

We wanted to stay at a place near our daughter while visiting so we stayed at this place which is pretty much right across from the college. We first got there we were given a room, when we got to the room, there was already someone in it with the door open. We went back down stairs and how could they not know someone else was in that room? We were given another room, it was pretty nice, not too noisy, served it's purpose. No clean up the second night...why don't they come back to the room later and clean it when you are out? Free breakfast...all i can say is skip it, both my husband and myself got ill. I would not eat there again. Go down the street and and get a bagel at uncommon grounds. Check out was a breeze. Just an average hotel, nothing special. Supposed to be non smoking but people were smoking because we could smell it on the first floor we happened to get but we did not notice it on the floor we were on. Economical hotel. Comfortable.

« Good Stay for the Money »

I was visiting my mother in the Hospital in Albany and was recommended to this Best Western about 15 minutes away. Very economical for the price I paid through the hospital but I was by myself. Friendly staff and all the usual amenities but if you can spend a little more you may want the Marriot or Hilton right by the hospital.

Excellent service and very clean and comfortable. Will likely be staying here again as I am a travel nurse and value my comfort and sleep! Very close to the hospital where I am currently working. Enjoyed the on site restaurant as well.

« GO somewhere else shame on you priceline 2.5 stars DUMP »

So walking through the lobby doors trying to fight to open them AUTO DOORS DONT WORK Handicaped go somewhere else. I was givin a room on the 5th floor, Front desk clerk told me to park in the rear of the building i'd be closer to my room. Upon coming in the back door going to the elevator it was out of service so I had the pleasure of walking to the front of the building stopping at the front desk asking why send me to the back door when elevator doesn't work and i have to use the one in the front. After getting to my room i turned the heat on to listen to the squeeling of the motor. They then gave me a room on the 4th floor yup again all the way in the back, because the only working elevator was in the front of the building. So then later after returning to my room there is no TV or should I say cable was down per the front desk (funny the bar had cable but no my room) i called the front desk again to ask for a heater HEATER IN THE ROOM WASN'T WORKING We cant do anything for you because your leaving in the morning. Well now i'm heating the room with the blow drier, writing this review because i'm to cold to sleep there is NO TV and the bar is closed. The 2nd fl hallway is warmer than my room I think i'll grab my blanket and finish trying to sleep in this fridgid room. i work outside anything seams warm except this hotel. did I say I hate priceline for the stars they gave this hotel. This review took lonjger than usual because the Wi fi here keeps failing

Great service, good food and awesome amenities. The staff is simply the best. The facility is located near several excellent eateries and bars. My particular bathroom could use an upgrade. Other than that, it was great.

« Great for the price »

I would highly recommend this hotel for the price and the location. The beds and pillows are great, and I wanted to have these pillows for my home. The staff is very helpful and the hotel itself is very clean and the bathrooms are well kept. I would stay again without hesitation.

    « Good for a short Stay »

Overall experience was fine. The hotel room was clean and neat. It was one of the coldest nights in albany however room temperature was comfortable. Had some trouble with hot water in shower in morning (may be due to too cold outside). Breakfast was average however does the job. Overall satisfactory experience.

« Quite a bang for your buck. »

They renovated the hotel recently and did an excellent job. My only complaint is that they need better oversight on the housekeeping and maintenance. As soon as I checked into my room I flushed the toilet (with nothing in it) and it overflowed. I went to get ice, the ice machine on the first floor was out of order, I then went to the third floor for ice, that machine was out of order too. Finally the ice machine on the fourth floor worked. I then decided to go for a swim in the indoor pool, no towels, not a problem I went back to my room and got a towel. After a swim I decided to use the men's sauna and it too was out of order. The hotel does offer a great buffet style breakfast that is hard to beat. If they would just pay more detailed attention to their property it would rate higher. One last thing, their WiFi leaves a lot to be desired.

The hotel is a little worn, but very clean. My room was clean and very comfortable, with internet, refrigerator and microwave. The continental breakfast was included and had a great selection of items. The staff was exceptional. The rates are great for this place, I would recommend this hotel to everybody travelng through Albany or especially a to anyone looking for a great place to stay when someone they love is in the hospital

    « Extraordinarily Friendly Staff »

Renovations finished, lobby is modern and welcoming. Each staff member I encountered (houskeeping, desk, cleaning) greeted me with a friendly smile and a genuine "welcome." Whoever is training is doing a superlative job. This atmosphere makes the guest feel valued and that he wants to return. Yes, the physical property is a bit "shopworn", but my rooms have been clean and comfortablle. I will definitely return here on future trips through the Capitol area.

« As Far As Best Western's Go... this one is just "ok" »

Went to Albany on a weekend trip to visit a friend. Was looking for a dog friendly hotel and ended up here. The hotel seemed pretty dated and not up to general Best Western standards (my favorite hotel chain, so I've been to a lot of them all over the country/world). The staff was friendly and accommodating. I had to change some things about my stay the night prior and they were quick to change it. The room, for one person and a 20 lb dog was tiny. The bed was close to the wall on both sides and the bathroom was not large or modern. I asked for a room close to the door as I was going to have a dog and ended up being in the middle of the hall (however this was a request 3 days before coming so perhaps they could not help this?) I was also right across from the elevator. Why any hotel puts a dog room right across from the elevator is beyond me. My dog barked all night from being in a new place AND hearing the sound of the elevator and people coming and going all night. My dog stays in hotels all the time and we don't have this issue when there's no elevator involved. Plus there is next to no grass, and parking is kind of confusing and difficult. Location is good.

    « disappointment »

Stayed 2 nights at the hotel. Noticed that most hotels now have cameras around the outside to look after vehicles. This didn't! Hotel had a pool but it didn't have camera's watching the pool which most do, especially if there are rowdy people. Breakfast was great the first morning, but the second they had kids in for a conference or meeting and they took over the breakfast area. I felt as a paying customer I shouldn't have to stand to wait to sit or stand in line for food! I waited until we got home and I e-mailed the site. My response was that their policy prohibits people who are there for meetings or conferences to use the dining room! I provided information, who the group was, then got a second response that said YES, their were people in that morning but they weren't in the eating area. Then I sent 2 phone pics showing the overcrowding and all I got was a sorry! Will never stay their again if I need to in the area...

Updated rooms and newly remodled lobby. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Little things are great ex. the heat/ac is positioned away from the bed so it doesn't blow directly on you, and a nice shower etc. Staff is professional and friendly. Third stay here and rooms are always clean and comfortable. There is nothing over-the-top here but if you need a nice place to stay at a great price, look no further.

    « Wonderful visit »

The hotel is a mile from where I was spending Thanksgiving. Everything about this hotel was wonderful: price, friendly employees, tasty free breakfast, comfortable room and bed, and location. Joshua, the manager, welcomed me as soon as I approached the counter. He even offered a bottle of water and cookies for being a rewards member. Thank you.

« Ok but needs some attention and updating »

I feel bad writing a three star review but I do think people should be warned that if you have a mold sensitivity you should look elsewhere. The first room the windowsills were flaking paint and lots of black mold. The sheets and curtains were torn. The second room the mold was a little less but still there. There was a really gross stain on the chair though. The pool ceiling was leaking. The people who work there are super nice. They are by far the hotel's strongest asset. And it was fine in other ways - generally clean except for those things noted above. Quiet and comfortable bed, good buffet breakfast for your buck. If you don't have a mold sensitivity and you don't mind things being a little worn, this place is fine if you get a good deal. But really the owners should step up the maintenance a bit.

« Clean Hotel, Friendly Staff »

Stayed one night to visit SUNY Albany. Location is great as campus is directly across the street. Hotel Lobby, restaurant and room were clean. Did not visit the pool. A little pricier than other hotels in the area but cleanliness was worth it. No HBO in the room as advertised.

« Good buy for the money »

This motel does not rate with some of the more costly motels in Albany, but it was fine for one night. It has a Mexican restaurant connecting to the lobby, a very large well-kept indoor pool, and an excellent breakfast buffet. We also found the staff very helpful and friendly. As far as the rooms are concerned, cleanliness is not a problem, but we did have some issues with one shower that didn't drain well and felt some of the mattresses could use replacing. Overall, for the money we were satisfied and would recommend the motel, especially for anyone who wanted to be near the university. It is also only about 10 minutes from the NYS police academy.

    « Best Western Sovereign Hotel---Albany, NY »

The strength of this hotel is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They are outstanding. Not a single staff person was unfriendly. They went out of their way to help and to make the stay a pleasant one. The room itself was fine. This is not the most updated hotel; however, it is more than adequate. However, the hotel shines in terms of its staff and in terms of its breakfast (held in the restaurant and a large selection of items).

« Great Pet Friendly Hotel »

Finding a pet friendly hotel can be rough, so I'm relieved to have an option now when visiting family with our dog. The rate we paid was insane (in a good way). Our room was only $71.90, plus $20/day for the dog. Well worth it. The room was fine. It was clean, somewhat updated and the bed was comfortable. They had a really nice complimentary breakfast. The only real complaint I had is that I would have expected a grassy area nearby for the dog to go to the bathroom, but there wasn't really much. Just a 2ft wide area next to the fence.

« Great Hotel, conveniently located in Albany, NY »

The Best Western Sovereign Hotel is conveniently located across the street from the University at Albany, walking distance. It offers clean and comfortable accommodations. The rooms are of good size and comfortable. There is a nice bar and restaurant on premises. The breakfast is great too. They serve a hot breakfast with many options, which is included in your stay. There is something for everyone. There is also an indoor pool on premises. The staff, is very professional and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable and you have all you need for a pleasant experience. The Manager, Gil, is awesome. He regularly greets the customers with a smile, so wonder the staff is so great! The rate is very reasonable. A great place to stay for pleasure or business.

    « hard to get a good night's sleep »

It was hard to get a good night's sleep because the bottom sheet did not fit the king size bed and kept coming off. We had reported this on a previous trip but no one seemed to care and nothing had been done about it. We have stayed here many times over the years but do not know if we would go back. They have just renovated their lobby. The staff is helpful. The breakfast is the typical motel breakfast. The strawberries for the waffles had turned bad.

« Hotel in sad state of disrepair »

As mentioned before, the doors are worn and scratched, the hall carpet are dirty and the soundproofing is non existent. We could hear conversations in adjoining rooms and in the hallway. Our bathtub made bubbly sounds while the neighbors showered. We expected their dirty water to pop up on our side. Ewww! This hotel is in dire need of repairs. We stayed there because we needed to stop for the night and always had a good experience with Best Western. Big disapointment this time.

    1
« Not what we expected »

We chose this hotel for two reasons, one was proximity to what we wanted to do during our stay in Albany. The second was that it was pet friendly. No where did I see that there was an extra $20 charge for that. That should be mentioned on all travel websites, especially it's own, which it was not. Ok, not the worst, so I thought I could let it pass. Then, Above the shower, the wall paper is peeling and moldy. The wall paper behind the door on bathroom wall looked like a bad tie dye job. There was also a weird odor in the room. As we were getting ready to leave, I noticed particles on the floor in the bathroom. I thought maybe drywall repair or something else, then upon further inspection, it was KITTY LITTER. I haven't purchased kitty litter in over 10 years, so I know it wasn't from us. Because we were travelling with our dog, I understand that other dogs may have made mistakes. I just didn't want to have to pay extra for us not leaving a mess. We were also force to sign a waiver or contract about having the dog, not so "friendly". The amenities: the shampoo was definitely used before, it had dried up soap around the cap. We were thoroughly disgusted and disturbed that at 7 am we couldn't wait to get out. We were even afraid to shower before we left. No one should be afraid to get clean in a hotel. The bottom of the vanity was severely scratched. The toilet seat was cheap plastic and there was a cheap plastic lid to the back of the toilet. It reminded me of a bad bathroom fixit job in a trailer home. Not so Best Western worthy. As I went to check out, I took my dog around the entrance way and tried to look at the restaurant and breakfast options. I inspected the Lobby and furniture in it. As I checked out, I did explain to the front desk attendant that the beautiful entrance and Lobby had no direct reflection on the room we stayed at. I then proceeded to tell her what I found and wanted to make sure we didn't get charged for any messes or anything else. She told me that she would have housekeeping look into it. You might want to look into these things if you are to rent out room 119 again.

    « Look elsewhere »

The staff were terrific, mostly. Front end people were extremely helpful and polite but that is where the appeal ends. Room was dirty in both the need to refurbish and the need for a thorough cleaning sense. There was a gummibear on the floor under the table in my room when I arrived. Mildew on the bathroom caulk, broken toilet tank cover, a burn in the carpet, beds are tired and old, wifi was very slow when it was working (intermittent) fruit flies in the elevator and other things. The housekeeping staff (who I saw or spoke with) did not seem to be professionals in the work at all. Mostly men, seemed like program type folks working an assignment versus doing something they do regularly. The lighting in my room was awful and one of the beds was pushed up against the window making the window unusable unless you were in that bed and the curtains inoperable because the bed was against them...weird. There are other places to stay within minutes of this hotel, I'd suggest trying one of them.

Clean room in good location. Bathroom and room are spacious. Bed is hard and pillows are small but slept decently. Very good price.

    « A Quiet Weeknight Stay »

The great service at the front area was inviting, as was the open, modern decor. The staff was polite, and even asked if I had a floor preference, which was a nice touch. It distracted me from the faint "off" smell in the lobby, which was a bummer, but the rest of the stay was good. The room was clean; one of the double beds had an old, creaky mattress, and the other was nice and firm. One of the bedskirts was torn. The bathroom had a newer sink, but the rest of the unit seemed a little worn and could use updating. There was a flat screen TV (sadly, the remote was missing its batteries), armoire (too short to hang a pair of pants without folding over a hanger), and desk. Even though I was on the fifth floor, I was still surprised at how quiet it was, considering that this hotel is right off of busy Western Avenue. I would stay here again. It's not the nicest place I've stayed, but it does the job, and it is in a location not far from restaurants, coffee spots, malls, and the like.

    « Worst Western »

My husband booked a room here during the week while visiting our son who was seriously ill in Albany Medical Center. He claimed the room was nothing special--it was a room. We came back to Albany to see our son that Friday. He requested 2 double beds, we got a king bed. The room was so small, you couldn't move about comfortably. The bed was as hard as a rock. The sheets were so scratchy I had to lay on top of comforter then use coats as blankets. Bathroom is tiny. They only have one person to shuttle patrons about town and/ or to the airport so you cannot come and go immediately. The Mexican restaurant attached to the building is expensive. We passed that up and went to a local sandwich shop. All in all, not a comfortable place to stay.

« One of the worst $130 a night hotels I've ever stayed in! »

Any one who gave this more than a 2 star is full of it! or stays in incredible dumpy hotels. We arrived on a Friday evening and upon arrival asked about a late check out on Sunday. We were told that it "wouldn't be a problem" and no mention of a late check out fee...more to come. The lobby was nicely done but that's where it ended. After the lobby the hotel looks nothing like the pictures it has on it's site. The carpets where all nasty old with lots of stains and raunchy smells. We got to our room and there was a hollow door so imagine the sound proofness of that...NOTTA! We got inside the room and the bed sheets didn't fit the bed, our room smelled terrible (dank, moist, and mildewy), and the TV was so dark you couldn't really watch it and see the picture. We called about all of this and nothing was done and no one came up to our room to check it out. The air conditioner was so loud you couldn't run it...once again called to complain about it and all they said was "sorry can't do anything about it." The bed was like sleeping on a piece of plywood on top of a slab of concrete. Bathroom: no hot water, sink cabinet had pieces of cardboard propping it up so that it was "level". We were there for 2 nights and had to call to the desk at 2 am on Friday because a room close to us was having a loud party...they did nothing. We had to put in ear plugs and turn on a white noise app on our phone. This happened on Saturday night as well and went on from 12-3 am...yet again the hotel staff did nothing. Remember my comment about the TV from earlier...well luckily (or so we thought) we brought an iPad with us and were going to watch some Netflix...Free Wifi!!! Hahaha....that is of course assuming it would work. To be fair it did work about 50% of the time we tried to utilize it. We called the front desk and they said sorry nothing we can do about it. We know there are issues but we are trying to switch providers and we can't do anything about it. Awesome customer service. So back to the late check out question we asked upon check-in...I checked Saturday night to make sure they had us on the late check out list for Sunday. They did but then they said we are going to have to charge you $50.00 for the late check out (remember how I said there was no mention of this upon check-in). Well there is nothing in their policies that state they charge for late check out either. I am a very calm and rational person and I asked to see the policies that I agreed to with this and they couldn't produce it. I asked to speak to a manager and the guy said he was the manager and there was nothing we could do about it (to his credit he handled the conversation in a calm manor). On Sunday morning prior to leaving for the Mohawk Marathon we triple checked to make sure they had us on the late check out list (so we'd have time to come back, shower, and get ready to fly to Orlando). Well it's lucky we did because they didn't...I wish you could see my surprise face. I told them that we had asked for this three times now and they had confirmed the night before that we were on it. We ended up getting back to the hotel a little before noon and the only person who seemed to be human that worked at the desk of the hotel let us know that if we were out by 12:30 pm she wouldn't charge us the $50.00. So we hustled and got out at 12:20 pm. I checked out to make sure of what the final charges where...thankfully they didn't charge of us anything else. Since when did you start paying $130 a night for a crap room, terrible customer service, and a brick to sleep on? I've stayed in some pretty low cost hotel rooms that have been much much better than this. After we left Albany we flew to Orlando and paid less than $80 a night for a room that was better in every way shape and form and to top it off the customer service was awesome. If it wasn't for the fact that there were no other hotels (with rooms under $300 a night) with rooms available within a 30-45 minute drive we would have went somewhere else. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel was very nice. The staff was exceptional, all the way from, check in, restaurant, maintenance, etc. All were very friendly and very helpful. The most unexpected feauture of this hotel is the breakfast. Walked around the front desk expecting danishes and coffee & there was only coffee. :( I asked the staff wiping the table "did we miss the danishes?" He said OH NO! go over to the restaurant and go into the left room. Awsome, eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, toast, danishes, muffins, oatmeals, potatoes, cornedbfeefhash, and so much more to list. Was an very nice change from a stale danish in a bag! Two thumbs up and a 5* star .

Occasional barking dogs (pets welcome) and noisy partiers. Attached restaurant is passable '80s mall Mexican.

Went with boyfriend to show him what my college life was like a few years ago. We weren't able to check in until 3pm because it was sold out. I was fine with that. We got back to the room all tired from homecoming activities and wanted to sleep. As soon as I showered n got into my pjs & opened up the sheets to get in I had to jump back. Dried BLOOD was all over. Front desk came quick n fixed it but it shouldn't of been there. It was clearly noticeable and room attendants should get fired. I'm still waiting to get a discount.

    « What We Expected »

On October 9th we stayed one night at the Best Western Sovereign. We arrived at 10pm and were greeted by an informative receptionist who quickly checked us in. The room was a good size, clean and had a tidy bathroom. We had a view of the car park (lots of spaces. We enjoyed the well kept pool although there seemed to be some sand collected at the bottom edge of the pool which thought was a bit odd. There was only one towel available for the 5 people swimming and we asked reception for clean towels and were politely promised new ones immediately but, they didn't appear in the 30 minutes we were swimming. The breakfast from 6:30am-10:30am was good and plentiful and was fully stocked for the full 4 hours. Checkout was smooth and overall we give this convenient hotel, which is near the I-87 a solid 3/5! We have no complaints (apart from their disregard toward restocking towels)

Good value for our dollar but this establishment is sorely in need of a major refreshment. The walls in the room and bathroom were dirty, the lobby area is passé and the front entrance of the hotel is not at all evident. Well situated and very nice people at the front desk.

« Solid rooms, service and wifi need improvement »

The room itself met our needs. It provided a clean and comfortable stay. Housekeeping paid attention to most details, although I noticed dust above the dresser. Lobby staff could use some improved training. Check-in took longer than expected after a long night. During our second night the desk agent was bombarded by guests complaining about broken locks, key cards and other preventable issues. We were on line because our keys stopped working, forcing us to walk all the way around the hotel. Wifi was almost non-existent in the room. It (slowly) worked in my laptop, but not my mobile phones. Cell service was also spotty. The breakfast was plentiful. I'm not used to seeing corned beef hash at a hotel breakfast and it was a welcome change. The hotel could use new waffle irons. They were well worn and require a lot of spray to prevent sticking.

« Not the best and not the worst either! »

Lobby is clean and brightly lit. Staff very friendly. Parking lot and most of the hotel is in fair condition but could use and upgrade. Carpets in the hallways are dark and LOOK dingy, but may be clean. A couple of parking spaces are caving in. Wi-Fi is pretty UNuseable. Most of the time there is NO internet connection, and when it is on, it won't be on for long! I get 4 bars with Verizon, but no data unless I go to the outside of the building and walk around. This morning there was no hot water. It IS located close to UALBANY and Crossgates Mall and the NY State Office Complexes. If given a choice, I would consider staying elsewhere, but alas, the state is paying for my stay here. It is NOT a bad place, but it is definitely showing it's age.

I enjoyed the comfort of this hotel. I also liked the restaurant attached. The staff was friendly and efficient. I liked the comment card you could put on your door to ask the cleaning staff for extra pillows and blankets and to tell them what was the best time to clean your room. It was easy to make a reservation and was a good price.

The bedding is excellent and luxurious. Everything else in room top-notch. Good location close to SUNY campus and on main street that will lead you downtown if needed. Adjacent Mexican restaurant bonus for margaritas and accompanying food and snacks.
