"Has the possibility to be much better"
JennyH4323, 26 Février 2024

Shared spaces of the hotel are really nice, cute even, and reminds me of boutique hotels with their special interior. However the room was not nice. I booked this for a personal, romantic get-away and took superior room. There was nothing superior about our room, it was sad and depressed with its blue striped wallpapers all over and 1st floor is never satisfaction to me. I reached out to the reception staff about this, but unfortunately they were reluctant to check if there would have been other rooms available in higher floors. We were really looking forward to a visit in one of hotel's bars, however bar in front had way too much noise and then the one in the back had like no music, no atmosphere. It would have been nice to be able to still enjoy music even though you don't want to step into almost nightclub vibe with the noise (the front bar). Don't understand why there was no music at the back bar. A shame. I am gluten free and there were not much options for gluten free diet in the breakfast. Luckily there were some fruits and yoghurts to enjoy. Gluten free bread was not good, there were just rolls, which were cold (I do realize the problematic feature of gluten free bread and how fast it goes bad and that's why it's stored in the cold) and no toaster next to it for only gf bread, no knife to open the rolls and to put to the toaster to make them bit better. That's a must for gf bread. You could make gluten free and allergy section bit more visible and desirable, but add the text allergy section there. Otherwise I liked the breakfast room, but shame the good tables were already reserved and we were seated next to a waffle station. We didn't even know there were possibility to book the nice table in advance.

"Disappointed"
Claire C, 26 Janvier 2024

One of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. The room size is very small. The bathroom is a joke, had to step up a huge step into the bathroom, the toilet is in the corner of the bathroom and you can't sit in it properly as there is no room. So we had to sit on it side ways. The bathroom had a smell. A hotel that has ear plugs in the room is a huge red flag!! The music from the bar was so loud, I don't understand why they have it so loud and speaker on the street so the whole street can hear it. The bed frame is bigger than the mattress so your pillows disappear when sleeping The breakfast is a joke, the bacon all tangled together the coffee super strong one day and not the next so no consistency, I don't like to share a table with people I don't t know because there is not enough seating. The pastries were old. The lift is not big enough to have all your luggage in.

"A great hotel from which to explore Stockholm"
BruceM2089, 18 Septembre 2023

This hotel has all the modern conveniences that you would expect, but also has a very attractive historic ambience which sets it apart from most others. The decor is different in each room, and I liked being able to open my windows. It is located in a classy central part of Stockholm, and has easy access to most main sites of interest. A good buffet breakfast is included, and I really enjoyed my three night stay. Note that room prices can change significantly from night to night, subject to supply/demand.

"Fantastic Location, But a Night to Forget"
Lior S, 18 Septembre 2023

The noise level in the room was absolutely intolerable. Throughout the night, there was blaring music with heavy bass, incessant loud conversations, shrieking, and raucous laughter. The relentless slamming of objects and the constant clatter of empty bottles made it feel as if I were trying to sleep inside a nightclub. Given the circumstances, my only respite came from seeking refuge in the bathroom. On a more positive note, the hotel boasts an excellent location. The staff I had the pleasure of interacting with were delightful, exhibiting a friendly and pleasant demeanor. Additionally, the breakfast offered by the hotel was satisfying and enjoyable.

"Great hotel room until 11pm"
Adventure16300682787, 05 Septembre 2023

The hotel room that we have facing the same direction as hotel entrance was bright, good size and comfortable. I was happy about the room until 11pm. The music from the nightclub near the front of hotel was so loud that even earplugs were not able to block out noise. The loud music continued until 5am all 3 nights that we were there. I should have read the 20+ reviews with similar noise complaints.

"A feast for all the senses"
Autolysej, 16 Août 2023

Beautifully designed hotel with an incredibly accommodating staff. Each room is differently decorated and all are gorgeous and comfortable. Convenient to all the major sites and public transportation. And one of the best breakfast buffets I have ever had.

"Useless Airco. Room not cleaned."
TheGlobalFinn, 27 Juillet 2023

We had three nights at the hotel in a family room. The higher floors are in the attic of this old building. The Airco couldn't get the room below 24 degrees even with moderate summer weather outside. Our room wasn't cleaned for properly during our stay. We got fresh towels once. The bathroom also floods if you shower more than a minute. In general, this place is understaffed. We weren't expecting the Ritz. It is a Best Western hotel. But even at that basic standard, this was quite poor. Coffee machine ran out of beans by the middle of the breakfast session etc. We'll Airbnb next time, since we had to clean our roof ourself anyway. Location is decent, the room size was ok.

"Hotel That Transcends Time"
melaniehJ5512YY, 30 Juin 2023

Prestigious hotel. Room and room floor decor transcends you back in time. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food and drink options are impressive. I was thoroughly impressed with exception of the bathroom. Not of all rooms but I guess since I was in corner room 310 the bathroom was extremely small. I couldn't sit on the toilet without hitting my knee on the sink. No room to put on clothes. The shower doors did not stop the water from running into the bathroom floors. I had to soak up with all the towels in the room. I suggest not staying in room series ending in 10 on any floor. Oh forgot, the fan was very tall and the air flow was strong. Much needed for the hot summer this year. Thank you

"Citybreak"
Dragos P, 21 Juin 2023

Everything was great from the room, to the breakfast and staff ( except the ones from the bar which seem bored and not so happy to serve…). Location is close to everything and food is perfect. Rooftop is nice but small and you have to pring the drinks from the bar on the ground level

"Berrylands Belles on tour"
suefraserathome, 18 Mai 2023

Fabulous hotel, lovely clean rooms and bathrooms. Very comfortable bed. Really friendly and helpful staff who contributed to such a great weekend. The buffet breakfast was the best I've had in years. Great location in the centre of Stockholm.

"A pretty hotel but my stay was very disappointing"
Karina D, 18 Mai 2023

I was disappointed with my stay from the moment I arrived, at 10pm at night, after a day full of flight delays. The reception area was part of a bar full of patrons and very loud music. Communication was very difficult and when I checked in I was told my room was not paid for, which it was, and it took three attempts to clarify that I was staying for 6 nights, not 1 or 3. It was not a good start. I was on the phone until 1am with my travel agent who had sorted it out while I slept, however, reception in the morning showed no empathy or explanation. My room was on the sixth floor and on two occasions I had to walk through a private party to get to my room, also needed to wait for for turn to use the lift after party guests. My room was small and strangely decorated with lots of desk lamps, stuffed toys on my bed and a wardrobe so close to the bed you have to sit on the bed to open the doors. For a stay if almost a week it felt stuffy and hot in a room without any windows to open. Mostly I found the reception staff unfriendly except for one young man who delivered a fan to my room to help cool it down a bit. I was surprised there wasn't a small fridge in the room, pretty standard for most places, especially a four star hotel. The focus seems more on the bar/restaurant side of the business and not the hotel guests. I received a "thank you for staying" email half way through my stay, as I have said, I did not feel welcome as a guest at all.

"Brilliant stay"
799heleng, 15 Mai 2023

We have just enjoyed a visit to Stockholm and stayed in this hotel. It was brilliant! The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff are so helpful. The food was really nice and all dietary needs were catered for. The hotel was really clean and the rooms were lovely. Each with their own unique character. The rooms had everything that you will need. We went in a large group and the manager and staff could not do more to help us. They really made us feel welcome and ensured we enjoyed our stay.

"Good hotel in the centre of Stockholm"
Dr_Bestione, 04 Novembre 2022

Good hotel in the centre of Stockholm, decent bar and restaurant, original and quirky rooms, not particularly good value, but what is in central Stockholm... Convenient for metro stations and about 20 minutes walk to Gamla Stan. Has a small roof terrace on the 6th floor.

"Never will We visit Hotel Kung Carl again"
LeneIsbye, 15 Octobre 2022

We have never seen a doubleroom this small! The furniture in the room looks as if they had used leftover from somewhere else. Nothing matched in colors or style. The bathroom however was newly restaurated, but it was also very small. One positive thing was, that the room was clean. Beside this there is much noice from the bars in the area during Friday and Saturday night. We woke up serveral times because if the noice. However the hotel had earplugs in the bathroom, but they were not very efficient. We will not book a stay in Kung Carl again.

"Amazing"
Jack02, 13 Septembre 2022

Great location. Beautiful XIX century restored hotel. Super friendly reception staff who upgrade you if there's a chance (happened to me twice). Thank you for that!!!! Beautiful big bedrooms (careful - they also have single rooms which are small). Big bathrooms. Super comfortable beds. The only downside are slightly chaotic breakfasts because the dining space is a bit too small for everyone to sit comfortably. But it's not important compared to all other great things about this hotel.

"Nice overnight stay on business trip"
Tomi_Wickman, 05 Septembre 2022

Centrally located quality hotel. Nice spacy room with bathroabs and water heater with tee or coffee. In room safetybox. Really friendly and professional wellcoming at the reception. Very nice breakfast with lots of variety even though the warmer part was a bit modest. Everything just works.

"Charming Hotel in Stockholm"
iplayazi, 10 Août 2022

We stayed at this hotel as a family of 5, reserving two rooms - a family room and the smaller room as well. The family room with bunk beds was absolutely perfect for our family. We found the room spacious with a nice view as well. The hotel is located near many restaurants and bars. We didn't find the street noise to be a problem. The elevator is very small, so we chose to take the stairs to our rooms on the third floor most of the time. There was a wide selection of items to choose from for breakfast, although we did have some trouble finding a place to sit in the restaurant.

"Time to part ways"
D9063GIkim, 05 Août 2022

Visit my husbands family every year and have stayed here each time in past. Have not been here in 2 years due to pandemic and much as changed. Room was dirty, especially the bathroom which smelled of sulfur/sewage/rotting eggs. Asked in advance for room with balcony, got room 630 with small circular windows and told all rooms were booked. Checked the website and to the contrary I could have booked any room I wanted as almost every level had availability. Breakfast used to be fabulous, not so anymore . After the first morning we ate breakfast elsewhere even tho it was included. Sorry Kung Karl, this is where we part.

"A classic hotel"
timoroso, 01 Juillet 2022

We have been here twice. The cruise company has some kind of deal with the hotel and you can often get a room at a very affordable price for a hotel of this level. Everything works smoothly, the service is great and the rooms are charming. This time we also got an upgrade, so it was an even better deal for us.

"More pluses than minuses "
johnsZ1019BJ, 14 Juin 2022

Hard to disagree with most others reviewers. Utterly delightful staff, friendly and unfailingly helpful. Excellent breakfasts and in a pretty good location - albeit surrounded by the more pricey restaurants (but aren't they all exxy in Stockholm?). Our room (124) was quite spacious for a European hotel at this price. Great water pressure in the bathroom and the mini-gym was quite adequate. However there are minuses. No air- conditioning - a real drawback approaching summer. Even at night our room was way too warm for the inevitable doonas on the bed. The windows opened (yay!) but with the cool air in came plenty of street noise. The lift is like a broom closet and takes ages. I watched my life ebb away waiting for it. I'd come back because i know what to expect - but it's a late winter /autumn proposition without air-con. Think twice if the daytime temperature is 20C or above.

"Disaster from the beginning"
sacw, 23 Avril 2022

Arrived early, waited in the messy bar area.. after more than five minutes asked why not being taken care of despite having made reservacion and people just grabbing tables. Blond waitress stayed behind the bar until I askex again… Finally disappeared and return.. ” Come with me to the FIN BAR.. what?!? To the so called ” Better Bar” we went.. A dark cave without oxygen.. Asked if we could have table by the window that I could see… No I think not the waitress told me!! I didn't think my hosts would like the cave so waited in the street until they arrived.. Back in, get a table in the bar area with windows.. why?? They mentioned the owners. Service, terrible. A so called waiter asked us to pay the luncheon bill in the middle of it ” we want to close the bar bill now”.. Now?!? Before Coffee!? No water after 2 hours, food not very good.. Chefs should be able to know difference between avocado and spinach AND poach eggs! Cannot recommend … note line to reception.

"Coffee break"
leilei00009, 11 Avril 2022

Came in for coffee from the busy street and a walk. Tasty coffee with oat milk, nice and pos decor and great service. Even though it was lunch hour, and most guests were eating, we were allowed to have a coffee and sit on the cool arm chairs!

"An estate from a scary movie"
Rofida84, 16 Mars 2022

Came here for a conference. The hotel is really old. Which might be charming if they had renovated some parts of it. The elevators were old, the reception didn't even have a luggage room. The staff were extremely impolite. The girl who checked me in didn't even have the patience to add my membership number to the reservation! The room itself was really unpleasant. It's like it's from a horror movie. The room looks like someone had died in it with old squeaky furniture. It seriously sounds like the furniture is going to break any minute. When I told the receptionist about my experience and that I was uncomfortable in the room, she did nothing about it. She kinda ignored my bringing up my experience as a problem and told me the hotel was full. She didn't even check what rooms were available. The rooms are so old that you can hear everything through the walls and the floors. Every step your neighbor takes and every conversation they make. The only positive thing about this place was the lounge and bar area that had a cozy old timey feeling to it. I will try to change to another hotel as there are much better hotels to live in here in Stockholm.

"Hotel Kung Carl - Home of the Bourgeoisie"
Madelene E, 13 Février 2022

Prelude: As many of you certainly know, booking a hotel is no easy feat. There are many aspects of the hotel to take into consideration as you choose the perfect stay for your vacation, staycation, conference, treat etc. Not only does it have to fit your requirement, but also the requirement of the special someone you might bring with you, whether that someone is a friend, lover, or one night stand. Working all your wishes into one single stay may prove difficult, especially since many hotels do not list their more negative aspects for good reason, and thus we have written this review in hopes that it will bring some light to Kung Carl and help you decide whether this is your hotel or not. Background: Meeting someone from online in real life can be a daunting experience as it is, and the nerves sure were building up for both of us from the moment where we decided that we wanted to see each other. We had barely been talking for three months, but we both could tell that there was something more there than just friendship that we both wanted to explore, because what can you win if you don't put a little bit of risk and excitement into your life? Stockholm seemed like the perfect place, with RyanAir tickets from England going for under £100 return and train connections to Stockholm made it easy to get to and from the city. Besides, who wouldn't want to visit a city which had been dubbed the Venice of the North. Now, January in Stockholm is far from Venice in the Summer, we will admit that, but the frigid cold temperatures and harsh winds of the winter didn't prevent us from booking the trip from the 14th of January to the 17th. It was hotels that proved to be the real challenge. It would only last for a long weekend, Friday to Monday, but Stockholm offers an abundance of choices, ranging from more affordable price classes to “sell-your-liver-and-live-like-a-king-for-a-couple-of-days”. Locations were spread out as well - but with the excellent metro system that is built up under the ground moving around isn't a big challenge - nor expensive. We both quickly decided a budget of £600 in total for the hotel, as we felt it being justified as this would be the first time we met up and we did want to go a bit more bourgeois than we both usually did. In the end the cost did go closer to £650 as we settled for Hotel Kung Carl's De Luxe Bath, hoping it would fit most of the requirements we both had for the hotel. In depth review: Hotel Kung Carl is located on Birger Jarlsgatan 21, fairly central in Stockholm and on the opposite side of the very luxurious and famous Stureplan shopping district. The building, from the outside, has an old charm to it, as the hotel is over 155 years old. The street running outside is fairly busy during the days, a lot of moving around, and during normal circumstances Stureplan becomes a haven for partygoers during the weekend nights. With the covid restrictions we were lucky that it instead quieted down during the evening, though the hotel did seem to block out most noise from the outside. The first, notable feature for us as we stepped into the lobby was the size of it. A small desk, located right next to the bar area, made it all feel very cramped - especially in the current climate with Covid. Check In itself wasn't much to comment on, they did however inform us we had to ask for late checkout the same day as we would checkout as they could not promise us they could offer it - something that seemed seemingly strange to us. Usually it is easy for hotels to note down a late checkout on a room from the start, but we did not bring it up as we didn't feel like causing a stir. Once Check In had been dealt with the very kind receptionist informed us that they had a Jazz Club that evening, which you could reserve a table for at the restaurant, where they would entertain you with Jazz music and delicious food. As we had a previous arrangement already booked, this was something we didn't have the chance to try out and thus will not bring any comment on. The elevator to the chamber floors were located in the middle of the restaurant - something else we found odd. Walking through a fully seated restaurant where music was blaring and guests were trying to enjoy their time while you're carrying your luggage was an odd sensation. We'd much prefer to have the elevators separate on the side so you'd not disturb the other guests. And there was only one, fairly small in size, which meant during rush hours - as check in/check out/breakfast time - it was very busy and hard to catch. Something that caught our eyes immediately as we got to our floor was that the carpet in the hallway had big stains of dirt on it, looking like it hadn't been cleaned properly in several days - maybe even weeks. For a hotel of this standard - as it is labeled as a four star hotel - and to this price you would expect a certain level of cleanliness to it. The room we got was located on the fourth floor and was the De Luxe Bath, their second most expensive room, only being beaten by their Victoria suite. The room was spacious, with an exhibitionist bathroom located in the same room as the bed. Only a thin veil could be used to separate the two rooms - hardly giving any privacy and would not even go the whole way on the curtain rod. Luckily they had the sense to put the toilet in it's separate room to the side, something that couldn't be seen in the photos on the booking site and made us very concerned that we would have to become very comfortable with each other in a short amount of time. A spacious Queen bed (double bed in Swedish measurement) was placed in the middle of the room, the model being 4 poster-bed known in times past as a saxon bed. It felt strange to see such a massive frame without the very distinctive curtains decorating it, as if something was missing. Just a bare shell of what it could have been. Speaking of missing, over the bed there was clearly a place for a big light, maybe even a chandelier, as we could see the outlet and hook for it. Yet no light was placed there, leaving the bed area covered in darkness as you turned on the other lights in the room - unless you turned on the bedside table lamps of course. While we mostly have brought up negative aspects of the room we do have to praise it as well. The view from the room was amazing, the big windows let in a lot of light during the day, and was excellent for practicing your moody staring poses. The bed was very comfortable, sturdy, and gave great back support - though it did not keep the noise away from the late night and morning activities. The bathroom had heated floors with its own thermostat you could use to regulate how hot you wanted it to be, together with both a big shower and an exhibitionist bathtub. The bathtub, unfortunately, had a cheap feel to it was made out of plastic and not porcelain - once again something you would expect better for the price range. The separate toilet room isn't really worth mentioning as it was just a toilet and a sink, nothing can really go wrong with that. Otherwise there was a mini fridge, TV, Nespresso machine, two regal armchairs, a desk, and some tea and coffee together with a kettle. All in all most of the things you could ask of a room. Everyday before three o'clock housekeeping came around and cleaned the room - it should however be noted that it could've been done better as we could easily locate dust on the paintings and clock in the room. The clock itself wasn't working, as it seemed to only be there for decoration, which once more left a cheap feel in your mouth. There also were cracks in the paint and the wallpaper had begun to scrape off on certain areas in the room, while these are not major points in any way they're also fairly simple things to fix. Once again, the room did go for £650 for three nights and for that price we felt as if they could have fixed it up a bit more. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and nothing bad can be said about it. There were a lot of different choices for breakfast items, as well as drinks, and it all tasted amazing. To help prevent breakfast from getting crowded they had arranged slots you booked yourself into for the weekend. The one thing, from a British point of view, to comment on was the lack of a full English Breakfast - something the Swede did not miss out on. We unfortunately did never get time to try out the restaurant, bar, or café that belonged to the hotel, so we will not consider those into the final summary and point scoring in this review. Pros: + Good sized room + Heated floor in bathroom + Good bed comfort wise + Good breakfast, good variety (Missing one thing from the English bloke's perspective) + Great Location for walking to several locations and easy access to public transport + Lovely staff Cons: - Lack of lights over the bed especially missing the opportunity for a chandelier in such a bourgeois room - Stains on carpet in corridor from elevator to room - Dust in room in relative easy to spot locations - No proper lobby - Elevator located inside the restaurant, small elevator, busy during breakfast/rush hour - Elements of the rooms interior felt somewhat worn out considering the cost, paint peeling, and wallpaper splitting etc. Summary: Hotel Kung Carl provided us with a lovely stay for our first time together, and did bring many happy memories for us to build upon. While we did enjoy our stay tremendously, we do feel as if it fell short on many points which should have been easy to fix. The cleanliness of the corridor and the room itself shouldn't have to be commented on for such a bourgeois hotel, the very clear lack of a light source over the bed could be quickly spotted by anyone. The elevator's odd location and relatively small size bothered us quite a lot, especially after spending such a long day outside and coming home tired and having to walk through a full restaurant. All the small imperfections of the interior of the room should have been checked and fixed on a regular basis, especially for the second most expensive room they could offer. Would we recommend you to stay in Hotel Kung Carl? Absolutely, the hotel has very good qualities which made the stay very enjoyable. Is it worth £650 (8000+SEK)? Here is where we're going to give it a no. For that price we had expected more of the hotel, in terms of cleanliness, quality of the hotel, all in all the general feel of it. If we had chosen a different hotel for the same price we might have gotten more out of our money than we did at Hotel Kung Carl. If you want to stay at this place we would recommend you to go for some of the cheaper rooms. For the final score of the hotel, after much deliberation and weighing the pros against the cons, we have come to the conclusion that we wanted to give this hotel a 3.5/5 rating. We found it to be a fair rating, and if they fix the smaller, easier cons then we can definitely bump it up to a 4/5.

"Not worth the money"
Hertered, 01 Décembre 2021

Bad hotel. Found (used) ear plug on the floor next to bed. The lampswitch is so dirty I want not touch it - the same with the tiles in the bathroom ( brown liquid stains) and the mirror frames and the floors and the door frame and the … Had to check the bed linen, and it seems to have been changed (that'S why two stars). Not so funny in Corona times - if you can't even do the bare minimum of cleaning how could this be a COVID safe hotel ? Was really surprised that this seems to be a 4 stars hotel - would have guessed 2. Really low standard furniture (painted IKEA?) and interior. It's like they tried to kit out a hotel - but had no money.. The only good thing about this place is the breakfast and its staff. The bar staff (evening( couldn't find nuts, champagne glass etc. (OMG). Don't waste your money. Come here for breakfast - nothing else

"Things are slipping."
peter7173, 03 Novembre 2021

Stayed here twice before and been happy with our stays but something has happened, and not in a good way. Let's start from the beginning. I was celebrating my 50th birthday so my wife hade ordered a bottle of sparkling wine at arrival. It was in the room when we arrived but had probably been there for a while since there was almost no ice left in the bucket and was lukewarm. The room is a junior suite but standards are deteriorating, there is a chandelier in the room with 10 lightbulbs. Here there are 4 different kinds of lightbulbs and one of them is not working, it doesn't look good. In the entrance there is a spotlight with 3 lightbulbs but unfortunately only one is working which leaves the entrance rather dark. Beside the bed there is 2 spotlights, one for me and one for my wife. Mine doesn't work since there's no knob to start the light and adjust it. It's all in the details and here a lot is lacking. The carpet in the hallway is so dirty, like somebody has driven a dirty bike trough, surely the staff must have seen this. If vacuum it doesn't do it, then bring in a carpet cleaner. Yesterday we wanted a drink around 2 pm, went to the bar but the bartender said we should go to the bar at the entrance although the sign there indicated they don't open until 3 pm, but he insisted. We went there, just to be told to go to the bar we just came from. Having stayed at a couple of hotels this year in Copenhagen and Malmö we both agree that the breakfast at Kung Carl is the least attractive, both in presentation and what's offered. On the positive side, the staff is friendly and quick to clear the tables. Next time in Stockholm we'll try another hotel, it's sad because this used to be my wife's favorite hotel in the capital but not anymore.

Centrally situated within walking distance of theatres, concert halls and the wonderful Djurgården with it's preserved nature and many interesting art museums. Nice and personally furnished rooms, kind and helpful staff, reasonable prices.

"The best hotel in Stockholm"
AuroraRoamer13, 12 Août 2021

This hotel is amazing! A great central location for exploring Stockholm. Incredibly pet friendly, with a great park across the road. It's a lovely 10-15 minute walk to Gamla Stan. Wonderful breakfast included in price, & a really kind, professional team running the hotel!

Truly a great experience. Had a beautiful room with the most comfy bed and a beautiful bathtub, overlooking kungsgatan. The team of Therese is the most welcoming, heartwarming people! Huge shout out to Gabi, front desk, for being so genuine and spreading good vibes.

"A great place in a great city"
koneserka11, 23 Janvier 2021

It was by far not our first stay at the hotel. – We just love coming back there! – The hotel is situated in the city center, which makes all the sights or shopping areas, as well as bars and restaurants within a walking distance. It`s clean, and has recruited the nicest and the most firiendly staff available! What is more, there`s a very nice restaurant where delicious breakfast is served - always with regard to local produce and local customs (delicious lussekatter, gingerbread cake). This time we weren`t let down, either. – The room we got was spacious and full of character, with beautiful decorations, such as an old clock or beautiful chanedlier. What is more, since the room was situated on the top floor, we got a skylight and round windows, which added character to the place. – It was incredible to look at Christmas preparations from high above, in the center of the city! The bed was very comfortable, with immaculately clean linen. – So were the towels.

"NYE staycation"
AndreaSthlm, 03 Janvier 2021

We stayed for one night over NYE and had a wonderful experience! We got an upgrade to a tastefully decorated room with a large terrace on the top floor, from where we enjoyed the fireworks! The staff at this family owned hotel with rich history is amazing and the location is perfect, right next to Stureplan, close to everything Stockholm has to offer. Truly feels like a home away from home!

"Super nice visit at Stockholm oldest hotel."
rightforyou, 28 Décembre 2020

I lived in the Victoria suit, it was amayzing with the sauna and bathtub in the room. The only thing a notised was the door handel in the little toilet were broken. Otherwise it was beutiful view and if you are going to stay at King Carl you should defintly book this romatic room. And a special thanks to one of the employee Siv that mad this stay possible. Thanks for your brilliant service!

"Great Hotel in city center"
184henrikm, 24 Novembre 2020

Great room and perfect location in city center. Perfect hotel if you want to be close to everything, The room was newly renovated and the choice of materials was carefully selected to suit this hotel. The breakfast and its selection was reasonably large.

"NIce stay at the heart of Stockholm"
HelenaN78, 23 Novembre 2020

Clean, friendly, cozy - a unique place in the heart of Stockholm. All the rooms hav their own character. Coffee and minibar in the room. You can bring your dog along as long as you tell in advance. <3 Loved it.

"Dissapointed"
Richard-Roadman, 31 Octobre 2020

When you look at the website the building and rooms look very classy. In reality it it cramped and overdue. The rooms are small and there is to much, worn down, furniture in it that makes the room even smaller. Also there are several electric gadges inroom but no manuel how these work or what the do to be found. The walls are thin; you hear the neighbours flush. Wifi is medium. Beds were ok and there is an inroom safe and fridge and coffee/tea kettle. Bathroom is small but fine and clean. The tv has only Skynews as international channel, Everything else is Scandinavian(with many english spoken programs). Location is central but can be noisy, hence the earplugs provided. There is 1 elevator which is in the middle of the bar/restaurantarea which gets pretty crowded in the evening and there is no regular staircase in the hotel. Breakfast is oké. Several hot and cold items; but no fish; which must be part of it when you advertise with Scandinavianbreakfast. In the weekends it gets crowded and therefore you must make a reservation for a timeslot to eat. Didn't receive the best westernrewards acknoledgement at check-in, nor any stayted BW rewardsperks. All in all I was dissapointed with the whole experience. Next time I will take an (BW)alternative, enough other options available

My home away from home. Stay here whenever business takes me to Stockholm. Beutifully decorated, wonderful staff, great location. Breakfast could be a little more imaginative, but the breakfast is nevertheless good.

"Lovely traditional hotel"
SteveThick2020, 21 Octobre 2020

Smallish twin room, shower was difficult to not flood, room servicing spasmodic and staff had a habit of using the limited lifts at busy times. Comfortable beds and good facilities despite this. Common areas very pleasent and breakfast good.

"Large rooms, interesting building, great location, breakfast OK"
LWA_Sweden, 07 Octobre 2020

Large rooms, interesting building, great location, breakfast OK but average. Stayed in Deluxe room, just one night and went to Centralbadet nearby for a bit or relaxation the next day (highly recommended!). Would stay again

"Gorgeous and with a great location "
Micinic, 28 Septembre 2020

This hotel is really gorgeous, and has REALLY comfortable beds. Breakfast was fine, not the biggest selection (might have been due to pandemic times though), and everything was clean and nice. Because of the location, you will get some noise from either the street or the restaurant depending on your room's location but we actually didn't find it so disturbing - pop in some ear plugs and you're good. The minus? Well, our bathroom was huge and looked great - until you took a closer look and found the crack in the shower wall and the damage on the tiles...fix that, and it will be top notch!

"Old fashioned nice hotel in central shopping area"
Per-Arne_Krus, 24 Septembre 2020

Friendly staff and we got a nice room with matching colours on fifth floor. We ordered weekend brunch which was surprisingly good! Poor breakfast with no extras. Hotel is placed really central with Stureplan as "neighbour". Close to exclusive shopping as well as lot of restaurants.

"Beautiful and cosy"
ElenaMunteanu111, 24 Septembre 2020

Amazig hotel with its cllasical architeture and beautifully decorated rooms. The reception staff is very calm and warm with tourists. You feel at home in this charming and friendly hotel. Its a great place to stay with friends or alone even for longer time. There are a lot of bars and clubs nearby. The hotel reflects the elegance and the aristocratic spirit of one of the beautiful areas in Stockholm.Perfect location.

"Really nice hotel with friendly staff and great breakfast"
IdaE, 14 Septembre 2020

First of all; what a wonderful reception staff you guys have! Great job hiring those women! ;) So calm, friendly and down to earth genuine. I loved my room 405 on the corner, but I would recommend others not to choose this room on weekends. The windows are just above Birger Jarlsgatan with all the clubs and bars. It was a big difference between weekend and weekday in sound. Extra tip for cleaningstaff: Don't hide the free earplugs behind shower, I found them just before check-out. But fortunately I brought my own :) Maybe place them in the basket on desk or on nightstand. I really enjoyed the breakfast, just couldn't find that many vegan options unfortunately :( Also the vegetarian dinner at the Restaurant "Kung Carls bakficka" was great! See you again soon!

Love this hotel! Perfect location, cosy atmosphere, really nice and “at home felling” rooms. And above al, the staff is excellent!!! So sweet, helpful and service minded. Stay at all five stars in this city but prefer Kung Carl⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"A perfect Hotel"
AuroraRoamer13, 11 Août 2020

Beautiful surroundings, welcoming reception. Exceptionally dog friendly. Amazing view! We stayed in a deluxe double and we were not disappointed! I've seen other reviews referencing noise. We were on the 5th floor, and to be fair Stockholm is a capital city! It's never going to be quiet! For us that was part of the charm, and also the reality of such a great central location. Wonderful breakfast. A full 10 out of 10!

"Very customer friendly during this pandemic"
anniemh5, 20 Avril 2020

I was booked at Hotel Kung Carl for this summer, and with this pandemic I felt it would not be safe for me to travel. I reached out to Kung Carl and they replied promptly. They really worked with me to find an agreeable solution to my dilemma. They really went above and beyond for me. Thank you Hotel Kung Carl for your terrific customer friendly service. Wow! Ann

"Great location"
KlauKele, 28 Mars 2020

Staff in general was not professional but at least smiled and was nice. The breakfast was tasty but again the staff didn't know how to treat a client, many things were missing and we had to let the staff know to replace it etc.. I have booked two rooms and one of them had window to the inside of the hotel lobby so no view, no fresh air and you couldn't open it.Make sure you request a room with a real window. The location of the hotel was great.

"The best hotel!"
347hannar, 11 Mars 2020

If you want to stay in the centre of Stockholm and be close to everything, this is the place to be. The staff is friendly, the food is really good and the interior of the hotel is lovely! I truly recommend this hotel to everyone!

"Great location/ fantastic service"
chanellebaker, 09 Mars 2020

My absolutely favorite hotel in Stockholm which is perfectly located with easy access to great shopping and key sights. Approximate 20 minute walk from central station with metro access as well. Front desk staff are genuinely welcoming and incredibly service-minded and the cozy lobby area currently hosts jazz entertainment on Friday nights

"Nice room in cosy hotel"
KarenSarah_12, 08 Mars 2020

Very nicely situated in Östermalm, close to shopping on Drottninggatan. 20 minute walk from central station. Cute hotel, lots of charm, old fashioned rooms with a lot of character but modern convenience. I asked if they had a room with bathtub available and got a big double room with jacuzzi! Loved it! Good quick service too.

"Good location and lovely hotel."
patricew394, 26 Février 2020

Cozy hotel with very good location and cozy courtyard. Lovely room for me and my two children with balcony. Very good breakfast in a quit lobby and where there was most of it. The staff was nice and helpful

"Good location"
lellemorgreta, 25 Février 2020

Cozy hotel with very good location and cozy courtyard. Good breakfast where there was most of it. A little disturbing street noise at night. Nice bar that had jazz nights which was really nice. The staff was nice and helpful

"Noisy environment, located next to night clubs"
alo6, 09 Février 2020

This hotel would be great had they soundproofed the rooms and windows. Unfortunately this is not the case. You can hear your neighbors talking, watching TV, walking on the hardwood floors. Also, the hotel is located next to some of Stockholm's busiest night clubs, and the windows are nothing to write home about. Avoid if you're a light sleeper. Especially on weekends.

"Never again "
AlexWed, 05 Février 2020

Good looking hotel and nice location. Overall friendly staff, doing what they can... However, rooms where too noisy due to nearby clubs banging music till 5am ... no sleep And, having to fully pay the rooms at check-in felt weird, almost offending... guess they wanted to ensure we would not leave the second night and enjoy the music again till 5am Trip was booked directly with the hotel, not via a platform, so they knew this was a trip for 2 adults and 3 kids... I would not recommend this hotel, but rather Diplomat or Nobis which provide a superior experience for similar money!

"Good location but room very old"
vanoup2020, 01 Janvier 2020

Room absolutely doesn t look like what it looks on the website. We booked a family room, on the website rooms look like very cozy and recent . Our room is really old , with a very small bathroom. It s disappointing... nevertheless the location is really good .

"Pleasent stay"
UlrikaN142, 10 Décembre 2019

My only complain is small and thin towels in the shower. Otherwise it was a wonderful stat in a cosy room and a hotel tjat feels like a nice livingroom. It's price worthy! (We lived om the tio floor) I will surley be back again.

"Perfect location"

Fam-AMT, 09 Décembre 2019

My stay at Hotel Kung Carl was for business purposes. It's a very nice hotel at an excellent location. Easy to get to by tube as well. The food is nice and the overall service outstanding. Breakfast is very good as well, the buffet offers a wide variety of choice.

"Beautiful building"
matsbergstr0m, 08 Décembre 2019

Really nice room with a view of Stureplan. Majestic building in an old style. Nicely decorated inside with a good bar/lounge including live music. Only one problem; parking is difficult and available parking houses are very expensive

"Beautiful Hotel"
TheManWithNoName1, 03 Décembre 2019

This really is one of the nicest hotels ive stayed in Europe. Brilliant location, superb service and the breakfast in the morning was top drawer! the only negative (if I am pushed to have one) is that the room was a little small. It was a standard single that we booked and though we received a double bed the room around it was the bare minimum. But that is literally the only thing I could say. Thank you to all the staff who were very professional and efficient in their roles. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Birthday celebration"
580mathias_, 02 Décembre 2019

Excellent location, nice room and one of the cities most comfortable and most silent bars. We will be glad if we have the opportunity to visit this hotell again. But in fact there was a bit of noise at the street friday night, but doesn´t bather us.

"Fashionable hotel, perfect locations, but with room for improvements "
Tor G, 29 Novembre 2019

Location Great location, walking distance to an ocean of restaurants, bars, cafes and different things to do. Staff Very friendly and helpful staff Atmosphere Being the oldest hotel in Stockholm it has a unique atmosphere with a inspiring architecture and a cozy bar and breakfast area. Breakfast Not that great. First of all the scrambled is not made out of real eggs and has a strange sweet taste to it. The scrambled eggs are something that I really look forward to when I stay at at hotel. Bacon is to soft and bathing in fat. The coffee machine is also working only 50 % of the time. On the upside, the cheese was ok and the offered a limited selection of gluten free things. Breakfast set up has big room for improvement. Gym Small and the treadmill did not work when I was there. Rooms Clean and unique, but with some flaws. In my room the shower head was broken. Elevator It takes forever to wait for it. Take the stairs. Would I go back? Nah, not unless I had to.

"A nice hotel in the middle of Stockholm, in Stureplan area"
Kjell B, 27 Novembre 2019

We arrived in the afternoon and enjoyd our delicious halibut fishmeal with a nice wine at the prebooked table. The waiters were swift and nice, and the jazzconsert at the same time was really nice. The employees at the frontdesk were positive and helpful, and the breakfast was rich and good. Our room was clean and nice. We consider to be returning guests, soon and we recommend hotel Kung Carl

"Perfectly located for exploring Stockholm."
E P, 19 Novembre 2019

Beautifully appointed well thought through suite on 5th floor. Balcony wrapping around the suite overlooking main street. Fitted with sauna, walk in shower and bath. Centrally located. Staff very helpful, personable; they went out of their way for me. Room service was fast and food excellent. It's a busy hotel in a busy part of town so can be loud outside on weekends but I knew this before booking so was ok with this. Breakfast was ok. Will absolutely be staying in the suite again, Wonderfully comfortable and spacious. The hotel is perfectly located for exploring Stockholm. Highly recommend.

Stayed here 3 times now and love this hotel. Location is very good and nice service.. Breakfast can get a little busy if your not there before 8. We always stay on leverl 5 with the double balchony at the back which is quieter than the front which can be a little noisy at night..

nice hotel and room size aligned with Sweden size. unacceptable that all room where supercold and picture showed in the reservation different from what offered. the person provided separate heater to warm up the room. Nice breakfast but very slow service with all automatic machine for coffee and water/juice not properly working in early morning. reasonable for nordic country the towel in the room but not enough for a 5 star

"classy and cozy"
jwr-warsaw, 01 Novembre 2019

Excellent in every way, from style to food to music to location. i would like to stay there again. I particularly appreciated the free coffee all day long, which is so heart warming after stopping in late in the afternoon for a quick refreshing cup.

"Nice an cozy hotel"
Anneli H, 01 Novembre 2019

Lots of character in a great location. A really nice breakfast and serviceminded staff. We had dinner at the hotel one evening, and the food was great. We will stay at this hotel again on our next visit to Stockholm.

"Just as it should be!"
Westnorwegian, 22 Octobre 2019

From entering the reception the service is nice, friendly and with the little extra that make you feel welcomed. The rooms are quite different, however the once I have seen are all nice and with everything you need. The breakfast is very good, with the little extra. The location is also very good, close to much of the central parts of Stockholm.

"Super hotel in Central Stockholm."
christopher c, 30 Septembre 2019

Super hotel with lots of character. The rooms are well decorated and have lots of charm. It doesnt feel corporate at all. Its close to lots of good places to eat. The food in the hotel is good also. Freindly staff make you feel welcomeat all times. The bar in the evening is pleasant and comfortable. Drinks prices are bonkersexpensive , as they are everywhere in Sweden. But you just have to bite the bullet and drink less.

"Stockholm perfection"
Irene T, 24 Septembre 2019

Beautiful and unique hotel with perfect location and outstanding staff. Each room is designed differently. Breakfast buffet is gorgeous and delicious! We could walk everywhere we wanted, including Vasa, Skansen and Nordic museums.

"Nice experience"
PONGDADDYOFT, 23 Septembre 2019

Excellent location. Centrally to everything in Stockholm. You could get anything you need in just a few steps. Front staff were very helpful. However if restaurant can be more friendly would be much better. Room size was a bit too small for 2 adults and 2 children, especially the bathroom was extremely small compare to other hotels I've stayed (or it may be Swedish's hotel standard). My room (hotel's main entrance side) was very noisy at night especially on Friday night. That's why the hotel gave us earplugs. If you close the window, it will be better. Finally, we're happy with overall service and will recommend to others but avoid those rooms on main entrance side as there are night clubs opposite to the hotel. Will stay again if will be in Stockholm next time.

"Very nice, comfortable, centrally located, awesome interior decor/architecture, great food, pleasant crew.."
UKHNZ, 18 Septembre 2019

Individually decorated rooms. Helpful service personnel. Breakfast buffet was very high standard in beautiful setting. The building itself is beautiful with the inner courtyard transformed to into part of the hotel bar where live music is preformed some evenings. The location in the center of it all is unbeatable!!

"Excellently located Stockholm Boutique Hotel"
MorayJohnny, 15 Septembre 2019

Hotel review – Hotel Kung Carl I had more difficulty than usual in booking our Stockholm hotel, and we found out why on the plane ride into Stockholm from Brussels. Turns out that 11,000 neuroscientists were gathering in the city. I was unable to get us into the two recommended hotels, but eventually found Hotel Kung Carl on a “Best in Stockholm” list, and I took a chance. It turns out that this gem is perfectly situated in the center of action, and is a delightful 143 room establishment with professional and friendly staff. It is in the center of town, convenient to most everything, including restaurants & transit. We chose the “with breakfast” room, and the room and the breakfast were excellent. I had been advised to upgrade from the ‘standard' room because it was small, and our larger room was perfect for our needs, with views on 2 sides of the hotel, and a balcony. The bed was a featherbed, and we slept the sleep of the dead in it. The bathroom was small, but the shower water pressure was excellent. The breakfast room and the breakfast, was delightful, with one quibbling objection – there was very little fruit, but lots of cold cuts, yogurts, make your own waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, poached eggs, and every bread that you could imagine, along with some unusual, but delicious, fruit juices. Once again, the breakfast staff, just as the bar staff, were friendly and professional. We had a delightful stay at this charming boutique hotel, and we recommend it to you!

"Excellent hotel"
123Liz321, 05 Septembre 2019

The hotel is well located. Next to the hotel are a lot of shops, restuarants, and bars. Many sights are nearby and it is only a 10 min walk away from the old city. Excellent breakfast, wide variety of drinks and food (including soy and gluten free products). Great jazz bar. The rooms are a bit small but very comfortable (especially the beds!). The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay a lot and would definitely recommend Kung Carl Hotel.

"Super location and nice breakfast BUT..."
Shirley F, 15 Août 2019

If you want to be well located choose this hotel. You can basically walk to anywhere in town!! Surrounded by finest luxury brands stores, neighborhood is definitely premium. Breakfast is value for money! Definitely important when you spend the rest of the day visiting. Bravo for that But my room finishings were average, water not hot enough. Half of staff was great, other half (receptionist Elin) was not proactive. Had to beg her to help me because she was on the phone for 10 minutes though I was expecting help with my room card. So, I would say that if location is your priority go for this hotel but if you are expecting better service (up to the level of the location) choose another hotel!

Quite nice room with balcony towards the lobby. Familiar feeling and good breakfast. Booked through dibhotel.com but great service at the hotel. Perfect location and good atmosphere. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

"Excellent value hotel"
Carole10, 12 Août 2019

Hotel Kung Carl is in an excellent location, a short walk from everything and right on Stureplan, with shops, restaurants and bars. The superior room was very large and despite it being on the first floor, we slept well every night. Breakfast was excellent with loads of choice, but the breakfast room struggled to cope with the number of guests at peak time. The hotel bar is a nice place and drinks prices are reasonable by Stockholm standards. There are better hotels, but not at this pace level.

"What a great little find"
lianebill, 07 Août 2019

The hotel is a super little find in a brilliant place for exploring Stockholm. The room was perfect for a city hotel although due to the unseasonal heat air conditioning would have been good but we were provided with a fan. Breakfastt was lovely too.

"Mixa calm hotel"

With a very good service level. Staff is so nice. They always great us. They even remember our names. Breakfast is one of the best, they fill it up very fast. Room is always very clean and ready for us.

Great location, walking distance to the historical area, and plenty of restaurants. It has a lovely terrace to enjoy a drink with a beautifull view, The breakfast is superb! All the rooms are different try to ask for one you would like.

"Lovely hotel with character"

Very nice, clean and cosy Rooms. Friendly staff and lovely breakfast. Nice sundeck and bararea. Very good location with walking distance to every area of the City. The only downfall is the loud noise from the nightclub across the street.

"Excellent Breakfast"
youngblood66, 01 Août 2019

A friendly, Clean, bright hotel in a great central location. Very good value for money. We were especially impressed with the breakfast selection Reception staff were especially helpful and the family bunk bed room plus a travel cot suited out family of 5 perfectly

"central hotel with idiosyncrasies and first rate breakfast"
Don G, 29 Juillet 2019

The hotel seems to be three separate towers with separate elevators; when one failed we had to go up another tower, go thru a connecting bedroom and walk the rest of the way. rooms are worn with little light, hard to work in. Very good diverse breakfast. The staff could use some social interaction training. There is a lot of street noise in the evening

"Three stars"
MrsPosivento, 24 Juillet 2019

We stayed three nights at hotel Kung Carl in June with my husband and 11 month year old baby. The hotel lobby was refurbished with style and also the restaurant where the breakfast was served was very cosy. We used the bigger elevator where the stroller fit with ease with even four adults. The room was modest and somewhat worn out but clean. The room was also very small, but of course the stroller and the baby crib took some space. Our room was quiet during the night and we had air conditioning. The breakfast was ok. There were all the basics and some nice extras like the quinoa oat pudding. Two mornings I asked the kitchen personnel if they could make some oatmeal for the baby. I presume that oatmeal is not as popular in Sweden as it is in Finland, where they serve it in every hotel, because the personnel didn't at first know what it is. Anyways, they were very helpful and we got some oatmeal. We found it somewhat odd that the restaurant excluding the breakfast was closed during the busiest tourist season. Also the bar didn't open before 4 pm. Because both were closed most of the time it made the hotel look somewhat drowsy. We have some thoughts about the service. I noticed as reading the Finnish language reviews that some others had commented the service too. The service in the reception was ok but somehow indifferent. Especially the blond male receptionist with classes made a somewhat arrogant impression. We observed that this was probably not the case with every quest so we have some thoughts why this could be. When we arrived to the hotel this particular receptionist recognised that we'd made the reservation thru the shipping company Viking Line. Here has to be mentioned that the tourists who usually travel by ship from Finland to Sweden might have a not-so-classy reputation, maybe deservedly. Anyways, we felt that we were not very important quests at the hotel. When we left there was no other customers in the lobby but neither of the receptionist greeted us goodbye. Our experience is that what separates a great hotel from a mediocre one are not the amenities but the service. Service should never be influenced by the customers wealth, status etc.

"Great location, lovely rooms but service could be improved"
mayianni, 23 Juillet 2019

We stayed here for 2 nights on a short trip to Stockholm. The location of the hotel is perfect with everything within 10-20 mins walk. It's about 15 mins walk away from the old town. The rooms are lovely, all rooms are individual and with great character. The lobby is also beautifully decorated. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with lots of different options, both healthy and indulgent. The only reason i would not give this 5* is because our room was not made up during our stay. We mentioned this to reception and they aknowledged it but were not very apologetic. This is a shame as despite this we enjoyed our stay in the hotel.

"Still a wonderful place to stay"
koneserka11, 17 Juillet 2019

We definitely love it there. – This time we were staying in a bigger room, overlooking the main street. – The room was beautifully furnished with classical white furniture, creating a homogenous whole both with the other rooms as well as with the rest of the hotel. The beautiful wallpaper made the room unique, and so did the meticulously chosen chandelier and mirror. In addition to the standard tv set, minibar, hairdryer and the tea/caffee making facilities, there was an iron and an ironing board in the room, as well as a pair of bath robes and slippers. No air condition paid off. – One could easily open the beautiful windows and stare into the street, observing the white nights, and with the little yet fierce fan one could freely enjoy the flowing air. The bathroom was very nice, too. – Succesfully marrying tradition and Scandinavian style. Sadly, there was a problem with the flow of water in the shower. However, once you`ve known all about it, you knew where to stand to make the bathroom the least wet possible, and – what to use the big window sweeper for. Breakfasts were wonderful, with lots of delicious fruit, cereal, yoghurts, cheese, bread, etc. and a Midsummer strawberry cake. – One could not be led into a new day in a better way! The members of staff were very helpful and they went to any lengths to help us with the missing luggage. – No problems with check – in or out procedures. There`s a nice bar and a restaurant in the hotel.

"Awesome!"
Trek53595936163, 29 Juin 2019

As usual, Hotel Kung Carl delivers! Awesome location in city center close to "everything". The food is great, the rooms are nice & spacious, and having a cocktail i the newly renovated bar is a joy. Have been coming here (both private & for work) for 10+ years and I highly recommend this hotel!

"Central location"
Th073, 27 Juin 2019

Location right at Stureplan. Really good bed and very good breakfast. Really nice staff and provided a smooth check in and check out, no more-no less. No A/C in the room but they provided a small fan. Hot rooms at the 6th floor with no option to open any windows towards the atrium. Slow (and few) elevators. Don't miss the (small) rooftop veranda if the weather is nice

"More pluses than minuses "
johnsZ1019BJ, 13 Juin 2019

"Perfect place to stay in the City Centre"
Tibor K, 10 Juin 2019

We spent five days in the Hotel which has amazing location, friendly staff and excellent services. We are satisfied with everything and in our next stay in Stockholm we will be chosing this hotel again.

"Stay away"
mosheb492, 09 Juin 2019

Centrally located. No a/c in the rooms and when opening a window the noise level is unbearable. Elevator was lit through the entire weekend although was promised to be fixed next day. Better options in Stockholm (including best weatern)

"there were things wrong but I was REALLY happy here"
JaneUK, 06 Juin 2019

This is not a perfect hotel and if I was being hotel inspector I might focus on the flaws, but I stayed for a week with work and I absolutely loved it here - why? Good vibes the breakfast was amazing, I liked the view out on the 6th floor, the bar inside, the staff, the decent room products both tea and shampoo stuff and an actual real commitment to sustainable products. The breakfast tea was the nicest I have had in a very long time and they let you make a take away cup as well. Check in and out times are generous. The breakfast was unashamedly Sweedish: loads of stuff I did not recognise so it was fun, but also about 6 types of bread, lovely tea, wonderful juice and energy shots, and a waffle maker and salad and cheese and nice jam that was not served in tiny plastic boxes. I was happy here. I live somewhere noisy so for me the noise (which there is) was really worth the trade for such a good hotel at a better price than more bland ones that were more expensive. so what is wrong, well as people said it is noisy. My electircs were a bit ifffy - the plug sockets were wobbly and the kettle cable damaged. The room is small - big enought for everything in it but not much more space. I still liked it though. the bathroom had a lovely retro fashion. The shampoo was really nice. the cute bedroom animals were ok. Room serice was effective but they did not wash your towels if you did the hang it up thing. The location was central, close to the IVA conference centre. A pleasant 15-20 mins walk from the main train station you arrive on the Arland express from the airport. Loads of shops in the area.

"Classic and beautiful! "
littlebiggar1979, 06 Juin 2019

Highly recommended! This beautiful and historical hotel is as convenient and friendly as it is old and majestic. Friendly staff! Centrally located! Quaint rooms! Environmentally friendly! The elevator/lift was temporarily down during my stay...so expect the possibility of stairs... the staff is more than happy to assist in any way for the inconvenience.

"Nice hotel and located centrally in the city"
Steen H, 04 Juin 2019

I have stayed a couple of time in this hotel. It is located in walking distance to the most important parts of Stockholm. It is an older hotel with but it has its own charme and I like that. The staff is always very helpful.

"Vera Noicy at night"
Lena D, 04 Juin 2019

We did not sleep much between 01-05:30. Noicy. The noice came from outside. Some bar. Choose another hotel. We will not stay there again. Other hotels in the same block arenor noicy. Choose Scandic instead.

"Excellent hotel"
Kris4u, 28 Mai 2019

Excellent hotel, great location. Very comfortabl bed, delicious breakfast, wide choice. Fast intenet, quick check in process. Frindly and helpful staff. Great value for money. Will definitely come back.

"FANTASTIC HOTEL - dedicated staff, charming conference area and lovely rooms!"
Liane A, 27 Mai 2019

We held our quarterly Senior Management Business Review at this hotel. This included a room block booking for 22 persons and conference room reservations for two days. Right from the beginning, I was supported by the hotel's staff dream team- Theres and Louisa. With their professional charm and grace, they made our stay a great pleasure – dealing with any and every detail/request we had. And believe me, we had plenty I can highly recommend this hotel for business and for private stay and am looking forward to visiting again. Thanks!

"Premium service and easy feeling"
Karin W, 09 Mai 2019

Great hotel in the middle of everything with premium service. Laid back and cosy atmosphere. Bar with outstanding drink meny and restaurant with great food. Have stayed there a no of times during the last year and I've always been very satisfied.

"Romantic"
pepics, 20 Avril 2019

We stayed two nights on our weekend break in Stockholm. Beautiful building from the old days, beautiful interior and the room decor is very appealing. They have combined the modern amenities with the old legacy leaving the plank floor and antique artifacts like the wall clock and ellipse mirror. Breakfast was excellent, everything was so tasty, bread was amazing and scrambled eggs were full of taste. Unlike normally in hotel breakfasts. The only thing I didn't like was the noise from the nightclub. I don't know if it was coming downstairs or somewhere else in the building. Take the earplugs with you or join the party.

"Excellent Stockholm Hotel"
tartagnum, 16 Avril 2019

Location is prime - close to tourist spots, dining, shopping, transportation. Great night life - has downstairs bar, across the street from a hip bar! Excellent staff all around. Daily breakfast was delicious. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Stockholm!

"Late arrival after midnight and pre-bookd room not available: overbooked."
Utz_Traveller, 13 Avril 2019

I arrived at approx. 1 o'clock at night and was really shocked to hear that they were "overbooked". Hm. The good news: the reception staff was very friendly, got me a taxi to another hotel (approx. 10 minutes away) & made sure I have a taxi next morning to bring me back to where I wanted to be. Also received a partial refund.

"Good, but not excellent"
V3637WHjana, 11 Avril 2019

I maybe wouldn't have chosen this hotel if I'd had to stay in my room for many hours a day. As it was I needed it to watch the late news, sleep, read my mail and have breakfast, and for this purpose it was really good. Clean room, very comfortable bed and good breakfast, WiFi: I had to login every time I turned on my comluter, annoying. Also, I don't appreciate to feel forced to pay the moment I arrive, this is not the custom of good hotels. Offer is good, but insist is different.

"Charming old style hotel"
Phil L, 11 Avril 2019

Had a quirky little room , high up with a balcony . Compact but enough space for everything , lots of natural light & decorated 'grand old' style. Bathroom was fine. Didnt have time for breakfast this time , but have had it before & it was fine , nice seating area . If you want central location & not a bland modern chain , this is for you . Great value too.

"A gem in the heart of Stockholm"
BettanLA, 17 Mars 2019

This was my third stay in 9 months - I am in love with the hotel and it's attentive and friendly staff. Hotel is classy and old-fashioned with nicely decorated rooms, and the location is superb for my needs - great restaurants, beautiful city scenery, shopping and closeness to the metro. The breakfast feels very fresh and if staying Thursday/weekend - there is jazz band in the bar. Cannot feel more at home away from home!

"If there had been a fire, I'd be toast"
pensivepeacock, 10 Mars 2019

Stayed overnight after a business trip. I chose the hotel for its location, which was definitely downtown in Stockholm. First hint that this won't be a seamless stay, like my other business travels, was that they didn't immediately see that it was a pre-paid stay, even if I showed them my e-mail confirmation indicating that this was the case -- so I had to spend my night finding all receipts and reservation forms from my company's travel agency as proof of payment. I was then sent up my room, which was in one of the corners of the 6th floor, a good 100 meters from the lift, and far enough from the stairwell -- so if there had been a fire... I would have been toast. The windows are round, without a fire exit -- so no chance there. Next stop -- the bathroom. Fixtures are old, and the gasket on the shower door was pretty much screaming to be changed. My bathroom floor was flooded, and as there was no heater in the bathroom -- had to use the towels to make sure I don't slip the next morning. The only nice touch are some plush toys on the bed -- kids would probably love them. I guess some of the rooms are nicer, but... I won't see them the next time I'm in Sweden, as I'd probably stay at the good ol' Radisson, which was pretty much fully booked when I had to hop over to Stockholm.

"Nice old classy hotel"
slllstal, 10 Mars 2019

Nice environment in central business Stockholm. Educations, meeting rooms and nice evening restaurants is near by. By using booking.com I was able to stay here for the same price as a less classy hotell, way off my meetings the next day. I highly recommend this hotell and do not miss the free ear-plugs to help stop traffic noice from your good night sleep in this hotell with its long history.

"All well in this hotel"
tessaliinai, 09 Mars 2019

I staid at this hotel for 3 nights. The room (514) was very nice and quiet, had even a tiny balcony, which I did not though use. During summer time I'd think the balcony is very nice! The room is ok by size, fresh and the bed comfortable. Really appreciated the two different types of pillows available. The hotel has a small gym, which was just perfect for my needs. Breakfast was nice, it included also some very healthy option such as chia pudding. Can definitely recommend this hotel.

"Worst night sleep"
Emanuele M, 28 Février 2019

One of the worst experiences as far as getting a good night sleep, with an important business meeting at 8am the next day. I was given room 406, facing a night club (across the road), which pumped loud music into my bedroom well after 2am. I advise anyone staying for business purposes to specifically ask for a quiet room facing the inside of the hotel. I complained about the noise, and all they could say was offer a better room the next time. Just not good enough, as my day was ruined. The hotel maybe cannot do anything about the traffic in Stureplan and the night club, but they SHOULD change the old windows and insulate the rooms from the noise, or at least tell business customers about the noise. You find out eventually, and the fact the hotel places earplugs on the bed is an admission anyway. I made my complaint heard, and all they could offer was a less noisy room the next time. As if I will be back. Avoid if you can.

"Awesome experience!!"
Gina F, 27 Février 2019

Our stay at the Hotel Kung Carl was amazing from the first day to the last! We spent a week here with a large group traveling for a hockey exchange program. The staff was polite, attentive and accomadated all of our needs. Lovisa and Theres are outstanding and responded quickly to my emails and requests. Konrad at the hotel lounge is a gem!! He took the time to get to know all of us and greeted us by name. Our room was beautifully decorated (loved the balcony), spacious and clean. The location of the hotel makes it even more desirable with restaurants, shops etc right outside the doors and Old Town is walking distance. The breakfast buffet was beautifully displayed and had a wide variety to chose from. If we are ever in Stockholm again this is definitely where we will stay again. Amazing, flawless, superb experience!! Thank you again to all who made our stay so pleasant!!

"Location, Location, Location"
Thomas C, 25 Février 2019

The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Didn't hesitate to offer great restaurant and bar suggestions. The room was small but comfortable and full of charm. The Hotel's location within walking distance to restaurants, bars, shops and Old Town was ideal. The Hotel's bar is a great place to start or end an evening out. Can't wait to return.

"Cute boutique hotel"
Suzanne M, 24 Février 2019

Cute boutique hotel in the city center. The location was very convenient for our group. A nice walk Old Town or easy T connection. The staff was quite pleasant and the breakfast outstanding. We look forward to coming back again.

"Cosy hotel with a a very good service"
Roger L, 12 Février 2019

I have visited this hotel regulary for more than ten years. My last visit, two nights were again super. The service at the reception, clean cosy rooms and the very nice athmosphere, with a nice bar in the aula makes this hotel a gem. Their restaurant Kung Carls Bakficka is a small, but high class restaurant.

"Comfortable Stay"
Wardies4, 25 Janvier 2019

We found the check in staff very welcoming amd helpful. Our room was roomy, there was an issue with waterflow from the shower with water flowing over half the floor, comfy bed and amazing decor. Found the staff in the breakfast room not that friendly and in the way. This hotel seems to be a business hotel, lot of corporate guests who personally make having a quiet relaxed breakfast impissible, but hey, those suckers were going to work, we were exploring the beautiful city, only downside, the lift is small and slow

"Disappointingly mediocre"
judiko, 29 Décembre 2018

There were several things amisss with this hotel, the water in the shower took a full 8 mins to get anywhere near warm, there are insufficient towels provided, no decafinated coffee to be had, but more importantly on one occasion our room was not cleaned until 15.15 when I mentioned this to reception no apology was forthcoming, simply and a less than interested ‘if you want your room cleaned earlier you have to tell us' the fact that the clean our room sign was on th door seemed irrelevant. Rude and unacceptable. The breakfast room has outdated pop music playing in the background, the offerings for the gluten free amongst us is a ‘pariahs corner' and minimal to say the least. The staff look unhappy and are not charming in any way. We had a junior suite booked by British Airways and this was stretching the imagination somewhat. All in all very disappointing and certainly not on a par with many other Stockholm hotels. There was also a sever crack in the bay window.

"Great Christmas stay"
Ozmarine, 26 Décembre 2018

Hotel is conveniently located central to major attractions in Stockholm. Rooms are very nice. The deluxe bathroom rooms are very romantic. Restaurant and bar are very cozy and the breakfast buffet is outstanding. Huge selection of meats, breads, cereals, yogurt, fruit, hot and cold drinks. Hotel is 15 min walk from central station and 400m walk to closest train and 20 min walk from museums.

"Kung Carl rules"
Wilhelm L, 20 Décembre 2018

Great location. Cosy environment. Good restaurant and bar. Friendly staff. Rooms are small but ok for the price. Elevator small & slow but works. Older building. Laundry service was too late - not same day but still fully charged.

"Welcome"
Voyager44585168518, 18 Décembre 2018

We often use this hotel and as always it is a bit like coming home. The attentive staff, the fine room and the good quality of the breakfast are reasons for us to come back even in the future. Our landing place in the capital city

"Not for me"
17excrucior, 18 Décembre 2018

Resonable room standard, great location, nicely decorated reception and bar area, but sadly personel problem/policy. Not welcoming and make you feel like part of an assembly line, not a guest (reception, bar and breakfast room). Exception was housekeeping, who had the only merry ”hello” for me. Had breakfast the last 30 min of the buffets serving, accompinied by the personel in the dining room making terrible noise by sorting clean cutlery and preparing for the next day. While leaving the restaurant the personnel were already standing around eating in the buffé area - didn't look good to me.

"always a pleasure!"
MikaelA131, 10 Décembre 2018

Great hotel, big but with a familiar touch. classic, clean rooms and great breakfasts. Lovely atmosphere and always a superb level of service! it´s all those little things this hotel provides that makes all the difference. I recommend this hotel to everyone!

"Awesome place."
Michael F, 09 Décembre 2018

Stay in this hotel since years, never dissatisfy. Perfect location, nice room and great breakfast. The staff is great and all this points together make a pleasant stay every time. The bar is very nice, and reasonable prices for Stockholm.

"Confortable hotel, great bar & convenient location"
Laurberto17, 25 Novembre 2018

This hotel is a great for his location, service, and their bar. Their rooms are a bit old traditional decor that is why I gave them a 4 rating. Breakfast was great and love the pancakes, we will be back

"Great place!"
Mariep1068, 04 Novembre 2018

Fantastic hotel in the centre of Stockholm. Close to everything. Comfortable romantic rooms. Great for couples. Nice bar and restaurant in a cosy environment. Big and tasty breakfast. I highly recommend King Carl.

"My Business Stay"
maciekpakulski, 26 Octobre 2018

Very positive about stay at that hotel, but I will improve lighting... a little bit too dark in the room and too soft bed. Breakfest the same everyday... I was missing fish for example. Overall good mark.

"Excellent choice for families with children!"
Ela_132214, 16 Octobre 2018

The hotel´s location was amazing! Directly in the city centre. We have travelled with our kids aged 10 and 6 and we walked everywhere - Vasa Museum, Nobel Museum, Pipi the Longstockings Family park, the History Museum with marvelous the Vikings exhibition, etc. The hotel was a walking distance from every single spot we visited. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast served in a buffet manner. The restaurant is children friendly and the food is just lovely! We enjoyed staying at the hotel and we highly recommend it to anybody who would like to experience great service and find a great location in Stockholm! Definitely coming back!

"Olden times luxury"
hotelinspectorgadget, 13 Octobre 2018

Staff was correct and helpful, but not memorable. The hotel is very vertical. Tight corridors, tight rooms, with a ceiling height we don't see much of these days. My room was smaller than average, and especially the bathroom (no tub) was small compared to modern facilities. One of the lights were out in the bathroom upon my arrival. I asked front desk for a change, but nothing happened until the next day despite assurances that it would be delt with "right away". A large crystal chandelier is usually not possible outside the lobby, but here it hangs in all its glory. The atmoshpere is that of an old well off relative if you know what I mean. Everything is high quality, just olden times high quality, but the TV is flat, and wide. Bed is soft and comfortable. The adjacent office building is very close so during office hours you feel the urge to draw the curtains. The central location also means there will be noise during the late and early hours. Earplugs are offered though. The breakfast is ample and sufficient with the high quality you would expect from a hotel this price range. The jazzbar and dining area are really cosy. As always I welcome a stack of TRAYS as the first station on any buffet to not have to take three turns before I can start digging in. I would choose this hotel again if I had to stay in the area and the budget wasn't tight, but part of me thinks that the price tag is slightly high.

"Loved it!"
Global803014, 08 Octobre 2018

Had a great stay over the weekend in this central and cosy place. Staff was friendly and helpful when we had questions, room amazing and truly enjoyed the breakfast. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

"Good quality for a good price"
evitaroge, 03 Octobre 2018

Nice hotel, clean and quiet. Good and polite personnel. Easy to find - good location. I liked the interior of lobby, nice atmosphere. The room was nice, I got the one in the corner of the house. Thank you for the chocolate and free tee/ coffee in the room :)

"Nice place to stay"
Klaus S, 24 Septembre 2018

I stayed one night during a business trip. Nice silent room to the yard. Disadvantage: very warm as I could not open the window. Very good breakfast. Jamie Oliver Restaurant just around the corner. Only 10 min. Walk to the waterfront.

"Good central hotel."
PauliT5, 15 Septembre 2018

Bit noise from the streets but not so that it would disturb my sleep compoementary earplugs were available in the room. Beautiful room and good braekfast. Climate control working well. Little scuffy feeling on children bed but goes with the athmosphere. I was travelling alone on business.

"Extra noisy weekend"
sjm520, 14 Septembre 2018

There is a new jazz club Fri-Sat, live music 19-23. The music is OK, mainly standards. However, the music goes on after that, mainly mindless thumping. The earplugs do not help. Otherwise no complaints but good sleep is precious.

"Central"
AmandaH2281, 11 Septembre 2018

A wonderfull hotel located in the middle of Stockholms heart. Close to everything, good shopping, good restaurants, good clubs. Cosy beds and cool furnishings, can only complain on that it was a bit noisy, not good isolated between the hallway and room. Lovely and helpful staff!

"Doing Their Best in an Old Building"
Ted-620, 25 Août 2018

Very professional service and a reasonable makeover give this old hotel a solid 4 stars. It's in a good location. The WiFi Internet service is very good. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for visitors who are OK with small-ish rooms and the inevitable compromises that come with a old building.

"Enjoyed every minute"
Elianne R, 20 Août 2018

The best location in the buzzling down town. Ear plugs provided but not needed. The smallish room had everything required and an extra bonus: a fridge which was great this superhot summer. Bathroom fresh and big enough. Very good breakfast and ambiance. Despite the slippers not provided (bath robes was) and a broken bed side lamp, I felt so good here that I rebooked it already. Nice staff and fellow guests too.

"Judith A"
JudithA500, 19 Août 2018

The King Karl hotel is the most centralized place to stay in Stockholm. It is in a location within walking distance of all the sites. If you have a car, parking is perfect as it is only a block away. Swedish breakfast is wonderful. The rooms are individually appointed so it makes it fun to see where you will stay. The staff is friendly and speak very good English. My husband is Swedish and we go to Stockholm regularly but never to stay the night. We had friends from the states with us so this was absolutely perfect.

"Great location but..."
ilenemac, 17 Août 2018

The hotel is in a great location and they serve an amazing breakfast however the hotel is in need of a renovation. Our room number 316 was not only the smallest room (apparently due to the price) but also lacked normal items included in today's hotels. The bathroom was so tiny it would be impossible to turn around. There is almost no area for hanging clothes. This room also overlooks a noisy Street and bar scene. There is no A/C and it is only a double bed against a wall. The staff was extremely helpful and answered any questions we had regarding the surrounding area. I would recommend the hotel but would suggest taking a look at your room before you settle in. Attached is a photo of the bathroom taken from inside the shower.

"Excellent Hotel"
Giles F, 07 Août 2018

Stopped here for 1 night on business and would highly recommend. Room was comfortable and well equipped, and the restaurant food and drink was lovely. Staff were very friendly and the place had a lovely atmosphere. Great location and would certainly stay here again.

"Lovely and personal hotel."
Mikareissuman, 06 Août 2018

Lovely and personal hotel. Big beds, very clean, champagne on the minibar. This is Middle of the city so you have to know there is always noise on the streets. Breakfast included on the price. It was good. Basic breakfast and few speciality, like something passion mousse and the waffles. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful AAA+.

"Lovely Building but Noisy"
Polargirl13, 01 Août 2018

I arrived at 2am. After 3 hours sleep was woken by banging and crashing. Central Stockholm is being dug up right now and I thought they'd started early. Rang Reception to be told it was the cleaner! She asked him to be quieter which worked for 5 mins when he started again. At 6am loud music from the breakfast room started so I gave up and asked to be moved rooms. Not possible as hotel full. Was moved later that day. Totally unacceptable and they blamed my ‘sensitive hearing'! It is a shame my stay was spoiled by this as the hotel is actually lovely - very nice period details and in a great part of town. Very centrally located. Good value too but they need to consider the comfort of guests more.

"2nd visit, still love!"
D9063GIkim, 30 Juillet 2018

Charming hotel with unique rooms. The breakfast was excellent, beds were comfy, and the staff was excellent and accommodating. Central to so much weather you like the club life or just a quaint cafe or restaurant, shopping, whatever! We were in room 529 which had a small balcony for us to sit out on, kids were in room 107 that was spacious with 3 large windows facing Stureplan. A bit noisy in that room but kids didn't care. Honestly, the rooms all have heavy drapes and solid windows which blocks out much of the noise anyway. Looking forward to our stay next year:)

"Underwhelmed"
hongkongtravelman, 27 Juillet 2018

Stayed three nights over a heatwave. Not very welcoming on arrival and I guess we have been spoilt by other hotels as we struggled through reception with our young children, bags and car seats with no help offered. Room ok, but a bit dated. Lucky to have a balcony to cool off and a small fan. 1 out of the 4 lights in the bathroom worked. Asked them to fix and we ended up with 2 out of 4. Breakfast ok, and over the 3 days think we managed to get a smile off one of the staff. Very noisy at night if you open a window or balcony door, lucky we were on a different time zone so were awake at 2am anyway. Good points - location. Need to work hard on customer service!! Wouldn't stay again.

"Awful feeling at the reception "
Trifan M, 25 Juillet 2018

I was asked to pay for the stay upfront and while I was waiting I overheard how other people were invited to choose if they can do a pre-authorization or pay at the end of their stay. I asked why I'm receiving this ‘special' treatment and the only explanation was that it is easier to do it this way because I'm paying for two rooms... really??

"Great location with lots of charm"
Ted W, 24 Juillet 2018

I just came back from a stay at the Kung Carl and it was a great experience. The staff were warm and friendly. The hotel was filled with old world charm and it is well situated, a decent walk to the Gamla Stan, Royal Palace, the Vasa Museum and others. The breakfast was wonderful with excellent coffee. It is also next to the only Starbucks I saw in central Stockholm (for those who find that perk). My only complaint is that the gym is very small and the room was quite hot due to the unusually warm weather. Overall, I still recommend it.

"Teacher"
Anneli W, 23 Juillet 2018

A small sweet Hotel with different kind of food with different style. It is a personal, warm Hotel just a footprints to Sture Gallery. It is in the heart of Stockholm. You can walk from the central station or take the metro.

"Great location , cosy and the old-fashioned Ì like, but some issues "
dcomdus, 19 Juillet 2018

Location is great, very central. Overall it is not an expensive hotel, so the combination of fair pricing and great location is a very good point. The room was so tiny that I could hardly walk in it, but that is fine, I was there for business, I could handle it, even the small bed. Design is a bit old fashioned but with a good taste , kind of antiques chic. Two main issues though, and they were serious, 1. very noisy (room on the street, I don't know if other rooms were quieter) impossible to sleep without hear-plug, the good news is that a pair was offered in the room (which I immediately saw as bad news!). The main issue was there is not much intimacy as you hear pretty much everything from the room next door 2. Elevator was not working during the stay and I was on the fourth floor, I can handle it but some of my colleagues could not.

"Different from the pictures on the website"
Marie W, 13 Juillet 2018

Well, first of all, we decided to upgrade the room straight away due to our honeymoon holidays (hotel didn't congratulate us in any way by the way). We kindly asked for a silent room as we were noticed that some rooms are facing night clubs and could be noisy by night. The room was facing night club and was extremely noisy, unfortunately we found it out too late - when we were about to sleep. Once we checked in I found out that one of the pillows has marks of someone's makeup and short dark hair, so I called reception to ask them to change the whole bed linings as I wanted to be sure they are all new. Overall, the hotel is way older than on the photos, some parts of the furniture are broken, no complimentary water in the rooms and the lift is very slow. We had upgraded to superior room but it sill was quite small and not really cosy.

"Nice hotel in a great location"
mannygochuico, 10 Juillet 2018

This nice hotel with unique rooms is just 15 minutes walk to the harbor and 25 minutes walk to the old town in GamlaStan. Great Location. there is a starbucks coffeee shop right next door, a good number of restaurants line up near the hotel and some high end shopping stores are just five minutes walking distance. We stayed at room 356. Room 356 is an air conditioned room and the hotel staff calls it a superior double room. The size of the room is average. The bathroom is narrow but nice. Two double beds were put side by side to form a king size bed. the bed and the beddings were soft and comfortable. The furnishings of room 356 were simple but nice. The pastel colors of the wall matched the colors of the furnitures. The bathroom was a little narrow but clean. Breakfast was really great with a huge selection of cheeses, hams, duck and pork paté. Bread was awesome. You also get a choice of scrambled or soft boiled eggs. you have nuts and dried fruit, fresh cut cantaloup and watermelon and a treat for the kids.. do it yourself pancakes! The people at the reception and the breakfast restaurant are very friendly. here's my rating: hotel location - 5 stars room 356 - 4 stars breakfast - 5 stars hotel cleanliness = 5 stars air conditioning - 3 stars People - 5 stars

"Ok if you want to be close to bars"
saritac965, 04 Juillet 2018

Luckily we were only here one night. The furnishings were very old and the elevator was broken. Not a lot of fun carrying luggage up a winding staircase. There is no AC so you have to sleep with windows open. That wouldn't be a problem if not for the fact that the street is lined with bars.

"Unique hotel - good stay"
khibbert2018, 01 Juillet 2018

This hotel is really lovely, staff are very welcoming. I love the quirkiness of this hotel, very unique. The only thing I think they need to improve on, is the air conditioning in the bedrooms and there could be some pastries/muffins at breakfast.

"Loud road noise prevents a restful night"
Joanne K, 01 Juillet 2018

This hotel is in a good position for sightseeing, the staff were cheerful and extremely helpful and it is good value. Our room was clean, bright and had a comfortable bed. However this is largely an unmodernised hotel with warrens of interconnecting corridors. The lift was not working and the corridors look old and tired. There was no air conditioning and the fan in our room was not working. We had to sleep with tge window open to the road outside. It is no exaggeration to say that this road seems to be used as the local drag racing curcuit with cars racing each other at the lights throughiut the night. Sleep was very disturbed. The hotel management is obviously aware of this as few toiletries are provided but two boxes of ear plugs are left out for guest use! Breakfast was in a very crowded, stuffy, over busy room with little room to reach the buffet table. The buffet had a limited selection of hot and cold food, nice breads but very little fruit.

"Good quality and great service"
Vasilis V, 23 Juin 2018

I was traveling to Stockholm for business and was looking for a hotel close to the train station. Although its relatively far from the train station compared to others which are closer, the short 10-15min walk does not make it feel that far as the hotel is perfectly located in a very central, touristic and business like area. The hotel staff was very polite, the breakfast fantastic and the rooms well designed with all the amenities. I truly appreciated the breakfast bag as I had to check out prior breakfast time. The hotel staff was there to accommodate every need in the most pleasant way. I would definitely stay there again. The only negative thing I found was the surface of the gym facility, which was extremely small (a mere 15-20 sqm) without the adequate gym equipment.

"Too many irritating mistakes and oversights"
Welease_Bwian, 21 Juin 2018

I really loved this hotel at first sight - it oozes charm and a kind of rich, warm luxuriousness. Our room on the top floor was spacious and well thought out. It seemed an excellent choice. Indeed it would be, except for all the minor but cumulative and inconvenient irritations and service failures. The standard of room service/cleaning is poor and inconsistent - as evidenced almost instantly when I asked my toddler what she was eating and she pointed gleefully to a scattering of dirty old crisps she had found on her pull down bed. Not very pleasant, but had it been the only thing it would have been ok. Unfortunately then the following things compounded my poor impression of the standard of service: - Shampoo bottle in shower was empty for our entire two night stay and despite my pointedly moving the hand soap bottle to the shower to use instead, it remained unrefilled although the soap was moved back to the sink.... - The tissue box had just 2 tissues in on check in. - The electric blinds in the skylights did not work. Not amusing when dawn is at 3:30 in mid-June. The night porter couldn't help and the next morning we were informed that the main room lights have to be switched on for the blind switch to work. Oh, of course. Silly us...Why didn't we think of that?!? Maybe a sign or notice to this effect would help!!! Instead we were woken by light pouring in mere hours after finally getting to sleep (see photo). However - it is also worth noting that when we followed these instructions the next day, it still didn't work and we had to complain once more. - Breakfast is pretty nice and varied, but faceless with no staff or service if you need anything. - Crumbs on my bedside table from the first night were still there at check out. - The coffee/tea tray had only coffee available on night 1, only tea on night 2. No stirrers or spoons. - We booked a wake up call for 6:30 on our departure day for an early train.... never happened. Luckily we were awake on time anyway. On the bright side, all the staff we interacted with were friendly and appeared helpful in the moment, even if things were then subsequently forgotten, and the blinds were mended for us for the second day whilst we were out. The beds were very comfy and bedding crisp and fresh. Wifi perfect and room temperature control (air con) good. This could be an excellent hotel, but I fear someone has taken their eye off the ball for too long and attention to detail is sadly sorely lacking. Shame!

"highly recommended"
Alena K, 21 Juin 2018

Everything was super! Staff, room, bed, bathroom, internet, braekfast and place. It is an old hotel (due to the history) and kept in the traditional way with expected modern equipment. Very near to everything what is in the centre of Stockholm and because of traffic also good to travel anywhere outside of the city. Staff is highly professional.

"Good Hotel, great location"
kendalian17, 04 Juin 2018

Hotel is in a great location, less than a 5min walk from Östermalmstorg metro station. We had read reviews about rooms on floor 6, so were slightly concerned when we were allocated 621. Yes the room is compact, but the bathroom a good size, more than enough space to get around the room. The room was warm on arrival, as the weather was very good, but once we got the fan going it cooled down. Our window looked down over the bar inside the hotel, so we were not bothered by He external noises mentioned by others. The hotel is right next door to a Starbucks and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes within a short walking distance. Breakfast was included and consisted of a small continental selection, with choices for all. Plenty to start you off well for the day. We only tried the beer in the bar as we just couldn't bring ourselves to pay circa £20 for a glass of wine. We stayed here for the Stockholm marathon and it was very handy to access the start/finish either via foot or the metro as everything was the next stop along. Service was on a par with everything we received in Stockholm. Not wowed by it but friendly enough and efficient.

"Excellent location and comfortable beds"
286martin, 29 Mai 2018

Perfect located Hotel in the middle of the citycenter at Stureplan. Nice rooms with old classic style, comfortable beds and large bathroom. I liked the small bottles of schampo, conditioner and lotion and the fact that you could make a cup of coffee in the room. The staff was friendly and service minded. We stayed there on a Saturday and since the party does not end at Stureplan before the morning it was a bit noisy outside. For improvement they could offer a better breakfast with some more fresh fruits and vegetables and stronger brewed coffee.

"Good to be back"
koneserka11, 26 Mai 2018

We decided to stay at Kung Karl`s again and for the third time in a row – we did not regret it. The stylish room, though small, was certainly big enough to spend the nights there. There was a comfortable big bed, with immaculate linen, two handy nighttables, a desk, a small wardrobe, where we found nice clean bath robes and a little cooler. Sadly, the room was a bit cold – especially that the weather did not play along, and the radiator handles were blocked, so that the guests could not adjust the heating. The staff, however, offered a heating unit, which was nice and efficient. True, the hotel might be a bit loud during weekends, but one has to bear in mind it is an old building situated in the city center, surrounded with a lot of clubs and restaurants and it might happen that the noise would interfere. – Therefore there are the earplugs in the bathroom, with an apology for any inconvenience from the manager. By the way, the bathroom was small but clean and modern. – The only inconvenience I noticed was a short tap – too short for the beautiful stone basin, making it impossible to wash one`s hands without splashing the water … Breakfast was as delicious as the two times earlier , with a wide selection of cheese, pastry, cereal and of course delicious tea and coffee.

"Middle score for middle service."
przemqss, 21 Mai 2018

I'm writing this review which should be positive on overall level. Room I nice and clean but windows are coming into interior. Noise can be hear from outside and behind the door so it's good night rest can be hard. I found strawberries in mini cooling fridge but if they're from hotel then I won't touch them if they not then they should be cleaned. Nice that it's near old town which is very nice.

"Be careful during Holidays"
waiake1, 04 Mai 2018

My last stay in Stockholm had been at this hotel and although it was marred by noise, I was willing to try again. I did call ahead and request a quiet room. As we were there over the weekend before Labor Day there was an issue with the restaurant. They are closed for Sunday dinner, the day we arrived. They are closed every Monday. They were closed Tuesday due to a bank holiday. Certainly, there are enough restaurants in Stockholm, but this was a minor inconvenience and if we had not wished to venture out could have been a major one. Although there is a room service menu, it consists of only 3 items and none are vegetarian or vegan. I recommend room with a shower and not a bath. The bath may be more luxurious, but they are in middle of the room and not separate. Breakfast is provided, but it varies. We were there for 5 days and saw a range of offerings. Sunday was the best with a large array of food and waffles. No there day were waffles offered. The coffee was inconsistent. Monday was good, Tuesday very bitter, Wednesday fairly bitter and Thursday and Friday good. I can only surmise this was due to a change in staff. Housekeeping was very good, always cleaning at the requested time and to a high standard. With the caveat of the aforementioned glitches I would recommend this hotel.

"With a special spirit, location"
Megafred, 24 Avril 2018

What I especially like about this hotel is that it has a kind of spirit to it. The athmosphere, environment is characteristic and sets it apart from many other hotels. Art deco, 1900th century vibe right there by Stureplan and Kungsgatan, a hectic central part of the city is an appealing contrast. The room was surprisingly quiet with the hotels location in mind, maybe it was because I got a room not facing the street. The room was maybe a bit small, but cosy. The location is very good, you get great access to the centre of Stockholm and have a lot of shops and restaurants etc just around the corner

"Retro hotel with in the city center"
ARAVlS, 24 Avril 2018

The hotel is very well located in the city center in an old but building with a renovated facade. The lobby is quite narrow and it is difficult to find your way to the room and hotel facilities (gym, restaurant) due to the fact that the hotel comprises of several buildings that used to be separated and were then merged into a hotel. My room was spacious, acommodating a kingsize bed and a set of 2 armchairs and a coffeetable. The bathroom was very old fashioned though. The hotel, including upholstery in my room, seemed to be dusty and not cleaned for a long time. There was a specific smell of sewage system in the bathroom, disgusting. Breakfast was delicious and there was a vegan and food intolerant offer as well.

"Disappointment"
ehngo, 18 Avril 2018

Unfortunately I was disappointed for my stay. I had high expectations but my room was not as clean as I had expected. There was dirt and dust on the floor, a dark hair on the bed and shattered class on bathroom floor. I probably could have had a new room if I had requested one but since I only had few hours of time to stay in the room I did not have the time to do that. Otherwise the stay was ok, breakfast was good and location is good as well. Unfortunately the overall picture was negative due to dirtiness.

"Worn down tiny room, huge heating problems"
metalurgs, 12 Avril 2018

The standard room I stayed in was really tiny - you open then door and you're in the bed. That would be OK. The wear factor... well, let's consider that as an “extra” too (although I think that the room could benefit from some refurbishment), but the cold... That was very disappointing. The temperature outside was -2/+2 at the time I stayed, the heating was on its maximum, but still it was very cold. I found an antique heater in the closet and used it to heat my room up before the night (as it was too loud to let it run during the night). It helped a bit. The breakfast facilities were OK. They even had their lactose and gluten free selections. Which was nice until I wanted to pour some lactose free drink and one of staff ladies started to lecture me that that is a special food only for those who need lactose free (I replied that I'm one of those people, but she continued her story several times and didn't listen to me). Overall, can't recommend this place.

"Perfect "
dbkelly6183, 04 Avril 2018

The Kung Carl Hôtel was perfect! Breakfast was excellent because it was a mix of European and American. We had room 459 which was very large and nicely decorated. My son and daughter had room 456 which was a standard room so smaller but still very nice. Beds were very comfortable. Was hot in our room but we could control the temperature and adjusted it. All of the staff were extremely helpful. On our first night, we ate in the bar and the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful. It was burger and bourbon night. One of the best burgers I ever had! A couple of days later we ran into the bartender again and he remembered us and asked how we liked Stockholm. We couldn't ask for friendlier staff!!! The hotel was also very charming and lovely. We will return!!!!!

"Beautiful room, breakfast and service"
mishmashmole, 31 Mars 2018

I love staying here. Such friendly staff and beautiful rooms. The breakfast is a real treat and something to look forward to each stay. I have stayed here many times and each room is very unique. Some have baths and you should ask if you want a room with one. I highly recommend this hotel for both service and location. Note that this is a very busy area and you might want to ask for a quiet room if you are a light sleeper.

"Perfect!"
elf782018, 21 Mars 2018

No doubt: one of the best hotels in central Stockholm. Very cosy and quiet. Nice room and yummy breakfast. I do recommend this hotel whether for business or holiday. Enjoy your stay in Stockholm at the Kung Carl!

"Beautiful and perfect location!"
Åse F, 08 Mars 2018

A charming hotel for the Stockholm visit! Walking distance! I always stay tat Hotel Kung Carl when I'm in Stockholm. Great restaurant, great drinks in the bar and the perfect place to be. The rooms are charming and cosy and the beds comfortable,

"I love this hotel because of atmosphere and other details"
Olga P, 25 Février 2018

I've been staying in the hotel 3 times already. It is always nice and pleasant room and view (even the room is not big). Nice professional service and food. Great location. Very smart pricing. So, the combination of everything is bringing nice experience. Definitely will come back as soon as I have an oportunity

"Best hotel!"
dalayoga, 20 Février 2018

Very happy with the service and environment at Hotel Kung Carl. Loved the place! The familyroom was great and big, the bed was so comfortable and the breakfast was lovely! The only negative was the noice from outside when sleeping there in the weekend. But I was the only one who noticed - the rest of the family slept very well.

"Nice Hotel With Charming Bar"
Thomas S, 18 Février 2018

Great location when in Stockholm, it was practically walking distance to all my appointments. The room was quite small but charming and clean. The bar is what really makes this hotel stand out, great use of what was once a backyard and well assorted! The breakfast was very Swedish and quite ok if you like eating herring in the morning :) For those who don't, there was also bread. Cheese, yoghurts and vitamin shots. All in all a hotel I can recommend.

"Almost perfect"
mattias911, 09 Février 2018

This is an excellent hotel. I might have been lucky but my room was of good size and with a view over Stureplan. Very nicely furnished. The location is excellent, smack in the middle of Stockholm's finance district and poshest areas if you are Prada shopper. If you are not, you can still enjoy a short walk down to the water at Nybroviken and the plethora of good restaurants around. The breakfast was ok but not very well-assorted for a Scandinavian hotel. The staff was correct but a bit stiff. Overall a very pleasant experience.

"Short stay in a very pleasant Hotel"
Alexmaxtom, 25 Janvier 2018

Comfortable rooms tested several times (avoid single room N° 120 which is small and has a badly placed bed with airconditioning just by one's head). Hotel bar is unusual and comfortable and the breakfast is satisfying. Staff are very helpful, efficient and pleasant.

"Good Hotel"
dandaluz1, 22 Janvier 2018

I'm in Stockholm at least 3 times a year and I always stay here. While it's not great, the pros outweighs the cons. Cons: 1. Some rooms are tiny. Like big closets. It seems the tools on floor 6 are the smallest. 2. The heat doesn't always work and during winter months can get really cold. 3. The blankets aren't big enough. Even if you get a full size bed in one of the bigger rooms, they'll give you two blankets that don't really do the job. If you're a tiny person, then you're good, but if you're tall... 4. I've stayed on every floor and every type of room and some rooms are in great need of refurbishing. Not enough outlets in the right places, no ironing board and iron in most rooms (older rooms). 5. Bathrooms are nice, but some of the showers allow water to escape basically flooding the entire bathroom floor. Simple fix, but not always done. 6. The elevator on the right side of the building as you're entering is terribly slow. I get that it's an antique blah blah blah, but time to get rid of that thing. The elevators on the left side is twice as fast. These are the cons, to name a few. As I mentioned, I'm in Stockholm at least 3 times a year and I always stay here. Here's why: Pros: 1. Location. It's in the heart of the city. All the restaurants and bars and nightclubs are all within walking distance. Not to mention Gamlastan and some of the other cool sites to see. 2. Again, location. It's right next to the the Östermalmstorg train stop (red line) which is convenient for me as I use the subway daily when I'm there. 3. Comfy beds. Despite the small blankets. 4. Amazing breakfast. 5. Fast internet. I've never felt like I couldn't watch a movie or surf the web because of a lack of bandwidth. 6. Friendly staff. Maybe because I'm always there and know me already but they're always willing to help. Just generally nice people, but then again, the vast majority of swedes are nice people! Not really a pro or a con, but beware of the rooms that face the indoor courtyard. Windows don't open and you a have a view of nothing. Not only that, but noise from the bar rises up to the top and it feels like people are drinking right outside your window. I sleep deep, so I'm good. Overall, a nice place to stay while visiting Stockholm. ??

"Romantic staycation with the not-knowing husband"
TheBakers01, 22 Janvier 2018

Desided to stay at a central hotel, but not to big, Kung Carl is just perfect in that sence - all roooms different from each other decoration wise and colouring - romantic and near everything near Östermalm. Breakfast was excellent, so fresh and just everything you could wish for. Comfy beds and excellent staff, what more to wish for.

"Thumbs up - Boutique Hotel with love and focus to the detail"
Klaus L, 17 Janvier 2018

Stayed overnight Oslo - Stockholm in Jan 2018. The customer experience with Kung Carl starts at the stylish reception which is super friendly, efficient and warm hearted. The room was spacey. Wooden floor. Very nice bathroom with first class equipment. Bed soft and cosy. Really Enjoyed the stay and would very much recommend Kung Carl. Price: ca 1800 sek per night. Thanks for a helpful vote.

"Nice atmosphere and centrally located"
markusa734, 06 Janvier 2018

The Hotel Kung Carl is very centrally located and combines several historical buildings under one roof. I had a nicely decorated and functional room on the second floor. The restaurant was closed on Sunday evening, but despite our late arrival we could get a few beers at the bar. Reception staff was friendly and willing to help. The breakfast buffet was comprehensive and covered everything you would expect in Sweden. Of course, the room rate was on the high side, but quite typical for a hotel in the center of Stockholm. Overall, a positive experience!

"Excellent location, wonderful staff and comfortable rooms!"
WorkLifePlay11, 04 Janvier 2018

Hotel Kung Carl truly delivered a wonderful experience. in terms of location, you cannot get any better, the very best of shopping and dining is a stones throw away, literally right across the street at the Sturegallerian. The rooms were spacious and clean with modern bathrooms, but they were very charming and kept in the traditional sense. The staff were very helpful and kind and they truly went out of their way to ensure that our two small children were happy; they had prepared a large basket of toys and placed two stuffed animals on their bunk beds. I will definitely stay here again and I will recommend to family and friends.

"Good choice on Stureplan"
Henrik R, 04 Janvier 2018

A good businesshotel located on Stureplan with many nice restaurants and bars just nearby. I been there many times, room quality differences but is generally ok. Classic styling in rooms and common areas.

"Leif Johansson"
leifing, 19 Décembre 2017

This is a nice hotel with great personnel situated in "my area" of Stockholm. Just avoid Sunday evenings when everything is closed unless you are prepared to go out to a nearby Bar or Restaurant of which there are plenty.

"Good choice in Stockholm"
Skuuga13, 16 Décembre 2017

I like locations nearby Östermalm heartbeat as Kung Carl. Hotel building is so beautiful and it have restored in good way. Room was quite small in upper floors. Breakfast was a good Scandinavian breakfast. Overall this was one of my best hotel stays in Stockholm. Only the hotels price in Stockholm is always so high, that it's really hard to get good value for money.

"Room whit class and charm"
respekt4, 12 Décembre 2017

The beds in the room we had, was first class and the rest of the furniture was stylish. The staff in reception and the rest of the personal was very helpfull. It is a hotel we will com back to.The location is in the heart of Stockholm and many restaurant and bars is close the hotell if yuo want to try another place to eat, but you realy dont need to do that because everything yuo needs you find it in Hotel Kung Carl

"Charming rooms"
Anna A, 07 Décembre 2017

You never know what kind of room you get, they are all different. Very charming. Have stayed here several times, every now and then a room has been really tiny, but most often really nice. There are also toy dogs to keep you company. Breakfast is good, many choises. This time I stayed in early December and the room was a bit cold, the tiny bathroom was freezing. That was only minus for the stay this time.

"Lovely hotel"
SusanG_8, 06 Décembre 2017

Love this hotel, such a beautiful building, reminds me of Diagon alley in Harry Potter just by the bar, it's so quirky! Rooms are all different and the beds are super comfortable. The food at breakfast and dinner in the restaurant are also excellent.

"Great Location"
NewYorkarchitect, 12 Novembre 2017

If you want to be in the center of Stockholm, this is a very good choice. It is in several buildings around what used to be an outdoor space in the center of the block, now covered to be an interior court. The breakfast was excellent.

"Great location but lack of attention"
Kimlean0, 11 Novembre 2017

Well, location wise you cant get it much more central than this. The only issue could be noise from around (especially when you notice the ear plugs on the pillow when you arrive). However, the room was much more quiet than i expected and I had no problem sleeping. Also very good was the breakfast, lots of choices and great Nespresso coffee. However, in order to deserve being named premier collection or all the stars there are some changes needed. For example, clean also items that a tall guest will see or if a guest asks how to turn up the heat, he probably doesn't appreciate the cleaning crew leaving the window open in the room. Overall i liked the location, but there were too many small details that didn't feel 100% to justify the price nor the ambition.

"Loveliest hotel in Stockholm"
LAMG_10, 11 Novembre 2017

I've stayed in several hotels in Stockholm and this is my favourite. It has a great location particularly if you like being near designer shops, there are many restaurants and bars close by and the hotel rooms are lovely. The staff are also wonderful. Great place to stay

"Very good hotel"
Barbeuz, 11 Novembre 2017

Kung Carl is a very good hotel (I stayed there for business several times): - very central location - beautiful building, in 19th century fashion, with a nice patio - large rooms, though a bit old - good breakfast (though choice is not as wide as one could expect given the price range) - Price/quality ratio acceptable

"Stay here when you are in Stockholm!"
Kathleen L, 02 Novembre 2017

Beautiful, quiet room in a lovely hotel with extraordinarily welcoming staff and the best breakfast anywhere. This hotel is historic, but very modern in its amenities. It is centrally located, convenient to everything, but quiet. This is a very comfortable hotel with great service and great food.

"Good location, not the best facilities"
Adir T, 31 Octobre 2017

I was there for work. The rooms & Hotel are really nicely decorated, but it doesn't really matter when the heating doesn't heat the room. almost everything is for sale in the hotel, from teddy bears to books laying around in the room, annoying. They DO NOT have irons, rather, they have ironing room. see for yourself in the pictures. Besides that, pretty nice. food is more than average and the place is fairly quite. I would not go back to the hotel because of the irons & the fact i was cold while working in the room.

"Highly recommended, best stay i have ever had in Stockholm"
Louise T, 23 Octobre 2017

The location, the room and the service were all top class. All of this to a reasonable price. I will go back as early as next month. We were three friends who stayed in a superior room with an extra bed and had a lot of spare space. We also had the most amazing view over Stureplan. I highly recommend staying here.

"Business trip, highly recommeded!"
Annika B, 20 Octobre 2017

Booked two of my colleagues from Switzerland at Hotel Kung Carl for a business trip to Stockholm. Spontaneous feedback was that rooms very were quiet and that the food in the restaurant over delivered vs. expectations. Moreover the breakfast atmosphere gave a good start of the day. Overall highly recommended!

"Perfekt staying in Stockholm"
Kjell S, 16 Octobre 2017

Nice hotel, best location, near everything. Do not forget to visit Ostermalmshallen and Sturehof. Take a lovely walk at Biblioteksgatan. Enjoy Strandvagen and the see. If you like shopping go to NK at Hamngatan.

"Nice hotel, friendly staff"
sveinfrode, 24 Septembre 2017

A hotel with lots of history in the walls. Great location, nice staff and overall good service. Very charming place for breakfast, with great selection of all that's needed for a good start of the day. Small and ok fitness room on the 6th floor.

"Central location with positives and negatives"
Nick H, 16 Septembre 2017

I stayed at Hotel Kung Carl for one night during a business trip to Stockholm. Let's start with the positives...the central location was great and the service was really good. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful during my stay. Unfortunately other aspects of the hotel let it down. Whilst the central location was good, it meant that on the Friday night that I stayed, there was a lot of noise from the bars across the street until 2am. Unfortunately the windows don't block out all of the noise so I frequently woke up. Also, the my room was a little worn, dated, and in need of refurbishment. Unfortunately there are other hotels I've stayed at before in Stockholm which I'd recommend over this one.

"Still beautiful and perfectly located"
akbhatia, 12 Septembre 2017

I have stayed here twice before (and reviewed once; all the rooms were completely different), and will agree that if you get one of the small singles, you might feel like you have to go outside to change your mind (forget about opening your suitcase!). Last time I got a room where the bathroom was so small that if you were a tall person you wouldn't be able to towel dry without bruising yourself on the walls. But the place is so charming! This time I got upgraded to a superior room on the second floor (which I think is newly renovated): high ceilings, big windows, beautifully decorated - and a big, beautiful bathroom. I almost didn't want to leave. Renovation of the lobby/bar/restaurant area is done and breakfast is mercifully in one place again so you don't have to complete a treasure hunt to eat. The breakfast staff, however, is still not the friendliest and seem mostly to be waiting for you to leave so they can clean up. Check-in/check-out and storing luggage was super smooth and quick (and both luggage rooms are locked, I saw a review that said otherwise...). Obviously, there are plusses and minuses, but I will most likely come again - for the location and the quirky design of the rooms

"Excellent Hotel in the heart of Stockholm "
RanaC18, 04 Septembre 2017

I am glad I booked Kung Carl hotel for our first stay in Stockholm. It's a "hotel de charme", loved the old style feel which goes perfectly well with the building's architecture. The room is tastefully decorated, with three big windows and a beautiful view. The bathroom was small though, but it didn't bother us. The bed is very comfortable and the room is super clean. But the strongest point of Kung Carl is its location. It's so central that you can walk everywhere: to Gamla Stan, to the royal palace and opera, to the port plus it's in the high end district of Stockholm with all the luxury boutiques around, nice restaurants and pubs and even a shopping mall. The location was just perfect and it made our stay very enjoyable. There's is a bus stop a few steps from the hotel, but u won't need it as you can walk everywhere. The breakfast is good and complete but it lacks viennoiseries. The service should be improved. The staff at the reception were not friendly at all, and they don't make any effort to suit your needs. Plus they barely answer when you ask for advice. Same with breakfast staff. I was surprised as Swedish people are usually very friendly. This is not the level of service you expect from a four stars hotel. But the location and the charm of the hotel compensated that and we really enjoyed our stay.

"Confortable hotel "de charme", nice location"
Annick D, 01 Septembre 2017

Great location (in the center of Stockholm); good value. Very nice breakfast. Have family rooms -- nice decoration. Mix of business people and tourists even if we thought there were to many "business" men/women). Small fitness room.

"Worst hotel I have ever visited "
Anna P, 31 Août 2017

I'm staying right now at the hotel and if it was not for business for 1 night, I would check out right away, that bad is this hotel. The receptionist is the worst one I have met in my hotelier career and traveling around the world nearly all the year: when we arrived we had 1 room ready for my colleague and second room not, without taking a note of my name or anything, receptionist Daniela said the check in time is 3pm and if anything ready before, then they can give. I sat right next to reception for an hour, there was only other family sitting in the lobby and no one else. Check in policies and timings are understandable as I'm myself work for the hotel chain, but if you see someone falling asleep in the lobby, probably you can as hotel at least try to do your best. After an hour when I approached reception, she made a face like Who are you and asked what's my name? After I gave my name again she said yes there is a room, please pay here. So when I asked if I would not come myself to check, you would not offer me a room, she said there are too many people in the lobby, which is ridiculous as was only me and other family, not to mention that lobby is not more than my room which is hardly 12sqm and not to notice someone sitting next to your desk will be at least ignorance. After I showed that there no one in the lobby and it is pathetic excuse, the next she said that she didn't know my name (I have given my passport at the arrival when she said there is no room). Then I obviously said both excuses are not valid, she never tried to apologize and all her behavior was expressing full disinterest. Having someone like this at the reception would kill any desire to stay at this hotel. Working for hotels for many years I feel deeply sad for owners and management of this property. I would not recommend it to anyone for a stay despite of being in great location. The price is not cheap to pay for such rude service when there were plenty of other options in the city in similar price range. I would close my eyes to such an awful check in (I have started my career in hotels from reception and I perfectly know what's it like to stand and smile, therefore recruiting right people is very important for hotels business), if I would get a room expected from the pictures. The room is nothing like on the pictures on the website, the room I'm staying is super small, probably the pictures needs to be more realistic, there is no such picture of the room I'm staying, the room is hardly 10sqm and bathroom is 1x1.5. I have mentioned that we are on business here and when I enter the room there are 2 soft toys on the bed! Not to mention, till I reached the room, I had to pass (and corridors are also tiny) 2 dirty house keeping trolleys full of dirty sheets and garbage standing completely unattended. I'm only writing it for a benefit of hotel to improve their service as I think their ratings online is highly undeserved.

"Comfortable Hotel in a Perfect Spot"
EclecticDJ, 29 Août 2017

Comfortable rooms. Great breakfast. Appeared to be a mix of business people and families. The front desk staff were exceptional all throughout the day. Very helpful. From the moment we arrived with our bags lost in Amsterdam. They took care of us.

"Worst hotel "
Maya N, 22 Août 2017

Never have I seen such a noisy hotel and such unpleasent staff! The room was just on the top of the street full of music and motorcycles runnung all night long and my children were awaken by it all the time. The response we got was very unpleasent and somewhat rude and so was the behavior of the staff in general. Spent there 4 nights unfortunally, because we paid in advance...

"Beautiful hotel and a wonderful experience."
carolv410, 16 Août 2017

We spent 3 wonderful nights in a Jr suite with a darling balcony overlooking the street below. Our bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet considering the busy street below. We loved the fact that historical aspects of the hotel like the tile fireplaces were preserved, but the room also had all the us to date modern technology we have come to expect. The staff were all wonderful and my husband is still talking about the amazing breakfast choices. It we are fortunate enough to visit Stockholm again, we will definitely stay here again.

"Really lovely hotel right in the centre of Stockholm"
Katrina C, 12 Août 2017

The hotel was a good price and is right in the centre - positioned well for transport, clubs, restaurants, museums, shops and the habour - we could walk everywhere! The breakfast was very good with a range of food and the service was efficient and friendly - especially good for a busy hotel in a capital city. The hotel helped us with taxis and excursions so nothing was too much trouble which we appreciated. The rooms were fab - spacious and well decorated. Totally a lovely experience.

"Pleasant retreat - right in the middle of Stockholm"
Carl Einar S, 10 Août 2017

My wife and I took the morning train from Oslo (in itself a pleasant experience and so much better than flying) and walked over to Hotel Kung Carl where we were greeted by friendly who informed us that we had been upgraded to a "junior suite" on the third floor. The room was excellent and had a small balcony from which we could see the royal castle. Top marks for ambience, service and location, and reasonably priced.

"Not great"
3menda, 10 Août 2017

The location is good. Rooms are old. On a 5 day stay I had a cracked toilet seat and the AC unit was leaking water that created a huge puddle and reached the carpet. The toilet seat was fixed one day after I reported it. The AC still has towels in front of it. Service from the front desk staff is spotty. Some are nice but most are rude. The bed is uncomfortable. It is an old firm bed that squeaks with a matress pad on top. The size of the room was fine. Breakfast was ok and it was included but it was the same every single day. No variety. They have some creepy dolls off the elevator on the 5th floor as decoration. In my opinion, this hotel is not worth the almost $250 usd per night that I am paying. Maybe it would be ok if the customer service was better but it is definitely not 4 stars. My colleagues stayed at the Diplomat and seemed to have a better experience. Some of us were booked at Kung Carl because the Diplomat was full. Next time I come to Stockholm I will not stay here. Don't settle for an old, tired and overpriced room and bad attitudes. There are much better options out there.

"Great hotel"
L82London, 04 Août 2017

Wonderful hotel in the best location of the town. The hotel has been going through some renovation recently and our room, 208, was one of the newly refurbished ones. The room has a lovely high ceiling with wonderful bay windows looking out towards Stureplan. The decor is historical but fresh and clean with really comfortable beds and seating area. The rest of the hotel had a lovely buzzing atmosphere in the evening and the staff are all really great and friendly. The breakfast is fantastic with lots of options and you have so many different things to choose from. There are also gluten free and vegan options. Generally this hotel is perfect both for leisure and business travel. The location doesn't get better and the value for money is great.

"Great location, nice staff and good vegan friendly breakfast!"
Eco_Tom_Oslo, 02 Août 2017

We have been visiting this hotel for many years now, and never get disappointed. The rooms are nice (superior), spacious and silent We do not find it noicy despite the location close to the party scene in Stockholm!

"Excellent historical hotel"
Flipflopsun, 09 Juillet 2017

Hotels interior and decor in the rooms and public areas are really nice, honouring the long history of the hotel. Breakfast has a great range and good quality. Hotels own restaurant can also be recommended, really tasty food and good atmosphere.

"Parking is impossible - even to unload cars "
Amelia H, 07 Juillet 2017

Stayed overnight and while the beds were very comfortable, the room was tiny and decor dated. In order to unload our bags and find a park we had to drive around blocks and blocks for over an hour - asking at reception was no help as they said "if you don't speak Swedish we can't help - it's to hard to explain". Ended up paying a fortune for parking when locals later told us that parking after 7pm was free on a nearby street. Frustrating and expensive considering the location, and assistance.

"Great hotel great location"
Karin A, 27 Juin 2017

I stayed with my family (2 kids, 13 and 6 years old) in a family room for one night. The room was newly renovated in an old fashioned and nice style. Bunk bed for the kids. Comfortable and nice beds. The bathroom maybe on the small side, but that really did't matter. Nice breakfast with lots of things to choose from. Staff very friendly and helped out with tips on what to see and do. Great location close to everything. All in all great hotel!

"LOUD bed"
Maria F, 17 Juin 2017

Small but nice looking room, with earplugs as a courtesy on the bed. We thought it was for the traffic until we sat on the bed. It is the most loud sqeeky sounding bed Ive ever heard (and the I include beds you hear in comedy movies!) in my life! It needs a gallon of oil and a screwdriver to be well again.

"Quirky Hotel"
CarolWestSussex, 11 Juin 2017

This is an unusual hotel, well located in the centre of the city within easy reach of the major attractions. There is a nice relaxed feel to the hotel with the staff very friendly and proficient in speaking English. A good breakfast is included in the price. The rooms are very small; we were encouraged to upgrade our room to a larger one but this room was still relatively small but cosy!

"Kung Carl"
eric h, 10 Juin 2017

A wonderful experience with every need attended to by the staff. The location is also excellent in downtown Stockholm. Meals in the restaurant are also a treat. When traveling to Stockholm, King Carl should be our hotel list.

"A Curate's Egg of a Hotel"
lawd, 29 Mai 2017

We didn't get off to a good start. First our room key didn't function and that's not good when you are tired after travelling. Then the safe didn't work, nor the light by the door. The receptionist put new batteries in the safe, which still didn't work, and said she would get the light seen to. A day later nothing had changed so we complained to a different receptionist who got things fixed by the time we returned later in the day. We had to ask for the cups in our room to be washed and for the teabags to be replenished. If we didn't ask if didn't happen - not good in a hotel of this supposed quality. We also felt that the general standard of the room did not match up to the supposed 'superior room' standard. However, the general atmosphere and decoration were very good - distinctive and unusual. The breakfast was excellent. I agree with a previous reviewer that it was the same every day, but there was a huge variety on offer and the standard was high. The location is excellent for sight-seeing, being on a classy street and within easy reach of the metro. We had a very enjoyable holiday and loved Stockholm.

"Want stay here again"
cph-hlb, 24 Mai 2017

The lounge and reception area is very nice and the service at the reception is forthcoming and very high quality. The breakfast is fine normal type of Swedish breakfast with a fine selection. I had booked a room for one night and I am happy that I did not have to stay longer. The room generally need to get a bite of refurbishment - I love old classy hotels - but here the rooms looked tired. The room had the smallest toilet/bathroom with a very little shower. The rest of the room was equally small with no proper table and almost no floor space. The worst part of the stay was the noice from what I think was the ventilation. I am normally not bothered by noice and can sleep most places - but this was exceptional and really annoying - and prevented me from sleeping. Overall I would stay somewhere else the next time - like the haymarket

"Classy old hotel"
Heskanen, 23 Mai 2017

This was my second visit at Kung Karl; the first dated back in 1987! A lot of things had changed and the hotel was very cosy and stylishly renovated. The breakfast was one of the best with excellent selection of bread and cheese. I will definitely come again!

"Not the best, not the worst..."
KC82London, 13 Mai 2017

I stayed here over the first May bank holiday weekend with my husband and parents & think it's easier to break it down into pros and cons... Pros: Location - located on Stureplan, it's so easy to see the beautiful city of Stockholm from here and you're in spitting distance of plenty of shops, restaurants, etc. Staff - the reception staff were very friendly & helpful, particularly the young guy who worked on the Sunday and who arranged a room change for me and my husband and kindly manned the bar for us when we wanted to have a drink when the bar was closed... Decor - interesting decor. I particularly liked the clocks dotted around the place. Cons: The rooms - my husband and I were initially given a room on the 4th floor which didn't contain a safe, wardrobe, mirror...basic things a room usually contains even in a Travelodge(!) & so we were allocated a new room on the 6th floor. Apparently this was an "executive" room but it was dark, small & instead of there being a window there was a round hole like being on a boat...it did have an iron which the previous room didn't, so that was a bonus and appreciated. Towels were threadbare and absolutely tiny - I'm not large and it barely covered me, so my husband had no chance. The breakfast - very limited choice & the eggs were abysmal. Virtually no fruit, no opportunity for any coffee other than filter or espresso. No staff. Overcrowded. I only bothered twice out of four mornings. Cleaning - I never saw any cleaners and only the bare minimum was cleaned in the room. My husband forgot to take the "do not disturb" sign off on one morning and in every other hotel I have ever stayed in this sign gets ignored at some point as cleaners come back around to check the rooms they didn't clean earlier but there was no chance of that happening here. Glasses were not cleaned or replaced and things were not removed. Bar - a gorgeous area but it was closed two out of four evenings. Rooftop space - this is partly a pro as it was lovely but it isn't publicised anywhere and we only found it because we moved to the 6th floor. It's small but it's also a lovely sun-trap. The only issue is that you're. It allowed to drink your own drinks - the bar is on the ground floor (and was closed for two nights) and the lift takes forever anyway...however a bar man came up when we were sitting outside and told us off. We didn't even know the bar was open on the Tuesday as it hadn't been on Sunday or Monday! That wasn't very nice. Room service - there is none. Staff - there aren't any, anywhere! Apart from whoever the poor person is manning reception, there are no staff to be found anywhere. My family and I had a fabulous time in Stockholm but I would find it highly unlikely I would stay here again. It's not the worst hotel and there are positives but you really feel like you're getting very little for your money & I would rather pay more and receive a better service.

"Still not sure after a week of reflection!"
KRC53, 10 Mai 2017

I'm still unsure how I feel about this hotel, even though I've left it a week before reviewing it! The reception staff were nice, friendly and quite helpful. However they seem to have to fulfill other roles as well. On two of the four nights we stayed they also had to man the bar if anyone wanted a drink and because of the non-existence of breakfast room staff (?) also had to deal with replenishment requests for breakfast, which is crazy when it's a busy time for people checking out etc. In the end we didn't bother. The breakfast was ok but only 2 choices of prepared fruit. If you don't like melon or pineapple then too bad! Our room, which is featured in the book in the reception area, had some elegant features, but I noticed that the arm of one of the chairs actually had ingrained dirt from some sort of spillage which looked as if it had been there for some time! The room was a good size, had a nice view and the bed was comfortable however the shower room was tiny! Fortunately we are quite small people and even we found it uncomfortable as there was so little space. Having said that, the shower itself was pretty good even if we felt we had to dry ourselves out in the bedroom. The room cleaning was hit and miss, the first day a lady cleaned and made the beds to a good standard but it went a bit downhill after that. Nothing major but I don't think much time was spent in there. The small roof terrace on floor 6 was lovely in the sun but you aren't allowed to take any of your own drinks there, entailing a trip down to the bar (if there was anyone serving) on the ground floor. Not quite as simple as it sounds as the lift only goes to floor 5, then along corridors and finally up again to floor 6! Little wonder we didn't find it until the last night. The location is very good and we were happy with the price compared to other nearby hotels but I'm still a little bemused as to whether or not I would stay here again. I'm not sure if the decor is meant to be 'shabby chic' or if it's just a bit on the worn out side. Hmm, maybe I will, maybe I won't. Really don't know!

"Business trip to Stockholm"
MarinaSea, 30 Avril 2017

The cost hotel in the very hart of Stockholm. The room is rather small but everything you need is there. The breakfast choice is really surprising with selection of cheeses and tea leaves which I indeed needed.

"Tiny rooms, and poor service - the website photos are quite misleading"
Ian_Pratt, 26 Avril 2017

I stayed at the Kung Carl for three nights in April 2017. First impressions were very poor. After a delayed flight, I arrived at the hotel at around midnight, to find the front desk completely unstaffed. I waited a ridiculous ten minutes of bell ringing and 'helloooo-ing', before I went into the kitchen area at the back to ask for help. Staff were sitting around there chatting, and were completely unapologetic about the delay. At checkout, I stood waiting while the receptionist finished a long phone conversation. Service is not a priority here! I checked into my very small 6th floor room. There were no windows, but rather skylights in the ceiling. One had a blind over it but the other was open to the sky, meaning that the sun hit my face from very early in the morning...not a place for a sleep in. The room itself was broom closet level tiny, and looked nothing like any of the photos shown online. It was small for one person; if you are travelling as a couple you would need to seriously consider if you would both fit. Furnishings were basic, and in need to a refresh - particularly the threadbare towels. Otherwise, no more serious complaints. The breakfast was nice, though served an identical menu each day. Internet was very fast and free. Locationwise, this is a great choice to explore the city, and unlike some other reviewers here, I had no problem at all with noise. On the whole, though, there are endless options at around this price point in Stockholm, and I can't help but feel it would be better searching a little more widely.

"A pleasant hotel with one fault"
waiake1, 25 Mars 2017

I stayed here for 4 days, I had originally booked 3, but it was so good I stayed another. That was a mistake. The fourth night was Friday, apparently a party night. At 12:30 AM I was awakened by blaring horns. These horns continued until 05:00 at which point my neighbors came back and started banging their doors. The noise is due to 3 night clubs nearby which are open until 5. Other clubs close at 3. The taxis honk their horns to attract fares. This only occurs in the vicinity of the hotel where these clubs are. No other hotels have such issues. Obviously, the night's sleep was terrible. According to staff inward facing rooms are quieter, but personally I will never stay here again.

"Perfect location, lots of breakfast options, great value"
G H, 23 Mars 2017

You couldn't ask for a better location than being right on Stureplan, and we never heard the street noise in our room. You're just across the street from great seafood at Sturehof, the Sturebadet spa, or some late night fun at Spy Bar. Our room was comically small by US standards, but in line with other European capitals, and we stayed three nights for what we would've paid for one night in Paris! The hotel offers a tasty breakfast with plenty of different options, although we had to go hunting elsewhere for kardemummabullar (the cafe at the photography museum surprisingly had the best we tried in all of Stockholm). If you want to be in Ostermalm, this is your place.

"Exelent bed and nice breakfast"
Auvo N, 21 Mars 2017

One of the best beds I have ever slept i this nice old time hotel. Good night sleep is the best thing you can get after walking around the city. Small dogs were waiting on the bed every day. The hotel is near the old city. You can just walk there. And this side of town seems to be clean and nice. One minus to the hotel. The toilet near the bar was not clean in the evening. Not good. The breakfast is rather crowded during the weekend but it was a good scandinavian style.

"Great location with wonderful atmosphere"
Ulrica H, 03 Mars 2017

We received a room at the top of the hotel, with wonderful round windows with view over the whole heart of Stureplan. The hotel is located in the best way, you can walk to the beautiful water and take a stroll along the sceneries. You can walk to Kungsträdgården, and just around the corner you have all the best shops and boutiques you could ask for. The restaurant at the hotel is wonderful and has the best food. I love the rustic feeling in the restaurant that contrasts a lot toward the royal feeling in the lobby. The bar is outstanding because it feels like you sit in an outdoor alley with all the strong colors and architecture. The beds in the rooms are amazing, we slept very very well :). I highly recommend this hotel. Read more if you want at hus30.se

"Astonishingly nice"
Dr James H, 26 Février 2017

Delighful suite in the grand-style with sitting-room, lovely bedroom and fabulous bathroom complete with private sauna. All the rooms are decorated individually giving the impression of real homeliness. Fantastic view over Stureplan. The room could not possibly have been better. Amazingly good breakfasts too: full Scandi! A real treat.

"Lovely hotel in the heart of Stockholm "
Annika S, 21 Novembre 2016

Excellent location! The hotel is located in the heart of Stockholm and close to great restaurants & bars, nightlife, shopping and sightseeing. So it's the perfect place to stay when visiting Stockholm both for pleasure or business. All rooms are unique and differ from each other, they are clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Breakfast and brunch is lovely and I can recommend to start the evening with a good cocktail at the bar. Nice and helpful staff!

"Shower from hell"
knurreknurre, 19 Novembre 2016

I kindly advised them about the shower. They promised to replace it. But they didn't before I went down to the reception with the shower head. They offered me 30% discount on my next stay. What a disgrace. Also all the guest who suffered from this potential bacteria bomb...

"Charming hotel with good location"
Lillan11, 08 Novembre 2016

I'll begin with saying that the rooms are quite small. They're nicely decorated and the style of the hotel is quite charming. The best thing about it must be the location. Smack in the center of Stockholm. Walking distance from shopping streaks, boats and ferries, restaurants and cafes. Definitely a plus.

"Terrific location and nice hotel"
Naomi G, 31 Octobre 2016

This is a nice hotel with nice decor. The rooms could be bigger. It has a charming feel to it. The location is absolutely perfect. Couldn't be better. Right in the heart of beautiful Stockholm. The location compensates for any flaws.

"Charming but small rooms"
Daniel P, 19 Octobre 2016

Nice hotel, good service, cute decor but small rooms. The bar is quite good too. The breakfast is pretty standard. Overall a charming hotel. My shower head was spraying everywhere but this is a first and I've stayed here plenty of times. Excellent location too!

"Good location and rooms with a nice touch"
italy_norway, 16 Octobre 2016

This was our second time at this hotel. Our room was rather large and nice, with large windows and good sitting space. The room was very clean. Rooms seem to be in different styles, but all rather pleasant (we had a superior). We were allowed to check-in well before the time, without much fuss. Excellent service. Breakfast was nice, with a good choice also for vegetarians. Price was OK considering prices in Stockholm. We will consider this hotel again when traveling to Stockholm.

"Feeling like home"
Westnorwegian, 13 Octobre 2016

The location is perfect, a welcome in the reception just like it should be, a nice room that is clean and with everything that you need, including a very nice bathroom. The breakfast is not fancy, however more than you need and bar perfect for a relaxing moment. I really liked this hotel, a friendly and relaxing place and at the same time close to shopping, business and restaurants. Good choice both for business and a romantic weekend.

"Comfy and unique!"
UlfKjell, 09 Octobre 2016

Hotel Kung Carl has gone through a series of changes of its 150 years in business. Today, family owned since 1977, modern, comfortable, effective and unique. Individually designed rooms surrounds the unifying courtyard. A couple of places for wining and dining. Perfect location at Stureplan. Affordable.

"Overall pleasant stay"
Troels A, 01 Octobre 2016

Overall a pleasant stay with pleasant staff. The rooms are clean and nice and potential noise from the street is handled with earplugs on the pillows. I have stayed on this hotel plenty of times and have not heard any noise from the street yet (includong stays on lower floors towards the street). Only complaint is that they do have some very small rooms among the rooms so remember to ask for as large a room as possible when checking in.

"Great Staff and Location"
alan_ganesh, 25 Septembre 2016

A quite beautiful hotel located in the heart of town. We stayed for 3 nights and did not need to take a taxi once. What really made our stay was the service we received from Marta and the team at Kung Carl who went above and beyond to meet our needs. The rooms were decorative and comfortable but the only downside was the bathroom was a ridiculously small size for a 4* hotel. However would happily recommend it as a place to stay

"Tired and dirty room"
Jarkko S, 16 Septembre 2016

Lobby looks nice but my room (205) was rather old and tired. Shower was not nice, dirty and slimy experience. Break was super basic and e.g. orange juice was not real orange juice but just artificial liquid created by machine that mixes water to concentrate. Will not go here again and can not recommend to others.

"Friendly Staff, Loud Hotel"
PaulaNow, 15 Septembre 2016

Kung Carl was a moderate experience, though the staff was very friendly and gracious. The hotel seemed understaffed as there was always a line to check in and out. I was moved from the front to the hotel in hopes of escaping what I anticipated to be a loud evening with the Spy Bar located across the street, and I really needed a good nights rest. Sadly the room on the other side of the hotel was very noisy, and so I was unable to have the long nights sleep I was longing for. The rooms are very small and the shower was ridiculous, I could barely turn around in it. Not with the price. Maybe good for someone who's out late and so tired they can sleep through anything.

"What a room!"
Tahmikki, 15 Septembre 2016

The location was quite near from my working place so I choose this hotel. And I'm happy that I did that! What a room. Huge and personally decorated. Very beautiful. The only minus thing was the breakfast. The bacon was cold. I mean - c'moon. Four start hotel and the warm dish was cold! Next time in my business trip I'll book this hotel again. The rooms are so unique :D And hope that the employees in the morning sift are not sleeping ...

"Our stay at Historic Kung Carl Hotell"
Muhammad S, 13 Septembre 2016

The Hotell is located in the center of the city's business and historical sector The Stureplan. I spite of old Hotell the Hotell has been kept in execellant condition.our room was with the balcony and the view was spectacular from the room. Bath room was reasonably sized however the shower space was small bounded by glass separators. The room was quite large with nice furniture how ever the central lights were not working even though we complained the problem was not attended. The was lit with the other lights available in the room. The breakfast was again typical Swedish style lacking hard boil eggs. The staff were very hospitable and friendly.

"Great location & good atmosphere, but a little noisy"
tpfin, 24 Août 2016

I stayd in Kung Carl with my daughter. My criteria to choose this hotel was 1) central location and 2) old-world ambience (often, I want to to feel some of the history of the place). These criteria were met. Our room was beautifully decorated, with light colors and some antique add-ons. The bathroom, in the corner of the house, was really cute and spacious. There were two small windows toward the street to give some natural light. As the room faced the street, it was somewhat noisy in the night (but, kindly ear-plugs were provided in the room - we did not need those, though). The breakfast provided a good selection, with some not-so-typical options also (like small gazpachos and blueberry shots). It was somewhat crowded during the last hour of the service, though. We also dined in the restaurant. Had some scallops and lamb. And I have to say that the kitchen is up to date. The food was delicious and well prepared! We also enjoyed the beautiful bar, which is located in a kind of an inner court. We had some excellent drinks, prepared according to our specific wishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I have to say, though, that the web pages of the hotel did not give quite accurate impression of the hotel. You could think, that there there are 3 different restaurants, but these are really 3 different areas of a single (quite small) restaurant - and the Library area is not always open.

"Probably the best in town!"
Mikael O, 24 Août 2016

My absolute favorite hotel in Stockholm. City center, excellent restaurant with great staff. Highly recommended both for business and pleasure. I've stayed here on a regular basis over the last 6 years, and never had any complaints! GREAT PLACE, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

"Family holiday in Stockholm"
Scott E, 19 Août 2016

We arrived at the hotel on the very early hours and was greeted by a very helpful and knowledgeable night porter. the check in was painless, however when we got to our room the detail we filled out on the third party website hadn't filtered down to the hotel and as such we only had a double bed for three people. The room issue was very quickly resolved in the morning and we were given a room with the right amount of beds and a private roof terrace. the food for breakfast was as expected and very plentiful and the staff were extremely helpful, so much so that they kept me amused for hours, as there were twins serving at breakfast and I thought I was going mad every time I saw them on different floors minutes apart. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes a hotel close to the centre but would caution them as it can be noisy as we found out. the rooms were supplied with ear plugs (this was a mystery until the second night, when the Stockholm car boys raced down the ajacent road, but the hotel can't be blamed for this.

"Brilliant location "
Ruaidhre B, 09 Août 2016

What a wonderful boutique hotel with a sense of tradition. The rooms are small, well appointed but 'cosy' Hotel Kung Carl is brilliantly located and allows you to walk to the shopping areas, and old town. Staff are really friendly. Great experience

"Great location - bad bed"
Peter7415, 02 Août 2016

Was there just for a couple of nights. Hotel is in a city center with subway near. Rooms looks little creepy and despite this was superior room there weren't and fridge or iron either. Breakfast was average or below avarage, but what suprised me is very very bad bed. It was so banded that hole was in a middle so Iv got back pain. Luckaly I left after couple of nights.

"Nice atmosphere , good service"
Phil L, 21 Juillet 2016

Single room , small but functional. Hotel has lots of character & great location . Not super modern but that gives some old world charm . Nice bar & friendly service. Will stay again ! Perfect location at Stureplan. Reasonably priced for the quiet July weeks too.

"Lovely boutique hotel, fab breakfast!"
Alison0706, 19 Juillet 2016

This hotel is in a fantastic location. A Best Western boutique hotel, don't be put of by the fact it's part of a chain, you would never know. We arrived at 6.30am from the ferry and by 9.15am they had our room ready which was appreciated. We were on the 6th floor in the attic rooms, all rooms are individually decorated, tea and coffee in the room plus a fridge. As we were early we had breakfast which as the other reviewers have said was excellent, fresh pineapple and melon, homemade compote and amazing bread plus avocado which was yummy with the cottage cheese. The press for their orange juice was also lovely. Rooms were bright and clean. Now the negative, THE NOISE! all was fine and quiet until 1am and then until 4-5am it was party central on the street outside. Up until this time we had the windows open but had to close them (no air con) and use the ear plugs they provide. Having experienced the noise I would still stay here again, great service and comfort but would ask for a quiet room.

"Great location!"
Alirala, 15 Juillet 2016

The best part about Kung Carl is that its in a great location: a beautiful street close to the high-end shopping areas, and a walking distance from the old town and other sights. Very safe area. Beautiful rooms, great service and the free wifi actually works great!

"Central location, old fashion stile."
Shmulik2, 14 Juillet 2016

Excellent location, old fashion stile. It feels like you went back in time like 100 years . The elevators are small, so if you are coming in big group it can be a long waiting clean, comfortable atmosphere, very good service and good free wireless connection. Very good breakfast.

"Would stay again, great location"
fijiqueen, 14 Juillet 2016

The location in Stureplan is excellent (eat across the street at Sturehof... best seafood ever) and in a nice part of the city. The hotel is very pretty, unique and well-kept. Each room is different and interesting and adds great character. The staff is very friendly and helpful... best staff on my Scandinavian trip. We were there 3 nights...excellent breakfast and very cute area to eat. If you ask they will pack you a nice little breakfast pack if your flight leaves to early to enjoy the buffet. I thought that was so nice of them and it was very thoughtfully chosen. Very impressed with the service here. The gym is nice too but boy is it hot! Sauna and gym in one! Worth it to go up and see the roof view too. It's a nice place I would stay again. Only complaint: there is not air-conditioning though so you must open the window for air.... and good luck sleeping once you do that! There is a club outside (not a really great one in case you'd rather join them... I'm into nightlife so I stopped by...it has good music though so at least you can enjoy from your room instead of sleep haha). But they do give you earplugs so I can't complain too much about that. Will stay again if I return to Stockholm :)

"Very nice - but noisy surroundings"
Finnish world traveler, 09 Juillet 2016

Stayed here on a saturday night with family. Very nice location, beautiful hotel and a spacious and nice room. Good service and very nice breakfast in the morning. However quite noisy (even on the fifth floor) with a lot of clubs around the Stureplan, so would recommend trying to get a room on the inner courtyard or backstreet side.

"A nice place to come back to"
koneserka11, 27 Juin 2016

It was our second time in the hotel and we were exactly as pleased as the first time. The room, though a bit too small was nicely decorated and quite comfortable. – Just as the year before, it was very clean and showed the very special character of the whole place linking modernity with historical approach, represented in this room by a beautiful chandelier, hanging above the beds. Breakfast was as tasty as the first time, providing guests with a variety of foods ranging from guacamole and cottage cheese to marmalade and cereal as well as fresh fruit and self pressed orange juice (lots of fun). A novelty to the hotel is a long bar, situated close to the lobby. It is very nicely furnished, providing sufficient space both for enjoying a drink and having a chat. – A nice selection of wines on offer.

"Continuous improvements"
Gunnar N, 26 Juin 2016

Over the past year, this super-central hotel has been upgraded in a number of respects. The beautiful belle-epoque facade has been completely renovated, the entrance and reception has been redesigned in a beautiful and homely way, the restaurant called 'Three rooms and kitchen' has also received a facelift with improved space also for the sumptous breakfast buffet. A new stately and wellstocked bar with beautiful fabrics and furniture has been installed next to the reception area. With its pesonal and friendly service and individually designed and furnished rooms Kung Carl still offers an excellent price-quality relation in the heart of Stockholm.

"Charming old building combined with lackluster service"
zitavskeho, 23 Juin 2016

The building from beginning of 20th century has character and there are some very nice rooms. Good location next to Stureplan and a 5-10 minute walk from where the boats start and the old town. Service is average to poor: we only received one room card as they did not have enough left, at breakfast there were too many people and the service could not follow, the room had a bad smell. When your room is on the street side, it is noisy and the windows are not sound proof (part of the charm).

"Decent hotel, Good location"
Wareemon, 20 Juin 2016

Stayed at Kung Carl from June 18th -20th. The room was clean and nice. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good especially they have allergy free dairy product and a non gluten food. Con is avoid all rooms facing a building that has a Burger and Lobster restaurant as it was very noisy with drunk people. But the hotel provide you earplugs so if you dont mind putting earplugs during your sleep, this hotel is perfect for your stay in Stockholm.

"Very good, could be excellent if a couple of small things are looked at"
ChrBrd, 12 Juin 2016

This is my go-to hotel in Stockholm... relatively close to the station and city center, but also quiet enough. Very good rooms (I had #625 if I recall... fantastic room), clean, and friendly service. Feel that small things get in the way of 5 stars. For example, I cannot use my Best Western card to claim points "because my room was booked via Booking.com"... could be valid reasons for this, but it just feel petty and mean. Same applies to the empty mini-bar, which required me to go downstairs to get a Coke and a snack. A pain in the butt if you have a lot of work to do.

"Exquisite hotel, wonderful city"
Catalina P, 11 Juin 2016

I have stayed five wonderful days at the beginning of June in Stockholm at the Kung Karl Hotel. First three days I had spend with a dear friend that I did not see for one year and we have shared a double room together. We had a great time visiting Stockholm and the surroundings. At first we had a very good room, a bit small for two but very comfy. Then she left and I had moved to a single by myself in a gorgeous room with nice decorations. The entire time I have spent in the hotel was wonderful, rooms are very comfortable, very nicely individually decorated, the entire hotel has a chic charm of the old days, but modern where it was supposed to be modern, bathrooms are new and wifi has a very good speed. I had enjoyed the rich breakfast, very good coffee and very good service. Speaking about service, I would very much to thank especially Louisa from the reception who made everything possible to make my stay in the hotel remarkable. Loved the city, loved the hotel, would definitely come back. Kind regards to everybody in Kung Karl, see you soon, Catalina Predescu

"Excellent old fashioned hotel in the heart of the city"
LaureAndCo, 08 Juin 2016

I stayed there for two night for a business trip as the standard chain hotels were fully booked! Will definitely come back as this was a great experience. My room was really well decorated in an old fashioned way, it just felt like I was on holiday coming out of the office. That compensated for small details such as a slow WIFI connection and somewhat lack of light in the room. Breakfast was very good, I will come back for my next trip!

"Perfect located"
Sonny_Asplund, 29 Mai 2016

We had 2 nights on this hotel when visiting Stockholm during a concert. The hotel is perfect located in the middle of Stureplan with many restaurants and shops nearby. Also a short walking distance to the shops and gallerias around Drottninggatan and Sergels torg. The subway for transporting to arenas is located within 2 minutes of walk. The hotel itself have an old look from the beginning of last century. It was cosy and we had a De Luxe room as the ordinary rooms can be small. The WiFi is included and works very well, the breakfast is also included and was OK. We was heading to Stockholm by train therefore this hotel was suited us perfectly. But with car it is more difficult as they have limited places to unload and the parking around the city is very expensive. The staff was very helpful and serviceminded.

"Delicious breakfast!"
Kati L, 28 Mai 2016

Room was confortable and felt unique! Small things prevented me from giving full points (like broken lamp, too soft and bit small bed) but overall friendly staff, good location and cozy atmosphere. And the breakfast was best I have eaten in a hotel so far with fresh squeezed orange juice.

"Great location, nice hotel but standard room is too small"
Victor983, 18 Mai 2016

Stayed here for a business trip for three nights. Basically, this hotel is very good except that I find the standard room way too small. I had barely enough space to walk around let alone work in my room at nights. Hotel staff was nice enough to offer me another room, though. Other than that, great location for sightseeing! Very close to old town. Staff very nice, breakfast as well. Only advice: book a big room.

"Excellent location"
Maria P, 15 Mai 2016

The location of the hotel is perfect, in the centre of Stockholm, close to many shops and restaurants. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean and spacious. There is a very nice bar inside the hotel and the breakfast offers many options. Overall a very good experience, highly recommended to families with young kids.

"great location"
delagioventu, 09 Mai 2016

Very nice hotel, ideally situated in a commercial part of the city, close to where the boats and city tours leave, as well as gamla Stan (15 min on foot). Good breakfast, nice lobby, good service. We had a family room. Staplebed, but at our request they added an extra bed.

"A (perfectly located) room with a view"
akbhatia, 01 Mai 2016

The location of Hotel Kung Carl is perfect: right in Östermalm with easy access to all the restaurants and shopping. Since it is right next to Stureplan, this of course also means that street-facing rooms will get Friday/Saturday night noise from Stockholmers going out (I was on the 6th floor and it wasn't that bad). I had a beautiful room on the top floor, simple but thoughtfully decorated. My absolute favorite thing was the skylights that let in tons of light and the big round window with a beautiful view of the neighbourhood rooftops, among others that quirky one that looks like the deck of a ship (don't worry: all the windows had blackout curtains). Breakfast was great with a lot of choices and good quality stuff, and you can sit in the Kung Carls Bakficka café which is very cosy. The breakfast area was a bit spread out, so you had to walk around to find everything - and there was some construction going on which made traffic back and forth a little more cramped. The only slightly negative things I can think of is that check-in was a bit slow and the bed wasn't so comfortable (for such a fancy hotel, I assumed the linens would be nicer but they seemed overstarched/scratchy and the pillow was lumpy). But overall definitely a good stay and a nice hotel!

"Tiny and old - really disappointing "
LeCacoin, 25 Avril 2016

First I must say that the hotel is perfectly located in the center. Furthermore the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the rooms are very old and really really tiny (don't even bother booking a single room you would barely fit). I will not comment on the interior design as perhaps a fan of antic decor might like it (but I found it very odd). You cannot regulate the temperature and I woke up many times being too warm and with a dry throat even though I turned off the heaters. The heaters were either very loud or some pipes were noisy all night long. And no conditioner nor moisturizer cream nor anything at all in the bathroom for a four stars hotel? Also maintenance could fix falling mirrors not hanged properly or loose cables not fixe to the wall anymore... There is one tiny elevator (4persons max without luggage) so better take the stairs. Last but not least the breakfast experience was a nightmare. Construction workers working and drilling and hammering everywhere, going in and out opening the outside door allowing cold air in.... Finding the food is a treasure hunt as bits and pieces of food are hidden around the construction site. You even need to pay extra for a decent coffee! I would definitely not recommend and not come back. There are many other more spacious and modern options close-by.

"Great location shame about the staff"
babber_roo, 16 Avril 2016

My boyfriend and i stayed here for 3 nights we initially booked it as the website stated they had a 24 hour check in. We arrived after a long day of traveling and when we arrived were told that our room wouldn't be ready until 3 so our holiday didn't go to the best start. We were told we could put our luggage in the their holding room but were surprised that it wasn't locked to keep ours and other peoples luggage safe. Once our room was ready we were happy with the amenities that came with it (safe, robes, shower washes and other little things). The bed was very comfortable but the room was very small with the tiniest wardrobe I've ever seen. The bathroom was nice and the room was spotlessly clean. The breakfast choice for a 4* hotel was to be honest very disappointing. The hot food that was served was minimal (scrambled eggs and the saltiest bacon I've ever had). There was a large choice of breads and a few pastries but no cereals or the choice to have toast which was odd. The staff in the breakfast area were quite rude to us and kept staring waiting for us to finish. Through out our stay the hotel was being renovated and one night we went out late for dinner and the workmen were still there! To end this on a high I will say that the location of the hotel was amazing very close to everything lots of lovely restaurants and places to visit in Stockholm.

"Central, comfortable, perfect"
Viktoria25, 28 Mars 2016

The hotel is located middle of the city in Ostermalm. Walking distance of the harbour, Djurgarden, Gamla Stan and the central train station. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean and very comfortable. The building itself is a kind of art deco style with a big courtyard inside. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful....but the best thing to mention is the breakfast. They offered a fantastic variety of buffet style breakfast with all the usual things but triple the choice, with freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, delicious breads etc. I would really recommend this place to stay!

"Good hotel"
Ludwig W, 24 Mars 2016

Overall a very good hotel, albeit some minor things to improve. I stayed in a "superior" room, which was very nicely appointed with a big, comfortable bed and a nice desk for working. I also had a lovely view of the street below and of nearby Stureplan. A big plus for me was how beautifully the room was decorated, it truly felt unique, not at all boring like so many other hotels. The hotel WiFi was good, not exceptionally fast but perfectly fine for watching a movie and surfing the web. The bathroom was nice and quite spacious, however I could never quite get the water as hot as I would like it, and felt a bit disappointed at that. The breakfast was nicely done, although I very often feel that hotels in Sweden can improve on this a bit as the choices always seem limited and quite sparse compared to other countries. Overall a very nice hotel which I would definitely return to.

"4-star or mexican hostel?"
Larzon67, 23 Mars 2016

I travel a lot in both business and for leisure, so I have experienced a lot of different hotels. I have found that most of them have been quite accurate when it comes to the official rating. This is hotel is by far the biggest disappointment of them all. Me and my partner decided on a weekend in Stockholm and wanted to stay at a good hotel in the very centre. Ok, its really in the very centre of Stockholm, but thats ábout the only advantage. During our stay they were doing renovations of the lobby, which is no big deal as long as staff are welcoming and nice. This was not the case. Staff did their job, but without anything that made us as guests feel welcome. Felt more like we bothered them when they were talking to eachother. Alright, that happens at other places too nowadays. Then on to our room. We booked and paid for a double room and were given something that more looked like a single room at a mexican hostel Just have a look at the pic and decide for yourself. This is NOT worth the price paid. The room was small, dark and very depressing...and we even had the sink in our bedroom!!! We could have argued about this, but since we were in a rush to the swedish finals at ESC, we were stupid enough to accept it. Beds were quite ok, but so are the beds at Ibis and other budget hotels too. When one is staying at a 4-star hotel, one excepts a really good breakfast. But this proved to be yet another major disappointment. Breakfast room was also being renovated (which has to be done at all places at some time) and breakfast was served in the conference rooms. This would be fine if it was not for the mediocre food that was served and also the lack of variety. What was served was way under the level of such budget hotel chains as Travelodge, Ibis and others. Finally, Hotel Kung Carl has a slogan which goes like this: Elegant and Classical . With a bit of humour thats a bit amusing, but when having paid for a 4-star it feels more like a lie. Never ever again going back to this place!

"Perfect for what we needed"
KittyKat1987, 22 Mars 2016

Stayed here for 2 nights in February 2016. Booked 3 rooms for 3 couples. I work for best western and it is great to see that this hotel doesn't let the brand down. They were renovating when we stayed but this made absolutely no impact on our stay at all. Rooms were lovely and spacious. The only thing I would say is they were a little warm and being unable to open the windows was a bit fustrating. Breakfast was plentiful and varied which was nice to see. I was impressed with the iPad drinks dispenser. We will definitely be back again! Thank you very much!

"A Nice Hotel in the Centre of Stockholm"
MikeKwan, 21 Mars 2016

My family of four have stayed here for 3 nights. We have booked a family room which is a normal double room with an extra bunk bed, so it is a little bit crowded. My room is on the fifth floor with a small window and there is a shower area without bathtub. The check-in is smooth and the room is clean. I like the classic decorations of the hotel which is full of history. The hotel is located with 10 mins walk from the Metro station and close to the shopping area. The breakfast is nice too. The choice of food is slightly more than a classic continental breakfast; but don't expect a full American breakfast with a lot of hot dishes. It is generally nice and fine.

"Oldie but goodie..."
Otic, 27 Février 2016

Kung Carl celebrates its 140 year anniversary this year. The location is excellent, walking distance to the famous "gamla Stan" The hotel has atmosphere and history and contrary to modern hotels many rooms are in different classic decor. The facilities are ok such as bathroom, beds. The wifi works fine. The breakfast is one of the better ones experienced! The picture shows the old chandelier in our room#402

"Quirky Hotel, friendly staff"
stepgo, 04 Février 2016

I stayed here for one night. I liked it because it was a refreshing change from the normal chain Hotels. My room on 6th floor was small but comfortable. WiFi and breakfast were free. I imagine it could be quite noisy as it is very central, near lots of bars and restaurants, and they did supply ear plugs if required! The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, as were the restaurant and bar staff. If you are looking for something different to the norm, I would recommend this Hotel.

"Does not live up to "Premier" Status"
UncleRoger, 04 Février 2016

From the outside the hotel looks tiny but inside is quite large with around 150 rooms. The reception staff and the bar staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Check- in and check-out were quick and efficient. The bedroom was fairly basic and not at all special, I expect better from a Best Western Premier. It was impossible to get the room warmer than 17 degrees which is ok for sleeping but not for reading/watching TV. Room service was barely adequate - tea cups were not washed for us on one day, and tea making items were not topped up - we had to go to reception for spares. The bathroom was well equipped with good under-floor heating. The main weakness was the dining room. The staff failed to make any contact with ANY of the guests - not just us. There was not even a flicker of recognition, even after 3 days. Nobody even said good morning. Also, the limited supply of hot food (mainly scrambled eggs and bacon pieces) was cold, EVERY DAY.

"not very royal"
Kasia B, 27 Janvier 2016

nice rooms (a bit small but functional) but cold during the winter - airconditioner is not helping much, chambermaid was not worries that my soap was missing and did nothing with that, well, if it that cold in a room maybe she thought that I will not be interested in long shower rituals, different options for breakfast, small mini gym. Hotel seems to be super vintage so if you are looking for some young people in a lobby to hang out don`t bother, probably you will not find ther here. It is a good place for mature travellers who appreciate silence and vintage interior. Location is super good.

"Cozy hotel in Stockholm"
Michael S, 24 Janvier 2016

Stayed here for two nights in Jan.2016 (room 402 I think 1 pers.) I must say I really loved this hotel. It was a bit different from todays business hotels were every hotelroom feels the same no matter in wich hotel you are. Location quite good aprox. 200-300m. to nearest underground Östermalmstorg (next stop from C.station). The restaurant was also a cozy place wich really gave you the feeling that evereything is homemade and it was really good. If you're tired of monotone hotelrooms, try this for a change! And for every duracell man/women there's a gym on the top floor.

"Nice and cozy hotel well located for tourists"
Frank1207111, 17 Janvier 2016

I stayed for two nights end of August 2015 at the hotel Kung Karl as a tourist, and appreciated the place. Location was convenient to discover the city as it is just a few minutes walk from the waterfront, where you could take a boat or rent a bike. Breakfast was good. Room was rather small, with windows siding the inner court. The typically Swedish intensive use of wood for the furniture and the floor, alongside with the "teddy dog" decoration gave a cozy and comfortable touch to the room, that may not be everybody's taste, but was actually refreshing and pleasant. Sleep quality was good. Nothing really to complain about, certainly not cheap, but this is Stockholm.

"Acceptable not great"
meggo4ever, 30 Décembre 2015

We stayed here in late July as a pre- organized arrival for a family reunion, shocked to read exterior renovations are still taking place 5 months later. Our windows were completed plastic encased so no fresh air, and the a/c was the typical European draft, basically useless. Tiniest bathroom I've ever seen in Europe: I could sit on toilet while washing hands in sink and showering my legs. Great breakfast, although dining area over-crowded. Over acceptable, but would not recommend.

"Disappointing!"
Lynette M, 15 Décembre 2015

Once a great hotel, have been staying here for the past ten years but will not be returning. Visited Stockholm for St Lucia with friends and had recommended this hotel to them but was embarrassed by lack of service. Rooms not cleaned thoroughly, glasses and cups not washed after use, mouldy grout between tiles in shower, table tops not wiped, tiny bath towels. Cable TV broke down and although this was reported nothing was done to rectify it. Very noticeable that some refurbishment is required. Management has changed since my last visit but changes made don't seem to be for the good. Such a shame as the hotel is in such a great location in Stockholm.

"Lovely Western"
May A, 05 Décembre 2015

I guess I'm becoming N 1 guest and a big fan of Best Western Hotels Worldwide. As always Liked the hotel. Very nice and cozy. Perfectly situated. Main sightseeing places are easy reachable. When you are new to the city this a good choice to make. Breakfast were lil poor but generally it's alright. Coffee makes Everything Alright. Thanks Stockholm you were wonderful, especially with this Christmass mood.

"Quirky nice hotel in historic building"
SunriseSki, 27 Novembre 2015

The building is located completely in the centre, has a certain charisma, and so do the rooms, which are decorated in an old fashioned way: traditional beds, closets, an a very old looking not functioning huge clock, the paintings, diffuse lighting, etc. quite nice actually, and well functioning including the climate control. Windows are robust, could not hear the bustling traffic underneath. The breakfast offers a nice selection, but when you go there, the tables are bare. Need to pick up everything on your trips to the buffet. Quality and taste of food is good. At the same place can also eat lunch or dinner, they have a small menu, but it is all in Swedish only. Non of the waitresses spoke English when I was there either, but luckily one of the chefs did, so he explained what was being served and it was very good. There is a gym on the sixth floor which is small but with good equipment. Lots of windows give it an airy feeling. WiFi is easy, free, fast, accessible from everywhere. Very good. Two downsides: from the Lobby there is only one relatively slow and small elevator for six floors, which in addition is also being used by the cleaning stuff with their utensils, their carts full of old sheets Adam towels, etc. Plan your time. The hotel also has no parking, but they have a deal with a parking garage that is two blocks away, with extremely narrow parking spaces. No big deal, if there was not another public garage at one quarter the distance and which costs one third less.....(which of course now I recommend). Overall really like the hotel and would come back again.

"Good location for business meetings"
AndrewJ25, 27 Novembre 2015

We held a business workshop here recently and the location & facilities are really good. The business area has staff available all the time which makes a big difference. We had a couple of rooms both of which were well presented. Plenty of tables and chairs with everything looking in good condition. Projectors worked first time and good quality plus fast WiFi. Plenty of coffee and pastries throughout the day. Food in the restaurant is good as we ate there for lunch.

"Family atmosphere"
kristina321277, 18 Novembre 2015

The hotel had a good central location with a good breakfast. It was under construction at our visit so no windows. Also it was quite loud on the saturday night with all nightclubs outside. Ok place to stay when visiting central Stockholm.

"Reasonable Stay"
TravelALot1061, 08 Novembre 2015

Centrally located in Stockholm, walking distance to train station and city center. Check in and outprocess was fast, staff always friendly and helpful. I did have a room on the 6th floor, using the elevelator was a little bit time consuming, most probably on of the slowest elvelators I have ever experienced in my life. Room and bathroom were very small, ok for one person and a short stay. Everything was clean, bed very comfortable. Minibar was empty, not so nice arriving during the night and thursty. Breakfast was buffet form, selection and quality were good. WIFI was available, fast and complimentary in the room.

"A relatively dull hotel"
Flemming_Meineche, 06 Novembre 2015

A first sight the hotel seemed to have a lot of history but in the end could not deliver on the promise in any respect. Check-in went swift, but with the lobby a bit dull with no people anywhere I went to the room immediately to have a nightcap in the room before going to sleep. In the end I had to go to bed drinking a glass of tap water since there was no minibar in the room. Instead a package of earplugs was lying ready at my night table and three teddybears were put up decoratively in my bed (!?) each of which could be purchased in the lobby the following morning (happy not to have brought the kids along given that they would have thought it was a present from the hotel (as normally is the case with kids' toys in hotel room)). Finally, breakfast was ordinary bordering to below average. Will find another hotel the next time in stockholm...

"At odds with itself"
kavrod, 27 Octobre 2015

Stayed here for two nights. Construction was going on and the facade was decked in scaffolding. But I don't fault the hotel for this. It's perfectly reasonable that there would be some renovation at some stage and they did a good job of compensating guests for any trouble (ear plugs and a voucher for food and drink in the bar/restaurant). I was not disturbed by noise anyhow since I was up and out of the hotel before the workers got there. Really the only inconvenience was the obstructed view out of the huge bay windows in my room. A shame since the hotel is located in a nice central area and if you're in to city watching... Anyhow, ignoring the renovation work I don't know what to make of this hotel. It's certainly got character. It's old and has a very interesting architecture inside. It's as if two buildings which were neighbours have decided to merge into one making a kind of covered alleyway inside the hotel. Difficult to describe. The room I had was a generous size and had wonderfully high ceilings. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. All good things. But... I couldn't help the feeling that there were too many people for the size of the hotel. I'm not claustrophobic but it did feel squeezed - especially at breakfast rush (breakfast by the way is interesting in that every nook and cranny in the tiny restaurant is utilized to hide food, eggs here, cereal under the stairs, bread beside the bar... where's the juice?). Everything is corners, halls and narrow spaces (the mini-elevators are a good example). I'm all on for a hotel with a different character than the million bland business hotels, but there was little feeling of exclusiveness. It's really a regular business hotel experience with a high turnover of guests, stuffed inside an interesting old building. Would do much better with 15% fewer guests and a more exclusive experience (not sure 15% more expensive would work out though).

"Lovely location, but....."
Pete P, 27 Octobre 2015

Slam dunk in a beautiful downtown area. Room was incredibly small and the bath was was even smaller. Could barely turn around without bumping into myself. Building is circa 1925 and it can truly use some upgrades. Highly doubtful that I'll return.

"Beautiful hotel in perfect location"
LyndseyGibbs, 14 Octobre 2015

I stayed here for 6 nights on a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is quaint inside with pretty surroundings. My room was OK with a pretty porthole window. Apparently there are better rooms on the left side of the hotel, but I was quite satisfied. Breakfast is large & varied, but can be quite busy. My only advise is to call for toiletries after 7am as reception is only one person before then. Oh and sleep with the window open slightly - otherwise it's impossible to breathe!

"Terrible service left us with a bad taste of Stockholm"
InvisibleWoman, 13 Octobre 2015

In short, our stay at this (supposedly 4 star) hotel was a disaster. Positives: - Excellent location Negatives: - Old fashioned, dingy and unclean-feeling reception area, restaurant and bedrooms (very different from the photos) - While one of the receptionists tried to assist us, the others ranged from aggressive to indifferent - We were given two single beds, instead of the double bed we had booked well in advance - The windows were sealed off due to renovations that we had not been made aware of, so no view or even natural light in the rooms - We were upgraded to a better room after the first night, but there was freshly chewed chewing gum on the shelf and the shower door didn't close properly, causing a mess throughout the open-plan bedroom/bathroom - The bath water drained out onto the floor of the bathroom - The food in the restaurant was average to bad - My mobile phone power bank went missing from the room, with the staff claiming no knowledge of having seen it - One receptionist offered us a form of compensation, but we accused very aggressively by another receptionist of lying when we tried to claim it - We were promised that the manager would contact us the day after we left. Never heard from them despite emails we sent asking for their contact details We might have still enjoyed our stay in Stockholm in this rundown hotel if the staff had been organised, consistent and placed any kind of value on customer services. But the way we were treated by several of the reception staff (as well as the theft of our personal belongings) left a very sour taste of Stockholm in our mouths.

"Good location but what else?"
Lux2000, 07 Octobre 2015

I just stayed in a minimalistic room at Kung Carl. Must have been the smallest room I ever had. On top of this I was quite disappointed that the restaurant was closed when I arrived Sunday evening. Continuing on the same theme ordering in the bar is not my cup of the and not to expect from a hotel like this. Location is great, service ok and price quality actually above a three star rating. I will probably go back due to the very competitive price knowing how expensive it is to stay at hotels in Stockholm.

"Qood quality with reasonable price"
Timo L, 07 Octobre 2015

Hotel is centrally located and excellent for short business trips. each room is different. Not trendy and large hotel and therefore feels quite cosy from the beginnig. Nice personnel and decent breakfast. If possible, ask for room not facing the main street. Can be noisy.

"Small, cozy and a bit old"
MortenOlesen, 07 Octobre 2015

Stayed here for a night and everything was as expected - it's a converted apartment building and some might find it cozy but the fact is that everything is a "less than 100% well thought through solution". The best I can say is that it's located in the middle of the town and you find very nice restaurants just outside the door and it's fairly clean.

"Great location"
caniraa, 01 Octobre 2015

We got a quirky and adorable room at the top floor. The windows were tiny and were facing the street, but we did not mind (we usually don't hang out in the room too much). They were renovating the hotel at the time we were there, but we did not notice any noise in our room. The others we were traveling with were not as lucky with their first room, but it was no problem changing room. At check in the rooms was not ready, witch was a let down, but we left our luggage and went out to explore. The hotel is near Stureplan, close to the underground, and in walking distance to a lot of nice places. The breakfast is good. Not a lot of options, but I liked it. Would definitely consider another stay.

"Nice location but expensive"
Kunal79, 26 Septembre 2015

The hotel is located near Stureplan, which is convenient, but means that there is loud background noise on most of the nights. I have stayed there twice, and found the rooms to be very small in comparison to the price. Its good for a short stay of 1 or 2 days, but not ideal for anything longer.
