Best Western Clifton Hotel

I was really blown away with the view that we got from our room. It was truly magical. All three windows had a beach view which was super serene. The room itself was quite spacious and had everything a hotel room should require. The hotel staff are super nice and friendly and overall we had the best time staying there.

My partner and spent two days at Clifton, and totally enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. They even moved us a room closer to the lift as my partner had hurt herself a few days before. The rooms had been renovated recently and were lovely rooms with Safe and a Fridge big screen TV, with heaps of channels and movies, the only down side was we couldn't watch the TV in bed due to the angle the TV was on the wall. The bathroom was awesome with Rain Shower and normal head. Again the only thing missing was a shelf to put our condiment's on. The view we had was also lovely with ocean views one side and garden views on the other. A few hooks in the room might be handy but otherwise we totally enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.

After my friend was taken unwell the staff and Manager were very helpful and caring. In no way did they make us feel a nuisance but treated my friend with every consideration. The room was newly refurbished to a high standard, the communal areas, dining room and bar were all very clean and well decorated.

Spent one night in a newly refurbished family room on the third floor (with unexpected sea view) and then my mum had one night in a newly refurbished single room on the second floor (again with sea view). Both rooms are beautifully decorated, very comfortable (with excellent showers!). We had a great stay. The family room was very hot and so we turned the air con off, opened a window and turned the towel rail off in the bathroom (which was piping out heat!). The only issue with the family room is the fridge wasn't turned on (perhaps not plugged in but I couldn't seem to sort it myself!) and also there is no plug near the mirror for styling your hair. I reported this to reception and they took the comments kindly. The bathroom floor also needed a mop/clean as it wasn't spotless. Single room was great for one person but again the carpet really needed a vacuum. Breakfast was great as was dinner. The dinner, bed and breakfast rate was very competitive and we'll be back again!

The hotel staff are super polite and friendly and my room was immaculately refurbished with a fantastic bathroom. The view was great and the price was spot on. I'm coming back to the Leas Cliff Hall several times in the next few months and I'll stay here every time, I only live in canterbury but enjoy the experience so much I don't want to go home!

Every penny counts, so when you save money and treat yourself you want the best. We've had better hotel experiences and I wouldn't rush back there. Dirty toilet seat, cold breakfast and dirty staircase, I mean, come on, they're just the basics

We came here for New Years Eve including the gala meal at the Marco Pierre White Restaurant in the Hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable and was newly refurbished. Throughout our stay, including the restaurant, the staff were very attentive and helpful. There was definitely a party atmosphere and the DJ got everyone up and dancing.

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Clifton Hotel for 5 days over Christmas.We have stayed here lots of times over the last few years. We had a room on the second floor,we normally stay in,which had just been renovated. Absolutely beautiful, furniture,marble top on Dressing Table and Coffee Table. A large king size bed,so comfortable. Two comfortable small armchairs.Large flat screen TV wall mounted.The Bathroom done in Egyptian Marble all round.Walk in shower so easy to operate. The room absolutely stunning. The food through out our stay was a delight. Wine excellent.All the staff professional, efficient,polite.Could not do enough for you,From Philippa, Zida,David, Kathy, Amit,Sig and the Chefs Lal and Ali in fact everyone of the Staff are first class. The changes that have been made to this hotel since it was taken over by the present owner Menon are quite unbelievable. When the renovations are complete it will undoubtedly be the best hotel in Folkestone.

The hotel is undergoing refurbishment, and we were lucky to get a recently done up room with a sea view. The room was clean and very well appointed with lots of plug points and USB charging. The bathroom was also spotless. We ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant, and while pricy, the food was very good. Breakfast had a varied choice. All staff we encountered were freindlt, helpful and professional.

Overall, the hotel is very good value for money, staff very helpful and polite. The facilities are excellent, breakfast lovely with great choice. The only thing that let my stay down was the bed in 473

Stayed for 2 nights, I really liked the hotel, I had an old room with a view of the channel, the room was huge and comfortable but was a little dated. Some of my colleagues had some smaller and new rooms which were also nice. Breakfast was good and the bar was nice for an evening drink. Parking is an issue. No enough spaces and we ended up with 2 tickets even after passing our car registration.

I do believe this hotel is currently under refurbishment. If you do book here, make sure you ask to stay in one of the new rooms. Myself and my 5 yr old child were placed in one of the old rooms which quite frankly was a death trap for a small child. The large sash windows didn't have a child lock and were at a very low height, causing a risk for small children falling out. The fan was dirty beyond belief and the front cover had broken off so it too was a death trap for a small child. The TV didn't work, the room wasn't clean and it smelt bad. I called to reception to change rooms but there was no answer on several occasions. It being late and alone with a small child, I had to resign to being in the horrible room so my child could get to sleep. Massively overpriced for an awful experience!

We were a group of five friends enroute for Germany on our motorcycles. We were worried about parking , but they had a spot for us close by . The hotel is beautiful the Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very good too. Would definitely go again

We have stayed at the Clifton many times and always enjoy our stay thanks to the friendly and caring staff. We were pleasantly surprised to be allocated one of the newly refurbished bedrooms. This made the stay even better than before. Stylish and calming interiors with a lovely big shower. Food is always good too in the bar and restaurant. The sun even came out for us, we had a great time. Thanks!

Had one of the new refurbished executive rooms wow! Comfy beds, aircon, fridge and safe in room also. We had parcial sea view stunning location, on the leas, over looking the English channel. Breakfast great choice, full English/continental, yoghut, fresh pastries. Philipa on receiption is one of the loviest people you will ever meet.

I can't fault anything. I stayed just 2 nights with my granddaughter. Sea view twin room with breakfast included. The breakfast was one of the best I've ever had in a hotel. Huge variety of choices. Cooked perfectly, fresh. Coffee was excellent too. Service was spot on, all the staff were super friendly and helpful. We had evening dinner in the restaurant, again, great food & service . The parking bays beside the hotel , you can get a day ticket for £4 at reception. Unfortunately it was always full on our stay , but there were loads of spaces on the seafront , & they are free after 6 pm, so it wasn't hugely expensive to park anyway. Location was perfect. Comfy beds, clean linen & towels . Kettle etc, hairdryer, iron , tv, complimentary toiletries all supplied. Yes there's creaky floorboards ,& yes if you want to point out the odd cracked tile or tired carpets , you can find these things. But this didn't affect the enjoyment of our stay, we loved everything about the hotel.

Although we had a couple of issues with our newly-refurbished room, once we complained, we received a full apology and were refunded in full. Great customer service. We would definitely re-book. It seemed a lovely hotel.

A beautiful hotel, a superbly comfortable bed and polite friendly staff. The breakfast was gorgeous too. Friendly polite staff and a great night's sleep. I spilled two cocktails in the lift but it was no problem for the super staff.

This hotel is a good representation of a by gone age, the building is dated and some improvements are underway but this doesn't detract from the overall appeal of this experience.staff are friendly and the breakfast is top notch We will visit again

Best Western certainly has a diverse range of hotels with their own individual character. The Clifton is no exception. I had what was described as a Double Room with Front Sea View. The bedroom was very spacious and tastefully decorated and furnished, albeit looking a bit jaded. There was scaffolding partially obstructing the sea view. The windows were old and the paintwork was flaking. It was impossible to get them to stay open. There was no air conditioning. The bathroom was conversely very compact indeed and the extraction fan was terribly noisy. I got a good deal price wise with the loyalty scheme I belong to, on the app I book with, but nevertheless, this room was definitely in need of updating.

Pleasant staff. Brilliant and plentiful breakfast. Food during day good. Hotel undergoing a well overdue make over.. This brings limitations at the moment which were not advised to me at time of booking nor with subsequent emails from hotel. I feel this is wrong and poor service!

Got moved due to flooding in our original hotel, and what a great move it was, staff super friendly and accommodating, as we had an early departure missing breakfast, a lunch bag was made for us all (ready for our 5am leave). Hotel being modernised, room was ok but bathroom needed to be updated. Bar staff excellent and meal in the restaurant was one of the best had in a long time.

I stayed two nights whilst renovations were taking place. Despite the stay being over a weekend, the works started both mornings at 8am. The room I checked into had a broken shower so I had to be moved on the first morning. Both rooms were tired and stained, with old, tatty bathrooms and dirty carpets. Reception staff did what they could but it was terrible value for such a high cost.

We had the most brilliant wedding at the Clifton Hotel in Folkestone. David Lowe and his team went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly. He was also amazing during all the planning and put us in touch with the fabulous Hayley, who did all the flowers (including my bouquet) and room decor, David Wimble, who played a cracking disco and Stephen, a truly gifted pianist. Many of our 50 guests said it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to. They loved the vegetarian buffet and the intimate atmosphere. The children scampered around outside on the lawn, while other guests sat on the terrace. Our en suite room was lovely and other guests stayed in the hotel too, which made life easier. We're so grateful to all the staff for making it such a perfect day.

It was great although my wife and I didn't stay there the room my sister's my brother his fiancée and daughter stayed in were very lush great venue for parties weddings etc close to the beach but long walk to it as the lift don't work at the moment

Only stayed one night but enjoyed our stay clean, tidy hotel and friendly staff. Room was clean and tidy but in need of updating which they are in the process of doing just unlucky we got an old room. Would definitely return

The first thing I noticed was the gloom and smell of stale carpets in the corridors as I made my way to my room. I found the lift, through trial and error, which had a sign saying '1 person at a time'. I'm not confident that it was engineered to be a lift, maybe an upcycled dum waiter. The sign inside the lift, warning me not to bounce was respected and I was grateful to get to my floor as the same stale carpet was used to line the walls of the lift. My room was stale, and hot which made for an uncorfatable two nights. The entire hotel was clearly neglected since the 1970s and there wasn't even any attempt to disguise this with a lick of paint. I appreciate, that it would take some investment to make the hotel functional but things like filthy black windows, tattered ripped curtains, and stale cartons of milk are just insulting.

This hotel has a very nice bar and a Marco pierre white restaurant the restaurant which offers some very good value meal deals the food is excellent drinks are good value in the hotel bar breakfast in the hotel is in the restaurant which has a good selection of cold meat cheese fruit and bread and the hot section has a good variety we had a large room which was very nice with a big bed

Had a wonderful experience having birthday lunch as part of Dine in a Dome. We have to give a special mention to our personal waiter Anish. His service was brilliant!! Very attentive and very personable and really made a difference to the overall experience. The food was delicious too. We were really impressed. Will definitely return.

We had a three course Christmas lunch today, the professional staff, wonderful service and glittering Christmas environment made it a magical experience. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing the best Christmas lunch ever precious memories for us all xxx

We held a farewell afternoon tea for our boss lady at the Clifton Hotel. Yet again they surpassed themselves. The staff were so helpful with setting up the venue and helping with the decorations. They really did go the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble. Special mention to Philippa, Zaida, Cathy, Liam. We couldn't have done it without you. The service from the waiters was professional, friendly and again nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon tea itself was excellent - from the sandwiches to the cakes and I have to say the scones were amazing. They were huge and warm. We all had a wonderful afternoon, and our boss had the best send off. If you are thinking about holding a celebration look no further than the Clifton Hotel. I cannot recommend highly enough. Thanks again team Clifton. Hopefully see you again in the not-too-distant future. Keep up the good work!

This is a lovely hotel, with amazing views, friendly staff and good food. But the noise all night from the lounge below and outside was horrendous. Kept us awake until 4.45am. E were told it was a one off, as a noisy group were staying… but there was not consideration for others staying….

Stayed for one night to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were greeted by Phillipa who welcomed us and gave us all the information we needed including sorting out our parking outside the hotel, £4 until next day at midday. The hotel is old and has many original features. I liked the quirkiness and yes maybe the room did look a little dated but had everything we needed: comfy bed, iron and ironing board, cooling fan, heaters, fluffy towels, nice toiletries, tea and coffee and plenty of hot water. We had a partial sea view too. After a blustery walk down the zig-zag path decided to have a drink in the bar. We were greeted with enthusiasm by Hammid (hope I've got that right) who's knowledge and skill were put to good use! What an absolute star. We had booked one of the dining domes and despite it blowing a gale outside, was warm and comfortable. We were shown to our dome by Hammit who introduced us to our waiter Sanjit. We were given a Bluetooth speaker so we could play our own music and a remote control for the heater. Were were on a special deal but chose food from the a la carte menu and they adjusted the price accordingly. The food was fabulous, served with a lovely attitude by Sanjit (not easy in gale force wind!) Everything about the experience was wonderful. We finished our night with a couple of cocktails, made expertly by Hammit and we came away feeling we had made a friend (my new grandson!) We loved it so much we booked there and then for my birthday in December. Breakfast was pleasant with plenty of choice. When we checked out I said I wanted to join the rewards club. Phillippa took my details and did it all for me, emailing me details of my membership. The staff are a real asset to this hotel; professional but warm and friendly. Thank you for our lovely stay.

This is a brilliant hotel and very comfortable. Have been very pleased with the rooms we have stayed in over the past few years. All the staff are friendly and make sure you are looked after. Food is excellent. Great location for getting out and about.

I went to the bar for a drink in the evening and found that the staff serving didn't smile or have any sense of Customer Service. There were three staff on and they definitely looked like they didn't want to be there. The manager herself spoke as if she had a smell under her nose Overall good value for money for drinks but they do need to get rid of their staff and get some staff in that actually know how to serve customers with with care and perhaps a smile for the people that are paying their wages.

Stayed on a Saturday night. Found free parking less than 10 minute walk away. Had a lovely room overlooking the sea with huge windows. Shower powerful and bed was really big and comfortable. Ate in Folk harbour but decided to try a cocktail before bed. Dan the barman definitely knows how to make a margarita..it was delicious! Well done as hes only been there 3 months. Breakfast in morning was very good with plenty of choice . Cannot fault anything but only reason it's not 5 stars is that a few areas of hotel are quite dated ..however we would definitely stay again.

We had a lovely stay at the Clifton in a beautiful bay windowed sea view room. The room had a nice size bathroom with a bath as well as a shower. It was a large room with a comfortable bed and nice linen. We also enjoyed breakfast in the dining room where there were a lot of choices for breakfast with hot and cold choices available. Staff were polite and helpful. There is a very small lift to upper floors. i enjoyed the Victorian decor and am sorry we were only there for one night. Would stay again and recommend to friends and family.

Not a bad hotel. The reception area is modern and tidy. The staff friendly snd welcoming. We stayed here for 4 nights in a 'Superior Room'. The room was big and ok. The wallpaper was stained and not very nice, obviously they've had problems with a leaking roof or gutter in the past Tea and coffee is provided but be aware there is a charge if you want any more than a cuppa each! The bathroom was ok but didnt have a shelf or anywhere to keep toiletries etc. The hotel is about 12-15 minute walk from the Railway Station, right on the sea front although the beach is a long wsy below, with no easy access. But the walk aling the top is good.

The location is excellent, and I was blessed with s seaview room. Restaurant is definitely a plus. But do NOT trust the bar staff to serve your evening cocktail on time! It was unfortunate that my stay coincided with an Airshow, and so I had to move my car to an underground car park a little distance away, but these things happen...

Enjoyed a delicious lunch in the Marco Pierre White conservatory room overlooking the green. Started with a scotch egg which was rather old skool and enjoyable. Main was the roast lamb with fondant potatoes, medium rare was my choice and it was melt in your mouth exquisite.. All washed down with a glass of aromatic Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. Highly recommended!

Friendly staff and clean hotel. Would recommend. Excellent location, very close to the town and walking distance to the beach. We stay at the Clifton a lot and have always found the staff to be very friendly and the hotel is so welcoming.

Having read some unfavourable reviews just before we travelled, I was slightly concerned abut staying at the Clifton Hotel but I really needn't have worried, we had a very enjoyable time. The hotel is in a great location, close to the sea front and Leas Cliff Hall and a short walk to the Harbour Arm. There's plenty of parking and the hotel offers an excellent rate so don't top up on RinGo! I had requested an accessible room and we were given a lovely big room on the first floor with a large bay window looking out onto the gardens and sea. The room was spotlessly clean and, although we felt the overall look was a little dated, it was perfectly pleasant and comfortable. No air conditioning but an electric fan was provided which was very useful. However, I understand that AC is being fitted into rooms during the ongoing refurbishment. The buffet breakfast was pretty good with a selection of cereals, fruit, yogurts etc plus the usual hot cooked foods. Hot drinks were available to order rather than having to use those machines that tend to offer lukewarm rather than boiling water - bonus points for that! The refurbishment has begun and the ground floor reception, lounge, restaurant, lower floor cloakrooms etc have been redecorated to a good standard (maybe not my taste but that's by the by!). The lounge area was very pleasant and we had a drink there on our first evening. Helpful bar staff and good service. There appeared to be one very small lift serving all rooms and, on a couple of occasions, there was a small queue for it. However, I believe there are plans to install something bigger and better. All in all, a great stay at this hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Swiss Tony voice: "Trading-in some Tesco vouchers for a three-night stay at The Clifton Hotel is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman: you're not quite sure of the warmth and depth of the welcome and, whilst she was eager to please, you found her upholstery to be in a slightly tatty and well-thumbed state." The Clifton is arguably the largest hotel on the Leas and has seen many a guest over what it likely to have been a century or more of opertion. The reception and lounge area are compact but the steps up to the front entrance are steep with there being no indication of the access slope to the side. I'd checked us in online beforehand so formalities were brief. We were obliged to carry our own goods and chattles to what turned out to be a most disappointing room on the fourth floor. The corridors are narrow, jaded and airless; there being no air-con away from the reception, bar and restaurant areas. On a very hot day, this is a significant factor. The lift was tiny and allowed just one passenger at a time. I can't be sure whether the Clifton had been a tall-mast ship in a former life as the slope on the floor of our room was something to be hold. The room itself was barely fit to be described as a double and felt claustrophic, cramped and tatty. It had no air-con installed and relied on a fan on a stand for air circulation. My wife hated it and reception agreed to move us to a better room the next day. We weren't told that the room was accessible from ANOTHER lift so there was some confusion when it came to moving our stuff across. Our second room was much larger and had a higher standard of comfort although I noticed evidence of damp seeping through the wallpaper on one wall. Breakfast was plentiful and forthcoming in the swish dining room although I felt that plant-based milks & decaf teas and coffees should have been available. We visited the front lounge bar a few times and found it somewhat pricey but with decent enough service. Afternoon tea on the back terrace was lovely: a cold drink option should be forthcoming at no extra cost for those (like us) who weren't drinking tea or coffee. The service was impeccable. I was able to avail myself of the hotel's car-parking scheme which proved to be very cost-effective: £4 for 24 hours as opposed to £1.50 per hour for the local council's RingGo-based option. A bit of a no-brainer so that would be my recommended option. There's a lively bar right opposite which is something that those seeking a quiet stay with rooms at the front & sea-facing sides of the hotel should bear in mind. Overall, the grand old lady of the Leas did well although I'd advise significant redevelopment of many of the older rooms and larger lifts to be installed.

Having broken down on arriving in Folkestone, we needed to find a place to stay at 10pm. Called this hotel and spoke to the manager Alex who was simply exceptional. Not only did he accommodate us, he organised extra sofa beds, moved his own car so we could park nearby and stayed way passed the end of his shift to make this happen. Additionally, the rest of the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating making our short stay a happy one given the circumstances. Highly recommend this hotel even if for a short stay, we'll worth it and sure it will be even better when it's had a returb later in the year. Thank you Alex and team.

Grumpy Rude Bar staff. This place was happy enough to take our money during Covid and did it very graciously. But how the worm turns, My Wife and I had been here several times for coffee and Lunch and really enjoyed the atmosphere, but this time it was our anniversary and we wanted to go out but without to much formality. Well we certainly got that. No table service. No waiters. Not Hotel guests but walk in guests, The whole evening was a disaster from the drinks order to the food. I'd love to elaborate but it's better to avoid this place during peak times for so many reasons. Management please feel free to contact me for more details if you are interested.

We were astounded that there was no proper lift, just a converted service lift which I personally would be terrified to use. Our 'executive double' was on the 3rd floor, and anything but executive. The whole room was totally worn out but reasonably clean. Obviously converted from a once grand victorian terrace, the paintwork scuffed and worn, painted lining paper on the walls, which was in poor condition. Old and stained carpet, window did not fit, elderly furnishings. Bathroom was very old fashioned, taps stuck at will, shower curtain (?) Could not open the window more than 4 inches, so the room remained very hot and airless, although a fan was provided. Breakfast was another trial, obviously this hotel caters for groups, so breakfast is self service, however when a large group descends on the restaurant together there is not enough space to cater for anyone. Elderly bain maries do not keep the insipid food warm, they simply dry it out. The choice was adequate, but not appetising.Disappointed. Our room faced a busy car parking area, with a busy garden bar opposite, obviousy no peace late at night or in the early hours. We are both in our seveties, so climbing 3 flights of stairs several times a day became a bit of a trial. It would have helped if someone had mentioned the lack of a useable lift before we booked. Would not recommend at all, however would probably be ok for a night if moving on the next day. It could be we have just been unlucky with our booking, but would certainly not return.

Have stayed before and good value for the money we paid. We went on one of the special offers where we received overnight stay, evening meal and a full buffet breakfast. Made use of the bar where we had cocktails on the 2 4 1 offer. Well situated at the west end of Folkestone overlooking the Leas. You are within walking distance of the town where you will find coffee shops and novelty tea shops. Some of the other attractions are a little further on.

The hotel is very tired once you are beyond the entrance of the hotel. No aircon in the rooms, very old decoration and the bathroom is appalling. Sealant in the bathroom was mouldy and the bath leaked; there was toothpaste on the unused glass and the flooring was disgusting. Room wasn't ready when we arrived later in the evening after checking in earlier and the bag wasn't taken to the room. Get to breakfast early or they may run out or it has sat there for a while.

The room was very warm (estimated at 28C°). we could not open the windows (only 10 cm) and the room could not be ventilated. It was difficult to fall asleep in the heat. Both days we were woken up by seagulls at 6am. the equipment was clean but worn.

We stayed at the hotel for a long weekend. It was very central, close to the train station and facilities. Beautiful area for walks and the views of the beach, sea etc were great. Marco Pierre White restaurant on site as well as a lounge with bar and a coffee area.

Stayed here for 2 night break while visiting family. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Room is very clean but is in need of a refurbishment. Lifts are tiny only one person at a time so stairs can be a bit challenging if your on a higher floor. Parking is a bit hit and miss especially if you need to take the car out during your stay. Hotel is located in a lovely area with beautiful sea views.

Would have been an excellent review if only bathroom was not so tired . Staff friendly especially at breakfast , the sea view from room 343 was truly amazing, such a shame bathroom was poor , but was acceptable for 1 night.

We've had several meals before in Ocean Bleu over the last couple of years and they have been absolutely faultless, however, we have never stayed in the hotel. We stayed on Friday night - the room was lovely overlooking the sea and very clean. However, the breakfast was awful. Although the plates were warm, the food in the hot plate containers was luke warm and almost inedible, which is such a shame as this was the only thing that let them down. I would stay here again definitely, but I would definitely not waste money on the breakfast.

We stayed at the Best Western Clifton Hotel while my children took part in a big dance competition weekend. It was a perfect location and we were less than a minute-walk from the Cliff Leas Hall. But, the best part of our stay for me was the staff. The bar staff were so warm and welcoming all weekend, accommodating our needs wherever they could. And, I have to commend Philippa who works on the front desk. After leaving some expensive dance costumes at the hotel, which I was very upset about, Philippa wen out of her way to locate them and send them back to us, which wasn't probably easy as they're not small. So, a big thank you to her and all the loveyl staff at the hotel. Great access to the beach too...

We had the most wonderful overnight stay at this hotel,with an amazing deal which included and excellent breakfast. The staff were absolutely incredible nothing was too much trouble for them,they were so polite friendly and helpful, thank you all so much. Had a room that was spotlessly clean overlooking the sea (albeit a little dated) especially the bathroom but it was very clean!! Thank you to you all for a great overnight stay,just wish it had been longer We stayed in room 345 with a beautiful view.

A really friendly, kind and helpful welcome from Alexander: he was the reason we decided to stay and we don't regret it. Really good breakfast, super location and bright, spacious room. The modernisation in the communal areas is also good.

Booked 3 rooms for visiting family and friends. Everyone very positive and complementary of their accommodation and breakfast, added to the excellent location! Great beach walks and excellent helpful and polite staff. A definite ‘go to' for future visitors, thank you Best Western, Folkestone!

We stayed at the Clifton hotel for a short break all the team delivered amazing customer service. The public rooms were good, the bedroom would benefit from a refurb however it was clean and comfortable.

I stayed at the best Western . receptionist and dated room, but wow. It's like staying with friends once your hospitality experience starts. Fantastic service, amazing food. The head chef even sorted my tie. This is such a rare find in todays market. A real family Hotel that goes above and beyond. This hotel has to be the very best best Western has to offer. If you want that home from home Hotel, this is the one in a million

The bar staff Abhi and Amit were tremendous hosts dealing with a large family group. Excellent and efficient service, expertly mixed cocktails and the food was very good with an exceptional chicken curry.

Bedrooms are slightly dated but everything in good working order. Large comfortable bed to lounge around on while watching tv, eating good food delivered by room service. Service at the bar, restaurant or just ordering a coffee is always quick and efficient. The staff are friendly, some of whom have been there for many years, which is a good sign of a well run hotel.

The restaurant is amazing Sunday lunch is to die for & breakfast is my favourite and the breakfast coffee is fantastic Fantastic location for some great walks along the Leas and down the cliffs. Amazing value too if you join the rewards scheme. I paid £53 for a double room with 2 breakfasts!!!!!

Booked through Bestwestern.com as we thought it was in Dover. We called to ask to change hotels and where told we would be charged for the room. At this point we should have just took our lumps and wen to where we wanted to stay. Nice location Poor rooms not very clean and the staff was miserable

A grand old building in a quiet part of town with parking available outside. The room we had was an upgrade but still a little tired and dated, but comfortable/ Overall it worked well as a stopover before the 15 minute journey to Eurotunnel in the morning, and we would consider staying again if the price was right.

Walking distance to train, bus, beach, town... Lovely hotel, not new but with lots of charm. Great sea view. Friendly staff. Breakfast was good. Loved the sound of the seagulls. Folkstone and area around are clean, easily accessible and worth a visit. We would like to come back and would choose this hotel again. Perfect with a young child. Also great check in and out.

Fantastic and delicious breakfast with plenty of choice. Very friendly and welcoming staff. What a lovely scenery especially if you have a room with the window facing the sea. Nothing the hotel could do about the seagulls making noise early in the morning!

I honestly felt like I went through a time travelling experience back to the 1980's. This has been the WORST hotel stay of my life. Genuinely I've stayed in hostels which are better than this. The state of the room was embarrassing. Stains on the lights, cracks in the wall, the most basic room I've ever seen. The bed was itchy, no air conditioning, instead a fan. Yes. A desk fan. The windows rusty and falling apart. This hotel has clearly spent it's entire budget on the food/ dining experience. The food did look great, and reading other reviews it seemed that way. But the fact they call this a room is quite frankly deluded. There's hotel rooms that offer single rooms, with double beds, actual air con, furbished bedrooms and much more. Please for your own sanity do not spend your money here. I've been to 3rd world countries which have better facilities and there only hostels. There's no excuse for how poor this room was. They claim COVID has effected their ability to refurbish the rooms, yet they have been saying this since 2020. It's just a bad excuse. I will never, ever, stay at this chain again in my life. Dear god. A tsunami from the ocean would renovate this hotel in a better condition than what it's in currently. Pros: Smartly dressed and polite staff. Cons: the entire room and decor.

Everything basic, not very clean, and rooms run off, but the location beats that all. Restaurant doesn't serve local food service and reception denies to give any other recommendation when asked for where to get such. Even it is a disappointing hotel, I will come back. If it was ever true, location, location, location.

I have stayed at this hotel before and have found the place to be really nice warm and very characteristic, from the weird lift to the charming rooms with a view it's somewhere I've stayed before and would stay again no problems. I am however concerned at the food menues inaccuracies. I've been so concerned I have emailed the GM direct as it's both potentially illegal and absolutely unsafe. The good menu In ocean bleu is not the biggest so I'd assumed that it would be upto date. I ordered the burger and a drink the burger is listed as burger brioche bun and chunky chips no mention of the cheese that comes with it nor is there a mention about the mayonnaise that comes on it. Both of which are allergines that need to be listed. I wanted a fairly long time and sent two burgers back before finally getting to eat. I wasn't best pleased and raised it at the time with the food and beverage supervisor who agreed with me that it needs to be urgently addressed. No problems at all with the rooms the staff are amazing however the Ocean Bleu let you down big time. I will be back soon I hope this issue is addressed as a matter of urgency and my next visit goes off without a hitch. Rooms perfect Staff perfect Food to be desired

Hi I read previous reviews on my way to this hotel and for the most part I have to agree but we knew what to expect. However the food from the restaurant was indeed excellent the staff were friendly and quirky it is as if they knew how good the food was. The room was basic and dated but our experience in the restaurant made it a worthwhile stay. If I was only starring the restaurant it would have been 5

We spent 2 days as a birthday celebration, the hotel was in a nice position and the staff gave us a warm friendly welcome. We had a deluxe room overlooking the garden area. The room was clean and well serviced. Breakfast was good buffet style but with extras you could ask for.

We stayed at this seafront Hotel in Folkestone, it is a very impressive building. The 2nd day of our stay, storm ‘Eunice' arrived, so we stayed indoors, but that was not a problem as we were safe and comfortable. The food here is excellent in the ‘Marco Pierre White' restaurant, breakfast was excellent, with a good choice, we will return again. We often have lunch in the ‘Ocean Bleu' bistro. Rooms are as you would expect high ceilings and big windows, but they are well maintained and are more than comfortable.

I stay at the Clifton a few times a tear when I come to visit relatives and I enjoy it every time. It's an old, partly listed, building and has wonderful quirks and character with lots of atmosphere. It is being gradually refurbished and the public areas are modern while still retaining the 'elegance' and comfort for the guests. My room on this stay hadn't been refurbished yet but was spacious, clean, comfortable and had all the required amenities you'd expect. The extensive buffet breakfast is a wonderful start to the day and the Restaurant for dinner has delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. the staff throughout the hotel are welcoming, friendly and efficient. I shall see them again on my next visit.

When I booked the room I asked the best they had with a sea view I had a sea view but the room was a very poor quality I was very embarrassed when I took my partner they're telling her that I booked an executive suite in fact I got something below standard the bathroom you can hardly turn around is extremely dated the room itself was extremely dated was very disappointed

The windows didn't fit properly resulting in a cold room. I didn't notice until the second night when an electric heater was put in the room. It was a little warmer but still not great. The windows were old and need to be replaced.

I had a lovely winter stay, great staff, great food, great views. I can just imagine how busy it would be in the summer months. a very very good location and was fab waking up to the lovely views in the words of arne i will be back.xxx

Lovely clean room. Comfortable bed. Some modernisation would enhance the experience but everything was functioning. There was some evening noise from ‘Scuba' which is a club opposite but being January we could keep the windows shut so not too much of an issue.

Great position for a venue we went to. Rooms so need updating but bar/ restaurant area good although I think some rooms may have been completed. Right on seafront and quick walk into the town so position made up for it. Only a short stay

we stayed as we went to a show at the leas . very impressed with staff yes rooms are dated and shower did not work only the lower hand held one .fantastic meal and good drinks at bar .we stayed in room 471 .also the radiator cover was off and laying on floor .we had a good stay and are going back in june for another concert and stay .breakfast was lovely .overall the good things overtook the bad things and cant complain to much as they are due a refit ..

Booked to stay for 1 night on the Cheers and Chill package and was so impressed that decided to stay another night too. All staff were very friendly and helpful and the meal in the evening was fantastic. Well worth the money. Rooms are a bit old fashioned but its nice that they are kept in character with the building.

I had a very nice room with a sea view and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was functional but dated. I understand that a refurbishment was due but had to be postponed because of the pandemic. The location is great and I would happily stay another time.

Together with my partner we came to the Clifton Hotel to spend lovely time but since we arrived it didn't seemed like we actually gonna have a lovely time we wished for. We've had a lovely room with the sea view which we were really happy with but the flush in the toilet wasn't working, lovely Lady from reception swap the room for as without any issues sadly the room we get left us with loads to wish for. We went to the bar waiting for 20 minutes to be served as there was no staff finally we manage to order drinks and some snacks with some issues as the man behind the bar seemed to not understand what we want, while we were eating the same member of staff was burping behind the bar watching the videos on his phone while another member of staff was swearing we felt like we were on the farm such a disappointment. In the evening we were dining at dome and here's a big thank you for the lovely man who served as and made sure we have a lovely evening and the food was amazing. I would recommend this place for dining but definitely not for the overnight stay we've the loved ones.

For the second time I spent Christmas at the Clifton Hotel in Folkestone. I also use the hotel for overnight stays to arrive next morning at the Channel Tunnel. I will happily do so again.What I do object to is being told by this website how much I must write.

I wanted to speak with the team prior to writing a review but as Best Western has insisted I will proceed. The front of house guy with dark hair and glasses should NOT be front of house. He has no understanding of customer service or empathy - I dont think he had a soul in all honesty. The rooms are extremely dated - Lots of issues with rooms (Spoke to other guests and they seem to have similar rooms), I love and appreciate historical decor to match these beautiful buildings. This was just not maintained - Nothing worked well and everything was breaking or falling apart. The worst part was when I went to run a bath and found white powder on the glass shelf in the bathroom! I felt embarrassed for them and called down to reception. It was my friend from reception that did the clean up, again just soulless and barely said a word! Just shocking. Cannot believe there was no apology or gesture of good will. I feel a bit annoyed but going forward I will never book a best western again (Its a shame because my favourite hotel in Bournemouth is a Best western but do not want them having another penny of my hard earned money)

Stayed at the Clifton on a number of occasions and never been disappointed. Friendly staff throughout our stay, a good standard maintained throughout the hotel and a most enjoyable meal with a glass of prosecco to top off our weekend stay. I was recommended this hotel by a local friend. Unfortunately, I'd started my weekend with a booking through booking.com that turned out to be a bit like the Villa Bella hotel from the OFAH Jolly Boys Outing! I didn't stay there (the Chandos Premier Hotel/Hostel which I would NOT recommend) but rang the GW Clifton Hotel directly instead to make alternative arrangements. They were so courteous at the Clifton Hotel and they agreed a room price with me that I felt was very good value. The standard of cleanliness and safety was much more like you should be able to expect and the room was warm and well set up with bathroom facilities that looked like they had been modernised recently. It was lovely and quiet with a view out over the garden and towards the sea. I added breakfast in the morning. I think I would only stay at the Clifton if I chose to visit Folkestone for a weekend again. It's very well located and ran as a friendly and efficient establishment even though it was buzzing with activities and guests around Christmas.

After arriving late after being so badly let down by another hotel close by I was really pleased with the hotel and their friendly funny staff. Unfortunately the room they put me in first the room was like the baltic as the window was broken, as soon as I informed front of house they bent over backwards to assist me. They upgraded my room to a lovely room and were very apologetic the staff were really friendly and the the new room was really comfy warm and a really comfortable sleep. The two days I stayed I found incredibly friendly staff and very cosy room the only little thing I could say is the window rattled a little bit but I solved that by putting a coffee sachet in it. Can't beat the quality of such a great team and such q relief after my hotel hell from Down the road. Will recommend a stay again

Top marks for the hotel and restaurant staff and the Ground floor. Lounge Bar good, Costa Coffee a real bonus. Breakfast good. But the bedrooms are a real let down. First the positives( short list) room very clean and bed comfortable. That was it really. Negatives; creaking floorboards, all of them! Creaking from room upstairs and in the hallway. I felt sorry for the people in the room below. Noise from outside, Saturday night all night until 2AM. Single glazed windows meant you could hear almost every word. Mismatched and ricketty furniture (check chair in 241). I booked an executive room but I failed to see what extras there were over and above the standard room, the room was large but cold radiators did not get warm enough. The shower in the bath was just a dribble and the toilet flush made a noise like a cow mooing.

First of all, this is not a five star hotel. It's a three star, so don't go expecting sheer luxury. Having said that, I had a decent room, with a gorgeous sea view for 50 quid a night, which seems to me a bargain. The staff, particularly Philippa on the front desk, were lovely and the hotel is in a great location - right next to steps down to the seafront and close to the town centre if you're going out. The bar across the road is a bit noisy at nights but not too annoying and you can always get a room facing the garden if that really bothers you. The rooms are a little tired but as I say it's £50 a night!

Mrs B booked this hotel because of the proximity to the Leas Cliff Hall. Happily managed to bag a parking space opposite, which via the hotel, is £3.00 for 24 hours. Receptionist on arrival was polite and helpful, but we were a little early and the room wasn't quite ready. At this point Mrs B asked if we would need to book a table for dinner (it has a Marco Pierre White Chop House), to be told no. Went for a walk, returning at check in time. The room on the fourth floor was OK, a bit tired, but clean enough. I believe you get what you pay for. So far so average. We went down to eat at 5.00 pm. Took a seat in the bar and decided on a bar meal. I ordered this at 5.18 pm by the QR code on the table. I checked with a staff lady that the order had gone through, and after a moment she gave a thumbs up. The meal was a meat sharing platter at £24.95. A simple dish. After 30 minutes waiting I enquired with the bar staff about the ETA for the food. He went to the kitchen. He returned 5 minutes later and told me that it was being cooked. I asked if the kitchen had just started to cook it, and he shrugged and repeated it was being cooked. I wandered to the MPW restaurant, and there were no diners. I spoke to the lady who had given me the thumbs up, and she said our meal was coming. Ten minutes passed and I looked at the ‘track my order' on their food app, to find that the kitchen was not taking orders. I went along to the MPW restaurant again and this time a staff member in a hoodie told me that the kitchen was catering for a function and was running slow. One hour after ordering, the meal arrived, delivered by a waitress who didn't want to be there. No condiments, had to ask for cutlery and napkin. We were hangry so ate a very average sharing platter. Not worth £24.95. No apologies, no prior warning that kitchen was slow. Had I known that the kitchen was catering for a party and not interested in other diners, I'd have gone elsewhere. Had I not paid in advance I'd have left. Bed in room was average at best. At least there was tea and coffee. Water pressure in bathroom was awful. Glad I didn't pay for breakfast. Mentioned awful dinner service to reception on check out, but gentleman there paid no interest, going back to his computer once he'd ascertained our room number. To sum up, I've paid more to stay in worse, and paid a lot less for better food and service. We will probably use this hotel again, but not the restaurant or bar. Wonder if Marco knows how the kitchen bearing his name runs?

This is a very good hotel to stay with, reasonably priced especially hotel prices have sky rocketed post Covid restrictions. The rooms were clean and spacious enough. Free WIFI. Great breakfast and amazing staff. Shout out to the lovely ladies who looks after the breakfast. Nice reception, swift check in. Overall a deserving 4/5 ratings. The best so far out of the hotels we have stayed in since post Covid restrictions. The only improvements we can recommend are: 1. Improved running water, very slow, we have not had a proper shower. 2. Stains on the tea cup, we have not had a go due to cups being not properly washed. Thank you.

Our room was at the front of the hotel. The bed was huge and very comfortable. We could see France from our window which was special. It was clean and the towels fluffy which I like. Parking outside is available to be paid for by the hotel at a much cheaper price than actually buying through the ticket machine. My only downside was that by the time we got downstairs for our breakfast at 9.30, the cooked fry up was a little dry and it was all a little too salty. I don't personally cook with salt due to a heart condition so I could taste it all the more. Other than that, a lovely stay.

Old fashioned hotel with character, parking can be an issue. £3 a night through the hotel for parking directly outside otherwise you have to pay and display to park in the side streets. Location is a short walk into town or down to the harbour area, good views from bedrooms depending on your room. Breakfast buffet was lukewarm most days, and the water pressure in the shower was poor like holding a watering can over your head. Room carpet could do with a clean as looked like toothpaste on it and several small beads on the floor as if a kids bracelet had broken.

Amazing location, room , staff and breakfast . Stopped overnight after an hockey match at Folkstone optimists followed by a great walk along the leas coast path /promenade. Brilliant vegan breakfast and attention to details , see photos.

Downstairs everything looks lovely but it definitely goes downhill when you get to the room. My husband dropped bags off in the afternoon and we went straight out for dinner and show. Returned to room about 11pm. Mattress needs replacing, the bed creaks on every turn so you can't get a good sleep. Bathroom extremely dated, coloured suite, unable to have bath or shower as water trickles out of taps. Fan and flush extremely noisy. Overall extremely disappointed

Visited this hotel on a deal for BB and evening meal the accommodation was good and the evening meal was super, however , the breakfast which was a buffet let down the whole experience. A little more thought and greasy food would have been appreciated

The Hotel was very nice,service very good and Clean. Room we had was "on the Wonk" with very uneven floor on "Slopes". Laying in bed was head was below the level of my feet so I actually slept the opposite way and walking around the room was disorientating.

We booked this hotel pre COVID as part of our visit to the theatre. They were very understanding and helpful when our theatre visit was rescheduled twice. Staff responded quickly to any query and were very welcoming when we arrived. The hotel is in a great location, the room was a bit dated but it was very clean and understand they are going to be updated. Will definitely come back.

Lovely sea view room although it was a bit dated. Disappointed with the noisy restaurant for dinner. We were very near a noisy table and the general noise in the restaurant meant that dinner was not a relaxing experience. In hindsight we should have asked to be moved but the restauarant, being a Saturday was very busy. Food and pricing was good though.

Previous guest's towels left hanging behind bathroom door. Reported to reception. Towels still there when we left. Whole hotel has a tired run-down look. Winding narrow corridors that are tricky to navigate with a trolley case. Tiny one-person lift. Bar food reasonably priced.

We stayed for a weekend at the end of September. A lot has been done to energise and clean up Folmstone, so the stay was great. Hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The big let down were the bar staff. I went down to order food from the bar, as no room service st night... and it was awful. wasnting gourmet, bu overt 20 odd quid for a plate of microwaved doritos with a bit of grated chese on top.and a piece of fish thrown between two slices of bread and calling it a sandwich was ridiculous. But it got worse. I ordered Bailys and when I got back to my room with my drink, I had found the bailys had curdled, it was clearly off. I took it down to show the barman, who point blank refused to acknowledge the drink was off. They eventually gave me an alternative drink, but astonishingly kept the bottle of bailys on the bar, insisting I was in the wrong. The bar staff rely let the place down.

Close to all bars and town centre perhaos breakfast could be better friendly helpful staff nothing is a problem have been a few times and will defo return great views and gardens lots to see can be a bit busy at times but nice lounge to sit in

The staff are friendly and amazing, the guest rooms need updating, old fashioned and floors creaked when you walked across them and you could hear people in other rooms walking across their rooms. Bathroom was very old and needed a complete refit. Tea and coffee provided in the room, but no mineral water.

I really enjoyed our stay. The Manager took the trouble to find a deal that suited me when I rang to book. It was for a birthday and the option of a meal at the Marco Pierre White restaurant included with the bed and breakfast was just the thing I was looking for. The meal was lovely, all very tasty and the menu was a bit more creative than you usually find. The location of the hotel is fantastic and it was great to have a sea view.

Stay regularly to visit friends in Folkestone.. marvelous location very comfortable hotel extremely friendly staff always enjoy my stay here..full english breakfast super but bad for diet will be back ..

Just returned from a four night break at the Clifton and enjoyed every minute. I stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was really good with lots of choice and coffee top ups. The rooms are dated but spotless and I believe that by next year they will have been refurbished,so it will be nice to visit again. The staff are all excellent especially the breakfast staff and the bar/restaurant staff. Thank you for a lovely stay.

8 of us stayed here in August 2021, the hotel location is good but parking is busy as the spaces are limited. Our room was ok but needs updating, the lift only takes 1 person but the staff were excellent. Breakfast was good with lots to choose from and the bar was perfect for us, we didn't eat in Marco Pierre restaurant but guests told me it was good, lots of bars nearby.

I would not stay here again - loads of issues for the money - only get away with charging as much as they do because of the location and Marco Pierre White restaurant. Didn't stay for breakfast as far too expensive!

The decor in the room especially the bathroom need majorly upgrading. The shower was hopeless and the bathroom was not in the best condition and need modernising. Was very disappointed with the actual room for the money we paid. However the staff we spoke to were excellent and very helpful.

Parking is tricky, it is £3 a day via the hotel to park opposite on the street but there are very few free spaces. We ended up parking a few streets away which could be a problem if you have mobility issues. Parking away from the seafront is free at least. The room was comfortable but tatty. Definitely in need or a refit. The bed was very comfortable & the room very clean so I wouldn't complain. A determined seagull's attempts to bunk down with us prevented us leaving the windows too open so the room got rather warm. The bathroom was basic with tatty fittings. We left our request card out for the room to be made up each day & it was done to perfection. We left a tip but it was politely left on the side. Shame because we wanted to reward a great job done. Breakfast was nice. The staff very polite. It's a nice room to eat in. It was very warm in there. It has air con but that was off each morning we ate there. It was rather a sweat box on Saturday morning when full of guests. Don't wear a jumper, you will pass out! The lift is tiny & used by guests & staff alike. It only has room for one person at a time. If you have mobility difficulties then this could be a problem.

First impression of the hotel was excellent. You can register your car for £3 pd if you park opposite. Staff were really helpful. Breakfast and dinner were really good. Nice bar area and restaurant with friendly staff. Decor was excellent after refurb. Loved the Costa coffee bar. Great location for the beach and walk into town. So far so good until we saw the room. We were on the 4th floor (attic rooms) accessed by a v small lift (limited to one person at a time). These clearly have not been included in the refurb. The room is very dated (70s) and had a lot of problems. Being on the top floor it gets v hot (poor floor insulation?) with no aircon but there was a noisy floor fan. The bed was fine. The bathroom was in a delapitated condition. The shower didn't work. The hot tap in the sink wouldn't move either so no hot water at all. The toilet didn't flush so had to lift the cover and fix. We did report these faults when we left (we were only there one night) but despite being told the manager would contact us we never heard from the hotel. Likely this hotel would have got 5 stars if we had been put in a refurbed room?

The hotel room I had was a seafront double, it's decor is quite dated but comfy. The view is magnificent and the facilities of hotel exceeded my expectations, the Marco Pierre restaurant is fantastic. I do have to say I did not enjoy the beetroot and hen egg starter, however the steak and summer pudding was divine. I would choose a different starter next time but this is minor issue. The scones are huge and totally gorgeous tasting, I regret not having afternoon tea but the scones were reasonable at £5:00 for two served with clotted cream and jam from Costa at front house. I cannot express how lovely this hotel, staff and overall food is. The bubble dining domes I want to try when I return. For me it represents a great location, a great value hotel and all this without compromising the high standard the hotel clearly delivers. I would definitely stay again and intend to before the year end.

This is the second time we've stayed here; great location right on the Leas. We didn't upgrade our room so had a side sea view, the room was clean but tired, bed linen was good quality, a couple of our towels were thin. This didn't have any impact on our stay; the staff in the hotel are all very helpful and the bar and Marcos restaurant gave great service. We opted for online checkin which was quick and we managed to park opposite the hotel for £3 for 24 hours. We'll definitely be back.

We stayed 1 night, check-in on line was convenient and easy., The staff were very good. and attentive in both the hotel and the restaurant .Overall the hotel was clean and tidy, however, the room we were in needs more TLC. but bear in mind this is a period building. The hotel bar is cosy, relaxing and in keeping with the building. The hotel is in a prime location in the west end of Folkestone close to the beaches and town centre. The hotel has a Marco Pierre White restaurant serving a set menu and an al a carte choice also with a good selection of wine. The restaurant is also where you are served a plentiful buffet breakfast both hot and cold. We have stayed here many times and have always enjoyed our stay.

We stayed 1 night, the check-in was easy, parking opposite the hotel £3 a day. The staff were very good. Hotel was clean, however needs more TLC. The shower in some of the rooms are terrible, hardly any pressure and getting the temperature right is virtually impossible. Repairs carried out in some of the rooms on doors, on walls are very tacky and looks like it's been done by amateurs. The hotel is in desperate need of some new furniture and decore. Despite all this we loved the location, being so close to the beaches and town centre. The staff were very helpful and the service was very good. The breakfast items were plentiful and we really enjoyed the the relaxed atmosphere.

Old tired hotel. The floor in our room creaked loudly when any movement was made on it. The room was nearly twice the price of a Premier Inn which is normally far, far superior. Room was scruffy at best.

We had very good 3 Nights with a very organised and interesting meal of Breakfast to Dinner, very good view to the sea and Staff at the hotel are very professional, the rooms are clean, good bed and our kids where able to sleep comfortably as well, while the Bath was good with good flowing of water. I recommend this Hotel.

Check in was very smooth and welcoming. Very nice comfortable room and Maj's great welcome in the restaurant made a delicious breakfast even more enjoyable! Evening meal was superb too. Everyone made us feel welcome - thank you all.

Visited for a 3 night stay last at the end of July. Check in very east completed the one line form before we arrived and took less than 2 minutes to get our card. Reception area and downstairs all done to a good standard. Room was very clean with a iron,ironing board, hair dryer and kettle. Yes the rooms are dated but they are hoping to start doing them up soon. But they was very clean. Bar staff are amazing the young guy behind the bar on all our nights there was exceptional. He membered what drinks we was having he was a very happy person who would always talk to us. Very nice cocktails. Breakfast again was exceptional. Being took to the table and immediately being offered tea or coffee. Plenty to chose from and there was always plenty even at 9.15 there was plenty left. Its one of the best hotel breakfast we have ever had! Could just do with a variety off eggs as I'm not a massive fan of scambled eggs. We had a meal 1 night in the Marrco resaurant and once again that was really good. Fillet steak was very nice and they even swapped the chips to a side salad for me. We went out for a meal to Bouverie tap which I will leave a separate review for. Overall we was very happy with our stay here and after staying in many other Folkestone hotels for short breaks we enjoyed this 1 the most down to all the welcoming staff. Looking to come back again in the next few weeks and we are very much looking forward to seeing the friendly staff again soon.

This is our regular hotel we stay in Folkestone we love it, we have stayed in nice rooms over the last few years and have had excellent customer service from the reception team especially Phillipa and Alex and team. Meals and breakfast have been enjoyable and service in the restaurant is excellent from all of the team especially Cathy, Logesh and restaurant manger and staff team. Thank you for making us welcome and we always have an enjoyable stay.

The whole hotel's team is very friendly,helpful and positive, we have the nicest emotions ( 2 kids and I) with the hotel. Very attentive to babies and small kids during breakfast and other time. Rooms need a bit of refreshment and we struggled with the lift but cleaning lady was keeping room clean and tidy. Location is very nice as it gets you to the famous playground and of coz its very beautiful.

This is the second time that we have stayed here with our young boys and we have been extremely pleased with the hotel and staff. There is one niggle which did somewhat tarnish the trip. The room was spacious and well kitted out, being kept very clean. We were fortunate to have breakfast which had something for everyone and the staff were very helpful. Our only issue was the heat of the room. We were in the far end of the building on the third floor and being 18C outside we were surprised that we were left sweating and gasping for air - my husband having to leave the room to cool down, whilst stripping the boys down. A fan made little difference and the source of the heat was the towel rail in the bathroom that scolded me at 3am! I did speak to staff at reception but they said there was nothing they could do. It means for us we are unlikely to make a repeat visit, which is a real shame as we love the hotel, location and staff. Being unable to sleep due to the heat (in the absence of a heat wave) is a bit too much to bear.

The location is great. Reception, shared hotel areas were really nice. Staff super efficient , welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was great. We had room 119 which has a lovely view and being over the front of the property had a great atmosphere when you open the window as you can hear the gentle music playing outside and people talking - great vibes. The room was a generous size and 2 fans. It's in need of an update decor and carpet wise and a bigger tv and sockets by the bed wouldn't hurt but overall a lovely stay. So glad we chose this place!

Lovely hotel. Had a fabulous room with a sea view. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was great both breakfast and dinner. Close to everything. Check in and out was easy. Would recommend to everyone.

I was leading a Battle of Britain tour for ‘The Cultural Experience' and stayed here for two nights. The hotel itself is a little above the average tired old Victorian seafront premises - but e end as a best-selling author I find it difficult to articulate just how bad the bar and waiting staff are. Beyond dreadful. Orders that just evaporated into thin air and unfulfilled, customers left standing at the bar and wondering whether they were even actually going to get served , given no eye contact or communication from bar staff, and the wrong drinks delivered on the odd occasion drunks arrived at all! Staff more interested in chatting between themselves than engaging with customers. Absolutely and utterly useless, and the worst customer service I've experienced as a global traveller. The band ‘Orange Juice' did a great hit in the 80s called ‘Rip it up and start again' - in this case ‘Sack the lot and start again!' Just terrible.

My wife and I had a short break at this hotel last week and greatly enjoyed our stay. Great location, really friendly staff and some lovely culinary options within the hotel (highly recommend the Marco Pierre White restaurant). The beds are very comfortable and the room we stayed in very spacious. If I was being hyper critical maybe some of the decor is a bit tatty and dated and there was no air con that we could see ( we were fortunate enough to visit during very warm weather!) You can park your car for £3 a day opposite the hotel and we managed to secure a spot directly opposite. However our stay was greatly marred by a delivery driver from one of the hotel's contractors, Faversham Laundry Services, who was parked illegally making it extremely difficult to move our car when we were leaving with the driver becoming verbally abusive and aggressive, even though he was illegally parked. He reduced my wife to tears with his behaviour. We have complained to the hotel and sub contractors but have heard nothing from either. What a shame as an otherwise lovely stay. If you do decide to stay at this pleasant hotel be careful about parking in the allocated spaces as you may get blocked in for a significant time owing to the illegal and considerate parking of their contractors!

We didn't stay or eat at the hotel so can't comment on that. However, we did stop for cocktails at the bar on Thursday and Friday night which were amazing! We were served by Abhi who was so friendly and professional - his cocktails were of a very high standard and you could tell he put effort into making them lovely. We would certainly stop for a drink if come to Folkestone again!

Very pleasant stay rooms comfortable could do with some modernisation but didn't detract from my experience. Staff very friendly nothing too much trouble well organised Location wise perfect for the seafront which is accessed with zig zag steps

An enjoyable stay. Good food, friendly staff and a very comfortable room? A lovely position near the sea. The hotel does need some refurbishment. We were amazed at what a lovely and interesting town Folkestone was. We are looking forward to a return visit.

This is the second time I've stayed and it is always a lovely experience. I didn't realise there was a buffet at breakfast because last time in lockdown, there wasn't and I felt this could have been explained to me. I was waiting ages! Nothing is any trouble here and it operates like clockwork. Lovely big Edwardian rooms and quiet rooms and corridors. Excellent!

Our previous visit to the Clifton was going to be our last but then we decided to give it another go for my hubbys78th birthday and I am glad we did. They are obviously still struggling to find Staff but the waiting time for Service was minimal We both started with the delicious onion soup, then hubby had Chicken Forestiere which he said was delicious - particularly the sauce. I had the Steak and Ale Pie. Whilst (as a Yorkshire woman) I still can't understand how you can serve pie and peas and call it a Main Course when you have to order some form of potato to compete the meal, I cannot deny that the meat was very tasty. We didn't order a dessert but they surprised us by bringing the birthday boy a beautifully decorated dessert. Happy Birthday written in dark chocolate (which unbeknown to them is his favourite) and a piece of delicious cheesecake.. It was a very pleasant evening and we can only praise everyone concerned.

Booked in for a executive sea view room. Upon arrival to the room was overwhelmed by the most disgusting stench of urine so much so had to leave the room immediately. We were given a larger room with a side sea view. The room was in desperate need of a refurb I would guess 20years ago. The beds were comfortable but the sheets only just covered the top of the bed exposing the dated mattress. Water stains on the main light shade. Some windows painted shut. The room and bathroom were intensely hot with no air conditioning and radiators full on. The shower cubicle was tiny and I'm of slim build. The noise from the bar across the road is very loud with shouting and screaming radiating through the single glazed sash windows. The communal areas downstairs are as usual very modern and stylish acting as a mask for the standards of the sleeping quarters. The restaurant lacked any atmosphere and the food was standard. Unsurprisingly we were not asked how our stay was upon check out. We won't be returning.

Hotel in great position on seafront. Shared parts - reception, restaurant well maintained. Room very clean but decor slightly old and tired. Stayed in family room which was perfect for us travelling with 7 year old grandson as he had separate room within in our suite type room. Plenty of space for him to play Lego as well.

First impression, reception, bar etc very nice. Room and bathroom are tired and need updating and some TLC but bed linen and towels were very clean and white. Breakfast was good a nice selection and well presented. Staff all very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel but don't expect 4/5* rooms

Wonderful stay at the Clifton Hotel, we had a good family room overlooking gardens and could see the sea. The room was very clean with very good facilities. The restaurant is excellent, we had dinner and breakfast which was delicious, a real treat. Thank you - would highly recommend

A lovely hotel and a very good and enjoyable stay. Staff were very friendly and professional, lovely views of the sea and rear garden areas. Very good breakfast along with very good dining in comfortable surrounding. With a good lounge bar made our stay very enjoyable.

Staff were very friendly. The breakfast was nice as well as the restaurant food. Our room had been smoked in and had cigarette ash, smelt, bed was hard we did get a new room. Waited two hours for a tuna sandwich

We live in Australia and our Government wont let us travel from here at all until at least the end of 2021. We have advised the hotel we are unable to travel and they refuse to cancel or refund our bookings and we have a group booking that will cost us a huge amount of money.

My friend and I visited The Clifton Hotel Folkestone for a coffee and snack, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find they served a range of gluten free items. Always have difficulty getting gluten free and usually there isn't a choice. Sandwichs were lovely and fresh and the service was exceptional. Will definitely go there again because I felt as if asking for gluten free was not a problem.

My Husband & I called in here & had a delightful couple of hours. It was a very bright & sunny April day. We were shown through to the terrace due to the Covid restrictions. We ordered the value meal of Fish & Chips with a soft drink. It was Fantastic. I would normally remove the batter from fish, but this batter was glorious. Crisp & light, non greasy We will be back we told the waiter & restaurant manager. Which we have. Trying Mr Lambs Cottage pie. We have since booked a return visit for Sunday lunch of the bank holiday weekend. We are realty looking forward to it.

Forgot to get the meat out of the freezer at home so ended up ordering a roast at the Clifton, first time having a takeaway roast but definitely won't be the last! Really good portion sizes & the meat was lovely tender! My partner & I had the roast beef & my little one had the roast pork, our meal was absolutely delicious we will definitely be ordering from here again!

This is the second time that I have stayed in the hotel for three nights which is in a fantastic, quiet location. From the outset, the manager, Neil, did all he could to ensure that I was looked after and made to feel comfortable and welcome. He even remembered my name when I rebooked. This excellent customer service extended to the way I was treated by the receptionists Logesh and Zaida who were exceptionally friendly and kind. I drink a lot of tea, and they were more than happy to provide extra tea, coffee, milk and sugar. The room I had had a sea view and huge bay windows so that, on a sunny day, I could watch passersby walking along The Leas and admire the ever-changing seascape. The bathroom was clean and the water piping hot. There are enough plug sockets to charge devices, desks so that I could work on my laptop, a wall-mounted TV and a clean comfortable bed. Take away services are available locally and were delivered to the hotel. There is also the option for a takeaway breakfast and roast available at the hotel which I have yet to sample.

Decided to have a takeaway Sunday roast. Great value with a 10% discount as we collected it. The meal was huge with fresh steaming gravy. Great selection of fresh veg, loads of potatoes. Really enjoyed it. Will do it again soon.

As every meal we had booked was canceled due to Covid we decided (for the first time ever) to try a Take Away. We have always had a good indoor dining experience at this Hotel so this was our first choice. We placed our order 24 hours prior to delivery as requested. We received a phone call to confirm the delivery would be coming but unfortunately it was a little late as the driver couldn't find us - but even he phoned us for clarification. The meal was well above our expectation. My hubby had the prawn & salmon starter which he said was superb (he offered me one of the huge prawns but I stupidly declined as I didn't want to deprive him). Then we opened our Mains and were flabbergasted. It was huge and contained more than we would normally consume in two days. He had slices and slices of beef and I had the same, but Turkey. Each container had 5 huge roast potatoes, 2 stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, parsnip, carrots, aubergene and peas. Both had a separate pot of gravy and he also got a pot of mustard and one of horseradish. As I didn't have a Starter I chose Christmas pudding. It was actually 2 small puds with custard. Oh, I almost forgot, we even got 2 Christmas crackers. The whole thing was positively superb and we wil TVl definitely be ordering again.

Having finally escaped the COVID Colditz, aka the grand burstin hotel, at the bottom of the hill I walked upwards in search of a proper place to stay and found the Clifton Hotel. We checked in for two nights and stayed for a week. Great food and, on a clear day, views of France. Well located for the better,upper, part of the town. Nice friendly staff especially Zsofia who kept me topped up with Beer and my partner and daughter with food. Great for a short UK Town type break.

Checked in here at the last minute after a disastrous booking at another nearby hotel, that was so grotty we decided not to stay and moved to this hotel, which was so much better and the same price! Very comfortable room with a seaview. We had already booked elsewhere to eat, but the restaurant and bar area looked very nice.

The hotel location is good, near the town and on the Cliff Top. We had no trouble parking outside (£3 permit for a day) The staff were very friendly and it was a clean hotel. The room though was supposed to be a higher grade room(executive), but it was quite small, with uneven floors, with a few lumps in the bed and the bathroom was very old fashioned, with bath and bath tap mixer for the shower and a bathroom mirror light that didn't work (the extractor fan didn't seem to do much for the condensation either). The decor in our room looked very tired. They had a lift to get to your room, but you could only get one person in it! Breakfast was ok but the full English wasn't very "full". A bit on the stingy side portion wise. We were a little unlucky with the weather being so awful, wind and rain all night, which seemed to make quite a racket in our room. We enjoyed our stay overall, but if you want higher grade accommodation for your £100+ plus a night, then you will probably need to look elsewhere.

We stayed for two nights, and had a room on the 3rd floor. We were given a friendly welcome and all covid-19 precautions were in place, such as hand sanitisers, one way systems where possible an screens. The Hotel layout makes it a bit of a warren, with various stairs and corridors, that don't actually get you to where you want to go, so follow the initial directions to your room. There are lifts but the one serving our part of the hotel was very small. There was a sign saying one person at a time, although 2 would fit so I don't know if this was a Covid precaution. The room itself was large, clean and comfortable. In addition to the usual tea and coffee facilities there was also an ironing board and iron, a fan and a hair dryer. There are no dedicated parking facilities for this hotel, parking is on street and you need to buy a permit at reception. As you would expect there is a restaurant onsite and also a bar, both seem part and parcel of the hotel but are also franchises so the restaurant is a Marco Pierre White Steak Grill, and the Bar is called Ocean Bleu. Food and drink is of excellent quality and varied from reasonably priced upwards. The Hotel is located just on the edge of the main commercial are of Folkestone. It is about a ten minute walk to the town centre. The Leas Cliff Hall is just opposite and you can walk down a zig zag pathway to the Leas Cliff park and seafront.

We spent one night at this hotel and all i can say is that it was fantastic the room was very clean and the staff very helpful especially one man by the name of Nick, when we arrived he looked after us when we had a cream tea and then again when we had our dinner. We can not fault the hotel and we will defiantly be going there again. The food was amazing i have never had anything like it the cream tea dinner and breakfast. Once again GREAT HOTEL BRILLAMNT STAFF AND FANTASTIC FOOD

Great service, even in this difficult time. Room was clean, and I couldn't fault the friendly staff. Would happily stay at this hotel again. Wifi worked great with out having to pay extra like other hotels.

This hotel is lovely and clean. Highly recommend this hotel. Staff very courteous and friendly. Food amazing and service very good. Situated on the front - sea view. About 10 minutes away from the Harbour and 5 from the town. Definitely visit again in the near future. A must to visit. Thank you kindly to all the staff.

Generally clean and spacious room and the overall hotel experience was good. Minor niggles (room 349): 1/ Step down into bathroom, and a further step down into the bath. Having not noticed the signage I nearly launched myself head first into the bath, would suggest that this step is advised at key collection as its easy to miss the sign. 2/ Room was too hot and could only turn radiator down to No 2, however as I could open window this was not too big an issue (is quiet in the vicinity of this room). Overall when I come back to Folkestone I will look to re-book at this hotel. The staff were always helpful and a credit to the hotel.

The Clifton is an older hotel in a nice position. The room was large with a big double bed. Furniture and TV acceptable but renovations will be needed within a few years. All the staff were very nice and there is a lovely bar and very nice restaurant (Marco's). We were in room 115 which was on the first floor with a sea view, the one flight of stairs was easier then the small lift. The hotels Covid protection and awareness was very good.

Stayed here for two nights the location is excellent and the view from our room was lovely. The room was huge and clean and comfortable. A huge thank you to Philippa for being exceptionally helpful, friendly efficient and welcoming. Thank you so much for all your help and being so kind to us throughout our stay.

The hotel is right next to the beach and the area around it is lovely. There are a few restaurants and bars nearby and the town centre is only about 10 minutes walk away. The room we had was spacious and immaculately clean (it was an executive double), as was all the hotel. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits were supplied. We had a meal in the Marco Pierre White restaurant which is part of the hotel. Lovely food and very reasonable. There were only a few minor bug bears - the room was hot and we could get the window open, the pillows were very hard And the shower cubicle was cosy! Minor things really. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

The public areas of this hotel have had a lovely makeover, but the standard double room we were given was way up in the roof on the 4th Floor via a 1 person only lift and the narrowest of corridors. The room was tiny with dated furniture and a miniature bathroom. The bed was nice and firm but so were the pillows, weirdly!! Breakfast was good in the Marco Pierre White restaurant!!

Just back from a lovely stay at this hotel in Folkestone. The bedroom was outdated but very clean and didn't detract from our stay. The main areas of the hotel - bar restaurant and reception have all had a makeover and it looks great. Breakfast on both mornings was delicious with great service. We also ate at the Marco Pierre White restaurant and the food and service was again really good! Afternoon tea on our last day was tasty and we even brought some scones home with us!

Great location overlooking the English Channel on the Leas. We enjoy staying at this hotel in the summer and winter. Really friendly and efficient staff. Food is delicious. I would just like another vegetarian option as there is only one in the main restaurant. The downstairs rooms are lovely but the bedrooms are very dated. They are clean and comfortable so that is the main thing. Felt save during Covi-19 staying at this hotel.

Had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel. It was spotlessly clean and the staff were helpful and polite. It has everything you need in the hotel with a lovely bar, a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and a Costa Coffee. The room was spacious and the bed huge and comfortable. Even during the Covid pandemic I would thoroughly recommend it.

The hotel is a large Victorian seaside hotel which has been tastefully modernised. Lots of original features. The staff were very helpful and welcoming, the breakfast was great, our only regret is we didn't get to eat at the Pierre White restaurant onsite

Had a lovely night here during the difficult covid 10.00pm lock down. The hotel was spotless the staff sanitized very well after each customer in the bar and restaurant areas. I felt safe staying here. Loved the cocktails , the Clover club a new favourite of mine Breakfast highly recommended , Really tasty quality produce in the cooked breakfast I would definitely stay here again Our bathroom was spotless but a little dated

The hotel has an excellent location and clean, comfortable beds. Unfortunately this is where the positive ends. The rooms are clean, but are in desperately need of upgrading. The toilet we had was fit for a very slim person or a child. If you are a bigger adult you won't be comfortable at all on it, squuezed between a wall and the bath tub. Don't upgrade as the room we got looked nothing like the pictures, with beds smaller than a normal room. (they were advertised queen size!!) We requested a refund. If you have mobility issues, be advised only one person can fit in the elevator and the stairs are narrow. While we stayed, lots of times the elevator was used by cleaning staff so we had to go up and down the stairs. In one of our rooms, once you turn on the bath ventilator, it would make sounds like a trapped seagull. Scared and amused all of us. The staff is mostly friendly, but not all of them. The breakfast was ok, but the portion size let is down. Hope they will improve their rooms as the hotels looks impressive from the outside.

My partner and I came for a two night stay at the Clifton hotel . The sea view was beautiful and the rooms a nice size. What really made the experience was the main guy on the breakfast service . He had said he had been there 19 years and still had the passion for servicing our every need. He was kind and funny and I looked forward to seeing him in the morning. He praised his staff working with him but I think all the praise should go to him . For me it's always and will always be “the little guys” that make the company, how lucky that The Clifton hotel has his. Heather

Lovely, comfortable hotel, great value for money and most importantly super friendly staff who do a fantastic job who were very accommodating were our dietary requirements. We will be returning in the future

Thanks to all the staff at the Best Western Clifton Hotel who made our family stay for our parents 70th Wedding anniversary a special occasion. Phillipa the receptionist always provides a welcoming experience. The Saturday night reception staff went beyond the call of duty in contacting me and providing assistance to my Dad who was found wandering in the main reception area at 1.30am due to dementia. Legosh and Cathy provided polite, friendly and efficient service for our group in the restaurant. Sophia in the bar is always happy to assist in providing refreshments. We love this hotel and in particular the individuality of the rooms which is often sadly missing in other hotels. Congratulations to all the staff for being outstanding ambassadors for the hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part 2 of a 3 part 'road trip' along the Kent coastline, having stayed here before and knowing it is excellent. The hotel did not disappoint, even during this Covid 19 period. Cleanliness was top of the list, with the staff all wearing face masks at all times, and we felt completely safe here. House keeping was suspended but towels, ta, milk, etc were available from reception if you asked. Our room was lovely, with a large bathroom with separate shower, and a sea view. As we stayed Saturday and Sunday evenings we booked in the Marco Pierre White restaurant for evening meal on the Saturday and Sunday lunch. Our Sunday lunch was excellent, and well worth the money, and the waiters were very polite and obliging, and of course, wore masks. However, we did find the Saturday evening menu sadly lacking and very expensive for what it was. We didn't want steaks, so instead opted for the Shepherds Pie for my partner, and I had a burger. We both said that we had eaten better meals for a lot less and we didn't enjoy our meal. So we wouldn't book for an evening meal again here but would definitely have another Sunday lunch! Breakfast were amazing, and we had exactly what we wanted, included in our tariff. All the staff were excellent. So to sum up, all was excellent (except evening meal), staff were brilliant and eager to please, which they did. We will definitely stay here again and look forward to doing so soon.

We recently stayed in this lovely hotel and we were not disappointed!! It was really comfortable and the staff were all very friendly. Breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed a drink in the hotels bar every evening We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay and will return in the near future. It was excellent value for money with very special sea views!

good things about this hotel. staff friendly, set meals varied and good helpings, hot plates very willing servers,. lovely position, nice view from bedroom, BUT we were on the 3rd floor and the lift only takes 1+ luggage 2 without and is very small and slow and felt unsafe, so walked down, but due to our age, had to use lift going up., Bedroom windows we stuffed carboard in to stop the rattling, would be very drafty in cold weather. Got very busy and non social distancing in restaurant Our group were short distance from main restaurant, and tables were spread out. staff wore masks, but had to search for hand sanitiser in dining area .

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel for three nights. The hotel is in an area called The Leas. It is right on the seafront high up just above the beach. Our room had a view of the park to the side of the hotel. It was lovely and quiet with a great view of the sun in the early evening. We sat and watch the sun in our room while having a glass of wine before going out for the evening. Our room recently decorated in a tasteful style. Our bed was very big and the bedding was soft. We slept very well. There is parking for the hotel right outside. We found we could easily walk to all the shops, restaurants and bars etc. We did not eat in the hotel because we like to eat out. The staff seemed very professional and friendly. There is a Tesco Express around the corner.

Requested seaview and that exactly what we got! You could see France! Best seaview from a hotel we have ever stayed in. To be honest wasnt expecting such high standards from a 3 star hotel for the price we paid. The only downside is probably the parking as their token machine wasnt working on the date we arrived but we found free parking on the main road. We arrived in our room to see a lovely birthday message in chocolate with cheesecake and fresh berries! Gorgeous. We asked for room service for breakfast the following day and the items were of good quality and tasty. Enjoyed my birthday in sunny Folkestone in the Best Western Clifton...we will return.

We stayed here for night in a family room. The room was adequate and clean the only problem was the lack of ventilation and despite the windows being open, it was very stuffy. We had an evening meal with other family members that eve. We ate from the set menu, choosing steak. It was a Marco pierre white steakhouse so thought that would be a good choice. Sadly for both of us the steak was tough and very small. The chips were nice though so that was a plus. Breakfast was pleasant. It's a nice location but the hotel needs some updating.

We had a lovely lunch today, delicious food and our waitress Cathy was very attentive and efficient. The dining room was large and comfortable and we felt safe. Views from the hotel are stunning, we enjoyed a walk down the zig zag path.

Stayed one night, for our anniversary the hotel had scattered rose peters on the bed and had champagne on ice with flowers had such a lovely stay here would recommend this hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful.

We had planned to stay here at the beginning of lockdown, amending our booking was hassle free. The hotel is ideally situated for the town and all other amenities. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Food from breakfast to Sunday lunch is first class. Overall hotel is excellent value for money. And we will definitely be back next year.

First hotel stay following Covid so was feeling a little apprehensive. Firstly, there are social distancing signs everywhere so easy to follow and staff had on PPE. Breakfast is now table service instead of buffet which I preferred. My boyfriend thought this may be an issue as he often likes to have a few helpings, but the staff are really accomodating and you can ask for more when ordering. Food was very tasty and fresh. Decor is lovely, some parts of the hotel are a little tired but everywhere was very clean. Room and bathroom were a little small for a superior double, but the price was fantastic so cant really complain and we didnt spend much time there. No hairdryer in the room and toiletries would not be enough for x2 people to stay a couple of days (very small shower gel and no conditioner) but we bought our own with us so not a problem. The hotel is around a 5 min walk (if that) from Folkestone town centre, and maybe around a 10 min walk to the harbour. Its also right on the leas coastal park so great spot for a lovely walk/run. Parking can be a little tricky, there is a car park right outside the hotel but this was full the entire time we stayed. Parking around local streets is also permit only, however we found a spot around a 5 min walk away and as everything is so close we didnt need to use/walk to the car until we left. All in all would definitely stay here again.

Great location, excellent staff, nice breakfasts, very bright, clean and modern downstairs decor. Very comfortable, pleasant ambience. Guest bedrooms: Our room had a view of the sea from one of the windows, which was v nice. High ceilings. Good layout and thoughtful storage. Clean, well designed, attractive lounge chairs in room. However, apart from the handsome lounge chairs, the room was a bit tired. Reception very kindly let us look at other rooms though and we subsequently decided that we had the best on offer, so stayed put. Windows need a clean.

This a good hotel, but it was let down by a lack of chambermaids. The bedrooms did not get checked for clean towels or filling up the coffee or sugar. Also the bedding was not changed or made during our stay. This lack of staff could have been down to re-opening after the COVID crisis. If this was the case then fair enough, but if you are going to be open you should have enough staff to run the hotel properly.Also one of the bedrooms has a radiator in the bathroom that can not be turned off and is on full heat all the time.We complained and had no problem being moved. Which was excellent sevice.

Old hotel with very high ceilings and plenty of character. Had a bay window, large bedroom with sea view and superb views. Breakfast okay but waiting staff run off feet and need more staff on duty. Overall good stay.

We were there as a family for a few days and were not happy. The rooms were clean, but there was no housekeeping, not even on multiple requests. Towels and toilet paper were only available when asked. We have in 4 days, once seen that the hotel was cleaned. The hand sanitizing station, were mostly empty. What we found really sad was that the staff was in a bad mood all the time and only worked against each other. Except here of Szophia is a very polite and nice lady from the bar. For breakfast we went very reluctantly, not tasty breakfast and the staff, cheeky and rude. The hotel has a great location directly on the beach, the bar and the restaurant are well equipped, but the service, friendliness and cleanliness has to be worked on. We have never had such an experience in a Best Western Hotel. For us it is out of question.

First time we have ventured out since covid 19 has charged all our lives. Staff all masked but still attentive and pleasant. We had booked a window table and that was honoured. Excellent three course Sunday lunch and very reasonable priced. Would recommend and will go again. Only one issue for our disabled person, the slope up to the main entrance was bit steep.

Absolutely superb service, food and wine this evening! One of the best meals I've had in years! Thank you to the excellent staff and management! I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough! Outstanding!

My husband and I stayed here for one night. It was great value for money. The staff were all great and the hotel was very clean and the beds were comfy. It's a old hotel which has some intresting decor. I would recommend staying here if your having a weekend in Folkestone.

Yes, this hotel is old. We enjoyed our stay, Ondrej on reception and all the staff friendly and helpful. Room was clean, bed comfy and we only needed a place to sleep, after visiting Folkestone. Did all we asked for at an excellent price. Great location, nice restaurant and bar.

I stayed here with my two daughters for two night. I found it very clean and comfortable. All the staff were very pleasant and made our stay enjoyable. Yes, it's true that the room was not made up after the first night, but this is understandable during the Covid crisis. My daughters were in Room 106, and they said there was a loud noise from the vents before 6am, and they were disturbed by this. Apparently, the room is above the restaurant, and this was apparently the cause of the noise. I was in room 359, and was not disturbed. We ate breakfast in the restaurant, and it was very tasty. We also ate in the restaurant one evening. It is named for Marco Pierre White. We had three courses each, which were delicious, (especially as it was during the “Eat out to Help our” period. The hotel is by the sea, but is at the top of a steep cliff, so quite a walk down to the beach. I would recommend this hotel, and would like to return one day.

The hotel is rather tired, needs a lot of cleaning up and decorating.Quite like old fashioned but would like cleanliness, quite a bit of mould in the bathroom and wallpaper peeling. I understand that it is difficult during covid 19 but standards shouldn't lapse.

This lovely hotel is on the sea front, close to the town and is full of charm and character. It is well presented and very good value for money. There is a Marco Pierre White restaurant on site and an extremely pleasant bar with balcony overlooking the sea. The room was comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. I will definitely be staying there again.

We ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant on Tuesday and had a lovely three course meal,all the food was very well presented. The restaurant was very busy and the staff worked very hard to make it a pleasurable visit... so very well done ALL of you,we will be back soon

Lovely hotel. Very clean with plenty of hand sanitising stations everywhere. Very busy and could have done with some more staff at times. Breakfast was good - albeit different to what we are used to with a hotel breakfast but was fresh and served to the table. Bar area was clean and tidy and the bar food was a good price and portions sizes were very good - even the kids meals were a decent size.

Great hotel over all, staff were efficient & friendly, but our room stay needed some attention. Low water pressure with shower & difficult to get temperature comfortable. Did experience brown water coming out of the hot sink tap but this cleared after 5 min of running. Slightly broken plug socket.

The room had a sea view but the beds was not comfortable and the Tv very small. Room looking too poor for this money I paid. I had a better room for less amount of money on the sea side. But it was clean, I found a hairdryer, ironing desk, electric kettle. Staff was nice and helpful.

We were delighted with our large spacious room overlooking tranquil gardens in a beautiful clifftop location. The peace and quiet was very welcome: you know you've made the right choice when the only sound you can hear are the distant seagulls. The floor wasn't quite on an even keel, but that's not wholly unexpected in an old building! Friendly, efficient service was on offer everywhere from Reception to the Ocean Bleu Bar - even under the current restrictions - and it felt as if the staff went the extra mile. For example, when our newspaper failed to appear the first morning, it only took a call to Reception for it to be delivered to our room minutes later. A most enjoyable two-night stay by the seaside.

Liked · Wonderful view out to the sea. Comfortable bed. Large room for the price. Great location (except for parking). Comfy chair and 2 seater to enjoy the view from. Quick checking process. All staff seemed pleasant. Disliked · Whole hotel above the ground floor needs a refurbishment (looked like 1970s wallpaper / carpets). Dirty windows (outside, not in), which didn't open very far. Some of the walls in our room hadn't been cleaned in a while (and needed it - worrying in Covid times). Peeling wallpaper above the bed. Difficult to park nearby (and all paid parking - though we parked within about 300m of the hotel for free).

Stayed for 5 nights with my mum, staff were very accommodating and friendly. Hotel is situated in a beautiful location up on the Leas. Evening dinner was wonderful considering it was a reduced menu just from the bar but breakfast was fantastic, Maj and Sophia always made it a welcoming atmosphere and the service was brilliant.

Stayed 2 nights with buyagift voucher. Beautifully situated overlooking the sea and well kept gardens. Easy parking outside the hotel for £3 a day. Staff very friendly and helpful, our room was very big, and had separate bath and shower. A few minor niggles, windows wouldn't stay open and had to have a wedge of wood to just keep one a few centimetres open. Albeit there was a fan provided it just blew out warm air. Breakfast was served with a smile but not the best quality. Enjoyed our stay and pleased that Folkestone is now a very desirable place to visit, there have been massive changes since our last visit a few years ago

Room had stained & torn carpet. Human waste had been left in toilet bowl when we first checked the bathroom. Dirty windows. Musty smell in room also. Tired & tatty although I understand rooms are getting renovated but no excuse for cleanliness issues. Don't be deceived by photos of ground floor rest of the place is nowhere near as nice.

We stayed for a birthday treat for my partner and I upgraded to a seaview room. On arrival, the staff were very friendly, location good and the parking was nice and easy. The bedroom was disappointing as was very dated and the floorboards extremely squeaky (felt very sorry for the people staying below us), the plumbing sounded like it was going to explode when we used it and the windows very dirty. The room was clean but really could do with an update.. the bath, for instance, looked like it had dead flies in it but they turned out to chip on the bottom! There was also a bar opposite with an outside seating area which was extremely noisy until well past 1am. We booked into MPWSteakhouse on-site restaurant which was delicious as was the breakfast and again service very friendly.

Room 104 is directly over the Kichen and it's ventilation system is right outside of the rooms windows. When it's running it's to noisy and smelly to have the windows open. The 05.50 start up of the fans was definitely not appreciated. No warning given by reception about this. When checking in the receptionist made on off the cuff remark about our booking being made through a price reduction site rather than directly with themselves, probably why we got the room we got. Tv remote didn't work and the main light in the bathroom also didn't work. Mattresses are not very supporting. Didn't eat so can't comment on the food offering. Stay here again, it will take some convincing.

We had a lovely weekend in July and the Covid-19 safety measures were in place but didn't spoil the experience. Nice big room (235) and good English breakfast. The hotel is close the the sea and near the town.

Very good breakfast (nice thick porridge!). Bedroom comfortable and dark (as requested). It overlooked grass/trees at side of hotel. But it was a bit unusual to find room not serviced, bed not made. Reception explained that due to Covid-19 staff could not enter room until guest's final departure. Takes some of the pleasure away when you've got to make your own bed!

Had a 2 night stay here at Folkestone at this Best Western.. it was lovely all the staff were fabulous and made us feel safe in these current times... the room overlooking the sea was lovely. The place was spotless and with great on making every visitor. Feel safe. The location on the cliffs was ideal as you could easy walk to everything .. thank you

It is a really nice hotel. Exceptional staff. Beds super comfortable. Enough tea and coffee to last you for days. The only thing I didn't like was that it could have been cleaned better as I had to give the bath a good rince before it was ready to use. I'd say it was down to long break in service that the hotel had due to the pandemic. My wifi didn't work as I couldn't connect to it but not a very big issue for me. However something to maybe look at by the staff as the wifi is being advertised to be free and working in all rooms. Overall a good and pleasant stay with the sea view giving us a nice wake up in the morning.

Came to see Joe Brown at the Leas Cliff Pavilion and couldn't have picked a more convenient overnight stop-across the road. The room was a bit old fashioned but all was comfortable, including the bed. The shower worked fine and the sea view was pleasant, even though the weather wasn't! We gave the restaurant a miss but enjoyed good food and drink from the bar menu, with OK service. discount on parking charges outside was a nice touch, too.

Stayed with group of 27..wow..never had such service..dinner was nice..but bfast so fantastic..all thanks to one guy..Maj..he was host..maitre d and restaurant manager all in one ..really made our stay..greeted guests..served ..filled buffet..looked after us..and served in Costa shop whilst doing bfast..guy was Superman..watever he being paid..is not enough..also noticed he had to deal with some v unfriendly guests..which he did v professionaly..he should b running the hotel..

Used a Red Letter voucher for a 2 night stay (Saturday and Sunday) Our initial impression was very good. The lobby, reception area and bar area were beautifully decorated. Our room was clean but in desperate need of a refurbishment. The furniture was dated but adequate for our needs. Really old ceiling light shade. The oddest thing I've ever seen! The bathroom had lovely white towels and was lovely and warm. Very creaky floor though! The basin was really tiny, taps very worn and corroded with the top of one tap constantly coming off when turned on or off. The shower was ok, however on the second morning there was no hot water. We called reception who advised that it was being looked into. As we needed to get away we got ready and left. The breakfast on the first morning was very nice. It was buffet style which meant you could have as much as you wanted. However we felt £11.95 each was a bit steep. We really felt the bedrooms let the hotel down and certainly not worthy of 3stars. The staff were lovely and all very friendly. The snack bar did serve lovely food which we enjoyed. We certainly wouldn't have been very pleased if we had to pay for our stay had we not had a voucher!

Had an excellent afternoon tea in this hotel. We were able to enjoy it in very pleasant surroundings looking out over the sea. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. It was a lovely experience.

Lovely old period hotel in a fantastic location. Some may not like due to the creaky floors, the odd crack in the walls and sone tired looking features - but in my opinion adds character to the building. Loved it! Receptionist was very informative and friendly. She offered us 24 hour parking right opposite the hotel for just £3 which worked out perfectly for us. Great bar and brasserie (Cordon Bleu) - definitely recommend ordering the fish n chips A*. We had a twin front facing seaview room which had fantastic huge bay windows; the wind was howling through the window due to the storm but had soon calmed down by the time it was bedtime, so no problems there. Few little negatives: mattress was a bit hard and lumpy; more teabags, sugar and milk required im the room for two people; continental breakfast was nice, but hot food in warmers not so good - hash browns soggy and food was tepid. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely come back if we're in the area.

We only ate and drank in the bar, but the bar food is excellent. Staff attentive and cheerful, especially zsofia. We will sample the hotel stay soon, but we do keep coming back to the bar. Child friendly too, our 13 year old made to feel very welcome!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. A great location, right on the sea front and at the top of the high street. The Marco Pierre White restaurant was an added bonus and a lovely Valentine's surprise from my husband. We will be back. Also recommend The Harbour Inn and Rocksalt at the harbour for a stay in Folkestone.

A Christmas gift but what a disappointment!! Firstly, staff were fantastic so this is no reflection on them but if I was in charge of the kitchen, I'd sack the chef! We were spoiled having already had a duplicated treat at Patisserie Valerie in Canterbury where the choice of food served was much better. Picture below of our tea at Clifton. Bottom layer - not sure what the mini rolls were but they were over baked so very hard & dry despite a slice of cucumber & slice of tomato; two fingers of a very dense olive bread with roll of prosciutto on top, mini dry pastry case with curl of smoked salmon inside & two finger slices of cheese on toast. Middle layer - Two plain scones & two fruit with a portion of cream & portion of jam to share. By far the best layer, enjoyable even though we'd have liked more jam. Top layer - a tasty mousse desert; same rock hard mini pastry case as smoked salmon with raspberry pie filling, a teaspoon of creme pat topped with a sour cherry topping - not a good taste on the pallet! Two mini Eccles cakes - a favourite of mine but sadly very hard & dry; finally a gingery parkin style cake topped with copious amount of icing - sadly had been cooked in shallow Yorkshire pudding style tin so very dense & hard. I'm only a home baker but could have done much better. We made a good effort so as not to upset grandchildren as their Gordy but two other tables of two in & leftovers were pretty much the same. As you have to pre-book there's really no excuse for the lack of standard of food.

The old style hotel charm was very nice. Sumptuous reception rooms and furniture made me feel like I had picked the right hotel for our stay. But the further away you get from reception and to the bedrooms, it was suffering. The room we had was on the 4th floor. The 2 man or 1 man lift with luggage, was helpful. The room however was sloping so badly anything that you put on the dressing table fell off. That meant the beds were also sloping. It might have only been 5 degrees (I checked), but I don;t like sleeping with my head lower than my feet. The bathroom, was old and the shower was useless as there was no water pressure. The only way to wash to was to use the shower like a weak hosepipe and hold it over your head by hand. At least there was hot water. The maze of corridors would mean I would have burned to death had there been a fire as I could not find my way to reception even when well lit and not in a panic. The gap under the door to the room was large enough to put a foot in, so not really fire proof. Parking was limited if you have a van. Breakfast was self serve and the cooked food tepid at best... It was OK all in all. Staff were fine and not a horror story, but it needs some work to bring up the quality of downstairs to the rooms.

Visited here for valentines weekend and unfortunately the weather was awful so was stuck in the hotel and I have to say the room wasn't the best it's a shame as the hotel downstairs is ok but our room wasn't very nice The staff were nice and friendly but that's as far as the good points go The room was in desperate need of some tlc the carpets were filthy and the bathroom was awful the toilet was leaking and the bath was disgusting The doors were falling apart Unfortunately due to the weather being so bad we decided to check out a day early and go home as the room wasn't nice to sit around in Unfortunately we wouldn't return to Folkestone

Room needed updating. Bed was comfy. Bathroom needs updating. Breakfast was average. Good location. Would stay again for a short stop over. Good value for what i paid. Marco pierre white restaurant was nice but there are good pubs about if you want a cheaper meal.

This well placed large hotel is perfect for business and families. Easy to deal with and very helpful. Car parking available at a small charge if you need to stay a little longer. Dinner and breakfast are very good quality with sensible prices. It is popular for groups, so value is regonised. Warm and freindly.

Rooms tired but clean and in good repair. Staff most friendly, courteous and helpful. Breakfast excellent. Good location with adequate on road parking outside at a very resonable rate. Reception staff sorted the booking.

My husband and I celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary by holding a party in the Garden Room of the hotel. What a fantastic time we and all our friends had celebrating this very special occasion. I can't thank the staff enough for all they did to make the evening such a success. Huge thanks to Zaida and the staff who were working that evening. I have to mention the wonderful Zaida who set up the venue perfectly. She thought of everything – where the cake needed to be, table for the presents, seating plan. During the evening Zaida discreetly kept an eye on everything, directing the waiting staff and letting them know when to put food out etc. She ensured everything ran smoothly and seamlessly. Thank you Zaida and your team for all your hard work. Also, a big thank you to the chef. The food was so tasty - lasagne and southern fried chicken and yummy desserts too. Everyone commented on how good the food was. Thanks to Neil and all who work for him including the lovely receptionist Philippa who I liaised with leading up to the party. Oh and thank you to Andre who helped with the presentation PowerPoint earlier in the evening. What great staff who go above and beyond to be helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I have experienced such friendly and professional service and I would highly recommend hiring out the Garden Room for any celebratory occasion.

It's not often I post a review of a hotel but this one is pretty bad I felt compelled. Arrived at the hotel at 8pm on a very wet and windy Sunday night. The hotel's restaurant was a Marco Pierre-White Steakhouse so I enquired if I needed to book a table and I was assured it was not necessary. So off I went to my ‘Executive Room' and unpacked. Room looked nice, if a little stuffy, but nothing an open sash window couldn't fix as there's the sea in front. Settled for a cup of tea (a little too basic with a couple Tetley teabags, 2 Nescafé and 2 sugar sachets with the customary UHT milk). I then decided to have a shower and it went downhill from there. The bathroom smelt awful as soon as I went in, and then I discovered the cleaner left unflushed poo festering in the toilet for hours. Flushed and sprayed perfume thinking I shouldn't have unpacked but decided to let it pass. I then went to the Restaurant at 9pm and was greeted by a gentleman who abruptly told me that they are closed! I asked him if there's anywhere else that serves food and he said most places closed at 9pm because it's a Sunday. Irked, I pointed out that all their literature states the Restaurant serves food until 10pm and that I did ask Reception if I needed to book. He proceeded to tell me that it was quiet so they closed. He then ushered me to the bar and said that I should be able to get some bar food there. How rude! I then went to Reception asking to speak to a manager but they had no hotel manager on duty and the person covering was the Restaurant Manager who it appears was the one who was dismissive of me. So I went to the bar to get done good. Luckily the bar staff was nice and friendly and lifted my spirit a little. I should have really seen the signs. Check in was already amiss when I was not told where and what time breakfast was and if it was included in the room rate. Then there's the dirty and smelly bathroom and restaurant fiasco. I can only hope it gets better because I'm stuck here for a week!

Wonderful situation in a Georgian terrace with views from the bar out to sea and onto a private garden. Staff very friendly and helpful. Delicious English breakfast. Safe parking ( in a municipal park one minute"s walk away). Only minor point-the romm was too hot and the radiators could not be adjusted. Otherwise the room exceptionally large and comfortable for a single.

I went for a couple of drinks with my dad for a catch up. I love this place beautiful inside with polite professional bar staff. The gentleman made me a few mocktails and they was delicious. I highly recommend and will be coming back soon.

Today we have a lovely Winter afternoon tea with some friends. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The staff were very attentive, in particular Zaida, who served us with unlimited tea in cosy surroundings. A perfect way to spend a winters afternoon.

2nd stay here and I am still in love ❤️ with it. So much character and charm. It was very windy during the night and the old sash windows really did rattle but didn't worry us it just added to the atmosphere of being in this beautiful old building. We had a great dinner in the MPW restaurant and a fabulous breakfast in the conservatory. If you are looking for swanky modern rooms with rain showers etc this is probably not for you but if you like good old fashioned British coastal hotels with a warm and very hospitable charm, great food and wonderful staff then I would thoroughly recommend a stay here. I am returning again next month for my third stay and I'm sure it won't be my last. Thank you all at The Clifton. ❤️

I took my friend here for afternoon tea as a Christmas gift, we weren't disappointed...the food was amazing and the wait staff were really welcoming and friendly. A member of staff called Matt was particularly hospitable and made us feel really at home. However there was what appeared to be a manager working who was unlike his staff, he was unfriendly and extremely rude to the staff, shouting at them in the restaurant area where we were. The ladies on the table next to us also commented how aggressive he seemed to the staff and unprofessional. I don't know what he is called but he had a black beard and a tattoo on his neck. If it wasn't for him I would give a top rating but he spoiled it a bit for us and the other customers.

Very Good Food ! A lovely Dining Room and Bar ! Breakfast a bit Pricey at £12. For a Buffet Type. The Rooms need an Upgrade to the Heating System ! Ours had a Storage Heater which had to be turned Off, Far to Hot in the Room and in the Bathroom the Heated Towel Rail was Red Hot All the Time and Couldn't be Adjusted. No Signage to tell Guests How Dangerous this could be ! The Bedding needs Upgrading to Duvets ! Not Old Fashioned Sheets & Blankets !

I have stayed here many times. Rooms are always spotless, staff lovely and food very nice.Sea view rooms are really nice ,however I had a street view this time and have no complaints.My room as usual was beautifully furnished, comfortable and cleaned to a very high standard

We have just had a brilliant 3 day Christmas break at the BW Clifton Hotel.The Hotel has excellent decor in the public areas on the ground floor.An excellent MPW Restaurant.All the food beautifully presented and excellent taste, Christmas Day Lunch and Boxing Day buffet lunch where a delight and the Head Chef, Richard and his team are to be congratulated.The Pastry Chef, Alinka makes excellent cakes and desserts. The Restaurant is run efficiently with a very attentive staff,Zaida Matt Logesh Chloe Serkan to name but a few. A very good wine list and a well stocked Bar. The Reception staff Philippa Christiana Andrai Neil and in fact all the Hotel staff are polite,professional and caring to all of their Customers.You are important to them and that comes across in the way you are treated.Nothing is to much trouble. Our Bedroom spotlessly clean,very comfortable beds and the room was a good size.The Housekeeper and her team do an excellent job. We have no hesitation in recommending the BW Clifton Hotel for a stay at any time and if you want Christmas away and be pampered you won't get better. In fact we are staying for New Years and looking forward to a good celebration.

Handily placed just about a ten minute drive from the Eurotunnel. Hotel is close to town centre with usual amenities. Hotel has Marco Pierre White restaurant within, about 45 covers. Ambience quite good with a nice environment.

Visited the Clifton Hotel today for an afternoon tea for my Birthday. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Our table was set out beautifully and the food was excellent. This is well worth a visit for the afternoon tea the whole experience was excellent will definately be going again, NOT TO BE MISSED. XX

We stayed one night having visited friends. Despite there being lots of Christmas parties our food arrived promptly and was well presented and enjoyable. Squeaky floorboards in the bedroom! I felt a bit guilty walking around in case I disturbed people.

We arrived late after a delayed shuttle crossing and the kitchen was about to close but we were accommodated and enjoyed a great pizza & salad ... hats off to the lovely staff . Great room very comfortable bed apart from the pillows that were very uncomfortable . All in all be paid little money for a great nights stay . Beverage tray is a great touch .

Before booking we asked and stressed the request for a quiet room on the top floor having suffered the baby elephant treatment from inconsiderate punters the night before in Eastbourne. No problem said the receptionist. On first appearences nice room in quirky hotel on 3 rd floor. Leaving the overcrowded and excitable young things from two parties in the bar we went to bed. Wrong the excitable and increasingly drunken young things smoked and shouted in the street staight below the room. What the noice was in the rooms on floor 1 and 2 heavens knows! My wife getting increasingly annoyed asked to switch rooms. The not so clever duty manager said what is the problem the parties will be finished by 12! ( Actually nearer 12.30 am taking waiting for taxis). After pressure we were moved to a very quiet room. Why not this room in the first place? The next morning platitudes after we stated that the cleaners were not told of the change so tried to barge in to clean the room. Nice downstairs but the staff lack coomon sense and knowlege of their hotel rooms. A real pity.

Nice looking hotel, right on the front. large comfortable room but no hot water! No hotel car park, but spaces right outside in front that if full there is a large covered car park 5 minutes walk away.

Although hotel was from last era, it is very well kept, clean, warm and very comfortable.Other than the unresponsive remote for the TV. I am very happy with my couple of nights' stay there.The bar and sitting lounge looks inviting and I was happy to have a drink and work away for a couple of hours on my laptop as it was quiet in the afternoon. It is also very good value for money. Parking is £3 for the day till noon on the next day. Only one thing to note. The lift is very small so, will be very scary for anyone who is clostrophobic. Otherwise, I recommend stays here. I shall return. There are other numerous restaurants nearby including an excellent chinese restaurant Hop Kweng (couple of minutes walk)

We stayed in the Best Western Clifton Hotel in Folkestone on their Sundau Savour offer. We had a pleasant room with a sea view and lovely 3 course evening meal for under £50 for the 2 of us. It was excellent value and we will be taking up this offer again soon in one of their other hotels.

Nice friendly staff, Good location, Right next to the beach. But, look old inside, need some TLC, And the sight of cockroaches trap in my (Bathroom) wasn't very nice. Would I recommend it ? Not sure 6 out of 10

Just returned from a 4 nights dinner, bed and breakfast with National Holidays. Prior to booking we reviewed the Clifton and the Burstin Hotel, opting for the Clifton with an extra supplement, as the reviews for the Burstin were very poor. I know you can't always go by reviews, but so many guests to look after was the put down for us. The Clifton, a very nice looking building surrounded by similar and well kept gardens and roads, on the cliff top with excellent views of the sea. An easy walk to the Harbour or town center makes the position easy for all. Apart from the excellent exterior the reception is very well laid out with high class decor, this extends to the lounge areas, bar and dining room. We were on floor 2 with garden and partial sea views, nice to have for a change. The room was a good size, nice bed/bedding, large tv, iron and board, hair dryer and tea/coffee facilities. As stated in other posts, the rooms are to be re-vamped, but everything was clean,tidy and functional, rooms cleaned daily with fresh towels, tea/coffee etc. The bar was excellent with plenty of choice and prices good, it seems all round Folkstone prices are on a par with each other. The restaurant layout was good and the food was very good quality. Having visited a few places with National, we couldn't believe what we were offered on the menu, everything was top class - well done ! The staff here are all friendly helpful and courteous, couldn't fault any of them. Would we stay here again ? YES !! National Holidays - not everyone's choice, but leave the cars at home and let someone else drive! We traveled down Monday from Leeds, all ok, evening meal a few drinks and an early night as we were away to Bruges via the ferry for the day, great trip but needed longer in Bruges (now we know it, would go again for longer). Wednesday was a trip to Canterbury, we paid extra for the scenic tour, and it was well worth it, with good knowledge from the driver Gary, quick tour of Folkstone and up to the war memorial, and RAF Menston museum, short stop at Deal, through Sandwich and Ramsgate (looks nice) and on to Canterbury, another nice town. Thursday was our day off so headed across the cliff top and down to Folkstone Harbour, nice set up and would be great on a summers day. Folkstone town center is good and typical now of most places that need a nudge in the right direction, but still has a lot to offer. Really can't pick on anything, so anyone looking at this trip and hotel - do it.

Visited here with a Groupon voucher for Afternoon Tea with a Gin and Tonic from a Tea Pot...... So so wasn't let down, sat in the bar area, was looked after really well... A tray of goodies that didn't disappoint... Scones to die for.... needed more cream.. The double Gin Bombay Sapphire and the tonics were infused with fruit...... absolutely delightful.... Topped it up with a 2nd double, great hour or so, will be doing it again.....

We stayed at this hotel and had a good experience. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a sea view and the staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel was close to the cliff top promande and I would stay here again.

Had a free voucher to stay here. Hotel is very tired in general - however rooms are quite frankly appalling as pictures show. Only stayed 2 nights - so did not ask to move - thought it better to review as if I were any member of the staff I would have been embarrassed to put someone in the room. Bathroom was mould ridden and shower was powered by hamster wheel. For the record Folkestone is nice!

Booked this deal for my husband's birthday, one night stay and a 2 course meal at Marco Pierre white restaurant, breakfast and late check out, warm welcome when we arrived, large room, clean with partial sea view, bathroom very clean but old suite, but excellent for the money paid. Meal deal menu limited but we upgraded to the main menu, worth it the steak Delmonico was amazing (£56 for 2) we had £34 deducted from the bill as part of the meal deal. Would definitely recommend this

I must say I didn't have high expectation beforehand having read the reviews here. However, it turned out we had an amazing time there and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to others! The room we were given was on the third floor and had a stunning view of the sea. You could tell the room was definitely a bit dated but nonetheless very clean and made a comfortable stay. I had to call the front desk in the middle of the night when the fuse jumped in the bathroom. Even though it couldn't be fixed right away, the staff was very responsive and communicative and offered us to move to another room. Being in the middle of the night, we couldn't be bothered to make the switch and the issue was fixed during breakfast time in the morning. The breakfast was another highlight of our stay. There was a broad selection of both hot and cold food. The restaurant on the ground floor came across as a bit of a contrast to the rest of the building. It was newly renovated and had a slick modern touch to it. Parking (£3 permit for 24hrs from midday) was a bit of an issue as it seemed impossible to find a spot right in front of the hotel from 5pm onwards. The alternatives being the on-street parking nearby or another 24hr underground car park a few minutes walk away. The only complaint I have is the amount of creaking you hear from people walking through the corridors (unsurprising given the age of the building!). Overall it was a very pleasant stay in a convenient location with easy access to the high street as well as the beach.

Had to stay here for 2 and half weeks for work. The hotel rooms/bathrooms are extremely dated. We experienced a broken mattress, mice droppings in the bathroom, shower filling up through plughole (when not even in use!!) with water containing large brown particles (gross!) Torn carpet on the stairs. Shower screens that leak badly. Noise late at night from bar opposite and early from rubbish collections. I could go on........... The Marco Pierre White restaurant sadly did not live up to expectiations with overcooked meat and chips which could have come from the freezer! The staff were generally helpful and friendly and we received particularly good service from Alex and Cathy. Recommend you find somewhere else to stay.

Nice hotel, several houses joined so lots of narrow passageways, lifts tiny but ok, some odd wallpaper choices in corridors. Room was clean with all we needed but a bit dated. Breakfast very good. Parking is a bit annoying. But we enjoyed our stay.

We always stay at this hotel when visiting the father-in-law's in Folkstone,this is the first time we have not been happy with it . My wife and two daughters had separate rooms and were kept awake by the windows banging in the strong winds,my room was unfortunately at the front of the hotel and the noise from the bar across the road was dreadful until the early hours.Apart from these issues it's not a bad hotel we were offered our breakfast free due to having no sleep.

The hotel was allocated for us but very satisfied. The bed was comfortable and room fine although little dated. A very good breakfast available and service was excellent. Overall a very good hotel and would happily stay here again. The hotel has an excellent Marco Pierre White restaurant which is very good.

Check in was quick and the reception resolved an issue of booking date being incorrect. On initially entering the room 112 we immediately saw another door with 113 on it, door to 112 was open and there was a bathroom ajacent, immediately went back to reception as it looked like we would be sharing the bathroom, was told that original it was let out as an apartment and room 113 wasn't used. When entering the bedroom the décor and carpet were in a very poor state of repair. Carpet had rips and stains, and the wallpaper and fireplace looked dirty. The bed was clean and comfortable. As this was booked with a BuyAGift voucher we didn't feel that we could complain. The shower was excellent and very powerful but the shower door didn't fit tight to the bath and water went all over the floor. We ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant on the first night and although the food was good, the food in the Oceana restaurant was just as good and a lot cheaper. Would stay here again as in good location but would certainly ask for a different room if it wasn't up to standard.

What a great hotel.Easy check in rooms were ready ( we had 3 twin rooms being a group of 6 friends). Two of the rooms had wonderful big windows looking out to the sea. Nice and clean. Dinner in the MPW restaurant was very good, we ate from the set menu as we were staying on a Wowcher deal. Breakfast was very good too, vegetarian sausages cooked to order for us. Really enjoyed our stay here and all 6 of us agreed that we would love to return.

We have just returned from a two night break at this hotel. We had to stay in Folkestone due to a family member being ill. We used a voucher and booked through ref letter day for a deluxe two night stay with breakfast in this hotel. The hotel is in a lovely Victorian building and our room was on the highest point of the hotel which made the view from our window beautiful. However getting to the room was a task!!! the 2 person lift goes to the 4rh Floor we then had to go round long corridors and more stairs to get to our room which was under the eaves of the hotel. Anyone older would have found this very difficult. The room itself was not very nice. not only was the floor completely uneven but so was the walls furniture even our bed which made our head lower than our feet, Couldn't use the bedside table as nothing would stay on it and everything just slid off. Getting up in the night to go to the bathroom was very disorientating. Parking at the hotel is a complete nightmare and although there are bays out the front they are full up very early on. There is an underground car park but you have to apply a ticket from 8am in the morning. On a plus side the breakfast is very nice and the staff are lovely. I can only assume we were put in this room because we used a discount voucher which still was a decent amount to pay for this hotel.

We stayed here for a short anniversary break and the hotel was very nice. Breakfast was the highlight but the room was big, as was the bed. Location is OK but there is a rather steep hill down to the harbour and back again (if only the leas cliff lift was still open!). Overall a very nice stay, very nice area and would definitely recommend.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel.....and we liked it so much. The receptionist was very helpful and welcoming when we arrived and when we checked out. The reception room, and indeed the bar and all other spaces on the ground floor are comfortable and very attractively designed. The dinner in the Marco Pierre Wight Restaurant was excellent! Very varied menu each of the 3 nights, and extremely generous helpings. The staff were courteous and helpful at all times. Our only disappointment was our room (120). Not as good as we've had at other Best Western Hotels. Too cramped...mainly because there's too much furniture in there...the 2 armchairs are much too big, and the chest of drawers too near the bed. But we had a really happy time in this hotel, and will surely return next time we're in Folkestone.

This was a one-night for us en route for the Channel Tunnel and it proved ideal. No carpark, but one very close and secure. Good room and excellent breakfast and really close to the tunnel. Well situated for restaurants too. Worth the stay - nice and quiet too.

We had our wedding reception at the Clifton on 7 Sept. What a lovely venue, the location is excellent, with awesome views and a lovely place to have photos. The food was excellent and our guests (and us) were all very complimentary. We were happy with the service and it all came out quickly and hot and tasty. The staff were great, and very friendly. We were made to feel very special and had a really wonderful day. The communication with the venue prior to the wedding was really good and we felt relaxed that things would go smoothly, which they did. Thank you for hosting us. We'll definitely be back for an afternoon tea (or two)!

It's always an excellent welcome at the hotel normally welcomed by Pillipa who is always obliging and can't do enough to make your stay a good one . The rooms are very clean . And an excellent choice of food from bar snacks to succulent steaks in the main restaurant where the dining room staff are always there With a smile waiting to greet you .I just have one small gripe and I wish the showers had more power .well done all of you .

This hotel is one of many splendid Victorian buildings looking out from The Leas across the channel. On a busy Bank Holiday Monday none of the parking spaces outside were available, a shame as the hotel gets preferential rates there, but we found the excellent Sandgate Road underground car park just round the corner. The reception area is spacious, tastefully decorated, while the checking in was friendly and efficient. Our room was up on the third floor and getting to it involved negotiating a warren of passages and a lift that could only take two people. The splendour of the public rooms doesn't reach this far. But the room itself had everything we needed, including an upright fan that was a lifesaver on a very hot night. They have their own restaurant, but we chose to explore and choose somewhere from the many places to eat on the main high street. We did get to use the restaurant in the morning, however, and found an excellent buffet breakfast set out with a wealth of choice. My only criticism was that the coffee served with breakfast was rather insipid for my taste. They do have their own Costa Coffee bar on-site, which the breakfast staff could well have done with a lesson from. There is also a very pleasant bar in which we got very refreshing drinks much later that morning, just before we set off for home. The Clifton Hotel ticks most of the boxes and was good value for money. Folkestone is a great place to visit and this hotel is a good place to explore it all from.

The Best Western Clifton Hotel is situated high up with lovely views over the sea. My husband and had a sea view room which was clean and comfortable although the plumbing was noisy. The bar was situated with a sea view when having an evening drink.

we stayed at the best Weston hotel folkstone the room was excellent ,clean, and very inviting We had dinner which was the best you could wish for and the service was great . The breakfast was well worth the money paid but you eat too much.

This was our second stay in this gem of a hotel. And it was a fabulous stay. The hotel is very well situated. We had a stroll along the prom, a walk to the beach and a trip into the town all without moving the car. We love the fact that its an older hotel with lots of character. We truly loved the room and didnt want to leave! A big thank you to Cristiana for making a lovely effort to ensure that we had such a lovely memorable weekend. We will be back again.

I attended a wedding here in August , the venue was well.appointed and the staff couldn't have been more helpful , good and drinks were first rate . We would love to come back and stay as the rooms we saw were lovely

We stayed here for a one night break and dinner. The main public areas of the hotel are beautifully decorated, the restaurant is excellent in both decor and standard of food and service. However, the hotel room we had, while large, was awful. The room was dark, the furnishings were tired and old and the bathroom was dire. It had old Lino floor covering that was lifting in places, when the bath was used the drainage caused grey stuff to come up in the shower tray - it was very dated and the room we had showed the money has not been invested beyond refurbishing the main public areas. It was the worst hotel room we have ever stayed in and unfortunately we won't be returning. We will however return to the Marco Pierre restaurant.

We stayed at this hotel because they offered such a good inclusive deal. I asked for a sea view and did not have to pay for an upgrade. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was comfortable, clean with nice enough furnishing and well equipped with hangers, iron, refreshments etc. The bathroom was a bit tired and the shower a bit unpradictable but not a problem. The ambiance in the restaurant was good and the food fresh and tastey. We had all we could want on offer for breakfast, including touches like fresh sourdough bread. The public areas of the hotel were nicely decorated. Overall we were very impressed and will definately return.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Clifton Hotel. The location on the Leas is just lovely. The appearance and upkeep of the hotel is very good. It is an old hotel so do not be surprised by an odd smell here and chipped paint here and there. If you are finicky it will not be for you. If you like good quality and value for money in a lovey location it will be for you. Firstly we were warmly welcomed. Room 108 large and comfy. No complaints and a really comfy bed. Corridor rather musty and smelly on way to room but the room was not musty at all. Very impressed with the coffee bar downstairs. The highlight of our stay was the quality of the breakfast. Beautifully cooked and fresh for a buffet breakfast and was impressed as the chef came and tested the food temperature with his thermometer which I have never seen in a hotel before. The breakfast room was lovely with window seats looking out onto the lawn and sea nearby. Outside seating also if you want. I would definitely stay here again as we had no complaints at all and was value for money. Thank you to the staff who made our stay very good.

I really enjoyed my stay here, the restaurant was renewed and all the staff were very freindly and helpfull. The rooms were very tidy and hygienic. The rooms are getting renovated at the end of the year (they can do with some updates). We had a bath witch was a pleasant surprise. The ground floor has been renovated and you can tell, it looks really good.

Staff are the life of the hotel trade, and this hotel has no worries in that department. It may be part of a larger chain, but the staff members I met here were caring, diligent and proactive for visitors. The hotel may be faux french, but it's been on the Leas a long time, over a hundred years to be more precise. Here the staff strive to give you a very warm welcome, the laid back more classic ambience and all in the location a stone's throw from the sea. Overall, they give it an older more gentile feel to visitors, where famous friends and people like James May, and Jeremy Clarkson and others have stayed in the past reputedly Don't be fooled for Folkestone is a busy place, and like all sea side towns it has its problems but the hotel is not one of them- it is a magical microcosm of people quietly beavering away so that you can enjoy your stay without any effort; and look forward to coming back again. The older style facade contains a lovely interior period building, which has not suffered many changes by over enthusiastic architects or designers trying to create a name for themselves. My biggest problems was not being able to take the dog to this Best Western Hotel ( note;others do allow them), and only having 4 tea bags and milk left when I arrived in my room. Although, I was pleasantly surprised to find they had provided large healthy BW brand mugs- instead of the normal small ration regulation 100 ml ( 4 oz.) english tea cups found so often elsewhere. Being English, I do like a good brew and the lack of a decent teapot was my only other unspoken concern. The reception was faultless, the Maitre D in the resturant for the full, (and I do mean full serve yourself as much as you wish) English breakfast - was attentive, but not intrusive. His years of experience proving a delight to see, while you could sit peacefully eating, and view the garden outside in all the seasons or glorious changeable english weather. Our room, faced both the road and saw the sea. Which means you must not be surprised by the noise of eager early travellers starting their vehicles to catch the Sunrise Eurotunnel to jolly France. Parking was efficient and well catered for visitors and seamless as well. Mini's all sat cheek by jowl with Rolls Royces, and Jaguars of business men and family Nissans, or even the odd camper vans newly arrived from the continent. Choosing the hotel as part of their journey, because they knew they would find both value and comfort here- slightly outside town. next to the esplanade and within easy walking distance of the many bars and popular eateries that catered for all tastes and nationalities that were in town. Oh, and also find a good range of local beers! In Folkestone, you could see the harbour, hear late Karaoke, or walk along the 18th century granite setts ( not Cobbles - for they are round) that line the fabulous unlevel old High Street. So much - so that it is almost like a timewarp stepping on the setts, and it does feels a little surreal to walk upon them in the 21st century. So a brief summary, do visit Folkestone to see an old style town - where you can promenade, visit friends or escape to Europe, but do go and enjoy the warm hospitality of this slightly out of the way good value and exquisite hotel. Who also secret a Marco Pierre outlet that does tasteful and charming carvery on Sundays, and delicous foods, burgers on all the other days of the week to titilate your tastebuds. The worst thing about doing a good review for this hotel- is that it will pass the word on and now spread it's existance to a wider net of new users. Which they really thoroughly deserve- if only by dint of quiit effort and local word of mouth - and hopefully that it will not ruin the charm that I found there during my stay, or increase the price, when I want to return again. Note; below that I put Budget - but do not be mislead. Please define it, and read it as - solid, unpretentious honest good value - but not cheap or economy when you see me use the word.

We visited the Clifton in Folkestone for two nights. The hotel is of a good standard. The ground floor has been refurbished, and the restaurant is very stylish. Our bedroom was a good size, and had a sea view. The bedrooms are in need of a makeover style wise, but were clean, and comfortable, with a nice bathroom. The room offered free toiletries, excellent wifi, hairdryer, and a fan was thoughtfully provided for hot days. The hotel is well placed for walks down to the beach, or along the prom, or for a short walk into the town centre. The hotel staff are helpful, and the young man on reception particularly stood out for high quality of service. The breakfast was of good quality. I recommend the Clifton for a pleasant stay in Folkestone.

I went with a friend we was given room 240 ,very spacious sea view ,as previous people have said rooms due an update rest of hotel been done restaurant lounge and bar all decorated to 5 star standard , But the bedroom had spotless white towels and bedding very big bath towels ,good tea coffee tray with biscs ,could not find fault with facilities . we had diiner in the restaurant the 3 course menu all food well presented and tasty ,special mention to Cathie our waitress so helpful and happy pleasant manner Large glasses wine £7 so average for hotel prices . breakfast very good quality product bacon sausages etc ,ask for fried or scrambled eggs ,check in 2pm checkout 11am parking you park outside where says pay display ,do not buy ticket ,go inside pay £3 they tap online and register your car till 12 next day so great value parking and yes we will return ,another great western hotel stay

I dine quite regularly in the Marco Pierre White Restaurant at the Clifton Hotel. The service is of a consistent high standard. I particularly commend Sophie and Matt for their professional expertise. May I suggest that a refrigerator is installed in the restaurant to store bottled water rather than the staff resorting to the bar for this basic requirement? My only reservation is with a menu that caters for steak addicts, and MPW appears to have a fixation with peas as an accompaniment to many of the dishes. Not the easiest vegetable to grapple with. One can only hope that in time the great man will become acquainted with a wider range of wholesome vegetables and enhance the menu accordingly. No expense has been spared on a decor which borders on the sumptuous. All the fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality. The ambience is pleasant and the restaurant is well placed to afford views over a peaceful landscape of lawns and trees. I'm not sure if the model of the Titanic on display strikes the right note in view of the auspicious circumstances in which the restaurant was launched as one of MPW's flagship eateries. The object is an ominous reminder of a notorious failure. The coffee is excellent, superior to that served in the bar which emanates from a well-known chain of mediocre coffee shops catering for clientele with defective taste buds.

Delicious dinner large portions. Standard room was good. Ground floor and restaurant and bar have been developed and are top notch modern and high quality furnishings used. The rest of the hotel is a bit tired but may be underway of a facelift from skip outside. Brekkie was also delicious

I stayed at the Clifton for four nights with my son. We had a lovely big room on the fourth floor that looked out onto the gardens and sea. Our room was cleaned every day, fresh towels and tea and biscuits provided daily. We had breakfast every day and there was plenty of choices. We opted for the continental breakfast each day but the cooked breakfasts looked good too. The staff were really friendly and helpful, both at the reception, the bar and the staff working around breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble, including our room upgrade after the first night as I struggled to sleep with people coming and going from the lift near our initial room. I must also give a big thank you to the young lady who served us most nights at the bar/ restaurant, (I'm sorry, I didn't think to ask your name!) but she was so cheerful and even when the bar was short-staffed and she was dealing with guests who didn't know the meaning of the word, smile, she remained upbeat and professional. A real credit to your hotel. We had dinner once at the bar, the food was cooked well, and presented nicely. A lot of reviews have said that the rooms and the upstairs landings are dated and tatty, I knew when I booked that the hotel is undergoing renovations and obviously this isn't achieved in a night, so please bear this in mind if you decide to stay there. For me, the room was clean and well equipped and I know that should I return in a year or so, if they have completed the works, then it will be beautiful. The reception, bar, restaurant areas have already been done to an extremely high standard so I assume the rest of the hotel will follow suit. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel and in Folkestone. I went for some quiet time and that is exactly what I found. The coast and the Leas gardens are stunning.

To be completely honest; yes the rooms are dated, yes the furniture is dated and big yes the building itself is dated (expect steep stairwells and we didn't even trust the ‘lift'!!) BUT inside the room, we had everything we needed, even better than some 4/5 star, branded chain hotels eg. a fan! Okay so there's no air-con but at least there's a fan in the room which has proven difficult to get in other hotels. Reading the reviews I guess we had quite a small room, tiny bathroom but it is everything we needed - coffee and tea making facilities (and more than just one cup!), tele, hairdryer, iron, honestly couldn't grumble and a massive thank you to the staff who let us check-in early due to a wedding we were attending in the area and called us a taxi to get us there. Couldn't have been more helpful. Location is great, can leave the car parked for £3 overnight and it was a 10 minute walk to what I assume is a town-center, where we grabbed breakfast.

We have visited this hotel twice in one month since we enjoyed our first overnight stay so much that we wanted to return and stay a bit longer. Our rooms on both visits were spacious, with comfortable beds and seating. Both had spacious bathrooms, both with baths, one with a shower over and the other with a separate shower cubicle and a bidet. Both rooms had lovely sea views. The breakfast was a hot and cold self-service buffet with plenty of choices to make a delicious and satisfying meal.

Excellent place, service, food and room was fantastic, I had room 103 with a sea view, would highly recommend.very close to the sea and a short walk to the port. Stayed with a Marco escapes package and will return again very soon

Rooms in attic, 1 next to elevator 2nd down long twisting narrow corridor with multiple height changes. No air-con, couldn't keep the windows open due to Gulls perching on frontage, very poor bathroom, tired decor and fixtures and fittings

Stayed here for 2 nights at the weekend. It's a charming Victorian hotel which although ISNA little tired has all that anyone could ask for. We requested and got a room with a sea view. Rooms have loads of extra s beside the usual tea and coffee making facilities, such as a free safe, a cooling fan, an iron and ironing board, a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. Oh and a TV and radio alarm clock. Also free WiFi throughout the hotel. On Sunday we took lunch at the Marco Pierre White restaurant within the hotel and that was a real treat! 3 courses for only £18.95 each . And the food was something else. Breakfast each day was buffet style and the staff were forever checking that there was plenty. Cleanliness here is second to none with our room and all public areas exceptionally clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly, professional and attentive. So although this hotel is only a 3 star I have given it 4 stars. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

We booked a 2 night stay in a Superior King Bed room with sea view through Hotels.com. On check in I asked the young man who checked us in to confirm that we had a king bed with a sea view, he said yes and gave us directions to our room on the first floor. We followed the directions through a reasonably modernised ground floor and then went up a grotty dark narrow staircase to a dark landing. Our room was through a door, into another small dark landing area, there were 4 doors one had our number on it. We entered into a very small, very dismal dated room, double bed, threadbare carpet and view across a garden and trees. No bathroom! We opened the door onto the corridor and saw a bathroom opposite. We went straight back to reception and asked for the duty manager. I said we had booked a king superior sea view room and was not prepared to stay in the room we had been given. The duty manager Andre appeared and I said it was not acceptable to have a bathroom across the corridor and he tried to assure me that no one else would be using it! We were then given a king superior room with sea view. I feel that the hotel had tried to fob us off with a very inferior room so BEWARE. The hotel's public areas are pleasant but once you step out of the public area it is all very tired, dated and in dire need of renovation. Our room was just okay, a decent size and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was grotty and I didn't like using it! Breakfast pleasant but not amazing. Location good for walking into town. Would not go back.

To celebrate our 50th golden wedding anniversary we wanted to have meal at Marco Pierre White restaurant and stay at Best western. What a waste of money !!!! Rude staff - no welcome, good morning or any other politeness. Room below standard cracked tiles in bathroom etc . Breakfast was all Cold ! We were early down but still all hot food terrible. Asked member of staff where fresh orange juice was reluctantly said ‘outside ‘ and walked off. Not response we've ever had and terrible rudeness of all staff. They should all get other jobs if really not interested in hospitality. Would NOT recommend to anyone

This is a traditional hotel with lots of history and the rooms reflect this to some extent as some could do with modernising as décor is dated. This might not be as easy as it seems due to the age of the building and balancing traditional values. The staff are all very welcoming and courteous. The breakfast is good value and varied in choice. The restaurant was also very good although staff were a little slow as some were in training .I'm sure service will improve as they progress. Parking can be an issue but if you arrive around 4pm there should be a few spaces available right in front of the hotel. You have to pay £3.00 a day for this but its good value. Give your details to reception and they will sort it for you . Failing that there is a nearby Multi storey to park in.. The hotel is within walking distance of the town centre and you can have a stroll along the seafront as well.

I was here as part of a large coach party although I did enjoy staying here the hotel did need a revamp my room (232) was showing signs of tiredness but still very clean and well presented staff were very attentive without being overbearing the location of the property being on the seafront was lovely but without being bothersome with local pubs nearby there is no real reason to go into town to get a beer

Had a lovely one night stay at the Clifton Hotel. Traditional British Hotel - Beautiful little bar which after a long drive was very welcome, ice cold peroni on draught. Booked into the Marco Pierre Steak House for the evening meal - did the dinner , bed & breakfast option with 1970's prawn cocktail, steak and beautiful shortbread and ice cream dessert.Excellent value for money delicious food & lovely selection of wines.Service excellent. Breakfast the next morning lots of choice and again excellent service.

We stayed here for a long weekend to visit the Deal festival. The hotel is made up of three or four large houses put together which makes for some eccentric internal geography and odd shaped rooms. Whatever the quirks of our fourth floor room overlooking the sea, it was clean and comfortable, and with its good ventilation we slept well despite it being hot and humid during our stay. The staff are helpful and accommodating and the breakfasts were excellent. Particularly good bacon, sausages and pastries. A very good place to stay in the heart of Folkestone.

Stayed at the Clifton several years ago, was a pleasant hotel quite old fashioned. But stayed this week and what a transformation, modern but comfortable, I did realise that they had only finished downstairs and that the bedrooms were next to be refurbished. We were on a Groupon deal for one night and the room they allocated was 229 on the second floor and was very nice,with big bay windows and nice clean bedding and towels.The deal included a 3 course evening meal and we were not disappointed, the biggest Prawn cocktail ever for stater full of prawns, sea bass was lovely and finished with a delicious Mango crumble.Must mention the staff were excellent as well. Breakfast was extremely good with so much choice, weather was kind as well what more could anyone ask for thank you Clifton.

I read a few reviews and this does not match my experience at all. We stayed in a room very high up, which was just revolting. The refurb clearly hasn't arrived st the upper levels. The bedroom clearly hadn't been updated since the 1970s or thereabouts. The mattress literally swallowed me up as I sat on the bed so there was no sleep to be had that night as it was so soft and worn out. Tea facilities were in the room. Shower was adequate and there were toiletries. We didn't eat due to an early morning crossing and also chose a fish restaurant somewhere else for good so can't comment on that. Location is good. But. You can park for free after 6pm I think. We arrived 30 mins before and didn't tell us so we had to pay their £3 deal... small amount but good service would surely have told us.... We won't be back. There are better places for the same money nearby.

We visited Best Western Clifton on a special offer and were very surprised at the standard set both for the accommodation and the food. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was good with a good shower over the bath. Breakfast had an excellent wide range on offer both hot and cold.It was of excellent quality. Dinner menu looked very good and reasonably priced. We were on an offer including choices from the set menu. We had the choice to convert to a la carte but found the set menu very, very good. Hotel is well placed on the seafront. I recommend this hotel.

My husband booked a one night stay for our anniversary, unbeknown to us there was a Forces Festival taking place on the Sunday. This did mean road closures around the hotel and finding parking were initially a problem. However the atmosphere in the town and in the hotel was amazing, and it was easy later on to gain a parking space outside, which for £3 for twenty four hours was great value. A display by the Red Arrows was the icing on the cake. We had upgraded, and our room was very nice, full sea views and spacious. Huge bed, tea and coffee making, hairdryer, iron and board and large fan in wardrobe. Plenty of storage for clothes. We ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant, and the food was delicious. Breakfast was ok. Receptionist very pleasant and helpful. I would have given an extra star but the bathroom was tiny and very hot. Would love to return especially when the refurbishment of bedrooms is complete. Brilliant venue in the summer months

We stayed here for two nights in a large group for a business event. As a manager, I often charge delegates drinks / food to my room and will pay for them all. On this occasion, I forgot to pay for one round of drinks (FYI This came to £45 for 10 people, not cheap!) and we went out to dinner. I was still staying there so I wouldn't have assumed that would be an issue as I hadn't checked out. I returned to my room and went to bed about 10:30pm. At 11:30pm YES 11:30pm, a member of staff from downstairs called and demanded I go downstairs to pay the outstanding bill. I was in bed. Asleep. In my pyjamas. He kept uttering something about policy etc, well if this is your policy - it's ridiculous. I was woken up! I informed him I wasn't going anywhere and would settle the bill in the morning, which I duly did. This was SO unprofessional and so annoying on what would have been a much better rating for this hotel. The restaurant is lovely but the rooms are dated, but would usually have been a 4-5 star rating for me so this was a massive let down.

Have not been here since the refurbishment and it does look good. We went for a small (over 20 people) two course lunch in a very nice dining room overlooking the gardens. We had drinks in the bar with lovely colourful comfortable settees. The meal was very good I had salmon fishcake followed by a pesto mix stuffed chicken breast it was very tasty the roast beef and fish dishes were also good. With some really nice sancerre wine I really enjoyed it. I know some in our party did say they were very disappointed with the Marco Pierre steakhouse when they ate there so not sure if that dining room is as good, but we were happy with our meal.

Stayed here for a weekend in June 2019. Hotel is a mix of modern decor in public areas and old Traditional English style rooms, a sort of very pleasant cross between Fawlty Towers and a modern chain, which we loved. The Reception area is a little small and check-in a little slow, but we were in no hurry. Staff were generally friendly, polite and helpful. Room was great, we had a second floor room at the front of the hotel, overlooking the sea. Room was very spacious, lovely en-suite with a huge bath which my wife loved. Location wise, it is easily found, being a 5 minute drive from the M20 motorway and a 10 minute walk to the town centre, and a quaint old high street that leads down to the harbour. We ate an evening meal in the Marco Pierre White restaurant located within the hotel, which to be honest we were mildly disappointed with. The food was......just ordinary, expected more. The Menu is quite limited if you don't want to order steak, good portion side but flavour wise pretty average. We ordered a Mojito and a Strawberry Daquiri from the bar, whoever was making the cocktails needs to go back to school. Way too much alcohol, the mint in the mohito wasn't crushed, it was just a tiny sprig thrown in for decor, not the end of the world, but again I expected more. Restaurant staff whilst they were polite and cheerful, were slow and not very attentive. We ate out second night. Breakfast on the other hand was pretty good, really nice sausages and bacon, with other options (cereal, fruit, croissants, ham, cheese) if you didn't want anything too heavy. There is a lovely coffee shop in the hotel too, which was very pleasant. Parking is an issue - the hotel doesn't have a car park, you have to pay at reception to use the public car park out the front.......if you can find a space. Rate wasn't too bad to be fair, £3 for the day. Had to wait to get a parking space though, which isn't ideal. There is a night club right opposite the front of the hotel, which I imagine could be an issue, though it was quiet during our stay. Would probably stay at the hotel again, more for the location than the restaurant, as there are several lovely walks along the beach or the cliff top from the hotel's front door.

My partner and myself stayed for one night on a Saturday the deal included a 3 course meal and breakfast and the value for money was exceptional. The hotel also upgraded our room as it was my birthday which was a lovely touch. The communal areas of the hotel are very nice the bar is modern with a huge variety of drinks and the restaurant was stylish, our meal on Saturday night was excellent and the young lady who served us (Kerry) was an absolute credit to the establishment she had a great personality and we enjoyed chatting with her throughout our meal. Breakfast was once again fantastic with everything you could want and the gentleman who seated us was as friendly as Kerry had been the night before. Upstairs the hallways were in need of a little tlc but this did not detract from a wonderful stay we will definitely return, this hotel has done very well to find such good friendly helpful staff and that makes such a difference thank you

The Clifton is an excellent Hotel. The bar / restaurant, the room, the staff and the food are really all first class. The breakfast was out of this world, the room very spacious (even for a single), the bed was comfy and the view of the seafront just perfect. You even get a bath (+shower), which something very rare nowadays. Keep up the good work chaps.

We had a lovely 2 night stay staff where lovely & friendly! Breakfast was very nice plenty of choice, would definitely stay at this hotel again if down this way good value for what we paid our room was lovely!

Arriving at the hotel we were given a 24 hour parking permit for a very reasonable £3 to leave the car right outside the front door. The reception staff were polite and helpful and the room was large and well equipped with plenty of storage space. The window looked onto a side street but you could see the sea - an added bonus. We had a deal which included dinner. This was very good as we had the choice of a three course set menu or to put £24.95 each towards the a la carte. Our food was tasty and well presented and everything that went past to other tables looked very good. The service was excellent and there was a good choice of wines. Breakfast was also tasty with fruit, cold cuts and a hot buffet. All in all a great night and good value for money.

Be aware that the heating will be on full all year round as when I rang reception to ask how to turn it off I was told “it is an old system and if we turn yours off, no one has hot water. Just close the bathroom door to the boiling towel rail. Uncomfortably hot, had a fan but noisy. Opened window but seagulls started at 3.20am. If you don't mind sleeping in a sauna then go ahead and book.

False advertisement of the website and far too expensive for what it is. We went for a walk along the sea front and harbour and came back to check into room 221. At this point I had informed the receptionist on duty that we had an "Executive Double" room book, to which he sniggered and gave us the key card. We were directed past the Marco Pierre White restaurant to the lift. As we turned into the corridor of the lift it immediately became apparent that the time, money and effort had stopped there, with the dated carpets and very claustrophobic lift with carpet wallpaper. We arrived on the second floor where we found our room quite easily. It was what happened next that we didn't expect. On going into the "Executive Double" room we were greeted with dated wallpaper, which was obviously so old it had started to peel off the wall. We put our belongings down and tested the bed. As I laid on one side and my partner laid on the other he quickly noticed the mattress was of no use as his back went straight to the base of the bed. As I turned over the other side we noticed more problems with the "Executive Double" room. The skirting board was breaking away from the wall and the carpet was also fraying and breaking away from the underlay. As we looked up we then noticed massive cracks along the ceiling that were attempted to be covered up by wallpaper. Now the sniggering of the receptionist made sense. Before heading out for dinner we both freshened up using the private bathroom facility. The bathroom had a broken door, dirty tiles, filthy grouting, broken bath mat, dirty taps, dirty shower head and overall an old bath. I felt dirtier when I got out of the bath than when I got in it. We headed down for dinner at the in house Marco Pierre White restaurant where it picked up a little bit. We received fantastic service in the restaurant from Chloe and the food was delightful. We headed into the local town to a pub before returning to go to bed. As we walked back into the room and locked the door we noticed the hinges of the door were basically falling off. This didn't make us feel very safe when we were asleep. However we stayed for the first night and when we woke up on 7th June we went for breakfast before heading out for the day. When we got to the restaurant for breakfast we waited around for five minutes before someone came and seated us. During these five minutes we looked at the options for breakfast. There was a great selection of hot foods that were kept warm and were very much enjoyable. However, as for the cold meats, cheeses and fruit it looked like it had been festering for weeks; dry, crusty and most of them out of a fermented tin. We set off for the day and returned around 3:30pm. At this point when we returned we still couldn't understand how our room was an executive room so we checked on the website at the "Executive Double" room which was very clearly different to the horrendous room we had been allocated. So we packed up and our two night stay came to an abrupt end. Once we had packed up we headed back down to reception to check out a day early. The receptionists (there were three of them) took a while to notice I was there and when I asked to check out they seemed mildly shocked. As I explained to them how disappointed and upset we were with the false advertisement and how let down we were as we had still not yet been able to celebrate our engagement thanks to the disgusting room there was no offer for me to complain and quite frankly they weren't interested.

We went here using a BuyaGift Voucher. Very nice room with a view {although the heated towek rail in the bathroom created a sauna!} Staff were lovely and the breakfast was excellent. Walk away from Folkestone town centre to get the best experience!

Downstairs very nicely decorated and the cream teas delicious. The staff make the place though, Philippa on reception is fantastic and Maj is a wonderful ambassador for the hotel, actually all the staff made us very welcome and were professional and friendly. Thank you

A very good experience - lovely room, courteous and helpful staff and a good location. The room was spotless and tidied and cleaned appropriately each day. I had no problems but I be,I eve parking can be a chalkenge

Staff polite and friendly - the hotel's best asset. Although clean, the room we had was a let down for the price - tired and dated, especially the bathroom. £88 was far too much to charge. Also no air con - not unusual in an Edwardian building I know, but we had the windows open all night and a fan and it wasn't a particularly warm evening. Breakfast was good - large selection, held in a well-decorated pleasant dining room. I have stayed in the Best Western Burlington and the rooms are far superior for the same price. I like to support local hotels when visiting my home town, but I won't be returning to the Clifton until the rooms are updated.

Stayed at the Cliffton Hotel, this was a trip for us down memory lane of our childhood. This hotel is in a good location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room over looking the sea. Breakfast was very good with lots of options.

A very nice place to stay, good staff and excellent restaurant although quite highly priced. Pleasant location, very good for leas cliff hall. Some rooms still need updating.. rooms facing the night club are not good for sleep on a Saturday night.

Our birding group stayed here from Fri 17th of May to Sun 19th. There were 25 of us who stayed and we found the staff to be very courteous, friendly and willing to help. The food was very good and served efficiently to us in our own dining room for our evening meal, breakfast was taken with other guests in the main dining room. The front of house appearance of the hotel was very pleasing but as other reviews have pointed out, some of the rooms and “back stage” areas are somewhat “tired”. This being said my own room was of a good standard and the linen and towels very clean. All in all I would said that this hotel is very good value for the money.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Clifton, we had a sea facing room on the second floor. The view across the channel was very good, we could see France! The hotel is old and our room was in need of a refurb,but it was clean and a decent size with a comfy bed. The public areas were good, I think they have been updated recently. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was continental and English self serve and was average. The breakfast room/restaurant was very pleasant with a view of some very nice gardens. In the evening it was a Marco Pierre White restaurant which I will review separately. There is also a Costa Coffee shop in the Ocean View bar area. The hotel location is good, within walking distance of the town and on the Lees walkway. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would use this hotel again. Parking in the evening is an issue with only limited spaces available near the hotel.

First of all, the staff was very friendly. The lounge, lobby and bar are very nice. The location is superb and you can park in front of the hotel. The room was good size but the bed was a nightmare! The other funny thing was, there is a Costa innside, but in the morning the coffee machine was out of service - maybe to prevent people from not having the hotel breakfast? Overall it was nice but I wouldn‘t go there again because of the bed, but that‘s just me, someone else might find it ok.

Stayed overnight before taking the ferry - cheap and old hotel with small room but does the job. Would not recommend more than a night's stay here. It'd be better staying in summer if you enjoy jogging with sea view.

I used my reward points to book this hotel. The location of the hotel is ideal overlooking the beach and just a 10 minute walk into the town centre and the harbour. The check in and check out process was quick and efficient. The decor of the room was quite drab and needed updating and the water pressure was poor in the shower. Other than that everything was fine and we had a good nights sleep.

Great location by the sea and 15 minutes away from the town center, okay food & beverages, tired rooms, terrible service, terrible night sleep. Barely slept as there is a night club with outside space just across the road, drunk people shouting and fighting until early morning. Staff not interested in their job, guests experience or hotel.

Nice clean hotel with most rooms having nice views, staff very helpful, bar meals very good, only draw back having to park outside hotel, aprt from that we enjoyed our stay prior of going to France, via Euro Tunnel

Stay for work. Fabulous hotel with great service. Breakfast is superb. Lovely bar to relax and with its new restaurant and public areas it really is a pleasure to stay here. Can thoroughly recommend if you're in Folkestone.

Typical seaside hotel. Our room was tiny along some winding corridors but nevertheless was clean and was good enough for a few nights. No problems whatsoever,staff were great and the buffet breakfast was plentiful. Lovely location overlooking the sea and only a few minutes from a range of bars and restaurants.

We travelled as a group of friends and stayed on Saturday and Sunday nights . We found the Clifton very clean and comfortable , the staff were welcoming and professional at all times .The general areas are well maintained , the Ocean Bleu bar very stylish but comfortable . We had breakfast in the restaurant , this has lovely views over the neighbouring gardens. The breakfast buffet is excellent with a large choice of cold and cooked dishes. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening but chose to go into town where there is good choice of restaurants. The area outside of the hotel (The Leas) is very nice with lovely sea views , we found Folkestone a pleasant surprise as a town with so much to see , much work is and has been done along with an ongoing contemporary art exhibition across the town . The harbour area and Fish Market are very interesting even though not totally completed. Transport in the town and area is excellent with frequent buses to all major local towns (Canterbury , Dover , Hythe etc.) We were all really pleased with our choice of town and The Clifton Hotel for our break.

Splendour Victoria room bay window overlooking the private garden and partially sea view from the room. Breakfast lots of variety and good hospitality. Good location easy walking to town centre and a long walk to harbour side. Area safe and quiet. We had a quiet sleep. Good size super king size mattress. Paid parking £3 all day. Will stay here again.

Absolutely fabulous hotel with great food and comfortable rooms lovely location right in on the sea and the booze is cheaper than one would expect. The entrainment was fabulous with a great cast and show. Highly recommend to anyone.

Visited this part of Kent to see afew attractions and chose The Clifton as it was reasonably priced. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and the registration process was quick and simple. Our room was on the 3rd floor, accessed by a VERY small lift or lots of stairs, as the rooms have very high ceilings. Room was very clean and comfortable with views over the rear lawns. The public areas, lounge, snack bar and bar are all very comfortable, although seating is at a premium if the hotel is busy. All in all a good place to stay in a covenient and central location.

Most disappointed with this, i took a cake to eat and my daughter noticed it had mold on,which we complained about, and was just given a plate of other things.Who lets things go out of a kitchen that are that stale.Very Bad.

A group of 10 were turned away, advised we'd be in for a very long wait because only had one person covering the bar and the coffee kiosk. Shame really good atmosphere otherwise. Best check the staffing before you get settled like we should have. We were waiting ages before being told but somewhere further along found somewhere with great service. They need to sort it out as nice in there otherwise.

Great location on the Leas with sea views. Wide choice of hot and cold food in the breakfast buffet. Good quality bar food as well as fine dining in the restaurant if preferred. Comfortable lounge on the ground floor.

Good but not very good. This is an old fashioned hotel in its appearance and fittings and a few improvements would be welcome. That said, I really like it for its spacious rooms and general air of comfort - for the price it is pretty good. I paid £72.50 a night for two of us including a full English breakfast. Our room had a sea view as well. The staff are polite, efficient and friendly. The restaurant has a celebrity chef name attached (Marco Pierre White) which raises expectations but, sadly, does not fulfil them. The food was fine, apart from 'French fries' which tasted like oven chips, but nothing special and the drinks were expensive. I would certainly stay here again but would eat and drink elsewhere in the evening. In fact this is our second visit so clearly we quite like it. It certainly matches the attractive old fashioned atmosphere of Folkestone itself.

Apart from the shower being so low on pressure you struggled to get wet everything else exceeded our expectations. We paid £40.40 for one night bed and breakfast so we were not expecting much, especially when we were given a room on the top floor, basically the roof. Wow what a suprise, even though we were next to the lift we did not here it, the room had a double and single bed and a Great view of the sea, good clean decor throughout and apart from squeaky floor boards very good.

We had booked a murder mystery night at the hotel and stayed that night and another night to make a full weekend of it. Very good decision on our part. We found the hotel to be great in all of the public areas and found our room spacious and well appointed. The food was excellent both for the event and the two breakfasts we had in the Marco Pierre White restaurant. We found the staff to be hard-working and very pleasant, and enjoyed the whole experience. This is an old hotel which does creak, has very small lifts (but it has lifts), and quite a steep entrance. But the area is charming, the views are great, you are beside the sea, and a short walk from the town centre. I was shocked how reasonably priced our room was, and would definitely stay again if in the area.

Beautiful hotel best in Folkestone! We returned and had a fabulous king room overlooking the beautiful sea The staff are all amazing , so welcoming,helpful and very professional especially Phillipa on reception . They do all they can to make your stay special. We had a gorgeous cream tea on arrival followed by the best steak dinner I have ever had in the Marco Pierre White restaurant there . The front of house man Shane is an asset to the Marco chain fantastic and so helpful and professional We will be returning in June Absolutely love this hotel ! Ps Have the scotch egg starter just wow !

Hotel is at the west end of Folkestone and offers rooms that overlook the sea and a large garden area. An old period building that has had some refurbishment and probably needs a bit more creaking floorboards and draughty windows but hey this is an old hotel with character. Our room was large and on the 2nd floor with views over the garden. A large 2 poster bed, settee and chair, flat screen tv and ample tea and coffee making facilities. Nice comfortable lounge areas provided with magazines, daily newspapers and sightseeing brochures. Coffee and or alcoholic drinks can be taken in the bar along with snacks and pastries. Also a plus is the superb Marco Pierre White restaurant which we have reviewed, Overall a pleasant stay.

We were going to France, but at the last minute decided not to do the journey in one go, so decided to stop the night in Folkestone where our Sunday night stay was exceptional value, especially as it included a cooked breakfast in their Marco Pierre White restaurant. After booking online, we got an email asking if we wanted to upgrade. After reading reviews of the rooms, we decided to upgrade to a park/sea view and a bit of extra room and weren't disappointed. However, it was very warm even with the window open and the heating on the lowest setting - (having said that, it was the week in February where there was a heatwave). I'm allergic to feathers, so the bedding had to be changed, which was done quickly, without any fuss. The room was very clean and well maintained, although getting into the shower was a bit of a squeeze. One thing we'd have liked were some sockets by the beds. At first glance, it seems the front reception door is up some stairs, but the receptionist did show us the disabled access we could have used. We parked around the corner for free – the hotel is at the very edge of the restrictions, so one street makes all the difference. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and even gave me (but not my husband) a welcome drink for being a Best Western customer. We had a walk into Folkestone harbour which was very pleasant. Hard to say how long it took as we stopped to look at things. Folkestone surprised us greatly and we will definitely be back for a longer stay to enjoy the town and explore the surrounding area. We have a couple of Marco Pierre White restaurants near to where we live, so decided not to eat in the hotel, but found a wonderful Nepalese restaurant, Annapurna, nearby and would highly recommend going.

We were very disappointed to find that the floor in the bedroom looked very unstable. I was also extremely shocked to find two cockroach traps in the bathroom, thankfully we did not see any cockroaches!! Consequently we asked to be moved to another room. Both rooms needed updating and both bathrooms needed a complete refit, the shower was just a trickle. The staff at reception were helpful and understanding. We booked to have dinner in the restaurant and the meal did not reach the standard I was expecting from a Marco Pierre White Restaurant. I ordered a steak in ale pie and the crust was burnt and totally inedible. After waiting a considerable time, we decided to leave the restaurant, nobody came to clear the table or to ask if we required a dessert or coffee........very very disappointing. The room was booked through Booking.com and although reasonably priced we expected more from a Best Western Hotel. Due to our experiences we will not be rushing back to stay at this hotel.

I stayed here for one night and ran a meeting here for one day. Only the public areas seem to have had a refurbishment recently the bedrooms and Meeting rooms are poor. My room was on the 4th floor the lifts are very small and claustrophobic- this is definitely to do with the nature of the building but worth a mention. The bed needs replacing, it was lumpy and had bulges on the base too. The bathroom was small and brown. A towel heater that couldn't be turned off in there was further annoyance. The room wasn't clean you will see the hair on the bath and general level of cleanliness on the taps. You will also see that there was a bottle behind the bedside table - not mine! It's where the plug is near the bed so you would expect people these days to be behind there to plug charges in. Restaurant staff were lovely in the evening but SO rude in the daytime. Cafe staff were pleasant. The meeting room we used had no lock so not great for security. There was no briefing or staff for the meeting room, we had to ask at reception for even basic information. Biscuits and coffee were poor and served with a snarl. Our refreshments were eaten by other people in the hotel too, so no signs or care being taken. The facilities in the meeting room need replacement- the screen was hanging off at the top. The extension leads weren't long enough to move the projector to fill more of the screen. Not all the power points worked in the room. We booked on the suggestion of a local and I'm frankly a bit embarrassed about taking customers there. Really not set up to take business customers. Not clean in the bedrooms - colleague agreed. Staff rude at times. No parking although local car park not far away staff need to have better explanations of parking options- they suggested to park for free until 8am then get a space in front of hotel but that wasn't great advice as that would have cost £3 and staying in car Park all night and next day was only £4! I try not to write awful reviews but this hotel needs care and attention.

The public areas have been recently renovated however the bedrooms are still very poor. Breakfast is good but Sunday lunch does't live up to the Marco Pierre White reputation - poor and very overcooked roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding which were clearly precooked frozen cheap shop type

The hotel is amazing, the staff are helpful and very friendly. The view from our room was fantastic. We stayed on 2nd and 3rd February 2019 for a weekend away, the walks and views were stunning. Folkestone town seems to close early, could be the time of year.

I've stayed here a few times, and the Clifton is a really nice hotel. All the rooms I've stayed in have been comfortable. It's an old hotel so some of the rooms maybe have dated decor, but personally I think it adds to the character. The staff are what really makes the Clifton shine though. Martini, the American front of house host is really helpful, both in recommendations for the local area and also for the rules of English sports! I have no idea about cricket or rugby, but ask him and he'll be able to explain both! The twins, Christina and Andre are both great, as is Phillipa, who never fails to remind me if I've forgotten anything before I leave. Breakfast is headed up by Maj and Terri, who do a cracking job making sure the buffet is filled and tables cleaned. Breakfast itself is a buffet style with pretty much everything you can think of. The Marco Pierre White restaurant is excellent too, all the servers have a really good knowledge of the menu and the hosts always welcome you in a friendly and professional manner. Overall a lovely place to stay.

I live and work locally to the Clifton Hotel and I am a frequent guest. I often meet friends for lunch or coffee every couple of weeks or so. A few weeks ago I booked for my husband and I to stay overnight as a treat as it was our wedding anniversary even though we live 15 minutes away. The price was a bargain at a cost of £60 due to Groupon offers. We were given the most amazing room with views of the garden and sea. In addition we were given a voucher to eat at the Marco Pierre Steak Restaurant at a discounted price. We enjoyed the cocktails from the bar – very nice. The meal was amazing especially the T Bone Steak and very affordable due to the voucher. Breakfast at the hotel is really good with lots of choice and variety. Although I was so full from the meal the night before I could only manage one slice of toast! We felt so looked after and spoilt over the weekend and this was down to the lovely manager Zaida. What a happy, welcoming and helpful lady. She couldn't do enough for us and went out of her way to ensure we were being well looked after. In fact all the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive. We had such a wonderful weekend. Thank you to all the staff. As for my lunch time visits I am always welcomed by the very friendly and helpful Philippa. Nothing is ever too much trouble and she goes out of her way to help. She is an excellent front of house for the hotel and is an asset to the hotel with her positive and happy welcome. The waiting staff are always so friendly and they even try and find out what soup is on the menu if they see me arriving at the hotel because they know I like soup. If I was to be really picky the only thing I think could be improved upon is the service. Sometimes it can be a bit slow and certainly was the night we dined in the Marco Pierre Steak Restaurant. That night it didn't matter as we were staying at the hotel. Just something to consider and a piece of constructive feedback. The hotel has done so well in its transformation and I can't sing its praises enough. Keep up the good work! 5 stars all the way!

Hotel & staff andre' martin & Philipa are a great asset to this beautiful hotel, they are so helpful. breakfast great and good quality. Bar staff also really friendly. This hotel exceeds every time. A lovely stay.

We went to Clifton hotel for a break for the weekend, we arrived at the hotel on Friday mid afternoon, the reception was manned by Martin, we were checked in very quickly and went straight to our room, the room was a bit dated but not too bad, the bed was comfortable, room 120 is the last room on the front elevation,next to the sea, we had a slight problem of finding it as it was next to room 101, but we soon worked out the numeral confusion, we went for dinner in the Marco Pierre White restaurant, that was a really nice meal at an affordable price.10/10, Sophie the waitress was very good, she was an exceptional server, she helped us through the menu and gave us recommendations. We went to bed at 10:30pm, but was woken up by a rowdy crowd shouting outside, I looked out the window and realised there was a nightclub straight across from us, this went on until the early hours of Saturday, we went to breakfast in the same restaurant at about 09:15am, we would recommend it, help yourself buffet with all the ingredients of an English breakfast or a continental, lashings of fruit, cereal, cakes, yogurt, orange and apple juices, the list goes on, to top it off, they had Maj who seemed to never take his eyes off the ball, he was replenishing all the buffet, clearing tables, checking in guests and showing them to their tables and explaining what to do, Maj was incredible. Overall our visit was a pleasant stay, just the noisy neighbours which was out of the hands of the Clifton hotel.

Revamped hotel, rooms clean comfy bed, warm setting. However, the rooms can be a bit ott on the pricing. Staff really friendly. Breakfast they offer well worth it delicious, excellent value for money. I would go there just for breakfast alone. YUM. So much choice. I've stayed here a few times and never experienced any problems. Would recommend

I am a Best western Gold member but received no recognition whatsoever of this ay reception. My stay was on a Friday night but the Marco Pierre White restaurant - a big selling point was closed!I have stayed in a number of Best Western hotels in the USA and France where the service is much better.

My husband and I were out and about, firstly stopping in Hythe, only to be told our kitchen is being refurbished- thanks for that, you did us a great favour, as we moved onto Folkestone rapidly, a quick glance at the menu and in we went, certainly not disappointed here, ocean Bleu bar, inside the Best Western Clifton, also they have a Marco Pierre White restaurant, we will be back.

my first visit yesterday and so glad I went. Absolutely delicious afternoon tea, not skimpy in the portions either. Hot, freshly baked scone, lashings of cream, perfect assortment of sandwiches and cakes, lovely atmosphere/setting and VERY reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

Have been staying at the clifton whilst working in folkestone,a year has passed and have seen considerable work done to the hotel. The reception area looks very nice,and phillipa and martin will make you feel very welcome.The bar area has been refurbished to a high standard, and the staff are helpful and polite.The new Marco Pierre white restaurant looks Great,and the food is very good, especially the steak!! The staff again are all helpful. The rooms are a little dated,but I'm staying in one at the moment that has been fully refurbished,and the standard of finish is very good, and will come into line with the rest of the hotel.

Breakfast was lovely and the downstairs of the hotel was a delight. Rooms were adequate if somewhat dated in decor but nice sizes and with a sea view it was a very good value stay. Third floor room, radiator off, both windows wide open all night and still like a sauna! If you like heat you'll love it!

Lovely afternoon tea and cakes. The hotel features nice surroundings and relaxed front lounge. Sandwiches and cakes on the day were fresh and tasty, only down side was that they took nearly an hour to arrive after we sere seated.

Stayed here for the night to celebrate a birthday. Had a great night sleep, although the room needs up dating (which they are in the process of doing). The staff were really good. We know the area well but if you don't it is only a short walk to the town, an ideal walk along the top of the Lees and plenty of bars/restaurants to choose from.

We needed a location near the centre of Folkestone from which we could attend the church and wake on foot. The hotel was in a perfect spot and at a good price for our need. The location also meant we could walk the Lees and frontage of the town. The room was a little old fashioned but very clean and functional and provided everything we wanted at good value. We were able to get a deal for the nights we wanted with breakfast, which had a good choice.

The ground floor of this hotel houses a Marco Pierre White restaurant and nice bar area which we have used before and were expecting a similar standard from the rooms. However I was not so happy with the rooms which I felt was really only at the standard of OK. They were clean and functional but quite basic and somewhat dated. The breakfast was good although they were struggling to keep up with demand. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

This hotel is one of those that has a nice ground floor, apparently good restaurants (although we did not try them), attentive staff but when you go upstairs to your room, you fall in a timewarp back to the seventies. The room was OK but in need of refurbishment and modernising. We visited for just an overnight stay, no breakfast as we were going to France via Eurotunnel that morning. For this purpose, the hotel was absolutely fine and the price was good too. One last thing: the room numbering on the first floor caused us to scratch our heads a few times. We had 2 rooms booked and it took quite a few attempts to find them. A room plan should be displayed so you can locate your room easier.

Went in to have a coffee and a cake in the small lounge area, the decor was lovely however the staff need replenishing. Waited for 20 minutes for someone to come to the coffee bar to serve. A woman who worked at the hotel, wondered past, didn't say anything or tell anyone we were waiting. No staff were in sight and then when we had to go find someone to serve they were standing around chatting. Someone came down to serve, and still waited 15 minutes to make two cups of tea and two coffees when it is just a case of pressing a button. The worst service ever, awful staff ruins the place.

Nice hotel for 2 nights. Very quiet, good beds. A bit old interior but clean. No safe in the room, no fridge. Reception a bit dry but not unfriendly. But the very best is the restaurant!!! Really good food! And the people who work there also very friendly! We were in the 2+2 room and we get one extra bed, so we could stay in one room, what is really goed. Very often we have to take two rooms and me and my husband need to spend holidays in separate rooms, like a family of 3 kids an unicum is. Nice hotel! Really nice. There is no private parking and it is difficult to find a place to park at the evening. And also really beautiful place at the sea. I wish I will come back.

We visit every few months to see family but seems the refurb -apart from the ground floor-is still no further forward! Bedrooms are ok but ready for updating! Staff are friendly especially Matthew in the bar!!

We have just returned form a 3 night Christmas break at the Clifton and can only say that it was lovely. We had a room overlooking the sea, more food than we could eat and friendly staff. It was the first time that we had booked a trip like this and we were a little apprehensive, we needn't have been. From the moment we arrived to the time we left we were looked after by helpful, friendly staff. Our room was as you would expect for the age of the hotel and overlooked the sea - perfect! Waiting for us in the room on our arrival was a hamper full of Christmas goodies, an unexpected treat. The room had everything you needed, including a full sized bath. The food was plentiful, well presented, a good selection and very tasty. The entertainment was low key, which was perfect for us. A thoroughly lovely time, did not want it to end! We will definitely come back.

A large group of us travelled down to Folkestone to attend a family wedding on the 8th of Dec. I booked a family room for my wife & children also a double room for my mother & father in law, both rooms were faultless, clean tidy with a sea views. Reception, bar staff & waiters were all polite, kind & very helpful. The morning breakfast was exactly what we needed before our journey back to Hertfordshire. Thank you for making our short stay so enjoyable, we will return.

Small details such as hook in bathroom was snapped off leaving sharp edge soap dispenser was broken card board wedged in Windows but they still rattled .downstairs is plush and very nice with refurbishment of restaurant parking is a real problem if you arrive mid evening

This place was not our 1st choice & we were VERY disappointed from beginning We were a party of 16 & the rooms were split into 2 small rooms 1 had a very noisy party of girls & ours had the postage stamp (I am being generous) dance floor when each time the party in next room came in they completely filled it so no one else could dance, it also had the food which was a buffet when we were given the impression it would be served to us, & our tables were split in 2 the other table being tucked into the bay window so we could not speak to each other when we queried this with the manageress she said it was the only way they could do it & apologised I also said had we known this would have been the layout we would not have booked again a mumbled apology was given.The meat was advertised as kentish sirloin in reality it was slices of overdone cheap cut of beef in gravy same with the turkey the sprouts were raw & could have been used as weapons,& as for the roast potatoes they were dry & barely roasted for dessert I ordered fresh fruit salad with honey comb ice cream it was vanilla ice cream with lumps of honeycomb mixed in & chopped up bits of melon if it had not been for the fact the food was hot (mainly because we were 1st table up) we probably would have demanded our money back & left there & then. The Disco was rubbish as he seemed the more interested in the female party from next door who as I said earlier they monopolised the floor every 10mins. All in all it was a very disappointing evening 1 that will NEVER be repeated or recommended.

Enjoyed a very nice meal in the MPW restaurant on Fri 21st two of our part had steak which the sad was very good,the other two had the fish cakes that were slalom very good. The staff were excellent,all the staff in the Clifton are always very friendly and helpful they are a huge asset ..

Great value hotel. Fantastic location and lovely staff. The public areas are a delight and food in the hotel is very good . Bedrooms are older but the beds were comfortable and the facilities were very clean. Amazing breakfast choices . Would recommend.

We stayed on Saturday it was cheap enough for off season, the common areas of the hotel are very nice the breakfast was ok for roughly £12 per head. The staff are pleasant , the room is dated that's ok didn't mind that.... but the bed, bedding and pillows were awful I didn't sleep all night the bed tilted backwards and the mattress was appalling, the pillows were as thin as napkins even both folded over didn't make one decent pillow I ended up with backache and neck ache when I told receptionist she just said sorry that was it! We were a party of 8 2 had good beds 2 had bad when you stay in a hotel the bed is the most important part if the that's rubbish it makes the stay rubbish

It is so disappointing that I find myself having to write this review. We stayed on Sunday 25th Nov. on our way to Belguim. With a Groupon deal - dinner, bed & breakfast. We were given a lovely welcome, our room was spacious, very clean and very comfortable. The service in the restaurant was efficient, attentive and the food in the Marco Pierre White restaurant was excellent. Everything so good in fact when we reached our destination in Belguim we bought another Groupon voucher to return to The Clifton the following Thursday on our way home. What a mistake! We were met by the same friendly, helpful blonde receptionist, who very kindly allowed us to check in early, but everything after that went down hill rapidly. We had an average lunch in the bar with very cloudy beer. We were made aware very quickly why things were very different! The staff were running around like headless chickens preparing for the arrival of Marco Pierre White the following day. In the evening we waited 50 minutes for our starters to arrive. Three different people took our drinks order and they still arrived separately. It was not until the lovely Marie took charge of our meal that things improved. Breakfast, of course, was on the day of Marco's anticipated arrival - need I say more. What a great pity.

Just had 2 night stay & I've got to say I read some of the poor reviews so was a bit apprehensive, but was quite impressed all round. The staff were friendly & helpful. The room, although was a bit tired, it was clean & large with all needed facilities like ironing board, hair dryer etc. Separate shower & bath in again a very large En-suite. Really cannot fault it. Piano bar was great, never tried the restaurant while we were there but will definitely have to give it a try next time. We had a good experience & would recommend.

We used the hotel as the base for our 2 day staff training event and the service we received was spot on. The staff were extremely helpful throughout and the catering was excellent. We would be very happy to return in the future.

The common area of the hotel looks amazing and a good job has certainly been done renovating this. However, I was very dissapointed with the room. The decor was very dated and the bathroom suite was a shade of green I thought was left in the 70s. The extractor fan from the bathroom turned on every time the light was turned on an woke my partner as it was so loud. It was also impossible to get a reasonable water temperature for showering as once set it continually fluctuated between warm and scolding hot! Would recommend for somewhere cheap to stay if in the area.

Room a bit dated, especially the bathroom, but refurbishment is ongoing, so this should improve. Only there for one night, but no complaints as the price was very reasonable. Bathroom had a steep step going down to it, which I managed to fall down twice, despite all the warning notices!!

I have stayed at this hotel a few time now and find it great, staff very friendly and helpful food good if I am in this area I will always book the Clifton hotel the rooms a comfortable and clean great hotel

Newly refurbished, the Clifton makes the most of its prime location on Folkestone's classically stylish Leas. Warm welcome from the friendly and professional staff. Comfortable public areas and an excellent bar. Tempting patisserie is a thoughtful addition - naughty but nice... Rooms are light and airy mostly with sea views. All in all a great destination for travellers. And best of all, it features a Marco Pierre White restaurant that more than meets his exacting criteria. (see separate review).

The staff were so accommodating and helpful, they went the extra mile. The hotel was clean, warm and friendly. The price was very reasonable. A wonderful stay and I would recommend it, without hesitation.

We only stayed one night but we had a wonderful stay - huge room with good bathroom and the staff were all so friendly and helpful. We had to miss breakfast as we were up before dawn to join the Armistice events. It's a fine building and a great location. Really excellent value for money.

Stayed overnight following a murder mystery event. Lovely evening, great fun, hotel has been/is being renovated, our room on 3rd floor was clean, comfortable and newly decorated. Walk on the beach in the morning followed by a very nice breakfast. Will be returning, never been to Folkestone before but we'll be back

I stayed here when I had an interview in Folkestone. I had expected it to be adequate possibly cheap and cheerful , a bit tired and frayed around the edges type of hotel. I asked a local resident for directions and he told me the hotel had just had a refurbishment. This made me think my previous fears may of been true , but I was pleased to hear I was to be staying at a hotel recently refurbished. On checking in I was greeted by a receptionist who was both helpful , friendly and professional. My room was small but very tastefully decorated, it looked out onto a panorama of the English Channel. It was a little hot but opening the window sorted this out. The bathroom was clean and modern and had nice toiletries to use when showering. I also noticed a fan and a traditional easy to use iron and ironing board. The hotel impressively contained a Marco Pierre White steak house restaurant and a coffee shop. The hotel bar was very smart with knowledgeable staff who on my visit served me a couple of beautiful cocktails made with Sloe Berries. In better weather you could also drink outside on a patio overlooking the promenade and sea. The breakfast room , adjacent to gardens , was clean and tastefully decorated, the breakfast was quality and the staff friendly without being obtrusive. The hotel is well situated for other restaurants should you choose to eat elsewhere , there was an Italian or Greek restaurant next door to the hotel. A Pizza takeaway 5 mins walk away and a couple of great bars The Chambers , Radnor Arms, Bouverie and Firkin ale house 5-10 mins walk away. The station is a 15 minute stroll up leafy Castle Hill Road. I was surprised , I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely return if I am ever in Folkestone. I would highly recommend a stay at The Clifton, its great value.

stayed here on a friday night, on arrival the receptionist, (male, maybe American) greeted us with a smile and some banter, fantastic start....the reception room and restaurant were luxurious and welcoming, the room was adequate with 2 beds, clean, tidy and warm, breakfast sat morning was a buffet, with full monty ingredients and continental meats, cheese and pastries. all of good quality and volume,had a drink in the bar at night, very nice decor and service, all staff were polite and smiley, brilliant place to stay, my wife and i will return to this place...thanks...

I used this hotel as a base while exploring the surrounding castles (Dover, Walmer & Deal). It was nice for the price and the wifi worked well in the room. l had ocean views & when it was clear l could see France. All day parking costs £3 & breakfast is additional £10 per person. There are plenty of places in town & McDonald's 10mins walk if you don't want to pay £10 each for breakfast. The rooms were a little outdated but not a big deal for the price of the room.

Second visit to this hotel. Great location, easy to park (at a cost of £3 per day),leave the car and jump on the bus to go to places. Walking distance to town centre, shops, bars, restaurants etc. Room was OK but the bathroom was tiny this time. Any more than an average person (no offence to anyone) would not be able to use the loo! Towels, toiletries all good. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Nice view of the gardens. Room was also very hot (although the weather outside was very cold) and the old sash window hard to open. Lift incredibly small and seems a bit rickety but we were only on the first floor so used the stairs once we had dropped the cases. Nicely furnished lounge, bar, public spaces. New addition of Marco Pierre White themed restaurant. Loved the big black and white chair! Good buffet breakfast with squirrel watching included for free!. Costa Coffee a bonus. We had lovely, friendly staff. Will visit again for next family occasion.

the hotel has been refurbished it seems and has set a new standard. excellent staff and service all round. Clean and well furnished rooms, excellent and helpful staff. one very small point the lift has seen better days but cant really complain would recommend it any time.Forgot to mention a new restaurant and inhouse coffe shop (costa)

Stayed here the night of the 23rd Every thing was fine. Booking in was a breeze. Staff helpful and friendly. Untill breakfast. The wife and myself went for breakfast at approximately 7 o'clock. No one at the door so we looked for a table. Next thing we new a waiter came over to us and snapped at us. Asking what we were doing. I told him are room number and he said you had better sit there then. Pointing at a table. I said to him my son and his fiancée will be down soon to join us. Who were also staying at the hotel. After a roll of his eyes and disgusting look he said well sit there then. Pointing at another table. After about five minutes my son came in and over to our table. The waiter came over to them and snapped at them as he did us. Saying what are you doing. Again we explained. After the roll of the eyes again and the tut he walked off. Next thing my son got a nose bleed. Just a small one I might add. So I went and asked the waiter for a small plastic bag to put the tissues in I suppose I could look for one was his reply. And he trundled of muttering only to reappear 2 minutes later with no bag and totally ignoring us. This upset my son as he was embarrassed about the nose bleed as it was so he said he didn't want any breakfast and got up and left. Without even a cup of coffee. This was such a disappointment as the rest off the staff where very pleasant and helpful.

Stayed here overnight both ways en route to France for a short break. The hotel is in a lovely location. We received a really warm welcome at Reception and we were allocated a lovely big room with a big bathroom and fabulous sea view. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment, the public areas are complete and the new decor is fabulous. On the first evening we had dinner in their Marco Pierre White restaurant. Service was good and the food was excellent; again the staff were super. We ate breakfast in the new conservatory part of the restaurant, overlooking the garden behind the hotel, which was so peaceful and beautiful. On the evening of our returning stay we ate from the bar menu in the Oceanbleu bar, which is absolutely stunning. Food and service were excellent again. Although the hotel does not have it's own car park there is public parking outside and the hotel can arrange electronically resident parking at £3 from arrival time until 12 noon next day. Would certainly return to this hotel, it was an absolute pleasure to stay here. Thanks to all the staff.

Upgraded room was OK, but turned out a bit pricey for the size of room. Amenities in the room were good, large bathroom (as big as the room|) and sea view. Nice restaurant (Marco Pierre White). Not too pricey considering the named restaurant, good décor and good breakfast. Well positioned just opposite the Leas Cliff Hall and on the Leas. Coffee shop (Costa) and nice bar area. Vey small lift!

Stay here as we was racing at lydden hill my room was small bang my knee on the wall to may times at night could not move the single bed away from wall and it was a short bed feet hanging out of bottom of bed so not much sleep could not use the toilet with out putting my foot in the shower towel rail did not work no extra pillows on a good point veiw of the sea was great and bar staff was great happy and even remember the drinks we had even with loads of other people there

Went yesterday for afternoon tea it was pretty poor, scones were rock hard and impossible to cut, the sandwiches were ok but cakes disappointing. Second pot of tea was rather weak. We weren't the only one's to complain about the scones. Staff are great and the waiter looking after us was very apologetic. Not the first time we have been here but will think twice before booking again.

Welllll, i have had many an afternoon tea,some good some bad and this rates up there with one of the worst ! Staff were great but oh dear,what a pathetic excuse for an afternoon tea.probably half a sandwich each,hardly any filling. 2 flat scones,one of which was so hard we couldn't eat it.the most depressing looking cakes ive had the misfortune to witness,soggy,tasteless and sparse! 1 tiny pot of cream between us,no butter helped ourselves to jam..Tea was fine,coffee cheap.Guy who looked after us was great and was visibly embarrassed at the state of the scone i showed him..NEVER again,shame as the hotel is beuatiful

My friend paid for me and her as a treat to attend an afternoon tea at this hotel. Would I recommend NO! On arrival asked the Canadian/American receptionist about parking ....one word for him RUDE! He really needs to be sent on a customer relations course. Finally got seated knowing we were going one would of thought they would have been prepared NO! We were told to chose a table in the bar area not ideal but hey! We chose our seat and the waitress then came and cleaned the table and asked us to move so she could lay up! Finally the tea arrived two pots one jug of milk. Tea was ok then the main part ! Well least said I suppose but here goes. The sandwiches scones and ‘homemade cakes' .... that's a term I would use very very loosely as they were no more homemade than Christmas in July! The bread with the salmon and cream cheese was hard, the scones well when you tried to cut them just crumbled and broke where they were so so hard and as mentioned what is advertised as ‘homrmade Cakes' were ummm yuk! The only thing salvageable were the shop bought macaroons! My friend had paid for four guests and as coupon was almost expired or two other guests were unable to attend so we thought be good to take them home their ‘afternoon tea. When we asked for it it was like but there's only two of you my friend explained she had paid for four and wanted four afternoon teas why we bothered is absolutely beyond me During the time we sat there no one checked if we werenok if we wanted more tea or even water too too up' The reason I gave it a three rather than a one was the views and the actual decor. Have been to many best westerns for afternoon tea ... Folkestone you are sadly very very poor relatives compared to the others and really need to up your game

Stayed here recently for 2 nights. Staff were lovely, especially Maya in the restaurant for breakfast. The hotel has recently been renovated and has been really well done, we stayed in a recently renovated room which was lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Very good hotel vey helpful staff and great views of France which always impresses me. Very goog disabled access although the smokers tend to hover around the main disabled access and at times we have found ourselves having to wait for them to finish before gaining access into the hotel.

We have been here twice now and frankly I don't think Marco Pierre White has done the Clifton any favours by putting his name to it. He hasn't even been to the restaurant but the prices reflect his name. Our first visit was for Sunday lunch was faultless. Everything was freshly cooked and as we asked for the beef to be rare the chef cooked steak for us as the roast beef was well cooked. However our second visit was on a Tuesday and a special occasion. This meal was overpriced for what it was. The mixed grill was in a small dish with nowhere to cut the meat. The burger was edible but nothing special and the chicken was beautifully cooked but once again overpriced. Surely if a top chef puts his name to a place he should protect his reputation by visiting and guiding the staff to his expectations.

Great location on Folkestone leas. Our room was very clean, spacious and light. We had views of the English Channel and the bandstand located on the lead. Very attentive staff, overall, a pleasant place to stay.

Hotel was excellent. Staff courteous friendly and helpful. Room and bed extremely comfortable . Food very good in the Ocean Blue bar but the icing on the cake was the Marco Pierre White restraint where the ambience food and service was superb. All in all a very happy stay.

As a single traveller I am often given a very small room.......not so here. I requested and was given a sea-view room and have to say that it was excellent. It had a comfortable bed and a very good quality television. Breakfast was also very good. The only drawback was the parking situation. I had to park on every occasion about 10 minutes away, Ok for me but not maybe for everyone. Nice clean place and excellent staff. To be praised all round. I shall certainly go back.

We booked the Clifton because of its situation just across the road from the Lees cliffs centre. It says in the hotel information that it has recently been refurbished. Well perhaps it has but I don't think all the rooms got to be renovated. Our room was on the third floor at the front of the hotel. The room was comfortable but the furniture needed updating as it was quite tiered looking . The bathroom was serviceable but but again needed updating. The lift to all floors in this part of the hotel was very small and not the most pleasant to use if your claustrophobic. Most of the staff were helpful but not all. I found that some of the staff at breakfast were not as helpful as they could have been. On both days we had to ask for coffee more than once. The food was ok but they had trouble supplying it all at the same time and we had to wait for eggs or bacon as it ran out . I can't say the it was busy in the restaurant so I'm not sure why they had a problem. All in all I can't say it was an unpleasant stay but it could have been better. Will I stay here again, I'm not sure........

At the point of booking we had booked a so called executive suite, in my opinion there was nothing executive about the room at all. Our room was right opposite a very noisy bar with loud people and music till at least 1am. Breakfast was a little to be desired, under staffed and quite disorganised, they had run out of bacon and sausages, then ran out of orange juice. In all quite disappointing.

This is the absaloute best hotel you can stay at in Folkestone. The staff are beyond helpful and will bend over backwards to ensure you have everything you need. One staff member who sticks out in my mind was Logesh behind the bar, who was supremely knowledgeable and curtious. I spoke with him and new staff member Sarah for a good while and found them to be knowledgeable and good company. 10/10 Will visit again.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely king room with a stunning sea view. The staff were brilliant,Phillipa on reception ,Manos in the bar and Shane and Matt in the new amazing Marco Pierre White restaurant were all so professional ,friendly and so very helpful .They made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely time there. The food in the new Marco Pierre White Restaurant was absolutely beautiful ! We will be returning again soon What a lovely place this is . We would highly recommend

Had a 3 night stay at the Best Western Cliffton Hotel, Staff very welcoming and helpful. Good breakfast, pleasant reception area. Our room up in the eve's was pretty dated and the shower bath could have been antique. The lift tiny 2 people or 1 with luggage the inner doors kept closing on you while trying to get out, hopefully been repaired now. The sea view from the room was great. We would stay again but would prefer a more modern room.

Excellent location for those attending Lees Cliff Hall for a function.....Ideal for a promenade on the Leas.......Parking can be a bit of a lottery ....We were lucky......Staff very friendly............Downstairs is excellent........Lift to 4th floor rather small and slow.....Our standard room was perfectly adequate.........If staying more than 2 days would enquire about a superior room.........We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.....

A very pleasant welcome from Reception for our visit to our wonderfully well-equipped large room. The hotel has recently been re-equipped with a beautiful dining room and bar area. Whilst we were there we noticed that further building work was still in progress and it will be exciting to see how the hotel has been improved on our next visit.

Great location and fabulous staff. The hotel is in need of a face lift would be the only complaint. It was clean and well worth the price. Breakfast was awesome. With a buffet that was plenty for our group.
