« Ladies and the Ladybirds »

Booked an overnight stay in this hotel for a break for my mother, myself and my daughter so we could have a bit of girly time together. On arrival at the hotel, we were impressed with the entrance and general appearance. Things kind of went downhill after that. The booking was made for two adults and a child. We were directed to our room and opened the door to a smart looking room which was great apart from the fact the third bed was missing. A walk to the reception and the very apologetic receptionist asked if a Z bed would be ok for us but our booking did specify a sofa bed so i requested that. After 5 minutes or so the receptionist said she was relieved to offer us an alternative room (16) with the sofa bed and someone would be along soon to make it up. Whilst waiting we went to sample the delights of the spa. The spa receptionist was very welcoming. The pool was small and was about chest deep and a good temperature. We alternated between that and the small sauna. No jacuzzi which was a little disappointing. £1 returnable deposit on the lockers. The changing rooms were small and rather tired. On arrival back at our room the sofa bed remained as we had left it and had not been made up. We decided against eating on the premises as there was an evening event on and it was fairly busy so we did a bit of googling to find a nearby eaterie. My daughter commented on the fact there was a ladybird on the wall and then noticed another. She then pointed out a whole bunch of them in the corner and then we spotted more around the window frames and in other corners!Another trip to reception where the receptionist offered to come to the room to personally hoover them away and also to make up the sofa bed. Thumbs up to that lady! We went out whilst she did battle with the ladybirds. On return a lot of the ladybirds had gone but some remained around the frames and over the wardrobe and as we were now tired, they spent the night with us. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was ok but the bath looked a bit grimy (it was enamel so it may have been the natural wear on it) Shower was amusing as the pressure kept coming and going so it was a kind of pulsating event. As we were moved to the room at short notice there were only two cups/milk, and only two bath towels. I didn't have the will to go to reception a third time to ask for more supplies. Breakfast was delicious with lots of variety at the buffet. We were seated quickly and served our drinks promptly. The views outside were amazing as there had been a hard frost and everything had a beautiful white frosting. My daughter loved it and thought it looked really Christmassy. Overall I was rather disappointed in the initial mix up with the booking and even though I'm not a squeamish person, I was a bit a bit grossed out by the volume of our unwelcome ladyfriends. However having a sense of humour helped and we were determined to make the best of our stay. The exterior appearance and attentive staff are the best things about this hotel. The room allocation and cleanliness need work though. I wish I could say I would visit again - but I fear the ladybirds have won - they can have the room all to themselves. (best check they have enough beds though) :)

    « Weekend stay »

We stayed here with friends for a weekend including afternoon tea and prossecco. Our rooms were called Apple and Cherry, sounds nice doesn't it? They weren't.The bathrooms were terrible and the bedrooms were very dated. At times we didn't have hot water and then when we did we couldn't regulate it. The showerhead flew off it's bracket and soaked everything including my husband. Our friends had no water at all, so had to shower in our room and they were sure there was something in their bed as they were itching all night. After reading about dust mites in another review it makes me wonder. They were moved to a better room the next day. The afternoon tea only had cakes which were a cut down version of the previous night's desserts and we had to ask for our prossecco. When we booked out we were told our rooms were being taken out of service because there had been plumbing problems all week. SO WHY HAD WE BEEN PUT IN THEM AT ALL? We were given a free evening meal but our weekend was truly spoiled by the standard supplied. I would think twice before booking with this hotel group again

« NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED »

Booked through a Groupon offer (dinner, bed and breakfast for £99 with use of spa facilities). Hotel was impressive on arrival and we felt pleased with our choice. We were allocated a room on the first floor but, due to a plumbing issue, we chose to move to a second room. In fairness, both rooms were clean but extremely dated and in serious need of refurbishment. The old sash windows were rotten and could not be opened - in the morning the condensation was running down them and pooling at the bottom and they had the appearance of frosted glass (it was a particularly cold night to be fair). I ordered a morning paper (at a price) and ended up with a totally different paper which wasn't charged due to the error. I normally stay in a chain of hotels where the morning paper is complimentary and you actually get the one(s) ordered. The saving grace was that the food was very good - three course dinner and self service 'buffet style' Welsh breakfast. Would I stay here again ? Having read previous reports I think I probably would but only after the 'ongoing' renovation work (according to the manager) had been completed. There are far better hotels available in the area for the same rates.

    « Llyndir Hall »

Visited here with friends for a spa break. Beautiful setting - good value for money. Pool is rather small but wasn't a problem. We only paid £69 which included dinner bed and breakfast and a spa treatment. Food was very good - plenty of choice on the menu. Highly recommended.

    « Wonderful Experience »

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend at Llyndir Hall Hotel Rossett, where we decided to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Thanks to the friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble and on entering our room, we were greeted with a congratulation message, chocolates and a chilled bottle of proscecco, on the house!! On our last evening on our anniversary we were surprised to learn that we had been upgraded to the bridal suite, which was beautifully presented and for us, was the icing on the cake. We will definitely rate this Hotel as a top notch place to stay. Regards John & Sue Lovatt (North Wales)

    « Business Lunch »

Excellent. Can't praise the food at this event enough. There was a hot and cold buffet, beautifully presented with staff on hand to assist at all times. For the hot part of the buffet, there was a great curry with rice or a choice of either fish and chips or burger and chips - but not as you'd know them, they were small sizes. Personally I went for the curry but those who had the fish and burgers were just as happy. This was followed by cake for those of us who like to indulge or a good selection of fresh fruit. Usually at corporate events the catering can be a little 'hit and miss' but this was excellent. Compliments to the chef and his team.

« Not the BEST Western »

I've stayed in a lot of Best Westerns over many years of travelling for work and pleasure. They're never QUITE as good as they look.... Llyndir Hall looks lovely as you drive up, very typical of a grand venue in the Chester area, feels very Footballers Wives-ey. I've stayed a couple of times before and there always seems to be a wedding on. But that's fine (although, after a long day's work, not always ideal to sit in the room at 11pm listening to the base line of Sweet Caroline...).... Upstairs could do with a facelift. The rooms are comfy, the beds are huge, but it's starting to feel 15 years out of date. Breakfast was ok. Standard buffet, scrambled eggs didn't taste of anything, and the usual toast machine shenanigans of not being able to get it right (slightly warm or carbon). I'll be back, and I don't have a problem with that at all, as it'll be paid for by work, but just think it could do with a bit of an investment in a refurb.

« Pleasant & Relaxing Break in Tranquil Surroundings »

Short two night break for a relax and to re-charge the batteries ! This Hotel was in a very peaceful and tranquil country setting. All of the staff were pleasant throughout our stay. I found the staff on reception particularly friendly , welcoming and informative. Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated. The hotel appeared clean throughout. The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice in a bright and spacious restaurant area , with plenty of choice to accommodate any guest. I made use of the Gym whilst there and although slightly dated, the gym equipment was fine. We also enjoyed use of the Sauna and the Swimming Pool which was great after a pleasant but long day out ! A great place to stay and is in a great central location for visiting Chester or Wrexham We had an enjoyable stay and I would recommend this hotel.

    « Birthday spa night. »

We booked here for a birthday spa night. It's Easily the worst place I've been, the customer service was terrible and the staff had no communication with each other. They gave our room away without confirming it with us and told us when we turned up after travelling over an hour to get there. After telling us they couldn't give us our original room they tried to then Send us to another Hotel in the centre of Chester that was out dated and smelt funny. We paid to stay in a hotel that was surrounded by land instead at the hotel they sent us to we was in a bottom floor room with the train station right out side our window and our room right next door to the hotel bar, it had no spa which was the whole point of our night away but said we was welcome to drive 20 mins back to there hotel if we wanted to use it which was pointless. When we rang the original hotel Manager from the Hotel we was supposed to be staying in to complain and explain how unhappy we was he was nothing but rude and arrogant with us as well as making out like it was our fault they gave our room away. At first refused us a refund as we refused to stay in the hotel if it wasn't the one we originally booked. The whole experience was a joke and it ruined our birthday celebrations! We would never return and will not be recommending to anybody.

    « A great value weekend break »

We spent two nights at the Llyndir on a package that included 1 evening meal and afternoon tea. The hotel is great and the rooms we had appeared to have been recently refurbed. The staff are so helpful (specifically Dionne, who was wonderful). Not too far from Chester (about £15 in a taxi). The food at the hotel is really very good. Breakfast even included Bucks Fizz, which was a lovely touch. We'll definately be back.

« Excellent value, great staff! »

We stayed at the hotel on Saturday 22nd Oct. having read the reviews we were nervous about coming here. We paid for the breakfast and dinner inclusive option, which in our opinion was incredible value for money. The hotel, service and experience massively exceeded our expectations - everything was perfect. The food was great, staff couldn't help you enough and everyone made us feel welcome. We are particularly grateful to Andre and Diane. They were very accommodating, even storing my wife's breast milk in their fridges! It was a relaxing break and we wouldn't hesitate in coming back or recommending this place to anyone.

    « Ladies spa break »

Myself and 5 friends, had an overnight spa break, we had a really lovely time. The spa treatments and pool were brilliant. Rooms, beds, staff and food excellent. To make it even better there was a wedding going on and we were invited in to enjoy the dancing. All in all a great weekend, can't wait till next time!!!!

    « Wedding 30th Oct 16 »

Myself and my partner got married here last weekend and we were both blown away with the level of service we received here. Andrei who was in charge of the running of the day ( with help of Louise who was fabulous) was absolutely brilliant , he was attentive , professional and friendly and couldn't do enough for us or our guests. The wedding itself went without a hitch thanks to all of the staff on the day as well as Zoe , poppy and Sarah who helped me create and plan my perfect day for months before - the food was beautiful as well! . The venue itself was perfect the grounds provided a backdrop for lovely pictures and there are plenty of rooms for relatives to sit if they need a quiet moment , I could not have asked for a more perfect wedding day thanks to the outstanding staff - especially Andrei and Louise !

    « Good but noisy »

Recently had a 1 night stay here. Nice quiet setting, well presented hotel. Staff welcoming and friendly. Room clean if a little dated. Food in the bar was excellent and the breakfast was also very good. The only downside was how noisy it was in the room. I had a ground floor room and the floorboards above were extremely squeaky and kept me up until quite late. Also when I turned on the taps and when other guests did it sounded like a fog horn going off. So a disturbed night sleep. I'm sure the more modern rooms would avoid these problems.

« The best night away for many years »

A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location, tastefully furnished throughout and delightful gardens. Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent general manager and receptionist! My partner and I were so delighted with the the hotel that our only wish would have been to stay longer. Keep up the good work! We cannot wait to return :-)

« Good value for money »

A really enjoyable two night break over half-term. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The double room was clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The pool was warm though quite basic. No jacuzzi unfortunately.but there was a small sauna. The breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice. We will definitely return in the future especially as it is so close to Chester. 20 mins. from getting on the park and ride and we were back at the hotel.

    « A Great Place for a Wedding »

We stayed here as a family for two nights for a family wedding. This is an old building, being constantly updated and maintained to provide a good wedding venue and on the evening of our arrival, there were few problems with the plumbing and hot water - however, the way that everything was dealt with by the staff was very good with all guests being kept informed of what was going on. All services were fully operational by the time of the Wedding, so no real problems. Our was a family room - very spacious. The only criticism would be the Bed settee that our daughter had to sleep on was very uncomfortable - as the room was so big, I would thoroughly recommend that is be converted to take x2 queen size beds, rather than mess around with the bed settee option...... but hey! minor criticism! The Wedding services seemed to be fantastic, food was excellent and hot Overall a super Venue

« Someone needs to have a word »

So lets start with the good things,my youngest daughter got married here yesterday and from start to finish what a day it was.expensive yes worth it yes superb from the start at one p.m until the finish at midnight,i can only say that the people involved with the day especially the staff who waited on and catering toastmaster etc were fantastic it was so smooth and trouble free it made a day that will live in my daughters mind forever, but i think the hotel had serious issues with room cleanliness and my experience wasn,t isolated i,m sorry to say,one set of guests had individuals sleeping on the floor due to there only being two beds for four people one had to change room as he had a bed that was for infants and himself being nearly six foot one family found dust mites when they turned back their sheets and as for myself not forgetting i paid over three figures for my room only to be told it had no hot water due to a breakdown of a pump was promised extra drinks for the top table which i,m almost possitive we didn,t get but the standard of our new room was poor to say the least, the bathroom had dirty marks on the walls which i wiped up the grouting in the shower was brown with dirt in places awful when you think of the price we paid the tiles at the back of the toilet had no mastic sealant round it so all the stray dirt /toilet misses could get under the tiles the window sills were black with milldew/mould and i could list more but i won,t.i have to say that as perfect as the day was when you encounter such issues you are not going to talk about all the good things that this hotel can offer but the negative sides, and i do hope that the management get to grips with what is obviously a serious problem

« Lauren and mattys wedding »

We had an amazing time at Lauren and Matty's wedding ,the hotel and grounds are amazing and nothing was too much trouble the staff were great ,however when we went to bed I pulled the covers back to discover dust mites in the bed !! I lifted the sheet and the matress protector was stained and brown, the dust behind the head board was inches thick ,the window frames were covers in black mildew, not a cheap room either very dissapointed with the room.

« Excellent 70th birthday celebration with ladies aged between early 30's to 76! »

Brilliant weekend with ladies to celebrate a special birthday, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was amazing. On arrival our selection of sandwiches and tea/coffee arrived as requested for 12 ladies in preparation for an afternoon of spa facilities and treatment. Although the hotel had a wedding on site, they still managed to accommodate all our needs effeciently. Many thanks

« WEDNESDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2016 FAMILY EVENING DINNER TO CELEBRATE A SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY »

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU We would like to thank everyone at Llyndir Hall for the excellent way that you catered for our family party on Wednesday evening 26th October 2016. The occasion was to celebrate the silver 25th anniversary of a wedding reception which we had held for our daughter at Llyndir Hall in 1991 and we were not disappointed in taking the decison to retrace our steps Everybody in our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves - from our arrival to departure the service and the accomodation was first class. The menu choice catered for everyone with nothing being too much trouble and the service in the restarant was quick, courteous and efficient. Extra personal touches arranged by Louise on the sweet course plates were a surpise on the night and greatly appreciated by our daughter, son in law and guests. We are indebted to Louise and Zoe for their personal attention to detail and we pass on our grateful thanks to everyone at Llyndir Hall who helped to make our evening an enjoyable and memorable one It was lovely for us to re live the wedding day of 25 years ago and our fond memories of that day have in no way been diminished by our recent return visit. We have many photographs to remember the occasion and we will all without hesitation recommend the facilities of Llyndir Hall to everyone we know. With Best Wishes Jean and John Povey

« A gem of a hotel, will be back. »

An overnight stay before going to Chester Zoo. Right from arrival we knew we had found a lovely hotel. The receptionist was so helpful and dealt with us really quickly. The room itself was lovely with everything we needed for an overnight stay. The inclusive dinner option was fantastic. The was cooked perfectly and there was a great choice. Again the staff that looked after us over dinner were lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was amazing! A great choice of options from continental to cooked English. You could even have a bucks fizz, which my wife really enjoyed! Heartily recommend a visit and we will be back if we are in the area again tin the future.

    « Over night »

Beautiful looking hotel set in woodlands. Nice friendly welcome was received at check in. We upgraded to executive room for a little room. After long journey we were too tired to go out for dinner so booked a table. Pleased we did food was very excellent. And so was the breakfast. Nice stay will be back.

« Enjoyable but very poor spa facilities »

The staff here are on the whole are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. I asked for a quiet room and it was very quiet, big and clean. Pillows very hard. Asked for feather pillows (not quite feather but more comfortable). Dinner was excellent, food beautifully presented and tasty and first class service. Breakfast was ok. Would have been nice to have individual yoghurts and pots of jam rather than in a large jar- a bit like school dinners. The spa was really disappointing though. Was so looking forward to this. It is an average sized pool in a conservatory with a sauna that holds 2 people. The treatments are from an outside company and when I called they had no appointments that day nor the day after (we were only there 2 days). The spa area really needs extending and modernising if the hotel wants to compete with other hotels for spa breaks. Unfortunately this would stop us returning.

    « 1 year anniversary. »

The hotel on approach was stunning, the hotel itself is beautiful and well maintained. Our room was large and bed comfy. Had a lovely 2 night get away and couldn't of asked for anything more. The food on both nights was really tasty and we'll presented. the staff are all very friendly and leah our waitress & Emily sheparard on reception really stood out. Thank you for being so helpful and for making us feel so welcome.

    « Training Event »

I delivered training here on the 19th Oct. Really well looked after by Fiona & Sharon - couldn't do enough for me - extra flip charts, change of food order, regular tea and coffee. Great service by two lovely ladies. Very impressed.

« Lovely hotel, standard spa facilities! »

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room, which was very big, had a TV with most essential channels, big bath/shower room, lovely views and huge bed. After checking out our room we headed down to the spa which was ok. It has a small pool and a very small sauna (big enough for 2 people) when we were in there, there was a hen party of roughly 15 women who were all having individual treatments, so it was fully booked. (Also very loud) The hotel is very close to some lovely pubs/restaurants (2 min drive/ 10 min walk approx.). One I would definitely recommend is the Nags head! Please note: there is no cash machine in this whole village. The closest one is 15 minute drive away. We made the mistake of walking to the restaurant and then it was too dark to walk back as the hotel is down unlit country lanes then had to find a way to get back without cash (unfortunately no Uber out there) and none of the pubs/restaurants/shops do cash back. Overall lovely hotel, in an amazing location. Will definitely go back!

    « Sight seeing »

We arrived at the hotel, a wedding was taking place. A lovely setting, the meet and greet at reception was excellent and very helpful. We were slightly early so the staff took our bags to our room and we went out for a few hours. Everything seemed relaxed at the hotel and anything you needed they helped us with. We have a 16 month old so we felt very welcome and gave us a few ideas to do whilst we were there. The room was excellent, big and spacious, the only thing I can fault was the bed, it creaked like nothing else, when you have a toddler in the same room, trying to be quiet whilst she slept wasn't easy, the only fault really. The hot water didn't work when we needed it too to Bath the little one but within about 45 mins it was sorted. I'd recommend the hotel to anyone. To the shops it was about a 15 min drive so ideally placed for us. Thanks to the staff.

    « Afternoon tea.!! »

My wife and I booked afternoon tea at the Llyndir Hall, Rosset. We arrived at the hotel and headed for reception, no body was on reception but somebody will be with us soon after 10 minutes a receptionist arrived and showed us to the lounge for afternoon tea, again we had to wait about five minutes for the waitress to arrive. We told her we booked for afternoon tea, she replied do you just want tea, anyway after a short while we got our afternoon tea. Would I go again to the Llydir Hall ? DEFINATLY NOT! The Service was dreadful, the food was appalling, We where never were offerd a glass of Prosaico which was included in the price! The Food and service is eqivelent to a poor Two Star Hotel.

« Lovely setting, average accommodation »

The Hotel is nestled down a quiet country lane in Rossett, with picturesque, serene surroundings. It 'looks the part' on a sunny autumn day and appears to be popular wedding venue (there were two in the three days we were there). Unfortunately as previous reviews have noted some aspects are a little tired. The plumbing is sub standard (noisy heating in the mornings), we had two rooms and having a shower in either was akin to standing in a damp mist. Stereotypical England, but no reason it couldn't be improved in 2016 for this mid-level Hotel. If you want a bath, turn the tap on in advance, make a cup of tea, and do the crossword while the bath is filling. On two of the three nights wedding guests partied on into the night which was fine if you were part of it, but not conducive to sleep if not. Room 20 on the ground floor is near a storage room and noisy when hotel staff cleared up the furniture in the small hours (reception was very apologetic the next day). Room 20 is also extremely dimly lit, with not enough light to read a book or newspaper comfortably. Odd, in that it could be easily remedied with brighter light bulbs. On the third night, with no wedding, the hotel was very quiet and restful. The gym too was a bit tired, and in need of maintenance. Pool was nice, if small.

    « Lovely, Relaxing Stay »

Visited this hotel a few weeks back with my partner and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was!Everything was great from check in to departure and the location and grounds were lovely! We ate dinner both nights and the food was tasty and well presented! Had a few minor issues with the room on the first night as the TV remote stopped working and the pillows were a bit on the hard side however left a note for housekeeping the next morning and by the time I returned they had sorted it all out and left extra pillows which was fab! Cannot fault this hotel at all and would definitely return in the future.

« A lovely way to spend the afternoon »

One of my friends had a voucher for afternoon tea. A great offer - 2 for 1 This brought the cost of afternoon tea down to £12.50 a head. Even though the staff were incredibly busy as they had a wedding at the hotel (looked fabulous for the happy couple) we were so well looked after. We were placed in a beautiful room overlooking the grounds. It was glorious outside and we felt really relaxed. Our waitress was so polite and helpful and managed to serve our afternoon tea in between our bouts of girly gossip. Not an easy feat! The tea itself was plentiful and delicious. A real calorie filled treat! I would certainly recommend this lovely hotel. A big thank you to all concerned.

    « Attractive location...but check your bill!! »

We stopped at Llyndir Hall as part of a group of 49. The hotel struggled to cope with the large numbers despite the fact that the staff did their very best to give of their best. Meal times were a struggle and there was a lack of staff(managment) to supervise the issues arising from the congestion. The evening meal took over 2 3/4 hours to complete. The time from ordering to receiving rhe 1st course was 35 minutes. Breakfasts were disappointing both in terms of choice and quality ( no granola after 2 days, no brown bread ,no butter, no fresh fruit) Llyndir Hall is set in a delightful secluded location and within walking distance of the village. We had a superior room which was spacious, comfortable and worth the upgrade. The spa area however was very disappointing. The gym equipment was very outdated and badly in need of an upgrade( 3-in-1 oil would have solved the squeaky machines!!). We stayed for 4 nights and I was annnoyed to find one evening(6.45pm) that I could not access the swimming pool because it had been "commandeered" by local spa members who were playing a full scale water polo match which left no space for anyone else to swim in the pool!! On mentioning this to the spa supervisor there was no apology for the inconvenience I had had to suffer I suppose this could happen at any hotel but before departure when settling our bar tab,we realised, on checking our bill that someone had added £68 worth of drinks onto our room bill!. This to me was the result of slack management and security procedures( i.e. no one had checked the discrepancy with the signatures and the room swipe-key had not been used for verification). Again when the issue was raised at reception there was a limited apology with the promise that the matter"would be looked into". Not very reassuring really!! On the whole then a disappointing experience

    « Afternoon tea / Travelzoo »

A party of six visited Llyndir Hall with a voucher from Travelzoo We were greeted by Ashley , who made us most welcome with a smile and chat. Once settled she served us with a glass of bubbly, followed by Three loaded cake stands of assorted sandwiches , cakes and fresh scones jam & cream together with pots of tea using China tea sets. We were celebrating an eightieth birthday and as soon as Ashley realised she vanished and returned with a quickly constructed birthday greetings , created on a slate platter. A very nice gesture at a minutes notice . All in all a very pleasant afternoon with personal attention from Ashley Davies. Well done !!

« good location and nice and quiet »

Booked for 5 nights we had a good time staff very nice and helpfull .Rooms are a bit dated the hotel has character and is in a lovely setting.Food is nice the pool needs some money spending on it. We would stay here again

« NICE PLACE AND LOCATION BUT...... »

Booked this hotel several months in advance for two nights.. Arrived Friday evening to be told the bar and restaurant and lounge were not available Saturday as they had two functions. As a hotel they should have at least warned us or offered to book for us a meal elsewhere locally. The lighting in the spacious room was the poorest I have ever experienced - too dim to read by. Two faults in the windowless bathroom (broken bulb and no extractor fan) were not attended to. Lastly to report two chunks of glass found in the breakfast and to get "oh,sorry" and then not remove the tureen is not good enough. The staff are pleasant and hard working, the building has character, tastefully decorated and is in a lovely setting. However, we felt that we came second to everything else that was going on. Overall I did not feel lit was full value for what we paid.

    « Afternoon tea »

Visited for afternoon tea for our anniversary. Food nice with lovely glass of chilled prosecco. Service a little weak. Had to ask for cutlery and napkins! Disappointing decor. Got married here in 1994 but current decor doesn't suit the style of building. Where have all the comfy sofas gone? Even the lounge made into a dining room. Little things just made it look not as opulent as it used to be and a little gimmicky. I think I was hoping for traditional country house decor like it used to be so just not to my taste.

« Little Gem in Welsh Countryside »

A one night stay as a birthday celebration and Llyndir Hall is close enough to Chester to enjoy the shopping and restaurants but far enough to escape the hussle and bustle. We had a lovely circular walk in the village of Rossett and then onto the hotel with 2 hours in the afternoon enjoying the pool and sauna. The package also came with 3 course dinner and breakfast. There was a large party in on one night so the serving of dinner was a bit slow but it certainly didn't spoil our enjoyment and the food is of a very high quality. Overall a very enjoyable break and would strongly recommend this hotel.

« I've haf better phone and internet service in downtown Kabul »

The staff are universally helpful, but how the management has the brass neck to call the WiFi service "broadband" is laughable. Regular phone service on all cellular networks barely exists either. I was assured it was all in hand, but this is 2016 chaps, not 1996.

    « Excellent Group Holiday »

A group of 33 visually impaired and blind people stayed for four nights at this hotel. We had a wonderful time . The staff were very helpful, the food excellent and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Thanks to all the staff for an excellent time and look forward to our next visit.

    « Training required »

The hotel is set in lovely grounds, quite impressive when you arrive. Unfortunately the staff clearly require training. I Ordered a sandwich at lunch time , beef and horseradish on bloomer bread. The sandwich arrived on normal bread and no horseradish. When I came to pay the bill it took over 15 mins to find a staff member to pay. The evening the staff were running round like headless chickens. The hotel clearly lacked management.

    « Nice stay. »

Myself and my daughter came here for a spa day/night and we were very pleased with the hotel. The room was lovely, the hotel clean and the breakfast was delightful. There is ample parking although, I passed the little lane the hotel is situated on twice before I turned down it! I was a little disappointed with the spa as there was no jacuzzi or steam room but the pool area was nice. A pleasant stay.

« Their Second attempt to prove me wrong »

I shall not be returning. Stayed there in just and complained ( I would like to make a complaint regarding one of your hotels. My partner booked a 2 night romantic birthday break at the llyndir hotel and spa. We checked in with no real issues and quickly settled into room. The first issue we had was trying to eat. She had fell ill the day before and was unable to eat anything on the menu the first day we were there, so after a bit of arguing and a lot of explaining they finally agreed to make scrambled egg on toast. That night when we went to bed, we went to the bathroom to find the toilet constantly dripping. When we went to bed there was a constant buzzing noise that didn't stop at all. Occasionally getting that loud waking us up with the doors vibrating. Mentioned this to staff the following day who sent up someone to investigate. Fiddled around with the toilet and fixed it the best he could altho it still didn't fix the problem. The buzzing and banging noise that appeared to be coming from room next to us was put down to the water pump and pipe work. It went quiet during the day so we caught up on some sleep before going for a swim. My partner unable to join me as when she woke they had decided to close the pool for a class. So we ate and returned to bed early only to be greater by the wonderful "pipe work" again when. we finally managed to get to sleep at 0130 we were woken by the pump kicking in again at 0500. So to sum up our nice romantic relaxing break - it has been anything but relaxing and we are now glad to be home and able to get some decent sleep). Didn't post this at the time as they offered me a free night in a supine room bed and breakfast. Accepted and thought give them a chance. On arrival everything seemed ok. Checked in to find that I was in an executive room which was smaller than the room we had stayed in b4. There was no jacuzzi bath and shower that I was told there would be. Went for a massage which was nice. Then went for a shower. (Either hot or cold. No in-between). Had dinner and was expecting as nice as first time we stayed. But they've changed the chef and whilst was nice don't think anywhere near as good as last time. Finished our average dinner and returned to bed (couldn't sit out the courtyard as a wedding party had taken over the yard from 3pm). Got into bed only to discover that the wonderful pipework still made a racket.

    « Delightful!! »

My friend and I went for an afternoon tea for our birthdays with a voucher off travelzoo. From start to finish it was delightful. My friend is a vegetarian and was catered for without fuss. We had a lovely glass of bubbly too. The food was delicious. The waitress, Dionne, was extremely attentive and made our experience a very enjoyable one. She noticed that we were celebrating our birthdays and arranged with the chef to organise a cake. This arrived on a slate platter, inscribed Happy Birthday and delivered by another member of staff, Luke. He was also very charming and polite. There was no rush to finish. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. Would not hesitate to recommend. Will be back again.

« Wedding party, so it's not my usual review, but I'd go back. »

Conflict of interest in that we were part of a wedding. We stayed two nights as did a fair few of the sixty or seventy guests. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised by the grounds, with a few sculptures of some quality dotted around. I was hugely surprised by the quality of the ground floor room. Two large double beds defined it as a twin, the bathroom was spacious and well presented and again, some quality pieces of furniture acting as wardrobes, drawers etc. On the first night I organised an impromptu meal for about 12 of us in one of the smaller lounges. Nothing was too much trouble. And the food was fresh and fine. Not the usual banqueting vegetables that are so often on offer in what is essentially a banqueting hotel. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and the sun shone down on us throughout the entire wedding day (fortunate, as it was a lovely outdoor wedding in the Gazebo), and then another surprise was the wedding breakfast;- not only was it acceptable, it was actually pretty fine, as was the buffet in the evening. We also took advantage of the gym and the pool and they were perfectly fine for a hotel of that size. All in all, I can thoroughly recommend this as a wedding venue. I think that if I turned up at the same time as me and my party, as just me and my wife, I would not have had full use of all the grounds and facilities, nor would I have received the same attention necessarily as I did. So I would check to see if there's a large wedding going on at the same time before you book.

    « Very poor meal... »

Have been to this Hotel many times, staff are ok but tonight they seemed disorganised and our order was simply lost in the ether!! First "rare" ribeye arrived absolutely well done, sent back to chef... Second one (after 25mins) arrives burnt on one side and well cooked throughout... Can't believe after a returned meal they could get it so wrong. Spoke with Chef direct, apologised but didn't seem bothered. Spoke with manager and detected attitude. Not recommended. Spent well on average wine but a very poor show, first negative review Iv posted...

    « Hen do »

We stayed here on the 3rd of September for a Hen do. We can't fault the rooms or the spa at all. We had nice spacious rooms. The showers were very powerful and hot. The bar was quite expensive. £5 for a Malibu and lemonade!! The only down fall of this hotel was the attitude of the staff at breakfast. I was asked how many for breakfast. When I told the lady how many, she was really rude! She asked me was I serious then went on to talk about me to another member of the breakfast staff! To which I told them I could hear them!! She carried on banging the plates and making us feel really uncomfortable. I just wish I caught her name.

    « Lovely position »

We spent one night in this hotel on a special Sunday night deal, it was excellent value. We had a lovely room over looking the gardens. It was very spacious with a large bathroom with a bath and walk in shower. The hotel is situated down a long drive in a rural position very quiet and peaceful. Dinner was excellent with a good choice and beautifully presented, altogether a lovely meal.We felt that there could have been a little more choice for breakfast, for example there was only plain yoghourt and not very much fruit. I swam in the pool which was very pleasant. However I did feel that the changing facilities and showers could benefit from a little TLC. They were small and a little tired perhaps they could be improved. The staff were very helpful and courteous and made our stay very enjoyable. We would certainly stay there again.

« Poor service and accom »

Understaffed, chaotic and noisy. Room was an exec double, bedside light could only be turned off by master switch, no tea, coffee had to ring reception 3 times over 2 days to get coffee. Could hear a boiler continuously so not good for a quiet retreat. Booked half board but could only eat early or after 8:30 both nights - there was a wedding and coach party. Off the menu various items were unavailable. Staff were friendly - not their fault, just a tired hotel run on a budget.

« Lovely surroundings hotel a tad tired »

Spent a weekend here in August and the hotel is nice but tired. This is an old building and certainly in need of some attention. Room 4 was comfortable and clean as was the bathroom but the view was over a roof. The food was good and included in our deal was afternoon tea one day and an evening meal both were really good. The swimming pool was also ok but in need o some attention. The staff were helpful and pleasant.

    « Car Fest »

Stayed here 3 nights while attending 'Car Fest North' clean room, only dined here one night but food good, the Friday and Saturday night they were hosting weddings so bar service was slow as staff very busy with weddings. Breakfast was good choice but again service slow, think they need to have more staff available at busy times. On a positive note after telephoning hotel several times and chasing up my husbands lost jacket and me offering to pay for it to be posted it was sent free of charge so thank you to the staff that did this. About 9 miles from Car Fest North so good location if you don't want to camp.

« Great staff, lovely food, shame about the accommodation »

We stayed for one night with 2 children. The food was good, really tasty, but at dinner our son's nuggets and chips were served without the beans stated on the menu - we had to ask for them, and my pork cutlets with black pudding didn't include any black pudding (which I only realised after looking at the menu for dessert - too late to rectify it!). The room (room 2) was incredibly hot and stuffy, despite opening the windows and having the fan on all night. It also had a strange smell. It was really uncomfortable for that reason - the hotel must have been aware of this as there was a fan already in the room when we arrived). Not much of a view either, just a flat roof. There was a sign in the room saying complimentary fresh milk available on request, but when we requested some extra coffee and more milk we were disappointed that the milk was a handful of little uht pods. The pool was quite small, but warm our boys enjoyed it. Unfortunately the area was a bit grubby and tired and smelled a bit of mildew and the changing rooms were grotty and definitely in need of a refurb. I didn't try the showers there, preferring to return to the room, but hubby and sons did and they were freezing cold. The staff, from the receptionists, bar staff and the ladies serving at breakfast time (with the exception of the man in the pool area) were all extremely pleasant, helpful and friendly and chatty and nothing was too much trouble, including bringing us a small tube of toothpaste as we had forgotten ours. The room was really spacious with plenty of room for 4 despite the massive double bed, double sofa bed and single fold up bed that were in there. There was a lovely garden that our boys enjoyed playing in. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and tasty (really nice sausages) with something to suit everyone from a full Welsh breakfast, to croissants or toast and cereal. We paid for breakfast but the children ate for free, so great value too.

    « Excellent Service »

I stayed here last night with my husband and 2 young children we had a long drive up and was exhausted. We hadn't booked in the restaurant for our dinner so popped in and we was seated in the lounge area. The lady that looked after us I think her name was Lisa couldn't do enough for us. She was really friendly and chatty and really helped our normally shy little boy come out of his shell ... he's not stopped speaking about her since.i can't thank Lisa enough for making our evening a really enjoyable one.

« Some parts need an update. »

My husband and I used Tesco Reward vouchers to book a night at the hotel, including breakfast. When I booked I was told we would be in an executive room. First impressions were good. The building and grounds looked lovely. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. When we got to our room, number 7, it was rather disappointing. It wasn't what I'd call executive. It was quite a dark room, in need of a fresh lick of paint and the view from the window was of a flat roof full of air vents. I made use of the swimming pool which was small but that was fine as I had it to myself. The changing rooms, as has been mentioned in previous reviews, were very small, old and a bit grotty. I decided to go back to my room to shower instead of in the changing rooms, but the thermostat must have broken as it was boiling hot. I reported this to the receptionist who was most apologetic and offered to move us to another room but said the only one available was a twin not a double. When I saw this room, I think it was room 14, I was so happy that the shower had caused us to move. This was a lovely, bright, modern room with great views over the gardens. The receptionist gave us a couple of vouchers for a free drink each by way of an apology, she was lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. We both slept well in the new room. Breakfast was a buffet, with the usual cooked items plus cereals and fresh fruit. I like my food to be piping hot but the cooked items were just warm. With just two staff serving, they seemed rushed and not very happy. Overall we enjoyed our stay but will probably go back to staying at 4 star places as I think it is worth paying the extra.

    « Quite nice. »

Just stayed for one night for friends birthday. The rooms need a little sprucing up as they are a little dated, the bathrooms especially could do with re tiling etc. The bed in our room was small. The waiting on staff seem to be chaotic, disorganised, you order a drink etc and they forget, don't come back until you get their attention or wander around not remembering who ordered what. The meal itself was lovely, the service let the restaurant down. Breakfast was ok, only just warm, you wait a while if you want different eggs to scrambled. I've stayed at the grosvenor pulford up the road from this hotel and I'd go back to that before returning here.

« This is the worst hotel experience we have ever had, will NOT be returning to this hotel!! »

As we were staying in Chester city on the 27th August and we always have such a great experience in the Chester city hotels we thought we would extend our visit to Chester by staying an extra night (28thAugust) and stay at the Llyndir hotel following the great reviews.........what a Mistake!!!! We arrived around tea time, check in was speedy and we booked our evening meal for 08:45pm as there was no earlier availability. We were given our key to room 4 however when we arrived in our room there was a loud buzzing sound which on further inspection was due to the fact that we were next to a massive heating unit or that is what it looked like (refer to picture) on the roof next to our room. As I am a light sleeper we thought we would telephone reception and see if another room was available, we rang '0' continuously for 5-10 mins ......no answer, we then tried to phone reception utilising our iPhone and ring externally .....No answer so in the end my husband had to make the trip to the reception where the receptionist was looking at paperwork and to his dismay the phone was ringing in the background. However, the hotel had no alternative rooms as she stated it was at capacity so we had to remain in the room we were originally assigned to. We decided to make a cup of tea in the room as our meal wasn't booked until 08:45pm however there was only X1 tiny carton of milk which due to the size of the cups present in the room this was not enough milk to put in your tea unless your preference is black tea. Again,we rang reception who did answer this time and stated they would send some more milk up, 20 mins later no milk so we then had to telephone down again and then we waited a further 10mins to finally have a cup of tea. Then it was time for our meal we arrived at the restaurant at 08:30 and unfortunately there was no tables available our meal wasn't booked until 08:45 so we were not concerned and we ordered a couple of drinks at the bar in the meantime. We finally got seated around 08:50pm and the staff forgot to give us our menu which we had to ask for at around 09:15pm and our order was not taken until around 09:30pm we had finished our drinks and again we had to catch the attention of one of the staff to order another drink, we decided to order a bottle of prosecco however they brought the bottle in a ice bucket with two glasses and we waited a bit as we assumed this would have been poured out for us but realised you must have to pour it out yourself........we both could not believe it as we have never ever been to a restaurant where you have to pour your own drinks, maybe your second glass but not your first from the bottle. When our meal arrived our chips were not fresh you could tell they had been standing for a while and were just say warm and my well done steak tasted of charcoal and my husbands fish was of the same very poor quality, he stated it tasted like frozen fish you get from the supermarket. We explained to the waitress that the food was disappointing and she apologised stating that they were short staffed and the hotel was fully booked. We then thought we would have a dessert the lady gave us the menu for the desserts however never came back to take our order for desserts, we waited until 11;30pm at which point one of the waitresses/waiter lost balance and smashed lots of glasses on the floor behind us, nobody stated good night, thank you and we were just left to go to our room. At around 08:50 this morning we went down to breakfast after no sleep due to the big unit buzzing all night on the roof next to our room and there was no tables ready, there were a couple of tables where people had left after finishing there breakfast but no one had cleaned the tables we had to wait again to be seated. The breakfast was a help yourself buffet with everything you would expect however you have to order your eggs separately which when they finally arrived we had already eaten the rest of our breakfast. Checkout was the best thing about this hotel experience even then the receptionist did not say goodbye, good luck you will need it when staying at this hotel!!

My husband and I stayed for 1 night on Tesco clubcard token. We were pleasantly surprised. Hotel in pretty grounds. Staff friendly and cheery. Bed was huge. Room dimly lit though and could hear traffic and air con. Breakfast choices varied enough. Plates werent warm. Good location. Would recommend. had everything you would expect except for hairdryer. Staff willing to please.

« Pleasant but nothing special »

We booked 2 rooms here for a social' catch up'. The rooms were of a good side but unfortunately very dark with one room having a very small window. You needed lights on at any time of day. The grounds were nice with plenty of seating so you could drink in the sun. The evening meal was if good quality but the breakfast was mediocre with limited choice. The hotel pool was very well kept but sadly so narrow that it was a struggle to swim if there were more than 3 people in. We did have a nice time but I probably wouldn't go back. I have been to many other hotels which are better value.

This hotel is extremely well priced for the facilities it offers. The gardens and outside areas are very nice. The room we had was very spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The check In and Out was easy. The Evening Meal was very nice with enough choice for everyone. The breakfast was perfect to start the day. Would book again if in the area. Easy to find and not far from local attractions in Chester and Wales.

    « Excellent Breakfast »

My Husband and I visited Llyndir Hall this month for a wedding. Despite the final leg of our trip being somewhat tense, up a narrow country road upon which expensive 4x4s demonstrated limited regard for other road users, initial impressions of the hotel itself were very positive, with the lovely old house set amidst well-maintained lawns and mature trees. We received a very warm welcome from reception upon arrival, and this remained consistent throughout our stay. I couldn't sing the praises of the majority of the staff highly enough, with a particular mention to the two ladies who were on reception during our stay. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble ... which was very helpful, given that the key cards for our room required regular reactivation, so I had call to speak with them a lot! We were in room 47 - a bit away from the main part of the hotel, I found this to be pleasingly quiet for most of our stay. The room was very spacious, and immaculately clean on arrival and had pretty much everything you could ask for. There was a very informative little hotel directory in the room, summarising everything from breakfast times to the TV channels. One small gripe would be that the Wi-Fi connection was terribly slow. I suspect this may have been due to our room being so far from the main "hub" of the building. Both the other half and I were very impressed by the breakfast offerings. An all-you-can-eat arrangements tends to go down very well with both of us, so it was already off to a good start. I was also very pleased to see that they offered freshly cooked eggs of your choosing, in addition to the Scrambled manifestation available on the buffet. I never cease to be amazed by a well-poached egg, as I can't seem to make them myself, so a big thumbs up for that! The lady who greeted us for breakfast on the first morning, whose name I did not catch, was especially lovely. Upon enquiring as to whether we would like tea or coffee, she responded very attentively to my request for "all the coffee. Strong," provided me with coffee for two (for one) and for the duration of the breakfast checked back with me to ensure that I had enough. Given the early hour, this was hugely appreciated and arguably contributed positively to the establishment of a harmonious marriage! The wedding food was spectacularly good, particularly the main meal in the daytime, and once again, the staff very approachable and helpful throughout. Overall, a very enjoyable and lovely stay. Neither the other half or myself would have any reservations about returning again if we were in the area ... indeed, he expressed his willingness to do so based on the breakfast alone!

    « Excellent afternoon tea »

Went for afternoon tea with my daughter and some friends, it was a Groupon deal and was excellent value. The afternoon tea included a glass of prosecco, the scones were amazing, everything was very fresh and clearly homemade. The weather was lovely and we had our afternoon tea outside in the lovely gardens. (it was £12.50, incredible value).Ani looked after us very well. The hotel itself was lovely from what we saw. As part of the experience we also had access to the spa, it is rather pushing it to call it a spa, it is just a pool and a tiny sauna. The showers in the ladies changing rooms have seen better days, but it is evident that the owners are working their way through doing plenty of refurbishment work. I would go back again, it was a lovely afternoon and the sunshine certainly helped.

    « Lovely »

Just spent a couple of nights with my Nan, Mom and six year old daughter. It was lovely, lovely staff, rooms, food, settings and pool area my daughter loved it. Nothing was too much trouble. My mom and I are vegetarian and we didn't fancy the same meal again so the chef made us something from scratch that we requested you don't get that service in some places! I can't wait to visit again.

    « Excellent stay »

Enjoyed our stay here last minute trip for 2 days bed and breakfast with my husband and 2 children. The staff were lovely especially the lady who was in the restaurant at breakfast did not catch her name but she was so welcoming. The leisure facilities were excellent. Although the hotel seems to be more for couples the hotel made an great effort for the kids to enjoy their stay they enjoyed the treasure hun and the prize went down well with them. If we are in the area again we would definitely stay again. Thank you for our lovely stay

    « wedding weekend stay »

We had pre booked months and months beforehand and was told we had the best rooms in the hotel. The one on the bottom floor was not too bad and had several extras which were not available in the one upstairs. We were told afterwards that the Hallmark Group have only owned the property for a short while. No real excuse for the fact that the sash window frames were last painted in the previous century, or for the dirt on the window frames inside. The bathroom was OK apart from the fact that there is no handgrip or rail to get in or out. Nice touch the bidet though. The room lighting is poor and there was only one easy chair. For a price of £107 per night that is not acceptable. The so called spa consists of one very small pool and a sauna. The gym equipment is very old and dated and the aircon in there is deafening.Lets hope the promised massive injection of cash will improve this tired old hotel significantly. Have to say that the staff did all they could to make us welcome, the breakfast was solidly good. I'd suggest to check whether a wedding is planned for the time of your visit, as the noise factor would be too much unless you were part of the party! Staff resetting the breakfast table with cutlery at 2.30 a.m. is also not great if your room is above the dining area! With a lot of love and a massive amount of cash this could be a great hotel again.

« Working stay stop over. »

Lovely setting, slight narrow lane leading up to the hotel. Meal was good and the bar prices were reasonable. Overall stay was good and the weather was kind to us. Rooms are still old looking, but this kept with the character of the building. There is also a leisure centre on site, be warned though as it is sometimes booked for sessions.

    « Ok..I guess »

We went for an overnight with dinner package and that is how we were addressed (you are the B&B with dinner said the girl at the desk... ) I nearly said No I am X but I didn't...) we arrived 45 mins before check in 'I'll just see if your room is ready' she chirped... came back and said yes but it would be an extra £10 for an early check in.... needless to say we went for a walk and came back after the check in time... we went for a swim from the room only to find that the lockers needed £1 coins to work ... we just took our towels and room key to the pool with us.. Dinner was OK but she asked constantly if we wanted extras (which weren't needed)...and we had to ask for water... Wine starts at about £19 and was OK although they didn't have some of the cheaper wines... Breakfast was a buffet shared with a large group (they sat in a different section but shared the buffet), I was going to take some juice when a guy with an American accent told me the food was just for the group (who were mainly German I think)... like a fool I believed him until I spoke to other guests who said the food was for all..... they were a coach load (about 50) and there was only one small toaster (the other was broken) I pointed this out to the staff and she said yes it's a domestic toaster and it cuts out... again I nearly said 'then buy a decent one that works'.... The house itself is lovely with many original features and Rossett is nice with a very nice church. I wish I knew there were constant buses to Chester as we would have gone. Next time perhaps, but not at this hotel.

Had my wedding here on Sunday 7th August and cannot fault the hotel at all. We had an absolutely fantastic day and couldn't of asked for anything better. Our every need was catered for by Poppy and Richard and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and the package itself was incredible value for money. We are astounded just how good the day was considering how little we paid. All of our guests commented what a lovely day it was and some even said it was the best wedding that they'd ever been too! I highly recommend Llyndir Hall to everyone looking for a venue for their wedding. We really can't thank you all enough and look forward to coming back for our first wedding anniversary! « Lovely Weekend »

The hotel is situated down a quiet lane and set in beautiful welsh countryside. Our room, was in need of updating - it was rather dark and gloomy but having said that it was far away from the wedding celebrations held that night and the following night and we were not disturbed at all. The bed was rather hard as were the pillows but I understand there is going to be an upgrade in the autumn. If that is the case then we shall certainly return. I loved the fact that we could open a window both in our room and the bathroom, especially as the weather was so hot. We found all the staff to be friendly, helpful and pleasant. The food was lovely, we enjoyed fresh local produce, well cooked and presented and very tasty. Breakfast was good, although the fresh orange was orange squash which I didn't like and there were no fried eggs on the buffett, just scrambled. But otherwise it was again, well cooked and tasty. The grounds are superb with many seats dotted about and contain sculptures which are great for photos! I didn't use the leisure centre but guests were saying how lovely the pool was. This hotel is well placed for Chester and Wrexham and is in easy reach of Llangollen which is a great place for a visit. I would certainly recommend this hotel and will probably return once the refurbishment has taken place.

« Pleasant stay lovely surroundings »

We stayed at the hotel for a birthday treat and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I had read a few of the previous reviews which gave a mixed assessment, however i can not really fault the hotel it was more than adequate. The gardens were beautiful and staff very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and the room and facilities comfortable. There was a wedding on the saturday this did detract from our stay or intefere with our enjoyment in fact it was nice to see a happy event! No where is completely perfect and there was nothing to put us off booking a return stay! I woukd recommend this hotel.

    « Weekend away »

After reading many reviews I came here with an open mind as I feel people complain about things too easily. Hotel grounds outside are gorgeous and staff are very nice. Our room is okay with 4 clean comfortable beds, however the bathroom has a very strong mouldy/mildew sort of smell. The worst thing has been other people's hairs in the bath where the cleaning hasn't been up to scratch. The breakfast was mediocre. We arrived at 10.05 and had to wait for a table. Tepid milk for cereal, most of the juice and pastries had gone, cooked items nothing special. Very pleased we are not here on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Nice location however. It's a shame as this hotel could be really gorgeous. My husband and children really enjoyed the swimming pool.

    « Great staff »

Stayed 2 nights recently, had a meal on 1st night - service was excellent but meal very poor - tasteless - would certainly not recommend eating evening meal at hotel . Superior room was clean and comfortable but was an adjoining room - the walls were so thin and we could hear everything from next room which did make getting to sleep very difficult Having said that the grounds around hotel were lovely .

« Welcoming Staff but Bathroom Under Par! »

The staff were welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The wifi quality is variable which was frustrating. The quality of the food and the service in the restaurant were very good. The decor in the bedroom was tired, the bed was very uncomfortable and extremely creaky. The bathroom is in need of refurbishment and was in need of a good clean. There was a lot of dust around the pipework. Floor tiles are cracked, which caused toes to be stubbed. Unless the bathroom and room were refurbished, I would not stay there again, which is a shame as the location is beautiful and the staff wonderful.

« Enjoyable stay after initial problems with my booking »

This is a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Arrived on Friday evening and enjoyed a few pints of draft Guinness and a Gammon and Chips which was really well cooked and presented. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. I had an early start on Saturday morning but the Buffet Breakfast was ready and waiting. Thanks to the staff, particularly Emily on reception, with whom I had had several discussions during the 48 hours prior to my arrival. We got there in the end!!!

« Very nice staff, do not be fooled by the nice old part of the building. Very nice grounds. »

The staff are first class. We stopped in the new part of the building which is very dated. You can hear everything through the walls, and ceiling. Our first room has a toilet macerator. The whole side of the building will here that. You can hear exactly what the next room is doing in the bathroom. The male W.C. To the bar area smells very bad of urine. The windows are single glazed, and not secure.(this is the new part not the old part that may be listed) We were locked out of our bathroom at 9.00 P.M. And had to swap rooms. The lighting to the new bedroom was broken. We had 1 low energy lamp, so could not see much. The beds are very uncomfortable. The worse that I have every slept in. The sheets had large holes in them, but were clean. Do not look inside the pillows. The tea bags appeared old, and the outer casing were ripped. Possibly the worst night sleep that I have had at a hotel. Please be careful walking down the corridor, the carpet is not fixed. Neither is the inspection chamber lid.

    « Very Dark »

My track record with Best Western places has not really been that great, but this has been the best one I've been to. It looks beautiful as you turn the corner and drive up past the side of the building, especially on a nice day. The only criticism I have is the car park! At night, more so towards the back of the car park, has no form of lighting! It's too dark, you can't see a thing when it gets dark. There are lights there, but they don't work, they haven't worked for a while! Please sort this out! Other than that small point, it's a great place.

« Lovely hotel, excellent service »

Lovely hotel that is still small enough to be personal. Staff were very welcoming and provided good service. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast and could not fault the food throughout the stay. we did have some issues with noisy neighbours, the staff reacted very quickly and then upgraded us to another room the next day. Lovely grounds.

    « A peaceful rural hotel. »

The staff were very accommodating. Business clients and families with small children were all catered for. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A very pleasant hotel surrounded by trees and fields. The statutes were a little quirky, but would provide interesting photo opportunities for events. We had a delicious evening meal, with a good choice. We do travel regularly and had to admit the breakfast was probably one of the best we have had recently.

« overnight stay with group of friends »

Very good value for money. The hotel and the garden were lovely and the staff were very friendly. You can also use the poo; during your stay. We ate at the bar and the food was really nice and reasonably priced. The room was big and clean and had a bath and shower. My only complaint was it was very warm in the rooms but would definitely stay here again.

    « Amazing Day »

I got married at Llyndir Hall just over two weeks ago and it was just perfect! I stayed for a total of three nights at the hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. All the staff (but special mention to Poppy and Diane) at Llyndir Hall helped to make our day extra special. They all made sure the day went off without a hitch and they were so attentive to our wants and needs throughout the day. Both my husband and I were so pleased when the rain cleared up and we were able to get married outside. The staff quickly moved everything that was set up inside and rearranged it outside without any fuss or hesitation. The food for the wedding breakfast was just delicious as was the hog roast in the evening. The hotel was very accommodating with regards to guests who had special dietary requirements and nothing was too much trouble. In fact I felt that everyone who worked the whole weekend couldn't do enough for us and our guests. Many of our guests have complimented the hotel, ground and staff for their excellent service and friendly approach. I won't hesitate to recommend Llyndir Hall and I hope to be back for a visit soon. Very happy bride :)

« One of the best ,,best westerns »

Lovely hotel, welcoming staff, rooms huge and very comfortable and clean, nice thoughtful touches by housekeeping staff, restaurant food was very good, normal food!!!!!!!!!, pool ok, but bit small, didn't try spa, very handy for Chester park and ride, would definitely go again

    « Not what expected »

Booked through Secret Escapes and was very disappointed as their standards are usually very good. We had paid £144 so was not the cheapest either. Was not impressed with the look of the hotel at all, found it to be dirty but the lady who ran the bar was really lovely. Cannot comment anymore as we didn't end up staying and stayed at a hotel not far from this one which was beautiful.

« Premier Inn is better value!!! »

well we booked what looked like a beautiful hotel for a business trip! huge mistake !!! night 1 - our neighbours in the room next door were a hen party !! after 4 visits from the hotel night porter and some choice language the ladies were moved downstairs to continue their fun, however returning to their room at silly o'clock ensured that the whole corridor was woken up! and no further sleep had, as we were up at 5am we decided to get up get ready and go, we headed for the bathroom no hot water so cold showers ! night 2 after a lovely meal in the restaurant and great service by Leah our room was moved to a "quieter" part of the hotel ! we had huge expectations of the new room however what a joke the room was above the air Conditioning units for the kitchen ...so another trip to reception to grumble about the noise ! a fan was delivered with an Ice bucket to put in front of it ! which was extremely kind ! on a plus the staff are amazing - helpful and very friendly - they do their best with the environment they work in ! would I stay here again I guess it's a "no" sadly - for £100 a night for me it's over priced- if we had stayed in a premier in we would have had our goodnight guarantee !!! it's genuinely not what you expect from a luxury hotel -feel totally gutted !! and very let down -

« Hotel good to average, spa shockingly bad »

Visited using a wowcher code for 2 nights. Staff were great - really attentive and food was good. We were given a room in the middle of a wedding party - which meant loud music. We asked to move and this was accommodated. Unfortunately the new room had no toiletries/ toilet paper and the bed was a double not twins. Member of staff said she would change this whilst we were at dinner, however this didn't happen and I had to request it again. Booked spa treatments - the treatments were great, however the spa facilities were the worst I have ever seen. Filthy dirty with cracked tiles everywhere. The sauna was big enough for only 2 people to use at a time and the pool was dirty around the edges (see photos) Overall nice hotel which could benefit from a bit of updating, but avoid the spa at all costs On departure I raised this with the manager who was very nice, apologised and gave us prosecco - a nice touch and not the managers fault necessarily, but this didn't make up for the facilities.

« Pretty average for the price »

A trip down to the Brecon Beacons necessitated an overnight en route. A bit above my usual budget but was the best I could find in the area. My brief overnight stay didn't give me the opportunity to take advantage of all facilities so this review is based on the room I was given. Location was nice: down a single track lane, quiet. Receptionist was busy on the phone when I arrived but dealt with my checkin in a timely manner. The layout of the hotel s perhaps not As accessible as some, my room seemed to be tucked down the back along a couple of corridors. My room was spacious, but was a little plainer than I'd have expected. Perhaps I was expecting a bit more. There were 2 single beds, mattresses were a little firm. All the usuals present: LCD TV, tea/ coffee provided. Wifi signal a little weak and unreliable, at least on my device. Bathroom fine, Albeit a little tired. I got a good nights sleep though and wasn't disturbed. I would imagine it gets used a lot for weddings though. I would say I have stayed in similar hotels but around the £50 mark, unfortunately I had no time for breakfast.

    « Beautiful Building. »

We stayed at Llyndir Hall for two nights. Booking was very easy, the bottle of wine I requested for our arrival was there and nicely chilled. As was a plate with Happy Birthday written on it in white chocolate and complimentary chocolates. (the stay was a belated pressie from my kids) a lovely touch. We received a very warm welcome. Our room was lovely, clean and airy with windows that opened fully! On the whole the hotel building and staff we came into contact with were fabulous. But, on the Thursday evening there was a wedding taking place. It wasn't too noisy, but the toilets were disgusting, my husband said there was vomit and faeces over the toilet pans and floor. Some real disgusting people out there. I felt sorry for the staff having to clean. The ladies toilets were ok, a little untidy. We had a three course meal on the Thursday night which was lovely and filling. Again staff were great. We ordered breakfast in our room for Friday morning, it arrived at the right time, but unfortunately, it was all very cold. We ordered poached haddock and got mackerel, the bread was stale. So weren't happy with that. The following morning we went down for breakfast, not nice. No eggs other than scrambled and these were swimming in water. All cooked breakfast items were luke warm, the bacon was very very under cooked. Its a shame, the breakfast let the stay down. Not sure if we will visit again.

    « Just OK »

From the e-mail's sent to book and enquire about the hotel, through to the check out everything was just OK. We arrived a little early, so it was understandable that the room wasn't ready, but the receptionist didn't offer any of the hotels facilities to us, or lunch, we were simply told to cone back later. This indicates the sort of service to be expected at a 3 star hotel, nothing special or welcoming, just standard. We booked an executive room, so we were disappointed to find such a small double bed. The room was spacious, but stuffy which made it uncomfortable. Our shower didn't work, and after attempts to fix it we were offered another room but declined as a bath was adequate and moving was an inconvenience. The restaurant food was nice, but like everything else nothing special. The dining room was lacking in atmosphere and character although the staff were friendly. The breakfast buffet was adequate. On checkout we were presented with the bill from another group who had been at dinner! In all I would not return, although the hotel is well positioned to visit Chester. The bus runs through Rossett, or a taxi costs roughly £15. Also we had a wonderful meal in the Golden Lion, I wish we had eaten there instead of the hotel in the evening!

    « Keep Coming back »

We have stayed here three times already this year and 5* each time. I am disabled so always have to check I can gain access to a room and the restaurant. Very apologetic about me having to go through the Spa, but I have no objection to this at all. All Staff very friendly and helpful; We booked DBB. We had a wonderful room with great toiletries - even had toothbrush and paste. As a retired Home Economist, I do love my food but have to be careful as not very mobile. The three course meal had obviously been cooked by a Chef and we both enjoyed it. The Steak and chips I had on another night were the best I have ever had but I had mine rare. My Husband had his medium and it was a bit disappointing but that was only one meal and no complaints at all about the other times, why do we always feel we have to state anything negative, bit unfair, I think. Do try the Chefs home made puddings, we had a different one every time and they were great. Breakfast was Self Serve but as I am disabled, the Staff always offered to get it for me. If I sat near the conservatory, I could scoot on in and help myself. (thanks Dionne for reserving the table). A lovely selection of fresh fruit. Only reasonable amounts out at any one time and kept getting fresh food. Only one selection of egg each morning but it was no problem if you wanted something else - poached instead of scrambled for example, but I was content with what was on offer. Great selection of herb teas too, great. The pool was lovely and I actually managed a bit of a splash (only time I can move about a bit as the water supports me). The Attendant kept an eye on me without being too intrusive. Are no disabled facilities as such, would not expect it in such a small area but I managed ok, with help. I always telephone to check ahead so am aware of what is available for me and make plans accordingly. Could access reception ok and the few light and airy rooms to the side. One of the chains around the edge of the lawns was removed for me so that I could have a tootle around the grounds. Nothing was too much trouble for the Staff, I often get patronised so it was so relaxing to be treated the same as everyone else. The last time we came we had such a warm welcome. Many thanks to Gemma, on Reception, lovely Lady, and Louise, Dianne etc. Must mention Dionne, who gave my Husband a hug on his birthday and Anthony who carried our cases and made sure we had everything we wanted. Thanks to all the other Staff who made our stay so enjoyable.

    « Great hotel »

I booked this hotel via secret escapes. I must admit I did read previous reviews and did think if it was only going to be a night I could put up with things which might be "not right". I was very pleasantly surprised. Our room (called Willow) was very big and in keeping with a country house with great views over the lovely and quirky and well kept gardens.( The garden furniture etc would work nice for wedding photos. ) A king size and very comfortable four poster bed and a large double corner jacuzzi style bath. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. That goes from the trainee waitresses to the reception staff. The meals which were included in my package were very nice and extremely well cooked and presented. The following morning a swim with a cooked buffet breakfast to start the day. My partner and I will certainly return here. For value and a relaxing country break I don't think Llyndir house can be beaten.

    « Friendly hotel »

We stayed at this hotel to celebrate my birthday. It was ideally placed for Chester. The staff could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable and surprised me with a treat at dinner. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly from reception to restaurant and bar staff.

    2
« Shabby Chic? No just very shabby »

I booked the Llyndir Hall hotel as a treat for my husband's birthday. We arrived quite late at almost 10 o'clock and headed straight to our room which was called Orchid and was located in the main part of the house. We opened the door and were hit by a waft of damp/mould which was unpleasant to say the least. Nevertheless as it was late we left our cases in the room and popped down to the bar. Whilst down there we asked what the Welsh breakfast was and to my surprise the waitress just turned and said 'its the same as an English breakfast but because we're in Wales we call it a Welsh breakfast', Horrified, we went to bed. Overnight we were kept awake by a loud knocking/banging that was coming from the plumbing and in the morning we started to get ready for the day ahead. Using the shower was tricky as it was a mixer shower and the unpredictable pressure made it hard to get the right temperature. The bathroom was large but badly maintained as there was mould around the sink and bath and the whole room was grimy. Breakfast was a self serve affair, apart from the tea/coffee choices. We went for coffee and walked into the conservatory to get breakfast. Available was orange juice (heavily watered down), apply juice (ridiculously sweet), cranberry or tomato juice. A small selection of cereals was on another table with two milk jugs, although neither were labelled so you'd need to guess skimmed/semi-skimmed. Next to that table was another with miniature croissants, danish pastry slices and a toaster along with some jam and marmite, finally some chafing dishes containing something resembling bacon, sausages, mushrooms, an empty one, tomatoes, baked beans and scrambled egg. I say resembling bacon because by the time you cut all the fat off there was barely any bacon left. To cut this review short, it was appalling. Fatty, lukewarm and incomplete, we ate what we could stomach quickly and went out for the day. The second day was actually worse although we had learned that the coffee (which was so bitter I think it was made of lemons) was best left in preference of tea. It's a shame really because the evening meal menu looked decent, unfortunately anyone who's eaten the breakfast isn't going back for dinner! The only saving grace for this hotel is the staff who are trying their absolute best to make a silk purse of of this sow's ear. It could be fantastic, it could be the perfect getaway but there is so much wrong here it's just naff. We won't be back, I'll be trying the Rossett Hall Hotel next time!!!

« Lovely Stay, friendly staff, and nice meal. »

We stayed for 3 nights and would certainly consider staying here again. We had a lovely large room on the ground floor and although it was a bit of a trek down the corridors it was nice and quiet, even though there was a function each night of our stay. There were several rooms to chose from to sit and relax and meet friends. The décor is a bit 'tired' and several fittings in our bathroom were loose, but that did not really detract from our visit. A really nice touch was a plate piped with birthday wishes and some chocolates when they realised that it was my birthday. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, I was just a bit disappointed with the cheese board.

« Very good second visit »

Just a one-night stay on the way home from Holyhead. As we would be arriving late we called ahead to book a table for dinner. Our room was large and well furnished and the complimentary wine was much appreciated. Dinner was excellent and well served. Breakfast was buffet style and appeared to be freshly cooked. The only egg available was scrambled although in retrospect perhaps had we asked we might have had fried eggs. Staff were friendly and efficient so all in all a very good stay.

    « Mrs Edwards »

Attended yesterday evening for a school event, staff & pupils. Room was decorated lovely and so we're tables. We were having a 3 course meal adults were £30 smaller portions were £15. All this was pre chosen and ordered. Some adults chose smaller portions (for their smaller appetite ). Well when food arrived I was a little bit shocked. On the melon starter there was a 5-6 cm long slither (or shall I say it looked like they had used a potato peeler) piece of a type of melon, then a piece 5-6 cm of watermelon and another tiny square of different melon, then on side of plate a pudding spoonful of a forest fruit type drizzle. Main course was 4 green beans that were no more than 5 cm long and we're about as thick as a pound coin, 3 florets of broccoli that were no bigger than a 2 pound coin, 4 thin slithers of carrot no longer than 5-6cm cm, one roast potato (that I had to ask for as they hadn't put it on plate) no bigger than a small plug, then the chicken which was around about the size of your middle finger and gravy. Dessert was a white chocolate and raspberry creme brullee, this was in a very small container, it was stone cold, the top wasn't crispy, the inside was ok, but there were tiny globules of white chocolate stuck to the bottom.... oh and I did find a raspberry (if only a tiny one) others didn't. Now all this cost £30 for an adult portion....... but the ones that ordered the £15 portions realised they were exactly the same size!!!!! And as for prices of drinks!!!!!! How can you justify £4 for a pint of coke/lime & lemonade.

    « Beautiful setting but .... »

First impressions of this hotel are great. Set in large gardens off a country lane, its location seems idyllic. Staff are friendly and rooms are well sized and clean, if not a little dark. The hotel has a pool which is free for residents. On closer inspection however, this hotel needs some TLC. The mixture of faux antique furniture and modern pictures doesn't really work. Carpets are not securely fixed down causing possible trip hazards; the toilet flush doesn't work properly and the window fixing in our room was missing so if the window was open there was the chance it would take off in the breeze. Breakfast was good but the restaurant menu in the evening was limited with items priced separately making some choices expensive. As the location of the hotel was fairly remote, you would need a car to go elsewhere in search of a meal. Toiletries were sparse but of good quality although replacement was a bit hit and miss as was the tea and coffee. By far the biggest let down was the infernal noise night and morning which appeared to come from the pump in the boiler room ( this is what someone told us but don't know if correct) whatever it was, it sounded in great need of maintenance or replacement. Would not stay here again.

    « Great stay »

We stayed as a family 2 adults 2 children, really big lovely room. The Hotel was immaculately clean and tidy, the grounds are beautiful too. Our children used the pool which was lovely. There's was a wedding at the hotel when we stayed so lots of people but it was still quiet and well managed. We had breakfast at around 8:30am it was very busy and the staff seemed very rushed the manager I think Siobhan? Was trying her best to keep everything in order, food coming out etc but my only criticism would maybe have a couple more staff on for breakfast when busy or train the waitresses a little more, they were all lovely but just so busy as I said there was a wedding on too. All in all great stay in a lovely Hotel would highly recommend and would certainly return. Thankyou for a lovely stay x

« Some of it nice and some of it not »

The three of us stayed here with friends for one night. I booked two rooms for ourselves and our friends and fortunately for us I checked the booking with the hotel a few days before arrival as I had not received a confirmation email and established that the hotel had only one room booked for us and nothing for our friends so they were able to reserve another room for luckily for us as we had checked on confirmation well in advance otherwise we would have been very upset had a room not been available when we arrived. The approach and the grounds to the hotel are lovely so we thought that we had chosen well. We checked in at reception which was easy and hassle free where the staff were polite and helpful. Our room (101) also called the orchid room was dark and had a musty smell. The carpet was worn and crinkled in places and had a 18th century feel about it which I think was intentional with the drapes and pelmet hanging over the bed the 40inch flat screen tv hanging from the wall confused the rooms statement. Although very large and spacious the whole thing needed brightening up and modernising. The bed was comfortable which is about the only good thing I can say positively although were very tired and could have slept anywhere and not complained. The bathroom was huge but the fittings let it down and the décor in need of renewal. The shower was very inadequate and very difficult to control using the taps on the bath which moved when you turned them and jammed against the wall tiles. There was no ventilation in the bathroom at all which made the room very humid and unpleasant to stay in. The window was jammed shut by paint and no extractor fan fitted. Breakfast is buffet with plenty for everyone. Hot or cold choices available and comfortable surrounds in which to eat. Would have been a lovely stay if the room had been in a better state of repair.

    « Fab Spa Day »

We had a fab Groupon Spa day here. Spent some time in the gym (the lighting could do with being a bit brighter) and then went for a relaxing swim. Next up was the afternoon tea which included a glass of Prosecco. The sandwiches were really tasty and the scones and cakes were really yummy. Our waitess was so friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome. Then we went for our treatments. I had a mini manicure and my friend had a facial. They were excellent. The surroundings are beautiful, all the staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all, we had a very relaxing time and we wouldn't hesitate to return. We had a brilliant time. Thank you Llyndir Hall.

    « Disappointing »

We were helping family to move house and just needed somewhere to say for a couple of nights. When my husband arrived to check in at 5pm he was told that we had been upgraded but when he went to the room, he found the bed unmade and dirty cups and glasses . He went back to reception as was reallocated a room in the old part of the hotel. The room was small but clean, however it was by the kitchen and there was a big fan just outside the window which was very noisy and did not go off until 11.30pm. We were then disturbed by the noise of them filling the bins and noise that sounded like someone moving furniture. We eventually got to sleep but at 6am the fans woke us up. The second night was a bit better, but were woken up at 5pm with the clatter of glass bottles being emptied into the bins, but the fan did not come on until 7am. The bath was fine but the shower was not so good. It was very difficult to adjust the water temperature and the spray was poor. We did not have breakfast the first morning but on the second morning we had breakfast which was ok! But the tables were a bit worse for wear and we had a mug on the table with a spoon in it, very continental but not what we expected in a hotel like this. On the plus side the hotel is in a lovely setting with well kept grounds.

« Lovely surroundings and great food »

Was taken here for a birthday treat including spa. Lovely old antiques/decorations dotted all around. Receptionist was lovely and helpful. Found chocolates and marshmallows int he room with an iced Happy Birthday message which was a nice touch. Pool only small but adequate for a dip, small sauna, same comments would apply. Bar only small and expensive prices but goes with the territory I suppose. Lovely evening meal, didn't look much as first on the plate, but was extremely filling. great service and same again at breakfast. Had a facial and back and neck massage in the spa, great service and very professional.very relaxing. Pool attendant was very helpful. Hotel was quite tucked away and would be helpful to be signed better from main roads, the postcode on my iPhone took us to an industrial building. Lovely gardens to sit out in and enjoy the sunshine. Cute ornamental animals dotted around, giant chess set outside and a huuuuggggeee chair inside for entertaining photos. Bed room was very modern decor and very comfy bed, shower was not the greatest but not problem in the big scheme of things. TV in bar and free wifi available.

The hotel was good, breakfast cost an extra £10 per person but that was good, well placed in Chester,if you travel by train across the road from station,The one upset, instructions to hotel car park, when I phones them from home, follow signs for station, turn in front of hotel go through an arch to your right with red board across the top saying queen hotel.park there come into hotel there is a charge of £10 per 24 hours, pay at hotel and not at machine.got onto car park noticed on the parking machine £10 per 24 hours, went into hotel was served by a person with not good English said I wanted to pay for car park was told £10 per 24 hours, she said yes paid paid for breakfasts seperate got home took receipts for parking from my bag to find have been charged £15 for parking.so be warned pay at the parking machine not direct with hotel they will rip you off by £5.that was the only down side, other than make sure people who work there understand perfect English.

    « Definitely a room for improvement »

Our room was unsatisfactory so we asked the evening manager for a change; which he could not do until the next day because they were full. So; we packed our bags in the morning, put them in the car and told the "morning" manageress that we would check in again after we had been to the zoo. She knew nothing about the room change; but would" try and sort it out". After a lovely day at the zoo we returned; and the evening manager informed us that the afternoon manageress had to go home early and had not left any notes about the change of room. Eventually we got a new room where the toilet did not flush properly and was next to what sounded like the boiler (noisy). At this point we blew a big raspberry, thought of John Cleese; and laughed. But, as frequent hotel guests, we will have second thoughts about using Best Western again. Full credit though to the waitresses who were very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I stayed at the BW Hallmark Llyndir Hall on as a stopover on the way back from our holiday in Anglesey, and loved it! The peaceful countryside location (with cows in the adjoining field!) added to the relaxed atmosphere, where nothing was of too much trouble to the staff. Whilst our room was quite compact - this wasn't really an issue, however the bed was on the small side (cosy could be another way to describe it!). Breakfast was delicious - and the amenities at the hotel were also of a good standard (great little pool and gym!). All in all very good, and would stay again if in the Chester area!

« Good value- bit 'tired' »

Cheap, friendly staff, nice grounds and overall well worth the cost. While building is lovely it is on the edge of becoming shabby as needs money spent on quite a few places. Our room while very spacious had various stains and tears on the carpet, bath was in real poor state and overall cleanliness not the best I've ever seen. Though to be fair not the worst either. Had issue with food, my wife had fish and chips and while eating it discovered there was plastic, like cling film, still on the fish under the batter. When we complained staff could not have been nicer, offered replacement and said there would be no charge for her meal. The other three meals were good. They also gave the four of us a free drinks voucher which we could use for any drink. So they dealt with issue promptly and well so no complaints there and the plastic was just one of these things. Good typical hotel breakfast. Quick call out to one staff member,Barbara she was lovely, helpful and very funny.

    « A relaxing Break »

The hotel is tucked in from the main road which makes it very quiet. The abundance of space around the hotel and the pool keeps the kids busy. Most of the attractions are within an hours drive from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Pleasant 2 night break »

Lovely grounds- Plenty of parking- Staff were helpful friendly and very obliging- And whilst certain necessities were missing in the room -just one call and within 10 minutes they were taken care of- After saying that things like soap should have been there without having to ask for it. For us oldies the bath shower unit needed a hand rail- Or I see a compensation suite waiting to happen. The AA rate it 3 star- That is spot on.

« Lovely grounds but let down by food and bedroom. »

We arrived full of hope on seeing the impressive drive and lovely grounds. However from then on it was disappointment following disappointment. Our room was a decent size but dark and gloomy and needed a complete makeover. We had to have all the lights on all the time to attempt to lighten the gloom. The beds were horrendous - springs poking through the mattress in some places. The bathroom was adequate, but the 'heated' towel rail wasn't heated and none knew how to correct this. Breakfast was the only near decent meal - a full English breakfast - unfortunately with a fruit salad that consisted mainly of apples and kept on being recycled as one of the choices of dessert in the evening meal. Dinner left a lot to be desired - minimal vegetables, strange sauces on the fish choice, in fact the only decent part of each of the 3 dinners we had there was the cheese option for dessert. If it hadn't been for the fact that we were staying for three nights with a small group and had paid for half board we would never have stayed for the 2nd and 3rd dinners. Service at mealtimes was slow but friendly and the staff in general were efficient and friendly. Just a pity the hotel and food were so poor. Avoid the noisy wedding parties at all costs!

« 3 nights on business - one of best hotels I've stayed at yet »

Stayed here on business whilst working nearby. This hotel is set in a beautiful spot away from the main road. Service was excellent. At dinner, the chef made me something that was not even on the menu, and main courses were fantastic at very reasonable prices. Very welcoming and helpful gent in the bar area dealt with every request I had and more. Room was great, very comfy bed and flat screen TV with plenty of channels. Powerful shower and plug socket next to the bed which is a must ij the day in age. Good gym, with machines and free weights. Only downside is that the wifi was weak in my bedroom. Will certainly return.

« Quiet location with peaceful views »

Hotel is located in a very quiet pleasant location. Nice touch to be upgraded on arrival to executive room, which was located at far end of hotel away from bar, function room and restaurant. problem with key card meant a number of return trips to reception to resolve. Leisure facilities are good with a large fitness suite and a reasonable swimming pool (altough quite narrow) and small sauna (seats 2/3). Staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is reasonable, 1st morning was menu, 2nd morning buffet, which was more preferable. Dinner however, is limited in choice and pricey. When visiting again would personally choose to dine elsewhere. Nice pub short drive away puts meals at hotel to shame Stayed May 2016, travelled as a couple

Really attentive and nothing too much trouble and he really made the afternoon a great success. The atmosphere in the hotel was lovely. A really enjoyable experience.

« Beautiful exterior, horrific interior! »

We recently stayed at the hotel as we needed to be in Wrexham early the following morning, so instead of travelling from Manchester we booked the hotel via booking.com as it had a 47% saving which was cheaper than the local Premiere Inn. However, despite the beautiful exterior, grounds & lounge/bar area, the interior is questionable and In need of a update. Upon arrival (late in the evening), Sean the receptionist who was really welcoming & personable, kindly offered us an upgrade from a standard double to the Orchard Suite. I'm not sure on the actual cost of the Orchard Suite, the double room we booked was £55 for the night (with the discount) however I'd contest paying that for the room we ended up with, never mind a standard double. The decor was tatty & out of date, stains on the carpet, dead flies on the Windows, mould around the bathroom and shower, dodgy blinds which wouldn't open (nor would the bathroom window) and broken lamps/lights! The worst part was not being able to shower as the mixer taps on the bath/shower were uncontrollable and either scolding hot or freezing cold, no in between.. Even though it might be tempting to stay here with the online discounts and Groupon deals, I'd recommend checking out other local hotels first.

« Sensibly priced little gem, exceptionally helpfu »

This hotel is a refreshing change from the mundane big chains, with fun sculptures and statues adding interest. My husband and I arrived on a Saturday night when a wedding was going on. We got to our room (room 19) and immediately noticed a loud throbbing, humming sound coming from an air vent in the ceiling. It was also directly above the wedding party. Popped to reception who sent someone to investigate straight away and then moved us to another room on the other side of the hotel. This was one of the 'Woodland' rooms and I would say these are possibly more recently furbished as they were brighter and fresher, and also blissfully quiet. Unfortunately I think the beds and bedding have all seen better days: the inevitable zip-lock beds (a real bugbear of mine but getting used to them) were slightly different heights and had quite a gap between - so much so that we checked they were actually zipped together. This meant there was a big ridge and gap in the middle of the bed. The pillows and duvet were hard, lumpy and not terribly clean - we did not get a good night's sleep as just couldn't get comfortable. The shower was very good though - nice and hot and super pressure. There is a small pool which was nice for a pre-breakfast dip but became crowded with more than 3 people swimming in it. We ate in the dining room on our first night and found the food to be slightly above average. The dining chairs were rather too soft so not comfortable for us for a long meal. Buffet breakfast on the Sunday morning was pretty mediocre, and spoilt by an unhelpful waitress telling me I should ignore my doctor's advice about what I can eat during pregnancy and refusing to ask the kitchen if they could cook me a separate breakfast due to a food allergy. What a difference the next morning - everything was cooked to order and nothing was too much trouble for the delightful staff. To conclude, I think this is potentially a very good hotel in a lovely location with fantastic, friendly, helpful and caring staff (with one exception) that is just let down a little by the quality of the soft furnishings - easily rectified.

« Great Hotel with a spooky history! »

We arrived at this charming looking hotel, set in an idyllic location, on the Welsh borders not really knowing what to expect. But we were very pleasantly surprised. Behind the front facade there lies comfort and a service second to none. We had originally booked for one night on a Groupon deal at £79 for two people. We were offered a "superior" double room over the phone at time of booking and were eager see what we got. Well, the room on the first floor was No. 107 with the delightful name of 'Laurel' (after the tree that was visible from the window). We later discovered that other adjacent rooms had equally arboreal names for similar reasons. The room certainly took us by surprise. A huge WOW factor. The bed was ginormous! you could've fitted more than just us two in it. The view into the garden was lovely and the en-suite bathroom and toilet was brilliant. Everything about the room was perfect and in addition to the two bottles of spring water provided, we also were given, as part of the deal, a voucher each for a free drink at the hotel bar. The hospitality was also faultless. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The pool in the separate spa building was small but still very welcome on the following morning when we went for a 'splash around'. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the gym. We were so enamoured with the hotel we decided to book a second night and after speaking with the reception desk, they very kindly agreed to do the second night for the same price as the first. We found plenty to do in and around the area, and a car is essential if you want to go further afield. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, albeit a short one, but the Llyndir hotel is definitely one that we would consider again if in the area. Oh, nearly forgot, our particular room had a spooky story to tell. Some long time ago raised voices were heard by a member of staff - a couple apparently having an argument. when the room door was opened, there was no sign of anybody there at all. Luckily neither of us heard anything during our particular stay. If you want to know more about this, then you'd better book a night or two and ask the duty manager.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights. Had the meal in the restaurant on the first night and that was outstanding!! Had a bar meal for lunch and a bar meal for tea on the 2nd night, was lovely- just waited a while, which let it down. Staff were lovely and friendly, especially the staff in the bar trying to resolve the problem! We had breakfast included for both mornings and that was great, good selection of hot and cold foods. Hotel decor was a bit dated but it was clean, so just purely cosmetic! The grounds were lovely and peaceful. The wait for the meal has let the overall stay down, which is a shame!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast with lots of choice. Decor a little tired in places but that is purely cosmetic and can be updated in time. Everything clean. Dinner in the restaurant was superb. Fabulous selection of wines, and unusual. Querky things around the grounds...brilliant. Was a wedding on, but the staff had sensibly put us in a room away from the action and we weren't disturbed at all. All round a great stay.

    « Great hotel »

We visited this hotel after purchasing a wowcher deal for a 2 night stay in an executive room. This included a 3 course dinner on the first night and breakfast on both mornings. The first room we were allocated (holly) was situated over the kitchen with a noisy generater outside the room. As I am a very light sleep I asked if I could be moved to a different room. Louise on reception was very helpful and arranged for us to be moved to room 48 which was an amazing room. It was a really big room with a massive bed and nice and quite outside the room aswell. The room was very well presented and clean. There was a hairdryer in the room and plenty of plug sockets available aswell. We booked dinner for 7pm on the first evening, which was a 3 course meal. I had the mushroom brushetta to start, the feather of beef for main and the mint aero cheesecake for pudding. All courses were absolutely amazing. Couldn't fault the food at all. The staff in the restaurant were very attentive. Breakfast in the morning was beautiful there was a good selection of cold and hot items to choose from cooked to order. We used the gym which was well facilitated and we looked at the swimming pool which looked nice but we didn't get a chance to use it. Annie on the bar was very friendly and helpful in telling us about places to go out in chester. All in all we had a lovely stay in this hotel and would definately come back again. Thanks to all the staff who made our stay enjoyable

    « Mediocre stay »

I must say my rating would be between 2 and 3 but there are not middle points on here. We had a 2 nights stay there during the Easter weekend and had the luck to have 2 weddings (one for each day). The reception staff welcomed very friendly and gave us a room away from the noise. Room was a think an executive (not sure) it was ok for space but really cold and view not great (unless you like bushes). we had to ask to have more tea bags, shower gel and shampoo as that was only one (and we were two). A main corridor was connecting a lot of different area (bathroom, kitchen, bar, restaurant, wedding venue) so you really need to be careful to walk, my partner almost clashed twice with a waiter serving dishes. Breakfast was ok...not great and also i couldn't have a chance to have an espresso (they said we don't do it) REALLY??? Dinner in hotel was great (also included in the deal) and the woman that served us was very charming...not remember her name if was Julie or Diane...but she was the best. Steak was amazing and great choice of red wine. Spa area was ok. Gym was big but leisure area not much. Swimming pool L shaped (i guess there was a jacuzzi in the middle but was covered permanently. Shower to access was cold and almost front of the small dry sauna (max 3 people in) and no steam room. Changing room not big and also need a pound coin if you want close it, free towel if you are resident. Must say i would expect much more for Best Western located outside of the City. Not impressed for sure.

    « A wonderful secret of Wales. »

The drive into the grounds were lovely, a real eye opener. The reception staff are so polite and helpful. The suite we stayed in was spectacular with a large double size Jacuzzi for good measure. The room was clean and neat. The spacious room was not what I expected and the four poster bed was so comfortable. The spa was just what was required with a tidy gym and lovely pool. The food on the menu was very pleasant and well presented. I must mention the gluten free afternoon tea made a nice change and we were well catered for, as the dinner menu. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice. This hotel must be one of best value for money places we have visited and all the staff were so polite and could not do enough for us. Please visit this gem.

    « Lovely Hotel - mediocre food »

The hotel is set in lovely countryside close to Chester with easy access to Wales and other points of interest. The check in was simple with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was large clean and fresh. The beds were quite firm but comfortable. It had a large bright bathroom with bath and over shower which worked well. Unfortunately the window had no view and only allowed very little light into the room due to the dense bushes and trees less than two metres from the window. Consequently the lights were on at all times day or night whilst in the room. Internet facilities worked well enough for our needs. Breakfast was fairly low average fayre for Best Western hotels. Evening meals are expensive and uninspiring in the restaurant. Bar meals had limited choice too. Several guests ate out in the evening as we did too on one night.

    « Birthday Night Away (age 34) »

I booked this hotel quite blindly at the last minute on a dinner/bed/breakfast basis for my birthday. The appearance of the hotel is absolutely lovely, the lady at reception was very helpful, chatty and efficient. We were given the information we needed and directed to room 10. The room was absolutely lovely, very spacious with a lovely large bathroom. There was a bottle of lovely prosecco and two glasses waiting in ice for me in the bedroom (part of the Wowcher offer) The room contained a table and two chairs just under the window, and we still had a lot of room. I'm normally in a rush to get out of hotel rooms because I can't stand being in small spaces but I was more than happy sat drinking my prosecco in the room. The meal was outstanding, I had the bruschetta followed by the seabass (amazing) and the most gorgeous white chocolate dessert followed by a large cheeseboard. The restaurant staff couldn't do enough to help and were very professional. There was a wedding at the hotel that day (we were told when we booked that there may be noise from the evening disco which ends at midnight) the wedding party had their own area and private bar and it didn't impact on our visit at all. The music could be heard from our room but didn't bother us as it ended at midnight. I got a lovely peaceful nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, buffet style with other options that could be ordered from the kitchen. The food was hot, plentiful with many options including full English/fruit/toast/cereal/pastries. I will most definitely be returning, hopefully with try out the spa next time. I am so impressed with my experience I will be enquiring about using the hotel as a wedding venue, hopefully it can be hired exclusively. Can't believe it is three star, it's definitely more 4 star, especially with the service.

« In lovely rural setting, easy to get into Chester »

We visited this hotel using our Tesco points., and so we were concerned we may be treated as second class citizens ! No need for concern. The hotel is set in lovely grounds and is impressive when entering up the driveway. We were greeted very warmly at reception, no problem with Tesco points ! We arrived at 12 noon, expecting to have to wait some time as check in is at 2pm. However a quick phone call to Housekeeping and our room was ready. We were on the ground floor in room no 26. A very big room and a good sized bathroom. The room was a little on the dark side, but we only looked out over a grassy area with some trees and shrubs. Total privacy and very peaceful. We stayed for two nights and the room was serviced each day. There was a flat screen tv, tea & coffee facilities and a hairdryer. Breakfasts were very good. plenty of fruit and cereals, fruit juice, yoghurt, full cooked breakfast, all buffet style, toast and marmalade etc. I did notice that one lady ordered porridge and another ordered an omelette, both looked good. The restaurant was very pleasant, with plenty of natural light and good furnishings. We had a meal in the bar one evening. This was a good quality bar meal. All the staff were attentive and very friendly. The lounge had plenty if arm chairs and settees, but all of them were well past their best, and this room generally could do with refurbishment. The spa area was very small, and probably shouldn't be described as a spa ! There was a small, but perfectly adequate swimming pool. We like to swim lengths, which we were able to do but probably not if more than two were in the water. There were some loungers around the pool, and a small sauna. There was also a treatment room, but I didn't use it. The gym was spacious and appeared to be well equipped. The changing room is also in need of refurbishment. The showers were adequate, but the floor tiles were stained and gave the impression of being dirty...........which they weren't. There was no changing cubicle for anyone wanting a bit of privacy, and a spin dryer for wet swimsuits would be a good addition. I actually opted to shower etc back in our bedroom. This hotel is rated as 3 star, but I would suggest that 3+ is more accurate, especially with a bit of refurbishment here and there. It takes about 20 mins to drive into Chester, but there is also a very good park and ride service a couple of miles away. We drove into Chester one day and never again !! It isn't very car friendly, and parking is very expensive. The park and ride is £2 per person and is an excellent service, buses were every 10 minutes.

« Beautiful hotel, shame about the noise »

Currently sat in our room but might as well be sat in the middle of the wedding reception going on downstairs - we're able to sing along to the lyrics as it's that loud. Having just rung up to complain as the music keeps going up and pointing out it would have been nice to know a wedding was on that weekend on booking, I am told by Diane that most hotels have weddings at weekends. So, let's get this straight - if you stay in a hotel you can expect booming, loud music that prevents you properly hearing your TV. Assuming, of course, you know it's a wedding venue in advance. Thanks. It's a lovely old building but the walls are thin and it's too small to stay if you're not a part of the wedding party. Our room wasn't available. Arrival although we were an hour early at 1pm. At 2pm we were asked to wait a bit longer although to be fair they did give us 2 £5 vouchers for the restaurant as an apology. We don't be back.

« Beautiful Grounds, shame about the Spa! »

I booked a Wowcher one night BB&D here, we were welcomed and shown to our room, which was large, tidy and clean. One bedside light didnt work and we reported it but no one came to replace the bulb. A hook was required on the bath room door - only two little things but would have made a difference if someone had sorted these out. There was always plenty of hot water. We visited the Spa and were extremely disappointed....... the pool is tiny only room for two to swim, and a tiny sauna, however both were working and warm. The floors of the pool area changing room and sauna had blue ( non slip) plastic matting which had very curly edges and was more of a risk than none. The showers looked grubby - I didnt bother. We had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed this very much, our deal included a glass of bubbly, there was a good menu choice and served beautirfully. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Next morning breakfast was CHAOTIC, there was only one waitress on duty and she had to welcome us all, bring tea & coffees, bring special orders, clear tables and check the buffet was filled ......which it wasnt. There were plenty of complaints, and I gathered usually there is waiter service which we prefer. Had breakfast been better I would have given a better rating,. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and set in a very tranquil area. Rossett, a small village only 5 minutes away is worth a visit, see a lovley 17C house by the river and plenty of places to eat & drink. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would return ......on a voucher but not pay the full rate.

« Not what it said on the tin »

We bought a two night stay on Groupon for this spa hotel - my Husband has been very poorly recently and I thought it would be good for us to both get away. Driving up to the hotel it looks really impressive but once through the doors it was tired and very shabby. We were very disappointed with the spa facilities (very small pool and even smaller sauna - no bubble pool). The gym was well equipped and was kept very clean. Our room was on the ground floor and was very dark and in need of some major refurbishment (the net curtains were really filthy). There were no instructions on how to operate the TV or the CD/alarm player that was provided at the side of the bed. Although we bought a two night stay we discovered we were only entitled to an evening meal on the first night which was a huge disappointment as this added to the cost of the weekend break (we also had to pay a further £35 supplement because our break included a Saturday). So from an initial cost of £159.00 for the weekend we actually ended up paying out well over £200 taking into account our evening meal at a local pub on the Saturday (not such a great Groupon bargain). The food in the restaurant was lovely - our waitress took our order and asked if we wanted any extra veg - we both said no but were persuaded when she leaned into the table and told us "it won't look a lot on the plate without it" - we agreed to have it and were then charged nearly £8 extra for the pleasure !!!! There was a wedding and a 50th birthday party being held during our stay - the bar area for residents was very small and very very quiet - it could have done with some form of entertainment or even background music. Because of the additional people attending the parties parking was a real issue. I wouldn't recommend the hotel but want to say that the staff we encountered during our stay were absolutely lovely.

I popped into the Llyndir to do some work and have a coffee after an accident had closed the A483 nearby. The welcome was warm, the coffee strong and the WIFI excellent. On a sunny Spring day it was a shame I couldn't linger longer to enjoy the facilities. The grounds looked particularly lovely. Hope to return for lunch, at the very least, when I'm next in the area.

« Nice hotel.shame about the spa facilities!! »

Visited this hotel for a groupon spa visit with lunch. On approach we were suitably impressed with beautiful grounds, lovely old hotel . Unfortunately that first impression didn't last long. This is our third groupon spa visit to different hotels this month, and unfortunately this just didn't measure up. On arrival we were directed to"spa", which basically consists of a cold swimming pool and an extremely small sauna, instead of a fluffy bathrobe, we were given some grubby grey towels. The changing facilities are in desperate need of update, tired battered lockers with broken locks, a toilet with a dodgy lock that wouldn't open for my daughter until I used a coin from the outside!! The showers were mouldy with water dripping from fitments even when turned off, just a general air of neglect, certainly not a pampering area. When we asked if we could book treatments at the spa we were told we couldn't contact the therapists direct even though the rooms were in front of us, we had to phone them, then after several calls to them, and some failed promises to call us back they couldn't fit us in although we were the only people there! The food provided was no better, stale sandwiches and defrosted cakes! If you are looking for a spa day please try somewhere else, doubletree Hilton, or Carden park much much better

« Nice hotel but evening meal was very disappointing! »

Our daughter bought us a 2 night stay including evening meal. On arrival we thought hotel was in a lovely setting, check in was very efficient and our room was lovely, very spacious and very clean . The evening meal was very disappointing, my husbands Soup was Luke warm, I just had bread so not much to go wrong there! We then waited quite a while for our main course, my husband had the fish which was very overcoooked and the skin was hard and tough , I had pork cooked 2 ways which was just ok , dessert wasn't much better baked apple which was hard ! Yes I know we should have complained at the time, however I did feel sorry for the waitress who was bearing the brunt of 2 more guests complaining that their dessert was still frozen and that they were extremely disappointed with the meal. Breakfast however was a different story everything you needed for continental. If you wanted a hot breakfast you could order whatever you wanted and didn't have to wait too long. We would definitely return to the hotel but maybe only on a bed & breakfast basis.

« Relaxing and great food »

After check in we used the swimming pool which was clean and relaxing before getting dressed for dinner. We had an amazing three course meal and slept like logs. The following morning we enjoyed freshly prepared breakfasts served by Fiona and we're given helpful advice from staff on what local attractions to visit.

« Two night break to visit our Grandchildren »

This Hotel is in a lovely setting ideal for visiting our Grandchildren, but our room was very dissapointing, very small in need of a refurbishment, window did not open very well and a very noisy fan below us from the kitchen, the light had about 4/5 dead flies in the glass shade, safety handle on the wall of the bathroom loose and tile cracked ,. The first night we had a lovely meal in the restaurant all food hot and waitress very efficient but on the second night the meal was awful after waiting nearly 3/4 of an hour we were presented with a Luke warm meal a vegetable was missed out which I mentioned the waitress, she bought it out in a small dish and it was a very cold congealed mess I sent it back to say it was cold only to be told it was served cold, fortunately a couple on the next table had the same meal which the vegetable was served on their plate nicely presented and warm!! We complained and the waitress gave us a discount but we were very disappointed, we will try this hotel another try and hopefully be able to get a better room next time the receptionist advised to ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel as the older rooms have a lot if issues, I would refuse to stay in the room we had called Ash absolutely dreadful.

    « Good wedding »

Stayed at Llyndir Hall as I was attending a wedding there. The wedding was at 1pm so I was hoping to check in around midday. I phoned the hotel to enquire about checking times to be told it was 2pm. I explained that I was attending a wedding at the hotel and travelling over an hour to get there so an earlier check in would be good. I was told it would cost an extra £10/hr to do this. It wasn't so much the money but the attitude (rude) of the person I was speaking to that made me decide not to go for the earlier check in. But, in hind site, if wedding guest are staying in the hotel should they not be allowed an earlier check in? Even if it is only an hour. I have stayed at other hotels where the wedding has been held and there has been no problem checking in earlier. It's not cheap staying here and the drinks are very pricey. So, the positives are, hence the 4 rating: hotel is set in nice grounds. The wedding was really good. Food was good. Room was good. Would I stay there again? Only if it was a special occasion or if someone else was paying!

    « Never judge a book by it's cover »

As you drive up to the house, the sheep on the lawn catch your eye until you realize there not moving. The reception is warm and friendly and the house itself is nicely decorated. The staff are friendly and willing to help in any way. The rooms are small and in need of upgrading and have no view at all apart from hedges and trees. We stayed a Friday night and had a choice of rooms, however the main rooms are in need of a major upgrade and clean so we stayed in a double with a foldout bed for our daughter. We didn't go into the restaurant but had dinner at the bar which was excellent, very tasty and good value. The price was high for what we got, regarding the room but the food was good value.

« Afternoon Tea in Style »

Just back from a fabulous Afternoon Tea Experience at Llyndir Hall. Bought a Groupon The staff were very helpful & the little pool & cosy sauna was very relaxing. The Afternoon Tea itself was divine, particularly the carrot cake, even had decaf tea which is a treat for me & it was a beautiful room with a view. Anthony, our waiter, was fantastic & made sure we had everything we needed & was very polite. Well done, I would highly recommend the experience.

« Quiet Location but good transport links to tourist attractions »

Spacious & clean room with a large comfortable bed, pleasant & helpful staff, food was good but limited choice. A great hotel for our Easter Break set in beautiful grounds with the added bonus of an indoor pool.

    « Mixed experience »

Good location for access to numerous places of interest. Bedroom large and comfortable though a little dark. Bathroom basic. Bit stingy with the toiletries and tea and coffee but supplied extra on request. Cleanliness good standard. Restaurant nice atmosphere, however, menus confusing. We had different menus where one included vegetables another didn't ! Waitress not sure whether main course included vegetables had to check? No prices so not sure what we were paying. We asked to see bar menu, as we had in other hotels with no problem, but were told we had to eat elsewhere if we wanted the bar menu! Asked to leave the restaurant.....a little embarrassing! The restaurant has AA rosette award but was let down by luke warm food on cold plates, waitress who could not tell us what the courses were!... "a mushroom thing!!" 2nd night ate in the bar and ordered a meal, only to be told 10 minutes later that some items were not on the menu but it hadn't been changed, which included our choice. Seems the staff were confused in restaurant and bar about the meals. The breakfast, was good and hot and fresh with a lot of choice cereals, fruit, juices, toast yogurt, croissants, cheese cold meat. The only let down of the breakfast if I was being picky was the fruit was tinned or dried and not fresh but that's just personal preference. A nice hotel with a good reputation and also for weddings. We just felt the confusion around the menus let it down a little and the bar and lounge was a little lacking in atmosphere for our taste. Was a comfortable room but not sure we would return because of the experience around the restaurant and bar food.

« Not the best Best Western »

We have stayed in many Best Western hotels around the UK and this was the least pleasing to date. That said, it was by no means a disaster. The executive room was large, clean and quiet, being situated in the Woodlands area and close to the leisure suite which suited me. The Hotel itself seems to be going through a bit of an identity crisis, being part grand old lady and part modern wannabe with incomprehensible modern daubs of large paintworks interspersed with severe portraiture! The staff who were there worked very hard, were polite and nothing was too much trouble, but staffing levels were at the heart of the problem -either that or conferences and upcoming weddings put too much strain on them - there appeared to be staff shortages, particularly in the kitchen - cooked breakfasts on 2 mornings were unacceptably slow - the 3rd morning, it was entirely cold and hot buffet and we wondered if someone had used their initiative and decided that as they didnt have the staff to promptly cook to order, this was a better alternative, but we were informed it was due to there being a morning conference ongoing. For the remainder of the week, it was buffet service all the way and this seems a much better way. The spa area is a little disappointing - only a small pool and very small sauna, but it enabled me to keep up exercise in the gym and relax afterwards. Overall we probably wouldn't return to this hotel, but perhaps if your expectations are not skewed by experience of other BW hotels, you will find this everything you would wish for.

    « An unexpected adventure »

Well, this could take a while - it all started when we entered the room to find it hadn't been made up. But first I have to say that every single member of staff we encountered were polite, helpful, friendly, professional A free drink in the bar later and our bags were moved. A lovely large room on ground floor, big bathroom and garden view. However, the very squeaky floors and thin walls meant it was so noisy, sleep was impossible while anyone else was awake. We moved to our 3rd room! Ash, on 1st floor can only be described as the naughty guests room. It's tiny, more single sized than double, the same noisy floor boards and to top it all above the kitchen so the extractors made it sound like sleeping on a ferry. Awful. Back in reception before 8 after no sleep asking for another room, but non available. Hang on though the original room must be empty, can we have that?? We waited until 2pm for the key but our bags were moved and we had come full circle. Room 15, huge room with big bathroom on 1st floor with quiet floor boards and a really comfortable bed. The water was off for a time due to maintenance, shower a bit temperamental, crows very noisy in the morning, towel rail didn't work along with one of the side lamps..... This hotel badly needs some maintenance, care, attention and upgrades and would then be amazing as it has character, large rooms, picturesque grounds and the best staff.

    « Exquisite meal »

This is our second visit here, first time was for our sons' wedding last May, and we stayed the night, last night we went along for a meal in the restaurant, but didn't use accommodation. I have to say, the service and the meal were second to none. The best meal we've had in a very long time and the girls were so pleasant and attentive. Lovely relaxing atmosphere, great background music. It was a fantastic start to our Easter break. We are definitely going to book the restaurant again. Thank you for a very pleasant evening.

« Afternoon tea and spa access »

I don't usually leave reviews but here is abit if a mixed one. On arrival to the spa we were given a towel and no robe and told it was £5 for a robe even though I had booked treatments which was ridiculous. We weren't told where anything was and didn't know where the changing rooms where. And when we asked the guy on reception just shouted! In the changing rooms there was no cubical for getting changed so no privacy really. Going in to the changing room and pool We tripped twice on some plastic matting that was curled up at the edges. There was also a dip in the floor in the pool entrance that we fell in to. Very dangerous! The furniture around the pool was old and the tables were dirty with tea stains or something. Once in the pool we saw mold or something around the edges so I got out straight away. The mirrors were also dirty. On leaving the pool we noticed a small sauna and sun bed which was disappointing as we didn't even know it was there as nobody told us, We would have used it otherwise. I think if the guy in reception has told us what and where everything was then it would have been alot better. The cream tea was lovely, lovely food and cakes with some prosecco and our waiter Anthony was lovely, very well mannered and helpful, nothing was too much trouble which more than made up for the spa experience. Thank you Anthony. I also had a lovely treatment in the beauty salon with Lauren who was lovely and did me an amazing treatment with gorgeous products. Really enjoyed it. So overall was a nice day apart from the spa bit, I think the pool and mirrors in there could do with a good scrub and that on arrival to the spa a quick tour wouldn't go a miss as its not a big place it would take a minute tops.

    « Spa letdown »

Booked for overnight stay with dinner, breakfast and spa access,we also booked for cream tea,the staff were friendly and welcoming.we went to reception to book spa treatments,to be told spa is separate from the hotel,we phoned number given but they could'nt fit us in for treatments as it was a training day.the information is totally misleading nowhere on the web site does it say you need to pre book treatments,it is advertised as part of hotel.

    « Very enjoyable stay »

Picked up a bargain stay via travelzoo for the Hall, check in was smooth, room not huge but high quality, one or two minor niggles toilet handle loose, non working TV remote, had decent bar meal upon arrival, Hotel is 215 yrs old, so somewhat quirky layout, but has lots of character, grounds are fabulous as are the views, Had truly superb evening meal, lovely food served quickly by friendly and excellent staff, breakfast the following day was also very good, on the whole, at the right price i would without hesitation recommend this hotel.

    « Family weekend away »

Spent 1 night here after friends bought me a best western voucher for my birthday. We thought we'd have a nice family weekend with a show on Saturday & a fun day out on the Sunday. On arrival we were told we were unable to use our Voucher as we booked through booking.com (there was no availability directly hence why we booked this way). No where on the voucher did it state you couldn't use the voucher if booked this way. The hotel manager came & said please enjoy our stay anyway & they would help sort it following our stay but implying we would need to pay using another method. Check in therefore took over 1hour. They gave us 2 drinks vouchers to use in the bar. We took our little girl swimming in the pool which was small but nice & warm & she enjoyed it. I went for a back massage which we pre booked which was also good. After we swam we went back to our room to shower before our evening meal.....the shower did not work! We rung reception & someone swiftly attended. However no joy & due to a wedding party & it being Saturday night we were told there were no other free rooms. The towel rail also didn't work so it was cold in the bathroom. We were brought 3 more drinks vouchers in way of an apology & attempted to run a bath which took 45minutes due to very low water pressure! The bath I might add was no where near full after this time. We went out to a local pub to eat & returned to the lounge at the hotel to enjoy a drink....to be told you couldn't use the drinks vouchers on a large glass of wine & would have to pay the difference. The receptionist happened to be present & allowed us to enjoy our drinks without an additional cost. Both myself & my husband did not sleep well as we were both concerned with how we were going to deal with check out & settling the bill. Morning & another 45 minutes to run a bath for a quick freshen up! Breakfast was buffet style & was good with the usual choice on offer. On check out we did not complain or make a fuss but mentioned our shower problem when asked how our stay was. They did accept our voucher as part payment & discounted the rest due to our problems with the shower which we felt was fair. Overall we felt the staff were polite but our stay was disappointing due to a number of issues.

    « Llyndir Hall, Rossett »

We stayed here 14th - 16th March 2016 having booked via Best Western website. At the time of booking we made it known that we both have walking difficulties. Upon arrival we were allocated room 23 on the ground floor which suited us perfectly. The hotel is a little quirky, but we loved it and the staff were super helpful. The food in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner was excellent.. Great little hotel for a short break

    « One Night Stay. »

We used a Groupon offer for one nights stay here. We had a 3 course evening meal and a breakfast included which was great! The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 was due to the place could do with a bit of an update. The room was nice and spacious but again just needs a bit of a modern touch and the mattresses need softening but that's just my personal opinion!

    « Afternoon tea. »

Got bought a voucher for afternoon tea by my daughter as a birthday present, could have used the spa as well but we didn't have time. Spoke to the receptionist on arrival, who was both polite and efficient and quickly showed us to our table. The waiter arrived very soon after with a glass of Prosecco each, shortly followed by our food. Four types of sandwich, eight cakes (each) and a coffee or tea to wash it down. We made the most of the pleasant afternoon and stayed for about an hour and a half. Having never been for an afternoon tea before I was pleasantly surprised, food was good and the staff were polite and efficient.

    « New Year Dinner »

Never expected the food to be so good for such a large number of people. The lighting excellent cocktails to start were great. Brilliant atmosphere with excellent service from the staff who looked after us so well. We had a great time . Really good breakfast in the morning. Well done Llyndir Hall.!! We would'nt hesitate to book for New Year again.

    « Relaxing stay »

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 nights Sunday-Tuesday. The location is lovely and was perfect for visiting Chester and North Wales. Really nice hotel and setting and the staff were very friendly. Only problem we had was that the bed was not very comfortable but we would definitely stay again and would recommend.

« Friendly staff, great food, and comfy rooms, all set in lovely grounds. »

The Llyndir Hall offers a superb location for venturing into North Wales or Chester and for business its ideal for many of the industrial estates around Wrexham. Its situated in Rossett, and the hotel has lovely grounds surrounded by fields. The Hotel is not a modern hotel, but has a lot of charm. The staff are always friendly and always happy to go the extra mile. The food in the bar is lovely with a good selection, and for that special meal the restaurant offers some fine dining. Really perfectly cooked and presented with care. Perfect hotel for a weekend away, a weekday business trip.

    « Fantastic Hotel »

We stayed here to visit Chester Zoo. Which is just a short drive away. Also very near to Chester city centre. A lovely hotel very good food. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. A fantastic hotel we would be very happy to stay here again.

« Nice place to stay »

Lovely location, but a bit dated inside, and the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Needs a bit of TLC. The hot water for the shower took ages to arrive, and then it was uncontrollable, and too hot!

« Lacking attention to detail »

We stayed in Executive room 41 in this hotel expecting a bit of luxury. The room was nice, large and clean - however, on arrival there was no soap in the bathroom, the extractor fan didn't work (bathroom completely steamed up after shower), the plastic seal on shower screen fell off, soaking the bathroom floor. The valance on the bed was ripped spoiling the appearance. On our second morning we found the milk hadn't been replenished. Having said all this, we did enjoy our stay, restaurant and food were nice and the waiting staff were very good, and very friendly. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, the gardens are quite spectacular.

my wife and I thought we would treat ourselves for our 50th wedding aniversary so we chose llyndir hall what a inspired choice. lovely friendly staff , excellent meals , a brilliant gym and pool and the best bit was when they found out why we were there we received a upgrade to the bridal suite . it almost made me get ask my wife again so we could go back in time . many thanks to steven and his staff

    « Bad start,good recovery »

Our weekend got off to a terrible start with some of the worst restaurant service I have ever encountered. However the rest of our stay was very good, the bedroom was comfortable and very clean, the staff were all friendly and attentive, the food including breakfast was above average. As soon as management heard of the incident on the Friday night they handled it in a professional manner. Things do go wrong,it's how they are dealt with that matters,in this instance Ross apologized and we are looking forward to using the hotel again on our next visit to Chester. Well done Ross and Gemma.

    « Spacious rooms »

Rooms are generously sized, bed firm and very comfy. Bathroom had an over the bath shower which was the only downside since it was fitted by that dwarf plumber who gets many hotel contracts. If you are over about 5'8" you won't be able to stand under it. Wifi was good and free, no passwords required. Phone signals very limited. We were with a organised party with pre ordered food from a menu which was terrific. Tempura prawns and the beef brisket very nicely done. Service was attentive. Beer and wine choices from the bar very limited, no cask ales. We didn't use the spa or pool which is probably one of the main points of this hotel as a retreat, especially with that poor phone reception you can escape. Breakfast had a good buffet selection but no the fastest at refilling as no bacon left when I was there.

« Decent restaurant, friendly staff, and not much else »

There seems to be confusion over the star rating of this place, I was under the impression it was 4*, but on arrival I spotted the certificate stating 3*. We booked an executive room, however we were initially put in the smallest standard room available. After speaking to reception we were moved but this was also a standard room, not the executive we booked. We were to be greeted with champagne in our room, but that was not there and we had to ask twice for this. The bed is not a double bed but two singles, with two single mattresses, so comfortable, but not really adequate. Shower dripped constantly, as did the hot tap, and the cold tap had a very poor pressure. Sink was also very, very low, which made shaving a little challenging. Spa and pool area was lovely, however very small, the pool was perhaps 10m at its longest, jacuzzi had been closed over, however the pool area was beautifully decorated. Restaurant had a very limited menu. A choice of four starters, four mains and four desserts. The food was absolutely delicious however, and the waiting staff were fantastic. At breakfast, I went through at least 15 bowls before finding a clean one, and faced the same problem with the plates. Much of the cooked breakfast had gone, and we had to ask and then wait before getting some items. A nice hotel, with great staff, but the rooms were not really as advertised. My partner and I regularly spend nights at hotel and spas around Cheshire, and I will not be visiting the Llyndir Hall hotel and spa again I am afraid. There are much better hotels around the area.

« Sumptuous food, friendly staff and beautiful grounds. »

After reading some of the reviews, I was terrified I had wasted money on a Groupon deal to stay here. Good: the food is incredible. Bar snacks are the best I have had, dinner on the first night was sumptuous and when I didn't want my pudding because although tasty, it wasn't what I expected, I was given a huge pot of fresh coffee! Breakfast was full English along with continental, quality was outstanding. Staff are great. Can't do enough for you and are so pleasant, changed rooms for us in the middle of the night as our room was centrally heated and we can't sleep with the heating on. Grounds: beautiful. More like a 4 to 5 star hotel. Bad: not really bad but not as good, the decor in some of the rooms is dated. It's still clean and the bedding is crisp and fresh, fluffy towels and comp biscuits. Overall, I would certainly stay here again, Worth every penny ??

    « Wedding »

If you want a wedding day to remember. Llyndir hall will certainly do that.. But for all the wrong reasons. I got married here last year and I can honestly say choosing to put my special day in there hands was a huge mistake. Things went wrong from start to finish alarm bells should have rung in my head when I got a rude response from the wedding coordinator when I just wanted to book my wedding in the first place. but the main thing was that They are clearly incapable of notifying the correct people when a wedding is cancelled as I was addressed as a different bride the day before and even by the DJ as he was to introduce us for the first dance. Asking for the manager from 6am I finally saw him at 9pm. Another member of staff even said he was more concerned about the party he had booked in than my wedding. I was made to feel very uncomfortable and my day certainly didn't matter to them. I feel very let down by Llyndir hall and my day was certainly ruined here. Myself and my now husband are that upset and disappointed we are contemplating renewing our vows.

    « Restaurant disaster »

We are staying at the hotel as I speak. Nice room and more than happy so far,I will write a review on Monday when we leave. BUT OH DEAR, our first night in the restaurant was very disappointing. 1. left with wrong menu for ten minutes 2. drink came with no ice 3. thirty minute wait for main course which was worth the wait(delicious).4. in that time we where never offered more drinks nor during the meal were we asked if we were alright 5 dispite being quiet we only saw a member of staff when our meal was brought at wich stage we asked for a wine list 6. half way through the meal the wine list arrived and I ordered 5. finished the main course, decided to give up on any kind of service stood up to leave and as we did so the waitress came across and asked if we had received the wine list NOOOOO! At this stage we expressed our displeasure cancelled our reservation for tonight and tomorrow night and returned to our room. The whole incident took between 6.30 and 7.30 while the restaurant was still quite. We expected a manager to contact us in out room to discuss what had happened .That didn't happen. We shall shortly be going for breakfast on day 2. I shall keep you informed

« If you cant like the hotel, then your the problem not the hotel! »

Stayed here end of Feb on a travel zoo deal. Check in was easy and hastle free, I had called earlier in the week to order flowers in the room for my wifes birthday, to my disapointment, the florist hadnt been to deliver, but this was through no fault of the hotel as I understand. The room which we were given an executive room was sufficient to our needs, very nicely furnished, a few niggles here and there, but i wasnt there to do a room survey! Bed was comfortable, tv with various channels that worked, free wifi was acctually better than i excpected! Prosecco was delivered to the room, which was a noce touch. The bar was well stocked, plenty of variety of beers and wine, prices, probably about average for a hotel. £4 a pint of lager, we pay that locally, so i would say fair! The food, now this is a little gripe of mine. If you are staying and dining at the hotel, and your not rushing off to a late night business meeting, your favourite tv programme is on or any thing else that you need to rish away from the hotel for, then have a bar meal! If like me and my wife when we visited, you want to chill and enjoy your time drinking a nice glass of wine (I recommend the chilian merlot with your steak), then really, what is the rush? We had absolutely no problem with the service of the food, it came when it was cooked, and when it came it was lovely. My steak was out of this world, as were the scallops starter. The breakfast, served 8-10 on weekends, we went for 9, and there was ample food left, still being replenished at various times and the choice was good. To me the choice is simple, if you want a nice relaxed laid back night, then dont come here wanting to rush away! For what we paid for the night stay with the food we had, it was a bargain. If you want to pick on little things that are here and there, then go to the Grovenor in Chester, but then remember your big wallet or purse, as you will need to put your money where your reviews are, otherwise go here and enjoy a bit of 'you' time at a good value price! Remember your at the hotel all night, enjoy it! Thank you to all your team and especially the waitresses on the Saturday! You were brilliant

    « Nice staff...shame about the hotel »

Booked in here for our wedding anniversary. Driving up to the hotel we were very impressed. Walked in to the strangely squashed reception but were still impressed. Got to our room....not so impressed. The room seemed ok but then we realised our 'double' bed was just two singles pushed together with two separate mattresses...not very romantic! Other issues were the fact that the TV's sound wasn't working properly and that the bathroom had paint peeling on the seating and paint splatters all over the place, obviously from a quick attempt to spruce things up. One of the down lighters was also lose and half hanging out. To lighten the mood we went to the 'leisure' facilities. Once again, first impressions were good...friendly staff, nice reception area, ok changing rooms...but the pool was awful. The water was incredibly cold, the pool was a very strange shape so was hard to swim properly and it was very badly lit...so much so, once daylight began to pass it wasn't even clear if the pool was open or not! Aside from the pool the only other leisure facility was a sauna large enough for about 2-3 people! We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both of which were very average. Staff were friendly but clearly overworked resulting in very slow service. The food itself was hit and miss. Starter was great but main and breakfast were luke warm once food eventually arrived. They also ran out of the 10oz steak special on the menu. Vege was also soggy and tasteless. I don't think we would stay here again. This place promises a lot on the outside but essentially fails to deliver. My advice, avoid and spend a little more elsewhere.

    « Lovely Hotel »

We stayed here on a Groupon deal mid week. The hotel was very clean and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and spacious but I think will need upgrading soon. The food in the restaurant was beautiful and the venison was amazing. The bar also does food which was really nice too with a good choice of veggie options. We also treated ourselves to afternoon tea here too which we really enjoyed. The hotel also has a gym, pool and very small sauna. It also has a spa too which we made use of and I would recommend the Indian head massage! Overall I would recommend this hotel. It has beautiful grounds and a lot of character.

« Definately not worth it! Pity as it was a 50th birthday present »

Just spent 1 night and Im pleased thats all that was booked. On arrival we were greeted very well, the staff are the only good thing I can say there is. Basic repair work required to say the least. Towel rail in bathroom didnt work, not a major issue but the plastic cover on the electrical connectors was broken and loose! Bulb didnt work in lamp, trouser press was useless and to add to the list on the morning of leaving the hot water was off so unable to get a wash/shower. Told receptionist and was told plumber had just left and should be warm in an hour! Not very good when we were due to book out in half an hour! So if you decide to book up be prepared to be disappointed

    « OMG, where do I begin... »

The rooms for both parties were pleasing, good size room and en suite, clean fresh bedding. Lunch and breakfast was tasty and a good variety to cater all tastes and dietary needs. However that's all the positive things I can say. There seems to be discrepancies between its star rating, either 3* or 4*, more like faulty towers!!! This confusion should be the first warning to all... As advertised via the internet 'This magnificent country house hotel near Chester... promises to provide an experience to remember...' it certainly did that; never in my life have I ever been in a restaurant for 5 hours, most of that time waiting for our main meal. Other tables were given 3 rolls as their starter, our party only had 2 each and we were one of the 1st to be seated, this was reported during the 1st course but not resolved. Vegetables were advertised as part of the main meal...what vegetables, this was also reported. Three of out party members ordered sirloin steak...it was so dry and tasteless, one party member couldn't even cut hers, sections did break off, but that was because it was burnt to a crisp. They gladly took it back to replace?.55 mins later we had our meal, it was so rare and mine was cold in the middle...and still not edible. All customers seemed to have a problem with their meal, according to one staff, the same happened last weekend too! Another staff reported that they have problems with their meat supplier, however there was no gristle in either of our meals. One guest was actually given a kitchen knife to eat and cut his meat!!! We sat at the table at 7, we left 11:30, still hungry but exhausted. (For obvious reason we did not have to pay for our meal) The spa treatment was bizarre, due to shortage of staff we were left to work out for ourselves where the facility was, where to get changed, where to get our robes, where to wait for our appointment, and again there was a delay. We waited 45 for our treatment, no explanation or apology from the spa staff. We were informed on numerous occasions from the reception desk and the spa staff that they were a separate organisation, this shouldn't be the case..are they not there as a whole team to provide the same standard of satisfaction and service to all customers. One hotel staff member however was extremely helpful and apologetic, the confusing thing was that he was the hotel cook, but due to shortage of staff, he was also manning not just the kitchen, but also the gym, the pool, the reception desk at the leisure facility and the messenger for the spa facility...poor fellow! The pool was freezing, apparently the heater pump broke a four days ago! There was no hot water in the morning...apparently the hotel had problems with plumbing a few days ago and it takes time for the water heater to warm up (it worked the night before though). Some people didn't have running water at all due to same fault which caused issues with the water pressure!!! Sorry to inform about next issue, however, during morning swim and again shortage of staff, one customer was actually consuming alcohol by the pool, and was unfortunately entertaining himself in the corner of the pool too!!!Honestly!!!

    « Nice room »

Stayed here for one evening in Febuary. After reading so many bad reviews we were not really looking forward to going. We were on a secret escapes stay. Bed breakfast and a free drink. We were very pleasantly surprised. All the staff were very nice, polite and friendly . Our room was big, clean and warm. We ate in the restaurant . The food was very nice but there is not much choice for vegetarians and nothing at all is labelled vegetarian. We would have liked a drink in the bar after but it is very small and there was no where to sit. Breakfast was very poor. There was not much left when we went at 8.30 am and what was there was all dried up. Saying that though if we were in Chester again we would stay again.

    « Lovely night away »

We stayed on a Secret Escapes deal, would not have been worth full advertised price but we thought the deal was great value and would stay again. Check in was fine. We had executive room which was lovely and quiet. Clean (I'm very fussy) and at far end of hotel so nice and quiet. Very spacious and the bed was comfy. Only thing I would say is it was by a fire escape covered in cigarette butts so wouldn't like to have had cause to walk on that but didn't impact on stay in any way. We ate and drank in the bar, and the bar food was really nice and we were happy with the bar food prices. Good size portions. Only point about the bar is there isn't much atmosphere and it's very quiet so some music on in early afternoon would have been nice. We used the pool which was fine. Yes the changing areas need updating and a good clean but I'm guessing the hotel know this. The sauna was useless as it wasn't hot, and the changing rooms should be warmer. Wouldn't take a lot to make this part of hotel a lot better. Could be really lovely. The breakfast was great, enough choice and well cooked and service was fine. Would recommend and will return soon.

    « Disappointing »

Hotel is situated in a lovely quiet location in the countryside and I have to say the staff were lovely and very friendly. However the hotel facilities were quite dated. We stayed in an "executive room", the pale carpet was stained, the wallpaper was dirty and peeling and in the bathroom a cotton bud was found behind the door and hairs in the shower. Seems the cleaning staff didn't do their job properly. For the price we paid I expected better. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant and that was very nice. I should have known it being a Best Western hotel that it wasn't going to be great. The rooms need updating and the cleaning staff should actually do their job, then this hotel could be so much better.

It was a cold and rainy day, but we cosy enjoying a truly scrumptious afternoon tea. Starting with fizz and ending with full tummies. Great service, lovely setting and very tasty food. Would recommend.

Executive suite was delightful, staff were extremely helpful and polite and enjoyed the use of the gym at spa. Breakfast was good. The hotel was situated in lovely quiet grounds a very short distance from Chester. Evening meal was good but there was a long delay in getting a table in the restaurant resulting in eating in the bar later than expected. I would definitely go back.

    « Wedding taster meal »

We had a 3 course meal as our wedding taster, food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and service second to none. Only problem is food is so good we have to go back for a second taster as there's so much choice. Can't wait for our wedding here in June.

    « Special overnight treat »

When we first arrived at 2pm on the dot, we was informed by the lady at reception, that our room was still being cleaned. She instructed us to go and wait in the bar area, and buy our own drinks and she would come and get let us know when it was ready. We waited a full hour, so at 3pm we went to reception, the lady told us the room was ready. There was a full hour off our break! We went to our room, we had booked and paid for an executive King. Now, I'm no hotel pro, but the room they gave us was a standard double. Very dated, tiny, stains on the bed runner, the sheet was all creased. We wasn't impressed at all, we was both discussing on getting an upgrade. Whilst in discussion, a guy just let himself in our room with a card key, walked past us and went straight to the toilet. My hubby said, have you come to repair something. The guy said, yes the toilet has a crack in it, and he was giving it a quick fix to tide it over the weekend. He said he wouldn't be long, we said that's ok as we're not staying in this room. So, went to reception, told the lady we'd booked an executive room with Expedia, and that we had been given a standard double. She said, did you not look at the rooms on the website. We informed her, yes, but as the rooms wasn't named and you didn't know what you was booking. She was just about to argue the toss, then hubby told her if the maintenance guy just walking in, and this was Not Acceptable!!!! We could've been undressing, or even using the bathroom. My husband demanded either an upgrade, or our payment back in full. So, she upgraded us to the Laurel room, superior meant to be. Though it first looked pleasant looking, that room was too, very dated. There was only a couple of bulbs in each bedside lamp, they should've had 3 in them, bearing in mind there was no ceiling light. The room was roasting hot, the radiators was on their lowest setting. We could not turn them off, only one of the Windows would open. We left it open all night, yes, in February. We didn't complain about that, after the mither we'd had with the book in, and other room (maintenance guy). Anyway, we got ourselves ready for our meal we'd booked in the restaurant. We'd booked a table for 2, they seated us at a table for 4. Even though my hubby stated, we had booked a table for 2. Now, we sat there and the table was full of scratches and dents, the cutlery was stuck to the table, and it definitely wasn't varnish! Hubby, then asked for us to be seated at one of the vacant tables for 2, the waitress said yes, but we'd have to wait 5 minutes as she'd have to set it and clean it for us. All the other tables we looked at had no blemishes on. We had dinner, I've gotta say, it was devine. Went back up to our room and sweated the night away, and that was just with the heating. The staff were very cold, no emotion. Exception to the barman, he was lovely and chatty. Now, if they spent as much money and tlc on the actual hotel, as they do their splendid grounds, then this hotel could be a 5 star. We rate it a 1 star, as that's what we think of it and its staff. We were treated like 2nd class citizens, I feel, because we didn't book through he hotel itself, and thought we'd got a great deal. We're appalled, at the way we was treated. We wouldn't recommend anyone to stay in this hotel, until they had staff training in being courteous with customers. Plus, the hotel is in desperate need of an update and lots of repairs. Our wardrobe was dangerous too, doors swinging back on us when getting something out of them. The bathroom window had mildew and dirt around. We shouldn't have had any kind of stresses at all, let alone all these!!!!! Another thing is, even when you have paid when you booked. They take a payment again off you when you book in, in which was ok with us, but if people don't have enough fundings, they'd find themselves struggling. As the money's don't go back in your bank straight away. We wasn't aware of this. This is to show people, not to be made a complete and utter mug of, to complain when need be. You have to, in places like this. It's disgraceful!!!!!

« Secret Escape from Hell!! AVOID »

We booked this hotel through secret escapes and like so many others had the wool pulled RIGHT over our eyes! From the pictures and exterior of the building we thought we were on to a winner....how wrong we were. The receptionist wasn't interested in the slightest by our arrival and didn't explain where nothing was, such as the bar, dining area or breakfast times...nothing. If she was in my employment I'd be getting rid of her ASAP. Once in the room the first thing that hit us was the incredible heat and to our amazement the radiators were both off??! Then we did the usual things and looked around the room, we had an executive room whatever that means, and the bath was chipped and the fittings and the décor was dated. The toilet took about 3 hours to refill once flushed and you could hear it refilling over the hair-dryer. I dread to think what the other slightly cheaper rooms were like. The entire hotel is outdated and is in desperate need of a refurbishment or even just a lick of paint here or there, the staff are pleasant but don't care about the guests in the slightest. We then went down to the pool, or I think thats what they call it. It had a layer of scum on the top and looked dirty the entire pool area is filthy and again run down, the sauna is a tiny 2 seater room which was constantly occupied. The breakfast was nice and is a buffet style set-up, and in the morning we were rudely awoken at about 7.50am when there was a loud motor noise that seemed to go through the entire hotel I thought we had workmen in our room and the hotel had let them in the night, I nearly rang down reception for some ear defenders but remembered the staff wouldn't be interested. We finally checked out after the worst nights sleep we've had on the horrible hard mattress, there was NO after-care by yet another receptionist, there was no "did you have a nice stay?" because I think she was scared to ask as so many must complain to her. Awful hotel, uninterested staff and poor run down facilities. DO NOT STAY here through secret escapes.......finally, it says on there website it is 5 MILES from CHESHIRE OAKS and 5 miles from CHESTER ZOO, yeah if you drew a straight line on a map both of these were 12 MILES away almost treble the distance in case, like me, you were stopping for nearby attractions. Expect a longer drive almost 30 mins away for both. Please avoid, you have been warned.

« Poor after sales service »

Paid for my son to stay for two nights via wowcher - so the room was paid for. Upon arrival he was asked to approve an authorisation of £160 on his card. This was the full cost of his room. As a result he had no money available to go shopping and only just managed to get home as he couldn't pay for more petrol. I phoned the hotel and spoke to the duty manager who promised a call back from the general manager. This never came so I phoned on Sunday and spoke to him. He basically said it was my son's fault for putting his PIN number in!!! My son is 8 and it's the first time he has done anything like this and so just agreed to what they asked him to do. The GM did admit that they shouldn't take a pre-authorisation for the full amount. This doesn't help my son who, 4 days after returning still doesn't have access to his money. I don't believe the hotel have reversed the authorisation - when they take the authorisation the funds are immediately unavailable. Yet when they reverse it he has to wait an indeterminate length of time. As compensation he was offered a complimentary night stay!!! Wow - Six hour return journey for one night in what will no doubt be the smallest room they can find and he will still have to pay for food and they will no doubt try to take more money from him. Overall I would not recommend - I get the impression the hotel don't care about their guests. I raised this with head office - who care even less - they say each hotel is independent! Keep away unless you have lots of cash!!!

    « Overpriced bar prices »

Stayed at this hotel for one night on Friday 19th Feb for a belated valentines treat from my wife. First impressions were good room was bit out dated and could do with modernising but clean and spacious. We planned to go for a swim, sauna and have a massage. Unfortunately pool was closed so both settled for a 30 min shoulder neck and back massage for £30 each. My wife said hers was okay but I must say my 6 year old daughter could of done better on me. Squirt some oil on back and rub in. Main meal was good but was horrified when ordered double vodka and Diet Coke for Mrs coming to £9 and a pint of San Miguel £4.50 I'm not at all a skint Flint and expected to pay a bit more than local pub prices but this was daylight robbery considering the setting. I should of listened to the mrs and went to Tesco and bought are own ale which I recommend anyone staying there in future to do although we would never stay or recommend anyone to stay there again. Breakfast was decent thou.

    « Pretty good ! »

Stayed Thursday pm to Sunday morning to celebrate my wife's bday Rooms nice and warm although small gripe was that the bedside reading lights were not bright enough for me to read by. Also there was no grab rail to the bath/ shower which I had difficulty getting in and out of,but then I am a sixty year old man! Staff were pleasant and friendly without exceptions One good idea is that if you decide to decline the room cleaning service, you get two free drinks vouchers , which we took advantage of. Bar prices I thought reasonable for a hotel . We dined each night, once in the restaurant included in our package, and twice in the bar , eating from the bar menu.We thought all the food excellent , as were the buffet breakfasts. Well done Chef, an obvious artist!! Good bus service every ten mins or so , from just down the lane, into Chester. All in all good value we felt and we would recommend the place.

« Outdated Hotel and Overall Disappointing Experience »

I booked an overnight spa stay at this hotel as a 50th birthday treat for my mother and was severely disappointed. The beautiful exterior appearance of the hotel is not a true reflection of the hotel overall. The interior attempts an antiquated look but is simply outdated and was not throughly clean. The spa facilities are poor including swimming pool which had a visible layer of scum on the surface when I attempted to use it. The sauna was a small cupboard size room which could only comfortably fit 2 people in at a time. I paid a £50 supplement for an additional person in a double room and so expected a triple. However, upon arrival, the room had only one double bed. When I questioned Reception, an uncomfortable, low to the ground fold out bed was provided. There was a persistent banging noise coming from the bathroom which sounded like machinery in operation. I had to pay an additional supplement to visit the hotel on a weekend. The restaurant and communal areas were teeming with people on Saturday due to a wedding and all slots for massages and other treatments were fully booked for both Saturday and Sunday. The loud music from the wedding continued until at least midnight. There were little flies all over the hotel in the bedroom, bathroom, pool, spa and I even witnessed staff members brushing them away. I called room service at 9.30pm to order a dessert but was told that the kitchen had stopped serving! The hotel is Advertised on some websites as a 4* hotel which in my opinion it definitely is not! Very disappointed! Staff were extremely courteous and friendly but this is all I can positively say about this hotel. Having visited other Hallmark and Best Western chains I can say this is the poorest standard I have experienced.

    « Uncomfortable »

Purchased a deal on Secret Escapes to include dinner, breakfast and drinks. When we checked in we were given our drinks vouchers and told where our room was,no explanation about where the bar was or restaurant, poor customer service. The one shining thing about our stay was the excellent food, 5* made a complaint to the lady on reception about having had a terrible nights sleep due to the ridiculous heat in the room, and also the bed divan bed with its singles joined together was incorrectly joined, causing discomfort throughout the night. She advised me that the duty manager was busy with breakfast but would discuss it afterward, she was informed of our room number and that we would be in the room. I have checked out and never seen the duty manager to discuss my complaint. Not acceptable in my opinion!

« Bit dated excellent staff »

Came here through a secret escapes deal fantastic value for money, we had an executive suite (orchard) which included dinner B&B and a drinks voucher, we stayed for one night and also booked in the sanctuary spa aswell. The food dinner and breakfast was amazing could not fault it, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the two ladies in the spa were also fantastic, there are however a few things on arrival asked for my card which I expected what I didn't expect was £10 to be taken off my card I had to ask as to why this was and told in case of anything used in mini bar in room (there was no mini bar in our room) also room was a bit dated no phone in room to dial 0 if anything needed, asked for more teabags and milk at reception was told someone would bring some up that never happened, pool was OK small and cold apparently heating was not working, gym was good, panic alarm was knocked off the wall in the pool area and it took a member of staff 20 minutes to come and see if there was anything wrong very poor and lastly lots of little black flies everywhere. Good place but could do with a few adjustments

    « Lovely Hotel »

It's my third visit there. Beautiful setting, I love the chess set and the sheep, that look so real. Lovely inside, too, with cosy corners and big windows. Food and staff very good. We ate as a family group and the waitress was so good in dealing with everyone's order, going round the table and remembering who asked for what. There was a mix up with food at one point and she handled it very professionally, so it wasn't a problem. I'm sure I'll go back again soon.

    « OK...apart from the party "animals" »

Stayed 2 nights at end of January. Room at far end of hotel ok, apart from hole above bathroom sink where insulation wool fell out. Asked for another room. Staff very helpful and got the Holly suite. Nice room, lighting poor And dim. First night good, food excellent. Second night oh dear. A party. I overheard in the bar someone saying it was a Christmas party. Ehhh?????? A Christmas party!!!!!????? At end of January!!!! For pity's sake. That's why we booked that weekend, to avoid that rubbish! Not a good night sleep, awoken by screeches of animals, broken glass and other selfish indulgence. I enjoy a party like everyone else - but a xmas party near February!!!! Worlds gone insane!!! We should have stayed in original room at back of hotel - probably quieter, it colder with the hole in ceiling. We won't be coming back sadly. Nice location yes, but let down by said above.

Nice Hotel. Large warm rooms. Good fasciities. Particularly enjoyed the small sauna and food was very good. I ate in the restaurant. Service was a little slow but was worth the wait. Friendly staff and great location for Chester and Cheshire Oaks.

« Impressive room and good food »

Having stopped here on numerous occasions was spoilt on this occasion. Booked via central reservations and as a diamond select member asked for an upgrade if available. On arrival was given room 31 which is the honeymoon suite. Huge lounge area and large bedroom with 4 poster bed. Very nice bathroom as well. Only downside poor Internet and free view TV channels kept freezing and dropping signal. Ate in the bar good and the service was very good. I would recommend this hotel and will return again either on business or pleasure

    « Good...but not great »

We stayed here the night after Valentine's Day for my girlfriends birthday. The hotel itself on first viewing was nice and welcoming, good scenery and overall not a bad location situated not far from Chester. The room was clean upon arrival with all the information on menus, room service, spa etc. We had a travel zoo voucher so we had 30 pound per head to spend on dining in the restaraunt. It took twenty minutes just for them to take our drinks order!! I wouldn't mind but it was not even busy!!!!The food was good but not great. Nothing to complain about food wise but had much better. Breakfast was a buffet breakfast with great choice and all food was hot and tasted good. Not sure I would go back but was a still a nice night away.

I have to say it was a pleasure to see how friendly all the staff are. A big thank you to Anthony who helped with a problem with the boiler noise that was humming. Anthony arranged for us to move to a different room. Have to say the staff really made the stay a lot more enjoyable. Would recommend this hotel to family and friends. My one criticism would be the tea and coffee tray. Not enough milk, coffee and no choice of herbal tea. But you can get more from reception if you want.

The hotel is very good, spa on site, sorry to say the pool was not one of the cleanest and the changing rooms need to be updated, we had a small problem with the TV in our room, staff found a replacement room right away, high quality food, I recommend you get to breakfast early. The staff were excellent. Take a drive to Chester use the Park and drive, £4 for the day and free travel into the city, the cathedral tour ( free) well worth it. lots of nice shops for the ladies, plenty of places to eat and drink.

« GREAT PLACE TO STAY »

took my wife for one night as a birthday celebration. Booked an executive ground floor room. WOW! it was a HUGE suite with a four poster bed, and very large bathroom. As my wife is a wheelchair user we had to use the entrance through the leisure club. No problem at all the friendly even opened the doors for us. Once inside all we wanted was situated on one level. Very nice dining room. We asked if the chef would be kind enough to make an omelette for my wife. No problem at all, the staff were magnificent and really friendly. The food was excellent. Only one area fell down slightly the room lighting needs to be brighter. Difficult to read thro lack of light. However that being the only criticism we are looking forward to revisiting when the weather is warmer and sunnier. Look out for the sheep when you get there!!

    « friday night visit »

Checked in ok, it was not the most friendy welcome that we normally receive,we were also advised that the restaurant was fully booked, but that we could still have a meal in the bar area..we booked an executive room, which we were given upstairs as requested, although not a very good view, we were overlooking the pool roof and all the pipes, but it was a nice clean big room, couple of small issues, the bathroom door did not shut because there was no catch,it did lock inside bathroom, by a small bolt that had been put on the door, also the bedside lamps were awful, the plastic inside the shade was all cracked, not what you would expect for this type of room. We had a meal in the bar which was very nice, and we were well looked after by excellent staff members, christine, but sorry did not get other ladies name, they were also on duty the next morning at breakfast, which we went to around 9.40,we had to wait about ten minutes for a table, due to it being busy, this was not a problem, but there was not much choice left and what was left had gone a bit cold.We found out after we came out of the restaurant that some items were replenished ,unfortunatey we were not made aware of this,we mentioned this to the very helpful receptionist when we checked out.We always enjoy our stay, and although a couple of problems, we will stay again.

    « Weekend Break »

Easy to find hotel, set in very pleasant grounds in a quiet location. Check in quick and friendly. The room was in need of a few cosmetic repairs, but certainly nothing that impacted negatively on our visit. Room was clean as was bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. Bar and Restaurant areas are nothing flash, but are good for a quiet meal or drink. Good selection of spirits and the food in the restaurant was excellent, with a decent selection of wine, which complimented the menu. Service in both catering areas was excellent and my partner who is gluten, wheat and dairy intolerant (weirdo!) was looked after well and the menu whether by design or accident was broad enough for her to have with a few minor tweaks. Breakfast was the same. Nice leisure facilities, good sauna. There was a party in a side area, but this had no impact on our visit in the slightest. Taxi to Chester was £14 one way, which was reasonable for a 6 mile journey. A couple of pubs in Rossett which were fine, local types. Overall a good hotel for a short break especially if you want to go to Chester or surrounding areas. Try the restaurant it is good. I would use this hotel again and for a hotel of this type it is hard to fault.

Fantastic hotel, very pleasant staff. A few minor issues that were rectified straight away so I'm not even going to mention. Evening meal was fantastic, we both had steak which was cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef. We felt a bit peckish later so ordered room service. It arrived promptly with a pleasant member of staff. Breakfast was amazing, plenty of choice and variety. All in all, fantastic value for money and a great lovely hotel. Will definitely recommend and return. Thank you LlYNDIR for the bottle of wine and chocolates and for making my wife's birthday special.

    « Christmas party round 2 !! »

We first went here Saturday 12th December for our Christmas party to say it was a disaster is a understatement.Needless to say after paying 65.00 each and not receiving the night we were promised we complained on the Monday morning. After several emails between myself and the manager we agreed we would go back. So what a difference, we were in the main hotel and everything was as we would have liked originally. This is the standard we expected staff friendly attentive and nothing was too much trouble. To be fair the food was good on the original night and again it didn't disappoint , lovely choice piping hot and delicious.Barman professional friendly and was rushed off his feet at some points of night not that he showed anything other the professionalism I would expect. They have restored my confidence in their hotel and I wouldn't hesitate in going back as they say it's not how you start it how you finish.Well done Llyndir Hall.

    « Needs some updating »

We stayed here in May 2015 while visiting Chester (not too far away). Plenty parking and the staff were very welcoming on arrival. We had booked two rooms - although smart they were certainly both in need of some updating. Our bathroom was very basic and had some obvious wear and tear - the toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall! Our four poster double bed was lovely however and period style furniture a lovely touch. Someone had obviously been smoking in our room before we arrived which is disappointing but can't be controlled. Staff were friendly at all times. The restaurant was fantastic! My sea bass was very envied in our group and it was sensational. We got 2 cheese boards for afters and there was a huge quantity even for 4 of us! Lovely grounds, weather was awful when we visited but we made a point of stepping out to see the gardens as they are so well looked after and some beautiful artistic pieces. Lovely stay but could be 5 star with some modernisation ?

« Afternoon tea and spa visit. »

Beautiful grounds, even on a damp January day. Quirky statues, mature trees, groups of snowdrops. Plenty of parking space, also on the bus route. The hotel itself is a lovely building with many interesting features. The "spa" part of the visit was 2-hr use of the swimming pool, which was 12 swimming strokes by 4. Also use of the sauna. The changing rooms are communal. The shower itself was not very powerful, the hairdryers were not hot enough to do the job. Hardly a spa experience really; nothing sensory or relaxing. The Afternoon Tea was served in a lovely room with views of the garden. The waitress who served us was helpful and prompt. We had prosecco, tea or coffee, and a 3 tier selection of sandwich fingers and cakes.

    « Not to impressive »

Really nice hotel, but only problems we had was the shower was cold and had no power, we also had a bedroom above the kitchen so it was very warm, we left the window open over day time and all the way though night and still struggled to settle, also we booked for evening dinner and the service was very slow, we had two courses and each course was an hour wait, however the staff were lovely and worked at there best, but won't be coming back

    « Wonderful Birthday Celebration »

I booked this hotel as a surprise getaway for myself and my husband who was celebrating his birthday. From the time we arrived to the morning we left we had a fabulous time, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The room was beautiful as was the food. Thank you very much for a fabulous stay.

« Good hotel but getting dated. »

We stayed here before visiting North Wales (not too far away). The pretend animals in the grounds set the scene really. The hotel is a bit 70's... nice grounds and room Ok but dated. The building itself in very nice but a bit of a sprawl. There were not many guests in when we stayed so fairly quiet. Breakfast was good, no complaints there,. They changed our initial room (cant remember why but we wither didn.t like it of something wasn't working). Staff were a good assett but the hotel needs modernising or an uplift. I would stay there again as its not bad, just a decor thing.

« Fabulous New Years Eve All Inclusive »

This is the second year we've celebrated at Llyndir Hall and we thoroughly enjoyed the night. Staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully deorated, drinks a plenty and the DJ played just the right music to suit us all. The food was very tasty and everyone on the table was served together, with no fuss whatsoever. Cocktails on arrival, canapés, then a goats cheese tartlet, soup, beef'dinner, chocolate tart, cheese and biscuits. Prosecco, white red and rose, plus beer on the table. Whisky to toast the haggis, port for the cheese and prosecco to toast in the new year! We saw guests who were repeat visitors and I think this shows Llydir do a great job - thanks again to everyone who worked so hard to make the night a great success :)

    « Christmas 3 night break »

We have had the most fantastic Christmas at this hotel. The staff, the food, the entertainment including a trip to the panto in rhyl, the atmosphere was all excellent. Steven, the manager worked so hard to make sure the 3 day package was a success, as did the rest of the staff. Thank you !

We had two nights Christmas break at LLyndir hotel and completely enjoyed. The staff are friendly, special thanks for management. Programme was printed, all timetable kept well, entertainment was good. Small surprises, presents.Delicious food. We used swimming pool in Xmas day and boxing day. We would recommend this hotel.

    « Amazing afternoon tea »

We visited Llyndir Hall for Afternoon tea with prosecco on a rainy afternoon at the end of November. The setting is beautiful and, despite the weather, we had a very pleasant time. We were shown to our table in a small lounge with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lovely grounds. The decor was grand and the walls were hung with a range of interesting paintings. Afternoon tea was amazing, a huge selection of delicate sandwiches, little cakes and strawberries - far too much for two people although we did our best - it was just too good to leave. We were looked after very well indeed and found the whole experience very relaxing. I will, and have already, recommended this experience to friends and family.

    « Christmas Party »

Fantastic evening and would highly recommend the all inclusive Christmas party package. Great food and plenty of it if you wanted second helpings. Large sweet selection too. The all inclusive bar was busy (as expected when you hear inclusive) but was managed professionally and I was greeted by very friendly staff when I was served. Overall great food, great entertainment and friendly staff.

    « A lovely hotel in a very scenic location...with a proposal! »

Llyndir Hall is set in a beautiful location and looks very impressive as you approach it. The staff are really friendly, the food at the restaurant is divine and the rooms are very modern and well kept. The reason for only 4 stars instead of 5 is that, while the spa itself is beautiful with wonderful treatments by a fantastic beautician, the pool area is a little disappointing. The jacuzzi had been tiled over and there was only a tiny sauna and a few seats to relax on. If a little tlc was given to this area it would most definitely be 5 stars! That said, we had a wonderful weekend and it was very good value...my fiance proposed while we were there so Llyndir Hall will always be close to our hearts and we hope to return!

    « Amazing Christmas Day »

My family of 12 all booked here for Christmas Day and from the moment we walked in we was greeted by a lovely friendly smile and polite lady who made such a fuss of us and our children. After a welcome glass of fizz we went to sit at the table -absolutely stunning with views over the grounds - simply beautiful. We had an amazing 5 course meal with hot drinks and port to finish. All staff was friendly, funny and we were made to feel very welcome throughout the day. A full recommendation if you wanted a special Christmas Day -well done Llyndir !!! We will be booking again for 2016!!

    « Dreadful evening - never again! »

I've never left a review on trip adviser before, but this experience has moved me to leave this one. We attended the 'all inclusive party night' - a sardine in its tin would have more room than the inmates on this particular evening. Move your chair back an inch and you bump into the chair of the people on the table behind, a matchbox of a dance floor, demotivated employees, (but not surprised, taking into account the environment they had to work in, so I'm not blaming them) - this was an evening form hell, never to be repeated - I suggest you avoid 'all inclusives' at the Llyndir, I'm afraid it seemed to be an exercise in cramming as many unfortunates as possible, to maximise the hotel's 'bang for bucks' on the floor space.

    « Christmas Party Fiasco »

Words fail me, but I will try my hardest... Venue, 0/10 - the conference centre , not actually in the hotel. The smallest room with the smallest bar -more about that later. Upon arrival, upwards of 50 -60 people crammed in to a hall way with no room for manouevre, laughably a waitress turns up with a tray of nibbles and can not get into the venue because people are spilling out of the door way. We are then advised that we can not sit down in the room until 8.00pm. At this point we went to the main hotel and sat in the spacious and warm reception area. The staff started trying to usher us back towards the conference centre. Once the doors were finally opened, the full horror of the night started to unfold. Crammed and congested only starts to cover it. No room between each of the tables, crammed together and noisy. The dance floor was 5ft x 5ft. The drinks on the table were 1 bottle of red wine , 1 bottle of white and 1 bottle of rose. So 10 people all wanted either red or white wine or ros and no you cant have beer even though they intimated it was all inclusive. You could only go the bar once the meal was over - 10.30.. The bar.. more of a barren cupboard with sullen employees who believed they had the right to ask why when you had queued for 10 minutes to get to the front of the queue, you want 2 drinks - let me think... one for me and one for my wife. Bizarre does not come close. All in all, what a waste of money. I am not one for resorting to Trip Advisor to make negative comments , but I wish I had checked before hand. I would have cancelled and asked for my money back. I am a local to this hotel, I live in the village, my daughter had her wedding reception there, they could not have been more professional then, but not now... I am staggered by the ineptitude and Gaul of the management to let this happen again and again over the last week. There will be a letter of complaint ..

    « What a waste of money!! »

£65 for an all you can eat meal and free flowing drinks all night with a 'feathers' disco that was going to be the best night ever is how it was advertised. What we actually got was cold undercooked food that was served to us and at no point were we offered seconds. There was wine with the meal which tasted worse than vinegar and j20s. No beer and refusal of any other soft drinks. The bar was supposed to open after the meal which they dragged out until 10.50pm a long queue as only one person serving managed to get 2 drinks before close. The room was tiny and the dance floor even tinnier not big enough to fit one group let alone the other 5 groups without risk of injury. The toilets were dingy and lightbulb wasn't working properly. Having emailed management and not had a satisfactory response I thought it only fair that others should be aware before wasting their money, I will be returning to the grosvenor down the road next year who are far better equipped and offer much better service and value for money.

This is the second time we have stayed here and both stays were brilliant. all the staff were friendly, the facilities , both the pool and Gym were spotlessly clean and efficient for us oldies to use. The food was well presented and served by helpful staff, in fact everyone was great. We will be going back again soon.

    « Weekend away »

We stayed for a relaxing break away after traveling to see family. The hotel was welcoming and clean. The bathrooms look modern and refurbished. The building seemed to have miles of corridors, but that will be do the fact it looks like it was an old country mansion. I can see why people book up to have their wedding there. All in all it was a nice rest away from everyday life. We did not get to use the spa facilities as my partner was very tired and slept before dinner. We did look at the facilities in the morning and could not say anything bad about them. For a 3 star hotel it was very good and would have no trouble recommending it to anyone.

    « Xmas party night! »

We visited Llydir Hall for our Xmas party this year, myself and my best friend go every year out for an event such as this, after not too great a start I have to say they pulled it out the bag, mainly down to the lovely food, it really was exceptional..and the DJ was brilliant. The staff were really great too. What let them down was the room size, we were in a conference room because there was a wedding in the main room. The problem was that it was hardly decorated and didn't really have an Xmas feel. Had it of been in the main function room I think this would have been excellent. The dance floor was the size of a postage stamp which annoyed me at first but then after a while (or a few drinks!) you didn't notice. I thought overall it was well ran but also the staff were great. Shame about the room! We probably wouldn't go back again Incase we were in the small room again!

This place just works as it should - easy parking , plenty room - just about as good as it gets. Food, staff and lay out of hotel good and well back from the road, so no road noise. Gym and pool works well, plenty places to take an easy walk if required. - just an all round good place.

    « Christmas party night »

Well what a waste of £65!! My advise if you've booked this then get a refund... It sounds great on paper but it really wasn't free drinks all night. What they didn't tell us when we booked is we were in the business conference room rather than the main room which was small. On arrival we were packed in like sardines into getting buzz fizz and canopies. There Wasn't any room We went into the main room after people complained and we were disappointed in the size & the dance floor was so small people had to dance by their tables or get knocked. The DJ said not everyone dances at the same time but you didn't get a choice here. The wine on the table was nasty and staff wouldn't get you anything else from 'free bar' you struggled to get a lemonade to tone the taste down. My pregnant friend asked for Diet Coke as she didn't like the j20 that was put on the table but as it was such a hassle she ended up with TAP water!! The food was being brought over from the main hotel, the plates were hot but the food was cold. It's not help yourself it's served to you as you wait in the queue but my cold veg and brick hard roaster didn't get eaten. They didn't open the Free bar until 10.30pm and everyone was in the queue, you don't get many drinks in the space of 1 1/2 hours if you want a dance and a chat. If you want to drink you just have to take your 1 class back to bar and re stand in the queue over & over!! There was no VIP bar it was the same bar and some queue. The toilets are horrible and run down, even had to complain about the light in the ladies toilets. The staff were nice enough but when asked for stuff or complained they were very dismissal in there attitude. When I asked why we weren't in the main room they said if less than 80 people book then it's put in that room! I'm sure it's more the fact that they had a wedding booked into the main room so didn't book extra people into that Christmas party! When a friend rung up they were told it was full! Overpriced rubbish Christmas night and won't be returning or recommending to friends. For £65 I expected better, I will be going elsewhere next year and never returning.

    « Gorgeous hotel »

We had out annual works xmas party at this hotel, we booked a room and stayed the night. The party went really well, 100 attendees, free food and bar (our company paid). There was only beer and wine until 10pm tho, the main bar didn't open until 10pm but there was a cash bar available. The free bar wouldn't serve any doubles either :-( . The food was ok, for an event for 100 people they did a good enough job. The feathers disco was fun and we danced to some favourite xmas tunes. Later on hotdogs and sweets were served which was nice. The room was lovely and large. The free breakfast was also good, lots of selection!!! Value for money.. well I didn't pay for the party so that was fab, the room we got discounted to 77 pound from £130... I think £130 is overpriced if I'm honest. The hotel is located in a beautiful place, really romantic! All in all it was a great weekend! :-)

Lovely hotel, lovely staff, great welcome and good food with excellent quality breakfast! Staff seemed more than thin on ground and there was a long wait to order food/drink and wait time. Not enough staff but they handled it professionally. Room 4 spoiled the stay as insanely hot (without heaters on)...supposed to be king-size and yet double. Worst night sleep ever in a hotel as mattress completely over used. As we were in room 4 we were right over the industrial air con which I'm guessing is for the kitchen....this also kept us up all night and to top it off ...the shower didn't work. Sadly the bathroom was full of hairs and didn't look like it had been cleaned. I would stay again but not in room 4 as felt we had been given the booby prize room xx the headboard was clearly a king-size and the bed a double which Immediately catches your attention and leaves you asking why leave the room like that?see pic! Without the room issues (which are major) I would have given 5 stars!

    « very disappointing 40th birthday celebration »

The exterior and the brochure do not reflect the distinctly average experience of staying at this Hotel. The actual building and location are both impressive and the place has the potential to be so much better. Breakfast was very poor and the presentation of the breakfast the absolute opposite from appetising.

    « fabulous wedding weekend »

We went for a family wedding. Beautiful hotel. When we drove towards the hotel on Friday night it was beautifully lit up outside with blue lighting. Greeted by friendly well-dressed staff. Lovely inside, clean and kept to high standard of decor. The food all weekend was delicious, from the pulled pork sandwich, to the gorgeous fluffy scrambled eggs for breakfast and the wedding food was to die for. The room was beautiful with lovely little touches such as complimentary toiletries and Earl Grey teabags. The staff were friendly, polite and efficient. Special thank you to the night porter who restocked me with teabags and biscuits for the room. The whole wedding ran smoothly due to the careful planning and efficiency of the staff and of course my very organised niece, the Bride. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially if you are looking for a place to stay just outside Chester, only five miles away.

« Nice hotel and staff »

Have stayed here a couple times and it's a pretty decent hotel to stay in for a night or two. The restaurant is of excellent standard - you can tell the chef is passionate about his their job! If I can find some photos I'll put them up on here. The rooms are spacious and are comfortable - the showers could do with a bit of an upgrade though. The bar could do with a bit of an upgrade. Nothing special or interesting on tap and it's a bit standard. The staff of the hotel are very pleasant and recognise when you when you go back. To sum it up, decent hotel with just a few wrinkles that ironing out.

    « Weekend Stay »

We stayed at the Llyndir Hall Hotel for a weekend break and a visit to Liverpool. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, we received a warm welcome on arrival on the Friday night and enjoyed a nice steak in the restaurant that evening. Saturday got off to a good start with a very nice breakfast before we set off for a day in Liverpool. On arrival back at the hotel early Saturday evening we decided on a relaxing drink in the bar, we did find it difficult to locate a member of staff to serve us but they did have a wedding going on in the function room and seemed very busy. On the Sunday morning we had to have a cold shower as there was a problem with the hot water according to the receptionist, but it didn't spoil our stay at this hotel. We found the staff very polite, hardworking and always happy to be serving you. Even though there was a wedding at the venue on Saturday, we enjoyed a good nights sleep and never heard any music or noise, I thought they contained the event very well so not to disturb other residents. The only downside we found to the hotel was the internet which is very slow, we couldn't pick any wifi up in our room at all but it is located in a rural area. Overall it was a very nice weekend and we would certainly stay there again.

    « Wonderful »

What a lovely hotel. From start to finish my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A beautiful old country house with character set in it's own grounds, so no traffic noise. A spacious car park and clean, tidy, well kept rooms. The best fresh cooked food we've ever had from a hotel with ample choice and served in the cozy dining room or bar area both overlooking the gardens. Vast choices for breakfast which set us up for the day! Lovely spa treatments, great gym and nice pool to finish off in! The staff were most attentive and pleasant (especially Sharon) We didn't want to leave and will most certainly be back again soon!

« Two Stays and Both Were Excellent »

Me and my wife stayed here twice recently, for my wife's birthday and for our niece's wedding. We stayed four nights in total and had a great time. The staff were extremely helpful and flexible, and friendly with it. The hotel/chef sent some well presented chocolates to our room and I had arranged for flowers to be delivered, champagne at breakfast, table decorated with balloons etc.. and the staff went out of their way to make it all happen. Rooms were lovely. Bar food, restaurant food, a buffet I put on (at very short notice) and the wedding meal were all excellent. On the evening of my wife's birthday my (surprise) arrangements changed a few times and the staff were more than happy to change with me. I'd like to thank so many of the staff from the receptionist(s) to the two ladies at breakfast, to all the other staff who made our stay(s) so enjoyable. I can't remember all their names but would like to give special thanks to Jemma Roberts, Sharon Thomas and the manager, Steven Scoullar , who went way beyond our expectations and his responsibilities in helping us.

After booking online via the Best Western Website three days prior to arrival, we arrived at 18:30 on the day only to be told that they had not got a reservation for us even though I had a booking confirmation email. We ended up staying in a hotel 2 miles away and was told by them they overbook all of the time, hence why they had rooms available for us to stay in that evening. I WILL NOT BE USING BEST WESTERN AGAIN.....

as soon as we drove in we liked the look of the hotel, nice welcome, we were directed to our room, no.15 the housekeeper was nearby and opened the door for us commenting that the room felt cold and did we want an extra heater but we like to sleep in an unheated room so that was fine, but we didn't realise that the heating was broken in the bathroom too, so after going to reception we were shown to another room, we decided to have dinner and the staff were great and it was the best food ever unusual but delicious, as it was our 33 anniversary we had 3 courses ,then coffee which wasn't great let down the meal, breakfast was fantastic and the waitress was super happy which is nice, this was a stop on the way to the Lake District from Dorset and we will stop here in the future when and if we go to the lakes or further .

My husband and I have just returned from our first visit to the fitness suite at Llyndir Hall. We have used the hotel before as a place for a superb meal and always found the staff very welcoming so when looking for a gym thought we would give it a try. Already looking forward to our next workout .

Absolutely beautiful country house hotel in its own grounds. We found both the setting and the building itself really stunning. Our room was modern, comfortable and clean and the service from the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The ONLY thing that let us down was the spa area. There was no hot tub or jacuzzi, the pool was outdated and very small and the only other facility was a sauna. We would have liked some music on and an opportunity to relax in comfort around the pool with a magazine and a coffee, but it felt a little 'forgotten about' in the spa area. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, dinner was perfect and breakfast the next day was absolutely fantastic. I'd go again but not for a 'spa' break.

« Hotel for business trips »

I've stayed at this hotel many times on business. It is a little out of the way but I keep coming back because it is a nice friendly place where the staff (most of them) have time to pass the time of day. One room to avoid (I think it is called "Ash") it's right over the kitchen and the extractor fans start early in the morning. Otherwise I've never had any problem with noise or anything else. I tend to eat out at one of the many country pubs on an evening (I like a log fire, the chatter and a proper pint) but if you don't have the time or the inclination to go out then the food at the Llyndir is quite acceptable.

As soon as me and my partner drove onto the ground we feel in love, we instantly thought of this as a wedding venue, shame we didn't eat here as the menu looked very nice, our bedroom was nice and roomy and I slept like a baby, thank you and I will be returning when I'm next in the area.

I've been here every week for the last 6 weeks. Great hotel, staff and food. Good location. The team on reception are really helpful and when I needed to change room did so with no problem. The food is really good, with a good selection and again the staff are friendly and helpful. The ladies at breakfast are great. The bar is a little small though. I always look for a hotel with a good gym and had been put off by here before due to the website photos. These are misleading, the gym is far better than the photos show. My only negative is that the Wifi is poor all over the hotel. The signal is not string enough to stream anything on Sky Go so no sports or movies.

    « Give it a miss »

We booked a superior room however when we arrived the room we were allocated had a standard double bed and a view of a flat roof. Although we booked via Feathers website, the receptionist stated she would have to check the details and we should have a drink in the bar. We had our drinks expecting her to find us, she did not. We were then told if we wished to cancel there would be no charge, not even offered the room at standard room rate. We decided to leave as the overall impression was extremely poor with no customer service at all from reception. The barman was however a very pleasant young man that unfortunately is the only positive comment we can make.

Stayed to attend a wedding at the hotel. Fabulous grounds and nice lounge and function room. However the lighting in the room was abysmal and for May the room was cold. I reported this to reception and although I was assured it would be dealt with, by the time the wedding reception had ended the room was very cold and then it was far too late to report it The drinks in the function room bar are very expensive. Nice breakfast though. We would not stay at this hotel again out of choice

On the eve of my sisters wedding we had a lovely meal in a room set out just for my sisters guests. I've got to say one member of staff stood out for me, her name was Diana coffin. Nothing was too much trouble for her, that lady went the extra mile an more. It's members of staff like her that makes your stay so enjoyable. My sister and her husband had an amazing wedding day. Great food, beautiful grounds an such lovely staff.

Booked 3 nights to celebrate my 60th birthday. It was wonderful. The food is excellent and coming from a catering background myself I was impressed. The choice for breakfast also excellent. Yes the place is in need of TLC but staff more than make up for it and refurbe is being done. If there is something you are not happy with let staff know because we thought our first room noisy and they moved us to a beautiful suite. Chef sent chocs to our room for my birthday and staff helped my husband arrange lots of surprises. The manager was also brilliant..if you need any thing go to him. The pool, although not very big was warm and inviting. We liked it so much we are going back at the weekend for a family wedding. Can't wait to tuck into the food again!???

Booked last minute 2 night break for our anniversary, staff polite but not overly helpful, room potentially ok but unfortunately spoiled by silver fish in the bathroom, unbelievably noisy plumbing after flushing the loo and leaky shower screen due to the seal falling off. The evening meal was frankly a disaster, steak virtually inedible, refund given but evening was marred. Ordered room service breakfast which was also a disaster, smoked haddock was again inedible as it was absolutely solid and difficult to cut into. Hotel itself is in lovely rural setting and has great potential but really let down by poor food and lack of attention to detail. This is the 1st bad review we have done we are not serial complainers but hope it will help others (and the Hotel). Booked a meal on the second night at the nearby Nags Head pub restaurant where ambience, food and service we're fantastic.

« Wonderful Location, helpful staff but Some management Issues »

We stayed at Llyndir Hall as a party of 14 for three nights, dining each night in the restaurant. On arrival we were greeted and helped to our rooms, in the Woodland Suite. These were lovely spacious rooms, but dimly lit, to the extent that we could not see to read with all lights on. Three 11W candle bulbs in dark shades are not really adequate for rooms this size, and they take 5-10 minutes to come up to full brightness. Perhaps they could be replaced with 20W spiral compact fluorescents, which have greater brightness and faster warm up, or even better LED lights which are instant on, have longer life and are more efficient. The hotel had a wedding function on the Friday night, and we were asked to sit down to dinner at 8.00pm, which we did. Orders were taken about 8.15pm, but our starters did not arrive until 9.45pm. My smoked salmon was excellent, but those with goats cheese salad had a very minimal amount of goats cheese! The rack of lamb which was a popular choice ran out to be replaced by lamb shanks. When these arrives around 10.30 pm they were delicious, but having travelled up from Bristol we were quite hungry by then. Around 11.15pm the staff started collecting glasses, and laying up for breakfast, and we were invited to order sweets "if we wished". As our room rate included a three course meal, most of us wished, but it was getting close to midnight by the time we finished. On Saturday night we asked to eat early at 6.30pm , as most of our male customers hoped to watch the rugby England vs Australlia, which kicked off at 8.00 pm. A school reunion in the function room was also on, and the bar was both poorly staffed and stocked, so bottled beer ran our immediately, Guiness was finished, the most popular red wine, Merlot was out of stock, so getting served was a lengthy business both for us and for the reunion members. We preordered dinned, but again starters took almost an hour to arrive, and main courses and sweets were delayed. The rugby had finished before we finished our meal, despite sitting down early The Sunday evening meal was the best served, without unacceptable delays, and the bar staff could cope with the reduced numbers. The self service breakfasts were good, and we enjoyed these greatly, with helpful staff in attendance. To sum up, I would have loved to give this Best Western Hotel a higher rating, but the slow kitchen service and understocked and understaffed bar detracted from our weekend enjoyment, (though as a large party we were less affected that a smaller party would have been.) The food, when it arrived was good, so extra staff and training could overcome most of the problems. There is a large mark up on drink costs in the bar, To lose sales by having an understocked bar is poor customer relations and poor management.

    « Wedding Anniversary Experience »

The location of this Hotel is excellent, set in lovely grounds and close to many visitor opportunities. We chose this Hotel to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary but unfortunately the first night set the scene and as a result we were very disappointed. We were offered a choice of rooms which was great and we picked a room which was bright, clean and tidy.(Room 46). We booked a table in the restaurant on arrival and our initial experience was one which actual spoilt the week. The menu was very limited and the quality, service and value for money was poor. A rack of Welsh Lamb is not 3 small lamb cutlets with very little meat and my wife's 2 courses left us bitterly disappointed. After making a decision not to eat again in the restaurant on this stay we ate in the bar/lounge where the quality of food was better. the service there was also better thanks to Diane and Jacob. In the morning my wife complained of back ache and we ascertained that the mattress was to hard and in places you could feel the springs. Gemma on reception promised to resolve the situation and to her credit this was achieved. However, our expectations of a quality stay had now been compromised. Although we had good service and food in the bar/lounge it was not what we had planned for the 5 night stay. On our Wedding Anniversary date we actually went out to another local restaurant to celebrate, again something we didn't wish. The breakfasts were good and managed effectively by Barbara. Overall, although deductions were made on my bill on departure we were very disappointed. Diane, Jacob, Gemma and Barbara are first class people who are let down by attention to detail from behind the scenes. By concentrating on a party of 16 for dinner on our first night our overall experience was spoilt. I'm sorry we won't return to this hotel when others such as The Swan (Wells) and The NewHolm (Isle of Wight) give a fantastic service and value for money experience.

    « Terrible service,steer well clear »

We have travelled a great deal during 2015 and have stayed and eaten at hotels large and small all over the UK and as a result have plenty to weight anywhere we visit against for room, cleanliness, staff, service, location, etc. We recently stayed at the Llyndir Hall Hotel (Best Western) in Rossett near Wrexham in room 5. The location is quiet and on the edge of a pretty village and the hotel is set in small but pleasant grounds at the end of a lane. It looks quite grand inside and out but don't let that fool you. On arrival we were checked in and found our room to be what we expected for an executive room, both spacious and well appointed with two tub chairs and a desk and chair as well as a comfortable bed. The bathroom was also large and clean. Boy, were things going to go down hill.......we had booked a two night stay with first evening meal and breakfast both days through Travel Zoo. The customer service is so bad here it is hard to know just where to begin. We went to the bar and after a 15 minute wait and no sign of service we gave up and drove to a local pub....not what we wanted at all. Once back at the hotel and seated in the rather small restaurant we ordered our meal. After 20 minutes we were served our starters (soup) which was ok quality and as we were chatting the wait didn't seem too bad and we expected the normal pace of service or even a little slow would have been ok. However.......we waited another HOUR for our main course (steak). By now hungry we tucked in BUT IT WAS HORRIBLE overcooked and with an awful hard crusty covering which we think was pepper corn. We ordered medium and no sauces. What a shame as we were celebrating a birthday. We decided to just order desert anyway as we had already paid for this meal. After trying to speak to the one waiting staff we could see for some time we gave up and went to reception to complain. The receptionist smirked and said she would ask the manager to contact us the next day as she was not available at that time. As it was a celebration for us we did not want to things to get negative and so we left it at that and minus our desert retreated to the room and the comfort of our own bottle of wine as still no one in the bar. We never did get our desert and no apology or compensation either, not even a free drink in the bar.....but of course there were no staff in the bar anyway. Could it get worse? This is The Llyndir Hall and so yes it could. The room was a little dark anyway but as the evening went on we needed to put on the the lights and.....how could anyone read with about two candle power from woefully inadequate lighting in such a dim room. The view was of a rusty water fountain, a few scruffy bushes and a roof with air conditioning units on it. These air conditioning units whir loudly in the evening. At breakfast a man at a near by table was asking the waiter if a poached egg might arrive within an hour or so as he had been kept waiting so long the day before he had gone without. Another person was saying that there were no glasses for fruit juice and that the grape fruit had run out and he had been informed that there was no more. The bowls for cereal etc had also run out yet the breakfast room was barley a quarter full. The waiter talking with the guy who wanted a poached egg was very rude and off-hand with him and said his name was Lance. It seems that if you order food to be cooked you'll be quite a lot older when it arrives. Our serve your self cooked Welsh breakfast was decent enough though to be fair but we could not find a glass and three of the jam pots for the toast had been started and returned to the stand...yuck. Did we get to see the manager you might ask......of course not, she was always busy with someone or something else whenever we asked. We have both been in management and customer service rolls at a high level in major organisations for many years and in our professional opinion this hotel should employ the right and competent staff with an understanding of their roll especially with regard to customer service. They should employ more staff in the restaurant in the evenings. Best Western should employ a manager who cares as this one has given us plenty of evidence that she does not. Best Western....we thought your hotels were a little better than many...but...Not this one. Finally, it was made very clear by the reception when checking in and when complaining that we had booked through Travel Zoo and they always said this in a way that gave us the feeling that those who booked a deal in this way were not really welcome here. When ordering our meal on the first evening of our stay the waitress said, "oh you have booked through Travel Zoo" as if this was a crime. To sum up: Lovely if dim room and bathroom, nice grounds, zero customer service and a serious management issue and staff training to sort out. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

    « Peaceful Location »

I went for a 2 night mid-week break with my partner and we booked a double room with breakfast. We used our sat nav to get to the hotel and it took us straight there. Checking in was easy and we were given room 23 it looked out onto the garden. First impression was that the room was very spacious and clean, there were tea and coffee making facilities and a good hairdryer in the drawer of the dressing table. There was also a trouser press situated in the wardrobe. My only gripe was that there was no spoon to make the drinks and the bin was broken in the bathroom this was soon rectified once reported. Also we found that the room was quite dark, even when we put on the light it was still dark. I also found that when I used the hairdryer I had to use a cushion so that I could see in the mirror and considering that I am nearly 6ft this isn't very good. Breakfast consisted of both hot and cold options and set out as a buffet. The food was good quality and very tasty. During our visit we did not eat at the restaurant or have any spa treatments but did use the gym and sauna. The changing room was dated and there were no cubicles only three benches. The machines in the gym were also dated, however the pool and sauna were ok, no jacuzzi though. Overall we enjoyed our visit, the staff were friendly, the food good but the hotel needs updating.
