« Amazing relaxed family stopover »

We saw this hotel earlier in the year whilst visiting Rutland water and thought what a lovely setting. So when we were looking for a place halfway between our homes to catch up with family it seemed perfect and I would just say it was exactly that. The check in was quick and everything re dinner and breakfast and the facilities explained. Hubby and I had room 6 which is in the eaves so not ideal for any one too tall in places but was fine for us. The bathroom was clean and the room had everything we needed for a one night stay including very nice toiletries. Our family including our 7yr old grandson had a family room just off the courtyard which was very spacious, The only issue was that the sofa bed had not been made up. But a quick chat with reception and this was put right whilst we had a lovely walk around the water. Playing Pokémon go as we went (lots to find) meant the 8 yr old walked a fair distance without any complaint. WE booked a table for dinner and were given a table up on the raised section which meant we had space and were away from other tables. The food we ordered was exceptional all the adults enjoyed both the mains and the deserts we had and they were more than happy to cater to the fussy eating habits of our grandson even giving him a desert off the lunch menu. The service was friendly and efficient and the young man serving us was more than helpful. The only little issue we had was trying to find someone in the bar a couple of times but it did not cause us any problems and it certainly did not spoil our stay. Breakfast was in the conservatory and is self service with Bacon, Eggs, Sausage, Black pudding, Hash browns, Mushrooms, Tomatoes and baked beans in the hot section all of which was hot and of good quality. The Danish pastries and croissants were very enjoyable along with the mixed toast we all ate more than enough. All in all an excellent stay in a lovely hotel with excellent service and with the beautiful Rutland Water within metres.

    « Lovely location »

The room was fine but the bathroom needed a bit of TLC, mould around the edges of the bath and shower screen. Also the cooked breakfast was cold at only about 08:30hrs., although the dinner the previous evening was very good.

    « Brief encounter! »

We haven't stayed at the hotel, merely visited but we enjoyed it very much. Walking around Rutland Water (well, part of it!), we passed the back of the hotel on our way to the dam. Promising ourselves a stop off there on the way back, it was too early for lunch so we just had a pot of tea. We were so lucky with the weather, this being the 31st October. The day was glorious and so warm that we had our tea outside on the garden's terrace. Just us, the birds and the view. Magical. We liked it so much that we asked for a hotel brochure for a possible stay in the future. I've not given it an 'excellent' because we found the waitress a little cool. Not unfriendly as such but, given that we had asked for the brochure, we might have hoped that there would have been a little more warmth. Not to worry, we had the sun!

    « 1st wedding anniversary ?? »

We came back here for our 1st wedding anniversary, a year to the day we got married here 9th August 2015. We had a wonderful stay, the staff really looked after us and we had a fantastic meal, it really was a wonderful romantic way to spend our anniversary. The Bridal suite has been redecorated since our wedding day and looked really lovely, beautiful furniture and the spa bath is amazing it was a real treat to stay here. We will definitely be returning next year for our 2nd anniversary. Many thanks to all the staff, especially Daniel who really looked after us.

« Good hotel for weekend visit, even out of season »

Hotel in good position with access to sea and esplanade. Sea view rooms very comfortable, our bathroom was modernised.. Breakfast a bit disappointing - a bit basic . Didn't use restaurant so cannot comment.

« Wonderfully organised wedding weekend »

I have just returned from my daughter's wedding, held last weekend at the Normanton Park and although I have plenty of ?tidying up' jobs to do I felt I wanted to take time out to write this account. Both my husband and I were absolutely delighted with all the arrangements both leading up to our event and on the actual day and really couldn't find any faults at all with the whole weekend. The lake view rooms with stunning views were lovely ? traditional decor but with spotlessly clean modern bathrooms and comfy bed. We stayed two nights and had breakfast each morning which had buffet and also cooked to order English breakfast with virtually any combination to suit your taste. The ceremony took place in Normanton church, a very short walk away, and the service was truly memorable. We followed this with a boat ride, just under an hour in length, on the Rutland Belle. The weather was perfect with hardly a breeze and all our guests agreed this was a great fun way to have the drinks reception. Back to the Normanton Park for our evening meal, which was served in the dining room and conservatory with twilight views of Rutland Water. The piping hot food which was nicely presented was brought out very quickly and efficiently so we were all eating together. Most of our guests stayed overnight at the hotel and were all full of praise for the hotel facilities and gorgeous views. The wedding suite was enormous with sunken jacuzzi bath and my daughter and new husband were absolutely delighted. The staff were friendly and chatty and nothing was too much trouble. Our thanks especially to Wayne, Andy and Daniel who worked long hours in the restaurant, bar and at breakfast and were generally helpful whenever we needed anything. We would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding or any other function ? or even a meal just to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Thank you very much from the Allen and Biddle families

    « Birthday dinner »

We live near this hotel but had never been there to eat. The atmosphere was great, the restaurant was lovely and the staff could not have been more helpful. It is in a beautiful setting but cannot say what the hotel is like.

    « Mrs »

My husband and I have just spent our anniversary at this perfectly placed hotel for the most amazing views and walks around Rutland Water with the most perfectly preserved church from the flooding of land for the making of the reservoir. From our arrival to the time we left all the staff we met were very friendly. Our Anniversary meal was made even more special by the friendliest of waiters called Andrew also the chef for our very special pudding. The food was excellently cooked the steak just melted in our mouth. I have gone on a bit but I cannot tell you have fabulous everything was.

    « A Disappointing Visit »

I have stayed at this hotel and have dined there often, but the quality of service varies between excellent and last week awful! Friends and I called, hoping to have an early lunch. There was no-one in the lounge bar, but I heard voices from the kitchen, so I knocked on the door, peeped round it and spoke to some-one having a meal. I told him there was no-one serving and asked him if some-one could help. To say I was snarled at was not an exaggeration, he was rude, aggressive, but came into the lounge bar, simultaneously a waitress appeared. The man went behind the bar and started to wash glasses. I asked him if we could order some food. His response was:- "Go and sit down, my colleague will come to you to take your order." His colleague did not come to us, but prepared coffee for some-one else and then called to us to the counter and asked what we wanted. When we asked if we could have an early lunch (it was 11-40am), her response was a firm "No!", because;-" The chef is on a break until 12-00 noon". This is a hotel that offers all day service for food. Please, some-one in management, make sure your that ALL of your team know that costumers are not an encumbrance to be treated with indifference and rudeness. Explain that costumers are the reason they have a job. Suffice to say, we went elsewhere. I will go to this place again, because of it's location, it's standard of accommodation and because I have had such good service previously.

« Nice enough but lacking »

We stayed here for a family Wedding where the reception was held & the Wedding which was held at Normanton church which is absolutely stunning. At the time of making our reservation they took a £30 non refundable deposit. Hotel is easy to find with lots of parking. The building looks like an old stable yard. Be warned if you wear heeled shoes there are lots of cobbles & the walk to the church is a distance if you are in your heeled shoes. The views from the hotel are stunning. We arrived at mid day but you are unable to check in until 2. We went to the restaurant to have some lunch. The waitress didn't look like she wanted to be there, hardly a smile & she looked thoroughly miserable. We ordered gammon, egg & chips which was ok, nothing special & the pepsi tasted flat. We were never checked upon to see if we were ok & when we fancied a cup of coffee my husband had to go to another bar in the hotel & find someone to ask. Not really something that you should have to do. The Wedding reception was held in the conservatory, which was nice & roomy. Food for the reception was a wardolf salad, followed by lamb with mash & peas, my lamb was fatty & the food was cold. I was expecting some more different veg but none arrived. The pudding was crème brullee, which was nice. I'm sure this meal cost the Wedding party a small fortune & I wonder if they were impressed. One good part was that you could charge your drinks to your room this was ideal. We were in a room which you accessed across the court yard. Difficult to walk too in my heeled shoes. Room was clean & adequate though the bed was uncomfortable & I could feel the springs. The bathroom was clean but the shower quickly turned cold which didn't make for a good shower. The lighting in the room wasn't particularly good & there were not enough plug sockets. The tv was big & the room had a kettle so at least you could have a cup of tea/coffee. Breakfast was served from 8 till 10 on a Sunday & we arrived at 9. The area where the breakfast is served is too small & there are not enough tables, & tables that were free were not cleared or cleaned. We had to ask the same waitress who was there from lunch, who again looked like she didn't want to be there but I did find out that she had worked a very long shift. The full English looked like it had just been thrown in to a deep container & been left there, it look unappealing & revolting I couldn't bring myself to look at it. I kept waiting to see if it got replenished but it didn't. They had packets of cereal & fruit that was swimming in juices. There were crossaints but there were flies all over them. Tea & coffee was brought to you & so was the toast. I was very disappointed with the breakfast that was on offer . If I'm honest I think the hotel are missing a trick here. They could attract a lot of custom for people walking around the lake, who could pop in to have something to eat, or a cream tea etc. I'm not sure if I would stay here again as I the rooms need updating & making a more inviting, Staff I think work long & hard shifts so that probably didn't help.

« Best stay, recommend it »

Where do I start...sooo many positives for this hotel! Beautiful tasting food which includes a stunning rump steak in the menu, it's all really nicely presented too. The staff are wonderful, Andrew...well Andrew made our evening meals a pleasure as he is friendly, funny and is awesome at his job...I've never laughed so much, it was fantastic! Daniel and Chris, aswell as the gentleman at breakfast were also kind and helpful. the room was clean, comfortable and well stocked with refreshments. the grounds are stunning and its well worth a walk around the reservoir if you have a chance. A true gem of a hotel, would stay again in a heartbeat :-)

    « Fantastic stay »

We have just spent a wonderful, peaceful and totally relaxing 3 days in Rutland staying at Normanton Park. We visit this hotel regularly and have stayed once before. In beautiful surroundings with fantastic views across the water, the county town of Oakham a short drive away, friendly, helpful and very attentive staff, comfortable well equipped rooms, and good food, our stay was just perfect. We found the attention given by Andrew and Daniel to be first class. We shall certainly be staying again and would recommend this hotel to our friends and family. Well done Normanton Park! We'll be back soon. Pat

    « our wedding day »

we had our wedding here in april and you could not ask for better!!! - the views, staff accommodation was all top class. Wayne the coordinator does a first class job and nothing is any trouble .if you want to alter anything it can be done. we chose all of the services for our wedding day from the wedding fair that was held at the hotel which was a good idea as they have all worked together before arranging weddings - the normanton church was available for our dates as well we stayed the night before and the rooms and breakfast was excellent ,but to open your window and see rutland water was brilliant. all i can say is many thanks to all for a lovely

    « Wedding »

A wonderful location and wedding venue for our daughter's wedding 2 weeks ago. We were able to walk through the hotel grounds to Rutland Water and the beautiful Normanton Church nearby. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and kept us informed at all times, and nothing was too much trouble. Everything went smoothly and we were very impressed that the 3 course meals (for 100 guests) went out so quickly and very efficiently. The meals were hot, and each course was beautifully presented. Many of our guests stayed in the hotel overnight, and remarked how enjoyable the whole experience was. At breakfast the staff were cheerful and helpful, despite a late night, and they made the whole experience special. We should like to thank all the staff very much for everything they did - they couldn't have been more helpful. Thank you so much.

    « Business trip »

I had the pleasure of staying for a 2 week stay in September whilst at an exhibition. The location is amazing on the banks of Rutland water. The staff were excellent throughout, with a warm greeting on arrival and attentive at all times, a special thanks to assistant manager Daniel Hillman-McDonald. The cuisine was also superb.

    « Fantastic Day »

Had a family and friends afternoon tea wedding with overnight accommodation in the bridal suite. Wayne originally dealt with the booking and made us feel at ease and listened to our needs. The day went very smoothly all staff on the 18th /19th September were polite, relaxed and could not do enough for us. We had a fantastic day and Daniel added by keeping a low profile but being on hand if needed. My parents are now looking at a Organising a function at the hotel for their fellow residents in Oakham. The wansford suite was lovely with a lovely bouitique feel with stunning views. Thanks again as we had a fantastic day followed by a comfortable overnight stay and a lovely breakfast.

    « friends birthday weekend »

This hotel is in a fabulous location. Our weekend was spoilt as there was weddings on both nights and our room was above all the activities and a large tv making it difficult to sleep. Would have been lovely to sit and have breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the water, but was told we could,nt as this was for wedding guests. We felt that we should have been informed of the weddings on when we booked as they seem to get priority in the hotel. Having complained the hotel did offer us compensation and said we should not have been put in the room.

« Waterside idyll in Rutland »

Stay at the Normanton Park Hotel on the edge of Rutland Water and you will not be disappointed. All aspects of service are exemplary and the hotel location is both tranquil and spectacular. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

    « Good Visit »

We have been visiting this hotel for over 25 years. As always our visit was exceptional, friendly staff, good food, good rooms. We are always well looked after. The lounge area is good, with nice comfortable chairs with food available throughout the day.

« Dog friendly, perfect location »

Our dogs were made welcome which is a bonus because you are right on the lakeside and walks are wonderful on your doorstep, would never get used to these views. Fishing shop and base not far away so hubby was happy fishing all day on the lake. Central location to visit Whitwell, Oakham, Burghley House, Stamford, etc etc. Local pubs serve wonderful food and are dog friendly too. The White Horse, The Noel, The Horse and Jockey etc. Nene Valley Railway not too far, takes you into Peterborough if you fancy shopping, or stop off at a nature reserve for walks and picnics. Dogs welcome. Breakfast at this hotel is lovely. Cereals, continental, full English all included in our price (check on booking). Well worth having as it sets you up for the day. Breakfast overlooking the lake is a treat. SIt outside on the patio or have a coffee is the courtyard. It really is lovely here.

    « A lovely family get together »

From booking to the actual day the staff were so very helpful on arrival we waited in the lounge and when everyone arrived we were taken to our table and the waiter told us he would be looking after us we had a lovely setting and excellent service with every consideration for our needs and comfort the food was so fresh and beautifully presented and although I have dietary problems there was no difficulty just a wish for me to enjoy the meal we were 14 in number and from eldest to youngest we enjoyed the occasion so much so a big thank you to the staff and I would recommend this hotel to anyone dogs are also welcome a lovely place for any occasion

« Great location, great barman. »

We stayed here for a wedding and although the hotel is pretty tired and needs TLC, the service from Andrew more than made up for it. Only Andrew and the person who helped me changed rooms (who was understanding, flexible and excellent) managed to engage with the customers on a comfortable level. I have a feeling the rest need some direction and motivation from the manager. Andrew made our stay so much more personal and he was happy to provide excellent service to our whole group, even when we were the last to leave. Thanks for a great stay Andrew!

    « Fantastic quiet location »

Stayed for one night on business, after a long drive up I wanted to relax and stretch my legs. This was a great choice, on a sunny day when I arrived it looked fantastic, the best part is the hotel garden backs onto Rutland water. So after getting checked in I was walking around the reservoir! My room was compact but fine for 1 person and I had everything I needed. Food in the restaurant for dinner was excellent although a little pricey due to the lack of competition but I felt the quality and the price were justified. The inside is a little dated but for such a great location I have payed more for less in other parts of the country. Breakfast was served in the conservatory which over looks Rutland water. The staff are efficient and polite but are obviously busy, I don't think this is an issue but slowed things down at breakfast. Unfortunately the breakfast didn't match the previous day's food, there was nothing wrong with it just didn't have the same wow factor. (You can't change a full English too much) Great spot to stay and I would happily go back to spend more time around the area.

« Very good in an excellent location »

Like most people we have stayed in a range of hotels over the years. This was right up there at the top in terms of value for money. Our bedroom was large , clean , and comfortable. The service was also very good , as was breakfast!

    « Horible !!! »

The room that i stayed in was horrible.. spider webs everywhere, dust on the tv on the wardrobe the bed was hard and everytime me ore my wife moved it would just make iritating noises . I talked to the manager Wayne and he didint even care he just ignored me , me and my wife will never visit this hotel again and I will inform all my friends to not visit this place its rubish. And just too let people know this hotel doesn't really belong to the best western chain of hotels , on the dor at the reception you can clearly see there is a sign that says independently owned & operated, so that's why the hole place is rubish the owner probably doesn't want to invest money in the hotel. The staff is realy nice but the management is just useless.

    « Relax in tranquility »

Stayed here ready for our visit to Rockingham for the BTCC the next day. Very warm welcome from reception, our room was ready (even though we were early). Enjoyed a very pleasant lunch sitting in the garden overlooking Rutland Water. Unfortunately change of weather stopped us doing a walk round the water but we enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant later that day. The food was top class. Will visit again.

    « Lovely location »

Score would have been much higher this been booked on a room only basis. The hotel itself is very nice and the room we had was really lovely. It is also in a wonderful location. The service in the restaurant and at breakfast was what let it down. The staff had zero personality and no customer service. Apart from breakfast on the second morning the quality of the food was really good, although it was a shame that with a restaurant menu of this quantity, the mains could not have had a gluten free sauce to accompany them as it made the meal a little dry. Breakfast on the second morning was self service but the plates were cold and some of the food only lukewarm. We had planned to eat in the restaurant on both evenings but after the first nights experience we chose to go to elsewhere.

    « A hidden jewel in Rutland's Crown »

Normanton Park Hotel really is a hidden jewel in Rutland's crown. Tucked away in a quiet unassuming off road entrance, which upon arrival opens up to a most wonderful, charming hotel, converted from a previous stable block from years gone by. The outside facade retains its old charm and the inside likewise too, with the clock restaurant preserving its historic background with tasteful decor. The restaurant services high quality food supported by a great service of waiters and bartenders. (I highly recommend the local Trout on the menu) The large area round the back of the hotel, opens up into a total delight of wonderful terrace and conservatory where breakfast is served overlooking the spaceous beautiful gardens with stunning views of Rutland Water. Extremely close by is historic Normanton Church and also a boating station where you can take the boat and have a nice gentle cruise to the other side of the lake. The inside of the hotel is charming and classy. The bedrooms having been recently refurbished and of a very high quality and standard, some overlook the lake. The hotel itself seems much more than the allotted 3 stars, The assistant manager Daniel oversees an absolutely top class service ensurinig attention to every detail is given by each member of staff. He ensures perfection throughout the hotel. Claire, one of the lovely receptionists is especially helpful and both Daniel, Claire and all of the staff there made our stay wonderful. We are staying at Christmas for an inclusive stay and we are really looking forward to it! Thank you so much Daniel!

« Stunning views with equally good high tea and service! »

Cycled round Rutland Water and called in for Afternoon High Tea. We were early but served with ease. We were seated in the conservatory by the window with stunning views across Rutland Water. The lovely sunshine was beaming through the windows, but at the same time a lovely cool temperature to eat in. The atmosphere was relaxed and equitable. We had a delicious Afternoon Tea and enjoyed excellent wine. The whole experience was made more special by the attentive, charming and professional manner of Daniel. We have often been back. We arrived on one particular occasion and 10 "walk in" Afternoon Teas arrived (no booking) and we watched how Daniel calmly re-organised the tables and very pleasantly laid out the teas - keeping the same manner even when the 10 "walk-ins" decided the number had increased to 12! So go and give it a try as you pass by even if you are not staying there .. you will be impressed.

    « Day out »

On my day trip to Rutland Water with my daughter I thought we would call in for coffee and a snack en route from our walk at 5.30pm. We walked into reception no one there Went to both bars, no one there, into the restaurant, no one there at all, so we left!!! Maybe it was the wrong time, but surely the reception should be manned or someone floating about, not impressed at all, people were sitting outside at tables with no drinks or food, no service.

    « Wouldn't stay again! »

Stayed here the night before a wedding and was very disappointed in the overall experience. The hotel itself looks lovely from the outside and has a desirable setting next to Rutland Water. Our first experience with the staff (on reception) was very underwhelming. We weren't informed of anything (e.g when breakfast was), and despite carrying a number of large heavy cases the receptionist waited until we had struggled to almost the top of the stairs before he half-heartedly offered to help. The room (number 5) was hugely underwhelming. It was tiny with a sloped ceiling that took up a large portion of the room. Painted dark grey (why?!). The room itself was clean enough, however we did find a few hairs etc in the bedding. The temperature in the room was bordering on unbearable, very stuffy and unpleasant. The window could be opened but had a dirty and cobweb & covered retractable screen, which, after spiders scuttling out when I went to open it - I left closed. Bathroom was fine and bed was comfortable. Do NOT stay in this hotel if you have a problem with spiders!!!!!!! I have never seen one building with so many spiders. I woke up to two gigantic spiders, one hanging from a web above my face and one on the wall, I had to kill them both. Also encountered one on the pillow when I first arrived, another on the duvet in the morning, one in the bathroom and about 4/5 on the window screen. They can also be seen in the hallways of the hotel. Very unpleasant - is there nothing that can be done?!! Breakfast was very tasty but staff were unfriendly and standoffish. Heat in the room whilst getting ready was unbearable - this was with the window open! Cheap electric fan supplied by hotel does not suffice! Needless to say I will not be returning. Shame as the location is beautiful.

    « What a find »

Location stunning, room comfy and clean . Staff professional and friendly Stacey and Wayne I feel need a mention as although a very busy day already with wedding guests, they were still very attentive to us , as we had not booked in advance and just popped in on the off chance, thank you and your team for making us feel welcome. We also had evening meal could not fault it well done to their chef and kitchen staff. Did not have cooked brecci so can not comment overall a very enjoyable stay .

    « Family Wedding »

Lovely hotel, fantastic setting. We requested an early check in, it was no problem, hotel reception staff very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in a family room, it was spacious and clean with tea/coffee/water refreshments, bathroom toiletries, phone, hairdryer, flat screen tv, generous amount of towels, pillows, extra bedding. Breakfast was a buffet with a great selection, the only gripe here would be it was a bit of chore to go and find staff so we could get a pot of tea or a coffee, there didn't seem to be many on. The whole wedding day was wonderful, staff attentive and courteous, special mention to Wayne the General Manager a very nice man willing to chat away with his guests to ensure their stay here is the best it can be. Andrew on the bar was very amenable and again very pleasant. All in all, highly recommended!

    « Wedding guests »

We were attending a wedding being held at the hotel (the couple got married in the church on the lake). We were in a standard double room with a view of the gardens and lake. One of the Windows was shattered but still intact (the only way I can describe it) it didn't stop the window being opened or was unsafe just not the pretties to look out of. The shower was the most powerful shower I've ever had the pleasure to use and could have stayed there all day! It did get very steamy and as I opened the door I was worried it would fill the room. The bed was super comfy and when I was extremely hungover the next day I could have happily made my new home in that bed. The gardens/grounds were picturesque with the lush green and then gorgeous lake beyond. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The food was amazing! Yes it was wedding food and so maybe not normally on the everyday menu but the standard of the food was exceptional. The room where breakfast was served the next day was light and airy, unfortunate I was feeling a tad too delicate to stomach any of the food but was told it was delicious. There was a lot of verity with a hot and cold help yourself style. If we were down that way again we would defo be back and would recommend to anyone.

« Stunning location, hidden gem »

I've given it 5 stars based on the helpful and flexible staff (but perhaps not all of them are ever present or proactive), the rooms (which are just what you need nothing extravagant), the restaurant areas (breakfast was also not extravagant, but the dinner was perfectly lovely), plenty of parking space, conservatory was a lovely space. I think it averages at 5 stars because the location, features and views are definitely more like 7 stars.

    « Beautiful wedding venue »

Stayed here for the night of a wedding & I have to say that it is the most beautiful wedding venue! The lake view, sunset & church are absolutely breathtaking... The reception at the hotel was lovely, food was great & we all partied into the wee hours. Our lake view room was stunning with its little balcony & all the amenities were spot on. The bed & pillows were very comfortable. The only slight criticism I have is that the breakfast the following morning was a bit disappointing as the food was cold. After waiting quite some time I managed to get my plate of food heated up in the microwave. But other than that it was a wonderful stay & I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

    « Great break away! »

My husband booked a couple of nights away for my birthday and he couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The location is unbeatable - beautiful gardens down to the water with a lovely view of Normanton Church. The service at the hotel was superb - they went out of their way to make our stay really personal and extremely comfortable. The food was excellent and the chef made an exceptional effort to cook me a delicious veggie meal. So good was the food that we had lunch and evening dinner here on both days. The staff were extremely friendly throughout and the manager in charge here was amazing - he made our stay extra special. The rooms are very adequate and the shower was fab which is very rare! We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Normanton Park!

« Stayed for a wedding, great location however rooms let it down »

We stayed here for 1 night as part of a wedding party. The hotel is in a great location right on the lake and a perfect setting for a wedding or romantic and relaxing get away. Unfortunately the quality of the rooms let this hotel down. We stayed in a standard double room which felt more like a prison cell than a hotel room. The room was small and dark (Not sure why you could paint a small room in such a dark colour?!) Room was fairly clean however a number of spiders and cobwebs on the ceiling. Our room was located directly above the bar and reception area which was very noisy until the wedding party dispersed. The window in the room was very high and my partner could only see out is she stood and jumped! (She is 5'2). For those that can see out there is a view of a rubbish area directly below, and then a grassy field and lake in the distance. Bathroom was very poor, there is a tiny shower which I struggled to raise my arms in! The shower tray would not drain which resulted in my showing in a puddle of water. The shower plinth was broken and we need not have any hot water initially, mentioned this to reception during breakfast and they did respond straight away to check. Was told that the shower just needed to be ran for some time to let the hot water come through. Worth noting however that other members of my party also had a similar issue. Breakfast in the morning was okay... Cereals, yoghurts, fruit (but not fresh), and a buffet hot food which was nice. My partner is vegetarian and asked for some vegetarian sausages but was informed that they do not serve these however after 2 minutes we was then informed that they did actually have some! Toast provided on request with Jams and perseveres. This review is based on my room only however having seen some other rooms within the hotel I would definitely recommend paying for a better quality room.

« A real gem on the edge of Rutland water »

This lovely hotel really needs to be visited to fully appreciate its charm and incredible location. A description will serve well but being there will truly confirm to you that this venue is a real gem on the edge of Rutland Water's south shore. Settled behind a large well kept lawn that leads down to the huge expanse of a lake that is Rutland Water, you are in a haven of calm as the hotel is quietly located someway back from the south shore road. The view out across the water is such a tonic as you look over to the pastoral fields of the Hambleton peninsula and the further north shore. Our en-suite room was very nice as we were lake facing and everything required room wise was on hand and comfortable. The dining room is very contemporary with good food and breakfast is served in a large, spacious conservatory also facing across the lawn to the lake - you just couldn't want a better view at breakfast. the hotel also has a good sized function room . This is ideal of course as you can imagine that this venue is an absolute must for weddings (and other celebrations) with the previously mentioned grounds and views. It is also just a short walk from the hotel lawn along the water's edge path to the wonderfully photogenic and iconic Normanton Church which sits on its own reclaimed and connected outcrop into the lake. Tie in wedding's here and well, you've got the package. So a description will go so far but a visit to this lovely hotel venue will serve much better in enjoying what it has to offer.

« Great potential but needs better management. Service is sloppy. »

We booked a two night break at this hotel. It has an excellent location next to Rutland Water but lets itself down by sloppy management and service. 1 We had afternoon tea when we arrived and had to ask for the table to be wiped. 2 For some reason, every external door remained open deep into the evening despite strong wind so it was very chilly in the bar area. 3 When we sat in the bar area after our dinner, there were cups, saucers and teapots left from the afternoon which had not been cleared away. 4 At breakfast, they had no marmalade available, absolutely ridiculous position for a hotel. The hot buffet ran out of bacon so we had to wait for more bacon to arrive. We had to ask several times for toast and when it did arrive there was no recognition of the fact there were four people at the table, so we had to ask for more. Waiters never checked coffee so we had to ask for coffee refills to be brought. 5 The bar was quite expensive but not unreasonable. Dinner was very good with excellent desserts. Service at dinner was the most attentive we experienced in our stay. We had asked for the dinner bill to be shared across two room bills but this had been ignored and it had all been placed on one room bill. 6 The room we stayed in had an excellent view of the lake but whilst clean, was looking tired and in need of redecoration and refurbishment. 7 Parking is free and there is plenty of room. the speed humps on the drive need to be more clearly marked. This is a hotel with real potential but it really needs better trained serving staff and much more efficient supervision of service. It also needs a programme of refurbishment in the main hotel.

    « Lovely Location »

Whilst there was nothing terrible about our stay at Normanton Park. There was by no means anything excellent about it either. We arrived on Friday evening for a wedding on Saturday. The bar staff were rather stern but nothing too bad (Daniel was great btw). On Saturday morning we got up for breakfast. If your cook/chef cannot poach an egg do not put poached egg on your menu (poached egg advice there). The rest of the breakfast was well ok but inconsistent and not great. After a lovely time at the wedding I had to tell the staff at the hotel that one of the tables had been set without napkins. The bar was badly staffed and they took an extra long time to serve the wedding breakfast. The breakfast on the Sunday morning also wasnt very good. Hope it helps

« Short break to Rutland water »

as the reviews on Trip advisor were so mixed, we were not quite sure what to expect. Our own experience of this hotel was very good. Yes, a few areas in our room could do with a little attention, but nothing to really worry us. Decent size room, good range of toiletries, iron & ironing board in room helpful touch. The location is STUNNING, breakfast in the conservatory is delightful, looking down the lawn to the water, i would be surprised if you could find a nicer location anywhere around Rutland water. Breakfast very good, buffet style for juice, cereals, pastries etc , with cooked dishes, toast & hot drinks served by staff. Did have to ask everytime we wanted more coffee, perhaps would have been nice if it was offered, but very small issue. Would be very happy to stay again.

« Fantastic location, shame about hotel service »

Stopped here today after a very warm walk around part of Rutland Water. Hottest day of the year so far. Sat on their shady balcony with a marvellous view. We ordered a pint of tonic water £5.70 and a pint of orange and lemonade £4.40. A total rip off. I would expect to pay half that. We ordered the club sandwich which came with some leaves and chunky chips, and a ciabatta filled with Ham and piccalilli also with chips and some leaves. We requested substituting the chips for a green salad, which they said they couldn't do!! We had to order the green salad as an extra - what a waste. Sandwich now cost £6.50 + £2.95 for salad!! Chips were awful, soggy and pale rather than crispy, so not very apertising anyway. However the rest of the lunch was very tasty. Expensive snack lunch at £28 for the 2 of us!!

    « Great waterside location. »

I am a fan of Best Western Hotels as they are all different. The Normanton Park Hotel was the Stable block of a once great country house. Its in a fantastic location right next to the lakeside path and is an ideal base for exploring Rutland and Rutland Water. The staff are very good and very friendly. Our room looked over the lake and was very clean, and kept well serviced for our 3 night stay, but a little on the dark side. Breakfast was very nice and good choice of cold and hot foods. I thought the bar prices a little steep, as the was the lunch menu. A word of warning to drivers, 2 speed humps in the drive and not easy to see and can catch you out.

    « Great location »

We visited this hotel for a wedding. We were meant to be staying there but they messed up and arranged for us to be transported to and from a local hotel. I would be keen to stay here for a night, the bar service seemed good and the food at the wedding we attended was very nice.

« Hotel is poor, weddings are great »

We came here for a friends wedding and had a great time at the actual wedding, which was beautifully prepared and excellent service. It's a shame however, that the same can't be said for the hotel. The room was dated, which was fine but also the mattresses in our room were old and just a bit disgusting. The duvets were in a similar poor condition. No hair dryer in our room. No running water in our room on the second morning. There were dead flies all along the top of our headboard. Service at breakfast was grumpy and a bit useless to be honest. Aside from all this the venue is absolutely brilliant and perfectly located, so much more could be made of this hotel so it's a shame that it's not!

    « Wonderful Wedding »

A Magical Weekend ? Having booked Normanton Church for our wedding venue we decided the perfect place to host the rest of the event would be Normanton Park Hotel, which is conveniently less than a quarter of a mile away. From the second we made contact with the hotel Wayne (Event Manager) took us under his wing and showed us options available to us. Nothing was too much trouble no matter how many changes we made; his advice and experience was really appreciated. As the day approached Sarah and the team helped with making sure that all guests were in the correct rooms, various menu options were tasted, confirmed and timings for the day agreed. With a couple of weeks to go our Best Man decided that he would like to have a dinner party for the guests arriving the day before. As it was an early wedding this meant that nearly all of them were staying over. Again Wayne and his kitchen team were amazing; a theme of A Journey Around The World with 7 courses was planned in the conservatory. Guests started arriving in the afternoon to lovely sunshine and an amazing view, everybody was blown away by the hotel and the beautiful location. The evening was a blast, I don't think our guests could have enjoyed themselves more and most importantly so many people who had never met became friends as we mixed the seating up with each course. On the day of the wedding it was an early start and everybody was looked after at breakfast by the hotel team and as I (obviously) couldn't be there my requested bacon and runny egg, with tea and juice was delivered to the fabulous Wansford suite at the requested time. We decided 2 days before the wedding to take our guests on the Rutland Belle for a cruise around the lake, this meant a change in timings but was no hassle to the NP team. Whilst we were out the LED dance floor and Love Letters were installed and hidden behind the screens. Wedding food for the whole day was exceptional and every single guest complimented how incredible the food and service was. The room looked amazing and when Wayne and the Best Man opened the shutter doors for our first dance, everybody gasped when they saw the room and the live band. We had fish finger and bacon rolls mid evening, which all guests said was pure genius. We saw everybody at breakfast the next day and every single guest was beaming and keen to tell us that they had all had the most amazing weekend. Thank you so much to the Team at Normanton Park Hotel for not only making our day extra special but extra special for all of our guests too. Andrea & Chris Robinson

Location excellent with room over looking the lake. Had the room with the four poster bed again first class. Breakfast excellent and food during the wedding first class.Spent the whole weekend there from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Couple were married at the church on the lake, wonderful setting.

« Stay at the Normanton Park Hotel »

The hotel is set in beautiful soundings. My room had a view of the lake, which was easily accessible and had nice walking and bike riding paths. The hotel does have a funny smell in the hallways that does not go away. The room was nice, but cleaning rags and hair were left in bathroom. Beds are rock hard, so if you cannot sleep in a hard bed do not bother to stay here.

    « Lots to like ! »

I REALLY like this place. It has an amazing location, right on the banks of Rutland Water, and terrific views right across the water from the sunny and bright breakfast room. Lovely staff, a small but well-stocked bar, and interesting rooms, whether in the main house or in the stable block across the pretty cobbled courtyard. Good Wi-Fi and very clean and comfortable. Very convenient car parking. Lots to like!

« Come here to escape the crowds! »

It's dead easy to get swept into the major car parks at Rutland Water where at peak times it can be somewhat busy and you find yourself battling with hoards of youngsters on all forms of bike so if you want somewhere quieter to go for a walk and work up an appetite for a snack, lunch or tea here is the place to come. To those who are new to the area you might think you are moving away from Rutland Water but just keep following the signs on the road. There is no problem parking and the path around the water is only about 200m away. To get to the historic Normanton Church (the iconic building that is half submerged) is only about five minutes walk. After our walk we had teas (traditional and Earl Grey) and a piece of fruit cake (quite an interesting lemony twist to it) and a chocolate brownie (not too sweet). The staff were friendly too. So if you want to enjoy Rutland Water sans les foules then here is a place to bookmark.

The wedding- I Visited here for a family wedding this week. It's a beautiful place, beautiful setting the wedding was amazing the wedding breakfast was perfect can not fault the food or service on the day. The bedrooms - the worst night sleep I've ever had ! I've stayed in £15 a night bed and breakfasts in Blackpool with more comfortable beds, don't think my room (room 4 in the loft area) had a single spring in the mattress ! It was so dark my partner had to hold a mobile phone over my head for light for me to do my make up !! Would I recommend this place......for a wedding Venus yes.....for a overnight stay NO stay in a local pub or somewhere else ! Drinks were dry expensive £4.30 a pint of Stella and £6.50 a glass of wine, didn't eat here other than the wedding food which as I said was excellent !

    « Wedding venue »

Stayed at the hotel for one night for my brothers wedding. We arrived mid morning had a coffee in the bar area nice coffee but not very hot. The bride did ask if it was possible to have some rooms ready for guest to change before the 2.00pm check in time. The girl on reception was very efficient and helpful and I am sure every one did get a room for about 12.30 so well done to all who made this happen. We had a sandwich from the bar menu which cost £15.00 but very nice served which chunky chips and very nice salad. The venue is a perfect setting for a wedding, it did train most of the day but stopped for pictures outside the church on the lakeside which is only about 500 yards from the hotel. The wedding food was excellent and the service from the staff was second to none well done again, few problems with some staff not good with language being from Eastern European, never really caused a big problem. We had a room at the front of the hotel which was about 30 yards after coming out of reception outside. The room was clean little on small side but for one night was okay. The bathroom with a shower had been renovated and beautiful. The bed was very comfy wardrobe had plenty of hangers. Tea coffee biscuit etc all supplied. The reason i rated it 4 was due to breakfast. We had 8 on our table and only got 6 small pieces of toast after asking about 3 times did get more. All the usual fruit juices yogurt etc cereal and fruit which was nice. The breakfast it self is self service buffet. It was not very hot and filled up very quick so of our guest who arrived about 9.15 got very little. Not good when breakfast is served till 9.30am. Tea coffee also Luke warm. You do have to remember it is only 3 star hotel so overall a good hotel.

« A THREE STAR PLUS HOTEL IN A SIX STAR LOCATION !! »

A charming natural stone building externally renovated to the highest standard set in 5 acres of grounds overlooking Rutland Water with spectacular views. I defy any guest not to fall under its relaxing spell and be captivated by the solitude ,and uniqueness of this idyllic location. I spent many hours in the lovely gardens feeling the stress and worries ebb away. The reason why this location does not score higher is the urgent need for the Reception Area to be improved along with the restaurant . Both are adequate but a little drab as is the bar. There s a lovely conservatory overlooking the Rutland Water where breakfast is served and also afternoon tea. I stayed in a modern bedroom in an outside block, reasonably appointed with full modern facilities. It had a small balcony overlooking the water which was delightful. There were a number of things which downgraded its rating. The staff for the most part were adequate but at times a little surly and disinterested , ordering in the bar and restaurant could be difficult due to language difficulties. Breakfast was a buffet service which was satisfactory but what you saw is what you got. For example. If you wanted eggs, scrambled is what you got ,boiled, poached or fried not possible However despite these travails the location overcame everything. go with the right attitude and you will not forget it. I will be going again, the area is beautiful ,plenty to do good restaurants and a visit to nearby Stamford highly recommended.

    « wonderful views »

This is the second time we've stayed here, a lovely place with lots of atmosphere, really nice restaurant for evening meals, breakfast is in the conservatory overlooking Rutland Water, wonderful views. Good food and a good choice for breakfast and a good menu in the evening. Both times we've had a room overlooking Rutland Water, the rooms we've had have had double doors that open so a wonderful view. Rooms have been very nice, nice decor, well appointed, we did find the bed not wonderfully comfortable though. The hotel is situated in a very nice area, lots of nice scenery around and very pretty villages and small towns nearby.

« Fantastic location and staff »

For a 3 star hotel we were highly impressed. Stayed 2 nights with friends then a Sunday lunch with more family joining us. The room was excellent (we believe it had had a recent makeover) with a Juliet balcony overlooking the lake. The location on the very edge of Rutland Water near to the famous semi-sunk church was just idyllic and bike hire to explore he lake was within easy walking distance. Food was superb but what made the day extra special was the staff. Service was second to none throughout but the navy suited silver fox mentioned in a previous review made our stay. Daniel is one of the best hospitality professionals we have met. There when you need him, helpful to the extreme, knowledgable about where to go, eat, drink and a thoroughly nice chap that goes out of his way to make your stay memorable.

    « Normanton hotel, Rutland »

Stopped here many times, next to Rutland water, a fifteen mile walk around or an hour on a cycle, stunning scenery and a lovely quite hotel, with good sized rooms, fantastic polite staff, great food and a really tranquil setting, perfect after a day's work and just so relaxing, it's very popular and busy, so book early, beautiful buildings ex stables, beautiful surroundings, good food, great staff and peaceful

« Great location but tired »

Hotel is a 3 star (just), the rooms were quite tired and the beds were awful for the sake of a decent mattress. The staff were fantastic which outweighs the negatives. The food was very good and when my kids hit 15 they may be able to almost finish the children's portions! We were there for a wedding which the staff really put the extra effort in to. The location is stunning and if you like walking or cycling you won't find better. The room rates are a little high but I guess the location has a premium to it. Overall I would recommend this hotel but remember the star rating is 3 and you won't go wrong.

    « Quaint little hotel. »

I only stopped in this hotel for one night, The food was excellent and the waiter was very professional and gave great service, he even advised me on where to visit. The rooms are quite unusual in the fact that you access them from outside the hotel from the courtyard. The rooms are spacious and the decor is quite dated, although the tv is a huge flat screen smart tv. The bed was not the most comfortable in the the world, quite lumpy and I could feel the springs in areas. The setting of this hotel is outstanding with beautiful views. In all I would recommend theis hotel to anyone, the positives far outway the negatives.

    « Room with a view »

We were warmly welcomed by the lady at reception and were lucky enough to get a room upgrade. The room had an outlook over Rutland Water and was comfortable and clean with everything working. Later in the evening it gave us sight of a lovely sunset. The location of the hotel is fantastic, right on the edge of the water. Parking is easy and it is easy to access the footpath along the waters edge for a walk on level ground. Be sure to walk to the Church which sits on a spit of land out in the water, a short distance from the Hotel. Come back and enjoy a drink in the comfortable bar lounge area. Dinner was very enjoyable with a varied food and drinks menu, and the setting unusual, it's part of the old stables. Breakfast is served in the conservatory again with views of the water. The choice covers most tastes and was of good quality. The setting, comfort, friendly staff and good food made for a memorable stay. We will be back to enjoy more things this area has to offer. A ideal base from which to explore and relax.

« Daniel made the break superb! »

I stayed for 1 night having been cycling for the day. I was greeted by Daniel and he made sure of making my stay perfect. His professionalism and the quality of food of which he served, was brilliant! He was a true gent! The hotel itself could do with a slight make-over, but other than this, I would say it was good.

    « Stunning place »

Great location, with direct access to the lake. Staff are friendly and food is good. Best rooms are on the ground floor facing the court yard. The rooms above the kitchen can be noisy till it closes so it something to be aware of if after an old mans half hour ! Overall great place to stay and would recommend.

    « Few days break »

First room offered was not good, second ok but not great, dinner was just ok, staff not very helpful, breakfast just ok, nothing outstanding here, wifi terrible, the only really good thing about this hotel is the location, but you do need to drive to get anywhere,

« Good Hotel very clean »

All in all a very nice and quiet hotel to stay in. There was a wedding on and the staff seemed to be a little pre occupied with that but thats not a major drama. Only thing that got to me was the £5.00 charge for room service. After you have paid good money for a nice room and well over the odds for the drinks, to have another charge just for brining them to the room is a bit off putting. Wont be using this service in the future. £5.00 + £8.00 for 2 drinks is far to much and a bit of a liberty. The hotel was very clean and well presented. Would stay here again but avoid the room service which in all fairness should be included in the cost of the room!!.

« Great stay in a fab location. »

Stayed with my partner in a court yard room. Room was clean, tidy and spacious with good size TV. We also ate in the restaurant, food was excellent and also presented well. Staff were good, friendly and very helpful. Our waitress for the evening was a senior member. Not sure of his name silver fox hair, navy suit and looked immaculate. Service he provided was top notch. Nothing was too much trouble. Hope to visit again soon. Thank you so much for our amazing experience..... Mr silver fox.. Navy suit man.

    « Pleasant stay »

We never really go away to enjoy the hotel they're just a place to rest our heads really. However due to the remoteness of this hotel we ate in the onsite restaurant which was amazing. The food tasted great and the staff were efficient and friendly. We went for a walk by the lake in the evening after dinner which was really enjoyable. Although there was lots of sheep muck on the path to dodge. Breakfast was nice too. One negative was that they advertise as having complementary toothbrushes if you forget yours. Well I forgot, and so did they! They didn't have any. Not a massive deal as I shouldn't have forgot but they shouldn't advertise a service and not provide it. The receptionist was very apologetic.

« Hotel on the banks of Rutland Water. With flat good paths for walking or cycling accessed from a gate in the grounds. »

Daniel and staff are very welcoming and efficient. The food was excellent in quality and preparation and service. Plenty of parking with well kept grounds. Our room was well appointed and clean. Our room overlooked a field and was very quiet. Tea and coffee in the room, which if more was required it was easily available. Our sandwich lunch was freshly made and served with salad and great chips.Fillet steak dinner melted in the mouth. We would definitely go back again.

    « stunning location »

My husband and I recently stayed at this Hotel. Our room, with a lake view, was stunning as was the superb location of this Hotel. The food was very pleasant too. The Hotel is in an excellent situation for visiting Stamford and other areas apart from activities around the lake. Overall a very pleasant experience apart from one problem - a stressed and bad tempered waiter!

« Cream tea overlooking the lake spoilt a bit by confusion on charging. »

Our party consisted of 4 adults, 1 OAP, 2 teenagers and 1 toddler. We looked at the £12.50 cream tea and decided that we probably did not need to order one for each person, as there were a few small eaters in the group. So we were discussing whether we should order 5 teas rather than 7 (one for each person with toddler sharing). At that point the very helpful member of staff recommended that we would probably need about 4 teas. We then order a latte and had some more scones so that everyone got one. It was a lovely tea, very tasty and sitting in the conservatory overlooking the lake was a great setting. Then the bill came and my mother (the OAP) said she wanted to pay. Off she went to be presented with a bill for over £80. It seems that we were still charged per person at £12.50 each. My sister-in-law took my mother back to the hotel and on discussion they refunded part of the cost. However what seemed like really friendly and helpful customer service backfired. Don't be put off going though just make sure you know what you are actually going to be charged for.

    « Visit for refreshments »

Visited normanton park hotel after walking round Rutland water. We were in need of drinks and a little something. We have been to this hotel several times before it was taken over by best western and have always had excellent service, quality and value. On this visit however it was very different. I ordered two coffees, one scone. Which came to £12.60. We were served with the coffee after quite a wait. But it was a nice afternoon so we did not mind. We finished our coffee but still did not get the scone. But we waited a little more. After about an hour and half we decided we had waited long enough. So we went in and asked for a refund. We were treated appallingly. The attitude was "what's the problem". If the hotel was busy or if it had a wedding to deal with I would have understood. But there was nothing on at the hotel. Such a shame it used to be a favourite place of mine. We are not happy. If I could give it zero on the score I would.

    « Hi tea »

Had hi tea £12.50 per pax. We ordered 2 pax and shared among 3 of us. Nice sandwiches esp the roast beef, scones and average cakes and gd service. Quiet but it was facing carpark, not rutland waters. Still overall a pleasant experience.

    « A fantastic Wedding »

I recently had my wedding at the Normanton Park Hotel, and I must say given previous reviews regarding the place I was slightly anxious! However I could not of been proved more wrong. The service and organisation was brilliant, and the attention to detail from staff, and their willingness to go out there way was excellent. I stayed in the Bridal Suite for 2 nights and it was stunning. The facilities within the room were what you would expect for the top end room, and the Jacuzzi Bath was a lovely bonus - my only gripe was there wasn't enough hot water to fill it on the 2nd morning (probably more people in rooms using the hot water?) However I cannot complain as I used it several times! There was two balconies both with gorgeous views over looking the water. The instant hot chocolate is literally the BEST chocolate I have ever had! Whilst the four poster bed was HUGE, and decorated well, the mattress could be upgraded. The room had a lovely dressing table and plenty of wardrobe space, and room for my bridal party to get ready. The food on the day was perfect, and all my wedding guests commented on the organisation and stunning views. Thank you Normanton for a great day!

    « A special birthday lunch »

My family booked a special birthday lunch for me. As there was a party of us and we wanted to sit together, rather than eating in the dining room the management set a long table up in the library, we had excellent service they couldn't do enough for us to make us welcome and the food was excellent too with a varied menu including a vegetarian dish. The hotel itself is situated almost on the banks of Rutland water and from the library, double doors led onto extensive gardens. We had the benifit of it being a really hot suuny day. High recommend it.

« Amazing from booking to check out!! »

My Mum treated us to a night away for our 9th Wedding Anniversary and I found this hotel on offer on Living Social....I'm so glad I did. When I rang to book Daniel gave us a special room as it was our anniversary. When we checked in we were shown to our room and booked into the restaurant for dinner. After a walk around Rutland Water and a quick trip to Stamford for lunch we came back to the hotel and sat in our room with a drink overlooking the beautiful water. We were very lucky with the weather it was a glorious sunny day. We ate dinner in the restaurant and Daniel had organised some prose co for us to celebrate , which was very thoughtful. We were each given a beautiful fresh olive bread roll and then I had the prawn spaghetti and my Husband had the sirloin steak both of which were delicious. I then had a cheese board and Hubby had the apple pie. Both of which were yum!!! We ended up having a night cap in the bar under the watchful eye of Daniel and Stacey. After a very stuff sleep we had breakfast , firstly there was the continental selection of juice , fruits and cheese and meat and we ordered cooked breakfast , myself poached eggs and veggie sausage and my Hubby the full English. All of which was lovely , although the eggs were hard but didn't spoil our experience. If I had to find one negative about the hotel it would be the shower which was unpredictable in temperature and really needed a hook on the wall for it to be easier to use!! The positives were the staff , the food and definitely the location. We will return to this hotel again and again and next time bring our bikes for a good look around the water and next time we will stay two nights to really explore!! I just have to say anyone who gives a bad review of this hotel because of service or food - ignore them!!!

    « Poor Sunday service »

My fiancée and myself came here to check out the hotel for a possible wedding venue, we asked if there was a area to enjoy some tea and afternoon cakes and directed to the conservatory area. Upon walking in my fiancee asked a waitress if we seat ourselves or wait, she was brushed off very rudely by a young female waitress. As she saw us we assumed she would serve us but we waited a good 10 minutes before this happened. During our wait an older female waitress served a small family but neglected to acknowledge us and she went and prepared another table for service and cleared away another table. We were only served after a lady from the bar area came to ( I assume ) help with the covers. It's a shame that this experience has ruined what is a great hotel and area. If two staff members can't serve one cover, how on earth can they accommodate a wedding? We must give our compliments to the lady in the black shirt who served us she was apologetic for the wait and took our cappuccinos off the bill, the food was lovely.

    « Pretty Good - Excellent Food »

Usually I book my stays with the chains to ensure that my hotel is to a minimum standard but this looked a little difficult in this area, so I looked at Trip Advisor and the Normanton Park looked good. Upon arriving the reception was good and the room was spacious and clean. Looking at the menu the food looked a little bit fussy for my palate but this certainly wasn't the case. The food was of exceptional quality and taste, the trout for starter and rolled pork belly for main being absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and friendly. When looking out my bedroom window in the morning I found that there was a beautiful view of the lake and garden and it looked like some really good walks too. The only negative was that the bath/shower was not really conducive to having a shower. There was a shower curtain but the water temperature was very difficult to regulate. I would have awarded five stars if this hadn't been the case. I would certainly recommend this hotel, as long as you have time for a bath.

    « Not so great »

While in the UK for work we stayed at various Best Western hotels. The Normanton Park hotel was quite a let down. We had no hot water for 2 days which is a bit of an issue in the cold weather. The waiter at breakfast was also very unhelpful. This was most likely an singular bad experience when looking at the other reviews.

« Good place to stay »

We have stayed here so 6 time now whilst it was under various owners, but the best to date has to be Best Western, well run, clean, nice staff, and a breakfast to die for, a good place to rest your head

    « A LITTLE GEM »

Had a fantastic 2 night stay for my 60th Birthday weekend. From the minute we arrived at the hotel the staff were amazing and I cannot thank them enough, they made my weekend very special. The food was superb, the accommodation was outstanding and feedback from my family and friends has been excellent. Special thanks to Sarah, Daniel and Di for their attention to detail and warm welcome.

    « Perfectly acceptable Hotel »

Staying for only one night. Was concerned when directed to my room due to low ceilings. I am 6ft 2in and 20 stone. Room was small but clean and tidy Food in restaurant was excellent and the staff charming. Eat breakfast overlooking the water. All in all a good stay which I will repeat when in the area.

    « Another great experience »

After getting married at this hotel last year my wife and I returned for Valentines Day for dinner. Once again the service was excellent from Daniel. The food was outstanding and definitely value for money. We will be returning again very soon.

    « Great surrounds »

Bit pricey. Female receptionist on duty not that welcoming, Lovely breakfast and very friendly waitress serving. Beautiful view. Large bedroom. However disappointed to see chipped paint on bathroom door especially when paying over £100. Also dog barking next door.

« Only stopped for coffee »

Popped in after a walk along the bank of Rutland Water. Dog friendly, we sat in the lounge and had coffee. Friendly service and nicely presented coffee. The lunch menu offered some interesting sandwich/light bite ideas, maybe for another day. The outside of the hotel is lovely with views of Normanton church and the water. Snowdrops and planted boxes made the grounds look cared for too.

« The Only Thing Good Was the Food. »

After having a really nice, bracing walk around Rutland Water we checked into the Normanton Park Hotel. On checking out our room (Clipsham) on the ground floor of a detached annex building we were pleased to have a Jacuzzi Bath and bizarrely a heated toilet seat (Must buy one for home...) We met with friends for drinks and arranged dinner for 8 people for 7.30. The food was really good and not one of our party had anything negative to say about any of the three course meal. We retired at about 22.45 as everyone was suffering from their days walking and needed a good night's sleep. This is really where our Normanton Park Hotel experience began. We got back to our room and there was a really unpleasant sewer smell in the bathroom, being tired we decided to just put up with it (wasn't noticeable in the bedroom) and just get some needed sleep. The bed was knackered, the slightest movement created really loud creaking noises, this married with probably the most uncomfortable mattress we had ever laid upon wasn't the start to our planned restful nights shuteye. We turned off the TV (mounted at a very strange angle on the wall) and tried to lie still on the rock hard mattress to stop the bed creaking. This happened to be the least of the problems. After lying there for 30 minutes or so I came to the conclusion that the building was made from tissue paper and whoever was in the room upstairs was either related to an Elephant, wearing hob nailed boots or practicing for a forthcoming furniture removal marathon. In addition the bath upstairs sounded like it was a waterfall directly on our ceiling (which was ran 3 or 4 times over the next 4 hours) and the extractor fan in the upstairs bathroom was 20 times louder than the one in our own, the television sounded that loud we didn't need ours on to follow the scheduled programming and when that was turned off the music took me back to a 1990 rave I had attended in Manchester. After not getting any sleep at all, I heard another guest go up to the room, I looked at my watch and it was 3.00am another bath was run? we had really had enough. It is at this point that we found out that the bed upstairs was in a very similar condition to ours, the rhythmic creaking's and noises of pure unadulterated passion were really too much to deal with, we decided to quickly pack our bags and go home. This is the first time, staying in hundreds of hotels that we have ever left in the middle of the night, we could have complained but that would have involved going to reception across a freezing cold courtyard in the middle of the night, at this point I just wanted to go home. I must add that as far as I am aware our other friend who stayed here didn't have the same night's entertainment as ourselves, we must have just been the lucky ones. To sum up, the food is really good, however if you book and stay in the Clipsham room and are unfortunate enough to stay at the same time as the furniture removing, fornicating Elephant herd I feel your pain.

    « Business stay »

Booked this hotel on special winter rate, very good value, hotel clean, superb location, breakfast was efficient and tasty. Room was alittle cold but warmed up nicely when heating turned on. Would stay here again on special rate prices, however full rate is expensive, when on a budget

    « groupon »

the country side and walks are great. we hired a couple of bikes and cycled around the reservoir. the restaurant food was very nice. however, some of the reception staff in the hotel itself seemed to forget that they are there to look after us. they came across as rude and abnoxious. the room we had had a very small window to the outside world and we couldn't see anything out of it due to it being at the side of the building and next to the wall. if we had paid full price for that room then I would of complained bitterly.

« Overnight stay for private party. »

Matresses needed totally upgrading. Tried one room and asked to change. They should be ashamed to have a mattress like that in the hotel. Second room had a slightly better matress but was not brilliant. I had to ring a few days later for a refund as we were charged too much for the room which we settled for. The party and food were very good and the staff efficient. Coffee when we first got there was stewed and I only received half a cup. At £2.50 I would have liked a full cup! I think the hotel needs refurbishing in some areas. It looks as if it is struggling to keep up. It is a shame as the setting is superb.

« Comfortable hotel in its own grounds overlooking Rutland Water. »

I stayed at this hotel for one night on a leisure trip to go bird watching on Rutland Water. On the internet I had just booked a double room but when I arrived I decided to upgrade to a room with a view of the lake. For a small supplement of just over £8 I was given the Preston suite. This was a very nice room with a four-poster bed, a large desk, two comfortable armchairs and french windows with a view of the lake. The bathroom had a whirlpool bath with a shower over one end. As I hadn't used one of these baths before I had to try it. It was quite pleasant and there was plenty of hot water. I had my evening meal in the Clock Restaurant, which is an intimate dining area. From the reviews I was not sure how good it was going to be. The meal that I had was excellent, and as I like fine dining, I am fussy about what I am paying for. The Rack of lamb with Lyonnais potatoes, mange tout and rosemary jus was spot on, the 4 lamb ribs were beautifully tender, and the potatoes and mange tout just right. This was followed by the Rich double chocolate tart with vanilla pod ice cream. The chocolate tart had a lot of chocolate in it which meant the texture was quite dense but as it wasn't too sweet it was very enjoyable with the vanilla pod ice cream complementing it. I retired to the bar for a coffee and a liqueur. The people serving in the bar were the same two staff serving in the restaurant. As it was a quiet night this wasn't a problem, however I hope they have more staff on when they are busy. The following morning I had breakfast in the conservatory which on a nice day would have had good views of the grounds and lake beyond. There were plenty of cereals and fruit available but I went for the full english. The service was good and the breakfast was fine except that I asked for scrambled eggs and they looked more like an omelette. Overall I enjoyed my stay here, the price was reasonable and I would go again. The Wi-Fi reception in the Preston suite was excellent, I was able to stream a video from the internet without any stuttering.

Had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was very nice although a bit of a draught was blowing through the old window frame.Everything you could wish for in the room, plenty of complimentary tea/coffee and lovely free toiletries in the bathroom.Breakfast was very good with enough choices to suit everyone. We found all the staff to be very helpful and nothing was to much trouble.would stay there again.

« SLOW SERVICE. MEDIOCRE MEAL. DISAPPOINTING. »

Went for Christmas Lunch with a large crowd. (Didn't stay in hotel.) Admittedly, it's always harder to serve a big number of people at the same time. However, the service was painfully slow and took far longer than that for a similar meal at all other venues in the locality. The starter was nice. The main course was mediocre, with overlooked veg., no bread sauce, (No sausage or bacon for one guest on our table) and no jugs of extra gravy or anything else offered. The Christmas pudding came with a yellow sauce or custard of some sort, not brandy sauce and was barely lukewarm. The drinks were a ludicrous price. £5.50 for a SMALL glass of wine is absolutely extortionate! The view from part of the restaurant is stunning. The view from our table and the one next to ours was nil. - Unless you count the dreadful obscured glass as a view!

    « Disappointing »

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night, to catch up with friends. Very disappointed, the draft beer was undrinkable, tried 3 different beers all terrible. Seemed as though the pipes needed a good clean. When we pointed it out, we were told " I don't know, I don't drink beer. The rooms are seriously out dated, tired, scruffy and we were up graded. The walls are so thin you hear every thing, every movement from your neighbours. On the plus side the food was good and stunning views.

    « A VERY ENERGETIC BREAK »

Just had a two night break at this hotel and found it very good. The room we had(BROOKE)was very good with plenty of room and kept very clean. The bathroom had a shower and a very inviting bath with loads of very hot water which was a blessing after we had cycled round rutland water on both days we were there. We had a evening meal on the first night and found the food was excellent. All the staff we met were all very attentative and were all very good in there jobs.As well as the evening meal we also had breakfast which was very good.We will certainly use this hotel again mainly for its situation, the views while having breakfast overlooking Rutland Water are magnificent.

    « Dissapointing »

Beautiful views, the rest was terrible food cold and tasteless, rooms outdated and not very clean wouldn't go again, which is a shame because of the views. When booking was led to believe this was a top rated hotel, clearly wasn't.

    « Lovely location »

We stayed the weekend for a wedding. The room was large and nicely laid out. On arrival the room was chilly and we had to turn the radiator on, the room did warm up quite quickly. The bathroom was a little tired looking with some floor tiles cracked and mould around bath grouting. The bath had a couple of hairs in it and one of the coasters the glasses were put on also had a hair on, needless to say I washed the glasses and threw away the coasters. On a positive, the shower pressure was great and plenty of hot water. Other than that the room was clean enough. The staff were friendly, the food was excellent and the location was amazing. I would recommend for the location and the friendliness of the staff.

« Left two days early! »

Hotel in lovely situation overlooking the lake, food was very good and the service efficient and friendly - these are the only good points! We were in the annex in Rockingham Room. Sound insulation was so poor that I doubt if there is any at all. Heard upstairs guests snoring all night and they sounded like a herd of elephants when they walked around, also when they had a shower etc. it sounded as though it was in our room! Bed./pillows were rock hard, duvet not adequate to cover two people without one getting chilled through the night. Heating not working, clock/ radio not working, (had two!) Bathroom was stifling hot and very small - the door banged the loo when opened and I think we could do without the heated loo seat! Underfloor heating in there but not in the bedroom, a shower that spewed water all over floor and very hard and dangerous to regulate heat of water. from the taps over the bath.TV was cockeyed and looked as if in danger of falling off the wall. Housekeeping left a lot to be desired. Having spent two very uncomfortable nights we decided to cut our losses and return home. Reception were not at all bothered that we were leaving, just muttered 'oh sorry' - no hint of 'would you like to change rooms/see the Manager etc.' This is the first time ever we have left a hotel prior to the planned end of stay and definitely we will not recommend this one. If all Best Westerns are of a similar standard then we will not be returning to any more in this chain.

    « A lot to be desired...... »

Recently stayed there for a wedding, rooms were outdated and not very clean, the food wasn't great either, breakfast was poor and the wedding lunch was terrible it lacked taste and was cold. The only good thing was the beautiful views, wouldn't reccomend.

    « No atmosphere. »

We stayed in the room called The Normanton, a large room with view of the lake £97. The room was basic, tired and not pristine, there were a few long hairs on the carpet which were not mine and the toilet pan looked stained (they should invest in some bleach or change the toilet pan). We were attending a wedding at Normanton Church so it was convenient but I would not return for anything else. One redeeming factor was the evening mea in the restaurantl which was excellent well cooked and well presented, but I did think that £24 for a steak was a little over the top.

    « Lovely setting »

This is a unique hotel, being the stables to a former manor. Our room was situated in part of the original stable courtyard as opposed to the main building. Renovation of the hotel has been carefully thought out and everything is elegant & easy on the eye. Situated as it is on the banks of Rutland Water it all makes for a very enjoyable break. Staff were helpful and courteous. Our break was a special offer which included dinner. ( quite common at this hotel) Beware - the offer is only ONE course and at £6.50+ for starter or pudding, you may be caught out! Food was superbly cooked however at around £17-20 for a main it's too costly for us. Breakfast is in the lovely conservatory. The usual fruits/cereals and then a freshly cooked English breakfast. Other choices cost extra. My only annoyance is,that in the courtyard anyway, the walls are too thin. We had children in the adjoining room, baby started to wail at 3am quickly followed by their toddler, who literally screamed until 4.30am, when I presume they finally mollified him. So I've come home tireder then I went!

« Dan the Man, yes he can! »

Recently had the opportunity of staying at this wonderful hotel as we were attending a wedding! Forget the Xfactor this place has the WOW factor, one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. The gravelled drive way leads you into a courtyard of this privately run hotel. A small reception area with a big welcome greets you when you enter this 18th century stone clad stable. Our room was overlooking the carpark and was a little on the small side but as we spent limited time there this was not an issue but if you are a little on the tall side mind your head on the sloping ceiling (I learnt the hard way, ouch!!). It had all the basics, kettle, tea, coffee, iron, ironing board, trouser press and bathroom toiletries, everything you need for a weekend. Being part of a wedding party we got to meet Dan,nothing, I mean nothing was too much trouble for him, he seemed to be everywhere? His hard working staff made sure the wedding was a success and they all deserve a pat on the back. Breakfast was ample and the coffee hot, the perfect start to the day. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, check mine out.

« Fantastic Rooms, Food and Views »

The hotel has a very warm and welcoming team, the service from the team was just amazing, Daniel who looks after the dinner and hospitality was incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We booked the venue for a function and the hotel rooms we had were amazing. The food was fantastic, great quality and lots of it!! The sticky toffee pudding was a massive hit! Fantastic views right by Normanton church in Rutland Water, very quiet and out of the way, ideal place to get away.

    « Afternoon tea »

Afternoon tea Normanton park at the end of September. My wife and I did a groupon deal including prosecco for £19. It was all good, but it must be wonderful on a nice day looking over Rutland water. Sarnies, cakes, scones and drinks were all very nice.

« lovely location. a bit dark inside. decent coffee »

We went for coffee and inside was a bit scruffy in places and a bit dark and depressing. what a shame there isnt more use made of the lovely location and views overlooking rutland water. It would be so much nicer to sit in a sun room overlooking the view. Perhaps there is such a room but we didnt realise ! Service was a bit slow and haphazard

    4
    « Always ask for a Lake/reservoir view »

Well placed in a beautiful spot but make sure you ask for and get (you probably have to book early) a room with a view over the water...other rooms are distinctly unappealing. The restaurant serves a good choice of evening meal and breakfast, has a view across the water and some magnificent sunsets.

    5
« The food was exquisite »

Nice rooms, friendly staff, beautiful view, but the food was five star, the chef who is Hungarian served the lamb perfectly cooked. The beef just right , beautiful presented. The pear for dessert with black current sorbet was delicious. My compliments.
