    « Lunch with friends »

We are a group of friends that used to work together for many years, we all catch up once a year at the Forest Lodge to have Sunday lunch in the Glasshouse. Staff are always very friendly, the food and service was excellent a big thank you to Jade for looking after us. We will be back next year.

    « Meeting friends & family »

We've stayed here before with our Parsons Terrier and were given the same room this time, which was good as it was on the ground floor, close to the lounge, bar & reception area. We had to eat our meals in the bar area, which was no problem because we had our dog with us, but it would have been nice to have the table laid as it is in the restaurant, with a table cloth etc. The staff were very friendly & helpful & I would definitely stay here again. Car park gets full quickly as this hotel is also a conference venue, but there are many walks to do, so unless you're intending to travel far afield, once you've parked up, you don't really need to move your car.

    « Truly dog friendly »

We had a fantastic weekend at forest lodge, taking our 15 week old puppy we were a bit nervous but the staff were fantastic. There are even towels and dog biscuits in the lobby, and we were able to eat in the bar with the dog. There were lots of dogs and they all got on fine and made our stay the best ever. Dog owners are friendly people so we chatted to everyone and learnt great places to take our puppy for her first adventures to the beach and the new forest. Truly dog friendly, never been to a hotel that actually welcomes dogs before, a real gem.

    « A Little Beauty »

We did a couple of nights here with my sister and her hubby for their wedding anniversary. The food was wonderful, you did have to wait a bit though at busy times, but we believe, it was worth the wait. The staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were excellent and the hotel is set in easy walking distance of the town of Lyndhurst. All round a great choice - we will return

    « Excellent party venue »

Booked this quite late for father in laws ninetieth birthday party , they laid on a separate room and music. Food was excellent and service superb Traffic to the hotel was a nightmare Thank you we will be back

« Friendly staff, great food... but geriatric music! »

This was a gem of a place in general. The staff were incredibly polite and helpful. The food was surprisingly good. The room was very comfortable. The music on the other hand was pure torture and the person who chose it needs to be fired or retired. Musical treats in the restaurant included: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Delilah (Tom Jones) and Amazing Grace. Painful. We're in our 50s and couldn't bear it. If we'd taken our kids, they'd have been hammering on the doors to be let out.

    « 2 day stay »

Lovely hotel hotel and location , staff were all very friendly and couldn't do enough for you , rooms were cosy and well appointed , breakfast was lovely and cooked to order , we also had a meal in the restaurant the first evening , 3 courses and a bottle of wine and it was lovely and plenty of it , struggled to eat dessert but did ??looking at booking next stay there

« Excellent place to visit »

Found all staff very friendly and helpful, nice size room, very comfortable. Breakfast was good, nice swimming pool. Ideal quiet location, only 5 minute walk to Lyndhurst with a couple of nice pubs and places to eat, also close to other lovely places to visit in the New Forest. Will definitely be visiting again

    « Another good stay »

Just returned from The Forest Lodge Hotel, very good as usual. Have been many times as it is only an hours drive from home and is perfect for a nice weekend away. Hotel accommation, public areas and swimming pool very good. The food I have always found to be superb and this time was no exception, good variety on the menu and nicely presented. If you are looking for a nice break I have no reservations in recommending this hotel.

« Excellent place to stay »

Found the staff very friendly and helpful, nice size room, very comfortable, excellent shower. Ideal quiet location, only 5 minute walk to Lyndhurst. Breakfast was very good apart from having to listen to the music of Tom Jones in the morning. Bar menu and food was very good and a couple of pubs a couple of minutes walk away. We had an afternoon tea during our stay which was lovely, nice lounge area, very comfy chairs.

« Excellent and traditional hotel »

Recently spent 2 days at this hotel, which was very comfortable and pleasant. When we arrived, our room was not quite ready but the receptionist, very cheerful Michelle, made us aware of what was happening and made us comfortable. The evening meal was excellent and the carrot and orange soup was to die for. Very impressed with the recipe for the soup being delivered from the chef Sophie (thank you, having a New Year's Eve dinner and will be part of the recipe!). Service at the meal was a little slow towards the end because of a large group of Belgian tourists, that suddenly appeared and appeared to want serving immediately, but irrespective of this would definitely go back to hotel

« Great location for exploring the New Forest »

We come here every year for a walking holiday as we find the location very central for visiting the New Forest. The 3 nights for the cost of 2 deal makes it very good value. Its an easy walk into Lyndhurst and an ideal base for walking/cycling in the New Forest. Exbury Gardens, Butlers Yard and Beaulieu are all an easy pleasant short drive away. We always stay on a DB&B deal as we have found the meals to be generally very good. The quality of the meals do however change depending on the chef. If the Head chef is on the food is always excellent, if not we have found that the quality goes down. All the staff are very polite, friendly and helpful. We look forward to our next stay

« Excellent Four Day Break »

Recently stayed at the Forest Lodge Hotel as part of a Pensioner Group: we enjoy two long weekend breaks a year in a party of 35 or so, and rarely have a bad experience. This break had a lot to live up to, and did so in spades in almost every regard. The location, right in the middle of the New Forest enjoying all the animals, forestry and wild-life that this brings, and the hotel building itself, with a newly refurbished swimming pool (albeit quite small but perfectly adequate) were perfect, and literally two minutes walk from the village centre. The Dining Room looked amazing, although we enjoyed our meals in a separate room. The Food, which we do usually individually pre order from a menu of three starters, main meals and sweets, was on this occasion without doubt Michelin Star quality on each of the three days we had dinner. This is no mean feat for such a large group. The two chefs were introduced to us on the last evening, and it was no surprise to learn the one of them is being tutored by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of TV fame. Breakfast, was ordered at the table and served fresh, pastries and cereal etc were available on serve yourself basis. I must comment specifically about the Staff, who were excellent. The Manager, Andy, was attentive throughout our stay, and keen to ensure that not only were there no problems, but that we made the most of our stay. Beth, the Duty Manager was equally attentive, and she and Andy were both quick to jump to bar duties when the need arose. Similarly Jade was a very helpful young lady with several others on duty in our Dining room on Friday. All the Staff though, including the Cleaning staff, were helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The only very slight minus point of our stay, and it does seem in the the greater scheme of things to be a little churlish to even mention it but I do believe in giving both good and bad, was our room. Whilst the General Guide stated there were Thermostatic Controls for temperature, none were available, and the only way to adjust was to open the window! We also had to ask the Cleaning Staff to Change the Cushions on the Bed, which smelt very musty. To their credit, they did so immediately. These small points aside, this Hotel in the hands of the current Management and Staff is brilliant.

« Nice hotel but flawed »

This hotel is essentially very nice. It is situated in a nice area (near a couple of pubs and within striking distance of the village centre). It is however, flawed. It tries to be sophisticated but just ends up falling short each time. For example, on our arrival we had a cream tea but the scones were doughy and one was totally inedible. The public areas are nice but needed a good hoover. Our room had bits of rubbish on the floor which is a bit off putting. We expected complimentary gowns and slippers in our room (as we had paid for the upgrade) but all there was was one gown. The bedroom was far too hot on both nights. We had made sure the radiators were off and the window fully opened but this did nothing to help with the heat. On the second night we found a fan and had it on full power throughout the night and still didn't make a difference. Our dinner on the first night was exceptional!! The best steak I had eaten in ages! I savoured every mouthful. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster though. It took a while to seat us and our tea arrived about ten minutes before our breakfast did. When the tea arrived it didn't come with milk either. The breakfast had to be ordered and it was underwhelming to say the least. A cheap tasting sausage and bacon. The toast machine was set to 'soggy' and if you dared put it through again it came out partially cremated. The second nights dinner was a step down from the first night. The menu is limited so we had to eat the same dinner again but it differed from the first time we had it. We sent one steak back as it was riddled with fat. My steak was ok but it was missing the sauce that I got with it the previous day. The second day's breakfast was just as bad as the first unfortunately. However, the staff are friendly and we made good use of the swimming pool and sauna!!! Ultimately it wasn't worth the money paid to stay there but it is still a nice venue (just avoid breakfast and bring extra fans!).

« Good Location but uncomfortable beds »

The hotel is in a good location, within easy walking distance of Lyndhurst, and central for all of the New Forest attractions. The room was nicely decorated, but the beds were very soft and lumpy, also the water pressure in the shower was low. The swimming pool was a welcome treat, and the breakfast was good (although not included in the price when we booked through Expedia).

    4
« Good family friendly hotel »

Booked with a Paultons Park break. Just 10 mins drive away from the theme park. 5/10 mins easy walk into the centre of Lyndhurst for choice of evening dining. Nice spacious room and good breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice pool for early morning dip with the kids before day 2 back at the theme park. Only downside was the pull out sofa bed in our room was a little snug for 2 children although they managed as get on ok.

    « Really good food »

Thank you Eliot and Rhys- the starters (fish cakes and prawn cocktail) were lovely, main courses (rump steak and trout) fantastic and pudding (lemon posset) sublime. We would definitely recommend! Fantastic friendly service too.

    « Nice room »

We stayed here for 3 nights and hotel was very nice with lots of space and a big double bed. The Food was nice as well but the hotel seemed a bit old and the wifi was a bit slow however it was a well presented place in a great location.

    « Lovely Hotel »

Great location , we were visiting Peppa Pig world with our 2 boys and choose Forest Lodge as it's the closest hotel (7min drive) with a pool, which they loved! Lydhurst high st is a nice little stroll away, for a few shops and restaurants. The hotel was nice, slightly dated but we liked that as gave it a sense of charm. the staff were warm friendly and very helpful. The resturant food was superb , i didn't expect it to be that good but was genuinely one of the best meals i'd had in a while. My wife's Rocket and Mushroom linguine didn't come with the rocket which was annoying for her and i was disappointed for her as my food was so good , Blade of beef, highly recommend! We are sure to return to peppa pig world and will be staying here again without hesitation, i just hope i get a softer bed!

We recently stayed at the Forest Lodge, walking distance into Lyndhurst and into the New Forest, clean pleasant rooms with very comfy beds, good pool, excellent restaurant and customer service. We will be going back.

« Welcoming and comfortable, in a beautiful location. What more could you want. »

Just a 2 night break, to check out the autumn New Forest colours and have a relaxing time after a very busy few weeks. The room was lovely - had the little extras that matter to us: a non-slip bath mat; a night light in the bathroom; lots of drawer space; good sized wardrobe; nice bathroom; drinks tray. The bar and lounges were cosy and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and served with friendly efficiency and a smile by April. Reception staff, breakfast staff, bar staff - everyone seemed to enjoy their jobs, and wanted us to enjoy our break. We really enjoyed it, and hope to go back again sometime.

« Excellent service for a club lunch »

Club lunch for 23 with speaker and presentation after. The manager was calm and unruffled, set everything up beautifully, and the lunch (2 courses) was excellent. Good value. Service, food, and presentation was all very good - we shall be back.

    « Disabled friendly »

As a powered wheelchair user the room allocated to me (3) was large enough to rotate my chair easily. The shower room is not a wet room so you need to weight bear to transfer onto the shower chair. The decor in both the restaurant and breakfast room is lovely with the food being very good indeed. The staff went the extra mile to make our stay very enjoyable.

« Enjoying an afternoon tea received as a gift »

My wife received a gift voucher, for the afternoon tea, as part of a group of gifts when she retired. We hadn't expected anything special but we're delighted by the room allocated, by a window in soft armchairs. You can enjoy this outside in more clement weather. The traditional three tier unit containing a selection of fresh sandwiches, sweet biscuits, assorted cake and, of course, scones with clotted cream and jam. The jam could have been of a better quality but was good enough. Fresh coffee was served afterwards and, all in all, was made very gracious with smiling staff and delightful settings. We will do this again on our own volition. We would certainly recommend this venue and the bar also looked extremely welcoming.

    « Quick sightseeing trip »

This is a nice hotel with charming, well-trained staff, attentive duty managers and an excellent rural location close to attractive beauty spots. There were only a few small things wrong (mentioned above) which can easily be put right. We would have stayed longer had two of our 3-person party not been ill recently.

    « Wonderful wedding location »

Got married here on October 1st and it was perfect. The location, the rooms, the staff, I couldn't ask for more at a very reasonable price. Elise made all the arrangements and was brilliant at making sure all my questions were answered. On the day, Elise and Ronnie were just amazing, any problems I had were sorted our quickly and professionally. Our friends and family took up about half the hotel's rooms for 2 nights and were looked after admirably by all the staff. Breakfast was really good, both the self service food and cooked to order. The food supplied for the wedding breakfast was excellent and just the right amount. The room was beautifully decorated too. When some evening guests decided to try to get rooms on the night, Michelle did a great job looking after them all and Donna was particularly helpful during checkout. All the staff seemed to enjoy the day as much as we did and it ended up being a day everyone will remember with a smile. Thank you.

    « Our Long Weekend »

Thirty six of us booked into the Forest Lodge Hotel for a long weekend in October 2016. This is a small comfortable hotel with friendly staff who went out of thier way to make us welcome. Lyndhurst is only a ten minute walk away which is a bonus as parking in Lyndhurst is not easy. The best thing about the weekend was the amazing food. Breakfast was cooked to order and not a boring breatfast buffet. Dinner was exceptional. My wife and I had a ground floor room that was very comfortablr. Not all the ground floor rooms are step free. If you have problems with steps request request a room that is before the fiive steps.

    « Comfortable escape »

The Forest Lodge is a small friendly hotel a short walk from delightful Lyndhurst. We went using our Tesco vouchers and the welcome was first class. Menu turned out to be good value compared to other venues in the area. Room comfortable but rather warm, though an openable window was a godsend. Bedside lighting no good if you're a reader. Wondered why the bathroom extractor fan didn't come on - we later discovered how noisy it could be, so it remained off! would be good if they put Nespresso Coffee machines in the bedrooms and what about kippers on the breakfast menu?

    « Great stay »

This is one of the best BW I've been too. A small luxury hotel with comfortable rooms and great open dining room. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good stay for business or couples. They also have an indoor pool.

    « Awful »

Having used new forest hotels over the years this trip was being looked forward to as another successful trip, but it turned out to be anything but. We walked into our room (one near to the swimming pool) it was freezing cold with windows open. We put the radiator on but it took hours to warm up We overlooked a roof and part of the car park, no view whatsoever. The room was dull, drab and with most bland dark wood furniture I've ever seen. Not even a picture on the wall to try to at least brighten it up. We asked if we could move but was told no we have a wedding on and are full. So off to our evening meal to be greeted by a very miserable waitress. The menu, whilst extensive was very difficult to pick something without garlic, fish or blue cheese (which is not everyone's taste) I eventually had the chicken minus the stuffing, husband had the burger. My meal arrived with 4 small quarters of potato,5 diagonal pieces of carrot and a piece of anaemic looking chicken which whilst was cooked i personally think it had been boiled - it was wet and tasteless. The burger was about 80% cooked therefore hardly able to eat, chips were extremely greasy. I could have sent both meals back and had something else or cooked properly but unfortunately I don't trust what would have been done to those meals before coming out to us. Back in our room I rang new forest hotels and spoke to a lovely young lady who offered a couple of solutions, we opted to have 2 nights refunded and leave on the sat morning. She came to see us after speaking to the manager who apparently apologised. On checking out on the Saturday the receptionist said sorry it didn't work out you should have come to see me I'd have moved you to another room I said thought you were full, no was the reply. It would not have changed the state of the food but may have made the experience slightly better in a nicer room - we would have eaten elsewhere. No note from management to even make an effort to show they were sorry. It's the Bartley Lodge from now on for us, it is far superior. This hotel is in a chain with best western and quite frankly shows. The quicker they get back under new forest hotels only the better.

    « Sunday Lunch »

Had an excellent Sunday Roast at Forest Lodge Hotel. Highly recommend. The roast was delightful with tender meat, gorgeous vegetables and especially enjoyed the optional roasted garlic. The starters and puddings were delightful and so nice to have such a different selection to the norm. Head chef Rhys thank you so much, also to Jade, Ronnie & Chrisfor a great Sunday Lunch.

    « Worth a visit »

Have stayed at this hotel on a few occasions and although not cheap it is well worth the money. Staff are always so polite and friendly its a pleasure to speak with them.Facilities are good to. Would definately recommend this hotel

    « Great for a short break »

Good location. The room was big and well refurbished . I was really pleased with the bed that they offered to my kids, not always I find the same courtesies in other hotels. The indoor pool is big so my kids enjoyed it . we didn't try the restaurant but the hotel is near to the town so plenty of options there. I had the idea that they are short on staff .Definitely I would love to go back.

« Holiday long time coming »

Booked the break through Best Western reservations ( should have gone direct) We where booked in Sunday through to Thursday two rooms only one was secured, but the hotel sorted it out. The hotel is just of a very busy road and you would think you'd here the traffic (you do not). The rooms we had booked were quite spacious and I can honestly say not slept in a better one. Several pubs serving food close by but the restaurant at the hotel is very good (point of note it is leaving the best western chain. So good food comfortable beds excellent location yep they've got it all covered, and as I always finish would I take my mothering law well yes I would yes I did and she loved it (brownie points for me)

    « 2nd Forest Lodge Visit »

We visited the Forest Lodge hotel in March 2016 with our dog and loved everything about it, so decided to take our other dog with us on 12th Sep 2016. We were excited to see we had the same room. Room 4 ground floor, how ever the room this time seemed very dated the carpet was stained and wet by the bath room door, when questioned they said they thought there may be a leak from the bath, but the over all room wasn't as fresh and clean as it was in March. We were disappointed with the restaurant food it seemed very limited and not to the standard it was in March. How ever the staff are excellent, they really look after you, nothing it to much trouble and they make a great fuss of the dogs so you don't feel uncomfortable, which helped a lot as I have a little one that is scared of everything so growls a lot, but by then end of the week our dog, loved all the staff. Will hopefully go back next March .

« Our stay at Forest Lodge, Lyndhurst. »

Another nice Best Western hotel in an ideal location for visiting the New Forest area. We were very pleased with our stay overall but with the following exceptions. My wife and I were staying on the ground floor in room No.4 which we felt was a little gloomy and in need of some updating. In particular the carpet which was badly stained in places and really spoilt the appearance and created a bad impression of what was otherwise a good hotel.

    « 2nd Visit »

In the couple of months since our last visit, this Hotel has improved enormously. The check-in was good, the staff friendly and the food good. Jade in the Restaurant, was like a breath of fresh air, also the young man (sorry I don't know his name), with the goatie was excellent. The breakfast experience has improved 100%. All in all a very nice stay. Thank you,

    5
« Good to be back »

We have stayed here before. We knew it was good then and good to return. The pool facilities are excellent. Because of the siting of the hotel it was easy to walk the dog (important especially evenings and early mornings) and proximity of choice of days out.

« short break with mum »

booked this hotel through New Forest Hotels all the staff I spoke to there were very friendly and helpful. I have very specific requirements when travelling with mum and they were all met. We found the hotel bright and clean, the staff very friendly and cheerful and the food was amazing! we were on DBB and could not fault any of the food. My only gripe was that I think the bedding needed replacing, although it was clean it felt very old including the pillows. Also housekeeping let us down on one day, being very sparse...pulled the bed up , not made.....bins not emptied hospitality tray not topped up. Overall we had a great stay and will be returning

    « A bit overpriced »

We stayed in this hotel for one night. I can't say I was wowed - especially for the price I paid for it (£170+ including a discount - apparently). The room was clean, had its own bathroom, a kettle with tea and coffee, water etc. Bedsheets smelled a bit funky and it wasn't the a nice smell I would say. The staff at the hotel was very nice and polite. The bar had a nice selection of drinks, a few good facilities and breakfast was delicious - that's it really. The hotel is a short walking distance from town centre, which is a nice little quirky place, and I quite liked it although I will not be staying at this hotel again, not for another £170 ..

    « Good for a weekend break »

Stayed here with our very young daughter and my parents to mark a special occasion and explore the new forest. For location, it couldn't be better - just a few minutes walk to Lyndhurst centre / high st. with lots of cafes and shops. With a car, it is easy to get to many attractions/walks in the forest. There are a couple of decent pubs e.g. Waterloo arms very close by whixh I'd recommend - we didn't eat at the hotel beyond the inclusive breakfast although this was very nice with hot a la carte options included and cold buffet. The hotel has a small indoor pool which was very clean and our little girl enjoyed. There is a mini 3 person sauna in there too. Pool area could benefit with a couple more loungers / seats. The hotel itself was quite nice - I am always a bit sceptical about best westerns as the interiors can be dated but the communal areas here, restaurant, bar, little drinks terrace were very nice. The room was also great we were in 38 iirc which is the furthest away from everything down the corridor but was spacious and modern. Bathroom clean with a shower in bath. One thing I'd flag is for families with a buggy, there are a lot of stairs up and down to traverse between the lobby and your rooms. Not a big deal but there are no lifts or step free access. Overall I'd definitely recommend this hotel as a base of operations to visit the new forest for a few days.

    « Very dissappointed »

After choosing this hotel off the internet I was very dissappointed. The photographs on their website are not a bit like the room that we got. Our room was like living in a shoebox and situated on the corridor leading to the pool and overlooking the staff car park where the bin men come to empty the bins very early in the morning. Our room was so small you could not open the bathroom door properly without banging into furniture. We booked a table in their restaurant for our first evening as the food looked very good on their website. Our table was booked for 7.30. It took 40 minutes for our starter to arrive and then it was luke warm. I chose the salmon dish as my main and the salmon was undercooked. Somebody else had to send their burger back because it was raw in the middle and my husband's chips were very greasy. Did not eat there on the second evening. The breakfasts were fine but that's the best thing I can say about the place. Will not be returning

    « Take Two »

We were invited back to this hotel by the Manager after a less than impressive stay in April. Well this stay was like staying in a completely different hotel. We don't live a million miles away so arrived earlier than check in but we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who said we could check in to save time later. The receptionist very kindly check if our room was ready and it was so we were able to unload the car without having to hang around. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to our room (16). The hotel had kindly let us bring our son (it should have been just the two of us) and arranged for the pull down bunk beds to be made up for him, which he loved. The bed was was huge and very very comfy, the room was clean and fresh as was the bathroom. There was plenty of space for our belongings. We all slept well and in the morning we were welcomed by the friendly staff at breakfast. Myself and husband both and the cooked breakfast and it was nice and just the right amount. We had to get our own toast but this was better as we could have hot toast with our cooked breakfast unlike last time. There was a choice of cereals which our son made the most of and a nice selection of yoghurt. All the staff we met on this stay were very welcoming and friendly. Thank you to Martin for welcoming us back to the hotel and for accommodating our son at short notice. After this stay in wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. It is ideally located for the anyone wanting to explore the New Forest.

    « Mediocre »

Arrived on the Friday afternoon. Had drinks in the bar, but hotel seemed short staffed and had to find someone whenever we wanted another drink. Asked what time we wanted the meal that evening - 7.30 pm was not an option, although 7.15 pm was. Went into the restaurant to find that only seven of the tables were occupied (about half?) with a total of about 18-20 guests. Despite this low number, it still took 1.5 hours to get our main course served to us. Good food, but definitely spoilt by the excessive wait. Comfortable, if perhaps tired room in respect of decor. We had booked a wheelchair - friendly room and bathroom facilities were reasonable. Bathroom completely flooded the following morning due to a very slow / blocked shower plughole and it was only as a result of our quick action that the whole of the bedroom carpet wasn't completely ruined. This matter reported to reception and personally to the maintenance guy who MAY have improved the situation for the following morning to a small degree. High speed wifi was anything but, but that said, it was free which, through personal experience is unusual these days. A reasonable stay. ALL staff encountered were extremely helpful and friendly, but this hotel is somewhat overpriced for what you get in my opinion.

« Dated in most ways, great location »

Sadly another review about an English hotel which verges on the Fawlty Towers model. It seems we the choice of this, one that looks like a faded fake dirty stately home or a new business hotel. Non Metro England hasn't caught up with the American, european or eastern boutique hotels. i.e. no A/C, 70s furniture, no HD TV, soft bed & pillows, dirty nets, etc... The property needs totally refitting. It's clean and bright but bland & dated in layout and fixtures. The staff are pleasant but suffer form the 'it's not my job' attitude (haven't grasped multi tasking). They were a few things not working in our room, so we wrote a list & left it on the side intending to discuss with reception. When we came back from breakfast the room was made up & it was gone! However, nothing happened. we were going to mention it but checked out early as the weather turned bad. We were put off by the restaurant, as when we looked in the floor & tables were covered in the results of 'family dinning'.

    « Very enjoyable stay »

Booked for the August bank holiday weekend. Lovely hotel in a very pleasant setting. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Breakfast room is very light and airy with breakfasts cooked individually. We ate in the Glasshouse restaurant on our first night and had a very enjoyable meal. Even managed to find time to try out the lovely indoor swimming pool and sauna. Hotel is ideally placed for touring the New Forest and we will be back.

    « Great Stay »

Booked online and wasn't disappointed when we arrived. In a great location and easy to find. The lady whom checked us in was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and very light and cool . Breakfast was great and nothing was a problem for the waiting staff. Overall it was a great experience and would definitely return and tell people about it .

« Average ? clean, decent food but tired and in need of some TLC »

Hotel is big enough but has seen better days and needs some money throwing at it. Room (#25) was decent enough ? clean, big enough bathroom. Let down by bed ? two single pushed together to create a double. One side was much harder than other, leading to sagging badly in the middle. Main lampshade was covered in thick dust, as was the smoke detector. Room inmate front of hotel but really, really quiet. Food from restaurant was OK, but portions quite small. Technical issues with till in bar during our stay. Breakfast was comprehensive and enjoyable. Overall a very functional experience...feels very much like a 1990s business hotel.

    « very welcoming stay »

Arrived and checked in promptly. 2 nice large size rooms, well presented and clean, small problem with the bed layout that they fixed promptly. dinner was very good. and the pool the next morning was a great option, quiet, clean and nice way to start the day. Breakfast was good, perhaps portion could be bigger.

    « Lovely country break »

Lovely hotel with very attentive staff, will certainly come back again, I had the nicest scrambled egg and smoked salmon breakfast I have ever had and my 4 year old son loved the pool and his food! We had room 5 which was lovely and spacious for us

    2
    « Hot and basic »

It's all very basic. Prices give you the impression that the hotel should be decent but it really isn't. Starting with the blunt receptionist who has an "angry woman chip on her shoulder " attitude, to the lack of air conditioning in the room the whole experience was disappointing.

« Was lovely for a one night stay »

We arrived on Friday at 2pm to the hotel and checked In straight away. The reception staff were all friendly and welcoming. We went up to our room to put out stuff away before heading out for a picnic. The room was average size with a double bed and a small bathroom. The only thing that was off putting was how thin the walls are and how hot the room was the entire time we were there. We put the room being so hot down to our room being pretty much above the swimming pool which in all fairness can't be helped. The pool was great we had it to our selfs Friday afternoon it was lovely and relaxing. The breakfast was ok, plenty of variety with cereals and fruit. We both had cooked breakfasts which were good. Over all the hotel is ok, The rooms could do with a refurb and something doing about the flooring as they do squeak when people walk along the corridor.

« Food let it down »

Lovely staff, a great location, pool option and a huge very soft bed didn't make up for the mainly food-based negatives and the paper thin walls. We stayed for 1 night only, the restaurant was booked up when we arrived so we had dinner in the bar, which wasn't as described in the blurb. It was a small and soulless place and the soggy fish on a wooden board didn't cheer us up. No one came back to clear the table, so no one asked how it was. No one else ate in there. Breakfast was also disappointing, the raw-looking buffet items looked very unappealing so we ordered items from the menu, which were better (porridge) but then again terrible scrambled eggs. So while on the surface quite pleasant it only gets an average from us based on its food offerings.

    « Excellent Hotel »

The room was lovely ,bed was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was great had it all to myself when I went for my early morning swim. The hotel was very quiet for a big hotel not far from town centre where you can easily catch a bus and visit the whole of the new forest..

    « Wedding »

We attended my cousin's wedding. It was a lovely room set up for the occasion, and the hotel staff were very friendly and efficient in organising the movement of us. The canapés with the drinks were delicious, ahead of the delicious wedding breakfast, which was delivered in a timely fashion. Our room was comfortable with everything one needs for an overnight stay, and we wish we had been able to stay longer and make use of the swimming pool.

« Fantastic Pool, food and friendly staff »

Room sizes are great, very comfortable bed, quality furniture and space to relax and unwind in, even in the basic rooms. The pool is lovely, a good size and heated. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was superb with a wide range of items and an all you can eat buffet alongside your cooked meal

    « Lovely, friendly hotel. »

This hotel is in a wonderful position on the edge of Lyndhurst and within easy walking distance of the centre. Expect traffic queues through Lyndhurst if you want to travel through and on towards Brockenhurst. The staff were really polite and friendly and are all english, which is unusual in the hotel industry now. Our room was was clean and comfortable and even had a teapot! The only down-side was a weak shower - it would benefit from a pump! The pool and sauna are lovely and the changing rooms equipped with towels etc. The food in the restaurant and bar was fine but would benefit from a changing menu for residents on extended stays. Overall we had a lovely stay there and would return there.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting paultons park. Lovely hotel, very clean and well maintained. Would recommend it. The restaurant served a very high standard of food at a reasonable price. I really don't have a bad thing to say about this hotel. Keep doing what your doing!!

« Loved Sitting Outside On The Terrace on a Warm Summer's Evening »

We stayed in Room 2 for two nights as a couple on 5-7 August while attending a local cycling event. High points were the lovely Georgian building, the location five minutes' walk up the hill from Lyndhurst, sitting outside on the terrace on a warm summer's evening overlooking the forest and the fantastic eight inch mattresses and deep, soft pillows. Another plus was the proximity of several good eating places (eg Waterloo Arms, La Pergola) within walking distance, so you don't have to drive anywhere if you fancy a change from the in-house restaurant The Glass House. [The A337 (Romsey) road leading up to the hotel is always busy as it's one of the few main roads into the New Forest]. There were several inter-generational families staying there on our weekend ? children, parents and grandchildren of all ages ? but it wasn't unduly crowded or noisy. The room was clean and airy. The only minor niggle was that the service was well-intentioned (staff very polite and enthusiastic), but somewhat lacking. The early morning alarm call ordered didn't arrive, the newspaper ordered wasn't delivered and a cup of coffee ordered at the bar wasn't served. Half an hour later, there were no staff around, so had to queue up at reception behind two people checking out to find out where it was. (They had forgotten about it). None of these was a major problem, but maybe indicates they could do with a few extra staff. The secure cycle storage promised was a locked laundry room, but with people in and out all day, we were a bit nervous that it wouldn't be totally secure ? no problems there at all though. All in all, very good ? only marking it down very slightly because of the service.

« A wonderful Week at Forest Lodge »

We have just returned from a week's stay at the Best Western Forest Lodge. The rooms were clean, large enough for us and our three kids. The staff were helpful with any request we had. The pool was ;lovely. Breakfast was cooked to order with buffet consisting of cereal, fruit and pastries. Overall, I would say that this hotel was better than some 4 star hotels I have stayed at. Just a tip for anyone staying here, don't waste your money at the White Rabbit across the road. Go to the Waterloo Arm which is around the corner, similar prices but worlds apart in quality.

    5
    « Very nice hotel »

We spent two days and had dinner in the restaurant. The food was very good and the young team running the restaurant appeared to very experienced beyond their years. The hotel seems to be a little understaffed but the quiet nature if the place rests well with the slow pace if the clientele. We did have a problem with our room not being fully made up on the second day. We did report this but no response yet from them as promised. We will visit again as it was a nice place

    3
    « Family break »

Stayed at the Forest Lodge for three nights at the beginning of August 2016. The hotel is clean and pleasant and in a wonderful location very close to Lyndhurst and with wild horses over the road! We stayed with our young children (2 and 3 years old). The reception staff were not very chatty and didn't volunteer any places to eat or visit unless we quizzed them. The pub next door The Waterloo Arms they did recommend and we found it was excellent and very child friendly. We found our family room good if a little cramped - a four poster bed with metal bunk beds for our two children. The room was spotless and cleaned everyday. Our main grip was the lack of amenities for children. There wasn't even a toy box or any books. There were many families staying the same time as us and we spoke to a few who had also booked as the hotel was close to Paultons Park (and Peppa Pig World) who had young children. A few toys and a small play room would have gone a long way! We did make use of the indoor swimming pool with our children which was very good.

    3
    « Average Hotel »

The hotel was OK, not very spacious for 4 of us and the bath/shower water never went down the plug hole. The kids loved the swimming pool! The staff were helpful at check in but not as talkative at check out - never asked how our stay was or anything! Nicely cooked fresh Breakfast was good and good service at breakfast.

    4
    « Great weekend break »

Great place to stay for New Forest and surrounding places like Lyndhurst, Lymington, Christchurch and Bournemouth. All staff were very friendly, polite and professional. Good variety of food and drink.

    2
« Not the best stay.... »

Stayed end of June 2016. The hotel needs to think about other guests when they host weddings. The wedding guests took over the hotel and there was no room for other guests. The only saving grace was the Glasshouse Restaurant, but having said this the service in there was appalling slow and they had run out things like ketchup and ice cream! Can't someone pop to the local shop?? Oh and prosecco...due to the wedding. The room was dirty and had not been hoovered for days. Sorry but we wont be back.

    4
    « Another pleasant stay »

This is the second time we have spent a weekend away at the Forest Lodge. We like it because of it's location in the tranquil New Forest, the only down side being the traffic that queues to get in and through Lyndhurst, but the hotel can hardly be held responsible for that! There's plenty to do in the New Forest and surrounding areas and this makes the perfect base to explore from. The staff are very warm and friendly and made sure all our needs were met at check in. The rooms are ok, the place is a bit creeky and noise travels easily, but that's because it's an old building, but it has all the comforts you need in a hotel room - en suite, comfy bed, adequate tea making facilities, plenty towels, TV etc. The breakfast is plentiful and there's lots to choose from. We didn't have dinner here this time but have eaten in the Glasshouse before and the meal was great, well presented, fresh and flavoursome. We had afternoon tea on the terrace instead this time which was very nice, although a bit pricey for what it was. The swimming pool is very pleasant too, big enough for a decent swim and to accommodate a few people before becoming too crowded. The sauna is small but does the job, just lacking a steam room, but you can't have everything. The only criticism is that the lounge/bar areas lack any visual comfort or character - they could do with a bit more decorative attraction to make them more pleasant places to spend time in. All in all another pleasant stay and we will certainly come back again for a third time.

« Good Value for Money »

I stayed here with my family and found the room, while small, was clean and tidy. The receptionist was very helpful and told us where to eat in the evening as we had a young child. The swimming pool was good, but it would have been nice to have some toys for the children to play with. The breakfast was good and my husband enjoyed his cooked breakfast. We stayed here as it was close to Paulton's Park and would stay there again.

    4
« Very good value altogether »

The food and service in the restaurant is very good indeed, highly recommended. the hotel is very child and dog-friendly (though there is no child-specific provision). The swimming pool is a reasonable size, provided with towels and clean. The rooms are clean but small - our family room was just about ample, no more, but the double rooms were cramped. However, I had to ask for new pillows as mine stank of sweaty heads; and extra glasses and towel. Breakfast is good and, as with dinner, attentively served. As with most mid-range chain hotels though, the reception could do with further training in customer service and welcome. I was particularly pleased to see a well-staffed hotel after coming from a similar in Bristol which ran with just three staff, leading to inevitable frustrations and delays.

    3
    « Early summer break »

Adequate is the most positive word I can use. The hotel decor was dated and grubby. The room was equipt with the basics but dirty- mirror, shower, bathroom. Hot unventilated and stuffy room. Didn't eat at hotel but didn't notice many other residents eating there either! Good local pubs nearby.

  • 3
« Best Western Forest Lodge, Lyndhurst »

or the price paid, the room was small, oppressive and stuffy. The 'four posts' of the bed were just obstacles within the size of room (both of us collided with the posts during the nights), particularly as the room also contained the un-made bunk beds (although we had accepted a 'family room' as the hotel was full otherwise). The mattress was worn out and far too soft. The room was not cleaned on the Sunday (eg bins still full and no sign of a hoover over the floor or powder removed from bathroom floor). Other staff friendly and did all they could to make stay pleasant. Room far too small for a £200 tag as a 'family room',

    4
    « Good traditional Hotel »

Friendly staff, nice rooms, even nicer public areas, great breakfast cooked to order and a short stroll into village centre. Nice pub 2 mins walk away. This is a really nice independent hotel in a peaceful location looking forward to returning

    3
« Not really worth the money »

Stayed at this Hotel to celebrate our friends 20th wedding anniversary and for the price of our room for one night including breakfast I was very disappointed. The room was very cramped and not very clean - I may be nit picking but I don't expect the skirting boards to be thick with dust and I definitely expected the bed to be made properly. The bar was very poorly stocked and draft beer was very sparse even though we had planned months in advance and they bar staff weren't particularly 'people' friendly.....come to think of it, nor were most of the staff except a couple of young ladies who were a bit more helpful. To be honest, the place looked like it needed a good clean all over too as in the breakfast room, there is a cobweb the size of a small country hanging between two curtain poles!!! The breakfast was pretty small and not the best either and had it not been for the polite waitress, I'd have probably sent it back....well actually I did, because it wasn't what I ordered. What's really concerning is that with just some effort and attention to detail, along with some staff training, it would be a nice place to stay. I've stayed in Premier Inns that would knock spots off the Forest Lodge at half the price......not something I'd want to be hearing if it was my hotel.

    3
    « Attended a Wedding here »

Our room had a very nice view and all that we needed. The cleaning was ok but the bathroom window had cobwebs and he bath and the toilet were not cleaned on our second morning. We ate in the bar and the food was very nice. We attended the hotel for a wedding. They did a fabulous job from the ceremony to the the end of the wedding. The catering and the breakfast were very nice. The hotel is in a very nice position and we would stay again. There is no lift in the hotel, which for us would have ben a benefit.

    5
« Great location, lovely stay! »

We've stayed at the Forest Lodge before and have had mixed experiences but on our most recent trip the hotel has really exceeded themselves! There seems to be an obvious change in management and staff development as attention to all the little requests we had, were dealt with efficiently and with perfect response. We had breakfast both days which was fresh, tasty and offered a good variety to for the family. The staff were knowledgable without being intrusive and were great with the kids. Rooms were clean and well catered for but with so much to do in the local area we spent most of our time enjoying the New Forest and Lyndhurst. Great service and staff, and perfect for a short family break close to loads of things to do and Peppa Pig World for the kids (and the adults!!). Family room was perfectly sized for 4 people.

    « Business lunch superb »

I arranged to meet a customer coming up from Devon in the New Forest and they recommended The Forest Lodge. Aside from a stunning location, we dined felt like we received a private dining experience even though we were in the open restaurant. The staff were courteous and kept their distance at the right moments but we're really attentive at just the right times. Our starter was light and allowed us to enjoy the hearty main but we passed on pudding enjoying strong black coffee. Great setting, extremely satisfying food and attentive staff. Will be back.

    5
    « Excellent food »

We have eaten just the tastiest roast ever - these guys know how to make a good meal amazing, and are so hospitable. This is a super base for holidaying in the New Forest and the children absolutely love days out nearby exploring the woods. Having a pool in the hotel really helps on wet days.

    4
    « Pleasantly surprised »

I booked this hotel through the peppa pig world short breaks site. I wasn't really expecting much if I'm honest but I take it all back. I loved the place. It was so quiet. I didn't realise so many people were staying there until I saw them all in the breakfast room! I booked a twin room for myself and my 4 year old daughter. Couldn't have been happier to have room 4 which was a family room. My daughter was over the moon that she could choose from 3 beds (single or one of the bunk beds). And enough biscuits for 4 people ;) Room was spotless, spacious and felt very 4 star rather than 3 star. We had the pool to ourselves. But just as well as I'm not sure the changing room would have accommodated more than us. However plenty of fresh towels. Pool was slightly chilly though and a shame there was no staggered entrance for the kids to walk in and splash about on, instead of just metal steps to the shallow end (too deep for a toddler). The food was fantastic but slightly pricey. I paid £18.50 for an 8oz rump and a 2 course meal for my 4 year old was £9.99 (she eats like a sparrow, so it was a bit gutting!). So if you're a family on a budget you may want to eat elsewhere. The only real downside was the time it took to check in. My check in was very quick but the 3 people in front took ages and I was stood waiting for about 20 minutes with a tired and hungry toddler at 5.45pm. Could have done with another pair of hands or a quicker check in process. There is no outdoor play area for kids here.

    3
    « Breakfast was awful »

I am not a big fan of the pre cooked breakfasts but just overall this was very poor. Ran out of things on the buffet both days we stayed and yet despite having at least three staff on they did not look, see and replenish. People including but not only ourselves had to ask for drinks and then they took nearly ten minutes. Fried eggs were made fresh the first but nit the second but again ten minutes to get an egg cooked. Plates well please ignore the sign about being careful the plates are hot because they would have been warmer if they had come straight from the dishwasher. The cereals were not labelled for nut allergy and all the bran, muesli types included nuts from what I could see. Very very disappointing. The room was OK although the plumbing was so noisy. You could hear rooms either side when they used their bathrooms and the one we had screeched for three minutes after the toilet refilled. Would not return

    5
    « Recent breakfast »

Have used Forest Lodge for friends a couple of times as I live locally. Both times they've let me have breakfast with them for a reasonable price, both times I've really enjoyed it! Their rooms have always been lovely and spacious, would recommend to anyone visiting Lyndhurst!

  • 3
    « Satisfactory »

We've stayed here quite a few times and the only way we can describe it is; "It isn't as good as it used to be". The food in the restaurant was lovely - despite waiting quite a while to order - so would say service was poor; but staff were friendly and checked if everything was OK. We had two rooms - for 4 of us - one was considerably larger than the other, (One double room and one family room, (for 4 people)). Rooms were VERY warm - had to have the fan on all night. Breakfast was OK- self service. We are considering staying somewhere else on our next visit to New Forest.

    3
    « Excellent location. »

Whilst the location is great and the food very good there was something missing from our 3 night stay. There was a couple of staffing issues (number & quality) on our first two nights thought there were two new staff started on the last night of our stay one of which was a young lady called April, who has a very pleasant disposition and switched on to her duties imeadiately, so things looking up there. The Bedroom we were allocated was perfectly functional but lacked in warmth which I think would be a fair statement about the hotel as a whole. This is the third of the four new forest hotels we have stayed at.

    4
    « Pleasant hotel & staff »

Positive: clean room, good breakfast food, quiet, restful. Swimming pool. Negative; mould in female shower in the pool, porridge took ages to cook for breakfast, black decor gloomy. Hotel served our needs for a restful few days, walking in the New Forest, relaxing.

« Wonderful Anniversary stay in the New Forest »

We stayed for our 5th Wedding Anniversary with our small dog and to visit the Beaulieu Motor Show We have been to the area 3 years in a row and have found it difficult to find nice places to stay that take dogs.  We have now found the perfect place and would highly recommend this hotel. The location is excellent, just on the outside of the village so nice and quiet.  Great pub The Waterloo only a stones throw away and the pubs, shops and cafes of Lyndhurst High St only a 5 minute stroll away. Great pool, good size and open til 10pm.   Staff lovely friendly and helpful.  Room a bit on the small side but fine for us and the doggy we like it cosy.  Very clean with teas and coffees etc and lovely comfy four poster bed.  Our room 26 looked over the car park but still quiet and leafy and pleasant to look out on. Big jar of doggie biscuits to help ourselves to in the Foyer much appreciated by the Pooch. Breakfast everything you could want both hot and cold and this morning they even made me an omelette that wasn't on the list. To top it all they didn't charge us for the two glasses of quality champagne my husband ordered delivered to our room on our Anniversary morning!  When we settled the bill they said they were complimentary!   We couldn't find a single fault with our experience and will definitely be back.

    3
    « Reasonable value »

On plus side the location and parking are good, as is the breakfast. On negative side staff at reception fail to smile, rooms are small and shower was unpredictable. But not expensive and clean. Over all fair value and a good location. Good base for exploring area.

    5
    « Excellent! »

Good parking on site, friendly/helpful staff, nice room, good food including veggie options, nice pool, towels included, kids liked the bunk bed, enjoyed my veggie sausages and pastries at breakfast (separately!), lots of nice restaurants nearby.

« A basic hotel, but only 7 miles from Peppa Pig World !! »

We stayed here as a package from Paultins park...Peppa Pig World. We were a party of 5 and booked 2 rooms...and asked for them to be near each other as we were one family. We has a room for 3 and another one for 2.. They were at opposite ends of the hotel. One was in the old part of the hotel.. And beware the floors are merga creaky ( especially when you have a light sleeping baby) also with these rooms you get no robes and no bottles of water. The other room had a double bed and bunk beds...we has 2 robes and 2 bottles of water. We had breakfast included, you can help yourself to cereal and fruit and toast. Then you can order a cooked breakfast.. This was mega small ( the normal charge was £8!! For I rasher of bacon, 1 sausage, egg ,beans and mushrooms. I thought it was the kiddie breakfast we had ordered. The waitress was unfriendly .

    « Amazing Food »

We stayed on a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal booked directly with the hotel. The rate included a 3 course dinner each night and breakfast which was great value for money. All the staff at the hotel were really friendly and efficient. The food was of a superb quality from an imaginative menu and generous portions at both dinner and breakfast. The food was served at relaxed pace which we really enjoyed...as it demonstrates the skill and care taken to prepare each dish to order. Our Keeper room was fairly basic and the shower was a bit naff, we were also a little confused that no tea spoons were provided with the tea and coffee making facilities but reception provided these upon request! The hotel is conveniently located on the outskirts of Lyndhurst a great base for exploring the beautiful New Forest. We would definitely book with New Forest Hotels again but probably upgrade our choice of room.

    « Staffing problems! »

We arrived before check in at 2pm & we were able to leave our bag with the receptionist so we could enjoy a walk into Lyndhurst. On our return at 2pm to check in there was a notice saying the pool was closed for maintenance. We were quite disappointed but the receptionist informed us that it wouldn't be too much longer & she would call us when it was open. We were shown to our room & on route I noted that none of the communal areas had been cleaned & unfortunately on entering our room it certainly didn't come up to standard ( I do run a guest house myself so I'm extra fussy ) I voiced my concern to the receptionist who sent the housekeeper to rectify this. After a bad start the rest of our stay was fine, we thoroughly enjoyed the pool & sauna which we had to ourselves. Dinner that night was lovely & the restaurant staff were very good. The bed was very comfortable, great shower & lots of choices for breakfast. All in all it was a nice break for us but first impressions do count & making sure the communal areas are keep clean no matter if you are short staffed.

Recent two night stay was lovely in a picturesque part of New Forest.Room was comfortable, good sized comfy bed, food for breakfast was good but slow service due to lack of staff. Plenty to do in area and great pubs to sample beers and food. Would recommend a stay here.

« Forest Lodge Hotel, Lyndhurst »

A conveniently located hotel for Lyndhurst in pleasant area. Rooms were adequate size and well equipped with a good sized swimming pool. Food at breakfast and dinner was good. We went on a return stay voucher which gave very good value and the staff went out of their way to be helpful and obliging. Overall good and dog friendly.

« Very over rated hotel »

The location is good but definitely not one of the better Best Westerns. The room was adequate with comfortable bed, but was very hot in May, so what would it be like when it was really hot outside in summer? Only small window opens & no air coming in. The toilet chain was poor, took ages to refill, also shower pressure very low. Had a drink at the bar, the barmaid disappeared twice for 2 mins and 5, why not give her a phone if she needs to contact anyone so she can stay behind bar & serve, took 9 mins to get a drink & not busy! We were shown to a table at breakfast and then waited over 20 mins for them to take an order, and then only after we someone over, others who came in after were served before. Had poached eggs on toast, which was tiny & shriveled up, very poor. Would not stay here again, and before the manager tells me I should have complained whilst there, I did at reception but she just shrugged and said sorry.

    « Great location »

We stayed here for 2 nights on a DBB basis. We had a BOGOF return voucher as we had previously stayed at another hotel in their group. For the price we paid it was very good, but it would have been very expensive if we had paid full rack rate. Our standard "Agister" room was a reasonable size and pleasant enough. The included dinners were good, however there were limited choices and service was quite slow especially on our first night. Breakfast was freshly cooked. The location is great, being right in the New Forest and an easy walk to Lyndhurst town centre. Walk on for a few minutes more and you arrive at Boltons Bench where you'll be surrounded by the local horses and donkeys.

the hotel is 4 stars. Breakfast is very good but service is slow. Rooms are refurbished but not particularly clean. In addition, there is no mini-bar in the room. Two bottles of water are complimentary, but they are not replaced when finished... Overall, a good B&B costs half this hotel.

« Trip to the New Forest »

Arrived on Sunday 22 May 2016 for a 2 night stay to have a look around the New Forest. Checking in went smoothly, the receptionist was extremely helpful, Our room was lovely (room 15), quite roomy with a well stocked hospitability tray, plenty of space to store everything, We booked a table for an evening meal, the food was nice but it was quite slow (40 minute wait from when we ordered, to when it arrived) . Slept extremely well, the bed was so comfy, although was surprised to hear the sound of traffic early, considering how far the hotel is set back from the road. Breakfast was good both mornings & it was nice that they actually provide a vegetarian breakfast, usually my husband just has to ask for the non-meat items. Would definitely recommend this hotel, its an ideal location for getting around the New Forest

    « Don't forget the Gluten/Dairy free people »

Although the restaurant tried to help, there were no items mentioned on the menu being gluten free. Many people these days experience the problem. They should not have to keep asking each time they want to eat. At breakfast there was dairy free milk, but when we asked about dairy free spread for toast they thought we had come from another planet. A lot more thought needs to go into peoples eating problems in todays world.

    « Good »

Attentive staff, family room felt very cramped. A bit tired looking. Booked through Red Letter days, who have good deals. A very good location., close to pubs and town. A good choice of breakfast, and I also noticed that they can provide you with a selection of breakfast food to takeaway if you have to leave early. ( good)

« Nice hotel in good location »

Very nice location for walking into Lyndhurst. Several pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Swimming pool was nice and we had it to ourselves. Breakfast at the hotel very good. The staff were very personable. Although the hotel was mostly clean, it is starting to look a bit tired.

    « Disappointing »

Our room was dark and the dingy net curtain had a large hole. The carpet did not appear to have been vacuumed as there were biscuit crumbs around the floor and part of a soap wrapper. The bed was awful, and so was the bathroom. On the good side, the staff could not have been more helpful and the food, both evening and morning was excellent

« Quiet hotel in great location »

Relaxing, quiet hotel, close but away from the busy high street, with good access to the New Forest and with a lovely old pub, The Waterloo Arms, just along the road. Lovely pool & a sauna too...great in lower season when you can have it all to yourself! Excellent experience at dinner when our vegetarian, 'no mushrooms', and nut allergy dietary requirements were remembered and noted in the book for the rest of our stay after the first night. Definitely recommend this hotel for a great long weekend away in the area!

« Good Hotel in excellent Position »

This is a nice hotel in an excellent position, the food was lovely and service with a smile. The restaurant is nice and the prices reasonable, although there is a couple of pubs nearby if not eating in hotel, Room clean and tidy but needed new net curtains. Plan to go back again

Great location , within the new forest area of Lyndhurst. 5 minutes walk from the town center. Good sized rooms, very friendly staff. Great food. High speed internet. Nice place to be with family and enjoy nature.

« Lovely New Forest Hotel »

Stayed here for 2 nights to attend our friend's daughters wedding. Helped by perfect weather, we really enjoyed the Hotel. A good swimming pool and sauna lurks up and down a few staircases. The Breakfasts had plenty of choice and mix and match your own favourites was not a problem. We obviously had a Wedding Breakfast so I can't comment on their restaurant but I can say the food we had was exceptional. There is no lift here but they do offer to carry your bags upstairs. The free car park allows you to easily walk into Lyndhurst, a 10 minute stroll away. You can see the New Forest ponies and great views of the Forest whist sitting with a libation on the outside decking. All in all agreat central place to explore all this area has to offer.

« Lovely quiet hotel in lyndhurst »

Very helpful friendly staff, lovely location on outskirts of lyndhurst. Swimming pool first rate, warm and good size. Quiet location but only 2 min walk to village centre. We ate in the restaurant on the three nights we spent here and the food was excellent. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel, good parking, easy access to the New Forest trails »

Swimming pool first rate. Full size, clean, good. Breakfast was good, served downstairs, good choice. Staff were helpful. Free car parking and plenty of car parking spaces. Just up the road was a pub good for food. Short walk into town for bars and restaurants and bike hire. large, comfy beds, quiet as hotel is nicely away from the road.

    « Great hotel »

Beautiful clean room, swimming pool was lovely. Couldn't do enough for us. The chef even came out and offered to cook us something that wasn't on the menu as my husband is a fussy git lol. Would recommend this hotel. Great value for money Alison and mark Kent

    « A relaxing week »

Excellent staff & facilities. restaurant menu changes slowly over the week so meals are on the menu for 2 or 3 nights. Swimming pool is one of the better ones that we have seen. the location in the middle of the New forest couldn't be bettered

    « A lovely weekend break »

We stayed here for two nights while we visited a couple of local attractions (sky diving for me and Peppa Pig World for my daughter). The hotel was ideally located for both activities. Our room was well appointed and suited us perfect. My daughter loved the pool, and as we were the only guests who appeared to use it, it felt like it was our very own. We ate in the bar on the first evening and the restaurant on the second evening. On both occasions the food was really excellent. Breakfast was also very good and the staff were very attentive. I would also like to make special mention of Michelle, the evening receptionist, who was particularly lovely to my young daughter.

    « Good short stay »

We stayed stayed two nights, and had a good room - the bed was comfortable and the room spacious with a clean bathroom where everything worked. We ate in the restaurant and although it was a short menu to choose from, the food was better than expected. Well cooked and presented, and using lots local ingredients. Lyndhurst can be a bottleneck if you are driving, but you can walk from the hotel into the forest for some lovely walks.

    « 3 stars as promised. »

We have one of the family rooms after the doorway to the pool. It was fairly quiet since it was towards the end of the building. The rooms were clean and functional. Bathroom was a little small, dark and utilitarian. The hotel is in a good location. You can take a walk into town without driving. Another reviewer did mention the hotel is on a busy road. You can get bumper to bumper traffic at peak. The first night we ate in the banquet hall. Food was mediocre. We chose from a somewhat limited menu. The second night we thought we should book ourselves in the accredited restaurant. We were actually presented the same menu! That was apparently the only menu coming from the same kitchen regardless where you eat! Although service was good, food was disappointing. You can have a cooked breakfast but everything had already been pre-cooked. Double fried pancakes are hard. We also asked for banana pancakes but were given pancakes with bananas on the side! There was a choice of coffee or tea. We asked for cappuccino but it really is the same coffee and the poor attempt of topping it up with some foamy milk. All 3 mornings were the same. The pool area and water was warm. The areas of the pool and water was clean. We were there during Easter and the hotel had an Easter egg hunt for the kiddos and they loved it! The manager of the hotel was a nice polite gentleman. All in all, we had a pleasant experience if you're not too fuss about food or actually go without the food option.

« Afternoon tea was lovley »

We went to the forrest lodge just for afternoon tea. It had very nice sandwiches and cakes however the scones were a little bit dry. A nice lunch room with comfy furniture. Staff were helpful and left us in peace to enjoy our time.

    « a disappointing holiday »

We stayed here for three nights. Our room was adequate in size but dated. Neither bath nor basin plugs worked properly. The toilet seat and shaver point were broken and the net curtains fell down. However the beds were comfortable. One day the room was not serviced fully. We were given a very limited and repetitive dinner menu. Pork belly was inedible and gammon steak was so overcooked as to resemble leather. Cannelloni turned out to be a rolled piece of salmon with no hint of pasta. We sat down for dinner at 7.30 as agreed. The first course was served at 8pm, the second course at 8.30 and the desert at 9.00 precisely every night. Breakfast service was haphazard and the food disappointing and far short of a good standard. The swimming pool is very nice. The location for Lyndhurst town and the nearby forest is excellent. The staff were willing to please but seemed to lack any organisation or management.

    « Night away - Red Letter »

We got given a Red Letter night away and chose this hotel as it wasn't overly far from home. Upon arriving the reception staff member was friendly and pointed us in the right direction to our room. The hotel looked nice and clean from first impressions. We entered our room (28) and can only describe it as tiny and our views changed!!! It didn't have the best view out the window but only one stay I wasn't that bothered. However there was mould on the ceiling of the bathroom in more than one place and on the walls (at the bottom corner). The valance on the bed was dirty with numerous stains. I hate to think when it was last changed. There was paint peeling off the radiator and rust showing. Also the noise from anyone walking by the room sounded like a herd of elephants and with everyone walking pass to get to their rooms or the pool I feared that we would get no sleep. At this point I decided to speak to reception and I found the lady there very understanding. I explained the situation and she immediately apologised and offered to show me a different room so that we could change. The room (34) she showed me was like walking in to a completely different hotel. the new room was clean and fresh with no mould which is always a bonus!! There were only 3 further rooms down the corridor which meant not a lot of foot traffic to disturb our sleep. There were minor issues with this room but it was liveable. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work, the toilet moved every time you sat on it. Again there was paint peeling off radiator but no where near as bad as the first room. The furniture looked tired as did the room. The bed was very hard and the pillows flat. However the nights sleep wasn't too bad. Breakfast the next morning, again the staff were cheerful and attentive. We both ordered the cooked breakfast. It arrived relatively quickly but was so disappointed. There was one very pale looking sausage, one bit a of bacon, tiniest pot of baked beans, half a tomato and a few mushrooms. You got to choose how you had your egg cooked. I chose fried and found that my whole plate was swimming in grease. I went to move the egg only to find it stuck to my plate. The toast was bought to the table well before the breakfasts so was cold by the time the breakfasts arrived. The butter was so hard you couldn't spread it. There was no way this breakfast was worth the money and I wish we had gone somewhere else. You do have the chance of the very dried up looking grapefruit and yoghurt, tined fruit etc on the buffet but even still not worth the money. The whole hotel is looking very tired and needs some desperate tlc. This is not a hotel I would recommend and I don't think we will be using the extra night free voucher we got given when we checked out. It's such a shame as we can not fault the staff who we met. They are let down by the state of the hotel.

« Great rooms and lovely food too »

We keep going back to the Forest Lodge after trying a number of other hotels in the area, as the rooms are just right and the meals are very good too. We have paid a lot more for shabby rooms and poor food, as Lyndhurst is a continual magnet for tourists to the New Forest and some hotels seem to rely on that fact to provide inadequate service. Not here though. Highly recommended.

    « birthday stay »

I love this hotel, we have been 3 times before, it is quiet, lovely rooms and a pool too, the service was exceptional, staff always make you feel welcome, loved our room, bright clean and airy with views of the gardens. There is a fantastic pub two minutes walk away which is a local pub, but welcoming and friendly...

    « Superb Location »

Great weekend break. Friendly staff, good food, nice room, check out time on the Sunday was an agreeable 11.00 am. We did the 10 mile Lyndurst Parish Walk which was great fun, fortunately the Forest Lodge was conveniently located at the end of the route so it was straight to the bar for some well earned refreshment! To sum up the Forest Lodge made for a "Perfect New Forest Weekend"

    « Great location »

The hotel is situated in a great location for the New Forest and Lyndhurst. The hotel has an indoor pool and sauna, which we didn't use. The staff were very friendly. The only downside was the so called award winning restaurant. The menu was very plain and nothing like on the website. I had the pork and unfortunately it was cooked rare. Although I did point it out at the end when the plates were cleared, at no time were we checked during the meal. We would definitely go back there, though probably not eat in the restaurant.

    « Surprisingly good! »

The family and dog made a last minute booking here for a 2 night stay. It was a very good dinner, bed and breakfast deal which I took a little apprehensively but we were very agreeably surprised. The rooms aren't 5 star but clean and comfortable, the location is fabulous. The pool was a massive hit with the family, the staff were all great and very helpful with the needs of our dog. The food was excellent on the first night and above average on the second. We will stay again.

« Lovely setting, attractive hotel. »

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were adequate for a 3 star hotel with everything we needed. They were quite small, and the noise insulation from the next room was not good. The food was excellent, for both breakfast and dinner. The dining rooms and lounges were spacious and very comfortable. The terrace would have been useful if the weather was warmer. The swimming pool was excellent with showers in the pool area and changing rooms. Staff were helpful for disabled family member. We'd definitely go for a break there again.

« Great location, staff and accommodation »

This hotel has all you need for a great family break. Fab location close to the town and also many major attractions. With its indoor pool you even have things to do if it happens to rain. Staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, some of the most accommodating staff I have ever come across. Great family rooms and facilties

    « Not bad »

The hotel looks lovely from the outside and was built in the 1820s, so has some character. It's well located being about 10 minutes walk from Lyndhurst town centre. I think I would have liked this place better if they hadn't tried to charge us £20 to put an extra bed in the room for our son staying with us, when this was what we'd booked via booking.com. When we explained, the hotel said that it was a known problem with booking.com and that we'd be upgraded for free. Fair enough, only when we arrived it was a double room with an extra bed added to it, which was exactly what we'd booked in the first place. Breakfast was pretty good. It was £8 for adults and £4 for children. It's part buffet, and part cooked. The buffet comprises cereal and juice, whilst tea/coffee, toast and a fried breakfast or pancakes is ordered separately. This makes it possible to fit more tables in the breakfast rooms, but they were still well spaced out. We had 1 evening meal there. I thought this was good value, and the chef had made a real effort. They gave us an amuse bouche prior to the starters to fill any perceived delay that you might have otherwise felt. Service good have been slightly improved. They were friendly but the waitress dropped a napkin on 1 plate at 1 point and overall it felt like it needed a bit more work. The restaurant was in a different location than the breakfast room, and was open to non-residents. Need to book ahead, on popular nights. There is a pub about 2 mins away - Waterloo arms - which has good reviews on Tripadvisor but I felt it's menu was limited. Nice place to have a drink, however. We also used the swimming pool, which was nice. The wall of the end has wallpaper of a forest scene and the overall effect of the pool makes it feel exclusive. Didn't find the sauna, however. The bedroom was ok. It was spacious enough and the furniture was made of dark wood. Perhaps more effort could have been made with the bathroom and the tv was a no-brand small tv, with cabling covered by plastic channels rather than chased in to the walls. For the price that we were paying, I think they could have spent a bit more on the rooms. Room was quite warm when we arrived, but the radiator had a thermostat on it, so could be controlled ok. The hotel had a bar, and also a drawing room. Overall I think 4/5 is justified. It's a nice hotel but for the price, things could be slightly improved.

« Excellent hospitality and service »

Having read some of the reviews it is always difficult to determine whether the hotel is as people say. On this occasion from the moment we booked and then arrived our stay was made most welcome Service - Receptionist and manager were very helpful throughout. Sophie in particular ensured we had a fridge in our room, cot and a bath to ensure our stay with our one year old was made as stress free as possible Food - We only dined at breakfast through our own choice. The breakfast was an excellent selection of continental and a cooked breakfast Room - Although always a little small when you have a little baby, the room felt rather luxurious I would not hesitate to stay here again

    « Desperately short-staffed »

I booked 2 nights at this hotel to celebrate my birthday with my wife. The location is very good: outside Lyndhurst, but within easy walking distance. Our room was good; very clean, and the bathroom was spotless. A nice touch was bathrobes in which to go to the pool. But. The hotel appears to be run on a shoestring, particularly with respect to the staffing. All the staff were friendly and efficient, but rushed off their feet. We could not find anyone to ask for some information at 4 pm - a group of people were waiting to check-in and the lone receptionist was trying to deal with each in turn. We were served in the bar later only because a member of staff happened to walk through whilst we were waiting. No-one was available to take another order for the next half-hour. Despite the fact that only 9 diners were in the Glasshouse restaurant, the service was also somewhat slow, and the waiter had to be reminded to place our bread on the table. This was apparently due to his being distracted by having to do everything alone. The food in the restaurant was extremely good - my lamb was simply the best I've ever tasted. We had booked the "Three-course meal for £20" by booking before arriving. But it takes the shine off to find that "three courses" does not include side dishes, and supplements are payable for some dishes. We won't be taking up that deal again. Overall, we enjoyed our holiday because we made few demands on the hotel; the room was good and the breakfast was full. But we left with a feeling of disappointment that it could have been so much better, and that it probably wasn't worth the money charged.

« Not BEST western at all »

No beer or larger on tap for 2 days. Stood at the bar waiting for staff for 5 mins at a time, as only one member of staff doing food, reception, and Bar. No steak 2 days in a row. Breakfast is tiny Staff are very good but just not enough staff to cope. Shower didn't work correctly. Its like this place is closing down !!! Room was nice but noisy floorboards. (very noisy floorboards) This place is just not quite right.... I feel a secret shopper is required urgently here... The food that is available is very well done, but the restaurant is empty! clearly everyone eats out .....

    « Afternoon Tea »

Unfortunately we were disappointed. We were in a lovely room, but seemed to had been forgotten, by the waitress. Another couple had to go and ask for more tea for us all. The sandwiches were very cumbersome, & not that good. Scones were uncooked in the centre. The plate of cakes all looked the same. We had to ask about the Prosecco, the waitress replied "You should have mentioned it when you booked in! " Such a shame we expected a lovely treat but felt let down. I feel upset for my daughters who had booked it for my Birthday treat.

Just come back from here . Was a bit worried after reading reviews about decor .. But we couldn't see what they were on about our room was lovely the hotel was lovely .. « Great place in an amazing location! »

I stayed at the Forest Lodge hotel earlier this month for some training with my organization. The place is really nice, charming and the location can't be beat. Walking distance to the center of Lyndhurst and right in the New Forest. The room was great and comfortable with all the amenities and the staff very nice. We had several meals there as well and they were all very good. I would definitely stay there agin. I imagine it gets busier later on in the spring and summer.

« valentines treat for my wife »

I wanted to take my wife for a treat on Valentines day saw this hotel and decided to book for 2 days 14/15/feb 2016 they were offering a third night free and I accepted this at a cost of £332 Half board this being £110 apprx per night was not bad for a 3 star hotel based on 2 nights however at £166 per night it was expensive. Looking on trip Advisor at travellers photos alarm bells started to ring look for yourself and see why. On arrival however the hotel looked well decorated recently and I saw no problems at all my room was average and very clean. It became clear that the hotel was badly short of staff no lift and at 75 years of age I did not expect to carry my luggage up to the first floor when I asked for a porter the young lady at reception offered to carry them up for me I would not allow her to carry the suitcase and took it up myself. It soon was clear that the same lady was expected to do everything I went to the bar to buy a bottle of wine rang the bell for service and she came running from reception to serve me this type of thing repeatedly happened due to a lack of staff and jokingly we soon called it faulty towers The biggest regret was the 2 evening meals the slowest I have ever been served and the food was very badly cooked and was obviously poor quality meat . The first night they were offering 3 different steaks but had none at all in stock other items were also not on the menu this on valentines day. After the second day I could take no more complained to the assistant manager and told him I did not want the third day even for free and checked out He knew the hotel had problems and when told I was putting my experience on trip advisor he asked to not do that until I was contacted by Chris Garrett the general manager. I was disgusted by his reply that he would like to show me what they really can do and offered a 1 nights stay. In view of the fact he could have tried to stop me checking out a day early and make things right while I was still there instead of giving me a 250 mile round journey for 1 night you would have thought he would offer at least the 3 nights I booked. I considered this offer as poking fun at me and asked instead for a half refund in cash he thought this unreasonable and we left it there as bad friends so a valentines treat for my wife was ruined

« Average Hotel but Great Location »

The hotel is in a great location for visiting Lyndhurst, the New Forest and the surrounding area. The staff were very friendly and while the room was clean, the whole place felt a little old and worn. We stayed two nights and on both were kept up until 1:30 am by noisy guests.

    « Disappointed with room »

Visited with friends for a weekend and booked a Crown room the best room type available, we were in room 20. The room was incredibly small! Two friends stayed on another Crown room (room 18) and in comparison was massive compared, they had a bigger bathroom and also had a sofa, this room was nice and was what I would have expected for a Crown room. Other friends booked an Agister room (2 lesser room types down), I preferred their room, was bigger than my Crown, had a bigger bed and bigger bathroom and was very nice, (room 25). Mr Crown room was a box compared to my friends room and I paid the same as friends in the Crown and booked around the same time. Assistant Manager could not swap rooms as hotel was full but offered a family room which we did not take. She could not authorise any compensation due to her status level. Room was nice but not worth the extra for a Crown room in my opinion, I was disappointed with those. But, hotel itself is really nice, staff are brilliant especially the assistant manager in the restaurant. Cellar Bar downstairs is lovely but not open, surprised as hotel full! Serves Banks Ale now which is a good addition to what they had on last visit and better option. This hotel is well worth a stay, excellent two for one deals every now and then and ideal location in Lyndhurst, can't praise enough really enjoyed the stay, do go! My only observation about the hotel is that it is too hot most of the time, had to open the window in my room and rads already turned off! My only problem was room 20, will not pay the extra again unless they guarantee a bigger room and one you would expect for the extra money. Thanks however for a good stay.

« A few extra touches and this would have been 5 stars »

Stayed here for my birthday on a 2 for 1 deal which was excellent value. Room was small and in some need of tlc but it was clean and warm. Staff were really friendly and helpful but sadly in short supply. We waited ages to order our evening meal on the Friday night and had to send starters back as they were cold. We never got offered bread and my husband's mixed grill arrived with no chips -we never did get them! Staff were doing about 5 jobs each bless them. Saturday's evening meal was much better as the hotel wasn't as full as the previous night so our food was cooked well and was all served together. We liked the fact we could choose from either the bar or restaurant menu. Good breakfast and location of hotel is ideal for walking into Lyndhurst and surrounding areas. Pool was of a decent size too.

« Very very disappointed and angry »

Booked the most expensive room (Crown room 20) as a treat for my wife to find it was smaller than the Agister two rooms lesser, not only was it smaller, the bathroom was smaller and the bed was smaller. It was a four poster but chop the frame off and it was a much lesser bed. Friends in room 25 had a lovely room Agister, other friends in room 20 had a huge Crown with bigger room, a sofa and a bigger bathroom, (same price as ours, but much much nicer - room 18. I was gutted really hacked off and totally disappointed as I felt robbed and cheated. The hotel was full so no swap available. As the hotel was full I expected the lovely caller bar to be open, but no it was closed. They have some half decent ale hear now (not like the last time) and the food is great. Please visit this hotel, it's nice but don't upgrade like me and get ripped off. Not happy!

    « Weekend Stay »

Forest Lodge is a great place to stay. It is minutes from the centre of Lyndhurst and the New Forest, and very near the coast so a good all round location to be in. A stroll through the town provides lots of shops of al types with many eating places and a couple of pubs and hotels to have some refreshment. The food is excellent and, with swimming pool and sauna it makes for a great start or end to the day.

    « Baby Shower Success! »

Saturday 23rd of January, Forest Lodge held a baby shower for one of my closest friends and I must say it was absolutely perfect. The staff were incredibly professional and it was a good day all round. The room they picked for us to host was absolutely beautiful. 'The Glasshouse' I've worked in the hotel chain before and I must say it gets better and better! Big thank you all round. X

    « Fabulous Baby Shower »

Over 20 ladies spent a wonderful afternoon at this hotel in The Glasshouse Room, from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them, throughout the whole afternoon they made sure we were well looked after, we all had afternoon tea which was very well presented, we overran a little so we had the option of going down stairs into the cellar bar where they happily served us more tea and told us there was no hurry to vacate and should we have required anything further to ring the bell and they'd attend to us. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as the service etc was brilliant, thank you to all the staff that dealt with us this afternoon, it was very much appreciated.

    « Very enjoyable weekend »

We stayed with our young grandaughter. The staff make this hotel an enjoyable experience. Any problems were dealt with promptly and efficiently without making us feel that we were complaining 'old codgers'. Food was very acceptable and having the swimming pool was a boon as it was cold and damp when we visited. Some areas could do with a spruce up but couldn't fault the friendly staff and their commitment to making our stay a good one. Will return

Have stayed here a number of times as they do a great bed, breakfast and dinner offer quite often. Staff are extremely friendly and are always looking for ways to help. Food is very tasty. Plenty of nice walks in the local area.

« Thoroughly lovely stay that I highly recommend »

I am still in the hotel, but so impressed that I felt I needed to leave a review straight away. Staying in a family room with our dog too + so far our stay has been perfect and I don't envisage that changing. Every single member of staff we've encountered has been delightful. The bed was so big and comfortable (I would go so far to say much more than my own at home) that we all over slept and barely made breakfast and that includes my teenage son who is normally up with the lark! Even so (& after much apologising from us), the staff were not in the least ruffled and we had a thoroughly enjoyable breakfast which catered for gluten free, vegetarian & vegan diets (that was a first, as I usually have to have dairy milk or nothing, so was more than impressed). It's the little touches for the dogs that make it all the more special too, such as the water bowl outside & big jar of dog treats in reception, our dog is in his element feeling so special. For the non-dog guests, don't worry as they aren't allowed in the restaurant or pool area, but are in the bar area for those of you with dogs wondering how you can eat and be with your dog at the same time (food available in restaurant and bar areas and can be brought from one to other). For those of you like me that are New Forest pony fans, you can see the wild ponies just in the field opposite to the hotel, so no need to stay in the lower New Forest villages. Enjoy your perfect stay here, we are.

« January break with our dog »

We had a fantastic two nights for the price of one, Dinner bed and breakfast in a ground floor accessible room with our dog. The room location was perfect next to the exit and although not that large the room had space for our dog's playpen/bed. The staff were very accommodating finding us a lovely walk starting right outside the hotel and printing off directions. When we got back with a very wet muddy dog, they kindly lent us a bucket and towel so we could wash her outside before going in. The pool was lovely, good temperature and sauna just right for the two of us. The three course meal was delicious with a different menu each night although the lack of choice of gluten free sweets was slightly disappointing. The portion size was just right and beautifully presented food. The breakfast menu had everything we could have wanted. Thank you very much. Would recommend to anyone looking for a dog friendly hotel and a pool.

« Very Happy New Year »

From the moment we checked in to checking out time 4 days later, I cannot fault this hotel. We stayed with friends for the hotels New Year package and it was amazing. The fabulous staff make this little hotel a relaxing, enjoyable place to stay. The food is amazing and the only hotel I have ever stayed out that really does offer a bespoke breakfast every morning! You want it, they will cook it for you. Rooms lovely, although our shower had didn't work very well but it certainly didn't spoil our stay. Lots of places to sit and chill, have a drink or chat with friends. The Cellar Bar is really cosy. Our package include a trip to Beaulieu Motor Museum which was brilliant. The house was decorated for the festive period and looked wonderful. We also took part in the Treasure Hunt which takes you on a approx. 3.5 mile walk around the New Forest area. I can't fault our stay here and we are already planning a return trip later in the year and possible all returning for New Year again. We didn't use the pool at the hotel but others in our party did. They said it was a really good size and lovely and warm. It also has areas to just sit and relax if you wish, as well as a dry steam room.

    « New Year's Package Stay »

Excellent stay for the New Years Break, room was very good and clean, the food was excellent, the staff very very helpful and we could not fault the hotel and staff in anyway. We have stayed here before but this was by far the best stay we have ever had.

« nice break during christmas holidays »

only stayed for one night to break up christmas period, had a family room, good location, pool was a bonus, rooms clean etc. would recommend for a short break. If i had to criticise anything it would be the shower in the pool area needed updating, looking old and tired, but the pool itself was great.

« Excellent New Year break »

Cannot fault this hotel. The staff were amazing, many thanks to Chris Garrett and his staff for a wonderful New Year break. The food, rooms and the hotel itself were far better than we were expecting. There were loads of places to sit in comfort and enjoy a coffee or a drink. The staff went above and beyond to make sure all went as it should. We were so impressed that we have already booked up for next year, we travelled as a group of eight and all were really pleased with everything. Cannot wait to go back and Chris I will get the bottle correct next time.

« Great New Year break. »

Just returned from a great 3 night New Year package at the New Forest Lodge. The food throughout our stay was absolutely fabulous and the DJ on the New Year's Eve was brilliant. The hotel put on a quiz, treasure hunt and bingo on the other days which was good fun although a bit disorganised at times. The surrounding countryside is lovely though the weather during our stay was terrible so we couldn't take advantage of that. It is just a 5 minute walk to Lyndhurst, a pretty little village and there is a lovely pub, The Waterloo Arms, a 2 minute walk away. The staff were very friendly and courteous though we did feel that they were a bit inexperienced in the restaurant. All-in-all we felt that the package was good value for money. The only thing I would complain about are the pillows - they are terribly lumpy!

« An excellent value for money experience »

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times. The two for one deals or other deals offered are excellent value for money. The hotels are friendly with well trained and helpful staff. The food is good and the rooms are largely very comfortable. A 5 star hotel it isn't, a friendly, accommodating, immaculately clean and warm hotel it is. We hope to stay there many more times.

« Another Happy Christmas at Forest Lodge »

We have just returned home after a four day stay over Christmas. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculate and spacious and the public rooms were warm and welcoming, nicely decorated for the festive season. The meals we had were delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. We found the portion sizes at meal times just right, particularly in view of the fact that there was complementary mulled wine, tea and coffee, mince pies, chocolates and nuts constantly on offer in the bar and sitting room.

    « Christmas Break »

Booked a couple of days away over the Christmas break 27-29th, arrived Sunday afternoon and checked in ( after waiting for receptionist to deal with 2 lots of customers in front of us, not even acknowledged our presence whilst we waited or apologised for the wait! ) When the receptionist checked us in she asked us to check the rate, I said that my confirmation email had the 2 days @ £238.00, to which she replied but that's not with breakfast which was £8.00 each per day! So eventually got to our room a double room but for some reason had a camp bed made up in it! We asked for this to be removed as was in the way of wardrobe and window. Upon first inspection of hotel we were not impressed, so went out to explore the village. We went to several nice pubs and hotels, checking there room rates along the way. All the rates where cheaper so we were a bit disappointed, we got back to the hotel and had a drink in the lounge and got talking to a couple staying there. We were trying to decide on whether to eat there as the menu we had seen was not very extensive. They said the food was nice and should eat there. So we did, the food was ok but not the greatest hotel food I've eaten. The next morning we came down for breakfast, and ordered the full forest breakfast. When they brought them out it looked lost on the plate, one piece of bacon, sausage, half a tomato, one mushroom & a spoonful of beans! (I would recommend they either make the breakfast slightly bigger or the plates smaller) The next evening after we'd been out during the day we decided to use the pool seeing as we were paying for the privilege. But upon our first try there was a lot of children, so we went back to the bar and had a soft drink and waited for the kids to leave and go for dinner. We went back to the pool an hour later, and it was empty but the floor around the pool was quite dirty so people must have had shoes on in there. That evening we went out for dinner so we could taste some other food. Next morning we came down for breakfast and ordered our tea, toast and breakfast, the tea came but no milk so we asked the waitress for some milk, which they brought in what looked like a tea pot with out the lid. But the top was quite stained and we didn't want to use it, so asked the restaurant manager for a replacement which he brought back. We then went to stir our tea in the pot to find one of the bags was broken. So not a good start to our day. Again our breakfast came looking lost on the big plate. We went to finish our packing to check out of the hotel, Going back down to reception which was unmanned, so pressed the bell and waited for someone to come. The receptionist came and we asked for the bill, which we checked through, only to find some drinks and water which came to £20.00 on our bill. We had not had these and not signed for them! (So someone got them free!) The receptionist removed them from our bill and asked if we enjoyed our stay... To which we said, that we thought the hotel was overpriced for the area as we had checked the others in area and they were the most expensive. In our opinion we would have paid around £80-85 a night for this hotel and not the £135 with breakfast. Having the pool in our opinion is not worth the extra we paid as full of screaming kids, or for the quality of food..

    « Great location »

We booked a three night stay here with friends in the October half term. A lovely location, a stone's throw away from a lovely pub (White Rabbit) where we ate on 2 nights and the beautiful New Forest which we enjoyed. Lyndhurst itself is a pretty village with lots of quaint shops and tea rooms. Check in was uneventful and we made our way to our room. This was quite dark and basic and the en-suite lacked any radiator or heated towel rail so not only was it a cold room to be in but towels felt damp each day. Had we visited in the depths of winter this would have proved to be a real problem. We weren't particularly impressed that although our bed was made by housekeeping each day they towels weren't neatly folded back on the towel rail (as we would expect). The hotel decided that whilst we were there they would have some of the paintwork in the corridor outside our rooms repainted so we had a couple of days of the strong smell of gloss paint and there were handwritten signs along the corridor warning us of wet paint though we were never quite sure what had been painted and what had not! Not sure repainting when you have a hotel full of guests is a great idea!! Be wary of having a room on the corridor leading to the pool and sauna as you will be disturbed early morning and late evening with guests and young children to and from the pool. Having said this we enjoyed the breakfasts - freshly cooked to order each day (though if you are here on business and in a rush you will need to allow plenty of time to wait for breakfast as it certainly isn't fast). The staff in the dining room were all very polite and attentive. Staff on the reception desk were pretty miserable and rarely spoke (although the young manager was always very friendly and helpful). We used the bar once but after ringing bell several times for service and waiting a while with other disgruntled guests we felt we made the right decision in using the local pub most of the time. On our final day we decided to check out the cellar bar ... a lovely comfy area to chill out. Slightly concerning to see that all the empty bottles, crisp packets and plates left by guests mid afternoon were STILL on the tables when we went down in the evening! My husband ended up clearing space for us to sit and as there are no bar staff serving downstairs in the cellar - you do have to traipse upstairs to the other 'slow' bar to order drinks. So, we did enjoy a lovely weekend in the New Forest - partly because of the location and the company and this hotel is ok but we just got the feeling that the manager and the kitchen staff are doing all the hard work to keep the guests happy whilst the others seem not to care. It is in a beautiful setting and is a good base for days out. But the manager needs some support in getting this place up to scratch!

    « Awful nights stay »

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the last few years. My last stay was the worst by far. Inexperienced are staff, terrible evening meal and shockingly bad breakfast. On requesting to speak to the manager we were told they were busy and to go and find them later in the evening. I will no longer stay at this hotel when in Lyndhurst.

    « Pleasant »

I stayed here from 15 December for 3 nights in a four poster room, paying just under £400 for a dinner bed and breakfast deal, apparently 3 nights for the price of two. Friendly reception staff for check in and check out, very helpful and professional waiter for dinner 15/12 and breakfast the following morning. Lady working on the bar evening of 16/12 most put out when I requested 2 coffees at 10 pm. Appreciate it was the week before Christmas so it was very quiet but various wines out of stock meant the staff spent a lot of time saying sorry! Room ok, bathroom could do with a revamp, a few permanent marks on the loo seat, but a seriously powerful shower and water always hot. Good location for walking into Lyndhurst and general New Forest walks.

    « Great hotel »

When working at Southampton I always try to stay here. The staff are always welcoming and professional. This occasion Craig from behind the bar even took the trouble to help me sort out my new phone. Rooms are nicely decorated with large comfey beds, just what is wanted after a long day. Will definitely stay here again.

    « Excellent hotel »

Very welcoming and attentive staff. The location within the New Forest is excellent as a basis for walking routes. The complimentary indoor pool and sauna are perfect features that makes staying in the hotel very joyful. the 2 for 1 deal includes diners with choice of food and even alternatives for reasonable prices. Nice place to stay.

« Hotel Five Star, Food & Drink One Star »

Apologies for my longest ever review, but this was a strange one. Annual family do with 3 couples booking a meal and overnight stay to avoid driving home, So the good news was the hotel itself was amazing. If you're visiting the New Forest the location is great, you can walk in to Lyndhurst and everything you'd want to see in the area is within easy driving reach. Lovely looking building with ample free parking. Easy check in, the room was huge, for an overnight stay I'd have had no complaints if it was half the size. Great range of complimentary toiletries, and definitely the biggest selection of make your own tea/coffees in any room I've ever stayed in, along with hair dryer, iron and board, dressing gown and slippers, tv and clock radio and a very clean bathroom with decent shower. Combined with a very comfortable bed and no noise from corridor or other rooms I couldn't ask for more. Nice touch, my phone automatically logged onto the FREE WiFi, and there was also a swimming pool and sauna we could have used had we known about it beforehand. The 6 of us all arrived separately and met up in a lovely side room, with a real flame fire and tasteful Xmas decorations. All in all the hotel and room deserves a Five Star review. Then the bad news. Not the best start when we found the bar with 4 draught lagers, several more bottled ones and a choice of one, yes ONE bitter. To make matters worse if you're only offering one bitter and/or ale Bank's is not the one to have. Note to hotel, the Ringwood Brewery which offers a huge choice is based only 20 minutes drive away. On to the meal, Bland starters, the soup definitely needing salt added but alas no salt and pepper on the tables, these suddenly arrived after the first course had been cleared. Next the main course. Those that had the Xmas dinner said it was the smallest they'd had anytime anywhere, with more white plate showing than food. I along with 2 others had the braised beef. This arrived with a small dollop of mashed potato and something red all pushed to one side with half the plate empty. Assumed there would be some vegetables coming to fill the space on the plate but eventually realised we were being over-optimistic and got on with it. Ironically - because my previous review complimented a chinese take away on their beef NOT being chewy - this was so soft it was the same consistency as the mash, it was almost a meat mousse (if such a thing is possible) No texture to the meal at all,, everything on the plate was soft and not much flavour either, all 3 agreed the horse radish sauce was the best part of it. None of us could identify the small approx 3mm (yes 3mm no exaggeration here) cube balanced on the centre of each piece of beef, smoked bacon and mushrooms were listed on the menu but missing from the plate so presumably it was one of those. Desserts all received an "Ok-ish but needed to be bigger" comment, I had cheeseboard which was pretty good except 3 cheeses and 4 crackers brings out the OCD in me. Coffee followed, nice enough, would have been nicer if spoons were provided to stir it, had to ask for them, along with the ultimate insult of a mince pie which was tasty enough but could not have been more than inch in diameter. It was almost as though the chef was taking the **** by serving as little as possible to comply with the menu To be fair we were given a second plate but only after we had asked, and they took so long by the time they arrived the coffees were long gone. You can get away with minimalist servings when a meal is full of flavour, but not when it's as bland as this was. Breakfast next morning was a similar experience, buffet section was help yourself but the cooked full english again showed more white plate than food - maybe smaller plates are the way to go? On this experience I'd give the food a One star, so coupled with the 5 for the hotel itself to be an overall 3 out of 5 mark The receptionist assured us that this was a one off Xmas mention catering for large groups and not their usual restaurant menu. That is probably the case but it would make me reluctant to put it to the test.. if I wanted to stay overnight in the New Forest I'd book this hotel again, but I'd eat and drink in the Waterloo Arms, just a minutes walk from the hotel (as we found when we decided forego the Xmas party/dj once the meal was over and went in search of a proper pint on Saturday

« New Forest dog friendly break »

We stayed for a couple of days in November, very close to Lyndhurst with numerous pubs and restaurants , we have been to quite a few Best Western hotels because they are dog friendly, the room was nice although the creaky floorboards outside was quite noticable ( rm 22 ) because we had the dog our breakfast was served in the bar area as had been in previous Best Westerns, the tea and toast was forgotten on the first day and only turned up after the breakfast had finished despite reminding the waiters a couple of times, on the second day the table had not been set up and the staff really should know who will require this facility, Despite these small hiccups we enjoyed our stay and have been treated better in other BW hotels

    « Good Hotel, But ....... »

Had a Christmas Lunch & stayed at this Hotel as part of a group of people. The room was presented very well & an excellent shower. Bar & food service staff were a bit inexperienced but were very friendly & were quick to correct mistakes. Lunch & breakfast was good, drinks a bit pricey. The Hotel puts an automatic "New Forest Trust Donation" of £1.00 on the bill. This low value followed by a larger payment several days later caused my bank to stop me using further transactions on my credit card as they thought something suspicious was going on. It took me a lot of time & inconvenience before I managed to use my credit card again. In future I will request that this donation be taken off during check in & I will make my own arrangements for making donations. I would recommend this Hotel.

« I stayed at the hotel as part of an organised Christmas event with work. »

Staff were great and always sought to make sure that we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Event going out to buy more Champagne as we'd drunk all of their supplies. The facilities were alright and I would certainly return if in the area.

« Friendly hotel in the New Forest »

Stayed here for a couple of days and it was lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The Restaurant, which is open to the public, was good and the food very tasty. Restaurant staff, as all the hotel's staff, were lovely. Would definitely go back for a winter break. Had their Christmas dekkies up, rather lovely, especially with the fire in the lounge with all the little stockings hanging up.

« Brilliant hotel. Lyndhurst is a fab place »

My sisters and mumma checked into Forest Lodge this weekend. We had a family room. Brilliant, big and spacious and they put a fridge in there for us! 34. Lovely hot shower, great tea and coffee making facilities and the bottled still and sparkling water are a bonus. Breakfast was lovely as were the staff and nothing was too much trouble...an extra pillow for me on Friday night at about 11pm. They booked taxis for us to and from town as mumma struggles a little bit with mobility. Lyndhurst its self is great. The lodge is quiet but so close to town. We tried the swimming pool on saturday which was great. It was a shame the sauna wasn't working. They would benefit from having a hottub. Overall a great place to stay and thoroughly recommended.

    « Super stay »

We have stayed at Forest Lodge in the past and have always enjoyed our stay because the location is ideal, the food is good, the rooms are comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. This year was even better as the food was outstanding! We will certainly be returning in the very near future. Thanks to all the staff especially the chef. Long may it continue!

    « Brilliant »

We stayed for 3 nights and were so impressed by the attitude of all the staff - so helpful friendly and efficient. The quality of the food was exceptional - we've stayed in many hotels but the food here was certainly one of the best. The style, quality and presentation was brilliant. Note to management - keep hold of your chef !! We will certainly use this hotel again when visiting this part of the UK.

    « Very disappointing! »

We stayed here a few years ago and had a really good experience so decided to stay again. Sadly, things have changed and not for the better. We had chosen this hotel because it had a swimming pool and sauna. The sauna was out of order. Ok these things happen but added to this was very slow and muddled service for both breakfasts and evening meals. We were left waiting for ages to be seated. The food was good most of the time but the steaks wanted were not available on both evenings. The final straw, however was the final bill! They charged us for two glasses of wine we hadn't had and for a more expensive bottle of wine than the one we had consumed. Good job we checked the bill as they would have charged us nearly twenty pounds extra. The only member of staff that seemed to know what she was doing, and who sorted things out on a couple of occasions, was the lady on reception in the mornings.

    « Very disappointed! »

Booked through the Peppa Pig website so had little options to select different types of deals. Unfortunately our 2 year old was vomitting the day of the visit and when we contacted Peppa reservations they kindly spoke to the hotel about switching to another day or refunding which Peppa were happy to do if the hotel agreed. The hotel wouldn't be flexible at all and would rather have a 2 year old vomitting in their rooms than allow a change of date. I'm sure they could even sell the room again given all others showing sold out on the website. Little one will now have to miss out as paying over £300 to go again is far too steep. Greedy corporations showing no compassion

    « Family and friends function - 24th October 2015 »

We hosted a special event for over 100 guests in the Forest Room and the hotel "did us proud" for a 3 course sit-down meal. Chris Garrett, general manager, ensured everything went exactly as we had planned. Food was delicious, with excellent service by pleasant and attentive waitresses backed up by the unseen staff in the kitchen. We and several of our guests stayed overnight and, although the rooms are not huge, they are perfectly adequate and we enjoyed a peaceful night in clean and comfortable surroundings. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a similar function.

    « nice stay »

stayed here for one night only didn't use facilities so can not comment reception was easy and polite. room (17) was very nice and comfortable with a 4 post bed, bath and shower, tea, coffee facilities and pull down bunk beds for the kid. I've never come across this before, but there was a table in the corridor with ample help yourself extra tea, coffee, milk, shampoo etc, what a great idea. The only down I have is the noise of a fan whether it was next doors bathroom extractor fan or something in a cupboard but it annoyed me all night. I could of phoned reception and would of if I was there for more than 1 night but decided I could make do. On a plus I would stay here again, and would recommend to a friend. Hotel is nicely situated with an old pub a stones throw away and the village high street a 5 min walk away with a plethora of restaurants to suit any tastes.

    « Disappointing »

The experience you have seems to depend on what room you are allocated. The breakfast is the normal hotel buffet style but whereas Best Western Hotels normally put out croissants and Danish pastries, Forest Lodge doesn't. The evening meal menu is limited and expensive. Room 30 is very small with one small double wardrobe, a small double bed with two small shelves next to the bed instead of bedside tables. The room has a kettle and tea bags but there were no biscuits provided in the room until the last day. The room was quite grubby, with bits that were on the carpet when we arrived still there when we left. The stairs were also grubby. As with most hotels, Forest Lodge centres around functions and on our 3 night stay there were functions on 2 nights with the music thumping until midnight on both nights. This along with the very creaky corridor floor outside the room makes a quiet stay impossible. The wifi was very slow with Ookla showing download at 5 Mbps and upload at 0.5 Mbps. Avoid room 30. The best things about the hotel is its location in the middle of the New Forest and only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Lyndhurst which has many restaurants. The hotel staff were friendly and willing to please.

« Very enjoyable three night stay »

Our family took a short break in the New Forest during half term, taking advantage of a very good dinner, bed & breakfast deal. As the hotel is part of the Best Western chain, our expectations were perhaps lower than with some other hotels, however, we were very pleased to be proved wrong. The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful (especially a waiter call Alex who bent over backwards to make sure our restaurant experience was the best it could be) and our room (a Verderer room) was very well furnished, comfortable and most importantly quiet (we are very used in other hotels to being woken up at 6am by cleaners, other residents etc but this did not happen at all). The hotel is situated within walking distance from Lyndhurst high street and despite being near a main road, is very quiet. Overall a delightful stay and excellent value.

« Fantastic, friendly, family hotel »

We booked a three night stay and couldn't be more delighted with our choice of hotels. The food, staff and ambience of the hotel was just what we wanted. Alex a member of the team was fantastic, made both mine, my children's and my mums stay extra special with his advice, welcoming smile at dinner and breakfast and his ease at meeting my children's individual needs over food choices (made the meals so much more relaxing) nothing was too much. Highly recommend this hotel and first hotel children loved the menu choices (please thank the chief) which were fantastic 3 course menus. Would advise to put children's menu on website as parents wound definitely book if they saw the choices available X 5 stars to the hotel and 10 to Alex.

« Mini break to Paulton Park »

We have just returned from a two day break staying at the Forest Lodge. The accommodation was very good and the food was delicious - both breakfast and dinner. But best of all - the hotel staff, all were very helpful, polite and professional. We had a three and four year old in our party and our waiter bend over backwards to make their stay enjoyable - he was an asset to the team. Thank you from a happy grandma!

« Good Value and Good Hotel »

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Forest Lodge. We stayed here a few years ago and will definitely return. The room was fine, nothing exceptional but adequate. The TVs definitely need updating though. Ours was Freeview but it didn't even show a list of the programmes only channels and with 99 possible numbers we gave up. There should be a list of numbers with the corresponding channel in the hotel information guide. Also the hotel doesn't take the Telegraph tokens which are fairly common these days and I bet their newsagent does. There was also a fairly longish wait to be seated in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. However, these are fairly small issues. The food, especially dinner, was excellent. It was imaginative, well cooked and tasted great. Only small issue was maybe to put the Jus in a sauce boat rather than on the food so we can choose how much we want. The burger was lovely and the chips great. All the food was piping hot and nicely presented. One of my desserts, the Hob Nob, was a work of art, probably by Jackson Pollack! The other major asset of the hotel is the staff. They were all very nice and helpful. The were friendly and did all they could to make our stay enjoyable. We will definitely go back.

    « Not very exciting »

We were in a 'keepers' room. It was enroute to the swimming pool which people used very early am passing across the very sqeeky floorboards - say no more. Room somewhat tired, but comfortable. Ate out in Lyndhurst after first dinner as menu somewhat uninteresting. Advantages - short walk into Lyndhurst and walks directly into the forest. Should we return we would pay for a better room

    « Good quality hotel. »

Moved from another hotel and I have to say had the best nights sleep. Really good hotel nice breakfast had the four poster room. Bed very comfy asked for foam pillows - got them, breakfast delivered to room - brilliant. Very clean, good location as you walk into the town. All in all highly recommend.

« Not really up to standard. »

We were a group of 15 booked in for a reunion over 2 nights, Sunday and Monday. Check in was from 2.00pm, but when we arrived at 3.45, the room was still being made up. Although generally comfortable, it was not spotlessly clean. Corners, tops of the tiles, distinctly "fluffy". On the first night, our party had a separate dining room which worked well. On the second night, a Monday, we were in the main dining room. Service was slow, and less than attentive, considering the amount we were contributing over 2 nights. 1 waiter only seemed interested in setting up tables for breakfast whilst we waited over an hour between courses, with no-one to take drink orders or to pour wine. In the bar for pre-dinner drinks, we were informed that the hotel was out of Sauvignon Blanc, and no Worcester Sauce could be found anywhere. At 10.30 on the first evening the staff told us that they were closing the bar as they needed to go to bed, and under no circumstances were we to touch the bar as it would set the alarms off....!!! All in all, there were a few items which need attention, especially house-keeping and service. Food was good. Location also very good for touring the New Forest.

    « Not 1st choice ... However »

We were given this hotel as the one we booked was closing for refurbishment. So this wasn't our first choice. The swimming pool was refreshing and a bonus. The sauna was out of order unfortunately. Our room was above the restaurant but didn't really hear anything. However, we heard the world & his wife walk past our room constantly. Very noisy. Beautiful room with everything you need. I would recommend you bring your own hairdryer. The one in our room took an age to use (I have short hair too) It's very central to places which is a bonus. But beware it is just off a main road. If you want peace & quiet -which we did. Then this probably isn't your best choice. Staff were very polite through your our 2 night break. Breakfast was in my opinion average. Which was disappointing when you consider the cost of the room

We will have no hesitaion to return to Forest Lodge when next the 'call' of the New Forest is the topic of conversation, 'where shall we go to escape the pressures of life'. It is our first choice in the South.

« Two great nights in New Forest »

Just returned from 2 nights one with dinner, lovely hotel great position for exploring New Forest. Dinner on the first night very good attentive service. Room very clean and well appointed ( the room was really for the disabled which we are not but if you are disabled you would have been very pleased the way the bathroom had been made disabled friendly) this did not spoil our stay as had quite a laugh have the couple we were traveling with. Breakfast selection very good and again staff always very keen to please .

    « Dinner & Lunch »

My wife and I were recommended to eat at the Glasshouse restaurant. We were greeted by a waiter called Alex who looked after our every need. For starters we had a ham hock terrine and seared squid, both of which were superb. However, the best was yet to come. We both had a tasting of lamb five ways which was a sight to behold. The portions were generous and imaginative and were an adventure in flavours. Sadly we were too full to have a dessert. The prices were unbelievably good value. Having had such a great experience for dinner we went back in the next day for a light lunch or so we thought. We ordered a steak sandwich and club sandwich which we decided to share. The sandwiches were enormous and accompanied by vegetable crisps. We left the hotel unable to eat anything else. We will definitely rerun for dinner or lunch or maybe both.

« Great Four Night Stay »

Although we have tried other Hotels in the New Forest we keep coming back here for our walking holidays. The location is great for leaving the car and walking into the new Forest. Lyndhurst centre is just a short stroll away. The Hotel is Dog friendly with Dog towels and dog biscuits by the reception. We always go for a deal which includes the evening meal as we have found the food to be excellent. You can get very good offers including free nights. The one thing that we like about the Hotel is the friendliness of the staff. Chris the General Manager goes out of his way to be helpful and leads by example.

    « Convenient Location »

Stopped overnight at the end of September on our way through The Forest. The staff were extremely helpful; our rooms were very comfortable. The restaurant was good and dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. We would be very happy to stay again.

    « Exceptional staff. »

We stayed here 26thSept. From the minute my partner and I walked into reception with our dog, nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff. There was a function on in the main room the first night of our stay so we where advised not to eat in the bar because it would be very busy and as we had our dog with us we couldn't eat in the restaurant, but where asked if we would like to eat in the cellar bar, thinking this would be a dark damp room we found it was totally the opposite. Large settees well lit and nice decor. Our meals and drinks where bought down to us by the staff. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order served on a special table laid up in the bar area so we could have our dog with us. All staff from reception to waiting and bar staff went out of there way to make this a very enjoyable stay. The hotel is set a 5 minute walk from Lyndhurst High St in the New forest ideal for walks with or without dogs. Next time we'll make use of the pool.

First impression were very good, however the hotel rooms and corridors need a really good cleaning. The carpets had bits all over them thoughout the hotel and the cleanliness of the toilet in the bedroom was desirable. The evening bar menu was not great and quite expensive for a snack. Breakfast was good but I won't be staying here againa
