« Nice Place on the big lake »

Remodeled rooms the exterior was being worked on while we were there over 2016 Thanksgiving, the morning breakfast was good, almost all rooms face the lake, beach to walk, waves to listen to while laying in a comfy bed. We left our car in the lot and walk to shopping and dining all three days, enough to do in town. friendly staff,

    « Delightfully Surprised »

Grand Marais is a delightful destination. I was looking for a quaint cabin to stay in but not finding one, I reluctantly booked the Best Western, a brand which I have never stayed in before. Usually I go out of my way to find a Hampton Inn when we're on road trips. I was pleasantly surprised. The room was recently updated, clean, roomy, reasonably priced with an excellent location. I could not have been more pleased. The service was friendly, breakfast substantial and the room provided an excellent weekend. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

    « Very satisfied »

Very clean room with a lakeside balcony. Also a very complete breakfast. The check-in was very smooth and easy and the view from my room was Fabulous. Anything that a person needs is within walking distance. This includes the Co-op, Dining, and watering hole.

« Wonderful hotel. Highly recommend. »

We were very impressed with the hotel. Our room was wonderful. Spacious, artfully decorated, with a fireplace, balcony, and hot tub in room. And, the view was gorgeous. The hotel also had a beach. Nice!!!

    « Love the view! »

Great place to stay in Grand Marais! Almost every room has a balcony...don't get one without. Pet friendly, good breakfast, walk to any place in town, listen to the waves....just kick back and enjoy. We're hoping the extensive construction won't drive the prices up. We've been staying at this hotel for years.

« This Hotel Did Not Meet Our Expectations »

I'm not quite sure why this hotel has such a good Tripadvisor rating. In our opinion there was little about it that was "plus" or "superior." First of all, it was hard to see, sort of tucked behind a gas station. The parking was limited, even early in the day. Our room was not ready when we arrived...they said this was because they are always full, so it takes a long time to clean all of the rooms. What we thought was, "If you are always full and have trouble getting your rooms ready, then you know you have a problem and should staff your facility better!" However, we waited patiently outside since there is no lobby! There are some breakfast tables, but no lounging area... we thought this was unacceptable for a supposedly upscale hotel. When we tried back we were told that our room still wasn't ready because there was a plumbing issue, so that would take another hour to repair. We asked if we could just go leave our things in the room and were told no. So we walked around town and an hour later were finally able to check in. We were offered a discount on our room rate for our inconvenience, but this was not a great start to our night here. The room itself was terribly hot when we first arrived, but we opened the door to the balcony and it cooled pretty quickly. We couldn't believe the page of instructions in our room, talking about the risk of frozen pipes and how not to leave windows or doors open for too long, how not to put the thermostat too high, how not to run the fireplace too long...it went on and on. We had the same thoughts when we read this that we had when they told us our room wasn't ready..."If you know you have a problem, you should address it and not make it your guests' problem". Next we went to use the "business center" and found it consisted of two computers in a closet-size room which also houses the ice machine and soda machine. I'm not kidding...this was their idea of an appropriate place for guests to sit...noisy, hot, uncomfortable. Our guest room itself was spacious and comfortable, and the view was nice. It was lovely to watch the sunrise over Lake Superior, definitely the best part of our stay in this hotel. We enjoyed Grand Marais very much...it was a delightful town in a beautiful area, but we would definitely select a different hotel next time since this one was such a disappointment.

    « Love This Hotel »

We stay at this hotel every time we go to Grand Marais with our family. We love the free hot breakfast, large rooms and the prime location. We walk to dinner each night. Our teens can walk to get ice cream, go to the donut store or go shopping from here. They have coffee and tea available all day and night. After a long day of hiking it is the best place to come home to. The large hot tub is very nice too. We will come back each summer!

    « WONDERFUL, RELAXING EXPERIENCE! »

This Best Western motel has IT ALL--comfort, cleanliness, a GREAT breakfast, and a FANTASTIC view of Lake Superior! The entire staff is friendly and helpful! Whether you're getting away for a day or a few days, you will not be disappointed with this one. My husband and I return here at least every couple of years, traveling about 8 hours to get here!!

    « Contemporary decor »

Beautiful view of the bay from our balcony. Every room has a lake view, so you can't go wrong! The room had Modern, clean, upscale decor. The bed was comfortable, and I got a great night's sleep! I would encourage anyone who takes a trip in that area to visit this hotel.

« Stay in Grand Marais near Lake Superior »

We were pleased with our room at this Best Western Plus. We booked a lake view room with balcony. Although the weather was cool it was still nice to open the patio door and hear the waves. More like the sound of waves on the ocean than the sound of waves on a lake. Good breakfast selection. I'm not sure if Best Western has always been available for travelers with pets but have noticed that is the case with most that we have stayed at during the last several months. Although I like animals I don't necessarily want to sleep in a room where they have stayed also. The clerk at this BW mentioned that half of their rooms were pet friendly. I found that to be a large # of rooms dedicated to pets in a small community with little # of rooms to rent on most nights. She also indicated that when booking online it would have told you the rooms is pet friendly. Well, if you're like me sometimes those little items don't get noticed when you have limited time to find a room for the night. When we stayed at a BW in Wyoming all rooms booked online were pet free and if you needed to book a room because you had a pet you needed to call the front desk to book a pet friendly room. I believe this is a much better policy. Sleeping in a room where pets have also stayed could cause a real problem for people suffering from allergies. Although I found this property very nice and the location near the lake great I will be very careful in the future to make sure I book a pet free room.

« Best place to hear the waves »

This is a great hotel for many reasons. The hotel is quality, the people are great and Lake Superior is literally right out your window. It is "In Town" and that makes it very easy to dine and enjoy the stay without having to drive home in the dark.

    « Grand Marais' BEST »

Anyone touring The North Shores of Lake Superior need to treat themselves to a water view suite at Best Western Plus Superior Inn, Grand Marais. Beautiful, romantic room with spa & fireplace. The Lake view was breath taking. Easy access for my disabled husband. His favorite place, didnt want to leave.

    5
    « Beautiful views »

Hotel is in perfect location for walking around Grand Marais and has been remodeled and is gorgeous. Breakfast is without compare. The only downside is noise between rooms, and very hard mattresses. If you are a sound sleeper, there is likely no better place to stay!

« Lake Superior Beach Front »

2nd floor room with deck 75 feet from Lake Superior. Loved watching the moon rise and the wave patterns as well as the relaxing, soothing sound of the waves. It was a bit to cold on this October night to leave the sliding door open all night to sleep to the wonderful sound of the waves

    5
    « What a view! »

Nice hotel, kind of a quirky layout but then all the rooms face the lake. What a view, a little cool in October but we it enjoyed it for a while until we got too cold. You are literally on the shore of Lake Superior. It would be wonderful in summer. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Breakfast area is really small. Staff were super helpful and friendly. I thought it a little expensive for the type of accommodation but I would stay there again just for the view. We had a evening meal at Harbour House Grill, best meal of our road trip, chocolate cake to die for.

    « Nicely Done »

This hotel is lakeside and is in excellent shape and very well maintained. They offer coffee, tea and hot chocolate 24 hours a day in the lobby. All of the flavors of coffee are available that are available in the morning which is very unusual. Our room was a very nice sized double queen room that included space for a small seating area furnished with two easy chairs and a small table. Additionally there was a large desk in the room with a work chair and a straight back chair for two people to use the desk at once. The TV was a very nice size and was as wide as the table it sat on. There was a cabinet with a five foot granite top that held the refrigerator, microwave. There was a large closet with two luggage racks (always appreciate this). The sink vanity was in the entryway to the room and the WC and shower were in a small room opposite. The shower was a gorgeous tiled shower with a shower arm that had two shower heads you could direct as needed for a lovely shower. There was a stand up makeup mirror on the vanity for guests convenience. The bathroom had a nightlight that had a little more wattage than I'd have liked and there was a large light on the bottom of the TV set that emitted a lot of light into the room while we were sleeping. We blocked this with the bed bolster pillow. Our room had a patio that provided a nice view of the lake. With a lake view room we had no problems with additional light coming into the room from the outside. Internet was fine and the bed was wonderfully comfy with nice smooth sheets. It was also wonderfully quiet here. They offered three coffee choices - normal, bold and a spicy blend. There were also several choices of coffee syrup available. Breakfast was well maintained. They had wheat bread and even offered a cranberry bread. There were lots of special touches, even tortillas that could be filled with scrambled eggs and the tasty fried potatoes and peppers! Service was great and you can tell the hotel team prides themselves on the quality of the product they provide.

    « A Superior Stay »

This was our first stay at this property. We were very impressed. The room was very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location right on the shore of Lake Superior can't be beat. We would definitely stay here again.

« Best View in Grand Marais »

The location of this motel in Grand Marais is the best. The beach is right outside your door - have your own private balcony. Everything inside and out is clean and well maintained. Most of all, the view is spectacular - can't beat it. Restaurants and shopping within walking distance. We enjoyed wonderful meals and live entertainment. The room was clean and bedding and bed are very comfortable. Staff is pleasant and very friendly.

    « Great Motel »

Wonderful experience. Tasteful decor reflecting the culture of Lake Superior without being schlocky. Great shower and bathroom. Liked the shampoo, lotion, BeeKind brand. Very comfortable bed and pillows.

« Stay at grand Marais »

Good place to stay overall. Location is hard to beat. breakfast was good with a number of options. Staff is good and the rooms seem very clean. No complaints however the price indices it should be a good stay.. Beach front with an easy walk to down town area.

    « Nice Hotel »

Nice hotel with Beautiful views of artist point and Lake Superior from the room. Continental breakfast was nothing special but it was adequate. Worlds Best Donuts and other places to eat nearby. Would definitely stay here again.

« Excellent Lake Superior views in Grand Marais »

The best thing about this hotel are the views of Lake Superior and Artist Point. Breakfast on your private patio or balcony overlooking the lake cannot be beat. I was a little disappointed that is was located right off the highway as the marketing makes it appear more secluded. That said, the hotel is clean and quiet for it's proximity to the highway. My only criticism would be that it lacks adequate guest parking. I felt compelled to be back at the hotel early in order to secure a parking place.

    « Amazing »

This was our first stay at the Best Western in Grand Marais. We are so happy that we booked this room. The room is gorgeous and spacious. Everything is clean and the beds are comfortable. We have two cozy chairs and a table. We also have a kitchenette with a microwave, Refrigerator and sink. It is a perfect spot for a romantic getaway or a family stay. The staff is also awesome. We were greeted with a smile when we checked in today and were given excellence service. I am happily listening to the waves of Lake Superior as I fall asleep tonight.

« So convenient to everything, so quiet and nicely designed. »

Just one night here, the room was tasteful 'Up North', not campy or full of log stuff. Room was large, comfy, modern and well appointed. Room balcony and view were great. Awesome walk in shower. Loved how peaceful it was, facing away from downtown with the waves audibly lapping the shore, yet downtown pretty much out the back door. Staff was great - we forgot an item in our room, hubby called, we received it at home two days later.

    5
    « Great lakeside location »

This motel has a lovely lakeside location and beautiful decorating. Very clean and relaxing rain shower. Great coffee bar had lots of selections. We sat out on the balcony & watched falling stars over the lake. We compliment Sean for calling us to return an item that we left behind & offering to send it to our home.

    5
    « Fall Vacation »

Location on Lake Superior was excellent and walking distance to restaurants and shops. Close to border and state parks and driving tours of the area. The second and third weeks of October may produce the best color options for viewing.

« Best Western - Grand Marais, MN »

The room had very nice, clean décor. Beautiful Lake Superior view with soothing "lapping" sounds. Room very clean and comfortable - all appliances worked - had some cable disruption on TV. Breakfast offered a variety of food and it was all very good. Staff helpful and courteous. Very pleased with my stay and would go there again. Recommended.

    5
« Best Place in Grand Marais »

The hotel is moderately priced. The rooms are very pleasant and clean. It is easy to park near your room. The breakfast was fine, but not spectacular. The location is near the Lake and convenient. The staff was helpful and professional.

    4
    « Comfortable and pleasant »

I was on a hiking trip with 3 other women, and we spent 2 nights in Grand Marais. The hotel was comfortable and pleasant with a balcony looking out over Lake Superior. I even saw an otter (or beaver) swimming by one morning with a beautiful sunrise in the background. The breakfast was plentiful although I wish, as always, that motels would use real crockery and utensils. I just don't like eating or drinking from plastic. And the practice is certainly not environmentally friendly. The staff was very friendly.

    5
« Good Hotel for Quick Weekend Trip »

I booked a last minute weekend trip to Grand Marais for my family and I. We took our dog too and needed a hotel that was pet friendly. I called to see if there was availability and spoke with a woman who was incredibly helpful and friendly over the phone. There was a miscommunication and she booked a king size bed room for us when we needed a double full bed room. When I called to fix the error there was no problem, she did it immediately. We got a partial lake view with a balcony and it was great. I was worried at first that we wouldn't see the lake but we got a shoreline view which was fine. Front desk service was very friendly just like everyone else said. Our doggie even got welcome treats. The whirl pool was small but nice too. Not really used by anyone when we were there so it was a great place to relax undisturbed. My family and I also walked every where as the hotel is very close to downtown. This is a great hotel if you are looking for a quality standard stay and nothing fancy.

« Right on Lake Superior! »

We spent a weekend at this Best Western in Room 125. It was right on the lake, king bed, fireplace, corner room. The bed was comfy and there was a nice selection of pillows. The room was very clean and well stocked. BUT the room was too warm. The desk clerk said that corner rooms caught a lot of the sun and that's why they were warm. If they knew this happened, why not have the windows glazed? The windows themselves were in sad shape. Crank out - hard to open and hard to close. The desk agents were friendly and helpful. We got directions, recommendations for places to eat, hiking ideas and the like. The housekeeping staff was equally friendly. As this was a ground floor room we didn't feel comfortable leaving the windows open to cool the room and to hear the pounding of the waves. We were really looking forward to that sound. People could walk within a few feet of the windows, though. The room included breakfast. There was a nice variety of continental breakfast type items. Yogurt, bagels, boiled eggs, muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage, country potato and sausage bake to name a few. The buffet was attended to constantly and fresh food brought in as necessary. If we stay here again, it will not be on the ground floor.

    5
    « North Shore Destination »

We were very pleased with your facility. The room was clean and well equipped. The hot tub was at good temperature and relaxing. The breakfast was good and well supplied. Whenever we come back up the north shore we will certainly stay at the Best Western Superior Inn.

    4
« Our First BW Plus stay »

Hotel was very clean and check in very fast. The room was lovely and clean. We had a wonderful view of Lake Superior. Check out went fast too. Full breakfast was nice, but the eggs, potatoes and meats needed to be microwaved if you didn't eat them quickly.

    5
    « Great place »

Visited here sept 17&18th wonderful. All accommodations were excellent the bathroom was completely remodeled and as I write from the Hyatt regency in Milwaukee it is not as nice. The staff was very helpful I could not recommend it more

    2
    « Not a great room »

We stayed for one night at this hotel recently. It was not cheap. I don't mind paying if I am getting a great room, but this room was cramped. No room at the sink for toiletries, etc. and the sink is located so close to the door that the garbage can has to go in a cabinet below. We seemed to have been placed in one of the few rooms in the place that does not have a balcony and I'm guessing we paid the same price. If you do end up having to stay here definitely request the balcony. Breakfast was adequate but the potatoes were not good so your may want to stick to the eggs or cereal! On the positive side, staff was friendly!

    5
    « Relaxing and gorgeous »

I can't say enough good things. The room on the main floor (2nd floor) with the 2 person hot tub and fireplace is so worth it. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the view was stunning. I could hear the waves from bed. Worth every penny.

    5
    « Grand Marais »

We stay here every Labor Day week. We love the view of the Lake and the sunrises. All of the staff are extremely friendly and nice. Paula in the breakfast area was wonderful. Last year the food was always empty and not being replenished. This year there was always plenty of food and Paula kept the dining area clean and she was very nice. Upon checkout I left my camera and BOSE speaker in my closet. I was very impressed that whoever cleaned my room turned it in. I received an email regarding this before I even realized I had left it. It is very nice to know that there are honest people working at your hotel.

    « Nicely done. »

Wonderful location right on Lake Superior. Newly refurbished rooms are very nicely done. Great service by staff and good value. I really enjoyed opening the balcony door and listening the waves roll into shore.

    5
    « I love Grand Marais! »

Excellent location with a view of the lake right from my bed! I loved hearing the crashing waves at night. Courteous and helpful staff. Comfortable rooms. Great place to ride your mountain bicycle and walk the beach. Boulder hopping is also fun.

    5
    « Beautiful place »

We were here for 2 nights. Couldn't have been better. Right on the lake with perfect views. Room was great. Comfy bed, well appointed and a nice hot tub. Breakfast is better than most. Service was spot on. Front desk staff very good. We will stay here again.

« Great Lake Shore Experience »

This hotel rests nicely on the shore of Lake Superior. All rooms have patio and balcony facing the lake. Wonderful view and lots of bird activity along the shore. This hotel location is very close to downtown Grand Marais. Leave your car in the lot and short walk to all of downtown. There is no swimming pool but a fantastic whirlpool on the lower level. Many hotel service employees are from Europe and are great to talk with about their summer work here in America. JER

    5
    « A wonderful place to stay! »

This Best Western is the best of the best. We love the beach location, the great service, the shower, the service, and the food, including the World's Best Donuts for breakfast. There is nothing to complain about, and we are fussy!

    5
« Grand Marais Family Getaway »

Highly recommend staying at the Best Western Plus Superior Inn in Grand Marais. The staff, service and location are all excellent. The view out our balcony was breath taking every day. Loved hearing the sounds of the waves.

    5
    « Beautiful Suites »

Beautiful Hotel suites with whirlpool! Air conditioner unit a bit noisy.. not a lot of parking and spots are narrow but that seems to be the problem throughout Grand Marais, Mn! Hard to find parking for restaurants! Beach at hotel is small but really nice! They have park benches behind beach area which was nice to sit and watch the gulls from.

    5
    « North Shore »

We enjoyed the hotel very much. It was right next to the lake with beach access. It was very comfortable and relaxing, with a great view from the room. The balcony, while small, was perfect to sit and watch the evening come on.

    4
    « Beautiful lake view »

Check in was done by an efficient and friendly woman who said "you're in my favorite room!" The view from our room/balcony was beautiful! We were on 3rd floor, corner room, I think 332. The furnishings were lovely. The beds, sheets, towels were very nice. The free breakfast was great - scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes, pancakes with strawberry sauce, plus toast, bagels, yogurt, cereal, etc. The only negative is that there is no elevator that goes to this room, so have to carry your luggage up 1 1/2 flights of stairs.

    1
    « Missing item »

Disappointed with the honesty of this hotel's cleaning staff. Called immediately the day after leaving this hotel that I had left my iPad charger on the bedside night table. I was told that it was not found. It was clearly labeled with my name and address. Yes, disappointed.

    4
    « Great stay! »

My wife and I along with our dog had a wonderful stay in Grand Marais. The staff was friendly and courteous. Room was clean and had a great view of Lake Superior and Artist's Point. The location was very convenient for us for hiking, biking, kayaking, and photography.

    4
    « Overnight Stay »

In late June 2016 my wife and I stayed at this hotel. The staff was efficient and very helpful. The motel was very clean and well furnished. The views of Lake Superior out our room window was wonderful. The beach was also just outside our door. We were able to find a nice restaurant/brewery to eat at that wasn't far away. We would stay here again.

    5
    « Great stay! »

Clean, welcoming, beautiful views of Lake Superior and a fantastic staff! The room we stated in was lovely. Breakfast had great choices, even local donuts! The staff were wonderful and very knowledgeable about the area! I can't wait to stay here with my family again!

  • 4
« Just like by the ocean! »

The best thing about this hotel is that every room has a balcony facing Lake Superior. You can hear the crashing of the waves all night long! The breakfast is among the better free ones in any hotel. They serve donuts from the World's Best Donuts just down the street. But they are not as fresh as when you buy them at the donut shop. The coffee is good. My husband and I are coffee snobs! But the prices of this hotel have gone up 25% since our last visit two years ago! Maybe it has to do with the rebranding, which did not make any improvements.

    1
    « Extremely Disappointed »

Older hotel, we were put on the end of the property next with a crappy view of a scummy pond and whole foods. Whole foods air conditioner running at all times. Tiny parking lot. Tried to upgrade but no luck. Nice little town, but not much here, I wish we made it a day trip and stayed in Duluth.

    3
    « Disappointed »

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 15 years. Our stay 8/17 to 8/19/2016 was in comparison to previous stays very disappointing. The hotel remains a nice facility with a great location, but the execution left much to be desired. In addition to location, the good is the comfort of the bed and pillows and a well appointed room, and of course "World's Best Donuts". The bad included a room furthest from the lobby with no elevator access to this Beargrease section (for this issue avoid rooms 330-332), a dog smelly room, an exterior door serving this section that did not properly function during our entire stay, and an indifferent staff. We did request a different room before moving in, but were told not an option. Also, when we wanted to extend our checkout by two hours for $10 as listed in the room information binder, we were informed the owner instead now wants $25. We knew staying at this hotel was pricey before our stay so we cannot complain about that, but for the nightly rate we did expect more.

    5
    « Great View »

A wonderful staff, the room was right on the lake with a great view. We could here the waves washing up on the beach. The room was clean with 2 queen size beds that were comfortable. Easy walking distance from down town.

« Awesome place - Right on the Lake »

This was a great place to stay, it was right on Lake Superior with all the views and close to everything. Grand Marais had a lot to offer for the 2 days we were there. Had a lot of fun and would recommend it to anyone else to stay

    5
    « nice place »

Best Western Grand Marais: nice motel, though for $179 a night it better be. Hot water very hot (which is good), wifi adequate. All rooms have a lake view. Nice place, nicely kept, and they work hard to keep it that way.

    4
« Comfortable stay right on the lake »

We stayed one night on our way through Grand Marais. Had a beautiful corner room overlooking one of the few sandy beaches along this part of the Lake Superior Coast. If it had been cooler we would have loved using the gas fireplace in the room. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

    5
« Wonderful stay once again! »

We reserved a beautiful Corner Room with beautiful views and with a fireplace. Fell asleep and woke up to the sounds of the water and birds. It is always a wonderful and relaxing visit. We have stayed in other rooms and they are just as beautiful and just as nice and offer the same beautiful views and sounds with the same same ambiance at a much lower rate. You can sit down by the water walk down the beach and join in on some little fires we saw going among some people further down the beach. We Love visiting Grand Marais because it is such a relaxing little place where we enjoy the food and the people. We go at least once a year. We've met family at the airport in Thunder Bay and brought them there from Toronto. We plan on visiting again in the fall for our wedding anniversary slash my birthday. Saturday markets. We enjoy the market that comes on Saturdays enjoy looking at the Arts and Crafts from local people. Local eateries. We go to the world's best donut shop every time we visit. We went to the best donut shop in Kalamazoo and the world's best donut shop wins hands down. We go to Sydney's for pizza every time we're in town and we always get some homemade custard from Sydney's as well. We've eaten at several places in Grand Marais and enjoyed all of them those are a little favorite spots. Things to do. We've been to Devil's Kettle and other places along the way. We want to check out Betty's Pies it is always packed with cars period was recommended by a waitress at another restaurant in Ashland. There are lots of walking trails and state parks to check out. We watch people getting lessons and kayaking on the water. And I always see people walking up and down the beach as we do. Room. Our room is has always being spacious clean and comfortable no matter what room we've chosen. It is overpriced to stay in this area. This is a tourist trap kind of area. Yes we are caught in the Trap we love being there and we will always go back. Once you go you'll see why. Breakfast. The breakfast off of Pancakes some donuts from the world's best donuts made in Grand Marais. And other yummy things like scrambled eggs and sausages fruit cereal excetera.

« Superior view of Superior »

We spent a night at the Best Western in Grand Marais on a trip to Grand Portage. The hotel is located on Lake Superior, our room had a small deck with chairs facing the lake with a nice view of the lake The room was very nice with a small fridge and microwave as well as a couch and table with two chairs. The bed was very comfortable and unlike our recent stay at a Marriott the WiFi was free. The only knock I could take at this hotel was the price. We paid more to stay at this hotel in Grand Marais than we did to stay next to Niagara Falls. But if you need a nice place to stay in the area, I would recommend this hotel.

« Comfortable hotel in a gorgeous setting »

We really enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. Our room had a balcony on Lake Superior, right over the private beach, and the view and sound of crashing waves were absolutely beautiful, even on a cloudy, windy day. Our room was very comfortable, the beds were good, the bed linens were far better than at another hotel we recently stayed at, the shower was great, and the decor is attractive. Although the breakfast area is too small and crowded at times, the breakfast itself was ample and tasty. We would like to return!

    « Beautiful setting »

We greatly enjoyed our short stay here. We had a room with a balcony on Lake Superior, which we loved. The setting is gorgeous. The room itself was very attractive and comfortable, and we were disappointed to have to cut our visit short (a small emergency at home). Although the breakfast area was at times too small for the crowd, the breakfast was ample and tasty. The beds and bed linens were comfortable and definitely better quality than those we experienced the week earlier in a popular Duluth hotel. We can't compare it to other hotels in Grand Marais, as we haven't stayed in any other hotels there, but we really enjoyed our stay here.

    « overpriced quality hotel »

This is a quality hotel that is priced at 170% of comparable hotels. The offered facilities are small compared to hotels in this price range and the climate control is still the noisy room units.. The breakfest area was small and congested.

« Lake Superior at your Fingertips »

On vacation with my spouse - we experienced a Wonderful King room with whirlpool, fireplace & lounging couch + balcony right on the waterfront. Very comfortable, clean and friendly! Right at the edge of Grand Marais, walk into town for anything.

« Great place on lake Superior »

Location was perfect, right on the lake. Breakfast was very good especially the donuts. We especially appreciated the coffee bar in the lobby with ice water and coffee available all day. The town was within easy walking distance.

    « Short Trip »

We stayed one night on our way to the BWCA. Room was so clean and inviting. Every single balcony had a spectacular view of Lake Superior. With the door open the breeze came right in. Breakfast was great. Really appreciated the beverages out throughout the day. RIght in the heart of everything in Grand Marais. Would definitely book again.

    « Great Place!!! »

I went online to get a hotel for the night. I clicked on a place that was supposed to be Cobble Stone. Looked like a beautiful line of town home style of accommodations. NOPE when I called turns out it was really for the place across the street called The Shoreline. It was an awful place. No air, super small and $130 a night. It was BAD. I declined staying (thankfully I hadn't booked room) the next place I called was the Best Western. He told me to come on over we would not be disappointed. He was so right. Great staff, reasonable price, right on the lake, balcony, and free breakfast. Did I mention great staff?? Will be back for sure. Loved walking on the beach. Thanks again Best Western. Oh p.s. Loved the BeeKind products!!!

    5
    « Great Location »

Great location with a clean room. Check-in was quick and easy. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was good especially the donuts. Loved seeing Lake Superior from the balcony. The kids had fun on the beach. We did not have our dogs but it was a very dog friendly hotel. The rooms were quite. I would definitely stay here again.

    5
« Our favorite Hotel in Grand Marais, I would call it a 4 star »

Our favorite Hotel in Grand Marais, I would call it a 4 Star in my rating system. All rooms face Lake Superior, are Air Conditioned, clean and fresh with very new furnishings. And the hotel was non-smoking even before it was popular to be. And the hotel staff are local, knowledgeable and quite friendly.

    5
« Terrific hotel! Great views, attentive staff and perfect location »

Stayed here for three days in July 2016. Almost every room has a lake view. Our room was very clean and spacious. The upper floors have private balconies. Grand Marais is a small town and this hotel is centrally located. Breakfast is exceptional and it includes those advertised "best doughnuts in the world."

    5
    « Awesome Location »

We had a great stay here for an anniversary getaway. Amazing location that is within walking distance of downtown Grand Marais and Artist's Point. Free breakfast in the morning is pretty basic but got the job done. We had the corner room with the fireplace. Amazing views and right by the beach access door. It was advertised that it had a Jacuzzi tub- but it did not. That was really our only disappointment. We will definitely stay at this hotel again in the future!

    « The Best »

I have stayed at the Best Western for over 25 years we come up yearly. I have always had a very good experience when I am here, I have no desire to try another hotel. I enjoy the breakfast and You get the worlds best donuts every morning. I love the view of the lake and it's at the edge of town so just the people staying there are on the beach. The staff is very friendly and the rooms have always been clean and updated.

    5
    « Location! Location! Location! »

This hotel is situated right on the shore of Lake Superior with a gorgeous view and balconies to enjoy it from. I have stayed here multiple times and it is always clean and friendly. It is a bit pricey but this is a summer destination so I expect to pay more.

    5
« We were very happy! »

Very nice place - clean and well appointed. Large room with balcony and view of harbor. Everything seemed very new: granite counter, carpet, king bed that was very comfortable with nice white bedding. Very good hot breakfast was included. Weather was very warm when we were there - we appreciated the fact that they ice water with lemon available in the lobby all the time. Easy to walk from hotel to shops and restaurants.

    4
    « Not bad, but don't expect a 5 star hotel. »

We stayed in a regular room with 2 doubles, so the rooms with fireplaces are much nicer. Breakfast was good and the beds VERY comfortable. For the price, you may expect more from the hotel, but you are paying for the location and probably some lack of competition. (I have stayed in nicer/newer hotels for way less than 1/2 the price.) With all that given, it was a nice place to stay in Grand Marais so I think it's worthy of 4 stars using those factors. We would stay here again. The rooms do have a nice view of Lake Superior. Everyone seemed nice and friendly as well.

    5
« Great place to stay »

This was my second time there . the room was get clean and comfortable. The staff were very good offered some helpful advice for the area .our room faced the lake with a balcony and a great view. The beds were very nice we slept well . they have a breakfast for guests it's limited but good enough to start the day .the hot tub/whirlpool had a lot of sand in it so we never used it .they have no pool . all in all a very pleasant stay . we will be staying there again .

    5
« Great View sparkling clean »

We arrived late and we're lucky to find a room. The staff were friendly and very helpful. It was during the weekend and most hotels were booked. We were astonished at how neat and clean our room was. We had a super view of Lake Superior. The hotel is close to all area restaurants and attractions. Don't forget to take a run up the Gunflint Trail!

    4
    « Great first stop »

Great first stop on a North Shore vacation. Room was large and clean and pool was great. Breakfast as good and staff friendly. Would stop there again. Access to Duluth and North Shore a plus. Hotel a bit dated, but was clean, quiet and accomodating.

    5
    « Summer Vacation »

My husband and I enjoyed the location, service, room, the lake view, and food at this hotel. They also have a washer and dryer ($1.00/load). The hotel is right on the shore of Lake Superior, and walking to the shops and restaurants in beautiful Grand Marais is steps away. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you!

    4
    « Amazing Room »

We stayed in Room 207, a Renewal Steam Suite. Amazing dark cherry decor. Large room with a shower that had 3 shower heads and room for 2. The in room jacuzzi was the most powerful we have ever used. There was a slight musty smell in the room, but it cleared quickly. The view of the lake was wonderful and leaving the balcony door open so we could hear the waves was very relaxing. They served a full breakfast but we chose to eat out.

    5
« Great time in Grand Marais »

The hotel is perfectly located about 50 feet from the Lake Superior shoreline. Our deck overlooked the lake and we were entertained by the sound of the waves through our walk out onto the deck. The bed was so comfortable. i really hate to say anything good about this place because I don't want to the secret of what a wonderful place it is to stay.

« Excellent Service and Stay! »

Upon arriving to the hotel we were late for a wedding but the excellent staff worked efficiently to get our room ready quickly. Their service during the entire weekend was superb. Thanks to Shaun, Tere, Josh and all other staff I did not meet!

    « Highly recommend - recently renovated »

We were very impressed. The room smelled new! When we walked in the room, we heard the soothing sound of loons and waves from the clock radio - a nice touch. We had a room without a fireplace and whirlpool and it was still great. We had a total view of the water and loved sleeping with the sliding door open to hear the waves. So relaxing! Extremely clean - bed very comfortable - very nice shower and sink area - quality materials. The decorating was very nicely done, contemporary and clean. Shampoo and conditioner were high quality - Gilchrist and Soames. Liked it so much I bought full size bottles at the front desk. Staff was accommodating and pleasant. Microwave, coffeemaker and refrigerator. Easy walk to restaurants and shops.

    « North Shore Getaway »

Excellent time and loved the lake view. Rooms were clean and continental breakfast was great- had "World's Best Donuts" available- Now how could anyone go wrong with that? Within walking distance to shopping and the shoreline. Great place to stay.

    4
    « Good Experience »

Everything was great except breakfast. Continental breakfasts aren't my thing. The eggs were tasteless and I am not sure what the meat was. We especially enjoyed the balcony and the whirlpool tub in the room and the changing color lighting over the whirlpool.

    5
    « Motorcycle Trip »

Great stay at Best Western PLUS Superior Inn, Grand Marais, MN while traveling the north shore on Motorcycles. The room was extremely clean and the double headed tiled shower was a real treat. The view of Lake Superior was beautiful. Complimentary breakfast was very good and also included "world famous" doughnuts; which were delicious! Friendly staff as well! Overall a great stay!

« Annual Grand Marais Visit »

Have stayed here many times, paid top dollar for a suite. This is a great hotel and awesome location for visiting Grand Marais. However, lake room views are a bit of a stretch, as mine was more a grocery-store, barking dog view. The front desk staff was polite and professional, but even with early check-in would not accommodate a room change to a true lake view, with waves and wind. Room was nice, but kind of a buzz-kill.

    5
    « Nice little find! »

For a hotel with waterfront views, this was a great find. Affordable, friendly staff, delicious breakfast, and whoa.... the balcony and the view. It was amazing to sleep with the patio door open all night, feeling the fresh cool lake air and hearing the waves. The moon was rising over the lake and it was breathtaking! We didn't sit out in the beach area, but did enjoy walking through the sandy rocks and standing in the lake for a few seconds. It was like a mini-massage! The rooms felt very private. We will definitely recommend this place and hope to get back soon!

    4
    « Bad Reservation System »

Original room looked over a stagnant pool, with limited view of Lake Superior. Not much for the price they require. Staff did find another available room and we moved. It may have been a real problem had no other room been available. The reservation system should indicate such issues when you make your reservation.

    5
    « beautiful location »

don't let the entrance through the gas station fool you, once you are in this oasis you will be very happy you chose it. The rooms overlook the lake and face Artists Pt. on your own terrace, a very nice perk. I picked this place because of that and because my husband requires air conditioning. Would do it again in a heart beat.

    « Pleasantly Surprised! »

This property has an excellent location, right on Lake Superior- no different from a variety of high end resorts along the north shore we have stayed at. The balcony is nice, our dogs loved it, watching all the birds on the lake. We were in a corner room and had no neighbors to our right which was nice. The bed and shower were average- I like higher end linens. They had a nice breakfast and have -The Worlds Best Donuts- local fair- available at breakfast. They also have coffee /tea all day long in the lobby w/ all the fixings. The fee for pets is very reasonable$15/day. No difficulty w/ parking. The property is in walking distance of the downtown area. So many great hikes available w/ in 30 miles. The only negative was long waits at the front desk for questions and check out.

    « Beargrease Suite »

Great check in experience, large pet friendly room. If offered the choice, go for the 3rd floor suite. We were on the second floor and were treated to heavy walkers, small dogs playing fetch and kids running above us. OK view, but hard to hear the waves over the cooling towers at the grocery next door. The beds were above average for this level motel. We would stay again.

    5
    « Magnificent »

Superlatives abound when explaining a visit to BW Plus Superior Inn and Suites. From the moment I walked in to this mornings departure I was impressed at every turn. The view is spectacular from this Lake Superior waterfront property. You are close enough to shore for sleeping to the sound of waves lapping the impeccably maintained beach. The double queen suite had its own small deck and a wonderful shower. Beds and linens were very comfortable. Your coffee options and a restaurant quality breakfast were a great way to start another work day. This is my first visit and it won't be my last.

    5
    « Great View »

Great hotel with a great view. All rooms have a balcony overlooking Lake Superior! When I called them to book the room I was able to request third floor for best view. The person I talked to was really friendly and took the time to describe the room options. Being a cold climate hotel, they have electric outlets in their parking lot (for engine heat blocks) and they were glad to let me plug-in my plug-in electric hybrid car in overnight.

    5
« Clean, Very Nice Property »

I've stayed in most of the hotels in Grand Marais, usually before our annual trip into the BWCA. The staff is wonderful, especially Larry who assisted with Alcatel change of date this year. The rooms are spotless, updated and the beds were wonderful. A delightful breakfast completed our stay the next morning.

    5
    « Grand Marais, MN »

This was not my first trip to Grand Marais nor my first stay in this Best Western. The room was large and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was fine, with a good selection of hot and cold foods which the attendant kept well stocked. Staff were helpful. I would stay here again.

    4
« Great view, very clean, friendly staff »

The Best Western was a pleasant surprise. Very reasonable rates for being right on Lake Superior. The room was very clean and roomy. Minor complaint was the water pressure for the shower wasn't great. Overall we were very pleased with the accommodations.

« Nice Hotel, Great Check In Experience! »

After a long day of sight seeing in rainy weather, we come to BW Superior Inn. SHAUN is at the front desk! He is not too perky, not too apathetic. He answers our questions like a concierge with a local's insight. He talks my husband into to a balcony room...and SHAUN was right...get the balcony!. We loved the room and the view. The room was clean, large, had very nice shower, plenty of extra room at the vanity, and a clean balcony. That's not always the case with hotel balconies. The breakfast was above average. We are so glad we stayed here!

« Good Location, Room for Improvement »

Decent location on the water front. Recent renovated and contemporary looking. Rooms are reasonably quiet for a wood framed structure. Lacking amenities and small breakfast area with limited options. If they had better mattresses I'd go back.

« Best motel I've found in Grand Marais »

I've stayed at (5) other places in Grand Marais and this Best Western was far and away the best. Clean, modern, convenient, good parking and a good breakfast. Did i mention the spectacular view of the lake Superior from every room? I highly recommend it.

We stayed last weekend at the Superior Best Western Plus. Shaun, the evening desk clerk couldn't have been more helpful with issues we were having! His outgoing, problem solving personality is a big plus for this organization!

    « Great Place »

The hotel was great. Clean and modern, right on Lake Superior, easy walking distance to everything. Breakfast was good, with a potato/pepper and sausage combination, scrambled eggs, sausage and oatmeal, along with the usual cold items. Complimentary coffee in the lobby was a nice touch. The front desk staff, especially Shaun, really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

« Nice hotel by Lake Superior »

Hotel was well located in Grand Marais, close to fun activities, nature, Lake Superior. Hotel was clean and comfortable; staff were helpful. All rooms overlook the lake, a pleasant feature. We enjoyed star-gazing and sunrises by the lake. Would stay there again.

    5
    « Nice stay! »

One night stay. Nice, clean hotel. Great view of the beautiful lake/harbor from our room window. Convenient location. Nice jaccuzi...just no pool...but we usually prefer the jaccuzi anyway. Delicious breakfast...nice variety. Breakfast normally begins at 6am but because we needed to leave early in the morning, we asked if we could begin breakfast a little early. The lady on duty said it was no problem and that she would ask the one who prepares the breakfast to have it ready by 5:45am. We showed up right at 5:45am and they had just put out the last breakfast item. Perfect timing. Thanks Best Western.

    « Relaxation!!! »

I helped my parents get ready for their summer stay in Grand Marias, MN; after a couple of days I stayed in the Best Western Plus because of the location in town and free breakfast. I STRONGLY recommend this hotel; the staff is friendly, it's VERY clean and the breakfast gets the job done. The BEST thing is the view that the room had! It more then made up for the occasional noise from the other tenants TV sound.

« Practically Perfect in Every Way! »

We stayed in the room with the whirlpool tub and the steam shower for a short getaway after our wedding. It was AWESOME! I've never been in a hotel room like that before! Everything was modern and up to date. We had a great view of Lake Superior and we loved lounging by our fireplace. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful, Shaun at the front desk was super helpful, and we enjoyed our stay completely! A+++

« Great Place to Stay »

We really enjoyed our stay here in Grand Marais, Mn. at the Best Western Plus. It is right on the water front of Lake Superior, a beautiful setting. « Reunited »

This is by far our favorite Best Western. It's location with a view, comfort, decor, and service have been the reason we stay at other less than perfect properties to gain our rewards. Unfortunately, over the past several months it was increasingly difficult to redeem our points due to only having a certain number of rooms and type available. We used to use our points for the same room type we paid money for. Recently, it seems there are only 2 double bed rooms with no balcony available with points. In the end, we were able to book within the week's notice, use points for the room available, and upgrade at no cost to the lovely two queen, balcony lake view as a benefit of being a platinum member. We were re-united with our favorite North Shore hotel! :)

    5
    « Wonderful Stay »

This is a clean, well-run hotel with caring staff on a beach front property. The rooms are modern and the bed is super comfortable. We stay here annually for my husband's birthday. If we had more time for leisure we would lengthen our stay. I love Grand Marais!

    « Sweet »

Large room, everything clean, wonderful view of Lake Superior out your window. What's not to love? The complimentary breakfast was okay, and did have hot items. The desk clerk went out of his way to make us feel welcome. We paid $115 per night with our AARP discount.

    5
« Beautiful views and great service! »

We decided to stay in Grand Marais on a whim on a Saturday night. Tory at the front desk was great! She was very kind, friendly, and wanted to make sure we got the best room for our needs. Tory made us feel really special and cared for. They are lucky to have her! The view of the lake from our room was incredible. There was also a free breakfast, which is always a plus :)

Located right on lake superior...perfect view. Check-in was efficient and friendly. Room was very clean. Tourist season hasn't started yet so we didn't have a problem making a reservation but I'm sure this is a very busy place in the summer.

« Great views of Lake Superior »

Nice BW. Great staff, Great views of Lake Superior, watched sunrise over the lake. Indoor HotTub, Walking distance to res truants, Gunflint Tavern, and others. Good internet access and OK speed (2Mb up, 2Mb down) for northern MN. Clean room with Fridge w/freezer (nice to refreeze blueice for cooler), microwave. Early breakfast, they allow you get coffee and cold items before hot breakfast is open. Nice to take back to room, did not use in room coffee maker. Have stayed here many times, and will stay here again. Can be a bit pricey in high season, and weekends. For this reason I like to stay midweek when possible.

« Newly renovated, exceptionally accomodating »

We stayed in Grand Marais in February. We decided to take a last minute day trip to the north shore and Grand Marais seemed like a great place to stay for winter hiking. We originally booked at East Bay Suites as we were excited to find a place with any openings. We knew the room at East Bay was a studio with a murphy bed but we had no idea how gross the room would be. The walls were dirty, the furniture was falling apart, the sink was leaking, etc. Luckily Best Western Superior Inn & Suites came to the rescue. The kind gentleman working the front desk that weekend (Shawn?) gave us a discount on one of the king suites. This suite was beyond awesome at this price point! It was a waterfront room with a jacuzzi, updated bathroom and this amazingly comfortable bed. We could not have asked for more on our little day adventure but there was more! In classic Best Western style there was a continental breakfast and high quality coffee. The breakfast was extensive and the setup was convenient. It was so convenient to not have to search for food (or quality coffee) in town before going out hiking again. It was quiet, comfortable and convenient. Thank you for making our weekend!

    « A Good Experience »

This hotel had a great view of the lake, was clean and quiet, and had Wi-Fi that was easy to use . The breakfast was terrific. The hot tub was also very nice. The front desk staff gave good directions and recommendations on things to do.

« on the lake---recent updates---great place to rest up »

4/18/16---King room, fire place, whirlpool in room plus a balcony to watch the waves crash. bed was comfy. 2 TV's in room. Slept with window open for the waves crashing sounds. Our funny, power went out 2x's. hubby thought I did it. charging stations, boise radios, great reading lights. CLEAN!!! wish they provided a bubble bath since they provide robes. On a beach (if you dare) walking to town is easy...we had pizza and due to the power outages so was everyone else. Breakfast was basic, pancakes, not waffles, but fresh. Easily the best of the Best Western's I've stayed at. Will be going back.

Very nice place, perfect in town location, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Walking distance to several restaurants and the waterfront. Breakfast was good, nice variety of options. Always hot beverages and ice water in the lobby.

My husband and I only stayed one night at the hotel. We were traveling with our dog, and received a nice clean room with a great view of the lake. Shaun was especially helpful at check in time and showed us the room before we checked in. He also gave me a military discount without me even asking for it after he saw my military ID. Once in our room, our toilet was running and wouldn't flush. Shaun came up to the room in a matter of minutes and fixed it himself. He was so nice and welcoming, he really went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

We love staying in grand Marais and going up the Gunflint Trail. This time brought our daughter and her fiancé'. They also loved it. The Best Western is perfect! Great view out our window overlooking Lake Superior.

« If the price is acceptable, snag the opportunity. »

This could be very well the most awe-inspiring hotel in Grand Marais, especially if your room is located on the 2nd or 3rd floor which means you will have a balcony overlooking the lake. (The first floor means you have beach access, which is nothing to shake a stick at either). The only problem I had with my room was a sticky door latch which made getting in and out a little annoying. Otherwise it's a beautiful, well-furnished room suited to enjoying that lake view. Breakfast was good and if you stay more than one night you'll find variances in the offerings from day to day which is nice. The only downside is the price. Most of the year, and even in the offseason (mid-October through mid-May) the prices will understandably be quite high to say the least, and when I'm visiting Grand Marais during the nicer summer/fall seasons when I'm not intending to spend much time in the hotel, I will find it more economic to explore other options. Pros: Location, amenities Cons: Nightly rates

    « Nice hotel »

My family visited Grand Marais area on March 31. It was still cold but quiet and peaceful. We stayed this hotel for one night. Staffs were very friendly, the room was clean and very next to the lake Superior. Shower booth was clean and really nice. Heating was operated by water heating so it was very quiet (no noise of heater). The breakfast was ordinary but still good.

« Mostly good but could've been better »

Before booking, I called the hotel people and told them a simple requirement that I wanted a king size bed and the room must have the best view of lake and must be on top floor. The manager didn't understand this and kept on saying she doesn't understand what I am looking for. She kept on confusing me saying that there are 5 different configurations and she is not sure which one fits my requirement. If staff can't figure out my simple (and most common) requirement, how on earth the customer will figure out? Not sure if they're trained so respond so. Finally, I left the same requirement while booking on TripAdvisor. When I arrived, the room they gave me was 100% different from what I wanted. They gave me ground floor room with a view that sucks big time. The working manager told me that she can give me a better room for additional $21. I'd to tell them strongly that I'll report this matter. Then, the manager gave me a double Queen bed room on the top floor that had a great lake view. Once in, everything was in place. However - why on earth the working manager had to confuse me in the first place? Moreover, I went absolutely during non season and when it was snowing. God knows if they were running so busy that they can't give me a room of my simple yet common requirement.

The hotel and the staff were all excellent! We had one of the most enjoyable stays ever! The location right on the lakefront was ideal, and the view was breath-taking. The hotel was centrally located near restaurants and shopping. The close proximity to the Whole Foods Co-op is a huge plus.

    « Nice view! »

Great room on the Great Lake. We stayed in a Grand Room which was very nice and roomy. The bed was super comfortable and it was wonderful to lay in bed and listen to the waves hit the shore. The breakfast was good, even some homemade lefse. They are renovating but it never bothered us over the four days we were there. Nice access to the lake and a gorgeous view from any room.

Great staff, helpful and friendly. Our room had a great view of the water. My wife and I enjoyed a cup of coffee on our deck watching the sunset on the water. There was always free-good tasting coffee- available in the lobby. Thanks for a nice weekend.

    « Loved Our Stay »

One of the lovely features of this hotel is that it provides every single room with a view of the lake. During our stay, a storm erupted, and the waves on the lake were absolutely magnificent. The room itself was comfortable, safe, roomy, clean, and we were impressed with the upgrades to the hotel being performed throughout our stay. The staff were ALL friendly and accommodating, and some excellent restaurants were a 10 minute walk away. We have been going to Grand Marais a few times a year for over 10 years now, and we have chosen this hotel every single time, both for value and comfort.

« Great staff and excellent value »

We were greeted by a very friendly staff with great local knowledge. Our room was very clean and offered an excellent view of the harbour. The entire experience more than met our expectations. A great room for a great price.

« A great accomodation in Grand Marais »

Slept well in the comfortable suite. The mattress and bedding were fresh, soft and great for sleeping. You will enjoy a quality breakfast with cranberry/wild rice bread for toasting, excellent oatmeal with varied toppings available and many other great breakfast items. The hotel is under renovation which will only make the hotel more appealing for our next stay in beautiful Grand Marais.

    « Paper thin walls. »

Positives: Room 331 has a lovely view of the lake. Room also has some nice modern updates even though the exterior and hallways of the hotel are outdated. Negatives: Spent $150 during the offseason only to hear the conversations of rooms to the side and below me. It's not like those rooms were hosting rowdy parties... It's just that the walls have such terrible insulation that it feels like I'm sharing space with my neighbors. If you're looking to stay awake all night and not rest peacefully, this is the place for you. I've never stayed in a hotel where I could hear neighbor's conversations so easily through walls and floors. I wish part of the room updating would have included some sound insulation. It would have been money well spent.

Second time staying here. Even more impressed this time.. Great rooms at very reasonable rates. Breakfast was way more than expected too and set us u well for a day hiking!. First class accommodation and service.. I will definitely return and I highly recommend this for anyone staying in Grand Marais.

    « Acceptable »

The hotel is situated very nicely on the shores of Lake Superior, the only issue I had is that is was under construction and the hot tub area looked dingy. The staff was pleasant and helpful. I just think for the price of the room it was nothing special. I would try another hotel in GM next time I come up.

    « Very Nice Stay »

Enjoyable and relaxing stay, after a long day mushing with a dog team at Points Unknown. The room was spacious and clean. I had a wonderful winter view of Lake Superior, as the snow was falling, from a balcony sliding door. The breakfast was great! They had a unique feature. A pancake machine, instead of the typical waffle machines.

We stayed in Grand Marais Sept. 2015. The weather was great. Our room was upgraded to a Luxury King Suite since the room we were staying in was "double booked." for the second night. The room was lovely. The deck was a little small but the view was great. We will return.

This is probably the best place to stay in Grand Marais. Friendly ... Clean... Well kept rooms...up to date decor,.. Great breakfast and nice size breakfast area. They have good parking for snowmobiles and four wheeler trailers and nice and close to food and gas. Lake Superior is a nice view here!!

« Best Western - Plus Grand Marais, MN »

Checkin staff went out of his way to be welcoming and get us checked-in quickly. I know the hotel is trying to cater to a wide variety of guests including those who insist on needing to bring their pets with them, and its impossible to control pet owners behavior, but its most disturbing and inconsiderate on the part of pet owners to have their pets do their business right outside the door you enter the building from. You can't help but step through this mess to enter the building now this means its tracking through the whole building, come on people. A suggested solution: offer only a limited number of pet friendly units and keep them segregated from non pet totting guests. I'm also not particularly thrilled about having a barking dog in the next room - that's not something one expects when you try to get away somewhere.

« Great hotel with amazing views. »

The hotel was under light construction when we stayed. The rooms have been updated and the bathrooms completely redone. The only set back was the shampoo and conditioner, they smelled like urine... Breakfast was good and so was the coffee.

    « dissappointed »

very disaapointed in how the rowdiness and noise was handled during the night as a group of swim meet kids ran the halls for hours, slammed doors, sounds like jumping off beds, yelling ddwn hallways. and when reported, it continued yet another night, unlable to sleep more than 3 hrs two nights in row. No action taken to slop it second night and no compensation for our lack of sleep offered to us.

We enjoyed the friendly staff, clean room, lake view, good breakfast, free coffee and tea throughout the very cold day, and the free pass to the local YMCA. It's conveniently located--walking distance to restaurants and other shops in the heart of Grand Marais. They are pet-friendly.

    « A Wonderful Place to Stay »

Clean, newly updated, and comfortable. This hotel is right in the middle of Grand Marais and right on the lake. All of the rooms have a view of Lake Superior with the sound of the waves as background to your stay. While the hotel is updating many of its rooms, we felt no disruptions or inconvenience. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is your regular hotel free fare--a hot selection (scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage) with your choice of all the rest (pancakes, cereal, yogurt, bagels, etc.). Coffee, tea, and fruit are available around the clock. I would definitely return here. They also have a lower wing to accommodate people with pets.

    « Disappointed »

My wife and I generally make one to two trips to Grand Marais each fall. Because of the Lake Superior view, we prefer to stay at the Best Western there. On our last trip there, we were disappointed to find that our room overlooked not the lake, but downtown Grand Marais. This was the very first time we had anything but a lakeside room. As it turns out, it was the last room. Had we known it wasn't lakeside, we'd have reserved elsewhere.

    « Love this place »

Great hotel, My husband and I have stayed here twice on 2 separate anniversaries over labor day weekend, and had a great experience each time. they had updated the rooms last time we were there, we stayed in a steam shower suite with a whirlpool in the room, it was awesome. The shower was amazing, I love being right on lake superior, leaving the patio door open at night to listen to the waves crashing on shore. Its just like being at the ocean, the closest we can get here in MN anyways. The breakfast is just fine, we are not picky, and for whats included with what we pay, we will take it with a smile on our faces and 0 complaints. your basic continental breakfast with the exception that they do have simple cake donuts from the "worlds best donut shop" down the road. otherwise, Lefse was a big hit with my husband, they had cereal ,oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, pancakes(or maybe it was waffles) can't remember. The only thing I could say bad, was they were understaffed in the dining area, and everything was running out, I felt really bad for the kids trying to get stuff out and done,(they were busting their butts with people stopping them and asking for stuff) but it was just so busy being labor day, and then to see the manager on duty just sitting reading a magazine at the front desk during the craziness of the breakfast rush, and everything empty, really looked bad on her.

Beautiful view of the Lake with all the amenities. This really is the place to stay in Grand Marais for a reasonable rate. Clean, comfortable rooms with a helpful, friendly staff. My husband was there on business, so we made the most of our stay. Will definitely come back to this hotel

« Awesome Stay in Grand Marais! »

My husband and I took a weekend trip to Grand Marais, & stayed with The Best Western Plus Superior Inn & Suites. We generally book with Best Western Plus hotels, and as usual, it did not disappoint! The staff were awesome, the room was very well kept/clean, and the breakfast was great :) We got a lake view room, which I recommend. The balcony is nice, & the view is amazing! (Picture attached). Our bed was super comfy, the room was modern & updated, as was the bathroom. (New & modern walk-in shower with double shower heads). They have a large hot tub that we took advantage of. There's no pool, but enjoyed the hot tub. They do a full breakfast, but there is no actual restaurant or bar. No biggie though, as you're close to all of that in Grand Marais :)! Overall, we had a really nice stay, & will definitely return! We recommend the Best Western Plus for sure!

    « Excellent night stay »

This hotel is an excellent place to stay. Many renovations are taking place right now but that didn't make it any less appealing. The workers were very friendly and were not loud or in the way at any time. We were able to walk all around Grand Marais from this central location. Breakfast was very nice and the coffee was always on. An enjoyable little get away.

« Spectacular view of Lake Superior! »

We visited Grand Marais, Mn. a little past the Fall leave viewing season. Our room at Best Western was very reasonable probably because of this. The view from our room was spectacular! We were on the ground floor and we could walk out to the lake. The room was very clean and updated. The breakfast the next morning was excellent. Staff very helpful and courteous. We would definately stay again.

    3
« Nice Best Western -- but it's no BW PLUS »

This is a nice place, and very convenient to walking downtown, to the lakefront and to many restaurants. It's a little older and a little run down, but clean enough. As a regular Best Western, it's just fine. But this property is labeled as a Best Western Plus. I have higher expectations for the Plus name, and the higher price.

    3
« Not sure why this is a Best Western Plus »

The price certainly was as high or higher than most Best Westerns... but the quality felt like a regular Best Western. Not bad, just not worth the extra price and name. The breakfast was the best thing about this place. The hot tub was nice and hot and big enough, but it's tucked into a dungeon room. The place is older, but clean and pretty well-maintained. The rooms are quite small, but have nice view of Lake Superior.

    4

Terrific place to stay when in town for a busy writing conference. Beds were particularly cozy with a great place to write and a view of the lake. Within walking distance of the food coop, several restaurants, the point, etc. Would definitely stay again.

    « Loved my room! »

I was shocked when I opened the door to my large, luxurious, and very clean room overlooking Lake Superior. It was even equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. The sheets were crisp, the towels white, and the floors well vacuumed. And the double shower head that moved around! The only thing missing was more gluten-free and vegetarian food at breakfast. I will stay again!

Our room was clean and spacious. Bed was quite comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best I have had at a motel - a variety of items, including potatoes, meat, eggs, yogurt, juice, fruit, oatmeal, etc. This was a breakfast that provided a good start for a morning of outdoor activity. Staff was friendly and helpful. Being able to listen to the Lake Superior wave at night was an added bonus. Other than the lake waves, the hotel was very quiet.

This hotel is everything you could ask for - great location, friendly and helpful staff, and clean and comfortable rooms. We stayed in a king room with a cozy gas fire place and spectacular views of Lake Superior. The room was very clean, had convenient amenities (hair dryer, coffee pot, mini fridge) and the bed was very comfortable. The front desk staff was helpful, friendly and enthusiastic. The continental breakfast had a little bit of everything and plenty of hot coffee! We will definitely stay at this hotel again on our next visit to Grand Marais and will recommend it to family and friends!

Love the "Grand Room" category of updated room with balcony offering great views of Lake Superior, walk-in shower, sofa...and unique rock lamp and wall art from local artists. Breakfast is excellent, topped off with lefse. Easy to leave car in parking lot and walk to restaurants, shops, museums and scenic spots around town. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our four night stay went far too fast as this is our favorite "up north" getaway for any season.

« Better than we expected from a chain! »

We traveled as a couple with two dogs & spent 3 nights in the new wing, "Bear" something or other. The location can't be beat, it's steps away to everything in town, without feeling like you're sleeping in the middle of it all. Our balcony had a lake view if you sat on it, but was 90 degrees to the beach. It had two chairs and a small table, we brought our breakfast back to the room & ate on the balcony, lovely. Our room had a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, sink, lots of counter space, storage, & lots of cups which was nice too. I felt the price was high, but it's a small town with a tourism based economy, and we went during peak season, so the prices were the same all over, & most places were sold out. We suspect that all guests with pets were put in this same wing of the hotel, which is fine. The noise from the room above us carried quite a bit, but at the same time nobody complained when the noise prompted my dog to bark either, so I guess it balances some. There was a grassy area off the water below the balconies with a dog waste station which was great. They gave us dog treats when we checked in, but also let us know that dogs were not allowed in the lobby, hallways, or breakfast area. I get the breakfast area, but the hallways & lobby? Another thing to know is that in our dog-friendly room, the comforter is white. White. We were primarily there for the hiking, so bringing dogs in from a hike we didn't expect any of us to be clean. We pulled enough blankets and things from our car to cover the bed so the dogs wouldn't soil the white comforter if they jumped up there. Just be aware. We'd stay again.

The complimentary breakfast was excellent. ..eggs, potato hash, pancakes, pastries, fruit, yogurt to name a few. Complimentary coffee with syrups and creams...multiple flavors which are out 24/7. Staff was warm and inviting. And hotel is pet friendly. Would definitely return.

« Great spot on the lake! »

Beautiful views of Lake Superior!! It's right on the lake. And close to everything in town. The entire staff were all helpful and friendly. We got a suite. Wow! Super clean. Fireplace, spa tub, kitchenette, 2 TVs, and that AMAZING view of the lake. And a small balcony. I didn't want to leave. The only thing I'd say they could work on is the included breakfast. Pretty standard fare and not much room for the guests. None the less, will stay there again when we go back to Grand Marais.

« Great Location and Nice Amenities »

Well located along the North Shore Drive, just off Hwy 61 and on the edge of Lake Superior. Also close to places to eat in Grand Marais. Our two double beds had lots of pillows, three each, and the room came with a microwave and small refrigerator, great for the smoked fish and cheese we purchased along the drive. The room was clean and the view of Lake Superior was very nice. I took a walk out to the shoreline early in the morning. The breakfast was about par for this type of hotel - not bad, not great. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

We like staying here when in Grand Marais. The rooms have great lake views, are very clean & are spacious. The king bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The rooms have decks facing the lake. We love to keep the door open a bit at night so we can hear the waves upon the shoreline. They offer an excellent variety of food choices for continental breakfast. There's no excuse to not find something for everyone. Hot & cold items include eggs, sausage, Canadian bacon,(egg & protein options change daily), potato & sausage mix, oatmeal with several topping options, pancakes, cold cereals, juice, yogurt along with several choices of breadsticks, muffins & Danish. They even have lefse! They have a board that lists all of their foods that are gluten free. Right outside the breakfast room in the lobby they have fresh fruit (apples, bananas & apples), fruit infused ice water, tea & coffee available all day. This hotel is located within a short walking distance of many shops.

    « Good Value »

This was a very impressive value for the location. I have been to the northshore several times and stayed in cabins and other hotels outside of Grand Marais. I wanted to be in town this time to give more options for places to eat and shop. The choices in town are fairly limited but this was a real gem for the price. Our room was a pretty basic room with 2 queen sized beds but also very nice view of the lake. We also had a completely empty refrigerator which was nice to store some drinks and snacks instead of a full mini bar that we would never use or have to try to empty out to be able to use it. The breakfast included was a great value as well with plenty of choices beyond a standard continental breakfast. I would definitely recommend it and would stay again!

    5
    « Very Impressed! »

We were impressed from the moment we walked through the doors. In the nicely decorated lobby is 5 different types of coffee and a bowl of fresh fruit at all times along with water with lemon available. Our room was 218. I think it was one of the standard assessable rooms. Beautiful room decorated with a northwoods theme. Awesome shower! Our small deck overlooked the lake and we kept the sliding glass door open at night and we could hear the crashing waves. The hotel is perfectly located in Grand Marias and you can walk to everything. The hotel breakfast was the best I have ever had with a included free breakfast. They had homemade breads including cranberry wild rice bread, lefse, pancakes, eggs, sausage, cereals, hot oatmeal and many other items. I will definitely stay here again! But I would request the 2nd or 3rd floor.

We have been coming to the Best Western for a number of years and it has always met our expectations. « A Place on the Lake Superior »

The views from each room are of Lake Superior lapping the coastline. The sounds are of the surf. Rooms are spaciously appointed with decks, newly decorated showers, sink separated from toilet and shower area, and comfy chairs. The folks running this motel supply it with creature comforts: iced lemon water and 4 varieties of coffee 24 hrs daily along with Torani syrups. A special feature of breakfast for me was special cranberry bread filled with nuts and seeds. The homemade oatmeal was especially good when sprinkled with dried cranberries and nuts. Yes, there is a hot tub for those wanting to relax after a long day of hiking. If this were not enough, the front desk staff is congenial and knowledgeable. I'd return there in a heartbeat!

    « Everything we needed »

The desk staff was exceedingly kind even with two phone calls waiting. The room was well designed. Great dual shower head, night light placed in just the right place in the bathroom, balcony overlooking the lake, lovely and distinctive soap products, and housekeeping very responsive. The giant whirlpool could have been cleaner and the breakfast area is small when crowded, but these were not deal breakers. We would be back.

    « We'd stay there again. »

New, modern bath with large shower and no tub, really clean, sink outside bathroom, A/C quieter than most, lake/beach view w/private balcony, breakfast meat looked like spam, firm bed. A little more expensive at $200 per night, but we think it was worth it.

« Bad weather? Who cares! »

This is not our first time staying at this Best Western. All of our experiences here have been positive, but this time, rather than going hiking as usual, the weather turned nasty so we were stuck inside. Fortunately for us, all of the standard rooms were taken when we made our reservation, so we took a suite. We REALLY needed a get away. Turns out the rain was the best thing to happen. We spent all day in our beautiful room, enjoying the view of the stormy lake from our big sofa, fire in the fireplace, just relaxing. This hotel is expensive, but when you compare prices with other resorts of similar quality, it is not out of line. We felt it was WELL worth the money.

« Relaxing on the North Shore »

Excellent hotel. My wife and I were on the north shore of Superior for a few days vacation. This was our first time at this hotel. We loved it and will definitely return. The service and facility were top notch and the location is wonderful, right on the shore and one block from multiple dining options in Grand Marais. This is a very well maintained, well-run hotel. Highly recommended.

    « Excellent motel »

Rooms are impressive as are the sun rises. The staff is highly competent. Food--O.K. Bacon is what is needed. Potatoes were very good. The eggs were better than most of the other Best Western Motels. The eggs appeared to have actually been cooked in house--not the frozen yellow shoe heels found in other Best Western Motels..

    « Great Place - Great Lake »

It is in a perfect location, right on the Lake shore. Each room has a great view of the lake with a balcony to sit and enjoy the view. Rooms are are large and everything is great. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. It is within walking distance to the downtown area of Grand Marais and within driving distance for site seeing during the days as well.
