Disappointing considering rated top hotel in Burnley. Small room for so many guests, not enough tables and chairs for everyone, average buffet, small portions of meat pie and desserts. Pretty average really.

« Back again to our Hidden Little Gem!!!!! »

Just back from staying at the Higher Trapp again, all 17 of us had an amazing time again....trust me you will not be disappointed with this hotel or it's fabulous staff members. We are a family group that travel on weekends away together quite a bit....our ages ranging from 10 to 82......and before we left yesterday we all booked to go back again in March 2017. The Receptionist's are all wonderful...however hat's off to Jess for making our checkin/out a fantastic experience, she just couldn't do enough for us all.....and remembered who we all were from our last stay! My little friend Ann Daly who works so hard on cleaning the rooms with her team has to be commended also......the rooms and public areas are kept beautifully ans spotlessly clean.....we stayed in the lodge this time and the rooms were just as nice as the main hotel itself. I also need to mention Sheila and her staff in Fitzy's......OMG......the lunch was as nice as the dinner in the evening.....spectacular food..... and service to match......a big shout out to Ray also.....everyone of the bar staff were so attentive to our needs.....whilst they also attended to a wedding that was on that day! Thanks so much to all the staff at The Higher Trapp......we can't wait to see you soon. Lots of love Emer Quinn Eden

« Well placed for the motorway but in the countryside, dog friendly »

Quite a find to be close to motorways but still in the countryside surrounded by fields, close to Pendle Hill. Originally would have been an interesting old house but it has been (I think) over modernised under the Best Western branding, with little left. Unfortunately when we visited (midweek) there was a lively Wedding on which rather took over the hotel, but the staff were very apologetic and catered for us as best they could. Dogs were only allowed in the lounge but a table was set up for us there which was really helpful. Bedroom looked recently refurbished, was very large and comfortable. If you go, don't miss the little craft shop just down the road, Higher Trapp Forge, really worth a visit.

    « Higher Trapp Hotel »

attended a wedding at this hotel this weekend and whist the venue / setting is great, I have to say that at a rate of £100.00 per night the rooms / bathrooms are tired / dated and in need of a upgrade The staff were very friendly and helpful and did their best to make the wedding a success, but I would question the prices charged at the bar, which everyone thought were quite expensive

    « wonderful lunch »

Four of us had a birthday lunch today. We were very warmly welcomed both at reception and in the dining room. Everyone looked happy and made us feel relaxed. We chose from the lunch offer and it represented excellent value for money as well as being well presented, plentiful and tasty. Two had gammon, one had cheese pie and another sausage and mash. All equally great. No hesitation in recommending this venue.

    « In the hills »

A weekend break was spent here. Not far from Burnley and the motorway. Easy access to Pendle hills and the Witches.Plenty of local walking available. Friendly staff and good restaurant a nice warm atmosphere.

    « Standards »

Probably not the best time of year to enjoy what they have to offer and when the Winter does come I'd be concerned about getting in or out on an icy morning. Generally a bit dated throughout the public areas and bedroom. Also some noise from Fitzys below my room (hand dryer from toilets for example). Other than that a peaceful sleep due to slightly remote location (only noise to delay sleep one night was from an owl!). Decent size TV, abandoned clock radio and, on the cleaning front, bathroom had a discarded bottle top from a previous guest plus dirt rings on bathroom shelf. OK for the sole traveller but not sure if I would bring my much better half here.

    « Wonderful break »

The food and staff were very good and the hotel was very clean everything about this hotel was 1st class and we will use this hotel again,we had a meal and breakfast on our last visit and it was one of the best we had for a long time, the drinks in the bar were not that expensive

« Great stay at the Higher Trapp hotel »

We stayed in room 16 on Sunday 30th October, on arrival we got a lovely reception, room nice but not the views we had over the garden we had last time but it was soon getting dark when we arrived so not a lot to see. Comfy bed, lovely fluffy towels and good shower with bath, nice touches with the biscuits and tea, coffee etc. We was on a wowcher deal so meal upto the value of £18.95 and small bottle of prosecco. I had soup, roast beef and apple crumble with custard, my husband had black pudding and main was rag pudding, al courses was presented well and tasted delicious. Service was excellent by all staff members, thank you so much to Shiela for borrowing me her reading glasses so I could read the menu!! Breakfast was brilliant, really big choice on the table to help yourself and also a great cooked full English, again staff served us well. The building is really nice with fantastic views over the ribble valley, we did a 10 mile walk over pendle hill, well worth the climb at the top. Looking forward to staying at the higher trapp hotel in the near future.

« The search for hot water »

Booked in at 13.30 27th Oct. TRied to have a shower before going out for a meal. Water was freezing. Complained at 6 pm went out. Back at 10.30pm complained again. After 4 attempts next morning, water was still only lukewarm by 12.30pm. I suggest you bring your own water heater with you!!!!!!

« Review from a disabled wheelchair guest in room 30. »

Room spacious, only one side of the bed accessible. Bed on accessible side had no bant (support) to it. Mattress needed changing. Hubby said other side okay. Cobwebs on ceiling, iron burn imprint on carpet. Bathroom good but I couldn't turn my power chair around in it. Dinner and breakfast reasonably good. Bar prices very expensive, £4.50 for a pint of bitter! Staff friendly and helpful. Road down to accessible room allowing dogs is very steep. Wouldn't like to try it in snowy or icy conditions.

« Great venue to stay and celebrate a wedding »

We attended a wedding, reception and evening function here on Friday, 2st October. All was very well planned and organised. We stayed overnight at The Lodge, adjacent to the main hotel building. The hotel is located in a quiet setting within magnificent gardens and wonderful views over the Lancashire countryside. It is also conveniently situated to major towns and places of interest. The staff are welcoming, pleasant and friendly. Overall service provided was excellent. Having travelled 200 miles/3.5 hours, we still arrived at the hotel well in advance of the earliest check-in time. However, this presented no problems at all. Our room was made available immediately allowing us to freshen-up and change for the wedding. The hotel has charm and character. The rooms are clean, airy and benefited from uninterrupted beautiful scenery (from The Lodge bedroom). The food provided at both the wedding reception and evening function was of good quality and enjoyable. The choice at breakfast was very good. Better still - it was not the usual buffet-style.

    « Great Location »

WE attended our Neice's wedding on 22/10/2016 and the overall experience was pleasing with good clean rooms excellent service from helpful staff good food and lovely grounds civil ceremony was in a very nice room and there was little distance between different rooms used throughout the day

    « Lovely Stay »

My wife and I had an overnight stay with a Wowcher voucher which included a small bottle of prosecco, a 2 course meal and breakfast. The hotel is in lovely grounds with beautiful views. We had a really good relaxing stay. The food was really good and the staff were friendly and professional. We will definitely be back.

« One night B&B and evening meal from Groupon »

Fantastic country setting with outstanding views, clean comfortable accommodation and superb meals. The evening meal exceptional, I chose meat rag pudding which was described as an old fashioned favourite which originated in the mill town of Oldham. As I was born in Oldham and had grown up on my Mother's Rag Pudding, it was an obvious choice and I was not disappointed.

    « AVERAGE »

This hotel is nice and the staff very helpful. However, our room was not in the main hotel which was a disappointment. We stayed in the "Lodge" which was across a rather uneven tarmac carpark and in the dark in heels! The room was dated and tired albeit clean. I did not appreciate having to walk back to the main hotel the next morning in the rain and wind to have breakfast having paid the same rate as those guests who were nice and cosy in the main hotel!

    « Anniversary Return »

21 years ago we had our wedding reception at the Higher Trapp so thought we would return. I had emailed the hotel prior to our visit to ask for rose petals on the bed, champagne and flowers and all were in the room on arrival. We had the same room we had 21 years ago and the staff could not have been more helpful. The room is a little dated now yes but to me that's the charm of the place. In the afternoon we had afternoon tea which was a fabulous mix of sandwiches and cakes. The evening mean was in Fitzys bar and was absolutely fabulous, as was the accompanying wine. Breakfast in the morning was as good as expected and we could not fault the place. The place was as good as it was in 1995 and one thing is for sure we won't be waiting 21 years to return !

    « Nice stay »

Very nice and comfortable hotel, very kind staff, good breakfast, very good value for money. I would recommend 100% If you looking for a nice place, clean, comfortable for a good price than you choose the right hotel

    « D'ont ask for ketchup. »

my wife and I stayed here last sunday on a groupon deal. the price was very reasonable and we were not expecting anything too special. well, we were pleasantly surprised by welcome by the reception who were very organised and we checked in and found our room, it was very clean and tidy but very compact and acceptable. we went down to the restaurant for dinner not expecting anything too special considering the price we paid, well, we had a choice of tables and the staff were very friendly and the food was outstanding, a fine dining experience. I had the black pudding wrapped in proscuetto, battered and deep fried, wow, it was fantastic. then I had the cheese and onion pie, i'll remember as long as I live, it was outstanding. with this meal I got the hand cut chips, superb, but my big mistake was asking for ketchup, I like my ketchup and i'm very fussy. well, the ketchup that arrived in a little dish that I put over my lovely chips was awful. I can't understand why a restaurant that serves this quality of food gives you ketchup that must have cost a pound for 25 litres, they let themselves down, just my little niggle. going to bed it was just a normal size bed, not a kingsize which we are used to, so not great. overnight we were disturbed by other guests noisily making their way to their room, which was next door, you could practically hear every word that was said. in the morning about 7am they got up very noisily, talking and plugging things in and out of sockets on the dividing wall. we went down for breakfast and it was again outstanding, you would not go away hungry. I've given 5 stars because of the reasonable price we paid and the friendliness of staff and quality of food. we will return i'm sure.

    « Fantastic hotel »

I was a walk in booking and the receptionist was fantastic. Into a beautiful room within 10 minutes. Great evening meal, good beer, very pleasing relaxing environment. Pleasurable and restful. Attention to detail included a lavender spray in the bedroom to help you sleep. Didn't need it, relaxed and most wonderful rest. Breakfast and coffee matched the rest or the experience. All of the staff were great! Thank you I'll stay again!!

« Tip Top Stop At The Higher Trapp »

We had a discounted price that included evening meal and breakfast which made this especially good value. The food and the stay was superior to other Best Western Hotels I have stayed at and exceeded my expectations.

« Great food, nice location, but rooms need a facelift »

I stay here at least once or twice every month on business and my title says it all really. The location is lovely, and although the building itself is quite old and clearly in need of a refurbishment, the food and the restaurant service is very good, with friendly staff and a good range of menu choice, plus the bar and restaurant area has recently been refurbished to a good standard. It's the rooms that let this place down; having stayed in a few they can vary substantially in terms of style and decor, and the cleaning often seems slapdash and inconsistent, but worst of all they are very tired and worn, and are in desperate need of a facelift. There is also no air-con. Having said that, the wi-fi is free (if a little dodgy in some areas), the beds are comfy, and the corporate rate my company gets is exceptional value for money, so I guess you get what you pay for and you can't really ask for more than that.

    5
    « Very enjoyable break »

Stayed on a two-night deal in the Lodge. Lovely, comfortable and quiet room quite a distance from the main building and down a slope. We enjoyed a good meal and beer in the restaurant and two very filling breakfasts. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Would definitely consider staying again.

    « Ambient Higher Trapp. »

We had a wonderful surprise when we arrived. The hotel was flooded with autumn sunshine and the views were nothing short of spectacular out on the terrace. Higher Trapp is surrounded by lush gardens and old forest. We were attacked by a Beech tree that was hurling acorns at us when we walked up the lane but decided not to lodge a complaint with reception!! The food and service was of an exceptionally high standard. It truly is a very welcoming environment to unwind and relax into. We wished we had booked for a longer stay as we were only on a short break. Thank you to all the staff who made this memorable.

    « beautiful hotel. »

We got married here 3/10/15 and have just returned for our anniversary. The staff are lovely , the food exceptional and the hotel and it's grounds are beautiful. Every time we are their the staff go out of their way to make it special.everyone of our guests commented on how beautiful it was and how much they enjoyed their stay .I can't recommend this hotel enough whether your looking for a stunning venue for your wedding or just a night away.

very good for price we payed staff were excellent rooms a bit tired but as I said very good for price,we would definatly stay again but for two or more nights.A room overlooking the countryside instead of the rear would have made it even better.

    « Excellent allround!! »

Visited this magnificent Best Western hotel on the 2nd into the 3rd October 2016. You have a truly stunning panoramic view of the Ribble Valley, which is breathtaking! From start to finish it was a special time, as on arrival we were warmly greeted and all the staff were very attentive and friendly to our every need! We took two dogs, (German Shepherd and a labrador), who they warmly welcomed who had the run of the hotel (excluding restaurant). Despite not having access to the restaurant, the staff were very accommodating, in that a special table was set up for us, in the lounge area, which was stunning, where the dogs could be with us during our lunch on arrival. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was in the Parkers Lodge, which was truly fabulous for any dog owner with big dogs!! Lots of space and "private" car park leading straight on to a fantastic landscaped garden, again where dogs were free to roam off lead! Truly amazing place and would urge anybody with or without dogs to visit. The restaurant was again, brilliant, great food-and plenty of it! service was excellent. Good choice on the menu and exquisitly presented. All members of staff were more than friendly, Helen, who served us in the restaurant was fanatsic, throughout our stay, she was great! She met our every need and even provided us, there and then, with extra tea, sugar and milk to take back to our room...lovely lady and nothing was too much trouble! Would definitely return as do most people who we spoke to during our visit...for some, it was their 3rd and 4th time of visiting! It is excellent value for money Cleanliness was second to none throughout the hotel, all staff work very hard to ensure your visit is memorable for all the right reasons!

    3
    « Very average »

As a visiting customer rather than resident I can only comment on the service at an event. Hotel in a pleasant location with adequate parking. Nice terrace overlooking the gardens with plenty of tables and comfortable seating. Mediocre food. Rooms for event well dressed, beautiful flowers but don't know if these were the work of the hotel florist or from elsewhere. The bar service and tariff left a lot to be desired. No fizzy mineral water at first and when someone much later located some they charged £2 for a small bottle. A few half melted ice cubes were added but we had to ask for a slice of lemon. No wonder lots of people were asking for tap water instead!

    4
    « Surprising Location »

Booked on Travelzoo for one night including dinner at a really good price. The Hotel is in lovely countryside a few miles out of Burnley;an amazing location with great views. As a wheelchair user the accessible room was excellent, the only downside was the bed .I am used to a super king size and a normal double feels a little small. The food was good as was the service. All in all we had a lovely stay.

    4
« Amazing location fabulous views »

We took advantage of an offer, excellent value for money. Our room was a premium deluxe and was huge overlooking garden and views as far as Holcombe Tower. Breakfast first day fab, second day left under heat lamp as staff were busy with wedding preparation. The staff were all lovely, friendly, chatty and relaxed with customers.

    4
    « Bad start »

After arriving and finding that there was no lift and that the twin room we requested was in fact a double. Not a good start. But the room we had been allocated had a sofa bed and the staff were so helpful making it up whilst we were at dinner. With extra sheets I case this duvets were too hot. The room was clean with a lovely view. Food was good with plenty choice. We would return

« Really good points and really bad ones. »

Very attractive hotel - fabulous chandelier. 1st floor bedroom -not huge but nice bed - very high. Huge opening windows with lovely view of grounds - visible from the bed..but also excellent light proof blinds so you don't get woken with the dawn. Excellent dinner but synthetic-tasting strawberry cheesecake inedible. As I had requested no feather bedding of any kind (I'm sensitive to bird feather dust). But - VERY disappointingly, breakfast was terrible. Tasteless egg, mushroom, gristly tasteless sausage. Must be economising. Awful filter coffee. .. tea okay thank goodness. Hadn't realised till now how important a good breakfast is to my enjoyment in a hotel.

    « What a Find »

Just spent a truly wonderful 2 night stay, Tues/Wednesday at the Higher Trapp Country House Hotel, part of the Best Western group. From the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out we were so well looked after. All the Staff were friendly & efficient & really looked after us. This beautiful hotel situated in the Pendle Valley area of Simonstone, nr Burnley. The public rooms are magnificent in their architectural splendour such opulence and grandeur abounds. Our bedroom was spacious, modern, clean and fresh and well kept by the Housekeeping team with fabulous views towards Pendle Hill. The food; Evening meals were wonderfully presented, so tasty & satisfying along with much choice of beverages. The Breakfasts really set you up for a full day sightseeing in this picturesque area. What a fantastic choice we made in booking this Hotel. We will be back. Thank you.

« Higher trapp hotel surprise »

Booked using a voucher and was very surprised how good the hotel was for what we paid. Excellent food, attentive staff, good room, and dining room/bar nicely decorated and furnished. Would go again especially if similar deal available.

    « great stay »

Great stay with offer from woucher. Food fantastic and lovely room did pay extra for room upgrade. Only complaint would be the noisy cleaning staff in the morning outside our room. We did leave the sleeping sign on the door but seemed they did stand right outside chatting and woke us up. Other than that great stay and would visit again. Oh and maybee put fridges in the rooms

    « Phenomenal Customer service »

We had the pleasure of staying at Higher Trap in September and had an amazing experience. I would like to think of myself as a seasoned traveller having stayed in Hotels throughout the world however the customer service we experienced at HT was world class. The staff, the decorum, cleanliness, quality of food and views all get a 10/10. I would definitely come back the hotel is family friendly and is a hidden gem. TK, London

    « Fizzy Friday overnighter + dinner »

great value, good service and lovely setting we travelled over to Read after work at lunchtime on the Friday enjoying a drive round the lovely area then booked in at 4pm. Staff were really friendly at reception and the room was comfortable with everything as promised. the double bed was not really big enough for us but it was definitely double and the room overlooked the beautiful gardens. though the bar was closed until 5.30pm the reception staff brought us a wine in the lounge. We opted to have our free Prosecco with dinner. Dinner was very good with a wide choice and good presentation, the atmosphere was friendly and intimate. Breakfast was terrific as usual this a good choice and well-cooked even though perhaps there were staffing issues. Altogether great value and service - we will be booking Fizzy Fridays again !!!

Stayed for 1 night prior to a business meeting the next day. Excellent restaurant/bar with wide choice of meals on both the menu & specials board. « Two night stay »

We only stayed for 2 nights but wished that our stay had been longer. We will certainly stay in your Hotel when next we visit your interesting area. Our room (26) was separate from the main Hotel but near enough to the Hotels facilities to make no difference.

    « Great bargain break »

Lovely hotel in a great setting. Very friendly staff. Old world charm with nice garden and lawn. Some nice walks around nearby Pendle Hill. Within easy reach of Clitheroe and Whalley for shops and cafes/ restaurants.

    « Midweek break »

A well run efficient hotel. Friendly staff, excellent food and plenty of it. Lovely views from hotel window. Only drawback was potholes in the car park, not wheelchair friendly surface. The restaurant "Fitzys bar" was welcoming with atmosphere, used by locals as well as guests.

    5
« Smart hotel with excellent restaurant. »

Great location very near Pendle Hill and within easy reach of Whalley Abbey and Clitheroe Castle. The hotel has lovely gardens and a great, sunny balcony for out door dining. We stayed in The Lodge but the room was huge and very well presented. However, the best feature of the hotel was the restaurant. Breakfast was a good choice with a well prepared full English on offer. We ate two Evening meals in the restaurant and were very impressed.I had sea bass and the duck. Both were served to perfection after some requests regarding my preference for preparation! Excellent!

    5
« An excellent dinner bed & breakfast Wowcher deal »

We had a lovely night away here in room 26, which is a very large family (one single and one double bed) room, which is also dog friendly, on the ground floor in the annex, with far reaching views. For the price we couldn't fault it! The staff were friendly and dinner was very good, although we agree with another review that breakfast wasn't so great. All in all though a very pleasant experience and I wouldn't hesitate to return - it turned out to be much better than we thought it would be for the price we paid!

    « Brothers wedding »

My wife and I just returned from a 24 hour stop here. Lovely setting in a part of Lancashire we've never visited. Had a really local dish for dinner a Lancashire Rag Pudding, very filling and washed down with a lovely local beer called Pendleside!

    « Sunday stay. »

Stayed one night using a Living Social voucher which included dinner. Plenty of choice on menu and we enjoyed both the dinner and the breakfast (bacon cooked to perfection).. Our accommodation was in the Lodge which is about 100 yards downhill from the main hotel, which could be a disadvantage in poor weather. Room was clean and tidy, and staff friendly.

    « five star! »

my sister-in-law and I had a brilliant stay here recently and were amazed by the wonderful setting and the very comfortable and spacious room. I am a wheelchair user and the hotel was very accessible once we knew which entrance to use. the staff were very helpful and attentive (and it is worth remembering that Lancashire people are straight-forward and people from elsewhere can take this as being curt.) we stayed on a D.B.&B basis and were impressed by the system used. for dinner we could have anything from the menu and if it came to more than the £18 we just had to pay the difference. the food was of exceptional quality and Toby, the chef knows his trade! the portions were very generous and defeated me on a number of occasions. the menu is very varied and would suit most tastes. there is a great deal to do n the area. townley hall and gardens and the cotton mill are worth visiting as is the forge close to the hotel.

« Great value and wonderful staff. »

We often need to travel to Lancashire on business and two of our regular hotels are Northcote Manor (Michelin Star) and Mitton Hall (historical surroundings). As both these abodes were completely full on our last visit in mid-August, my wife and I decided to stay at the Best Western Higher Trapp Country House Hotel. As the b. & b. rate was so reasonable (a last-minute booking ) we weren't really expecting too much by way of luxury. However, what a pleasant surprise awaited us as we were given a complimentary upgrade to a 'Premium' room with a great view over the surrounding countryside. We decided to have dinner there which was good wholesome food but not gastronomic. Breakfast next morning was splendidly done with full English including black pudding arriving at the table in double-quick time served by exceedingly friendly and efficient staff. Well worth a visit to look at the oak-panelled walls, 'creaky' grand staircase and stained-glass windows.

    « Very tired »

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting the area on business. It's a tired looking hotel in need of investment. The rooms are OK with beautiful views however maintenance and housekeeping could be better. The main light in the bathroom didn't work and there was an empty bottle of wine left in my room. The table at breakfast could of been cleaner. The staff were all friendly.

    « Very pleasant stay »

Stayed two nights B&B using a Travelzoo offer which gave excellent value for money. Also had dinner both nights. Room was clean, a good size and in good order. All staff were helpful and pleasant at all times. Decent choice on the menu and dinner and breakfast were well cooked. Couldn't fault the place really.

« DOG FRIENDLY VENUE OR WEDDING VENUE - WHICH IS IT????! »

Booked the Higher Trapp on a voucher deal on the basis of being able to take a dog as we wanted a couple of days of walking in the local area. First impressions of the hotel were positive and when checking-in we double checked there was somewhere we could eat/drink with our dog and was told the lounge was dog friendly - great! However, what we hadn't been told was that a wedding was on that day - this ordinarily wouldn't have been a problem but for the fact that all areas except the restaurant later became a wedding zone. We had planned to have a drink in the 'dog friendly' lounge after our evening meal so the dog wouldn't be cooped up on his own all night, but when walking out of the restaurant into the lounge area (as the only exit) we realised with a shock that it had been converted to a wedding reception room, complete with buffet table to the left and guests eating and we were forced to wade through the middle of it - AWKWARD!! So it was back to the room at 9pm for us - bored.com! Was even a hassle taking the poor thing out to the toilet as all grassed areas were also in use by the wedding party and we felt bad for our dog going toilet in the middle of this event! NEVER FELT SO IN THE WAY AND AWKWARD IN MY LIFE! Oh and just because we have a dog doesn't mean we should be subjected to stained and sticky carpets! Only upside was the appearance and good quality of food.

    « Afternoon tea »

Visited the Higher Trapp with a group of friends for afternoon tea. Sandwiches were fine. Scones were nice too but then we had a large wedge of cake which was a bit too sickly for me and far to big a piece. Would have preferred a selection of smaller cakes to choose from.

    « Pleasantly Surprised »

This hotel exceeded my expectations in several areas for the money paid. We booked a 'TravelZoo' deal. Externally the building appears worn & the grounds not as attractive as I had first hoped (from prior reviews). However, internally although 'aged' it was beautiful, wood panelled walls, chandeliers, furnishings etc & with a pleasant atmosphere. We were a group of friends staying in three rooms, all overlooking the back of the hotel with no views. The rooms were on the small side but immaculate & looked like they had recently been refurbished. The bathrooms were modern but very small (in fact you couldn't get two people in there at the same time). Breakfasts & evening meals were excellent with plenty of choice. Meal prices were very reasonable. The staff were pleasant, friendly & helpful throughout . . . lovely people. I wouldn't hesitate in staying here again . . . nice experience all round.

    « An enjoyable stay »

Great place for a short stay. Very dog friendly, including sausage tray at breakfast time. Ideal for tours around Lancashire & the Trough of Bowland. Bar/Restaurant tends to have daily offers on, especially related to wines.

« Great hotel in a fanastc location. »

Loved it..Have been before and would return time and time again.Great food.Staff very friendly.Loved the whole relaxing atmosphere. There was a wediing there during our visit but it didnt affect our stay.

« Good value hotel with lovely grounds »

Basically a wedding venue hotel, the night's deal was very reasonable, with a good, large room in the annexe, which felt very private, helpful staff, a lengthy menu and well cooked food. Perfectly serviceable breakfast. Pleasant place as a base for either Pendleton trips or The Trough of Bowland.

« Peaceful and relaxing experience »

My wife and I arrived on a Sunday for a one-night break. The car park is extensive and close to the hotel. The elegance of the panelled common areas and of the staircase impressed us. Our evening meal and breakfast were most enjoyable, so much so that we stayed for lunch before leaving. As the hotel has clearly become a popular venue, it is not surprising that the catering and the staff should be so deserving of praise. Our room was spacious and attractively furnished, while it had the benefit of looking out onto the well manicured lawns attractively bordered by trees. All we could want in a very short break.

    « Surprised »

Lovely stay at this hotel. The evening meal was very good , staff efficient. Breakfast was good but staff where not as organised, it let it down just a bit. Overall enjoyable stay.We would go again if they did the same deal . Excellant value

« Its nice, but needs some work »

I think this hotel for me falls somewhere between a 3 and 4 rating. I cant say its very good, but its definitely better than average, so I think 3.5 would be a better rating. The good points first are that the grounds are stunning, and would be amazing to get married in! The bar and restaurant rooms are all really lovely too and the food and service would probably rate a 5. The only real downside and the reason for my score is the room we were in was very dated and the bed was very squeaky. It was clean, but it just needed a revamp. One final point, we had booked this trip on a Living Social Voucher. The deal stated a bottle of prossecco for two people. I did notice somebody else comment that the bottle was small before we went, but I didnt realise they meant that small! You get two very small glasses, and the bottle barely fills them both. Think it might be a bit clearer if the voucher stated small glass of prossecco!

    « A lot to be desired »

We arrived at the higher trapp and instantly fell In love with the surroundings but that was all. The hotel itself needed improvement. The rooms were of medium standard with no frills although I was impressed they had a proper hairdryer. In the bedside table drawer lay the previous guests used throat medication! I was really impressed with the range on the menu but when the food arrived the it was bland. I had the squid specially which was awfully chewy and the salmon risotto which was tasteless, the chef loves to over garlic everything! That night we thought we treat ourselves and get room service breakfast, so we rang reception and made them aware and hung our order on the door. We woke at 9;15 The next morning and there it was, the order was still hanging on the door. So we quickly rushed up to breakfast as there was 15 minutes remaining so much for a romantic breakfast! When we went up to breakfast I ordered the poached eggs on toast, to be greeted by a long white hair. The only positive I can draw from this experience is the breakfast staff are phenomenal and the blonde waitress helped me no end with finding Pendle hill and my complaints! And the dark haired waiter who directed us to a better restaurant. All in all underwhelming.

« Great location and stunning building but not good maintenance... »

Family room: carpet was too smelly, I'm afraid. And the cot provided for my baby didn't have a mattress. Had to use a folded blanket. No fridge. But....could park right outside the room, great! and breakfast was reasonably good. Stunning building and great views!!!

« BEST WESTERN for one night »

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was very good but the restaurant was a bit dark for my liking. The room was clean and had a great view over Pendle Hill. I have never seen such a high bed, but it was actually very comfortable.

« Not to be repeated »

We booked this two night break through Travelzoo. We thought we had bagged a bargain at £79 bed and breakfast for the two nights. On arrival we were allocated room 18. The furniture was low budget quality but the bathroom was well appointed. However he carpet was dirty with badly ingrained stains - we were glad we brought our slippers as some of the stains appeared a bit suspect. The window looked out on to a flat roof over the reception. Immediately in front of the window on the roof was an air-conditioning unit which was piled up with assorted rubble. Some attempt had been made in the past to decorate the roof by overlaying it with artificial grass and some big pot plants. However this has fallen into gross disrepair - the artificial lawn was rucked up by the wind and ingrained dirt and all the pot plants were dead. The roof was also littered with cigarette butts - it appeared as if previous guests had been smoking with the window open and discarded their butts on to the roof. There was no separate dining room - guests ate at tables in the bar.The evening meals were O.K. But really just pub grub at hotel restaurant prices. The breakfasts were abysmal. On the first morning I had an English grill - the fried eggs were swimming in fat, the bacon was so hard that it could have been used to tile the floor and the black pudding an ice hockey puck - glad I didn't have the sausage. On the second morning I played safe and had kippers with poached eggs. The eggs were poached perfectly but were served with half the pan of water - I had to use two pieces of toast to soak it up, and the half kipper was quite bitter. Overall, not a good experience, and one not to be repeated.

    « First class »

From the moment we arrived we were extremely happy with our choice of where to spend a night to celebrate our anniversary. Our room overlooked an air conditioning unit which we thought may be a problem during the night but it seemed to be turned off when we went to bed so it didn`t cause any lack of sleep. Apart from this unfounded worry everything was first class. The food was excellent with there being a very good choice on the menu. In fact we were spoilt for choice. Probably the best part of the stay was the friendly atmosphere and the fantastic service and attitude of the staff, who all seemed to really enjoy their work. We wouldn't hesitate to return and look forward to doing so in the not too distant future.

    « Excellent stay. »

Stayed here on Sunday with a Living Social deal. We got a twin room which had been re-furbished. The room was medium sized & had all you needed, the en suite was large & very good, The room was clean but the vacuuming was not the best. The room had super views over the lawns & valley. Our dinner was very good only let down by the slightly under cooked chunky chips, The waiting staff were superb. The breakfast was excellent.. After the meal we wanted to retire to the super lounge, only to find that it was taken over by a wedding. We did find out that they were having a BBQ on the fantastic terrace but rain spoilt it & they had to come inside, Our only gripe was that the only place for non wedding guests was the dining room. This did not really spoil our stay as we really enjoyed it. Recommended. We found every single member of the staff friendly & efficient.

« Value one night break »

Good value b+b break with dinner. The included bottle of Prosecco was only a 200ml bottle, seemed a bit miserly and took some of the gloss off the deal. That apart, nice room, good food and friendly helpful staff.

Just come back from a Travelzoo break. Fantastic value for money at a lovely hotel. Great comfortable room, good food, friendly staff. Anna at breakfast was like a breath of fresh air. Nothing was too much for any of the staff. The hotel is set in lovely grounds with well kept gardens. Bonus that cooked breakfast is waitress served.

We took up an offer with living social for bed and breakfast for two with an evening meal. The room was compact but clean (room 20) the bathroom did look a little tired though. The evening meal and breakfast was excellent- We cannot fault the food or the polite staff in the whole hotel.

« Lovely place, lovely staff »

Went here for a family members 30th birthday meal. Really nice place and set in lovely grounds. The views from the patio area are amazing. The food was really well cooked and the staff very pleasant and helpful. There are a number of rooms to chill out and have a drink and if it's a nice day sit on the patio area...stunning. Will be back again. Thank you to all the staff.

    « wonderful staff , beautiful area, »

ive just returned from a couple of nights at this hotel . i was really happy with it . the staff are some of the most friendly and helpful i have come across , even if the breakfast staff who at times were rushed off there feet , i think due to hotel being full . it is an old quaint looking building set in some beautiful gardens , well maintained i may add . the views from my room were delightful even with the dia weather conditions . i must say i will definitely return and bring my friend along too . To the manager a job well done , a pat on the back for your friendly and hard working staff i hope they get the praise they deserve, thank you all .

« Lovely hotel, beautiful grounds, friendly staff, close to Forest of Bowland »

I stayed with a friend, we were very impressed - the building is very nice and the grounds lovely. Our room overlooked the grounds and had a good view. We ate in on Sunday evening and enjoyed our meals (though possibly the vegetables were a little sparse). Breakfast was plentiful and not greasy, though we did have to wait a while before we were attended to - more staff needed at breakfast time. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We said we'd definitely go again. We did have a Living Social voucher though so I am not sure what full price accommodation would be.

« A pleasant hotel with outstanding staff »

The service we experienced throughout from the staff in this hotel was exceptionally high. In particular, Jessica in Reception made an outstanding effort to satisfactorily sort out a difficulty that we experienced, in a courteous and efficient manner. And Helen, our waitress in Fitzy's bar was delightful - friendly, thoughtful and very helpful. Our room in the Lodge was spacious and immaculately clean, the bed comfortable and with a lovely view. The food at breakfast and at dinner was tasty and there was a wide choice of dishes from which to select. Thank you to everybody for a very enjoyable stay in this hotel

« A lovely hotel in an idyllic area »

We had booked a 2 night stay at the Higher Trapp Country House and were pleasantly surprised by the area in which the hotel was. The gardens and grounds in which the hotel was were also lovely and a pleasant area to sit and have a drink or even eat evening dinner. We are going back September and we are sure we will be as pleased this next time. Our room was lovely with views over the gardens.

« Great value for very comfortable stay »

Great food, friendly helpful staff - nothing was too much trouble, comfortable clean well decorated room, lovely views and the peace and quiet was a bonus. It was a really worthwhile trip and we were able to visit Gawsworth Hall which was a short drive away, it is a National Trust property which was really interesting

« Afternoon tea through Groupon »

Very disappointed. Sandwiches were ok. Scones very hard obviously microwaved to heat/defrost for too long, inedible, had to wait awhile for someone to come out to the bar area to ask to change. The next scones were softer but tasted cheap, The 'cakes' consisted of one large slab of sponge cake each with artificial cream. Green tea was the nicest part of it. Sorry wouldn't recommend, this is the first adverse review I have written and the worst afternoon tea I have come across.

    « Wedding »

Enjoyed my stay here for a friends wedding in July. Such a lovely venue with beautiful surroundings, I can definitely see why it is a popular choice for a wedding. The staff were very friendly and offered a great service. I would definitely recommend staying here :)

    « pendle visit »

excellent stay at very welcoming and friendly hotel. good location for any first time visitor to Pendle/Trough of Bowland area. Staff were very helpful and it was dog friendly. Good value meals and drinks in very comfortable dining area.

    « Afternoon Tea »

Booked through Groupon afternoon tea, staff all very good initially welcoming and inviting. Food was below average at best, but to be honest our expectations maybe were too high? Then felt we got forgotten about, had to ask for clean plates and tea, A couple of sliced sandwiches on plates along with shop bought scones and squirty cream, disappointed to be honest. Bar area had refurb and quite nice but silly things let the place down, and no atmosphere, sandwiches soggy as clearly been made and left refrigerated, and dead insects all over window sill. Shame as if good experience would probably go again.

« Pleasant .. but lacking catering organisation »

The hotel is in a good location to visit neighbouring attractions and things to do.There appears to be plenty of parking places and the grounds though boring and lacking seasonal bloom were well maintained. A friendly receptionist booked us in but interestingly whilst two other staff in black milled about it was clearly the one person at the front who had responsibility for booking people in . Hence a wait that could have been avoided . Room 3 was well appointed but in need of a little tlc ,missing door handle and torn wallpaper. Good facilities , iron and board a reasonable hairdryer tea coffee and hot chocolate and nice toiletries. Towe was a decent size and good quality . Bed was a comfortable baby bear standard with two decent pillows each. Cupboard had a dozen hangers. View was of the back garden with a small vista. We had an evening meal . The quality of the food was average and the service needing inprovement. Staffs did not appear to be organised and reminders and waits can be expected. We were on a Living Social offer which included a meal and prosecco. The bottle of prosecco was small ( glass each). We were advised by serving staff that we could have food up to the value of £18. 95 each but when checking out a charge had been applied for one course as the deal was for two courses. The receptionist did deduct this after explanation. We enjoyed breakfast on the sunny patio. The range of options was good but you will find that service and the devil in the detail is very variable. For example my cooked breakast came before my porridge .. butter, sugar, cutlery had to be asked for and jam stand not offered. We had no complaint but there are improvements needed.

    « Country Hotel »

A nice hotel surrounded by lovely gardens, this hotel is a popular venue for weddings. On this occasion we were visiting for a rare gathering of our clan. Pleasant drinks on the outdoor terrace were enjoyed before heading into the recently refurbished restaurant area. The meal was as expected, the staff courteous but not overbearing. An enjoyable evening in pleasing surroundings. Our only gripe is that the double bed in room 14 is sagging in the middle and needs a replacement mattress if not complete new bed. Would I return? Probably.

    3
    « room with a view »

first contact friendly, room separate from main hotel, good size, roomy bathroom, bath and over bath shower. clean, well maintained. excellent views over surrounding countryside. good breakfast. evening meals were disappointing, very basic cooking, curry out of a jar is not what i excepted, but it was what i got. On a cheap deal ok, could do to employ a real chef.

    « Weekdays Stay »

We had a 2 night stay 8th & 9th August. A warm, friendly Receptionist efficiently checked us in to room 7 as we chatted - asked if we'd been before we said yes, 1969! The location is fabulous & well situated for break away from it all - but a great base for walking, resting, or visiting close by towns and attractions. Room 7 is a spacious double room, with pull out sofa bed and has attractive views to the front lawn area (used for weddings) and to the Pennines, it's quiet and peaceful with adequately facilities. Clean but a furniture move out & deeper clean / vacuuming wouldn't go amiss. The room could be enhanced by the provision of a small coffee table (to use when sitting on the sofa with a drink)! Also, a simple shelf fitted in the bathroom (in the recess behind the toilet) would be very useful as there is nowhere to place wash bags, etc. Finally regarding the room, although a small double bedded room, it could certainly benefit from, & quite easily take, a Queen bed, which would be a great enhancement - aiding a less cramped (and we're less than average sized people) & better nights sleep experience. Staff throughout the hotel are friendly, pleasant, helpful and efficient - a great asset, and particularly so in Fitzzy's bar / restaurant. We had breakfast & dinner during our stay and the food & service was excellent. In general, great value for money. Would certainly return but would try perhaps a twin or larger bedded room next time?

    3
    « pretty area. »

Nothing wrong with our stay but I found the layout of the hotel lessened the overall satisfaction. The restaurant is a dark room, "the lounge" has no windows. Our room was also an annexe across the car park and down a steep slope. Wet gear required to get to the restaurant. Staff were happy and helpful. Stay was fine for 2 nights.

    5
« Great north west location »

Two of the best nights we have spent away for some time. Well done higher trapp your staff are great and your views too hope to see you all again soon. Don't forget to eat in the restaurant it will not let you down the rag pudding is a pleasant surprise and try the pear drop ice cream , a taste sensation.

« Great place to stay. »

This is a very pleasant hotel. Staff all helpful and well trained. Beautiful setting too. Ours was a big gay wedding and everyone was so understanding and accepting and seemed to enjoy the event with us.

« The food and service really poor »

Stopped hear 2 nights the oil was fabulous and location and grounds excellent, but the food served was poor with inedible chicken on my Mediterranean platter .when I mentioned this to the staff nothing was done .My daughters breakfast came out with a dead fly on the plate. Even though this was replaced she didn't bother eating felt sick. The following day I had porridge this too was under cooked and inedible. Would not eat hear no reduction in price offered still charged full price.

    3
« Lovely setting - Not disabled friendly »

We stayed here for two nights in a disabled room - we weren't offered the option of a twin so had to share a double . The disabled rooms are separate from the hotel and are at the bottom of quite a steep hill - if you are in a wheelchair and cannot walk at all this is problematic as you have to drive your car back and forth from the main hotel building to the bedroom . The bathroom has been adapted - but still remains not so suitable for someone in a wheel chair who cannot walk . The sink / toilet are positioned in such a way that makes transferring difficult and the shower has a ridge on it - again there is no room for being able to transfer . The shower flooded the bathroom because the plug was not draining correctly - I had to use all the towels to partially mop up the water & called reception for help as my friend could not enter the bathroom while it was flooded , Two people came on two separate occasions with more towels but I had to ask 3 times for it to be mopped . When it was mopped there was no mop bucket so I'm assuming the dirty water went into the shower basin which I then had to clean afterwards . A wet room where water drains with a textured floor would be safer and more disabled friendly . I wouldn't say this hotel is suitable for someone who cannot walk - this was the only issue we found which had I of come with my partner would not have encountered . It certainly makes you realise everything that must be considered when you are in such a situation . The above aside we attended a wedding with an outdoor ceremony which was beautiful - the gardens are well maintained and it's a lovely setting . The staff were also really friendly and very helpful . The hotel is in a wonderful part of the north - very peaceful .

« Lovely hotel in great setting »

Had a wonderful 2 night stay. Staff were very helpful when we requested a quieter room. Food in the bar is very good particularly the cheese pie! Weather not too kind but given dry weather there would be plenty of places to walk.

« good value mini break »

We booked a Travel zoo 2 night B&B offer and chose the hotel because of its proximity to Pendle Hill and surrounding area. Friendly and helpful staff at Reception and in Fitzy's for dinner and breakfast. Lovely views from our first floor room in Parker's Lodge. The hotel is a popular wedding venue so very busy when we stayed. We dined at the hotel both nights and were pleased with the standard of the food. The only downside was the noise in the annexe - not because fellow guests were being particularly loud but due to the poor sound insulation between the rooms.

    4
    « Lovely overnight stay »

Spent the day walking a few miles on the Penine Way before checking in at this hotel. No complaints about anything, the room was very nice, the staff friendly and professional and evening meal excellent, smashing overnight stay in beautiful countryside. If I have anything negative to say is the scrambled eggs I had for breakfast had far too much black pepper in but that is a very small criticism that in no way spoiled a very nice stay in a very nice hotel with fantastic views. Would definately go back!

    3
    « 1 night away »

We enjoyed our stay but unfortunately we felt like we were placed in an 'out house' across the grass. When booking a night away, I did not expect to walk across the grass or up a hill in order to get a drink from the bar. Food was lovely and the staff were very attentive.

« OK, but try to get one of the uprated rooms »

Standard rooms are showing their age, try to get one of the uprated rooms. Staff are very pleasant. Restaurant is ok. My breakfast was cold, but I am sure that was a one-off aberration. Walls of rooms are very thin, expect tv and other noises. Pretty much what you would expect from a budget UK country hotel.

Stayed here for 1 night July 2016. Hotel & grounds are gorgeous! Room was clean with lovely view.. Dined in restaurant for dinne & breakfast both were delicious. Cannot thank the staff enough for being so friendly & helping to make my partners birthday special

    « Not the best. »

Overpriced for the quality. Platinum room, tired, not been dusted, dated furniture, in need of decorating, bath leaking at both ends? grotty sealing around wall/floor tiles. Looks run down from the outside, reception is depressing. Breakfast was mediocre. Only good point were the staff, all very friendly and helpful. On this and past experiences would make Best Western a last resort booking.

    « Really nice stay »

Hi I stayed 1nt on a special deal including evening meal, the hotel is nice, the views are fab and the gardens are gorgeous, the bar area and the restaurant nice and modern. The food we had was a set menu and was really nice and also the breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The hotel room we stayed in was small and the view was of a flat roof but the bed was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again. It was a nice little hotel.

Arrived at The Best Western Higher Trapp Country House Hotel must say the grounds are really nice with plenty of parking space , the staff in the reception area are really helpful . It's fine and relaxing inside The Higher Trapp Country Hotel, we were shown to our table (wich was reserved )by a member of staff, coffee was served within five minutes and the Afternoon Tea was served not long after, it arrived on a three tier cake stand ,a variety of sandwiches on the bottom, middle was the scones and cake ,top was the cream , jam, strawberries, it looked good and tasted better, really fresh and light, the veiws from the restaurant are really nice . The staff are on hand to make your visit to The Higher Trapp County Hotel as pleasant as possible, I'm sure if for some reason you had a problem they would go out of there way to rectify it. So we had comfortable surroundings, good food, good staff, very nice views of the grounds. Been to a lot of Afternoon Tea's at different places and I can honestly say that The Higher Trapp County Hotel will be making it into the top three.

We went to a friends wedding and had a fantastic stay . very well organized and good food . we were fortunate with the weather and spent a lot of time outside on the patio . staff were friendly and help full

    « Excellent stay »

Stayed here with my wife on a 2 night break through travel zoo. The room ( room 7) was large comfortable and had lovely views over the outstanding countryside. It is the staff that make this a hotel we will look forward to staying at again. Every one was friendly and efficient from check in to restaurant and bar staff as well as housekeeping. Special mention to Anne Marie who served breakfast, a really cheerful lady. Will definitely stay again and would recommend without a second thought.

    « quick trip booked thro'Travel Zoo »

excellent value for money, would certainly book again, staff couldn't have been more helpful as my husband was in a wheelchair and security was first class. The one draw back was the steep incline down to the annex but parking was adequate and easy to drive up to main hotel

Quality food and service in the restaurant. Bedroom facilities very good, although we could hear the person next door snoring? Good location to visit the Pendlet witches and the Bronte sisters at Haworth

    « Very pleasant stay »

I stayed here with a friend for two nights last week (Travelzoo deal). The hotel is in a very pleasant location with all the amenities required. Yes, it's a bit 'tired' decoratively, especially the dining/bar area. Had one meal and it was fine, not excellent but good, if limited. Our room was spacious and we particularly valued the large en suite. What distinguishes the hotel, however, is the great service from all staff, who were only too eager to please in every respect, from supplying a fan (it was very hot!) and helping with walks etc in the area. I would return for a short break and would recommend it to others. Thank you to all!

    « Excellent break »

We had a 2 night break booked at this hotel. Unfortunately we had to leave after one night as my husband received a phone call to say that he had to go int hospital the next day for some planned major surgery. The staff were kindness itself. We hope to return when my husband is fit again.

I absolutely loved my stay here. I came with my sister who was getting married and we both fully enjoyed our two night stay here. I will definitely be returning! Must recommend the rag pudding in the restaurant :)

    « Wedding »

2 nights stay for a wedding. Very impressed with the hotels upkeep and service. This has been the best hotel in the area for as long as I can remember. Thus hasn't changed. Excellent food & a good wine list. Fantastic gardens added to this venue's ability to cater for a wedding.

    « A lovely evening »

Great food and extremely pleasant service. As I was currently on crutches, I was given a downstairs room which had a walk in shower area. This was particularly useful for me, with my current situation. The room was extremely clean, and facilities were excellent.

    « Great hotel »

Stayed one night last night with friends. Booked through Living Social after reading good reviews on the hotel. Was not disappointed! Great loacation, lovely rooms with wifi. The garden was beautiful and we took some great pics in the pagoda. There was a wedding on and what a lovely place to have a wedding. The dinner was included and had such a varied choice and was delicious. Breakfast was even better with everything you could want for any tastes and was hot! Would definitely recommend this hotel. Lots of places to visit in the area too.

    « Excellent stay »

Stay here recently after getting a good deal for room. Hotel is set in a rural location, overlooking a valley. Room was basic, bed, table, chair tv and bathroom but very well maintained and clean. Views fromantic our room (22) were stunning right across the valley. The hotel itself has some lovely grounds to walk around and the gardens are kept neat and tidy. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast was buffet style although you ordered any hot food which was cooked fresh. All the usual stuff, cereals, fruit, pastries etc. The hot food was excellent and the service was excellent as well. Can't comment on the evening meals as we didnt eat there but if breakfast was anything to go by they would have been good. Overall a very pleasant stay in a quiet out of the way hotel. If you want a relaxing time this is the place. As always this is only my personal opinion, yours may be completely different.

    « Splendid 3 night break »

What a surprise to enter our large bedroom with such a lovely view over the well manicured garden and distant scenery. All the staff which we came in contact with, were so pleasant and helpful - nothing seemed to be of any bother to them! Meals were very good and food freshly cooked .The cooked part of breakfast on one morning ? but may have been due to being very busy at the one time. Another visit will be on the cards!!

« Away from it all in style »

Excellent situation _ a perfect hideaway for a short break. Friendly staff and good quality dining. The deal through Travel Zoo enabled us to sample the hotel and the Higher Trapp convinced us that we would return.

    « Family visit »

The hotel is really nice and location/grounds excellent the only reservation is the size of the rooms and bed was only a standard double. The restaurant menu is not outstandingly brilliant but more than adequate but the service throughout the hotel and the standard of breakfast more than made up for that. Likely as we have family in the area that we would stay here again.

    « Excellent stay »

We stayed for one night at this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We cycled over and the staff were very helpful in providing secure storage for our bikes. Our room was clean and tidy. We had both our evening meal and breakfast at the hotel. The food was of a good standard and again the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely use this hotel again.

    « BEAUTIFUL & QUIET LOCATION.....ROOM LESS SUCCESFUL »

The Higher Trapp Hotel is set in a lovely rural location, a few miles north east of Simonstone. It is set on a hillside overlooking landscaped gardens which are surrounded by a curtain of trees. A very pleasant little spot. It has a terrace at the back which overlooks the lower level lawn and gardens where there is an open sided wedding pavilion which is used for weddings when the weather permits. The terrace is sunny and a quite lovely place to while away an hour or two taking in the views and relaxing. My wife and I stayed on a Travelzoo deal which was very cheap at £79 for two people for two nights bed and breakfast. We stayed in the main building in room 17 whilst there was a wedding on but we were not disturbed by it. I have highlighted the pros and cons that we found during our stay, but I have had regard for the price we paid when giving the hotel four stars. Positives :- 1. The staff, especially in the restaurant, were very pleasant and were a credit to the hotel. 2. Fitzy's bar and restaurant is a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and an evening meal with views across the gardens. 3. The Terrace and Gardens are lovely. 4. This is a popular wedding venue and it is easy to see why. Negatives :- 1. Room 17 was very small with views of a large flat roof and trees at the front of the hotel. 2. Breakfast on day 1 was dried up and parts were inedible.... a new chef apparently. On day 2 the breakfast was different again...lovely. 3. One hand towel and one bath towel is not adequate for two guests. Additional towels and flannels requested, only towels arrived. 4. They have been building a large equestrian centre above the main car park with machines working on site. Noisy during the day if you are sat out or have your bedroom window open. 5. Not sure that housekeeping should jam fire doors open with towels each day. Room 2* Breakfast 3* Evening Meal 4* Value for money 4*

« A good hotel, set in attractive grounds with plenty of free parking. »

A good hotel, set in attractive grounds with plenty of free parking. Situated on the lower slopes of the Pendle Hill area it looks across a valley towards Burnley and the hills beyond. It is very well run, has pleasant and hospitable staff, provides a first class breakfast and vey good evening dinner. We were in the Keepers Lodge block of rooms remote from the main building. There was no excessive noise and we retired early on both nights we were there and slept well until morning. The view from our window over North of England countryside was an amazing and a constant pleasure.

« Business Trip to the Ribble Valley »

A value for money travellers hotel with spectacular views over the Ribble Valley. Parking is extensive and the rooms are satisfactory. I stayed in a room in the separate annex, which I believe are regarded as "standard". The bed was large, the TV small and the bathroom adequate with shower and bath. The room was clean and airy with extensive views across the valley (Rm 29 on the first floor) The bar has a decent range of drinks including draught beers which is quite rare in a hotel and the menu was varied and covered a lot of price options (recommend Roast Beef etc.. around £12) As a Diamond Best Western member there are certain options available that were not offered, but the receptionist didn't offer them - I don't blame her - rather her training. Would I stay here again - yes This hotel is part of the Lavender Hotel Group and I have stayed in several now - some larger - some smaller, but the staff could learn a lot from the attitudes of the staff in the Old Mill Hotel in Ramsbottom, which though more basic has really good staff and is quite nearby as an alternative

« very good service nice hotel »

Very nice food in a hill top location with the very best staff to look after you. The staff could not do enough for you and the rooms are not bad as well. The Food is good and which is a good job as there is nothing else arround. I will stay here when in the area.

« Fantastic wedding day - thank you so much! »

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Higher Trapp on Saturday 16th April 2016. We booked a year and a half in advance and the Assistant Manager, Katie helped us with the planning and other details. She was always there to answer any of our queries and offered lots of support and advice in the lead up to our big day. I stayed at the Higher Trapp the night before the wedding with my mum. The customer service given throughout the weekend was absolutely outstanding. Katie telephoned me just before she finished her shift (early Friday evening) and let me know who to get in touch with if my family needed anything at all. This was a really lovely gesture, which I appreciated greatly. The rest of the team throughout the weekend were absolutely fantastic - nothing was too much trouble. A special mention to Jessica on reception, who was very friendly and bubbly. She kept me (the Bride) smiling and calm the night before the wedding! Our wedding day was absolutely perfect. The room where we had our wedding breakfast with our guests was set out beautifully by Katie, Jamie and the rest of the team. They really took on board our wishes for a traditional / vintagey English theme. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the venue looked and the high level of customer service provided provided by the team. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone was well catered for (including children and vegetarians). I nipped to the toilet part way though the meal. Upon my return, the rest of the top table had been served their main course. Very kindly, the team had waited for me return before serving my meal, so that it wouldn't get cold. A kind gesture. Our evening reception was also a very big hit with our guests. The DJ, Ryan was excellent. He telephoned us a few days before the wedding to discuss the music that we wanted. Again, nothing was too much trouble, despite my husband and I having very different tastes (!!) Ryan's Dj-ing was extremely popular with our guests and the dance floor was busy all night with guests young and old. Thank you Ryan! Many of our guests travelled from various parts of the country, as well as France and Australia, so the majority of the hotel was booked up with our family and friends. Everyone loved the rooms and breakfast provided in the morning. My Husband and I had the new Honeymoon Suite. It was beautifully decorated and had stunning views of the hotel's grounds and the surrounding countryside. A great start to married life! The icing on the cake was a card and a bottle of champagne for my husband and I when we checked out of the hotel at lunchtime. A lovely touch! Five stars aren't enough! I cannot thank Katie, Jamie and the team enough. The service provided from the moment I arrived on the Friday, to the moment our family left on the Sunday was incredible. We were really made to feel part of the Higher Trapp family and have such wonderful memories of our special day. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Higher Trapp again.... Hopefully in the Honeymoon Suite! Many thanks again to Katie, Jamie and the rest of the team. Mr & Mrs Barnes

« Excellent value, via voucher offer »

We stayed in the separate Parkers Lodge, which was down a steep slope from the main building - quite a challenge in the heavy rain we experienced. The room was fine: comfortable bed, strong shower, reasonable sized television, pleasant decor and furnishings, especially the leather armchair. However, sound insulation was appalling. I would not stay in the Lodge again, because of this. The areas of the main hotel we saw seemed fine. We took advantage of a voucher offer, which made the 3-night break, including one dinner, a fabulous bargain. Another however.... the standard of food was inconsistent; both our dinners were delicious, but breakfast sausages were rather tasteless and scrambled eggs were dry and bland. Also, breakfast was served from 06:30 to 09:30. I think 10:00 would be a better cut off time for people enjoying a break. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, apart from the housekeeping staff who walked in without knocking even though we had put the "Do not disturb" sign outside the door. The countryside around the nearby Forest of Bowland is outstandingly beautiful, especially the eastern area.

    « Hoping to return »

This was a travelzoo offer. We upgraded and were given one of the bridal suites, a lovely room with a view over the gardens and a 4 poster bed! The staff were all very friendly and the food was delicious. We felt that it was indeed, "a bargain break" and hope to return.

« Great time -- the staff are very friendly as was everyone we met in the area »

The hotel is minutes away from a walk up Pendle Hill (don't be deceived by the name it's only 170 feet short of being a mountain) the local pub The White Hart is lovely as is the bar at the hotel itself, the staff were all pleasant and helpful and we had a thoroughly great relaxing time -- they are dog friendly (however they don't allow you to bring your dog into the bar/restaurant, they will set a table up for you in the adjoining Oak Room lounge though)

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at this hotel, staff friendly and helpful at all times. Location excellent within easy reach of most attractions. Accommodation large, ensuite with good strong shower over bath. Lovely relaxing atmosphere in lounge area which had a large screen tv for those football enthusiasts. Food excellent and varied menu, I required gluten free diet which was accommodated without any problems. Breakfast once again made to order which ensured food fresh and tasty

« Be very careful of hotel food standard »

We booked this hotel via wowcher and here is exact copy of my email due to completely unsatisfactory food - As you will see from your records Order Number XXXXXXX was for "An overnight stay for two people at the Best Western Higher Trapp Country House Hotel Lancashire including dinner, a bottle of Prosecco and breakfast" - cost £70 We booked to arrive at 2pm Sunday 3rd July and to depart 4th July 2016 and at an additional cost of £10 for Sunday night we took our dog We arrived on time to be told that we had to book a table for evening meal as "we are very busy" - the table was booked for 7 pm We arrived on time and were shown to our table - 1 other table was occupied We asked the restaurant staff for our bottle of Prosecco to be told that we were not entitled to a bottle but ONLY 2 glasses, we spoke with hotel management to clarify but they were also adamant that "a bottle of Prosecco" was not on offer - I showed the wowcher clearly stating a bottle - but the hotel was adamant only 2 glasses!!! When the meals arrived one of them was not as per the menu - the menu stated "breast of chicken" what arrived was, as explained by hotel management, a "French Chicken Breast" which is a thigh knuckle and leg??? - Neither of us could quite understand that - a chicken breast is, after all a chicken breast not a thigh knuckle or leg? neither of us had heard of a French Chicken breast Both meals were "swimming" in grease and everything on each plate had been micro waved - the plate itself was almost glowing red! Both meals were removed from our table on our insistence and we asked for the "French chicken breast complete with knuckle & bones" to be changed to sliced beef dish - this was acknowledged by hotel management and the waiter   Not 5 minutes had elapsed when 2 plates were brought back to our table - 1 beef, 1 chicken dish - without bones - bones having been removed? The dish was sent back We waited some 10 minutes for the correct meals - hence micro wave, to arrive - again the dishes were swimming in grease and the plates themselves almost glowing red We tried to eat the meals however due to taste and presentation we both left a vast majority of the meal, deciding instead to jump in the car and head into the nearby town to obtain an edible meal The restaurant had perhaps 10 tables occupied by now and before we left the restaurant we noticed we were not the only clients to send meals back to the kitchen  At breakfast in the morning - my plate was swimming in vinegar - my wife's poached eggs for whatever reason having been cooked in the vinegar and not drained, the remaining contents of my breakfast and that of mine were over cooked and basically "frazzled" - since when are poached eggs cooked in vinegar? - waiter couldn't understand either! The first pot of tea (taken black) and cups were returned to the waiter as they stunk of what can only be described as TCP! both the tea itself and the cups Even both of the waiters pulled a funny face / nose when I asked them to smell the tea and crockery!! The 2nd pot of tea and the new crockery was exactly the same - we asked to speak to the duty manager as breakfast was not a success  Both the head chef and duty manager arrived, we discussed both the standard of the evening meal and of breakfast and what was said was astonishing  The reason for the meals being as bad as they were in the evening was given as "we have new chefs and they can't speak or understand English" - absolute unbelievable! - never mind not being able to speak English they can't cook! The reason for the crockery smelling was given a water fault or cleaning machine fault? Without asking for any refund or discount the duty manager removed the cost of the bread "we had" with the evening meal (£2.50) and 2 glasses of wine that we bought (£13.45) separately due to not giving us the advertised bottle of Prosecco It was explained by management the food part of the cost of the stay was £12 per guest So I then asked for a refund of the money paid for the actual food cost during stay (£24) - due to the fact that we had not had a meal / breakfast worthy of anything - the answer was a resounding NO - take it up with wowcher was the managers response We have since arriving home - wowcher contacted hotel on our behalf but the hotel has refused any refund as we actually visited the hotel ? don't quite understand that The hotel itself is in a pleasant situation, the rooms / bathrooms are dated but comfortable Management themselves told us that this, dated rooms etc, is the case as the owner is neglecting this particular hotel in favour of a more money making hotel also in her ownership - this is an independent hotel (Lavender) and is not owned by or actually run by Best Western so I was informed by the duty manager!

    « Nice hotel »

On arrival our room in the lodge wasn't quite ready so we were served complimentary coffee in the lounge while we waited. Our room was fine, it was clean with comfortable bed. Dinner that evening was lovely. The portions are very generous, I had the pate to start which was excellent but would have served two people. My partner happy to help out with that one! He had the salad which was also huge . Main courses of Salmon and Chicken both very nice. Served by very pleasant staff. Breakfast next morning was good with and excellent choice. Highly recommend this hotel. Thank you.

We stayed for 4 days recently to explore the Hebden Bridge area of the country. We found this hotel to be extremely friendly and helpful especially when requesting directions. Nothing was too much bother. The service in the restaurant and the quality of the food was excellent and we would certainly recommend this to our friends.

    « Very Inconsistent »

Stayed on a travel zoo deal. Our room was separate from the main hotel across a car park which was not ideal in the rain ! The !lodge" rooms had great views but it was where they put guests with dogs and we were kept awake with barking etc. We were not made aware of this at anytime either before or during the stay by anyone from the hotel. The dining experience on the first night was shambolic and we would have eaten out on the second night had there been an alternative locally. As it was we dined at the hotel once again and the experience could not have been different. From start to finish we were treated as valued guests and the food was so so different from the first night in every way imaginable. Stay here if you want a cheap no frills service but be aware the food service and standard is very hit and miss. It ranges from the absolutely delicious to the downright disgusting and the service is the same. A nice hotel with friendly and professional receptionists spoiled by inconsistent restaurant and kitchen staff. You have been warned !

    « Wonderful position »

I would have given higher ratings for this friendly and efficient hotel except for the fact we were in an annex, which was quite a steep walk up to the main hotel. Ok in fine weather but it was raining quite heavily when we went to get our evening meal. Speaking of which the food was really good, portions slightly large for me, and an excellent breakfast, with lots to choose from. Again good portions with the cooked breakfast. Staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel is full of character and is a lovely position, there is lots to do and see around the area too, pretty villages, well worth exploring.

Can't fault it, staff very friendly and efficient, food excellent, bar prices reasonable. Room was spacious and clean, lovely gardens. Very scenic area Ribble Valley and Pendle Hill. Went on a Woucher break great bargain. Would definitely recommend. The only fault we could come up with was the book with the hotel info in (meal times etc) was in the drawer not on the unit top!

    « Sadly,paper napkins ! »

Stayed here overnight in early July, and in spite of the headline to this hotel we were very pleased with our stay. This must be one of the smallestsmallest venues on the Best Western advertising franchise, but having stayed at several B.W over the past couple of years we were extremely happy with this venue.Starting off with the pre-stay phone call to book dinner and the bright reaction by the receptionist when we arrived. Our room was in the first floor (5) and was very well supplied with all the requirements we have come to expect for a short stay for a booking via TravelZoo A large room with 2 very comfortable leather arm chairs and an enormous window overlooking the front lawns.Dinner was very good with a fairly large menu and everything we ordered was well cooked and efficiently served by the young waiters on duty.(pity about the paper napkins,! Prosecco in the loung then off to our Four poster . Breakfast was well prepared and well served again--a mix of self service for serials etc,but properly served cooked breakfast again with good presentation by the young waiters. We were quite happy to get butter in a small pot rather than the sometimes messy paper packets .Allthough the dining room did get quiet busy there was no attempt to mask the sound by the often unnecessary 'musac' as so many venues seem to want to do! After breakfast plenty of time to sit outside in the pleasant warm morning and spend time watching and listening to birds and take some more photographs. All in all an excellent stay. (Pity about the paper napkins!!)

    « A Highly Recommended Country Hotel »

This was our second stay at Higher Trapp and we were pleased to see that the high standards experienced at our first visit were still in evidence this time. Our room was comfortable and clean (it looked to have been recently decorated). The restaurant was first class - a wide choice of dishes for both breakfast and dinner, very well prepared and presented. Throughout our stay all the staff were friendly and clearly anxious to ensure that we were well looked after. Will return again the next time we are in the area.

    « "Deal of the week " »

Having just returned from a Travel zoo special deal ( worth every penny ) we must start with Jessica the receptionist she is so helpful and with a great bubbly nature to go with it nothing was a problem ,Well done Jessica . the hotel itself is an ideal place for a quiet and peaceful stay, with great grounds and fantastic views. The room we had (number 7) situated in the main building with views over the garden was nice and roomy with great comfortable bed and pillows, both bath and separate power shower .Breakfast was first class with a great choice of both continental and cooked breakfast, we ate in the restaurant of the hotel "fitzys" as it is called good selection of food including daily specials board. All in all our family group of four enjoyed our stay at Higher trap hotel and would definetly return ( hopefully without the rain) only one downside to the hotel was the lack of history about such an old and fascinating building, I did see a small photo with a brief paragraph about the owner on the reception desk but surely could be researched a little further.

    « Wedding Perfection »

We have just returned from our wedding at the Higher Trapp hotel on 23.06.16. The biggest day of our lives couldn't have been any more perfect thanks to the absolutely brilliant staff at the Higher Trapp. The staff at this hotel really know how to organise and execute the most stunning event at the most perfect location. I cannot thank Jamie and EVERYBODY who works at The Higher Trapp enough, for just how fantastic they are and how truly special they made our day. From the moment we booked, to the preparations and the ultra smooth running of the day, we could tell we were in good hands. The venue is a stunning building in a very picturesque location within the hills and even if your not booking a wedding here and only staying a night you will be blown away by this hotel. Jamie - thank you to you and staff for everything you did to make our day the best ever.

Booked this hotel on a deal and have to say was very impressed . Whilst it is an old Country House style hotel so seems dated in certain areas , the room we had was perfectly refurbished and overlooked beautiful gardens. The receptionist Jessica is extremely helpful and bright a credit to the hotel

The hotel was better than expected. We had a large, comfortable, quiet room. The hotel was set it beautiful landscaped gardens in a beautiful rural area. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.

« Practically perfect in every way »

I used to be a regular visitor but had not stayed for over a year. How delightful to find that not only are the staff still as friendly, efficient and welcoming but they have also had a redecoration in many areas. The lounge/restaurant has been refurbished and brought up to date, carpets throughout too. I was lucky enough to stay in a recently decorated room which is to become the honeymoon suite (Rm8) while the original is refurbished; WOW is the instant reaction when you open the door. It has always been a lovely room as the bay window gives it some of the best views and it is very spacious but it is now very stylish indeed. I had a smashing seafood pasta dinner which was excellent too. Really pleased to see this lovely hotel is now even better. I look forward to coming back soon.

Stayed with a group of friends for one night on a Living social deal (or should that be steal). On arrival was informed by the very helpful receptionist that a wedding was taking place and it could be noisier later on. Because of this we were offered a room in either the hotel or the annex - we decided on the hotel and was allocated a pleasant room with (shower, tea/coffee biscuits, TV, comfy bed although this did creak and make a noise when you turned over) away from any noise. The food was delicious and was served by courteous helpful staff. Hot and cold buffet breakfast so anyone going hungry must have some kind of eating disorder. As stated this offer was a steal made even better with the wonderful staff.

« Our amazing wedding at Higher Trapp »

We got married at higher trapp on 11.06.16, I would recommend getting married at Higher Trapp to anyone the service help support was faultless from start to finish, Donna and Jamie wedding Co ordinators were fantastic nothing was too much trouble from the minute I booked the wedding to end the end of the big day they were there for us...23 rooms were booked by our guests no one was disappointed service was excellent breakfast was lovely really nice choice of food, the thing that stood out though was staff could not do enough for guests, one of our guests was disabled staying in Parker lodge staff assisted her to her room with care and next morning helped her back for breakfast, lovely hotel excellent staff cannot thank them Enough!

    « Evening wedding do »

Grounds are lovely so ideal for a wedding. Went were attending an evening wedding do. Service very, very slow on the bar but not too expensive. Small dance floor but adequate. Buffet food was excellent. Toilets olde worlds but clean, neat, tidy and serviceable. Needed more chairs outside as it was such a lovely evening ??

    « The Highest Praise »

We have just returned from an overnight stay and Dinner at the Higher Trapp and I cannot praise it highly enough. The location is delightful with views across the valley and in a good position to explore the lovely countryside in all directions. Our room was clean and comfortable, the evening meal delicious, breakfast had a wide choice of both hot and cold options, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the lounge and bar welcoming. Service was rather slow in the evening (due, I believe, to staff sickness) for which the staff apologised, but nobody minded, as watching the birds swooping over the lovely garden whilst sitting on the Terrace meant that nobody was in a hurry to move and the food was worth waiting for. My only complaint is that our stay wasn't longer.

Staff not interested in serving in restaurant morning or evening, had evening meal after 2 hours no one had come over to see if we would like desert, we could have left without paying and they would not have noticed.

    « Amazing Wedding »

We had our wedding here on 27th May, the whole day was amazing from start to finish. We opted to get married outside in the beautiful gardens and didn't regret the decision. All the staff were incredible and nearly all our guests commented on the professionalism and friendliness of them. From the initial booking process done through Donna to the actual day ran by Katie and Jamie it all went smoothly and without fault. If you are thinking about booking your wedding here then don't hesitate, it truly was our perfect day.

    « Excellent Wedding Day »

We recently got married at the Higher Trapp. I'm happy to say that the day was excellent thanks to the staff at the Higher Trapp. Thanks go to Donna the wedding planner for all of her input in the build up to the wedding. In the build up to the wedding we had several concerns that we addressed with Donna and the management at the hotel and I'm happy to say that all of our concerns were resolved. The food on the wedding day was excellent, the layout of the room was lovely and the gardens looked great which enabled us to get some lovely photos. The only negative would have to be the bar prices, although this seems to be 'the norm' when at weddings in hotels. The hotel itself has great character. Not eveything is perfect and some things may require slight improvement but this all adds to the charm of the place. My tip would have to be that if you aren't happy about something, let the staff know and I'm sure they will do their best to resolving your problem. Special thanks again to Donna, Katie and all of the staff who made our special day fantastic.

We had our wedding here on the 23rd of April and can't fault anything. The day ran like clockwork thanks to Jamie and the team. Food faultless, can recommend the hog roast for the evening do (on the terrace if weather permits or in the oak room if the weather is bad). The new bridal suite has been tastefully renovated and the grounds beautiful for the pictures (see below) Competively priced compared to similar venues in the area (ie ribble valley). Big thumbs up

    « Nice country hotel »

In the middle of nowhere and with fantastic grounds. All of the staff were great as was breakfast. The only reason we haven't given this a score of 5 was the bedroom - weak shower, very uncomfortable camp-bed for my youngest, none of the lamps worked and the dark blue carpet made the room feel really dark and dingy.

    5
    « Wow wedding »

We got married here and we cannot thank the team enough. We had the most amazing day and was treated like royalty. Donna and Jamie was always on hand to ask any random questions we had on the run up to the big day and made sure everything ran smoothly. Unfortunately the weather on the day was horrendous and never let up raining however that didn't stop us with the hotel having many big golfing umbrellas to shelter us. The food was outstanding and most of our guessed comment on this so much so I'm booking my Christmas party with them. Their resident dj was outstanding getting everyone up on their feet. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Thanks again Jamie, donna and team x

We got married here in May. The weather was amazing and opted to have the wedding outside. The whole grounds are so well kept. We had 50 day guests and the staff were incredible. Must say a massive thank you to Katie who managed our day from morning to night and made it so special. My family and friends have all passed comment on how professional you were throughout. Couldn't recommend this venue enough. The bridal suite, which we were told was new was really nice and offered great views over the gardens and hillsides. Breakfast in bed was a nice touch.

    « Amazing wedding venue »

We got married here on Saturday and we couldn't have wished for a better venue. From start to finish the day went perfectly and that was mostly down to the excellent staff. The weather was beautiful so we got married outside in the pagoda and all our guests said it was the best wedding they had been to. We would like to say a massive thank you to Katie our wedding coordinator...she really looked after us and it is mostly because of her our day went so smoothly. I could just relax knowing she was looking after our every need. We would also like to thank the rest of the staff from the lady looking after us in fitz's bar....she was solo friendly and also Luke the barman...what a lovely lad. Thank you Higher Trapp for making our special day one we will cherish for the rest of our lives Xxxxxx

    « Could do better »

Stayed here for 2 days in Parkers lodge, the room was large, bathroom was well equipped but the shower did not work I reported it and was fixed the next day we were given a £15 discount for the inconvenience the rooms should be checked after guests leave and problems sorted before letting out again. The pillows do need replacing as they were lumpy and left me with a very sore neck. We had dinner in Fitzys bar the first night food ok nothing special could do better! Sheila the matre de was lovely and tried to make sure everything was right or put right. Breakfast was a little disappointing I asked for porridge instead of cereal my partners was asked if he wanted a cooked breakfast he asked for full English,I was not offered any other options I had to wait for my porridge, this was brought with his cooked breakfast. The hotel is set in lovely grounds well maintained.

    « Romantic weekend away »

Stayed for two nights. Beautiful location, clean rooms and friendly staff. We are in the restaurant on the first night. Steak and lamb, both where beautiful, especially the lamb. There was a fantastic choice at breakfast. On one of the nights there was a wedding on and although the music could be heard it was so pretty seeing the couple and it made a beautiful wedding venue, the weather was nice so they got married outside. (Was handy to start the marriage conversation with the other half) we will definitely return. Enjoyed walking and costing the local villages

Have just stayed overnight in the Lodge at the hotel. The room was clean and nicely presented. There was a shower over the bath and lovely white fluffy towels. The bed was a double and comfortable but the quilt was on the heavy side. We took our small dog with us and with staying in the Lodge we were right next to the gardens for walking. Staff in reception very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was ok with cereals, fruit and pastries we're help yourself, the cooked breakfast was ordered from the waiter. All the food was hot and cooked ok but nothing special. The wedding was lovely and a good time was had by all.

    « Wowcher Deal »

We were placed in the little outbuilding as there was a wedding on in the main building and the hotel thought it may get too noisy for us. The outhouse was adorable and felt like a little home. However I was not impressed with how dirty the carpets were, they looked to be stained. But everything else was okay with the room. We didn't get chance to explore the main building as the wedding party occupied pretty much every room and we didn't feel comfortable sitting in the lounge where cameras were set up etc. This was not a major issue for us. Breakfast was lovely, however the main meal we had on our first night was not up to standard, but we were on the "wowcher" deal menu and can only hope the normal menu was not as bad as this. The hotel looked lovely for a wedding venue but I would not pick to stay here again.

« Lovely place, lovely staff »

Stayed here recently for a family wedding, have to say was very impressed with the place. Rooms were spacious clean and comfortable with a nice decor and was a very reasonable rate. The hotel itself is set in nice gardens and we were blessed with good weather which always helps. The main plus for this hotel though are the staff, all the staff were very pleasant and well mannered, the bar staff were very efficient and really gave service with a smile and the reception staff are a good advert for the hotel when you first check in. All in all a very pleasant experience staying here and would not hesitate to recommend.

    « Happy to return! »

We had stayed here last year whilst on our annual visit to the UK and had no hesitation in booking a night when visiting friends this year. The hotel is easy to find bring well signposted from the main road but be warned if you are arriving at school finishing time, it can be quite a challenge negotiating the road near the school! On arrival, we were told we had been upgraded to a platinum room ( thank you!) which was absolutely wonderful! The room had splendid views and had recently been refurbished to a very high standard. There was an ample supply of tea/coffee/soft drinks and water and a modern four poster type bed. If there was an annual award for the most comfortable hotel bed, then the Higher Trapp would surely win first prize! The only criticism of the room was a faulty shower - it seemed impossible to adjust the temperature so the water was extremely hot. We did report this so hopefully this has now been rectified. Breakfast was very good. We commented last time about the lovely lady in the restaurant and were very pleased to find she is still there. We have stayed in some hotels where restaurant staff make you feel as if you're intruding but it's the absolute opposite here. It was cold and frosty outside on the morning we were there but her warm friendly greeting made it seem like a warm summers day! The hotel is conveniently situated only a few miles from the motorway and within easy reach of the wonderful countryside of the Ribble Valley. There is ample car parking and check in/check out was friendly and efficient. We would certainly stay here again if in the area.

    « Lunch Disaster »

Two weeks ago I had the misfortune to have a meal (lunch) here. A meal, did I say? In fact it was an INEDIBLE MUSH called Lancashire Rag Pudding. No, I didn't complain at the time. I was with friends and so didn't feel like spoiling the ambience of our lunch together.Needless to say, I will not be spending my hard earned money at this hostelry in the future.

very small room with pine dresser and wardrobe/worn sheets and pillowcases - needs work. Rest of the hotel seemed ok and the staff were very friendly. « Friend's wedding »

Arrived very late Thursday evening for wedding on the following day. Reception staff, bar and night staff made us feel welcome immediately. Room was lovely with a really comfortable bed... a welcome treat after a 4 hour drive! Breakfast on both days in Fitzy's was delicious and the staff were great. So, to the wedding itself..... Well what can I say apart from superb! The wedding took place in the gazebo on the lawn and was just beautiful. Every detail from the organisation of pimms on the terrace through to the totally delicious food for the wedding breakfast, through to the evening entertainment was faultless from our point of view. Service was great and almost nothing was too much trouble. Would sincerely recommend you try out the Higher Trapp. I have a feeling we might be back soon with our pooch .... Did I mention they accept dogs too! for a break.

« Comfortable stay in elegant hotel »

What a wonderful location, helped by the beautiful English mid Spring day. Lovely old manor house, modernised tastefully. The superior room lived up to it's name, the only complaint being the shower not regulating correctly. Internet on my phone was fine, not so good on my company laptop. Bed was firm and comfortable, there was a large screen TV and lovely complimentary treats: still and sparkling water, orange and lemon flavoured waters, chocolate cookies and sachets of "real" coffee to use in a cafeteria. View from the large windows was stunning. The lounge bar provided lovely food and a decent selection of drinks, including real ale - although I did not sample that on this occasion. Staff were friendly and welcoming, I'd love to go back here on a leisure trip.

« business one night stay »

The chef and waitress who serve breakfast are hilarious!! Very friendly, nothing was too much trouble, 2 lovely ladies whom made me change my rating from 3 -4 stars. The hotel is a bit out of the way but the food was excellent and the views are marvellous. Not a lot to entertain mid week though - couldn't actually get the football on the TV in the lounge area despite the waiters best efforts. A place like this needs that sort of thing, not a want, a necessity. Very good for a one night stay.

Arrived saturday for our daughters wedding the following day. Dined in fitzys restaurant with family saturday evening with both staff and food very good. Early breakfast sunday morning as hair and makeup had to be done. Sandwiches ordered for lunch time which were a variable selection served in our room. Wedding ceremony over the staff couldnt of been more attentive. Food served piping hot to everyone. Nicely presented and delicious.would highly recommend as a superb wedding venue. Thankyou to all concerned. You all deserve a feather in your cap.

    « Following up a recommendation »

We decided to give Fitzys restaurant a try after our daughter had recommended it. We went at lunchtime during the week and were pleasantly surprised to find they offer 2 for 1 on certain choices from the menu. We both opted for the fish and chips and were treated to a nicely cooked piece of fish with home cooked chips and mushy peas. Not keen on the platters which made it difficult to cut the fish. Beer was good and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Disappointed that they had run out of the creme brulee so did not try a sweet. Very good value for money lunch in pleasant surroundings.

    4
    « Stunning location »

Lovely location with views across the valley. We dined in the restaurant and sat by the window. Good choice of beer and wines. Very good menu. Good service with very pleasant waiting staff. Only minor criticism was that home-made chips were not cooked. The room was fine. However, it was cold (used hair dryer to warm it up!) and we were above the wedding party so it was noisy til late. Also, wedding guests made no attempt to return to rooms quietly - they seemed to enjoy shouting down the corridors.

« First time in Fitzys refurbished bar »

Wow what a transformation tired old Fitzys looking fab, this is what some other local restaurants should be doing. My husband and I had a lovely relaxing evening meal superb staff nothing too much trouble despite being busy. And the added bonus a voucher for 10% off. How about that becoming a regular feature! Well done.

    « Tired »

This hotel is fine for a short stay - for one night it was fine but I wouldn't like to be there much longer! We had a double room, which although very dated was comfortable enough. It was very tiny - once the ironing board was up there wasn't really space for two of us in there. However; it does have everything you need including a small desk, wardrobe, hairdryer and iron + board. The bathroom was equally tiny - almost had to step over the loo to get into the shower; however the pressure wasn't bad at all once I was in! My only real complaint other than the room size was the bed itself. The mattress had clearly seen better days - it was very old, and the springs clunked every time one of us rolled over - not particularly comfortable nor conducive to a good night's sleep. Breakfast was fine with a good selection and reasonable value at £10.

« Wedding at the Higher Trapp »

Just returned from a lovely family wedding at The Higher Trapp Hotel. Beautiful gardens and surrounding countryside make this an ideal wedding venue. From the outset the staff did their utmost to make this a memorable occasion. Cannot fault the staff. The public rooms were comfortable and well kept. The room beautifully decked out and with the most amazing views. The gardens were perfect for the wedding photos. The downside though was the disappointing bedroom. Though the room was generally very clean, an opportunity for excellence was missed by the lack of attention to detail. The window for example had been recently plastered but not painted and the carpet was in need of a good clean. This didn't really spoil an amazing occasion, but it could have been better. We also were only given one key which caused problems as the key was also for an upstairs security door so comingsa1 snd goings needed to be well organised. Would advise couples to have a key each. The breakfast was very good and a good selection was available on the Buffet. Service polite and efficient too.

« Wonderful stay for difficult occasion »

We stayed for a total of 4 nights due to the passing of our mother. We chose The Higher Trapp as we had eaten a few times at the hotels Fitzy restaurant. The first two nights we stayed in the lodge which is separate to the main building. We like this hotel as it has character and for the money it's good value. The rooms were comfortable with good beds, TV and WiFi. But what really impressed us was the service received, especially from Jessica and Rebecca. They did more than expected and were always keen to help. We stayed at other hotels nearby when The Higher Trapp was fully booked, but they weren't as good. We would stay there again with no hesitation.

Location is beautiful, with views to die for!

    « Lovely Weekend »

We had a lovely stay at this hotel, we were in the Lodge which was a little disappointing at first but turned out great as we had plenty of space for 3 of us and we were the only ones staying in the Lodge so it was very quiet with fantastic views. We did get a little wet walking across the carpark for breakfast. The room was lovely and very spacious, we also had a bed settee, plenty of tea/coffee. Nice bathroom with a bath and shower. Breakfast was fabulous, full English to order plus omelettes, salmon, kippers, good selection of pastries and cereals ( not advised if you set out to climb Pendle Hill lol ) Staff lovely and very attentive. Receptionist very nice and efficient. We ate in Fitzy's Bar on the first night, great meal though wine was expensive. Highly recommend this hotel for visiting the lovely Lancashire villages around Pendle

« Stunning and majestic property! »

I was extremely happy with the service I received, and always with a smile. The staff seemed happy to be working there. I stayed in an oversized room with big comfy arm chairs looking out onto the most beautiful views. I was very comfortable and there was a nice lounge and restaurant on site. I hope to return with a traveling partner.

The hotel is a good friendly hotel with helpful staff who always go the extra mile to help. We were placed in The Lodge, which we had not expected , it might have been nice to be warned when we booked so we could pack an umbrella for the short walk up to the hotel. The quality of the food is first class

« A pleasant hotel in lovely surroundings, with very helpful staff. »

We stayed there over the 2016 Easter weekend, with our room in the Parker's Lodge, which is a separate annexe from the main hotel. The room was a decent size, with a good bathroom with a shower that actually worked well (some other hotels have problems with this). Very nice and peaceful stay - the only thing was that you could hear absolutely everything going on in the next room, so if you're a couple in your twenties, be warned! (; We didn't dine there, as this was a family visit, so ate elsewhere, but I believe the restaurant here is very good. Me being a forgetful soul, left my phone charger plugged in <doh> as we left. A phone call when we arrived home confirmed that, and the hotel very helpfully sent the charger back to me without charge. This is good service. Very pleasant hotel, with friendly staff. We will be back when circumstances allow.

    « A hidden littel gem! »

14 of us have just stayed 2 nights on a Wowcher deal at Higher Trapp Hotel and can honestly say this hotel is beautiful and to top it all it has fabulous staff......we will be definitely back!! The food was first class and so reasonable......Sheila the manager along with her staff could not do enough for us. We stayed in room 5 (the bridal suite) wow.....it was amazing......and a special thanks to Ann Daly and her team for the cleanliness.....all of our 7 rooms were spotlessly clean and well equipped. The receptionists couldn't have done enough for us...they were so accommodating. Anyone who wants a mini break should definitely consider this beautiful hotel...we have stayed at many hotels on a Wowcher deal and all of us agreed The Higher Trapp has been the best. Many thanks to all the staff.....we will see you again soon!!!!!!!!!

    « Lovely Stay »

This is our second visit to this hotel, we find it ideal, we take the dog so we are in the building separate to the hotel, rooms are modern and spacious, bathroom is a lovely size with a bath and a shower. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was lovely, service was spot on, breakfast was lovely. All the staff were polite and courteous. We really like this hotel, it suits us and it is local for various places, I would recommend it and we will be going back.

« Friendly staff but very tired rooms »

My step-sister got married here and my partner & I stayed in one of the rooms in the main building. The wedding itself was well planned, the staff friendly and helpful (although a master of ceremonies might have made the managing of guests smoother). Rob, the bartender deserves a shoutout as he was awesome. Sadly the room itself was very tired, the bathroom had obviously been patched up (badly) and the wardrobe was on its last legs too. The bed however was immensely comfy and we slept like logs. Some TLC on the decor would have made this a lovely hotel to stay in, but as it stands I don't think its worth the price we paid.

    « Easter Sunday Lunch »

Booked a table for eight four adults and four children on Easter Sunday, unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our meal, by this time the children were getting a bit fed up. We have had several meals at The Higher Trapp and only the last two occasions we noticed that although the food was excellent the portions of potatoes and vegetables were very limited, only 1 roast potato and a small amount of mash, we left still feeling hungry. « Weekend break »

Excellent stay. Hotel is in a fantastic location with amazing views. Despite negative reviews about this hotel needing refurbishing, this is rubbish, yes it has older features, but this suites the hotel and location. To be modern would not fit in with the building and its characters. Upon arrival Jess on reception was very helpful and happy. No lift in hotel, so she carried our cases upstairs. View from our room was spectacular. Clean comfy beds and a large bathroom. Breakfast plenty and filling. We ate in Fitzy's Bar & Restaurant (within the hotel) on our second night, food very nice and not too expensive. Some of the meals are quite dear, but you can eat on a budget if needed. The only problem is there is no separate section for eating, so you are sat within the bar area as well, so if you want a quiet meal and the bar is busy this will not be the case. The views are amazing from here, and sitting having breakfast watching the mist disappear and the sun come up (if your lucky) is very nice and relaxing. All staff within the hotel are very friendly, helpful and will stop and chat to you. The lounge area has a very large stone fire which was on during our first night. Sitting in big old leather chairs relaxing with a glass of wine by the fire at the end of a long tiring day out is heaven. The hotel grounds are nice to walk around with breathtaking views, and lots of wildlife (of the flying kind) can be seen. Overall the hotel was warm, welcoming and very friendly. A marvellous stair case with beautiful sash windows and chandelier makes this Victorian style hotel what it is. In close proximity to Pendle Hill and Clitheroe and half hour drive to Skipton, worth a visit to the market. Would highly recommend it and will definitely be coming back. Thank you Higher Trapp

« Fabulous stay in a lovely Hotel »

Stayed over for a last minute Sunday break, we stayed in the lodge in the grounds,a lovely seperate part to the hotel overlooking the grounds, we were able to take our pooch for 10 and she was allowed in the bar area. We had sandwiches on arrival which were lovely then back to our room to relax. Tea coffee chocolate and biscuits were provided and were topped up as requested. After contemplating what to do for dinner we picked up a Sunday evening menu for Fitzy's bar and chose to eat there. We had a burger, fish and chips, homemade cheese and onion. Pie and a children's meal, all very tasty and reasonably priced. Overall we have a lovely overnight stay and hope to be back soon

« Be careful what room you get!! »

Stayed here for one night over easter weekend, the room we got in was like a bad blackpool b and b.. tatty old furniture, tiny, old fashioned dirty walls terrible waller and freezing cold. We got moves to the lodge which was much nicer with lovely views. The restaurant made it as the staff and manager were welcoming and nice. These made the stay really. Wouldn't return as no pool etc and wouldn't risk getting a bad room again until they're been refurbished

    « Excellent overnight stay »

From the moment we stepped into reception we couldn't have been made more welcome. Jess the receptionist was friendly, genuine and warm. We upgraded to a platinum room which was huge with an amazing view over the gardens and hills beyond. The room was extremely comfortable with a host of extras provided free of charge - even down to fresh fruit. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that some of the hotel needed a little updating decor wise. The breakfast provided the following morning was of a very high standard and all the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. A well run hotel in a beautiful setting

« Welcoming and helpful staff »

While the property may be in need of some refreshment, this was more than made up by friendly and welcoming staff which provided a warm and comfortable environment. Happy to recommend for a night or two

« Great food, excellent service »

We stopped for one night for business. Room was spacious and bed really comfortable. The shower was a bit tight for my partner but it didn't bother me. Nice that there was a separate shower cubicle and a bath available. Food was great! We had an evening meal there (chicken with veg and cheese pie - both really tasty) and breakfast (cooked, good quality, and there is a continental buffet). Service was really friendly. We would definitely stay again if we are back in the area.

would recommend this hotel as all the staff make you feel most welcome and want you to enjoy your stay . The grounds and setting are lovely for weddings and for just relaxing or for the walkers there is the surrounding country side.

« Hen Party On Saturday 12th March - Murder Mystery Theme »

My Hen Party on was held at the Higher Trapp. My party was one of the largest on the night (being 39 of us). The theme was a school reunion for Grotsforth School "Friends Reignited". The actors who were there got everyone involved right from giving everyone a name to getting people up dancing and of course the murder. The whole evening from start to finish 7pm till 1am was a huge success. The food, the entertainment the staff - we could not have wished for a better value for money night. We would not hesitate in recommending the Higher Trapp party nights to anyone if you are up for laugh and generally having a good time the Higher Trapp is the place to go. The "Hen" - Sharon Knott

    « Weekend stay »

We are currently staying here for the weekend. We got the deal from wowcher which is a great deal. Our room is in one of the lodges which is seperate from the hotel. The room is nice and bright and clean. We have dined at the fitzys bar both evenings, the food was really nice and presented well. On our 2nd evening dining we were sat on a table next to a very critical couple. They were rude to the staff, who i have to say handled them extremely well and were very polite and professional even though the couple was quite rude to them. All of the staff clearly work to a consistant high standard and it showed throughout our stay. We will definitley be returning here. Thankyou. My one and only criticism is that our paticular room could do with updating, maybe new carpets and bed.

    « Impressive stay »

Stayed one night here, and were upgraded to Platinum Suite, perhaps as we are BW loyalty card members. Huge room with bay windows overlooking gardens and distant hills. Slightly cool, despite two large radiators, and still a hint of paint smell, following recent refurb, but an impressive room. Cafetière coffee and 2 large freshly made chocolate cookies, plus fruit and complimentary drinks helped the positive feelings. Breakfast was quite good, helped by friendly staff.

    « wowcher deal »

we was in room 12 in the main Hotel. single beds so we pushed them tog (and back when we left ) oh boy how much dirt wouldn't like to say as when it was vac under them beds. Our condiments was half empty no tea, no coffee, and only 4 milks. but not so much of a problem went to desk filled me up although I would say it is the job of the housekeepers not the desk staff. Also the tiny spritz of lavender 1 was completely empty once again the housekeepers job .We had a nice large room bonus shower and bath great for my relaxation. But on showering the floor was soaking wet due to the glass screen not fitting correctly. had to use the bath mat to soak the water up every time we showered. reported to staff on desk.. We was rather disappointed to have a separate menu as we was on a wowcher this has never happened before, and we thought the menu was a little drab for choice. Breakfast was very nice though plenty of everything. But the staff was very pushy we was brought our Full English before we had even finished our cereal. we said not just yet please crickey what was the rush.

    « Fantastic weekend »

Hotel was easy to find and had plenty of on site parking close to the hotel. Reception found our booking quickly and check in was easy. We didn't actually stay in the main hotel but in a lodge at the end of the car park which wasn't a big deal as it was only a short walk. We booked in for a meal on the Friday evening and were served quickly. They had an extensive menu and specials board. The food arrived in a reasonable time even though they were quite busy. The food was tasty and they had some different dishes on the menu to the norm. The room was comfortable, warm and clean. It had tea and coffee making facilities. It had a spacious bathroom with a heated towel rail and plenty of clean, fluffy towels. Breakfast was brilliant with plenty of choice - fruit, yoghurt, cereal, toast and jam and a full English, tea and coffee and a choice of juices. All staff were friendly and helpful. This is a great hotel and I would definitely recommend to anyone.

I could hear the music even in the bath. Then the guests till about 1am. EVERYONE'S allowed an amazing wedding so it didn't ruin our stay ,just meant an early night once home. We will definitely be returning

    « Business trip »

Stayed as had a meeting early the next day in nearby Burnley. Room in the lodge was massive and had a good shower, always a good sign. A little noise from other rooms in this part of the hotel but otherwise quiet. Food in the bar is great with a good choice off menu as well as a specials board. Very good hand pump draught beer too. Good value especially with a Dinner Bed and breakfast rate within my budget! Sadly the very poor quality of the breakfast and its service has downgraded the rating to 3 stars.

« Superb half term break »

Stayed at the hotel as our base with the kids for a few days, what a place and lovely staff. We used it as a base to explore the Ribble Valley taking in Clitheroe (the castle), a walk up Pendle Hill (no witches) and visit to Boundary Mill for some retail therapy whilst Dad took the kids to the cinema on a day it poured down. Hotel staff were really nice, the hotel is in a lovely position with cracking views. The breakfast was mega, hubby pigged out majorly whilst I ve got to say the porridge was immense. We were in a different room for breakfast and dinner as the restaurant was being refurbished which was a little disappointing but you cant have everything. We took a sneaky look on our way out, wow looks amazing. Hopefully we ll be back soon to try it out, thanks guys!!

    « Beautiful Country Hotel »

This hotel has character in abundance. Staff friendly & helpful. Foods is lovely (limited menu at present due to refurbish of restaurant but when open again i am sure will be great) Views are stunning. I choose this hotel as close to my HQ when travelling for business and i wouldn't stay anywhere else. Only negative is that walls are thin and sometimes hear TV/Phone conversations from adjoining room.

we were looking to stay in the area with a dog friendly hotel and found the higher trapp well from the start we were welcomed with smiling friendly staff who directed us to the annexe building which is open to dog owners and as we entered the room large immaculately clean room with all the facilities you would require. in the evening when we went down for dinner the staff set up a table setting for my wife and myself in the lounge as we had the dog and this was very much appreciated the food arrived and was amazing we really impressed, The restaurant manager Sheila was absolutely amazing she could not do enough for us and was very attentitive to all our needs so we thank you for that Sheila amazing service . all in all an amazing experience run by amazing staff

« Great Wedding at the Higher Trapp »

We visited the Higher Trapp for my step daughters wedding. Arriving on the friday for the wedding on the saturday, the staff from the reception were very helpful and friendly. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. The room (room 8) was very spacious (very handy with all we had for the wedding) with excellent tea and coffee making facilites. We had a great nights sleep and the walls must be quite thick as we heard nothing from the neighbours. Breakfast was Continental of Full English and was excellent with again very helpful and friendly staff. There was a wedding co-ordinator Katie who was very professional and dealt with any request we had, her team were again helpful and friendly although very professional, everything went like clockwork and the food was excellent even though the meal time over ran with the photographs. The transformation of the room from ceremony to wedding breakfast to night do was carried out expediently without any fuss for the wedding party. All in all we had a fantastic day and couldn't have wished for anything more. I would definitely recommend the Higher Trapp for a hotel stay or a Wedding Venue or a hotel stay.

Good location in the Hills of Padiham near Burnley. Manor house with nice lobby and bar area. Convenient food served and cocktails available . Good breakfast selection also with to be mentioned . Rooms are a bit noisy but with acceptable . Wifi is available and works well. TV has a wide selection of channels . Pillows and bed also good also I would prefer a sheet over the duvet. a All in all a nice stay at reasonable fare. Min would recommend the Higher Trapp.

« Couldn't of been any more perfect! »

We got married at the Higher Trapp on the 21st Jan 2016 and we really can't thank the staff enough. From the moment we booked it, right through to us checking out a couple of days after the wedding, we were thoroughly looked after. In preparation for the wedding when we spoke to Donna, she was always so helpful and informative and always kept us up-to-date with what she would be doing and what we needed to do. If we needed to know anything I felt that I could contact her and it was never too much trouble and we would always get a quick reply. The day before the big day, we met Katie who made us feel so welcome and relaxed and again nothing was too much trouble. Katie was back at the hotel the morning of the wedding and along with all the other staff, made our day run so much more smoothly than we could ever imagine. It's as though every member of staff were always one step ahead of us and they each knew what their role was throughout the day. Everybody was polite, helpful and so professional. The reception staff really were second to none and we honestly felt like we were part of the 'Higher Trapp Family'. All of our guests commented on the politeness, professionalism and how relaxed the staff made you feel and I am pretty certain you will be getting some returning guests from our wedding party as well as ourselves. Our day was relaxed, organised and absolutely perfect and none of that would of been possible without every single member of staff at the Higher Trapp Hotel from Donna and Katie to all the reception staff, the waitors, waitresses and bar staff on the day, the staff who served us all breakfast the morning after and the house keeping staff who returned a number of items to us that they found we had left in the rooms. So from the newly wed Bancrofts, thank-you so much for making every minute of our special day perfect!

« Amazing place at such a delicate time! »

Me and my partner booked a dog friendly room for two nights at very short notice. As in, we booked it whilst on the motorway to the hotel! Unfortunately, the reason for our stay wasn't pleasure. My husband's grandad was in his last days so we traveled from Leeds to Burnley to be with him and family. We also had to bring our Yorkshire terrier with it being such short notice. We checked in late and we can't compliment the place enough! The room was clean, fresh looking and tidy considering its for guests with dogs. The only complaint I have is the water pressure in the shower (room 30). Literally just a trickle! Because of my husband's grandfather passing the first morning of our stay, we often ordered room service as we arrived back at the room late and slept late and despite it snowing heavily, the staff ventured down the icy paths to bring us a hot meal. They really were amazing! The other complaint I have is we were charged for four breakfasts, two for each morning we were there. My husband was the only one to have eaten any breakfast and we didn't even book the room to include breakfast! When he asked about this at check out, he was told they couldn't refund for the breakfasts and we'd have to contact them through email. Bit of a farce but other than that, perfect hotel, staff and and beautiful grounds!

    « Regular winter break »

Great relaxing couple of days. Staff are so friendly and helpful and for a 3 star hotel the food is very good with an excellent choice. We keep going back regularly because of the welcome we receive and to have a chat with Raymond the "master barman".

    « Restaurant staff pathetic »

Hotel is fantastic can not complain about it, but our visit to the restaurant has let it down! Food is great but service was shocking, we had to ask to be served even thou people who walked in after us where served within 5mins of sitting down... On top of this whilst I was stood at the bar getting a drink on of the "kids" serving said to a colleague, "is that for the awkward table, 18," believe it or not it was our table, the ones who had to ask after 30mins to be served... Pathetic...

« great food not so good superior room »

Higher trapp is a very nice hotel, receptionist welcomed us felt like she couldn't do enough for us, our room was a superior room but not superior in my eyes, orange was mouldy, dressing gowns only had one belt, and the door had a inch gap so at night the room lit up from the light from off the corridor this was my worst ever sleep i had in a hotel, bathroom was not finished to a good standard looked as if odd job man did it, We had dinner and it was to die for, extremely good food, as was the breakfast piping hot quality food. waiting on staff excellent service, i think the food was the best in any of the bestern hotels i have visited. need to look after the chef to keep him there. In my eyes hotel needs to advertise more and get party night package offers to entice more business get the hotel back to how it use to be

« Ridiculously good value and accept Pets! »

We decided to chance our arm snd use this hotel instead if the usual travelodge as we know they accept dogs (but for a fee). This hotel accepted our dog at no extra charge and what was more surprising was the fantastic view from the two windows in our room. We decided to have breakfast as well and all for under £60. An absolute bargain and would recommend. If you are going and you had a dog ask for room 22 in the rear lodge. Fantastic!

    « Christmas Break »

In spite of terrible weather my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our three-day break. The special meals for both Christmas and Boxing Days were very good value for money. Other meals, including breakfast, in Fitzy's Bar maintained the same standard. The room was spacious and comfortable with a good view across the valley. Members of staff were very courteous and helpful at all times. All-in-all a pleasant experience and we may well make a return visit when suitable.

    « Stay and eat »

Lovely cosy hotel with great staff but awful food. Got to be the worst Fish and chips ever which is supposed to be one of their specialities . Skinny small piece of fish not fresh, the flesh was the colour of trout . Greasy thin batter and greasy chips straight out of a deep fat fryer. Food the previous occasion was poor also , piece of dry beef with Yorkshire so it wasn't a one off . Great shame the food quality which they shout about let's them down . Send out for your fish and chips it would serve you better rather than offering what you do as a supposed special The bar is great with some really good ales and the staff throughout the hotel couldn't be nicer

« Higher Staff, Higher Trapp »

What can I say? Stayed over at the Higher Trapp for the second time and we were not let down. I've always said that the the people make or break any trip that you take. The people at the Higher Trapp have consistently been on hand to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. Jamie the manager, patiently helped us navigate the flooded roads to reach the hotel safely. Rebecca and Jess on reception gave us the friendliest welcome and ensured that our room was sufficient - the Higher Trapp is an old building with large rooms and an old heating system - we had an electric heater waiting to greet us. The two "Dolly's" in Fitzy's bar made our last day memorable, full of cheer and heart-warming conversation. We would highly recommend this hotel to stay (we certainly will be staying again when we visit Lancashire). The hotel has amazing views and gorgeous period décor, excellent locally sourced food (including fantastic ice cream) and above all, the people who work there genuinely care that your experience is a good one. A massive credit to them.

    « Really good sleep »

I booked this hotel as I needed dodgers to stay in the area and got it at a good price. The were weddings on both days I was there which made the hotel busy and noisy but they put me in the annex which was really quiet. The check in was quick. The room was lovely and bigger than I expected for the money. There is lots of hot water for both the bath and the shower. I had requested that I had some algebraically to tea and coffee as I don't drink either but there was just got chocolate and no herbal teas. The breakfast was very nice both days although they take a long time to make the porridge and my cooked breakfast was brought at the same time. They did have a good range of herbal teas which I appreciated. I find it hard to sleep in hotels but slept so well here even though the room was a little too warm for me. The wifi had a strong signal and it connected easily. Due to the poor weather I was unable to enjoy the grounds. The roads to the hotel at country roads so could be bad in winter but didn't flood which was good.

    « Needs updating badly »

Luckily we were only here for one night, the grounds and views are stunning that's why I have given this place a two. The carpets in the landings are old and worn, and needs decorating. The room was clean but horrible! The kettle didn't work either not great when you haven't even been given the number for reception to report it. We reported it on checkout not even an apology just a thankyou for letting us know.

    « Lovely venue »

We were in Lancashire for mum's funeral and this seemed the ideal place to visit it did not disappoint it was a wonderful place, excellent value and the bed was the most comfortable and we will be visiting again. The receptionist was very efficient and she made us feel very welcome. The views out of the window from the hotel room were spectacular and the grounds were very well kept and would be ideal for a wedding. We will return in March as my brother is getting married so it will be our first choice.

    « Needs Some Updating »

Very old fashioned hotel but the rooms were clean and tidy. Could do with some updating including bathrooms but everything functioned correctly. Food in the bar area was typical pub food and just ok. Breakfast was again just ok. Best thing was the staff who were lovely and chatty. However if you need to work online/VPN/RDP then the free internet access is poor where ever you are in the building. Tried to use my phones on Vodaphone and 3 who were both struggling to get signal too.

    « anniversary stay »

Hotel is close to home, been before to a wedding as well. Wanted somewhere close for an anniversary night away without the kids. Room was nice enough, until we moved the bedside cabinet and pushed the 2 single beds together ! the shelf behind the bed was dirty and had dead flies on it. However moving the bed uncovered an array of toe nail clippings a previous guest must have discarded and pushed the beds back over them. Although on closer inspection a few clippings were clearly visible when the bed was in the right place....disgusting. I mentioned it to the receptionist on the way out. We also had to wait half an hour for a hot chocolate in the afternoon. The first try came to us cold and had to be returned. The glass it was in was even cold. The second attempt was lukewarm and as the cream on the top had a bit missing where my wife had tasted the first one, it had been microwaved to a lukewarm temperature. We left it and got a glass of wine instead ! Food in the evening was nice, we both enjoyed the mussels. Beer was nice too with a selection of cask ales. Breakfast was good although a little slow. We were first in the dinining room and had to wait 35 minutes before we got any food.

    « It was not a trapp »

Stunning location although not really near anything else but beautiful gardens and scenery. The room was well presented and clean, the bed was comfortable and the room was lovely and dark, slept very well. The bathroom was disappointing though, the shower seemed to take ages to get hot and the toilet needed more flushing power. The décor in the hotel in the dining room bar area is lovely and breakfast was freshly cooked and was superb

    « Lovely Hotel »

Stayed for 2 nights in the annex. Our room was large with a comfortable bed, clean and quiet with wonderful rural views. Main hotel was a little dated but charming and the hotel staff were exceptionally good. Friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble, the best service we'd ever experienced. Cooked breakfast was fantastic fresh and tasty. A great location. would recommend.

« Sadly did not live up to expectations of a country house hotel ! »

Stayed 18th October for one evening on a dinner bed and breakfast option, purpose of visit to meet up with friends . Location was perfect, especially because of the beautiful autumnal colours that surrounded us The grounds would be amazing for a wedding, but the rest was a let down.We upgraded to a superior room, we had a very pleasant view but the room was so dated.Old fashioned, tired looking carpets, wallpaper and furnishings. Hospitality tray was excellent and the bathroom had lovely luxurious towels and good complimentary toiletries. The biggest disappointment for us was the fact that guests have to dine in Fitzys bar, there is no restaurant. Images of dining in a country house hotel lead you to expect a traditional style restaurant with linen tableclothes and fine table ware etc.Fitzys bar does not match this at all , it is a bar no more, no less. The menu was also a huge let down, bog standard fayre, burgers, fish and chips, roast dinner etc.The food it self was plentiful, in fact the portions were slightly too big, we all felt it was microwaved as the plates and food were unbelievably hot.Generally not great, rock hard vegetables, over cooked chicken, the croutons with the caesar salad more like pieces of toast than deep fried and no parmesan shavings as you would expect. Breakfast was mediocre to say the least. All the staff we encountered were extremely pleasant and hard working. We expressed our concerns and disappointment this morning prior to checking out to Jess Jones on the reception desk . She was very polite and dealt with us in a very courteous manner, thanking us for the feedback we provided. She offered us suitable compensation and said she would ensure our comments concerning the hotel's title of country house hotel which we feel is misleading with regard to the dining experience would be passed on to the relevant department. If we had wished to eat in a bar/pub style atmosphere we would have chosen one of the many gastro pubs in the Clitheroe area.Sadly a disappointing stay but thank you for the excellent customer service we received.

« A peaceful haven with helpful, friendly staff »

Just had a lovely stay at the Higher Trapp Country House Hotel and it was wonderful. The area is very interesting, with the charming market town of Clitheroe complete with castle, lovely Whalley with its abbey and the famous, brooding, witchy Pendle Hill all on the doorstep. The hotel is a splendid, peaceful haven. The complete antidote to the rat race. The architecture is stunning, the gardens and views a delight. Perhaps the hotel's greatest asset though is its knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. Kerris, Raymond and Ann head of housekeeping, were especially attentive.

    « Very Nice »

The architecture of this hotel is amazing. When you book a room, make sure to ask for one in the main building as that is the old part of the hotel. The food is really good, based mainly on vegetables, so a healthy meal at the end of the day. The rooms could see some minor improvements but overall it has been a quite pleasant experience.

« If your staying here eat here »

We had a family get together to celebrate a birthday here. The accommodation was good ,clean and perfectly serviceable ,although the bathroom was looking a little tired.Where the Higher Trapp scores is that the staff were never less than very good and in the case of Sheila Luke and Ray in the restaurant they were outstanding .They looked after us a treat and we couldn't fault them .Some nice touches like a birthday card from the staff made it a If your staying here eat here When did you travel? I certify that this review is based on my own experience and is my genuine opinion of this hotel, and that I have nolovely evening. I can't remember the last time i was treated so well by hotel staff.

    « Good location. »

Although I had visited the Higher Trapp many years ago, I had never stayed here before. We thought it would be a pretty safe bet being in the Best Western group. We weren't disappointed. It's situated in a nice part of the countryside but only a few miles from the M65 motorway so access is OK. There's plenty of car parking spaces. We had two nights here whilst seeing various friends in the area. There's lots of oak panelling and a lovely old creaky staircase in what was, at one time a private residence. The room was fine and most importantly had a very comfortable bed. No problems with housekeeping and we had everything we needed in the room. Reception is at the rear of the building and both check in and check out were handled with efficiency by friendly, cheerful staff. Breakfast was part buffet/ part cooked to order and set us up for the day! The waitress at breakfast (whom we now know is called Anna) deserves a special mention for her attentiveness and warm friendly attitude. Indeed, some of the evening staff in the bar/restaurant could learn from her. We only ate here on one evening and whilst the food was OK, service was rather slow but it was quite a busy evening.

« trip to see friends »

Always welcoming , friendly attentive staff, spacious rooms, and any problem sorted quickly and efficiently, l have been quite a few times this year and the latte machine has been broken on more than one occasion so that defiantly needs attention. Also l think that the idea of a coffee perculator in the rooms is a bad idea would never use it.

« Nice Location and Hotel, good food. »

Stayed 2 nights on a business trip. Ate in the bar on both evenings, food was excellent , I can highly recommend the Burgers and the Rag Pie, a little on the expensive side, but worth it. The bar had some excellent local Ales. The service in general was a little slow, but that may be down to the general pace of life in this neck of the woods ( I am a city boy). I was offered a room in the annex but turned it down as I much prefer to be in the main hotel. Room was large and very pleasant with a stunning view. There were a few general signs of wear and tear, they could do with new carpets but that is being very picky. Staff were polite and helpfull. The meeting room we hired was good and the Wi-fi was sufficent. I'm a fan of Best Westerns and would definitely use this one again.

Great food, great staff, great room. I had a single and it was perfect for 1 person for 1 night. Beautiful view to wake up to! Couldn't have asked for a nicer stay. Beautiful features throughout the hotel, made me feel like I was staying in a castle!

    « Wedding Reception & Overnight Stay »

We stayed here for a friends wedding reception Sept 2015. Beautiful place very warm and welcoming. Gorgeous views and traditional decor. Food at the reception was lovely and a good time was had by all! We stayed overnight and our room was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast in the morning was good and service was pleasant and quick. Overall we would be more than happy to stay here again and would recommend to others.
